How Did The Royal Navy Affect Canada
The Royal Canadian Navy has impacted the Canada and the rest of the world in many different
ways. The Royal Canadian Navy was extremely important for Canada, and for the rest of the
world, in fact. It helped shape Canada to what it is now. Firstly, The Royal Canadian Navy helped
shape Canada in the First World War. The Royal Canadian Navy
managed to help defend Canada,
and helped shape Canada into the beginning of what it was becoming. The Royal Canadian Navy
defended Canada s harbours, and allowed for civilians in Canada to be safe. This all led to a
feeling of National Identity, as Canada had defended itself. Also, when Britain had first demanded
that the ships from Canada should go to Britain to merge with Britain s Navy, Canada managed to
resist that order and use it s own ships by itself. Also, Canada managed to succeed in some battles
that Britain hadn t, and this showed that Canada was different from Britain, Canada s mother
country. Along with that, Canadians began to feel a sense of identity, like Canada was truly
becoming a country, instead of just any old British colony.
Between the time of the First world war and the Second World War, the Royal Canadian Navy was
more of a symbol of National pride, as it had played a part in the first world war. However, it still
helped deter other invaders and inside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second World War, the Royal Canadian Navy and it s multiple successes allowed for
Canada to continue developing a sense of identity. Also, the Royal Canadian Navy became a
source of national pride, as it had carried out a vital ware in the Battle of Atlantic, guarding a huge
amount of merchant ships and a huge amount of merchandise. Along with all of that, in the second
world war, the RCN helped continue the separation from Britain. Canada, for once, didn t join the
war as soon as Britain joined. Canada postponed the joining of the war 10 days after

Ancient Greek Theater
Have you ever just wanted to kill your parents? Perhaps they are not letting you order a seventh
slice of cheese pizza at Chuck E. Cheese s, or not letting you hang out with that dreamy hunk Bryan
on Saturday. For Oedipus, killing his parents was not something petty he threatened when he got
too worked up, but rather his fate. This suspenseful and masterful plot, conceived by the legendary
playwright Sophocles, was one of the many groundbreaking works to come out of fifth century BC
Greece. Works of ancient Greek theater, particularly Oedipusthe King, embodied the spirit of
innovation that fifth century BC Athens was known for.
The fifth century BC in Athens, aptly known as the Golden Age, was a time of great achievements

For a long time, only one actor was used, and often times the play s author himself would
perform. However, probably due to demand on a single actor s physique and voice, two actors
were introduced. Sophocles finally introduced a third actor, but three was the most Greek plays
ever employed (Ley 25). Reminiscent of the dithyrambs from which they originated, Greek plays
included a chorus of anywhere from twelve to twenty four members who would provide poetic
interludes and narrations (Ley 22).
Theatric spectacle in Greece was not an everyday commodity. In fact, plays were only performed
once a year, at the Dionysia (Knox xx). For each of three days, sunrise to sunset, playgoers
would sit through three tragedies, a more lighthearted and whimsical satyr play, and a comedy.
The tragedies and the satyr play of the day would all be by the same poet, while the comedy was
by a different playwright (Knox xx). At the conclusion of the festival, awards would be given to
the tragedians by a panel of judges. Historians have no record on whether or not one of Simon
Cowell s early ancestors was on the panel.
Said to have often been awarded first prize, sometimes second, but never third in the Dionysia,
Sophocles is one of the most renowned and influential playwrights of not only his time, but of all
time (Ley 35). Born in 496 BC, just at the dawn of the fifth century BC, Sophocles prospered as a

The Desecration Of The Ecclesiastical Congregation Essay
For a religion that professes a conviction for love, peace, and understanding, Christianity, during its
early stages, was met with a great deal of maliciousness, turbulence, and misconceptions. While
Christianity was growing, the Roman Empire witnessed several attempts to stop the spread of it.
Unfortunately, the persecution of Christians was common during the first through third centuries; a
clear indicator that much of Rome and the pagan societies within its boundaries decided to deal
with Christianityin the most extreme and horrific way possible. These instances of severe
aggression towards Christians were often sporadic and local. One of the communities that oversaw
the expulsion of the Christians within their ranks was the town of Lyons in Gaul. The description
of the desecration of the ecclesiastical congregation in this area is documented in a letter written by
the churches located nearby to their contemporaries in Asia Minor. It details the tortures of those
that proclaimed the faith and what they were submitted to. Young and old were imprisoned, beaten,
grilled, mauled by animals, and much more. But what could cause the pagan majority to inflict such
gory damage to the seemingly peaceful religion? The same letter condemning these actions also
provides an answer. Although it is slightly ambiguous as to what sparked the outburst, it hints the
possible reasons on why they were targeted. What started out as misconceptions grew into fear, and
then when the Christians

What is Confict Transformation
Conflict transformation explains that rather then getting rid of the conflict (expression or
disagreement), it seeks to work at the problem from the inside out (Lederach, 1995). In this conflict
stated above the root of the conflict was when the customer did not retain her information and
software due to the suggestion given of performing a factory reset her computer. This problem
could have been resolved when the customer first came in the store and inquired about this issue.
The sale representative could/should have told the customer to backup her data and then suggested
a reset, even better the salesrepresentative could have done it for the customer. In saying this HP
should have also informed the customer that such things can occur when factory resetting a device.
Conflict Transformation is also reliant on a moral decision that are made on the spot and
understanding that not all conflicts are going to be all right and that faith may played a major
role in the end result (Lederach, 1995). We can see that the first impression that the customer
received and was directed to HP was an incorrect moral decision that was made on the spot. Due
to this decision it lead to frustration and a lengthy process to resolve for all parties. This gave the
customer a wrong impression of what both companies are like and may never shop with us again.
Another conflict resolution method that could have been used to handle this conflict is the interest
based relational (IBR) approach

Adam Lanza and Sandy Hook Elementary
How could one deranged man voluntarily walk into an elementary school and open fire on children
who haven t even had all their teeth come in yet? Newtown, Connecticut is like any other small
suburban town; quiet, quaint and safe. That was until a twenty four year old sociopath (Alexander,
Barrett, Donnelly, Swaine), by the name of Adam Lanza, put this charming town on the map, and
not for a decent notable reason. Sandy HookElementary School educates students grades
kindergarten through fifth and Lanza forced his way into the kindergarten and first grade level
rooms. Friday, December 14, 2012 will forever be a date not necessarily marked on our
calendars, but in our hearts. While millions of Americans continued their normal routines,
innocent children s lives, as well as a handful of heroic teachers, were taken away in a matter of
seconds, since each victim was shot three to eleven times, according to medical examiner, H.
Wayne Carver (Circa Part 4). Superintendent Janet Robinson commented, A lot of children are
alive today because of actions the teachers took. (Circa Part 10) A total of twenty six individuals
were tragically murdered because why? That answer will never be answered since Lanza
committed suicide at the scene as policewere on their way, which leaves no closure for the victims

Ezekiel s Vision And Prophetic Declaration Of A New Temple
Introduction Ezekiel s vision and prophetic declaration of a new temple is among the most
debatable text within the Old Testament. In the twenty fifth year of Ezekiel s exile, God
instructed him to look and listen carefully by paying close attention to everything that he was
shown. Not only was he supposed to see, hear and grasp, he also had to provide this information
to Israel (Ez 40:4) . The vision was to provide hope, a spiritual renewal and a future depiction of
Israel s restoration.
Although the prophet Ezekiel, in chapters 40 48, delineated an imaginative depiction of a future
temple, ancient and modern scholars view the text as problematic and devise exceptional challenges
in its interpretation. Both scholars and theologians endeavor ... Show more content on

Understanding biblical prophecy will help to dispel most questions pertaining to who the text was
written for and for what manner, eschatological suppositions, and present and future application.
Secondly, it is important to understand biblical prophecy and Scripture so that a connection can be
drawn between the Old and New Testament, and how it relates to Christ and his impending return.
Many parishioners desire to comprehend what will take place during the end times, obtain a
clearer picture of how the Millennial kingdom will look, and what role will they assume as a
Christian. Being able to put the pieces in a logical sequence will help them to understand those

