Analysis Of Ed Boden
Ed Boden is an event planner at the Westin Galleria working close to the food and beverage
department. Ed gave helpful advice on how to represent yourself to your clients to show how
competent you are for the job. One important thing he emphasized on was to be confident in
yourself when speaking to the clients. He gave us an example on the two different ways to
approach people, one with intimidation and the other with assertiveness. These examples showed
the impact people can make to their audience by how they carry themselves. I personally found
this helpful because I feel that I lack confidence when I speak to people and him pointing that out
made me realized I need to work on that. Along with that example, he also shared points on how

Thirty Years War Research Paper
The Thirty Years War
Kristen Gwilt
HST 111. 11/16/15
The Thirty Years War, which involved multiple countries throughout central Europe, took place in
1618 1648. Although it initially began as a religious conflict between the Catholics and Protestants
in Germany, it quickly expanded into a larger conflict over the thirst for power within all of these
countries. This struggle was prolonged by the conflict by the rivalry with the French Bourbons and
the Austro Spanish Habsburgs. This war resulted in political, diplomatic, and religious ways that
created a shift in powers in Central Europe for many years to come.
The Thirty Years War came about as a direct result of differences between religious groups in
Germany. The initial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It set up a standard of non intervention in the internal affairs of other states. This includes
alliances to states and instructs other countries to not directly involve themselves with the
problems of other states. Much like all eras of socioeconomic devastation and destruction, this
war had a vast toll on the peasants and the working class members of society. The sizes of the
army, the prolonged battle time, and the inability to pay the soldiers only dug this issue into a
deeper grave. The only way the countries could suffice the money to pay their armies back was to
tax their people heavily. This foreshadowed the future uprisings of the unfairness of these taxations
on the people and how detrimental and destructive it is to their daily lives. Also during the war,
agricultural production declined, leaving many with the inability to create even the minimum
needed to feed their families. Famine swept across Europe and many died due to

The Life of Queen Elizabeth Ii
The Life of Queen Elizabeth II Queen Elizabeth II was born Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary
on April 21, 1926 in London ( Queen Elizabeth II ). Her father was Prince Albert, Duke of York,
and her mother was Elizabeth Bowes Lyon. Elizabeth was never meant to become queen (Smith
6). From the very start, her life never developed the way it should have. The leadership she
shows her, faithfulness, and her compassion tells her people she cares. The life of Queen
Elizabeth II isa true journey of an amazing Queen (Hardman 14). Elizabeth was very fortunate to
enjoy a relatively normal and stable family life for many years while her parents were just the

herself with dignity. She was Time Magazine s Womanof the Year in 1952 for providing a quiet,
well behaved fairy tale in which the world could believe ( Queen Elizabeth II ). In 1969, she
officially made Prince Charles her successor by granting him the title of Prince of Wales (Marr

rule of the Windsor family, Elizabeth pressured Prince Charles to marry. He finally decided to
marry in 1981. The wedding of Prince Charles to nineteen year old Diana Spencer drew
enormous crowds in the streets of London and millions around the world watched the
proceedings on television. Public opinion of the monarchy was especially strong at that time (
Queen Elizabeth II ). The following year, Elizabeth worried about her second son Andrew.
Prince Andrew served as a helicopter pilot in the British Royal Navy during the Falklands War of
1982. Britain went to war with Argentina over the Falklands Islands, a clash that lasted for several

Informative Speech On Figure Skating
I.If you re up for a challenge and prepared to test your balance with a new learning experience,
you could try what has become one of the most popular Winter Olympic Sports and what people
have enjoyed for even centuries before us ice skating. With nearly two thousand ice skating rinks
in the United States, indoor and outdoor, you might have one near you. While most people just hit
the skating rink to enjoy a day off with their loved ones, others are more passionate about the sport
and go on to be a professional skater. Professional referring to competitive status. Either way, figure

II.People may see figure skaters on television at an exhibition of professional figure skaters and

Case Study, Marc Chagall
Discuss how the environment and other influences, for example personal beliefs, have shaped the
work of at least one artist you have studied this year. Refer to work done by this artist to substantiate
your statements.
Marc Chagall was a Russian/French artist who was born into a poor family of Hassidic Jews on the
7th July 1887. Throughout his working life he was based in Russia from 1906 1910, then he
moved to France for four more years before moving back to Russia and Soviet Belarus for eight
years. Chagall was strongly influenced, but not limited to, movements such as Cubism, Fauvism
and Surrealism. These movements are demonstrated in his work through the geometric shapes, his
use of colour and the seemingly random placement of people ... Show more content on

This is because of the circle in the middle of the artwork joining the man, the goat and the
background.
This artwork is a surreal representation of the town of Vitebsk where Chagall grew up. Chagall
is trying to comment of the relationship of people with the land, which is demonstrated by the
man looking at the goat as an equal and also by the woman milking a goat. As there are in many
of Chagall s works, there is a spiritual reference in this artwork. The goat and the Star of David
are the symbolic references. The goat is a great symbol of sacrifice for the Jewish religion. The
colours in the artwork are reminiscent of the circus or other flamboyant events. The man could
represent the ringmaster. This could all show the way in which man lives in harmony with animals
and the environment. The large circle in the middle of the page could symbolise the sun and the all
the chaos surrounding it could show that the earth and everything on it is dependent on the sun for
life. The bright colours could also symbolise the fake world, opposed to that of the world when
Chagall grew up.
In The Green Violinist (1923 24) we see a green man wearing a purple coat, which is composed
of geometrical shapes. He is placed in the centre of the artwork and is standing on or floating in
the air above a couple of houses playing a violin. The fact that he is the only object that is

Savings And Loan Crisis Research Paper
Definition: The Savings and Loans Crisis was the greatest bankcollapse since the Great
Depression of 1929. By 1989, more than 1,000 of the nation s Savings and Loans (S Ls) had
failed. This effectively ended what had once been a secure source of home mortgages. Half of
the nation s failed S Ls were from Texas, pushing that state into recession. As bad land
investments were auctioned off, real estate prices collapsed, office vacancies rose to 30%, and
crude oil prices fell 50%. The Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) had been
created to insure their deposits, much like the FDIC does today. However, S L bank failures cost
the FSLIC $20 billion, which bankrupted it. In addition, more than 500 banks were insured by state

Senators, known as the Keating Five, were investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee for
improper conduct. They had accepted $1.5 million in campaign contributions from Charles
Keating, head of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association. They also put pressure on the Federal
Home Loan Banking Board, the agency responsible for investigating possible criminal activities at
Lincoln, to overlook possibly suspicious activities. What Caused the Savings and Loans Crisis?
Savings and Loans were specialized banks that used low interest, but federally insured, deposits in
savings accounts to fund mortgages. However, in the 1980s, money market accounts became more
popular by offering higher interest rates on savings. Consequently, investors became pulling money
out of savings accounts, depleting the banks source of funds. S L banks asked Congress to remove
the low interest rate restrictions. In 1982, the Garn St. Germain Depository Institutions Act was
passed, which allowed S Ls to raiseinterest rates on savings deposits. In addition, the banks were no
longer restricted to mortgages, but were allowed to make commercial and consumer loans. Most
importantly, the law removed restrictions on loan to value ratios. At the same time, the Federal
Home Loan Bank Board regulatory staff was reduced thanks to budget cuts during the Reagan
Administration. This further impaired their ability to investigate possible risky

