Suicide s Note By Langston Hughes
Suicide s Note Not all poems fall into the category of epic poetry or ballads. Some pieces are short
and concise rather than lengthy and elegant. A shorter poem may focus more thoroughly on diction, or
the author s specific choice of words, rather than things such as rhyme scheme or meter. Langston
Hughes poem Suicide s Note is a perfect example of this. Because it is only twelve words long, every
single word is important and chosen carefully. This poem uses many literary techniques, none more
than diction, to achieve its purpose. which is to focus on the split second decision that is suicide. To
begin, Hughes uses his diction to create a distinct mood for his poem. For example, when one reads
the poem without first reading the title, The calm, Cool face of the river Asked me for a kiss, they may
create in their own head a calm, positive or happy mood. The words may remind one of summer days
at the lake or the beautiful view of a river valley. The author does this on purpose as he wants the
reader to be relaxed. With the title, Suicide s Note, attached, however, the mood automatically
becomes more solemn. Hughes gives his readers this title because he wants them to understand that
this poem has a meaning beyond what can be seen at first glance. Nothing in these lines really reveals
a tone, or the author s attitude toward the subject, which makes the mood that much more more
important. The author establishes that his, or anyone s, thoughts or feelings

Defining The Area Of Intellectual Property Law That...
The term of copyright used to describe the area of intellectual property law that regulates copyrighted
work such as book, songs, films and computer programs. This is governed by Copyright, Designs, and
Patents Act 1998 (CDPA). Sec 1 of CDPA give the creator right to protect over literary, artistic,
musical and dramatic work as well as film, sound recordings and typographical arrangements. This
concept expressed in Art 2 of TRIPS that it protects the expression of an idea. However, when an idea
could only be expressed in one particular way, it won t t be protected because it would monopolise the
idea.
As to general rule, infringement requires substantial part of work to be copied that refers to quality,
not quantity. It should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The recent exemptions as of 1 October 2014, intended for personal copies for private use and also
quotation and parody. These changes arose by Gowers Review 2006 and the Hargreaves Review 2011.
The reasoning was to make it fit for purpose in digital age, deliver economic growth, and confer
greater freedom for certain bodies. However, this changes is likely to affect businesses, publisher,
individual and institutions who deal in copyright works.
A landmark case on private use exemption can refer in Basca and others v Secretary of State for
Business Innovation Skills. This case significance to Section 28B of CDPA, any person who
legitimately acquired content (music, film and books) could copy the work for private use and could
storage onto other format without infringing. Here, a number of music industry bodies sought a
judicial review on the basis that Section 28B failed to provide a fair compensation to right holders.
Article 5(2)(b) of InfoSoc Directive permits member states to came up with private copy exception if
the copy for private use caused no more than minimal harm to copyright holders, otherwise
compensation would be payable. In UK, government create an exception which caused zero or
minimal harm to right holders and implemented a narrow concept which is only for purchaser, thus
copying by family, friends or within a social circle is not permitted. The value of copying in the
exception built into the initial price of content by

Operation Crossroads Essay
What happened to Bikini Atoll when the United States had a nuclear weapons test series? Operation
Crossroads was a nuclear test that was held during the summer of 1946 at Bikini Atoll intended to
study the effect of nuclear weapon. There were a total of three tests, Able, Baker, and Charlie. The
first test was codenamed Able. The 23 kiloton bomb was dropped from the B 29 Superfortress Dave s
Dream at July 1, 1946. The bomb detonated at an altitude of 520 feet and 1,500 to 2,000 off from the
target ships. The second test was codenamed Baker. The 23 kiloton bomb was put 90 feet underwater.
The bomb caused many unusual phenomena that a conference was held two months later to define
new terms for use in descriptions and analysis. There was originally a third test codenamed Charlie ,
but it was canceled due to the inability of the United States to remove the target ships after test Baker.
United States should not have conducted the nuclear bomb test at Bikini Atoll because the devastation
to the lands and the test animals, the bikinians had a horrible and difficult life when they moved away

the work when the work is there. Even with all the planning in the world sometimes things are going
to end up differently than you expect. The fall of 2010 I would be heading back to Steamboat just as I
did the two previous years with the same plan and savings. All though this particular winter was not
cooperating as the previous seasons had. Everybody knows that betting on the weather is never a good
idea and this particular year I had made the wrong bet. The locals kept reassuring me that this was the

that an El Niña winter likes to show up to the party late. For me that meant my budget calculations

The First Airborne Jamming Test
These developments in radar prompted experiments to find whether or not ITS transmission could be
denied or defeated. The first airborne jamming test took place in London and involved a continuous
wave transmitter. Following this test, anti jamming systems were attached to the direction finding
systems which then evolved into the Chain Home radar system along the eastern coast of the U.K.
These anti jamming systems were the first examples of electronic counter counter measures which is
now a sub category of electronic warfare called electronic protection. (price 9 10). The United States
conducted similar experiments and prior to entering the Second World War, the United States Navy
possessed radar, high frequency direction finding systems and anti jamming devices.
Throughout the year of 1940, the Germans and the British conducted a series of back and forth
electronic attacks and counterattacks AFFECTING the German s ability to bomb Britain during the
night with low visibility. The German s employed various radio technologies to acquire night bombing
capabilities where they could intersect two transmitted radio waves that followed the correct flight
path in order to ensure the German pilots could maintain a continuous course. The German s even
used the British s own Chain Home defense as reference points during this evolution. The UK would
continually modify their systems and employ electronic warfare tactics to jam the German s beams.
The British continued to modify

