Popular Film Conventions
From its beginning in the 1890s, the film industry has never been stagnant. Consumers continuously
spend their hard earned money on the films that are released in theaters every week. However,
choosing which film to buy tickets for can be rather difficult. Thankfully, the hundreds of movies
that have been released can be grouped into several genres such as, comedy, horror, and fantasy. A
very popular filmgenre for all movie lovers is the comedy. A comedy is a film which is intended to
amuse the audience with light hearted humor. These motion pictures provoke enjoyment and often
exaggerate characteristics of real life as well as the characteristics of the actors and actresses in
them. This genre of film generally concludes on a cheerful note. Several popular comedies are The
Hangover series, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and... Show more content on

These flicks are known primarily for providing an escape from reality and containing an element of
magic, wonder, and myth. These movies are usually based off of a fictional world in which the
scenarios transcend all physical laws of the universe. Characters in this genre of motion pictures
commonly have unrealistic human strength and undergo supernatural phenomena. The setting of
this classification ordinarily takes place in a mythical, medieval, or other whimsical location.
Several renowned films of this genre include the Labyrinth, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The
Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
The film industry will never idle and will continue to rapidly produce movies, thus a system of
organization is necessary. While a large number of genres and subcategories of each genre exist, the
standard comedy, fantasy, and horror are exceedingly common. When deciding what motion picture
to see, many moviegoers describe what genre they would like to watch, rather than a specific
movie. Without this system of categories, attending a movie theater would be incredibly

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura ( Itp )
Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP)
The first official report on Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura was written by Paul Gottlieb
Werlhof in 1735. As such, the name Werlhof s disease was used when referring to Idiopathic
Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) until the early 19th century when scientists linked purpura with
abnormalities in the platelet count. In 1916 Paul Kaznelson made a report of the successful
response on a young woman who had undergone a splenectomy in treating the ITP disease, this
method was use until 1950 s after which steroid therapy was introduced. (Newland, sec. 1)
Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura is also known as, primary immune thrombocytopenic
purpura, and autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura, it is a bleeding disorder and manifest as a
clinical acute disorder in children, which is short term and chronic disorder, long term in adults.
Women are shown to contract this disease two to three times more than men. The key characteristic
is the destruction of platelets by the autoimmune system which mistakenly attacks and destroys the
body s platelets, the reason is unknown thus the name idiopathic . The onset is linked to viral or
bacterial infection which acts as a trigger . This disease is not transferable from one person to
another.
The signs and symptoms of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura are:
Small pin point red dots on the skin cause by broken blood vessels called petechiae
Bruises caused by slight bumps ecchymosis

Harmful Mold Contamination
Evaluation of Harmful Mold Contamination in the Eastern Washington University Science
Building (Names/date) Abstract We investigated the levels of fungal contamination in the Eastern
Washington University Science Building; which could be harmful to the frequenters. Certain types
of fungi produce macrocyclic trichothecene mycotoxins. The toxins have the ability to cause
weakness, ataxia, hypotension, coagulopathy, and death. (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention 2013). The primary species of mold that produce macrocyclic trichothecene include
Cladosporium sphaerospermum, Penicillium chrysogenum, Aspergillus versicolor, Alternaria
alternata and Stachybotrys chartarum (Sodipe 2013). The level of symptoms is dependent on the

Specific types of infections include diseases acquired from services the building preforms,
infections spread from person to person, adverse reactions to chemicals stored within the building,
or reactions due to molds contained in, or on the building (Burge 2004). Microbial infections,
especially from molds, are suspected to be the major cause of health problems associated with
water damaged buildings. Leaking pipes, leaking windows, and leaking roofs are all conceivable
sources of moisture that can lead to mold invasion (Sodipe 2013). Cellulose or carbohydrate based
materials make adequate nutrient sources for molds (Cooper 2007). Consecutive periods of water
damage can enhance fungal growth and mycotoxin production, when followed by drier conditions
these fungi can release spores and hyphal fragments (Nielsen 2003). Mycotoxins are secondary
metabolites of molds that exert toxic effects on mammles, spacifically humans (Peraica, Radic,
Lucic, Pavlovic, 1999). Molds that produce mycotoxin and macrocyclic trichothecene strains
include C.ladosporium, sphaerospermum, P.enicillium, chrysogenum, Aspergillus, versicolor,

The Asian Indians Immigration to America and Their Major...
The Asian Indians Immigration to America and Their Major Contributions to Society
Asian Indians come from an area with the second largest population in the world, but form only one
of the smallest minorities in the United States. America was influenced by their religious and
political beliefs long before the first immigrants arrived in the 19th century. The congressional act of
1947 granted them citizenship. Now, Asian Indians hold many important occupations (students,
teachers, writers, musicians, scientists). Their most important contributions are geared toward
engineering and the sciences. India was in a great shape up until the end of 19th century. When
British arrived, the country was depleted of its wealth and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To make matters worse, famine devastated India from 1899 to 1902. Thus, large scale immigration
began in 1906, when six hundred Asians applied to enter the United States. They came here in hopes
of changing their lives around. Unfortunately, they soon found out that life in America was very
challenging. Many Indians were farmers back in India, but when they came to the United States
they had to take jobs no one else would. They also encountered prejudice. Whites sometimes
associated the Asian Indian immigrants with blacks, Chinese, or Japanese. Very often, Asian
Indians were blamed for the violence directed towards them. Whites did not want or try to
understand Indian culture and traditions. The Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore (a winner of the
Noble Prize in literature) traveled to North America. When he applied for entry to the United
States, Tagore encountered difficulties and when he finally made it to the country, he experienced
racial prejudice in Los Angeles. He cancelled his tour and returned to India, saying in disgust, Jesus
could not get into America because, first of all, he would not have the necessary money, and
secondly, He would be an Asiatic. Despite of everything they encountered, the immigrants still
believed that the life they left behind was much worse than thy life they faced in America.
Another major problem Asian Indians faced came from the white population. Many people

Stereotypes Of Teenagers
The ages thirteen through nineteen have been influenced by many things through the media. TV
programs, movies, advertising, magazines, and the web. These medias are more used by
teenagers than any other group. Teenagers are very difficult to figure out what they watch, or
read, or listen. It s different, but all together it s mostly the same. The TV programs have a lot of
stereotypes towards teenagers. Girls think they can t do things that guys do. There are programs
out there that show those types of stereotypes and these stereotypes get into their head which
makes them realize there s no way for them to do it. The contradicted stereotypes are that there are
some girls out there in this world that CAN do what any guy can do.... Show more content on

