Proposal For Homeless Essay

person without a home, and therefore living on the streets is defined as homeless. America has
numbers of homeless people living without a home or starving from hunger. The solution to this
problem would be the United States providing homeless people with permanent, affordable housing,
and wraparound services. Permanent supportive housing will resolve this issue for our country.
Shelters can be beneficial in providing beds and roofs to people who don t have them, especially on
those cold and rainy nights where sleeping outside could be lethal for some. However, shelters are
unbelievably expensive to function. The average monthly cost of helping a family ... Show more

This is what s called a housing first approach, frequent studies have found it is much more effective
than depending on shelters. This benefits homeless people in long term housing without inquiring
them to get sober or hang onto a job first. Once they are settled in a stable home, they gain access to
services such as drug and alcohol treatment, an assigned social worker, or job training. They do not
have to take advantage of those services, but most people do choose to do so. Several people who
need permanent supportive housing are fighting mental problems or drug and alcohol manipulation,
and would have ended up in institutions. Isolating those homeless people from the rest of society is
like institutionalizing them, and it violates the law. Some housing developments provide both
permanent supportive housing and low income housing, so that homes can be made available to larger
amounts of the population. This kind of mixed use housing helps create communities. This includes,
single moms living in affordable housing aiding ex cons living in supportive housing, and vice versa.
This and other experiences suggest that integrating supportive and low income housing can be

Analysis Of The Book The Of By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Waknuk is the hometown of David, Petra and Rosalind; the three had to flee their home by night when
they got news of Sally and Katherine being captured. David and Petra left home and travelled down a
path to the riverbank, where they met up with Rosalind. For their travel they utilized two great horses
owned by Rosalind s father to go on their journey for safety. David, Petra and Rosalind travelled in a
southwesterly direction until they came to a stop in the early morning. The three started their journey
again in the late of the evening through the night in the same direction till they came to a stop in
Labrador, where Petra was sending letter shapes to the Sealand woman of their current location. They
continued on their journey until the break of dawn and then rested. Just after sunrise Michael informed
them that he and the search party were on their trail and they needed to get going. David, Petra and
Rosalind hustled their things together and made their way, continuing in a southwesterly direction into
Wild Country. They made another stop in Wild Country to eat. When it was a little darker they pushed
on towards the Fringes, until they were captured by the Fringes people and taken even further into the
Fringes. Eventually, the Sealand woman rescued David, Petra and Rosalind and they travelled to
Zealand via a flying craft that she had came in during the evening.
This selection was chosen, as it was a major transition in the story of The Chrysalids. David, Petra and

Military Life Experience Research Paper
Medved.Session1.Journal
In this Journal I will be writing about my life experience of retiring out of the military and how it has
influenced the beginning of my academic work and goals at Colorado Christian
University (CCU). I will first explain my decision to get out of the military and how that decision as
well as my first job transformed my college goals. I will next explain how this lesson further
confirmed my assumptions on my college career. Finally, I will write about how I plan to apply what I
have learned through my experiences, guidance of God, and this lesson to achieve my college goals at
CCU. Hopefully this journal will help you better understand me and why I am choosing the path of
Business Administration for my college degree. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hope that by learning in a meaningful way I will be less distracted and excited to learn verses putting
it off. Next let s look at my way forward at CCU after my transition and what this lesson taught me.
After my transformation from military to civilian and learning more about myself in this lesson, I now
have a better picture of how to accomplish my goals. First and foremost, I need to stop using being
busy as an excuse to not get my degree done. I have let too much time pass me by and there will
always be life reasons to hold me back if I let them. The short video clip Ask
It (Stanly, 2015) fits me perfectly regarding how I need to stop making excuses and use my
experiences and take action. Also, knowing I have overcome many obstacles has made me stronger
and increased my ability to push forward. I believe I can better educate myself while
helping others in the process. Helping others is the best way for me to learn the most about myself and
guide me to the right path. I watched ahead and the video for the next assignment,
The Extra Mile (Hoyt, 2008), is a perfect example of how helping others helps you find

Discuss The Difference Between New England And The...
After waiting over 100 years before England joined the race for colonization, in 1607 England has
finally established a permanent colony in Jamestown. Years later, in 1620, supposedly trying to land in
Virginia, the Puritans accidentally landed in Plymouth Massachusetts. Therefore, while New England
and the Chesapeake region were both settled and ruled by the English, by the 1700s they had evolved
into two very separate distinct societies due to the differences in colonization, settlers, and economic
activities in each region.
The difference in colonization led to distinct societies between New England and the Chesapeake
regions. In 1607, after Sir Walter Raleigh s colony of Roanoke was unsuccessful, Jamestown was
successfully colonized and was due to an economic purpose. As stated by John Smith, Dig gold, wash
gold, refine gold, load gold (Doc 5). John Smith clearly shows how the colonists only cared about
riches. They didn t care about establishing a colony as they were occupied and focused on the path to
riches. More than half of us died (Doc 5). Due to this greed of riches and lack of control in the colony,
many settlers as a consequence died. However, due to John Smith and his control over the colony, led
Jamestown to not fail like the colony of Roanoke. Now while colonists focused on the economic gain
they would receive from Jamestown, the Puritans focused on the religious freedom they would finally
acquire. Now the Puritans wanted to separate from the Church of

London Dockland Case Study
For places both rural and urban to maintain development and a strong economy they must rebrand. To
keep with the times so to speak place must continue to redevelop in a number of ways. Both areas are
at risk of becoming derelict and poverty struck if they don t regenerate.
One of the main causes of decline is a lack of employment. In many areas with one ruling industry
when the industry collapses the town is left with high levels of unemployment. As countries continue
to develop their primary and secondary sectors shrink as it becomes cheaper for TNC s to outsource
work to other cheaper countries. This among other reasons can leave towns and cities in decline as
there are no longer jobs available and people have to move away for work or stay unemployed which
has bad economic effects.
An example of this happening in an urban area is the London Docklands. In the 19th century it was
the busiest port in the world however by the 1960 s bigger boats were being used and the docks weren
t deep enough for this. The docks were closed leaving lots of derelict land, few jobs and lots of social
problems. However the docklands were successfully rebranded with the introduction of the LDDC. In
1981, the London Docklands Development Corporation set about regenerating London Docklands ...

The decline in agriculture in the UK has reduced employment and caused economic problems in rural
areas. The lack of job opportunities results in out migration of young people, resulting in an ageing
population. Eventually a spiral of decline happens as problems breed problems rebranding is needed to
break this. Attracting new business and tourists through rebranding will increase employment and
services. This will then encourage young people to stay in the area, and new people to move to the
area. In rural areas for the most part there won t be any flagship projects and community projects and

why United States soldiers are known as the best in the world. Non commissioned officers changing to

Sexually Transmitted Diseases Are Caused By A Wide Range...