Male View of Hysteria Presented in The Yellow Wallpaper
Male View of Hysteria Presented in The Yellow Wallpaper
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper has been viewed as either a work of
supernatural horror or as a feminist treatise regarding the role of women in society. A close analysis of
Gilman s use of symbols reveals The Yellow Wallpaper as her response to the male view of hysteria
from ancient times through the nineteenth century. In The Yellow Wallpaper Gilman questions the
validity of Hippocrates s theory of the wandering uterus and Weir Mitchell s rest cure . As she wrote in
her essay Why I Wrote the Yellow Wallpaper? , [the story] was not intended to drive people crazy, but
to save people from being driven crazy... (107). By her own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hippocrates explained that the various symptoms of hysteria, such as nervousness, depression, and
hysterical fits, were caused by the uterus s interactions with the other organs in the body. In his text
On the Nature of Women he explains the cause and treatment of a hysterical fit:
If the uterus comes towards the liver, the female suddenly becomes speechless, and clenches her teeth,
and her color comes back...In such situations, push beneath the liver with the hand and tighten a
bandage beneath the hypochondria, and by opening the mouth administer a most fragrant wine, and
anoint the nostrils and apply malodorous fumigations. And fragrant fumigations below the uterus.
(Palis 227)
Not only was the uterus capable of wandering around the body, it was believed that the womb was
attracted and repelled by certain odors.
Gilman seems to address the ridiculousness of such logic when she refers to the inconsistencies in the
design of the wallpaper in The Yellow Wallpaper. The narrator complains, On a pattern like this, by
daylight, there is a lack of sequence, a defiance of law, that is a constant irritant to a normal mind
(263). This same complaint could be used against the popular view of hysteria. The theory that the
woman s uterus dislodged itself in the body and wandered around aimlessly violates natural law. In
this respect, the ancient view of hysteria is similar to the wallpaper

A Research Study On Alzheimer s Disease
Dementia is another term for memory loss and there are a couple types of dementia. This research
paper is about Alzheimer s Disease (AD) which is a specific type of dementia that is closely related to
aging. AD accounts for 50 to 80 percent of dementia cases. AD usually affects people 65 and older,
but it can start in rare cases around 40 to 50. 5.3 million people in America have been diagnosed with
AD, and almost two thirds of the population that has been diagnosed are women (Alzheimer s
Association, 2015). Learning about AD can help people understand what really goes on when
someone is suffering from it. It is very important to know the history, deblockedion, diagnosis, causes,

Deter had forgotten her own name (Maurer, 1997). In 1910, four years after Dr. Alzheimer s discovery,
a psychiatrist that worked with Dr. Alzheimer published the name of the disease (Alzheimer s Disease)
in the eighth edition of his book Psychiatrie (as cited in Handbook of Gerontology, 2007). Since then,
there have been many more breakthroughs in the research of AD. In the 1960 s, scientist found a
relationship between cognitive decline and the number of plaques in the brain. In the 1970 s AD was
documented as the most common type of dementia (Bright Focus Foundation, 2015). In 1984 another
ground breaking discovery was made. In 1984 the Beta Amyloid was discovered by George Glenner
and Cai ne Wong (Alzheimer s Association, 2015). In the 1990 s a few more discoveries were made,
such as complex nerve cells, and genetics coincident, and AD susceptibility. However, the last decade
has been crucial to AD discoveries and experiments. As technology is always improving, scientists are
able to push their limits and experiment more. In 2004, Pittsburgh Compound B (PIB) was created
(Alzheimer s Association, 2015). PIB is imaging software that allows early detection of AD. With all
of these discoveries, researchers have learned how the Central Nervous System (CNS) is affected by
AD. AD begins in the Entorhinal Cortex of the brain (Nia.nih.gov) The Entorhinal

Developing Two Bioanalytical Sensing Platforms Essay
The aim of this project is to develop two bioanalytical sensing platforms as a means to study
phenomena in organized 3D cellular microenvironments that appropriately model key aspects of
biological habitats. Three important questions, listed below, will be addressed during this project,
which we discuss in detail in Sections 3.1 3.3.
(1) Can we determine concentrations of cellular biogenic species (NO, H2O2) in organized
microcommunities using T CUAs?
(2) Can we monitor proximity dependent cellular behavior in dynamic microcolonies?
(3) Can we perform real time analyses of cellular behavior in response to in vivo environments?
3.1 T CUAs for Electrochemical Detection of Cellularly Derived Biogenic Species in Organized 3D
Microenvironments.
The complex environments in which cells interact can have diverse cellular populations and be
susceptible to changes that influence cellular survival, division, differentiation, death and virulence.
Such dynamic responses are often mediated, at least in part, by changes in the concentration of
biogenic signaling molecules. Hence, detection of these chemical species is key to understanding
cellular communication. Using T CUAs as electrochemical sensors in tandem with µ3DP cell cultures,
we will electrochemically detect two signaling molecules, NO and H2O2, directly from macrophages
and S. gordonii cells, respectively.
Macrophages are immunological (eukaryotic) cells that respond to bacterial infections within in an
organism by secreting

