Summary Of Modern Technology In The Movie I Robot
I Robot, directed by Alex Proyas, is a film that shows how modern technology will advance within the
years; making people question their everyday lifestyle. In I Robot, the main character Detective Del
Spooner, had us follow his journey on questioning societal expectations. This all began from the
creation that Dr. Alfred Lanning, who created the robots as well as V.I.K.I. The main NS5 robot in the
movie is named Sonny, who questioned his purpose of life as a robot. This Film was designed to have
us question, understand the rules and order in situations and evolve with society. In this film, we can
recognize that Det Del Spooner isn t too keen on having robots around to help with their tasks. He
believes that by having the NS5 robots do our tasks makes us as humans less dependable on ourselves.
We don t evolve and become stagnated in our own society waiting for the robots to do the chore. Det
Del Spooner witnesses how everyone around him fully rely on their robots for their tasks. One scene
where Det Del Spooner observes a robot running with a purse. Of course, he assumed that the robot
just stole the bag. Afterwards, it is uncovered that this robot was not stealing but running to give his
owner her purse. Consequently, the robot was just doing his job and helping his owner. This displays
how Det Del Spooner is very cautious and doesn t believe that the robots will maintain the laws set up
for them when created. The laws were set up to protect the humans, to obey the

The Government Intervention Of International Business Essay
When governments amongst nations conduct in international business, it exposes them to increased
risks and costs through unfair trade and bribery in order to obtain a competitive advantage or power.
Mercantilism explains why the government intervention of international business increases the
chances of these risks. Mercantilism is the theory that explains, the government will maintain their
economy and trade to promote their own domestic industry at the cost of the other country leading to
unfair trade (Pettinger,2016). As all governments will not play by the same rules, there is an increase
in risks such as unfair tariff policies or bribery in order to gain a competitive advantage. In fact, many
governments across nations will use these unfair actions to gain an increase in power. Hill (2015)
states that nations like China are striving for a more neo mercantilist policy (a more modern theory of
mercantilism where economic power is the equivalent to a trade surplus) to gain a trade surplus.
During most of the 2000s, their exports have been increasing whereas their imports have not grown
because they have been limited by an import substitution policy. While China is able to benefit from
the trade surplus, it is at the cost of another nation where the money that will be paid for those imports
will decrease. Therefore, government intervention in international business increases risk like unfair
trading to gain a competitive advantage. The government also increases the cost of

The Crusades Paper
The Crusades were expeditions that originated in completion of a solemn vow in order to deliver the
Holy areas from Mohammedan domination. The origin of the word can be traced to the cross. This
meaningful cross was worn as a badge on the outer garment of those who took part in these enterprises
and also made out of cloth. Since the Middle Ages, the meaning of the word crusade has been
comprehended to contain all wars undertaken in the act or practice of pursuing a vow. It was also
directed against infidels who were the Mohammedans, Pagans, Heretics, or those under the bar of
excommunication. Modern literature has abused the word crusade by applying it to all wars having
anything to do with religion. An example would be the voyage of ... Show more content on

In Asia Minor, they turned to spoils and were nearly all slaughtered by the Turks. Meanwhile,
according to the well thought out plan, the four principal armies were to meet at Constantinople and
the regular crusade was being organized in the West. The Germans, the French from the north,
Godfrey of Bouillon, and the Duke of Lower Lorraine followed the valley the Danube, crossed into
Hungary and arrived at Constantinople on December 23rd,1096. Several different groups of Christian
leaders would proceed in all directions for the conquest and fight for Christianity in the East. Hugh of
Vermandois, brother of King Philip I of France, Count Stephen of Blois, and Robert Courte Heuse,
Duke of Normandy would lead groups of French and Normans across the Alps and were heading
towards Apulia where they took the Via Eqnatia to Constantinople and set up troop in May of 1097.
The French from the south were lead by Raymond of Saint Gilles, Bishop of Puy, Count of Toulouse,

The Role Of Escapism In The 2000 s
However, these concepts were thought of in the early 90 s, the world has gone under the most
significant change to present day. The last 25 years the world has undergone a transformation similar
to that of the industrial revolution. The internet revolution or the information age has fundamentally
changed the way the world is run in every facet. Every industry has adapted or been revolutionised by
the information age, with media being no exception. As new forms of media emerged, concepts such
as online gaming and online gambling became reality in the 2000 s. A limiting factor in consumerism
being a form of escapism it the monetary component, not everyone has disposable income nor do they
engage with spending their money on frivolous items. However, the internet gave anyone means in
which to consume without the dollar price tag attached. For example, one ... Show more content on

That key factor was that the internet was all artificial stimulus. The internet is artificial stimulus, it is
not real or tangible, one cannot go a physically grab or hold the internet. Therefore, the internet is
itself, a hyperreality. Baudrillard feared the era of hyperreality as the reality principle disappears in
this new paradigm (Baudrillard, 1991, pg 331). According to Baudrillard, in the electronic era, it is the
real that has become our utopia but a utopia that is no longer in the realm of possible that can only be
dreamt of as one would dream of a lost object (Baudrillard, 1991, pg.123). Baudrillard feared what
was the simulation simulacra, the concept of a system in which their aim is maximum operation,
hyperreality total control (Baudrillard, pg, 1991, pg.309). This could be misunderstood as total control
of the world, however it means total control of the individual. Baudrillard feared the fact that the
world would prefer the simulacrum over reality, that simulacrum would become

Thiazide Diuretic Essay
Thiazides are diuretic that works on removing extracellular fluid from the body. It is used in heart
failure and hypertensive patients. Thiazide diuretic works primarily in the distal tubular of the
kidneys. Diuretics affects the electrolyte balance and reduce blood pressure in the body and therefore
should be monitored closely. Thiazide diuretic works by decreasing plasma volume which reduces
venous return and diminishes cardiac output causing blood pressure to fall. This change in plasma
volume with a diuretic can stimulate both the sympathetic nervous system and the renin angiotensin
aldosterone system. The degree in which these systems activate governs the magnitude of acute blood
pressure decrease with both diuretic monotherapy and diuretics given in combination with ... Show

During the first few weeks of treatment, plasma volume returns to slightly less that pretreatment
levels, despite the continued administration of a diuretic. In the chronic phase of treatment, the
vasodepressor influence of a diuretic emerges as a process driven by a reduction in total peripheral
resistance (Sica, 2004). According to Woo Robinson (2015), thiazide and loop diuretics decrease the
renal excretion of lithium and may induce lithium toxicity. Thiazide diuretic is one of the drugs that
have been there for many years to treat high blood pressure. This drug works in such of way that it
excretes sodium and chloride out of the body; it lowers arterial pressure resulting in vasodilation and
reduces cardiac output by decreasing extracellular fluid and plasma volume (American Heart
Association, 2016). One of the major problems associated with thiazide diuretic is hypokalemia which
can in result effect the kidneys (American Heart Association, 2016). It is important to ensure that
patients who are taking thiazide diuretics that their potassium level is within range. Low potassium
can lead to abnormal rhythms in the heart and can even cause the heart to stop beating

Character Analysis Of Daniel KeyesFlowers For Algernon
Humans are human; all people change in one way or the other over the course of certain events. Some
of the changes people experience may cause them to have a sad outlook on certain matters, others may
cause people to have a positive outlook on a matter. Just like all other humans, Charlie, from Daniel
Keyes Flowers For Algernon changes over some time too. His life drastically changes after he gets
surgery to alter his intelligence level. In Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon, Charlie becomes a
different person over the course of events. His most significant changes include his mentality towards
certain people and his attitude, and also the sudden regression of his mental health after his surgery.
First off, one of the main changes Charlie faces is his ability to think about other people that he uses to
think where his friends. Friends are one of the defining factors of what a certain person will turn out to
be like, or how they feel about certain matters. Poor friends will give second rate influences and will
most likely ruin a person s life, but good friends will make a person feel happy and support this
person. Charlie is faced with not so great friends in Flowers For Algernon. According to his progress
reports, many of Charlie s friends bully him. Charlie does not know this at certain times during the
book, but the reader does. His friends make fun of him and make him do stupid things. In Progress
Report 8, on March 25, Joe Carp said hey look where Charlie had his operashun what did they do
Charlie put some brains in. Charlie does not realize it, but Joe Carp is actually making fun of him to
an unacceptable level where sensitive topics such as intelligence are involved. As the book goes on,
Charlie slowly starts to realize that his so called friends were actually just making fun of him and
laugh mainly because he did something goofy.
On the contrary, Charlie is also blessed to have a few great friends and even mere acquaintances in his
life. One of the most significant friends that Charlie makes in Flowers For Algernon, is Miss Kinnian.
Even though the author, Daniel Keyes, never states directly that Miss Kinnian isn t Charlie s friend,
the reader can infer so based on the progression of

