Essay Identity
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Identity" can be a challenging endeavor, as it requires
delving into the complex and multifaceted concept of identity. Identity, in itself, is a broad and
abstract theme that encompasses various aspects such as personal, cultural, social, and even
existential dimensions. The difficulty lies in navigating through this intricate web of ideas and
articulating a coherent and insightful perspective.
One of the primary challenges is striking the right balance between personal experiences and
broader theoretical frameworks. The essay should not only reflect the author's unique identity but
also incorporate relevant theories and concepts from sociology, psychology, and other disciplines.
This synthesis demands a nuanced understanding of the subject matter and the ability to connect
personal anecdotes to broader societal issues.
Furthermore, grappling with the dynamic nature of identity poses its own set of difficulties.
Identity is not static; it evolves over time, influenced by experiences, relationships, and societal
changes. Capturing this dynamism in a written form requires careful consideration of one's own
growth and transformation, as well as an awareness of the external factors shaping identity.
Another challenge is avoiding oversimplification or clichГ©d approaches to the topic. Identity is
a deeply personal and subjective concept, and reducing it to stereotypes or superficial
observations does not do justice to its complexity. Striving for depth and originality while
avoiding common pitfalls requires a thoughtful and reflective writing process.
In conclusion, tackling the theme of "Essay Identity" demands a blend of self-reflection,
academic rigor, and creativity. Navigating the intricacies of identity and presenting a compelling
narrative or argument requires a deep understanding of both personal experiences and theoretical
frameworks. It's a delicate balancing act that challenges writers to explore the nuances of who
they are and how they fit into the broader tapestry of human identity.

A Rhetorical Analysis Of An Email
Analysis
The email has been evaluated on its use of language and expression, tone and
organisation. In analysing the language and expression, the sentence in line 1 the
seminar was meant for managers was unnecessary. It may be deciphered by other
staff members as being boastful and breed ill feelings. In line 2, boss can be better
phrased with higher management in expressing the idea of a higher authority.
The evaluation on overall tone was informal and not respectful towards to the
recipients. From line 14 to 15, the tone of the sentence was informal in putting
across the message of asking his fellow colleagues to cut down on their frequency
of checking emails. This would also deem as not respectful by the recipients. In
line 18, the use of yap as a slang for yes was unacceptable as well. From line 23 to
25, the phrase by the way should not be used in communicating in workplace. The
tone of sentences between line 23 to line 25 was sarcastic and adopts an arrogant
attitude towards the recipients. In line 32, the sentence it really works, try it! was
not appropriate in a formal email to promote the skills he was sharing. The sentence
Too bad I have to miss this one in line 35, was an expression of his feelings which
was unnecessary. Lastly, he should not be signing off with cheers since this was
supposed to be an formal and informative email. This makes the email informal and

This email was not well organised with overly long sentences and irrelevant
information found in the email. From line 6 to 9, the sentence being overly long is
tiring to read and should be split into 2 or 3 shorter sentences to put the point
across to the recipients more effectively. In line 23, there is a spelling error of the
word lovely instead of likely . From line 34 to 36, the content is unrelated to the
purpose of the email and should be
The Fall Of The House Of Usher Effect
Edgar Allan Poe once said that the artistry of narratives is in the ability to achieve
a unity of effect (Clement, lecture notes). His narrative The Fall of the House of
Usher, is about a man that gets a letter from an old friend that wants him to go visit
because he is sick. When he arrives, he notices that his friend and his sister is not
the only one affected by illness, the house is too. That leads to the death of the
Ushers and the fall of the house. In The Fall of the House of Usher, Poe makes death
and decay, and overall illness, his unity of effect. He establishes this effect through
his narrator, the setting of the story, and the tragedy that affects its characters. In this
short narrative, there are many textual examples that... Show more content on

This alone gives us the sense that the setting is a somber place. From that brief
section of text, we can begin to picture a place that can be taken as being ill and
gloomy. The narrator gives us a very vivid description of the atmosphere of the
house. For example, when entering he said it was like he breathed an atmosphere
of sorrow (The Art of the Short Story, 711). A narratives plot may be the biggest
factor in producing an effect. Through the conflict that is presented, the reader is
given events that lead them to become interested in the story and its characters. The
conflict that takes place in this narrative is that Rodrick Usher, the narrators
boyhood friend, is sick and he wants the narrator to go to his estate to visit him.
The mystery builds because the illness seems to deadly and it is unclear what
exactly is wrong with him. The narrator learned that the entire family lay in the
direct line of descent and it did not have any enduring branches (The Art of the Short
Story, 709). Although it is not explicitly stated by the Ushers, the reader can infer
that the cause of this family s illness is incest that has gone on for many

Artificial hair integrations, more commonly known as hair extensions (rarely referred

Hair extensions are methods of lengthening one s hair by incorporating artificial hair