The Market For Sensitivity Toothpaste
The market for sensitivity toothpaste is not completely tapped by the producers of sensitivity
toothpaste. In urban market (Tier 1 2) have a higher awareness of tooth sensitivity issue and
account for about 80% according to dentists. Of those 80% not everyone uses sensitive
toothpaste. Also, the 20% of those not aware are also a potential target for future customers.
Which provides for a credible market in the urban cities for CP to target. The other major reason
to target the sensitivity market is the rural population (Tier3 6). Majority population falls in this
category and sensitivity issue accounts for 25% of the people. This market segment has not yet
been targeted by other competitors and provides CP with an opportunity to target in the future.
CP will have to evaluate the positioning for each segment to determine how to target the
segment. Positioning is the mental picture that people have about a company and its products or
services relative to competitors (Grewal, 2014, p 234). In order to develop the positioning it is
important to have a positioning statement. It expresses how a company wants to be perceived by
consumers (Grewal, 2014, p 234). CP statement has been clear in India for a number of years. It
has used statements such as India s No. 1 Brand or India s No.1 Most Trusted Brand. While in the
sensitive market segment it states No. 1 toothpaste recommended by dentists for sensitive teeth.
Usually, firms position their products and services

Human Bones Research Paper
Human Bones Remodeling and Repair Bones are constantly growing and expanding; they are
undergoing replacement and remodeling. It is obvious that during childhood our bones grow,
the long bones (those in the arms, legs, and back) grow at the ends of the bones, while the flat
bones (like those in our skulls) have a different pattern of growth. What many people do not
know is that our bones are constantly growing and changing from the time we are born until we
die. The process is microscopic, constant and inconspicuous. When a bone breaks; however, the
remodeling and repair process is faster and much more noticeable after a bone is broken. When a
bone breaks there are a series of happenings that our body undergoes in order to repair and remodel.

It is pricy for the full suite version (over 800 euro).
Pros of Propellerhead Reason:
In depth audio editing. Easily create parallel channels and effect racks. Equalizer effect is fantastic
in Reason, never used anything like it.
The Reason 8 interface looks clean, and the browser makes the software easy to navigate around.

Defense Attorney Ethical Duty
It can be challenging for a defense attorney to maintain a proper balance with respects to ethics
owed to their client and the ethical duty owed to the courts. There are times that a client admits to
their Lawyer new information regarding their case. This can range from knowing more about the
details of a case that could change the course of the trial or it could be an admission by the client
that they actually committed the crime. Attorneys must maintain a level of confidentiality with
respects to the attorney client privileges, in defending their client s Constitutional Rights. Knowing
the information, about the client s guilt will now need to be factored and balanced into the equation
of how to best handle this new information, while still... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The attorney client privilege, is essential within these Amendment s.
In the Meredith case, the exception and ruling by the court, had actually given a main focus for
the prosecution and the needs they have to try these cases. While it is a double edged sword for
a defense attorney to know upfront if the client is guilty of such a crime, it can offer a more solid
way for the attorney to prepare a counter rebuttal, against the goals of the prosecution s agenda.
Still yet, the defense attorney must also think of the duty that is owed to the public at large and
the justice system. They must find a way to balance both concepts, as they walk that fine line.
Many years have passed since the Meredith case was before the California Supreme Court and the
exception it had made. The court has made new laws and amended others, that pertain to the
Attorney Client privileges and confidentiality. Certainly, this case would be enlightening to follow
up with in Westlaw Next. It would be interesting to see how many other cases over the years, have
shaped our judicial system to address the issues of confidentiality and the Attorney Client

Sleep Apnea Davis Summary
Sleep Apnea, by Davis, Andrew S, explains the breathing cessations during sleep. Sleep Apnea
reduces the amount of oxygen flowing to the brain which causes brain issues. People with sleep
apnea usually wake up at night because of the shortness of breathing, then resume back to sleep
after adjusting their breathing. Davis states that due to sleep apnea, a few individual has sleeping
issues such as snoring, headaches or even find it hard to fall asleep. Sleep apnea is also existed in
children (from 0.5% to 3% of the population) which cause them often be crying at night and tired in

Although there is a treatment for sleep apnea, the successful treatment requires surgery. Davis
states the most successful treatment in children is to remove the child s tonsils and adenoids.
Another treatment that Davis shows in his article is the CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway
Pressure) though Davis explains this treatment only splints open the airway and is uncomfortable
since the patient has to sleep with a mask. As Davis states a few symptoms of sleep apnea in
children previous in his writing, Davis states that children with sleep apnea usually have many
special education issues. They might find it hard to concentrate on a certain thing; they usually
having behavior and memory issues. Davis further explains that those symptoms mainly come
from the children s sleepiness which caused by sleep apnea. Davis suggests that the parents and
teachers should be more observable toward the children since sleep apnea symptoms are similar to
attention deficit disorder. Davis encourages that children with sleep apnea should get the specialty
since they having trouble on focusing, and they might having difficulty adapt to school or society.

Capitalism In America
Capitalism is essentially the economic system in which private owners are able to control industry,
rather than the government. This system fundamentally drives American society and what makes
America particularly attractive to foreigners especially. In a capitalist society, class is not solely
based on birthright, but one has the ability to change his/her class based on income. Ideally, the
more income a person has, the more freedom and power this person is able to exercise. However,
business moguls and government have been known to exploit this fundamental feature of market
economy and use it to their advantage by harboring money (power). But before I put on my tin foil
hat and start spewing on about the government, allow me to ask this question: Where does this
system come from? I believe in order understand the oppressive issues of this system, it s crucial to
understand the conditions that formulated it. It s safe to say that American government is a
descendent of English government. The colonies along the east coast of North America were
settled by mostly English settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries. As the English travelled across the
Atlantic Ocean, they not only extended the rule of the English monarchy but also transported their
cultural heritage as well. Subsequently, the colonists revolted against English monarch, King
George III, during the American Revolutionary Warin the late 18th century. Simply put, colonists
felt devalued and exploited by the English

Memento Mise En Scene Analysis
Nolan uses mise en scene to further develop the audience s understanding and view of the
protagonist, Shelby and his psychological struggles in the opening scene of Memento. Followed
by the non linear editing, Nolan uses low key lighting to create a dark and dangerous
atmosphere, which shows Shelby as being vulnerable and in danger. However, the dim lighting
suggests that Shelby is a murderous man as he is holding the gun. This helps build tension felt
by the audience by making them want to understand who Shelby is and to learn why he has
killed a man. At the start of the film, the audience does not know his motive and become
intrigued as they want to solve the mystery as to why Shelby has committed murder. To further
emphasise this, the setting is an empty, isolated room that is low key lit. this is immensely
ominous as all the features carries connotations of death. Shelby is wearing a suit, which suggests
that the film is set in modern society. As it is set in the modern society, it accentuates to sense of
danger and the ominous feel to the audience as it is seen as illegal and beyond convention to
murder. The sense of danger is elevated by the fact that the scene is directly after Shelby has
committed murder. It shows Shelby s unperturbed facial expression and a scratch on his cheek. The
cut illustrates that he has endured some physical altercation with his victim. Shelby s facial
expression is rather confusing and rather concerning as he seems emotionless after a

Essay On Managing The Building Envelope
Innovations in technology and field data services are redefining how service providers and
building owners efficiently manage roofing and wall façades. With specialized hardware,
software and services, field data collection options are expanding. Combined with evolving
expectations for professionals, buildingowners need to evaluate more options to consider the best
strategy for managing the building envelope (B Ev).

