Public Broadcasting History
The concept of American public broadcasting: promoting diversity in TV and Radio
The purpose of this paper is to re evaluate the history of American public broadcasting. Particularly
this paper focuses on an important female political figure and two organizations that contributed to
build the foundation of American public broadcasting. Analyzing each of their roles in building the
principle of public broadcasting in the U.S. provides insights by which to consider the basics of
media industries today. The educational broadcasting in the U.S. became known as public
broadcasting. After the enactment of the Public Broadcasting Act in 1967, American educational
broadcasting was established in the same year, shaping the dynamics of the non profit media sector

As educational broadcasting forms the core of the American public broadcasting system,
universities/colleges, public schools, a board of education, and other non profit educational
organizations have been a member and part of the system of public broadcasting in the U.S.
Moreover, today?s public broadcasting stations originated on the university/college broadcasting
experimenting with wireless communication in the U.S. in 1910. The basis of the public
broadcasting system today is made up of non profit broadcasting stations that had been once faded
away by the widespread of commercial broadcasting in the 1920s. Through the course of its
development, there have been controversial discussions about the role of non profit educational
broadcasting within media industries for long time. Nonetheless, the continuous discussions about
the role of the educational broadcasting led to create decentralized non profit media sector that is

Stalin s Launch of the Great Terror Essays
Stalin s Launch of the Great Terror The Great Terror of 1936 1938 came after a period of
success, with the completion of the First Five Year Plan and the Peasants had been collectivised
to make food for the workers in the factories. Yet there was still opposition to Stalin s leadership
inside the party from Ryutin; Ryutin argued that Stalin should be removed from the position of
General Secretary. Stalin then called for the execution of Ryutin (most communist did not believe
in killing their own), Kirov, Stalin s supporter and the head of Leningrad headed the majority
against the execution. This made Kirov very popular in the party and when there was a vote in the
Central Congress for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also admitted to conspiring with Trotsky to destroy Communism this conspiracy was called
the Trotskyite Zinovievite Conspiracy. The other Trials were in 1937 with Trotsky, but he was
not in the country, yet they still said he was the lead conspiracer and a counter revolutionary. In
1938, Bukharin was put on trial, he admitted to nearly everything except, conspiring to plotting
the murder of Lenin. These trials made the Russian people believe that there was a conspiracy
going on and that anyone could be in on it. This made workers suspicious of anyone who did not
produce as much as their fellow workers, this meant that everyone worked hard. This was a
brilliant way of getting the workers to produce more to push crash industrialisation along, if there
had not been the conspiracy theory then Russia would not have acted like a Totalitarian State and
therefore not have been as productive. The theory scared the Russian people from even thinking
anti communist thoughts in case they were taken away to labor camps. This fear gave total
control to Stalin over all areas of Russia as no one wanted to be sent to the labor camps, so this was
a very effective way of controlling the people of Russia. Another reason for Stalin

Is there a role for primary prevention for patients with asymptomatic hyperuricaemia?

Gout is a very common disease in the UK, with 1 in 40 adults being affected by the condition
(The Gout Society UK 2014). The prevalence of the condition has increased in the past few
decades, and there is a greater disease burden in the more economically developed countries (Kuo
et al. 2015).
Uric Acid Gout: Physiology
Gout is an arthropathy that involves the deposition of urate crystals into a joint. An acute gout
attack involves deposition of joints into a joint, resulting in a painful, swollen joint that classically
affects the first metatarsophalangeal joint, although can involve other joints as well. Figure 1: the

2011), and these have been shown to be independent risk factors (Lin et al. 2000).
Hyperuricaemia is associated with higher all cause mortality
The classical hypothesis is that high uric acid levels lead to increased chance of crystals forming,
which then deposit in the joints. However, recent evidence has started to suggest that
hyperuricaemia itself is a risk factor for increased mortality from causes other than gout. A study
carried out on Japanese men has shown that high serum uric acid has been linked with an increased
relative risk of mortality from all causes in a study carried out on Japanese male workers (Tomita et
al. 2000). An increased mortality raises the question of whether we should routinely prescribe
primary prevention interventions in patients who are in the stage of asymptomatic hyperuricaemia.
Early studies have shown that there is no significant increase in mortality from renal failure. A
prospective study followed a cohort of 2046 initially healthy men and measured urate levels and the
incidence of a raised serum creatinine (Campion et al. 1987). They concluded that there wasn t a
significant rise in the creatinine level, and that there was no significant renal impairment caused
hyperuricaemia, supporting a conservative treatment regimen.
However, it is worth nothing that this measurement was done by correlation urate levels and
creatine levels as the baseline creatinine varies from person to person, it could be argued that this is

Carnival Cruise Industry
Introduction The cruise line industry has changed drastically over the past several years. What
was once thought of as a luxury to most people, is now affordable and convenient. The industry
now focuses on targeting the working middle class, as well as the upper class. One cruise line in
particular, Carnival, has mastered the informal cruise for the mass market. Carnival offers
numerous cruises that are inexpensive and exciting. Nevertheless, Carnival operates internationally
with shipyards and ports all over the world. Being an international business, Carnival is affected
by many global forces, both controllable and uncontrollable. In order to maintain the corporation s
success, Carnival must be aware of all global forces while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Carnival also minimizes staffing costs by sourcing employees on a global basis. The employees are
a key element to ensuring excellent customer service on the boats, therefore, customers will return
satisfied.
International Differences A few international differences affect the operations of cruise lines.
Differences include political/legal, geographic, economic, or sociocultural. Since cruise lines are an
international business, they are affected by these differences. Many cruise lines choose to flag their
vessels in countries that have lower taxes and less stringent employment practices required by the
laws of those countries (The Cruise). However, some governments may choose to subsidize the ship
industry in order to secure contracts for their domestic firms. Many ships are built in order to be
appealing to the eye, but with cruise ships going to so many different places, they have to be
designed not only to accommodate the economic reality of the mass market, but also the cultural
preferences of the clientele. Carnival designed seasonal cruises that sail to different destinations.
The themes chosen are based on the locations the ship will be travelling to. Also, buffet options
are available in order to provide a variety of food options for the customers and avoid cultural
preferences.
International Sales Effective marketing is crucial when selling cruises internationally. The majority
of customers who board of a cruise ship are men and women from 18 50

Agnew Cyberbullying
of all the female victims 39% felt frustrated, 36% felt angry and 25% felt sad about it, the males
figures were 27%, 36% and 17% for each of those respective categories. Females seem to show
high susceptibility to bullying than males. However, this is hardly surprising since males tend to
admit emotional weakness less readily than their female counterparts do.
Sociologist Robert Agnew developed the Great Strain Theory, which hypothesizes that victims of
bullying can develop problematic emotions, which cause deviant behavior. The victimgoes through
a vicious cycle and this can result to the victim developing antisocial behavior as they try to process
their emotions and find an outlet for their anger and frustration (Hinduja and Patchin (2011).
Bullying also takes a toll on the bully. Donegan (2012) reports over 60% of males with bullying
tendencies between grade six and nine were later convicted of at least one crime in their adult
life. This is in comparison to 23% of people who did not bully. Forty per cent of these former
bullies got at least three conviction by the time they were age 24 years; this is in comparison to
10% of those who were not bullies.

