suggestion, which I fully support. Nowadays, family life has changed. Many mothers are
working to help support the family. The income that many fathers bring home is insufficient to
make ends meet. Mothers today are working to provide the financial support towards the family
institution.
With working mothers joining the workforce, many children are left behind under the
care of their grandparents, babysitters or even foreign maids. Therefore, children have attention
and care from their own mothers because of their involvement in the workforce. We often hear
of cases child abuse by babysitter or maids. These happen because children have little contact
hour with their own mothers. Most mothers are too absorbed with office work that they have
little time to tend to their children. If working mothers are given the green light to take no pay
leave in order to take care of their families, I am positive that cases of child abuse might reduce.
By allowing mothers to take no pay leave, the gap between children and mothers can be
bridged. Mothers can spend ample time at home with their children to educate them and
highlight to the ways to solve problems. Mothers by nature are affectionate and understanding
than fathers. They are good listeners and hence are able to guide and counsel their children. This
opens doors to enhance good relationship between the mother and the child.
Some children are just too young to be left under the care of child tenders like a
babysitter or a maid. Babies, infants and toddlers are inclined to their mothers during their
infancy stage. Therefore, it is good that mothers be giving no pay leaves so that they can
breastfeed the child and give the baby the best that they can during the early stage of growing up.
The increase in social problem has caused many mothers to be blamed for not bringing
up the children well. Cases of truancy in schools, vandalism, gangsterism and other social ills
can be reduced if mothers pay more attention to their children. Many children lack the care and
attention that mothers can give them. Hence it is good that mothers be giving the opportunity to
pay their roles well before society puts the blame on them.
Working mothers should be giving an opportunity to take care of their children, to guide
them in this challenging world, to help them face the future. They should stay at home so that
they are in touch with the needs of their children. As such, I am in favour of proposing that
working mothers be giving no pay leave to be with their children when they need to fulfill their
duties and obligations.