In school, there are clubs and after school activities. The people running those advertise by
giving out fliers or just straight up talking to you about their club or the activities. They can also
ask a specific person, like for example, they can go to a different race and talk about a certain
subject that s referring to that race. Anyone can be advertised in any way or anything. It doesn t
matter if you re a girl or a guy or a different race. You ll be advertised anyways. Sometimes when it
s a specific type of advertisement that s referring to someone specific, it can make you think oh it
s not for me so I should just ignore it. And it ll make you feel like that advertisement wasn t for
you, but for someone else. There are so many different kinds of magazines. There are fashion
magazines, fitness magazines, cooking magazines, and all other kinds. The ones that teens usually
look at are fashion, fitness, and sport magazines. For girls the fashion magazine is the one they
would most likely look at. They want to follow the trends and what s in and what s out of fashion
and some want to fit in with a crew that dresses differently. Same thing with the guys. Whatever s
out of fashion for them, they don t wear anymore, but for girls whatever was out can come back to
trend. For the guys that usually doesn t happen. People may think of you differently because of
what you re wearing, but they really don t know who you really are.

How Did The Second Temple Period Affect The Jewish
Introduction The Second Temple Period was an extremely diverse time in history. Several
changes in kings bought about major change among the Jews. The changes were obvious in
religion, leaderships, and accomplishments of the period. The numerous different leaders
changed the foundation of the Jewish people down to the core. In this paper I will review the
various transitions that took place during the second time period. It is evident that the changes
that took place influenced the Jews in a variety of ways. This paper will highlight those
influences. What was the Second Temple Period? The Second Temple Period was a time in
history that bought about a lot of physical and spiritual changes. Often in history one is able to
see the affect that new leadership has on a particular area. The same can be said about the Jews
and the Second Temple Period. Formerly called the intertestamental period, most scholars now
prefer the term Second Temple Period For the time from the building of the Second temple in
515BC by Zerubbabel until its destruction by the Romans in AD 70, including the time of Jesus
and the early church The Second Temple Period is comprised of five eras demarcated by a series of
occupational forces of Palestine and punctuated by five great crises for the Jewish people The
Persian Period (539 331 BC) When Cyrus of Persia, a former vassal of Media (from around 550
BC0, attacked Opis (an outlying city), Nabonidus king of Babylon was busy quelling a bloody

The Grapes Of Wrath, By Jack London
Jack London wants the setting to represent an important part of the story. Thus, he gives a lot of
details regarding the length and location of the Yukon. This way the reader can enjoy the rarity
and magnificence of this river. He also longly describes the ice, the cold and his effects. The
reader can easily feels what it is like to get frozen little by little, because every gesture painfully
made is precisely described. We understand how each tiny mistake under these cold conditions
become suddenly a matter of life or death. The outdoors in this story is always working against the
man of the story: the extraordinary cold, the hot bubbling springs preventing the ice from freezing,
and the tree packed with snow pouring on the man s fire. Nature is alive, changes and has no mercy.

since he does not know how to stay humble in front of the indomitable elements nature is. He
refused to listen to the advices of the old man from Sulphur Creek who had recommended him to
not face the cold alone. However, he does not appear to be entirely a novice of the extreme cold

The Odessa Steps Sequence
Sergei Eisenstein was a Soviet film director, who directed Battleship Potemkin. A famous scene in
the film is the Odessa Steps sequence. The Odessa Steps sequence is an example of Eisensteinian
attractions, which is a tactic that is used to shock or jolt the audience, mainly through editing. The
scene I am describing is segment C. Segment C is the scene that consists of the cherub statues, the
collapsing iron gate, and the lion statues. Segment C consists of nine shots. The first shot is a
cherub extending its right arm above its head to reach a club. The cherub is looking straight ahead.
Additionally, the cherub is sitting with its legs wide open. The second shot in the segment is
another cherub looking to the left. The cherub is grasping... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Yes, the narrative is disrupted by the cherubs and the lion statues, but compared to the other
segments the cherubs and the lion statues do not intensify the shots of the iron gate collapsing
compared to the occurrences in segment B and segment A, where those shots together build upon
the intensity of the shots within their own segments. In segment B the shots continue to intensify
the narrative especially seeing the helpless baby in the carriage on the cusp of descending down
the steps, and then the solider slashing people with his saber, and the woman who was shot in the
eye. In my opinion, these all continue to intensify the narrative because the shots are brief but it s
all shocking and addresses the spectator especially when the woman who is shot in the eye looks at
the camera in horror. Segment B continues to shock one, whereas segment C disrupts the continuity
of the scene. Segment A is also disruptive like segment C because of the title that says and
suddenly, and the lady who is shaking her head and yelling, and then the lady with the white parasol
heading toward the camera, although this is disruptive it also intensifies the narrative because the
narrative completely switches from the people waving to the people beginning to run for their

Impact of Cost-Benefit Analysis on Industry Decision...
Impact of Cost benefit analysis on industry decision making: Transportation
Cost benefit analysis (CBA), in essence, is a tool for decision making. It can be applied to almost
any kind of decision in any kind of field. In its most pure form, a CBA will aggregate the pros and
cons (positive and negative effects) of a proposal, and, if the pros (benefits) outweigh the cons (costs
), the proposal is viable. Usually, the analyst will assign monetary values to each of the costs and
benefits, hence making the analysis easier to calculate, even if the cost and benefits per se are
intangible, and thus, not directly expressible in money values. Problems often arise in how to
assess the monetary values of both tangible and intangible effects, which ... Show more content on

Any threat to the reliability of the transportation network constitutes a vulnerable spot, a weakness.
This is of particular concern when considering sparse, rural networks, because what by urban
standards is a minor degradation (i.e. car accident, resulting in queuing, delays and diversions) may
have severe consequences if occurring in a rural setting (i.e. blocking the only access road for
hours).
In the most common manner of speaking, the reliability of a transportation network can be
defined as the probability that one or more of its links functions, or rather: does not fail to
function, according to a set standard of operating variables. A non functioning, or at best, badly
functioning link will impose costs on the user in terms of loss of time, additional operation costs
or other costs as a result of delays and diversions. Transporters of perishable goods will also
experience a loss of value. Few will question that the sender, the recipient, the freight hauler, or
society at large, experience additional costs when goods or people cannot reach their destinations in
time or in space (Husdal, 2004).
The increase in just in time (JIT) manufacturing operations has made a reliable travel time an
important economic factor. JIT relies on the transportation system to take advantage of lowcost
labor and manufacturing plant development costs. Producing components in several manufacturing
plants and