Marine Corps Boot Camp
I thought completing Marine Corps boot camp was my most cherished accomplishment,
completing boot camp merely stood in the shadows of my last work up for my last deployment.
I was holding the Bravo Squad Leader position. At this point in my Marine Corps career I
obtained three combat oriented M.O.S. or jobs; however, there was little to no preparation for
what I got myself into. There are two culminating events at what we call Combined Arms
Exercise or CAX, the first one is solely for the Alpha squad leader in every platoon and the last
is for the entire company of Marines which consist of about 200. Again I was no stranger to
leading people because I was also a Martial Arts Instructor for the Marine Corps, but it was still not
enough. Fox 10 Alpha is the range that honestly and humbly tested my grit and my mental capacity.
This range, designed to test 8 year experienced veterans, consisted of the platoon firing 25 mm
cannons, 81 mm mortars, and 8 machine guns over our heads while we overtake and clear three

The Victorian Er Collin s Challenging Traditional Gender...
The Victorian Era: Collin s Challenging Traditional Gender Roles In 1868, British author Wilkie
Collins wrote what is now famously known as one of the first full length detective stories, The
Moonstone. Within this text, he explores and transcends his writing style, as he created an
atmosphere full of suspense and gothic tradition by making use of two genres famous in the
Victorian Era (Ayton, 2). As Collins managed to challenge the roles of men and women within The
Moonstone, he ultimately attempts to reverse genders by creating a story of conflict, where the
women are essentially in charge. As many genderstereotypes are expressed within The Moonstone
through the different narrators of the novel, almost all of them become discredited as we are
introduced to the other characters. By making use of the characters like Betteredge, Lady
Verinder, and finally Rachel Verinder, Collins novel proves to break society s barrier of expected
roles for men and women within the Victorian Era. During the Victorian period, men and women s
roles became more sharply defined than at any time in history. This concept of roles, became
extremely significant within Wilkie Collins The Moonstone (1868), as he incorporated the issues
seen during that era, with the roles and expectations of the women in his novel. Because many of
the women seen throughout Collins novel are more assertive than one would expect from a
Victorian novelist, Collins shows women acting forcefully on their own, which

Neuroenhancing Drugs Analysis
In a society where quantity of work overpowers quality of work, there is no wonder why
neuroenhancing drugs such as Adderall and Ritalin are on the rise of consumption. As more people
adopt the idea that these drugs are cognitively beneficial; the more they secretly use them for non
medical reasons. Margaret Talbot, a writer for The New Yorker, looks more into this problem in her
article, From Brain Gain: The Underground World of Neuroenhancing Drugs . Throughout this
article Talbot focuses on a new trend of drug use, such as Adderall and Ritalin, for non medical
intentions. She focuses mainly on the increase of drug use by scholars and public intellectuals

Night Owl Analysis
Bay Area locals, Guy Fox, deliver a feel good album, Night Owl, that could possibly sum up the
direction of this past summer s sound, alongside with a good look into the future of new music, as
the seasons change. Indie rockers Peter Granquist (vocals, drums, percussion), Nate Witherbee
(vocals, synthesizer, guitar, piano), Greg Waters (guitar, saxophones, synthesizer) and Charlie
Moore (vocals, bass, synthesizer, organ) experiment with synths, sweet melodies, and a distinct
tone that has the ability to immortalize feelings flawlessly. Night Owl offers different moods and
feelings throughout the album, orchestrated by playing with a simple recipe of sounds, presented
in a new light each time, such as the first two tracks. Antique Furniture sets the tone and has the
right amount of horns, and funky attitude, that is softened with a persistent synth. One of the
greatest intros on the album would be for the track, Mind s Eyes. This track is an instant mood
lifter, that gets you moving with a catchy guitar riff, and a solid bass line that gives the song
support. Based on the guitar riff, the ideal direction of the song would be of a higher, and lighter

Steinbeck did an amazing job describing each character to show their differences. George Milton

similar in some aspects. They are migrant worker that go to different plantations just trying to

smart. George has to be the leader always; he has to be a step ahead just in case something goes
wrong. He is the provider, because without George, Lennie would not survive. George knows that,
which puts a tremendous amount of pressure and stress on George which he talks about how life
would be without Lennie. Without Lennie, George would be lonely and in a way Lennie motivates

An Example Of A And A Neurocognitive Disorders And How...
When studying abnormal psychology, we have learned about a variety of neurodevelopmental
and neurocognitive disorders and how they affect personality and behavior. In this paper I will
discuss an example of both a neurodevelopmental and a neurocognitive disorder. Within each of
these disorders I will provide behavioral criteria, incidence rates, causes and treatments options
for each of the disorders. The first disorder I am going to discuss is the neurodevelopmental
disorder, Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome has always been fascinating to be as to its causes
and its effects on people. Down Syndrome is congenital disorder resulting from a chromosome
defect. Human s have 23 pairs of chromosomes giving us a total of 46 chromosomes. When a
person has Down Syndrome, they have 2 copies of chromosome 21, as opposed to the normal 1
copy of it. People who have Down Syndrome still have 23 pairs of chromosomes but, with an
additional copy of chromosome 21, they have a total of 47 chromosomes. This additional genetic
material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down
syndrome (What is Down Syndrome, 2012). People who have from Down Syndrome will display
both physical and cognitive symptoms ranging from mild to sever depending on the person.
Physical symptoms of people with Down Syndrome can include; low muscle tone, small stature,
flattened facial profile, wide hands with short fingers, and an upward slant in eyes. Cognitive

Sin, Consequences And Redemption In Le Morte DArthur
The Sin, Consequences, and Redemption of Sir Lancelot Sir Lancelot is the dominant figure in Le
Morte D Arthur who presents us with the theme of sin and redemption. Sir Agravaine and Sir
Mordred expose the courtly romance or otherwise adulterous affair between Sir Lancelot and Queen
Guenever. This sets in motion the conflicts and other events leading up to the death of Sir Lancelot
and many other noteworthy characters. Sir Lancelot betrays both King Arthurand Queen Guenever.
If he is truly a noble character as Sir Gawaine, Sir Gareth, and Sir Gaheris describe, would he
have involved himself in such a treacherous act? Sir Agravaine says, I marvel that we all be not
ashamed both to see and to know how Sir Launcelot lieth daily and nightly by the queen, and all
we know it so; and it is shamefully suffered of us all, that we all should suffer so noble a king as
King Arthur is so to be shamed (Location 12810). Sir Lancelot s betrayal raises opposition
between the knights and breaks up that which should remain united. His betrayal reaches beyond
the king and queen. Thus, it is not a surprise that the consequences of his sin affect the lives of so
many. Now, Sir Agravaine and Sir Mordredplot to find Sir Lancelot and Queen Guenever alone
together, while the king is away. The king warns Sir Agravaine and Sir Mordred, ...he will fight

The Unites States and The People s Republic of China have been ever growing superpowers on

American Society And Ugandan Society
I stepped off the plane and the smell of burning trash immediately flooded my nostrils. The
pungent smell permeated the air. Driving in the absence of lane lines, crosswalks, or any sense of
organization made the eleven hour bus ride from the airport to my final destination all the more
calamitous and fearsome. However, the most shocking of all in this initial experience of a new
culture, was seeing vast amounts abandoned children. The biggest contrast between American
society and Ugandan society is the difference in the value of children. In America, parents
generally highly value their children and are willing to make sacrifices them. For children in Uganda
, the story is quite different; they are exploited, abused, and viewed as burdens. The adverse effects
of military occupation in Uganda can be traced back to the beginning of colonization. European
countries like Britain, Belgium, and France all rushed into Africaat the end of the 19th Century
trying to get their slice of Africa. Some nations were worse than others, but the two common
themes that tied African imperialism together were racism and exploitation. For decades, the
Ugandan people were under rulers that exploited them and treated them as if they could not be
trusted in society. The torn society of Uganda has been affected by years, even decades, of war
and militarized occupation. They face a corrupt government, broken economy, and execrable
poverty. Military occupation of land is a powerful tool

