Being Earnes
Many people have not experienced the unique work of art known as a farce. After witnessing
The Importance of Being Earnest, I have determined that a farce and a comedy can be described
as opposite to a certain extent. A farce is ordinary people in a strange situation, while a comedy
is unique people in an ordinary situation. Although not all people may see it this way, this is how
I perceived Oscar Wilde s classic which was clearly very ahead of its time. Richard Robichaux
directed this work of art at the Pavillion Theatre from April 12 23 and focused on several
particular elements/themes which build on each other in order to celebrate the comedic and
historical genius of Wilde s original work. More specifically, the play focuses on the notion of
marriageand its greater role in society, the role of visual objects such as food and how they hold a
much larger importance than they originally seem, and finally the use of puns in order to describe
and envision Victorian society and delve into what the characters are actually... Show more content

One that particularly struck me as quite obvious was the use of earnest/Ernest on multiple
occasions. This pun is quite symbolic because of the fact that it describes Victorian society norms.
Cecily and Gwendolen both aim to marry a man with the name Ernest even though she doesn t quite
understand what the meaning of the word earnest and what it holds in Victorian society. Earnest
means seriousness and respect in this society, but these are not the reasons Gwendolen wants to
marry a man with this name. It turns out that neither man was earnest or had the name Ernest,
although Gwendolen is quick to forgive. Wilde is trying to show the audience that anyone who
describes themselves as Ernest is being deceptive, but at the same time shows that the social norms
of Victorian society are described in the meaning of the

Geoff Rouvray s Golden Jubilee of Ocean Racing. Conditions were perfect. The breeze slightly

enjoying the view is Sydney to Hobart veteran, Geoff Rouvray, better known to his peers as
Roofrack or Roofie, contemplating, 50 years of blue water classics. I don t know how it came
about; I somehow got conned into playing cricket, Geoff recalls. One day I was standing out in the
hot sun when I thought what the hell am I doing here. Geoff desired a much more refreshing and
challenging competition. It all started after getting involved with the sea scouts at Bayview. Sailing

King V Burwell Case Summary
King v. Burwell (2015) is a Supreme Court case involving two parties, the petitioner David King
and the respondent Sylvia Mathews Burwell the Secretary of Health and Human Services. In a
brief background of the case according to Oyez, Congress passed the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act in 2010 to increase the number of Americans covered by health insurance and
lower health care costs. ACA requires each state to establish an exchange in which people can
purchase health care; and if a state chooses not to do so, the federal government establishes one
through the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Another condition made by the ACA requires
people to have to obtain the minimum essential coverage or pay a tax penalty unless it... Show more

On the same day that the Fourth Circuit issued its decision, a three judge panel of the United States
Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, in Halbig v. Burwell (2015), reached the
opposite conclusion, finding 2 1 that the ACA unambiguously restricts the...subsidy to insurance
purchased on Exchanges established by the State. The D.C. Circuit s decision, however, was
vacated when that court agreed to hold an en banc hearing of the case before all judges of the
court in December. Meanwhile, the appellants in King v. Burwell (2015), having decided not to
seek an en banc hearing, filed a writ of certiorari or petition for review with the United States
Supreme Court, which was granted on November 7, 2014, despite the fact that there was
technically no disagreement between the two appellate courts on the central

Class Struggle
Introduction Class struggle is the active expression of a theoretical class conflict looked at from
any kind of socialist perspective. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, leading ideologists of
communism, wrote The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle .
Marx s notion of class has nothing to do with social class in the sociological sense of upper,
middle and lower classes (which are often defined in terms of quantitative income or wealth).
Instead, in an age of capitalism, Marx describes an economic class. Membership in a class is
defined by one s relationship to the means of production, i.e., one s position in the social structure
that characterizes capitalism. Marx talks mainly about two classes that... Show more content on

the floods! This dimension of Bangladesh s reality is much more presentable and in tune with
what the viewer wants to see. In addition, floods or monsoons are a lot easier to explain away as
inevitable than are riots or strikes. For the bourgeoisie, what would be the point in shaking the
dominant image of a country made of too much water and too many poor people ? However, it
is not possible to completely black out the existence of class struggle and some information gets
through. The following is a resume of news clips from various newspapers in December 1994:
On December 4th 1994 thousands of poorly paid and poorly equipped police officers, auxiliary
militiamen (Ansars) mutinied, taking over two barracks, 22 officers hostage and managing to
take control of the headquarters and training centre in the capital, Dacca. After 4 days, by which
time the mutiny had spread to other provinces, repression began in earnest. The army s special
forces attacked the occupies barracks, using very significant measures: artillery guns, rockets,
helicopters, gas, armored cars... with an official toll of 4 deaths and 50 wounded. The first
ideological image is therefore shattered: there are more than just disarmed, ragged, soaking wet
beggars in Bangladesh! A different technique is now needed to explain events and, this time, the
media choose to fall back on the traditional explanation of struggle between official and opposition
parties. Indeed, the mutiny in December 1994 in

Southern Renaissance Influence
The Southern Renaissance was a time during the 1920s and 1930s where there was a change in
southern literature. Even though most of the Southern Renaissance took place during the 1920s
and 30s it was still affected by WWII. The Southern Renaissance is important because it saw a
bunch of new southern writers and affected southern literature. People say that the Southern
renaissance ended before WWII but it actually continued after WWII and was Affected by it.
One example of how WWII had an effect on the Southern Renaissance is ...the coming of the
second World War and its aftermath not only confirmed those changes but it created a modern
day south that in numerous respects seemed to bear little relationship to the community in
which the leading writers of the Southern Renaissance had been born a half century or so earlier
(Rubin 463). This quote shows what the second world war did to the south. The Southern
Renaissance and WWII also had effects on segregation and black novelists. One example of the
effect the renaissance had on segregation is the period in which it emerged saw the south
decidedly on the defensive in its efforts to stave off challenges to segregation (Abadie 14). A
good example of how the renaissance affected black novelists is the depression in the 1930s and
World War II in the 1940s are central events in American social history. Yet southern black novels
during these two decades rarely do more than hint at the effects either event had on the lives of

Personally the turbocharging option is the way which would work better in my opinion TMD

Turbo technics technology offer a Hybrid Turbo for the Land rover Defender 2200cc engine
which produces more torque over a wider range compared to the original turbo unit the power

The 2200cc puma engine is a good four cylinder engine which offers a good torque output and

the TD5 is not as responsive personally as the TDCI 4 Cylinder Puma engine.

Introduction
The retail company which has been selected is Next, due to the long successful leadership skills
from CEO Simon Wolfson. This essay is going to look at how Simon has managed to keep Next
running and how he successfully leads his management team.
Looking at the history of Next it is seen that the previous CEO David Jones saw potential in
Simon, from when he was working for them as a buyer back in the early nineties, helping them to
rebuild their shares as they had fallen to around ten pence. Simon has also been on the board since
1997 helping to plan of the company putting it together.
How Simon has managed to take over from David Jones and how has he kept the business running
successfully.
Simon Wolfson was appointed the role Chief Executive Officerin 2001, the role was passed down
from David Jones who was the previous Chief Executive Officer from 1988. It mentions in a report
from the Telegraph (20th May 2001) it helped even more that Jones spotted his talents early on and
promoted him into ever more senior, precarious positions. If Wolfson s promotion had been blind
nepotism, the whole company would have suffered the consequences by now. Instead it has
flourished. The quote mentions the fact that if Simon didn t take over the business it may not have

Character Analysis Of All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front is a 1929 novel written by Erich Remarque. All Quiet on the
Western Front mainly focusses on a few main characters: Paul Bäumer is a German soldier
fighting down in the trenches during World War I. He is also the main character and narrator of
the novel. Stanislaus Katczinsky is Paul s best friend in the army and is known as Kat . The novel
begins with Paul and his friends going to war. After only two weeks of fighting, there are only 80
out of the 150 men still alive.
As the main character and the narrator, Paul is the centre figure in the novel. Through the novel,
his personality is different to how he normally would be because of the way the war forces him to
behave. Before the war, Paul was a very different person to how he is during the war. Before the
war, Paul was a caring and sensitive man. He loved his family and would also write poetry. But
now, like many of the other soldiers, he quickly learns to turn off his mind and to hide his
feelings. He keeps his emotions hidden to keep his sanity and to survive. He is no longer able to
mourn the dead.
Paul joined the war as a young man of only nineteen years old after some intensive urging from
the schoolmaster Kantorek. Paul and many of his friends from school signed up to the army
voluntarily after they listened to the inspiring speeches that was made by their teacher, Kantorek.
Kantorek was a fiercely patriotic man and he convinced many of Paul s friends to enlist to prove