One running theme of the book is summarized by the haunting government slogan Who controls the

The Brand Of Brand Loyalty
Furthermore, the publication suggests that the brand loyalty is correlated with market share. So, the
bigger the company is, the more loyalty among its customers. And, this is true because the more
people get to know the company, its services, and its products, the more brand identity it will form
among current customers. Also, large companies benefit from having more loyal customers because
they engage in word of mouth activities which can potentially attract more customers. So, there are
many ways in which a company can increase their loyalty levels. But, when it comes to increasing
market share, a better way could involve the increase in revenues among consumers. This can be done
by opening more stores, offering products online, and by offering volume discounts. And, as a result,
the company may be able to increase revenues and potentially increase its market share. Eventually, it
could lead to an increase in the amount of loyal customers overall. Moreover, it can be said that
loyalty programs and other related marketing activities can only make a difference in the long run
because the result are hardly noticeable in the short run due to the fact that it takes time for a buyer to
become an actual loyal customer.
When it comes to developing a well designed loyalty program, marketers should take into account the
value being offered to consumers with respect to the prices of the products. This means that a
company should offer reasonable rewards to the customers after they

I Carry Your Heart With Me
E. E Cumming s poem [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in] conveys a love poem about how the
persona feels about the one they love. It is not stated whether the speaker is a male or female, but it is
clear how they feel about their lover. Not only does the speaker express his love about the person, but
also about nature. While Cummings expresses himself as a poet who does not seem to abide by
normal poetic routines, he uses trochee, parallelism, syntax, and enjambment for the strength in this
poem.
Cumming s uses trochee and parallelism in each meter. The spaces in each start of a new breath, the
lowercase letters and the parentheses he adds to his poems distinguishes him from other poets.
Another difference between him and other poets is he does use the traditional end rhymes but syntax.

my fate, my sweet) meaning that the lover is their fate. Cummings talks about love in a more
foundational and strong way to connect two lovers instead of puppy love and ruby hair. It is not a
typical love poem because Cummings uses imagery and visuals to explain the love between the two
lovers. He does not focus on just getting the other person, but about connecting and the world as a
whole. With his diction and wordplay, Cummings allows the reader to develop a different meaning
and understanding of love. Not the common love that everyone knows about, but the out of the realm

Robert Nozick s Account Of Property Rights
When looking at property distribution it is easy to come to the conclusion that Robert Nozick s
libertarian account of property rights is the most reasonable theory. Nozick s view is one that can be
easily defended and there are plenty of examples to support the claims he makes. By utilizing Nozick
s theory, property distribution can be understood and improved on a grand scale. Before I am able to
support these claims, it is important for the reader to truly understand key aspects of his theory. After
describing the most important parts of his theory I will offer examples and reasons that offer support
to his theory. There are also certain counterarguments against his views that I will address later in this
paper to show these counterarguments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When looking at these counterarguments individually it is easy to dismiss these disagreements. Some
believe that the vast unequal distribution in United States can be used as an example of what is wrong
with Nozick s theory, but this is simply not valid. Although there are definitely issues with the wealth
distribution in the United States, many of those problems are addressed in Nozick s theory. One
cannot simply look at the current state of wealth distribution and ignore the history behind the
problems. A majority of the current unequal distribution is due to a long history of unjust practices in
business related to acquisition and transfer. Using Nozick s theory of property distribution these
problems become obsolete. Nozick s theory includes rules that need to be followed, which prevent the
unjust transfer of goods by using coercive measures. By following this rule, we immediately avoid the
wealth gained by people who use unjust practices to gain their wealth. People might also point to the
unequal distribution experienced by different racial groups as evidence against Nozick s theory. This
argument can also be discredited using Nozick s third and final rule, which declares that problems
caused by past injustices need to rectified. This rule would immediately help fix issues with unequal
distribution of wealth between whites and minorities. Throughout history minorities have been
handicapped by problems with equality causing them to essentially fall behind economically. If these
injustices were rectified financially, the playing field would become substantially more

The War Of A War
War occurs almost everywhere in the world and can be seen as a means of symbolism and patriotism.
The Revolutionary War was fought in order to gain independence. That was the meaning behind that
war. However, why do societies go to war, other than to fight for independence? Ever since the
beginning of time war has been used as a means to invade another country and rid them of their
resources. Whether it s a war or just invasion, it is still a means of bombarding a country or society
without any rights. Regardless of the invasion and the reason being, the people of the country being
invaded are affected and so are the veterans invading the country. Most people tend to ignore the
internal struggles veterans face post war. The civilians of a war zoned country are also majorly
affected in ways many people fail to see because of the lack of media coverage. Most veterans
returning from a war struggle from post traumatic stress disorder, individuals in societies are blind to
the fact that these people are mentally unstable because of the experience they go through. Most
people will salute a veteran because in America it is proper to respect those who served the country.
These people aren t aware that some of these individuals might not want to be reminded of their
actions and some of them might not be entirely proud of what they did at war. The civilians are also
very much ignored because no one cares about the amount of innocent lives taken every day. The

Any society that abuses children should crumble .Sparta was an ancient Greek city state. They valued
military strength above anything else. They did not teach academics, farming, or anything else besides

