from Henry Goodcole s pamphlet, The Wonderful Discoverie of Elizabeth Sawyer, a
Witch, late of Edmonton. Her Conviction and Condemation and Death. (London,
1621). I will be seeing how if the contemporary public felt the same way and how this
relates to the history of witchcraft.
Henry Goodcole was a prison visitor and author [and was] best known for a series
of criminal biographies, arising from his experiences as ordinary and recounting his
attempts to extort confessions from the condemned in the prison . The most famous
of his visits was to Elizabeth Sawyer, who was suspected of being a witch. His
pamphlet on the Sawyer case included the confession he had elicited from the
condemned witch while preparing her spiritually for execution .
Before sixteenth century, the ability to read and write was low. But during the
century there was growth in education for the public and illiteracy was decreasing.
It is estimated that in 1600 about 10 per cent of women in England were literate; by
1700 this had risen to perhaps 30 per cent . In 1650 the male literacy rate rose to

mode of literacy that provided the foundation for pamphlet culture . Despite the low

For this play report, I read Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. The thing I most took away
from this show was the differences and similarities in theatre between when it was
written, circa 441 b.c.e, and now. Ancient Greek theatre is obviously very different
from the theatre we perform today in many respects. Particularly, there were many
performance elements that were very different and deemed unacceptable, such as
female actors, within ancient Greek theatre; I would be fascinated to see how modern
day adaptations went with the production. Additionally, the use of the chorus
shows a need for less nuance than the theatre we use today, with a lot more explicit
exposition; this is something that is used mainly as a joke or a parody in modern
theatre. Finally, the plot itself is so crazy, yet there are a lot of parallels between it
and popular books, theatre and other media today. Ultimately, this play was a really
interesting look back in time as to what theatre was like thousands of years ago, and
finding similarities and differences between now and then was a really enriching
experience.

Freedom. Both acts of civil disobedience were effective at increasing support for

civil disobedience was when Rosa Parks defied segregation laws by refusing to
surrender her seat on the bus to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama. On
December first of 1955, a white man entered a bus to find that the white section
had run out of seats. The bus driver decided to expand the white section by another
for the one man. All but one of the four people in the colored row that was being
removed got up. The one who stayed in her seat was Rosa Parks. Parks later stated,
People always say that I didn t give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn t
true. I was not tired physically... No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in .
The bus driver insisted she leave her seat to stand and Parks refused. Parks had
been in conflict with that bus driver in the past for refusing to debark after paying
and reenter through the back. Two officers placed Parks into custody and later, at

Narrative Self Reflection A large purpose of the narrative is to show the change a
person must go through in order to change long term habits, and the setting heavily
reflects on that, because both the character and the setting changed. It is set over
the course of a year, which is shown through lines such as flowers bloom , and it
grows colder . It is also shown in the title of each poem, which both corresponds to
the season, and the stage of recovery the main characteris in. These help to establish

metaphors of different seasons to convey my message. In literature, winter

Alex seems to be caught in a cycle of crime and poverty. The state in a Marxists
sense describes the institutions by which class rule is maintained. In the dystopian

The legislation addressing the social issue of abortion is a paramount interest to
me because I am a pro life supporter. I understand that as of 1973 the U.S. Supreme
Court s Roe vs. Wade legalized abortion in all fifty states. Therefore, I m not
completely fighting against abortion but rather the pro life versus pro choice aspect
of it. Although I m pro life, certain situations are necessary to get an abortionlike rape,

Why Polygamy Should Be Legal
Could you imagine living in a world where it is acceptable for a man to marry
more than one woman and be open about it? A large number cannot and the practice
of polygamy is seen as a taboo. The families usually live private lives, and they do
not interact with the rest of America due to anti bigamy society we live in. Polygamy
is the practice of being married to more than one person at the same time. This is not
to be confused with an open relationship or an open marriage. This topic was viewed
as controversial for years. As a practice that was not accepted in the public eye, it
recently gained more attention with mainstream media and culture. Shows on
television such as Sister Wives may pose questions if polygamy should be legally
practiced, and it should not be. The stronger actions that law enforcement continues
to take against polygamist communities are justified. Women who partake in the
practice often times are not old enough or aware enough to be offered a real choice
in the polygamist marriage. Furthermore, the young women engaging in the
practice makes it illegal. They should be taken out of these environments as well

In composing the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri has created and brought to his
readers three examples of literary brilliance. A masterfully written poem that still
serves as a preface for contemporary heaven/hell/purgatory imagery, the divine
comedy brings readers along for the ride on Dante s path towards salvation.
Depending on how gullible one may be, interpretation of the legitimacy of the Divine
Comedyis varied; that is to say, although a few might believe Dante actually did
somehow travel through hell, purgatory, heavenand live to write the tale, the majority
of us will agree that Dante did not write the Divine Comedy based on first hand
experience and instead wrote it based on his own perceived notions of what the
afterlife is like. Thus, if we take this more popular approach, then it follows that Dante
has inevitably instilled some of his own personal beliefs and prejudices into the
placement of souls within the Comedy. Ultimately, this results in a few
inconsistencies in Dante s logic that surface throughout the three different canticles.

The Games of Thrones is a 1st book in A song of Ice and Fire . It is a fantastic
adaptation of George R.R. Martin. The story of The Games of Thrones is original
, multi layered with lots of sub plots, and is non formulaic. It is incredibly exciting
,joyful, suspenseful ,mysterious, and very unpredictable and there is no way for
you to know what is going to happen in this novel. The story is also very violent .
The characters are well developed and enjoyable whereas some characters are even
clever and secretive. Unlike most fantasy books, Martin s characters are not totally
good or evil. His characters are also very personable so we can think of them as
real people and can develop strong emotions towards them throughout the novel.
Many of the characters in the novel The Games of Thrones are killed off and new
ones appear throughout the novel. The title sequence consists of a three dimensional
map of the world, which includes the continents of Westeros and Essos, located on
the inner surface of a sphere. At the center of the sphere is a light source, a sun

I have known Keri for 3 years now as we came to Northwest Christian University