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Diagnostic Imaging
INTRODUCTION
Modern medicine has undergone major advancements over the past years. One of these
developments include the capacity to retrieve crucial information about the human body and its
health beyond the use of manual diagnostic techniques. This is referred to as Medical or Diagnostic
Imaging.
Medical or Diagnostic Imaging refers to the various techniques that can be used to see inside the
human body. Its non invasive nature means that the body does not have to be opened up surgically
for medical practitioners to view the organs anatomically. In clinical settings, it can be used to aid
in the diagnosis or treatment of different ailments. Many kinds of medical imaging techniques have
already been developed, each with their own advantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Early diagnosis provided by its sophisticated technology saves countless patient lives, and without
its help, we wouldn t have been able to develop cures or treatments for many diseases. Its ability to
monitor subtle changes in patients that would otherwise be missed by unassisted human eyes is
also a hallmark of modern clinical practice.
The radiograph, one of the most common diagnostic imaging tools utilized in this field, possesses a
very important component called contrast. Contrast helps radiologists perceive image detail and
glean information from the area of interest. Radiation Technologists, or Rad Techs, should always
ensure that radiographs have the right amount of contrast so that the radiologist can easily read
them for faster diagnosis.
In terms of education, enormous equipment and expensive yet high quality machines have always
surrounded the College of Medical Radiation Technology (or CMRT). However, it is not just about
the cost but also about their effectiveness and usefulness for the CMRT students. With these
machines, students get to have hands on activities that prepare them for when they take their
internship in hospitals and as future health

Affirmative Action Analysis
Affirmative Action: Overview A reflection on the society depicts the fact that it is composed of
individuals with varying differences aligned with gender, race, socio economic status, and
education levels. While it is true that all people should be equal irrespective of these factors, there
is a need to note that there exist a persistent discriminationof various people. Affirmative actionhas
often been poised as the most comprehensive means through which equality can be attained. While
much has been hypothesized regarding affirmative action, it is of the essence to note that it mainly
connotes to actions and policies that are intended to ensure equality for all people regardless of the
differences they exhibit (Bridges 73). Affirmative action is established with the sole intent of
assuring equal opportunities for all. From this analysis, it can be deduced that the scope of
affirmative action is to assure equality between minority and majority groups. There are various
strategies that are often utilized to enhance the affirmative action.... Show more content on

Based on a personal thought, affirmative action would be more beneficial if it based on class and
not race. Class based affirmative action offers a comprehensive platform that assures an
enhancement in the representation of the minorities. Class based affirmative action favors
individuals from low income backgrounds, which ends up favoring the minority groups (Berry
Bonilla Silva 237). An analysis of racial minority groups points to the fact that they have lower
economic statuses. Therefore, class based affirmative action caters for low income groups who
mainly comprise of the racial minority groups. Overall, class based affirmative action is
recommendable because it caters for both racial and class based

Compare And Contrast Krystyna Chiger And Laavel Freedman
World War 2 was a dark time, especially for Jewish people who were forced to live in a Ghetto
by Germany. Two of these extraordinary people were Krystyna Chiger and Pavel Freedman.
WWII lasted from 1939 to 1945. The Chigers in 1942 escaped to the sewers when her family
heard that the Nazis were going to exterminate everyone in the Ghetto. Pavel escaped a very
different way, he was killed in a concentration camp. They were similar and different in many
ways. The two stories are very alike in many ways. One similarity is they both never lost hope in
tough times. When Pavel was in the ghetto he continued to write poems even though he was
starving and in terrible living conditions. Krystyna also never lost hope in the horrid conditions in

The Position Of Chief Executive
The position of Chief Executive in a company is one of the most desirable positions any given
company has to offer. Chief Executives in a company are at the top of the company ladder.
They receive excellent pay, and great benefits. In the social realm, CEO s are generally
considered to be socially superior, and their lives are coveted by members of the middle class.
The opportunity to become a Chief Executive is rare, and the process of achieving this position
is very difficult. One must be employed with an enterprise and perform exceptionally in order to
climb the company ladder and work their way towards this coveted and desirable position.
While business degrees are not always a requirement for a CEO, they certainly do play a huge
role in determining your eligibility to be in this position. Companies will desire business related
degrees in their applicants, and the first step to becoming a CEO is becoming a lower wage
worker at the company you wish to move up in. There are some degrees that will be especially
useful for the long term goal of obtaining the position of CEO in a company, but before covering
requirements and strategies, let s look at a basic job description of the Chief Executive position.
A Chief Executive has one responsibility; to do everything necessary to ensure the success of a
company. There is no explicit checklist of things a CEO is expected to do, they must attend to
whatever comes up and address issues in order that everything can work

Kanye West Fans s Influence On The Artist

Design Elements And Principles Of Art
This simple but intricate piece of art can be found on the walls of the second floor in the CFA.
Although the fan is fairly small and often times over looked, when examined, its fine detail gives it
character. This paper will address all aspects of design elements and principles. In addition provide
information about the artist and how their background influenced the art, and choice of design.
Line, Dimension, and Quality
The first thing that can be noticed about this piece of art work is the accordion (the span of a fan
when completely unfolded). Most hand held fans are known to have the opening with of at the
most 180 degrees, with some form of fabric or string holding each leaf (the individual slices of a
fan) together. However what made this fan different from other generic fans is that it was folded.
This implies that the artist spent time folding the paper back and forth with delicacy and focus.
The folds also tell me about dimension. Even though the fan was stretched out it was clear that
the fan folded where the creases were. I could tell that the hinges (where two leaves meet) are not
very far apart, which means if the fan was to be closed, it would be very thick.
Ironically the image painted on the fan, and the fan as a whole has some characteristic that would
fall into one of the four categories of shape. The most prominent would be natural and no objective.
The artist clearly communicates the scenery of nature.
The scenery illustrated on the fan is a great

The Red Dress And The Lesson Summary
Dissatisfaction with Societal Roles in The Red Dress and The Lesson The two short stories, The
Red Dress and The Lesson, explore assigned roles in society and in the world. People cannot
determine the family they are born into and the labels that come from that. In both of the stories,
the protagonists are living in unhappy situations. Both girls are navigating a maze of anger and
insecurity, and they do not understand why. In The Lesson one girl deals with the societal
problem of poverty. She is dealing with society and her position on the economic ladder where
choices seem limited. In contrast, the girl in The Red Dress, deals with what seems like the smaller
issue of having insecurity in high school. She deals with her position... Show more content on

The protagonist says that I felt the acute phase of my unhappiness passing, she compares Mary

Assess Sociological Explanations Of The Benefits Of Social...
All of a sudden, I found myself thinking sociologically when I started wondering about how get
payed differently. As a society we have set up many barriers around people that makes them feel
that they have very little that they can do. We have divided society into social classes that
arranged from the upper class to the middle class then lower class. These classes that are set
make some people feel like they are at a disadvantage when it comes to many things. After having
a long thought about this I think that removing the social classes will be very beneficial to many
people. Some the rich people will say that they like how it is now because they are getting lots of
benefits from the social classes and that it s not their fault they have more than others.
The social classes have been a part of history for a very long time. When we look back into
history we see that the social classes has been around for more than 5,000 years. It changes but it
never goes away. I think that taking it away will open up more chances for people who are not