Field Observation Data Standards
The endorsement of roofing asset management programs and façade construction observation
practices by a collective of public and private companies has built a substantial knowledge base of
best practices and standards for B Ev observations. A challenge for firms today is which
observation processes to adopt for consistent references for materials, systems, and recommended
repairs. Service provider firms that can deliver reliable as built data and site construction
observations are better positioned to produce more consistent deliverables and benefit from field
data automation.
Adding to the challenges of data consistency, service firms frequently use multiple field observers
or deploy multiple project teams working on remote sites. Adding technology does not always
improve the efficiency or quality of the deliverable. The result may be faster collection of
inconsistent data or some inspectors collecting data faster in the field only to find the office
administrative costs to edit records offset the benefit. One strategy that helps is defining the
observation data and procedures prior to starting. By preparing observation data standards,
descriptions, and policies, field observers can work within reliable guidelines to provide the
anticipated detail and that improves efficiency and produces consistency the client anticipates.
For instance, before the project starts, identify the active data fields that will be used for the

was launched in 2005, the investment and divesture decisions were advised. Many of the businesses
that were selected for divestment were unrelated to the company s core competencies. That is, their
resource requirements and key value chain activities were so dissimilar that no competitively
important cross business relationships existed. These include direct selling, European apparel, and

population of animals in the Everglades by so much that people are beginning to worry about what

Burmese Pythons are definitely astonishing creatures. Native to Southeast Asia s version of the

chooses to kill herself not out of sorrow, but out of revenge against her father and Hamlet.
Ophelia s father was portrayed as a man who tried to have control over his daughter s life and the
choices she makes. In Ophelia s first scene, Polonius and her brother Laertes, are talking to
Ophelia about her virtue Tender yourself more dearly/ Or not to crack the wind of the poor
phrase,/ Running it thus you ll tender me a fool (1.3.113 115). Polonius is lecturing Ophelia on
the matter of her virtue, and how it is sacred to her. It is something that she must keep safe at all
costs and not fall to the whims of Hamlet. He doesn t believe that Hamlet actually likes Ophelia
and that instead he only wants Ophelia for her body. Polonius does not take into... Show more

enough to know that a suicide would not have been given a Christian burial, so she had to plan

would help her achieve revenge against the two men with whom only one thing about her

A Norm Is A Rule Of Behavior Of Individuals In Society
A norm is a rule of behavior of individuals in society or groups, Emile Durkheim sociological
founder considered norms to be social factors that exist in individual s society of independence
that creates the shapes of our behaviors and thoughts (Crossman, 2017). In the terms of not having
sociality without social control the society would have no function without enforcing social
orders that make daily life and the complex division of labor possible (Crossman, 2017). Social
order is produced by ongoing life longs process of socialization that individual experience. Through

Racial Prejudice And Stereotypes
Stereotypes are generalized, usually negative, but sometimes positive, beliefs about a group of
people. Prejudice unjustifiably applies stereotypes to a singe member of the group based on their
association with that group. Everyone has different amounts of prejudice, and though most people
will not admit to being prejudiced, every single person is prejudiced to some degree. Prejudicecan
exist at two different levels, an implicit and an explicit level. Though most people will deny any
explicit prejudices, everyone harbors implicit prejudices. Research has shown that people who
deny racial prejudice often make negative associations known as implicit racial associations. One
cause of negative racial associations is ingroup bias. Since the beginning of time, people have felt
the need to belong to certain groups, which lead to prejudice by splitting people into us and them,
us being the ingroup, and them being the outgroup. The ingroup, or us, are people who share a
common identity, and the outgroup, or them, is anyone who does not share this identity or belong
to the same group. Ingroup bias develops shortly after identifying ingroups and outgroups.
Prejudice is something that is very prevalent in everyday life. One example of prejudice that has
been big recently is the prejudice white law enforcement officers have against African Americans. It
has been proven that African Americans are more than twice as likely to be shot by law
enforcement officers

Writing Assignment #1 Civility
When once the forms of civility are violated, there remains little hope of return to kindness or
decency (Johnson csmonitor.com). Samuel Johnson, English writer and essayist, popular in the
19th century, sums up the reality of modern American politics in such a simple sentence. However,
the simple warning, unheeded, has surely stymied and gridlocked American government to such an
extent, that even the most diehard believers in democracy are finding the current political
environment to be permanently toxic and therefore, hopelessly ineffective. When did it all go
wrong? One of the best examples of two political rivals that warred fiercely from 9 5, but liked
and respected one another after hours, comes in the friendship of President Ronald Reagan and
House Speaker Tip O Neill. Reagan and O Neill disagreed on nearly everything that a politician can
include in a platform. Yet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In times when the U.S. confronts serious threats extremist rhetoric sometimes seems appropriate
and necessary. One could argue that speeches advocating the end of slavery or the fight against
modern terrorists was justified. However, those well meaning words can plant thoughts of
violence in the minds of the easily persuaded to commit violence to gain results (Davis
upenn.edu). Rhetoric used by political leaders is sometimes uncivil because politicians do not
consider the consequences of what they say or do before they execute their plans. With this being
said, it would be extremely difficult to remedy the incivility of political discourse without
damaging the right of free speech granted by the first amendment; however, President Obama s
speech in Tucson, Arizona offers sound advice for political leaders, speechmakers, and those who

The Stereotype Of A Smart High Achieving Asian American...
The model minority is a member of a minority group either based on ethnicity, race, or religion
whose members are commonly perceived to achieve a higher level of success than the average
population. The success that an individual reaches is typically measured by income, education, low
crime rates and high family stability achieved throughout their lives. The stereotypeof the model
minority is commonly associated with Asian Americans as they are assumed to achieve highly in
academics which will thus propel them up the economic ladder. The stereotype of a smart high
achieving Asian Americanstudent is fueled by other stereotypessuch as Asians being good at math
and that they all go to college. The intelligence stereotypes created by society are the reason why
some individuals feel pressured to succeed and feel as if failure is not as option. If its not the
student who feels the pressure, than it is the parent that pushes to child to do well. So called
helicopter parents, that push their children into professions or schools that the child may not want
to attend, but have no choice as the school or profession will bring upon great fortune and pride

Advantages And Objectives Of BYOD
Bring Your Own Device:
In today s world BYOD (Bring your own device), play a crucial role as it allows millions of
employees to bring their own smartphones and laptop to their work place which in return allow
them to work and connect to the company network. This is relatively a new approach to
technology. We have both advantages and disadvantages in using BYOD process.
BYOD Advantages:
пѓ The first greatest advantage is it improves the productivity.
пѓ Also it helps employees to work anytime they wish for as they have company network access to
their smartphones or laptops.
пѓ Another benefit is it also improves employee morale. There will be great employee job
satisfaction with BYOD as they use their own device rather than given by IT team.

protect them from cybercriminals and finally ensure that the network is free. There is great amount
of pressure on IT department as every employee hold different varieties of devices and should
ensure that device is meeting all the security standards.
BYOD Policies:
In order to protect the company from various security issues companies have certain policies. The
following are the effective BYOD policies:
пѓ The company has to specify to which device and operating system they are supporting.
пѓ Third party applications should to banned that cause additional security issues.
пѓ Providing password protected facility for all the devices for additional security.
пѓ Explaining the employees in detail to which functions like email access, word documents etc.,
they have access from their mobile devices.

