Child Labor During The Progressive Era
During the progressive era the conditions of the factories that children worked in were extremely
brutal. Children Worked in very hot factories and some were only at the age of 4 ( Child Labor
Britannica). The reason factories were hot were because there were so many children confined in
the factories. This means that there were sweaty, hot children working 16 hours a day. In the book
Children at work, there was a child working at a furniture factoryand he had dozens of infected
wood splints. This is bad because it shows how cruel people were to children during the
progressive era. This affected children modern days because if child labor kept on going on
children would not be able to attend as often much school as they do now.

The Children And Their Primary Schools Report
The children and their primary schools report, also known as the Plowden Report, was published
in 1967 by the Central Advisory Council and written by Bridget Plowden. The aim of the report
was to consider Primary Education in all of its aspects and the transition from primary to secondary
education. The Report took four years to write and was published just after the post Second World
War. At this time many people believed that environmental influences played a significant role in
the development of students. (Bartlett et al., 2001).
The Plowden documented different recommendations into how children should be taught and
strongly emphasised the importance of the first 6years of a child s education. The report also looked
closely at any social inequalities that might affect the child s learning such as family size and/or
overcrowding. The Plowden also had a major influence on today s education, it introduced a new
style of teaching and learning, that hadn t been used before. Before the report was published,
education was taught in a very traditional and didactic way of the teacher standing at the front of
the class and sharing their knowledge to the children who expected to just listen and take in the
information. However after its publication the way in which children was taught became very child
centred with them becoming more involved in their learning and the lessons were adapted in a way
that would benefit and interest the child as the Plowden states that .Many people

Slow growth for Internet Based retailing
The growth of online retailing is quite slow in United States of America as compare to European
countries. There are very limited online services have been adopted by retailers in United States
of America. The big retailers of country have given just one option to their customer is that just
buy products online but pick yourself from your selected store. Such services are available on
sites of Wal Mart, Delhaize and Meijer etc. The main reason of having slow growth of online
retailers is the delivery cost of groceries items and limited areas of delivery. There are two
famous online retailers, Peapod and Fresh Direct. They have expanded their delivery areas. The
management of Peapod is planning to provide their services of smartphones and social media
sites by developing unique app. The business of online retailing can be expanded if they target
young population of country who are more familiar with technology on daily basis as compare to
their elders. There are five areas where Convenient Grocery Stores can bring change in online retail

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Is A State Agency Of...
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is a state agency of the state of Tennessee. Their goal is
to manage the states fish and wildlife population and also to enforce the wildlife related laws of the
state. They help to protect and preserve the right to hunt not only for the present time, but also for
the future. In just this past year, the agency has established some new regulations that have caused
an uproar in the huntingcommunity. The two rules which have been headlined in most
conversations is the new two buck limit for the states hunting season, and the new antler
restrictions on what is considered a buck. Due to the success of many other states with fewer
buck limits, TWRA has established these rules. These new rules are designed to have long term
affects on not only hunters, but also possibly the whole state for years to come. While there may
be a lot of good that may come from these new changes, there also may be a negative impact
hidden between the lines. These rules have been designed to increase the amount of trophy deerin
the state, increase the amount of doe kills in the state, and also to truly make hunters picky about
what they shoot. The ultimate dream of nearly all outdoorsmen in the United Statesof America
today is to kill a mature old whitetail buck, and these chances have been very few and far
between in the state of Tennessee in the past. In order for a male whitetail deer to grow into, what
some might call, a trophy buck, it will take a

Les Miserables Redemption Essay
In the novel Les Miserables, Victor Hugo utilizes various redemptive acts to prove that redemption
impacts both the redeemed and the redeemer.
The theme of redemption appears countless times in the novel to emphasize the freedom, relief, and
healthy change that occurs when a person is redeemed. In the novel, Jean
Valjean redeems Javertby letting him go free from the barricade instead of killing him. Javert, the
determined policeman who is out to get Jean Valjeanbecomes overwhelmed by the generosity that
the ex convict displayed to him. Javert s overwhelmed state of being is recognized when the
conflicted man begins to struggle with the fact that he has started to admire a convict. Jean Valjean,

It was playground time, and the happy surroundings suddenly vanished as Beth menacingly
approached me. The grimace on the girl s face was the perfect representation of her feelings for
me, utter hatred and contempt. As the tall, blonde girl moved closer at a stealthy pace I prepared
myself for what was to come; the same phrase that Beth sneered at me every day on the
playground at day care, I don t like you, Graceanne! Although Beth s hurtful remark had become
extremely routine, my heart felt a sharp pain every time she approached me with that hateful
grimace on her face. Usually I would ignore the hateful remark and walk away as if I had heard
nothing, but today was a different day. A new day with redemption at the utmost center.
As Beth approached me and uttered the daily phrase I don t like you, Graceanne I immediately
responded with words that made the grimace on Beth s face vanish forever, I like you, Beth.
The redemption that Jean Valjean lavished upon Javert is extremely similar to the redemption that I
gave to Beth. The hurtful remarks that Beth hit me with every day impacted

Should Companies Invest in Virtual Mentors?
Turbocharge your career by cultivating multiple channels for information flow
Having a mentor has always helped with professional development and career advancement, but
in today s complex workplace, one mentor won t do. To spark innovation and ideapreneurship,
employees often require relevant information on multiple areas of expertise in real time. That s
why there is a need for multiple mentors and expertise from various domains. The good news is
the rapid expansion of social media inside and outside companies has made it possible for aspiring
leaders to hone their craft from the very best experts in many domains via the internet or
Knowledge Management (KM) systems. They can become your virtual mentors.
That is the finding of a study we conducted (financially supported by The SHRM Foundation) of
HCL Technologies (HCL). The India based IT consulting organization, has over 103,696
employees distributed globally across its very own delivery centers and client sites. HCL
encourages them to use the KM and social collaboration system, internally referred to as Ask HCL,

