Antagonism Between Ja And Cytokinin
Antagonism between JA and cytokinin is of common occurrence in various plant growth and
developmental processes. Cytokinin, benzyladenine (BA) has been reported to antagonize the effect of
JA on root growth promotion in Solanum tuberosum (Sarkar et al., 2006). In cotyledons of sunflower
(Helianthus annuus), MeJA promoted senescence, whereas pretreatment with cytokinin partially
blocked MeJA induced senescence (Mukherjee et al., 2002). Liu et al. (2015) concluded that
exogenous applications of JA and cytokinin antagonistically regulated leaf senescence in O. sativa
senescence associated genes expression. They also proposed that leaf senescence not only depends on
the level of JA or cytokinin but also on the balance between JA and cytokinin (Liu et al., 2015).
Earlier, Ananieva and Ananiev (2003) argued that MeJA promoted some aspects of senescence in
intact Cucurbita pepo cotyledons partially due to down regulation of endogenous levels of cytokinine
levels and interconversion between active and inactive forms of cytokines (Ananieva and Ananiev,
2003). Apart from the above reports, antagonistic effect of cytokinins on the stimulatory effect of JAs
has also been observed in potato tuber formation under in vitro conditions (Sarkar et al., 2006). A
synergistic effect of JA and cytokinin has also been reported in T. aestivum to alleviate effects of
salinity stress.

Viking Impact On Northern England
The term Viking is essentially defined as a person who lurks in a vik or bay. The name Viking was
given to those of a Scandinavian race, who became known for their raids and settlements of Europe
between the years of 700 and 1100. Stereotypically, Vikings are habitually referred to or regarded as
barbarians, heathens and savage north men with no concept of Christian integrity, they were
considered as lacking reputable mannerisms and their presence in England was that of a punishment
by the Lord himself. In this essay I will be exploring the Vikings impact on the history and identity of
Northern England. It is significant to note that the modern perception of what is Northern England
differs to that of the Northern England during the era of Scandinavian raids, and that the amount of
evidence available is primarily of English origin. Despite this, ... Show more content on

Lindisfarne gospels, in conjunction with this, the monastery was home to many religious artefacts,
bestowed by noblemen as a gift to God. Lindisfarne is particularly significant as it was the only

Effect Of The Business Cycle Essay
This study uses time series data from the CPS March data to investigate the effect of the business
cycle from 2003 to 2014 on the wage differentials between females and males. The CPS is a monthly
sample survey of approximately 60,000 households conducted by the Census Bureau for the Bureau of
Labor Statistics, which can be considered as the primary source of labor force statistics for the
population of the United States. This study also uses data from the Local Area Unemployment
Statistics (LAUS) to get the state unemployment rate from 2003 to 2014. LAUS is a Federal State
cooperative effort that publishes monthly estimates of employment and unemployment for
approximately 7,300 areas, including all states, countries, metropolitan areas, and cities with a
population of 25,000 or more, by residence. Labor force data from the LAUS program follows the
same CPS concepts and definitions used for the national labor force data. In particular, this study uses
the seasonal adjustment monthly state unemployment rate, which eliminates the influences of weather,
holidays, the opening and closing of schools, and other recurring seasonal events from economic time
series. Since the CPS collects data through interviewing a limited amount of people, it cannot fully
represent the labor market of the United States because of the sample selection bias. Also, since the
CPS data is gathered by interviews, the status of survey respondents is only determined by how they
respond to the survey.

The Importance Of Direct Democracy
As citizens of the United States, Americans have the responsibility of understanding their abilities in
regards to contribution to political decisions. Especially in recent years, Americans have come to
realize the true significance of direct democracy or a lack thereof. Although on a federal level direct
democracy is lacking, on the state level, including Californian government, direct democracy can have
a significant impact on the lives of citizens.
What identifies direct democracy as an important tool and a source of power for citizens is the direct
power they have over legislation and/or politics hence, direct democracy; the citizens do not need
approval and recognition by politicians, nor do they need to be led by them to succeed. The only
ingredient required for success is the support of the masses, which is generally more plausible with an
access to large sums of money. In general, there are three primary methods used in the execution of
direct democracy: referendum, recall, and initiative.
When citizens are unhappy over a piece of legislation that has already been ratified, it can be
petitioned, and if successful, ultimately lead to a popular vote for the law this is what is known as a
referendum. Referendum can come about in two prime ways legislative referendum and popular
referendum. Legislative referendum is where a legislature allows the people to vote on a bill as
opposed to the legislature voting on it, whereas popular referendum is an attempt to

Rights of Indigenous Australians
The law recognizes that specific groups in society are permitted to have specific rights. Individuals in
traditional homelands have the right to determine the application of health, education and welfare
entitlements, free from government regulation and discrimination. However the rights Indigenous
Australians are entitled to are not being completely abided by and therefore white law is being used as
a tool of discrimination to Indigenous Australians.
Before the case of Eddie Mabo, Indigenous Australian s ancestral lands that they were raised on were
claimed for British purposes and benefits. After crossing paths with land rights advocates and legal
minds, Eddie Mabo became of crucial importance to Indigenous Australian land law. Mabo was
looking to seek a retreat from injustice concerning Indigenous Australians right to the land. After a ten
year legal battle, often referred to as the Mabo Case, six out seven High Court Judges ruled that: The
Meriam people are entitled as against the whole world, to possession, occupation, use and enjoyment
of the lands of the Murray Islands . By showing that the Indigenous owned land as individuals and as
families, and had clearly demarcated property boundaries, Mabo s battle for land rights proved
successful. This succession paved the way for fair land rights for Australia s Indigenous people.
The Stronger Futures aims to help the Indigenous persons of remote communities in the Northern

