Pacific Lamprey Essay
The Pacific Lamprey (Entosphenus tridentatus) is an anadromous species that is found along the
west coast of North America, primarily along the coast of Washington, Oregon, and northern
California. E. tridentatus is a semelparous species that can live up to five years and can spend up
to three and a half years in saltwater. They begin metamorphosis in July and the known period of
entry into salt water is from December until June. In the ocean E. tridentatus have been documented
to primarily feed on Pacific Salmonspecies such as Chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), Coho
(Oncorhynchus kisutch), Sockeye (Oncorhynchus nerka), and Pink (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha). O.
tshawytscha have endured most lamprey attacks because researchers believe that E. tridentatus
attack this salmon when it is making the transition to swim back up stream to spawn. E. tridentatus
who do not represent an anadromous life style also prey heavily on resident salmonid species.
Salmonid species have an important role in the diet and life history of E. tridentatus as they are an
important prey item.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
tridentatus is known as an opportunistic predator as it tries to exert as little energy as possible in
order to obtain an easy meal. However, we do not know for sure if E. tridentatus preferred
salmonid of choice is in fact O. tshawytscha. Observations from past studies have shown that O.
tshawytscha is preyed upon more than other fish species. When it is compared against another
salmonid species, such as a O. kisutch, there is slight difference between them due to availability
and environmental conditions that might prevent E. tridentatus to prey upon certain species. The
question remains if E. tridentatus was placed inside a control environment with several salmonid
species that all have an equal chance of predation, would it still prefer a certain species or would it
still exhibit an opportunistic feeding

The Legend of King Arthur Essay
By the ninth century people all over were telling the fabulous tales and romances about Arthur and
his kingdom. The common people heard them sung by bards, while in the court poets wrote
different versions. In each retelling the speaker would select certain details for emphasis and
introduce new elements, so that the story could be adapted to the particular time and audience.
Although most historians believe that there actually did exist an Arthur, they differ on how major
his role was on influencing society during his time.
To understand the most widely accepted view on when and how Arthur gained fame, one must be
aware of the historical time period surrounding Arthur.
The unity that the Roman government imposed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The passage then continues describing the twelve battles that Arthur fought and won. The last
battle, the greatest in the history of the country, was at Badon Hill. It resulted in a total massacre of
the Saxons, establishing fifty years of peace from the Saxon s horrible brutality of slaughtering,
burning and senseless vandalism (Jenkins 30 31).
Nennius s historical account is backed up by a set of Easter Tables.
They were calculating tables as to when Easter would fall out for the next given number of years
and in them were noted events of outstanding importance. In the annals were two dates regarding
Arthur. The first date is disputed: It is put as either 499 or 518 A.D. The first entry reads: ?Battle
of Badon, in which
Arthur carried the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ on his shoulders for three days and three nights
and the Britons were victors (Jenkins 28).?
The second entry dated 539 reads: The Battle of Camlann, in which Arthur and Modred perished.
And there was plague in Britain and Ireland (Jenkins 28).?
These accounts of Arthur are not only the basis for his fame, but they also show us the broad terrain
of Arthur s military activity. While the Battle of Mount Badon was fought in Southern England, the
battle of Cat Coit Celidon, mentioned in the Historia Brittonum, was fought in Scotland. The

The Importance Of Cellular And Cellular Signals Regulating...
After thickening of chamber walls during cardiac embryogenesis, oxygen and nutrients can no
longer be passively diffused into cardiac cells, therefore, a primitive vascular develops to supply
these vital resources. The plexus then further matures into coronary arteries and veins which
ensures continued development of the heart. However, the vasculogenesis of these coronary blood
vessels is not fully understood and has been a topic of intense research and debate. Over time,
various models have been proposed, indicating the importance of cellular and molecular signals
regulating vascularization of the embryonic heart. Interestingly, research has highlighted the
contribution of extra cardiac cells which migrates and differentiates in the heart.
Keywords: Vasculogenesis, angiogenesis, embryogenesis, VEGF, anatomical variations.
Introduction Much of what is known about the origin of cells that make up the coronary vascular
network comes from immuno histochemical analyses, quail chick chimera experiments, retroviral
labelling, gene targeting experiments and, more recently, lineage tracing studies. Interestingly, not a
single cell that makes up the coronary system of the heart arises from the heart. All of this happens
without ever tapping into the blood that courses through the primitive heart tube (Mu et al., 2005;
David et al., 2002). Within the past two decades much progress has been made into elucidating the
molecular principles initiating and regulating coronary vessel

Comparing Griswold Vs. Connecticut
Griswold vs Connecticut
Madison Hayworth
Clovis Community College
November 25, 2015
Often times in today s world we take certain luxuries for granted. The right to vote, the right of free
speech, etc. But one of those luxuries that people often don t consider is the right for women to use
birth control. The Supreme Court case that argued for the use of contraceptives was Griswold vs
Connecticut. The court case was argued March 29th 30th 1965, but was not decided until June 7th
1965. The case was on the debate of whether or not the use of contraceptives should be legalized.
Griswold, the Executive and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, was
on the side arguing for the legalization of the use of contraceptives in a marriage. While the
opposing side, the state of Connecticut statute, had forbidden the use of contraceptives since 1879.
The Appellant, Estelle Griswold, had been counseling married couples at the Planned Parenthood
League of Connecticut, located in New Haven. The counseling aimed to give them medical advice
as well as information about different types of contraceptives, such as devices or drugs. Ms.
Griswold would meet with married couples and discuss which form of contraception was the right
fit for the patient. Due to the fact that these actions broke a Connecticut law that criminalized
counseling about birth control, Griswold and one of her colleagues were both found guilty. Nine
days after the Planned

Essay Kingdom Parables
Then the disciples came and said to him, Why do you speak to them in parables? And he
answered them, To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to
them it has not been given. For to him who has more will be given, and he will have abundance;
but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. (Matthew 13:10 12)
Jesus explains everything about the kingdom of God through parables. He also gives the reasons for
using parables to teach the people. He tells greater truths through simple stories with clear and
simple meanings. Explaining truths through stories was part of the Palestinian culture at that time.