Clip in or Clip On Hair Extensions
This technique is the least permanent and can be very effective without the

is placed onto this section with the clips open and facing the scalp. Each clip is
snapped into place. It can be helpful to lightly backcomb each section for a more
secure grip. This is repeated until each clip in weft is in place. Clip ins can be worn
all day and all night; however, they must be removed before sleeping. Some people
wear clip ins just for night life, while others wear
Literary Elements In The Matrix
The Matrix is a well known blockbuster film which was released in the year 1999.
Viewers commonly it identify by the fascinating video effects as well as the unreal
(yet real in the movie) acts performed in the scenes. The idea which I aim to explore
concerning the movie in this essay dwells on the usage of cinematographic elements,
the theme of fate as well as the stylistic use of literary elements.
The movie is well known for the advanced cinematographic effects and for a person

as well as imaginary concept which make the film fall under the genre of science

Differences Of Kantianism And Utilitarianism
In this paper, I will discuss how Kantianism and Utilitarianism would have
oppositional views on the decision to break protocol in order to save a child life.
Ethical Dilemma:
A child is brought into the emergency department by his mother. The mother is
yelling that her child is not breathing. The nurse runs over and takes the child, runs
inside the emergency room and yells for a doctor. No doctor has arrived, but another
nurse comes into the room and both nurses begin CPR on the child. The nurses talk
to one another and agree that the child needed to be intubated immediately in order to
survive. However, the doctors were unavailable. The first nurse to respond to the
mother decides to intubate the child even though intubation is outside of her scope of
practice and she could be fired for performing the intubation. The nurse intubated the
child successfully and the child is in a stable condition after the intubation.
Utilitarianism:
Utilitarianism is a consequentialist philosophy: the righteousness and wrongness of
actions dependon the result of the actions, not the intent of the actions. Actions are
right if they maximize happiness and decrease pain. It is important to maximize
happiness as a collective, not just maximize happiness the pleasure individually. For
example, there are opportunities in which sacrificing one s own happiness is
acceptable if it results in a greater value of happiness in a community. A Utilitarian
can calculate the net worth of actions by calculating the pain and pleasure it each will
create. However, during events where there is not enough time for calculation, we
can just rely on the rule of thumb, which are basic (common sense) rules, such as not
murdering, lying, or cheating.
Response to action:
An Act Utilitarian would argue that saving the child life was the correct action
because the life of a child outweighs the pain that could result if the nurse lost her
license. There would be a greater amount of pain if the nurse did not intubate the
patient. A child would have died, the mother would have to grieve losing her child,
and the healthcare workers would be distraught because they were unable to save the
child, even though they had the resources and knowledge to do so.
My Reality Check Essay
My Reality Check
Two things didn t mix well in my life. One was being a full time student and the other
an athlete.
It was great not having parents around telling you to do your homework or to go to
class, of which I never did. I had a choice, which was more important, playing
lacrosse or studying. Like any first year college student I picked lacrosse. At that
point I didn t realize what I was getting myself into. Who at that age would know
either?
My worst nightmare came true in the summer of 1989. I was academically
dismissed from the university. I thought to myself no way, this could never happen
to me, I played lacrosse, had a girlfriend, and I was popular, how could this have
happened . The worst part of the whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proved to be beneficial, for I received a 3.67 grade point average for that
semester. That spring was just as good, that year my grade point average was a 3.46.
I was happy, and so were my parents. I proceeded to reapply back to my former
university and was accepted. I gradated with over a 3.0 in my major and was offered
a job in Washington D.C.
Being dismissed from college was one experience that I have never regretted and
never will. I can see why this happened; I was a student athlete, which doesn t mix.
Being an athlete in college I had to practice Monday through Saturday, I was
always tired, too tired to study and go to class. I did learn a couple things though,
sportsmanship, self discipline, teamwork, cooperation, and concentration. Too bad
none of these attributes rubbed off on my schooling. The university said that they
would help me out with my schoolwork but that was just a lie, one in which they
still use today. The school put me into these easy classes which didn t teach me
anything except how to fall asleep in class. The university was only worried about
winning games and being nationally recognized. They didn t help me when I was
doing poorly and even after I was dismissed.
After being dismissed I realized a few things, one that the university only cared about
my money, another was that everything I did I did for someone else, and that I was

Sweat During Exercise Analysis
Growing up I used to think sweat was the norm for unhealthy people. My
grandmother was over 300 pounds and she always used to sweat. When she got
up, sat down, walked to the kitchen or even going to the restroom, sweat would be
dripping from her forehead. I thought it was gross. There was times I wouldn t eat
because I thought about gaining weight and sweating all of the time. As I got
older and during school recess I noticed my body would start sweating the harder I
was playing with my friends. At that point, I started to worry and think it was my
weight. I attended a Physical Education class and before we were advised of our
daily activities we talked about being healthy. One of the topics we discussed was
sweat. Sweat is produced by sweat glands in the body, which produce a watery fluid
and fluid containing substances such as proteins and lipids. ... Show more content on

