Allies To The NAACP
The NAACP has a number of allies, and also opponents. Some examples of allies would include the
Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), the National Organization for
Women (NOW), and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, because they each represent minority
factions of society that have traditionally faced discrimination ( Types of Interest Groups ). Other
allied groups would be the American Civil Liberties Union and other liberal organizations that are
dedicated to equality under the law. Some public interest groups may also be allies to the NAACP, as
improved societal equality aids the common good of the people. Working with this variety of groups
can provide the NAACP with a great deal of benefits. More voices

Tsar Nicholas II Under The October Manifesto
The State Dumas were an elected legislative body that were to serve as a lower parliament. They were
started by Tsar Nicholas II under the October Manifesto, a document written after the increasing
pressure of the 1905 Revolution, this document promised more civil liberties, and the introduction of a
duma, under the influence of Sergei Witte, the chief minister. The four dumas ran between April 1906
and February 1917 and Nicholas II opposed a duma from the start, and most decisions came to the
Tsar and his council. Even though not much came of the dumas, they were still important and a
change in the way how Russia was run.
The First Duma, which was established after a promise in the October Manifesto to start a duma, first
met in May 1907,

Censoring American History
Honesty is the best policy (Benjamin Franklin). I believe that for the most part our programs and
policies in the US benefit the health and well being of the average modern person. However, I do think
that changes can be made to our education systems and overall political mindset in modern American
media. The United States educational systems and news medias are not honest with its student and
average citizens when it comes to American history and politics. Under these circumstances, many
high school and college students are not able to think for themselves and are being fed information
from schools and news media day in and day out whether it s true or not. For example, Tim Walker,
author of Who Stands Between Fake News and Students? Educators writes, Regardless of their age or
socioeconomic status, students across the board demonstrated a troubling inability to weed out
unreliable information . Students are not being taught how to tell if the information being learned in at
home and in school is reliable. In addition, students even struggle to grasp the concept that even the
news they are exposed to at home can be misleading. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sodium Chloride Sucrose And Potato Osmosis
The Effect of Sodium Chloride, Glucose, and Sucrose on Potato Tissue
By Rachel Thurmes
ABSTRACT
This experiment examined the water potential of white potatoes, and compared them to those
previously recorded. The validity of van t Hoff s Law was also tested by using different solutes in
which to test the potatoes. This was done by measuring potato core weight before and after soaking
them in solutions of different dissociations, and determining the percent weight change. Then van t
Hoff s Law was used to calculate the water potential of the potatoes. The water potential of the
potatoes soaked in sodium chloride was 5.67, glucose was 5.92, and sucrose was 5.66. These results
do not agree with van t Hoff s Law.
INTRODUCTION
This experiment examined the relationship between different concentrations of sodium chloride,
glucose and sucrose, and potato tissue. The water potential was estimated through a series of steps
leading us to find the point at which the percent weight change of the potatoes was zero, then using
van t Hoff s law to calculate the osmotic potential. Water potential is the chemical potential of water
compared to that of pure water, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This experiment went through a series of steps, starting with placing 100mL of different
concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl) in separate beakers. Sections of potato were punched out,
then dried and recorded for initial weight. Five were placed in each concentration of the sodium
chloride, and left to sit for an hour and a half. The mixtures were swirled about every fifteen minutes
to prevent shells of water from building up around the core and causing error in the results. After the
hour and a half, we removed the potato sections, dried them and then weighed them for the final
weight. The percent change in weight was calculated using the equation % Change = 100*(Final Wt

Essay on The Great Railroad Strike
The Great Railroad Strike
In the first half of the 19th Century the working class in the newly industrializing American society
suffered many forms of exploitation. The working class of the mid nineteenth century, with constant
oppression by the capitalist and by the division between class, race, and ethnicity, made it difficult to
form solidarity. After years of oppression and exploitation by the ruling class, the working class struck
back and briefly paralyzed American commerce. The strike, which only lasted a few weeks, was the
spark needed to ignite a national revolt by the working class with the most violent labor upheavals of
the century.
Railroads were the big business of the mid nineteenth century. The rail companies employed ... Show

During this period, many Americans, and particularly industrialists and the emerging middle class,
came to embrace the doctrine of laissez faire. The poor were so because they lacked ability and
determination. The rich were comfortable because of their superior talents and thrift, argued
supporters of a new ideology which turned Charles Darwin s theory of evolution into a new vision of
society s survival of the fittest.
As the rich became richer and the poor became poorer, it was realized by the laborers of the railroad
that their nation s economic growth and prosperity was not being equally shared among the people.
Coupled with years of wage cuts (35% over 3 years), and workforce reductions, that then required
remaining workers to work 15 18 hour days, the workers fought back.
In May of 1877 the Pennsylvania line announced another wage reduction of 10% to the worker s along
with speed ups (double the work). At this point the workers accepted it. Then in July of 1877 the
Baltimore Ohio line announced a 10% cut in pay. The workers questioned management, ‘how could
they survive on these wages and terms? But the owners did not listen, instead they took the position
‘quit if you don t like it .
On July 16, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, some of the workers decided to ‘quit and refused to work.
This spontaneous strike sparked protests in other cities including St. Louis,