Black Men And The American Civil Liberties Union
According to to the American Civil Liberties Union, California s research shows that black men
are three times more likely to be stopped and frisked than whites. (Quigley) Some may say that
this topic is based on nothing but opinions. That is not true. There are facts behind the accusations
made by so many people accusing law enforcement agents of being racist. The job of law
enforcement is to serve and protect the people, showing no bias towards any specific race, but this
is not always the case.
While many think this is a perfect world where there is no racism, the reality is that everywhere
in the world there is at least one person who is racist. Being a racist is difficult, especially in this
day in age. Today there are all types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This statistic shows that the officers of the NYPD are judging blacks and assuming they are guilty
before they even gather enough evidence. When black people are arrested, they receive ten percent
longer sentences than white offenders, says the US Sentencing Commission, for the same crime.
An obvious example of bias against black men is to incarcerate black men in jail for longer
periods of time simply because of race. This is clearly a problem in the legal systems of the US.
Eventually someone will get harmed in the middle of this racial discrimination. (Quigley)
On August 4th, 2014, an eighteen year old boy by the name of Michael Brown was killed by
Darren Wilson. Mr. Wilson was an officer of the Ferguson Police Department. He was a twenty
eight year old white male and was accused of killing Michael out of racial hatred. This case was
examined but not enough evidence was accumulated to charge Mr. Wilson with the murder of
Michael (Moylan). This act of violence touched many people s hearts but made many people
angry. It was thought that the FPD was being racist when Michael was killed because of statistic
after the investigation. The arrest rate in seven felonies in the FDP decreased by over fifty percent
and the police commissioner stated that overall crime decreased. (Newsday) After these statistics
were reviewed, some thought it was time for repercussions. This in turn was the reason behind

3rd Writing Assignment
At the end of the 19th century, fin de siГЁcle did not just indicate the end of one century: it
indicated the collapse of language and a way of thinking. This idea was illustrated by works
such as von Hofmannstahl s Lord Chandos Letter and Schnitzler s Dream Story, which seem to
argue that a new mode of thinking was necessary for a new age. Indeed, Freud s writings and
Trakl s poems offered this new mode of thinking by challenging the border between what is real
and what is imaginary through their works. In music and art, a similar trend was taking place: late
19th century works offered the audience a window into the artist s emotions, experiences, and
desires. This idea is seen in Gustav Mahler s 1st Symphony and Egon Schiele s Seated Male Nude,
in which both artists channel their experiences and emotions to release suppressed elements of
their psyches. However, the purpose for their expressivity is different: Mahler s expressivity
stems from a desire to find relief from mental stress stemming from his turbulent life, Schiele s
from a desire to explore new ways of conveying the self.
Mahler s 1st Symphony holds an intimate relationship with his childhood and upbringing; the
music reflects and reveals Mahler s experiences and desires for what his future will look like. From
the beginning of his 1st Symphony, Mahler paints a vast, open space with the string s sustained,
unison A. Various musical figures in the beginning of the 1st

Figurative Language In Richard Cory By Edward Arlington...
The narrative poem Richard Cory written in 1897 by Edward Arlington Robinson. Depicts the
fascinating life of a play boy protagonist who has a perfect lifestyle and has everything that one
could ever imagine, yet despite him being a out most perfect individual at the end of the story he
commits suicide. The poet was influenced with the interpretation towards how many individuals in
this world can assume that those who are greater always seem to have an outstanding life. As a
young boy Robinson wrote to his dear friend at the ageof six, questioning why he was born
introducing a great element to his poems because at a very young age his life was tremendously
bleak. Throughout the story the poet utilizes various methods of figurative language such as irony,
point of view, and metaphors to introduce such elements of how life can be so great but despite it
being great others can assume that you re happy but no one really knows what you re enduring. In
this paragraph the poet demonstrates the emotions that the residentsfeel when they re around the
protagonist. Robinson implies third person point of view as we thought that he was everything. To
make us wish that we were in his place. allowing the readers to comprehend that the protagonist was
more than just a typical normal resident in their neighborhood. Also conveying that those who
surrounded him were below their noble class that to them he was seen as Clean favored, imperially
slim. informing the readers that he was seen as royalty. Despite the residents admiring his presence,
he was always filled with a fluorescent personality. The poet introduces this element he fluttered
pulses when he says, Good morning allowing the readers to understand that not just his physique
was out standing but the way he had proper manners to say Goodmorning to those that surrounded
him. The poet allows the comprehension that the protagonist has always been an outstanding
individual.
Although the author describes the emotions that the residents have towards him they still envy him
in the way that they describe him more then what would be expected. Robinson utilizes metaphors
richer than a king to allow the readers to comprehend that the protagonist was very

The Death Of Socrates By Plato
Phaedo is an account of events before and after the death of Socrates as written by Plato in the
form of dialogue. This dialogue is an expression of various arguments and beliefs on the theme of
mortality. Phaedo was one of the men present to witness the death of Socrates, and before the
execution, they had engaged in conversations with which Socratesexpressed his ideas on death, the
soul, and the belief in the existence of an afterlife. Platos philosophical idealism is expressed in
Phaedo in some ways. For instance, one could apply the cyclical argument that any living being is
eternal with the soul as the imperishable aspect. Plato expresses that the soul gives continuity as it

This situation is dependent on a good system of government, and this is the manner in which
Aristotle transitions to Politics. Here, Aristotle expresses the need for the political leadership to
work in liaison with the community to embrace virtuous living.
The religious life in the Roman world experienced a lot of transformations with time. The changes
can be observed through the literature depending on when it was written. For instance, some
revolutions are noticeable in Book 6 of Virgil s Aeneid and Apuleius s The Golden Ass.
Book 6 of Aeneid is a sort of prophecy as Virgil gives an account of Aeneas journey to the
Underworld. The author s imagination gives an insight into the nature of punishments for sin and
that lack of adherence to the virtues of the religion results in dire consequences. The gods are
portrayed as being temperamental and are willing to exert their wrath on the human race. The gods
demand sacrifice and obedience from the human race which they proclaim superiority over. The
underworld defines the afterlife whereby the people are rewarded depending on the kind of lives
they lived on earth. The Underworld is described to have many sections, and the people are judged
depending on their virtuosity. This religious belief embraces Orphism as there is the presence of
Orpheus, a priest. Radhamanthus is given the task of listening to people s sins and sentencing them.

Renaissance Women
Influence, power and authority typically accompanied men in sixteenth century Europe, but often
they symbolically follow the beautiful women in English Renaissance plays. One instance of this is
when immediately after meeting with Bel imperia, Hieronimo is suddenly able to initiate his
revenge, whereas previously his attempts had been futile. Throughout English Renaissance plays,
women of beauty are not only desired, but also symbolize who has power, authority, and agency.
While women typically weren t allowed to act independently and have their own agency, authors in
this time period seem to radically imply that men who have the fierce loyalty or at least control over
beautiful women can be successful. Ambitious men such as Balthazar, Lorenzo,... Show more

Essay Of Fight Club And Memento
Critical Essay by Agnes Bruinsma 385859 When you have insomnia, you re never really asleep...
and you re never really awake (Fight Club, date). The neo noir movies Fight Club (1999) and
Memento (2001) illustrate a reality, as seen by the protagonists. However, what exactly is reality?
This issue is employed skilfully in both Fight Club and Memento, which makes them interesting to
watch and analyse. The Usual Suspects, another neo noir film, also employs the issue reality in the
narrativebut, it differs from Fight Club and Memento, as reality is twisted by intention. This
critical essay will take a look at the different causes for a distorted reality, how the protagonists
receive reality, the use of narrative to create a distorted reality... Show more content on

