The document provides guidance for tracking the music video production process in two sections - filming and editing. For filming, the document instructs to include details of any technical problems, issues with location/cast/crew, and planning. For editing, it instructs to record edit progress, decisions, problems through screenshots, statements, and explanations of how and why certain edits were made. 2. PRODUCTION LOG:
GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical creation
of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down into two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.

3. FILMING
Overall there were little technical problems faced as I had all the equipment needed
when filming and knew how to use each piece so there were no issues.
The location was also mostly successful. The positives were that it was a beautiful
location and it was very quite making it a very good filming location. The issues faced
were the distance as it had to be planned far ahead in time to get the best day of filming
possible.
There were a few issues with the cast/crew. This is because I had planned to film with
someone else’s equipment far ahead in time and I could never get it, this issue was
resolved by using college equipment but it was a big setback.
The planning was ok, but could have been improved. This is because the original plan
would have been good, but I had no backup plan so when the first plan failed I had
nothing else to do which made filming a much bigger issue than it needed to be.
Overall I think I should have filmed more to get the best footage possible and also fill
out my music video a good portion more.

4. FILMING –
PRODUCTION STILLS
Where appropriate add stills from when you were filming,
annotate where necessary
This was the only location used
to film throughout
the entire music video as the location was very large,
giving us lots of space to film.

5. EDITING
• Record your edit progress, decisions, problems, etc. in
this section
• Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc.
• Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose
to work the way you did.
• Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as
this is necessary for evidence for assessment

6. EDITING 1
There were no edits in the first shot, this is because I wanted
this shot to make the music video to begin like a home made
video, so I thought it would be best to leave the raw footage
and audio in. The following image displays the timeline as it
is the only section of the video to contain audio that is not
from the music.

7. EDITING 2
The second shot had two edits throughout. The first, more complicated shot
was to include the title of the song in the shot, this was done by manually
moving the title horizontally to match the movement of the camera, so it
pans into view. This was done so viewers know the title of the song and also
have it be appealing and natural for the shot. The other edit was simple
colour grading to make the blues less bright and have the orange more
noticeable to make the beach look more appealing.

8. EDITING 3
The only change to this shot was to reduce the amount of white there was in
the shot, as you could not see as well when the shot was unedited. This also
made the blue sky stand out better which helped make the shot look much
better.

9. EDITING 4
The editing on this shot was the same as shot 3 as I needed to reduce the
amount of white in the shot to improve the background and increase the
amount of blue very slightly.

10. EDITING 5
The first edit done to shot 5 was that I decreased the brightness by
decreasing the amount of white while also very slightly increasing the
amount of black in the shot, this helped darken the image to increase the
vibrance of other colours to make it a better establishing shot.

11. EDITING 6
In this shot, the only change made was to reduce the amount of red in this
shot, this was very beneficial as it helped improve the look of the sand and
also made the person in the shot look much less red. The reason this issue
arose was because when filming it was very cold so the person's nose and
cheeks went red, this colour correction fixed the issue after.

12. EDITING 7
The only issue in this shot was the sunlight, this made the shot much to
bright when looking back. I managed to fix this issue by reducing the
saturation by 25%, this made the shot slightly darker which made it much
easier to see the background.

13. EDITING 8
This shot was not changed as I was very happy with the establishing shot,
this is because nothing stands out too much, making the viewer look at
every aspect of the shot, making them thoroughly take in their surroundings.

14. EDITING 9
This shot cause many problems when rewatching it in premiere pro, this
issue was that the camera was rotating as the shot took place. I was not able
to completely fix this but I used premiere pro’s rotation tool to help make the
turn less noticeable as it was not intended to be there.

15. EDITING 10
While filming this shot, there were clouds covering the sun, making it much
darker than the others. To fix this issue I simply increased the amount of
white there was in the shot, brightening it enough to match the others.

16. EDITING 11
No adjustments were made in this shot either as I believed the lighting was
great and the blue clothing made the person stand out well making this a
successful shot.

17. EDITING 12
During this shot, I used the saturation tool to make the shot completely
black and white over a short amount of time, this was done through timing
how quickly the saturation lowered, this helped match the tone of the song
and story.

18. EDITING 13
Throughout this entire shot the saturation has been lowered 100% to match
the chorus of the song.
I also placed one line of the lyrics and had it disappear with the character
walking out of shot. This was difficult to do as it had to be done frame by
frame for the best look, making me spend much more time on this shot
compared to others.

19. EDITING 14
This shot is similar to the previous as the saturation remains lowered by
100%.
There is also text from the lyrics included in this shot, but this time it is a
static image that remains above the person walking through the shot.

20. EDITING 15
In this shot the saturation timer is once again used as the saturation
increases back to a normal amount as the shot progresses, this is done as
the chorus ends to help the plot match with the song.

21. EDITING 16
This shot also has no editing or colour correction done to it as I believe the
shot was well done and no changes were needed.

22. EDITING 17
This shot is the same as the previous as I have not made any changes to the
shot through editing or colour correction due to the same reason as the
previous shot.

23. EDITING 18
This shot once again uses the saturation timer to slowly lower the saturation
to 0% to begin the chorus, this shot also showed difficulty filming as I could
not use the tripod for this shot which made filming a bit shaky.

24. EDITING 19
This shot then raises the saturation slightly
throughout the timer once again the same way it
was done previously.
There was also text used in this shot that pans
off to the side using the same methods used in
the second shot.

25. EDITING 20
This next shot leaves the saturation on 70%. This is done because I wanted
the whites to stand out more to make the shot more appealing to look at, I
believe I have done this well by removing the other colours slightly.
I have also placed more text that moves from the left to right, opposite to the
person in shot.