Popular Culture Film And Music
Popular culture film and music has long since been awash with drug references and imagery. The
context of these references has majorly affected the way in which they are received and perceived by
the wider public, expressly in times of social or political change and unrest. The context in which
these images and sounds are being interpreted affect the response to racial vilification, representation,
along with gender roles and stereotypes. Conventional practice in the entertainment industries has
developed over time but drugs, their users and dealers, including the consumption and production,
continue to be portrayed in a mainly negative light, showing the complexity of this particular social
process.
Context, being the time and place in which the medium is being produced, assumes a major
responsibility in the portrayal of drugs themselves, the user, the dealer and the trafficker. Zinberg s
(1984) description of drug use as drug, set and setting presents strongly in the notion of context. This
is evident in the portrayal of a drug on screen as it becomes increasingly popular amongst the public.
Social and political changes affect usage and its representation of drugs in a community and the wider
world. The 1960s and 70s saw a hippie, anti establishment counterculture emerge and with this came
an expansion of drug culture. Music and videos released at this time by The Beatles such as the
psychedelic Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds video (1967) and much of the 1967 album,

Initially, Monica contacts Carl about the key items needed for orientation and he assures her that
everything is good to go. This could not have been further from the truth. At this point, he is not aware
of the problems he will face in his new endeavor. Carl s lack of experience is clearly exhibited when
his assurance has not been tested. The next key problem that arises for Carl is when he checks the new
trainee files and discovers that they are incomplete. All the new recruits have gone through the
interview process and filled out their paperwork. Unfortunately, the paperwork is incomplete and
missing lots of valuable data. To make matters worse, some files are missing transcripts, and no one
has completed the required drug screens. Problems only get worse for Carl when he discovers that
only three copies of the employee manuals exist. Of the three manuals that exist, they are all missing
several pages. Unfortunately, he needs fifteen complete copies. As if the previous issues alone are not
bad enough, Carl also learns that the training room he plans to use for orientation has been booked by
another individual for the entire month of June. At this point, he is faced with a serious dilemma, and
his lack of experience reveals that he does not realize the severity of his problem. Namely, he lacks
leadership because he failed to prepare and assumed that his first project would go smoothly. Next, he

Current and past innovation within Corporate culture
When thinking of leaders that create a corporate culture that sparked long term innovation through an
organization it s hard not to think of Steve Jobs or Vineet Nayar. Corporate culture refers to the
beliefs, values and behaviors that determine how a company s employees and management interact
and handle outside business transactions that the company has developed over time (Corporate
Culture). These two pioneers of innovative leaders although their stores are achievements are years

The Importance Of Comprehensive Site Investigations And...
The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA
accredited auditor can be seen in the court case Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental Earth
Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the
local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards. A
condition of the consent was that an auditor accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed
decontamination.
A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for
residential use, and the sale of the service station was completed relying on the report. The contract of
sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current business
zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected the
consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not signed it off.
The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority that
the site posed significant risk of harm to human health and the environment because of contaminated
groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down slope. Work stopped
for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and environment court to restrain
work until an accredited auditor had validated the site, as required by its development consent.

The Health Of The Current U.s. Economy
Situation:
The health of the current U.S. economy appears to be growing gradually. The second quarter real GDP
growth was 3.7% and the unemployment rate declined to 5.3%. The U.S Federal Reserve (Fed) is
expected to raise interest rates in the near future when it sees clear signs of strong economic growth
and improvements in the job market.
The last time the Fed raised interest rates (to 5.25%) was in 2006. This move was soon reversed as the
8 trillion dollar housing market bust sparked the global financial crises. About 8.7 million jobs (about
6%) were lost, unemployment rose to about 10% nationally leaving many households with less to
spend and higher debt.
Given its mandate to maximize employment and maintain price stability, the Fed took monetary policy
actions in December 2008 to keep long term interest rates at near zero (between 0.0% and 0.25%) to
help stabilize and revive the U.S economy leaving no option for further interest rate reduction.
The U.S has a hybrid economy and is considered a large market economy, where there is no central
authority directing people what to produce or where to ship it. So, what are the implications and likely
economic consequences of an interest rate hike using the IS LM model in a closed economy and a
basic market for loanable funds?
Closed economy IS LM analysis: The IS LM model focuses on the equilibrium of the goods market
and the money market. In other words, it shows the relationship between real output and interest rates.