Biological Effects of Radiation
Radiosensitivity
DNA as main cellular target
Cellular role of DNA DNA is a double helix molecule made up of two sugar phosphate backbones
that are linked together at the bases: Adenine Thymine and Guanine Cytosine. DNA is responsible
for cellular structure and function.
Direct vs. indirect DNA damage ** Direct damage Direct ionization has charged particles such as
alpha, protons, and electrons. Direct damage to the nucleus of the atom is the direct damage to the
DNA cell. Has the ability to rip electrons off of an atom. Indirect Damage Indirect ionization is with
x rays, gamma rays, and neutrons. Indirect ionizations cause secondary effects:
Radiolysis splitting of water. An electron can be ejected to form h20+.
This electron can be absorbed by another atom to form h20 . These ions can form ion pairs or
highly reactive free radicals. All can recombine to form water, hydrogen peroxide, or interact with
the cellular components of a cell such as the nucleus. (Radiation Therapy Essentials Board

What Are The Misrepresentation Of African Americans
The media often paints a picture of certain groups that may not be accurate for example, African
Americans in the media are portrayed as criminals, drug addicts, or misogynist which also

millions of responsible and respectable African Americans. They are not celebrated in the
media. What the community sees are instead are thing in movies and on TV. This changes the
general perception of African Americans and cause people to assume they are violent and are a

were rarely portrayed on screen and when they were portrayed in satirical ways, it was with
white actors in blackface. This is a great example of the misrepresentation of an entire
community by those in power. In February 1915, a movie was released called birth of a nation

heroes and the villains were portrayed by white actors in black face. The film was basically trying

Dramatic Techniques In Arcadia
Arcadia is a play that Izzy and I felt very attached to so when the moment came to choose a
scene, we instantly knew which play we wanted to perform. Some plays are better understood
when they are read, but Arcadia is on the other end of that spectrum. Arcadia was the perfect play
for us perform because we had enough actors (three of us) and Arcadias Act II, Scene 2 felt perfect
for this final.
Izzy, Cole, and I have a funny dynamic as a group of friends so that translated perfectly into our
scene because the lens with which we interpreted the scene was comedic something we thought
Stoppard intended. Cole will play Jellaby, the sarcastic butler who is simply just trying to get

Septimus and Lady Croom are sitting down when Jellaby brings in her infusion. I must pour tea

the letter from Lord Byron. The next pivotal moment is the most important in the whole scene.
Septimus justifies his meeting with Mrs. Chater by telling Lady Croom that it was only because,
in his madness, he believed the Chater with her skirts over her head would give [him] the
momentary illusion of the happiness to which [he] dared not put a face (61). During this
interaction, I jump up and corner Izzy on one side of the stage whilst in my passionate speech and
then when I am finished I retreat into myself. Izzy then executes Lady Croom s art of seduction by
dragging her finger along my shoulder while she passes me to the door. This staging is somewhat
complicated but it contributes greatly to the greatness of our

Analysis Of The Great Gatsby
Ms.SedaJoseph Rosendo PD 5May 3, 2016At the end of the novel of The Great Gatsby, Nick
recounts all the things that had just occurred and says I see now that this has been a story of the
West, after all Tom and Gatsby, Daisy and Jordan and I, were all Westerners, and perhaps we
possessed some deficiency in common which made us subtly unadaptable to Eastern life. Nick
says it was a story of the West because they all had the common trait of being lured and
accustomed into the Eastern style instead of their origins in the West. The West proven to not be
the preferable home of each of these characters, as they all made the decision to move to the
East. On the East, where there was a rapid and growing dream of wealth and prosperity. Once
they achieve this, they think they can do what ever they want, after all they have gotten the
classic American dream so now what is there to achieve? Although the wealthy should hold high
profile images, much trouble is caused by them as portrayed by some of the main characters in
the book. Tom, Gatsby and Daisy are each characters that couldn t adapt to Eastern life. Each went
through different fates, but all with the common deficiency of being affected negatively by
Eastern life and portray an overall story of their lives rooted from the West. First, there is Tom
Buchanan, who came from Chicago and went to college with Nick. At the time he was a football

Social Stressors
Men are more vulnerable to various social stressors due to influence of internal psychology and
external gender roles. While males and females both experience social stressors that contribute to
suicide, data has shown that these social stressors have a stronger effect on males (Watt and Sharp,
2001). In particular, a statistical analysis on suicidal adolescents demonstrated that men are more
impacted by social strains related to esteem and status, known as status strains. One key social
stressor that is also tied to status trains is related to socioeconomic class. The suicideprofile of a
male completer tends to be unemployed (Coleman, Kaplan and Casey, 2011). Using the analytical
psychological escape theory of suicide, it is possible to determine that perceived failure of failing
socioeconomically can contribute to suicide rates. Also, as stated earlier, the male genderrole
focuses on being a provider. Not being able to fill that gender role can result in feelings of distress
leading to the act of suicide.
Occupations that are more often held by men, tend to put them at a higher risk of suicide. Men, in
general, tend to work in more high stress occupations than females (Roberts, Jaremin and Lloyd, ...

While this may appear contradictory there is a simple explanation behind this fact. As stated
earlier, there tends to be more social supports for women than men: men tend to be more
isolated. Marriage is a protective factor against suicide for men but not for women (Gold, 2005).
This is due to lack of social bonds in men. men in general have only their spouse who acts as a
main social support in times of distress. Meanwhile, women have many others to call upon in
times of distress. This puts men at a higher risk of suicide since one of their few social support
systems will disappear after experiencing relationship

How stocks are traded
Stocks are traded on stock exchanges after a company completes an Initial Public Offering (IPO)
because its shares now become public and are ready to be traded (Hayes, 2018). This is a very
straightforward way of investing unlike bonds that can be time consuming and mostly involve a lot

including the impact of painmanagement, inadequate education, and misconceptions. In an effort to

Part of the WHO goal is to educate providers, clinicians and public on the proper assessment,
pharmacological, and non pharmacological approaches. This type of knowledge of pain
management is crucial to the multidimensional aspects and symptoms associated with common
co morbidities in palliative care (Wilkie and Ezenwa, 2012). The most commonly used tool
suggested by the WHO is the WHO Pain Relief Ladder which includes adult and child variations
that progress from non opioid with adjuvant to opioid medication (Lowe, Hanchanale and
Hurlow, 2014). The WHO ladder has been successful in providing adequate pain control in 96%
of renal failure patients and 45 100% of cancer patients on palliative care (Lowe, Hanchanale and
Hurlow, 2014). In addition to a lack of knowledge of treatment options, many individuals are
confused to the roles of specialists and non specialists in palliative care (O Brien, 2013). In order
for substantial change to occur and ultimately promote reform in palliative care pain management,
education must be initiated with the person experiencing pain. An individual s experience can be

