Essay on Russel Conwell Acres of Diamonds
Russel Conwell Acres of Diamonds
According to Russell Conwell s speech Acres of Diamonds, wealth is accessible to you no matter
who or where you are. The term acres of diamonds doesn t literally refer to acres of diamonds, but
is a metaphor used to express the belief that opportunities are endless if you just use your resources.
You should also be reasonably ambitious to attain your goals. A mans ambition to attain wealth
helps to make him a good man. Opportunities surround us in our everyday lives. It s just a matter of
being honest, trustworthy, and hard working. Conwell says Now then, I say again that the
opportunity to get rich, to attain unto great wealth, is here in Philadelphia now, within the reach of
almost every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the two previously mentioned stories, the mens love for money was what compelled them to sell
their posessions and go in search for their fortunes. These men wanted the money for themselves,
not for the good of the world, and in the end, faced their demise.
Despite Conwells experiences, his audience repeatedly tried to prove him wrong and noted how
awful it was that a Christian minister prefered to advise people to get rich rather than to preach
the gospel. But Conwell believed that to make money honestly was to preach the gospel and to
be poor was wrong. What the people did not understand was that a wealthy person can also be a
pious person. Conwell tells the people that they should have money and it is their Christian and
godly duty to do so. To be pious is to be carful of the duties owed by created beings to God; devout,
godly, religiousВ№. The people associated wealth with being dishonest, dishonerable, mean, and
contemptible. He told them that to think that to be pious you must be poor and awfully dirty is an
terrible misconception. He maked the distinction between money and honesty by saying that one
who associates having money with being dishonest, dishonorable, mean, and contemptible is the
one who has no money because

The Consequences Of Nuclear Energy And Nuclear Weapons
Mark Z. Jacobson once said Every dollar spent on nuclear is one less dollar spent on clean
renewable energy and one more dollar spent on making the world a comparatively dirtier and a
more dangerous place, because nuclear power and nuclear weapons go hand in hand. Nuclear
energy is caused when power plants split uraniumatoms inside a reactor in a process called fission.
At a nuclear energy facility, the heat from fission is used to produce steam, which spins a turbine to
generate electricity.
True, that if disposed of correctly nuclear could have no harm doesn t mean that there aren t
significant risks to it, However nuclear waste remains radioactive and is very hazardous to health
for thousands of years. Nuclear waste also causes problems such as slowly populating the land ,
air , water , and the human body, it is also contributing to Global Warming through CO2 emissions
from mining, manufacturing it, and etc..., also not to mention the fact that the storing is this waste
is very controversial after all these years. Many people may not realize nuclear energy and nuclear
weapons have been known to have direct correlation. The link between nuclear weapons and civil
nuclear power is often denied by the nuclear energy industry. Nuclear proliferation is the spread of
nuclear weapons and/or nuclear weapons technology, and the civil nuclear industry is more often
than not the main source of proliferation. Nuclear proliferation risks will be among us as long as
the civil and military nuclear industry continue to exist. All the steps of military nuclear energy
industry and the civil nuclear industry from uranium mining to reprocessing all the steps , the only
step in the military industry missing from the civil industry is the actual production of the nuclear
weapon. There are many lies being told in the industry such as saying the plutonium used in civil
nuclear power plants can t be used to make nuclear weapons weapons and that is not true because
reactor grade (civil) does explode just as well in nuclear bombs as weapons grade (military)
plutonium. Regardless, the commercial nuclear industry likes to state that civil nuclear energy has
no impact on nuclear proliferation. To advocate their

William Pitt Research Paper
Literature during the Eighteenth century helped shape and embody public opinion towards certain
political figures. This statement is particularly true in the examination of William Pitt 1st Earl of
Chatham and his Whig government, and the role literature had in evoking popular opinions
towards him and his party in the political classes. Literature in particular can be considered a good
barometer for understanding attitudes towards politics due to their intimate relationship. The
Eighteenth century saw a rise in a specific genre of literature, that was particularly focused on
engaging in the political discussions and debates of the time. This political literature became an
important form of critiquing and analysing certain political ideas and... Show more content on

By 1759 William Pitt had become a hugely popular figure due to his shepherding of British
military and imperial successes. He became a symbolic figure of Britain s military dominance
and growth into an imperial power. The success in the war had boosted Pitt s popularity,
increasing his importance in the Pitt Newcastle Government and further cementing his image as
Patriot King figure. Popular support for Pitt was reflected in the political literature and their
support of his achievements. In 1757 a political journal was published called The Constitution,
with an address to a great man that was dedicated directly to Pitt as the titular Great Man . This
journal represents an overt celebration of William Pitt, cannosing him as a significant and
celebrated figure, that is emblematic of British success. The journal is suggestive of the
increasing support given to Pitt during the late 1750 s, and his increasing role as a figure of
popular admiration from the political classes. During this period of Pitt s popularity, the more
positive aspects of Pitt s image were strengthened, specifically his image of the Great
Commoner. This image emphasised Pitt s supposed honesty and integrity, as well as connection
to the political classes. This image became particularly evident in the literature of the late 1750
s, as it strongly reinforced the popular understanding of his image. This can be seen in a
Broadside Ballad from 1763, named Excise A La Mode; or Sawney s Oeconomy. This ballad is
indicative of the literature of the late 1750 s and its portrayal of Pitt. This is the case because it
draws on the positive image of Pitt, that pervaded the late 1750 s. For example, in the ballad, Pitt
is described as a good peacemaker who charm(s) our allies. This description helps to maintain the
ideal of Pitt s magnanimity, as well as amplifying his charismatic

Lincoln In The Bardo
The novel Lincoln in The Bardo by George Saunders is labeled as a work of historical fiction on
its copyright page. However this book has many aspects of a biographical novel in it. While
William Lincoln is only one of the main characters the focus is on the importance for both him and
his father to move on from the tragedy of William s death. Biographical novels use historical
figures to tell a truth about society today and in some cases (usually children and teen forms)
emotional truth. In Lincoln in The Bardo the main focus of the novelis the idea of moving on from
tragedy. In the end of the novel there is also a small amount of focus on the idea of understanding
another person and what they have gone through.
The novel is a blend of historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Lincoln did go to William s grave to grieve, but we do not have the proof of him
holding William. In chapter XX of Lincoln in The Bardo President Lincoln is told to have held
William s body for almost ten minutes by the three main narrators Hans Vollman, Roger Bevins
III, and the Reverend Everly Thomas (58 Saunders). And this is what the novel is about.
Learning to work through one s grief by letting go and finding better ways to cope. In the novel
William is stuck in the bardo, which is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the
intermediate or astral state of the soul after death and before rebirth a sort of ghostly limbo.
Hans Vollman and Roger Bevins III are also going through heavy denial about their deaths,
which keeps them from moving on as well. They have been dead long enough and have
convinced each other of the fact that they are just sick in their sick boxes. It is in William
Lincoln though that we really see how good it is for these characters to move on. William in
trying to stay in the graveyard in this bardo state, declines in spirit health. On page 195 the
Reverend Everly Thomas describes William in this manner as real as the fading, webbed boy
breathing shallowly at my feet, banded down snugly across his chest like a captive of the wild
Indians. The reader had been warned at the beginning of the novel at how terrible it is for
children to stay in the bardo for long. William is choosing to stay stuck in this place of limbo
because he not only does not understand where he is, but his father also told William s remains
that they would be back. The other spirits know that for children it is better for them to move on
to the unknown and try to encourage him to it. William was almost convinced to move on until
President Lincoln visited his body and held it. He refuses to leave when there is still the

Spinal Cord Stimulation
Spinal Cord Stimulation Trial Information
WHAT IS A SPINAL CORD STIMULATION TRIAL?
A spinal cord stimulation trial is a test to see whether a spinal cord stimulator reduces your pain. A
spinal cord stimulator is a small device that is attached to your back. The stimulator has small wires
(leads) that connect it to your spinal cord. The stimulator sends electrical pulses through the leads
to the spinal cord. These electrical pulses block the nerve impulses that cause pain.
A trial period is usually 3 5 days, but this can vary among health care providers. After your trial
period, you and your health care provider will discuss whether a permanent spinal cord stimulator is
needed. This depends on whether the stimulator reduced your pain during

The Advantages Of Asexual And Sexual Devices
Both asexual and sexual reproduction results in offspring with [think of good topic sentence. . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .]. Asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information, and
sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation.
Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction that creates uniform offspring. Asexual reproduction
occurs mainly in single celled organisms (organisms with one cell), and in a few multicellular
organisms (an organism with more than one cell). Two examples of single celled organisms are
bacteria and amoeba. Bacteria is a single celled organism forming one of the three domains of life.
Amoeba is a single celled animal that catches food and moves about by extending fingerlike
projections of protoplasm. Asexual reproduction requires one parent, and the ... Show more content