Mambo Dance History
The mambo genre and dance style have a linked history. Since its origins in Cuba, Mambo has
evolved into many dance forms, each one sporting different footwork and moves. All of these new,
fast pace movements originated from the basic Mambo dance, which was popularized by Dámaso
Pérez Prado. The lively mambo song, Mambo No. 5 was composed and performed in 1952 by the
Cuban Mexican band leader Perez Prado. He was famously known as the King of the Mambo . Prado
recorded numerous mambos and when he ran out of inspiration, he would simply number them.
Mambo No. 5 was the most famous out of a series of 8 mambos. (Songfacts, 1) The piece was
recorded in Mexico City in the late 1940s, which was a major media center, and its musical trends ...

Perez Prado was the lead singer of his orchestra. He was born in Matanzas, Cuba, where he studied
classical piano during his early childhood. Later as he grew up, he played the organ and piano in local
clubs. (Brown,1) For a short period of time, he was a pianist for La Sonora Matancera , Cuba s best
known musical group.(Wilson,1) In 1948, he moved to Mexico to form his own band to record for
RCA Victor, a recording studio.(Siegel,1) Prado specialized in mambos, an upbeat adaptation of the
Cuban culture. At the height of the mambo movement in 1955, Prado hit the American charts at
number one with his self composed Mambo No.5. The sound of this composition is lively and upbeat.
The song is mostly instrumental comprised of a few monophonic vocals towards the end of the song.
It has a polyphonic texture, where the wind instruments play several independent melodies and the
percussion is in the background as the harmony. The most recognizable instruments in the piece are
the trumpet, saxophone, timbales and the drums. The dynamics throughout the composition is forte
and even fortissimo at certain points. There is a few vocal in this composition that are sung in Spanish.

French And Indian War Causes
The French and Indian war started in 1756 and lasted until 1765. The war cost a lot of money, King
George III made the colonists pay for the war by raising taxes. The taxes from the war made the
colonists angry and revolt against the crown. King George III was doing what was best for the United
Kingdom not the colonists. In his eyes the colonists were peasants. He put the people of the United
Kingdom first. Benjamin Franklin made the famous cartoon join or die to inspire the people to fight in

This made the colonists very angry. Then the angry colonists received another tax in 1767 called the
Townshend Acts. It made them pay extra for imported goods from Britain and outlawed them getting
imported goods from anywhere else. Then there was the Boston Massacre where many good people
lost their lives. In 1770 the colonists threw snowballs at the british regulars which is a great offence
but not enough to kill five people over it. Thats right five people died from the musket barrels of the
british regulars that gruesome day. It made the colonists so angry at the crown, more angry than they

Sexual Assault Prevention Essay
Sexual Assault Prevention
Sexual Assault Prevention
Every two minutes a woman is sexually assaulted in the United States (FBI, 2003). According to the
Federal Bureau of Investigation, sexual assault is the most under reported violent crime in the United
States. In 2005, the Armed Forces received 2,374 reports of alleged cases of sexual assault involving
its members. Of these figures, the Air Force received 584 reports. That is an increase of 28 percent
over the past year (DoD, 2005). The Air Force is concerned with the safety, dignity, and well being of
all its members. The Air Force does not tolerate sexual assault and has implemented a comprehensive
policy that reinforces prevention, response, and accountability.

The Air Force is focusing on eliminating those barriers by providing both unrestricted and restricted
reporting. Unrestricted reporting is recommended for victims of sexual assault who desire medical
treatment, counseling, and an official investigation of the crime. Since June 2005, military victims of
sexual assault have been offered a restricted reporting option, which allows those who have been
sexually assaulted to receive medical treatment and support without automatically triggering a
criminal investigation.
In an effort to ensure victims receive consistency in support services provided, the Air Force has
instituted essential training tasks for first response groups, such as medical personnel, law
enforcement and chaplains. Furthermore, the Air Force has trained 201 permanent Sexual Assault
Response Coordinators (SARC) to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Offenders can only be
held accountable for their actions if the victim reports the crime as unrestricted.
According to a 2000 Criminal Victimization Survey, only 16% of reported rapes result in prison
sentences. Furthermore, the closer the relationship between the victim and the offender the greater the
likelihood that law enforcement will not be told about the sexual assault. The Air Force has been
aggressively addressing this national problem. Military commanders have a variety of punishment
options for alleged offenders. The disposition in

Why Do so Many Professional Athletes Go Broke After...
Jay Nicholls Economics of Sports Prof. Enz 4/5/13 Why do so many professional athletes go broke
after retirement? After watching ESPN s 30 for 30, Broke, my mind starting pondering this question of
why and how so many professional athletes are blowing through the millions they make while playing
their specific sport? It is amazing that someone can spend that much money so quickly. What are they
buying and who are they buying things for? Where are they spending it? Where do they go wrong?
When did this trend start and will it continue in the future? What are the league officials doing in order
to prevent this tragedy from happening? These are some of the questions I will try to answer
throughout this paper. In March of 2009 Pablo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seymour also brings up a good point that is often overlooked by people on the outside or the fans; this
is the length of professional sports careers. There are very few athletes in any sport that can last long
enough to retire and have enough money to not worry about the rest of their lives. Athletes such as
Brett Favre, Cal Ripken, Chris Chelios and Gordie Howe are the rare exceptions to this rule. Howe
played professional hockey throughout five decades spanning nearly fifty years. An article from
quanthockey.com stated that the average NHL player will play between five and six seasons in the
league no matter what position they were. On average that accounted for roughly 238 games played
for skaters but far less for goaltenders ( Average Length of an NHL Player Career ). The numbers
across the other three major leagues are very similar or lower. However hockey players, for the most
part, are either good with their money or good at staying out the spotlight if they do go broke. The

Psychology Should Be About Behavior And Not About An Inner...
B.F. Skinner was a psychologist that seemed to go against what many other psychologists thought
about personality. He did not believe in personality. In a way, Skinner has a point about personality not
existing because we do change our behavior based on the environment we are in. (Olson Hergenhahn,
2011.) Since there is no proof of a personality, I believe that psychology should be about behavior and
not about an inner force. I do not believe a person is consistent across time because if they were
consistent across time, every person would always act the same no matter what situation they are in.
Many times, after the death of a loved one, a person acts a little different and often times seems lose
for a period of time. Due to the environmental change, a happy and lovable person may seem sad and
standoffish during the death of a loved one. Not only did Skinner not believe in personality, he had his
own opinion on personality. (Introduction.) He believed that if children are not properly reinforced or
engaged in school, the children may drop out. (B. F. Skinner on Education.) Modifying a child s
learning behavior begins with a classroom environment that involves a rewarding atmosphere. This
way, the child will be rewarded by coming to school and learning something. The problem with the
reward system is that you want to slowly wean the children off of the reward system over time, in a
way conditioning the children to be positively reinforced without having to be rewarded.

