Formal Links in English Selected Poems: A Discourse AnalysisAJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: This study aims to analyze formal links in English selected poems. The researcher used the
theory of formal links introduced by Guy Cook to analyze the types and the role of formal links that are used in
the poems. By using descriptive qualitative methods, the researcher found that each selected poem employs at
least five formal links. The data analysis shows that all formal links play some important roles to the selected
poems. One of those roles is to create coherence of the poems. The other roles of formal links that the researcher
finds out in the selected poem are: showing the plot of the poem, pointing out the position of the poet or the
object that is told in the poem in the time sequences, creating the beauty of the poem through the rhyme,
emphasizing some important point in the poem, avoiding ambiguity, avoiding the repetition of the similar
words, simplifying the text, and showing the relationships between one information to the other information in
the poem
Discourse analysis (Linguistics Forms and Functions)Satya Permadi
Discourse analysis is an umbrella term for all those studies within applied linguistics which focus on units/stretches of language beyond the sentence level (Judit, 2012). We as the human is use a natural language utterance which language serves in the expression of 'content' described as transactional and that function involved in expressing social relations and personal attitudes we describe as interactional. Spoken and written language has relation each other. But written language and spoken language have different form. The book concerns with sentence which is 'text-sentence‘, so it will connected to behavior and involves contextual considerations. The data which is used in this book is based on the linguistic output of someone other than the analyst. Besides, discourse analyst discovers regularities in his data.

What is literature ?
Literature is a term use to describe written or spoken material. The term is most commonly used to refer to words of the creative imagination including works of poetry, drama, fiction and non-fiction. Literature is the art of written works. It is the body of written works of a language period or culture. Literature is published in written works in a particular style or particular subject. Literature is the mirror of life. Our life and all the subject are related to our life is the subject matter or element of literature. So we can get the touch of our life trough literature.Etymologically, literature has to do with letters, the written as opposed to the spoken word, though not everything that is written down is literature.
What is the function of literature ?
As based conception, Aristoteles in “poetic’ that the function of literature is called “catharsis the primary functions of literature are to delight the reader, and heighten his awareness of life. The subsidiary functions are ‘propaganda’, ‘release’ and ‘escape’; but they are subordinated to the primary creative functions of literature.Propaganda literature’ must be distinguished from mere propaganda in which there is nothing creative. The writer of mere propaganda is simply concerned to popularize facts, ideas, and emotions with which he is familiar. But propaganda that is literature is a creative influence irradiating and transforming the writer’s experience.‘Release literature’ is that in which the dominant motive of the writer is simply the assuagement of starved needs, the release of pent-up forces in the personality. Romances, detective stories, thrillers, poems etc.
Literature also provides ‘escape’ from the grim realities of life, and many people read to escape boredom. The higher type of literature helps the reader to escape from trivial reality into significant reality.
Element of Narrative

Kurdish-English Code-Switching in FacebookIsmail abdulla
The purpose of the present study is to introduce code-switching from Kurdish to English and the other
way around by the Kurdish, with an English background, Facebook users. Another purpose of the current paper
is to explain the role of this phenomenon in sociolinguistic, functional and structural perspectives. It also aims at
positing the functions and reasons that trigger the Facebook users to code-switch in their Facebook interactions.
On this basis, the researcher has deteeles the accounts of 6 Kurdish native speaking Facebook users with good
linguistic competence and performance in English; each of these users is educated and holds BA, MA, or PHD in
English Language and Literature. After collecting enough data from these users‟ Facebook posts and comments,
the researcher has analyzed them to fulfill the aforementioned objectives. At the very beginning, it has been
hypothesized that Kurdish-English code-switching in Facebook can be examined according to the codeswitching six-function model of the American sociolinguist, Gumperz. As a result of this attempt, the study has
come out with a bundle of useful outcomes and findings. It has been concluded that in addition to the sixfunctions of Gumperz‟s, Kurdish- English code-switching performs four further functions, referred to in detail in
the conclusions section.
A pragmatic analysis of some Quranic verses in Light of Grice's cooperative p...Ismail abdulla
The present paper is an attempt to evaluate the
applicability of Grice’s Co-operative Principle and Conversational
Maxims, as one of the outstanding models in Pragmatics, to some
selected Quranic conversations. Grice’s model is regarded as
template for the flow of conversations and interactions held
between people. Quran, as a Holy Text in Islam, contains many
speech events, i.e., situations wherein conversations take place. In
the stories narrated in Quran, there are situations in which, as the
ordinary life of the human beings, participants converse with one
another. In this study , the researchers examine the applicability
of the conversation model of Grice to the Quranic conversations.
To this end, the researchers have quoted some verses from Quran,
first in Arabic along with their translations in English , and
analysed them in light of Grice’s model of conversation analysis.
Findings indicate that in the Quranic conversations there are
occasions where the maxims of conversation are observed and in
some other cases not observed. This fact attests the universality of Grice’s model.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