In certain people, the word of God falls like seeds falling amidst thistles. They are people
burdened with earthly labors, greedy after gain, and fond of pleasures. Like weeds growing up
and choking up the growth of seeds, vanity and desires for illusory comforts choke up everything
good and holy in people.
And, finally, people who accept and follow the word of God, changing their way of life in line
with the teaching of God s word, are compared to the fertile earth that yields manifold fruits.
These people not only hear the word of God, but firmly decide to follow Him, and yield hundred
fold, sixty fold, and thirty fold fruits of good works, depending upon their capabilities and efforts.
This parable shows that God s word is the first step of the kingdom of God.
2) Parable of the weeds (Matthew 13: 24 30)
This describes growth of God s kingdom on this earth. The weeds are growing side by side with
the good seeds. In this parable Jesus speaks of the deplorable fact that, in the temporary life on this
earth, the faithful and righteous members of God s Kingdom have to live along disgraceful
members who live in evil ways. Though there are times of struggle, trials, temptations, worries and
deceit, the good seed

Humor, An Extensive Language Of Amusement Through Humor
Imagine a vast concert hall filled with people. The audience excitedly clamor in anticipation for
the main star of this event. The event they paid so much money for, cleared up time in their
schedule for, spent time getting to the event for. As the lights dim, the spotlight shines on the
center stage. Then an average person emerges on the stage with a thousand eyes on him. He only
has with a microphone in his hand. Just a typical person, with a normal gait and normal sense of
fashion. However, after speaking a few words in the microphone, the crowd bursts into a
cacophony of laughter. No matter how ordinary or extraordinary the person, entertainment through
humor is universal. Utilizing humor, an extensive language of amusement, to open perspectives
and challenge what is conceived right or wrong can be impactful if done correctly. Dave Sedaris
accomplishes that goal when he uses humor to illustrate his dilemma because of his identity.
Despite being an accomplished successful comedian, author, radio show host, certain people look
down at him as just a homosexual freak. Rather than gravely addressing his opposition, Sedaris
utilizes a jovial yet relatable anecdote called Chicken in a Henhouse . Incorporating ideas from
Ardian Bardon s The Philosophy of Humor , specifically, the three theories of humor: superiority
theory, incongruity theory and relief theory, Sedaris argues that the American public stereotypes
homosexuals as pedophiles and ,as a result, they feel

are not as many women attending law school as men in this movie. This leaves less female to
female conversation and less opportunity for story lines that do not revolve around men.
Hopefully, Legally Blonde, proves me wrong and turns out to be the inspiring story I remember it
to be as a kid.
Describe the results of your Bechdel Test in detail:1) Were there at least two (2) named female
characters?
There are a total of eight named female characters in the movie. In order of appearance, these
characters include: Elle Woods, Margot, Enid, Paulette Bonafonte, Vivian Kensington, Brooke
Taylor, Chutney, and Mrs. Hayworth. However, only four of these women were actually involved
in conversation lasting a minute. The female characters that had main speaking roles include, Elle,
Paulette, Vivian, and Brooke.
Elle has been described as the main female character. Paulette is a manicurist that she develops a
friendship with along the way. In a way, she takes refuge with Pauline at the salon from the
harsh reality of Harvard and Warner. Vivian is a fellow classmate of Elle s and Warner s new
fiancГ©e, whom eventually she finds a friend in. Brooke is the client that Elle s professor is
defending in her internship. 2) Did these female characters talk to each other (for at least ~60

Essay on Integration in Major League Baseball
When asked to describe a baseball the first word generally voiced is white, and before April 15,
1947 that is exactly what the game of baseball was, white. There is no law against Negroes
playing with white teams, or whites with colored clubs, but neither has invited the other for the
obvious reason they prefer to draw their talent from their own ranks ( 42 ). These were the
feelings of people living in 1947, that blacks and whites were not meant to play baseballtogether.
Then, why decades earlier, had there been an African American in the league? In 1887, an African
American Pitcher, George Stovey, was expected to pitch a game with Chicago, however, the first
baseman, Cap Anson, would not play as long as Stovey was on the field. Other... Show more content

Through all this Robinson still showed to be the team s most valuable player, securing not only his
future, but other African American players like Larry Doby.
Larry Doby was the second African American player in the mlb and the first in the American
League. Doby was signed, with the Cleveland Indians in 1947 (Editors), the same year as Jackie
Robinson. Like Robinson, Doby was excluded from many segregated hotels and restaurants
frequented by teammates, received numerous death threats (Editors). Doby faced the same
circumstances as Jackie Robinson, but Robinson already had so much publicity that Doby was
mostly overlooked at the time.
Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby were very determined to stick with the game they loved and to
make a change. Thanks to their performance both on and off the ball field, other owners began to
seek talented black players, and by 1952, there were 150 black players in organized baseball
(Branch). Their actions had repercussions far beyond the sports world (Jim). The integration of
baseball was an enormous smack in the face to all of segregation. Many racial barriers quickly
tumbled down with the integration of baseball; restaurants, hotels, and stores removed their white
only signs bringing blacks and whites together. Robinson and Doby could not have won the battle
against segregation on their own, the press helped to make their struggle to be known throughout
the country.

Argument Analysis Paper Currently, the world is in disagreement over tensions in the Middle East.
A divided country of the Syrian government and rebels has caused horrific acts. Acts that the
president of the United States deemed necessary for military retaliation. That has sparked the
debate on if it was not only justified but ethical to launch tomahawk missiles into war torn parts of
Syria. In an article on the Huffington Post, Dr. Helen Ouyang argues that it was justified and that
military intervention is needed. She uses different forms of arguments to draw comparisons of
Syria to other countries around the world, dissociate the scenario with the past military struggles
and offers many reasons why the benefit will outweigh the cost.... Show more content on

Dr. Ouyang uses many value based arguments and with a morally questionable topic, the strategy
makes sense. In paragraph two, Dr. Ouyang states, This is why to me, the issue in question is not
necessarily whether chemical weapons were used, but what the intentions of Assad s regime is,
what has happened thus far to the innocent, and what is likely to happen in the future. She
acknowledges that there is no question that the Assad regime has used chemical weapons so that is
not what the disagreement should be about. In the following paragraph, she speaks about all of the
arguments against military involvement. She ends the paragraph by stating that despite the reasons
not to be involved, she can t turn [her] back on the 110,000 who have died and the six million more
who have fled their homes. By stating the opposing arguments, labeling them as sound, and refuting
them by stating that her moral obligation is more critical, she is using a value based argument.
Basically, she says that although we see that the military involvement may be similar to past
failures, our moral decision is more serious. Later in the article, she even calls to the use of
abstract values. She claims that we should not use military intervention because of the vast reasons
many Americans think we should such as punishing Assad or to send a message. Instead, she says
that we should do it for the lesser known reason to stop the mass killings and crimes

his drunkenness. This made his plan to kill Fortunato easier for he was intoxicated and had no

When they reached the end of the catacomb Montresor chains Fortunato to the wall and began

people do not need naps during the day unless they were kept up during there nighttime sleep

Essay Comparing The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Book Of Genesis
Between the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis from the Hebrew Bible, there are
conspicuous similarities in their stories. First and foremost, these pieces of literature share an
account of a world flood. In Tablet XI of the Epic of Gilgamesh the flood story is recounted,
where Ea, a God of many chooses to divulge the disaster ahead to a male figure, Utanapishtim,
although the flood sent by Enil is not meant to be survived by anyone. In some similarity, God
favors Noahand provides him instructions of what to do for preparation of the flood. Utanapishtim
is not told of the reason for the flood, meanwhile, God s reason for the flood in Genesis was that