Definition Essay On Apathy
Tammy Nguyen Coach Keel English 1 5th 18 March 2016 Apathy What is the true meaning of
Apathy? Well, if one were to search the definition of apathy on google they would probably get
something like, lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. It is but it also isn t the definition of
apathy. The whole meaning behind apathy is more than just a lack of interest it s simply the
explanation of today s society. Apathy is when people have no sense of emotion towards anything,
they don t care. They absolutely have no motivation to do or think about anything. They have no
goals that they want to achieve because they have lost their sense in accomplishing things. Apathy
has become one of the most controversial issues in today s society. It s something... Show more

This is by far the closest thing as to being apathetic. Procrastinating is a great example of being
apathetic because people don t care about what they need to do and they focus more on what
they want to do. Some blow off whatever they need to do until the last minute and others just
don t do it at all! They just hurt their selves when they procrastinate, because when people
procrastinate they usually get an over amount of stress just because they didn t do it earlier
when they could have. Procrastination is a huge sign that students like to wear and show their
teachers how much they care. That s the thing, if people don t show their teacher that they care
then they will most likely not care about students grade, but if they show that they do care their
teacher will probably focus more on helping their grade. Another example of apathy is in the
election this year. America is full of apathetic legalized voters and that s really not a good thing.
They think it s a joke and that it s just hysterical. But they re so full of themselves that they don t
take the time to think about how their vote could affect some people and even if they knew it
would have a bad outcome for some, they don t care enough to stop what they re doing and actually

Comparing P-51 Mustang And Martin B-26 Marauder
Luke Hameloth
Mrs. Hameloth
HS History
Throughout World War II the US used airplanes in many different ways. Some were used to
carry troops and supplies, some were used as bombers, and some were used to attack directly.
The P 51 Mustang, the Boeing P 17 Flying Fortress, and the Martin B 26 Marauder are just a few
examples of these. Even though each plane had a different job, they all came together to help
win the war. The P 51 Mustang was commissioned by the British Royal Air Force, and was built
by North American Aviation. Its first flight took place on October 26th. The Mustang ran on the
Packard V 1650 7 engine, which was a version of the Rolls Royce Merlin 66 and was mounted
with six .50 caliber M2/AN Browning machine guns. The first units of Mustangs weren t able to
reach high altitudes because of inferior engines, which lead to them being used primarily as
reconnaissance and ground attacking planes. But the US decided to use them as bomber escorts
for deep penetration daylight bombing runs. The Boeing B 17 Flying Fortress was primarily used
by the USAAC (United States Army Air Corps) and was built by Boeing. The B 17 used four Pratt

Critique Of The Open Boat By Stephen Crane
Critique of The Open Boat
Identification
Crane, Stephen. 1969 The Open Boat. In the Portable Stephen Crane: A World of Shipwreck, 360
86. New York, New York: Penguin Group Viking Penguin.
Summary of Main Idea
In the short story The Open Boat by Stephen Crane, the story is about four men a captain, a cook,
an oiler, and a correspondent. They find themselves in a lifeboat after their ship sinks off the coast
of Florida. A rough wave crashes into the small boat and all the men are spilled into the water, but
the oiler drowns. Finally, the men arrive at shore where they receive help.
Critical evaluation of major ideas
In the story The Open Boat by Stephen Crane, he demonstrates a positive theme of determination
through the characters. Well, said the cook, perhaps it s not a house of refuge that I m thinking
of as being near Mosquito Inlet Light; perhaps it s a lifesaving station. We re not there yet, said
the oiler in the stern. (362) Oh, well, said the captain, soothing his children, we ll get ashore all
right. (363) All four men were determined that they would make it to shore. Even though the ship
was wrecked, and they were in a dinghy. According to Christopher Metress article titled From
indifference to anxiety: Knowledge and the reader in The Open Boat he talks about the signals the
crewmen saw and how they weren t going to give up they were determined to interpret what the
guy at the shore was trying to tell them. The crew s wish to make

Invictus Diction
The poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley presents the idea that maintaining positivity during
hardships makes one feel invincible. Henley uses diction that signifies hardships, alliteration, and
biblical allusions to describe how one can take charge of his life when it comes to downfalls.
Diction is one of the main devices Henley uses in this poem to demonstrate the difficulty the
speaker faces. The speaker says in the second stanza that he is in the fell clutch of circumstance.
This line illustrates that the speaker has no control over his current circumstances, as the clutch, or
grip, is too strong for him to escape from it. The speaker also tells the reader that he endured
bludgeonings of chance. With bludgeonings meaning strikes

Gospel Of Luke Analysis
The Gospel of Luke was written by a Greek speaking Christian. It was not written to replace the
Gospel of Mark, but as a new account written for an audience under different circumstances than
Mark s community. The church was becoming more Gentiles than Jews. Most people in Luke s
community were not familiar with the Jewish traditions that were referred to by many preachers.
Many members of the community were well off as well. This community struggled to follow a
church that had a Hebrew core. These issues are what influenced Luke s writing. Luke wanted his
community to know that they were all included in God s plan for salvation even though in history
the Jews would have been the first to know. A few of the major themes of Luke s Gospelwere:
salvation for all, mercy and forgiveness, and modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the early Christian community, this story was seen as a call to faith in Jesus who is present in the
church during stormy times (Kodell 953). This interpretation is still incredibly relevant for
Christians today. This passage shows Christians that Jesus is there for you through everything.
Even in tough times, Jesus is there. The storm in the passage is symbolic for stormy times in life.
Jesus calming the storm is representative of the support that God can provide for you during tough
times. No matter what the situation, God will be there for you.
The Calming of a Storm at Sea shows Luke s community the power of Jesus. It shows that Jesus
is there for you when you need him. The passage shows that even when you lack faith, like the
disciples did, God will still be there for you. In this story, Jesus takes a situation where the
disciples are in danger and calms it to where they are safe. This is representative of the fact that
when you are in danger, you can turn to Jesus and he will save you. The passage clearly shows God

Moving Beyond A Standard Education Plan For Integrating...
Moving beyond a standard education plan for integrating research results into existing curricula,
this proposal emphasizes a proactive effort to offer next generation engineers an interdisciplinary
training experience by using the proposed research of low power intelligent sensors. This education
plan is targeting high schoolstudents and middle schoolteachers, as well as students from minority
groups. Some planned activities have been explored by the PI with very positive feedbacks and
evaluations.
The background is based on the premise that future academic and industrial projects will require
engineers to adopt a system level perspective and work with interdisciplinary teams [129].
Accordingly, current engineering students are expected to have system design experiences, and the
ability to prototype demonstration systems, and also be able to communicate with engineers
working in other areas, as well as identify potential market demand based on available technologies
[130]. To date, this type of experience has not been offered sufficiently in classroom lectures and
laboratory sessions [131]. Presently, our pedagogical practices tend to focus on conveying technical
knowledge rather than giving students experience in system development [132]. The proposed
research is uniquely cross disciplinary in that it includes both fundamental circuit design and signal
processing techniques, and this cross disciplinary approach can be adopted in various ap plications.