Assata Shakur Response Paper
Assata Shakur has the most direct commentary out of all of the activists that we have
discussed. One can sense her urgency for the unity of black people and how her past experiences
shaped her into the person she is today. In Assata: An Autobiography, some of her most
intriguing comments were the comments about self hatred in the black community. She is
adamant about addressing and fixing the self hate among black people. However, though
attempts have been made by organizations such as the BPP, activists like Malcolm X, and an
array of others to spread African American pride, the self hate and jokes continue even today.
Shakur discusses and describes the hatred that blacks have within by mentioning the ... Show more

For instance, her involvement
with the Republic of New Afrika, and her violent mentality was a bit too extreme for me.
However, analyzing Shakur made me realize that there was a difference among the activists from
the 19th and early 20th century and the ones from the mid 20th century. Compared to the older
activists we have discussed, there seems to be a push for self worth, not just how to achieve
equal rights or make whites accept black people. Malcolm X pushes for this belief in self worth
and unity among black people as well.3 This becomes important in my opinion because black
people have struggled for centuries attempting to gain equality and during its duration have
naturally endured identity issues. I feel that W.E.B Du Bois idea of double consciousness comes
into play here. His idea that African Americans have basically two identities or thought
processes, one being Black and the other being American or through the eyes of white people
could have possibly created divisions among blacks, causing some to despise themselves. 4
What intrigues me most about not only Assata Shakur, but even Martin Luther King and
Malcolm X, is that there seems to be a move from just equality, but to equality and love. While
each of the three activists expresses their ideas of what love means

Xbox 4 Vs Xbox One The Showdown
PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One the Showdown Shigeru once said, The Obvious objective of video games
is to entertain people by surprising them with new experiences. Since, the early 1990 s, there has only
been two heavy weight gaming consoles: PlayStation and Xbox. Over the years, they both have
tremendously evolved into impressive gaming consoles. A gaming console is a device which outputs a
video image onto a screen. The term gaming console is used to distinguish them from arcade machines
and computers. Currently, the latest models are the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. Even though,
the PS4 and Xbox One are both excellent gaming consoles. They do have a few differences such as
price, exclusive games, and exterior/interior design. When buying a gaming consoles, be prepared to
spend a lump sum of cash. The PS4 used to cost 400 dollars since being first released back on
November 14, 2013, but recently it has dropped down to 350 dollars. The Xbox One price has
fluctuated since first being released on November 22, 2013. When it first launched in the United
States, the original price was 100 dollars more than that of the PS4 s original price of 400 dollars. In
todays society, people or perhaps only me, tend to buy the cheaper options of things. So of course,
people brought the PS4 over the Xbox One. Microsoft must have thought their gaming console was far
superior than Sony s gaming console so they made it cost more. This action by Microsoft weakened
the Xbox One sales. In

Perihelion Distances
Space is extremely vast, and planets are tiny specks by comparison to the distance between them,
which means that a random object flying through the solar is extremely unlikely to collide with Earth,
and only a small number of the objects in our solar system even have the possibility of coming near
Earth. First, it is necessary to understand how astronomical orbits are defined. Three key terms, as
explained by WSU s introductory astronomy course, are the semi major axis, the perihelion distance,
and the aphelion distance. The semi major axis is half of the elliptical orbit s main axis, and is also the
object s average distance to the sun, the perihelion distance is the closest distance the object ever gets

Vce Essay Comparison Two Artists
Compare the ideas, techniques and approaches of two ceramic artists from different periods (Alan
Peascod and Bernard Leach). Australian ceramics has experienced an exciting evolution over the past
60 years, when ceramics was first offered as a full time course at RMIT in 1947. At that time, the high
priests of pottery were Shoji Hamada o f Japan, and Bernard Leach in the UK, who shared similar
philosophies and aesthetic values. Leach wrote The Potters Book which was to become the bible , or

The strong cultural influence of his early potting years in Japan remained evident in Leach s work
throughout his life, Leach having said he believed that: Oriental forms transcend mere good looks
(Retrieved on 4 July 1020 from http://www.aber.ac.uk/museum/collections/collectingceramics.shtml).
Having said that, there is evidence that Leach also identified with the wholesome, rustic character of
medieval English pottery. This fusion of Japanese and English aesthetics and attitudes was also
embraced by early potters in Australia, filtering through to some of Peasod s very early works when he
trained in the Anglo Eastern tradition under Rushforth at ESTC then under Les Blakeborough at Sturt
Gallery Studio. However in the early 1970 s time spent in Egypt established in Peascod a lifetime love
affair with the ancient forms, colours and luster techniques found there. This passion and natural
affinity remained evident in Peascod s work throughout all his productive life. From a contemporary
perspective, current ceramic artists might challenge that Leach s domestic wares were categorized as
craft, and this is an age old debate that has gained momentum since the 1980 s when ceramicists began
producing work which questioned the categories and boundaries of art and craft and claimed ground
for the sculptural and conceptual in ceramics ......... declaring(ing) the right to continue a tradition of
contemplative and emphatically non utilitarian ceramic forms .

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Influence The Art World
For my essay I have chosen to write about the great Leonardo da Vinci or his less known full name

Literacy Observation Report Sample
I completed my literacy field experience at Isanti Intermediate School/School for all Seasons in Isanti,
MN. I was able to complete my 20 hour observation in a 1st grade classroom (primary), a 3rd grade
classroom (intermediate), and conducted fluency tests in a 5th grade classroom. Each class had
approximately 22 to 25 students. Also during this literacy class, I was also able to spend a few days
observing a 3rd/4th grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom through a couple of sub jobs I
completed. I need to note that my understanding was that 3rd grade was part of the intermediate
program so I completed half my observation and assessment time with a 3rd grade classroom and
completed a 3rd grader assessment. I am happy to say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I conducted the first part of my assessment (word lists) to determine what passage would be
appropriate for the 1st grade student. I was very nervous to conduct this assessment because I was
worried about not being able to determine students reading level and/or not being able to figure out the
area (i.e. fluency, comprehension, etc.) in which the student needed additional support in. I am happy
to say that it wasn t as scary as I thought. I was surprised how much I learned about the student by
simply reviewing their list of words. It was pretty obvious when they were hitting the frustration level.
September 21, 2017 (8:30 12:30) My classroom experience included: observing the classroom teacher
leading group discussion (reviewing sight words, decoding words, and reading the weekly story),
assisting students with reading worksheets (practice writing their letters and identifying beginning
sounds of words), and reviewing the weekly story with each student. This particular teacher strictly
uses a basal reader (Reading Streets) so I was very interested to observe her teaching using these
particular materials. I have substituted in her classroom many times and have found it very hard to
teach utilizing these lessons. Students often become restless and their eyes seem to gloss over because
of boredom. I often thought that I must be doing something wrong when I am teaching the materials,

Biblical References of the Matrix Essay
Biblical References of the Matrix In their film, The Matrix, Andy and Larry Wachowski have included
many literary allusions and symbols to enhance the appeal of this groundbreaking science fiction film.
As incredible as the special effects and cinematography are in this film, the Wachowski brothers have
significantly bolstered the appeal of The Matrix by an elaborately constructed story spanning time and
reality. These allusions and symbols include references from infamous writers such as Lewis Carol,
Jung, John Bunyan and Descartes. However, the most meaningful and abundant references come from

The main plot of The Matrix is that Artificial Intelligence has taken over humanity. These human
created machines now harvest humans in crops in order to provide energy for them to survive. It is

generated world is known as the Matrix. It is a computerized simulation of life as we know it, or we

Laurence Fishburne s character, Morpheus, puts it; the matrix is a computer generated dream world

Ingenuity In The Odyssey
The hero s character is itself quite unique, multifaceted such as his ingenuity. We can often call
Ulysses by several nicknames, but those who return the more often showcase his ingenuity: the
Inventive , industrious, ingenious . Moreover, it is to him that the Greeks owe their victory, thanks to
the Trojan Horse ruse. Odysseus uses his ingenuity when a threat arises, but also by taste. Prudence
and dissimulation are two features of this inventiveness. Thus, to protect himself, he maintains the
mystery about his identity, as among the Phaeacians, but also on his return to Ithaca, helped by
Athena. Odysseus, in his insightful intelligence, borders on the prudent wisdom of one who knows,
that warns and teaches his companions. Another virtue of his personality ... Show more content on

Ulysses is also a skilled orator, whose words are calculated and convincing: he knows how to say
compliments to Calypso that soothe her anger. But the most important role and attitude and the most
moving of Odysseus is the nostalgia for his homeland. Thus, Odysseus suffers from being held far
from Ithaca, and thus because of the anger of Poseidon, who does not forgive him for having blinded
Polyphemus, his son. The suffering of Odysseus actually makes him also a sensitive hero in the
Odyssey, far from conceited warrior of the Iliad. But to accomplish these feats, Odysseus needs
weapons, and they are different from what one would expect. First, these are the weapons of man, and
not those of the warrior that will allow Odysseus to survive from his adventures. He is a hero of
endurance. This virtue is constantly emphasized in the epithets such as the patient . With the amount
and hardness of the hardships he has endured, is the hero in the eyes of mortals, but also for the gods.

