ABOUT THE THEORY

This theory has been attributed to the works of Howard Gardner (1984)
He examines 7 different “abilities” or “intelligences” which are largely independent
   of each other
Gardner believes we all navigate the world through these intelligences
This implies that students possess different abilities therefore
   learn, remember, perform and understand in different ways
He challenges the assumption that everyone can learn in the some way
Garner proposes students should be exposed to study materials in a variety of ways
Assessment of knowledge should also be conducted through multiple methods.
THE BIG 7
1.   Linguistic Intelligence
2.   Musical Intelligence
3.   Logical-Mathematical Intelligence
4.   Spatial Intelligence
5.   Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence
6.   Intra-Personal Intelligence
7.   Inter-Personal Intelligence


**Individuals differ in the strength of these intelligences
CLASSROOM USE
-Use “big 7” in planning classroom activities.
-Rotate using each of the strategies to suit every learner in the class.
-Take into account each type of learner.
EXAMPLES OF EACH IN CLASSROOM
-Linguistic Intelligence- “one-minute” papers
-Musical intelligence- write a rap about something important to you
-Logical-mathematical-Sudoku
-Spatial-Create a map from school to your house
-Bodily-kinisthetic- have students stand everytime a statement in a review
   is true, and sit when false

ABOUT THE THEORY This theory has been attributed to the works of Howard Gardner (1984) He examines 7 different “abilities” or “intelligences” which are largely independent of each other Gardner believes we all navigate the world through these intelligences This implies that students possess different abilities therefore learn, remember, perform and understand in different ways He challenges the assumption that everyone can learn in the some way Garner proposes students should be exposed to study materials in a variety of ways Assessment of knowledge should also be conducted through multiple methods.

  • 5. CLASSROOM USE -Use “big 7” in planning classroom activities. -Rotate using each of the strategies to suit every learner in the class. -Take into account each type of learner.

EXAMPLES OF EACH IN CLASSROOM -Linguistic Intelligence- “one-minute” papers -Musical intelligence- write a rap about something important to you -Logical-mathematical-Sudoku -Spatial-Create a map from school to your house -Bodily-kinisthetic- have students stand everytime a statement in a review is true, and sit when false
