•Choreography- is an
arrangement or design
for dance movements
usually accompanied by
music.
Contemporary Art Forms in
the Region
• Musical Instruments- any
tool or device that produces
sound. It consist of an array of
shapes and styles from the
simple to the complex.
Babandil- a single narrowed rimmed gong often
used as the in the Kulintang
ensemble. It has sunken boos which means that
it has to be struck on the rim or flange to make a
sharp, distinctive metallic clang. Sticks are made
from bamboo or rattan.
KUBING- is a jaw harp made with bamboo and is one of
the more well known traditional musical instruments. This
instrument is known to be used as a way for our
ancestors to communicate through song especially
courtship.
Kulintang- a set of 5-9 pieces of gongs that vary
in size and sound. It is usually played for
entertainment during festivals, weddings, and
healing ceremonies. The natives of Meranao,
Tausug and Maguindanao take a lot pride and joy
with these.
Kudyapi- a string wooden lute that’s about 4-6 ft
long. Played by men, mainly when singing of love
songs. The strings are traditionally made with
abaca fibers or horse hair, but modern versions
of the Kutiyapi use wires like a guitar.
Tongali-is played to mimic a mournful human voice. It has 3-4
holes where the fingers are placed over. One found in the back
where air is forced through nostril and another is found about
midway where thumb is placed to change the tone and pitch. It is
played during celebrations, special meals, festivals, planting
season and in courtship.

production like drama, opera,
festivals and the like. It pertains to
a public presentation of a dramatic
or musical entertainment.
• Cinema- It is the most
popular of the art froms. It
is similar to theater, except
that it is not a live
performance and the action
is seen on a flat screen.