To begin with, The Spartans lacked education. In document D the text states, [The Spartans] learned to

An Article From American Pregnancy
A new phenomenon, placentophagy, has taken the United States by storm. Placentophagy is the
concept of consuming the placenta after giving birth to a child in order to receive specific health
benefits. Controversy has ensued over whether or not the placenta is actually beneficial to mothers.
The pro argument states that placentophagy is in fact advantageous. An article from American
Pregnancy, entitled Placenta Encapsulation explains that the basis of placentophagy relies heavily on
anecdotes from mothers who have tried out the procedure and supported the practice. Another article
from the website Placenta Benefits explains under their health and wellness tab how exactly
consuming the placenta can be valuable. The page has a list of all the benefits, including related
articles that go into further detail on a specific subject. Annette McDermott explains in her article that
a study was done on one hundred and eight nine participants, and seventy six percent said they
experienced positive results when consuming placenta. Yet another article by Michele Zipp also
mentions the previously mentioned study, and says that more studies will be conducted in the future. It
also mentioned that mothers who had another kid would continue to consume the placenta, and in
different ways, which suggests they had experienced positive effects. One last blog from whattoexpect
talks about the positive effects of placenta ingestion mentions facts about the placenta, such as the fact
that it

Essay on What Factors Affect Voter Turnout and Election...
Voter turnout, as well as election results, depend upon and are effected by several different factors.
Everything from family status to beliefs about abortion can determine how a person will vote. In my
presentation, however, I focused on three aspects that effect voter turnout and elections. I found, in my
research, that a voter s age, sex and party identification greatly factor into how a person will cast his or
her vote.
Men and women differ greatly in many aspects of life, and voting is one of them. In the 1992
Presidential elections, women were found by the U.S. Census Current Population Reports to have
voted two percent more than men did. Of the 62% of women who did vote, more were found to have
supported Bill Clinton rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
this low voting rate was attributed to a general lack of feeling of responsibility. As young adults age,
marry, and become parents, their sense of community and responsibility increases, while their apathy
toward voting decreases, (Abramson 116). Another reason for low voter turnout numbers for 18 to 24
year olds is their generally low levels of party loyalties. Not having strong party ties decreases one s
incentive to vote.
Registration and voting organizations such as MTV s Rock the Vote have been accredited with
increasing young Americans voter turnout numbers. Rock the Vote s primary focus, since its founding
in 1990, has been increasing voter registration within the nation s youngest age group. The
organization frequently hosts Get Out the Vote drives on college campuses and on concert tours in
order to reach young people. since its beginning, support for Rock the Vote has been massive, and in
1992 it was recognized for influencing more than one million young voters to participate in electing
their President.
Voter turnout for other age groups also increased in 1992, but those numbers were not considered to
be a significant rise because age groups with citizens over 45 years old already have generally high
turnout. According to the U.S. Census Current Population Reports, the 45 to 64 years old age group
was reported to have 75.3% of registered voters actually voting, while those in the 65 years or older

The Republic by Plato Essay
The Republic by Plato
At the beginning of Book I, we are introduced to the narrator, Socrates, and his audience of peers. We
are made aware, however, of Socrates special charm and intellectual gifts through the insistence of
Polemarchus and the other men for the pleasure of his company. The tone is casual and language and
modes of expression rather simple, as is commonly the case in Plato s dialogues. However, Plato s
unaffected style serves at least two purposes. For one it belies the complexity and elevation of the
ideas, thus it is in accord with Socrates characteristic irony itself, which draws the quot;fool quot; in
by feigned ignorance, only so that the master can show that he does not know what he thinks he
knows. And second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates response (another question) clarifies his epistemology: quot;how can anyone answer who
knows, and says that he knows, just nothing?? quot; What Socrates knows is incommunicable other
than to say that he knows nothing. His philosophical speculations embody a process rather than a
philosophy. That is, Socrates method is in accord with the nature of inquiry and of intellectual
exploration itself: he is his style. And, acutely aware of this fact, Socrates repels every temptation
toward dogma, characterized by Thrasymachus complaints.
The second definition of justice, obedience to the interest of the stronger, is Thrasymachus veiled
justification for tyranny (might is right), and is foreshadowed in his indecorous demand for payment.
He is portrayed in sharp contrast to Socrates, who suggests that the stronger may not always know his
own interest; therefore, at times, it is necessary for the weaker to disobey him. Socrates then
successfully upsets the definition by demonstrating that, insofar as his role is an art, a ruler acts in the
best interest of his subjects, as exemplified by the physician for his patients and the captain for his
crew.
Still unresolved, the debate moves into a second stage, where tyranny, or perfect injustice, and
benevolent rule, or perfect justice, are evaluated against one another. Again, through a series of
examples, Socrates prevails the unjust man s pride and ambition are shown to be weaknesses,

Bombing Of Dresden Essay
To what extent was the bombing of Dresden justified and what are the resulting consequences?
Introduction: Dresden The bombing of Dresden from February 13 to February 15, 1945 remains one
of the most controversial bombings in World War II. Located in eastern Germany, Dresden was
targeted by Allied bombers during the final months World War II in the European theatre. The
justification of the bombing remains controversial because the city was neither a political center nor
an industrial center contributing to the Nazi war effort. The one word that describes Dresden before its
decimation was innocence. Prior to the bombing, Dresden was a cultural center and was one of the
world s most beautiful cities termed the Florence on the Elbe due ... Show more content on