Princess Culture And Gender Stereotypes In Princess Movies
From a young age, princess culture has impacted the lives of numerous people. Some individuals may
have spent their childhood in the attire of their favorite Disney princess while they put on their best
rendition of the character they admired most. Other children went seemingly unfazed by the
phenomenon, as their peers remained spellbound by the magical world of princesses. With Disney s
debut of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, princess movies provided the defining factor of the
Disney entertainment empire for years to come. From this, fairy tales embarked into a territory that
would touch the lives of many in a new way. However, since princess culture has considerably grown,
opponents, such as Monika Bartyzel, question if princess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing so, Disney princess culture increases gender roles and affects how young girls view
themselves.
Bartyzel s wide array of evidence to support her claim that princess culture narrowly defines what
femininity means to young consumers makes her argument compelling. She used Disney s unfitting
princess makeover of the character Merida from Brave who desperately fought against princess ideals
in the movie as an example of how Disney has a habit of backtracking their own progress. Bartyzel
also provided accounts from mothers who support her claim by expressing that their daughters
behavior had been shaped by princess culture. Additionally, Disney routinely overshadows the
darkness of traditional fairy tales with overly idealistic narratives and has a history of depicting
harmful racial stereotypes, problematic female characterizations, and unrealistic storylines (Bartyzel,
2015). Bartyzel examined these stereotypes and problematic characterizations with the design
alterations made to Disney princesses; specifically, princesses of color. Finally, Bartyzel reinforced her
argument by conveying that women are diverse and to overlook these differences affects how young
girls view themselves. Bartyzel s professional presentation, the various forms of evidence, her counter
arguments, and her examination of the different issues tied to princess culture helped convey a strong
argument.
Bartyzel is not the only one who believes that Disney has a

Athletic Trainer Essay
I had a hard time finding a career. All the careers I came across did not interest me at all. Until a friend
came up with the idea of the career of athletic training. That is when I started my research and my
interest grew greater. Athletic trainers help prevent and treat injuries for people of all ages. Athletic
trainers try to prevent injuries by educating people on how to reduce their risk on getting injured.
Another way Athletic trainers use to prevent injuries is by advising people on the proper use of
equipment. The amount of money you make depends on many occasions. Your salary depends on your
employment settings, level of education, and experience. The average salary ranged from $28,495 to

The minimum requirement is a bachelor s degree, but most athletic trainers have a doctoral or master s

related courses, like nutrition, physiology, human anatomy, and biomechanics (Bureau of Labor
Statistics pg 2). A teaching certificate is needed if working in a high school. Athletic trainers have to
have good communication and social skills, as well as being organized, inquisitive, and have a desire
to help people. There are a couple of methods Athletic trainers use to advance in their position. Some
switch teams and sports to receive more responsibility or gain a higher salary. Some sell or go into the
marketing business, using their experience to distribute medical and athletic equipment. Athletic
trainers had about 16,300 jobs in the year 2008. 39 percent were in public and private school,
universities, and colleges. 38 percent work in health care like hospitals, and physician offices. 13
percent worked in fitness and sport centers like gyms and YMCA clubs. 5 percent of Athletic trainers

Cause Of Workplace Violence
Literature Review
Causes of workplace violence in united state
There are three main causes of workplace violence so far experience in United State, these include;
workplace factors, personal factors, and person situation interactions.
Workplace factors
Attempt to predict violence in a place of work previously have focused almost on personal factors in
line with social learning theory. Marital violence is associated with work stress in totality. Again
feeling of job insecurity, use of electronic surveillance and employees perceived workplace justice are
the three main workplace factors that may be considered important in foreseeing workplace violence
Workers perception of fairness is reflected in the structural justice, procedures and policies as well as
the organizational outcomes. Generally, workers involved in efforts to reinstate their sense of justice
when they perceived an injustice in the factory. Violence may be a predictable outcome, by extension
that the workers alleged to be exposed at work, whether in terms of physical danger.
Furthermore, various occupational murders have been linked to employees who have been approved
over for elevations or indicted and certain that the process used was unfair, also some of the events
that precipitate the unfairness in the work place have been connected to poor administration measures,
coercion, and unreliable corrective measures. Even though it is not the only contributing reason,
occupational violence can also be caused by perceptions of technical prejudice.
Personal Factor
Personal factors that contribute to work place violence includes alcohol abuse, past history of
aggression, and lack of self esteem.
Destructive conduct across a diversity of settings such as violence at the family level that has been
connected with the unnecessary use of alcohol. From a wide viewpoint of emotional alignment, excess
use of alcohol will increase workplace violence since it increases the chance of the situation being
misjudged and lowers mental and oral operational.
Secondly apart from alcohol abuse, there are reasons why a person s past history of aggression might
trigger workplace violence, because aggression is a very stable behavior. The recent use of aggression
has

Observation of a Hallway Essay
The building labeled B appears to be the main building for courses at Local Community College.
Students walk in and out of the building all day and stop only to enter a classroom or buy food from
the vending machines which fill one corner of the building s long hallway. Often, students sit on the
chairs that line the walls while waiting for a class to start, but for now the hallway is nearly empty and
waiting for the ambush of students.
Outside the classroom, a number plaque reading one hundred and seventy is sitting on the wall framed
in blue. Another door nearby opens and the wind rustles the papers of the notebook that sits on a chair.

the edges are lined by a molding the color of sand. Across from a classroom door, a fire extinguisher
rests in its case concealed by dark glass. A young man also sits across from the door. He has dark hair
about two inches long, and has it styled in casual disarray. His facial features are well formed, having
a strong line about his jaw and thick eyebrows. His eyes are the color of the sky before a storm. His
body is well proportioned and his clothes are made of designer quality. Other students walk by, but he
does not look up and, even when addressed. He simply nods or speaks quietly and seems to be
engrossed in the study of his book.
The air is filled with a sweet aroma as another female student walks by. The perfume is strong and
people choke and turn their heads when she walks past them. The sound of noisy flip flops coming
down the hallway alerts the boy and he rises to greet his friend. When standing, he is about six feet tall
and seems to be well muscled. His friend was of much the same description, only the friend is slightly
less muscled and his eyes are the color of the sky on a clear day. Girls leaning against the walls and
sitting in the chairs in the hallway, stare at the two young men exiting the building in which they wait.

are about 7.2 billion people in the world, so the hungry population accounts for 12.7% of the
population. The time has come to change these statistics. It is the 21st century and we, as humans,
now have the technology and resources to reverse these terrible numbers. There are two arguments on
what we should do with this new technology, however. One side, researched by a science policy

Next, the authors write about how food has been modified throughout the years. They use the example
of cultivated rice, wheat, corn, soy, potatoes, and tomatoes have very little in common with their
ancestors. They use this example to go on to reveal that genetically modifying foods is nothing more
than hybridization, or the mating of different plants of the same species to integrate the desired traits
from several different varieties into a leading variety. The authors use the example of the tomato and
how it is commonly bred with wild tomatoes to make the plant more resistant to pathogens,
nematodes, and fungi while eradicating any unwanted traits from the wild plant such as toxins. This
example, as a whole is a brilliant use of ethos. It displays that genetically modified foods are healthy
and safe because it compares this new technology to a technique that has been done for thousands of
years that has never been thought of as dangerous. More importantly, this comparison shows that the
authors are credible and that they use their evidence wisely and correctly. Biotechnology is not just a
new fad. Prakash and Conko stated, And a review of 81 separate research projects conducted over 15
years all funded by the European Union found that bioengineered crops and foods are at least as safe
for the environment and for human consumption as conventional crops, and in some cases even safer.