During exercise our body temperature and heart rate is increasing which will cause
the body to produce sweat. The sweat can continue until the body temperature gets
back to normal. I work out at least 4 days out of the week and during exercise I
actually enjoy sweating. It keeps me motivated to keep going and at the end I feel
a whole lot better. It helps me release any build up stress and tension I may have at
the moment. In addition to sweat while exercising being acceptable there s some
foods that you eat that can make you sweat also. Spicy foods! I am not a lover for
spicy foods but every now and then I do enjoy putting hot sauce on my food or getting
hot wings. When I get spicy foods not only do I start sweating but my nose starts
running as well. Sweat is produced when eating spicy food because the substance
capsaicin, which is found in spicy foods, stimulates sensors in the mouth which are
normally involved in sweating. These two ways would be considered acceptable
ways to
Van Gogh And Olive Christ In The Garden Of Olives
Van Gogh got excited over the look of these trees and painted them. Some of his
paintings of the trees represented life, others represented how he felt about Christ in
Gethsemane, and others represented a combination of both of these things. An
example of an art piece that had a lot to do with religion was OliveTrees with Alpilles
in the Background (Fig. 6). This piece was painted with Christ in Gethsemane in
mind. He wanted to create a piece that used a more purer and serence sense of
nature without using religious imagery. With this piece he wanted to show it was
possible to paint the meaning of Christ in the Garden of Olives, the garden of
Gethsemane where Christ prayed the night before his crucifixion, without aiming
straight for the historical Garden of Gethsemane. Vincent had done religious
paintings before, he actually painted Christ in the arden of Olives twice before, but
both times he decided not to paint the images of Christ since, as he said in a letter
to his brother Theo, he did not want to do figures of such importance without a
model. Van Gogh actually had begun to avoid doing religious work around this time
for both aesthetic and moral reasons. Van Gogh had rejected what he believed to be
his parents narrow religionious views and went for a much different view, one where
life itself almost didn t seem to matter of have purpose, something close to Nihilism.
Vincent instead tried to find meaning in the cycles of nature and how they related to

How Can I Make Money From Home With Affiliate Marketing It really is Quick and
Basic
In the event you break it down, affiliate marketing indicates absolutely nothing more
than selling somebody else s product, service or business opportunity for profit.
Your job would be to basically promote the product and make a sale. This can be
normally completed by means of setting up a website or perhaps a blog and posting
different reviews, tutorials, videos along with other content that delivers value to
those probably to become customers considering and understanding much more
regarding the products you re providing.
Among the list of the fastest, easiest techniques to acquire would be to go setup a
free WordPress blog. There is no expense and you can possess a nice blog setup and
prepared to start promoting within minutes. Later you may wish to consider finding
a domain name and hosting a blog yourself as this puts you in total control of all of
the content you produce and what you ll do with it.
What most prime affiliates will advocate is when starting out you select a subject
that you know a good deal about. If you have a hobby, that s an excellent place to
start.
It is possible to write articles about your hobby and portion of the study will be to
discover products that you simply can sell associated to your main subject.

that lead to His articulation and defense of conservative ideals against the dominant

and spark plug of the movement, which took on various organizational forms over

There are three stages of alcoholism. As many people know, alcoholism can take
years to develop. Alcoholism begins when drinking starts affecting the physical and
mental health of the drinker they have crossed that invisible line into alcoholism.
The early stages of alcoholism usually go unnoticed by not only friends and family
but also the drinker. A person begins drinking in this stage for new reasons such as
daily stress or a personal or professional problem. They may drink to change their
mood or avoid the one they are currently feeling.
In the intermediate stage the drinker no longer needs a reason to drink. They may
even fabricate reasons to drink. He or she is now drinking way over socially

In July 28, 2015, a letter was addressed at the International Joint Conference on
Artificial Intelligence at Argentina that petitioned for a ban on weapons and war
machinery that were controlled by artificial intelligence. Its rapidly increasing
research and growth posed a threat to the safety of humanity and its beneficial value.
The letter openly stated that technology had reached a point where the creation of
autonomous machines would be reachable in a matter of years. Letting the
development continue could possibly result in the mass production of these weapons
and accessible to all kinds of civilians and malicious forces such as terrorists and
dictators. Thus, the 2500+ researchers who agreed with the letter said that they find no