These twists lets one question everything that just happened. In Fight Club, the narrator finds out
that Tyler Durden is not another men, but him. This changes the whole context. The audience
has no idea that Tyler Durden is the narrator, as they are most likely captivated by his chaotic,
sociopathic and masculine character. Once finding out the truth, one needs to rethink the entire
film. Every scene has a different meaning once finding out that Tyler and the narrator are one. In
Memento Leonard is confronted by Teddy a cop and his friend that Sammy Jankis the men
Leonard often talks about is actually him. He tells Leonard that he has been lying to himself in
order to be happy and that he is chasing a men who he believes is John G. Teddy furthermore
suggests that actually has created a different reality in which he is chasing John G, in order to
cope with the fact that his condition killed his wife. When Leonard later gets in his car and askes
himself Do I lie to myself to be happy? (Memento, 2000), which he admits, a distortion in reality is
justified by himself. He then makes Teddy the new John G, which changes the way the audience
looks at Leonard.
To conclude, both Fight Club and Memento use an unconventional narrative structure and tell
thrilling stories. The movies enchant the viewers from the beginning with their absorbing
storylines. The distortion of reality is created by protagonist with different views on reality,

China Is The Second Large Economy
Nowadays, everyone says China is the second large economy in the world. In 2015, GDP of
China reached $11,385 billion with a growth rate of 6.9%. Some people predict that one day
GDP of China will exceed GDP of U.S. and that day will come soon. Unquestionably, China is
growing rapidly and the Chinese economy is doing well, but does this mean the Chinese citizen
is at high utility level? The answer is no. The fact is that most of the Chinese citizens today are
facing the problem of unbalanced income and prices, which means the living costs are too high
while the salary rate is relatively low. Besides, China is developing rapidly these years, Chinese
people are demanding a better life which they want to eat better food, have a better education, and
live in a better house. Therefore, people in China today are confronting the problem. Why is this
problem occurring? Other than the high population rate of China, there are few more reasons: 1)
high taxrate, which cause high living expenses; 2) low social benefits, which mainly embodied in
high medical expenses; 3) unaffordable housing price, which some people cannot even afford a
house with mortgage, other people can only barely afford it but with overload pressure; 4) low
salary rate due to variety reasons; and 5) export too much products to U.S. causes inflation which
decreases RMB purchasing power, thus, prices for goods and services in the market increasing and
people can buy less with their salary. According to current

Rat Overpopulation Research Paper
In many parts of the world, rats have invaded in and out of people s homes. Rat infestation has
been a problem for generation after generation. Rat overpopulation is a result of various causes and
they can cause a multitude of problems for humans. When searching for a solution to the
overpopulation of rats, one must first consider the origins of the problem, the dangers it is causing,
and how to eradicate them.
To begin, one major subject you should evaluate is the origin of the problem, how the rodent
infestation started. Natural disasters, lack and excess amounts of food, and inclement weather are
all reasons the rats have invaded cities everywhere. In source #1, it states, Recent cold weather and
flooding is believed to have led the disease carrying rodents to shelter indoors. This explains how
the weather conditions have brought the rats seeking indoor shelters, which means they ve been
running straight into people s homes. Also, it states in source #3, And with the regrowth of
vegetation, the rats and mice have had an ample food source and are reproducing quickly. This
exemplifies how the rodents have had easy food sources from the vegetation growing back, which
then results in them repopulating at an increased rate. All in all, the weather conditions and
vegetations have brought the rats out into the cities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the text states in source #3, Rats and mice eat and contaminate human, pet and
livestock foods. This shows how the rodents would adulterate food for not just people, but also

hoses, and ruin several other things in individuals homes. Overall, the rat s actions have ruined
people s properties and could result in humans and animals to be infected by the illnesses that the

Shankman s View Of War
Shankman discusses the view of the war, and the sinking of the Maine, from the perspective of
the Methodist church. Throughout the church there was varying opinions of the explosion and
the war itself. Some people believed that the war would be necessary, while others believed there
was no need for a war. IN an editorial from a New York Methodist newspaper in April 1898:
Should we now go to war, insisted the Syracuse Northern Christian Advocate, our cause will be just,
and Methodismwill be ready to do its full duty. Every Methodist preacher will be a recruiting
officer (Shankman, 1973). However, in the south, the Southern Christian Advocate pushed for
people to help send aid to the Cubans that are refugees and on the island; some groups even set up
soup kitchens and churches donated some money as charity. These opinions helped spread the
divide after the attack on the Maine:
Generally, the Methodist press advised that rash accusations were unjust and foolish. The Nashville
Christian Advocate suspected that the explosion had been the work of a misguided Spaniard or
resulted from a fire on the Maine, and it thought that all premature judgments on the cause of the
sinking did more harm than good. (Shankman, 1973)
That view did not last long, by April 14 it was believed that the sinking of the USS Maine was not
a mere accident, The Atlanta Wesleyan Christian Advocate first believed that Spanish perfidy had
caused the catastrophe but later decided some hotheads

Abolition And James Russell Lowell
Abolition and James Russell Lowell
The Declaration of Independence gave us the famous words: we hold these truths to be self
evident, that all men are created equal. James Russell Lowell was a staunch believer that this
famous phrase referred to all men, including slaves. Lowell held the opinion that it was the inborn
right of all men to be free and that God created all human beings with the same natural rights. The
poems The Present Crisis, On the Capture of Fugitive Slaves Near Washington, and Ode Recited At
the Harvard Commemoration combined moral and religious beliefs and arguments to make a
political statement about the abolition of slavery.
The Present Crisis was written by James Russell Lowell in 1844 to the discuss the crisis sweeping
the nation at that time slavery. In this poem, Lowell explains some of the justifications for the
practice of slavery, which he considered to be utterly incorrect. In ... Show more content on

By writing this poem, the author hopes to clearly state that all men are equal and that slavery is
an affront to God. Ultimately his goal is that those reading this poem will be inspired to abolish
slavery. He makes it clear that all people are equal in the eyes of God, or in Lowell s words, God
works for all (Lowell 82). Lowell believed that America was no longer using morality as its
guide, but instead was being guided by poorly concealed self interest. According to a critic of
Lowell s, He believed that America had lost sight of the common good. Increasingly divided into
high and low, the populace seemed, to his mind, no longer willing to distinguish individual self
interest from civic virtue (Bell 131). As a result of the strong sentiments the author displays in this
poem, the reader might feel repulsed at those who put themselves and what they perceive to be best

Explain The Stages Of Collective Bargaining
Collective bargaining is a process by which workers through unions negotiate with their employers
their working conditions. This could be health and safety policies, remuneration, benefits, working
hours and leave. Collective bargaining is a tool used to solve workplace problems. The sole
objective of this negotiation is to arrive at an agreement between workers and employers thus
cementing effectiveness, efficiency and productivity in the workplace. Collective agreement is the
result of the process of collective bargaining. The stages of collective bargaining are preparation,
opening the negotiation, bargaining and closure and agreement. The preparation stage in collective
bargaining is where the parties are preparing before the collective bargaining process has occurred.
This stage involves activities that include identifying the approach they would implement at the
bargaining chamber, considering and weighing demands or proposals, researching, considering the
mandates and coming up with their best alternative to a negotiated agreement (BATNA). The
process of identifying the approach to be implemented in the bargaining chamber is crucial as this
helps the representatives have a collective direction of how to tackle the process. There are

The Value of Life Essay
Should people put the value of life into monetary value or should life be kept solely as an
emotional quantity? People and societies throughout the ages have been trying to answer the
problem of putting the value of life into terms of dollar bills. The ancient Egyptians buried their
dead with all of their worldly belongings. They believed a person s monetary worth on Earth was
over, and they should take all of that earthly worth with them to the afterlife. Modern day
Americans are different from the Egyptians. Today people believe that the families of the dead
should be compensated for their loss.
It is true that life is a precious commodity much like a diamond. But unlike a diamond, life has no