Yet, hunger only makes up for a small part of the complications that povertybrings. Without
enough money, how does someone suppose to afford to live in a house? Though most Miami
County residents do not see homeless people, does not hide the fact we have people living
without a home. Peru is not a big city like New York, or Los Angeles, but no matter where you are
at in America, there will always be those who cannot afford to rent or own any type of housing.
Even if everyone could afford some type of housing to live in, it does not mean they can afford all
the necessary utilities. Air conditioning is not a necessity, but someone might not have enough
money to provide a fan. The cost for utilities such as electricity for a fan to keep the cool in the
summer heat, or simply having running water might be a problem for someone with little to no
income. With winter approaching even some people will have to go without heat in the Miami

The attention of the project research in the mass media is so large that is has become enormous for

Homelessness Is A Basic Need And All Human Beings Essay
Shelter is a basic need and all human beings are entitled to it. Though some may have shelter, they
not find a home. Homelessness has become rampant throughout the US population. Each day more
and more people are reported not to have this basic need, sleeping in the streets and wandering all
day long. This has become a major area of concern for the government, social services providers and
social policy makers. The government through the US Department of Housing and Urban
Development has put in enormous efforts to combat the annual rise in homelessnessbut the situation
has not significantly been curbed. Last year, for instance, there were 92, 593 homeless people
who were reported to be chronically homeless. Although this is a 16 percent drop from 2010
statistics, the current figure is enormous enough to give sleepless nights to policy makers and the
federal government. (US Department of Housing and Urban Development). This brings to question
what the real odds bedeviling access to proper shelter are. While there is interplay of numerous
factors, key among them is the rise in povertylevels. As the poverty index rises, so does the inability
to afford basic shelter units.
Many of the US state governments (majorly New York) have placed rent controls so as to make
housing affordable to its citizens. Landlords rent their housing units to tenants at government
controlled prices. This is done by the introduction on price ceilings and price floors. Tenants are
therefore enabled

Essay on Moral Argument for Existence of God
All moral arguments for the existence of God work on the principle that we all have a shared
sense of morality. Despite cultural differences, broadly speaking, humans worldwide have a vague
idea of what is right and what is wrong; a moral argument for the existence of God would say that
this mutual understanding is proof of Gods existence. Immanuel Kant put forward this argument
(although, not a moral argument); God as the source of objective morality. Firstly, he addressed the
categorical imperative; our own sense of duty, and that being moral was case of following this
principle, for example, paying your debts. He said that it was our duty to promote the highest good
(summum bonum), however virtue and happiness are independent of one... Show more content on

Kant s other assumption is that everybody s aim is achieve summum bonum, but it would be
wrong to assume that everybody has the same goals in life. We can summarise Kant s argument
into three different stages, firstly; morality demands us to aim for the highest good, secondly; we
cannot attain this unless there is a God to assist us, and lastly; God must exist to ensure that we
achieve that which we are duty bound to do. If you were to share Kant s assumptions, it would
become necessary to assume that there is a God.
Although Kant s argument is indeed notable, there are a number of criticisms. Firstly, it does not
prove the God of classical theism, for if summum bonum can be achieved by humans, then it means
that not only God can, and he is not omnipotent. Secondly, Kant makes the enormous assumption
that virtue must be rewarded by happiness, but gives nothing to back up why this has to be the case.
It is like saying that salt and vinegar must go together on chips, but as they can t in this life, there
must be an afterlife where this can happen, such an assumption seems absurd. Another weakness, as
previously mentioned above, is that it seems wrong to assume that everyone feels that the same
sense of duty to strive for summum bonum.
HP Owen and Cardinal Newman put forward another moral argument, morality as derived from
God (via conscience and objective laws or rules). For

Rhino Poaching And The Exotic Animal Trade
Would you change your lifestyle to save the existence of a species? In western society, it is our
lifestyle to go to the doctors when you are sick, drive to work and buy food from a grocery store.
It is hard to remember that around the globe there are different customs and ways of life. A lot of
people make the means to live by working the land, owning their own shops, fishing, and hunting
animals. Poachers in Africa make their living by hunting elephants, lions, rhinos, and other
exotic animals. Countries in Asia, like Vietnam and China, have been using rhino horn
medicinally for generations. Would they be willing to change their entire lifestyle to save the
existence of a species? I analyzed an image created by the World Wildlife Fund that addresses
rhino poaching and the exotic animal trade. There are two subjects in this image, the rhino and
those within the rhino. The rhino is being captured by people, but at the same time, its horn is
already being removed. I think that this represents the huge market for rhino horn. We are
collecting as much horn as we can as fast as we can do it. This idea of our insatiable appetite for
exotic animal products is also reinforced by how the horn is being removed. Somebody, with a
chainsaw, is cutting off the horn below the base of it. This unsustainable practice will kill the
animal. If the horn was cut above the base it would grow back and the rhino could continue on, but
it is common for poachers to remove as much horn as

Abstract
Purposeful movement of an upper limb can be difficult for many individuals with post stroke
functional limitations such as hemiparesis. Due to the level of disability caused by stroke,
researchers have investigated rehabilitation protocols such as unilateral and bilateral training, and
the benefits of each in expediting progress towards recovery. Neurophysiological mechanisms were
studied, analyzing the effects of unilateral training, bilateral training, and a combination of the two
and their effect on the brain. Participants of the studies varied widely. However,... Show more

Mudie Matyas (2000) claim that long term potentiation may result from initial bilateral
rehabilitation, which in turn established a perpetual firing pattern of the brain. Once this firing
pattern is established, simultaneous activation of both hemispheres aids the more affected limb s
hemisphere via crossed corticospinal pathways. This is suspected to occur because the strong
neuronal inputs to the less affected hemisphere are able to assist the weaker inputs to the more
affected hemisphere. Through this association, the stronger input assists the weaker input to
become potentiated, thereby increasing supply to the more affected upper extremity (Mudie Matyas,

Cirrhosis of the Liver but these are the most common. All of these symptoms help in the
detection of this horrible disease. The faster Cirrhosis is detected, the better off the person s
chances of survival are. However, there is no cure for Cirrhosis of the Liver and depending on the
cause of the disease, some treatments can slow down the progression and minimize damage to
liver cells, (Digestive Disorders Health Center Cirrhosis of the Liver, 2008).
Cirrhosis of the Liver can be detected in a few ways. One way is testing. A physical exam, blood

Coping with Unexplained Fertility
If you and your partner have trouble conceiving for six months to a year, you might think you have
a fertility problem. Your next step is to go to a clinic and get tested for infertility symptoms. If
these tests result in no answers, you are diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
According to the Center for Human Reproduction, around 30% of women diagnosed with infertility

that actually impedes patients from receiving appropriate infertility treatments. You and your

Abstinence and Orgy in Measure for Measure
Many existing views of Measure for Measure seem intriguing but incomplete. They might reinforce
our perception of this play as fragmented and baffling, because they do not integrate apparently
conflicting outlooks presented in the play s Vienna, and generated by the mysterious action of
Vincentio. Notice how the following different interpretations display the conflicts: the extreme
view proposed by Roy Battenhouse that the Duke stands for God (Rossiter 108 28); the modified
position of Elizabeth Marie Pope that the Duke is a successful magistrate with divinely delegated