The New Orleans Levee System
On August 29th of 2005, a category 3 hurricane, dubbed Hurricane Katrina, hit the Gulf Coast of the
United States. It brought winds of 100 to 140 miles per hour, and stretched more than 400 miles
across. New Orleans had its first mandatory evacuation ordered the day before, while listing the
Superdome as a shelter for those who couldn t leave town. More than 70 percent evacuated, while the
rest stayed at their homes, or took to shelters, to wait out the storm. The aftermath of Katrina was felt
in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, but New Orleans was affected the most by far. In the end,
more than 2000 were either seriously injured or killed, while those who survived were very short on
food, water, first aid, and had very few areas for shelter. A large reason the storm was so devastating
was the fact that the storm was able to cover almost 80 percent of the entire city under a large amount
of water. Before the storm hit, the city used levee systems and flood walls to protect itself from being
flooded. During the storm, however, many failures in the levee system caused close to 80 percent of
the flooding covering the city and the nearby parish. Many know that the levee system failed but few
in the public know that the major reason it had failed was because of the incomplete design. The

It is important for any engineer to understand what they are doing, and the consequences that can
occur if they make mistakes or take shortcuts. This case with the levee system is a perfect example of
how engineers need to be aware. It was shown that certain decisions had helped save the government
close to $100 million, but had dramatically dropped durability and reliability of the system. This
shows that, had they been more ethical and self aware, then the Hurricane Katrina disaster would have

Wealth In Haiti
5. What economic factors explain why Americans enjoy much more wealth than Haitians? It s safe to
say that Haiti is poor. Especially compared to the U.S. One of the causes for Haiti being so poor just
happens to be humans. They are entrenched in greed and power. The rulers there have ensured Haiti s
despair. Things like soil erosion, bad education system, illiteracy, unemployment, inadequate roads,
water systems, sewerage, and medical services are also some of the causes of Haiti s despair. The
international community also has a lot to do with Haiti being so poor. But the main root of Haiti s
problems comes from their government. The rulers there have used beatings, killings, illegal arrests

There will always be someone else trying to sell your product for less money. Many monopolies are
enforced by government. One example would be operating a cab in New York City. You would need a
government issued medallion. The number of medallions are fixed which develops profits for initial
owners. The profits are not because of talents or resources, instead these profits come by the absence
of government enforcement of the medallion requirement. The government enforcement of
monopolies is an attempt to solve market failure. An example would be New York City enforcing the
medallion rules because they are under the assumption that if they don t restrict cabs, there would be a
lot more traffic jams in the city. When government enforcement of monopolies is appointed for the
well being of subset being granted a monopoly instead of the well being of society, that is when greed
steps in. But monopolies can also improve welfare. For instance, a drug company developing new
heart medication will pay lots of money in research and development for perfecting the drug without
selling anything to achieve revenue. It anticipates that it will sell under a patent over some period of
time and cover the development cost. If you take away the monopoly it takes away the motivation to
produce better drugs. So if markets are not competitive then greed isn t really a problem. It is only a

Marion Nestle Protein Differences
Marion Nestle had decided to take a deeper look into the cereals that claim to have a good high source
of protein. One brand she had looked into was Cheerios Protein versus regular Cheerios. The protein
content was not that much of a difference, the protein claiming Cheerios had 7 grams of protein per 55
grams of a serving whereas the regular Cheerios have 3 grams of protein per 28 grams in a serving.
The difference is not much. People who are not in the food industry or are worried about their protein
intake do not see how this is not much a difference because they see the higher amount of protein
versus the smaller amount so they go for the cereal with the larger number. This is just a way for the
cereal brand to have a different and maybe

Mortal Man Defeats the ferocious Minotaur
Theseus saves citizens of Crete from the Minotaur

On Friday the 13th, 1370 B.C., the heroic Theseus went on a quest to find his father, Aegeus. Once

Wood individuals are sliced and joined to make floors, dividers and the top of a structure as per the
arrangement of construction archives and local building codes. Since the 1830s, two strategies for
wood framing have been utilized to encourage building a structure: balloon framing and platform

Balloon framing was genuinely well known on the east drift and parts of the Midwest previously.
Today it isn t for the most part permitted by current building codes. Be that as it may, it regards know

rapidly than ever before. Bill Freedman (2014) stated that, ...increases in global temperatures are due
to human activity (i.e., not due to solar variations, volcanic activity, cyclic warming or cooling trends,
etc.) ... This means that the warming of the earth is only global warming when it is caused by humans.
Currently, according to past trends on Earth, the planet is supposed to be undergoing a cooling, but
because of global warming the earth is on a heating trend. Global warming is caused by the Industrial
Revolution, increased greenhouse gases, and deforestation and impacts the world by raising
temperatures, melting polar ice caps, rising sea levels, and the extinction of species and the harm of
humans.
Causes of Global Warming
Global warming is a growing problem and if it is left alone, it will ruin the Earth. The main cause of
global warming is the industrialization of the world; this began with the Industrial Revolution in the
seventeenth century. The Industrial Revolution was the beginning of an era with machines, which lead
to mass production, and more jobs. It allowed countries to produce higher quality products in less
time. This was the switch from rural, agricultural towns to larger, urbanized cities. The

My Co-Op Placement
At my co op placement, I have a few duties or a specific role that I had to fulfill during the time I
worked there. The particular role given to me was to be a bus girl , a term used for an individual that
has the duty of clearing the tables and also setting it up again. However, I was also in charge of the
cleaning aspect, organizing as well as re stocking. Whether it may be sugar, ketchup, salt, pepper,
toilet paper, tissue paper and more that we run out of. I am in charge of being aware of when a certain
item is running out and changing it as to where everything is good as new, and we are set for another
day of business. Washing the dishes is also an important duty as we run out of eating utensils so fast
on a busy day. When I have the time, I do roll ups. Often times, the server is busy dealing with other
customers. So, I took it upon myself to welcome the customers by greeting them good morning, sitting
them down according to the number of customers or their preferred seats if available, then take their
drink orders to get them started and settled down while they wait for the server to take their order.
Then, there are less important duties that I do when it is not so busy such as sanitize down areas, ...