The Colonists Actions And British Government s Responses
3. The Colonists Actions and British Government s Responses 1760s 1770s The imposition of
taxes on the American Colonies by the British Government in the 1760s set in motion a series of
action and reaction that led to a break between the components of the British Empire. Americans
responded with much anger and public resistance to the Stamp Act in 1763. Much of this
resistance was expressed in the colonies of Massachusetts and Virginia. In Massachusetts, the
mobs not only threatened violence, but damaged and at times destroyed the property of officials
who were involved in the Stamp Act s implementation. Virginia on the other hand took legislative
action denouncing the imposition of taxes on the Colonies by Parliament. It was Virginia s
example that was followed nine of her sister colonies when their legislatures made similar
resolutions. These actions also lled to the formation of the Stamp Act Congress in October 1765
(Middlekauff, 2005). This Stamp Act Congress sent an appeal to Parliament and the King
requesting the repeal of the Stamp Act with the justification that the costs associated with the act
would prevent the colonies from purchasing British goods (Brown Carp, 2014). Conflict over the
Stamp Act caused great discord in Parliament over how to deal with the colonies. It also caused
British merchants to appeal to Parliament because of their lost revenue from colonial boycotts. The
efforts to effect a repeal of the Stamp Act was aided by the dismissal of

Arabic Rituals and Traditions During Pregnancy

Children are dearly loved (Durham 2014, p. 403), and large families are common. It is
important that the parents are not left childless and that the family name is carried on therefore
it is important to have more than one child. Sons are highly favorable because they provide
economic security, political strength, and endure social prestige (Kridli, 2002). If the first
pregnancy in a family results in a girl, the desire to try again is high, if this child is a girl, they
typically continue to try until they get a boy. If the first child is a boy, sometimes they will only
have one (Kridli, 2002). Kridli says that there are three main pressures to have children in the
Arabic culture, they include: 1. Traditional required for help and work in the fields and
caregivers for elderly parents, 2. Familial pressure to have kids to be able to preserve the family
name, 3. Religious desire to be fruitful and the belief in God and his powers to care for any
child that is conceived (2002). Children and family are so important in this culture that family
planning is only acceptable to space out children, it is not to be used to limit the size of a family.
The practice of sterilization is not used unless the mother is in poor health and it would
compromise subsequent pregnancies. Because family planning is not acceptable, knowledge on
proper use of contraceptives is unknown to many Arabic people. Arab Americans are more
accepting of contraceptives but need the education on options and importance of correct use
(Kridli 2002). Finding out the sex of the unborn child is believed to cause the evil eye. No one
knows what is in the womb but God (Kridli, 2002), he could potentially change the sex at any time
throughout the pregnancy.

confirmed wife until she has a baby (Kridli, 2002). Pregnancy in the Arabic culture is believed to be

Battle Of San Jacinto Case Study
Strategic Setting Depending on the perspective, the strategic factors of the Battle of San Jacinto
were either to re align Texas with the Mexican government, as it had pulled away in rebellion due
to Anglo interference from the U.S. (Pedro, 1921). A second perspective of the strategic factor of
the Battle of San Jacinto had to do with Texans, in particular Anglo Texans from the Southern U.S.,
wanting to extend the influence of slavery over the region, intentionally flaunting and ignoring
Mexicos anti slavery polices (Tindall and Shi, 2013). A third perspective, offered by Anderson and
Wooster (2016) is that strategically the Battle of San Jacinto was the result of tyrannical oversight
and behaviors by Santa Anna and the Mexican government over Texas. It should be noted that the

of society. In the United States and all around the world, money plays a powerful role in the lives of
many. Nevertheless, money comes in many different forms: the European euro, the Indian rupee,
the Chinese yuan, the Swiss franc, and the list continues on. Of course, in America, the United
States dollaris most often used. As a major form of currency, the United States dollar can be used
to purchase nearly anything as long as the buyer has enough of it. Ever since 1862, greenbacks
have been used as legal tender in this country ( From the Colonies ), but coins have been officially
part of the country s monetary system since the Coinage Act... Show more content on

Canada is an easy country to relate to because it borders America and has a similar currency
system in place. In Canada, each penny cost 1.6 cents to produce, which is very similar to
America s situation (Canada). However, in 2012, Canada decided to stop their production of their
penny because they were losing too much money on a coin that only few use anymore (Sommer).
In fact, Canada reports that they lost 11 million Canadian dollars each year due to its production
(Canada). To adjust to this sudden change, Canada looked at the plans of other countries who have
also gotten rid of currency that cost too much to produce, like Sweden and New Zealand

Roma Stereotypes
While reading and listening to the interview I learned a ton form Isabel Fonseca. I always knew
there was a stereotype placed on the Roma/gypsy societies, I had no clue how segregated they
still are today. The Roma people are treated very poorly in the majority of Europe, because they
are uneducated and different. But by segregating the Roma and not allowing them in our schools
they wont ever be able to better them self s and blend better into society. Roma society s deal with
stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination which I am going to discuss in this paper. First the
Roma society s deal with people stereotyping them into one lump. People see them as uneducated,
but partially we are to blame because we wont allow them to merge into our society. Due to them
being uneducated they live in poverty. Gypsies are stereotyped as being poor, due to this we treat
them poorly regardless if we know if they are poor or not. Last we also treat them differently and
define them by the way they dress. But by us stereotyping them we are taking away their
opportunities to better themselves. Second the Roma society s deal with prejudice everyday. For
example, in the interview and article that we read there was a story about a camp of Roma s in...

judges for the way they choose to live. Gypsies live in close proximity with one another. They

to separate schools and most don t even attend. The only country that is trying to help integrate the
Roma society into their own is in Romania. In Romania they are allowing and encouraging parents
to send their children to the local school, by offering shoes and a hot lunch a day. In Romania they

Personal Statement And Why I Want To Be A Phharmacist
My desire to help people is a major factor in my decision to become a pharmacist. I have aspired

dream. I have done an adequate amount of research on my own also to know what pharmacists
have to do and if I would like being a pharmacist. Very soon I will be contacting a pharmacist to
set up a time to job shadow them. Doing this I will have an idea of what I could be doing every

that is what pharmacists do as well as additional significant tasks. They are also very organized
people, as am I. That is why I would treasure being a pharmacist and truly love the job. I have
worked exceptionally hard in my classes to maintain my exceptional grades and GPA. I have
completed additional activities such as going to pharmacy camp to learn what a pharmacist does.
I have also done ample research to know if I will like the job and what I have to do to achieve this

money to return their son safely. The authorities identified four male suspects and called me into

Harvest Asparagus Research Paper
How to harvest asparagus
Title: Harvesting and Storing Asparagus
Meta description: When your spring crop of asparagus is finally ready for picking, do you know
what to do? Find out about harvesting asparagus and storing it to last.
Asparagus spears are ready for picking from early spring through the end of June. Start picking the
spears in the third year after planting crowns, but let them grow in the first and second years,
because the ferns provide energy to the developing root system.

Preserving Asparagus
Asparagus can be pickled and stored for up to one year. To pickle one pound (450 mg) of asparagus:
Cut spears into lengths 1 inch (2.5cm) shorter than the depth of the canning jar.
Mix the spears with 1/3 cup (80 milliliters) of salt, set aside for 2 hours, then rinse and dry.
Sterilize the canning jars in boiling water for 10 minutes.
Heat white vinegar, a dash of sugar, dill seed, and mustard seeds in a sauce pan, boiling for one
minute.
Place the asparagus shoots into the jar, tips upward. Pour the hot vinegar mix over the asparagus
to approximately 1/3 of an inch (.8cm) below the rim, and seal with a canning jar lid and band.
Process the jars in a water bath, boiling them for 10 minutes. After cooling the jars, check the seal
by pressing the center and making sure it does not move. Put unsealed jars in the refrigerator and
eat them within 14 days.
You can also preserve asparagus by blanching it for about 3 minutes and storing it in freezer bags

Sandy Hook Massacre Sociological Perspective
The Sandy Hook massacre also, described as one of the deadliest shooting in all U.S history. 20
children and 6 adults were killed on December of 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut. (Connecticut)
This massacre was the earliest memory I could recall on gun violence, not just learning about it
but also watching it unfold and be told on news outlets all over television and social media. The
Sandy Hook massacre shaped my generation by creating a more debatable topic on guncontrol in
the United States. Through the Sociological point of view, gun violence can be understood by the
functionalism, conflict, and symbolic theoretical approach. While trying to understand such event
with such theories, we begin to unfold how society has shifted and changed over time, how we as
a society view gun violence today and what we have done to prevent such act to happen again.
When looking at the functionalist point of view, which states that everything serves as a particular
capacity in our general public and the capacities should be comprehended. (Ferrante, 2015) Which
relates to the gun control that one needs to view how strict gun policy laws and free weaponcontrol
laws will influence society.
The U.S. would be viewed as a nation that has free weapon control laws. Most U.S citizen s can
go to a gun shop, do a personal investigation and leave with a gun. The free gun control laws work