The context of theology provides one key to this analysis. Thomas Morton s translation of
Calvin s The Institution of Christian Religion, for example, asserts a tripartite division of
temptation as a trial in which God tests us by offering lures; the devil then assails the weakened
individuals; and evildoers consequently seek to take advantage of the afflicted (75 77). Thomas
Tymme s A Commentarie of John Caluine, vpon the first booke of Moses called Genesis also
describes God s role in temptation as that of putting us to a serious triall in order to test faith
(473). And Thomas Taylor s Christs Combate and Conquest notes that God may tempt us by
sending afflictions, by pronouncing a speciall commandement, or by occasioning objects lures.
These divinely ordained temptations occur for a proofe what is in vs, and a tryall what we doe
(69). It is the divine prerogative to assay humanity, and the human duty to obey God.
One who assumes this prerogative to test another s character by occasioning temptation who
experiments with others while pretending to be sacrosanct is presumptuous. And pride the very
medieval/Augustinian pride of life is the Duke s failing in arrogating to himself the power to tempt

Rosh Ha Shannah is the Jewish New Year, that celebrates the creation of the world and God s rule
over it. This is one of the holiest days of the year for the Jews, along with Yom Kippur. One of the
many examples of Jewish customs are the dietary laws. These can be found in Leviticus and
Deuteronomy. Any Jew who chooses to follow these rules, do not eat pork or shellfish such as
shrimp or oysters. Meat and milk products are stored separately and are not served at the same

Firstly, Janie views the horizon as an opportunity for something great to happen in her life. For

With the results of this, Janie ran from Killicks to marry Joe for numerous years while waiting for
her hunger for love to be filled. However it never was with Joe. After the death of Joe, Janie soon

for love. She was now going to find it herself. Proving that she was no longer the naive girl who sat

Lastly, at the end of, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie s view of the horizon no longer was

Injury, the treatment of a patient s disease or diseases, the patient s response to a disease, as well
as one big thing that nurses are known for, and that is being a patient s advocate nursing has
been one of the fastest growing fields since the 1990 s (Mueller et al.,2012). Advocacy is
defined as an action in which a person speaks out, argues a cause, supports and defends on the
behalf of others. I believe that the role of being a patient advocate is one of the most important
things a nurse can do because there are many patients that cannot speak on their behalf, I believe
that it is up to the nurses to be those patients as well as all patient s voices (Mueller et al.,
2012).A Practical nurse is defined as any person that is licensed in Florida to practice practical
nursing. In order to

Dead Chivalry in the Wife of Bath’s Tale
In the time period between 1066 and 1485, better known as the medieval age, a set of standards
and how people are placed into order of importance in society is known as feudalism. In this
caste system there are four groups; Kings, Barons, Vassals, and Serfs. The main individual of
focus comes from the vassals, better known as the knight. Knights from this time period start
out around 7 years old and are taught a code of chivalry (code of conduct) and the basics of
knight hood. The knight in the Wife of Bath s tale forcibly violates a young madden and punished
with execution by decapitation. He is saved by the queen but is sent on a twelve month and a day
quest. The knight in the Wife of Bath s Tale doesn t display chivalry by his actions... Show more

The knight shows his true chivric colors by saying My lady and my love, my dearest wife, I leave
the matter to your wise decision. (406 407) By allowing his wife to chose for him he displays true
chivalry. He is also allowing to choose what she wants for her husband; this is a recall to the answer
she gave him to save his life.
The knight in the Wife of Bath s tale doesn t display chivalry by his actions of violating an innocent
woman and continues to dishonor this code by being deeming and crass to an old woman who
helps save his life yet at the end allows the old woman to make a decision regarding his life.
Chivalry is a code of conduct on how to treat and respect women. Raping a young madden is
probably back in the medieval ages illegal and against the code of chivalry for a knight. Chivalry is
also a way of how to behave, when acting rudely towards the old woman he breaks that code,
even if it was not direct to her face. At the end we see the knight finally display chivalry by
allowing the old woman to decide his fate and because he was chivric he got what he truly

Personal Narrative Writing
Narrative writing retells an experience that has been life changing in some way. That means that the
subject can be a moment in which you learned something about yourself, about life, or had
something frightening happen to you that has changed your point of view. In the sample essays
provided, I read about experiences with racism, police brutality, and domestic violence.
In Rebecca Goldsmith s essay, Where Does It End? she describes a personal experience in which
she notices her grandmother s racial bias. I related to her writing because I have noticed members
of my family making racist remarks. When I visit my grandfather for holidays, he will ask me
about how I am doing and if I am in a relationship. When I reply, Yes, Grandpa. I have

Civic Duty
Duty comes from the Old French word Duete originating in the late 1250 s to early 1300 s, a
past participle of the Latin word Devoir . In which both of these word s meaning to have an
obligation or commitment resulting in action of oneself due to moral commitment. An early
philosopher by the name of Marcus Tullius Cicero said Duty is a result of being a human, is a
result of one s particular place in life, is a result in one character, and also a result of one s own
moral expectations. Many people even believe in a Civic Duty that is one being responsible
enough to obey the law, pay taxes and serve on a jury, These are just a few of many Civic Duties
people acknowledge in our society today. The Army has even accepted its own meaning... Show

as the following Any person subject to this chapter who through neglect or design misses the
movement of a ship, aircraft, or unit with which he is required in the course of duty to move
shall be punished as a court martial may direct. In the case of general court martials not only do
they have the ability to reduce the accused grade to Private (E 1) but, they also have the ability
to imprison or discharge the solider. In the case of a dishonorable discharge you lose all benefits

92 within the UCMJ which has three way for the offense to be committed, the offenses are as
followed. Offense one: violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation. Offense
two: having knowledge of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces, which
it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or. Finally offense three: is derelict in the
performance of his duties; shall be punished as a court martial may direct. This offense in the
UCMJ is also not taken lightly, as it can result in dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of pay and
allowances, as well and two years of confinement with in a prison. Even if convicted

Comparing A London fete and Composed Upon Westminster Bridge
Comparing A London fete and Composed Upon Westminster Bridge A London fete and
composed upon Westminster Bridge. I am going to be comparing two poems in this essay the
first poem is London fete which was written by a man called Coventry Patmore this poem is
about a hanging that took place and about the effect it had on other people who watched. The
second poem is composed upon Westminster bridge by William words worth which is about a
man who is standing on a bridge describing the view he sees and how he feels looking at this
view. The theme to composed upon Westminster Bridge is firstly about nature and beauty and
peace. It describes his view of London to be beautiful and how he feels so calm and relaxed from