Women s Pain Perception in Childbirth
This is a study that focused on eighty three women and examined the effects of cultural and
educational influences on the pain in childbirth. The eighty three women are divided into Middle
Eastern women and Western women. The women ranged in ages from nineteen to thirty eight. There
were thirty people from the Western group and that consisted of women whose mothers were born in
Europe, the US or another English speaking country. There were fifty three women from the Middle
Eastern Group and that consisted of women whose mothers were born in Asia, North African or

by their level education. Those who had twelve years or less of schooling were in the low education
group. Those women who had more than twelve years of schooling were in the high education group.
In the Western group sixty six percent were in the high education group. While the Middle Eastern
group only had thirty three point nine percent in the high education group. In order to perform this
study they recorded their information they received from the procedure. The four measures were pain

Iago the Machiavellian in Othello
Throughout history, there have been many human beings whom have been seen as either a hero or a
villain. In their childhood, these people must had obstacles that were in their way, causing each
individual to either work harder or give up. People, however; must understand that each individual has
a potential in achieving their goals, but if one is mistreated or deceived due to jealousy, resentment,
hatred, or ambition, it can lead to many catastrophic events. People who have pride and arrogance do
not want to have equals, rather they want to see their victims suffer. These people have no difficulty in

While filling Othello s ears with lies and hatred, Iago says that I know not that: but such a
handkerchief I am sure it was your wife s did I today see Cassio wipe his beard with (Shakespeare,
67). Iago is poisoning Othello s ears by telling him about the ocular proof that Othello was asking for
all along. Furthermore, Iago uses another excellent technique to manipulate Othello by making
remember the past events. Iago says to Othello that, she did deceive her father, marrying you, and
when she seemed to shake, and fear your looks, she loved them most (Shakespeare, 59). Iago is
explaining to Othello that if Desdemona can deceive her father by marrying Othello, she can deceive
him too. Iago also tells Othello that Desdemona fell for his looks because he is an outsider. Iago is
excellent at manipulating the situation and filling others ears with lies, which makes his plan
successful without anyone suspecting him.
Iago s vengeful hatred is responsible for the suffering and in some cases, the tragic deaths of several
innocent characters. Iago cleverly reaches at the final stage of his plan and reaches to a point where he
becomes the cause of deaths of innocent people. Iago continues lying to Othello to break his calmness
resulting in action against Desdemona and Cassio. Othello says to Iago that ay, let her rot and perish,
and be damned tonight, for shall not live! No, my heart is turned to stone: I like it, and it turns my

The internet is the single worldwide computer network that interconnects other computer networks on
which end user services, such as world wide web sites or data archives, are located, enabling data and
other information to be exchanged (Internet, n.d.). This essay will identify and discuss one concern for
users of the internet, which is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is carried out through cell phones,
computers, e mails and any other electronic devices or social media sites. Cyberbullying has the
potential to be devastating to children, adolescents and adults as it is being cruel to others by sending
or posting harmful material or engaging in other forms of social aggression using the internet or other
digital technologies (Morgan, 2013). Firstly, this essay will look at the internet, what it is, when it
came about, what it is used for and the benefits and disadvantages of the internet. Secondly, I will
discuss cyberbullying, what it means, the concern, what is involved, and who is involved. Thirdly, the
effects of cyberbullying, why and how has it become a concern, consequences for those involved, how
bad the problem is, and will it continue to be a growing concern unless something is done. And lastly,
what is being done to address the problem of cyberbullying, what is the government doing about the

Analysis Of The Book Young Goodman Brown Essay

4 October 2016
Humanity is Destined to be Maple
I. Introduction
A. First paragraph of introduction
1. Young Goodman Brown is a dark romantic short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne originally
published in 1835.
2. Set in 17th century New England, Hawthorne utilizes this short story to convey his distaste for the
Salem Witch Trials and his great grandfather, John Hathorne s participation as a judge. In addition, he
demonstrates the Puritan idea that all humans are in a state of corruption until you have experienced a
conversion, only sanctioned by God to become part of the elite .
3. It begins in Salem, Massachusetts when young Goodman Brown leaves his wife, Faith, for an
errand in the forest. It is later revealed that this errand is an attempt to seek a conversion in the forest
with the Devil. While on the journey, he learns some disturbing things about his ancestors that they
too have walked the same walk in the forest with the Devil and not only his ancestors but people of
authority and people in the town. Realizing that Faith and himself are the only two not yet initiated, he
looks to heaven and the hell he was in vanishes, leaving him back in the forest not knowing whether it
was a dream or reality. He returns to Salem the next day with a belief that his Christian village and all
of humanity is perverted and so he died a bitter and distrustful man with no hope.

Corruption Of The National And International Level
Introduction
Corruption is the misuse of public resources and office for private gain. However, this definition does
not exclude the misuse of resources in corporate and private corporations. Generally, corruption is
perceived to be more widespread in certain countries than others. In particular, the evil of corruption is
widely practiced in developing countries. The most important consideration is to understand why this
is the usual trend in corruption across the globe. In a general perspective, different theories have tried
to associate this trend in corruption with specific cultural and historical traditions, political
institutions, levels of economic development, as well as government policies. However, there is more
to consider in this argument since corruption is also prominent in countries with histories of British
rule, protestant traditions, and less economic development.
During the past three decades, there has been a remarkable expansion in the people s ability to
measure the level of corruption. As a result, this has led to the development of ell identified,
microeconomic of corruption at the national and international level. This essay focused on reviewing
causes of corruption in developing countries in light with these recent advancements. Reviews of less
developed countries have revealed that corruption responds to the standard theory of economic
incentive. Furthermore, there is robust evidence that the effect of anticorruption strategies in these