The Soviets urged Roosevelt and Churchill to bomb Dresden to eliminate railroad junctions and
factories surrounding Dresden, arguing the attack would disorient the German war machine to aid the
advancement of Soviet troops from the Eastern front. Prior to Dresden, the Soviets suffered massive
causalities and by the war s end, the total death toll approximated 20 million. All leaders agreed during
Yalta that bombing raids on transportation, communication, and manufacturing hubs would bring the
Nazi regime to a standstill. Despite the popular belief that Dresden did not house any manufacturing
hubs that contributed to the Nazi war effort, the Allies reported several factories in Dresden. As Chen
states, However, Allied reports indicated the presence of the Zeiss Ikon optical factory and Siemans
glass factory (which produced gun sights), and other factories building radar, anti aircraft shell fuses,
gas masks, fighter engines, and various fighter parts. Dresden was also a communication hub that
connected telephone lines to the Eastern front. The Allied leaders reasoned the strategic bombing

Human Gender and Mathematics Essay
Human Gender and Mathematics
Is there a difference in the mathematical ability between men and women? Historians have no precise
method of quantifying or comparing their individual accomplishments (Olsen). Not only in
mathematics, but also in many other career areas in the past, women were looked upon as inferior to
their male counterparts. Women were not encouraged to pursue a career in mathematics. Historically,
women were seen working around the home, cleaning the house, taking care of the children, and
cooking the food. Even if they did pursue a career in mathematics, their research was sometimes
viewed as questionable. I will defend the fact that, Women have the same capabilities of achieving in
mathematics than men do. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Human Spirit In Flowers For Algernon
Journey is an expedition, as much as it is physical, it is also emotional and imaginative. In the process
of embarking on a journey an individual must discover something about themselves or the society
which is found through obstacles. As such, the radio drama Flowers for Algernon adapted by Bert
coules and written by Daniel Keyes, displays that the strength of the human spirit is essential for the
journey if an individual is to overcome the obstacles and gain new perspectives and understanding of
themselves and the world. Contrastingly, in Flowers for Algernon directed by Jonathan Dayton and

Benefits Of Electronic Medical Record
Introduction
There are many benefits of using electronic medical record (EMR). This paper will discuss the
benefits of electronic medical record for the physicians, patients, and the healthcare organizations.
Benefits of EMR for Physicians There are so many benefits for physicians to use electronic medical
record, for example, they can eliminate a tremendous amount of paperwork since most of their
charting is done on the computer. Another advantage of using electronic medical record is the fact that
it allows for easy transfer of data or information to other departments or medical providers. This
ability of the electronic medical record helps to eliminate errors, it also less time consuming and it
prevents physicians and patients from repeating the same test. It also helps to prevent patients from
over exposing their body to unnecessary radiation. It is also important to note that healthcare
insurance is also enjoying this feature of the electronic medical record since they are saving money
whereby they will not have to pay for duplicate testing. The electronic medical record being able to
transfer patients data and information from one provider to the next is important since it allows
collaborations among various departments and healthcare facilities, also, physicians do not have to
worry about paperwork being misplaced or misfiled. Most patients find themselves at some time or

Julia Ward Howe s Song The Battle Hymn Of The Republic
In the song The Battle Hymn of The Republic by Julia Ward Howe, is a bit longer than expected, it has
a great beat, words, and musical instrumentation throughout the whole song. Being drawn to this piece
of music by its title and having had family fight for our freedom, I chose to learn more about this
song. The introduction is an announcement of the eyes of the soldiers seeing enough of war. With the
wording of God s truth is marching on and the war coming to an end, shows soldiers singing songs of
praise for getting to come home and be with family. This gives a happy tone throughout the song. The
beat on the instruments goes high and low as the singers of the song sing of God marching on to fight
for freedom.

expanding her knowledge and increasing her love of writing. She married Samuel Gridley Howe, who

Becoming involved in reform movements, supported issues, women s rights, and education, Julia

An educated person is one who s education surpasses the national average in their respected country.
An educated person has the ability and drive to succeed no matter what social and economic
background one has. Knowing the reason why being highly educated matters in life, and having a
passion to learn. Similarly, to understand what is learned during the process of being educated, take
the time to truly comprehend the facts, and the reasons behind the facts. Otherwise they might be
forgotten and if so, are you still an educated person? Consider the following methods: the banking
concept where facts are repeated to you and from that are memorized so you can repeat them back,
and the problem posing concept where ideas are introduced and everyone learns from each other
(Freire 144, 147). The ability and drive to succeed no matter what stands in your path, whether the
problem is economical, social, or cultural, overcoming obstacles is a part of life that everyone does
and each hurdle is a step closer to the end goal; the prize of being educated. Simply put, knowledge is
power, where the highly educated oversee the less educated, and the non educated have little to no

In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, many interesting fantasies occur
in a way which brings the reader into a different world. The story switches back and forth from
delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the beginning of this
story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a
commander of an aircraft. An intense scene is displayed showing what Walter Mitty wishes would be
reality. It is not until the next paragraph that one discovers this reality. His wife then interrupts the
scene, bringing Walter Mitty back into his everyday life, one which is far less exciting to ... Show