Is it more important in society to make babies than it is to just live your life? What about people
who haven t yet had a chance to start a family because their lives were cut so short? Now all that
money sounds like a blessing, doesn t it?
Well now that you have your foundation money, now you have to subtract the money you get
from life insurance, pension, Social Security death benefits, and worker s compensation. After
these little subtractions, you now have the total that you are going to receive from the
government s fund. Now you are going to be hit with new questions after all this, for example is
a rich man with high life insurance, high pension, and no children worth less than a poor man
with no life insurance, no job, and ten children (Ripley 13)? The answer to all these questions is
no. The lives of all people should be valued at the same price, if you are to set a price at all. A
rich man should be the same as a poor man; a woman with no children should have the same life
value as a woman with seven kids. The point is that if the government is going to put a monetary
value of a human life, than it should be the same for everyone. We hold these truths to self
evidence: that all men are created equal (King Jr.).
There are many arguments against putting a money value on human life and two of the most
impressive come from Alephonsion Deng and Lance Armstrong. Alephonsion

Fear And Trembling Kierkegaard
Kierkegaard claims that, Infinite resignation is the last stage before faith, so anyone who has
not made this movement does not have faith, for only in infinite resignation does an individual
become conscious of his eternal validity, and only then can one speak of grasping existence by
virtue of faith, (page 52). This idea is demonstrated when Abraham surrenders himself to his fate
and surrenders the life of his son to God. This infinite resignation is the reason God grants
Abraham his son s life because he proves his eternal love and faith in God, by his willingness to
sacrifice Isaac. Faith is put to the test when Abraham must sacrifice what he loves most to prove
his love to God, while Antonius Block suffers from a similar problem of giving faith to God,
which seems hopeless and invisible. Faith is put to the test when one must pursue infinite
resignation in order to have faith. In the book Fear and Trembling, Soren Kierkegaard describes
an either/or situation of either God or the world. This is the idea that faith must be built from
infinite resignation, the resignation of everything besides God, and God must come primarily
before the world. To Abraham, his only son, Isaac, is his world, and he is told to sacrifice his
world for God. I can still save my soul as long as my concern that my love of God conquer within
me is greater than my concern that I achieve earthly happiness, (page 49). Abraham accepts his
task and sacrifices his son, whom he loves dearly, for

The Murderer s Motivation Depicted in Poe s The Tell-Tale...
Poe s writings are not without morals, and as a representation of a guilty conscience, The Tell
Tale Heart has been called one of the most effective parables ever conceived (Ward 310). I find it
almost impossible to believe that Poe has no serious or artistic motive in The Tell Tale Heart, that he
merely revels in horror and only inadvertently illuminates the depths of the human soul, James
Gargano asserts. He further states that though Poe s stories sometimes seem to be nothing more
than ramblings of crazed narrators, the structure, development, arrangement, and irony of the
narrator s confessions allow Poe to offer ideas which the narrators themselves never actually
possessed ( The Question 328). For example, the narrator is... Show more content on

According to the second erroneous theory, another influence to the narrator s madness is the
similarity between himself and his victim. The gaze of the evil eye is duplicated in the dim ray of
light from the lantern, and the narrator and victim both remain completely still in the dark, not
moving a muscle, listening. Other sensory details connect the two until they seem to be the same
person, and since the narrator wishes to destroy himself, he murders the old man (Robinson 258
59). These assertions that time and unity with the old man are the two pivotal motifs driving the
narrator to murder are mistaken. Time plays a different role in relation to the dastardly plot, and
the murder has nothing to do with the old man himself, only his eye. The extension of time in
the story is only a result of the narrator s caution in his preparations for the murder. The
prolonging of time does not cause the narrator grief and certainly does not drive him to homicide.
In fact, his slow movements were intentional. I moved it slowly very, very slowly, so that I might
not disturb the old man s sleep (46). The narrator says these words, referring to thrusting his head
through the doorway to look into the old man s bedroom. Next he says, And then, when my head
was well in the room, I undid the lantern cautiously, oh, so cautiously cautiously (for the hinges
creaked) (Poe 46). The slowness of the action is simply a precaution. Also, the beating of the

From Grandeur to Arrogance Walt Whitman s poem, To a Locomotive in Winter and Emily
Dickinson s I Like to See It Lap The Miles are two different poems about the same subject, the
steam engine. Where Whitman uses solely free verse, Dickinson s poem more closely follows
standard writing practices, with very structured line breaks. Another key difference in these works
is the speech they use; Whitman uses old English laden with thee and thy, whereas Dickinson uses
fairly modern terminology. Whitman describes the elegant and powerful grandeur of the

Cummings, T.G and Worley raises the concept about change
, for the trends to occur the organization
must undergo through changes. Cummings is able to sew together the organization with the
emerging trends to bring the concept of change making him the main source (Kelley, 2002).
Findings Technology
Some of the major trends in surrounding areas of organizational development in training and
strategy in Japan are mostly brought about by challenges. These challenges then lead to problem
solving which results to change thus new trends are formed. It is thus of great importance to
discuss the macro issues responsible for bringing about these trends. These may include changes in
technology. Japan is among the leading countries when it comes to science and technology; this
puts Japan in a situation where it is ever changing in terms of infrastructure and developments.
Technology brings about new ideas into reality, this leads to the organizations having to draft new
ways to adopt.
When organizations are training their employees, the emerging trends do not allow them to leave
technology behind; this includes the use of mobile phones and online training. The result is
increased efficiency in work. The organization will tend to undertake those projects that are useful,
and resourceful, hence it will easily adapt to changes brought about by technology. Also these
trends are in most cases responsible for

Who s Cookin As A Catering Business
1.0Introduction
Who s Cookin is a catering business that launched in 1975 that serves customers with great food
and service for their event needs. Operating in 5 different locations in South East Brisbane, the
business is looking to expand to 10 different locations across other cities in the near future. Who s
Cookin has however been gradually declining over the past few years as the business is obsolete
when it comes to customers wanting efficient and time saving solutions when ordering for catering
services. The business have manual cashiers that take a lot of time to use for cashiers, and have no
reliable resources to store data of orders when filing. In order for the business to improve and
update, a bank loan of $100,000 has been applied from Who s Cookin to transform the business with
21st century technology to potentially own the latest Information and Communications Technology
(ICT), Information Systems (IS), and Computer Based Information Systems (CBIS). This
enhancement will allow Who s Cookin to have digitalized cash registers, computer devices for
storing important business data, fund local TV advertisements, and even sustain funding a website
and phone application for customers to order online. The business will run more time efficiently if
the company technology was improved. It would also increase productivity and improve customer
satisfaction overall.