Willy Loman As A Modern Tragedy Analysis
The definition of a modern tragedy is ordinary people in tragic situations. Death of a Salesman
the play by Arthur Miller demonstrates this theme. The main character, Willy Loman, is a
salesman who created his own tragedy. He had a poor moral compass which lead him to make
the wrong decisions. Also, he was unable to recognize his flaws in his personality. Finally, Willy
had not in any way developed the proper coping abilities to help him handle his problems properly.
Willy was living a modern tragedydue to nothing other than his moralweaknesses, tragic flaws and
his inability to cope with unfavourable circumstances.
Willy had a poor moral compass. He knew right from wrong yet he always acted on the wrong
decision. For 32 years Linda and Willy were married and Willy still cheated on her. When in a
marriage cheating is one of the worst deeds a person could do. Considering that a marriage binds
the bond of love between 2 people until the death. Cheating in a relationship can happen in many
types of forms. Willy cheated in a physical way. She s nothing to me, Biff I was lonely, I was
terribly lonely (Miller 95) When Willy used to go on business trips in Boston he acquired a
mistress. He thought that no one would find out. When Biff knew that he wasn t going to graduate
high school because he failed a math test he wanted to tell Willy in person. Biff surprised Willy at
the hotel he was staying in. Unfortunately, Willy was with the mistress at the time and Biff saw

Quality of Judicial Performance
The quality of judicial performance Quality of judicial performance The performance of judges
can be measured, generally speaking, by the ability of the judges. There are some methods used
to measure the performances of judges for this purpose. These include a review of the past
performance of the judges. Here, the judges are gauged according to citations to prior judgments,
affirmation of the judges by higher courts and the ability to produce and put pressure. The judges
may also be measured by their native talents and experiences whereby issues of the number of
years a particular judge has been working at the lower courts and the quality of the law school they
might have attended. Another measure for the quality of judges is depreciating ability; some judges
performance may decline due to cognitive impairments, while others may gain experience over
time. These measures are geared towards ensuring that a high quality of judicial performance is
guaranteed and maintained (Choi et al, 2011). Absolute immunity Absolute immunity involves
protection of government officials from legal action. This protection though does not include the
intentional or malicious engagement in criminal acts by the officer. For example, in the case of
King v. Simpson (1999), the parole board members were given absolute immunity to deny or grant
parole (Alarid Carmen, 2010). Qualified immunity This type of immunity focuses more on the
executive officers and exonerates any wrong doing by the

Horror Narrative Essay
The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most
connected with that of ridiculousness. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its
audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody
deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film
and theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is
trying to convey to the audience. Even when writers layer the genre with academic thoughts on
psychology, theology and the world in which we live in, horror remains the primary outlet to

Films such as Carrie (DePalma 1976), Misery (Reiner 1990), Evil Dead (Raimi 1981), The Exorcist
(Friedkin 1973), The Birds (Hitchcock 1963) have all been made into stage productions; treading
the boards as a Broadway Musical or as serious drama. These adaptations have gained cult
followings and mixed reviews.
In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. Productions of Fatal
Attraction (Dearden 2014), American Psycho (Aguirre Sacasa 2013), Let the Right One In
(Thorne 2013), Woman in Black (Mallatratt 1987) and Ghost stories (Dyson Nyman 2012) will

cinema, it can actually outdo it as it can carry a blow that is extremely intensified because it is
live. The question for the stage though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage
without the magic of high expensive technical effects?
Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder
and revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage.
In modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol,
which presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed

Essay about Deep Sea Fish Adaptions
The discoverer of the titanic, Dr Robert Ballard famously referred to the deep sea as far more
alien than going to mars or the moon. The deep sea is one of the largest virtually unexplored
ecosystems on the planet; it is found at a depth of 1000 fathoms [1] and is subject to adverse
changes in temperature, pressure and light penetration amongst other factors. Therefore as expected
fishdecrease in abundance, and species diversity. This trend is prominent as in order to survive the
harsh conditions of the deep sea, fish need a number of specific adaptations. Allowing them to
ultimately survive, feed, and reproduce.

The viper fish (shown in figure 1) possesses large eyes to catch the little light present. This helps
them to locate prey as well as avoid predators. [4] Light cannot penetrate any deeper than the
epipelagic layer, therefore the only light present is that produced from the inhabitants themselves. A
percentage of deep sea fish are able to create light through the chemical reaction; bioluminescence.
Most of the light created by marine organisms is blue green in colour. As blue light travels best in
water and most marine organisms are sensitive to blue light. [6] Anglerfish produces the chemical
luciferin which reacts with oxygen to create light. The light helps species communicate, attract a
mate or prey, or deter predators. As the bioluminescent lure is believe to mimic the movements of