Immunotherapeutic Strategies
Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by a wide range of viruses. The most common viruses are:
HIV 1, HSV 1/2, and HPV. Often the contraction of these viruses goes undiagnosed until the patient
has acquired severe symptoms, by this time they have also transferred the disease to another
individual. For this reason, the importance of developing and understanding immunotherapeutic
strategies has become essential for immunologists (5). There are many factors that contribute to viral
infection, therefore, targeting these virus specific factors is a key to preventing viral spread to
neighboring cells. Factors like viral attachment, entry, un coating, synthesis, assembly, and ... Show

Cytokine therapy has been a crucial advance in the treatment of HIV because this disease is highly
affiliated with cytokine production. Cytokines are inserted in tumor cells as immune stimulatory genes
(5). Following insertion, the patient is injected with a cytokine based vaccine which is used as a
therapeutic measure for cancer prevention in patients that have HPV. Activation of cytokines (IL 2, IL
12, GM CSF) have been theorized to inhibit the growth on tumors. HIV is linked to a decline of the
host s immune system response and decrease of CD4 T cells, therefore cytokine therapy enables the
production of these cells by treating patients with IL 2 (5). HPV has been associated with cancer and
there is no cure for HPV, however, there are preventative and therapeutic medications (2,6). In the
case of HPV vaccination, natural killer cells are activated which induce an immune response. Immune
modulators have suppressive and stimulatory effects on macrophages. Stimulation allows for the
secretion of cytokines which allows the immune system to produce antibodies due to the high antigen
presentation in dendritic cells.
Although these viruses often remain undetected, HSV typically causes a more visible and painful
reaction in the infected tissues. Shedding of the HSV virus is prominent when the symptoms occur (1).

Although the word is often applied loosely, Puritan refers to two distinct groups: separating Puritans,
such as the Plymouth colonists, who believed that the Church of England was corrupt and that true
Christians must separate themselves from it; and non separating Puritans, such as the colonists who
settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony, who believed in reform but not separation. Most Massachusetts
colonists were non separating Puritans who wished to reform the established church, largely
Congregationalists who believed in forming churches through voluntary compacts. The idea of
compacts or covenants was central to the Puritans conception of social, political, and religious
organizations. Since the Puritans settled in Massachusetts, the colony began with much democracy
like town councils supported by Puritan religion. They also caused an exodus of people who believed
differently from them and were in the colony. This exodus led to the creation of Rhode Island,
Connecticut and New Hampshire. Roger Williams founded Rhode Island when he was exiled for

The Hunger Artist Essay
In the allegory, The Hunger Artist by Franz Kafka, the narrator spectates a strange public presentation
by performance artist known only as the Hunger Artist. Kafka paints a picture of extreme isolation and
alienation intensely saturated with meaning, in a straightforward and fact based tone. The parable of
this strange story is definitely subjective, albeit ironic, laden with poignant lessons of how disengaged
people are from their peers individual journeys and struggles. Allegories are known for their richness
in symbolism and hidden meanings, and the Hunger Artist certainly lives up to the expectations of an
allegory. Kafka narrates in an omnipresent third person point of view, giving away few clues about the
characteristics of the cast or the setting. This approach supports Kafka s theme of alienation and
makes the readers feel as though they are also spectators, watching the fasting performance for
themselves. The tone Kafka uses lends itself useful to effective foreshadowing, clueing the readers in

The hunger artist is the major character, hopelessly devoted to his art of fasting. Kafka created a
perfect paradox of a protagonist, a character relying upon the very thing that he denounces. With
reckless abandon, the hunger artist renounces all hopes of comfort to achieve the impossible,
attempting to surpass his allotted forty days of fasting. The hunger artist strives to express himself
through his art of fasting but fails to see how his individualism alienates him from others. The hunger
artist embraces his martyrdom and devotion to fasting by moving from a cage on a crowded street
corner to a cage outside of a circus big top, near exotic animals. While the onlookers eventually lose
interest in the hunger artist, his blind devotion shows him nothing but his longing for admiration and

Analysis Of Argument Against Headphones By Virginia Heffernan
Analysis of Argument Against Headphones A century has passed since the creation of headphones, yet
they have only recently come under fire. Headphones provide a way for people to listen to music,
audiobooks, and podcasts privately without disrupting others around them. However, all of this private
listening may soon fall on deaf ears. In Virginia Heffernan s article Against Headphones , she presents
an argument stating that although headphones are useful in some professions, they cause substantial
hearing loss, especially in young people. The formulated argument is effective and valid, and
incorporates ethos, logos, and opposing viewpoints with rebuttals.

Heffernan also illustrates how headphones work, stating, when an audio current passes through the
device s voice coil, it creates an alternating magnetic field that moves a stiff, light diaphragm
(Heffernan, 2011). Describing the history of headphones and how the technology works portrays
Heffernan as a reasonable author with a deep understanding of her subject matter, which earns the
trust and respect of the audience.
Logos
Incorporating logical appeals into her writing allows Heffernan to reach a larger audience by
providing factual support as backing for the argument. The author writes, the number of teenagers
with hearing loss... has jumped 33 percent since 1994 (Heffernan, 2011). By using a statistic as a
logical premise in support of prohibiting headphones, the author sheds light on the harsh reality of
headphone use: more young people experience hearing loss. When discussing the history of
headphones, the author states, workers and soldiers have long used [headphones] to mute out the din
of machinery or artillery while receiving one way orders from someone with a microphone
(Heffernan, 2011). Heffernan recognizes a factual use of headphones while at the same time
acknowledging that headphones are useful in some instances, which helps to strengthen her argument.
Heffernan then goes on to say, headphone users who listen to

The Involvement Of Child Protective Services
In this research proposal the independent variable is the involvement of Child Protective Services.
Child Protective Service s involvement is measured based on a questionnaire, which ask the
participant have they ever had any previous Child Protective Service involvement, and if so when?
The research will include both participants who have answered yes and no to this question.
Furthermore, if the participant has answered yes, they will only be included if the Child Protective
Service involvement was in the last five years. The dependent variable in the research is the risk
factors of child maltreatment, as measured by the Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory. The three risk
factors that will be examined as part of this research are parental empathy towards children s needs,
the use of corporal punishment, and expectations of children. The source of the data was originally
collected through an intake process. The information regarding our independent variable is collected

Members of a family are like the patches of a patchwork quilt. Like the patches of the quilt, family
members are of different sizes, shapes, and colors but although different they all play a part in creating

Example Of Historiografiction In Literature
One of the noticeable themes of postmodernism is the distorting of lines between fiction and
nonfiction. In the hands of a talented writers, making it up and telling the truth can exist
simultaneously and comfortably beside one another. Writers of this genre know that it is obvious to the
reader that they are lying to tell the truth. More exactly, these writers lie openly to tell the truth so that
their moral position as storytellers exists in their ability to lie openly and cleverly. A term
historiografiction meaning postmodern mixture of the words historiography and fiction means the
literary treatment of persons or events from the past. Historiografiction is mainly disturbed with
character and theme; in contrast, historical fiction is started by plot, setting, details or lifestyle. A
traditional historical expectations and neutrality is an important element in the postmodern
questioning, and it issues authors to investigate the possibilities of previously immersed character and
points of view in real events from the past.