Compare And Contrast Vladimir And Thomas Aquinas
In the Middle Ages, or the Medieval Period, religion had a very influential role in government,
economic activity, and the life of the people. When examining the achievements and expertise of
Thomas Aquinas and Prince Vladimir, also known as Vladimir the Great or Vladimir I, many
comparisons can be made. Their achievements are similar in that they both helped to spread a
particular sect of Christianity and that they both had to struggle in order to become well known. Their
expertise is different in that Thomas Aquinas studied religion for many years before choosing one
while Prince Vladimir just picked the one that seemed easiest for his country to follow. Prince

Why the World isn t flat
Though the volume of globalization is in increasing pace, the value to globalization hasn t been
recorded high. If we look at the data, countries trade is mostly bilateral with the nearby country. The
geography and distance among countries still matter when it comes to international trade.
If we talk about the outsourcing of work, only the standardized work that is principle based such as
accounting, data management, coding, etc. can be transferred to other geographic location because of
cost advantage, location advantage, and productivity there. The disruptive and innovative ideas are
worked in a team having brilliant talent which can t be outsourced. One such example is of Sweden,
which stands 7th in world top innovators index and ranks 3rd in terms of patent filing among 183
countries in the list. It is because of the excellent education system (ranking 12th among 183
countries) and high level of technological adoption and ITC usage (ranking 11th and 4th respectively).
Practicing such disruption with the people from other countries takes a lot of time and

Anatomy And Physiology Of The Heart
ALTERED HEMODYNAMICS Hemodynamics is the study of blood flow and circulation throughout
the body. A muscle known as the heart is a major organ that circulates blood through the human body
by veins and arteries known as the circulatory system. During the pumping action it carries
deoxygenated blood through the veins to the lungs where oxygenation takes place and is then
circulated through the arteries back to the heart.
Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart
The heart is located in the thoracic cavity of the chest in the middle of the lungs and beneath the
sternum. At the base, or top of the heart, is the aorta, pulmonary arteries, and superior vena cava. It
forms a tip called the apex or the bottom and rests on top of the diaphragm and points to the left side
of the body. The area around the heart is called the pericardia cavity. It is made up of a fluid filled area
known as the pericardium, this protects the muscle from friction that could be obtained from the
surrounding organs when it contracts. The heart wall has three layers; the epicardium, myocardium,
and endocardium. The epicardium is the outer most layer known as the visceral layer of the
pericardium. Beneath the epicardium is the myocardium. The myocardium is the thick muscular layer
that contains cardiac muscle tissue, which causes the heart to pump. The inside of the heart is the
endocardium. It is an endothelium layer that causes the inside of the heart to be smooth to prevent
blood from sticking to the walls of

A Comparison of Two Accounts of Life After Death Essay
A Comparison of Two Accounts of Life After Death Materialism is the view that the body and mind
are inseparable, and for there to be life after death then the body must be resurrected, this is much like
the Christian view of life after death.
John Hick was a materialist and he argued that, in certain circumstances, it would be possible that the
dead could exist as themselves after death, if an exact replica were to appear. Hick uses thought
experiments to show the person who dies in this World is the same person who is resurrected in the
next. He uses examples of using a character called John Smith. If John smith were to ... Show more

This view is supported by Aquinas. According to Aquinas the soul operates independently of the body,
and only things that are divisible are open to decay. The Soul is not divisible, unlike the body and will
therefore decay and die whilst the soul lives on. This view of the Soul been separate to the body was
accepted by Descartes too. Descartes said that it was conceivable for us to survive without our bodies
because our identity comes from our soul and it s ability to think and reason. He rejected the idea that
we need our bodies to live an intellectually aware and active life. In my personal view both of these
theories have major flaws. John Hick is merely hypothesizing with notion that an exact replica of John
Smith will simply re appear in India. He uses it as a means to reach his end, through illogical
reasoning.
The Dualist view of life after death also has its flaws. The idea of the body having no characteristics
unless it has a soul is absurd. The appearance of the body is a characteristic which isn t determined but
the Soul. I do feel that the Materialist view is the stronger. Even though it does relay on slightly
flawed logic. Even though this view is very much like the Christian view there are some major
contradictions between the replica theory and part of Luke s gospel.

When it comes to conflicts and negotiations I have always been the type of person to avoid them. The
reasons I avoided them was because I did not know how to handle these situations properly. When it

conflicts or I would get really mad. Those two options were not good for me or good for the people I

ideas and concerns got pushed aside all the time. I would eventually go into my avoiding style and just
stop talking or give up on the topic. I d get angry because I felt like I wasn t being heard. I had even

John Winthrop Model
In 1630, the Arbella carried Puritans from England toward the colonies. Once they had arrived, John
Winthrop took responsibility to teach the passengers the principles of a model society so the future
generations could live well. By following these principles, the community was going to be able to
survive by working together in order to ensure that the community would last. Although America
started with John Winthrop s idea of a model society, this nation is no longer the community that was
envisioned then because the bond between people has been broken by the racism and the selfishness
of most Americans.

John Winthrop teaches the ones from the Arbella that they must keep their neighbor in mind when
saving extra. Today, most of the citizens work hard just so their family can have enough to be able to
put food on the table. Providing for their neighbor is the last thing in their minds. Some people can
barely provide for themselves let alone an entire family. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,
the average consumer yearly expenditures was approximately $55, 978 in 2015. From $55,978, around
$29,000 come from housing and shelter. Food adds relatively $7,000, and transportation, education,
and healthcare add around $14,000 ( Consumer ). With all the expenses, the family does not have
enough to spend what is left on the ones surrounding them, so how can America help each other when
in need when they can barely help themselves? Families will prefer to fool themselves into believing
that no one needs anything just so they do not have to give from what they have, and when they do
happen to save extra, they do not plan on saving for when their neighbor needs it, they plan to save it
for when they need it. They may even save it so in the future they can splurge on an expensive item
that will please the family, something they do not necessarily need. The people do

Abstract
This experiment tests how Armadillidium vulgare (wood lice) use their subcutaneous touch,
thermoreceptors and chemoreceptors on their antennae and limbs to sense any airborne or surface
chemicals. In this experiment, ten wood lice were placed in a choice chamber which has two
chambers; each chamber contained one piece of circular paper to cover the circumference of the
chamber. Each paper consisted of one of two different variants of NaCl water, the left side contained
0.9% and the right side contained 10%. The goal of this experiment was to test which solution

