Conservation efforts in Malaysia have done little to protect wildlife, with more species slipping closer to extinction each day. A survey found 911 total threatened species in Malaysia, including 50 mammal, 47 fish, 46 amphibian, 40 bird, 21 reptile, 19 mollusc, and 2 other invertebrate species. Poaching for medicinal uses and ornamental purposes are key factors threatening wildlife. Local palm oil production in Malaysia saw a marked increase in 2003 compared to previous years, with higher exports especially to China and India, likely due to increased global demand and improved estate management practices.

ABSTRACT- The many exotic species introduction has been causing chaos in biological world as they turned in to invasive species by making interspecific competition stronger mentioned by Darwin in theory of natural selection. Effect of Parthenium spp. of plant and Clarias gariepinus of fish in India has been one of the problems in the same terms. In the present study we have noted the effect of a new exotic animal emu Dromaius novaehollandiae, fish Clarias gariepinus and plant Parthenium spp. collectively in the region, indicating its effect on other life forms because of absence of natural predators for the same.

Are edible insects the next sustainable source of proteins challenges in the ...foodresearch
Animal-based products, such as meat and milk, deliver primary nutritional components around the globe. To handle the rapidly growing population and to sustain global food production by keeping an account of the carbon emissions during this process is proving to be quite challenging. One of the potential alternative sources of proteins is edible insects with protein content ranged from 35% to 61%, lipids (13-33%) and contains significant amount of animal fiber in form of insoluble chitin. Insects are a part of the human diet in many cultures in different countries. However, entomophagy is not promoted widely even by many international organizations. The common popular insects fall into these categories, beetles, bees, caterpillars, ants, wasps, locusts, crickets, leafhoppers and grasshoppers, true bugs, termites, dragonflies and flies.
Are the insects eating could be the future?
As a consumer, we should be aware of entomophagy, and the insect rearing might become a necessity in the future. Some consumers in different countries are willing to pay a premium price as street foods are sold in hygienic conditions. Entomophagy is revalidated from time to time with the help of worldwide campaigns in countries suffering from acute food shortages. The global strategy is to maintain sustainable food security for everyone.
Food Research Lab can help you solve these problems related to the formulation of food products with edible insects. FRL is for food and nutraceutical manufacturers as well as those companies involved in NPD and developing spec without manufacturing. FRL gives you the ability to improve all phases and aspects of new product development, such as original specification, ideation, shelf-life, and packaging. Additionally, you can get them out to market quicker than ever before.

World Tapir Day is celebrated annually on April 27th to raise awareness about tapirs and their conservation status. Tapirs are a group of large, herbivorous mammals that are found in Central and South America, as well as in Southeast Asia. There are four species of tapirs: the Baird's tapir, the Brazilian tapir, the Malayan tapir, and the mountain tapir. Unfortunately, all four species of tapirs are currently listed as either endangered or vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), making World Tapir Day an important occasion to spread awareness about their plight.
Animal are multicellular, eukaryotic organisms in the biological kingdom Animalia. With few exceptions, consume natural material, breathe oxygen, are able to move, can reproduce sexually, and develop from a hole sphere of cells, the blastula, during embryonic development. Most residing animal species are in Bilateria, a clade whose individuals have a bilaterally symmetric body plan.
Culture strategies, diseases and their mitigations in mono-sex Nile tilapia f...AbdullaAlAsif1
A survey was carried out to investigate culture strategies, disease patterns and mitigations in mono-sex Nile tilapia in Jessore sadar region. Data obtained by questionnaire interview, individual interview, telephonic interview, PRA method, mono-sex Nile tilapia farm survey from four villages. It was observed that 30.769% farmers and farm owner had no training about culture of mono-sex Nile tilapia while 69.230% farmers and farm owner received short term training from different Department of Fisheries, different NGOs. Mono-sex Nile tilapia culture in ponds was basically a three-tier culture system. Pre-stocking management of ponds in the study area comprised dike repairing, aquatic weed control, waste soil removal and undesirable species (predator and trash fish) control. Majority (85%) of the farm owners and farmers depends on ground water and only (15%) depends on surface water. About 95% of farm of farm owners controlled aquatic weeds manually. Removal of predatory and undesired fish from pond used different types of chemicals but most used rotenone (80%). Fertilizer of pond preparation (Organic and inorganic) in the study area but mostly used cases inorganic fertilizers had applied at the rate of urea 114 kg/ha and triple superphosphate 60 kg/ha in 4-5 installments. Stocking density of mono-sex Nile tilapia was 200-380 fry per decimal. It was recorded that 85% of mono-sex Nile tilapia farmers and farm owner applied supplementary such as commercially manufactured feed and 12% are applied of farm made feed. It was observed, they provided heavy fertilizer, high stocking density, over feed provided, provided over dose drugs so ultimated result of disease occured. Parasitic related disease, bacterial diseases, fungal diseases, viral diseases were attacked in mono-sex Nile tilapia. Argulosis and Streptococcus were mostly common disease in this mono-sex Nile tilapia farm.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Report on Threatened Species in Malaysia
Conservation efforts have been carried out to protect the wildlife in Malaysia. However,
the efforts of these conservationists are turning on deaf ears. Each day, more and more species
have slipped nearer to the brink extinction.
From a survey conducted on the threatened species in Malaysia, a total of 911 species are
undergoing extinction. From the overall total, 50 species that are threatened are mammals, 47
species are fishes, 46 species are amphibians, 40 species are birds, 21 species are reptiles, 19
species are molluscs and 2 species are other invertebrates. There are reasons for this wildlife to
be threatened.
Conservationists believe that one of the factors threatening wildlife is poaching. Poachers
hunt them, as they are valuable. The wildlife can fetch a good price in the black market. Other
reasons are due to the medicinal values that traditional believers that they can get from the
consumption and usage of the threatened species such they are mammals, plants, fishes or even
reptiles. Some people like to get these threatened species for they can be converted into
ornaments or decorations.
2. In years to come, when all the threatened species become extinct, it is very likely that the
future generation will only be able to see them as pictures in books and CDs. Therefore, we
protect these species before none exist in Malaysia. (221 words)