A Study At The Library Alone Essay
The main argument of this paper is that most people are socialized to study at a specific spot.
We will be focusing on people who come to study at the library alone. Most people become
comfortable at a specific space in the library because of a general habitus of finding a space that
is considered their own place to study at. In Becoming a firefighter, Matthew Desmond describes
a general habitus as a system of dispositions and ways about and acting in the world that is
constituted early on in life (Desmond, Ethnograhy, 391). Humans are disposed to studying in
the same secluded spot because we take ownership of the space. Charles Horton Cooley writes in
The looking glass self that if we think of a secluded part of the woods as ours , it is because we
think, also that others do not go there (Cooley, The Presentation of Self in Everday Life ,32).
People often think of their usual study space as theirs. Therefore, when entering the library, they
often head straight for their space. When I was writing this paper, it was harder for me to
separate my habits from other people`s and just sticking to my observations. I also struggled with
identifying a phenomenon because many of the behaviors displayed would be considered normal
behaviors. After reading Desmond`s theory on habitism in Becoming a firefighter, I came to the
conclusion that they were normal because at Bard we are socialized to act a certain way. I believe
that the strongest aspect of my paper is how I analyze the

Investigating The Specific Surface Of Clay And The Key...
Essay on Summary of two papers published to measure the specific surface of clay and the key
procedures involved.
Paper 1: Specific Surface: Determination and relevance
Authors: J. C. Santamarina, K. A. Klein, Y. H. Wang and E. Prencke
According to this paper, there are two methods used to determine the specific surface of clays:
1.Gas Adsorption (Dry conditions).
2.Absorption of molecules from solution onto a solid surface (Aqueous suspensions).
In addition to these, specific surface can also be calculated using known thermo dynamic properties,
microscopy, diffusiveness of X Rays, etc. But the paper focusses on the two methods mentioned
earlier.

Experimental Theory, State Of The Art, And Economics
The Fischer Tropsch (FT) process is a part of the larger Gas to Liquids technology. The purpose
of the FT process is to convert syngas, which is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, to
liquid hydrocarbon fuels. Syngas for FT can be coal, natural gas, or biomass derived, which
opens several pathways for how FT can be industrialized. Since its creation, the FT process has
continuously been researched and commercialized, but it remains an unpopular pathway to obtain
liquid fuels. Ongoing development of the process is primarily due to the value and promise of the
FT products. This paper will give an overview of the FT process with a focus on describing the
process, experimental theory, state of the art, and economics.

2.1 Reactions and Products
The FT process or FT synthesis is a set of catalytic processes for converting synthesis gas (syngas,
carbon monoxide hydrogen and/or other gases mixture) into liquid hydrocarbons. [2]
The reactions in the FT process are generally described as the following:
Alkanes: (2n + 1)H2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n+2 + nH2O(1)
Alkenes: 2nH2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n + nH2O(2)
Oxygenates: 2nH2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n + 2O + (n 1)H2O(3)
Water Gas Shift: CO + H2O ⇔ CO2 + H2 (4)
The reaction stated before can be achieved with the help provided by the catalysts. The catalysts
that can be used in this process are varied. The preferred catalysts are the metals that have electron
configuration of d7 (although not required) [4]. These includes (1) Fe (Iron) = [Ar] 3d6 4s2, (2)
Co (Cobalt) = [Ar] 3d7 4s2, (3) Ni (Nickel) = [Ar] 4s2 3d8, (4) Mo (Molybdenum) = [Kr] 4d5 5s1,
(5) Ru (Ruthenium) = [Kr] 4d7 5s1. (6) Rh (Rhodium) = [Kr] 4d8 5s1, (7) W (Tungsten) = [Xe]
4f14 5d4 6s2, (8) Other platinum group noble metals. [5]
In real life, catalysts considered for FT synthesis are based on transition metals of iron, cobalt,
nickel and ruthenium. Among these catalysts, it is generally known that nickel (Ni) tends to
promote methane formation, as in a methanation process; thus generally it is not desirable. Iron
(Fe) is relatively low cost and has a higher water gas shift activity, and is therefore more suitable for
a lower hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio (H2/CO) syngas

The hit blockbuster movie, The Blind Side transmits the message that we take so much in life for
granted. Michael Oher was a homeless adolescent which has never had a bed before . Therefore,
he is grateful that the Touhy s brought him into their life and adopted him. One of the themes is
the need to take action. Human action is seen as a crucial element in the film as Leigh Anne takes
action in helping Michael. He also listens and honours Leigh Anne on and off the field in order for
his benefit. The action which Leigh Anne adopts [changes] that boy s life.

The Impact Of NCSA And The Native Corporation System On...
In considering how Natives have been treated in American history, it can be surmised that
NCSA and the Native corporation system have been good for Alaska Natives. For the most part,
ANCSA and the Native corporation system have had a positive impact on Alaska Natives. For
example, in that era of American history, ANCSA was the largest land claim settlement. And for
another example, the Native corporation system was set up in a way, that it safeguarded the land
and cash settlement, so it would profit future generations of Alaska Natives and nonnatives as
well. Nevertheless, ANCSA and the Native corporation system have had a negative impact as
well. Such as, ANCSA was not seen as a good deal for all the Alaskan Natives. Because ANCSA
caused confusion over governing structures of the tribes, many Natives believed that ANCSA made
their tribes weak. Furthermore, during their first twenty years, the Alaska Native regional
corporations endured huge profits losses in their effort to parlay control of their land, their natural
resources, and their capital. They lost $250 million between 1974 and 1991 by not including their

addition, during the 1990s, additional new statistics demonstrates that the corporations radically

Therefore, it can be concluded that for the most part, the positive impact of ANCSA and the Native

Anne Elliot Persuasion Essay
Our heroine of Jane Austen s Persuasion, Anne Elliot, is one of the greatest, and most appealing,
woman presented in all of Jane Austen s novels. We are introduced to the novel where Anne Elliot,
eight years after breaking her engagement to Captain Wentworth, has a developed unique character
as Austen s female heroine: she is the daughter of a bankrupt baronet, a 27 year old spinster, an
introvert, and an easy victim to persuasion. Such qualities would not make Anne a marriageable
young lady, but they do not define Anne s whole well being. Without even realizing it, Anne Elliot
turns herself into becoming one of the most charming women in the novelthrough what she already
possesses in her character.
The Regency era of England shows how considerate it was women to accomplish many qualities to
deem herself a worthy in her beauty, etiquette, and talents. Comparing Anne to all the other eligible
women in the novel, she would rank very low. Elizabeth is the beautiful sister ... Show more content

Literature Review On Customer Satisfaction
Literature review:
Customer satisfaction has been a famous topic in marketing practice and study research since
Cardozo s (1965) earlyl study of customer effort, demands and satisfaction. In spite of many try to
measure and explain customer satisfaction, there still does not show to be a accord regarding its
explanation (Giese and Cote, 2000). Customer satisfaction is typically outline as a old used
estimate judgment concerning a specific product or service (Gundersen, Heide and Olsson, 1996).
It is the answer of an estimate process that against pre purchase requirements with perceptions of
performance during and after the consuming know how (Oliver, 1980).

Zeithaml (1987) defines perceived quality as the consumer s judgment about an entity s overall
excellence or superiority . Stevens and et al (1995) describe it as, perceived service quality is a
function of the interaction among three independent variables: normative expectations, predictive
expectations, and actual service quality. The lower the expectations the consumers have about what
should happen, the better their perceptions of the actual service. And the higher their expectations
about what will happen, the better their perceptions of the actual service . Whereas, Oliver (1981)
gives the definition of satisfaction as, it is the highlighted psychological state resulting when the
emotion surrounding contadict expectations is coupled with the consumer s prior feelings about
the consumption experience (p.27).
The model is derived from the satisfaction literature that, contrary to the value literature, defines
customer satisfaction as the primary and direct link to outcome measures (e.g., Anderson and

trying to convince us that her name is a terrible name, which is built up of negativity and bad
history. She state that she was named after her great grandmother, who was born in the Chinese

lead to her feeling sad and lonely all her life. Esperanza specifies that her name sound beautiful

The Articles Of Confederation And The United States
The Articles of Confederation were the written document that established the functions of the
national government of the United States after it declared independence from Great Britain. The
Articles provided a system for the Continental Congress to direct the American Revolutionary
War, conduct diplomacy with Europe and deal with territorial issues and Native American
relations. The articles were supposed to be a legislative body serving as the nation s executive
rather than a parliament. It had full power over foreign affairs and questions of war and peace, it
could decide disputes between the states, and it had authority over coinage, the postal service, and
Indian affairs as well as the western territories. Unfortunately, the weakness of the government
created by the Articles became a matter of concern for the American nation. The articles had no
courts and no power to enforce its resolutions and ordinances. It also had no power to levy taxes
and had to rely on requisitions from the states, which state legislatures could ignore. The articles
didn t have an executive or judicial branch of government, nor did it have an administrative head of
government, and there were no federal courts (Shi Tindall, 2013, P.239). America had to change
from the articles of confederationto a constitutional government, to strengthen its government.