An alternative hypothesis was them formed which was that the woodlouse would prefer to migrate to
the 0.9% NaCl solution rather than the 10% solution. This was stated because the woodlouse live in a
moist environment thus meaning the water is fresh water rather than containing much salt. After the
results were calculated, the null hypothesis was rejected because the woodlouse favored the solution
with the least amount of salt (NaCl) which was the 0.9% side. This proved that the woodlouse
preferred a more fresh water environment. A question was then raised as to why some of the
woodlouse still decided to travel to the 10% NaCl water? This experiment could have been more
improved if the choice chamber contained the woodlouse s natural habitat which would to be to insert
grass and dirt into the choice chamber. This would have improved the experiment because it allows
the woodlouse to recognize a familiar environment rather than just travelling to a piece of paper with
different concentration of NaCl water on

Brief Therapy Essay
Brief therapy helps people by focusing on solutions, instead of problems. The therapist asks questions
thereby facilitates the client by helping formulates solutions. The client leads the meeting by actively
formulating ideas in which he/she can serve to improve the client s negative circumstances. This is
contrary to cognitive therapy, which focuses on a client s cognitive processes (how he or she thinks
about people/places/things). The therapist collaborates with the client to help the client develop
alternative solutions.

Changing the mind, leading the client to solutions through specific questioning techniques will allow

Furthermore, Selekman believed there are assumptions that benefit those who deal with resistant
adolescents and their families. The assumptions are extremely practical and provide therapists a new
lens for viewing the tough adolescent case. Each of the guiding assumptions provides a wellness
perspective on adolescent problems, families, and brief therapy. Matching our treatment to the state of
change will foster a cooperative relationship. Therapists must specify the level of the change. That is
the key to adolescent resistance. Next positive relabeling can describe a withdrawn adolescent as a
thoughtful teenager (2005, p. 32).
Successively, Selekman explains that fostering therapist client cooperation is purposive use of self
disclosure, the use of humor, normalizing, demonstrating cultural and gender sensitivity, and
therapeutic compliments. Mark Twain once said, Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.
Humor can help generate a relaxed atmosphere, influence the client from his or her concerns, and heal
those in pain. Madanes (1984) contend that what makes change possible is the therapist s ability to be
confident and to see what is funny or desirable in a dire situation . Laughter releases hormones from

How Elie Was Saved By American Soldiers
The covenant Elie and his father shared throughout this story was something special. Much like God
and Abrahams covenant, Elie and his father vowed to keep each other safe even when that meant
putting their lives on the line for each other. Elie did everything in his power to keep his father alive as
long as he could. Some of the prisoners viewed all this ongoing struggle as a sort of a test. Many kept
preaching that this was a test given by God that they had to go through in order to make it to heaven,
much like the tests God put Abraham through. Meaning that there will be specific tasks that will have
to endure that they might not seem fitting during life in order to ensure that they will go to heaven. In
the end, Elie was saved by American soldiers. He was extremely grateful for this because he might not
have made it much longer. There were specific times in the book where it was obvious to see that Elie
had wanted to give up and die on this journey. Elie showed us how strong he was mentally to be able
to endure what he did and still come out with faith in God. One of the greatest traits about this book is
the endless connections one can make through the experiences Elie went through.
Some may argue that Elie lost his faith in God throughout his journey. I believe that in the end why he
did not lose his faith was because he made it out alive. His dad was one of the reasons why Elie made
it. Elie felt like he owed it to his dad to make it home and try and find his sister

Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria
In the world of medical science, there are gray areas that blur subtly into the world of fiction. When
medical anomalies came up throughout history, the world had come to its own conclusions about what
was wrong before medical science could determine the true causes. This, in turn, has led to some
interesting connections between fictional ideas and medical cases that are very real. One of these such
disorders is called porphyria, and it heavily influenced the way vampires were perceived in both
literature and early movies. Porphyria, specifically Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria, is a rare
hereditary blood disorder. The likelihood that this disorder will be present is less than one in a million,

They represent the human desire for longevity and immortality, and even in fiction they remain a
curiosity to medical science everywhere (Hallab 168). Although the sufferers of congenital
erythropoietic porphyria are certainly not immortal, they have had a drastic impact on the idea and
manifestation of vampires themselves. The sensitivity and erratic behavior around sunlight, the pale
skin tone due to anemia, and the occasional desire for blood are all present side effects of both
sufferers of porphyria and classic vampires. Both in literature and in early films starring vampires, the
audience is captured by the exacerbated ailments that affect the vampire, such as turning to dust upon
entering sunlight, and flesh literally searing at the touch of garlic. These dramatizations taken on by
Dracula were not just borrowed from porphyria, however. Sightings of actual vampires were seen
throughout the 1700 s in places like Transylvania, where the concentration of those suffering from
porphyria was already higher than anywhere else (Hallab 169). Upon the seizing and murder of these
apparent vampires, doctors swore that they were dealing with a vampire. Further, the sufferers of
porphyria who began to experience symptoms could have easily mistaken a blister or lesion for a
vampire bite. The vampires in literature and movies, therefore, had not only been given the symptoms
of porphyria, but they were truly a dramatic portrayal of someone suffering from porphyria,
specifically congenital erythropoietic

When the demonic somnambulist Cesare creeps into Lil Dagover s bedchamber, director Robert
Wiene was exploiting a fear common to us all. Prone and sleeping the woman is uttlerly helpless. She

Used expressionism, films that explored dream, nightmare and psyche and that found their narrative
shape determined less by action than emotion. Used angular sets and heavy shadows to develop a

Lemuel Gulliver, is the narrator and protagonist who goes on four adventurous voyages. He is a

Buffett Rule Research Paper
The Buffett Rule
Introduction
The American economy has been growing at a slower rate in recent years than seen in the past. This
slow growth has caused the wages of American workers to stagnate. Despite the promise of the
American Dream, the distribution of income in the United States is less equal than that of most
countries. Many Americans now believe that the tax system may be the cause of this inequality, or at
least a possible solution to reducing inequality.
Efficiency vs. Equity The tradeoff between the values of efficiency and equity is often found in
government intervention. In theory, unbridled capitalism free from market intervention would result in
the most efficient outcome. However, sometimes the most efficient result is not the best result. As
Warren Buffett recently said, the market system works, but it doesn t work for everybody. It works in
the aggregate. The progressive income tax system in the United States is intended to result in the rich
having a higher effective tax rate than the lower and middle classes. This higher taxation on the rich

own money than the federal government does. Others believe that the rule would cause the after tax

investment. However, Warren Buffett states that he has yet to see anyone not even when capital gains