The Pros And Cons Of The Patriot Act
After the September 11th terrorist attacks, the United States was left in a weakened state of fear.
Government officials quickly scrambled to calm the mass panic which resulted in the speedy
passing of the Patriot Act. The Patriot, or what is more formally known as the Providing
Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism act, was established to provide the
government with the implements it needed to stop terrorists operating on American soil. While the
Patriot Act does have an important goal of obstructing terrorism, it achieves this goal at the expense
of our individual liberties given to us by the Constitution. Firstly, the Patriot Act violates the Fourth
Amendment to the United States Constitutionby allowing the government to conduct secret searches
of citizens property undermining the amendment s principle of search and seizure only with a
warrant. The Fourth Amendment protects us from searches and seizures without a warrant or
probable cause. However, sections of the Patriot Act can be seen undermining this American
prerogative. The American Civil Liberties Unionexplains, Section 213 of the Patriot Act justifies
the allowance of secret searches. Secret searches permit the government to search the owner s
private property without having to notify them (ACLU). This section has caused for the mass
surveillance of not only possible terrorists but also innocent American citizens. The government not

Invasion of the Body Snatchers Essay examples
In the 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers , the birth of something horrifying takes place in
Santa Mira, California. Dr. Bennell and Becky are two long lost loves from their youth and are
reunited after years of no contact. Upon returning from a business trip Dr. Bennell notices odd
occurances that start unraveling before him. After a few instances of strange behavior among
Dr.Bennell s patients begin to take place he quickly becomes aware of an imminent epidemic

The parallels between the theme of the film and rising fears of communism and related topics of

The Horizon Oil Rig Explosion
The 2010 Horizon Oil Rig Explosion
On April 20th, 2010 an explosion occurred that would be considered one of the worst oil spills in
U.S. history. The explosion was cause by a surge of natural gas that made it way to the Horizon
rig s platform that ignited. This caused the rig to capsize and sink, thus breaking risers that were
being use to counter act the large amount of pressure from oil and natural gasses (Pallardy,
2015). The explosion killed 11 workers and injured 17 others. The explosion caused a massibe leak
in the oil wellhead. It took 87 days for the wellhead to be closed and it is estimated that over that
time around 210 million gallons of oil leaked into the gulf (Gulf Oil Spill, 2011). BP workers tried
to activate a blowout prevent that was part of the Horizon rig s design. This mechanism was
supposed to close off any way to draw out oil bu the mechanism malfunctioned due to the
pressure form the gas and oil that cause the explosion (Pallardy, 2015). The explosion happened
a few miles from the Loop Current which is a large current of warm water in the Gulf that
covers a massive amount of distance making it easy from the oil to spread (Treudaburg Gramling,
2010). Over the next couple of months they tried a variety of different caps to try to stem the flow
of oil but they were generally unsuccessful and oil still leaked through. It wasn t until July that the
flow was finally stopped by a functional blowout preventer cap (Pallardy, 2015).

Characteristics Of The Following Stereotypes
What are the characteristics of the following stereotypes? o Aunt Jemima/Mammy Mammy

fat, pitch black, and happily obedient to her master and mistress. Mammy was docile, loyal, and
jovial, and understood her value of society. She was considered the antithesis of white ladies,
white ladies being fragile and beautiful. She was also classified as sexual. In her own family, she

They represented that blacks were subhuman. Pickaninnies were portrayed as very dirty near the
ground on a river or near a tree. This symbolized black children as being savage.
Note the types and sheer volume of the arts/images revealed in this film. What might be the
cumulative effect of 150+ years of these images on Americans?
I noticed that the majority of the plethora of pictures shown in this video were that Blacks,
women, men, and even the children, were very dark, had eyes and lips bulging out, jovial and
content with slavery, and were usually portrayed eating watermelon. Americans seeing these
pictures for 150+ years would eventually emit off the fact that most, if not all, Blacks looked
like this and were content of slavery. The pictures evoking off the savage like pictures would give
off the fact that Blacks freed from slavery would end up like this to humanity, acting all savagely
to Whites. All of these caricatures were far from the truth of the reality of how Blacks were; rather,
they were drawn up by Whites who manipulated the White society to believe that these caricatures
were facts, which in reality, they were not.

City Of Glass Graphic Book Analysis
City of Glass the novel written by Paul Auster and its comic adaptation by Paul Karasik and
David Mazzucchelli have ways that they are the same and ways they are different. The part of
both books I am going to focus on is from the time the main character, William Wilson a.k.a
Quinn, goes to the train station to keep an eye on the elderly Peter Stillman on behalf of Virginia
Stillman to the time where Quinn loses sight of Peter Stillman. There are several similarities as
well as differences that I saw in this interval of time. Ultimately, the graphic noveldoes stand alone
as a story; however, as it routinely leaves out content as well as making other changes, it makes an
effect on the readers that is different than the effect the original... Show more content on

The thing to note in both of these situations is that the graphic novel just makes implications, while
the original novel gives more explanations. This is because the essence of a novel is different
than the essence of a graphic novel. So far, and as readers will see later, the original City of
Glass novel is more detailed, but detail is not always needed. The problem arises when a story
leaves out something that is essential to understanding what is going on. Before I go into how the
graphic novel leaves out detail, I want to talk about a few more instances where the novel and the
graphic novel are roughly equal in their storytelling so that when I describe the graphic novel s
flaws, it will be easier to understand. There are a few times when this happens: when Quinn is
hesitant as to which Stillman to follow, and when Quinn follows the Stillman to the hotel. These
occurrences that happen both in the novel and graphic novel are conveyed in a satisfactory
manner. The first big difference we see is implied. The original novel describes that Quinn saw
two elderly Stillmans, one dressed better and one dressed worse. However, the narration is not
specific enough. It does not say anything about the two Stillmans supposedly having the same eye
color, hair color, or facial features. Also, anything described by the narration could be faulty. In the