Cultural Pluralism Course At The Harvard Implicit...
The first assignment in our Cultural Pluralism course was to take part in several individual
studies as part of the Harvard Implicit Association Test (IAT). Each of the studies measures a
person s attitudes and beliefs that they may not be willing or unable to express and to write about
our experience. For some individuals, taking these types of tests would be possibly a little
unsettling. As for myself, I was very sure that I had a strong understanding of who I am and what I
believe, so I thoughtthe results would not be very surprising. Since bias can occur at any phase of
research, including data collection I allowed the program to randomly choose three individual
studies so I could avoid the issue of potential bias by selecting only the ones that I had a personal
interest in. Allowing the program to choose would also ensure that I would get my true results
regarding how I really looked at issues because I wouldn t have any way of knowing how I
would answer the questions prior to the study. The first study measured my automatic association
of the concepts female and males with the concepts of lead and support. The data suggested that I
had a strong automatic association of Male with lead and female with support. No surprise there
since I have always association lead or leadership with the males in my life such as my father and
husband. They were the strong ones, who directed the family in all matters of importance. My
father was the head of the household and

Dividend Policy at Fpl Group, Inc.
Question 1
We believe that Ms Stark should not revise her recommendation regarding FPL. The HOLD
recommendation seems to be the most appropriate. Our judgement assumes a dividend cut from
FPL. However, this dividend cut would be a precise strategic choice rather than one dictated by
financing difficulties. Specifically, the dividend cut will raise future growth, with little effect on the
stock price.
By cutting dividends, FPL can react better to future threats. After an initial panic selling triggered
by the news shock (FPL never cut its dividend in the past 47 years), investors will process the new
information realized that the dividend cut is balanced by an increased growth rate in the future. To

Indeed, FPL s management may see this as an opportunity to gain more share in the Industrial and
Commercial segments, making it a positive change, at least in the short term.
In order to access this opportunity however, FPL would need to address its prices and costs. Exhibit
7 shows FPL to have low some of the highest rates (per KWH) in the industry for every market
segment. These high prices are unlikely to win many new customers if retail wheeling is
introduced. Unfortunately for FPL, they also have some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the
industry, which means any reduction in prices will only see margin compression and lower their
profitability further.
Lowering costs will be difficult for FPL. Since James Broadhead took over as CEO his focus on
cost reduction and quality maintenance have led FPL to achieve record results. However it may
be that all the costs which can be removed from the system have already been removed. And yet,
FPL still has some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the industry.
Finally, while it is not mentioned in the case, it may be that FPL could use the rise of retail
wheeling to expand its market outside of Florida itself. With low projections of capital expenditure
anticipated for the following years, and an ensuing dividend cut, FPL could choose to invest
significantly in increasing capacity so as to be ready to

Serial Killers Modus Operandi A plethora of serial killers, dead and undead, have been most

Strategic Growth Is A Viable Characteristic For Any...
Strategic growth is a viable characteristic for any organization. Convergence Consulting Group
exemplifies this reasoning. Over the past decade, year over year growth has become the norm for
Convergence. Competing in the ever maturing market of business intelligence consulting,
Convergence must think strategically about how to maintain their growth.
Currently, Convergence is experiencing stagnant growth, which is attributable to the paradigm shift
in how organizations gather and analyze enterprise data. The days of building on premise data
warehouses are giving away to cloud based offerings. While still in the early stages, business
intelligence (BI) within the cloud is becoming ever so popular with organizations around the globe.
Based on this premise, Convergence must implement a strategic initiative to expand their expertise

Odysseus and Dante
The two stories or myths, The Inferno written by Durante Alighieri published in 1314 and the
Odyssey by Homer in 800 B.C.E. are about true love, great journeys that are different but in some
ways parallel and end with them back with their true love. Both Dante and Odysseus have a woman
who waits for them and in their travels must search themselves and make the right choices to get
back to them. Odysseuslongs to be with his wife Penelope and Dante to be with the woman he
wants to marry Beatrice. Both men are very much love the woman in their lives, go to their own hell
and back and can think of nothing other than finding their way back to them. Beatrice even after
death has a spirit that is very much in love with Dante. She has faith in... Show more content on

There are at least three rings in the seventh circle of hell, guarded by centaurs. Here people spend
eternity as trees because they did not appreciate the bodies they were given. The first ring is
where people who were violent to other people spend eternity in a pool of boiling blood, the
second is where the suicides go, and further down those that were violent toward God. In the eighth
circle there are pouches each with different punishments according to the level of scandals and lies
they were involved in (Inferno). There is more to this journey before Dante can return to his
beloved. Calypso keeps Odysseus prisoner because she loves him and wants to keep him for
herself. Odysseus had spent seven years with Calypso withdrawing into the cavern s deep
recesses, long in each other s arms . . . [losing themselves] in love (V.250 251) (Howell, E. N.,
amp; Fink, L. S., R.W.T., 2012). Odysseus wants nothing more than to get back home to his home
and wife. He wants to leave her island Ogygia but has no ship. Finally, after Zeus sends Hermes to
rescue him, he convinces her to let Odysseus build a ship and lets him leave.
Then Poseidon God of the sea, who is mad at Odysseus for blinding his son the Cyclops
Polyphemus, sends a wind to blow them off course (Homer, 800 B.C.E.). As Dante s journey
continues, Virgil guides him through the ninth circle of hell where they find Satan frozen up to the

Street Team Marketing Research Paper
Street team marketing is a form of guerilla marketing that is used to raise awareness of your
music among your target fans. Street teams were heavily used by hip hop labels to promote their
albums. Labels hired reps to hang up poster and flyers to let people in the street know about their
new releases. Today, many people find out about new music online from their peers. You can adapt
this old school tactic of street team marketingto form your own digital street team. A digital street
team can help you spark conversations about your music and generate a buzz. Here are some tips
to help you build your own digital street team:
1.Find people with influence Your digital street team members function as your endorsers and must
have a strong influence among your target audience. Having a strong influence is not just having a
large amount of followers on social media. An influencer has a large following and the power to
sway people s thoughts and actions. Find tastemakers who have strong influence, who have access
to your target fans, and can persuade people to listen to your music.
2.Ask your supporters to join your team Your best brand advocates are people who believe in you
and love your music. Ask your family, friends, and of course your fans to be a part of your digital
street team. These people already support you and would be willing to ... Show more content on

Invite your fans on your mailing list first Your fans on your mailing list have more vested
interest in you than your social media followers. They signed up for your mailing list because
they want to stay updated on what you are doing and personally hear from you on a consistent
basis. Send an email to your mailing list asking them to join your digital street team. Once you
have given everyone on your mailing list a chance to join your team, open up your street team to
your social media followers. Ask your social media followers to sign up for your digital street team.
This will help you to build your mailing

Keystone Predation
Topic and Justification
Interactions between organisms and their environment shape how ecosystems function. Research
has shown that some species can occupy a keystone role, providing disproportionately great benefits
to the ecosystem and its inhabitants, highlighting their importance to stability and biodiversity
(Hooper et al., 2005; Hossack et al., 2015). However, keystone predation is still a contentious topic,
especially when asserting that apex predators of most ecosystems provide their own incredible
ecosystem influences (Estes et al., 2011). This study aims to analyze the importance of the tertiary
predator Puma concolor (Mountain Lion), an organism not known for a significant keystone
relationship with Mendocino landscapes. This study will look at predator prey interactions and
frequency, and abiotic dependencies on prey behavior, all within two Mendocino habitats with...