Images of the Nude Male in European Art Essay
The human body, especially the nude male figure, has been a subject of art since the first
scratching appeared on cave walls. Stick figures with phalluses denoted the male, procreation and
dominance. Archeologists have found evidences proving that the male nude appeared in Egypt in
the early Dynastic periods and in early Mesopotamia four thousand years ago.
The Greek made the nude into art, and we, the Americans, made it into something commonly
referred to as pornography. Until today, nude is still a major subject in art that everyone would
have seen a few times, either in display cases of a museum or in greater numbers of male
underwear ads. Myself being a boy of the old capital of Vietnam, I grew up with such statues in the

In Greek culture, the image of Apollo was believed an archetypal idea for male physical beauty.
Unsurprisingly, his female counterpart was Venus. The statue was found in Rome during the
15th century, and you can see the pose is repeatedly used in painting and sculpture over
centuries. Many fashion designers are favoring this pose, languid leaner , exists in classical art
alongside more heroic models of male beauty (Bordo 406). Apollo stands there solidly, with left
hand raising high; his body projects strength, solidity; he s no male waif (Bordo 392). He calmly
looks straight at you as if daring you to offend him. And of course, his penis is invisible, a symbol
of malehood. Unlike the Romans, the Greek had no problem with getting naked. They did not

Nori Seaweed Essay
INTRODUCTION
An intertidal community is made up of a very diverse and populated group of organisms and
species. Rocky intertidal zones are located on shore lines. They are found on sandy or rocky
beaches. Intertidal communities are known as tidal pools that are covered by water during high
tide and vulnerable to air at low tide. These communities can be very complex and overcrowded
areas. The species that are present are Nori Seaweed, Black Pine, Coral Weed, Mussel, Acorn
Barnacle, Goose Neck Barnacle, Whelk, Chiton, Starfish, and Green Crab. Nori Seaweed is the
weakest competitor in the sessile consumers. The sessile organisms are permanently located on
rocks and don t move. The barnacles and mussel dominate over all the sessile organisms. The
starfish feeds mainly off the mussel and is the specie that governs the whole intertidal zone. When
the green crab is added they dominate over the starfish and they can sometimes cause destruction
among the entire ecosystem. Green crab feed off of barnacles, whelk, mussels, and many other
species. The algae produce their own food. The filter feeders are consumers but extract particles
out of the water to eat. Most of the species feed off each other. ... Show more content on

Summary Of A History Of The World In 6 Glasses
Every day we drink beverages without even stopping to think of the influence they have, in A
History of the World in 6 Glasses Tom Standage explores the idea that not only do beverages
have an impact on our diet they have shaped the world we know today. The book takes you
through world history chronologically and relates each time period to a different drink. The 6
drinks or glasses as referred to in the title are beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. Beer
corresponds with the agricultural revolution in Egypt and Mesopotamia, wine corresponds to the
age of enlightenment in Greece and Rome, etc. While many of us consider learning about history
through our diet a little strange, Tom Standage has another book entitled An Edible History of
Humanity which explored a similar concept. I believe that while the book contains many interesting
parallels between beverages and how mankind has developed, it doesn t continue to hold your

was interesting to hear the things textbooks reference put into the frame of beverages, such as
taxation without representation was tied to the American desire for more spirits because of the
tax on molasses. The best example is how wine in Greek culture was shared out of a communal

What Is A Random Act Of Kindness
Random Acts Of Kindness That Shouldn t Be Random Many people have a perception that a
deviant act must be something negative that unbalances the norms of society. However that is
not always the case, a deviant act could be one that is positive. According to Merriam Webster
deviant is defined as different from what is considered to be normal or morally correct. So it
comes down to what is considered to be normal behavior, and believe it or not going out of your
own way to help others or being randomly kind to strangers is not considered to be normal. Why
though, why do these acts of kindness towards others have the potential to be reacted to in a

race I already knew how my actions would be perceived. During the race there were multiple
times when I assisted another in pulling them up over an obstacle or boosting them up over an

Saturn Essay
Saturn
Saturn is one of the most interesting planets in the solar system. It is the sixth planet in the solar
system, and is most famous for its stunning array of rings. It is a very easy planet to pick out in
the sky because it is one of the brightest lights in the shy. It also has a very faint greenish color that
makes it stand out from the rest of the objects in the sky ( Astronomy for Kids ). Saturn is the second
largest planet in the solar system, Jupiter being the only planet that is bigger. It also has at least

Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system. Jupiter is the only planet that is larger.
The gas giant is 72 thousand miles in diameter, almost ten times the size of Earth. In spite of its
huge size, though, Saturn weighs very little. It is a very light gas planet. Saturn is the least
dense planet in the solar system so light, in fact, that it would float in water. This planet is
mostly composed of hydrogen and helium, like Jupiter, but it is much less dense. The
combination of its light weight and fast rotation causes Saturn to spread out, or oblate, its
center. Since Saturn is a gas planet, it does not have a solid surface. Spacecraft are unable to
land on this type of surface. The clouds that are seen when looking at Saturn are just the top layer
of a very deep layer that covers a center of liquid hydrogen. The clouds are blown by constant
winds that reach speeds up to one thousand miles per hour at the equator of the planet ( Great
Space Place ).
The rings of Saturn are more spectacular than those of any other planet. Although this planet s
rings are very wide, extending from the top of its atmosphere to well beyond the orbits of its
closest moons, they are very thin, measuring no more than a few kilometers (about a mile) in
thickness ( Great Space Place ). The Pioneer 11 flyby made several discoveries about the rings. The

Impact Of My Grandmother On My Life
Who in your life has caused you to become a better person? For some people it s a parent who
has shaped you since the day that you were born. For others it s the stranger who always says hi
to you when you see them on the street. Maybe it s the couple down the block who struggles to
make ends meet, but always has a positive attitude. It may even be the person who has hurt you the
most. These people make us a better person even when we least expect it. I never realized the
effect my grandmother had on my life until she stopped recognizing me.
My grandmother s parents immigrated to Johnstown, Pennsylvania from a small town in Poland
close to Warsaw. As a young child she spoke two languages Polish at home and English when she
went to school or with friends. Life started out very difficult and never really got any easier.. Her
life continued to get worse when she lost her husband in a mining accident and her eldest son to a
car accident. My grandma used to tell me the stories of their deaths, and how it taught her how
strong she really is. She turned the hardships in her life into something beautiful, something joyous,
and something sentimental. These moments shaped her into who she is, but they do not define her.
These moments that she shares allow me to move on and find something joyful about every
situation even if they are not be ideal. When my grandfather passed away my grandmother gave me
the strength to look on the brighter side of the situation instead of the sad side.

Effectiveness Of Daily Formative Assessments
Discussion This study investigated the effectiveness of daily formative assessments in the success
of low achieving ninth grade Algebra 1 students. Sending students into annual standardized tests,
like the Algebra 1 End of course exam, without quality daily assessments, often end with students
being placed in remedial courses the following year. The continual use of giving students failing
unit test grades, unsatisfactory semester exams that fail them for the semester, and no daily
feedback, does not prepare students for mastery of essential Algebra 1 material. Countless studies
show that the way teachers teach and students are assessed needs to change. In this study, it was
statistically determined that daily formative assessments fostered a significant positive impact on
student performance between a pre test and a post test. The study was proposed to determine if
formative assessments would make a statistical difference compared to traditional assessment
methods. According to the results of this study, students mastery of Algebra 1 concepts increased
due to the use of daily formative assessments. The daily formative assessments afforded the teacher
and the students with immediate feedback, allowing for a continual understanding of un mastered
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as needed to succeed on the summative assessment,
the Algebra 1 End of Course (EOC). From these findings, it can be concluded that the use of daily
formative assessments

Things Fall Apart Eulogy
Hello my Christian friends, welcome to my father Okonkwo funeral for the converts of the
church. I will not stand here in front of you today in a Christian church and tell you of the man
the ibo people of Umoufia saw. Yes, I will tell you that my father had a prosperous life, but I will
mainly tell you of the man I saw who killed good people before killing himself. I was told to write
about the great Okonkwo s life, and I will tell you nothing but the truth through my eyes.
My father was intimidating to many people, including my great friend Ikemefuna. Ikemefuna
was sacrificed by his village of Mbaino after one of their people killed someone from ours. He came
to my family timid, and Okonkwo made it harder for him to live here for the first ... Show more