Harry Potter And The Novel The Rye
The complexity and Rowling s willingness to take on difficult and contemporary issues such as
racism, genocide, classism, and difference makes Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone
uniquely valuable. While both books can be regarded as controversial due to the moral fibre of
them, Catcher in the Rye, captures an adolescent protagonist wavering between childhood and
adulthood. Holden Caulfield, a confused teenager, explores how adult life appears complex and
incomprehensible to teenagers on the brink of entering it. Likewise, Harry Potterfocuses on a timid
young boy, unsure of his abilities. While both characters are young and dissatisfied with the world
around them, Harry finds ways to resemble positive change and adjusts to the world surrounding
him. Holden, however, refuses to acknowledge that adulthood scares him, using the museum to
symbolise something that remains unchanged. By the museum representing childhood as a world
of innocence, curiosity and honesty, readers are able to distinguish that adulthood to Holden is a
world of superficiality and hypocrisy and phoniness. (Reference)

In the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and resulting tsunami, over 4000 scientists,
government officials, NGOs and UN representatives met in Kobe, Japan to address one of the
most important tests the world has to face: disaster risk reduction (DRR). The product of the
conference was the 10 year Hyogo Framework for Action 2005 2015. Endorsed by 168 countries,
the document promotes 3 main aims: the integration of DRR into viable development policies and
planning, building resilience to hazards and incorporating risk reduction methodologies into the
implementation of emergency preparedness, response and recovery programmes (GNDR, 2014). In
order to achieve these goals, the framework states 5 priorities of action:

Nevertheless, one point that everyone agrees on is that the HFA has achieved very much in
giving greater momentum to DRR worldwide. Judging by the stable growth of the number of
countries reporting their progress on HFA implementation, from 27 countries in 2007, to 77 in
2009 and over 100 in 2011 (GNDR, 2014), and by the overall rise in their quality, it is easy to see
the increase of interest towards achieving HFA goals. Moreover, the continuous increase in
participants at conferences related to disasters can also point to a new level of popularity of DRR,
thanks in no small part to the Framework.
There has also been some well documented progress towards accomplishing the first priority of
action, with a growing number of nations updating their existing laws based on HFA standards,
including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc. (Oxfam International, 2011). Also, the number of
National Platforms enacted across the world has increased from 38 in 2007 to 73 in 2011 (Oxfam
International, 2011), while the number of HFA Focal Points for HFA implementation has risen
from 63 to 192, indicating a clear commitment to the standards and provisions of the Hyogo
Framework for Action. Nonetheless, there is yet to be seen some significant headway in
harmonizing legislative frameworks in other sectors, such as water resources, agriculture, etc. with
the new laws, which sometimes can lead to key difficulties in disaster risk management.

and really has been able to put them in a segment of their own. Threat of Substitution: Their
products and colors separate Deere from its competitors. The company has always looked to support
farmers and owners of their equipment with the goal of making owners of other equipment wish
that they had bought a Deere. Threat of New Entry: Overall there is not a great barrier to new entry
but because of the stiff competition at the top new entrants have had struggles. 2. How have Deere s

A Very Brief Biography of Bethoven
{Quote about Beethoven} According to musicologist Berry Cooper, Beethoven was born on
December 16, 1770 in Bonn, Germany, where his father was the Kapellmeister. His father,
Johann, was a respected tenor, violinist, and teacher of both the clavier and the piano. Although
Beethoven is not considered a child prodigy, Beethoven did start music at an early age. Around
age three, he would often sit on his father s lap and play has his father sang, and abandon his
playmates to listen to his father perform. Some historians believe that he started taking formal
piano lessons at age five, a normal age to start training in piano, from his father. Between the mix
of Beethoven natural talent and his father s pedagogical experience, Beethoven excelled quickly
as a piano and violin player. It was said that Beethoven s father was so intent on Beethoven s
lessons, that he would often bring Beethoven to tears. When he was seven, he made his public
debut in Cologne, with two other of his father s students, where he astounded the audience by the
difficulty of music that was played.1 By 1779, his father could no longer teach the young
composer and searched for other teachers. After going through many teachers Beethoven found
Christian Gottlob Neefe who was the first to allow him to compose. In 1782, his first recorded
work was a set of variations on a march by Ernst Christoph Dressler. This was then arranged by
Neefe and published. This work, even from such an early age showed many

Great Debaters Discussion Questions
In the film The Great Debaters, the true story of a college debate team in Texas highlights the
importance of public speaking. In numerous instances, if a topic makes a large group
uncomfortable this topic goes untouched. However, in this film, the debate team bravely brings on
those topics that are close to their hearts, even though society does not want to talk about these
issues. The most prominent example of uneasy topics is when James Farmer Jr., in the middle of a
Harvard debate, with a predominantly white audience, goes to talk about the lynching of people of
color. While this was a topic purposely not brought up due to making people uncomfortable, by
Farmer doing this it started the discussion. Obviously, one man saying lynching is inhumane does
not solve the problem. However, one voice can start a discussion. Discussions lead to... Show more

Public speaking is the spark that leads to the realization of the need for change. When the world
becomes so conditioned to not talk about the uncomfortable issues, it becomes easy to forget
how harmful they truly are. However, public speaking is that opportunity to hold up that mirror
to society, and command a change to be made. All of the great social shifts were fueled by the
speeches of those who cared. The famous of all being the famous I Have a Dream speech, which
still is quoted today. In order for change to take place, an individual must speak up in some sort of
public forum to identify the problem.
As a passionate person, in my own public speaking experiences, it is extremely easy to let my
emotions overpower my logic. Whether this be negative feelings making me too hotheaded to
focus, or too passionate and rambling, my own emotions get in my way of public speaking.
However, in this film, the character Samantha Brooke was an excellent way to represent people like
me. During her tryout to make the

Introduction to the assignment for the week.
Recommendations for Landslide Limousines
As we put this paper together, let s make sure we cover all the requirements:
Conduct a market evaluation by researching what companies in the relevant market are providing to
employees from a total compensation perspective.
Recommend a compensation structure.
Recommend the position in the market.
Create a total compensation and benefits strategy.