Their presence, and often the mere possibility of it, induces behavioral changes in prey that limit
how much said organisms forage and reproduce. Ultimately, production of this so called landscape
of fear limits prey populations, along with direct predation (William et al., 2014). These types of
indirect effects are also manifested by humans, and have strong behavioral implications for apex
predators. Studies show that mountain lion prefer to perform reproductive behaviors, like
communication and denning, much further from human development than they do more regular
behaviors, like feeding (Wilmers et al., 2013). Human encroachment has a significant behavioral
consequence for these creatures. So, in order to maintain the keystone benefits of an apex predator,
both their populations and home ranges may require often disregarded protections (Hannah,

Sigmund Freud, Women and Child Abuse
Sigmund Freud and His Views
Sigmund Freud has been called the father of psychotherapy. His studies and views on how
personality develops and is affected by different experiences or exposures to stimuli have been
disputed and discussed for over 100 years. This paper will highlight Freud s life and theories as
well as answer two questions. These two questions are; did Freud sexually abuse children and did
Freud have a personal vendetta against women?
Life and Times Sigmund Freud was born in 1856 to a Jewish Family and grew up in Freiberg,
Moravia which is now a part of the Czech Republic. Freud was the eldest of eight children from
his mother and had older half brothers from his father s previous marriage. The family was very
poor, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people believe Freud engaged in sexual abuse of children as a part of his studies. His
studies on the theories of personality are based upon five stages of development in a child from
birth until adulthood. All the theories are centered on specific erogenous zones or particular body
parts that are sensitive to sexual stimulation (Stevenson, 1996). Needs, as noted by Freud, which
need to be met during each of these stages of development are present from the moment of birth. If
the needs are not met or if the needs are overly met, the child will experience frustration or
overindulgence issues (Stevenson, 1996). In addition to the issues of frustration or overindulgence,
should the child become fixated upon a particular stage the methods the child uses to obtain
satisfaction for that stage will affect the child throughout adulthood (Stevenson, 1996). How did
Freud identify these theories? Did Freud sexually assault his young patients? From studies that have
been conducted on Freud s research the findings show that Freud abandoned his seduction theory
when he began to realize that the accounts of sexual abuse by parents were not true. In fact, Freud
noted that these accounts were most probably due to the patient s repressed sexual desires for the

Design And Design Of Design Essay
Design and build is a generic term describing a procurement route in which the main contractor is
appointed to design and construct the works, as opposed to a traditional contract, where theclient
appoints consultants to design the development and then a contractor is appointed to construct
the works. Design and build can appeal to clients as it gives a single point of responsibility for
delivering the entire project. Some clients however consider it is only appropriate for simple
projects, wheredesign quality is not the main consideration. The contractor can either be appointed
to carry out all of the design work, or if the client wishes to have greater influence over the design,
a concept design and outline (or performance)specification can be prepared by a consultants
employed by the client, and then the contractor is appointed to complete the design and carry out
the construction. The contractor may use their own in house designers to design the building, or
they can appoint consultant designers, or the client s designers can be employed by the contractor
to complete the design (either by novation or consultant switch). If the contractor is appointed at the
outset of the project (so that they can contribute to the development of the design from the
beginning), they may be appointed through a two stage process. In the first stage, the contractor is
selected on the basis of a fee, preliminaries, overheads and profit. They then work with the design

Incorporating Personal Responsibility in the College...
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ESSAY
Success in college requires one to identify key aspects of personal responsibility, understand the
relationship between personal responsibility and college success, and establish a specific plan to
follow that will ensure he or she incorporates the various elements of personal responsibility in
every facet of his or her college experience.
The notion of personal responsibility has been embedded in our culture and as we enter into
adulthood we must learn to become personally, academically, financially, socially and mentally
responsible. There are times when you may feel you are responsible and may not need or want
the help of others in your life. However, life is full of challenges and surprises and it is easy to
shift the blame to others if things don t go your way. You must learn to take responsibility by
accepting and acknowledging the choices you make in your live.
You are where you are in life today because of the choice you made. You made decisions that either
benefitted or hindered you. How you accept and acknowledges your personal responsibility depends
on how you handle the outcomes of your decisions. I look at personal responsibility as you
accepting responsibility for your actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions
and understanding that these actions impact the world around you.
Life itself is already full of challenges and once you learn to accept the decisions you made and not
blaming others for your actions,

Arts Is An Institution Of Higher Education
Wesleyan is an institution of higher education, and I would place education at the center of all fine
arts programming.
Many of us are aware of the transformative power of Arts performances and exhibits. I ll call this
arts enrichment. The Arts reach deeply into our unconscious minds and make an imprint beyond
where the written or spoken word can go. The Arts open minds to pluralistic thinking and banish
barriers between various groups within the human race without in your face politics or flag waving
sentimentality. With subtlety of expression, the Arts elevate us to our best selves, and our society
to both its cultural differences and oneness. But many of us know this.
Arts Education (capital E) is a noble pursuit to which I devote much of my life and career. Every
student needs the vocabulary, skills and perceptions gained by studying Art, Culture and the
Humanities. Too many people say, I took piano for a few years, but I quit, or I saw the movie, why
go out on a rainy night to see the play, unaware that music belongs to us all, art belongs to us all,
and a cathartic experience in a darkened theater makes us think, feel and become more human. Art
is as much a way for us to understand ourselves as knowing our history or understanding the laws
of physics. Art is not for artists and talented people, art is for us all, but some students may not see
the relevance of attending an art opening when final exams are looming.
Beyond arts enrichment and Arts Education, is the

Wind Power s Power to Create Electricity Essay
Earth, as of today, is a world run by fuels and electricity. Every man, woman, and child is directly
affect by them, whether it is by its consumption, uses, or price. One of the more recent sources for
these fuels and electricity isn t actually very recent at all. Wind Energy, or Wind Power when it is
being converted into a useful form of energy, has actually been around for thousands of years. It has
been used to push ships, as natural ventilation, and to pump seawater.{Insert thesis Here}

Later, wind energy served mankind by energising his grain grinding mills and water pumps.
During its transformation from these crude and heavy devices to today s efficient and
sophisticated machines, the technology went through various phases of development....The
earliest documented design of wind mill dates back to 200 B.C. The Persians used wind mills
from grinding grains during this period. (Sathyajith Mathew 2) By the 14th Century, Windmills
were being used as tools to drain the Rhine delta by the Dutch. In the 1900s, the massive amount
of windmills in Denmark was producing roughly 30 Megawatts of electricity. That is roughly
enough electricity to power a small to medium sized town. It is also enough to provide power to
any one of these: 8,000 average homes, 400 fast food restaurants, 60 large retail stores, 50 grocery
stores, 40 large home improvement stores, 2 Sears towers, 1 computer data center. The efficiency
of a windmill, or the more modern wind turbine is one of the most critical factors of production.
With some certain wind turbines, the efficiency can and may degrade slightly over time, but the
time it takes for the production value to drop 10% is almost 20 years after the construction of that
turbine, and even with that, not all turbines will degrade at that rate. Also, not all of the energy of
the blowing wind is useable, because as the scientific law of the conservation of mass states that as
much mass that enters the wind turbine must also exit

is a qualitative research initiate mainly aimed at creating current inventions and innovations
around the mobile phone technology along with the real examples of giant business
organizations. These examples also critically involve the evaluation of related mobile data
analysis methodologies and strategies. In the world of information technology, big data has been
considered as the highly advanced feature which is affecting the vital sectors of IT industry and
E Commerce. It is perhaps the only term which is being discussed in recent years in almost every
business field and organization ranging from the online retailers to the presidential campaign
teams in order to transmit or seize the transformative potential of big data for the large scale
positive changes. The research and analyst data have eventually showed that how the rapidly
changing technology has created a reverberation in the vast field of information technology. The
explosion of mobile phone technology is largely contributing to the IP data traffic and in order to
collect, organize and manipulate such large data; big data is rather the best choice because of
several reasons. However the prominent among them are its rapid scalability and

What It Takes With Illegally Cross The U.s. -mexico Border
What it Takes to Illegally Cross the U.S. Mexico Border
It is the human nature to have a need to build a superior future for oneself and one s families. In
cases where people believe that they are not in a decent place and their future by all accounts is in
shambles, they are more willing to take risks and hopefully move to a better point. The same
theory applies to the people who are seeking to illegally enter the U.S. Many of those people have
been disappointed with the failings and shortcomings of their government. In addition, the
expansion of drug cartel in the country and rising violence has people on their knees deep in
poverty without any opportunity to earn and thrive. Thus, they see the neighboring country, the

Hence, some of the women ingest birth control pills before they start the journey anticipating the
worst like rape to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Some women who are not raped, are forced or
expected to give sexual favors to the coyotes as a form of payment for the crossings (218). The
illegal crossing comes as a huge financial burden to attain the dreams of living a better life.
Additionally, people consistently and constantly expect and prepare for the worst case scenarios
and pray that they do not succumb to it. The migrants already recognize that they will be
participating in a lengthy and struggling hike in an unknown territory. However, instead of resting,
their mind will be swamped dreading the unknown. The female migrants suffer from a higher
mental toll and pressure as they worry about sexual abuse or being dumped in a fresh trade
business on top of everything. Therefore, the journey to cross the U.S. border is mentally draining
and distressing to the travelers.
In the same manner, the quest to cross the border is demanding and challenging. On an average
summer, the temperature in the area rises above 120 Fahrenheit and lowers below 42 Fahrenheit
(Androff 165). Because of this extreme temperature and the number of miles that it takes one to
cross the border, it is about impossible to carry enough water to combat dehydration (Debuys 218).