One advantage of sexual reproduction is that it creates offspring with a high genetic variability.
This will increase the diversity of species and the ecosystem since the offspring is diverse. For
example, female lions give birth to about one to five cubs, and all the cubs are genetically
different. This will increase the diversity of lions. Whereas asexual reproduction produces
offspring that has the same genetics as its parent, which lowers the diversity rate of organisms.
Another advantage of sexual reproduction is better agriculture. This is because selective breeding
can apply to sexually produced organisms. Selective breeding when parent organisms are chosen
to mate, which produces more desirable and better plants and animals. An example of selective
breeding is corn. Corn used to be much smaller, and had fewer rows of kernels, however, farmers
saved kernels from good plants and planted them to create more desirable plants like corn, leading
better agriculture. Asexual organisms don t reproduce sexually, so they can t go through selective

The Road By Cormac Mccarthy, Ray Bradbury, And 1984
Dystopian fiction is an alternate society characterized by a focus on that which is contrary to the
author s ethos, portraying it as mass poverty, public mistrust, police state, or oppression. This
genre was chosen because it allows for readers to feel better and thankful for our society s current
state. The works that I used to investigate this genre were The Road by Cormac McCarthy,
Fahrenheit 451by Ray Bradbury, and 1984 by George Orwell. All of these books are categorized
in the dystopian genre but have very different symbols, styles, and implications. Each of these
novels have different styles because some include a society with overbearing rules, such as
Fahrenheit 451 and 1984, whereas The Road has virtually no society. Despite their differences,
the purpose of these novels is to demonstrate that the only thing strong enough to conquer a
corrupt and inhumane society is through true love and passion. Dystopian fiction first came
about in the early 1900 s and is read by many as political warnings. Many authors of dystopian
fiction explore at least one reason why things are the way the are in the novel, which is used as
an analogy for similar issues in the real world. One of the first well known dystopian novels was
We written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1921. It predicted a post apocalyptic future in which society
is entirely based on logic and modeled after mechanical systems. Shortly after came George Orwell
s 1984, a very well known book that is one of the books used

The Federalist Papers By John Jay
The Federalist Papers
This country and this people seem to have been made for each other, and it appears as if it was
the design of Providence that an inheritance so proper and convenient for a ban of brethren,
united to each other by the strongest of ties, should never be split into a number of unsocial,
jealous, and alien sovereignties. (Jay 1787) This was written by John Jay in one of a collection of
85 essays written by John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton known as The Federalist
Papers. (Henretta, Edwards, Self, 2012) The Federalist Papers were written during a time of
uncertainty, when a new nation was attempting to do what no other nation in the world had ever
done, set up a government of the people, by the people and for the people. These essays were
influential, well written and published at a juncture in history where they were needed the most.
The Federalists Papers were instrumental to the ratification of the U.S. Constitution and perhaps
some of the most important documents in U.S. national history for without the Federalists Papers,
our constitution and nation would not be what they are today. The end of the revolutionary war
with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783 meant the great experiment was really about to
begin. It really boiled down to a simple question, can man govern himself? A revolution occurred
against the most powerful empire in the world because the founding fathers believed the answer to
be yes . For this to

African Americans In Colorado Essay
The racial/ ethnic interaction between Anglos, Native Americans, and others shaped the history of
Colorado. In the beginnings of Colorado, Native Americans introduced buffalo robes/ pelts to
trade, eventually leading to the over hunting a near extinction of the animals. Later, in the 1920 s
1940 s, Hispanics of Denver, Colorado were strongly discriminated against by the Anglo,
prejudiced government. This created a cycle of poverty and gang violence. Another race, African
Americans, supported the conservative and liberal mix of politics current in Colorado by first
testing the waters in the early 1800 s by migrating and later proudly fighting for their rights in __.
In the beginnings of Colorado, Native Americans introduced buffalo robes/ pelts to trade, in time
this lead to the over hunting and near extinction of the animals. Buffalo was the Native Americans
primary source of food and survival necessities. They used bison pelts to make clothing, beds, and
shelter. They even used the hooves to make a type of glue to form weapons for themselves (Mills).
Once Anglos came to Colorado and found that they would need warm, thick material to make coats
for the harsh winters, buffalo pelts boomed as an essential and well sought after trading item. The
Indians also needed (and wanted) things that the Anglos had such as modern cooking equipment,
guns, tobacco, and whiskey (Mills). They believed that they were getting all the essential modern
tools that would make them as well off as

Factors Affecting Population Growth
According to the book, there are three main factors that influence population growth. The first
factor the book addresses is childhood mortality. Childhood mortality refers to the amount of
children who die before age five. According to a website called ourworldindata.com, the child
mortality rate in 2015 was around 4.3 percent. Childhood mortality can impact population growth
because if the mortality rateis high, the amount of childhood deaths would cause less population
growth. A decrease in childhood mortality could cause families to have smaller families since
there is a higher likelihood of their children surviving. Education is the second factor that impacts
population growth. According to the book, people who are educated tend to wait to have children
or get married due to their occupation or due to them working towards their occupation. This can
impact population growth by reducing the number of children a women has due to her getting
married older, having children when she is older, and dedicating time to work and children.
Women who live in uneducated areas tend to marry and have children around their teens, increases
the population yet also increasing poverty and lack of hygiene. The third and last factor is the lack
of access to contraceptives. According to the book, contraceptives tend to decrease the amount of
children a women has, allows more women to have children who survive the birthing process, and
reduces the amount of women who die in childbirth. This

Ode To A Grecian Urn By John Keats Essay
The Romantic Sentiments of Ode to a Grecian Urn. Employing the poetic style of ekphrasis,
John Keats uses his poem Ode to a Grecian Urn to study a separate work of art. Keats narrates the
poem from the perspective of one carefully studying a vase while pondering the depictions of
nature, love, and religious rites on its surface. His observations lead to to remark on the everlasting
nature of emotions evoked by the urn, as well as the beauty of the images it induces in one who
would observe it. These musings throughout the poem offer a strong indication of Romantic view
which Keats held. Romanticismplaced a heavy emphasis on the importance of emotion as a source
of true art and the value of imagination. Keats description in Ode... Show more content on

The love these individuals feel is For ever warm and still to be enjoy d (26). He claims that
happiness in the image is All breathing human passion far above, / that leaves a heart high
sorrowful and cloy d, / a burning forehead, and a parching tongue. (27 30). With human passion,
there will always exist negative consequences, from heartbreak to longing due to separation.
However, in this single image, frozen in time, these could never exist. Instead the single, cheerful
atmosphere will perpetually remain, and from it Keats is able to grow a larger scene with the
two lovers. Beyond just notions of love, Keats extends the same logic of the perpetuated emotions
to other sentiments. Frequently, a sense of intrigue or uncertainty is maintained within the poem.
All throughout, Keats poses many rhetorical questions. In examining one scene he asks What
men or gods are these? What maidens loth? (8). Although from following questions a general
picture can be formed of men pursuing women in a wild ecstacy (10), a dominating uncertainty
remains. Later, when studying a portrayal of a sacrifice of a cow, Keats poses more questions,
asking What little town by river or seashore / ... is empty of this folk this pious morn? (35 37), and
concludes thy streets for evermore / Will silent be (38 39).
Keats knows that he will never get an answer for his questions, as the artwork will never change.

Terracotta Warriors Research Paper
The Terracotta Warriors are thousands of individual hand crafted terracotta soldiers and horses.
They are lined up in rows, placed underground near China s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang s tomb.
The Warriors were made to accompany Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife, as he believed that they
could be animated. The Terracotta warriors are very significant to the Chinese culture as they show
in great detail, how the military was back then and the amazing craftsmanship of the ancient
Chinese.
The Terracotta armywas built in around 210 BCE and there are an estimated 8000 warriors,
chariots and horses, all suposedly serving Qin Shi Huang in his afterlife. The warriors were built to

the statues would become animated after he died. He ordered the project to start at an early age
of 13, even with an estimated 700,000 workers the warriors and tomb took around 40 years to

True Grit Coming Of Age Quotes
People do not give it credence that a fourteen year old girl could leave home and go off in the

The Filippino Street Children
The Filippino Street Children: A Constructivist and Behavioral Analysis Introduction: Right now
there are millions of children all over the world running around playing games of tag, engrossing
themselves in intense video games, or using their time to bury their noses in a book. Very few
of these children, and their parents for that matter, realize just how privileged they are to live in
communities here these activities are available and acceptable. In some areas of the world the
children live amongst the garbage, have never seen a video game, and struggle to make enough
money for survival. The problems lead to physical, sexual and substance abuse, criminal activity
and homelessness. The Philippines is one of these places. The issues related to street children are
some of the largest struggles of the Philippines; about 1.5 million adolescences survive on
handouts and trash (Cullen, 2005). They are often subject to violence from parents as well as
public officials. Frequently they come caught up in drug abuse and sales, prostitution, and other
illegal activities in an attempt to survive their conditions. Nutrition is a foreign concept as the
children struggle to find food of any type and in any condition. The nature and complexity of these
struggles are key components to understanding how these atrocities can be abated. From plentiful