To commence, a receptive mentality has to do with always being ready to learn about new things with
an open mind. When criticized about a certain action you ve done such as packing food wrong the
wrong way or using the wrong chemicals to wipe down areas that food came in contact with, it is
important to not take the comments personally. In the real world, you will be told that you are doing
things wrong multiple times and it takes a mature and positive mindset to take it as a learning
experience to become a better worker. With this mentality, it will become easier to adapt to any work

Establishing Architecture For Large Enterprise Solutions
Establishing Architecture for Large Enterprise Solutions in Agile Environment Sujatha Dantuluri
Software Architecture Karsun Solutions LLC Herndon, USAAbstract Companies are adopting Agile,
Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Lean to deliver software faster to the market. These stack of
methodologies ensure early delivery and faster time to recover from mistakes. While developing
software iteratively we need to ensure design and quality are not compromised to speed. SAFe
proposes to use emergent architecture and design which develops iteratively. However, for large,
complex systems with multiple system integration points and high volume of transactional data, doing
architecture and design iteratively will lead to excessive rework, ... Show more content on

In order to establish an architecture for a system, we need to know the purpose and scope of the
application, its importance and relationship to the overall strategic goals of the organization based on
known requirements of the system being developed. However in an Agile environment where the
requirements are groomed iteratively and change is constant, establishing architecture and design
would be a daunting task. Especially if the system being developed is large enterprise level solution,
iterative architecture and design could result in a lot of rework and redundancy. If there are many
integration points and functionality spans across multiple applications, defining enterprise level
architecture helps the software being developed to align with strategic goals of the enterprise, helping
business capabilities to be shared across organizations. But establishing such architecture in an Agile
environment would be challenging. This paper addresses this issue and establishes a process for
architecture development for enterprise level applications. The paper defines a process to develop a
software solution which spans across multiple legacy applications using Agile principles . The
approach explained in the paper has been adopted for the development of software which modernizes
legacy data capture and is intended to establish a framework for enterprise level services in the future.
The solution spans across 6 legacy software systems.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Analysis
As I stated in the abstract, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the unexpected death of a healthy infant
in its sleep usually under the age of one. It is also known as crib death because the death usually
occurs in the crib. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome claims the lives of approximately 2,500 infants
each year. The majority of SIDS deaths occur between 2 and 4 month year olds. The cause of SIDS is
unknown in infants under one, but for infants over the age of one, there is a cause. A few of the causes
of SIDS include: smoking or drinking during pregnancy, inadequate prenatal responsibility,
prematurity, inexperienced mothers, smoking near or around the baby, enormous amounts of heating
from blankets or pajamas, and placing a baby on its stomach (Floyd R. Livingston Jr., MD. Sudden
Infant Death Syndrome. KidsHealth. 2014. Web).
The reason why the cause is unknown in infants less than one year old is due to the fact that a
thorough investigation cannot be performed since the baby is too young. If, however, the baby is over
one year, there can be an investigation. This usually includes an autopsy, a thorough investigation of
the death, and an examination of the infant s health. Also, another cause of SIDS can include
suffocation of the baby. This usually happens when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe that wherever the abnormal brain development is located, it can cause the baby to stop
breathing and this risk is incredibly high in an infant s brain that isn t fully developed. Scientists also
believe that if a baby is experiencing outward stress, it can make their breathing difficult and this can
lead to an increase in SIDS. To have a SIDS death, you have to have at least one of those [factors], and
you have a higher risk if you have two or three of those happening at the same time, (Fern Hauck. The

Lenin Return To Petrograd Research Paper
After the February Revolution Lenin wanted to return to Russia as soon as possible. This was a
problem because he was isolated in neutral Switzerland as World War I continued to be fought in
neighboring states. The Swiss communist Fritz Platten managed to negotiate with the German
government for the safe passing of Lenin on the sealed train. The German government clearly hoped
Lenin s return would create political unrest in Russia. The April Theses were a series of ten directives
expressed by the Lenin upon his return to Petrograd. The Theses were mostly aimed at fellow
Bolsheviks in Russia and returning to Russia from exile. He called for soviets (workers councils) to
take power, denounced liberals and social revolutionaries in the Provisional