Comparing Camp Rock And High School Musical
With debates among several people concerning which movie was the better one, it s fair to say
that High School Musical is the more popular choice, yet Camp Rock is the most inspirational of
these two. Camp Rock is a demonstration for a younger audience to become aware of being who
they are made to be. It is great to show the younger audience self confidence and faith for
themselves. High School Musical portrays similar messages, but Camp Rock has the better
meaning. There are going to be summaries of these movies in the next few paragraphs. In High
School Musical, a shy girl named Gabriella and Troy, the star basketball player of East High sang
karaoke together at a New Year s Eve party. After the two exchanged numbers, Gabriella became a
new student at East High unexpectedly. While Troy began showing Gabriella around the school,
they stop near the sign up sheet for the new high school production. With interest of signing up for
drama, Gabriella s gaze on the sheet was interrupted by a Sharpay Evans, the Drama Club President.

Soccer Is A Marvelous Sport
Soccer is a marvelous sport. It is a sport that virtually all know about, no matter where they live.
A sport that began long ago and has continued on for decades. Even if it is less popular in some
countries, it still has one of the largest fan bases in the world. As Kress Estime says in her report
on soccer, Soccer is the most widely practiced sport in the world. It is played in over 200
countries and has over 3.5 billion fans around the globe (Estime). Soccer has held this title for a
long time and has yet to lose it. Perhaps there is a reason that soccer has gained the most sizeable
fanbase in the world? The difficult objective is finding out what that exact reason is and why it
has happened. Could it be stereotypical? Could it be the drama that is included in it? Could it
be emotion striking the people down causing them fall victim to the enjoyment that soccer
offers? Could it be the inspiration from those who have played the sport before them? There is
most certainly more than one answer to these questions. The history of soccer also offers a
possible solution to this mystery. Cliff Potter briefly explains soccer s history in his article for
the Bleacher Report. He states, However, the first indications of an early formal form of football
date back 3,000 years to Ancient China. A game played with a ball of animal skins stuffed with
hair or feathers was kicked between poles some 10 metres high and was most likely used for
military training. By 50 A.D., the game

Violate Social Norm
For this social experiment I am required to violate a social norm and observe the reactions I
would get for doing something considered deviant by society s standards. While it is a small norm
to break, I decided that I would try to interrupt people while they are talking as many times during
the day as possible. In our culture, it is typically impolite to constantly interrupt someone when that
person is talking. Doing so may be considered rude and even selfish. Individuals don t purposefully
interrupt others because it is disrespectful. Children are taught to listen, wait their turn, and then say
what they have to say. During the experiment, I will start out with those who are only talking to me.

I was also concerned with the image that it gave me and what people thought about me
afterwards. Because interrupting people while they are talking is disrespectful, it is completely
understandable that people would not appreciate me continually interfering with their
conversation. People did react the way that I expected. Because people often accidentally
interrupt others, I had an idea of how people would generally react. I found it hard to get myself
to interrupt other people. I am so use to waiting for my turn to speak that I felt awkward butting
in. Other than that, I didn t encounter any other difficulties during the experiment. This
experiment has taught me a lot more about social norms and society. I got to see first hand how
social norms work and how much they play a role in everyone s daily lives. I learned how
people react toward people who don t follow the social norms and break them. This experiment
proves that there are such things as social norms that aren t even formally stated and as a society
rules are set as to how one should behave and when broken one is met with reactions and seen as
different and not normal. I went against the rules of society by not conforming hence I was the odd

Winged Victory Of Samothrace Analysis

Hellenistic sculpture of The Greek goddess of victory, Nike. Created in 190 BC by an unknown
artist and constructed with parian marble, it stands at 5.57 meters although the goddess herself
stands only at 2.75 meters. The sculpture was discovered in 1863 on the island of Samothraceon a
French exploration led by amateur archaeologist Charles Champoiseau. In its original setting, the
Nikewas mounted on the prow of a stone ship in a temple, and was assumed to be overlooking the
sanctuary of the great gods on the island of Samothrace. The sculpture has been displayed at the
most distinguished museum in the world, the Louvre, in Paris, since 1884. Even in its current