Buffalo Bill Wild West Summary
The westward expansion of American citizens was a progressive action that helped the nation to move
forward during the mid eighteen hundreds. The land that was being claimed came to be known as the
frontier and few people settled there due to the perceived threat of Indians and what they thought was
a lack of economic opportunity. This land was taken over by farmers and herders that controlled
buffalo and used the fertile soil to make a living. The story of Buffalo Bill s Wild West: Celebrity,
Memory, and Popular History shows how a man can start with nothing and grow to be a publicly
recognized figure. The author of this story, Joy S. Kasson, recounts Buffalo Bill s life and the
decisions he made along the way along with how the actions he took affected the events around him.
This story, that takes a biographic approach, tells of Buffalo Bill s influence in society as a showman
and in the perceived image of the wild west during this time.
What were the author s main claims and how did she defend them? The author claims that William
Cody, also known as Buffalo Bill, found success through luck and that his success was very fortunate
and highly unlikely. In the biography the author writes, In the process of becoming an international
celebrity, Cody both followed and diverged from familiar pathways in the search for success and
respectability that led many others to debt, obscurity, and failure (page 12). Cody s experiences and
decisions would not seem to lead to such

Why The North Won The Civil War Dbq
The civil war was a battle between the union and the confederacy to preserve the union. The war took
4 years for the north to win, and near the end of the war, the north was also fighting to end slavery.
The north won the war because they had more resources, better strategies, and better transportation.
First off, the north had more resources. This can easily be seen when looking at the North versus
South chart. The chart shows different types of resources, such as workers, factories, railroads,
firearms, and a few other useful things that are needed for a war. The graph then shows a bar graph for
each of those resources, showing in each one, that north has a big advantage over south with that
resource. Firearms, for example, is a resource ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen in the Major Battles of the Civil War map. The map shows all of the battles that took
place during the civil war. The map also shows big line all around the confederate states in the water,
named Union blockade of Ports. This line is showing where they had ships positioned so no resources
could get in or out of the south. (Document 2). This document shows that the Union had a plan for this
war that was more strategic than just fighting to the death. This plan was called the anaconda plan, and
it was a plan to squeeze the confederate states out of resources. This line of Union blockade were on
water, and land. During the war, the Union blockade became smaller and smaller, containing all of the
confederacy to a smaller area. This is one way that helped the Union win the war in the end. Another
example of the Union having better strategies than the Confederacy is Sherman s Scorched Earth
Campaign. Plantations were burned, crops destroyed and stores of food pillaged. In the wake of his
progress to the sea he left numerous Sherman sentinels (the chimneys of burnt out houses) and

Essay about achieving success and virtual teams
Case Analysis 3
Achieving Success in Virtual Teams
Overview: In today s competitive world, companies are gradually vacating their cubicles and enter
into the virtual workforce to increase work efficiency, reduce cost and resolve organizational problems
(Ahmed Ebrahim, 2009). Nowadays, companies are investing a bulk amount of money on virtual
teams to enhance their performance since it has become an indispensable prerequisite for companies
to stay in competitive in the era of globalization (Ahmed Ebrahim, 2009). Virtual teams consist of

348). Virtual team members have to be more self motivated and disciplined in their assigned work and
they must be proficient in using variety of tech tools in order to accomplish their task (Settle Murphy,
2009). Likewise, Virtual team members have to have the ability to manage their time effectively and
those who can understand that how much time they need to get their task done are usually far more
productive which in turns contribute to the success of virtual team. Moreover, communication
effectiveness and stimulating work are the two vital features of actuating the success or failure of
virtual teams; for instance, team members should know what to communicate, how and when and the
whole communication process should be concise and lucid to avoid any misinterpretation (Nelson
Quick, 2013, p. 348). In contrast, the failure of virtual teams relies on several things wherein people
play a major part in the context of virtual arena; for example, a consulting service company; NetAge
reveals the fact that the percentage of having failure of virtual teams is around 90% of people (Nelson
Quick, 2013, p. 348). Vagueness in communication might lead to the failure of virtual teams; for
instance, if the message is unclear and tough to comprehend then it would hamper the work procedure

Emily Dickinson s Poetry Final Essay

Final Exam
Essay Question A Through the process of my liberal arts education, I have had several teachers and
professors praise and crucify the biographical approach to literary analysis. Dickinson is perhaps more
mysterious than any other writer I have studied. Part of the mystery has been created by analysts
trying to decipher the meaning of poems written by a reclusive woman who published little of her
work while still alive. During her life, Dickinson was not famous. Her fame and much of her profile
has been created after her death. In an attempt to decipher her work, several literary scholars have
used a biographical approach to Emily Dickinson and her poetry. My knowledge about Dickinson s ...

God s Metamorphosis Of The Tower Of Babel
Before the Fall of Man everything was good. God created humankind in his own image and left us to
take care of the world. In the Garden of Eden, Heaven and Earth were one and God will many times
would walk and talk to Adam. Yet, with paradise and completeness with God, Adam and Eve fell short
and disobeyed the rule that God gave them. Sin entered the world through humanity and tainted the
relationship we had with Him and the creation as a whole. Although humanity has been the conduit of
destruction in this world, God has a plan to redeem creation through humanity. God s threefold plan to
restore creation begins with His covenant with Israel, depends on His son Jesus, and ends with the
church seeking out to join Heaven and Earth.
God starts His plan by choosing a man by the name of Abram, whom God changes his name to
Abraham. In Genesis 12, God tells Abraham that He will make of [Abraham] a great nation. At this
point of Genesis this promise gives the reader hope, because after the Fall of Man, humanity mounted
towards a path of self destruction. By Genesis 11, in the story of the tower of Babel, God seems
dissatisfied with humankind and makes it difficult to communicate among one another. The story of
Abraham gives hope that God will make a great nation from a man, whom is just as impure as the rest
of humanity. God continues his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Video Game Industry and the Objectification and...
How can an industry with widespread appeal to men and women continue to misrepresent and
misgender women? Video games have been used as a platform for entertainment between the ages of
18 and 49. The entertainment factor of video games comes from the various forms of art, cultures,
worlds, languages, and stories that come from each individual game. The male players of video games
lead the market, causing the industry of video games to create games that would appeal to males, such
as creating female characters that would attract them. Because of this, female video game players have
become the minority in the video game industry. Although video game companies claim to target all
types of video game players, women have become the victims of patriarchal sexism by being
objectified and stereotyped as a way to increase sales. A fact that contributes to the objectification and
stereotyping of women is that as of 2011, 56% of video game players are male, and the other 44% are
female ( Essential Facts 4). This discrepancy caused video game industries to create games that will
sell to the majority the male players. However, the 44% of female players are still considered a large
consumer group (Shanley 11). Despite the 12% discrepancy between male and female players,
industries that have chosen to focus solely on their male consumers can be seen as patriarchal. This
patriarchy has caused video game industries to create games that would appeal to male gamers only (

Jmima Emerson s Character Qualities
When you think of young women in the late 1700s what comes to mind? For me it is a taskful life
filled with chores and taking care of siblings and being sold off and married when the time comes, not
for this brave adolescent.Time Enough For Drums written by Ann Rinaldi includes a main character
Jemima Emerson. She is a 15 year old girl who lives in Trenton, New Jersey and is not ready for what
is coming in the future. Through the book Jemima encounters much chaos that gives her no choice but
to grow up and take charge. You would never think a teenager would have as much sense of humor,
responsibility and be as vindictive as Jemima Emerson.
Jemima Emerson has many different character traits that all describe her and her unique personality. To
begin with, Jem is very brave. She has to deal with so much throughout the book that she does not let
get to her. She deals with everything in a mature and sophisticated manner. For example, she had to go
through father dying, mothers grieving period and Raymond. When Jems father died it was a massive
loss for her whole family, including her but she had to be the first to live with the pain because her
mother didn t forgot about everyone and everything and moved into the Moore s because she could
not deal with the heartache, Jem had to get her out of this phase and let mother know father s death
was not her fault . Next, Jem had to deal with the loss of a close friend. Raymond Moore had gotten