Deficits are financed by borrowings that itself increase the debt. If the ratio debt to GDP gets too
high, investors will worry that the government will either default on this debt or will devaluate by
monetising its debt and in this way engineer a high inflation rate. According to the Maastricht
Treaty, the EU countries should not have a budget deficit higher than 3% of the GDP and a debt
higher than 60% of the GDP.
I.2.Overview the budget deficit in Viet Nam for the latest 5 years
Macroeconomic Report 2012 titled from macroeconomic instability to restructuring released by the
National Assembly s Economic Committee announced that Vietnam s state budget deficit and
public debts have increased rapidly.
The report (Figure 1 Annex) pointed out that the country has suffered constantly increasing the
state budget deficit for more than a decade. Particularly, the average state budget deficit
(excluding repayments for Vietnam s original debts) in the 2003 2007 period was only 1.3
percent of GDP, but this figure had more than doubled to 2.7 percent of GDP in the 2008 2012
period.
Especially in recent years, ongoing budget deficits have led to the rapid growth of public debt.
Vietnam s total public debts have increased from about 40 percent of GDP in late 2007 to 57
percent of GDP at the end of 2010 and only declined slightly in 2011. At the same time, Vietnam s
foreign debts have surged

Dimethyl Furan A Potential Candidate For Gasoline
Dimethyl furan a potential candidate for gasoline Biofuels are an essential commodity when it
comes to reducing carbon emissions from transportation. The production of biofuels produced
from raw materials will ensure the availability of biofuels to maintain the biofuel industry What
are biofuels? A biofuel is a liquid, solid or any gaseous fuel derived from organic matter such as
waste plant and animal matter. (Biofuels Assosiation Australia , 2014) Did you know wood was
the first form of biofuel ever used? Biofuels are commonly referred to as first generation
biofuels, because they are produced from a large variety of organic materials such as starch,
sugary plants, corn, wheat, sugar cane, soybeans, and vegetable oils, using conventional
technology. The main biofuels include bioethanol and biodiesel. Bioethanol is used as a
replacement for petrol, whilst biodiesel is used as a replacement for diesel (greenfacts, 2014).
Biofuels maintain an immense growth area around the world and have a vital mrole to play in
displacing fossil fuels. Due to environmental concerns and volatility of oil supply, the development
of alternative fuels is crucial to the future of the transport sector. A potential biofuel that can be of
great assistence in the future is 2, 5 Dimethylfuran (C6H8O) which can be used as an alternative to
gasoline (fossil fuel). The chemical formula for dimethyl furan is C6H8O. Dimethylfuran is a
biomass derived from Furan, which is an aromatic

Theory Of Morality As A System Of Hypothetical Imperatives...
Circular Reasoning in Foot s Moral System
In Morality as a System of Hypothetical Imperatives , Philippa Foot argues against Immanuel Kant,
that morality exists in hypothetical imperatives rather than categorical imperatives. For Kant,
categorical imperatives alone serve as moral commands, and it would be impossible for a moral
system to be based on hypothetical imperatives because such imperatives serve as means to ends
and result from maxims that cannot be universalized into perfect duties. Despite this, Foot holds
that acting on many hypothetical imperatives can be morally praiseworthy and can even serve as
the basis of moral judgments. Although I agree with Foot that hypothetical imperatives can have
moral worth, in this paper, I will argue that a morality based on the purposes that hypothetical
imperatives are directed toward appears to be circular. To do this, I will explain Foot s theory of
how morality is known and binds. Then, I will argue that this theory is insufficient to explain the
moral purpose that hypothetical imperatives must be directed toward, thus begging the question of
what is the moral basis of the purpose directed toward in the hypothetical imperative.
To base morality on a system of hypothetical imperatives, Foot begins by explaining Kant s
distinction between hypothetical and categorical imperatives. According to Kant, a hypothetical
imperative can be contrasted with a categorical imperative in that it commands an action that is
good to some

The Impact Of Christianity On Hong Kong

Christianity in Hong Kong
By the time Hong Kong became a British colony, the foundation stones for Christianity had been
laid. Both Catholicism and Protestant Christianity had firmly taken root in Macau since the arrival
of the Portuguese in the seventeenth century. Christianity was also part of the bizarre and corrupted
mixture of beliefs that made up the Taiping ideology during the Taiping Revolution (Smith). When
the British took control of Hong Kong, Christianity started to play a significant role in the social
and political life of Hong Kong. Christianity continues to be a major part of the cultural fabric,
social life, and political outlook of Hong Kong.
Originally, Christianity was part of the colonial toolkit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christianity was held out as a carrot for those who were interested in participating in British
dominated economic enterprises and political institutions. As it had done with its colonies in other
parts of Asia, the British government ensured that schools taught a Western curriculum that
included Christian theology and practice.
Thus, it soon became apparent that fundamental European social institutions like schools and
businesses could not be truly separated from Christianity. Conversion to Christianity meant
essentially submission to colonialist ideals. It was a calling card for entry into all but the upper
echelons of society, and most converts cared too little about cricket to care if they were banned
from British country clubs on the basis of their ethnicity. In fact, the British ensured complicity
with its policies precisely by allowing Chinese heritage and culture to flourish under the rubric of a
Christianized Hong Kong. It was possible to be both things at once: to be both Chinese and
Christian. Without having to abandon their culture, greater numbers of converts were willing to
participate in this one dimension of colonization. A passive approach to the Christianization of
Hong Kong was rooted in the Treaty of Nanking, which prohibited the British from engaging in
overt forms of indoctrination but which allowed British trade and commercial objectives to be met

Perception is shaped by learning, memorizing, expectation and attention.
Perception involves these top down effects as well as the bottom up process of processing sensory
input. The bottom up processing transfers the low level information to higher level information
(extracts shapes for object recognition) the top down processing refers to a person s concept and
expectations (knowledge) and selective mechanisms that influence perception. Perception includes
all those process by which an individual receive information about his environment like seeing,

Speed or Tempo: What is the difference?