  • 2. Being Earnes Many people have not experienced the unique work of art known as a farce. After witnessing The Importance of Being Earnest, I have determined that a farce and a comedy can be described as opposite to a certain extent. A farce is ordinary people in a strange situation, while a comedy is unique people in an ordinary situation. Although not all people may see it this way, this is how I perceived Oscar Wilde s classic which was clearly very ahead of its time. Richard Robichaux directed this work of art at the Pavillion Theatre from April 12 23 and focused on several particular elements/themes which build on each other in order to celebrate the comedic and historical genius of Wilde s original work. More specifically, the play focuses on the notion of marriageand its greater role in society, the role of visual objects such as food and how they hold a much larger importance than they originally seem, and finally the use of puns in order to describe and envision Victorian society and delve into what the characters are actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One that particularly struck me as quite obvious was the use of earnest/Ernest on multiple occasions. This pun is quite symbolic because of the fact that it describes Victorian society norms. Cecily and Gwendolen both aim to marry a man with the name Ernest even though she doesn t quite understand what the meaning of the word earnest and what it holds in Victorian society. Earnest means seriousness and respect in this society, but these are not the reasons Gwendolen wants to marry a man with this name. It turns out that neither man was earnest or had the name Ernest, although Gwendolen is quick to forgive. Wilde is trying to show the audience that anyone who describes themselves as Ernest is being deceptive, but at the same time shows that the social norms of Victorian society are described in the meaning of the ... The breeze slightly caresses the water; glistening like a priceless diamond. Not far away sitting under an umbrella enjoying the view is Sydney to Hobart veteran, Geoff Rouvray, better known to his peers as Roofrack or Roofie, contemplating, 50 years of blue water classics. I don t know how it came about; I somehow got conned into playing cricket, Geoff recalls. One day I was standing out in the hot sun when I thought what the hell am I doing here. Geoff desired a much more refreshing and challenging competition. It all started after getting involved with the sea scouts at Bayview. Sailing a 16ft skiff with four mates around Pittwater was great fun. Now, was time to get into competitive racing, joining the Bayview Yacht Racing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The English version of the Hobart race. They arrived and spent four weeks training every day as well as competing in several local races. By the time they started the Adrimal s Cup the boat was tuned to perfection. The crew work was as good as any America s Cup crew. We were leading the point score in the final race, but one yacht broke its rudder and did not finish which pushed the team from 1st to 3rd place. • 4. King V Burwell Case Summary King v. Burwell (2015) is a Supreme Court case involving two parties, the petitioner David King and the respondent Sylvia Mathews Burwell the Secretary of Health and Human Services. In a brief background of the case according to Oyez, Congress passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010 to increase the number of Americans covered by health insurance and lower health care costs. ACA requires each state to establish an exchange in which people can purchase health care; and if a state chooses not to do so, the federal government establishes one through the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Another condition made by the ACA requires people to have to obtain the minimum essential coverage or pay a tax penalty unless it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Circuit s decision, however, was vacated when that court agreed to hold an en banc hearing of the case before all judges of the court in December. Meanwhile, the appellants in King v. • 5. Class Struggle Introduction Class struggle is the active expression of a theoretical class conflict looked at from any kind of socialist perspective. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, leading ideologists of communism, wrote The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle . Marx s notion of class has nothing to do with social class in the sociological sense of upper, middle and lower classes (which are often defined in terms of quantitative income or wealth). Instead, in an age of capitalism, Marx describes an economic class. Membership in a class is defined by one s relationship to the means of production, i.e., one s position in the social structure that characterizes capitalism. Marx talks mainly about two classes that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the floods! This dimension of Bangladesh s reality is much more presentable and in tune with what the viewer wants to see. In addition, floods or monsoons are a lot easier to explain away as inevitable than are riots or strikes. For the bourgeoisie, what would be the point in shaking the dominant image of a country made of too much water and too many poor people ? However, it is not possible to completely black out the existence of class struggle and some information gets through. The following is a resume of news clips from various newspapers in December 1994: On December 4th 1994 thousands of poorly paid and poorly equipped police officers, auxiliary militiamen (Ansars) mutinied, taking over two barracks, 22 officers hostage and managing to take control of the headquarters and training centre in the capital, Dacca. After 4 days, by which time the mutiny had spread to other provinces, repression began in earnest. The army s special forces attacked the occupies barracks, using very significant measures: artillery guns, rockets, helicopters, gas, armored cars... with an official toll of 4 deaths and 50 wounded. The first ideological image is therefore shattered: there are more than just disarmed, ragged, soaking wet beggars in Bangladesh! A different technique is now needed to explain events and, this time, the media choose to fall back on the traditional explanation of struggle between official and opposition parties. Indeed, the mutiny in December 1994 in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Southern Renaissance Influence The Southern Renaissance was a time during the 1920s and 1930s where there was a change in southern literature. Even though most of the Southern Renaissance took place during the 1920s and 30s it was still affected by WWII. The Southern Renaissance is important because it saw a bunch of new southern writers and affected southern literature. People say that the Southern renaissance ended before WWII but it actually continued after WWII and was Affected by it. One example of how WWII had an effect on the Southern Renaissance is ...the coming of the second World War and its aftermath not only confirmed those changes but it created a modern day south that in numerous respects seemed to bear little relationship to the community in which the leading writers of the Southern Renaissance had been born a half century or so earlier (Rubin 463). This quote shows what the second world war did to the south. The Southern Renaissance and WWII also had effects on segregation and black novelists. One example of the effect the renaissance had on segregation is the period in which it emerged saw the south decidedly on the defensive in its efforts to stave off challenges to segregation (Abadie 14). A good example of how the renaissance affected black novelists is the depression in the 1930s and World War II in the 1940s are central events in American social history. Yet southern black novels during these two decades rarely do more than hint at the effects either event had on the lives of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personally the turbocharging option is the way which would work better in my opinion TMD tuning offer a vast range of solutions which may increase indicated power, such as turbocharging options boost modules, etc. . . . Turbo technics technology offer a Hybrid Turbo for the Land rover Defender 2200cc engine which produces more torque over a wider range compared to the original turbo unit the power produced is moderately enhanced, this offers better driveability and gives the engine better responses to which the Defender 90 feels more effective at off roading and handles considerably better with the right setup for the road. The 2200cc puma engine is a good four cylinder engine which offers a good torque output and replaces the TD5 Lump which in comparison seem to have the similar engine output figures, but the TD5 is not as responsive personally as the TDCI 4 Cylinder Puma engine. The parameters which are chosen diameter of the exhaust manifold, diameter of the pipe at the turbine exit, efficiency of the turbocharger, location of the turbo charger and the packaging is also a major ... This essay is going to look at how Simon has managed to keep Next running and how he successfully leads his management team. Looking at the history of Next it is seen that the previous CEO David Jones saw potential in Simon, from when he was working for them as a buyer back in the early nineties, helping them to rebuild their shares as they had fallen to around ten pence. Simon has also been on the board since 1997 helping to plan of the company putting it together. How Simon has managed to take over from David Jones and how has he kept the business running successfully. Simon Wolfson was appointed the role Chief Executive Officerin 2001, the role was passed down from David Jones who was the previous Chief Executive Officer from 1988. It mentions in a report from the Telegraph (20th May 2001) it helped even more that Jones spotted his talents early on and promoted him into ever more senior, precarious positions. All Quiet on the Western Front mainly focusses on a few main characters: Paul BГ¤umer is a German soldier fighting down in the trenches during World War I. He is also the main character and narrator of the novel. Stanislaus Katczinsky is Paul s best friend in the army and is known as Kat . The novel begins with Paul and his friends going to war. Through the novel, his personality is different to how he normally would be because of the way the war forces him to behave. But now, like many of the other soldiers, he quickly learns to turn off his mind and to hide his feelings. He keeps his emotions hidden to keep his sanity and to survive. He is no longer able to mourn the dead. Paul joined the war as a young man of only nineteen years old after some intensive urging from the schoolmaster Kantorek. • 10. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Diagnostic Imaging INTRODUCTION Modern medicine has undergone major advancements over the past years. One of these developments include the capacity to retrieve crucial information about the human body and its health beyond the use of manual diagnostic techniques. This is referred to as Medical or Diagnostic Imaging. Medical or Diagnostic Imaging refers to the various techniques that can be used to see inside the human body. Its non invasive nature means that the body does not have to be opened up surgically for medical practitioners to view the organs anatomically. In clinical settings, it can be used to aid in the diagnosis or treatment of different ailments. Many kinds of medical imaging techniques have already been developed, each with their own advantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early diagnosis provided by its sophisticated technology saves countless patient lives, and without its help, we wouldn t have been able to develop cures or treatments for many diseases. Its ability to monitor subtle changes in patients that would otherwise be missed by unassisted human eyes is also a hallmark of modern clinical practice. The radiograph, one of the most common diagnostic imaging tools utilized in this field, possesses a very important component called contrast. Contrast helps radiologists perceive image detail and glean information from the area of interest. Radiation Technologists, or Rad Techs, should always ensure that radiographs have the right amount of contrast so that the radiologist can easily read them for faster diagnosis. Chief Executives in a company are at the top of the company ladder. They receive excellent pay, and great benefits. In the social realm, CEO s are generally considered to be socially superior, and their lives are coveted by members of the middle class. The opportunity to become a Chief Executive is rare, and the process of achieving this position is very difficult. One must be employed with an enterprise and perform exceptionally in order to climb the company ladder and work their way towards this coveted and desirable position. While business degrees are not always a requirement for a CEO, they certainly do play a huge role in determining your eligibility to be in this position. Companies will desire business related degrees in their applicants, and the first step to becoming a CEO is becoming a lower wage worker at the company you wish to move up in. There are some degrees that