What I Learned In My Writing Class
When I enrolled in this class, I was sure that it will influence the way I write and read. I have a
relatively large experience with academic writing and reading; still, I would have benefited even
from slight improvements in my approach, methods, and techniques I use for writing and reading
assignments. Because of this class my reading, writing, and thinking processes became more
efficient.
I knew that my reading process was not efficient for the academic purposes. Before this class, my
critical reading was more akin to my pleasure reading. Thus, I spent incredible amounts of time on

Though I have spent many years learning English, it is an ongoing process that requires a lot of
hard work. I was very glad to find out that the first four weeks of the course would be focused on
grammatical rules and sentence patterns. Because I never focused on the structure of my sentences,
I believe I wrote dull and flat texts. Moreover, my punctuation was terrible since I had no
understanding of English punctuation. But the lessons on the sentence structure turned my world
upside down: It was hard to believe that even simple sentences have such a great variety and can
turn your paper into something very interesting in the terms of structure. Practicing skill of
building effective sentences in the same essay was very helpful, for it allowed to focus purely on
the sentence and structure patterns rather than on the context. My writing improved since the
beginning of the semester and I became a more confident

It is a recognised certainty that nutrition is a fundamental requirement to sustain a healthy lifestyle

absorbed in the body and this physiological process is essential for homeostasis and ensuring
equilibrium is sustained within the body as without enough food and drink the body will not
function correctly (Edwards Thomas, 2009). This essay will provide information on folic acid and

In pregnancy the body needs to produce cells to help with the development and nourishment of
the growing fetus; it also helps to make red blood cells . During pregnancy, risks can be
associated with toxaemia, premature birth and haemorrhaging if there is no folic acid in the diet
(Youngson, 2005). Folic acid contributes to several major biological processes and these include
the combination of RNA, DNA and proteins. It is needed to help with the repair and replication of
DNA and the maintenance of the genome and it is also involved in the regulation of gene
expression (Hendler Rorvik, 2008).
Folate is a natural occurrence in foods such as beans and pulses (e.g. lentils and chickpeas),
leafy green vegetables, broccoli, spinach, tuna and oranges (Tiran, 2000). Some foods are also
fortified with folic acid such as cereals and bread. Late in the 1990 s United State scientists came
to the realisation that despite the availability of folic acid in supplements as well as foods
available in the supermarkets, people were still finding it a challenge to meet their daily folate
requirement; with this in mind the United States of America implemented the folate fortification
program (Latimes.com). For women of childbearing age, folic acid consumption needed to be
increased so in January of 1998 the United States food and drug administration authorised a folic
acid fortification of all products containing grain. The

A Comparison Of Louis Armstrong And Paul Desmond
Louis Armstrong and Paul Desmond
Louis Armstrong: He is known to The King of Jazz as Louis Satchmo. He was actually one of the
most outstanding personalities in the early jazz. He is believed to be the one defining jazz music.
The significance of jazz according to him is creation of a new something of an ancient, making. He
gave a helping hand in the creation plus the representation of a brand new element of a twist on the
popular music.
According to McClendon 2015, when most of us listen to the world contrasted leader, we tend to
think of a being which is extraordinary. A human being that is completely contrasting to the others.
We have seen and heard about very many leaders in the past decades but Louis Armstrongis a great
one. His leading of a great life of music was portrayed in diverse ways. He brought his own style
of music that actually became so loved and cherished around the entire globe. However, he was
born on August 4th, 1901 in the New Orleans. He made tremendous achievements in the course
of his life and in the course of doing what he was comfortable with, he became a leader of sound
mind cherished and respected by everybody despite the troublesome painful years he had while
still a young boy. Louis had a hard and painful childhood. His biological dad had just abandoned the
family when he was a very young small baby, left with no choice than to live with the grandmother
Josephine Armstrong.

The Definition Of A Freedom Fighter
With the presidential election looming, much has been in the news lately about terrorists groups
such as ISIS, the militia uprising in Oregon, and the fighting in the Middle East. With all of the
candidates spouting their opinions, it is hard to know what to believe. How is one to know if the
groups fighting in these areas are terrorists or freedom fighters? To fully understand, once must
first define all the terms involved in classifying groups as freedom fighters. Once these concepts
are defined, one can attempt to define what the term freedom fighter means and use that definition
as a basis for classifying groups as terrorists or freedom fighters. The classical definition of a
freedom fighter according to the Miriam Webster Dictionary is a person who takes part in a
resistance movementagainst an oppressive political or social establishment (Freedom Fighter).
Note that this definition does not state what type of resistance is involved: it does not require
the resistance to by of a violent nature. Perhaps the key word in this definition is oppression.
Typically, an oppressed people are different in some way than the majority of the people in a
nation. Though, sometimes, as in India during use of the caste system, the majority were the
oppressed at the mercy of the minority who held the power. Oppression occurs when the ruling
people use their power to ignore and/or abuse the basic civil rights of a people. It also occurs when
one group has privilege such that they

The Painting Reflection
The 2011 animated movie, The Painting, directed by Jean François Laguionie, offered interesting
thoughts on the debates about the existence of god, the perception of reality, and freewill. The
complexity of the paintings and painter is in parallel with our understanding of the world and god
or creator. It prompts a question though. Are we blind to our own reality never realizing that we are
just one paintingwithin another and clueless about what is beyond our own frame? While a final
answer to these debates was not necessarily given because no one can truly discover the answer, the
story did propose an attitude or mindset that we should adopt leading to a better understanding of
the issues at hand.
Many members of each caste, the Alldunns, Halfies, and Sketchies, simply accepted the way things
were and assumed the painter made everything a certain way for a reason. Some thought the painter
would return to finish his work; others cursed the painter for being so cruel as to leave work
unfinished and allow such inequality; yet, even others thought the painter would not return and did
not care about them. The Alldunns even used this idea to discriminate against those they deemed
incomplete and unworthy of joining them in the castle. In the painting of the war, the two armies
fought day after day because that was all they knew. The struggles and differences between the
castes and in the war painting illustrated inequality and evil that were nonsensical and eventually

Endocrine System And Non-Steroid Hormones

The endocrine system consists of a variety of glands and clusters of hormone secreting cells in
various organs throughout the body. These glands produce chemicals called hormones, which are
secreted directly into the bloodstream. They determine a number of things, including when you re
hungry, your weight, how you handle stress, and even how well you sleep. The body produces
many different hormones, which can either be classified as steroid or non steroid. Steroid
hormones are synthesized from cholesterol, including male and female sex hormones, as well as
aldosterone. Non steroid hormones, also known as protein based hormones, are synthesized from

Lymphatic Filariasis Research Paper
Lymphatic Filariasis Introduction Over 120 million people worldwide are affected by
lymphatic filariasis. This disease is caused by nematode worms, most of the cases being from a
species known as Wuchereria bancrofti, or just W. bancrofti. Those who experience the
conditions of the disease the worst are older individuals whom have lived in an endemic area for
an extended period of time. This is because of the long gestational period for the parasitic presence
to become prevalent by repeated mosquitobites and by the larva reproducing. (USAID, 2014) The
disease is commonly referred to as elephantiasis due to the symptom of lymphedema. (W.H.O.,
2015) Lymphdema causes the limbs to swell and become immobile, which stems from the lymph
vessels becoming blocked by larva nests. (M.C.S., 2014) Another common visible symptom is
genital swelling in men, known as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Egypt, a statue of Pharaoh Mentuhotep II dating to about 2000BC shows signs of what might
have been elephantiasis; a common symptom of lymphatic filariasis. Between 1588 and 1592,
Jan Hyugen Linschoten described the symptoms of lymphatic filariasis during a trip to the Indian
state of Goa. The first actual documented observation of larva in the blood stream was by Jean
Nicolas Demarquay, a French surgeon who extracted it from a hydrocele. A short time later, Otto
Henry Wucherer discovered the presence of microfilariae in urine. The connection between the two
discoveries and between microfilariae presence and elephantiasis was later discovered by Timothy
Lewis. In 1876, Joseph Bancroft documented the adult parasitic worm. Perhaps most importantly;
in the following year, Patrick Manson discovered microfilariae in mosquitos. This was the first
time mosquitos were found to carry diseases, and would not only affect studies in regard to
lymphatic filariasis, but other mosquito borne illnesses such as malaria. (Stanford University.edu,