The experiential learning activity I will be participating in is attending Mass at a Catholic church. In

Monument To Mosby s Men
Monument #1: Monument to Mosby s Men:
Confederate Colonel John Singleton Mosby was quite the character. Known as the Gray Ghost , his
strategy of rapid military assaults against Union troops proved deadly effective (Wheeler,

Individualism Is Celebrated As An Achievement Of Our...
In our modern society, individualism is celebrated as an achievement of our culture, economy, and
success. It basks in the light of personal success overthrowing the success of the community, and
believes that to be personally successful is more important than the success and solidarity among the
people you identify with. In the 19th century of Latin America, this ideology was forced onto a society
that perceived itself as a collective culture. The success of the majority was more important than the
success of the individual to the non Europeans of Latin America. To be successful for the community
was success in itself, as you were helping the group. If the community suffered, then you would suffer
as well. There was not one person in the community who was at fault for the majority failure, but the
whole community was at fault. The European individualistic ideology took the traditional collective
perspective and destroyed it with class systems, culture conflict, economic change, and lack of options
for the people of Latin America to change the course of their land s ideologies. The beginning of the
indoctrination of individualism was the divide between the elite and the folk in Latin American. The
elite people of Latin America were those from the mother country of the colony, or descendents of
people from the mother country. They represented the wealth, skills, power, and birthright of those in
the highest class in Latin America (5). The folk of Latin America were the

The Kkk And The Klux Klan
There was a time when the Ku Klux Klan took over the Republican Party and dominated Colorado
politics. In the 1920s, from Maine to California, in the cities and in rural communities, large numbers
of men and women joined the KKK (Fleming). The KKK was and still are part of the Colorado
history, for one could still find the Klan in Colorado, for the KKK ran the state Colorado from1924 to
1932 until it was disempowered by Franklin Delano Roosevelt.. After the election of 1924, the
governor Clarence Morley the mayor of Denver, Benjamin Stapleton, and U.S. Senator Rice Means
were all Klansmen. Also, the state s House of Representatives for the most part were ran by the Klan.
The KKK marched and burned crosses in small towns throughout the state, from Great Plains through
the mountains to the Western Slope. As Denver, Pueblo, Grand Junction, Canon City and other towns
and cities surrendered to the Klan, only one major city escaped: Colorado Springs.
Six Confederate veterans from Pulaski, Tennessee created the original Ku Klux Klan on December 24,
1865, during the Reconstruction of the South after the Civil War. The KKK stretched into almost
every southern state by 1870 and became a mouthpiece for white southern resistance to the
Republican Party s Reconstruction era policies designed to create political and economic equality for
blacks. The members conducted a campaign of intimidation and violence directed at white and black
Republican leaders. Though Congress passed legislation

The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden
Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise up
and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires fell.
Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them were
over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins,
wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European
Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the British, and the
Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular empires justified their
conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the people who rebelled against
them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is
more power. However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals occupying
that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were acceptable reasons as to why an empire
was more luxurious, or in other words better , than the systems they had in place before. The most
common ideology between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being
barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology and coupled it
with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an empire: They

Age Of Enlightenment DBQ
The Age of Enlightenment, a movement during the 17th and 18th century started from the Europeans,
later moving into American colonies. The point of this movement was for the society to reform on a
new base such as emphasizing reason and individualism over tradition. Enlightenment thinkers,
Montesquieu, Rousseau, Beccaria, Locke, and Voltaire helped launched this project amongst
Europeans. John Locke, for example, criticized absolute monarchy and favored self government.
Voltaire also believed that people should be able to speak their minds without the fear they may be
punished. Through these philosophy influence, this eventually leads to European rulers ruling with a
sense of equality, democratic governance, and abolition. John Locke known as an Enlightenment
thinker believed in the equality between men. A state also of equality, wherein all the power and
jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having more than another...by an evident and clear appointment, an
undoubted right to dominion and sovereignty (Doc. 2). John Locke stated this in 1690 with the
meaning that everyone is equal no matter what their rank or power may be. They must all have the

initiatives taken by these corporations benefit all the stakeholders. These stakeholders vary from the

However, what about the majority and common good of the people, like jobs? Murray Dobbin is one
of Canada s most popular progressive political commentators and analysts who explained that,
They influence politicians and political parties with huge amounts of cash; they threaten government
that dare to consider any laws that lessen their power or privilege; they withdraw capital to punish
governments that don t take them seriously; they spend millions on lobbyist to persuade legislators
(Dobbin).
Officials are not required to keep formal records of their contracts with lobbyists, and there is some
scope for lobbyists to avoid registration by claiming that they are merely responding to requests for
information from officials. The government has set up regulations relating to lobbying, but these
regulations are not restricting lobbying, it is making it even more legal. Teeple outlined that,
The process of registering lobbyists began under the Mulroney government in 1989. The Lobbyists
Registration Act essentially puts the onus on lobbyists to register, pay a fee, and list their areas of
interest. By its very principles, the Act legitimizes the role of the lobbying industry (Teeple).

A name that once reminded him of that horrifying day he almost died now brings him joy. Towards the

Gogol frowns, and his lower lip trembles. Only then, forced at six months to confront his destiny, does

Analysis Of The Movie Iron Jawed Angels By Martin...
There have been many great activist in history, fighting against the oppression of African Americans.
Martin Luther King Jr is famous for his I have a dream speech that took place on August 28, 1963. Dr.
King led to the ending of the legal segregation among black and white people. In Dr. Kings essay
Three ways of Responding to Oppression, he clearly states three ways to deal with oppression. Dr.
King believed the best defense against oppression being that of nonviolent resistance. The film Iron
Jawed Angels (IJA) is also great example of oppression with the struggle to women rights in the
United States. Mr. King stated that there are three ways of oppression that oppressed people deal with,
acquiescence, physical violence, and nonviolent resistance. One must come out of their comfort zone
in order to see new and in most cases better outcomes. Mr. King said, In every movement towards
freedom some of the oppressed prefer to remain oppressed . This is exactly what happens in some
cases, where the person prefers to continue with the unjust being done just because they know no
other way or because they have become so accustom to that life style. For example, slaves started to
get so use to being just slaves that they would not protest to try to have a better life style. Some did not
think that they could have a better life, or even thought they did not deserve a better life since they had
been told so many times. In the film IJA, they give a great example with the senators

Social Class During Ancient Roman Music
Social Class in Ancient Roman Music What was social classes impact on the evolution of music in
Ancient Rome? That is an important question because it parallels how music in modern day, mostly
American, society has progressed. Similar to Rock and Roll being taken from the Blues(History), the
Romans took all of their musical knowledge from the areas the empire conquered. The Roman empire
was alive from 146 BCE 395 CE, the empire covered most of modern day Europe, and small parts of
North Africa, and Asia. The Romans conquered Greece in 146 BCE, and as with other cultures the
Romans adopted the styles of music, incorporated their religious beliefs, and emulated their forms of
education. Greece was especially admired and much was borrowed from them, and much of Greek
and Roman traditions are still held in modern western civilizations. As the Roman empire expanded, it
was spreading unifying and peaceful influence throughout Europe. In 200 CE when the Barbarians
threatened the stability of the empire, the empire began its gradual decline. In 306 337 CE,
Constantine the I, an emperor, practiced Christianity and made it legal for the first time. By end of
century Christianity had a strong influence over many of the regions, cultivating a source of music for
centuries to come. Then, in 395 CE the empire split. Music had several different influences across the
Roman empire. Music sprouted from the influence of ancient Greece, it then had its own place in
everyday life, and then came