Jonathan Bacon s A Modest Proposal, By Jonathan Swift
Amid the late 17th century, Jonathan Swift s pamphlet, A Modest Proposal, exploits the
negligence of British government towards the Irish people, especially the impoverished. To
illustrate the disregard of the government, he uses logical fallacies, metaphors, repetition and
parallelism as well as humor, sarcasm and satiric tone to highlight these negative attitudes. Not
only does he applies these literary devices, he adopts Francis Bacon s, The Four Idols, to
exemplify the intention of this pamphlet. Adopting Bacon s ideas of the corruption, illusions,
and errors of people in society, Swift had the ability to demonstrate the government s negligence
towards the people of Ireland. Bacon s exemplify his ideas regarding society through four idols:
Idols of the Cave , Idols of the Tribe , Idols of the Marketplace, and Idols of the Theater . Moreover,
Swift adopts these idols in his proposition, exhibits how the knowledge each... Show more content

He informs mothers how they should engage themselves in working hard for an honest living
instead of being beggars. Furthermore, he predicts the stringent future for these children, who
eventually will end up to be thieves because of how their parents raised them to not live a
modest life. He explains, These mothers, instead of being able to work for their honest
livelihood, are forced to employ all their time in strolling to beg sustenance for their helpless
infants: who as they grow up either turn thieves for want of work (Para. 1). To inform the
impoverished mothers in Ireland, their necessity to live a honest life not just for themselves but so

John Locke s Second Treatise
John Locke and the Second Treatise is simply a section of his great works on his different views
on certain issues within the government . Chapter one begins with Locke restating what his
arguments were in the First Treatise. Locke also gives his position on Sir Robert Filmer s
teachings. Locke s first point was that Adam did not have authority over his children nor over
the world which would have been given from God. There is no possible way for someone to
claim they are in relation to Adam based off of a supposed source of evidence. Being that Adam
does not have actual indication of his family lineage, there is no proof that Adam or any
supposedly family member, would have the power to rule anyway. In chapter one Locke also states
his definition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To simply put Locke s definition, he defines this as, men being in a natural state and having the
privilege to do everything they please as long as it doesn t go against the law. This law states
that everyone is equal to one another. No man is more powerful than another man. Nevertheless,
that does not give any man to abuse his equality over another mans equality, the naturalness of
law still continues in a state of nature. In the bible it states that everyone is equal unless God
says otherwise. He also goes into detail about how we as humans have no right to destroy our
bodies, for example suicide. Locke claims that we are all independent beings so we should all
take value to our lives. He also claims that no one else should harm any other person s
possessions, health or liberty, simply because that bible says so. As for law breakers, Locke states
that anyone who commits a crime, the law is subjected to punish lawbreakers as sternly as needed.
The punishment of a crime is only acceptable if the consequences are equal to the crime committed.
And if such a crime is committed and the consequences should follow, punish them unto the law not
unto your own will. However if man has murkered another man, the law has the right to kill the
murderer. By taking a man s life away, this is setting an example for others who watch the
punishment to discourage them from making that same mistake in

Contractionary Fiscal Policy
Fiscal Policy is one of the two aspects that are utilized by the Federal Government to influence the
economy. Fiscal, which is signified as financial is a policy that can cause alternating changes in
governmental expenses and custom gatherings, in order to achieve the aspects of full employment
and non inflationary inner outputs within the economy. During the year of 2007, a crisis within
some of the major financial institutes off the nation occurred that resulted in the Great Recession,
that reveal in the following year of 2008 the Fiscal Policy was conveyed as expansionary.
Expansionary Fiscal Policy Expansionary Fiscal Policy is utilized when the economy is
experiencing a recession. In order to keep the economic sustained, the government would increase
governmental spending and, also lower taxes, and with these occurrences it will increase the
demand which can raise the gross domestic product. The occurring combination of governmental
spending and tax reductions could increase the demand as well as, spending within the economy.

Italy During The Renaissance Era
The Renaissance era was a time of grand cultural and social changes for Europe. This era
began around the year 1350 up until the year 1700. The Renaissance era s birthplace was Italy,
then spread all across to Europe around the 17th century. The word Renaissance means rebirth
which is a perfect description of the theme of this era. People were going through changes in
many things such as the way they learned and in art as well. The one major reason why the
Renaissance began in Italy in the first place was mainly because of geography. The city states of
Italy, which were located right on the Mediterranean Sea, were the popular places for trade and
commerce.

Thomas was a very pragmatic musician. This
means that he dealt with things realistically in a certain way that is more focused on practical
than a separate and unrealistic way of thinking.
In the end, Thomas is now very much known as an outstanding father of English
Cathedral music. Unfortunately he had passed away on November 23, 1585, Greenwich, United
Kingdom. To this day, the question about where his human remains are is unknown. His remains
may have been discarded by labourers between 1712 and 1714, when St Alfege Church was
rebuilt. Nothing is left of Tallis s original memorial in that church.
No words can sum up how great and influential this period of history was. People began
to be more liberal with their thoughts and their individuality. Tallis composed of sacred works
that really did resemble the times of music in the Renaissance era. Thomas Tallis has absolutely
contributed to the true essence and meaning of what Renaissance period was. After all, he is

Input, Output, and Connectivity Input, output, and connectivity are some of the most important
considerations to make when choosing a computer. Without input and output our computers would
not be able to function as they properly should, therefore making decisions on these sections are an
important part in choosing a computer. In my last paper I broke down the main operating factors to
consider when shopping for a computer: CPU, auxiliary storage, and RAM. These were the heart of
the computer, but now we have to decide on the functionality that can be represented through input
and output options. Through this paper we are going to try and rule out the obsolete ... Show more

Bluetooth keyboards are so convenient to have as they help make the general experience more
efficient, and they save space; having wires hanging all over the place is very inconvenient
when considering portability and function. Also the keyboard would have to be pretty large, as
it is much easier to type papers on a large keyboard. To go along with the size of the keyboard, it
should also be back lit. There are many times when it is more comfortable to work in the dark,
and without a back lit keyboard typing in the dark is going to be a major strain on your eyes and
patience. To re cap, the type of keyboard that I would choose would have to be comfortable to
type on, have a back lit keyboard, and in the case of not being already attached to the PC I would
want to be connected via Bluetooth. The next type of input that I would consider for my PC is a
computer mouse. This is another very important piece of equipment, and a lot of times it is one of
the under considered pieces when it comes to choosing input equipment. There are not a lot of
different types of mice to compare and consider, but choosing the right type of mouse is going to be
an important factor in how much enjoyment and efficiency that you are going to receive from your
PC. There are three different types of basic computer mice: optical mouse, mechanical mouse, and
Infrared or radio wave cordless mouse. A mechanical mouse has a ball attached inside of the bottom
of the base, when the mouse is

Swedish Food In Northern Europe
So what exactly is Swedish food? Many may think of fish and Swedish meatballs. Scandinavia is
a part of Northern Europe surrounded by the Baltic Sea; this includes Sweden, Finland, and
Norway. Knowing the history of the region explains a lot about the foods that still exist there
today. Vikings who inhabited the area were some of the first people to develop food preservation
methods. By salting, dehydrating, and curing the fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish, the warriors
were able to spend less time hunting and gathering, and more time invading territories as far south
as the Mediterranean. Since they traveled so far, cooking influences from all over Europe are still
apparent in the modern Swedish diet. This includes German pastries, French soups, and English

Traditionally, a smörgåsbord would consist of different types of fish like smoked salmon,
herring, and lutefisk (reserved for Christmas only), meats such as beef and even moose, vegetables,
new potatoes, and of course, breads and cheeses. During lunch, it is common to see

My Experience With The Common Kings Concert
It was just your average beautiful Saturday morning. Waking up that morning I had the intention
that it would be just a good, chill, laid back type of day. I go to unlock my phone and notice my
phone going crazy with texts. My friends all decided to go to a concert. Not any ordinary
concert, the Common Kings concert. Common Kings was the type of band that made the feel
good type of music. Every time I would turn on their station my heart fills with happiness. With
no time to think, I immediately go to check their site if it was sold out show. My heart pumping
with excitement, I go to see that there are still tickets available to purchase! I quickly inform my
dad about this and he seemed to be just as excited as I was. With a solid hour or two to get
myself put together, I anxiously go and grab my phone and put their station on blast. In that
moment my heart was racing with such excitement. I quickly hop in the hot steamy shower
belting out to one of my favorite songs by them. In no time I was ready for one of the best nights
of my life. At around five in the evening my friends came by to pick me up. I said all my
farewells for the night to my family, hopped in the car, and we drove off. I couldn t even explain
my happiness level. I was on cloud nine. Belting out to the whole album on the way to the venue,
we drive through the beautiful city of roses. Roaming past the dazzling skyline Portland has to
offer, it makes me really appreciate the moment right then and there. To