Emily Dickinson s Use Of A Nontraditional Structure In...
Emily Dickinson s 320 illustrates her use of a nontraditional structure, featuring a closed sense
in quatrains that frequently rhyme. In the majority of her works, Dickinson sometimes follows
the pattern of writing the first and third lines of each stanza in iambic tetrameter and the second
and fourth lines in iambic trimeter, while at other times making the form intentionally choppy
and difficult to read. In 320 s first stanza, for example, she uses the trochee certain and winter ,
creating a rough sentence compared to her typical style. Following this excerpt, Dickinson
repeatedly makes use of rhetorical pauses throughout the poem, which expresses the poem s
troublesome setting. By combining these stylistic elements, Dickenson crafted a style that is
unique while also achieving her goal of immersing the audience in her writing. There is no way
to tell who is speaking in this poem. Dickinson generally wrote as if the narrator was somebody
parallel or close to herself; however, in 320, there are no signs of the narrator being Dickinson or
any of her other popular characters. The narrator seems to be speaking as if they are part of a
group, as the only pronouns mentioned are us and we . This us could be up for interpretation; it
could be a small group experiencing death or even the entire human population as a whole and
their view of God. Dickinson uses strong imagery in the first stanza. The reader imagines the
booming sounds of large cathedral organs and the way the bass of them shakes your soul. She adds
a negative connotation to these shakes by stating it oppresses the narrator. Following, Dickinson
uses the metaphor of a slant of light on a winter afternoon to the opening her internal pain. As the
slant of light opens, it is essentially opening up a seal of despair. Nothing external has affected the
body; however, the heartbreak from the pain the narrator is dealing with leaves behind marks on her
soul. She follows this theme through the entire poem that the slant of light has brought pain upon
her. Dickinson starts with a relatively positive tone. When stating There s a certain Slant of light
/ Winter Afternoons the reader has the visual of a small light shining through on a white surface.

With that, the ESPN salesforce dimensions focus more on quality over quantity. Specifically,
ESPN s reputability proves the focus on a qualified salesforce. ESPN s qualified salesforce is best
identified through their salesdepartment size, recruitment process, and individual qualities.
ESPN has many different departments, which handle four hundred affiliates. Amongst each
affiliate, there is an estimate of five to ten salespeople from ESPN that handle sales. Thus, there
are approximately four thousand salespeople under ESPN s sales department. Unlike its

Romanticism In British Literature
Romanticism is British Literature was never a real movement and was a word used to put the most
distinctive writers who thrived in the last years of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th
centuries into a group. The term Romantic literature was actually a little bit misleading since there
were no movements of romanticismback then. The writers back in that period did not call
themselves Romantic writers, not until August Wilhelm von Schlegel s Vienna lectures of 1808
through 1809 showed a vague difference between Classicism and Romanticism.
The examples of the French Revolution had an impact on the Romantic Movement in other ways.
Romanticism elevated the achievements of what it perceived as misunderstood heroic individuals
and artists that altered society and legitimized the individual imagination as a critical authority
which permitted freedom from classical notions of form in art. Other aspects of romanticism were
intertwined with Emotion, Lyric Poetry, and Self. Increased activity from the imagination was
achieved by more importance of the instincts and feelings of the authors. They generally called
more attention towards the emotion as it was a necessary add on to make logic and reason. When
this emphasis was added to the establishment of poetry, a very important transformation of focus
happened. Wordsworth s definition of all good poetry as the spontaneous overflow of powerful
feelings marks a turning point in literary history. By finding the best

especially in the aspect of film creation. Various adaptations of Mary Shelley s Frankensteinhas been
created, but the only motion picture that remains close to the novel is Kenneth Branagh s Mary
Shelley s Frankenstein (1994). The novel and film have made many details conspicuous for
comparison and contrast; details that related to the beginning, the monster s creation, and Elizabeth

scene, Mary Shelley spoke little about Frankenstein s physical experimentation and how it was

ending. Even though Elizabeth dies in both the novel and the film, Kenneth Branagh takes
Elizabeth s character further. He does this by allowing her to be reborn through Frankenstein s

For good reason, I believe Robinson wants the reader to reflect that when Richard Cory died, he
was probably a very lonely and sad man. A supporting fact of this would be the lack of
relationships in any form throughout the poem. With no lover, no family, and no friends, it
could be assumed as one factor in the decision making to end his life. It can also be assumed
Richard Cory appears to keep all of his emotions hidden from the rest of the world through his
everyday routine. (Richard Cory Analysis) I connect this as Richard Cory was living a lie every
day he was hiding his humanly need for relationships. Whenever Richard Cory went down town

unhappy and was going down town greeting the townspeople. This why Richard Cory went home

Pathos, Pros, And Cons And Uses Of The Hyundai Commercials

In the Honda commercial, a farmer tends to his sheep, that start singing as soon as the farmer
drives away. The Hyundai commercial is very comical, showing a town where everyone is Ryan
Reynolds to catch your attention. These commercials use pathos, ethos, and logos to sell their
product. Advertisements use many forms of persuasion to get people to buy their product. One of
these is pathos, which appeals to the emotions of the audience and evokes their feelings. In the
Honda commercial, one can see sheep in the pasture singing to Somebody to Love after the farmer
drives off in his new Honda Ridgeline. This is very humorous, considering sheep do not speak, let

which is also very amusing. The audience can see two women driving through a neighborhood,

Disadvantages Of Hacking
Introduction
Hacking in the world of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is defined as the
process of getting unauthorized access to the technical details of a computer such as, programs,
applications or the entire computer system. Hacking is performed to improve the system
capabilities or to manipulate its normal functions. People who are engaged in this practice are
known as Hackers (777, 777, 888, 888).
It is more likely that hacking is done for a harmful purpose which is not the case. So, why do
people hack? Hacking has two sides, it could be beneficial or harmful. Usually, hackers break a
computer system to get a valuable data (666, 666). For example, hackers could access a company
system to obtain its sensitive information and threat to spoil or delete them leaving the company

Voltaire s Candide As An Opportunity For Growth Or...
As humans, we have choices: To change, to stay the same, to work, to rest; each choice provides an
opportunity for growth or stagnation. Voltaire s Candide is a satire, originally published in 1759.
The enlightenment ideals which originated in the 17th century and continued into the 18th century
are highly prevalent in Candide. The work includes vehement criticism of nobility, philosophy,
religion, and basic human cruelty. The main criticism of Voltaire
s work is directed toward
philosophical optimism, a widely accepted idea at the time. Philosophical optimism is the
conviction that We live in the best of all possible worlds. Voltaire s writing is in line with the
philosophy stated in John Locke s Second Treatise of Civil Government on labor which is that
every man has a property in his own person: this nobody has any right to but himself. The labour
of his body, and the work of his hands, we may say, are properly his. Whatsoever then he
removes out of the state that nature hath provided, and left it in, he hath mixed his labour with,
and joined to it something that is his own, and thereby makes it his property, as Candide

Explanation: In this story it gives light to an imperative need for a change in the Army s
environmental operations in overseas combat operations. Due to the multiple, long period
deployments in a combat zone, it has caused Soldiers in the Army to become overstressed, that has
further lead to other more serious mental and physiological medical issues.

The One Child Policy And Gender Bias
Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care,
and education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to
education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in
comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender
bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the
United States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child
policy basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one
child policy existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents
favoring the malechild (Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to
as son preference and son preference is something that has continued in China among most parents
for centuries (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving
little or no opportunity for the femalechildren to progress educationally. This gender bias has
resulted in significant gender inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy
rate or in educational attainment between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and
son preference have led to the wide literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs
to change. If a

Correspondence 19 Summary
Dr. Boyd s first point in Correspondence 18 is a response to his father s criticism: Why does God
make it so difficult to believe in him? This is a question that has crossed my mind countless
times. Dr. Boyd s rebuttal to this criticism was to assert that God is difficult to believe in because,
if the opposite were true, we would be unable to love Him. This is Biblically correct; Proverbs 25:2
says that It is the glory of Godto conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings. It
appears as though God s prerogative is to remain hidden from us. It is much easier to argue a
hidden or deist god, than it is to purport that God concerns Himself with human affairs. As Einstein
said I believe in Spinoza s God who reveals himself... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boyd talks about how the Bible is basically reliable because of historical and archeological
corroboration. As far as being the inspired Word of God, he invoked numerous prophecies in the
Old Testament that foretold of events that wouldn t come to fruition until hundreds of years after
they were written. I would add that the Bible was preserved and copied better than any other
ancient document. There are minimal translation errors when comparing different fragments of the
Bible that were written hundreds of years apart. That doesn t conclusively prove that the Bible is
inspired, but it lends credence to the historical accuracy of the source material. Finally, in
Correspondence 20 Dr. Boyd discusses his father s skepticism in regard to the magic and violence
that is within the Bible. One quotation that I found particularly discouraging was when Dr. Boyd
was talking about the Garden of Eden and said Authors in biblical times were not as infatuated with
literal facts as modern authors tend to be. I understand that I would be doing Christianity a
disservice if I considered Greg Boyd (or any Biblical scholar) to be an infallible representation of
Christian beliefs and tenets, but I don t suspect that this statement is too

Causes Of Fred s Baseball Glove
Fred had a new baseball glove, but it caused nothing but trouble between him and his best friend,
Carl. Carl wanted Fred s baseball glove because it was leather with buckskin laces. Carl s glove was
polyester with nylon laces. Carl was filled with envy over Fred s glove. One day, Carl was invited
to visit Fred at his house. When Fred left the room to go wash his hands, Carl stole the glove from
the top of his dresser, and placed it in his backpack. When Carl got home, he buried Fred s glove in
the garden. The next day, when Fred asked Carl, Where is my glove? Carl said, I do not know,
Fred. Look in the baseball park. Later that week, Carl s mom Rachel was working in the backyard
garden, and she found Fred s glove in the tulip bed.