The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the
elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a way
that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the
introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of
these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory
characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game
to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is
described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of
where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is
interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said
Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the
basic structure that this story will set forth. The organization of this story goes from what was
described in the introductory paragraph as a flashback, to the interrupting dialogue of Mrs. Mitty. As
she yells,

Professional Sports And The Civil Era
Professional sports were segregated in the United States, just like the rest of the country was during
the 1940s, but between the cooperation of two men the color barrier was broken in professional sports.
The unwritten rule of not allowing blacks to play professional baseball had been standing since the
1880s. No professional sport in America at the time had any participating African Americans, yet
many African Americans were participating in the Olympics. Famous African American olympians,
such as Jesse Owens and John Taylor, were highly celebrated for their accomplishments, yet no
change was made within the professional sports world. Robinson was not the first attempt at breaking
the color barrier in professional sports but Branch Rickey, the President and GM of the Dodgers, felt
he was the one to complete the transformation. The African Americans in the United States were still
playing baseball beyond college at this time, but in their own collection of leagues called the Negro
Major Leagues. African Americans were able to play in some of the integrated colleges around the
country but the integration ended there. They were allowed to play in Major League Baseball but it
just did not happen, the MLB commissioner of the time Judge Landis said, there was no rule on the
books prohibiting a black man from joining a major league team. It was up to the owners to hire