It signaled bad things to come for all the villages in Umoufia, but Okonkwo just saw it as the
people of Amabe were dumb. Although he criticized those people when he heard the story, he did
the same thing for his village, but instead of wiping it all out, he decided to end the fight on his own.
I broke away from not only my family, but my village as well when I converted. I betrayed them
at the time for a better life for myself, but Okonkwo could not understand that. In fact, I may not
be standing here today if Uchendu didn t save me from the beating Okonkwo was giving me. He
showed me that I couldn t be my own man under him, so in order to better my life, I had to leave
him for the church. When I heard he was lifelessly hanging from a tree, I felt sorry for the man, but
also felt a sense of relief. He was my worst enemy in life, and he was gone from everyone s lives
forever. I asked myself why do I feel very little grief? The answer was because there was no longer
any weight on my shoulders, and I was now free to become my own

Two Reasons To Fear Grendel s Mother Analysis
Beowulf offers us two reasons to fear the Grendel s Mothers of the world. The first is the anger
of someone scorned and the second is the temptation of greatness in immorality. These two things
from the oldest work of literature in all of history should also be feared in reality as they both
wreak havoc where ever they preside.
I learned long ago that I was not perfect and that I would make copious amounts of mistakes in
my lifetime. I like to think that this knowledge has forced me to be responsible for my actions
though I am not sure that this is always true. Whether I hold firmly to this responsibility at all
times or not, I know that all actions have consequences and that they can be good or bad. I rather
like the scientific saying, Every action has an equal and opposite ... Show more content on

While she can be the secret avenger of our actions, she can also be the thing that tempts us with
what we want most only to let it destroy us once we have it. Beowulf was tempted with fame and
glory and he gave in. He got what he wanted but at the price of his morality and self assurance. He
gave up these things that he thought he didn t need in exchange for his largest dreams. It was only
afterwards that he discovered that he lost more than he gained. But this fault is not particular to
Beowulf alone; it is something we are all afflicted with. There are Grendel s Mothers in all aspect
of life. They tempt us with things we want like money, success, and the favor of others. We trade
away the same things that Beowulf did to achieve what we want and more. The price varies but
the outcome is always the same: we realize that our priorities were out of order and must deal with
the consequences. I am not excluded from this. There have been times when I gave into temptation
because I thought the outcome would be better. Times when I traded my honesty to keep the favor
of others only to lose their trust in the

Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches
Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches

Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches
Business researchers utilize various forms of approaches to analyze and obtain information and
data, and two of the most popular approaches used are the qualitative research approach and
quantitative research approach. Each approach can be beneficial or in some cases may cause
inconclusive results depending on the type of research being conducted and what the nature of the
study is. The following will assess two different peer reviewed articles: one which uses a qualitative
approach and the other a quantitative approach. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both approaches use single, assorted, and longitudinal methods in the research design, but
quantitative requires stringent consistency and also utilizes a cross sectional approach, along with
longitudinal, in order to acquire the most successful results. Quantitative research also maintains a
clear distinction between facts and judgments (Cooper Schindler, 2008). Quantitative research has
numerous strengths and weaknesses as well. The most popular and main form of quantitative
research is the use of surveys, which are cheaper and less costly than other forms of data
collection. Another beneficial quality of the quantitative approach is the lack of contact between
the researcher and the participants, which allows researchers to collect data that could be more
biasedly based if used with the qualitative approach. However, quantitative research has its
downfalls. Because the sample sizes are so large it lengthens the time of the data collection process
and interviewing the participants again is usually not possible, which could alter the consistency of
the results (Cooper Schindler, 2008).
As stated before, most quantitative research studies are used to define or measure something. Many
medical studies employ quantitative research to define the measurements of a specific issue. One

Presidential Campaign Of President Obama
Political campaigns can elevate a candidate s position, or a poorly run campaign can doom that
candidate s chances no matter how good the candidate is. At the end of the day all that matters is
winning. That is the goal of political campaigns in a nutshell. There have been many tactics
implemented when trying to run a campaign. Of the tactics implemented there are those that are
believed to work better than others. Of those that work better than others are, mobilizing base
voters by properly identifying who they are, having a clear message and spreading that message to
voters, debate performances and fundraising efforts. In this paper the 2008presidential campaign of
current president Barack Obamawill be measured along with the 2004 presidential campaign of
John F. Kerry. In this paper both campaigns will be analyzed on what tactics they used properly,
where they were not as effective and what could have been differently.
One of the most important factors when trying to run a successful political campaign is properly
identifying and mobilizing base voters. According to the readings in the book Presidential
Elections: Strategies and Structures of American Politics, it gives reasons why people do and do
not vote. One of the reasons people do vote is because voting in some way or another makes the
voter feel good. However when a campaign properly identifies their base voters, they can pretty
much assume that those voters are going to go out and vote, but more importantly

Surface Tension Between Polarity And Hydrogen Bonds
Polarity is the separation of an electric charge, leading to a molecule or its chemical groups
having a dipole moment. Polar molecules interact through dipole dipole, intermolecular forces,
and hydrogen bonds. In the five labs that we did, all of them were related to surface tension, in
one way or another. Surface tension is the tension of a surface film of a liquid caused by the
attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the bulk of the liquid. Therefore, polarity using
hydrogen bonding, and a difference in electronegativity creates surface tension to hold a paperclip,
cohesive and adhesive forces repelling and attracting a staple to oil and dish soap, and
intermolecular forces diverting food coloring into different directions when dish soap was added to
milk.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hydrogen bonding is the electrostatic attraction between polar groups that occurs when a hydrogen
atom bound to a highly electronegative atom such as nitrogen, oxygen, or fluorine experiences
attraction to some other nearby highly electronegative atom. In the first lab, the paperclip floated
on the surface of the water, without sinking. This was caused because of hydrogen bonding and
surface tension. H2O (water) is a hydrogen bond, and it became attracted to other hydrogen
bonds that were present in the beaker as well. Because the bonds became attracted to each other
they created surface tension, where the water molecules, also known as polar molecules (since
water is polar) are holding tight enough to support the paperclip. However, when soap was put
into the water, it disrupted the order of the water molecules. Originally, when the molecules were
holding the paperclip, their negative and positive charges were packed together next to each of
their opposite charges. Soap being added, disrupted the order of the water

A flower bloomed already wilting. Beginning its life with an early ending. (R.J. Gonzales). Hazel
Grace Lancaster lives a very unusual life for her age. Hazel was diagnosed with cancer when she
was young and has been going through aggressive treatment ever since. в єHer life is like a
tangled ball of yarn that gets even more tangled when she meets Augustus Waters. Augustus is a
charming, romantic boy who can not keep his eyes off of Hazel. The twist is, Augustus also has
terminal cancer, but there is no way they are going to let that stop them from falling in love. In the
book The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, the songs Stronger by Kelly Clarkson, If I Die Young

the start of the book Hazel was not as interested as fighting as she was when she met Augustus.
Hazel needed motivation to bring out her inner champion and he was exactly that. An example of
her early pessimistic views on her illness was described Late in the winter of my seventeenth
year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a