However, these machines have been given an increasing amount of freedom such
as a 24/7 watch for intruders, unlike humans, and the ability to shoot at their own
will. The topic of giving these machines a certain degree of freedom and moral
value has been a subject of controversy. Should machines be given free will beyond
human control? Many researches and philosophers like Patrick Lin spoke against
the issue of the letter, saying that it is a useful letter of awareness, but nobody can
predict whether robots will gain full autonomy in the future. (Lin qtd. in Knight
Par.8) While the idea of preserving human lives, the danger of robots given their
free will could result in more than the deaths of the adversary, but also innocent
civilians. The liberty of the robots will make them persons and not necessarily
comply with our demands, since their freedom is superior to our control. In what
follows, I will argue that war robots are not persons and should not be given a
higher level of autonomy and moral value and that humans should keep them under
control. Robots reduce the need for humans in combat and therefore save the lives
of soldiers, sailors and pilots. What parent would send their child into a war zone if
a robot could do the job instead? (Parkin Par. 8) Certainly, human lives are fragile
and are not finite, but one must not forget to consider
The Effects Of The BP Oil Spill
On April 20, 2010, a massive offshore drilling rig, known as the Deepwater
Horizon, exploded and set fire. The results were devastating. Eleven people lost
their lives, and approximately seventeen were injured ( BP Oil Spill Timeline ). The
explosion caused oil pipes to rupture and spill thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf
of Mexico. The BP oil spillhas since turned into one of the worst disasters in recent
memory. The damage that it has caused is insurmountable, and it has taken its toll on
a wide range of people (Walsh). Making Matters worse, the spill has spawned many
controversies (Lustgarten). The question, however, remains the same: Why did this
happen in the first place?
The BP Oil Spill is the result of a series of events that eventually led to thousands of
barrels of petroleum leaking into the Gulf. In early September, BP released a report
that analyzed the events leading up to the accident. The report states that the fire
was caused by a release of hydrocarbons from the well, and then onto the oil rig (BP
Internal Investigation Team). The Deepwater horizon was equipped with failsafe
mechanisms in case anything went wrong. The problem is that they all failed as
well. Once the rig sank, it caused three breaks in the pipes. That is when the spill
occurred. There were multiple chances to stop this. And they all failed, says

Island (Walsh)

The purpose of this lab is to tune your senses of sight and sound.
Introduction:
Sound is created when energy travels as waves of pressure through matter such as air,
water, or even solid materials. Virtually everything that vibrates can yield sound.
When something oscillates it pushes the particles around it, and those particles in
turn push the air particles around them, moving the pulse of the vibration in all
directions from the source. Sight is created when light bounces off an object, and
refracted from the cornea and the lens and an image is focused on the retina.

The Soviet Union And The United States
Due to the onset of the Cold War and the early 1960s, the popular and political
climate in the United States changed. The relationship between the Soviet Union
and the United States was directed by ideological, political and technological
factors. The rivalry between the two powers rooted from their contrasting
ideological principles since the United States was a democratic republic where the
people believed that every citizen had equal representation in the government and the
Soviet Union was a communist nation. The US embodied the principles of a
democratic nation believing in the ideals of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness as
well as having an economy that was based on capitalism. In contrast to the ideology
of the US, the Soviet Union fell under communist rule during the Russian Revolution
of 1917, which was based on the idea that all assets should be owned by the
government and then divided among the citizens of the nation. The Soviet Union
took communisma step further as the many of the leaders were totalitarian during the
20th century, meaning that all power was in the hands of the ruler . In 1946,
Churchill declared the separation between the east and west by saying that an iron
curtain had descended through the middle of Europe (Churchill Delivers Iron Curtain
Speech 1). Even though the Soviets and the US fought together in WWII, the eastern
communistic ideology had clashed with western democratic principles. Furthermore,
the two powers were in a nuclear
Philosophy And Practices Of Religion
The idea, concept, and practices of religion have never really been something that
is of importance to me during my life. For the longest time I did not identify as any
certain or specific religion and when asked I would simply state how I was not a
religious person. It was not until high school when I discovered the religionof
Agnosticism. In our English class we had to research different religions and our
group received Agnosticism. Before then I had never heard of that religion, but
after learning about Agnosticism it pretty much summed up how I feel and what I
believe about God and religion. Basically Agnosticism entails that the person
believes that the existence of God is uncertain and claims neither a faith nor a
disbelief in God. I feel like this religion perfectly sums up how I feel when it comes
to my faith and ideas about God and just religion as a whole. Since I am not a
religious type of person, the idea of me choosing another one that I would be a part
of seems like a difficult task. When I do think about the various religions that I have
studied, written, and read about during the course of this semester there is one that
stands out to me. If I had to choose another religion to join instead of my own, I
would join Buddhismbecause their fundamental principles and values are those that
I can agree with and their ultimate purpose in life is something I can see myself
believing in as well. To begin, in the Buddhist religion there are various principles and
The Characteristics Of Insects
Insects can be found all around the world. There are many insects of numerous types.
Insects can affect other organisms in different ways. Some types of insects can be
beneficial to the life of different organisms. Other types of insects can be harmful to
organisms. There are many characteristics of insectsthat include the attraction to other
organisms such as humans, plants, and animals. The attraction to other organisms has
made humans want to find ways to repel insects. The repelling of insects can make
other organisms unaffected by these creatures. This means the organisms will not
receive any types of benefits or harm.
There are many different characteristics of the body of insects. Insects have the skills
and ability to make observations and communicate the things that are observed. These
organisms usually have six legs. Some insects use these legs for jumping. Other
insects use these legs for walking. Many insects use the legs for both jumping and
running. Most insects have antennas. The antennas are usually positioned on the head
of the insect. Around the body of the insect, there is an exoskeleton. An exoskeleton
is a hard shell that shelters the body. Insects usually have wings. The wings are used
to give the insects the ability to fly. The wings are also used to camouflage insects
from predators and protect the body. These are just a small number of details about
the body.
Insects can be attracted to many different things. Many of these attractions are to
Dame Burnell Research Paper
For me, being a role model was important, just to show there are women doing
science, enjoying it and being good at it. Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell said that
herself. Dame Burnell was and is one of the most important astrophysicists and
astronomers from the 20th century. She has had an amazing life, with revolutionary
work. It is appropriate for her to be retired now. Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell was
born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on July 15th, 1942. Her parents (who are both
deceased) are M. Allison Bell, her mother, and G. Philip Bell, her father, who was an
architect. Her father co designed the Armagh Planetarium. That s when she found her
father s books on astronomy. She spent the rest of her kid years and her teen years in