Women s Impact On Women During The Sun s Never Leave...
Throughout time, women have endured many things. In Never Leave Yourself by Eileen P. Anderson
Fye and Reinterpreting the Labor Mobility of Rural Young Women in post Mao China by Yan
Hairong, women have had to change during times of modernity; different ideas have become salient in
the minds of these women due to the forces of modernity and globalization. An idea or sense of
liberation is apparent in both of these articles. Belizean women have managed to succeed on what they
perceive as liberation; however, rural young women in China have made failed attempts to do so.
Despite this, it does not change the fact that women want to be freed from the oppression they get in
the patriarchal society they live in. Globalization can have a crucial effect on the way things work in
countries which would initiate a way for modernity to pass through and culturally transform a people s
way of thinking or living. Specifically, in the cases of rural young women in China or Belizean
women in San Andres, it has had the most impact on them.
Belizean women and rural young women in China have all been affected by the forces of modernity.
Never Leave Yourself has become a term that has been embedded in a Belizean women way of life.
Generally, the idea of never leaving yourself relates to sticking up, taking care of, and doing what is
healthy for themselves. In most cases, this term usually comes up when women must not leave oneself
when they are being physically, mentally, or sexually

. The following tips are helpful for men who are keeping their hair short.
If you re looking for a low maintenance, short hairstyle, consider a military style buzz cut. While this
is associated with the military, many men in all walks of life are choosing this look. This is a simple
style to create and maintain. You don t have to go to a fancy or expensive hair stylist for a crew cut.
You can go to any old fashioned barber to get this hairstyle for a reasonable price. And because there s
not much hair to style, you won t need to think about styling it. Of course, some men look better with
such very short styles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radical hairstyles, like a Mohawk, are not a good idea if you work in a bank or for an insurance
company, for example, even if you fantasize about being a rock star. If there s no reason you need a
conservative look, though, feel free to try something a little more daring. You can look at pictures of
different hairstyles and try to imagine how they d look on you. Make sure the style you choose is one
you ll be comfortable with and that fits with your lifestyle. The Caesar cut is also a popular short style
among men. While not every man with this cut refers to it by that name, this is a short style that is
similar to how Julius Caesar is depicted in statues. If you want to know what this looks like, look at
pictures or movies of George Clooney in the 1990s, as this is the style he favored back then. The
Caesar cut is a simple style because the hair is short and even all over the head. This style may be very

Analysis Of No Country For Old Men And Stagecoach
The question is whether No Country for Old Men and Stagecoach provide adequate examples of the
decline in American moral values. From my perspective of today s world and my interpretation of No
Country for Old Men and Stagecoach, I can see how the argument could be made that they have
declined or haven t changed at all. I see a difference between the relationship of Ringo and Dallas vs
other members of their traveling group compared to Sheriff Bell vs Chigurh. These relationships, in
my opinion, explains a lot about the development of moral values, or lack of, in the western United
States. In this paper, I will describe the moral values that are represented in each movie and I will also
try to describe my understanding of why American moral values may have declined between No
Country for Old Men and Stagecoach. Beginning with Ringo, his entire character is based on the a
morally gray area. He escapes jail for a crime he hasn t committed, in order to get revenge for the
murder of his father and brother. Is this the right thing to do? Should Ringo get revenge by killing the
people that murdered his family? To me this is a attempt to gain equality. To drag the Plummer s
brothers down to his level. From my interpretation, he feels his life or wellbeing is lowered because
his removal from society because he s was in jail and later on the run from the law. And again, from
my interpretation, he views his path to redemption as a way to lessen the lives and wellbeing of the

The Patriot Act Suppresses Criticism of the Government...
The most valuable aspects of individualism is the freedom to speak and to express are feelings that is
what makes us human, as President Robert F. Kennedy stated in his Day of Affirmation Address that
...the first element of this individual liberty is the freedom of speech: the right to express and
communicate ideas, to set oneself apart from the dumb beasts of field and forest... My family came to
the U.S. because of the promises of freedom. When we were in India we could not speak ill of the
politics that were corrupt because if we did there would be chaos and riots. As we came to America we
found that we did not have to look constantly behind are backs when we criticized the government
until the Patriot Act was put into place but now we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The checks and balance was created as a system of the constitution and is in place so that no part of
the government is too powerful. The judicial system should be able say if a warrant should be allowed
for any situation. These are the systems that were built in order to protect the United States citizens.
The patriotic act may have been created so that international terrorists operating on American soil can
be found and prosecuted but does that mean taking away the rights of American citizens? Many
citizens have come from countries where there is no freedom; they believed that the United States was
the only place where they could talk freely so they came. America can not put distrust in to the hearts
of those citizens by taking away the freedom to speak our minds. The Patriot Act violates our first
amendment rights that protected our free speech and expression. It also violates the fourth amendment
which protects citizens from unwarranted searches and seizures. Some people say that they do not
mind the Patriot Act because they don t have anything to hide, but this kind of thinking is inconsistent.
When you know that you are being recorded you would feel uncomfortable expressing your feelings
and your free speech that the first amendment was created for (Justice). Americans are eroding our
civil rights and are actually helping the terrorists by crippling our democratic values to achieve their
mission. Another reason that the not caring about the

Ecstasy Research Papers
A General Overview of Ecstasy 3,4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, better known by its street
name, ecstasy or molly, is a type of illegal, synthetic drug that is typically found in the form of pills,
tablets, or a capsule. It is slowly becoming one of the most popular recreational drugs worldwide.
Among the ages ranging from 18 to 25, about 25 percent of them have admitted they have used the
drug at least once in their lifetime (Lesley, W. R. et al., 2007). These drugs are typically used at
nightclubs and raves, but recently, due to its popularity, it can be more commonly found in homes for
private usage as well. Ecstasy was extremely common during the 1980s and 1990s due to the rave
counterculture that was introduced (Lesley, W. R. et al., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1980s 1900s, it was considered a safe drug since it was said to create relaxation, emotional
openness, intimacy, and empathy (Duterte, M. et al, 2009). Despite this, long time usage can create
more negative outcomes than positive. Over time its positive effects have been proven wrong, and
many negative psychological effects on the human mind and body have emerged. For example,
abusers may experience memory loss, depression, anxiety, and impaired decision making (Brecht
Christina, 2002) Initial Effects Depending on the type of pill and amount taken, about 40 to 60
minutes after the ecstasy tablet is consumed, users will start feeling the immediate effects of ecstasy.
The effects slowly build up, but once it kicks in it is described as a rush and wave of emotions. After
about two hours of consumption, users will fall from the high of ecstasy (Brecht Christina, 2002).
During the build up phase once ecstasy is consumed, users will have heightened senses and will
become extremely emotional and aware of their surroundings. As time goes on and the peak hits, users
will experience an immense desire of empathy towards one another and will have the urge to engage