will be especially useful for the long term goal of obtaining the position of CEO in a company, but before covering requirements and strategies, let s look at a basic job description of the Chief Executive position. Although the fan is fairly small and often times over looked, when examined, its fine detail gives it character. This paper will address all aspects of design elements and principles. In addition provide information about the artist and how their background influenced the art, and choice of design. Line, Dimension, and Quality The first thing that can be noticed about this piece of art work is the accordion (the span of a fan when completely unfolded). Most hand held fans are known to have the opening with of at the most 180 degrees, with some form of fabric or string holding each leaf (the individual slices of a fan) together. However what made this fan different from other generic fans is that it was folded. This implies that the artist spent time folding the paper back and forth with delicacy and focus. The folds also tell me about dimension. Even though the fan was stretched out it was clear that the fan folded where the creases were. I could tell that the hinges (where two leaves meet) are not very far apart, which means if the fan was to be closed, it would be very thick. Ironically the image painted on the fan, and the fan as a whole has some characteristic that would fall into one of the four categories of shape. The most prominent would be natural and no objective. As a society we have set up many barriers around people that makes them feel that they have very little that they can do. We have divided society into social classes that arranged from the upper class to the middle class then lower class. These classes that are set make some people feel like they are at a disadvantage when it comes to many things. After having a long thought about this I think that removing the social classes will be very beneficial to many people. Some the rich people will say that they like how it is now because they are getting lots of benefits from the social classes and that it s not their fault they have more than others. The social classes have been a part of history for a very long time. When we look back into history we see that the social classes has been around for more than 5,000 years. • 19. The Colonists Actions And British Government s Responses 3. The Colonists Actions and British Government s Responses 1760s 1770s The imposition of taxes on the American Colonies by the British Government in the 1760s set in motion a series of action and reaction that led to a break between the components of the British Empire. Americans responded with much anger and public resistance to the Stamp Act in 1763. Much of this resistance was expressed in the colonies of Massachusetts and Virginia. In Massachusetts, the mobs not only threatened violence, but damaged and at times destroyed the property of officials who were involved in the Stamp Act s implementation. Virginia on the other hand took legislative action denouncing the imposition of taxes on the Colonies by Parliament. It was Virginia s example that was followed nine of her sister colonies when their legislatures made similar resolutions. These actions also lled to the formation of the Stamp Act Congress in October 1765 (Middlekauff, 2005). This Stamp Act Congress sent an appeal to Parliament and the King requesting the repeal of the Stamp Act with the justification that the costs associated with the act would prevent the colonies from purchasing British goods (Brown Carp, 2014). Conflict over the Stamp Act caused great discord in Parliament over how to deal with the colonies. It also caused British merchants to appeal to Parliament because of their lost revenue from colonial boycotts. The efforts to effect a repeal of the Stamp Act was aided by the dismissal of ... Sons are highly favorable because they provide economic security, political strength, and endure social prestige (Kridli, 2002). If the first pregnancy in a family results in a girl, the desire to try again is high, if this child is a girl, they typically continue to try until they get a boy. If the first child is a boy, sometimes they will only have one (Kridli, 2002). Kridli says that there are three main pressures to have children in the Arabic culture, they include: 1. Traditional required for help and work in the fields and caregivers for elderly parents, 2. Familial pressure to have kids to be able to preserve the family name, 3. Religious desire to be fruitful and the belief in God and his powers to care for any child that is conceived (2002). Children and family are so important in this culture that family planning is only acceptable to space out children, it is not to be used to limit the size of a family. The practice of sterilization is not used unless the mother is in poor health and it would compromise subsequent pregnancies. • 33. Cultural Pluralism Course At The Harvard Implicit... The first assignment in our Cultural Pluralism course was to take part in several individual studies as part of the Harvard Implicit Association Test (IAT). Each of the studies measures a person s attitudes and beliefs that they may not be willing or unable to express and to write about our experience. For some individuals, taking these types of tests would be possibly a little unsettling. As for myself, I was very sure that I had a strong understanding of who I am and what I believe, so I thoughtthe results would not be very surprising. Since bias can occur at any phase of research, including data collection I allowed the program to randomly choose three individual studies so I could avoid the issue of potential bias by selecting only the ones that I had a personal interest in. Allowing the program to choose would also ensure that I would get my true results regarding how I really looked at issues because I wouldn t have any way of knowing how I would answer the questions prior to the study. The first study measured my automatic association of the concepts female and males with the concepts of lead and support. The data suggested that I had a strong automatic association of Male with lead and female with support. No surprise there since I have always association lead or leadership with the males in my life such as my father and husband. Our judgement assumes a dividend cut from FPL. However, this dividend cut would be a precise strategic choice rather than one dictated by financing difficulties. Specifically, the dividend cut will raise future growth, with little effect on the stock price. By cutting dividends, FPL can react better to future threats. Indeed, FPL s management may see this as an opportunity to gain more share in the Industrial and Commercial segments, making it a positive change, at least in the short term. In order to access this opportunity however, FPL would need to address its prices and costs. Exhibit 7 shows FPL to have low some of the highest rates (per KWH) in the industry for every market segment. These high prices are unlikely to win many new customers if retail wheeling is introduced. Unfortunately for FPL, they also have some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the industry, which means any reduction in prices will only see margin compression and lower their profitability further. Lowering costs will be difficult for FPL. Since James Broadhead took over as CEO his focus on cost reduction and quality maintenance have led FPL to achieve record results. However it may be that all the costs which can be removed from the system have already been removed. And yet, FPL still has some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the industry. Finally, while it is not mentioned in the case, it may be that FPL could use the rise of retail wheeling to expand its market outside of Florida itself. Her neighbor, Susan Savage noticed cobwebs in her windows and yellowing pile of letters in her mailbox. She reached through a broken window to unlock the door and she reached upstairs, she found Vickers s mummified boy near a heater that was running at that time. Many people believe Freud engaged in sexual abuse of children as a part of his studies. His studies on the theories of personality are based upon five stages of development in a child from birth until adulthood. All the theories are centered on specific erogenous zones or particular body parts that are sensitive to sexual stimulation (Stevenson, 1996). Needs, as noted by Freud, which need to be met during each of these stages of development are present from the moment of birth. If the needs are not met or if the needs are overly met, the child will experience frustration or overindulgence issues (Stevenson, 1996). In addition to the issues of frustration or overindulgence, should the child become fixated upon a particular stage the methods the child uses to obtain satisfaction for that stage will affect the child throughout adulthood (Stevenson, 1996). How did Freud identify these theories? Did Freud sexually assault his young patients? Design And Design Of Design Essay Design and build is a generic term describing a procurement route in which the main contractor is appointed to design and construct the works, as opposed to a traditional contract, where theclient appoints consultants to design the development and then a contractor is appointed to construct the works. Design and build can appeal to clients as it gives a single point of responsibility for delivering the entire project. Some clients however consider it is only appropriate for simple projects, wheredesign quality is not the main consideration. • 53. Soccer Is A Marvelous Sport Soccer is a marvelous sport. It is a sport that virtually all know about, no matter where they live. A sport that began long ago and has continued on for decades. Even if it is less popular in some countries, it still has one of the largest fan bases in the world. As Kress Estime says in her report on soccer, Soccer is the most widely practiced sport in the world. It is played in over 200 countries and has over 3.5 billion fans around the globe (Estime). Soccer has held this title for a long time and has yet to lose it. Perhaps there is a reason that soccer has gained the most sizeable fanbase in the world? The difficult objective is finding out what that exact reason is and why it has happened. Could it be stereotypical? Could it be the drama that is included in it? Could it be emotion striking the people down causing them fall victim to the enjoyment that soccer offers? Could it be the inspiration from those who have played the sport before them? There is most certainly more than one answer to these questions. The history of soccer also offers a possible solution to this mystery. Cliff Potter briefly explains soccer s history in his article for the Bleacher Report. He states, However, the first indications of an early formal form of football date back 3,000 years to Ancient China. A game played with a ball of animal skins stuffed with hair or feathers was kicked between poles some 10 metres high and was most likely used for military training. By 50 A.D., the game ... • 54. Violate Social Norm For this social experiment I am required to violate a social norm and observe the reactions I would get for doing something considered deviant by society s standards. While it is a small norm to break, I decided that I would try to interrupt people while they are talking as many times during the day as possible. In our culture, it is typically impolite to constantly interrupt someone when that person is talking. Doing so may be considered rude and even selfish. Individuals don t purposefully interrupt others because it is disrespectful. Children are taught to listen, wait their turn, and then say what they have to say. During the experiment, I will start out with those who are only talking to me. I plan on interrupting with a semi relevant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was also concerned with the image that it gave me and what people thought about me afterwards. Because interrupting people while they are talking is disrespectful, it is completely understandable that people would not appreciate me continually interfering with their conversation. People did react the way that I expected. Because people often accidentally interrupt others, I had an idea of how people would generally react. I found it hard to get myself to interrupt other people. I am so use to waiting for my turn to speak that I felt awkward butting in. Other than that, I didn t encounter any other difficulties during the experiment. This experiment has taught me a lot more about social norms and society. I got to see first hand how social norms work and how much they play a role in everyone s daily lives. I learned how people react toward people who don t follow the social norms and break them. This experiment proves that there are such things as social norms that aren t even formally stated and as a society rules are set as to how one should behave and when broken one is met with reactions and seen as different and not normal. I went against the rules of society by not conforming hence I was the odd one out. If it weren t for the social norms then I would not have gotten the reactions I did because there wouldn t be anything to conform ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