Originally, girls were not allowed to study science until parents and students
boycotted that policy. In 1965, Dame Bell Burnell graduated from the University
of Glasgow with a BSc degree in Natural Philosophy. In 1969, she graduated from
the University of Cambridge with a PhD degree in Natural Philosophy. At
Cambridge, she attended New Hall. She worked with Anthony Hewish and others
to make a 81.5 radio telescope, which she also operated. It was used to study the
recently discovered quasars (distant objects powered by black holes a billion times
as massive as our sun), by using interplanetary scintillation (radio counterpart of
optical twinkling of stars). In 1967, she found what she described as a bit of scruff
on her chart recorder papers. Dame Bell Burnell discovered that the signal was
pulsating consistently and regularly. What was temporarily called Little Green
Man 1 (now called PSR B1919+21), was really a speedily rotating neutron star. She
had helped discover pulsars. This was reported by the BBC Horizon series. A big
controversy in the science world that included Dame Bell Burnell was the 1974
Nobel Peace Prize in Physics. Not only did she build, create, and operate the radio
Analysis Of Amanda Lohrey s Vertigo
Through distinctive images composers develop interest, drawing the responder in and
thus providing insight into the experiences of others. This is demonstrated in
Amanda Lohrey s novella Vertigo as Luke and Anna find themselves in a new and
disorientating environment as they attempt to build a new life and in the The Red
Tree composed by Shaun Tan, through the namelessgirl s journey as she attempts to
find herself and her place in the world. Meaning created by distinctive images creates
interest thus permitting the responder to gain a greater understanding on how the
experiences help shape one s self.

Despite an expanded outlook on the world, Luke and Anna find themselves in a
place of vertigo as they struggle to come to terms with the harsh world that is
Garra Nulla. The metaphor some days she feels like a fly caught in an invisible
web establishes a visual of one who is confined by their negative experiences,
unable to escape, whereas the description of an invisible web depicts an image of an
unexpected challenge that has impacted on Anna s initially idealistic view of country
living. However, despite the couple s dislocation and the destructive yet regenerative
bushfires an overall feeling of hope at the end of the novella is reassuring. Lohrey
delineates this through the symbolisation of the black swans at the closing stage of
the novella. Look , she says, the swans are back. Representing a return to normality
in their world as the re emergence of the swans metaphorically represents the
return of hope. The omniscient narrator reveals Anna s inner dialogue Ah, she says
so you are leaving us. So you are on your way at last. But it s okay, it s alright; yes,
she thinks, I am ready for this... displaying that they are finally able to attain comfort
over the grief of losing their son. Despite Anna s and Luke s negative experiences,
the responder attains a feeling of reassurance as through the distinctive images
created we observe a return to normality and ultimately a positive feeling of
The Failure of California s Proposition 19
Cannabis, also known as Marijuana, has been used by humans throughout history
for medical, recreational, as well as spiritual purposes. Its fiber, oil, and seed are
also refined into products such as hemp oil, wax, rope, cloth, and paper (Agriculture
and Agri Food Canada, 2013, para. 1). With 56% voters overwhelming supported for
medical cannabis, California became the first state in the United Statesto pass Prop
215 in 1996 ensuring the patients and their primary caregivers to have the right to
obtain and use marijuana for medical purpose (California Department of Public
Health, 2013, Text of Law section, para. 1). Right after the U.S. Department of
Justice announced in March 2009 that it would no longer prosecute marijuana
patients and providers whose actions are consistent with state medical marijuana
laws (Meyer Glover, 2009, para. 1), political windows suddenly opened for
California marijuana reform advocates to push for legalizing the recreational use of
marijuana. As a result, California Proposition 19, the Regulate, Control Tax
Cannabis Act, became a ballot initiative on November 2, 2010 statewide ballot.
Supporters argued that legalizing creational use of marijuana would help California
to regulate the use and sale of marijuana, reduce correctional costs, redirect its court
and law enforcement resources to other more serious crimes, and collect additional
exercise taxes and sales taxes that would help with California s budget shortfall. In