Not A Hoof Left Behind Mark Twain
NOT A HOOF LEFT BEHIND
Mark Twain says that early in his life he moved to a mining town in Colorado. The town was
wide open with brothels and bars on every corner. Twain says, I immediately recognized it was no
place for a Christian so I decided not to be one. Many people have imitated Twain s response.
When they find it hard to be a Christian, they either quit trying to be one or they compromise their
convictions.
Jesus directs some of His harshest words toward the sin of compromise embodied in the
doctrines of Balaam and the Nicolaitans in the church at Pergamos (Rev. 2:12 17). Both doctrines
were efforts to adjust Christianity to the level of the world rather than lift the world to the level of
Christianity. They taught the people to go along in order to get along, in short, to compromise.
However, Jesus says he hates the doctrine (2:15), and the Scriptures warn us repeatedly against it
(2 Cor. 6:17; Rom. 12:2; 2 Tim. 2:19).
Pharaoh s dealing with Moses is a classic example of how the devil uses compromise to thwart
God s children from reaching the Promised Land (Ex. 8:25 10:26). At God s orders, Moses and
Aaron demand that Pharaoh release every family and tribe of Israel out of Egypt. Pharaoh does
not wish to grant any part of their request, but sees he is going to have to yield to some extent. He
feels, however, that he can save his dignity and protect his own interests by yielding less than what
is demanded. On four occasions, he offers to compromise.
First, God

Pavee Lackeen is a 2005 documentary style film which captures young Traveller girl Winnie
Maughan over ten months as she lived in a roadside caravan with her mother and ten brothers in
Dublin. The living conditions of Winnie and her family are common throughout the Travelling
community in Ireland, as stated by Pavee Point (2016) that 800 Traveller families live on the
side of the road with no running water or sanitation . This film, in contrast to Into The West,
which though accurate of its representation of Travellers is a fiction film, not real world. Pavee
Lackeen is a very real depiction of how Irish Travellers live in society today. Winnie Maughan is
not an actress, she was filmed in her own home with no cinematic effects added to enhance or
derail the experience of her surroundings. The result is a real life illustration of the lives of
Travellers in Ireland. The film portrays the poverty in which Winnie and her family live, in a run
down caravan dangerously close to a Dublin dual carriageway. Just as in Into The West the lack of
interest in school shown by children and parents alike emphasizes the stereotype of Travellers but
the fact that it is highlighted in the film that a large number of schools refuse Traveller children, all
the blame cannot rest with them. An issue which is heavily evident and pressing is the lack of
resources available to Winnie and her family by the Irish government. The council cannot even
provide housing with sufficient running water for the family. Throughout research for this paper, it
was continually argued by those who were against Irish Travellers being recognized as an ethnic
minority that Travellers are Irish so therefore cannot be an Ethnic minority group in this country.
There is a constant theme which cannot be missed in the film as the people that Winnie comes into

Gangsta Culture And Cultural Resistance
For the longest time art has been a tool for expressing one s self, passion, anger, pain, grief, or

for developing ideas and practices (S. Duncombe 5). There have been multiple theorists trying to
identify what depicts a subcultural group as culturally resistant. Cultural resistance can take
different forms and can be expressed via different media depending on the subcultural group. Some
theorists also identify cultural resistance as a form of political resistance (p. 6). The Gangsta Culture

Sweatshops In China
It was Martin Luther King, Jr. who said, Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere
ignorance. Many people in the Western world either do not know or choose to ignore the fact that a
massive amount of products that come into North America from faraway lands are produced in
sweatshops, including shoes, clothing, and toys. This ignorance over the inhumane and unjust
labour conditions happening in factories on other sides of the globe is precisely what keeps these
horrifying practices alive. China is home to one of the most enormous and concentrated sweatshop
systems in the world. There are approximately 150 million people in China working in ghastly
conditions, having to live off nearly unsustainable pay, and being refused benefits... Show more

In present China, forced and unpaid prison labor is widespread and common. Characteristics of
Chinese sweatshops include overcrowding, lack of sanitary conditions, no worker breaks,
demands to complete a task within a limited period of time, and a total lack of job security.
Government negligence is what allows such abuses to persist. Some plants force employees into
working extraordinary amounts of hours, for example, a Price Waterhouse audit of Nike
factories in China found that some require seven days of work per week. Many workers who
supposedly have the choice to work overtime must do so in order to survive on their low wage
rates. The people working in Chinese sweatshops only get a small amount of payment for their
work and nothing more. The locals do not benefit at all, but instead suffer from the presence of
foreign businesses in their country. As for the foreigners, one telling statistic is that the United States
imports an estimated $100 million per year in goods produced by Chinese migrant workers. The
outside companies gain millions as the developing countries struggle to survive. Presently,
foreigners gain massively from the resource of migrant workers in China. The locals that can
benefit from their presence benefit very, very little, that is, if a small amount of money for their
work is seen as a benefit. The Chinese employees work is valuable to the company, for their

