crop duster sequence of North by Northwest (Alfred Hitchcock, USA, 1959) By focusing on these
three techniques I hope to establish what effect they have on us and how that effect is achieved? I
will look closely and analyse certain shots in this sequence, which I feel are significant in creating
suspense. By dissecting the layers of each shot, I hope to reveal the technique and intentions behind
them.
The first significant shot I will discuss is just after Eva Marie Saint s face dissolves. This
extreme aerial shot established the vast area in which Cary Grant faces. The camera stays in its
fixed high angle as a bus approaches with Grant. The bus drives off and the camera angle and
frame do not change. This establishes the setting for the viewers. Such extreme high angle shots
make characters into pawns (E. Roger, 2008, 4). In other words it evokes the insignificance of a
single human being in such a vast and secluded area.
With nothing around the slow pacing in the beginning of this sequence can be seen as a tantalising

has popped up before in prior readings, so there is some familiarity with both concepts. Now comes
what their synthesis looks like in practice. In this light the readings forced me to re examine
positionality, especially in the framework of auto ethnography. At first I thought this was too
obvious but in light of the titular question Stacey asks Can There Be a Feminist Ethnography? the
feminist researcher s proximity to the data and interpretation positionality becomes the fraught
answer to consider, Her awkwardness (if that s the right word) in balancing the tightrope as an
ethical researcher between product and personal integrity feels unexpected yet palpable. The
dilemma she faces forced my recognition that conflicts of interest and emotion between the

Abstract:
Using solutions of sugar and water alongside cola, density and percent sugar can be related. The
purpose of this lab is to discover how and with what benefit these factors can be related. Using
assorted measurements and the standard curve of the calculated densities and percentages of sugar
solutions, it was learned that cola has an approximate percent sugar of four percent, according to the
calculations of the lab. Other results included actual percent sugar of soda and various statistics on
measured sugar solutions. Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to explore how density can be used to measure sugar content and percent
sugar of beverages not only in the lab, but in the real world. Using the standard curve of the
percent sugar and density of the solutions in the lab, the percent sugar of regular Coke was
determined. The standard curve represented the general trend in the correlation of the values
calculated in the lab. Using the data from the experiment, the actual amount of sugar in the soda

giving them life; some good news they ve received etc.

The eighteenth century marked a period of renewal within Italy. This transition saw the acceptance
of new philosophies that were rampant throughout most of Europe (Yawney 2). The Age of
Enlightenment, as it has come to be known, brought upon changes within the realms of economic,
social, and religious affairs. However, amidst any form of radical change come those who do not
attest to it. In his fable, The Green Bird, Venetian dramatist Carlo Gozziincorporates subject matter
that attacks not only the realism seen in Carlo Goldonis theatre but also the thought of modern
Enlightenment ideology.
The first half of the Age of Enlightenment saw Italy more as a spectator as opposed to an active
participant within the ever changing affairs of Europe. Italy could not yet incorporate the growing
ideology of the Enlightenment due to the Roman Catholic Church that governed the land. However,
with the decline of that absolute ecclesiastical authority near the latter half of the eighteenth
century, Italy gradually delved into enlightenment thought, and slowly became part of the
movement that was dominating Europe. The continuance of scientific research ensued, which led
to studies in history and archaeological science. Recognition of social conditions throughout Italy
influenced the study of economics and socio political issues. These new philosophies proved to be