Demographic Transition Theory For Social Security And...
This paper will define demographic transition theory; analyze the implication of the
funding and availability for social security and adequate health care for seniors and
the work and retirement challenges that seniors face.
The demographic transition theory is a widespread explanation of the changing mold
of humanity, fertility and increase rates as civilizations move from one demographic
system to another. The term was first coined by the American demographer Frank W.
Notestein in the mid twentieth century, but it has since been elaborated and expanded
upon by many others (The Demographic Transition, 2012). There are four stages of
demographic transition.
The first stage of the demographic transition is called pre industrial. In this stage, the
population is stable. The birth and death rates are both high. The death rates are at a
high due to the increase of disease, poor medical and personal hygiene care along
with the limited supplies of food. With the death rates being high, people are having
more babies to help with mortality rates being so high. With the birth and death rates
being equal, the population growth stays at a zero.
The second stage of the demographic transition theory is called the transitional stage.
In this state the population starts to increase. This happens because the birth rates are
high and the death rates are starting to decline. The second stage is when the
development of modern medicine and food distribution is started to take hold and
Driving, Distractions and Accidents
There could be so many distractions while driving. For example, driving to a friend
s house and suddenly the phone goes off. Thinking you ll be fine to text back
because the road is just going straight down, but then all of a sudden something
unexpected happens. An accident, an accident caused by a simple text. Texting
while behind the wheel looses focus, taking eyes off the wheel and it has a high
risk factor. Driving while texting is a very dangerous and serious issue that
distracts everyone no matter what the age is. A few people thing they can text and
drive because they are supposedly expert drivers. Or they can text without looking
at their phones, and they might think it is safe for them but consequently it is not.
Just because the persons eyes are not on the phone doesn t mean they didn t loose
their focus on the road. They could be thinking if they spelled everything right, or
if the automatic correct spelling is the word they actually meant. Their main focus
is mentally on the text message they relieved. For example, thinking about what to
write for the text can probably cause a blind site on the road. You can always just
pass a red light or almost run someone over because you are not looking all around
you. Just because certain people have been driving for years does not make them
an expert driver. A simple text is not worth loosing your life or someone else.
Texting while driving is like drinking and driving. But I believe texting and driving
is a

Loss Of Innocence In Jane Eyre
In the 1800s, the idea of a lowly governess marrying a rich estate owner was absord,
if not impossible. However, this is precisely what the protagonist in Charlotte
BrontГ« s novel, Jane Eyre did through her fiery persistence and passion. Jane grew
up in her aunt s house, Gateshead, where she was unwanted by even the servants.
However, when Jane is ten years old she is sent a way to a boarding school for girls
called Lowood, which is led by an extremely hypocritical Mr. Brocklehurst. After
spending 6 years as a student and 2 years as a teacher at Lowood she finds a job as a
governessfor a French girl at an estate named Thornfield. Jane slowly but surely