Observation Of General Education
Recently, I had the opportunity to observe several general education classes taught by a single
teacher that each contained one or more students who have special needs. Within these classes, I
was able to discern how both they and the teacher dealt with their disabilities as well as how they
functioned within the atmosphere of general education. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss
my observations on three remarkable students and their teacher including their physical, mental and
social development.
General Information
As mentioned above, all of my observations were in several general education classrooms taught
by a single teacher, which henceforth, in order to protect the confidentiality of the students
within the classroom, I will refer to as Mr. Bubbles. All of the classrooms I observed were
general math classes and were full of students ranging from freshman to junior in age groups.
Within these classes, I observed a wide range of accommodations for three main students, whom I
will refer to as Joey, Jeremy, and Tom, including one on one sessions, shortened assignments and
tests, and allotted break areas. Due to the parameters of the permission I received to observe in the
classroom, I was not able to secure any information on their family interactions, or any other
personal dynamics (I was not able to ask personal questions about the students), thus all of my
information will be limited to my conversations as well as what happened solely within Mr. Bubbles

Leaders In The Odyssey
Leader s characteristics and values during the ruling in Virgil, Plato, and Pericles all have their
differences in affliction to humanity. Imagining how one leader is able mind is able to manage and
instill such rules into their cultures is very important. In this essay I will depicting the great
influences of the characteristics and values on Virgil, Plato, and Periclescultures and the
importance these factors had on powerful leaders during their reign. Also what these rulers
endeared to have such the impact they have created to continue through over the centuries dating
back to BCE is legendary until this day. Publius Vergilius Maro 70 BC 19 B.C. was one of many
major poets during the civil war. Virgil s work during the Rome s Golden... Show more content on

Instead, by Socrates using the writing works of his students as influence to his own works, he
was able to develop into the writer that Plato was anticipating for us to one day in this life to
witness. These two philosophers, Plato and Socrates complement each other s style, believing
that psyche can is to be immutable and immortal. Both philosophers also have beliefs that one is
able to remember the state of the pure state. Socrates thoughts to Plato are not as advanced as he
think Socrates should be. Plato uses idealism for his own philosophy meaning he seeks the
ultimate perfection for his creative work. When Socrates died Plato became deeply depressed and
felt almost hopeless. Resulting from this time in Plato s life, is when he created Republic as an
outline of his life. Through Republic Plato is describing form his point of view of the

The Development of an Artificial Life based Software...
The behavior of a solution or a service can be analyzed by taking into account the interaction
between the components of the software. These interactions can be analyzed by developing a
framework based on Artificial Life. This calls for the development of an Artificial Life based
Software Ecosystem model. This paper proposes a framework using Artificial Life in the Software
Ecosystem. In order to find the gaps in the existing methodologies, extensive literature review has
been carried out. It was found that the interest in the topic has been on the increase and the advent
of professional Ecosystems has helped popularizing the phenomenon. However, the present
framework do not use the data related to evolution of the Software for later stages. The proposed
methodology would pave way of Artificial Life in Software Ecosystem.
1.INTRODUCTION A Software Ecosystem (SE) considers developers, clients, operating system,
underlying hardware and other peripheral components. A SE considers the concept of evolution of
the software in the same way as the evolution of a natural ecosystem. It has been pointed out by
many researchers that considering the system s evolution would lead to a better and comprehensive
analysis of the software which would ultimately help in management and development of new
versions. The point can be understood by the following analogy. If we consider that evolution of a
human being, then what humans have done in order to achieve, what they have been able to

Advantages and Disadvantage to being A Art Director
Michael Temple Professor Sigmon RWS 305 11 a.m. 14 October 2014 Need for Visual
Communication Art has been much more than just a hobby or a way of expressing ones feelings,
it was long before there was any proof of a verbal language; art was a key form of communication.
Artists create art to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings. They use a variety of methods such
as painting, sculpting, or illustration. Also an assortment of medians, including oils, watercolors,
acrylics, pastels, pencils, pen and ink, plaster, clay, and computers. Artists works may be realistic,
stylized, or abstract and may depict objects, people, nature, or events. Art today is the key form of
the world around us, from advertisement too architecture,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through my research, artist can struggle to find a job they want or find it hard to sell their art.
Those artists who do not versatile in the different media s of art, their opportunities can be
limited due to keen completion in both salary jobs and freelance work. This is mainly due to the
number of qualified workers/artist exceeding the number of available openings in the career
field. As I stated earlier, there are some requirement to becoming an art director, and fulfilling
those requirements can be difficult. You have to at least find a job and keep it competitively to
sustain an income. In a Houston Chronicle article online by Megan Torrance mentions painters
like me have trouble finding work and commissions, ...the BLS reports that the number of
charitable donations has been declining in recent years. In spite of this, interest in the
occupation has remained steady and led to a larger pool of qualified candidate... the BLS
projects the market will remain competitive from 2010 to 2020 (Chron.com). The artist
occupying the art and design field is increasing while the number of jobs openings is staying at a
steady rate. This is why it is important to be versatile in multimedia of art, so that you have more
opportunities at different jobs in the art field. To be an art director you pretty much have to be
versatile in the different media s and have a few different positions under your belt to qualify for
the position. Another disadvantage to be