Case Analysis
Case Analysis BP America, Inc.:
The Prudhoe Bay Oil Spill and a Commitment to Being Green
Michelle L. Staton
Case Summary The Angelo Persian Oil Company was formed in 1909 by a wealthy Englishman
named William Knox D Arcy. It did not operate under the British Petroleum (BP) name until 1954. In
early 1959, BP discovered hydrocarbons under the North Sea and Alaska, and found the West Sole gas
field in 1965 which was the first oil exploration success in British waters. In 1969, BP discovered
major oil deposits in Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska. The refining and marketing of the
Prudhoe Bay oil fields was handled by Standard Oil Company of Ohio, which also took over BP s
leases at Prudhoe Bay in exchange for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Things were going very well for BP, until March 2006 when crews discovered a small hole in the
pipeline at the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. The company is responsible for the northern Alaskan oil fields
and had no indication there was a leak until it was too late. Between 200,000 and 270,000 gallons of
crude oil leaked out of the hole in the pipeline over a five day period, and became the second worst oil
spill in the United States. The worst oil spill was a result of the Exxon Valdez tanker hitting a barrier
reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound in 1989. More than 11 million gallons of crude oil was
accidentally released into the water, and the region is still impacted environmentally from the spill.
The leaking pipeline disaster will have very similar severe environmental impacts on the region and
will definitely taint the company s image of safety and environmentally friendly operations for many
years to come. With the increase in oil exploration in the region, the quality of oil has significantly
declined. The lower quality oil flowing through the pipeline causes stress on the pipes leading to
corrosion and deterioration. Some of the pipeline is underground and, therefore, making it difficult to
detect a leak in those areas. BP has increased its budget to inspect the pipeline for corrosion, as well as
using an additive to breakdown emulsions in the oil. The pipeline was

Globalization of the Economy
Economic globalization has voluminous positive influences on international security as well. The most
important effect of economic globalization is that it curbs the authority of state. It also reduces states
dependence on military based security and ultimately reduces states monopoly on security. This effect
is considered by many, a prime factor contributing towards peace and stability. There are number of
factors associated with economic globalization which affects states authority.
Firstly, present economic globalization has opened the door of opportunities for most of the countries.
Though developed countries are making most profit from this opportunity but developing and even
least developing countries are also exploiting the mutual benefit. Due to open competition local
productions in less developed and developing countries are achieving better performance and
standard. Economic globalization is also creating employment opportunities in those countries. On the
other hand states are losing their monopoly on tax collection due to mismatch of economic and
political jurisdiction, and internet based trade. Thus, on one hand economy has become priority for
states, and on the other hand states losing part of its control on economy. Therefore, economic
globalization is exerting its authority on political and state power.
Secondly, with economic globalization there is an immense increase of the number of MNCs and their
power in influencing politics. These MNCs, as

The American Dream On Essay
And We Dream On.... What is the American Dream? Cambridge dictionary believes it is the belief that
everyone in the US has the chance to be successful and happy if they work hard . Dictionary.com says
it is a life of personal happiness and material comfort . No two definitions of the American Dream
seem to be the same, probably because it has changed so much over time. In the 1950 s, the dream
appears in a hazy view of the perfect life. People are almost brainwashed everyone s life looks exactly
the same. However, this is no strange coincidence; it is described by the phrase keeping up with the
Jones . If one person had a television in their house, then everyone would have one. Life for them was
all about seeming hip and cool . The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daisy and Tom want to appear as the dream couple, the Jones of the 1920 s.Throughout the cold war
era, the dream begins to shift. Now, the people of the US are fearful of Russia and communism. They
want to ensure their safety, and to do so they need to be in complete control. Again this concept is
parallel to The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe. The narrator of this story is a lonely alcoholic who
begins to distrust his beloved cat, and so he harms it and later kills it, just because he wants to be in
control. He wants to prove his power. Lastly comes the civil rights movement, where people are
willing to give their lives for equality. Their dream is for everyone to be treated the same way,
regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, and disabilities. Unfortunately, the struggle for civil
rights is somewhat still a reality as author Barbara Ehrenreich documents in her novel Nickel and
Dimed. Her novel is a personal account of a social experiment performed on people with low wage
lifestyles. Her book smashes stereotypes to try to help break down the barriers of discrimination. All
of these time periods and literary works are similar in the fact that they clearly portray the American
Dream, however the Dream is completely different based on several variables and seems