  • 2. Suicide s Note By Langston Hughes Suicide s Note Not all poems fall into the category of epic poetry or ballads. Some pieces are short and concise rather than lengthy and elegant. A shorter poem may focus more thoroughly on diction, or the author s specific choice of words, rather than things such as rhyme scheme or meter. Langston Hughes poem Suicide s Note is a perfect example of this. Because it is only twelve words long, every single word is important and chosen carefully. This poem uses many literary techniques, none more than diction, to achieve its purpose. which is to focus on the split second decision that is suicide. To begin, Hughes uses his diction to create a distinct mood for his poem. For example, when one reads the poem without first reading the title, The calm, Cool face of the river Asked me for a kiss, they may create in their own head a calm, positive or happy mood. The words may remind one of summer days at the lake or the beautiful view of a river valley. The author does this on purpose as he wants the reader to be relaxed. With the title, Suicide s Note, attached, however, the mood automatically becomes more solemn. Hughes gives his readers this title because he wants them to understand that this poem has a meaning beyond what can be seen at first glance. Nothing in these lines really reveals a tone, or the author s attitude toward the subject, which makes the mood that much more more important. The author establishes that his, or anyone s, thoughts or feelings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The term of copyright used to describe the area of intellectual property law that regulates copyrighted work such as book, songs, films and computer programs. This is governed by Copyright, Designs, and Patents Act 1998 (CDPA). Sec 1 of CDPA give the creator right to protect over literary, artistic, musical and dramatic work as well as film, sound recordings and typographical arrangements. This concept expressed in Art 2 of TRIPS that it protects the expression of an idea. However, when an idea could only be expressed in one particular way, it won t t be protected because it would monopolise the idea. The recent exemptions as of 1 October 2014, intended for personal copies for private use and also quotation and parody. These changes arose by Gowers Review 2006 and the Hargreaves Review 2011. The reasoning was to make it fit for purpose in digital age, deliver economic growth, and confer greater freedom for certain bodies. However, this changes is likely to affect businesses, publisher, individual and institutions who deal in copyright works. A landmark case on private use exemption can refer in Basca and others v Secretary of State for Business Innovation Skills. This case significance to Section 28B of CDPA, any person who legitimately acquired content (music, film and books) could copy the work for private use and could storage onto other format without infringing. Here, a number of music industry bodies sought a judicial review on the basis that Section 28B failed to provide a fair compensation to right holders. Article 5(2)(b) of InfoSoc Directive permits member states to came up with private copy exception if the copy for private use caused no more than minimal harm to copyright holders, otherwise compensation would be payable. In UK, government create an exception which caused zero or minimal harm to right holders and implemented a narrow concept which is only for purchaser, thus copying by family, friends or within a social circle is not permitted. • 5. Jack Kerouac Jack Kerouac is well known for saying, The best teacher is experience and not through someone s distorted point of view . With such a vast and beautiful world to explore there are many important life lessons one can learn while taking time away from school. Having to go out and survive on your own can be a very fulfilling endeavor. Not attending college immediately after high school allowed me to travel the country while realizing the importance of time and money management, living these realities helped me become more aware of my thirst for knowledge. Although not born in Watauga County I had grown up here from the age of six. While this is not a negative experience by any means I have always had an adventurous bone in my body. Being ... This means you have to make your money in a short amount of time, usually the summer tourism season last a total of three months. This short season taught me the value of putting in the work when the work is there. Even with all the planning in the world sometimes things are going to end up differently than you expect. The fall of 2010 I would be heading back to Steamboat just as I did the two previous years with the same plan and savings. All though this particular winter was not cooperating as the previous seasons had. Everybody knows that betting on the weather is never a good idea and this particular year I had made the wrong bet. The locals kept reassuring me that this was the year of El Niña which meant a tremendous amount of snow for the year, the only downside to this is that an El Niña winter likes to show up to the party late. For me that meant my budget calculations would be off, while I had a job lined up at my previous place of employment it would not begin until the ski mountain was open. This meant I had to find a job and fast, I took the bus down to the local Wendy s and applied for a job. Luckily they were hiring and I got the job, I had found a way to pay the rent for the month. The first airborne jamming test took place in London and involved a continuous wave transmitter. Following this test, anti jamming systems were attached to the direction finding systems which then evolved into the Chain Home radar system along the eastern coast of the U.K. These anti jamming systems were the first examples of electronic counter counter measures which is now a sub category of electronic warfare called electronic protection. (price 9 10). The United States conducted similar experiments and prior to entering the Second World War, the United States Navy possessed radar, high frequency direction finding systems and anti jamming devices. Throughout the year of 1940, the Germans and the British conducted a series of back and forth electronic attacks and counterattacks AFFECTING the German s ability to bomb Britain during the night with low visibility. The German s employed various radio technologies to acquire night bombing capabilities where they could intersect two transmitted radio waves that followed the correct flight path in order to ensure the German pilots could maintain a continuous course. • 8. Male View of Hysteria Presented in The Yellow Wallpaper Male View of Hysteria Presented in The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper has been viewed as either a work of supernatural horror or as a feminist treatise regarding the role of women in society. A close analysis of Gilman s use of symbols reveals The Yellow Wallpaper as her response to the male view of hysteria from ancient times through the nineteenth century. In The Yellow Wallpaper Gilman questions the validity of Hippocrates s theory of the wandering uterus and Weir Mitchell s rest cure . As she wrote in her essay Why I Wrote the Yellow Wallpaper? , [the story] was not intended to drive people crazy, but to save people from being driven crazy... (107). By her own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hippocrates explained that the various symptoms of hysteria, such as nervousness, depression, and hysterical fits, were caused by the uterus s interactions with the other organs in the body. In his text On the Nature of Women he explains the cause and treatment of a hysterical fit: If the uterus comes towards the liver, the female suddenly becomes speechless, and clenches her teeth, and her color comes back...In such situations, push beneath the liver with the hand and tighten a bandage beneath the hypochondria, and by opening the mouth administer a most fragrant wine, and anoint the nostrils and apply malodorous fumigations. And fragrant fumigations below the uterus. (Palis 227) Not only was the uterus capable of wandering around the body, it was believed that the womb was attracted and repelled by certain odors. Gilman seems to address the ridiculousness of such logic when she refers to the inconsistencies in the design of the wallpaper in The Yellow Wallpaper. The narrator complains, On a pattern like this, by daylight, there is a lack of sequence, a defiance of law, that is a constant irritant to a normal mind (263). This same complaint could be used against the popular view of hysteria. The theory that the woman s uterus dislodged itself in the body and wandered around aimlessly violates natural law. This research paper is about Alzheimer s Disease (AD) which is a specific type of dementia that is closely related to aging. AD accounts for 50 to 80 percent of dementia cases. AD usually affects people 65 and older, but it can start in rare cases around 40 to 50. 