Comparison Of Adaptation And Here Comes The Sun
In Adaptation and Till Dawn (Here Comes the Sun), Canadian artist The Weeknd clearly depict the
themes of loneliness, relationships, betrayal, lust and society which is explored quite heavily
throughout the two songs both portraying the themes in different perspectives. Within the first song
Adaptation, the story presented is about a young man who after time allows himself to let go of the
women he loves in order to pursue his ambitions and enjoy the highlife that comes with those
ambitions all whilst contemplating whether the madness was worth it all. Even though the man has
spent time looking for the one that is right for him, he knows that the desire of him having too
much is taking over his chance of keeping his relationships together.... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
Adaptation s authorial intention is trying to convey the message that people shouldn t have the
expectation that reaching your goals or ambitions are going to be easy but instead having the
outlook that the choices you make to get to where you want to go in life are always going to make
outcomes that force you into becoming a person you wouldn t expect to become. However, the
authorial intention of Until Dawn (Here Comes the Sun), portrays the message that sometimes
there are things in life you are going to want and desire but can t always get it the way you want.
Although both songs depict very different perspectives of the characters projected within these
lyrics, the themes that were explored within the song intertwine as both people within the songs
leave their relationships on their own terms but leave a space free for their previous significant
other to come back to them. This is important to note as though both songs tell two different stories
about relationships, it s a kind of chilling mood that both the perspectives are sung about that
implies that neither of them want the people that surround them to find somebody else to share the
feeling of love with. Both of the songs tie together the themes, literal devices and authorial intention
in order to strongly bring out the emotions of this song which create meaning for the listener of the