  • 2. Antagonism Between Ja And Cytokinin Antagonism between JA and cytokinin is of common occurrence in various plant growth and developmental processes. Cytokinin, benzyladenine (BA) has been reported to antagonize the effect of JA on root growth promotion in Solanum tuberosum (Sarkar et al., 2006). In cotyledons of sunflower (Helianthus annuus), MeJA promoted senescence, whereas pretreatment with cytokinin partially blocked MeJA induced senescence (Mukherjee et al., 2002). Liu et al. (2015) concluded that exogenous applications of JA and cytokinin antagonistically regulated leaf senescence in O. sativa senescence associated genes expression. They also proposed that leaf senescence not only depends on the level of JA or cytokinin but also on the balance between JA and cytokinin (Liu et al., 2015). Earlier, Ananieva and Ananiev (2003) argued that MeJA promoted some aspects of senescence in intact Cucurbita pepo cotyledons partially due to down regulation of endogenous levels of cytokinine levels and interconversion between active and inactive forms of cytokines (Ananieva and Ananiev, 2003). Apart from the above reports, antagonistic effect of cytokinins on the stimulatory effect of JAs has also been observed in potato tuber formation under in vitro conditions (Sarkar et al., 2006). A synergistic effect of JA and cytokinin has also been reported in T. aestivum to alleviate effects of salinity stress. 5.4. • 3. Viking Impact On Northern England The term Viking is essentially defined as a person who lurks in a vik or bay. The name Viking was given to those of a Scandinavian race, who became known for their raids and settlements of Europe between the years of 700 and 1100. Stereotypically, Vikings are habitually referred to or regarded as barbarians, heathens and savage north men with no concept of Christian integrity, they were considered as lacking reputable mannerisms and their presence in England was that of a punishment by the Lord himself. In this essay I will be exploring the Vikings impact on the history and identity of Northern England. It is significant to note that the modern perception of what is Northern England differs to that of the Northern England during the era of Scandinavian raids, and that the amount of evidence available is primarily of English origin. • 4. Effect Of The Business Cycle Essay This study uses time series data from the CPS March data to investigate the effect of the business cycle from 2003 to 2014 on the wage differentials between females and males. The CPS is a monthly sample survey of approximately 60,000 households conducted by the Census Bureau for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which can be considered as the primary source of labor force statistics for the population of the United States. This study also uses data from the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) to get the state unemployment rate from 2003 to 2014. LAUS is a Federal State cooperative effort that publishes monthly estimates of employment and unemployment for approximately 7,300 areas, including all states, countries, metropolitan areas, and cities with a population of 25,000 or more, by residence. Labor force data from the LAUS program follows the same CPS concepts and definitions used for the national labor force data. In particular, this study uses the seasonal adjustment monthly state unemployment rate, which eliminates the influences of weather, holidays, the opening and closing of schools, and other recurring seasonal events from economic time series. Since the CPS collects data through interviewing a limited amount of people, it cannot fully represent the labor market of the United States because of the sample selection bias. Also, since the CPS data is gathered by interviews, the status of survey respondents is only determined by how they respond to the survey. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Direct Democracy As citizens of the United States, Americans have the responsibility of understanding their abilities in regards to contribution to political decisions. Especially in recent years, Americans have come to realize the true significance of direct democracy or a lack thereof. Although on a federal level direct democracy is lacking, on the state level, including Californian government, direct democracy can have a significant impact on the lives of citizens. What identifies direct democracy as an important tool and a source of power for citizens is the direct power they have over legislation and/or politics hence, direct democracy; the citizens do not need approval and recognition by politicians, nor do they need to be led by them to succeed. The only ingredient required for success is the support of the masses, which is generally more plausible with an access to large sums of money. In general, there are three primary methods used in the execution of direct democracy: referendum, recall, and initiative. When citizens are unhappy over a piece of legislation that has already been ratified, it can be petitioned, and if successful, ultimately lead to a popular vote for the law this is what is known as a referendum. Referendum can come about in two prime ways legislative referendum and popular referendum. Legislative referendum is where a legislature allows the people to vote on a bill as opposed to the legislature voting on it, whereas popular referendum is an attempt to ... • 6. Rights of Indigenous Australians The law recognizes that specific groups in society are permitted to have specific rights. Individuals in traditional homelands have the right to determine the application of health, education and welfare entitlements, free from government regulation and discrimination. However the rights Indigenous Australians are entitled to are not being completely abided by and therefore white law is being used as a tool of discrimination to Indigenous Australians. Before the case of Eddie Mabo, Indigenous Australian s ancestral lands that they were raised on were claimed for British purposes and benefits. After crossing paths with land rights advocates and legal minds, Eddie Mabo became of crucial importance to Indigenous Australian land law. Mabo was looking to seek a retreat from injustice concerning Indigenous Australians right to the land. After a ten year legal battle, often referred to as the Mabo Case, six out seven High Court Judges ruled that: The Meriam people are entitled as against the whole world, to possession, occupation, use and enjoyment of the lands of the Murray Islands . By showing that the Indigenous owned land as individuals and as families, and had clearly demarcated property boundaries, Mabo s battle for land rights proved successful. Some individuals may have spent their childhood in the attire of their favorite Disney princess while they put on their best rendition of the character they admired most. Other children went seemingly unfazed by the phenomenon, as their peers remained spellbound by the magical world of princesses. With Disney s debut of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, princess movies provided the defining factor of the Disney entertainment empire for years to come. From this, fairy tales embarked into a territory that would touch the lives of many in a new way. By doing so, Disney princess culture increases gender roles and affects how young girls view themselves. Bartyzel s wide array of evidence to support her claim that princess culture narrowly defines what femininity means to young consumers makes her argument compelling. She used Disney s unfitting princess makeover of the character Merida from Brave who desperately fought against princess ideals in the movie as an example of how Disney has a habit of backtracking their own progress. Bartyzel also provided accounts from mothers who support her claim by expressing that their daughters behavior had been shaped by princess culture. Additionally, Disney routinely overshadows the darkness of traditional fairy tales with overly idealistic narratives and has a history of depicting harmful racial stereotypes, problematic female characterizations, and unrealistic storylines (Bartyzel, 2015). Bartyzel examined these stereotypes and problematic characterizations with the design alterations made to Disney princesses; specifically, princesses of color. Finally, Bartyzel reinforced her argument by conveying that women are diverse and to overlook these differences affects how young girls view themselves. Bartyzel s professional presentation, the various forms of evidence, her counter arguments, and her examination of the different issues tied to princess culture helped convey a strong argument. Young Goodman Brown is a dark romantic short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne originally published in 1835. 