Bitzer Rhetorical Situation Analysis

October 8th, 2017
Ruff Life
In the Rhetorical Situation, Lloyd F. Bitzer argues that what makes a situation rhetorical is similar
to that which constitutes a moral action as he writes that, an act is moral because it is an act
performed in a situation of a certain kind; similarly, a work is rhetorical because it is a response to
a situation of a certain kind . (3) By defining the rhetorical situation in this way, Bitzer further
contends that rhetoric is a means to altering reality . (4) It is through the use of discourse that one
is capable of changing reality through thought and action . (4) While Bitzer notes that there are
more parameters for a situation to qualify as being rhetorical, he ... Show more content on

Charleston Animal Society is involved with non profit organizations that are working to make our

And just like any other important phenomenon, non profiteering is a socially sustained reality. That
is, it is made up of real life people in real life situations, working together to create and sustain an
organization and hopefully working together to create positive change. Charleston Animal Society
utilizes both its website and its television advertisements to encourage people to participate in the
organization either by donating or adopting.
Charleston Animal Society s website s organization, content, and layout work primarily to entice

The Social Impact Of A Protest At Kent State Shootings
Another event that eroded support in the war and US Government occured during a protest at Kent
State University. During a protest on May 4, 1970, twenty nine National Guardsmen gathered at the
university to oversee a Vietnam War protest. In the midst of the protest, the National Guardsmen
fired into the crowd of protesters killing four people in the process (Gordon Page 35). This event
sparked an enormous uprising from the public and the event triggered a nationwide student strike
that forced hundreds of colleges and universities to close (Lewis). This strike had a huge social
impact and through the constant strikes and protests that followed the shootings caused the US
Government to lose the trust, respect, and support of many American citizens (Gordon Page 35).
The Kent State shootingswere also able to reach the international stage through the abundance of
news broadcasts and songs following the shooting. Ohio, a famous song by Crosby, Stills, Nash,
and Young, focuses heavily on the Vietnam War and the Kent State shootings with lyrics stating,
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming. We re finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming.
Four dead in Ohio (Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young) as a direct reference to the Kent State
tragedy. A tin soldier is a toy soldier, mindlessly controlled by its owner (Songfacts Staff). Neil
Young was implying with these lyrics that the National Guard was mindlessly following orders
from Nixon. This song became wildly popular and is

It is quite unfortunate that most companies management only deals with the administrative,
marketing and sales, and the production part of the company business, but felt the IT operations
should be left solely to the IT personnel. In the long run, according to this chapter, the information
security aspect of the company will suffer and remain underdeveloped because of lack of attention.
However, if there is any security breach or attack, the top management will be the first point of
contact. The top management will be held accountable and responsible for not adhering to the
business practices.
This chapter emphasizes on the need for management to assign responsibilities and also to make
sure that adequate funds are available for the kick off of security programs and its implementation.
Management role and support cannot be overemphasized when it comes to the issue of security
management.
This chapter also addresses the way decisions on security issue should be channeled. This chapter
advised that security program should be driven in a top down approach. In this case, the top
management will drive, , support and give directions for the security program, which will then be
passed over to the middle management staff and then to member staffs.
Also, this chapter illustrates how the control measure should be designed to make sure that access
are well managed and monitored. With this, the chapter went further explaining the three types of

How Is Offred And The Commander
Offred and the Commander The Commander represents the Government and the System in the
novel. The most effective way in which the novel brought out gender bias was Offred s narration
of how the Gilead society claims her body as property of the Government s. She clearly states
that she is part of a collectively owned resource, We are containers, it s only the insides of our
bodies that are important. The outside can become hard and wrinkled for all they care, like the
shell of a nut. (Atwood 150). Handmaids are no more than vessels, no more than passageways
that facilitate the existence of a baby and Offred s empty womb is being watched by the
government. It is the central object which is more real than her. Yet Offred realized the
powerlessness of the Commander as a part of the system. He does not have the ability He
wouldn t be able to intervene, to save me; the transgressions of women in the household, whether
Martha or Handmaid, are supposed to be under the jurisdiction of the Wives alone. (Atwood 162)
This also allows the readers a glimpse into the power and infiltration of Mayday against the Eyes .
The readers are able to see the powerlessness and the inefficiency of the State though the
Commander s impotence and restriction placed on him by the State itself. Offred s hope relies on

The Southern white man says it is impossible for a voluntary alliance to exist between a white
woman and a colored man, and therefore, the act of an alliance is a proof of force. Even though
they know that the acts had been completely consensual, the white males continued this butchery of
the blacks. Anything that could be thought up, even if it lacked truth or evidence, was used as
excuses for these continued forms of slavery. Ida also writes about the young white women from
the North that left their lives behind to go to the south and educate the newly emancipated blacks.
These women were treated just as the blacks, no respect or

Since the issue of obesity remains prevalent, there are leading experts in the field of health

the methods that have been working towards becoming a solution was the development of obesity

Americans have become used to the normalcy of a complicated lifestyle, and have lost values
that were once embraced. There have been people who have tried to slow the increasing obesity
rates, but none are willing to put in the effort and time to stop the epidemic. The hesitation to
putting a stop of increasing obesity rates is evident in the ever increasing obesity rates. There
are too few people who are willing to make the choice to fight against the issue of obesity. It has
become more and more normal to the American people. As Emerson wrote in his piece Self

make choices that will benefit them. In that same way, there are choices that people can make that

Compare And Contrast Soccer Vs Sports Essay
In the 2014 soccer World Cup finals 18.2 million worldwide viewers tuned in for it. In comparison
the 2013 baseball World Series game 6 (when the Red Sox won the series) had 19.2 worldwide
viewers. The World Series overall has had lower television rating compared to the past, but soccer
can hardly be considered the reason for that. Baseballhas been voted America s 2nd favorite sport
(behind football) and soccer was voted America s 4th favorite sport. Therefore, baseball is better
and more popular than soccer.
Baseball had been the most popular sport in America all the way up to 1985 when football took

Unfortunately in 1985 football took that over. But still baseball maintained to stay America s
most popular sport for 27 years when soccer was never America s most popular sport. And I think
27 is better than 0. Also, even if baseball isn t the most popular sport right now, it s still 2 spaces
ahead of soccer.
Baseball is not going to lose it s popularity to soccer anytime soon though. I already explained
that I would rather pay to watch baseball than to watch soccer for free, but another reason I think
that is because soccer is a new sport to America since the MLS was only founded in 1993, so that
means more people have been growing up watching baseball teams from their area instead of
soccer teams and that means their kids are watching baseball and I think it will take a few
generations just to shake that off.
It is hard to find a reason why baseball would be less of a popular sport than soccer, (I bet some
people could come up with some reasons) but I think overall you can t beat most of the facts.
Maybe it s because I play baseball and I like to watch it, or maybe because of all the websites that I
looked at saying baseball is more popular than soccer, but I do think that baseball is better and
more popular than

Unspoken Love
There is nothing more innocent than love from a child. Children come into this world with no
expectations other than to be loved. No, they do not understand the meaning of love, but they feel it
every time a gentle hand holds or caresses their tender flesh. In the poem Those Winter Sundays, by
Robert Hayden, the boy speaks of how his father shows his love by the physical things he does for
his family. The dedication and commitment of hard work through the week the boy s father does
to provide for them is unrecognized by outsiders. with cracked hands that ached from labor in the

The boys father paid no mind to what the plaster and mortar had to offer each morning. He just
knew he had a job to do.
Another small gesture of nonverbal affection came that morning when the boy discovered his
father had polished his good shoes: besides warming the house, the father polished my good shoes
as well. (12). The motivation behind it must have been to give the boy the satisfaction of looking
his best on a winter Sunday morning.
The young boy who speaks of his past, turned grown man, gives reverence: What did I know,
what did I know / of loves austere and lonely offices? (13 14). The boy at that moment realized
what was being taken for granted. It is hard to see the true meaning of sacrifice unless the one
doing the sacrificing is forthcoming in his reasons. The loved ones around us sometimes get
swept up in the fact that it is easier to receive than to give. The boy who now was a man, finally
realized how much his father genuinely did love and care for him and his family. It probably
was not until the boy became a man and had his own family, did he realize what his father meant
by doing all the labor some tasks he performed. The unspoken love of a father shown everyday by
every stroke of the fire and every shoe shined from a boy to a