Persuasive Essay On Reaching Goals In Life
Just Keep Climbing Imagine being over eight thousand meters above sea level, blind with altitude
sickness, dizzy from lack of oxygen, and still having to muster the strength to push through blankets
of snow at a nearly sixty degree incline. Reaching goals in life sometimes feels like one uphill climb
after another. The most important thing to remember is to keep a positive mindset during the entire
journey. Nothing is too great to accomplish because If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you
can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for
you (New International Version, Matt. 17.20). This sets out the true analogy between reaching the
summit of a mountain and making a dream into a reality. I aspire to achieve pure felicity in everyday
moving forward. I will attain this goal by living boundlessly, building candid relationships, and
attending Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University. To live without limitations and
confinement is to live boundlessly. One must have intrepidity through every good and bad day that
comes along to exemplify this. Everyday that one receives on this earth is another chance to broaden
horizons. Time is precious just like the Word of God is to one who may be going through strife. I am
going to spend my free time in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, the Ocoee River in

Human Self Deception And The Modular Mind
Wahid Murad
Professor Walker
English 110
Paper #2 assignment
16th March 2016 Human self deception and the modular mind
The model of three planes of the mind is nothing new. Sigmund Freud, the famous Austrian
psychologist was the first to make this widespread into majority of society as we know it today. Even
though his theories have from time to time been widely debated among Psychologists because they are
nearly impossible to justify scientifically, Freud nevertheless created a handy theoretical model of the
mind, which he separated into 3 tiers or sections the conscious mind or ego, the preconscious, and the
unconscious mind.
Our conscious mind is what people associate us with, as it is where most people exist and thrive daily.
The conscious mind consists of everything that we are aware of. This is the part of our psychological
processing that we can think and talk about rationally in other words this the cognitive portion.
The subconscious part of the mind, on the other hand, is in charge of our most recent memoirs, and it
is in spontaneous interaction with the resources of the mighty unconscious mind. It is the portion of
the mind that signifies regular memory. While we are not consciously aware of this information at any
given time, we can recover it and bring it into consciousness when required.
The unconscious mind is the depot of all existing memories and experiences from the past, these are
the stuff that have been bottled up through distress.. It is safe to

Essay On The Great Chicago Fire
The Great Chicago Fire was one of the significant devastation that happened in the eighteenth century.
Through this tragic event, hundreds of people died and thousands of buildings were completely
destroyed in the fire. Before, the city was flourishing as more people traveled and decided to call
Chicago their home. After the fire destroyed most of the surrounding area, people began blaming one
another for the deaths of all the people. As time passed, Chicago slowly began to rebuild like never
before. Although the city of Chicago continued to grow before the fire, after, the city boomed with the
abundance of money and people. Moreover, because there was destruction, the people of Chicago,
Illinois did not allow a fire to stop them from creating more opportunities for the future. The city has
changed from the fire, but because of the help that was received, it was able to get rebuilt, and invite
new individuals to explore the wondrous city of Chicago. Before the fire destroyed over half of the
area, Chicago was overflowing with history on how this area became a city. In addition, the first
records of people ever moving into the territory of Chicago was during the seventeenth century, but
the first tribes who lived on this land where the Miami, Sauk, and the Fox. (Owens, 20). The first two
people who surveyed the area in 1673, were Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet who traveled from

Islam And The United States Essay
There is not much information on when Muslims first arrived in America, but there has been evidence
that some of the slaves were Muslim, but didn t have the ability to practice their religion freely, they
also tried to accommodate their faith with Christianity, but others were converted. It was about twenty
percent of the slaves in the US were Muslim. One of the first known Muslims in the United States,
was a slave from Morocco, named Estevanico, who was shipwrecked with Spanish Explorers near the
where the city Galveston, Texas is. After that there weren t many Muslims coming into the United
States until the twentieth century. This is shown by the evidence that one of the first mosques was
built in North Dakota in 1929, and while the mosque was demolished a Muslim cemetery still stands
near the spot of that mosque. Islam started in the 7th century with a prophet named Muhammad. It is
an Abrahamic religion, like Judaism and Christianity, but Muslims believe that Islam is a step further
than the other two religions.
According to a Gallup Poll from 2008, out of the 319751 respondents only 946 identified as Muslim,
which is around .29 percent of the respondents. In the Gallup report, they also mention that 35% of
Muslim Americans are African American, 18% are Asian, it is not broken down into whether it is
South Asian or East Asian, and 18% is other.
Pew states that in 2014 28% are Black, 28% Asian, and 3% Other, out of a sample size of 232. Also in

How Do Honey Bees Communicate
How the honey bees communicate? They are not using the hum vibrations emitted by the wings to
pass the information. Experiments show that honey bees are no auditory organs, they will not hear any
sound. Honey bees use dance language and pheromones to communicate and share information with
one another. When a honey bee discovers a new food source, it will tell the other honey bees about its
location through the honey bee dance.
There are three types of honey bee dances that are the round dance, the tail wagging or waggle dance
and sickle dance. Round dance (figure 1) is a series of narrow circular movements. This is used to
indicate that the presence of food is within 50 meters of the hive. The honey bees may repeat the
dance several times at the same location or move to the other location on the honeycomb to repeat it.
A round dance just indicates the distance but the direction from the hive is not indicated. ... Show

distance and direction are communicated in waggle dance. The direction to the food source is the

example: a waggle straight up the comb is a direction straight toward the sun and a waggle down the

The Philosophical Adventure Of A Mystery Teacher
Sophie Amundsen realized her ordinary life will never be the same when she begins to receive
philosophical lesson from a mystery teacher. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the different life
lessons given to Sophie and how the life around us today is completely owed to the early
philosophers. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and many other philosophers, although persecuted for their
ideas at the time, had ideas that would revolutionize society and they way they learned about the
universe. In addition, the philosopher used short stories or anecdotes in order to help Sophie better
understand the complex philosophical questions. I will be examining these and providing information
on why he chooses to use these anecdotes and how they apply to ... Show more content on

Although there is nothing wrong with that, some, like the philosopher, chose a different route. When
Sophie receives the first note, it simply asked, Who are you? Many may have thrown the note away,
but Sophie decided to keep it. She pondered the question for a while, and put some real thought into it.
She thought about her appearance; her eyes, her hair, and her frequent dissatisfaction with the way she
looked. Other than that, she found it hard the answer the question (pg. 5). I think many struggle with
this in general. If you are asked to describe yourself with information other than your physical
features, you usually draw a blank. Why is that? Is it possible that too much time is spent carrying out
the daily duties, such as work, school, and family that we may not spend enough time on self
reflection? Going through the motions of life can keep you occupied, not leaving much room worldly
epiphanies. You cannot find out whether there is a God or whether there is life after death in an
encyclopedia. Nor does the encyclopedia tell us how we ought to live. However, reading what other
people have believed can help us formulate our own view of life, (Gaardner, 2007).