In know that the setting is in the poem because the poem says the beauty of the morning, so
silent so bare and the fact that in the morning the sun is shining and it s peaceful creates the right
atmosphere that the poet wants. In London fete it will be darker as the first line sets the scene. It
says all nights fell which shows it is at night and this sets the scene for the poem. As it is a
negative poem if it was a bright colourful day then the negative mood that is created in this poem
wouldn t be created. This shows how having the right type of time of day is important to the poet
as it helps them set the mood to there poem. Both these poems are alike because there set in
London but that s when the similarities end. A London fete is a narrative poem, the start of the
poem explains how a, man is brought out to be hanged as the poem says they brought the man out
to be hanged which starts the story of the poem off, the middle of the poem explains how the
audience is waiting with excitement for this man to be hanged, for example the text says struggles
for betting standings ended this shows that they are all excited to watch this evil deed to be done.
At the end of the poem it finishes the story with how little children who watched this murder were
influenced by it and started killing other things as at the end of the poem it says two children

Photo Essay Review Gursl And Klima
In the Photo Essay Reviews by Zeynep Dervrim Gursel and Alan Klima, one of the main points,
was to point out what Hoffman tended to do in his photo essay, which was show how mining
shaped the bodies of these younger step by step during the workplace. In addition, the authors go on
the defining what a photo essayis, which is defined as collections of images, narrative in which
visual essay elements create themes and dialogues (Gursel et Klima). However, Hoffman lacks
these elements in his photo essay. They point out that Hoffman contradicted his main focus he
claimed he would. The point out what Hoffman is mostly successful, which is the shape and text of
the work. He points out some of evidences from Hoffman talking about work of the diamond...

Then they point out the lack of description could confuse the readers/ viewers, because they don t
know whether to read the images from left to right or vice versa. This analysis is a strong argument,
because it is very important when doing a photo essay to be concise and clear as possible so that
the readers/ viewers would not be confused as to what the writer is trying to convey or show
them. It is also important to show a chronological order. Another strong argument is when they
make note that Hoffman doesn t explicitly mention about race. However, a photo essay as a mode
of Ethnography require gaze. Which implies that physical appearance need to be describe since
the gaze revolved around the bodies. Moreover, the comments on the body scar and how to
differentiate between the body of a workplace and from war. There is no way to differentiate them;
unless they are accompanied by an audio interview. It is true just simply gazing at the body, the scar
cannot convey the information to the gazers. Therefore, a communication needs to occur between
the gazers and participants to get the full story of the person. Overall, they seem to pose questions a
lot, each time they formulate an argument. This is remarkable, because it makes their arguments
stronger. They also compare between the photo essay with other works done by Hoffman or by
different authors. This indicate that he done his literature review and strengthened their

The Evolution Of Young Earth Creationism
Young earth creationism is what most people mean when referring to creationism. This is primarily
due to the fact that the creationists most visible in the public eye during the creation evolution
debate were most likely to hold young earth creationist views. Additionally, the terms recent earth or
recent creation have been used to refer to this same position. These terms clearly define their
position as one in which the creation of the world occurred somewhat recently, that is, the world is
young. However, it obviously doesn t provide us with much information beyond that. To begin with,
how young is the world? In order to help answer this and other questions concerning young earth
creationism, biologist and philosopher of science... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next point Nelson and Reynolds make is one of disagreement between young earth and
progressive creationists. Concerning the impact of the curse in Genesis 3, young earth creationists
typically view this point to be the entrance of all death and suffering to the world. Progressive
creationists, however, consider there to be a long period of time between the creation of the world
and the introduction of sin into the world. Because of this length of time, progressive creationists
consider animal death and suffering to have occurred long before the first humans sinned. The
question of animal death and suffering prior to the fall of mankind is one that will be discussed in
further detail when looking at the old earth positions
According to Nelson and Reynolds, the strongest point of contention between young earth and
progressive creationists is that of the flood. Young earth creationists generally view the account of
the flood as actually having occurred. Other positions, however, progressive included, consider it a
metaphor, or myth which has theological implications, but does not describe any actual historical
events.

Conflict Between Romeo And Juliet Essay
The conflict between the Capulet and The Montague families grows stronger every day as well the
push for supremacy. Romeos intrusion into a Capulet s party transformed Tybalt s condition into an
uncontrolled state which led to a fight between his nemeses Romeo and Mercutio. The dispute
between these 3 young adults is described as humorous but quite solemn by Shakespeare. The
emotions that each character portrays at the beginning sequence are quite joyful and members of
both houses speak with sarcastic tones and many jokes are passed along to one another. As the
scene continues these emotions and events take a turn for the worst and the Motivations for the
house members are now clear, one will claim revenge while the other will protect his... Show more

pain, he expresses his thoughts and feelings on the Capulet and Montague Houses saying A
plague o both your houses! as well as speaking ill of Romeo in which he states Why the devil
came you between us? I was hurt under your arm . These words alone had a major impact on all
bystanders by averring in a metaphorical and hostile tone that the houses of Capulet and
Montague should be rid of their feud or more men (like Mercutio) will wind up either dead, hurt
or betrayed by one of their own. The passing away of Mercutio also dampens the previous joyful
mood of Tybalt, Romeo and the bystanders in which they now relies that Mercutio s words were
not of a normal human being but of a spiritual presence/being, which tries to portray the idea of
equality and how no one person or in this case family should be higher than any other. If peace

The Washington Times published an article in March titled Emory students in pain from pro Trump

effectively from the title, but one student s complaints can most effectively indicate the greatest
threat to educationtoday. I m supposed to feel comfortable and safe...But this man is being
supported by students on our campus, and our administration shows that they, by their silence,
support it as well ... I don t deserve to feel afraid at my school. Our young countryman here has
made it clear that he is incapable of merely tolerating someone else s thoughts and beliefs. The

The Industrial Revolution And The Age Of Revolution
The Age of Revolution, as defined by professor Jones, is characterized by a general attitude that
change could bring about improvements in all areas of people s lives... (text). What was unique
about this attitude was that it came from the everyday people and not just the rulers it was the
opposite of big man history . Therefore, in terms of the Age, a revolution can be understood as the
active and rapid act of capturing of this improvement of life by the common people. Under this
framework it can be understood that there were several revolutions throughout the Age of
Revolution, which all contributed to and were a result of the Age s burgeoning view. Two such
revolutions essential to the Age were the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. These
two provide the most abundant resources to understand the Age in that they both are revolutions
powered by the everyday people.
The French Revolution was a turning point for Europe from which there was no return. It set the
mold for revolutions of the Age and showed just how deeply ingrained and powerful the ideals of
the Age could be in the Western World. The French Revolution finds its causes in the now cliched
concept that when the masses are displeased, the king is in trouble. However it is crucial to
understand that the French Revolution established this cliche for the West. The simplest way to
chart out the atmosphere of France at the time, a look at the PICSET categories of France offers the
clearest depiction.