5.3 million people in America have been diagnosed with AD, and almost two thirds of the population that has been diagnosed are women (Alzheimer s Association, 2015). Since then, there have been many more breakthroughs in the research of AD. In the 1960 s, scientist found a relationship between cognitive decline and the number of plaques in the brain. In the 1970 s AD was documented as the most common type of dementia (Bright Focus Foundation, 2015). In 1984 another ground breaking discovery was made. In 1984 the Beta Amyloid was discovered by George Glenner and Cai ne Wong (Alzheimer s Association, 2015). In the 1990 s a few more discoveries were made, such as complex nerve cells, and genetics coincident, and AD susceptibility. • 10. Developing Two Bioanalytical Sensing Platforms Essay The aim of this project is to develop two bioanalytical sensing platforms as a means to study phenomena in organized 3D cellular microenvironments that appropriately model key aspects of biological habitats. Three important questions, listed below, will be addressed during this project, which we discuss in detail in Sections 3.1 3.3. (1) Can we determine concentrations of cellular biogenic species (NO, H2O2) in organized microcommunities using T CUAs? (2) Can we monitor proximity dependent cellular behavior in dynamic microcolonies? (3) Can we perform real time analyses of cellular behavior in response to in vivo environments? 3.1 T CUAs for Electrochemical Detection of Cellularly Derived Biogenic Species in Organized 3D Microenvironments. The complex environments in which cells interact can have diverse cellular populations and be susceptible to changes that influence cellular survival, division, differentiation, death and virulence. Such dynamic responses are often mediated, at least in part, by changes in the concentration of biogenic signaling molecules. Hence, detection of these chemical species is key to understanding cellular communication. Using T CUAs as electrochemical sensors in tandem with µ3DP cell cultures, we will electrochemically detect two signaling molecules, NO and H2O2, directly from macrophages and S. gordonii cells, respectively. And, this is true because the more people get to know the company, its services, and its products, the more brand identity it will form among current customers. Also, large companies benefit from having more loyal customers because they engage in word of mouth activities which can potentially attract more customers. So, there are many ways in which a company can increase their loyalty levels. But, when it comes to increasing market share, a better way could involve the increase in revenues among consumers. This can be done by opening more stores, offering products online, and by offering volume discounts. And, as a result, the company may be able to increase revenues and potentially increase its market share. Eventually, it could lead to an increase in the amount of loyal customers overall. Moreover, it can be said that loyalty programs and other related marketing activities can only make a difference in the long run because the result are hardly noticeable in the short run due to the fact that it takes time for a buyer to become an actual loyal customer. When it comes to developing a well designed loyalty program, marketers should take into account the value being offered to consumers with respect to the prices of the products. When looking at these counterarguments individually it is easy to dismiss these disagreements. Some believe that the vast unequal distribution in United States can be used as an example of what is wrong with Nozick s theory, but this is simply not valid. Although there are definitely issues with the wealth distribution in the United States, many of those problems are addressed in Nozick s theory. One cannot simply look at the current state of wealth distribution and ignore the history behind the problems. A majority of the current unequal distribution is due to a long history of unjust practices in business related to acquisition and transfer. Using Nozick s theory of property distribution these problems become obsolete. Nozick s theory includes rules that need to be followed, which prevent the unjust transfer of goods by using coercive measures. By following this rule, we immediately avoid the wealth gained by people who use unjust practices to gain their wealth. People might also point to the unequal distribution experienced by different racial groups as evidence against Nozick s theory. This argument can also be discredited using Nozick s third and final rule, which declares that problems caused by past injustices need to rectified. This rule would immediately help fix issues with unequal distribution of wealth between whites and minorities. Throughout history minorities have been handicapped by problems with equality causing them to essentially fall behind economically. That was the meaning behind that war. However, why do societies go to war, other than to fight for independence? Whether it s a war or just invasion, it is still a means of bombarding a country or society without any rights. Regardless of the invasion and the reason being, the people of the country being invaded are affected and so are the veterans invading the country. Most veterans returning from a war struggle from post traumatic stress disorder, individuals in societies are blind to the fact that these people are mentally unstable because of the experience they go through. Everything from family status to beliefs about abortion can determine how a person will vote. In my presentation, however, I focused on three aspects that effect voter turnout and elections. I found, in my research, that a voter s age, sex and party identification greatly factor into how a person will cast his or her vote. Men and women differ greatly in many aspects of life, and voting is one of them. In the 1992 Presidential elections, women were found by the U.S. Census Current Population Reports to have voted two percent more than men did. Of the 62% of women who did vote, more were found to have supported Bill Clinton rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... this low voting rate was attributed to a general lack of feeling of responsibility. As young adults age, marry, and become parents, their sense of community and responsibility increases, while their apathy toward voting decreases, (Abramson 116). Another reason for low voter turnout numbers for 18 to 24 year olds is their generally low levels of party loyalties. Not having strong party ties decreases one s incentive to vote. Registration and voting organizations such as MTV s Rock the Vote have been accredited with increasing young Americans voter turnout numbers. Rock the Vote s primary focus, since its founding in 1990, has been increasing voter registration within the nation s youngest age group. The organization frequently hosts Get Out the Vote drives on college campuses and on concert tours in order to reach young people. since its beginning, support for Rock the Vote has been massive, and in 1992 it was recognized for influencing more than one million young voters to participate in electing their President. We are made aware, however, of Socrates special charm and intellectual gifts through the insistence of Polemarchus and the other men for the pleasure of his company. The tone is casual and language and modes of expression rather simple, as is commonly the case in Plato s dialogues. However, Plato s unaffected style serves at least two purposes. Socrates response (another question) clarifies his epistemology: quot;how can anyone answer who knows, and says that he knows, just nothing?? quot; What Socrates knows is incommunicable other than to say that he knows nothing. And, acutely aware of this fact, Socrates repels every temptation toward dogma, characterized by Thrasymachus complaints. The second definition of justice, obedience to the interest of the stronger, is Thrasymachus veiled justification for tyranny (might is right), and is foreshadowed in his indecorous demand for payment. He is portrayed in sharp contrast to Socrates, who suggests that the stronger may not always know his own interest; therefore, at times, it is necessary for the weaker to disobey him. Socrates then successfully upsets the definition by demonstrating that, insofar as his role is an art, a ruler acts in the best interest of his subjects, as exemplified by the physician for his patients and the captain for his crew. Still unresolved, the debate moves into a second stage, where tyranny, or perfect injustice, and benevolent rule, or perfect justice, are evaluated against one another. An educated person has the ability and drive to succeed no matter what social and economic background one has. Knowing the reason why being highly educated matters in life, and having a passion to learn. Similarly, to understand what is learned during the process of being educated, take the time to truly comprehend the facts, and the reasons behind the facts. Otherwise they might be forgotten and if so, are you still an educated person? Consider the following methods: the banking concept where facts are repeated to you and from that are memorized so you can repeat them back, and the problem posing concept where ideas are introduced and everyone learns from each other (Freire 144, 147). The ability and drive to succeed no matter what stands in your path, whether the problem is economical, social, or cultural, overcoming obstacles is a part of life that everyone does and each hurdle is a step closer to the end goal; the prize of being educated. In the beginning of this story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a commander of an aircraft. The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a way that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the basic structure that this story will set forth. The unwritten rule of not allowing blacks to play professional baseball had been standing since the 1880s. No professional sport in America at the time had any participating African Americans, yet many African Americans were participating in the Olympics. Famous African American olympians, such as Jesse Owens and John Taylor, were highly celebrated for their accomplishments, yet no change was made within the professional sports world.