Self Disclosure In Social Work Essay
In Social Work practice there are different criteria about social workers self disclose to clients. Some
of them consider that it is positive, and this kind of disclosure does not affect the social work or
clinical practice. The other side, there are others point of views that consider self disclosure to clients
a Code of Ethic transgression or violation. In my opinion, I consider that social workers should not
self disclose to client in order to keep high standard in clinical practice and avoid conflicts of interest.
This kind of practice is an evident violation of the Code of Ethic that rules our profession. The Code
of Ethic is very clear about this particular issue since multiples conflicts of interest may arise during

disclose to clients is a conflict of interest since the Code of Ethic defines the high standard for a social
worker practice in the previously mentioned settings as: Social workers should work toward the
maintenance and promotion of high standards of practice. Social workers who are under treatment,
they must decide to disclose this information to clients they serve in a substance abuse program.
Social workers who provide school counseling may need to decide what to disclose clients about the

Social workers who provide psychotherapy may need to decide what to disclose to clients about the

Rooting Android Phones Essay
Rooting Android Phones
Smartphones have become more and more common compared to a decade ago. Google s Android
operating system is riding a wave of popularity that has rapidly eclipsed Apple s iOS. However,
despite the relative openness and flexibility of the OS, your Android phone still isn t as powerful and
customizable as it could be. To unlock all of your phone s potential, you ll need to root it.
The words root , rooting , jailbreaking , root access , and unlocking are terms that are used as the same
thing. Rooting pertains generally to Android devices, such as Samsung Galaxy, Motorola Droids
devices, etc.), while jailbreaking pertains to iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.). Android rooting is

(Phelps, To Root or Not to Root ).
Most Android devices come with hardware that is fairly heavily capable, yet the OS limits them and
becomes the bottleneck. By rooting, you actually remove the bottleneck and hence can take full
advantage of your beloved Android. For example, the OS does not allow overclocking a device s CPU
natively, and hence overclocking can only be done with a rooted phone. Root users can overclock the
phone s CPU to give it a performance boost by telling the device s processor to run at a speed slightly
higher than it was set to run at. Or suppose you want to use your phone s LED as flashlight but cannot
because the phone manufacturer and/or the carrier provider don t support the feature, rooting will
allow you to bypass this limitation. Furthermore, rooted users can free up their phone s memory. By
default, app is installed and stored on the phone s memory. Rooting allows you to move installed
applications to your memory card (microSD, SD), thus freeing up system memory for additional files
or apps.
Another popular thing to do is to change the look and feel of the device by changing the theme or
custom user interface (UI). Custom UI s are skins that the manufacturer s put on top of Android in
order to differentiate their devices from other Android devices. Some people might not like the custom
UI that the manufacturer put, or they prefer other company s UI. For these reasons, Android
developers have made a ROM (read only memory)

The Truth behind the Foster Care System Essay
As family structure changes children pay the biggest price. They may lose the luxury of a stable home
or school to call their own, when parent are no longer in the picture either. This is an issue that is
largely ignored by society and most importantly the government. Without the foster system, children
would be left abandoned and forgotten by all. The foster system provides thousands of homes for
foster children each year, with parents that can give them what they need. But, foster care in America
is inadequate for all American foster children and needs to be improved. Improvements are critical in
bettering American foster systems, these improvements include, creating programs, finding more
stable homes, and starting mentoring programs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also a lack of foster parents as well, to take in children. As long as the number of foster
parents does not increase, there could be up to six foster children in one home ( All Foster 9). It should
become one of the top priorities to find stable homes for foster children to avoid the overcrowding. A
stable home for foster children is exceedingly critical but the health of foster children is fundamental
as well.
The health of children entering the foster system is very important, but not always stressed. When
entering the foster care system some children enter with health issues, such as developmental and
psychiatric disorders (All Foster par. 3). There could be many reasons why they enter with these
health issues. One could be due to the abuse and neglect many children encounter while with
biological parents (par. 3). While in the care of foster parents, the health of foster children can be
neglected as well (par. 4). Younger foster children do not receive adequate preventive health care
while in placement, many significant problems go undetected, or, when diagnosed are not evaluated
and treated, stated U.S. General Accounting Office (par. 5). (The U.S. General Accounting Office is an
investigative arm for the U.S. Congress.) This is a problem and can result in death while a child is in
care. Between 2000 and 2007, about thirty foster children died while in the care of foster parents,

The Blessed Month Of Ramadan
The blessed month of Ramadan, the time when almost 2 billion muslims around the world are fasting
and attempting to do extra good. Fasting was obligated two years after the muslims migrated to
Medina from Mecca. In Mecca, the economic conditions for the muslims were bad, they were being
persecuted, and often would go days without food or water. It was already difficult enough for them to
find food, it wouldn t be possible for them to abstain from something they were in extreme need off.
After they migrated to Medina, it was like a sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many
were actually waiting for them to arrive. After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed.
Many people may wonder why are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from
food? Who would look forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than
just abstaining from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your
temper, and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said,
Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it about
purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good deeds such as
giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. As we go through the day in hunger and
thirst, we experience the feeling of the poor who cannot afford a meal, which would result

Digital Screen Advantages And Disadvantages
Paper or plastic? was the often heard question from the bagger at the grocery store for many years, but
these days the bigger decision is whether to read words on paper or a digital screen. Paper has a long
and documented history, having been in use for over 2000 years, while the availability of the digital
screen has only come about in the past 50 years. Both paper and digital screens provide the same
fundamental function, an avenue for the written word to be conveyed and understood by a person.
While the ability to look at print on paper or on a screen are fundamentally the same, using paper still
has a unique set of advantages such as the smaller chance of being sidetracked, the accuracy of
proofreading, and the increased comprehension that the digital screen has not caught up to yet. The
ability to get easily distracted while using a digital screen provides a driving reason to consider
hardcopy to accomplish tasks. Tasks often have deadlines, and this doesn t change when having to
accomplish reading for a project or a research paper. The longer it takes the user to finish the reading,
the harder it becomes to accomplish the job in the allotted time. Using a laptop or desktop computer to
perform reading can be advantageous to the user due to the ability to have multiple documents open
and be able to do any number of other tasks at the same time. This is certainly a reason to perform
work using the digital screen, but this becomes a drawback when being used to