2. Set in 17th century New England, Hawthorne utilizes this short story to convey his distaste for the Salem Witch Trials and his great grandfather, John Hathorne s participation as a judge. A muscle known as the heart is a major organ that circulates blood through the human body by veins and arteries known as the circulatory system. During the pumping action it carries deoxygenated blood through the veins to the lungs where oxygenation takes place and is then circulated through the arteries back to the heart. Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart The heart is located in the thoracic cavity of the chest in the middle of the lungs and beneath the sternum. At the base, or top of the heart, is the aorta, pulmonary arteries, and superior vena cava. It forms a tip called the apex or the bottom and rests on top of the diaphragm and points to the left side of the body. The area around the heart is called the pericardia cavity. A Comparison of Two Accounts of Life After Death Essay A Comparison of Two Accounts of Life After Death Materialism is the view that the body and mind are inseparable, and for there to be life after death then the body must be resurrected, this is much like the Christian view of life after death. John Hick was a materialist and he argued that, in certain circumstances, it would be possible that the dead could exist as themselves after death, if an exact replica were to appear. According to Aquinas the soul operates independently of the body, and only things that are divisible are open to decay. The Soul is not divisible, unlike the body and will therefore decay and die whilst the soul lives on. This view of the Soul been separate to the body was accepted by Descartes too. Descartes said that it was conceivable for us to survive without our bodies because our identity comes from our soul and it s ability to think and reason. He rejected the idea that we need our bodies to live an intellectually aware and active life. In my personal view both of these theories have major flaws. John Hick is merely hypothesizing with notion that an exact replica of John Smith will simply re appear in India. He uses it as a means to reach his end, through illogical reasoning. The Dualist view of life after death also has its flaws. The idea of the body having no characteristics unless it has a soul is absurd. The appearance of the body is a characteristic which isn t determined but the Soul. I do feel that the Materialist view is the stronger. Even though it does relay on slightly flawed logic. Once they had arrived, John Winthrop took responsibility to teach the passengers the principles of a model society so the future generations could live well. By following these principles, the community was going to be able to survive by working together in order to ensure that the community would last. Although America started with John Winthrop s idea of a model society, this nation is no longer the community that was envisioned then because the bond between people has been broken by the racism and the selfishness of most Americans. John Winthrop teaches the ones from the Arbella that they must keep their neighbor in mind when saving extra. Today, most of the citizens work hard just so their family can have enough to be able to put food on the table. Providing for their neighbor is the last thing in their minds. Some people can barely provide for themselves let alone an entire family. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average consumer yearly expenditures was approximately $55, 978 in 2015. From $55,978, around $29,000 come from housing and shelter. Food adds relatively $7,000, and transportation, education, and healthcare add around $14,000 ( Consumer ). With all the expenses, the family does not have enough to spend what is left on the ones surrounding them, so how can America help each other when in need when they can barely help themselves? Families will prefer to fool themselves into believing that no one needs anything just so they do not have to give from what they have, and when they do happen to save extra, they do not plan on saving for when their neighbor needs it, they plan to save it for when they need it. They may even save it so in the future they can splurge on an expensive item that will please the family, something they do not necessarily need. The people do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this experiment, ten wood lice were placed in a choice chamber which has two chambers; each chamber contained one piece of circular paper to cover the circumference of the chamber. An alternative hypothesis was them formed which was that the woodlouse would prefer to migrate to the 0.9% NaCl solution rather than the 10% solution. After the results were calculated, the null hypothesis was rejected because the woodlouse favored the solution with the least amount of salt (NaCl) which was the 0.9% side. This proved that the woodlouse preferred a more fresh water environment. A question was then raised as to why some of the woodlouse still decided to travel to the 10% NaCl water? This experiment could have been more improved if the choice chamber contained the woodlouse s natural habitat which would to be to insert grass and dirt into the choice chamber. Much like God and Abrahams covenant, Elie and his father vowed to keep each other safe even when that meant putting their lives on the line for each other. Elie did everything in his power to keep his father alive as long as he could. Some of the prisoners viewed all this ongoing struggle as a sort of a test. Many kept preaching that this was a test given by God that they had to go through in order to make it to heaven, much like the tests God put Abraham through. Meaning that there will be specific tasks that will have to endure that they might not seem fitting during life in order to ensure that they will go to heaven. In the end, Elie was saved by American soldiers. He was extremely grateful for this because he might not have made it much longer. There were specific times in the book where it was obvious to see that Elie had wanted to give up and die on this journey. Elie showed us how strong he was mentally to be able to endure what he did and still come out with faith in God. One of the greatest traits about this book is the endless connections one can make through the experiences Elie went through. Some may argue that Elie lost his faith in God throughout his journey. Although the sufferers of congenital erythropoietic porphyria are certainly not immortal, they have had a drastic impact on the idea and manifestation of vampires themselves. The sensitivity and erratic behavior around sunlight, the pale skin tone due to anemia, and the occasional desire for blood are all present side effects of both sufferers of porphyria and classic vampires. Both in literature and in early films starring vampires, the audience is captured by the exacerbated ailments that affect the vampire, such as turning to dust upon entering sunlight, and flesh literally searing at the touch of garlic. These dramatizations taken on by Dracula were not just borrowed from porphyria, however. Sightings of actual vampires were seen throughout the 1700 s in places like Transylvania, where the concentration of those suffering from porphyria was already higher than anywhere else (Hallab 169). Upon the seizing and murder of these apparent vampires, doctors swore that they were dealing with a vampire.