You are a member of your school canteen committee. You have been asked to write a short
article on the type of food preferred by students in your school. Your article should integrate all
the information below. You should write at least 150 words.
Favourute Girls Boys
Fast food 55% 78%
Rice 45% 88%
Noodle 80% 80%
Fruits & salads 89% 30%
KUALA LUMPUR, Tues. – Teenagers today are choosy about their food. They often complain over the
food sold in their school canteens.
Suggested answer
Today’s teenagers are very choosy about the food they eat. Girls are more conscious about their
looks and they would resort to eating food that is low calories. Boys on the other hand use up
more energy. Therefore, they prefer to eat food rich in carbohydrates.
The table shows that favourite food among the opposite sexes. A majority of the girls like
to eat fruits and salads. They prefer to eat noodles as the next preferred choice, followed by fast
food and rice. However, boys prefer to eat more rice to fruits and salads. Next, they would rather
eat noodles, followed by fast food and their least favourite food ate fruits and salads.
The food that teenagers consume each day has a dramatic impact on their lifestyle and
health. Most of the food consumed by them is salad in the school canteen. A majority of students
consume foods that are rice in fats and carbohydrates. Many of the teenagers do not ensure that
they take in food rice in fibre and vitamins such as salads and fruits. They do not take in a
balance meal. They only focus on energy given food. (192 words)

3. Using the information given in the pie-charts, graph and the newspaper excerpt, write a report for
a business magazine on Malaysia’s Palm Oil Exports in 2002 and 2003. In your report, comment
on the marked increase in local palm oil production till September 2003. You should write at
least 150 words.
Suggested answer
Report on Malaysia’s Palm Oil Exports and Production (2001-2003)
Malaysia exports palm oil to countries like China, India, the European Union, Pakistan, Egypt,
Singapore and Japan. The top buyers of Malaysia’s palm oil are China and India. In the year
2002, China bought 16.6% of Malaysia’s palm oil. There was an increasing of 3.3% in 2003.
India bought 15.2% in 2002 but only13.6% in 2003. China and India are the main buyers
considering their large populations and fast-growing economies. There is very minimal change in
the increase or decrease of exports to the other countries. For example, Malaysia exported 13.5%
of her palm oil to the European Union in 2002. In 2003, it was 13.4%. The others were Pakistan,
9.9% in 2002 but 9.5% in 2003, Egypt, 4.9% in 2002 and 5.1% in 2003, Singapore, 4.1% in 2002
and 3.8% in 2003, Japan, 3.5% in 2002 and 3.6% in 2003. Other countries decreased their import
of palm oil by 1.2% in 2003.
The monthly production trend of crude palm oil 2001 to September 2003 is depicted in
the bar graph. Production of Malaysia’s crude palm oil is steadily on the rise. Take for example,
in the month of March 2001, production was about 800,000 tonnes, it’s was stagnant in 2002
(March) but in 2003, production increased by 100,000 tonnes. There was a marked increase in
the year 2003. Local palm oil production was markedly higher in the year 2003. This may be due
to aggressive replanting of oil palm and new planting in recent years. Moreover, the marked
increase can also be attributed to the higher demands by China and India in general the world. It
could also be due to better management of the estates by private owners and companies.