The Between Europeans And Native Americans
The interactions between Europeans and Native Americans have not always been positive. There
are numerous difference that interactions between the two groups. Europeans were known as a
group that during the 16th and 17th century, made a great deal of change with their religious
views. They were once without religion, but were known to turn to sects like Christianity and
Puritanism. The Native Americans were a group known to be without religion. These people did
not believe it one God and a book to follow. They believed in various higher beings that oversaw
things like hunting, crops and sacrifices. These spirits didn t represent a sense of hope or
something to look forward as did being a Christian. William Bradford and Mary White Rowlandson
were two religious people who came from England to the new world in order to seek new
opportunities in their religious pilgrimage. Upon their arrival to Massachusetts, they lived in
settlements were next to Native establishments. Both women told stories of the horrors that the
Natives put upon them. William Bradford s belief is Puritanism lead him on a voyage with others
to Massachusetts. His encounter with the Natives, although not completely negative, was bias
based on his beliefs. In England, the social structure was completely different then that of the
Native Americans. In Chapter XIV, Bradford noted different customs he noticed that the Natives
portrayed. The natives shared land among each other. The chief was said to assign land

The Pros And Cons Of Google Pixel
For years, Google has been contented with only having an indirect hand at the fiercely competitive
smartphone market.
But just last week, the California based brand shook the entire mobile industry when it announced
that it was ending its long running Nexus line and introducing a new, premium handset on the
market: the Google Pixel. So far, we like what we re seeing.
With Google s flagship phone offering so much promise on paper, we re sure you re wondering
(as much as we do) how it would fare against other popular high end smartphones. To satisfy
everybody s curiosity, we re pitting Google Pixel XL against Apple iPhone7 Plus and the Samsung
Galaxy Note 7 (the non combustible kind, of course).

Another thing that makes Pixel XL stand out is that it has the sharpest display of the three
devices. Although Note 7 evens this out by having the largest display and a dual edge design,
making it look more enticing than its immediate competitors. For iPhone 7 Plus, it keeps itself
relevant in this area by incorporating pressure sensitive technology in its design (3D Touch) so its
display may be more functional than both Note 7 and Pixel XL.
Verdict: Again, it s another three way tie here.

between Google Pixel XL, iPhone 7 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The reason why is that all
three devices are pretty much on par in terms of performance.
Ultimately, we re guessing that selecting among the three will come down to design and software

It Is Not The Strongest Of The Species That Survive
According to Charles Darwin, It is not the strongest of the species that survive, or the most
intelligent, but the one most responsive to change , (Brainy Quotes) pertains to Pat Franks
Alas, Babylon, all of the characters are forced to change and adapt to the new life after a nuclear
attack. They are forced to fight for survival and find new sources of food and also the most basic
necessity, water. The main character Randy Bragg, is forced to take charge of his small
community that is made up of his close neighbors, but he also instructed by the government to
set up a makeshift law because he is in the reserves. This book was written when racial equality
was a major issue and Randy s neighbors are African American, in a nice area of Florida called
Fort Repose. The black family, The Henry s, were originally slaves for Randy s ancestors and
had bought just four acres at the east boundary of the Bragg s grove. Randy feels confident about
having black neighbors and how they work together to improve both of their lives in the process
of working together. Randy and all of his neighbors, include his black neighbors, work together
to improve their life after the nuclear attack and survive from day to day. Randy s brother, Mark,
wife and children are sent to live with Randy as soon as his brother hears that a nuclear attack is
coming. They use the code words Alas, Babylon to communicate that an attack is coming and his
family is coming down to Florida. You will see in the book

Summary Of John Searle s Argument
John Searle first proposed the argument known as The Chinese Room Argument in a book he wrote
in 1984. The argument is well known if not famous and has become one of the best know
arguments in recent philosophy. Searle imagines himself locked in a room following a computer
program for responding to questions written in Chinese characters slipped under the door. Searle
does not understand Chinese writing, but he can follow the computer program to manipulate
symbols and numerals to easily respond to the questions without fully understanding even what he
was being asked or responding. The narrow conclusion of the argument is that following
instructions and programming a computer might make it seem to understand Chinese but doesn t
have a real... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the fact that Searle is inside the room and does not actually understand Chinese, he claims
the Chinese Room cannot be cognitively. Therefor, the Chinese Room would be functionally
equivalent but not cognitively equivalent to the native Chinese speakers and furthermore, if the
Chinese Room can imitate understanding without truly having it, then both Strong AI and
Functionalism would have to be invalid. Functionalism s imperative is to show that functional
equivalence must always equal cognitive equivalence, so if one could show functional equivalence
did not equal cognitive equivalence then Functionalism would be invalid. Additionally, if a
computer or some other system could imitate intelligence without retaining understanding, then
strong AI would be invalid as well. Strong AI is the view that if a machine can successfully imitate
human intelligence in a way that it becomes functionally and cognitively equivalent to a mind, then
the computer itself is a mind. Strong AI and its advocates respond to Searle s claims by applying
the Systems Reply. The Systems Reply states that despite the fact that Searle does not understand
Chinese in the Chinese Room, the system as a whole does in fact understand Chinese. Just because

Fairest Medical Center
The capitals of Montana, Idaho, and Utah all have their own individual hospitals. In this scenario,
they want a medical facility capable of things that require new technology, however. Instead of
each city building their own, the three cities want to share one. The assignment is to find the
fairest center point for the facility between the three capitals. Some constraints in this problem
include the geography of the area the correct point of concurrency, which will vary depending on
the area. For example, if the correct center is in the middle of a lake, that may not be the best
option. To avoid this, it is much easier to find the correct point and then select the city closest to it.