  • 2. Summary Of Modern Technology In The Movie I Robot I Robot, directed by Alex Proyas, is a film that shows how modern technology will advance within the years; making people question their everyday lifestyle. In I Robot, the main character Detective Del Spooner, had us follow his journey on questioning societal expectations. This all began from the creation that Dr. Alfred Lanning, who created the robots as well as V.I.K.I. The main NS5 robot in the movie is named Sonny, who questioned his purpose of life as a robot. This Film was designed to have us question, understand the rules and order in situations and evolve with society. In this film, we can recognize that Det Del Spooner isn t too keen on having robots around to help with their tasks. He believes that by having the NS5 robots do our tasks makes us as humans less dependable on ourselves. We don t evolve and become stagnated in our own society waiting for the robots to do the chore. Det Del Spooner witnesses how everyone around him fully rely on their robots for their tasks. One scene where Det Del Spooner observes a robot running with a purse. Of course, he assumed that the robot just stole the bag. Afterwards, it is uncovered that this robot was not stealing but running to give his owner her purse. Consequently, the robot was just doing his job and helping his owner. This displays how Det Del Spooner is very cautious and doesn t believe that the robots will maintain the laws set up for them when created. The laws were set up to protect the humans, to obey the ... • 3. The Government Intervention Of International Business Essay When governments amongst nations conduct in international business, it exposes them to increased risks and costs through unfair trade and bribery in order to obtain a competitive advantage or power. Mercantilism explains why the government intervention of international business increases the chances of these risks. Mercantilism is the theory that explains, the government will maintain their economy and trade to promote their own domestic industry at the cost of the other country leading to unfair trade (Pettinger,2016). As all governments will not play by the same rules, there is an increase in risks such as unfair tariff policies or bribery in order to gain a competitive advantage. In fact, many governments across nations will use these unfair actions to gain an increase in power. Hill (2015) states that nations like China are striving for a more neo mercantilist policy (a more modern theory of mercantilism where economic power is the equivalent to a trade surplus) to gain a trade surplus. During most of the 2000s, their exports have been increasing whereas their imports have not grown because they have been limited by an import substitution policy. While China is able to benefit from the trade surplus, it is at the cost of another nation where the money that will be paid for those imports will decrease. Therefore, government intervention in international business increases risk like unfair trading to gain a competitive advantage. The government also increases the cost of ... • 4. The Crusades Paper The Crusades were expeditions that originated in completion of a solemn vow in order to deliver the Holy areas from Mohammedan domination. The origin of the word can be traced to the cross. This meaningful cross was worn as a badge on the outer garment of those who took part in these enterprises and also made out of cloth. Since the Middle Ages, the meaning of the word crusade has been comprehended to contain all wars undertaken in the act or practice of pursuing a vow. It was also directed against infidels who were the Mohammedans, Pagans, Heretics, or those under the bar of excommunication. The last 25 years the world has undergone a transformation similar to that of the industrial revolution. The internet revolution or the information age has fundamentally changed the way the world is run in every facet. Every industry has adapted or been revolutionised by the information age, with media being no exception. As new forms of media emerged, concepts such as online gaming and online gambling became reality in the 2000 s. According to Baudrillard, in the electronic era, it is the real that has become our utopia but a utopia that is no longer in the realm of possible that can only be dreamt of as one would dream of a lost object (Baudrillard, 1991, pg.123). Baudrillard feared what was the simulation simulacra, the concept of a system in which their aim is maximum operation, hyperreality total control (Baudrillard, pg, 1991, pg.309). • 7. Thiazide Diuretic Essay Thiazides are diuretic that works on removing extracellular fluid from the body. It is used in heart failure and hypertensive patients. Thiazide diuretic works primarily in the distal tubular of the kidneys. Diuretics affects the electrolyte balance and reduce blood pressure in the body and therefore should be monitored closely. Thiazide diuretic works by decreasing plasma volume which reduces venous return and diminishes cardiac output causing blood pressure to fall. This change in plasma volume with a diuretic can stimulate both the sympathetic nervous system and the renin angiotensin aldosterone system. The degree in which these systems activate governs the magnitude of acute blood pressure decrease with both diuretic monotherapy and diuretics given in combination with ... In the chronic phase of treatment, the vasodepressor influence of a diuretic emerges as a process driven by a reduction in total peripheral resistance (Sica, 2004). According to Woo Robinson (2015), thiazide and loop diuretics decrease the renal excretion of lithium and may induce lithium toxicity. Thiazide diuretic is one of the drugs that have been there for many years to treat high blood pressure. This drug works in such of way that it excretes sodium and chloride out of the body; it lowers arterial pressure resulting in vasodilation and reduces cardiac output by decreasing extracellular fluid and plasma volume (American Heart Association, 2016). One of the major problems associated with thiazide diuretic is hypokalemia which can in result effect the kidneys (American Heart Association, 2016). • 8. Character Analysis Of Daniel KeyesFlowers For Algernon Humans are human; all people change in one way or the other over the course of certain events. Some of the changes people experience may cause them to have a sad outlook on certain matters, others may cause people to have a positive outlook on a matter. Just like all other humans, Charlie, from Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon changes over some time too. His life drastically changes after he gets surgery to alter his intelligence level. In Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon, Charlie becomes a different person over the course of events. His most significant changes include his mentality towards certain people and his attitude, and also the sudden regression of his mental health after his surgery. First off, one of the main changes Charlie faces is his ability to think about other people that he uses to think where his friends. Friends are one of the defining factors of what a certain person will turn out to be like, or how they feel about certain matters. Poor friends will give second rate influences and will most likely ruin a person s life, but good friends will make a person feel happy and support this person. Charlie is faced with not so great friends in Flowers For Algernon. According to his progress reports, many of Charlie s friends bully him. Charlie does not know this at certain times during the book, but the reader does. His friends make fun of him and make him do stupid things. In Progress Report 8, on March 25, Joe Carp said hey look where Charlie had his operashun what did they do Charlie put some brains in. Charlie does not realize it, but Joe Carp is actually making fun of him to an unacceptable level where sensitive topics such as intelligence are involved. As the book goes on, Charlie slowly starts to realize that his so called friends were actually just making fun of him and laugh mainly because he did something goofy. On the contrary, Charlie is also blessed to have a few great friends and even mere acquaintances in his life. One of the most significant friends that Charlie makes in Flowers For Algernon, is Miss Kinnian. Even though the author, Daniel Keyes, never states directly that Miss Kinnian isn t Charlie s friend, the reader can infer so based on the progression of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of these new, fast pace movements originated from the basic Mambo dance, which was popularized by Dámaso Pérez Prado. The lively mambo song, Mambo No. 5 was composed and performed in 1952 by the Cuban Mexican band leader Perez Prado. He was famously known as the King of the Mambo . Prado recorded numerous mambos and when he ran out of inspiration, he would simply number them. Mambo No. 5 was the most famous out of a series of 8 mambos. Since June 2005, military victims of sexual assault have been offered a restricted reporting option, which allows those who have been sexually assaulted to receive medical treatment and support without automatically triggering a criminal investigation. In an effort to ensure victims receive consistency in support services provided, the Air Force has instituted essential training tasks for first response groups, such as medical personnel, law enforcement and chaplains. Furthermore, the Air Force has trained 201 permanent Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARC) to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Offenders can only be held accountable for their actions if the victim reports the crime as unrestricted. According to a 2000 Criminal Victimization Survey, only 16% of reported rapes result in prison sentences. After watching ESPN s 30 for 30, Broke, my mind starting pondering this question of why and how so many professional athletes are blowing through the millions they make while playing their specific sport? It is amazing that someone can spend that much money so quickly. What are they buying and who are they buying things for? Where are they spending it? Where do they go wrong? When did this trend start and will it continue in the future? What are the league officials doing in order to prevent this tragedy from happening? Seymour also brings up a good point that is often overlooked by people on the outside or the fans; this is the length of professional sports careers. There are very few athletes in any sport that can last long enough to retire and have enough money to not worry about the rest of their lives. Athletes such as Brett Favre, Cal Ripken, Chris Chelios and Gordie Howe are the rare exceptions to this rule. Howe played professional hockey throughout five decades spanning nearly fifty years. An article from quanthockey.com stated that the average NHL player will play between five and six seasons in the league no matter what position they were. On average that accounted for roughly 238 games played for skaters but far less for goaltenders ( Average Length of an NHL Player Career ). The numbers across the other three major leagues are very similar or lower. • 13. Psychology Should Be About Behavior And Not About An Inner... B.F. Skinner was a psychologist that seemed to go against what many other psychologists thought about personality. He did not believe in personality. In a way, Skinner has a point about personality not existing because we do change our behavior based on the environment we are in. (Olson Hergenhahn, 2011.) Since there is no proof of a personality, I believe that psychology should be about behavior and not about an inner force. I do not believe a person is consistent across time because if they were consistent across time, every person would always act the same no matter what situation they are in. Many times, after the death of a loved one, a person acts a little different and often times seems lose for a period of time. Due to the environmental change, a happy and lovable person may seem sad and standoffish during the death of a loved one. Not only did Skinner not believe in personality, he had his own opinion on personality. (Introduction.) He believed that if children are not properly reinforced or engaged in school, the children may drop out. (B. F. Skinner on Education.) Modifying a child s learning behavior begins with a classroom environment that involves a rewarding atmosphere. This way, the child will be rewarded by coming to school and learning something. The problem with the reward system is that you want to slowly wean the children off of the reward system over time, in a way conditioning the children to be positively reinforced without having to be rewarded. ... One can sense her urgency for the unity of black people and how her past experiences shaped her into the person she is today. In Assata: An Autobiography, some of her most intriguing comments were the comments about self hatred in the black community. She is adamant about addressing and fixing the self hate among black people. For instance, her involvement with the Republic of New Afrika, and her violent mentality was a bit too extreme for me. However, analyzing Shakur made me realize that there was a difference among the activists from the 19th and early 20th century and the ones from the mid 20th century. Compared to the older activists we have discussed, there seems to be a push for self worth, not just how to achieve equal rights or make whites accept black people. Malcolm X pushes for this belief in self worth and unity among black people as well.3 This becomes important in my opinion because black people have struggled for centuries attempting to gain equality and during its duration have naturally endured identity issues. I feel that W.E.B Du Bois idea of double consciousness comes into play here. His idea that African Americans have basically two identities or thought processes, one being Black and the other being American or through the eyes of white people could have possibly created divisions among blacks, causing some to despise themselves. 4