Oppositional Defiant Disorder Analysis
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is one of the most prevailing and expensive mental health
problems for children and teen agers. Approximately 5% to 10% of 8 to 16 year olds present with
ODD behavior problems ( Erford,et al. 2013). Oppositional Defiant Disorder is part of the disruptive
behavior disorders (DBD) group, given this name because those who are diagnosed disrupt people in
their environment. According to the American Academy of Child Adolescent Psychiatry from 2013,
physicians define ODD as a pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior directed toward
authority figures. Children and adolescents with ODD often rebel, are stubborn, argue with adults, and
refuse to obey. They have angry outbursts and have a hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These patterns last for at least 6 months (APA, 2013). ODD has also been associated with excessive
arguing, cognitive and social deficits, and significant adult child and child peer interaction problems.
Youth with ODD demonstrate high rates of aggressive and antisocial behaviors, with a subset
displaying callousness and psychopathic traits, including a lack of guilt, empathy, and remorse. It is
important to note the difference between ODD and CD (conduct disorder). The defining characteristic
of oppositional defiant disorder is a fight against being controlled. For a child like this, being
controlled feels like drowning. CD is used to describe an older child or adolescent who has moved
into a pattern of violating the rights of others through intimidation or aggression. This could be against
people or animals, and include more serious violations such as theft and vandalism.. The DSM 5, a
diagnostic handbook used by mental health professionals, describes these individuals as having a
callous and unemotional interpersonal style. (Colins Andershed, 2015). These adolescents lack
empathy. Children with CD and callous unemotional (CU) traits present with patterns of persistent and
violent antisocial behaviour which include low empathy and guilt and shallow affect. Currently, CU is
considered a subtype for conduct disorder, according to the

Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant
Wastewater treatment systems are very important to providing clean, drinkable water to its
surrounding societies. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from
household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. Processes include physical,
chemical and biological manipulation of contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body
for consumption. There are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of which
have separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up with recycled
potable water.
First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where heavy solids
settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and lighter solids float to the top.
Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with washer compactors that remove a majority of
non fine solid material waste. Other airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. Fine screens as also
used to capture the finer waste material that flows through the primary larger hole bar screens. They
can often have two different sizes of bar screens that help in removing as much sold material waste
before moving onto secondary treatment. The finer screens are used to capture plastics that come into
the system.
Secondary treatment removes dissolved material and biological matter that is suspended between the
top and bottom of the tank. Secondary treatment involves the use of

hand, I thought it was a bold design, one that was a clean departure from the previous model, while

consumers would think as they are the final arbiters of car design.
It turns out the horseshoe grille, floating roof, and wild tail lights have done nothing to discourage
buyers. Indeed, after five years of steady declines, Maxima sales this year are better than what we ve

Stonehenge Vs. Easter Island
Stonehenge vs. Easter Island Stonehenge and Easter Island are two very old and interesting mysteries
and monuments of the world. Stonehenge is outside of Salisbury, England and is consists of lots of
grass and giant, grey stones. This site was made between the times of 1520 B.C.E 3000 B.C.E. There
are many reasons why people think Stonehenge was built. Stonehenge was built it using precise stages
of construction. Archaeologists said it could have been used for rituals, traditions or even used as a
burial site. Easter Island, itself is off the coast of Chile. The Easter Island statues or Moai as called on
the Island are big black rocks with long slim faces. The statues seemed to have been used in many
different ways such as rituals, worshipping and traditions. While the Easter Island statues were used
for worshipping and were carved and then moved, Stonehenge may have been used as a burial site or
for ritualistic traditions and was made in different stages in one place. Stonehenge is complex yet,

Defining The Constitution Ambit Within India Essay
INTRODUCTION: To define the constitution ambit within which right to life with human dignity
especially right to life livelihood and holistic approach is sine qua non of the constitutional framework
in India. All those things which go all along with the life and make it worth living comes within this.
The right to live basically does not mean the bare life as it was said by Georgio Agamben in his
HOMO SACER book, the life is basically full of all those things which makes life worth living and it
includes the health aspect, the societal values in the status particularly in the norms within the society;
in all those things which make the life with dignity; hence it is not animal life but a political one.
Supreme Court in many judgments held that the life is not bare life devoid of all things in society
rather it includes the basic values which makes life worth living. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi:
According to me, the economic constitution of India, and for the matter of that of the world, should be
such that no one under it should suffer from want of food and clothing. In other words, everybody
should be able to get sufficient work to enable him to make the two ends meet. And, this ideal can be
universally realized only if the means of production of elementary necessaries of life remain under the
control of the masses. These should be freely available to all as God s air and water are, or ought to
be; they should not be made a vehicle of traffic for the exploitation of

The Effects Of Methyl Isocyanate On The World s Worst...

The Power Of Money In The Great Gatsby
The Power of Pennies Money is a power that comes with a price. In the 1920 s during the great
depression, money was a huge issue, because of all the people losing their jobs. This caused people to
do whatever they can to get it. In The Great Gatsby the characters suffer from a similar problem: They
all want money, but not all of them have it. They then do whatever they have to do to climb to the top
of the social ladder. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the motif money is power through the
characters Daisy, Myrtle, and Gatsby. Daisy would suffer through any pain as long as she got to be
rich. Gatsby conveys Daisy s lust for money when he says, Her voice is full of money (Fitzgerald
120). Daisy wants money more than anything else; even to the point that it shows in her voice and
actions. Everything she does is meticulously planned around keeping her social status and access to
money alive but not around her own happiness. She is even referred to as The king s daughter and The
golden girl further showing her desire for money(Fitzgerald 120). Daisy perfectly shows how money
can take control of life as it did to hers. Without her desire for money, Daisy would not have done
most of the things she ended up doing in The Great Gatsby. Daisy will be shaped forever by the crude
force of Tom s money (Jr. Leland S). To Daisy, the force of money is so strong that she will allow
others to control how she lives just to obtain its power. Even though Tom is the one who has

Peer Group Belonging Research
The peer group is viewed as a microsystem because it is made up of roles, relationships, and activities
(Berns, 2016). Peers are individuals who are of approximately the same gender, age, and social status,
and who share interests. When children share different experiences with their peers, it allows them to
obtain a number of skills, attitudes, and roles that will guide their adaptation throughout life. Peer
groups are important socializers. Peer groups contribute beyond the way that families and school
affect socialization. Peers contribute to the socialization process by satisfying certain basic needs: the
need of belonging to a group and interact socially, and the need to develop a sense of self (Berns,
2016). Belonging needs and socialization develops throughout the childhood. In the infancy stage, the
sense of belonging develops first within the family. An example of this would be when my mom
would comfort me when I was a baby during thunder storms because I was terrified of them. With my

Fossil Fuels Are Not Dead Dinosaur Remains
Madison Flanagan Contradictory to what many people believe, fossil fuels are not dead dinosaur
remains. In fact, most of the fossil fuels we find today were formed millions of years before the first
dinosaurs ( Fossil Energy: How Fossil Fuels Were Formed, n.d.). They were formed from prehistoric
plants and animals that lived many millions of years ago and are considered non renewable because
they are not sustainable and cannot be easily replaced due to their formation taking billions of years.
When these ancient living things died, they decomposed and became buried under layers and layers of
mud, rock, and sand. Eventually, hundreds and sometimes thousands of feet of earth covered them (
Fossil Energy: How Fossil Fuels Were Formed, n.d.). In some areas, these materials were covered by
ancient seas before they dried up. During the millions of years that passed, the dead plants and animals
slowly decomposed into organic materials and formed fossil fuels. Different types of fossil fuels were
formed depending on what combination of animal and plant debris was present, how long the material
was buried, and what conditions of temperature and pressure existed when they were decomposing (
Fossil Energy: How Fossil Fuels Were Formed, n.d.). For example, oil and natural gas were created
from plants and/or animals that lived in the water and were buried under bodies of water such as
oceans, rivers, etc.