An angle bisector is a line dividing an angle in two. The orthocenter is the point of intersection
of the three altitudes of a triangle. The three altitudes of a triangle are lines that create a
perpendicular line on one side of the triangle with the vertex of the opposite side. The
orthocenter varies strongly depending on the specific triangle. The distances between the
orthocenter and the vertices are always very different, and in our situation, the location of the
hospital would be ridiculously close to one of the cities, and very far from the others. A person
could use the incenter for the answer in the hospital problem because it accounts for the trails
/paths taken to one city from another. However, it doesn t account for the cities, only their paths.
Someone might use the centroid for the hospital problem because the centroid has equal area
surrounding it, which is why it is considered the center of gravity, as it is where everything
balances equally. Because of this, the area between each of the hospitals paths are equal.
However, it still isn t of equal distance from each of the three capitals. A person would use the
circumcenter because it would be equidistant from each of the three cities, making the traveling
time for each equal and fair. The circumcenter is clearly the best option. Out of the four, it makes
the most sense because it is equidistant from each

The Setting for Thomas Hardy s The Withered Arm and Other Wessex Tales
In the following essay I seek to show evidence of how Thomas Hardy was acutely aware of the
social status of people, how village and town life was conducted, how men and women reacted to
their own sex and to each other and the part religion played in people s daily lives.
Social class is raised a lot in Hardy s pieces. Even though these stories were all written at a different
time and then put together, you can see it is a strong theme in the book.
In the Withered Arm, there is instantly a strong sense of upper and lower class. You learn of a

country life it does not matter the way you speak, but who you are inside.
A big comparison has been made in this story between men and women. Even though Sophy was

Flannery O Connor s tone in Everything That Rises Must Converge is uncovering to what
individuals are prepared to do when they permit their psyches to just expend the conventions of
everyone around them, and not settle on their own choices. All through the story, the characters are
frank with their sentiments, which most come from, how they have grown up and the trails they
have confronted amid their lifetime. The hardened mother, speaking to the Old South, is
unequipped for tolerating integration while Julian, speaking to the New South, keeps on

The Passion Of The Christ
Passion of the Christ
In this film Passion of the Christ the scene begins with Jesus being brought into a Roman court
yard bound in shackles and chains, limping and visibly beaten from the night before. Jesus was
arrested in the early am hours so that any protest of the Pharisees behaviors would not be made.
The elders of the Synagogue want to be in full control of what happens to Jesus. In this analysis I
will explain my viewpoint of Why it was so vital for bad things to happen to this man and What
good can come from violence being displayed in this manner?
Jesus is brought in to stand trial before Pilate a Roman governor. Pilate clearly does not want to
condemn this man; this was partly because he sees no real crime committed and partly because
of a vision his wife had in a dream. Pilate first asks the Jewish High Priests Do you always punish
your prisoners before they re judged? Pilate questions Caiaphas and Jesus and finds no merit
worthy of death and tries to pass the decision of Jesus fate off to King Herod. However, King
Herod gets nowhere with his line of questioning towards Jesus so he sends the decision back to
Pilate. Pilate undeniably does not wish to crucify this man and attempts to free him by allowing a
choice for a prisoner to be freed. Yet, to his surprise the people decide to free Barabbas, a murder,
over freeing Jesus, a non violent man. This decision was thanks to the persuasion of Caiaphas and
the other men of the cloth. Once again, Pilate

work in the fields, slaves were often beaten in front of the faces of their relatives, which added

1.URL Type
The first step is to identify whether the URL is of http or https. In the beginning, network
administrators had to figure out how to share the information they put out on the Internet. It is
agreed on a procedure for exchanging information and called it HyperText Transfer Protocol.
Using HTTPS, the computers agree on a code between them, and then they scramble the messages
using that code so that no one in between can read them. This keeps your information safe from
hackers. It uses the code on a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), sometimes called Transport Layer
Security (TLS) to send the information back and forth.

The next step is to obtain the IP address from the domain name. This is performed by DNS. A
DNS lookup, in a general sense, is the process by which a DNS record is returned from a DNS
server. Interconnected computers, servers and smart phones need to know how to translate the
email addresses and domain names people use into meaningful numerical addresses. A DNS lookup
performs this function.
The two types of DNS lookups are forward DNS lookups and reverse DNS lookups. Forward DNS
is a type of DNS request in which a domain name is used to obtain its corresponding IP address. A
DNS server is said to resolve a domain name when it returns its IP address. A forward DNS... Show

Children , asserts that because of being in conditions of constant stress and threat [from abuse and
trauma], children may have trouble utilizing their cognitive skills (155). Furthermore, Dennis
asserts that because of the conditions that the children experienced they exhibited behaviors that

These are also true for the monster. The presence of abuse and trauma during the development of
the monster affected his cognition, behavior, his idea of self worth, and his ability to connect
with others. The monster having experienced abuse and trauma from his interaction with
humans before, he become traumatized with violence. This is highlighted when he saw Felix
was about to strike him for the second time he was overcome by pain and anguish, [he] quitted
the cottage (Shelley 95) to escape. Furthermore, his behavior also becomes erratic and volatile.
This is shown when he wished to tear up the trees, spread havoc and destruction, and then sit
down and enjoy the ruin (Shelley 95) after his interaction with the De Laceys. In addition, it is
evident that his perception of himself is as a wretch , even saying All men hate the wretched;
how then must I be hated, who am miserable beyond all living things! (Shelley 67 68). Finally,
because of his experience with the barbarity of man , he is very cautious when approaching other
people. This was displayed when he longed to join [the De Laceys], but dared

Cons Of Slum Tourism, Crass Voyeurism Or Virtuous Travel
Slum Tourism should be allowed because it can change perceptions of poverty. People see
poverty in different ways, some express pity while other express disgust, while still others have
never experienced poverty. Slum tours allow people to see the other side of the world, the reality
that impoverished people face everyday. The article The Pros and Cons of Slum Tourism
, Crass
Voyeurism or Virtuous Travel?, by Leyla Giray Alyanak depicts slum tourism in countries such as
Brazil, South Africa, the Philippines and Kenya. As a result slum tourists made her change her
perspective about poverty. For instance, Leyla Giray visited Rocinha, located in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil. In the article she records that the tour gave her a better understanding of poverty, and how
poverty can be the cause of addiction and crime something that... Show more content on

People who support slum tourism argue that slum tourism benefits communities in countless
different ways. On the other hand, people who are against virtuous travel argue that slum tourism
is not helpful and it just hurts people from impoverished communities and damages the image of
the country. For instance the article The Pros and Cons of Slum Tourism, Crass Voyeurism or
Virtuous Travel?, explore the disagreeable side of slum tourism. For instance slum tours do not
treat local people with respect, toures see them as animals in a zoo which make local people feel
degraded. . In fact foreigners violate the privacy of local people by peering into the houses and
taking selfies in front of houses. Also slum tours ruin the image of the country and create
stereotypes, people who might visit the country might just focus on the bad side of the country
which are the slums. Lastly slums tourism make poverty seems exotic, people taking pictures of
homeless children almost glamorizing improves environment that local people have to live