Mandatory Voting In Canada
The civic issue that my point of view has changed on is the 1st speaker s issue for the second
speaker s corner reflection. The speaker s issue is that more Canadians need to vote. He states that
only about 60% of the citizens voted in the last federal election. He also continues and says that if
60% of the population is votingfor a government that is representing 100% of the population, you
can t really call that a truly democratically elected government anymore. By having more people to
vote, we can have a government that represents our country the best since everyone s opinions are
considered. This can allow our country to develop into an even greater country. The speaker
suggests that Canadashould introduce some form of mandatory voting legislation to encourage
people to vote. This civics issue is important to all Canadian citizens because our government

We will have to start a petition for voting to be compulsory. Since this is a huge issue that can t
just simply can t be changed, it will be hard. However, say if we need over half of Canada to
agree to mandatory voting, it can be possible. The 40% of the population who didn t vote will
probably not support mandatory voting because they don t want to vote. However, the other 60%
of the population who actually cares about our country will probably vote and that will be over
half. The federal government will be responsible for making the change. They are the ones who are
in charge of voting and elections. However, since Canada is a democratic country, even the federal
government can t fully control if voting is compulsory. The person who has the most amount of
say is the people. Even if the federal government wants mandatory government, if the citizens don t
want it, we won t have it, and vice versa. So to make this change, we will have to get the citizen s

Analysis Of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Voluptuous Vampire or Proper Prude
Written and set in the late 19th century, Bram Stoker s epistolary novel Dracula is a pivotal book
in gothic/horror literature. Like most novels written by men, Dracula appeals more to the male
audience and their fantasies and fears about women than to the Victorian Age woman. In the
novel, Lucy and Mina are the only two female characters the reader meets in detail, and they are
also the only two characters that are seen becoming vampires indeed, they are the only major
vampire characters, with the exception of the chief antagonist, who are described in detail within
the novel. Therefore it is clear that these two play a very important role in representing females in
the novel. Both characters are also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen when Van Helsing comments about Mina, She is one of God s women,
fashioned by His own hand to show us men and other women that there is a heaven where we can
enter, and that its light can be here on earth. So true, so sweet, so noble, so little an egoist and
that, let me tell you, is much in this age... ( 197 ). The fact that Stoker has chosen to include such
an important contrast between the two major characters so early in the novel suggests that it will
play an important part in the narrative. The reader later learns that this difference is essential to the
plot, as it is only Mina s purity and innocence that allows the group to defeat Dracula at the end of
the novel, and ultimately saves Mina from Lucy s fate. Lucy s part in the novel may be relatively
short, yet her role is essential to the audience s understanding of the novel s message about female
roles and female sexuality in Victorian society since she is the first victim of Count Dracula. At the
same time, Lucy is the only character whose transformation into a vampire Stoker describes in
detail:
At times she slept, and both Van Helsing and I noticed the difference in her, between sleeping and
waking. Whilst asleep she looked stronger, although more haggard and her breathing was softer; her
open mouth showed the pale

What Makes One Greek Culture
By the 600s and 500s BC, Greece had entered into its Archaic age, with advances in trade, warfare,
interstate interactions, and religious institutions converging to define a momentous era of this
culture s long history. Given the extent to which Greece, during these centuries, congealed into the
ancient society it is best remembered as today, it is necessary to ask the elusive question of what
makes one Greek? By this era, what made one Greek entailed a paradoxical strong value for
community coupled with a strong value for competitive individualism, a combination that is found
in religion, sports, writing, architecture, and other well known hallmarks of Greek culture. Religion
is probably the most obvious component of what constituted a common

Chinese Buddhism
Buddhism traveled from India through the Silk Road and Central Asia to northern China in the first
century C.E. At that time the Chinese believed in Confucian values also known as the Chinese
values. The conflict between these values continued through many ruling Chinese dynasties. There
were inherent differences between the Buddhist beliefs and practices and traditional Confucius
beliefs practiced by the Chinese. These differences are captured in the three sources which are

The passage articulated how increase in Buddhism has created more priests and temples at the cost
of work and family values. The spread of Buddhism lead to exhaustion of resources of the Empire
from 317 C.E through 557 C.E. Gigantic temples and monasteries were like Imperial palaces.
Huge amounts of money instead of going into farming and business went into building temples and
monasteries. Taizong the Imperial ancestor who ruled during the period 626 649 C.E built the
Middle Kingdom by governing his kingdom his accomplished learning and culture. He believed in
the power of state but he tried to balance both Buddhism and Chinese values. Zhenguan and
Gaiyuan, later instituted radical changes. The Buddhist enjoyed many privileges; they did not pay
taxes and were treated differently, which was detrimental to state. These values were at variance
with the Confucius values of general applicability of rules to all people within the state. By
confiscating land occupied by temples and monasteries and by bringing the monks into the