It has often been asserted that differences in the two candidates television personae accounted in part
for Kennedy s election victory. Some, however, dispute the significance of the televised 1960 debates,
suggesting that while visual cues undoubtedly have the potential to influence voter perceptions, the
nature and extent of the influence remain a matter of speculation (Pendell and Vancil P.54 1988).
Furthermore; Keyton (1989) points out that Debates involving candidates for the 1988 presidential
nomination carry a similar message. Results of a study of college students revealed the finding that the
winner of the 1988 debate was predicted by perceptions of the candidate who projected the strongest
personal image, the greatest credibility, the most logical arguments, and the strongest emotional
appeals. Furthermore, voter preferences expressed after a first debate were strong predictors of
eventual candidate choice. In some political campaigns, even the lack of debates can have
significance. George Bush s successful 1988 presidential campaign employed debate avoidance, a
reliance upon emotional appeals and ridicule, and a de emphasis of issues. Both of the major U.S.
political parties have used such strategies, considered to be departures from ethical behavior (Kelly
1990). Men and women react differently to the media analysis that generally follows political debates.

Mr Smith Goes to Washington Movie Questions
Mr. Smith goes to Washington movie questions 1. This film is saying the American democracy can be
easily corrupted. The film portrays that it takes strong, determined men with much integrity to stand
up for what they know is right. 2. In today s world there would be some mixed reactions to a senator
like Jefferson Smith. Some people would disapprove of him because he is not the characteristic
senator and has no political experience. They would think that he was young, and inexperienced, and
that he did not deserve to be in such a highly respected position. Other people would love that he was
standing up for what he knew was right, and that he was doing what needed to be done against those
people who take advantage of our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She knows that other people have much control over the government and is quite cynical. Mr. Smith is
a pure, truthful man who loves and trusts his government. He wants to do what is right for the people
and wants to make his country proud. However, by the end of the movie these attitudes change. By the
end the events that occur open Mr. Smith s eyes to how the government really operates. He sees how
this one powerful man can control his whole state and turn them all against him. He may still be the
same good man he was before but he has had a look inside of how the government operates and may
not be as trusting as he once was. Saunders has been filled with hope by the change that one senator
could make. His struggle and challenge motivates her and she becomes much happier than she ever
was before as she sees how all of her hard work has paid off and that she really has made a difference.
10. I do not believe that the statement Government positions are sold to the highest bidder is
completely true. It is obviously the case in some instances as we have seen in the movie, but we also
see how a great man like Jefferson Smith can get into office as well. The people elect senate seats, and
while funds can get you a long way, in the end it is still up to the people to elect a person into office. I
would not like to think that all of our government is as corrupt as some of the people in this

Rain M Charlie s Brother, Self Actualization
Abstract Psychology is the study of the human mind, including its functions and how it can affect one
s behavior. Many sources of media attempt to portray different principles of psychology by working
them into entertainment, such as movies. Rain Man is one famous example that successfully depicts
important psychological concepts and is actually based off of a real person, Kim Peek. During the
beginning of the movie, Charlie Babbit discovers that his father has passed and has neglected to leave
him his 3 million dollar inheritance. Instead, the fortune has been left to another man, his long lost
brother. After discovering his brother, Raymond, Charlie finds out another shocking and unknown
piece of his past. Not only is Raymond Charlie s brother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Charlie and Raymond sit with a lawyer, Charlie tries to convince that he is fit to take care of
Raymond and that Raymond would rather live with him over his mental facility. Charlie recaps all of
his great memories with Raymond without even realizing it. When they tell him that Raymond has to
back to where he was living before, Charlie settles for visiting with Raymond. This is where Charlie
finally realizes what it feels like to genuinely love someone. The realization allows him to learn how
selfish and rude he has been acting all of his life. Not only does Charlie experience companionate love
for most likely the first time in his life, he also begins to get a feeling for who he really is. This feeling
is known as self actualization. Although the movie ends before the audience can see the aftermath of
his journey, it is somewhat understood that Charlie is a changed man afterwards. He begins to see the
little things in life that matter. He appreciates Raymond s needs above his own. He also tries to
become a better man for Raymond, which is another characteristic of

Wyandotte County is located in the middle of the United States in Kansas. The county contains the
cities of Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, and Kansas City. Wyandotte s neighboring counties are
Johnson and Leavenworth counties in Kansas, and Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties in Missouri. The
county was actually named after the Wyandot Indians who once inhabited the land (Wyandotte
County, 2010). Those who live in the region have coined the area with nicknames such as the Heart of
America, KCK, and the Dot. With 163,831 people, Wyandotte County is the 4th most populated
county in the state of Kansas out of 105 counties (Kansas Demographics, n.d.). According to Kansas

Oil Sands
In this essay I will use the social issue of oil sands and its impact on climate change to critically
compare the social order and class struggle perspectives in social theory. To examine the social order
perspective, I will use the theories of Robert Merton and Harold Garfinkel. For the class perspective
theory, I will use the theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Immanuel Wallenstein. The social order
perspective explains the social issue of climate change in terms of how the social structures of the
economy enforce and produce the ways in which people discuss climate change. Its main strength is
that it identifies how the economy is able to shape discussions and create a sense of order around the
opposing conflict of interest between the economy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Merton s theory derives from the fundamentalist perspective in which he defines manifest functions as
the easily recognizable and intended outcomes, whereas latent functions are unintended. Merton
argues the distinction between manifest and latent functions has significant value and that both
functions need to be recognized as an approach to explaining any social phenomena (Powell 2017:
Feb 15). Latent functions are not necessarily the anticipated outcome, however a closer examination
of this function can lead to a better understanding of a social relation or patterns observed (Longofer
Winchester, 2016). For instance, in applying the social issue of climate change to Merton s manifest
and latent theory, it is clear the manifest function of oil sands is for refineries to extract the oil to
produce fuel (energy source). As a result of increased reliance on oil sands as fuel, the process of
refining oil and clearing land to extract the oil from these oil sands, releases tons of pollution into the
atmosphere, creating the phenomena known as climate change. The perceived function of oil sands is
not to harmful to the environment, however; it becomes the negative consequence of the objective.
Although the manifest function does not recognize that the use of oil sands leads to an increased threat
of the environment, the latent function is able to identify the relationship. This latent function leads to
the reexamination of the use of oil sand and how our society collectively moves on about making
informed decisions regarding both the production and the rate at which we use

The Importance Of Belonging To A Community
Many individuals when asked can identify themselves as belonging to a community. According to the
Oxford dictionary (2010) one definition of community is; all the people who live in a particular area,
country etc. when talked about as a group (p.301). The definition of a community however is
dependent on those who are defining it. Communities can also be defined as the grouping of
individuals who share similar qualities such as religion, race, etc. or who feel a sense of belonging to a
specific group. With the many variations of communities it is unsurprising that a community and its
definition do not always remain the same. Communities shift and morph as the people and
environments within them do the same, some flourish and others crumble. To better understand a
community and its wellbeing, identifying its strengths and needs are essential. Looking within the
community for these identifications and definitions are necessary. Social workers can play a role in
assisting communities to identify their needs and strengths. Social workers can further support and
empower community members to mobilize towards social action and change for their community s
development. The neighborhood of west Broadway is its own community. Its geographical boundaries
have been identified as encompassing the area between Portage Ave (north perimeter line) to River
(south perimeter line) as well as Osborne Street (east perimeter line) to Maryland (west perimeter
line). Within this

By chance if user suspect the existence of information, then no way for user to access the information.
1.1 Problem Statement In first we had linguistic steganography. Which is technique of allowing any
kind of digital information to hide within text based on some linguistic knowledge. But one
disadvantage of linguistic steganography is that you should have good knowledge of linguist. In recent
years as we know the development in technology and the digital data or information is transmitted
through network very easily. So the message should be transmitted safely and with security by using