  • 2. How Did The Royal Navy Affect Canada The Royal Canadian Navy has impacted the Canada and the rest of the world in many different ways. The Royal Canadian Navy was extremely important for Canada, and for the rest of the world, in fact. It helped shape Canada to what it is now. Firstly, The Royal Canadian Navy helped shape Canada in the First World War. The Royal Canadian Navy managed to help defend Canada, and helped shape Canada into the beginning of what it was becoming. The Royal Canadian Navy defended Canada s harbours, and allowed for civilians in Canada to be safe. This all led to a feeling of National Identity, as Canada had defended itself. Also, when Britain had first demanded that the ships from Canada should go to Britain to merge with Britain s Navy, Canada managed to resist that order and use it s own ships by itself. Also, Canada managed to succeed in some battles that Britain hadn t, and this showed that Canada was different from Britain, Canada s mother country. Along with that, Canadians began to feel a sense of identity, like Canada was truly becoming a country, instead of just any old British colony. Between the time of the First world war and the Second World War, the Royal Canadian Navy was more of a symbol of National pride, as it had played a part in the first world war. However, it still helped deter other invaders and inside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with all of that, in the second world war, the RCN helped continue the separation from Britain. Canada, for once, didn t join the war as soon as Britain joined. • 3. Ancient Greek Theater Have you ever just wanted to kill your parents? Perhaps they are not letting you order a seventh slice of cheese pizza at Chuck E. Cheese s, or not letting you hang out with that dreamy hunk Bryan on Saturday. For Oedipus, killing his parents was not something petty he threatened when he got too worked up, but rather his fate. This suspenseful and masterful plot, conceived by the legendary playwright Sophocles, was one of the many groundbreaking works to come out of fifth century BC Greece. Works of ancient Greek theater, particularly Oedipusthe King, embodied the spirit of innovation that fifth century BC Athens was known for. The fifth century BC in Athens, aptly known as the Golden Age, was a time of great achievements in art and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a long time, only one actor was used, and often times the play s author himself would perform. However, probably due to demand on a single actor s physique and voice, two actors were introduced. Sophocles finally introduced a third actor, but three was the most Greek plays ever employed (Ley 25). Reminiscent of the dithyrambs from which they originated, Greek plays included a chorus of anywhere from twelve to twenty four members who would provide poetic interludes and narrations (Ley 22). Theatric spectacle in Greece was not an everyday commodity. In fact, plays were only performed once a year, at the Dionysia (Knox xx). For each of three days, sunrise to sunset, playgoers would sit through three tragedies, a more lighthearted and whimsical satyr play, and a comedy. The tragedies and the satyr play of the day would all be by the same poet, while the comedy was by a different playwright (Knox xx). At the conclusion of the festival, awards would be given to the tragedians by a panel of judges. Historians have no record on whether or not one of Simon Cowell s early ancestors was on the panel. Said to have often been awarded first prize, sometimes second, but never third in the Dionysia, Sophocles is one of the most renowned and influential playwrights of not only his time, but of all time (Ley 35). Born in 496 BC, just at the dawn of the fifth century BC, Sophocles prospered as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Desecration Of The Ecclesiastical Congregation Essay For a religion that professes a conviction for love, peace, and understanding, Christianity, during its early stages, was met with a great deal of maliciousness, turbulence, and misconceptions. While Christianity was growing, the Roman Empire witnessed several attempts to stop the spread of it. Unfortunately, the persecution of Christians was common during the first through third centuries; a clear indicator that much of Rome and the pagan societies within its boundaries decided to deal with Christianityin the most extreme and horrific way possible. These instances of severe aggression towards Christians were often sporadic and local. One of the communities that oversaw the expulsion of the Christians within their ranks was the town of Lyons in Gaul. The description of the desecration of the ecclesiastical congregation in this area is documented in a letter written by the churches located nearby to their contemporaries in Asia Minor. It details the tortures of those that proclaimed the faith and what they were submitted to. Young and old were imprisoned, beaten, grilled, mauled by animals, and much more. But what could cause the pagan majority to inflict such gory damage to the seemingly peaceful religion? The same letter condemning these actions also provides an answer. Although it is slightly ambiguous as to what sparked the outburst, it hints the possible reasons on why they were targeted. What started out as misconceptions grew into fear, and then when the Christians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. What is Confict Transformation Conflict transformation explains that rather then getting rid of the conflict (expression or disagreement), it seeks to work at the problem from the inside out (Lederach, 1995). In this conflict stated above the root of the conflict was when the customer did not retain her information and software due to the suggestion given of performing a factory reset her computer. This problem could have been resolved when the customer first came in the store and inquired about this issue. The sale representative could/should have told the customer to backup her data and then suggested a reset, even better the salesrepresentative could have done it for the customer. In saying this HP should have also informed the customer that such things can occur when factory resetting a device. Conflict Transformation is also reliant on a moral decision that are made on the spot and understanding that not all conflicts are going to be all right and that faith may played a major role in the end result (Lederach, 1995). We can see that the first impression that the customer received and was directed to HP was an incorrect moral decision that was made on the spot. Due to this decision it lead to frustration and a lengthy process to resolve for all parties. This gave the customer a wrong impression of what both companies are like and may never shop with us again. Another conflict resolution method that could have been used to handle this conflict is the interest based relational (IBR) approach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Newtown, Connecticut is like any other small suburban town; quiet, quaint and safe. • 11. Ezekiel s Vision And Prophetic Declaration Of A New Temple Introduction Ezekiel s vision and prophetic declaration of a new temple is among the most debatable text within the Old Testament. In the twenty fifth year of Ezekiel s exile, God instructed him to look and listen carefully by paying close attention to everything that he was shown. Not only was he supposed to see, hear and grasp, he also had to provide this information to Israel (Ez 40:4) . The vision was to provide hope, a spiritual renewal and a future depiction of Israel s restoration. Marine Corps Boot Camp I thought completing Marine Corps boot camp was my most cherished accomplishment, completing boot camp merely stood in the shadows of my last work up for my last deployment. I was holding the Bravo Squad Leader position. At this point in my Marine Corps career I obtained three combat oriented M.O.S. or jobs; however, there was little to no preparation for what I got myself into. There are two culminating events at what we call Combined Arms Exercise or CAX, the first one is solely for the Alpha squad leader in every platoon and the last is for the entire company of Marines which consist of about 200. Again I was no stranger to leading people because I was also a Martial Arts Instructor for the Marine Corps, but it was still not enough. Fox 10 Alpha is the range that honestly and humbly tested my grit and my mental capacity. • 14. The Victorian Er Collin s Challenging Traditional Gender... The Victorian Era: Collin s Challenging Traditional Gender Roles In 1868, British author Wilkie Collins wrote what is now famously known as one of the first full length detective stories, The Moonstone. Within this text, he explores and transcends his writing style, as he created an atmosphere full of suspense and gothic tradition by making use of two genres famous in the Victorian Era (Ayton, 2). As Collins managed to challenge the roles of men and women within The Moonstone, he ultimately attempts to reverse genders by creating a story of conflict, where the women are essentially in charge. As many genderstereotypes are expressed within The Moonstone through the different narrators of the novel, almost all of them become discredited as we are introduced to the other characters. By making use of the characters like Betteredge, Lady Verinder, and finally Rachel Verinder, Collins novel proves to break society s barrier of expected roles for men and women within the Victorian Era. During the Victorian period, men and women s roles became more sharply defined than at any time in history. This concept of roles, became extremely significant within Wilkie Collins The Moonstone (1868), as he incorporated the issues seen during that era, with the roles and expectations of the women in his novel. Because many of the women seen throughout Collins novel are more assertive than one would expect from a Victorian novelist, Collins shows women acting forcefully on their own, which ... Night Owl Analysis Bay Area locals, Guy Fox, deliver a feel good album, Night Owl, that could possibly sum up the direction of this past summer s sound, alongside with a good look into the future of new music, as the seasons change. Indie rockers Peter Granquist (vocals, drums, percussion), Nate Witherbee (vocals, synthesizer, guitar, piano), Greg Waters (guitar, saxophones, synthesizer) and Charlie Moore (vocals, bass, synthesizer, organ) experiment with synths, sweet melodies, and a distinct tone that has the ability to immortalize feelings flawlessly. Night Owl offers different moods and feelings throughout the album, orchestrated by playing with a simple recipe of sounds, presented in a new light each time, such as the first two tracks. Antique Furniture sets the tone and has the right amount of horns, and funky attitude, that is softened with a persistent synth. One of the greatest intros on the album would be for the track, Mind s Eyes. • 21. An Example Of A And A Neurocognitive Disorders And How... When studying abnormal psychology, we have learned about a variety of neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive disorders and how they affect personality and behavior. In this paper I will discuss an example of both a neurodevelopmental and a neurocognitive disorder. Within each of these disorders I