  • 2. Public Broadcasting History The concept of American public broadcasting: promoting diversity in TV and Radio The purpose of this paper is to re evaluate the history of American public broadcasting. Particularly this paper focuses on an important female political figure and two organizations that contributed to build the foundation of American public broadcasting. Analyzing each of their roles in building the principle of public broadcasting in the U.S. provides insights by which to consider the basics of media industries today. The educational broadcasting in the U.S. became known as public broadcasting. After the enactment of the Public Broadcasting Act in 1967, American educational broadcasting was established in the same year, shaping the dynamics of the non profit media sector in the U.S.. The basis of the public broadcasting system today is made up of non profit broadcasting stations that had been once faded away by the widespread of commercial broadcasting in the 1920s. Through the course of its development, there have been controversial discussions about the role of non profit educational broadcasting within media industries for long time. Stalin s Launch of the Great Terror Essays Stalin s Launch of the Great Terror The Great Terror of 1936 1938 came after a period of success, with the completion of the First Five Year Plan and the Peasants had been collectivised to make food for the workers in the factories. Yet there was still opposition to Stalin s leadership inside the party from Ryutin; Ryutin argued that Stalin should be removed from the position of General Secretary. Stalin then called for the execution of Ryutin (most communist did not believe in killing their own), Kirov, Stalin s supporter and the head of Leningrad headed the majority against the execution. This made Kirov very popular in the party and when there was a vote in the Central Congress for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also admitted to conspiring with Trotsky to destroy Communism this conspiracy was called the Trotskyite Zinovievite Conspiracy. The other Trials were in 1937 with Trotsky, but he was not in the country, yet they still said he was the lead conspiracer and a counter revolutionary. In 1938, Bukharin was put on trial, he admitted to nearly everything except, conspiring to plotting the murder of Lenin. These trials made the Russian people believe that there was a conspiracy going on and that anyone could be in on it. This made workers suspicious of anyone who did not produce as much as their fellow workers, this meant that everyone worked hard. This was a brilliant way of getting the workers to produce more to push crash industrialisation along, if there had not been the conspiracy theory then Russia would not have acted like a Totalitarian State and therefore not have been as productive. The theory scared the Russian people from even thinking anti communist thoughts in case they were taken away to labor camps. This fear gave total control to Stalin over all areas of Russia as no one wanted to be sent to the labor camps, so this was a very effective way of controlling the people of Russia. • 4. Is There A Role For Primary Prevention For Patients With... Is there a role for primary prevention for patients with asymptomatic hyperuricaemia? Indrajeet Mandal Gout is a very common disease in the UK, with 1 in 40 adults being affected by the condition (The Gout Society UK 2014). The prevalence of the condition has increased in the past few decades, and there is a greater disease burden in the more economically developed countries (Kuo et al. 2015). Uric Acid Gout: Physiology Gout is an arthropathy that involves the deposition of urate crystals into a joint. An acute gout attack involves deposition of joints into a joint, resulting in a painful, swollen joint that classically affects the first metatarsophalangeal joint, although can involve other joints as well. Figure 1: the natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2011), and these have been shown to be independent risk factors (Lin et al. 2000). Hyperuricaemia is associated with higher all cause mortality The classical hypothesis is that high uric acid levels lead to increased chance of crystals forming, which then deposit in the joints. However, recent evidence has started to suggest that hyperuricaemia itself is a risk factor for increased mortality from causes other than gout. A study carried out on Japanese men has shown that high serum uric acid has been linked with an increased relative risk of mortality from all causes in a study carried out on Japanese male workers (Tomita et al. 2000). An increased mortality raises the question of whether we should routinely prescribe primary prevention interventions in patients who are in the stage of asymptomatic hyperuricaemia. Early studies have shown that there is no significant increase in mortality from renal failure. A prospective study followed a cohort of 2046 initially healthy men and measured urate levels and the incidence of a raised serum creatinine (Campion et al. 1987). They concluded that there wasn t a significant rise in the creatinine level, and that there was no significant renal impairment caused hyperuricaemia, supporting a conservative treatment regimen. However, it is worth nothing that this measurement was done by correlation urate levels and creatine levels as the baseline creatinine varies from person to person, it could be argued that this is not ... • 5. Carnival Cruise Industry Introduction The cruise line industry has changed drastically over the past several years. What was once thought of as a luxury to most people, is now affordable and convenient. The industry now focuses on targeting the working middle class, as well as the upper class. One cruise line in particular, Carnival, has mastered the informal cruise for the mass market. Carnival offers numerous cruises that are inexpensive and exciting. Nevertheless, Carnival operates internationally with shipyards and ports all over the world. Being an international business, Carnival is affected by many global forces, both controllable and uncontrollable. Carnival also minimizes staffing costs by sourcing employees on a global basis. The employees are a key element to ensuring excellent customer service on the boats, therefore, customers will return satisfied. International Differences A few international differences affect the operations of cruise lines. Differences include political/legal, geographic, economic, or sociocultural. Since cruise lines are an international business, they are affected by these differences. Many cruise lines choose to flag their vessels in countries that have lower taxes and less stringent employment practices required by the laws of those countries (The Cruise). However, some governments may choose to subsidize the ship industry in order to secure contracts for their domestic firms. Many ships are built in order to be appealing to the eye, but with cruise ships going to so many different places, they have to be designed not only to accommodate the economic reality of the mass market, but also the cultural preferences of the clientele. Carnival designed seasonal cruises that sail to different destinations. The themes chosen are based on the locations the ship will be travelling to. Also, buffet options are available in order to provide a variety of food options for the customers and avoid cultural preferences. International Sales Effective marketing is crucial when selling cruises internationally. The majority of customers who board of a cruise ship are men and women from 18 50 ... • 6. Agnew Cyberbullying of all the female victims 39% felt frustrated, 36% felt angry and 25% felt sad about it, the males figures were 27%, 36% and 17% for each of those respective categories. Females seem to show high susceptibility to bullying than males. However, this is hardly surprising since males tend to admit emotional weakness less readily than their female counterparts do. Sociologist Robert Agnew developed the Great Strain Theory, which hypothesizes that victims of bullying can develop problematic emotions, which cause deviant behavior. The victimgoes through a vicious cycle and this can result to the victim developing antisocial behavior as they try to process their emotions and find an outlet for their anger and frustration (Hinduja and Patchin (2011). Bullying also takes a toll on the bully. Donegan (2012) reports over 60% of males with bullying tendencies between grade six and nine were later convicted of at least one crime in their adult life. This is in comparison to 23% of people who did not bully. Black Men And The American Civil Liberties Union According to to the American Civil Liberties Union, California s research shows that black men are three times more likely to be stopped and frisked than whites. (Quigley) Some may say that this topic is based on nothing but opinions. That is not true. There are facts behind the accusations made by so many people accusing law enforcement agents of being racist. The job of law enforcement is to serve and protect the people, showing no bias towards any specific race, but this is not always the case. While many think this is a perfect world where there is no racism, the reality is that everywhere in the world there is at least one person who is racist. This statistic shows that the officers of the NYPD are judging blacks and assuming they are guilty before they even gather enough evidence. When black people are arrested, they receive ten percent longer sentences than white offenders, says the US Sentencing Commission, for the same crime. An obvious example of bias against black men is to incarcerate black men in jail for longer periods of time simply because of race. This is clearly a problem in the legal systems of the US. Eventually someone will get harmed in the middle of this racial discrimination. (Quigley) On August 4th, 2014, an eighteen year old boy by the name of Michael Brown was killed by Darren Wilson. Mr. Wilson was an officer of the Ferguson Police Department. He was a twenty eight year old white male and was accused of killing Michael out of racial hatred. This case was examined but not enough evidence was accumulated to charge Mr. Wilson with the murder of Michael (Moylan). This act of violence touched many people s hearts but made many people angry. It was thought that the FPD was being racist when Michael was killed because of statistic after the investigation. The arrest rate in seven felonies in the FDP decreased by over fifty percent and the police commissioner stated that overall crime decreased. • 9. S 1st Symphony And Lord Chandos Letter And Schnitzler s... Jaehun Lee 12/4/17 3rd Writing Assignment At the end of the 19th century, fin de siГЁcle did not just indicate the end of one century: it indicated the collapse of language and a way of thinking. This idea was illustrated by works such as von Hofmannstahl s Lord Chandos Letter and Schnitzler s Dream Story, which seem to argue that a new mode of thinking was necessary for a new age. Indeed, Freud s writings and Trakl s poems offered this new mode of thinking by challenging the border between what is real and what is imaginary through their works. In music and art, a similar trend was taking place: late 19th century works offered the audience a window into the artist s emotions, experiences, and desires. This idea is seen in Gustav Mahler s 1st Symphony and Egon Schiele s Seated Male Nude, in which both artists channel their experiences and emotions to release suppressed elements of their psyches. However, the purpose for their expressivity is different: Mahler s expressivity stems from a desire to find relief from mental stress stemming from his turbulent life, Schiele s from a desire to explore new ways of conveying the self. Mahler s 1st Symphony holds an intimate relationship with his childhood and upbringing; the music reflects and reveals Mahler s