The Marketing Mix Of Marketing
Marketing is essentially the act of creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings
that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. There are many important
components of marketing, including the marketing mix. Generally, the marketing mix refers to the
4 P s, product, price, place and promotion. Place is also referred to distribution, which is what will
be discussed in the subsequent sections. Alternative strategies relating to distribution will be
presented, a final strategy will be selected and the reasoning behind the choosing will be discussed.
The alternative strategies will revolve around marketingchannel, direct and retailer. Distribution
intensity, exclusive and intensive along with channel intermediaries will be discussed in
conjunction. Additionally, it should be noted that this discussion of distribution revolves around a
backpack that is to be targeted at Outdoor Enthusiasts, in the simulation, Marketing Practice. It
should be noted that intensive distribution was not a considered strategy due to the inability to
successfully apply this intensity in the simulation given the target segment and product price.
A marketing channel is a set of interdependent organisations that facilitate the transfer of ownership
as products move from producer to consumer. There are different types of marketing channels, some
of which utilise channel intermediaries, which are individuals or firms that link producers to other
intermediaries or

Expansionism As A Policy Of Promoting Economic Growth
Expansionism is a policy of promoting economic growth. The main concern arises when expanding
territory does not prove to be beneficial to all races, as its growth in territory may simply be
destruction for others. The expansionism and encroachment forced by capitalists can ultimately be
categorized as oppression and white superiority, as it resulted in the deterioration of culture, natural
rights, and mental stability for the Native Americans. The interests of the white capitalists to
acquire Western land limited the natural rights of the Native Americans. It is the beliefs of white
superiority and falsified authority that lead to the mistreatment of indigenous people like the Native
Americans. Several incidents in American history present white capitalists neglecting the opinions
and rights of Indians, for profit and expansionism, as An estimated two million indigenous people in
the United Stateswere reduced, through slaughter, starvation, and disease, to less than a quarter of
a million people by 1900 (Kratzer). Although the Treaty of Fort Laramie of 1868 stated that no
white person or persons shall be permitted to enter the Black Hills, the administration of Ulysses
S. Grant pressured the Indians to sell the Black Hills, as it was a major resource of gold (Miller).
The Native Americans adamantly refused to sell the Black Hills, as the mountain range held
significant cultural importance to them. These statements were not given for consideration by the

The Importance Of Bias In Literature
Few modern authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political debate, or
literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction author Ken Macleod suggests that the
world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional consequences
of dialogue is misunderstanding, some of which is caused by reader bias (Macleod, James,
Mendlesohn 231). Bias is dangerous to readers and they should, consequently, avoid it for at
least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be regarded in many contradicting ways;
second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments are made, and third, it results in
significant elements of the story being ignored. Though, one should not construe this in such a
way as to denote that this report is so much about the book itself as about the overall scope of it
in relation to Heinlein, the bias levied for or against the book and him as well as their overall
message, and the meaning of the work itself. It is vital that it be understood that in this context bias
is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions
rather than on the data presented. It is equally important to understand that the human mind looks
for patterns, the term for this phenomenon is pareidolia, in which people see hidden faces in clouds
or even hear nonexistent messages in songs. It is because the mind seeks to recognize patterns,
even where none exist. Similarly, people who

Bank Of Americ An Ethical Dilemma
An ethical dilemma plays an important role in business. Ethical dilemma moral situation where a
choice have to be made between two equally unwanted alternatives. While a business dilemma
according to Fernando (2009) is when the decision maker of organization meets a choice between
two or more variants that will have a different influence on income, competitiveness and
shareholders of organization. As the chairman and CEO of Bank of America, Lewis takes a
responsibility to instruct the shareholders about the adverse conditions with Merrill Lynchmerger.
The same applies goes to Thain who deluded shareholders about financial problems in Merrill
Lynch and the bonuses paid. Another point is that Thain and Lewis pay out bonuses before
acquisition of the deal. On the other point of view, Lewis had responsibility to the overall well
being of the U.S and global financial system. Another major crisis will affect Bank of America
shareholders and customers. No matter what Lewis chooses, anyway it will influence to a lot of
people. The best choice was to choose one that will minimize the damages. Obviously, Lewis and
Thain should not pay out bonuses before acquisition. They acted unethically, but if Thain reveal the
bonuses before the acquisition, it will impact on his employees who might have lose their jobs,
shareholders who might have lose money... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

issue. Though each phases of work for this Ecological Solid Waste Management Plan presents its

opportunities in our environment are effectively dealt and strategically used. Community residents,
business establishments, and institutions in the area lack the knowledge in ecological solid waste

American Exceptionalism By George Washington
American Exceptionalism is the term that imperialists in the United States regularly use to claim
that their country is unusual or amazing. American exceptionalism defend to the exceptional
character of the United States as an inimitably free country centered on democratic principles and
personal liberty. American Exceptionalism is an issue that has been existed from early years and
George Washingtonis one of the key pieces in this issue.
The U.S history maintenance the idea of American Exceptionalism because this country have done
so much and have incredible stuffs like children and disability support, insurance, study
opportunities, etc. George Washington is an example that U.S. and its population are unique in
several ways. George Washington (1732 99) was commander in chief of the Continental Army
during the American Revolutionary War(1775 83) and served two terms as the first U.S. president,
from 1789 to 1797. Washington proved to be a better general than military strategist, his strength
lay not in his genius on the battlefield but in his ability to keep the struggling colonial army
together. Envisioning Washington as an early master of guerrilla warfare helps to explain his
success, he fought as a guerrilla because he lacked the resources to do otherwise, he husbanded
his resources and avoided set piece battles unless he knew he could win, also if he calculated he
would lose, he retreated so as not to lose what small forces he possessed.
George Washington was