  • 2. Proposal For Homeless Essay Kaila Rose ENGLISH 1102 Mr. Charles Farmer October 17, 2017 A Proposal to Less Homelessness A person without a home, and therefore living on the streets is defined as homeless. America has numbers of homeless people living without a home or starving from hunger. The solution to this problem would be the United States providing homeless people with permanent, affordable housing, and wraparound services. Permanent supportive housing will resolve this issue for our country. Shelters can be beneficial in providing beds and roofs to people who don t have them, especially on those cold and rainy nights where sleeping outside could be lethal for some. However, shelters are unbelievably expensive to function. The average monthly cost of helping a family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be tremendously effective at serving the chronically homeless get off the streets and stay stable. This is what s called a housing first approach, frequent studies have found it is much more effective than depending on shelters. This benefits homeless people in long term housing without inquiring them to get sober or hang onto a job first. Once they are settled in a stable home, they gain access to services such as drug and alcohol treatment, an assigned social worker, or job training. They do not have to take advantage of those services, but most people do choose to do so. Several people who need permanent supportive housing are fighting mental problems or drug and alcohol manipulation, and would have ended up in institutions. Isolating those homeless people from the rest of society is like institutionalizing them, and it violates the law. Some housing developments provide both permanent supportive housing and low income housing, so that homes can be made available to larger amounts of the population. This kind of mixed use housing helps create communities. This includes, single moms living in affordable housing aiding ex cons living in supportive housing, and vice versa. This and other experiences suggest that integrating supportive and low income housing can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Book The Of By F. Scott Fitzgerald Waknuk is the hometown of David, Petra and Rosalind; the three had to flee their home by night when they got news of Sally and Katherine being captured. David and Petra left home and travelled down a path to the riverbank, where they met up with Rosalind. For their travel they utilized two great horses owned by Rosalind s father to go on their journey for safety. David, Petra and Rosalind travelled in a southwesterly direction until they came to a stop in the early morning. The three started their journey again in the late of the evening through the night in the same direction till they came to a stop in Labrador, where Petra was sending letter shapes to the Sealand woman of their current location. They continued on their journey until the break of dawn and then rested. Just after sunrise Michael informed them that he and the search party were on their trail and they needed to get going. David, Petra and Rosalind hustled their things together and made their way, continuing in a southwesterly direction into Wild Country. They made another stop in Wild Country to eat. When it was a little darker they pushed on towards the Fringes, until they were captured by the Fringes people and taken even further into the Fringes. Eventually, the Sealand woman rescued David, Petra and Rosalind and they travelled to Zealand via a flying craft that she had came in during the evening. • 4. Military Life Experience Research Paper Medved.Session1.Journal In this Journal I will be writing about my life experience of retiring out of the military and how it has influenced the beginning of my academic work and goals at Colorado Christian University (CCU). I will first explain my decision to get out of the military and how that decision as well as my first job transformed my college goals. I will next explain how this lesson further confirmed my assumptions on my college career. Finally, I will write about how I plan to apply what I have learned through my experiences, guidance of God, and this lesson to achieve my college goals at CCU. I hope that by learning in a meaningful way I will be less distracted and excited to learn verses putting it off. Next let s look at my way forward at CCU after my transition and what this lesson taught me. After my transformation from military to civilian and learning more about myself in this lesson, I now have a better picture of how to accomplish my goals. First and foremost, I need to stop using being busy as an excuse to not get my degree done. I have let too much time pass me by and there will always be life reasons to hold me back if I let them. The short video clip Ask It (Stanly, 2015) fits me perfectly regarding how I need to stop making excuses and use my experiences and take action. Also, knowing I have overcome many obstacles has made me stronger and increased my ability to push forward. I believe I can better educate myself while helping others in the process. Helping others is the best way for me to learn the most about myself and guide me to the right path. I watched ahead and the video for the next assignment, The Extra Mile (Hoyt, 2008), is a perfect example of how helping others helps you find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Discuss The Difference Between New England And The... After waiting over 100 years before England joined the race for colonization, in 1607 England has finally established a permanent colony in Jamestown. Years later, in 1620, supposedly trying to land in Virginia, the Puritans accidentally landed in Plymouth Massachusetts. Therefore, while New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled and ruled by the English, by the 1700s they had evolved into two very separate distinct societies due to the differences in colonization, settlers, and economic activities in each region. The difference in colonization led to distinct societies between New England and the Chesapeake regions. In 1607, after Sir Walter Raleigh s colony of Roanoke was unsuccessful, Jamestown was successfully colonized and was due to an economic purpose. As stated by John Smith, Dig gold, wash gold, refine gold, load gold (Doc 5). John Smith clearly shows how the colonists only cared about riches. They didn t care about establishing a colony as they were occupied and focused on the path to riches. More than half of us died (Doc 5). Due to this greed of riches and lack of control in the colony, many settlers as a consequence died. However, due to John Smith and his control over the colony, led Jamestown to not fail like the colony of Roanoke. Now while colonists focused on the economic gain they would receive from Jamestown, the Puritans focused on the religious freedom they would finally acquire. Now the Puritans wanted to separate from the Church of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. London Dockland Case Study For places both rural and urban to maintain development and a strong economy they must rebrand. To keep with the times so to speak place must continue to redevelop in a number of ways. Both areas are at risk of becoming derelict and poverty struck if they don t regenerate. One of the main causes of decline is a lack of employment. In many areas with one ruling industry when the industry collapses the town is left with high levels of unemployment. As countries continue to develop their primary and secondary sectors shrink as it becomes cheaper for TNC s to outsource work to other cheaper countries. This among other reasons can leave towns and cities in decline as there are no longer jobs available and people have to move away for work or stay unemployed which has bad economic effects. An example of this happening in an urban area is the London Docklands. In the 19th century it was the busiest port in the world however by the 1960 s bigger boats were being used and the docks weren t deep enough for this. The docks were closed leaving lots of derelict land, few jobs and lots of social problems. However the docklands were successfully rebranded with the introduction of the LDDC. Darleene Rodriguez Bio 416 08 May 2017 Immunotherapeutic Strategies Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by a wide range of viruses. The most common viruses are: HIV 1, HSV 1/2, and HPV. Often the contraction of these viruses goes undiagnosed until the patient has acquired severe symptoms, by this time they have also transferred the disease to another individual. For this reason, the importance of developing and understanding immunotherapeutic strategies has become essential for immunologists (5). There are many factors that contribute to viral infection, therefore, targeting these virus specific factors is a key to preventing viral spread to neighboring cells. Cytokine therapy has been a crucial advance in the treatment of HIV because this disease is highly affiliated with cytokine production. Cytokines are inserted in tumor cells as immune stimulatory genes (5). Following insertion, the patient is injected with a cytokine based vaccine which is used as a therapeutic measure for cancer prevention in patients that have HPV. Activation of cytokines (IL 2, IL 12, GM CSF) have been theorized to inhibit the growth on tumors. HIV is linked to a decline of the host s immune system response and decrease of CD4 T cells, therefore cytokine therapy enables the production of these cells by treating patients with IL 2 (5). HPV has been associated with cancer and there is no cure for HPV, however, there are preventative and therapeutic medications (2,6). In the case of HPV vaccination, natural killer cells are activated which induce an immune response. Immune modulators have suppressive and stimulatory effects on macrophages. Stimulation allows for the secretion of cytokines which allows the immune system to produce antibodies due to the high antigen presentation in dendritic cells. Although the word is often applied loosely, Puritan refers to two distinct groups: separating Puritans, such as the Plymouth colonists, who believed that the Church of England was corrupt and that true Christians must separate themselves