When deciding what wage to start an employee the company may want to separate employees by
experience and skill required for the position. All open position will be given compensation similar
to the marketplace average rate. The salary rate according to Simply Hire starts with the minimum
wage of $15.60, but not exciding$ 20.65 according to Pay Scale Human Capital. Landslide
Limousine may want to consider if their budget permits it to start their wage in between the
minimum and max making the start wage at $18.00 this amount will defiantly help the new
company stand out from the rest of the competition. Limousine chauffeurs average $30,000 a year
in Austin, Texas while limousine chauffeur averaged $18.22 an hour making $35,000 annually in
Houston, Texas. By creating and attractive compensation packages will ensure a successful
recruitment rate, retention rate and employee satisfaction. The process of creating a benefits
package for 25 employees will feel as a sensible expense, but the bottom line will be that at the end
of the day the company will not make a profit. The company must acknowledged that the benefits
package will not be a reasonable expense.
C. Jose Based on the number of employees what is the best plan? And will the company add to the
plan?
D. Seneca Based on the annual net revenue of the company we chose does the plan work for the
employees and Company? Based on Landslides plan to have 25 employee s and a net

Why I Am A Volunteer Program
...
Introduction
Dovercourt School is a bilingual school which provides English and Chinese program. The school
philosophy is to believe that the students need to be engaged to be deeply successful in their
learning. They believe that the students will be successful by persisting studying, overcoming
obstacles, and delighting in accomplishing their work.
I began to be a volunteer to read mandarin stories to students in mandarin grades three and four in
Dovercourt School in Oct 14 and Oct 16. On the one hand, I believe that volunteering activity can
create my credibility, build self confidence, develop self awareness, and share the vision. On the
other hand, the motivation behind volunteer activity will benefit for those students who need help
improve their mandarin knowledge. I
How was this activity chosen?
When I picked the volunteer project, I have been the volunteer in my son s school for several
years. I like to be a volunteer to participate the activity with kids since they are so creative and
lovely. Furthermore, the most important point is that I would like to observe my son s
development closely.
First, I contacted my son s Chinese teacher Ms. Lennon, who is very strict and responsible, and
tell her my requirement. She was very supported my decision and let me to read stories to her
students. Therefore, I became a volunteer to read mandarin stories this week for my son and his
classmates.
On this Monday, she emailed me to ask me whether I can come and

Providing Anesthesia For Lung Transplantation
Providing anesthesia for lung transplantation (LT) is considered by many to be a major feat in
cardiothoracic anesthesia. Some say it involves the most complex manipulation of cardiothoracic
physiology, especially when cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is not used. There are many
indications for end stage pulmonary disease, from obstructive lungdisease to pulmonary vascular
disease. Traditionally, ventilation strategies for this population included tidal volumes of 8 12ml/kg
to prevent atelectasis and zero PEEP to prevent a shunt of blood flow (Slinger, 2012). This strategy
proved to cause harm during the periorperative period. Research now indicates that a reduction in
tidal volume with added PEEP not only decreases atelectasis, but it also reduces pulmonary
inflammatory response (Coppola, Froio, Chuimello 2014). These patients already have a decreased
respiratory reserve, therefore inducing an inflammatory mediated response with ventilation settings
can be detrimental and should be avoided at all costs by the nurse anesthetist. It is imperative for
the nurse anesthetist understand the necessity of lung protective ventilation strategies in LT.
Patient Assessment
Lung transplantation surgery is often unpredictable and emergent. Therefore, the preoperative
workup of transplant recipients must be thoroughly performed in advance with appropriate updating
of clinical data and investigations whilst on the waiting list. If the patient has been on the waiting
list for an extended

Study Skills Process Analysis
In class we have learned skills on how to be an active note taker and studier. I have learned in the
past ways to do both; however, the ideas presented were very good ways for some people.
Throughout this essay, I will discuss how to study effectively as well as how to take notes
effectively. I will also what changes I have made to my routine for both. Note taking is an
incredibly valuable skill, because with taking notes, you have nothing to reference when you are
studying. One good way to take notes is by writingdown keywords and follow them with brief
descriptions. This strategy works well because you do not get lost in a mess of information when
studying. Another strategy is drawing a picture of what it makes you think of, so that when you see
the picture it will have the info attached to it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My personal favorite is to use flash cards. Flashcards are just a form of word association, when
you see or hear certain words you immediately start to think of something other than that word.
For example, if you say dessert, I think of Apple Pie, then ice cream. Studying with word
association works the same way, so if I say President, I think of the current president and the
powers of the president. Another way to study effectively is to reward yourself for learning a set of
information. For example, when I finish a chapter of note taking and I know the chapter, I watch
an episode of Parks and Recreation. This way you take a little break as well as doing what you like
to do. Studying this way allows studying to become less of a

differs throughout medical education. Their results indicated that sixth year students had more
positive attitudes toward individuals with schizophrenia compared with second year students
although 38.7 % of the sixth year students still perceived individuals with schizophreniaas being
dangerous. Recently, Danaci and colleagues (32) recruited 106 freshman medical school students,
who did not receive any theoretical or practical training on psychiatry. After 5 years, students who
completed their psychiatry internship were recruited again. Their results revealed that students

She identified five themes from the patients description of schizophrenia: (a) schizophrenia is a
complicated illness, (b) schizophrenia is a mystery, (c) schizophrenia is a lost life, (d) schizophrenia
is a dynamic journey towards recovery, and (e) schizophrenia is a developmental process of
recovery. This study also revealed that patients felt stigmatized and humiliated due to negative
attitudes from society (38). Ertugrul and Ulug (37) indicated that severity of symptoms is linked to
perception of stigma, meaning that patients with more severe symptoms perceived more stigma
than patients with less symptoms. Yildiz and colleagues (39) recruited 167 individuals with
schizophrenia, 45 relatives of individuals with schizophrenia, and 86 individuals with major
depressive disorder to examine self stigma among individuals with schizophrenia, their relatives and
individuals with major depressive disorder. Individuals with schizophrenia were found to have
higher level of self stigma than those with major depressive disorder (39). Yilmaz and Okanli (40)
recruited 63 patients with schizophrenia to examine the effect of internalized stigma on the
adherence to treatment. Their findings revealed that internalized stigma had a negative impact on
the treatment adherence and attitude toward the treatment among individuals with schizophrenia.

Homeless In San Francisco
Homeless in San Francisco San Francisco has a large population of homeless people. San
Francisco is the 13th most populated city and is the eighth worst city homeless rate with
estimated 7,000 homeless in 2015. There are many factors that can result in the high number of
homeless people. One of the most common reasons why is they could not get a job and they just
decided to give up so they don t have enough money to do anything. I think there is a lot of
homeless because we live in a competitive world and there is bigger demand on jobs than there is
supply of it. It is also in San Francisco where the Super Bowl is held once a year. The Super Bowl
is annual championship game of national football league which happens every year. The media does

My Grandparent s House Is Not A Safe Haven
Every person is in need of a home. It is a place that feels natural and welcoming. It instills a sense
of belonging. A home doesn t have to be a specific dwelling, for it has many different definitions
and meanings for each individual. What is universal is the feelings one receives when they are in
their home. It is a place that protects them from the struggles and obstacles that life inevitably
thrusts onto people. It is a safe haven. For me this particular feeling is bestowed upon me every
time I step foot into my grandparents house. My grandparent s house is my home and it will forever
fill me with the unconditional love, happiness and security that my familyhas given my entire life.
My heart is there.