  • 2. Child Labor During The Progressive Era During the progressive era the conditions of the factories that children worked in were extremely brutal. Children Worked in very hot factories and some were only at the age of 4 ( Child Labor Britannica). The reason factories were hot were because there were so many children confined in the factories. This means that there were sweaty, hot children working 16 hours a day. In the book Children at work, there was a child working at a furniture factoryand he had dozens of infected wood splints. This is bad because it shows how cruel people were to children during the progressive era. This affected children modern days because if child labor kept on going on children would not be able to attend as often much school as they do now. During the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Children And Their Primary Schools Report The children and their primary schools report, also known as the Plowden Report, was published in 1967 by the Central Advisory Council and written by Bridget Plowden. The aim of the report was to consider Primary Education in all of its aspects and the transition from primary to secondary education. The Report took four years to write and was published just after the post Second World War. At this time many people believed that environmental influences played a significant role in the development of students. (Bartlett et al., 2001). The Plowden documented different recommendations into how children should be taught and strongly emphasised the importance of the first 6years of a child s education. The report also looked closely at any social inequalities that might affect the child s learning such as family size and/or overcrowding. The Plowden also had a major influence on today s education, it introduced a new style of teaching and learning, that hadn t been used before. Before the report was published, education was taught in a very traditional and didactic way of the teacher standing at the front of the class and sharing their knowledge to the children who expected to just listen and take in the information. However after its publication the way in which children was taught became very child centred with them becoming more involved in their learning and the lessons were adapted in a way that would benefit and interest the child as the Plowden states that .Many people ... Their goal is to manage the states fish and wildlife population and also to enforce the wildlife related laws of the state. They help to protect and preserve the right to hunt not only for the present time, but also for the future. In just this past year, the agency has established some new regulations that have caused an uproar in the huntingcommunity. The two rules which have been headlined in most conversations is the new two buck limit for the states hunting season, and the new antler restrictions on what is considered a buck. Due to the success of many other states with fewer buck limits, TWRA has established these rules. These new rules are designed to have long term affects on not only hunters, but also possibly the whole state for years to come. While there may be a lot of good that may come from these new changes, there also may be a negative impact hidden between the lines. These rules have been designed to increase the amount of trophy deerin the state, increase the amount of doe kills in the state, and also to truly make hunters picky about what they shoot. The ultimate dream of nearly all outdoorsmen in the United Statesof America today is to kill a mature old whitetail buck, and these chances have been very few and far between in the state of Tennessee in the past. The judges may also be measured by their native talents and experiences whereby issues of the number of years a particular judge has been working at the lower courts and the quality of the law school they might have attended. Another measure for the quality of judges is depreciating ability; some judges performance may decline due to cognitive impairments, while others may gain experience over time. City Of Glass Graphic Book Analysis City of Glass the novel written by Paul Auster and its comic adaptation by Paul Karasik and David Mazzucchelli have ways that they are the same and ways they are different. The part of both books I am going to focus on is from the time the main character, William Wilson a.k.a Quinn, goes to the train station to keep an eye on the elderly Peter Stillman on behalf of Virginia Stillman to the time where Quinn loses sight of Peter Stillman. There are several similarities as well as differences that I saw in this interval of time. Ultimately, the graphic noveldoes stand alone as a story; however, as it routinely leaves out content as well as making other changes, it makes an effect on the readers that is different than the effect the original... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thing to note in both of these situations is that the graphic novel just makes implications, while the original novel gives more explanations. This is because the essence of a novel is different than the essence of a graphic novel. So far, and as readers will see later, the original City of Glass novel is more detailed, but detail is not always needed. The problem arises when a story leaves out something that is essential to understanding what is going on. Before I go into how the graphic novel leaves out detail, I want to talk about a few more instances where the novel and the graphic novel are roughly equal in their storytelling so that when I describe the graphic novel s flaws, it will be easier to understand. There are a few times when this happens: when Quinn is hesitant as to which Stillman to follow, and when Quinn follows the Stillman to the hotel. These occurrences that happen both in the novel and graphic novel are conveyed in a satisfactory manner. The first big difference we see is implied. The original novel describes that Quinn saw two elderly Stillmans, one dressed better and one dressed worse. However, the narration is not specific enough. It does not say anything about the two Stillmans supposedly having the same eye color, hair color, or facial features. Also, anything described by the narration could be faulty. In the ... Dimethyl Furan A Potential Candidate For Gasoline Dimethyl furan a potential candidate for gasoline Biofuels are an essential commodity when it comes to reducing carbon emissions from transportation. The production of biofuels produced from raw materials will ensure the availability of biofuels to maintain the biofuel industry What are biofuels? A biofuel is a liquid, solid or any gaseous fuel derived from organic matter such as waste plant and animal matter. (Biofuels Assosiation Australia , 2014) Did you know wood was the first form of biofuel ever used? Biofuels are commonly referred to as first generation biofuels, because they are produced from a large variety of organic materials such as starch, sugary plants, corn, wheat, sugar cane, soybeans, and vegetable oils, using conventional technology. The main biofuels include bioethanol and biodiesel. Bioethanol is used as a replacement for petrol, whilst biodiesel is used as a replacement for diesel (greenfacts, 2014). Biofuels maintain an immense growth area around the world and have a vital mrole to play in displacing fossil fuels. Due to environmental concerns and volatility of oil supply, the development of alternative fuels is crucial to the future of the transport sector. A potential biofuel that can be of great assistence in the future is 2, 5 Dimethylfuran (C6H8O) which can be used as an alternative to gasoline (fossil fuel). • 31. Theory Of Morality As A System Of Hypothetical Imperatives... Circular Reasoning in Foot s Moral System In Morality as a System of Hypothetical Imperatives , Philippa Foot argues against Immanuel Kant, that morality exists in hypothetical imperatives rather than categorical imperatives. For Kant, categorical imperatives alone serve as moral commands, and it would be impossible for a moral system to be based on hypothetical imperatives because such imperatives serve as means to ends and result from maxims that cannot be universalized into perfect duties. Despite this, Foot holds that acting on many hypothetical imperatives can be morally praiseworthy and can even serve as the basis of moral judgments. Although I agree with Foot that hypothetical imperatives can have moral worth, in this paper, I will argue that a morality based on the purposes that hypothetical imperatives are directed toward appears to be circular. To do this, I will explain Foot s theory of how morality is known and binds. Then, I will argue that this theory is insufficient to explain the moral purpose that hypothetical imperatives must be directed toward, thus begging the question of what is the moral basis of the purpose directed toward in the hypothetical imperative. To base morality on a system of hypothetical imperatives, Foot begins by explaining Kant s distinction between hypothetical and categorical imperatives. According to Kant, a hypothetical imperative can be contrasted with a categorical imperative in that it commands an action that is good to some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both Catholicism and Protestant Christianity had firmly taken root in Macau since the arrival of the Portuguese in the seventeenth century. Christianity was also part of the bizarre and corrupted mixture of beliefs that made up the Taiping ideology during the Taiping Revolution (Smith). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christianity was held out as a carrot for those who were interested in participating in British dominated economic enterprises and political institutions. As it had done with its colonies in other parts of Asia, the British government ensured that schools taught a Western curriculum that included Christian theology and practice. Thus, it soon became apparent that fundamental European social institutions like schools and businesses could not be truly separated from Christianity. Conversion to Christianity meant essentially submission to colonialist ideals. It was a calling card for entry into all but the upper echelons of society, and most converts cared too little about cricket to care if they were banned from British country clubs on the basis of their ethnicity. In fact, the British ensured complicity with its policies precisely by allowing Chinese heritage and culture to flourish under the rubric of a Christianized Hong Kong. It was possible to be both things at once: to be both Chinese and Christian. Without having to abandon their culture, greater numbers of converts were willing to participate in this one dimension of colonization. The town was wide open with brothels and bars on every corner. Twain says, I immediately recognized it was no place for a Christian so I decided not to be one. Many people have imitated Twain s response. When they find it hard to be a Christian, they either quit trying to be one or they compromise their convictions. Jesus directs some of His harshest words toward the sin of compromise embodied in the doctrines of Balaam and the Nicolaitans in the church at Pergamos (Rev. 2:12 17). Both doctrines were efforts to adjust Christianity to the level of the world rather than lift the world to the level of Christianity. They taught the people to go along in order to get along, in short, to compromise. However, Jesus says he hates the doctrine (2:15), and the Scriptures warn us repeatedly against it (2 Cor. 6:17; Rom. 12:2; 2 Tim. 2:19). Pharaoh s dealing with Moses is a classic example of how the devil uses compromise to thwart God s children from reaching the Promised Land (Ex. 8:25 10:26). At God s orders, Moses and Aaron demand that Pharaoh release every family and tribe of Israel out of Egypt. Pharaoh does not wish to grant any part of their request, but sees he is going to have to yield to some extent. Pavee Lackeen is a 2005 documentary style film which captures young Traveller girl Winnie Maughan over ten months as she lived in a roadside caravan with her mother and ten brothers in Dublin. The living conditions of Winnie and her family are common throughout the Travelling community in Ireland, as stated by Pavee Point (2016) that 800 Traveller families live on the side of the road with no running water or sanitation . This film, in contrast to Into The West, which though accurate of its representation of Travellers is a fiction film, not real world. Pavee Lackeen is a very real depiction of how Irish Travellers live in society today. Winnie Maughan is not an actress, she was filmed in her own home with no cinematic effects added to enhance or derail the experience of her surroundings. The result is a real life illustration of the lives of Travellers in Ireland. The film portrays the poverty in which Winnie and her family live, in a run down caravan dangerously close to a Dublin dual carriageway. Just as in Into The West the lack of interest in school shown by children and parents alike emphasizes the stereotype of Travellers but the fact that it is highlighted in the film that a large number of schools refuse Traveller children, all the blame cannot rest with them. An issue which is heavily evident and pressing is the lack of resources available to Winnie and her family by the Irish government. The council cannot even provide housing with sufficient running water for the family.