John, Diana, and Mary. While Jane finds true friendship in Diana and Mary, St.
John is cold, and has an extremely negative effect on Jane s livelihood. While Jane
and St. John are in the middle of an argument Jane tries to convince St. John to tell
him something he has been hiding from her: But I apprised you that I was a hard
man, said he, And I am a hard woman impossible to put off. And then, he pursued, I
am cold: no fervor infects me. Whereas I am hot, and fire dissolves ice. The blaze
there has thawed all the snow from your cloak (416). While St. John and Jane can
be quite similar in their stubbornness and their passion for what they believe in, St.
John is cold, and acts completely on logic and what he believes is right, while Jane
has impulsive tendencies and thinks one should balance emotion with spiritual
morals. This divide between them proves to cause even more problems in the
future, when St. John attempts to convince Jane to accompany him to India. One
day, when he is teaching her Hindustani Jane realizes, He acquired a certain
influence over me that took away my liberty of mind...I could no longer talk or
laugh freely...vivacity (at least in me) was distasteful...I fell under a freezing spell.
When he said go, I went: come, I came, do this, I did it. But I did not love my
servitude (432). The effect St. John has on Jane is strong enough to completely
take away her fiery personality and replace it with his own icy and emotionless
one. While Jane was at Thornfield with Mr. Rochester she happily called him her
master and was eager to serve him. However, while at Moor House with St. John
she dreads the servitude with him because instead of enhance her passion, he
extinguishes it. If it wasn t for her the close companionship she found in Diana and
Mary, St. John s coldness might have put out Jane s fire
Special Accommodations For Pregnant Women
Do you think employers need to give pregnant women special accommodations?
I do not think an employer needs to provide special accommodations to a woman
who is pregnant, but I would encourage that employer to make accommodations
when necessary. When my wife was pregnant her company provided her with an
ergonomic chair and keyboard for her desk. The accommodation was both
beneficial to my wife and to the employer because she was still productive and it
allow her to continue with regular duties. I know these types of accommodation are
not possible for all jobs and there will be times when no accommodations are
possible. Other options might be for the woman who is pregnant to bring in her own
chair or foot rest that would help to make her
Questions and Answers on A Career as an Engineer
Please, briefly tell me about yourself and your educational background.
I am an ambitious and well driven woman who believes in herself. After finishing my
high school l went to Vaal university of Technology for my diploma, University of
Pretoria for my degree in engineering, and then Sorbonne University for my masters
in engineering.
What first draw you to study engineering?
It has always been a passion in my life to work with electricity and electronic
devices. When l was young l used to fix and repair adapters, radios and TVs. Being
accepted to the engineering faculty was just a continuation of the dream that l begun
when l was young.
Which year of study was the most challenging, and why?
Probably, my first year was horrible because l was less prepared for university
studies. I missed most classes; fell behind in class, and l was very uncertain about
whether l was following the right career path.
What do you enjoy least or most about engineering?
I hate those long hours figuring out a solution to a problem that seems impossible to
decode.
Why should one become an engineer?
Engineering is a challenging, high paying career. If you have up to date engineering
skills, jobs are abundant. Engineering jobs often come with flexible hours, location
flexibility, and the hard skills you learn translate easily to new positions
What are some reasons one should not become an engineer?
In my opinion, you should never take a job simply

He used more than one frame. He used an outcome frame when stating his
preferences, and a characterization frame when stating that he viewed Marilyn s team
as not ready to handle viable accounts.
What do you project the outcome of the first exchange to be?
Because resources are fixed and limited, both used distributive bargaining strategies
and tactics. Both appear to be competing with each other. I project a win lose for
Len. Marilyn tried to get Len to reduce his resistance point by reminding him that
they had made an agreement, and that she was expecting him to commit to it. Her
strategy was shortsighted because she didn t anticipate the frame they would be
using, or the frame Len would be using. Len elected to reframe his position on the
basis of power, using Joe as leverage, which was done intentionally, since Marilyn s
challenges seemed to fuel his creativity.
Part C: Were Marilyn s objectives achieved in the second exchange?
Yes. Marilyn used an active engagement strategy that persuaded Len to reveal his
target and resistance points. She got Len to see that their goals are not mutually
exclusive, and that they need to work on a transfer schedule that results in a win win.
She used key steps in the integrative negotiation process to shift the tone and focus of
the exchange. She defined the problem, stated it as a goal, and avoided stating
solutions that favored her side only, until they could meet with Joe to examine

The Los Angeles Intervention Approach
The Los Angeles intervention approach produces positive and negative attributes to
combating gang related criminality. Gangs in society today, are problematic in many
aspects. There are many different avenues city officials can take to combat or reduce
gang related crime. Various methodologies have been used to take on this problem
and have had successful results (Spergel,1986). The general idea is that if gang
members will not respond to ordinary social agency programs, then the programs
must move out to the streets in order to achieve change (Klein,1965, p3. 183). Law
enforcement takes on a tremendous role in reducing crimeand ensuring public safety.
Gang related crime is a prominent adversary for not only local communities, but
our brave men and women. obviously they are having a tough time reducing gang
s jurisdiction as seen in Chicago and other large cities. One of the many problems
they face is going into the gang s battlefields where bullets are being fired and yet
protect themselves also. As one of the interviewees in Scotts article said, it would
take the police at least an hour to come to his neighborhood when firearms are being
fired (Scott, 2004, p.119). Theoretically, it is impossible for law enforcement to stop
individuals from committing gang related crime if they are not nearby to see what is
taking place. Intervention of gang violence can not be law enforcement alone. The
Los Angelescity sanctioned gang intervention workers initially produces

The Pros And Cons Of Cheating
Cheating is more common in schools nowadays than teachers think. According to a
study done by Donald McCabe, 64 percent of students admitted to cheating on a test,
58 percent admitted to plagiarism and 95 percent said they participated in some form
of cheating, whether it was on a test, plagiarism or copying homework . There are
various ways to cheat. Whether it be looking at another student s paper during a test
or getting someone to send their homework answers, students do it constantly. The
school can not catch everyone that cheats and students are so desperate to maintain a
good GPA that cheatingis not seen as something bad in student s eyes. The way that
the school system is now is students would rather do whatever it takes to make a
good grade than to learn the material. It is not just one specific grade of students
that cheat or one particular group that does either. Cheating ranges from freshmen
to seniors and various different school organizations that students are involved in.
I have seen kids on the football team send screenshots of their math homework and
even students in IB classes do the same exact thing. Every kid has a different
reason for cheating, but they all connect to the same thing which is trying to make
a good grade. Some students may be too lazy to do their own homework and have a
friend that is willing to send them the homework answers every night. All they have
to do is copy the answers down and they make a perfect grade