26. EDITING 21
The only edit done in this shot was some slight colour grading, this was
done by making the shadows have larger amounts of blue and also making
the highlights more orange to make the whole shot warmer and more
appealing to look at.

27. EDITING 22
This shot has the exact same changes done to it as the previous shot, this is
used to make the previous shot look similar to this to make it more pleasing
to look at.

28. EDITING 23
This shot has firstly increased the amount of white in the shot to make it
look brighter so it matches the other shots. I have also decreased the
amount of red in the shot so the person looks less red in his face.

29. EDITING 24
Through this shot, the saturation slowly increases to match the person's
mood and to slowly make the area look much nicer.

30. EDITING 25
This shot is the same as shot 22 and 21 as I have changed the shadows and
highlights for a more appealing shot, as this is used to show the new area.

31. EDITING 26
This shot is edited the same way as the previous as it is meant to be another
appealing shot, while also focusing on the two people in shot.

32. EDITING 27
This shot is unchanged until the very end of the shot as there is a very rapid
fade to black to finish off the video.

33. EDITING 28
The final shot is nothing but a black background with a small, brief fade of
the title card. This is followed by the music also fading out to end the music
video.

34. EDITING –
FILE MANAGEMENT
Screenshot and annotate where you have saved your work
and how you have organised your footage so you know
where it is – this will also include your audio track for your
video and any other images, found footage, etc
I kept all my footage for
my music video on two
seperate folders, one on
my personal computer
and the other at my
college computer, I
would then email myself
files to send them
between each
computer.

35. EDITING –
SETTING UP PREMIERE
Screenshot and annotate how you have set up a new Premiere Pro project – indicate
what you called it, where you saved it
You should also show how you set up your timeline, indicating the video settings used
[e.g. DSLR 1080p 25]
When I opened Adobe Premiere Pro I pressed
the ‘New Project’ button and used the setting
displayed on the left.
I then stored the file on my desktop so it was
easy to find.
I also kept autosaves on my desktop in case the
program crashes I will have a backup from a
short while ago so it is not a big setback.

36. EDITING –
IMPORTING FOOTAGE
Show how you imported your footage, your file set up in
Premiere and how you have organised your different docs
[video, audio, etc]
I began to export the video by pressing
the keys ‘CTRL+M’ to export the
media, this then opened the media on
the left.
I then changed the format to ‘H.264’
and the video preset to ‘YouTube
1080p Full HD’ so I can upload the
video to YouTube.
Finally I pressed the export button at
the bottom of the menu which exported
the video.

37. EDITING –
WORKSPACE
Show and describe the Premiere Pro workspace – preview
window, bins, timeline, playback window, tool bar, audio
levels, etc
The image above shows the primary workspace used in Premiere Pro. This workspace shows the
timeline, which displays every single piece of video and audio in chronological order. It also displays for
audio how many decibels the audio is playing at, so I can then adjust it accordingly. The workspace
also shows different tools I can use for the video. The main tools used was the arrow tool, which was
used to move the order of the shots and audio files, and the razor tool to cut parts of the clips that were
not needed.

38. EDITING –
ASSEMBLY EDIT
Show how you put together your basic sequence in the order
you want it – previewing clips, dragging to the timeline,
trimming/cutting, etc
If you have a lip sync, pay special attention to showing how
you synchronised the footage with the audio track
I first placed all the needed media into the file on inside of premiere pro(the
image on the right). This then allowed me to place any video/audio clip into the
timeline(the image underneath). I could then use a tool given called the ‘razor
tool’ to trim any piece of video or audio down to what I needed it too be. I could
also preview any videos by double clicking on the media in the file to look at it
and adjust it.

39. EDITING –
REFINEMENT
Show and explain how you have refined and improved your
initial sequence edit
The way I could refine my work is
through the page shown on the left.
This portion of premiere pro is used
to edit any individual shots or audio
clips. This can be done in multiple
ways, this could be done through
colour grading (Lumetri Color), to
make the shot look nicer through
many different colour adjustments. I
can also edit through effects
premiere pro includes to also adjust
video/audio clips.

40. EDITING –
COLOUR
CORRECTION/SFX
Show and explain your colour correction
process/effects process – use staged screenshots
to show each part of the process and the effect.
Explain why you chose to do this
The one colour grading tool I used on every shot was changing the shadow
tint to have a slightly larger amount of blue in them, I also changed the
highlights to a slightly larger amount of orange. This is done to firstly make
the video look warmer without significantly changing the video, and also
making the shadows look slightly bolder.
Another technique used in some shots was adjusting the colour curves. This
was done if I needed there to be more/less of one colour in a shot, for
example some shots made the person being filmed look more red, I then
used the curve to reduce how much red there was in the shot to remove that
red look.
The final use of colour correction used were the adjustments shown in the
images on the right. These were used mainly to reduce the amount of
saturation in each shot but could also be used for other purposes like
changing the vibrance.

41. EDITING –
EXPORT
Show how you exported your completed project, show which
settings you have used and explain your choice of file name
and where you have saved it
I began to export the video by pressing ‘CTRL+M’ to bring up
the menu on the right. I then changed the video format to
‘H.264’. The finally before I pressed ‘Export’ I changed the
preset for the video to’ YouTube 1080p Full HD’ so the video
could be uploaded to YouTube at a good quality.
I then saved the video project, the exported video and the file
containing everything used throughout the project all on my
desktop for quick access and making sure it is always easy to
find. I also kept the names simple so I know what I am clicking
on the moment I read them, helping me to do any work more
efficiently.