Essay on The Water Shortage in Australia
The Water Shortage in Australia First of all it is necessary to define what the term water shortage
means. For some people, it means having to constantly traverse long distances just to reach a
source of fresh water and to collect it. For others, water shortage means to content themselves with
water only for a part of day. And finally, there are some regions in which people suffer from
droughts that lead to a great amount of deaths. Therefore, in modern world problem with deficiency
in fresh water has become burning question, which needed immediate solution. According to Peter
Rogers, it is not right to consider that providing drinking water is problem that affects only
developing nations with dense population. It is easy to see... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In support of this data she says that our society is moving rapidly into urban areas, and, as a
result, we re experiencing more and more water shortage problems . (Clarke, 2013) As already
mentioned, another problem, which has considerable influence on this situation, is climate
change. It is generally known, that climate is closely related with local rainfall and water
availability. Peter Rogers claims that surveys, which investigate the effects of climate change
on water availability by 2025 display that it will bring scarcity to loads of places. It is expected
that climate change will exacerbate aridity and reduce supply in many regions, which lead to
droughts. (Rogers, 2008) It came to the Mighty Murray , one of the Australia s major river, is
on the verge of collapse: in some places, children can jump over it. (Water Use, 2011) One more
reason for existing situation is irrational waste of water. If we want to find an adequate solution to
this problem, we must try to define how much freshwater each person requires and what factors
impede supply and increase demand. Malin Falkenmark estimates that each person in the world
needs approximately 1,000 cubic meters of freshwater per year. This number includes water for
drinking, growing food, hygiene and sanitation (Rogers, 2008). One of the possible solutions