experiences and desires for what his future will look like. From the beginning of his 1st Symphony, Mahler paints a vast, open space with the string s sustained, unison A. Various musical figures in the beginning of the 1st ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Depicts the fascinating life of a play boy protagonist who has a perfect lifestyle and has everything that one could ever imagine, yet despite him being a out most perfect individual at the end of the story he commits suicide. The poet was influenced with the interpretation towards how many individuals in this world can assume that those who are greater always seem to have an outstanding life. As a young boy Robinson wrote to his dear friend at the ageof six, questioning why he was born introducing a great element to his poems because at a very young age his life was tremendously bleak. Throughout the story the poet utilizes various methods of figurative language such as irony, point of view, and metaphors to introduce such elements of how life can be so great but despite it being great others can assume that you re happy but no one really knows what you re enduring. In this paragraph the poet demonstrates the emotions that the residentsfeel when they re around the protagonist. Robinson implies third person point of view as we thought that he was everything. To make us wish that we were in his place. allowing the readers to comprehend that the protagonist was more than just a typical normal resident in their neighborhood. Also conveying that those who surrounded him were below their noble class that to them he was seen as Clean favored, imperially slim. informing the readers that he was seen as royalty. Despite the residents admiring his presence, he was always filled with a fluorescent personality. The poet introduces this element he fluttered pulses when he says, Good morning allowing the readers to understand that not just his physique was out standing but the way he had proper manners to say Goodmorning to those that surrounded him. The poet allows the comprehension that the protagonist has always been an outstanding individual. Although the author describes the emotions that the residents have towards him they still envy him in the way that they describe him more then what would be expected. This situation is dependent on a good system of government, and this is the manner in which Aristotle transitions to Politics. Here, Aristotle expresses the need for the political leadership to work in liaison with the community to embrace virtuous living. The religious life in the Roman world experienced a lot of transformations with time. The changes can be observed through the literature depending on when it was written. For instance, some revolutions are noticeable in Book 6 of Virgil s Aeneid and Apuleius s The Golden Ass. Book 6 of Aeneid is a sort of prophecy as Virgil gives an account of Aeneas journey to the Underworld. The author s imagination gives an insight into the nature of punishments for sin and that lack of adherence to the virtues of the religion results in dire consequences. One instance of this is when immediately after meeting with Bel imperia, Hieronimo is suddenly able to initiate his revenge, whereas previously his attempts had been futile. Throughout English Renaissance plays, women of beauty are not only desired, but also symbolize who has power, authority, and agency. The neo noir movies Fight Club (1999) and Memento (2001) illustrate a reality, as seen by the protagonists. However, what exactly is reality? This issue is employed skilfully in both Fight Club and Memento, which makes them interesting to watch and analyse. The Usual Suspects, another neo noir film, also employs the issue reality in the narrativebut, it differs from Fight Club and Memento, as reality is twisted by intention. This critical essay will take a look at the different causes for a distorted reality, how the protagonists receive reality, the use of narrative to create a distorted reality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These twists lets one question everything that just happened. In Fight Club, the narrator finds out that Tyler Durden is not another men, but him. This changes the whole context. The audience has no idea that Tyler Durden is the narrator, as they are most likely captivated by his chaotic, sociopathic and masculine character. Once finding out the truth, one needs to rethink the entire film. Every scene has a different meaning once finding out that Tyler and the narrator are one. In Memento Leonard is confronted by Teddy a cop and his friend that Sammy Jankis the men Leonard often talks about is actually him. He tells Leonard that he has been lying to himself in order to be happy and that he is chasing a men who he believes is John G. Teddy furthermore suggests that actually has created a different reality in which he is chasing John G, in order to cope with the fact that his condition killed his wife. When Leonard later gets in his car and askes himself Do I lie to myself to be happy? (Memento, 2000), which he admits, a distortion in reality is justified by himself. He then makes Teddy the new John G, which changes the way the audience looks at Leonard. To conclude, both Fight Club and Memento use an unconventional narrative structure and tell thrilling stories. Throughout the church there was varying opinions of the explosion and the war itself. Some people believed that the war would be necessary, while others believed there was no need for a war. IN an editorial from a New York Methodist newspaper in April 1898: Should we now go to war, insisted the Syracuse Northern Christian Advocate, our cause will be just, and Methodismwill be ready to do its full duty. Every Methodist preacher will be a recruiting officer (Shankman, 1973). However, in the south, the Southern Christian Advocate pushed for people to help send aid to the Cubans that are refugees and on the island; some groups even set up soup kitchens and churches donated some money as charity. These opinions helped spread the divide after the attack on the Maine: Generally, the Methodist press advised that rash accusations were unjust and foolish. The Nashville Christian Advocate suspected that the explosion had been the work of a misguided Spaniard or resulted from a fire on the Maine, and it thought that all premature judgments on the cause of the sinking did more harm than good. (Shankman, 1973) That view did not last long, by April 14 it was believed that the sinking of the USS Maine was not a mere accident, The Atlanta Wesleyan Christian Advocate first believed that Spanish perfidy had caused the catastrophe but later decided some hotheads ... They believed a person s monetary worth on Earth was over, and they should take all of that earthly worth with them to the afterlife. Modern day Americans are different from the Egyptians. Fear And Trembling Kierkegaard Kierkegaard claims that, Infinite resignation is the last stage before faith, so anyone who has not made this movement does not have faith, for only in infinite resignation does an individual become conscious of his eternal validity, and only then can one speak of grasping existence by virtue of faith, (page 52). This idea is demonstrated when Abraham surrenders himself to his fate and surrenders the life of his son to God. This infinite resignation is the reason God grants Abraham his son s life because he proves his eternal love and faith in God, by his willingness to sacrifice Isaac. Faith is put to the test when Abraham must sacrifice what he loves most to prove his love to God, while Antonius Block suffers from a similar problem of giving faith to God, which seems hopeless and invisible. Poe s writings are not without morals, and as a representation of a guilty conscience, The Tell Tale Heart has been called one of the most effective parables ever conceived (Ward 310). I find it almost impossible to believe that Poe has no serious or artistic motive in The Tell Tale Heart, that he merely revels in horror and only inadvertently illuminates the depths of the human soul, James Gargano asserts. He further states that though Poe s stories sometimes seem to be nothing more than ramblings of crazed narrators, the structure, development, arrangement, and irony of the narrator s confessions allow Poe to offer ideas which the narrators themselves never actually possessed ( The Question 328). For example, the narrator is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the second erroneous theory, another influence to the narrator s madness is the similarity between himself and his victim. The gaze of the evil eye is duplicated in the dim ray of light from the lantern, and the narrator and victim both remain completely still in the dark, not moving a muscle, listening. Other sensory details connect the two until they seem to be the same person, and since the narrator wishes to destroy himself, he murders the old man (Robinson 258 59). These assertions that time and unity with the old man are the two pivotal motifs driving the narrator to murder are mistaken. Time plays a different role in relation to the dastardly plot, and the murder has nothing to do with the old man himself, only his eye. The extension of time in the story is only a result of the narrator s caution in his preparations for the murder. The prolonging of time does not cause the narrator grief and certainly does not drive him to homicide. In fact, his slow movements were intentional. I moved it slowly very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old man s sleep (46). The narrator says these words, referring to thrusting his head through the doorway to look into the old man s bedroom. They did have it translated on the screen, but something happened to the projector and the lyrics were lost about half way through the first piece. This made it very hard to follow exactly what was going on in the song. Yes, the lyrics were also in the booklet that we had, but I personally did not want to be staring inside of a book. These challenges then lead to problem solving which results to change thus new trends are formed. It is thus of great importance to discuss the macro issues responsible for bringing about these trends. These may include changes in technology. Japan is among the leading countries when it comes to science and technology; this puts Japan in a situation where it is ever changing in terms of infrastructure and developments. Technology brings about new ideas into reality, this leads to the organizations having to draft new ways to adopt. When organizations are training their employees, the emerging trends do not allow them to leave technology behind; this includes the use of mobile phones and online training. The result is increased efficiency in work. The organization will tend to undertake those projects that are useful, and resourceful, hence it will easily adapt to changes brought about by technology. There is no possible way for someone to claim they are in relation to Adam based off of a supposed source of evidence. Nevertheless, that does not give any man to abuse his equality over another mans equality, the naturalness of law still continues in a state of nature. In the bible it states that everyone is equal unless God says otherwise. He also goes into detail about how we as humans have no right to destroy our bodies, for example suicide. Locke claims that we are all independent beings so we should all take value to our lives. He also claims that no one else should harm any other person s possessions, health or liberty, simply because that bible says so. As for law breakers, Locke states that anyone who commits a crime, the law is subjected to punish lawbreakers as sternly as needed. The punishment of a crime is only acceptable if the consequences are equal to the crime committed. And if such a crime is committed and the consequences should follow, punish them unto the law not unto your own will.