will provide behavioral criteria, incidence rates, causes and treatments options for each of the disorders. The first disorder I am going to discuss is the neurodevelopmental disorder, Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome has always been fascinating to be as to its causes and its effects on people. Down Syndrome is congenital disorder resulting from a chromosome defect. Human s have 23 pairs of chromosomes giving us a total of 46 chromosomes. When a person has Down Syndrome, they have 2 copies of chromosome 21, as opposed to the normal 1 copy of it. People who have Down Syndrome still have 23 pairs of chromosomes but, with an additional copy of chromosome 21, they have a total of 47 chromosomes. This additional genetic material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome (What is Down Syndrome, 2012). People who have from Down Syndrome will display both physical and cognitive symptoms ranging from mild to sever depending on the person. Physical symptoms of people with Down Syndrome can include; low muscle tone, small stature, flattened facial profile, wide hands with short fingers, and an upward slant in eyes. • 22. Sin, Consequences And Redemption In Le Morte DArthur The Sin, Consequences, and Redemption of Sir Lancelot Sir Lancelot is the dominant figure in Le Morte D Arthur who presents us with the theme of sin and redemption. Sir Agravaine and Sir Mordred expose the courtly romance or otherwise adulterous affair between Sir Lancelot and Queen Guenever. This sets in motion the conflicts and other events leading up to the death of Sir Lancelot and many other noteworthy characters. Sir Lancelot betrays both King Arthurand Queen Guenever. If he is truly a noble character as Sir Gawaine, Sir Gareth, and Sir Gaheris describe, would he have involved himself in such a treacherous act? Sir Agravaine says, I marvel that we all be not ashamed both to see and to know how Sir Launcelot lieth daily and nightly by the queen, and all we know it so; and it is shamefully suffered of us all, that we all should suffer so noble a king as King Arthur is so to be shamed (Location 12810). Sir Lancelot s betrayal raises opposition between the knights and breaks up that which should remain united. His betrayal reaches beyond the king and queen. Thus, it is not a surprise that the consequences of his sin affect the lives of so many. Now, Sir Agravaine and Sir Mordredplot to find Sir Lancelot and Queen Guenever alone together, while the king is away. The king warns Sir Agravaine and Sir Mordred, ...he will fight with him that bringeth up the noise, and I know no knight that is able to match him (Location 12836). Their economies, military and social policies have been models and adapted by other nations on Earth and their present day influences in these same criteria seem to have no end. The driving force behind China s industrialization and the United State s global influence are one in the same; Energy. Both these nations have been fortunate enough through their geological locations to be able to find and harvest different sources of energy to propel their governments, economies, militaries, ect and with the help of harvesting the ingenuity of their respective populations to drive the discovery of more efficient and productive technologies in aspects of economics, home life and energy. This essay will go on to illustrate what energy sources either nations use and why they use them, what sources of energy they are trying to further develop and what sources of energy they import as well as export. Finally, We will touch upon the energy relationship between the US and China and compare this relationship through one or more international relations theories. • 24. American Society And Ugandan Society I stepped off the plane and the smell of burning trash immediately flooded my nostrils. The pungent smell permeated the air. Driving in the absence of lane lines, crosswalks, or any sense of organization made the eleven hour bus ride from the airport to my final destination all the more calamitous and fearsome. However, the most shocking of all in this initial experience of a new culture, was seeing vast amounts abandoned children. The biggest contrast between American society and Ugandan society is the difference in the value of children. In America, parents generally highly value their children and are willing to make sacrifices them. For children in Uganda , the story is quite different; they are exploited, abused, and viewed as burdens. The adverse effects of military occupation in Uganda can be traced back to the beginning of colonization. European countries like Britain, Belgium, and France all rushed into Africaat the end of the 19th Century trying to get their slice of Africa. Some nations were worse than others, but the two common themes that tied African imperialism together were racism and exploitation. For decades, the Ugandan people were under rulers that exploited them and treated them as if they could not be trusted in society. The torn society of Uganda has been affected by years, even decades, of war and militarized occupation. They face a corrupt government, broken economy, and execrable poverty. • 25. A Study At The Library Alone Essay The main argument of this paper is that most people are socialized to study at a specific spot. We will be focusing on people who come to study at the library alone. Most people become comfortable at a specific space in the library because of a general habitus of finding a space that is considered their own place to study at. In Becoming a firefighter, Matthew Desmond describes a general habitus as a system of dispositions and ways about and acting in the world that is constituted early on in life (Desmond, Ethnograhy, 391). Humans are disposed to studying in the same secluded spot because we take ownership of the space. Charles Horton Cooley writes in The looking glass self that if we think of a secluded part of the woods as ours , it is because we think, also that others do not go there (Cooley, The Presentation of Self in Everday Life ,32). People often think of their usual study space as theirs. Therefore, when entering the library, they often head straight for their space. When I was writing this paper, it was harder for me to separate my habits from other people`s and just sticking to my observations. I also struggled with identifying a phenomenon because many of the behaviors displayed would be considered normal behaviors. After reading Desmond`s theory on habitism in Becoming a firefighter, I came to the conclusion that they were normal because at Bard we are socialized to act a certain way. Syngas for FT can be coal, natural gas, or biomass derived, which opens several pathways for how FT can be industrialized. Since its creation, the FT process has continuously been researched and commercialized, but it remains an unpopular pathway to obtain liquid fuels. Ongoing development of the process is primarily due to the value and promise of the FT products. [2] The reactions in the FT process are generally described as the following: Alkanes: (2n + 1)H2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n+2 + nH2O(1) Alkenes: 2nH2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n + nH2O(2) Oxygenates: 2nH2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n + 2O + (n 1)H2O(3) Water Gas Shift: CO + H2O ⇔ CO2 + H2 (4) The reaction stated before can be achieved with the help provided by the catalysts. The catalysts that can be used in this process are varied. The preferred catalysts are the metals that have electron configuration of d7 (although not required) [4]. These includes (1) Fe (Iron) = [Ar] 3d6 4s2, (2) Co (Cobalt) = [Ar] 3d7 4s2, (3) Ni (Nickel) = [Ar] 4s2 3d8, (4) Mo (Molybdenum) = [Kr] 4d5 5s1, (5) Ru (Ruthenium) = [Kr] 4d7 5s1. (6) Rh (Rhodium) = [Kr] 4d8 5s1, (7) W (Tungsten) = [Xe] 4f14 5d4 6s2, (8) Other platinum group noble metals. [5] In real life, catalysts considered for FT synthesis are based on transition metals of iron, cobalt, nickel and ruthenium. Among these catalysts, it is generally known that nickel (Ni) tends to promote methane formation, as in a methanation process; thus generally it is not desirable. Iron (Fe) is relatively low cost and has a higher water gas shift activity, and is therefore more suitable for a lower hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio (H2/CO) syngas ... In considering how Natives have been treated in American history, it can be surmised that NCSA and the Native corporation system have been good for Alaska Natives. For the most part, ANCSA and the Native corporation system have had a positive impact on Alaska Natives. For example, in that era of American history, ANCSA was the largest land claim settlement. And for another example, the Native corporation system was set up in a way, that it safeguarded the land and cash settlement, so it would profit future generations of Alaska Natives and nonnatives as well. Nevertheless, ANCSA and the Native corporation system have had a negative impact as well. Such as, ANCSA was not seen as a good deal for all the Alaskan Natives. Because ANCSA caused confusion over governing structures of the tribes, many Natives believed that ANCSA made their tribes weak. The Articles provided a system for the Continental Congress to direct the American Revolutionary War, conduct diplomacy with Europe and deal with territorial issues and Native American relations. The articles were supposed to be a legislative body serving as the nation s executive rather than a parliament. Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system. Jupiter is the only planet that is larger. The gas giant is 72 thousand miles in diameter, almost ten times the size of Earth. In spite of its huge size, though, Saturn weighs very little. It is a very light gas planet. Saturn is the least dense planet in the solar system so light, in fact, that it would float in water. This planet is mostly composed of hydrogen and helium, like Jupiter, but it is much less dense. The combination of its light weight and fast rotation causes Saturn to spread out, or oblate, its center. Since Saturn is a gas planet, it does not have a solid surface. Spacecraft are unable to land on this type of surface. The clouds that are seen when looking at Saturn are just the top layer of a very deep layer that covers a center of liquid hydrogen. The clouds are blown by constant winds that reach speeds up to one thousand miles per hour at the equator of the planet ( Great Space Place ). The rings of Saturn are more spectacular than those of any other planet. Although this planet s rings are very wide, extending from the top of its atmosphere to well beyond the orbits of its closest moons, they are very thin, measuring no more than a few kilometers (about a mile) in thickness ( Great Space Place ). The Pioneer 11 flyby made several discoveries about the rings. The rings are made of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Impact Of My Grandmother On My Life Who in your life has caused you to become a better person? For some people it s a parent who has shaped you since the day that you were born. For others it s the stranger who always says hi to you when you see them on the street. Maybe it s the couple down the block who struggles to make ends meet, but always has a positive attitude. It may even be the person who has hurt you the most. These people make us a better person even when we least expect it. I never realized the effect my grandmother had on my life until she stopped recognizing me. My grandmother s parents immigrated to Johnstown, Pennsylvania from a small town in Poland close to Warsaw. As a young child she spoke two languages Polish at home and English when she went to school or with friends. Life started out very difficult and never really got any easier.. Her life continued to get worse when she lost her husband in a mining accident and her eldest son to a car accident. My grandma used to tell me the stories of their deaths, and how it taught her how strong she really is. She turned the hardships in her life into something beautiful, something joyous, and something sentimental. These moments shaped her into who she is, but they do not define her. These moments that she shares allow me to move on and find something joyful about every situation even if they are not be ideal. When my grandfather passed away my grandmother gave me the strength to look on the brighter side of the situation instead of the sad side. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Effectiveness Of Daily Formative Assessments Discussion This study investigated the effectiveness of daily formative assessments in the success of low achieving ninth grade Algebra 1 students. Sending students into annual standardized tests, like the Algebra 1 End of course exam, without quality daily assessments, often end with students being placed in remedial courses the following year. The continual use of giving students failing unit test grades, unsatisfactory semester exams that fail them for the semester, and no daily feedback, does not prepare students for mastery of essential Algebra 1 material. Countless studies show that the way teachers teach and students are assessed needs to change. In this study, it was statistically determined that daily formative assessments fostered a significant positive impact on student performance between a pre test and a post test. The study was proposed to determine if formative assessments would make a statistical difference compared to traditional assessment methods. According to the results of this study, students mastery of Algebra 1 concepts increased due to the use of daily formative assessments. The daily formative assessments afforded the teacher and the students with immediate feedback, allowing for a continual understanding of un mastered Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as needed to succeed on the summative assessment, the Algebra 1 End of Course (EOC). From these findings, it can be concluded that the use of daily formative assessments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will not stand here in front of you today in a Christian church and tell you of the man the ibo people of Umoufia saw. Yes, I will tell you that my father had a prosperous life, but I will mainly tell you of the man I saw who killed good people before killing himself. I was told to write about the great Okonkwo s life, and I will tell you nothing but the truth through my eyes. My father was intimidating to many people, including my great friend Ikemefuna. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It signaled bad things to come for all the villages in Umoufia, but Okonkwo just saw it as the people of Amabe were dumb. Although he criticized those people when he heard the story, he did the same thing for his village, but instead of wiping it all out, he decided to end the fight on his own. I broke away from not only my family, but my village as well when I converted. I betrayed them at the time for a better life for myself, but Okonkwo could not understand that. In fact, I may not be standing here today if Uchendu didn t save me from the beating Okonkwo was giving me. He showed me that I couldn t be my own man under him, so in order to better my life, I had to leave him for the church. When I heard he was lifelessly hanging from a tree, I felt sorry for the man, but also felt a sense of relief. He was my worst enemy in life, and he was gone from everyone s lives forever. I asked myself why do I feel very little grief? The answer was because there was no longer any weight on my shoulders, and I was now free to become my own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Two Reasons To Fear Grendel s Mother Analysis Beowulf offers us two reasons to fear the Grendel s Mothers of the world. The first is the anger of someone scorned and the second is the temptation of greatness in immorality. These two things from the oldest work of literature in all of history should also be feared in reality as they both wreak havoc where ever they preside. I learned long ago that I was not perfect and that I would make copious amounts of mistakes in my lifetime. I like to think that this knowledge has forced me to be responsible for my actions though I am not sure that this is always true. While she can be the secret avenger of our actions, she can also be the thing that tempts us with what we want most only to let it destroy us once we have it. Beowulf was tempted with fame and glory and he gave in. He got what he wanted but at the price of his morality and self assurance. He gave up these things that he thought he didn t need in exchange for his largest dreams. It was only afterwards that he discovered that he lost more than he gained. But this fault is not particular to Beowulf alone; it is something we are all afflicted with. There are Grendel s Mothers in all aspect of life. They tempt us with things we want like money, success, and the favor of others. We trade away the same things that Beowulf did to achieve what we want and more. The price varies but the outcome is always the same: we realize that our priorities were out of order and must deal with the consequences. I am not excluded from this. Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches RES/351 June 17, 2014 University of Phoenix Professor Pamela Campbell Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches Business researchers utilize various forms of approaches to analyze and obtain information and data, and two of the most popular approaches used are the qualitative research approach and quantitative research approach. Each approach can be beneficial or in some cases may cause inconclusive results depending on the type of research being conducted and what the nature of the study is. The following will assess two different peer reviewed articles: one which uses a qualitative approach and the other a quantitative approach. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both approaches use single, assorted, and longitudinal methods in the research design, but quantitative requires stringent consistency and also utilizes a cross sectional approach, along with longitudinal, in order to acquire the most successful results. Quantitative research also maintains a clear distinction between facts and judgments (Cooper Schindler, 2008). Quantitative research has numerous strengths and weaknesses as well. The most popular and main form of quantitative research is the use of surveys, which are cheaper and less costly than other forms of data collection. Another beneficial quality of the quantitative approach is the lack of contact between the researcher and the participants, which allows researchers to collect data that could be more biasedly based if used with the qualitative approach. However, quantitative research has its downfalls. Because the sample sizes are so large it lengthens the time of the data collection process and interviewing the participants again is usually not possible, which could alter the consistency of the results (Cooper Schindler, 2008). As stated before, most quantitative research studies are used to define or measure something. Many medical studies employ quantitative research to define the measurements of a specific issue. • 48. Presidential Campaign Of President Obama Political campaigns can elevate a candidate s position, or a poorly run campaign can doom that candidate s chances no matter how good the candidate is. At the end of the day all that matters is winning. That is the goal of political campaigns in a nutshell. There have been many tactics implemented when trying to run a campaign. Of the tactics implemented there are those that are believed to work better than others. Of those that work better than others are, mobilizing base voters by properly identifying who they are, having a clear message and spreading that message to voters, debate performances and fundraising efforts. In this paper the 2008presidential campaign of current president Barack Obamawill be measured along with the 2004 presidential campaign of John F. Kerry. In this paper both campaigns will be analyzed on what tactics they used properly, where they were not as effective and what could have been differently. One of the most important factors when trying to run a successful political campaign is properly identifying and mobilizing base voters. According to the readings in the book Presidential Elections: Strategies and Structures of American Politics, it gives reasons why people do and do not vote. One of the reasons people do vote is because voting in some way or another makes the voter feel good. However when a campaign properly identifies their base voters, they can pretty much assume that those voters are going to go out and vote, but more importantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Surface Tension Between Polarity And Hydrogen Bonds Polarity is the separation of an electric charge, leading to a molecule or its chemical groups having a dipole moment. Polar molecules interact through dipole dipole, intermolecular forces, and hydrogen bonds. In the five labs that we did, all of them were related to surface tension, in one way or another. Surface tension is the tension of a surface film of a liquid caused by the attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the bulk of the liquid. Therefore, polarity using hydrogen bonding, and a difference in electronegativity creates surface tension to hold a paperclip, cohesive and adhesive forces repelling and attracting a staple to oil and dish soap, and intermolecular forces diverting food coloring into different directions when dish soap was added to milk.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hydrogen bonding is the electrostatic attraction between polar groups that occurs when a hydrogen atom bound to a highly electronegative atom such as nitrogen, oxygen, or fluorine experiences attraction to some other nearby highly electronegative atom. In the first lab, the paperclip floated on the surface of the water, without sinking. This was caused because of hydrogen bonding and surface tension. H2O (water) is a hydrogen bond, and it became attracted to other hydrogen bonds that were present in the beaker as well. Because the bonds became attracted to each other they created surface tension, where the water molecules, also known as polar molecules (since water is polar) are holding tight enough to support the paperclip. However, when soap was put into the water, it disrupted the order of the water molecules. Originally, when the molecules were holding the paperclip, their negative and positive charges were packed together next to each of their opposite charges.