  • 2. Popular Film Conventions From its beginning in the 1890s, the film industry has never been stagnant. Consumers continuously spend their hard earned money on the films that are released in theaters every week. However, choosing which film to buy tickets for can be rather difficult. Thankfully, the hundreds of movies that have been released can be grouped into several genres such as, comedy, horror, and fantasy. A very popular filmgenre for all movie lovers is the comedy. A comedy is a film which is intended to amuse the audience with light hearted humor. These motion pictures provoke enjoyment and often exaggerate characteristics of real life as well as the characteristics of the actors and actresses in them. The setting of this classification ordinarily takes place in a mythical, medieval, or other whimsical location. Several renowned films of this genre include the Labyrinth, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The film industry will never idle and will continue to rapidly produce movies, thus a system of organization is necessary. Leaking pipes, leaking windows, and leaking roofs are all conceivable sources of moisture that can lead to mold invasion (Sodipe 2013). Cellulose or carbohydrate based materials make adequate nutrient sources for molds (Cooper 2007). Consecutive periods of water damage can enhance fungal growth and mycotoxin production, when followed by drier conditions these fungi can release spores and hyphal fragments (Nielsen 2003). Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites of molds that exert toxic effects on mammles, spacifically humans (Peraica, Radic, Lucic, Pavlovic, 1999). To make matters worse, famine devastated India from 1899 to 1902. Thus, large scale immigration began in 1906, when six hundred Asians applied to enter the United States. Many Indians were farmers back in India, but when they came to the United States they had to take jobs no one else would. They also encountered prejudice. Whites sometimes associated the Asian Indian immigrants with blacks, Chinese, or Japanese. Very often, Asian Indians were blamed for the violence directed towards them. Whites did not want or try to understand Indian culture and traditions. The Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore (a winner of the Noble Prize in literature) traveled to North America. When he applied for entry to the United States, Tagore encountered difficulties and when he finally made it to the country, he experienced racial prejudice in Los Angeles. He cancelled his tour and returned to India, saying in disgust, Jesus could not get into America because, first of all, he would not have the necessary money, and secondly, He would be an Asiatic. Segment C is the scene that consists of the cherub statues, the collapsing iron gate, and the lion statues. Segment C consists of nine shots. In segment B the shots continue to intensify the narrative especially seeing the helpless baby in the carriage on the cusp of descending down the steps, and then the solider slashing people with his saber, and the woman who was shot in the eye. In my opinion, these all continue to intensify the narrative because the shots are brief but it s all shocking and addresses the spectator especially when the woman who is shot in the eye looks at the camera in horror. Segment B continues to shock one, whereas segment C disrupts the continuity of the scene. Segment A is also disruptive like segment C because of the title that says and suddenly, and the lady who is shaking her head and yelling, and then the lady with the white parasol heading toward the camera, although this is disruptive it also intensifies the narrative because the narrative completely switches from the people waving to the people beginning to run for their ... Impact of Cost benefit analysis on industry decision making: Transportation Cost benefit analysis (CBA), in essence, is a tool for decision making. It can be applied to almost any kind of decision in any kind of field. In its most pure form, a CBA will aggregate the pros and cons (positive and negative effects) of a proposal, and, if the pros (benefits) outweigh the cons (costs ), the proposal is viable. Usually, the analyst will assign monetary values to each of the costs and benefits, hence making the analysis easier to calculate, even if the cost and benefits per se are intangible, and thus, not directly expressible in money values. Problems often arise in how to assess the monetary values of both tangible and intangible effects, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any threat to the reliability of the transportation network constitutes a vulnerable spot, a weakness. This is of particular concern when considering sparse, rural networks, because what by urban standards is a minor degradation (i.e. car accident, resulting in queuing, delays and diversions) may have severe consequences if occurring in a rural setting (i.e. blocking the only access road for hours). In the most common manner of speaking, the reliability of a transportation network can be defined as the probability that one or more of its links functions, or rather: does not fail to function, according to a set standard of operating variables. A non functioning, or at best, badly functioning link will impose costs on the user in terms of loss of time, additional operation costs or other costs as a result of delays and diversions. Transporters of perishable goods will also experience a loss of value. Few will question that the sender, the recipient, the freight hauler, or society at large, experience additional costs when goods or people cannot reach their destinations in time or in space (Husdal, 2004). The increase in just in time (JIT) manufacturing operations has made a reliable travel time an important economic factor. JIT relies on the transportation system to take advantage of lowcost labor and manufacturing plant development costs. Producing components in several manufacturing plants and ... They just hurt their selves when they procrastinate, because when people procrastinate they usually get an over amount of stress just because they didn t do it earlier when they could have. Procrastination is a huge sign that students like to wear and show their teachers how much they care. That s the thing, if people don t show their teacher that they care then they will most likely not care about students grade, but if they show that they do care their teacher will probably focus more on helping their grade. Some were used to carry troops and supplies, some were used as bombers, and some were used to attack directly. The P 51 Mustang, the Boeing P 17 Flying Fortress, and the Martin B 26 Marauder are just a few examples of these. Even though each plane had a different job, they all came together to help win the war. The P 51 Mustang was commissioned by the British Royal Air Force, and was built by North American Aviation. The Mustang ran on the Packard V 1650 7 engine, which was a version of the Rolls Royce Merlin 66 and was mounted with six .50 caliber M2/AN Browning machine guns. Moving beyond a standard education plan for integrating research results into existing curricula, this proposal emphasizes a proactive effort to offer next generation engineers an interdisciplinary training experience by using the proposed research of low power intelligent sensors. This education plan is targeting high schoolstudents and middle schoolteachers, as well as students from minority groups. Some planned activities have been explored by the PI with very positive feedbacks and evaluations. The background is based on the premise that future academic and industrial projects will require engineers to adopt a system level perspective and work with interdisciplinary teams [129]. Accordingly, current engineering students are expected to have system design experiences, and the ability to prototype demonstration systems, and also be able to communicate with engineers working in other areas, as well as identify potential market demand based on available technologies [130]. To date, this type of experience has not been offered sufficiently in classroom lectures and laboratory sessions [131]. Presently, our pedagogical practices tend to focus on conveying technical knowledge rather than giving students experience in system development [132]. • 22. Summary Of John Searle s Argument John Searle first proposed the argument known as The Chinese Room Argument in a book he wrote in 1984. The argument is well known if not famous and has become one of the best know arguments in recent philosophy. Searle imagines himself locked in a room following a computer program for responding to questions written in Chinese characters slipped under the door. Searle does not understand Chinese writing, but he can follow the computer program to manipulate symbols and numerals to easily respond to the questions without fully understanding even what he was being asked or responding. The narrow conclusion of the argument is that following instructions and programming a computer might make it seem to understand Chinese but doesn t have a real... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the fact that Searle is inside the room and does not actually understand Chinese, he claims the Chinese Room cannot be cognitively. Therefor, the Chinese Room would be functionally equivalent but not cognitively equivalent to the native Chinese speakers and furthermore, if the Chinese Room can imitate understanding without truly having it, then both Strong AI and Functionalism would have to be invalid. Functionalism s imperative is to show that functional equivalence must always equal cognitive equivalence, so if one could show functional equivalence did not equal cognitive equivalence then Functionalism would be invalid. Additionally, if a computer or some other system could imitate intelligence without retaining understanding, then strong AI would be invalid as well. Strong AI is the view that if a machine can successfully imitate human intelligence in a way that it becomes functionally and cognitively equivalent to a mind, then the computer itself is a mind. Strong AI and its advocates respond to Searle s claims by applying the Systems Reply. The Systems Reply states that despite the fact that Searle does not understand Chinese in the Chinese Room, the system as a whole does in fact understand Chinese. Just because Searle, or the ... In this scenario, they want a medical facility capable of things that require new technology, however. Instead of each city building their own, the three cities want to share one. The assignment is to find the fairest center point for the facility between the three capitals. Some constraints in this problem include the geography of the area the correct point of concurrency, which will vary depending on the area. For example, if the correct center is in the middle of a lake, that may not be the best option. To avoid this, it is much easier to find the correct point and then select the city closest to it. The orthocenter is the point of intersection of the three altitudes of a triangle. The three altitudes of a triangle are lines that create a perpendicular line on one side of the triangle with the vertex of the opposite side. The orthocenter varies strongly depending on the specific triangle. The distances between the orthocenter and the vertices are always very different, and in our situation, the location of the hospital would be ridiculously close to one of the cities, and very far from the others. A person could use the incenter for the answer in the hospital problem because it accounts for the trails /paths taken to one city from another. However, it doesn t account for the cities, only their paths. Someone might use the centroid for the hospital problem because the centroid has equal area surrounding it, which is why it is considered the center of gravity, as it is where everything balances equally. Because of this, the area between each of the hospitals paths are equal. However, it still isn t of equal distance from each of the three capitals. A person would use the circumcenter because it would be equidistant from each of the three cities, making the traveling time for each equal and fair. The circumcenter is clearly the best option. Jesus is brought in to stand trial before Pilate a Roman governor. • 42. Expansionism As A Policy Of Promoting Economic Growth Expansionism is a policy of promoting economic growth. The main concern arises when expanding territory does not prove to be beneficial to all races, as its growth in territory may simply be destruction for others. The expansionism and encroachment forced by capitalists can ultimately be categorized as oppression and white superiority, as it resulted in the deterioration of culture, natural rights, and mental stability for the Native Americans. The interests of the white capitalists to acquire Western land limited the natural rights of the Native Americans. It is the beliefs of white superiority and falsified authority that lead to the mistreatment of indigenous people like the Native Americans. Several incidents in American history present white capitalists neglecting the opinions and rights of Indians, for profit and expansionism, as An estimated two million indigenous people in the United Stateswere reduced, through slaughter, starvation, and disease, to less than a quarter of a million people by 1900 (Kratzer). Although the Treaty of Fort Laramie of 1868 stated that no white person or persons shall be permitted to enter the Black Hills, the administration of Ulysses S. Grant pressured the Indians to sell the Black Hills, as it was a major resource of gold (Miller). The Native Americans adamantly refused to sell the Black Hills, as the mountain range held significant cultural importance to them. These statements were not given for consideration by the white ... • 43. The Importance Of Bias In Literature Few modern authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political debate, or literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction author Ken Macleod suggests that the world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional consequences of dialogue is misunderstanding, some of which is caused by reader bias (Macleod, James, Mendlesohn 231). Bias is dangerous to readers and they should, consequently, avoid it for at least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be regarded in many contradicting ways; second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments are made, and third, it results in significant elements of the story being ignored. Though, one should not construe this in such a way as to denote that this report is so much about the book itself as about the overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein, the bias levied for or against the book and him as well as their overall message, and the meaning of the work itself. It is vital that it be understood that in this context bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions rather than on the data presented. It is equally important to understand that the human mind looks for patterns, the term for this phenomenon is pareidolia, in which people see hidden faces in clouds or even hear nonexistent messages in songs. It is because the mind seeks to recognize patterns, even where none exist. Similarly, people who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In support of this data she says that our society is moving rapidly into urban areas, and, as a result, we re experiencing more and more water shortage problems . (Clarke, 2013) As already mentioned, another problem, which has considerable influence on this situation, is climate change. It is generally known, that climate is closely related with local rainfall and water availability. Peter Rogers claims that surveys, which investigate the effects of climate change on water availability by 2025 display that it will bring scarcity to loads of places. It is expected that climate change will exacerbate aridity and reduce supply in many regions, which lead to droughts. (Rogers, 2008) It came to the Mighty Murray , one of the Australia s major river, is on the verge of collapse: in some places, children can jump over it. (Water Use, 2011) One more reason for existing situation is irrational waste of water.