Although food isn t the only treasure my home provides me. Home is bathing in the elegant marble
bathtub with its endless overflowing bubbles. This exquisite tub I named Ol Reliable. Ol
Reliable is an XL power jet tub, equipped with gold colored faucet and golden feet. It is made out
of a silky marble finish that was fit for royalty. Naturally I thought it was the types of bathtubs in
Buckingham Palace and so I felt like the queen herself when I used it. It even had a tempur
pedic pillow for your head, which in the eyes of an eight year old is the most innovative
invention ever seen. Along the edges of the bathtub is shelving for the soaps and other bathing
needs. Bomba has an infinite amount of bath beads, shampoos, loofahs and even exotic tools
such as foot scrubbers with matching foot soap. Of course as a child I d apply basically
everything on my head and throw it into the bathtub. Once I had every bath accessory at my
disposal and a silky pair of my grandmother s pajamas to put on after, I would be finally ready to
add the bubbles. I remember every time when my grandmother was filling up Ol Reliable, she d
say, Only put in two squirts of bubble bath, remember what happened last time... Well every time I

Pope Pius XII and the Jews Essay
The twentieth century was marked by genocides on an monstrous scale. One of the most terrible
was the Holocaust wrought by Nazi Germany, which killed an estimated six million European Jews
and almost as many other victims.
During this dark time, the Catholic Church was shepherded by Pope Pius XII, who proved
himself an untiring foe of the Nazis, determined to save as many Jewish lives as he could. Yet
today Pius XII gets almost no credit for his actions before or during the war.
Anti Catholic author Dave Hunt writes, quot; The Vaticanhad no excuse for its Nazi partnership or
for its continued commendation of Hitler on the one hand and its thunderous silence regarding the
Jewish question on the other hand. . . . [The popes] continued ... Show more content on

The Germans were likewise displeased with the reigning pontiff, Pius XI, who showed himself to
be a unrelenting opponent of the new German quot;ideals quot; even writing an entire encyclical,
Mit Brennender Sorge (1937), to condemn them. When Pius XI died in 1939, the Nazis abhorred
the prospect that Pacelli might be elected his successor.
Dr. Joseph Lichten, a Polish Jew who served as a diplomat and later an official of the Jewish
Anti Defamation League of B nai B rith, writes: quot;Pacelli had obviously established his
position clearly, for the Fascist governments of both Italy and Germany spoke out vigorously
against the possibility of his election to succeed Pius XI in March of 1939, though the cardinal
secretary of state had served as papal nuncio in Germany from 1917 to 1929. . . . The day after
his election, the Berlin Morgenpost said: The election of cardinal Pacelli is not accepted with
favor in Germany because he was always opposed to Nazism and practically determined the
policies of the Vatican under his predecessor. quot;[4]
Former Israeli diplomat and now Orthodox Jewish Rabbi Pinchas Lapide states that Pius XI
quot;had good reason to make Pacelli the architect of his anti Nazi policy. Of