Two Contrasting Places In The Poisonwood Bible
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver uses two extremely contrasting places in the
Congo and the United States in order to represent contrasting ideas. The United States represents
civility and home for the Price family, while Congo in contrast represents a much more savage,
sinister, and less developed country throughout the novel. The two places are major contrasts of
each and represent entirely different ideas. The United States is a place of civility, development,
and hospitality throughout the novel, it is home for the missionary Price family, but Leah Price
no longer feels comfortable there, so they go to the Congo. The Congo is a major contrast to the
United States in that it is viewed as a country with, cannibal natives that would boil us in a pot and
eat us up. (Kingsolver 21) This quote by child Rex Minton represents how most people in the
United States feel about the country, it was a savage country filled with cannibals which is a strong
contrast to how developed and advanced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The novel also touches on how primal the Congolese peoples beliefs are compared to the United
States when it depicts how, most believe white people know how to turn the sun on and off and
make the river flow backward. (Kingsolver 280) This shows how backwards both of the nations
views are of each other, while one thinks the other is savages the Congolese believe that
Americans are gods. This same idea is also established later when Leah states, I ve heard foreign
visitors complain that the Congolese are greedy, naГЇve, and inefficient. They have no idea. The
Congolese are skilled at survival and perceptive belief or else dead at an early age. (Kingsolver
501) The quote yet again shows how little the people of each country know each other

The Impact of Urban Legends Throughout History and Around the World
Urban legends have always intrigued me. I am unsure if it is the scare factor that intrigues me, the
way in which some of them are told, or some of the lessons that are supposed to be taken from
them but one thing I know for sure is that I do not stand alone in this belief. In fact urban legends
are told all over the world, even in countries that many have never heard of before. Many people
of all backgrounds find them to be mystifying and sometimes even alarming. It seems as if urban
legends have the ability to draw any person in ranging from a young child to the typical adult male.
Whether or not you believe these incredible tales is almost irrelevant in many ... Show more content

With all of this information collected, I was able to begin to analyze my notes and findings.
While conducting my research, I found that urban legends have existed since the beginning of
time in all different kinds of cultures and societies around the world. One example of this would
be the Incas. The idea of urban legends in Inca society played a key role throughout many people
s lives. Legends of early rulers in Inca society were some of the most common this clearly
reflecting how important the rule of some of these leaders initially were. In fact it has been
observed that these urban legends reflect many of the preoccupations of the Incas wars and
alliances, imperial expansion and dynastic succession (Cavendish 347). Other early legends
originated in the West in classical Greek and Roman society. It has been said that when interpreting
legends, Greeks themselves valued them not only as entertaining stories, but on one level at least,
as examples of the heights and depths at which human nature is capable of reaching (Cavendish
154). A good example of this would be the Odyssey of Odysseus. In his search for a homeland,
Odysseus encountered many obstacles that

The Importance Of Biodiversity
The 3.7 billion years of the earth s biological history can be summarized as follows: Organisms
convert energy into food, chemical elements perform their cycles, and species perform different
biological functions (niches) evolving in response to changes according to conditions
environmental impacts. This implies that today, every specieson the planet has gone through an
evolutionary process and that each individual performs their role in the ecosystem. Like the many
species in the world, we human beings (thanks to certain characteristics that allow us to adapt and
modify the environment) have been able to increase our chances of survival on earth and this has
led us to a gigantic population and economic growth, which we call Development. However, such a
development makes the degradation of natural resources increasingly fast, making it imperative and
necessary to establish conservation oriented guidelines, since biodiversityis of the utmost
importance for the functioning of the ecosystem.
BIODIVERSITY
Biodiversity or biological diversity is a term used very well to describe the richness and variety
of all living things in the world; from plants and animals to microorganisms and beings a
thousand times more complex. Thus, on biological diversity we can say that it is present in the
most varied places, from the cold glaciers of the Arctic to the volcanic regions of Chile. In Brazil,
this fact is not different, and this is the country that holds about 20% of the world s

Meursault In The Stranger, By Albert Camus
A person who is able to kill another human being without any second thought to consequences is
one who lacks proper morals and can be labeled as a cruel and an easily triggered individual. In
Albert Camus The Stranger the main character Meursault comes off as cruel after killing an Arab
and then showing no remorse, yet despite the excessive gunshots Meursault fires, he cannot be
categorized as cruel as he does not have a violent background but merely as one who is
unconcerned with emotions. Meursault is a man who is unable to connect emotionwith the actions
that he takes and the consequences that follow, and if he were to have been enlisted in WWI he
would have been a very unstable and unreliable soldier due to many possibilities of unforeseen
events that could ensue while in combat.
For Meursault life decisions are based on what is most convenient to him, not based on emotions
that he may or may not feel. When Marie asks Meursault if he had any feelings of love towards
her he said that sort of question had no meaning (Camus 24) but that he probably didn t really feel

need for companionship; Meursault would be able to rationalize that he had no benefit being a