Some examples of allies would include the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), the National Organization for Women (NOW), and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, because they each represent minority factions of society that have traditionally faced discrimination ( Types of Interest Groups ). Other allied groups would be the American Civil Liberties Union and other liberal organizations that are dedicated to equality under the law. Some public interest groups may also be allies to the NAACP, as improved societal equality aids the common good of the people. Working with this variety of groups can provide the NAACP with a great deal of benefits. More voices ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were started by Tsar Nicholas II under the October Manifesto, a document written after the increasing pressure of the 1905 Revolution, this document promised more civil liberties, and the introduction of a duma, under the influence of Sergei Witte, the chief minister. The four dumas ran between April 1906 and February 1917 and Nicholas II opposed a duma from the start, and most decisions came to the Tsar and his council. Even though not much came of the dumas, they were still important and a change in the way how Russia was run. • 4. Censoring American History Honesty is the best policy (Benjamin Franklin). I believe that for the most part our programs and policies in the US benefit the health and well being of the average modern person. However, I do think that changes can be made to our education systems and overall political mindset in modern American media. The United States educational systems and news medias are not honest with its student and average citizens when it comes to American history and politics. Under these circumstances, many high school and college students are not able to think for themselves and are being fed information from schools and news media day in and day out whether it s true or not. For example, Tim Walker, author of Who Stands Between Fake News and Students? Educators writes, Regardless of their age or socioeconomic status, students across the board demonstrated a troubling inability to weed out unreliable information . Students are not being taught how to tell if the information being learned in at home and in school is reliable. In addition, students even struggle to grasp the concept that even the news they are exposed to at home can be misleading. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The framework was revamped this year and has taken heat from the Republican National Committee, which claims it emphasizes negative aspects of our nation s history . There are positive and negative aspects of every nation s history, students are not in the position to pick and choose which historical events are taught in schools. • 5. Sodium Chloride Sucrose And Potato Osmosis The Effect of Sodium Chloride, Glucose, and Sucrose on Potato Tissue By Rachel Thurmes ABSTRACT This experiment examined the water potential of white potatoes, and compared them to those previously recorded. The validity of van t Hoff s Law was also tested by using different solutes in which to test the potatoes. This was done by measuring potato core weight before and after soaking them in solutions of different dissociations, and determining the percent weight change. Then van t Hoff s Law was used to calculate the water potential of the potatoes. The water potential of the potatoes soaked in sodium chloride was 5.67, glucose was 5.92, and sucrose was 5.66. These results do not agree with van t Hoff s Law. INTRODUCTION This experiment examined the relationship between different concentrations of sodium chloride, glucose and sucrose, and potato tissue. The water potential was estimated through a series of steps leading us to find the point at which the percent weight change of the potatoes was zero, then using van t Hoff s law to calculate the osmotic potential. Water potential is the chemical potential of water compared to that of pure water, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This experiment went through a series of steps, starting with placing 100mL of different concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl) in separate beakers. Sections of potato were punched out, then dried and recorded for initial weight. Five were placed in each concentration of the sodium chloride, and left to sit for an hour and a half. The mixtures were swirled about every fifteen minutes to prevent shells of water from building up around the core and causing error in the results. After the hour and a half, we removed the potato sections, dried them and then weighed them for the final weight. The percent change in weight was calculated using the equation % Change = 100*(Final Wt Initial Wt)/Initial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on The Great Railroad Strike The Great Railroad Strike In the first half of the 19th Century the working class in the newly industrializing American society suffered many forms of exploitation. The working class of the mid nineteenth century, with constant oppression by the capitalist and by the division between class, race, and ethnicity, made it difficult to form solidarity. After years of oppression and exploitation by the ruling class, the working class struck back and briefly paralyzed American commerce. The strike, which only lasted a few weeks, was the spark needed to ignite a national revolt by the working class with the most violent labor upheavals of the century. Railroads were the big business of the mid nineteenth century. The rail companies employed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this period, many Americans, and particularly industrialists and the emerging middle class, came to embrace the doctrine of laissez faire. The poor were so because they lacked ability and determination. The rich were comfortable because of their superior talents and thrift, argued supporters of a new ideology which turned Charles Darwin s theory of evolution into a new vision of society s survival of the fittest. As the rich became richer and the poor became poorer, it was realized by the laborers of the railroad that their nation s economic growth and prosperity was not being equally shared among the people. Coupled with years of wage cuts (35% over 3 years), and workforce reductions, that then required remaining workers to work 15 18 hour days, the workers fought back. In May of 1877 the Pennsylvania line announced another wage reduction of 10% to the worker s along with speed ups (double the work). At this point the workers accepted it. Then in July of 1877 the Baltimore Ohio line announced a 10% cut in pay. The workers questioned management, ‘how could they survive on these wages and terms? But the owners did not listen, instead they took the position ‘quit if you don t like it . On July 16, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, some of the workers decided to ‘quit and refused to work. • 7. Popular Culture Film And Music Popular culture film and music has long since been awash with drug references and imagery. The context of these references has majorly affected the way in which they are received and perceived by the wider public, expressly in times of social or political change and unrest. The context in which these images and sounds are being interpreted affect the response to racial vilification, representation, along with gender roles and stereotypes. Conventional practice in the entertainment industries has developed over time but drugs, their users and dealers, including the consumption and production, continue to be portrayed in a mainly negative light, showing the complexity of this particular social process. Context, being the time and place in which the medium is being produced, assumes a major responsibility in