Since, the early 1990 s, there has only been two heavy weight gaming consoles: PlayStation and Xbox. Over the years, they both have tremendously evolved into impressive gaming consoles. A gaming console is a device which outputs a video image onto a screen. The term gaming console is used to distinguish them from arcade machines and computers. Currently, the latest models are the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. Even though, the PS4 and Xbox One are both excellent gaming consoles. They do have a few differences such as price, exclusive games, and exterior/interior design. When buying a gaming consoles, be prepared to spend a lump sum of cash. The PS4 used to cost 400 dollars since being first released back on November 14, 2013, but recently it has dropped down to 350 dollars. The Xbox One price has fluctuated since first being released on November 22, 2013. When it first launched in the United States, the original price was 100 dollars more than that of the PS4 s original price of 400 dollars. In todays society, people or perhaps only me, tend to buy the cheaper options of things. So of course, people brought the PS4 over the Xbox One. Australian ceramics has experienced an exciting evolution over the past 60 years, when ceramics was first offered as a full time course at RMIT in 1947. At that time, the high priests of pottery were Shoji Hamada o f Japan, and Bernard Leach in the UK, who shared similar philosophies and aesthetic values. Having said that, there is evidence that Leach also identified with the wholesome, rustic character of medieval English pottery. We can often call Ulysses by several nicknames, but those who return the more often showcase his ingenuity: the Inventive , industrious, ingenious . Prudence and dissimulation are two features of this inventiveness. Thus, to protect himself, he maintains the mystery about his identity, as among the Phaeacians, but also on his return to Ithaca, helped by Athena. First, these are the weapons of man, and not those of the warrior that will allow Odysseus to survive from his adventures. He is a hero of endurance. It basks in the light of personal success overthrowing the success of the community, and believes that to be personally successful is more important than the success and solidarity among the people you identify with. In the 19th century of Latin America, this ideology was forced onto a society that perceived itself as a collective culture. The success of the majority was more important than the success of the individual to the non Europeans of Latin America. To be successful for the community was success in itself, as you were helping the group. If the community suffered, then you would suffer as well. The European individualistic ideology took the traditional collective perspective and destroyed it with class systems, culture conflict, economic change, and lack of options for the people of Latin America to change the course of their land s ideologies. The beginning of the indoctrination of individualism was the divide between the elite and the folk in Latin American. • 31. The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them were over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins, wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is more power. However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals occupying that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were acceptable reasons as to why an empire was more luxurious, or in other words better , than the systems they had in place before. The most common ideology between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology and coupled it with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an empire: They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is an important question because it parallels how music in modern day, mostly American, society has progressed. Similar to Rock and Roll being taken from the Blues(History), the Romans took all of their musical knowledge from the areas the empire conquered. The Roman empire was alive from 146 BCE 395 CE, the empire covered most of modern day Europe, and small parts of North Africa, and Asia. The Romans conquered Greece in 146 BCE, and as with other cultures the Romans adopted the styles of music, incorporated their religious beliefs, and emulated their forms of education. Greece was especially admired and much was borrowed from them, and much of Greek and Roman traditions are still held in modern western civilizations. As the Roman empire expanded, it was spreading unifying and peaceful influence throughout Europe. In 200 CE when the Barbarians threatened the stability of the empire, the empire began its gradual decline. In 306 337 CE, Constantine the I, an emperor, practiced Christianity and made it legal for the first time. By end of century Christianity had a strong influence over many of the regions, cultivating a source of music for centuries to come. Then, in 395 CE the empire split. • 40. Human Self Deception And The Modular Mind Wahid Murad Professor Walker English 110 Paper #2 assignment 16th March 2016 Human self deception and the modular mind The model of three planes of the mind is nothing new. Sigmund Freud, the famous Austrian psychologist was the first to make this widespread into majority of society as we know it today. Even though his theories have from time to time been widely debated among Psychologists because they are nearly impossible to justify scientifically, Freud nevertheless created a handy theoretical model of the mind, which he separated into 3 tiers or sections the conscious mind or ego, the preconscious, and the unconscious mind. Our conscious mind is what people associate us with, as it is where most people exist and thrive daily. The conscious mind consists of everything that we are aware of. This is the part of our psychological processing that we can think and talk about rationally in other words this the cognitive portion. The subconscious part of the mind, on the other hand, is in charge of our most recent memoirs, and it is in spontaneous interaction with the resources of the mighty unconscious mind. It is the portion of the mind that signifies regular memory. While we are not consciously aware of this information at any given time, we can recover it and bring it into consciousness when required. The unconscious mind is the depot of all existing memories and experiences from the past, these are the stuff that have been bottled up through distress.. It is safe to ... • 43. How Do Honey Bees Communicate How the honey bees communicate? They are not using the hum vibrations emitted by the wings to pass the information. Experiments show that honey bees are no auditory organs, they will not hear any sound. Honey bees use dance language and pheromones to communicate and share information with one another. When a honey bee discovers a new food source, it will tell the other honey bees about its location through the honey bee dance. There are three types of honey bee dances that are the round dance, the tail wagging or waggle dance and sickle dance. Round dance (figure 1) is a series of narrow circular movements. This is used to indicate that the presence of food is within 50 meters of the hive. She thought about her appearance; her eyes, her hair, and her frequent dissatisfaction with the way she looked. Other than that, she found it hard the answer the question (pg. 5). I think many struggle with this in general. If you are asked to describe yourself with information other than your physical features, you usually draw a blank. Why is that? Is it possible that too much time is spent carrying out the daily duties, such as work, school, and family that we may not spend enough time on self reflection? Most Android devices come with hardware that is fairly heavily capable, yet the OS limits them and becomes the bottleneck. By rooting, you actually remove the bottleneck and hence can take full advantage of your beloved Android. For example, the OS does not allow overclocking a device s CPU natively, and hence overclocking can only be done with a rooted phone. Root users can overclock the phone s CPU to give it a performance boost by telling the device s processor to run at a speed slightly higher than it was set to run at. The foster system provides thousands of homes for foster children each year, with parents that can give them what they need. As long as the number of foster parents does not increase, there could be up to six foster children in one home ( All Foster 9). It should become one of the top priorities to find stable homes for foster children to avoid the overcrowding. A stable home for foster children is exceedingly critical but the health of foster children is fundamental as well. The health of children entering the foster system is very important, but not always stressed. When entering the foster care system some children enter with health issues, such as developmental and psychiatric disorders (All Foster par. 3). There could be many reasons why they enter with these health issues. One could be due to the abuse and neglect many children encounter while with biological parents (par. 3). While in the care of foster parents, the health of foster children can be neglected as well (par. 4). Younger foster children do not receive adequate preventive health care while in placement, many significant problems go undetected, or, when diagnosed are not evaluated and treated, stated U.S. General Accounting Office (par. 5). Fasting was obligated two years after the muslims migrated to Medina from Mecca. In Mecca, the economic conditions for the muslims were bad, they were being persecuted, and often would go days without food or water. It was already difficult enough for them to find food, it wouldn t be possible for them to abstain from something they were in extreme need off. After they migrated to Medina, it was like a sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many were actually waiting for them to arrive. After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed. Many people may wonder why are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from food? Who would look forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than just abstaining from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your temper, and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said, Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it about purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good deeds such as giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. • 51. Digital Screen Advantages And Disadvantages Paper or plastic? was the often heard question from the bagger at the grocery store for many years, but these days the bigger decision is whether to read words on paper or a digital screen. Paper has a long and documented history, having been in use for over 2000 years, while the availability of the digital screen has only come about in the past 50 years. Both paper and digital screens provide the same fundamental function, an avenue for the written word to be conveyed and understood by a person. While the ability to look at print on paper or on a screen are fundamentally the same, using paper still has a unique set of advantages such as the smaller chance of being sidetracked, the accuracy of proofreading, and the increased comprehension that the digital screen has not caught up to yet. The ability to get easily distracted while using a digital screen provides a driving reason to consider hardcopy to accomplish tasks. Tasks often have deadlines, and this doesn t change when having to accomplish reading for a project or a research paper. The longer it takes the user to finish the reading, the harder it becomes to accomplish the job in the allotted time. Using a laptop or desktop computer to perform reading can be advantageous to the user due to the ability to have multiple documents open and be able to do any number of other tasks at the same time. This is certainly a reason to perform work using the digital screen, but this becomes a drawback when being used to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