  • 2. Pacific Lamprey Essay The Pacific Lamprey (Entosphenus tridentatus) is an anadromous species that is found along the west coast of North America, primarily along the coast of Washington, Oregon, and northern California. E. tridentatus is a semelparous species that can live up to five years and can spend up to three and a half years in saltwater. They begin metamorphosis in July and the known period of entry into salt water is from December until June. In the ocean E. tridentatus have been documented to primarily feed on Pacific Salmonspecies such as Chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), Coho (Oncorhynchus kisutch), Sockeye (Oncorhynchus nerka), and Pink (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha). O. tshawytscha have endured most lamprey attacks because researchers believe that E. tridentatus attack this salmon when it is making the transition to swim back up stream to spawn. E. tridentatus who do not represent an anadromous life style also prey heavily on resident salmonid species. Salmonid species have an important role in the diet and life history of E. tridentatus as they are an important prey item.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... tridentatus is known as an opportunistic predator as it tries to exert as little energy as possible in order to obtain an easy meal. However, we do not know for sure if E. tridentatus preferred salmonid of choice is in fact O. tshawytscha. Observations from past studies have shown that O. tshawytscha is preyed upon more than other fish species. When it is compared against another salmonid species, such as a O. kisutch, there is slight difference between them due to availability and environmental conditions that might prevent E. tridentatus to prey upon certain species. The question remains if E. tridentatus was placed inside a control environment with several salmonid species that all have an equal chance of predation, would it still prefer a certain species or would it still exhibit an opportunistic feeding ... • 3. The Legend of King Arthur Essay By the ninth century people all over were telling the fabulous tales and romances about Arthur and his kingdom. The common people heard them sung by bards, while in the court poets wrote different versions. In each retelling the speaker would select certain details for emphasis and introduce new elements, so that the story could be adapted to the particular time and audience. Although most historians believe that there actually did exist an Arthur, they differ on how major his role was on influencing society during his time. To understand the most widely accepted view on when and how Arthur gained fame, one must be aware of the historical time period surrounding Arthur. The unity that the Roman government imposed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The passage then continues describing the twelve battles that Arthur fought and won. The last battle, the greatest in the history of the country, was at Badon Hill. It resulted in a total massacre of the Saxons, establishing fifty years of peace from the Saxon s horrible brutality of slaughtering, burning and senseless vandalism (Jenkins 30 31). Nennius s historical account is backed up by a set of Easter Tables. They were calculating tables as to when Easter would fall out for the next given number of years and in them were noted events of outstanding importance. In the annals were two dates regarding Arthur. The first date is disputed: It is put as either 499 or 518 A.D. The first entry reads: ?Battle of Badon, in which Arthur carried the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ on his shoulders for three days and three nights and the Britons were victors (Jenkins 28).? The second entry dated 539 reads: The Battle of Camlann, in which Arthur and Modred perished. And there was plague in Britain and Ireland (Jenkins 28).? These accounts of Arthur are not only the basis for his fame, but they also show us the broad terrain of Arthur s military activity. While the Battle of Mount Badon was fought in Southern England, the battle of Cat Coit Celidon, mentioned in the Historia Brittonum, was fought in Scotland. The implications of ... • 4. The Importance Of Cellular And Cellular Signals Regulating... After thickening of chamber walls during cardiac embryogenesis, oxygen and nutrients can no longer be passively diffused into cardiac cells, therefore, a primitive vascular develops to supply these vital resources. The plexus then further matures into coronary arteries and veins which ensures continued development of the heart. However, the vasculogenesis of these coronary blood vessels is not fully understood and has been a topic of intense research and debate. Over time, various models have been proposed, indicating the importance of cellular and molecular signals regulating vascularization of the embryonic heart. Interestingly, research has highlighted the contribution of extra cardiac cells which migrates and differentiates in the heart. Keywords: Vasculogenesis, angiogenesis, embryogenesis, VEGF, anatomical variations. Introduction Much of what is known about the origin of cells that make up the coronary vascular network comes from immuno histochemical analyses, quail chick chimera experiments, retroviral labelling, gene targeting experiments and, more recently, lineage tracing studies. Interestingly, not a single cell that makes up the coronary system of the heart arises from the heart. All of this happens without ever tapping into the blood that courses through the primitive heart tube (Mu et al., 2005; David et al., 2002). Within the past two decades much progress has been made into elucidating the molecular principles initiating and regulating coronary vessel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing Griswold Vs. Connecticut Griswold vs Connecticut Madison Hayworth Clovis Community College November 25, 2015 Often times in today s world we take certain luxuries for granted. The right to vote, the right of free speech, etc. But one of those luxuries that people often don t consider is the right for women to use birth control. The Supreme Court case that argued for the use of contraceptives was Griswold vs Connecticut. The court case was argued March 29th 30th 1965, but was not decided until June 7th 1965. The case was on the debate of whether or not the use of contraceptives should be legalized. Griswold, the Executive and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, was on the side arguing for the legalization of the use of contraceptives in a marriage. While the opposing side, the state of Connecticut statute, had forbidden the use of contraceptives since 1879. The Appellant, Estelle Griswold, had been counseling married couples at the Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, located in New Haven. The counseling aimed to give them medical advice as well as information about different types of contraceptives, such as devices or drugs. Ms. Griswold would meet with married couples and discuss which form of contraception was the right fit for the patient. Due to the fact that these actions broke a Connecticut law that criminalized counseling about birth control, Griswold and one of her colleagues were both found guilty. Nine days after the Planned ... • 6. Essay Kingdom Parables Then the disciples came and said to him, Why do you speak to them in parables? And he answered them, To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to him who has more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. (Matthew 13:10 12) Jesus explains everything about the kingdom of God through parables. He also gives the reasons for using parables to teach the people. He tells greater truths through simple stories with clear and simple meanings. Explaining truths through stories was part of the Palestinian culture at that time. In certain people, the word of God falls like seeds falling amidst thistles. They are people burdened with earthly labors, greedy after gain, and fond of pleasures. Like weeds growing up and choking up the growth of seeds, vanity and desires for illusory comforts choke up everything good and holy in people. And, finally, people who accept and follow the word of God, changing their way of life in line with the teaching of God s word, are compared to the fertile earth that yields manifold fruits. These people not only hear the word of God, but firmly decide to follow Him, and yield hundred fold, sixty fold, and thirty fold fruits of good works, depending upon their capabilities and efforts. This parable shows that God s word is the first step of the kingdom of God. 2) Parable of the weeds (Matthew 13: 24 30) This describes growth of God s kingdom on this earth. The weeds are growing side by side with the good seeds. In this parable Jesus speaks of the deplorable fact that, in the temporary life on this earth, the faithful and righteous members of God s Kingdom have to live along disgraceful members who live in evil ways. • 7. Humor, An Extensive Language Of Amusement Through Humor Imagine a vast concert hall filled with people. The audience excitedly clamor in anticipation for the main star of this event. The event they paid so much money for, cleared up time in their schedule for, spent time getting to the event for. As the lights dim, the spotlight shines on the center stage. Then an average person emerges on the stage with a thousand eyes on him. He only has with a microphone in his hand. Just a typical person, with a normal gait and normal sense of fashion. However, after speaking a few words in the microphone, the crowd bursts into a cacophony of laughter. No matter how ordinary or extraordinary the person, entertainment through humor is universal. Utilizing humor, an extensive language of amusement, to open perspectives and challenge what is conceived right or wrong can be impactful if done correctly. Dave Sedaris accomplishes that goal when he uses humor to illustrate his dilemma because of his identity. Despite being an accomplished successful comedian, author, radio show host, certain people look down at him as just a homosexual freak. Rather than gravely addressing his opposition, Sedaris utilizes a jovial yet relatable anecdote called Chicken in a Henhouse . Incorporating ideas from Ardian Bardon s The Philosophy of Humor , specifically, the three theories of humor: superiority theory, incongruity theory and relief theory, Sedaris argues that the American public stereotypes homosexuals as pedophiles and ,as a result, they feel ... • 10. Essay on Integration in Major League Baseball When asked to describe a baseball the first word generally voiced is white, and before April 15, 1947 that is exactly what the game of baseball was, white. There is no law against Negroes playing with white teams, or whites with colored clubs, but neither has invited the other for the obvious reason they prefer to draw their talent from their own ranks ( 42 ). These were the feelings of people living in 1947, that blacks and whites were not meant to play baseballtogether. Then, why decades earlier, had there been an African American in the league? In 1887, an African American Pitcher, George Stovey, was expected to pitch a game with Chicago, however, the first baseman, Cap Anson, would not play as long as Stovey was on the field. Other... Larry Doby was the second African American player in the mlb and the first in the American League. Doby was signed, with the Cleveland Indians in 1947 (Editors), the same year as Jackie Robinson. Like Robinson, Doby was excluded from many segregated hotels and restaurants frequented by teammates, received numerous death threats (Editors). Doby faced the same circumstances as Jackie Robinson, but Robinson already had so much publicity that Doby was mostly overlooked at the time. Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby were very determined to stick with the game they loved and to make a change. Thanks to their performance both on and off the ball field, other owners began to seek talented black players, and by 1952, there were 150 black players in organized baseball (Branch). Their actions had repercussions far beyond the sports world (Jim). The integration of baseball was an enormous smack in the face to all of segregation. Many racial barriers quickly tumbled down with the integration of baseball; restaurants, hotels, and stores removed their white only signs bringing blacks and whites together. • 11. Argument Analysis Paper. Currently, The World Is In... Argument Analysis Paper Currently, the world is in disagreement over tensions in the Middle East. A divided country of the Syrian government and rebels has caused horrific acts. Acts that the president of the United States deemed necessary for military retaliation. That has sparked the debate on if it was not only justified but ethical to launch tomahawk missiles into war torn parts of Syria. In an article on the Huffington Post, Dr. Helen Ouyang argues that it was justified and that military intervention is needed. She uses different forms of arguments to draw comparisons of Syria to other countries around the world, dissociate the scenario with the past military struggles and offers many reasons why the benefit will outweigh the cost.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. Ouyang uses many value based arguments and with a morally questionable topic, the strategy makes sense. In paragraph two, Dr. Ouyang states, This is why to me, the issue in question is not necessarily whether chemical weapons were used, but what the intentions of Assad s regime is, what has happened thus far to the innocent, and what is likely to happen in the future. She acknowledges that there is no question that the Assad regime has used chemical weapons so that is not what the disagreement should be about. In the following paragraph, she speaks about all of the arguments against military involvement. She ends the paragraph by stating that despite the reasons not to be involved, she can t turn [her] back on the 110,000 who have died and the six million more who have fled their homes. By stating the opposing arguments, labeling them as sound, and refuting them by stating that her moral obligation is more critical, she is using a value based argument. Basically, she says that although we see that the military involvement may be similar to past failures, our moral decision is more serious. Later in the article, she even calls to the use of abstract values. She claims that we should not use military intervention because of the vast reasons many Americans think we should such as punishing Assad or to send a message. Instead, she says that we should do it for the lesser known reason to stop the mass killings and crimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First and foremost, these pieces of literature share an account of a world flood. In Tablet XI of the Epic of Gilgamesh the flood story is recounted, where Ea, a God of many chooses to divulge the disaster ahead to a male figure, Utanapishtim, although the flood sent by Enil is not meant to be survived by anyone. In some similarity, God favors Noahand provides him instructions of what to do for preparation of the flood. Homelessness has become rampant throughout the US population. Each day more and more people are reported not to have this basic need, sleeping in the streets and wandering all day long. This has become a major area of concern for the government, social services providers and social policy makers. The government through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development has put in enormous efforts to combat the annual rise in homelessnessbut the situation has not significantly been curbed. Last year, for instance, there were 92, 593 homeless people who were reported to be chronically homeless. Although this is a 16 percent drop from 2010 statistics, the current figure is enormous enough to give sleepless nights to policy makers and the federal government. (US Department of Housing and Urban Development). This brings to question what the real odds bedeviling access to proper shelter are. While there is interplay of numerous factors, key among them is the rise in povertylevels. As the poverty index rises, so does the inability to afford basic shelter units. Many of the US state governments (majorly New York) have placed rent controls so as to make housing affordable to its citizens. • 21. Essay on Moral Argument for Existence of God All moral arguments for the existence of God work on the principle that we all have a shared sense of morality. Despite cultural differences, broadly speaking, humans worldwide have a vague idea of what is right and what is wrong; a moral argument for the existence of God would say that this mutual understanding is proof of Gods existence. Immanuel Kant put forward this argument (although, not a moral argument); God as the source of objective morality. Firstly, he addressed the categorical imperative; our own sense of duty, and that being moral was case of following this principle, for example, paying your debts. He said that it was our duty to promote the highest good (summum bonum), however virtue and happiness are independent of one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant s other assumption is that everybody s aim is achieve summum bonum, but it would be wrong to assume that everybody has the same goals in life. We can summarise Kant s argument into three different stages, firstly; morality demands us to aim for the highest good, secondly; we cannot attain this unless there is a God to assist us, and lastly; God must exist to ensure that we achieve that which we are duty bound to do. If you were to share Kant s assumptions, it would become necessary to assume that there is a God. Although Kant s argument is indeed notable, there are a number of criticisms. Firstly, it does not prove the God of classical theism, for if summum bonum can be achieved by humans, then it means that not only God can, and he is not omnipotent. Secondly, Kant makes the enormous assumption that virtue must be rewarded by happiness, but gives nothing to back up why this has to be the case. It is like saying that salt and vinegar must go together on chips, but as they can t in this life, there must be an afterlife where this can happen, such an assumption seems absurd. Another weakness, as previously mentioned above, is that it seems wrong to assume that everyone feels that the same sense of duty to strive for summum bonum. Poachers in Africa make their living by hunting elephants, lions, rhinos, and other exotic animals. Countries in Asia, like Vietnam and China, have been using rhino horn medicinally for generations. Would they be willing to change their entire lifestyle to save the existence of a species? I analyzed an image created by the World Wildlife Fund that addresses rhino poaching and the exotic animal trade. There are two subjects in this image, the rhino and those within the rhino. The rhino is being captured by people, but at the same time, its horn is already being removed. I think that this represents the huge market for rhino horn. We are collecting as much horn as we can as fast as we can do it. This idea of our insatiable appetite for exotic animal products is also reinforced by how the horn is being removed. Somebody, with a chainsaw, is cutting off the horn below the base of it. This unsustainable practice will kill the animal. If the horn was cut above the base it would grow back and the rhino could continue on, but it is common for poachers to remove as much horn as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thomas Tymme s A Commentarie of John Caluine, vpon the first booke of Moses called Genesis also describes God s role in temptation as that of putting us to a serious triall in order to test faith (473). I can improve my monetary returns and feel better about myself and the people with whom I deal. I also learned that there are several ways to test my own intuition and approach. The course provided me with an opportunity to assess my instinctive bargainingstyle and provides suggestions for how to further develop my bargaining abilities. The negotiation exercises was a good way to cement several of the concepts from the book and lecture and gave me several opportunities to get to know my classmate more and test some new insights with them. Gas station exercise: my team shouldn t have been too worried about the other station s profits. We should only have been concerned about maximizing our own profits. Even though our profits depend on both our choices in pricing and the choices of the other station. However, our main concern should be our own profit picture. If the other team do well or do poorly, that shouldn t be a big concern of ours. You should simply do as well as you can to boost your own profits as much as you can. At the start of the game, we had a plan and actually documented the minimum amount we expected to make and wrote this down. Therefore, in terms of the Age, a revolution can be understood as the active and rapid act of capturing of this improvement of life by the common people. Under this framework it can be understood that there were several revolutions throughout the Age of Revolution, which all contributed to and were a result of the Age s burgeoning view. Two such revolutions essential to the Age were the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. These two provide the most abundant resources to understand the Age in that they both are revolutions powered by the everyday people. The French Revolution was a turning point for Europe from which there was no return. It set the mold for revolutions of the Age and showed just how deeply ingrained and powerful the ideals of the Age could be in the Western World.