the portrayal of drugs themselves, the user, the dealer and the trafficker. Zinberg s (1984) description of drug use as drug, set and setting presents strongly in the notion of context. This is evident in the portrayal of a drug on screen as it becomes increasingly popular amongst the public. Social and political changes affect usage and its representation of drugs in a community and the wider world. The 1960s and 70s saw a hippie, anti establishment counterculture emerge and with this came an expansion of drug culture. Music and videos released at this time by The Beatles such as the psychedelic Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds video (1967) and much of the 1967 album, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Importance Of Comprehensive Site Investigations And... The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA accredited auditor can be seen in the court case Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental Earth Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards. A condition of the consent was that an auditor accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed decontamination. A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for residential use, and the sale of the service station was completed relying on the report. The contract of sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current business zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected the consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not signed it off. The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority that the site posed significant risk of harm to human health and the environment because of contaminated groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down slope. Work stopped for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and environment court to restrain work until an accredited auditor had validated the site, as required by its development consent. • 12. The Health Of The Current U.s. Economy Situation: The health of the current U.S. economy appears to be growing gradually. The second quarter real GDP growth was 3.7% and the unemployment rate declined to 5.3%. The U.S Federal Reserve (Fed) is expected to raise interest rates in the near future when it sees clear signs of strong economic growth and improvements in the job market. The last time the Fed raised interest rates (to 5.25%) was in 2006. This move was soon reversed as the 8 trillion dollar housing market bust sparked the global financial crises. About 8.7 million jobs (about 6%) were lost, unemployment rose to about 10% nationally leaving many households with less to spend and higher debt. Given its mandate to maximize employment and maintain price stability, the Fed took monetary policy actions in December 2008 to keep long term interest rates at near zero (between 0.0% and 0.25%) to help stabilize and revive the U.S economy leaving no option for further interest rate reduction. The U.S has a hybrid economy and is considered a large market economy, where there is no central authority directing people what to produce or where to ship it. So, what are the implications and likely economic consequences of an interest rate hike using the IS LM model in a closed economy and a basic market for loanable funds? Closed economy IS LM analysis: The IS LM model focuses on the equilibrium of the goods market and the money market. In other words, it shows the relationship between real output and interest rates. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The New Orleans Levee System On August 29th of 2005, a category 3 hurricane, dubbed Hurricane Katrina, hit the Gulf Coast of the United States. It brought winds of 100 to 140 miles per hour, and stretched more than 400 miles across. New Orleans had its first mandatory evacuation ordered the day before, while listing the Superdome as a shelter for those who couldn t leave town. More than 70 percent evacuated, while the rest stayed at their homes, or took to shelters, to wait out the storm. The aftermath of Katrina was felt in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, but New Orleans was affected the most by far. In the end, more than 2000 were either seriously injured or killed, while those who survived were very short on food, water, first aid, and had very few areas for shelter. A large reason the storm was so devastating was the fact that the storm was able to cover almost 80 percent of the entire city under a large amount of water. Before the storm hit, the city used levee systems and flood walls to protect itself from being flooded. During the storm, however, many failures in the levee system caused close to 80 percent of the flooding covering the city and the nearby parish. Many know that the levee system failed but few in the public know that the major reason it had failed was because of the incomplete design. The disaster ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important for any engineer to understand what they are doing, and the consequences that can occur if they make mistakes or take shortcuts. This case with the levee system is a perfect example of how engineers need to be aware. Especially compared to the U.S. One of the causes for Haiti being so poor just happens to be humans. They are entrenched in greed and power. The rulers there have ensured Haiti s despair. Things like soil erosion, bad education system, illiteracy, unemployment, inadequate roads, water systems, sewerage, and medical services are also some of the causes of Haiti s despair. The international community also has a lot to do with Haiti being so poor. But the main root of Haiti s problems comes from their government. There will always be someone else trying to sell your product for less money. Many monopolies are enforced by government. One example would be operating a cab in New York City. You would need a government issued medallion. The number of medallions are fixed which develops profits for initial owners. The profits are not because of talents or resources, instead these profits come by the absence of government enforcement of the medallion requirement. The government enforcement of monopolies is an attempt to solve market failure. An example would be New York City enforcing the medallion rules because they are under the assumption that if they don t restrict cabs, there would be a lot more traffic jams in the city. When government enforcement of monopolies is appointed for the well being of subset being granted a monopoly instead of the well being of society, that is when greed steps in. But monopolies can also improve welfare. For instance, a drug company developing new heart medication will pay lots of money in research and development for perfecting the drug without selling anything to achieve revenue. It anticipates that it will sell under a patent over some period of time and cover the development cost. If you take away the monopoly it takes away the motivation to produce better drugs. So if markets are not competitive then greed isn t really a problem. It is only a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The difference is not much. People who are not in the food industry or are worried about their protein intake do not see how this is not much a difference because they see the higher amount of protein versus the smaller amount so they go for the cereal with the larger number. The world regularly undergoes eras of warming and cooling, the current event is due to humans and is happening more rapidly than ever before. Bill Freedman (2014) stated that, ...increases in global temperatures are due to human activity (i.e., not due to solar variations, volcanic activity, cyclic warming or cooling trends, etc.) ... This means that the warming of the earth is only global warming when it is caused by humans. Currently, according to past trends on Earth, the planet is supposed to be undergoing a cooling, but because of global warming the earth is on a heating trend. Global warming is caused by the Industrial Revolution, increased greenhouse gases, and deforestation and impacts the world by raising temperatures, melting polar ice caps, rising sea levels, and the extinction of species and the harm of humans. Causes of Global Warming Global warming is a growing problem and if it is left alone, it will ruin the Earth. The main cause of global warming is the industrialization of the world; this began with the Industrial Revolution in the seventeenth century. The Industrial Revolution was the beginning of an era with machines, which lead to mass production, and more jobs. It allowed countries to produce higher quality products in less time. This was the switch from rural, agricultural towns to larger, urbanized cities. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to establish an architecture for a system, we need to know the purpose and scope of the application, its importance and relationship to the overall strategic goals of the organization based on known requirements of the system being developed. However in an Agile environment where the requirements are groomed iteratively and change is constant, establishing architecture and design would be a daunting task. Especially if the system being developed is large enterprise level solution, iterative architecture and design could result in a lot of rework and redundancy. If there are many integration points and functionality spans across multiple applications, defining enterprise level architecture helps the software being developed to align with strategic goals of the enterprise, helping business capabilities to be shared across organizations. But establishing such architecture in an Agile environment would be challenging. This paper addresses this issue and establishes a process for architecture development for enterprise level applications. The paper defines a process to develop a software solution which spans across multiple legacy applications using Agile principles . The approach explained in the paper has been adopted for the development of software which modernizes legacy data capture and is intended to establish a framework for enterprise level services in the future. The solution spans across 6 legacy software systems. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Analysis As I stated in the abstract, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the unexpected death of a healthy infant in its sleep usually under the age of one. It is also known as crib death because the death usually occurs in the crib. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome claims the lives of approximately 2,500 infants each year. The majority of SIDS deaths occur between 2 and 4 month year olds. The cause of SIDS is unknown in infants under one, but for infants over the age of one, there is a cause. A few of the causes of SIDS include: smoking or drinking during pregnancy, inadequate prenatal responsibility, prematurity, inexperienced mothers, smoking near or around the baby, enormous amounts of heating from blankets or pajamas, and placing a baby on its stomach (Floyd R. Livingston Jr., MD. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. KidsHealth. 2014. Web). The reason why the cause is unknown in infants less than one year old is due to the fact that a thorough investigation cannot be performed since the baby is too young. If, however, the baby is over one year, there can be an investigation. This usually includes an autopsy, a thorough investigation of the death, and an examination of the infant s health. Also, another cause of SIDS can include suffocation of the baby. This usually happens when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In early 1959, BP discovered hydrocarbons under the North Sea and Alaska, and found the West Sole gas field in 1965 which was the first oil exploration success in British waters. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Things were going very well for BP, until March 2006 when crews discovered a small hole in the pipeline at the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. The company is responsible for the northern Alaskan oil fields and had no indication there was a leak until it was too late. Between 200,000 and 270,000 gallons of crude oil leaked out of the hole in the pipeline over a five day period, and became the second worst oil spill in the United States. The worst oil spill was a result of the Exxon Valdez tanker hitting a barrier reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound in 1989. More than 11 million gallons of crude oil was accidentally released into the water, and the region is still impacted environmentally from the spill. The leaking pipeline disaster will have very similar severe environmental impacts on the region and will definitely taint the company s image of safety and environmentally friendly operations for many years to come. With the increase in oil exploration in the region, the quality of oil has significantly declined. The lower quality oil flowing through the pipeline causes stress on the pipes leading to corrosion and deterioration. Some of the pipeline is underground and, therefore, making it difficult to detect a leak in those areas. BP has increased its budget to inspect the pipeline for corrosion, as well as using an additive to breakdown emulsions in the oil. The pipeline was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Globalization of the Economy Economic globalization has voluminous positive influences on international security as well. The most important effect of economic globalization is that it curbs the authority of state. It also reduces states dependence on military based security and ultimately reduces states monopoly on security. This effect is considered by many, a prime factor contributing towards peace and stability. There are number of factors associated with economic globalization which affects states authority. Firstly, present economic globalization has opened the door of opportunities for most of the countries. Though developed countries are making most profit from this opportunity but developing and even least developing countries are also exploiting the mutual benefit. Due to open competition local productions in less developed and developing countries are achieving better performance and standard. Economic globalization is also creating employment opportunities in those countries. On the other hand states are losing their monopoly on tax collection due to mismatch of economic and political jurisdiction, and internet based trade. Thus, on one hand economy has become priority for states, and on the other hand states losing part of its control on economy. Therefore, economic globalization is exerting its authority on political and state power. Secondly, with economic globalization there is an immense increase of the number of MNCs and their power in influencing politics. These MNCs, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The narrator of this story is a lonely alcoholic who begins to distrust his beloved cat, and so he harms it and later kills it, just because he wants to be in control. He wants to prove his power. Lastly comes the civil rights movement, where people are willing to give their lives for equality. Their dream is for everyone to be treated the same way, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, and disabilities. Unfortunately, the struggle for civil rights is somewhat still a reality as author Barbara Ehrenreich documents in her novel Nickel and Dimed. Her novel is a personal account of a social experiment performed on people with low wage lifestyles. Her book smashes stereotypes to try to help break down the barriers of discrimination.