One important thing he emphasized on was to be confident in yourself when speaking to the clients. He gave us an example on the two different ways to approach people, one with intimidation and the other with assertiveness. These examples showed the impact people can make to their audience by how they carry themselves. The sizes of the army, the prolonged battle time, and the inability to pay the soldiers only dug this issue into a deeper grave. The only way the countries could suffice the money to pay their armies back was to tax their people heavily. This foreshadowed the future uprisings of the unfairness of these taxations on the people and how detrimental and destructive it is to their daily lives. Chagall is trying to comment of the relationship of people with the land, which is demonstrated by the man looking at the goat as an equal and also by the woman milking a goat. As there are in many of Chagall s works, there is a spiritual reference in this artwork. The goat and the Star of David are the symbolic references. The goat is a great symbol of sacrifice for the Jewish religion. The colours in the artwork are reminiscent of the circus or other flamboyant events. The man could represent the ringmaster. This could all show the way in which man lives in harmony with animals and the environment. The large circle in the middle of the page could symbolise the sun and the all the chaos surrounding it could show that the earth and everything on it is dependent on the sun for life. The bright colours could also symbolise the fake world, opposed to that of the world when Chagall grew up. In The Green Violinist (1923 24) we see a green man wearing a purple coat, which is composed of geometrical shapes. By 1989, more than 1,000 of the nation s Savings and Loans (S Ls) had failed. This effectively ended what had once been a secure source of home mortgages. Half of the nation s failed S Ls were from Texas, pushing that state into recession. As bad land investments were auctioned off, real estate prices collapsed, office vacancies rose to 30%, and crude oil prices fell 50%. The Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) had been created to insure their deposits, much like the FDIC does today. What Caused the Savings and Loans Crisis? Savings and Loans were specialized banks that used low interest, but federally insured, deposits in savings accounts to fund mortgages. However, in the 1980s, money market accounts became more popular by offering higher interest rates on savings. Consequently, investors became pulling money out of savings accounts, depleting the banks source of funds. S L banks asked Congress to remove the low interest rate restrictions. In 1982, the Garn St. Germain Depository Institutions Act was passed, which allowed S Ls to raiseinterest rates on savings deposits. In addition, the banks were no longer restricted to mortgages, but were allowed to make commercial and consumer loans. Most importantly, the law removed restrictions on loan to value ratios. At the same time, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board regulatory staff was reduced thanks to budget cuts during the Reagan Administration. This system fundamentally drives American society and what makes America particularly attractive to foreigners especially. In a capitalist society, class is not solely based on birthright, but one has the ability to change his/her class based on income. Ideally, the more income a person has, the more freedom and power this person is able to exercise. However, business moguls and government have been known to exploit this fundamental feature of market economy and use it to their advantage by harboring money (power). The colonies along the east coast of North America were settled by mostly English settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries. As the English travelled across the Atlantic Ocean, they not only extended the rule of the English monarchy but also transported their cultural heritage as well. This helps build tension felt by the audience by making them want to understand who Shelby is and to learn why he has killed a man. At the start of the film, the audience does not know his motive and become intrigued as they want to solve the mystery as to why Shelby has committed murder. To further emphasise this, the setting is an empty, isolated room that is low key lit. this is immensely ominous as all the features carries connotations of death. • 23. Racial Prejudice And Stereotypes Stereotypes are generalized, usually negative, but sometimes positive, beliefs about a group of people. Prejudice unjustifiably applies stereotypes to a singe member of the group based on their association with that group. Everyone has different amounts of prejudice, and though most people will not admit to being prejudiced, every single person is prejudiced to some degree. Prejudicecan exist at two different levels, an implicit and an explicit level. Though most people will deny any explicit prejudices, everyone harbors implicit prejudices. Research has shown that people who deny racial prejudice often make negative associations known as implicit racial associations. One cause of negative racial associations is ingroup bias. Since the beginning of time, people have felt the need to belong to certain groups, which lead to prejudice by splitting people into us and them, us being the ingroup, and them being the outgroup. The ingroup, or us, are people who share a common identity, and the outgroup, or them, is anyone who does not share this identity or belong to the same group. Ingroup bias develops shortly after identifying ingroups and outgroups. Prejudice is something that is very prevalent in everyday life. One example of prejudice that has been big recently is the prejudice white law enforcement officers have against African Americans. Samuel Johnson, English writer and essayist, popular in the 19th century, sums up the reality of modern American politics in such a simple sentence. However, the simple warning, unheeded, has surely stymied and gridlocked American government to such an extent, that even the most diehard believers in democracy are finding the current political environment to be permanently toxic and therefore, hopelessly ineffective. When did it all go wrong? While males and females both experience social stressors that contribute to suicide, data has shown that these social stressors have a stronger effect on males (Watt and Sharp, 2001). A Very Brief Biography of Bethoven {Quote about Beethoven} According to musicologist Berry Cooper, Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770 in Bonn, Germany, where his father was the Kapellmeister. His father, Johann, was a respected tenor, violinist, and teacher of both the clavier and the piano. Although Beethoven is not considered a child prodigy, Beethoven did start music at an early age. Around age three, he would often sit on his father s lap and play has his father sang, and abandon his playmates to listen to his father perform. Some historians believe that he started taking formal piano lessons at age five, a normal age to start training in piano, from his father. Between the mix of Beethoven natural talent and his father s pedagogical experience, Beethoven excelled quickly as a piano and violin player. It was said that Beethoven s father was so intent on Beethoven s lessons, that he would often bring Beethoven to tears. When he was seven, he made his public debut in Cologne, with two other of his father s students, where he astounded the audience by the difficulty of music that was played.1 By 1779, his father could no longer teach the young composer and searched for other teachers. After going through many teachers Beethoven found Christian Gottlob Neefe who was the first to allow him to compose. However, public speaking is that opportunity to hold up that mirror to society, and command a change to be made. All of the great social shifts were fueled by the speeches of those who cared. The famous of all being the famous I Have a Dream speech, which still is quoted today. In order for change to take place, an individual must speak up in some sort of public forum to identify the problem. As a passionate person, in my own public speaking experiences, it is extremely easy to let my emotions overpower my logic. Whether this be negative feelings making me too hotheaded to focus, or too passionate and rambling, my own emotions get in my way of public speaking. However, in this film, the character Samantha Brooke was an excellent way to represent people like me. During her tryout to make the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Why I Am A Volunteer Program ... Introduction Dovercourt School is a bilingual school which provides English and Chinese program. The school philosophy is to believe that the students need to be engaged to be deeply successful in their learning. They believe that the students will be successful by persisting studying, overcoming obstacles, and delighting in accomplishing their work. I began to be a volunteer to read mandarin stories to students in mandarin grades three and four in Dovercourt School in Oct 14 and Oct 16. On the one hand, I believe that volunteering activity can create my credibility, build self confidence, develop self awareness, and share the vision. On the other hand, the motivation behind volunteer activity will benefit for those students who need help improve their mandarin knowledge. I How was this activity chosen? When I picked the volunteer project, I have been the volunteer in my son s school for several years. I like to be a volunteer to participate the activity with kids since they are so creative and lovely. Furthermore, the most important point is that I would like to observe my son s development closely. First, I contacted my son s Chinese teacher Ms. Lennon, who is very strict and responsible, and tell her my requirement. She was very supported my decision and let me to read stories to her students. Therefore, I became a volunteer to read mandarin stories this week for my son and his classmates. On this Monday, she emailed me to ask me whether I can come and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Providing Anesthesia For Lung Transplantation Providing anesthesia for lung transplantation (LT) is considered by many to be a major feat in cardiothoracic anesthesia. Some say it involves the most complex manipulation of cardiothoracic physiology, especially when cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is not used. There are many indications for end stage pulmonary disease, from obstructive lungdisease to pulmonary vascular disease. Traditionally, ventilation strategies for this population included tidal volumes of 8 12ml/kg to prevent atelectasis and zero PEEP to prevent a shunt of blood flow (Slinger, 2012). This strategy proved to cause harm during the periorperative period. Research now indicates that a reduction in tidal volume with added PEEP not only decreases atelectasis, but it also reduces pulmonary inflammatory response (Coppola, Froio, Chuimello 2014). These patients already have a decreased respiratory reserve, therefore inducing an inflammatory mediated response with ventilation settings can be detrimental and should be avoided at all costs by the nurse anesthetist. It is imperative for the nurse anesthetist understand the necessity of lung protective ventilation strategies in LT. Patient Assessment Lung transplantation surgery is often unpredictable and emergent. Therefore, the preoperative workup of transplant recipients must be thoroughly performed in advance with appropriate updating of clinical data and investigations whilst on the waiting list. If the patient has been on the waiting list for an extended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Study Skills Process Analysis In class we have learned skills on how to be an active note taker and studier. I have learned in the past ways to do both; however, the ideas presented were very good ways for some people. Throughout this essay, I will discuss how to study effectively as well as how to take notes effectively. I will also what changes I have made to my routine for both. Note taking is an incredibly valuable skill, because with taking notes, you have nothing to reference when you are studying. One good way to take notes is by writingdown keywords and follow them with brief descriptions. This strategy works well because you do not get lost in a mess of information when studying. Another strategy is drawing a picture of what it makes you think of, so that when you see the picture it will have the info attached to it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My personal favorite is to use flash cards. Flashcards are just a form of word association, when you see or hear certain words you immediately start to think of something other than that word. For example, if you say dessert, I think of Apple Pie, then ice cream. Studying with word association works the same way, so if I say President, I think of the current president and the powers of the president. Another way to study effectively is to reward yourself for learning a set of information. For example, when I finish a chapter of note taking and I know the chapter, I watch an episode of Parks and Recreation. This way you take a little break as well as doing what you like to do. Studying this way allows studying to become less of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Homeless In San Francisco Homeless in San Francisco San Francisco has a large population of homeless people. San Francisco is the 13th most populated city and is the eighth worst city homeless rate with estimated 7,000 homeless in 2015. There are many factors that can result in the high number of homeless people. One of the most common reasons why is they could not get a job and they just decided to give up so they don t have enough money to do anything. I think there is a lot of homeless because we live in a competitive world and there is bigger demand on jobs than there is supply of it. It is also in San Francisco where the Super Bowl is held once a year. The Super Bowl is annual championship game of national football league which happens every year. The media does ... • 50. Pope Pius XII and the Jews Essay The twentieth century was marked by genocides on an monstrous scale. One of the most terrible was the Holocaust wrought by Nazi Germany, which killed an estimated six million European Jews and almost as many other victims. During this dark time, the Catholic Church was shepherded by Pope Pius XII, who proved himself an untiring foe of the Nazis, determined to save as many Jewish lives as he could. Yet today Pius XII gets almost no credit for his actions before or during the war. Anti Catholic author Dave Hunt writes, quot; The Vaticanhad no excuse for its Nazi partnership or for its continued commendation of Hitler on the one hand and its thunderous silence regarding the Jewish question on the other hand. . . . When Pius XI died in 1939, the Nazis abhorred the prospect that Pacelli might be elected his successor. Dr. Joseph Lichten, a Polish Jew who served as a diplomat and later an official of the Jewish Anti Defamation League of B nai B rith, writes: quot;Pacelli had obviously established his position clearly, for the Fascist governments of both Italy and Germany spoke out vigorously against the possibility of his election to succeed Pius XI in March of 1939, though the cardinal secretary of state had served as papal nuncio in Germany from 1917 to 1929. . . . The day after his election, the Berlin Morgenpost said: The election of cardinal Pacelli is not accepted with favor in Germany because he was always opposed to Nazism and practically determined the policies of the Vatican under his predecessor. quot;[4] Former Israeli diplomat and now Orthodox Jewish Rabbi Pinchas Lapide states that Pius XI quot;had good reason to make Pacelli the architect of his anti Nazi policy.