from it; and non separating Puritans, such as the colonists who settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony, who believed in reform but not separation. Most Massachusetts colonists were non separating Puritans who wished to reform the established church, largely Congregationalists who believed in forming churches through voluntary compacts. The idea of compacts or covenants was central to the Puritans conception of social, political, and religious organizations. Since the Puritans settled in Massachusetts, the colony began with much democracy like town councils supported by Puritan religion. They also caused an exodus of people who believed differently from them and were in the colony. This exodus led to the creation of Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire. • 11. The Hunger Artist Essay In the allegory, The Hunger Artist by Franz Kafka, the narrator spectates a strange public presentation by performance artist known only as the Hunger Artist. Kafka paints a picture of extreme isolation and alienation intensely saturated with meaning, in a straightforward and fact based tone. The parable of this strange story is definitely subjective, albeit ironic, laden with poignant lessons of how disengaged people are from their peers individual journeys and struggles. Allegories are known for their richness in symbolism and hidden meanings, and the Hunger Artist certainly lives up to the expectations of an allegory. Kafka narrates in an omnipresent third person point of view, giving away few clues about the characteristics of the cast or the setting. This approach supports Kafka s theme of alienation and makes the readers feel as though they are also spectators, watching the fasting performance for themselves. The hunger artist strives to express himself through his art of fasting but fails to see how his individualism alienates him from others. Analysis Of Argument Against Headphones By Virginia Heffernan Analysis of Argument Against Headphones A century has passed since the creation of headphones, yet they have only recently come under fire. Headphones provide a way for people to listen to music, audiobooks, and podcasts privately without disrupting others around them. However, all of this private listening may soon fall on deaf ears. In Virginia Heffernan s article Against Headphones , she presents an argument stating that although headphones are useful in some professions, they cause substantial hearing loss, especially in young people. Logos Incorporating logical appeals into her writing allows Heffernan to reach a larger audience by providing factual support as backing for the argument. The author writes, the number of teenagers with hearing loss... has jumped 33 percent since 1994 (Heffernan, 2011). By using a statistic as a logical premise in support of prohibiting headphones, the author sheds light on the harsh reality of headphone use: more young people experience hearing loss. When discussing the history of headphones, the author states, workers and soldiers have long used [headphones] to mute out the din of machinery or artillery while receiving one way orders from someone with a microphone (Heffernan, 2011). • 16. Example Of Historiografiction In Literature One of the noticeable themes of postmodernism is the distorting of lines between fiction and nonfiction. In the hands of a talented writers, making it up and telling the truth can exist simultaneously and comfortably beside one another. Writers of this genre know that it is obvious to the reader that they are lying to tell the truth. More exactly, these writers lie openly to tell the truth so that their moral position as storytellers exists in their ability to lie openly and cleverly. A term historiografiction meaning postmodern mixture of the words historiography and fiction means the literary treatment of persons or events from the past. • 17. Buffalo Bill Wild West Summary The westward expansion of American citizens was a progressive action that helped the nation to move forward during the mid eighteen hundreds. The land that was being claimed came to be known as the frontier and few people settled there due to the perceived threat of Indians and what they thought was a lack of economic opportunity. This land was taken over by farmers and herders that controlled buffalo and used the fertile soil to make a living. The story of Buffalo Bill s Wild West: Celebrity, Memory, and Popular History shows how a man can start with nothing and grow to be a publicly recognized figure. The author of this story, Joy S. Kasson, recounts Buffalo Bill s life and the decisions he made along the way along with how the actions he took affected the events around him. This story, that takes a biographic approach, tells of Buffalo Bill s influence in society as a showman and in the perceived image of the wild west during this time. What were the author s main claims and how did she defend them? The author claims that William Cody, also known as Buffalo Bill, found success through luck and that his success was very fortunate and highly unlikely. In the biography the author writes, In the process of becoming an international celebrity, Cody both followed and diverged from familiar pathways in the search for success and respectability that led many others to debt, obscurity, and failure (page 12). • 19. Why The North Won The Civil War Dbq The civil war was a battle between the union and the confederacy to preserve the union. The war took 4 years for the north to win, and near the end of the war, the north was also fighting to end slavery. The north won the war because they had more resources, better strategies, and better transportation. First off, the north had more resources. This can easily be seen when looking at the North versus South chart. The chart shows different types of resources, such as workers, factories, railroads, firearms, and a few other useful things that are needed for a war. The graph then shows a bar graph for each of those resources, showing in each one, that north has a big advantage over south with that resource. Firearms, for example, is a resource ... The map also shows big line all around the confederate states in the water, named Union blockade of Ports. This document shows that the Union had a plan for this war that was more strategic than just fighting to the death. This plan was called the anaconda plan, and it was a plan to squeeze the confederate states out of resources. This line of Union blockade were on water, and land. During the war, the Union blockade became smaller and smaller, containing all of the confederacy to a smaller area. This is one way that helped the Union win the war in the end. Another example of the Union having better strategies than the Confederacy is Sherman s Scorched Earth Campaign. Plantations were burned, crops destroyed and stores of food pillaged. In the wake of his progress to the sea he left numerous Sherman sentinels (the chimneys of burnt out houses) and Sherman neckties (railroad rails that had been heated and wrapped around trees.). In the Garden of Eden, Heaven and Earth were one and God will many times would walk and talk to Adam. Yet, with paradise and completeness with God, Adam and Eve fell short and disobeyed the rule that God gave them. Sin entered the world through humanity and tainted the relationship we had with Him and the creation as a whole. Although humanity has been the conduit of destruction in this world, God has a plan to redeem creation through humanity. God s threefold plan to restore creation begins with His covenant with Israel, depends on His son Jesus, and ends with the church seeking out to join Heaven and Earth. God starts His plan by choosing a man by the name of Abram, whom God changes his name to Abraham. In Genesis 12, God tells Abraham that He will make of [Abraham] a great nation. At this point of Genesis this promise gives the reader hope, because after the Fall of Man, humanity mounted towards a path of self destruction. • 23. The Video Game Industry and the Objectification and... How can an industry with widespread appeal to men and women continue to misrepresent and misgender women? Video games have been used as a platform for entertainment between the ages of 18 and 49. The entertainment factor of video games comes from the various forms of art, cultures, worlds, languages, and stories that come from each individual game. The male players of video games lead the market, causing the industry of video games to create games that would appeal to males, such as creating female characters that would attract them. Because of this, female video game players have become the minority in the video game industry. Although video game companies claim to target all types of video game players, women have become the victims of patriarchal sexism by being objectified and stereotyped as a way to increase sales. A fact that contributes to the objectification and stereotyping of women is that as of 2011, 56% of video game players are male, and the other 44% are female ( Essential Facts 4). This discrepancy caused video game industries to create games that will sell to the majority the male players. However, the 44% of female players are still considered a large consumer group (Shanley 11). Despite the 12% discrepancy between male and female players, industries that have chosen to focus solely on their male consumers can be seen as patriarchal. Defining The Constitution Ambit Within India Essay INTRODUCTION: To define the constitution ambit within which right to life with human dignity especially right to life livelihood and holistic approach is sine qua non of the constitutional framework in India. All those things which go all along with the life and make it worth living comes within this. The right to live basically does not mean the bare life as it was said by Georgio Agamben in his HOMO SACER book, the life is basically full of all those things which makes life worth living and it includes the health aspect, the societal values in the status particularly in the norms within the society; in all those things which make the life with dignity; hence it is not animal life but a political one. In the 1920 s during the great depression, money was a huge issue, because of all the people losing their jobs. This caused people to do whatever they can to get it. In The Great Gatsby the characters suffer from a similar problem: They all want money, but not all of them have it. They then do whatever they have to do to climb to the top of the social ladder. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the motif money is power through the characters Daisy, Myrtle, and Gatsby. Daisy would suffer through any pain as long as she got to be rich. Gatsby conveys Daisy s lust for money when he says, Her voice is full of money (Fitzgerald 120). Daisy wants money more than anything else; even to the point that it shows in her voice and actions. Everything she does is meticulously planned around keeping her social status and access to money alive but not around her own happiness. She is even referred to as The king s daughter and The golden girl further showing her desire for money(Fitzgerald 120). Daisy perfectly shows how money can take control of life as it did to hers. • 37. Peer Group Belonging Research The peer group is viewed as a microsystem because it is made up of roles, relationships, and activities (Berns, 2016). Peers are individuals who are of approximately the same gender, age, and social status, and who share interests. When children share different experiences with their peers, it allows them to obtain a number of skills, attitudes, and roles that will guide their adaptation throughout life. Peer groups are important socializers. Peer groups contribute beyond the way that families and school affect socialization. Peers contribute to the socialization process by satisfying certain basic needs: the need of belonging to a group and interact socially, and the need to develop a sense of self (Berns, 2016). Belonging needs and socialization develops throughout the childhood. In the infancy stage, the sense of belonging develops first within the family. An example of this would be when my mom would comfort me when I was a baby during thunder storms because I was terrified of them. With my mom comforting me at this stage, I felt a sense of belonging. In the early childhood stage, preschool children s social interactions are impacted by attachment and the willingness of adults to provide opportunities of interaction. My mom provided me with ... • 38. Fossil Fuels Are Not Dead Dinosaur Remains Madison Flanagan Contradictory to what many people believe, fossil fuels are not dead dinosaur remains. In fact, most of the fossil fuels we find today were formed millions of years before the first dinosaurs ( Fossil Energy: How Fossil Fuels Were Formed, n.d.). They were formed from prehistoric plants and animals that lived many millions of years ago and are considered non renewable because they are not sustainable and cannot be easily replaced due to their formation taking billions of years. When these ancient living things died, they decomposed and became buried under layers and layers of mud, rock, and sand. Eventually, hundreds and sometimes thousands of feet of earth covered them ( Fossil Energy: How Fossil Fuels Were Formed, n.d.). In some areas, these materials were covered by ancient seas before they dried up. During the millions of years that passed, the dead plants and animals slowly decomposed into organic materials and formed fossil fuels. Different types of fossil fuels were formed depending on what combination of animal and plant debris was present, how long the material was buried, and what conditions of temperature and pressure existed when they were decomposing ( Fossil Energy: How Fossil Fuels Were Formed, n.d.). For example, oil and natural gas were created from plants and/or animals that lived in the water and were buried under bodies of water such as oceans, rivers, etc. Over time, some of the oil and natural gas began working their way up ... When Spade discovers that the woman he loves had gunned down his partner, he must put his allegiance to his moral code above his romantic impulses. Your comrades and your moral code are more important than your physical gratification. It is a lesson that I believe many of us have forgottenA very prominent theme within the novel is greed. It is the motivation behind every action in the story. The three villains, Brigid, Gutman and Cairo consistently seek the riches to be gained from the falcon. The author s extensive familiarity with detective work allows him to effectively create an overall dark and cynical tone. This can be seen in the passage where Hammett is describing different noises: a telephone ringing in the darkness, bedsprings creaking, fingers fumbling against the wood, something thudding on the carpet, and finally a man s voice. This detailed description of a series of sounds creates a feeling of uneasiness and evokes a foreboding feeling that something bad is about to happen.Sam Spade is a tall, blond, pleasantly satanic looking, hard boiled detective. It has often been asserted that differences in the two candidates television personae accounted in part for Kennedy s election victory. Some, however, dispute the significance of the televised 1960 debates, suggesting that while visual cues undoubtedly have the potential to influence voter perceptions, the nature and extent of the influence remain a matter of speculation (Pendell and Vancil P.54 1988). Furthermore; Keyton (1989) points out that Debates involving candidates for the 1988 presidential nomination carry a similar message. Results of a study of college students revealed the finding that the winner of the 1988 debate was predicted by perceptions of the candidate who projected the strongest personal image, the greatest credibility, the most logical arguments, and the strongest emotional appeals. Furthermore, voter preferences expressed after a first debate were strong predictors of eventual candidate choice. In some political campaigns, even the lack of debates can have significance. George Bush s successful 1988 presidential campaign employed debate avoidance, a reliance upon emotional appeals and ridicule, and a de emphasis of issues. Both of the major U.S. political parties have used such strategies, considered to be departures from ethical behavior (Kelly 1990). The film portrays that it takes strong, determined men with much integrity to stand up for what they know is right. 2. Some people would disapprove of him because he is not the characteristic senator and has no political experience. By the end the events that occur open Mr. Smith s eyes to how the government really operates. He sees how this one powerful man can control his whole state and turn them all against him. • 47. Oil Sands In this essay I will use the social issue of oil sands and its impact on climate change to critically compare the social order and class struggle perspectives in social theory. To examine the social order perspective, I will use the theories of Robert Merton and Harold Garfinkel. For the class perspective theory, I will use the theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Immanuel Wallenstein. The social order perspective explains the social issue of climate change in terms of how the social structures of the economy enforce and produce the ways in which people discuss climate change. Its main strength is that it identifies how the economy is able to shape discussions and create a sense of order around the opposing conflict of interest between the economy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Merton s theory derives from the fundamentalist perspective in which he defines manifest functions as the easily recognizable and intended outcomes, whereas latent functions are unintended. Merton argues the distinction between manifest and latent functions has significant value and that both functions need to be recognized as an approach to explaining any social phenomena (Powell 2017: Feb 15). Latent functions are not necessarily the anticipated outcome, however a closer examination of this function can lead to a better understanding of a social relation or patterns observed (Longofer Winchester, 2016). For instance, in applying the social issue of climate change to Merton s manifest and latent theory, it is clear the manifest function of oil sands is for refineries to extract the oil to produce fuel (energy source). As a result of increased reliance on oil sands as fuel, the process of refining oil and clearing land to extract the oil from these oil sands, releases tons of pollution into the atmosphere, creating the phenomena known as climate change. The perceived function of oil sands is not to harmful to the environment, however; it becomes the negative consequence of the objective. Although the manifest function does not recognize that the use of oil sands leads to an increased threat of the environment, the latent function is able to identify the relationship. This latent function leads to the reexamination of the use of oil sand and how our society collectively moves on about making informed decisions regarding both the production and the rate at which we use ... • 48. The Importance Of Belonging To A Community Many individuals when asked can identify themselves as belonging to a community. According to the Oxford dictionary (2010) one definition of community is; all the people who live in a particular area, country etc. when talked about as a group (p.301). The definition of a community however is dependent on those who are defining it. Communities can also be defined as the grouping of individuals who share similar qualities such as religion, race, etc. or who feel a sense of belonging to a specific group. With the many variations of communities it is unsurprising that a community and its definition do not always remain the same. Communities shift and morph as the people and environments within them do the same, some flourish and others crumble. To better understand a community and its wellbeing, identifying its strengths and needs are essential. Looking within the community for these identifications and definitions are necessary. Social workers can play a role in assisting communities to identify their needs and strengths. Social workers can further support and empower community members to mobilize towards social action and change for their community s development.