  • 2. Essay on Russel Conwell Acres of Diamonds Russel Conwell Acres of Diamonds According to Russell Conwell s speech Acres of Diamonds, wealth is accessible to you no matter who or where you are. The term acres of diamonds doesn t literally refer to acres of diamonds, but is a metaphor used to express the belief that opportunities are endless if you just use your resources. You should also be reasonably ambitious to attain your goals. A mans ambition to attain wealth helps to make him a good man. Opportunities surround us in our everyday lives. It s just a matter of being honest, trustworthy, and hard working. Conwell says Now then, I say again that the opportunity to get rich, to attain unto great wealth, is here in Philadelphia now, within the reach of almost every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the two previously mentioned stories, the mens love for money was what compelled them to sell their posessions and go in search for their fortunes. These men wanted the money for themselves, not for the good of the world, and in the end, faced their demise. Despite Conwells experiences, his audience repeatedly tried to prove him wrong and noted how awful it was that a Christian minister prefered to advise people to get rich rather than to preach the gospel. But Conwell believed that to make money honestly was to preach the gospel and to be poor was wrong. What the people did not understand was that a wealthy person can also be a pious person. Conwell tells the people that they should have money and it is their Christian and godly duty to do so. To be pious is to be carful of the duties owed by created beings to God; devout, godly, religiousВ№. The people associated wealth with being dishonest, dishonerable, mean, and contemptible. He told them that to think that to be pious you must be poor and awfully dirty is an terrible misconception. He maked the distinction between money and honesty by saying that one who associates having money with being dishonest, dishonorable, mean, and contemptible is the one who has no money because ... • 3. The Consequences Of Nuclear Energy And Nuclear Weapons Mark Z. Jacobson once said Every dollar spent on nuclear is one less dollar spent on clean renewable energy and one more dollar spent on making the world a comparatively dirtier and a more dangerous place, because nuclear power and nuclear weapons go hand in hand. Nuclear energy is caused when power plants split uraniumatoms inside a reactor in a process called fission. At a nuclear energy facility, the heat from fission is used to produce steam, which spins a turbine to generate electricity. True, that if disposed of correctly nuclear could have no harm doesn t mean that there aren t significant risks to it, However nuclear waste remains radioactive and is very hazardous to health for thousands of years. Nuclear waste also causes problems such as slowly populating the land , air , water , and the human body, it is also contributing to Global Warming through CO2 emissions from mining, manufacturing it, and etc..., also not to mention the fact that the storing is this waste is very controversial after all these years. Many people may not realize nuclear energy and nuclear weapons have been known to have direct correlation. The link between nuclear weapons and civil nuclear power is often denied by the nuclear energy industry. Nuclear proliferation is the spread of nuclear weapons and/or nuclear weapons technology, and the civil nuclear industry is more often than not the main source of proliferation. Nuclear proliferation risks will be among us as long as the civil and military nuclear industry continue to exist. All the steps of military nuclear energy industry and the civil nuclear industry from uranium mining to reprocessing all the steps , the only step in the military industry missing from the civil industry is the actual production of the nuclear weapon. There are many lies being told in the industry such as saying the plutonium used in civil nuclear power plants can t be used to make nuclear weapons weapons and that is not true because reactor grade (civil) does explode just as well in nuclear bombs as weapons grade (military) plutonium. Regardless, the commercial nuclear industry likes to state that civil nuclear energy has no impact on nuclear proliferation. To advocate their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. William Pitt Research Paper Literature during the Eighteenth century helped shape and embody public opinion towards certain political figures. This statement is particularly true in the examination of William Pitt 1st Earl of Chatham and his Whig government, and the role literature had in evoking popular opinions towards him and his party in the political classes. Literature in particular can be considered a good barometer for understanding attitudes towards politics due to their intimate relationship. The Eighteenth century saw a rise in a specific genre of literature, that was particularly focused on engaging in the political discussions and debates of the time. This political literature became an important form of critiquing and analysing certain political ideas and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By 1759 William Pitt had become a hugely popular figure due to his shepherding of British military and imperial successes. He became a symbolic figure of Britain s military dominance and growth into an imperial power. The success in the war had boosted Pitt s popularity, increasing his importance in the Pitt Newcastle Government and further cementing his image as Patriot King figure. Popular support for Pitt was reflected in the political literature and their support of his achievements. In 1757 a political journal was published called The Constitution, with an address to a great man that was dedicated directly to Pitt as the titular Great Man . This journal represents an overt celebration of William Pitt, cannosing him as a significant and celebrated figure, that is emblematic of British success. The journal is suggestive of the increasing support given to Pitt during the late 1750 s, and his increasing role as a figure of popular admiration from the political classes. During this period of Pitt s popularity, the more positive aspects of Pitt s image were strengthened, specifically his image of the Great Commoner. This image emphasised Pitt s supposed honesty and integrity, as well as connection to the political classes. This image became particularly evident in the literature of the late 1750 s, as it strongly reinforced the popular understanding of his image. This can be seen in a Broadside Ballad from 1763, named Excise A La Mode; or Sawney s Oeconomy. This ballad is indicative of the literature of the late 1750 s and its portrayal of Pitt. This is the case because it draws on the positive image of Pitt, that pervaded the late 1750 s. For example, in the ballad, Pitt is described as a good peacemaker who charm(s) our allies. This description helps to maintain the ideal of Pitt s magnanimity, as well as amplifying his charismatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Lincoln In The Bardo The novel Lincoln in The Bardo by George Saunders is labeled as a work of historical fiction on its copyright page. However this book has many aspects of a biographical novel in it. While William Lincoln is only one of the main characters the focus is on the importance for both him and his father to move on from the tragedy of William s death. Biographical novels use historical figures to tell a truth about society today and in some cases (usually children and teen forms) emotional truth. In Lincoln in The Bardo the main focus of the novelis the idea of moving on from tragedy. In the end of the novel there is also a small amount of focus on the idea of understanding another person and what they have gone through. The novel is a blend of historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... President Lincoln did go to William s grave to grieve, but we do not have the proof of him holding William. In chapter XX of Lincoln in The Bardo President Lincoln is told to have held William s body for almost ten minutes by the three main narrators Hans Vollman, Roger Bevins III, and the Reverend Everly Thomas (58 Saunders). And this is what the novel is about. Learning to work through one s grief by letting go and finding better ways to cope. In the novel William is stuck in the bardo, which is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the intermediate or astral state of the soul after death and before rebirth a sort of ghostly limbo. Hans Vollman and Roger Bevins III are also going through heavy denial about their deaths, which keeps them from moving on as well. They have been dead long enough and have convinced each other of the fact that they are just sick in their sick boxes. It is in William Lincoln though that we really see how good it is for these characters to move on. William in trying to stay in the graveyard in this bardo state, declines in spirit health. On page 195 the Reverend Everly Thomas describes William in this manner as real as the fading, webbed boy breathing shallowly at my feet, banded down snugly across his chest like a captive of the wild Indians. The reader had been warned at the beginning of the novel at how terrible it is for children to stay in the bardo for long. William is choosing to stay stuck in this place of limbo because he not only does not understand where he is, but his father also told William s remains that they would be back. The other spirits know that for children it is better for them to move on to the unknown and try to encourage him to it. William was almost convinced to move on until President Lincoln visited his body and held it. He refuses to leave when there is still the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Spinal Cord Stimulation Spinal Cord Stimulation Trial Information WHAT IS A SPINAL CORD STIMULATION TRIAL? A spinal cord stimulation trial is a test to see whether a spinal cord stimulator reduces your pain. A spinal cord stimulator is a small device that is attached to your back. The stimulator has small wires (leads) that connect it to your spinal cord. The stimulator sends electrical pulses through the leads to the spinal cord. These electrical pulses block the nerve impulses that cause pain. A trial period is usually 3 5 days, but this can vary among health care providers. After your trial period, you and your health care provider will discuss whether a permanent spinal cord stimulator is needed. This depends on whether the stimulator reduced your pain during ... • 7. The Advantages Of Asexual And Sexual Devices Both asexual and sexual reproduction results in offspring with [think of good topic sentence. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .]. Asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information, and sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation. Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction that creates uniform offspring. Asexual reproduction occurs mainly in single celled organisms (organisms with one cell), and in a few multicellular organisms (an organism with more than one cell). Two examples of single celled organisms are bacteria and amoeba. Bacteria is a single celled organism forming one of the three domains of life. Amoeba is a single celled animal that catches food and moves about by extending fingerlike projections of protoplasm. Asexual reproduction requires one parent, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One advantage of sexual reproduction is that it creates offspring with a high genetic variability. This will increase the diversity of species and the ecosystem since the offspring is diverse. For example, female lions give birth to about one to five cubs, and all the cubs are genetically different. This will increase the diversity of lions. Whereas asexual reproduction produces offspring that has the same genetics as its parent, which lowers the diversity rate of organisms. Another advantage of sexual reproduction is better agriculture. This is because selective breeding can apply to sexually produced organisms. Selective breeding when parent organisms are chosen to mate, which produces more desirable and better plants and animals. An example of selective breeding is corn. Corn used to be much smaller, and had fewer rows of kernels, however, farmers saved kernels from good plants and planted them to create more desirable plants like corn, leading better agriculture. Asexual organisms don t reproduce sexually, so they can t go through selective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Road By Cormac Mccarthy, Ray Bradbury, And 1984 Dystopian fiction is an alternate society characterized by a focus on that which is contrary to the author s ethos, portraying it as mass poverty, public mistrust, police state, or oppression. This genre was chosen because it allows for readers to feel better and thankful for our society s current state. The works that I used to investigate this genre were The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Fahrenheit 451by Ray Bradbury, and 1984 by George Orwell. All of these books are categorized in the dystopian genre but have very different symbols, styles, and implications. Each of these novels have different styles because some include a society with overbearing rules, such as Fahrenheit 451 and 1984, whereas The Road has virtually no society. Despite their differences, the purpose of these novels is to demonstrate that the only thing strong enough to conquer a corrupt and inhumane society is through true love and passion. Dystopian fiction first came about in the early 1900 s and is read by many as political warnings. Many authors of dystopian fiction explore at least one reason why things are the way the are in the novel, which is used as an analogy for similar issues in the real world. One of the first well known dystopian novels was We written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1921. It predicted a post apocalyptic future in which society is entirely based on logic and modeled after mechanical systems. Shortly after came George Orwell s 1984, a very well known book that is one of the books used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Federalist Papers By John Jay The Federalist Papers This country and this people seem to have been made for each other, and it appears as if it was the design of Providence that an inheritance so proper and convenient for a ban of brethren, united to each other by the strongest of ties, should never be split into a number of unsocial, jealous, and alien sovereignties. (Jay 1787) This was written by John Jay in one of a collection of 85 essays written by John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton known as The Federalist Papers. (Henretta, Edwards, Self, 2012) The Federalist Papers were written during a time of uncertainty, when a new nation was attempting to do what no other nation in the world had ever done, set up a government of the people, by the people and for the people. These essays were influential, well written and published at a juncture in history where they were needed the most. The Federalists Papers were instrumental to the ratification of the U.S. Constitution and perhaps some of the most important documents in U.S. national history for without the Federalists Papers, our constitution and nation would not be what they are today. The end of the revolutionary war with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783 meant the great experiment was really about to begin. It really boiled down to a simple question, can man govern himself? A revolution occurred against the most powerful empire in the world because the founding fathers believed the answer to be yes . They even used the hooves to make a type of glue to form weapons for themselves (Mills). Once Anglos came to Colorado and found that they would need warm, thick material to make coats for the harsh winters, buffalo pelts boomed as an essential and well sought after trading item. • 11. Factors Affecting Population Growth According to the book, there are three main factors that influence population growth. The first factor the book addresses is childhood mortality. Childhood mortality refers to the amount of children who die before age five. According to a website called ourworldindata.com, the child mortality rate in 2015 was around 4.3 percent. Childhood mortality can impact population growth because if the mortality rateis high, the amount of childhood deaths would cause less population growth. A decrease in childhood mortality could cause families to have smaller families since there is a higher likelihood of their children surviving. Education is the second factor that impacts population growth. According to the book, people who are educated tend to wait to have children or get married due to their occupation or due to them working towards their occupation. This can impact population growth by reducing the number of children a women has due to her getting married older, having children when she is older, and dedicating time to work and children. Women who live in uneducated areas tend to marry and have children around their teens, increases the population yet also increasing poverty and lack of hygiene. The third and last factor is the lack of access to contraceptives. • 12. Ode To A Grecian Urn By John Keats Essay The Romantic Sentiments of Ode to a Grecian Urn. Employing the poetic style of ekphrasis, John Keats uses his poem Ode to a Grecian Urn to study a separate work of art. Keats narrates the poem from the perspective of one carefully studying a vase while pondering the depictions of nature, love, and religious rites on its surface. His observations lead to to remark on the everlasting nature of emotions evoked by the urn, as well as the beauty of the images it induces in one who would observe it. With human passion, there will always exist negative consequences, from heartbreak to longing due to separation. However, in this single image, frozen in time, these could never exist. Instead the single, cheerful atmosphere will perpetually remain, and from it Keats is able to grow a larger scene with the two lovers. Beyond just notions of love, Keats extends the same logic of the perpetuated emotions to other sentiments. Frequently, a sense of intrigue or uncertainty is maintained within the poem. All throughout, Keats poses many rhetorical questions. In examining one scene he asks What men or gods are these? What maidens loth? (8). Although from following questions a general picture can be formed of men pursuing women in a wild ecstacy (10), a dominating uncertainty remains. Later, when studying a portrayal of a sacrifice of a cow, Keats poses more questions, asking What little town by river or seashore / ... is empty of this folk this pious morn? During pregnancy, risks can be associated with toxaemia, premature birth and haemorrhaging if there is no folic acid in the diet (Youngson, 2005). Folic acid contributes to several major biological processes and these include the combination of RNA, DNA and proteins. It is needed to help with the repair and replication of DNA and the maintenance of the genome and it is also involved in the regulation of gene expression (Hendler Rorvik, 2008). Folate is a natural occurrence in foods such as beans and pulses (e.g. lentils and chickpeas), leafy green vegetables, broccoli, spinach, tuna and oranges (Tiran, 2000). Some foods are also fortified with folic acid such as cereals and bread. Late in the 1990 s United State scientists came to the realisation that despite the availability of folic acid in supplements as well as foods available in the supermarkets, people were still finding it a challenge to meet their daily folate requirement; with this in mind the United States of America implemented the folate fortification program (Latimes.com). For women of childbearing age, folic acid consumption needed to be increased so in January of 1998 the United States food and drug administration authorised a folic acid fortification of all products containing grain. With all of the candidates spouting their opinions, it is hard to know what to believe. How is one to know if the groups fighting in these areas are terrorists or freedom fighters? To fully understand, once must first define all the terms involved in classifying groups as freedom fighters. Once these concepts are defined, one can attempt to define what the term freedom fighter means and use that definition as a basis for classifying groups as terrorists or freedom fighters. The classical definition of a freedom fighter according to the Miriam Webster Dictionary is a person who takes part in a resistance movementagainst an oppressive political or social establishment (Freedom Fighter). Note that this definition does not state what type of resistance is involved: it does not require the resistance to by of a violent nature. Perhaps the key word in this definition is oppression. The Painting Reflection The 2011 animated movie, The Painting, directed by Jean FranГ§ois Laguionie, offered interesting thoughts on the debates about the existence of god, the perception of reality, and freewill. The complexity of the paintings and painter is in parallel with our understanding of the world and god or creator. It prompts a question though. Are we blind to our own reality never realizing that we are just one paintingwithin another and clueless about what is beyond our own frame? While a final answer to these debates was not necessarily given because no one can truly discover the answer, the story did propose an attitude or mindset that we should adopt leading to a better understanding of the issues at hand. Many members of each caste, the Alldunns, Halfies, and Sketchies, simply accepted the way things were and assumed the painter made everything a certain way for a reason. Some thought the painter would return to finish his work; others cursed the painter for being so cruel as to leave work unfinished and allow such inequality; yet, even others thought the painter would not return and did not care about them. Those who experience the conditions of the disease the worst are older individuals whom have lived in an endemic area for an extended period of time. • 30. Emily Dickinson s Use Of A Nontraditional Structure In... Emily Dickinson s 320 illustrates her use of a nontraditional structure, featuring a closed sense in quatrains that frequently rhyme. In the majority of her works, Dickinson sometimes follows the pattern of writing the first and third lines of each stanza in iambic tetrameter and the second and fourth lines in iambic trimeter, while at other times making the form intentionally choppy and difficult to read. In 320 s first stanza, for example, she uses the trochee certain and winter , creating a rough sentence compared to her typical style. Following this excerpt, Dickinson repeatedly makes use of rhetorical pauses throughout the poem, which expresses the poem s troublesome setting. By combining these stylistic elements, Dickenson crafted a style that is unique while also achieving her goal of immersing the audience in her writing. There is no way to tell who is speaking in this poem. Dickinson generally wrote as if the narrator was somebody parallel or close to herself; however, in 320, there are no signs of the narrator being Dickinson or any of her other popular characters. The narrator seems to be speaking as if they are part of a group, as the only pronouns mentioned are us and we . This us could be up for interpretation; it could be a small group experiencing death or even the entire human population as a whole and their view of God. Dickinson uses strong imagery in the first stanza. The reader imagines the booming sounds of large cathedral organs and the way the bass of them shakes your soul. She adds a negative connotation to these shakes by stating it oppresses the narrator. Following, Dickinson uses the metaphor of a slant of light on a winter afternoon to the opening her internal pain. As the slant of light opens, it is essentially opening up a seal of despair. Nothing external has affected the body; however, the heartbreak from the pain the narrator is dealing with leaves behind marks on her soul. She follows this theme through the entire poem that the slant of light has brought pain upon her. Dickinson starts with a relatively positive tone. When stating There s a certain Slant of light / Winter Afternoons the reader has the visual of a small light shining through on a white surface. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Thought Of My Paradise Being Scary Reflective essay The thought of my paradise being scary The warm stuffy air, the smell of sweat, the noise of crying children made my ears ring constantly, squashed in the middle with no room to put my arms on a side rest, at neither side of me and the strong sun burning my eyes. By now you may have wondered where I was, In fact I was 35,000 feet high travelling on a busy airline heading to North Africa. That was two years ago. However in July 2015, the thought of going to Tunisia would seem to most people as a stupid or even a dangerous idea. As we drove out into the country, thousands of stars glistened in the sky, quite different to the view I had at home in Scotland where they would be often hidden by a cloudy night sky. ESPN s qualified salesforce is best identified through their salesdepartment size, recruitment process, and individual qualities. • 34. Romanticism In British Literature Romanticism is British Literature was never a real movement and was a word used to put the most distinctive writers who thrived in the last years of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th centuries into a group. The term Romantic literature was actually a little bit misleading since there were no movements of romanticismback then. The writers back in that period did not call themselves Romantic writers, not until August Wilhelm von Schlegel s Vienna lectures of 1808 through 1809 showed a vague difference between Classicism and Romanticism. The examples of the French Revolution had an impact on the Romantic Movement in other ways. Romanticism elevated the achievements of what it perceived as misunderstood heroic individuals and artists that altered society and legitimized the individual imagination as a critical authority which permitted freedom from classical notions of form in art. Other aspects of romanticism were intertwined with Emotion, Lyric Poetry, and Self. Increased activity from the imagination was achieved by more importance of the instincts and feelings of the authors. They generally called more attention towards the emotion as it was a necessary add on to make logic and reason. When this emphasis was added to the establishment of poetry, a very important transformation of focus happened. Wordsworth s definition of all good poetry as the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings marks a turning point in literary history. By finding the best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Various adaptations of Mary Shelley s Frankensteinhas been created, but the only motion picture that remains close to the novel is Kenneth Branagh s Mary Shelley s Frankenstein (1994). The novel and film have made many details conspicuous for comparison and contrast; details that related to the beginning, the monster s creation, and Elizabeth s death and rebirth. In the poem, the people of the town seemed to be unhappy and resent what they thought was a humdrum life. A supporting fact of this would be the lack of relationships in any form throughout the poem. It can also be assumed Richard Cory appears to keep all of his emotions hidden from the rest of the world through his everyday routine. The Hyundai commercial is very comical, showing a town where everyone is Ryan Reynolds to catch your attention. These commercials use pathos, ethos, and logos to sell their product. Advertisements use many forms of persuasion to get people to buy their product. One of these is pathos, which appeals to the emotions of the audience and evokes their feelings. • 40. Voltaire s Candide As An Opportunity For Growth Or... As humans, we have choices: To change, to stay the same, to work, to rest; each choice provides an opportunity for growth or stagnation. Voltaire s Candide is a satire, originally published in 1759. The enlightenment ideals which originated in the 17th century and continued into the 18th century are highly prevalent in Candide. The work includes vehement criticism of nobility, philosophy, religion, and basic human cruelty. The main criticism of Voltaire s work is directed toward philosophical optimism, a widely accepted idea at the time. Philosophical optimism is the conviction that We live in the best of all possible worlds. Voltaire s writing is in line with the philosophy stated in John Locke s Second Treatise of Civil Government on labor which is that every man has a property in his own person: this nobody has any right to but himself. The labour of his body, and the work of his hands, we may say, are properly his. Whatsoever then he removes out of the state that nature hath provided, and left it in, he hath mixed his labour with, and joined to it something that is his own, and thereby makes it his property, as Candide encourages free will and labor in order to achieve a desired end. Voltaire s Candide employs the motifs of resurrection, hypocrisy, and crime in order to amplify the negative aspects of human nature, and in doing so, rejects the idea that we live in the best of all possible worlds and encourages the exercise of free will as well as making the choice ... • 42. The One Child Policy And Gender Bias Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care, and education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the malechild (Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the femalechildren to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a question that has crossed my mind countless times. Dr. Boyd s rebuttal to this criticism was to assert that God is difficult to believe in because, if the opposite were true, we would be unable to love Him. This is Biblically correct; Proverbs 25:2 says that It is the glory of Godto conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings. As far as being the inspired Word of God, he invoked numerous prophecies in the Old Testament that foretold of events that wouldn t come to fruition until hundreds of years after they were written. I would add that the Bible was preserved and copied better than any other ancient document. There are minimal translation errors when comparing different fragments of the Bible that were written hundreds of years apart. That doesn t conclusively prove that the Bible is inspired, but it lends credence to the historical accuracy of the source material. Finally, in Correspondence 20 Dr. Boyd discusses his father s skepticism in regard to the magic and violence that is within the Bible. One quotation that I found particularly discouraging was when Dr. Boyd was talking about the Garden of Eden and said Authors in biblical times were not as infatuated with literal facts as modern authors tend to be. • 52. Compare And Contrast Soccer Vs Sports Essay In the 2014 soccer World Cup finals 18.2 million worldwide viewers tuned in for it. In comparison the 2013 baseball World Series game 6 (when the Red Sox won the series) had 19.2 worldwide viewers. The World Series overall has had lower television rating compared to the past, but soccer can hardly be considered the reason for that. Baseballhas been voted America s 2nd favorite sport (behind football) and soccer was voted America s 4th favorite sport. Therefore, baseball is better and more popular than soccer. Baseball had been the most popular sport in America all the way up to 1985 when football took over. So for most of the 20th century is was America s favorite sport. Some of my opinions are that baseball is better than soccer is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately in 1985 football took that over. But still baseball maintained to stay America s most popular sport for 27 years when soccer was never America s most popular sport. And I think 27 is better than 0. Also, even if baseball isn t the most popular sport right now, it s still 2 spaces ahead of soccer. Baseball is not going to lose it s popularity to soccer anytime soon though. I already explained that I would rather pay to watch baseball than to watch soccer for free, but another reason I think that is because soccer is a new sport to America since the MLS was only founded in 1993, so that means more people have been growing up watching baseball teams from their area instead of soccer teams and that means their kids are watching baseball and I think it will take a few generations just to shake that off. It is hard to find a reason why baseball would be less of a popular sport than soccer, (I bet some people could come up with some reasons) but I think overall you can t beat most of the facts. Maybe it s because I play baseball and I like to watch it, or maybe because of all the websites that I looked at saying baseball is more popular than soccer, but I do think that baseball is better and more popular than ... • 53. Unspoken Love Unspoken Love There is nothing more innocent than love from a child. Children come into this world with no expectations other than to be loved. No, they do not understand the meaning of love, but they feel it every time a gentle hand holds or caresses their tender flesh. In the poem Those Winter Sundays, by Robert Hayden, the boy speaks of how his father shows his love by the physical things he does for his family. The dedication and commitment of hard work through the week the boy s father does to provide for them is unrecognized by outsiders. with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. The boys father paid no mind to what the plaster and mortar had to offer each morning. He just knew he had a job to do. Another small gesture of nonverbal affection came that morning when the boy discovered his father had polished his good shoes: besides warming the house, the father polished my good shoes as well. (12). The motivation behind it must have been to give the boy the satisfaction of looking his best on a winter Sunday morning. The young boy who speaks of his past, turned grown man, gives reverence: What did I know, what did I know / of loves austere and lonely offices? (13 14). The boy at that moment realized what was being taken for granted. It is hard to see the true meaning of sacrifice unless the one doing the sacrificing is forthcoming in his reasons. The loved ones around us sometimes get swept up in the fact that it is easier to receive than to give. The boy who now was a man, finally realized how much his father genuinely did love and care for him and his family. It probably was not until the boy became a man and had his own family, did he realize what his father meant by doing all the labor some tasks he performed.