Evite De Peron Analysis
Arguably the most politically controversial and influential women in Argentine
history, and Spiritual Leader of the nation, Maria Eva Duarte de Peron (1919
1952) and much of the history of her life is subject to substantial bias due to a
myriad of anti Peronist propaganda during the Peron s regime, as Marysa Navarro
states you were either for her, or against her . Although there is a consensus to a
monumental sum of the facts apropos to Eva Peron s life, the subject of discourse is
rather in the interpretations and perceptions of her life, such as her reasons for the
creation of the Eva Peron Foundation, how she came the her prominence, and her
purpose and goals. The orthodox view of Eva was formed directly after her death and
entails an image of promiscuity, manipulation, greed, and hunger for power and
revenge. However, towards the end of the twentieth century, revisionists refined this
interpretation, diminishing the negative portrayal; creating a less biased presentation.
The orthodox interpretation may be accredited to the Argentinian historian and author

however, must be read and analysed with substantial scepticism and vigilance.
Keeping in mind that Main was born to an upper class family in Argentina, it is likely
that this influenced her perception of Eva before she began writing her book. This
is due to the Eva Peron Foundation, through which Eva and Juan taxed many of the
luxuries only available to the middle and upper classes of Argentinian society, also
known as the oligarchy. This inevitably caused substantial resentment for the socialist
views of the Peronist movement and its leaders, Juan and Eva. Additionally, it is
likely that this is also the cause of Mains extreme criticism of the Eva Peron
Foundation and her targeting of Eva, deeming her as promiscuous as an attempt to of
Transient Global Amnesia
Transient Global Amnesia and Sleep
This paper will discuss whether Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is or is not
induced by our sleep patterns and quality of sleep. Per the Journal of Clinical Sleep
Medicine (JCSM), Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is defined as a temporary
memory loss characterized by an abrupt onset of anterograde (AGA) and retrograde
amnesia (RA). In other words, TGA occurs when there is a sudden occurrence of both
Anterograde amnesia and retrograde amnesia at the same time. As defined by the
JCSM, anterograde amnesia is the acute inability to retain new information and
retrograde amnesia is the significant reduction in the ability to recall past events.

But can consolidation of memories be affected in the same way? In studies that
concentrated on how Benzodiazepines (a substance used as a sleep aid and an anti
anxiety medicine) affected the quality of sleep and memory of events that happen
during interrupted sleep periods. Subjects fell back asleep rather quickly, but
come morning, had much trouble recalling the tasks they were given to complete
earlier in the night. In studies that looked at memory between wake and sleep,
researchers presented undergraduate students a verbal word as they drifted off into
sleep. But of course, to ensure sleepiness the students were limited to two hours of
sleep the night prior to the experiment. Researchers used an electroencephalograph
(EEG), which is a tool to determine one s position in the wake to sleep cycle. Using
the EEG researchers determined when their subjects were asleep then either
allowed them short periods of sleep or long periods before waking them. Once
their subjects were woken up, they tested their memory through recognition.
Results showed that the subjects who experienced short periods of sleep did, in
fact, the memory test. In contrast, the subjects that could sleep for a longer period,
in this case, ten minutes, had a greater difficulty remembering the word relayed to
them in the five minutes prior to them falling asleep. These results were interpreted
as an interruption of the transfer of the memory from short term to long term
storage. Thus, the memory was in a sense erased and was unavailable to be
recalled. This difficulty is an example of RA, as has been defined, and as an
example of RA being induced by interruptions in the quality of sleep. However, if
subjects were aroused in any way as they drifted off to sleep and were read their
words, then it could be that AGA has been induced. What this fails to conclude
however is if both

I am reading To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee and I am on page 207. This
book is about Atticus gets a trial of a black man and the whole town hates it. Jem
and Scout are growing up. Aunt Alexandra does not like how Atticus raises these
children so she comes to move in and help. In this paper I will be evaluating.
I will be evaluating that Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra.
There are many reasons that Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra.
One reason is that Calpurnia brought Jem and Scout to church with her. Calpurnia
had asked them if they would like to attend church with her, they happily said yes.
Bringing them to church with her really shows Calpurnia s love for these children
because although they are not her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calpurnia has lots of courage bring white children to her black church. People at her
church would ask her why she is bringing white children in this church but she would
tell them that they behave and that she takes quality care of Jem and Scout.
Calpurnia would not be judged by the fact that she was bringing white children inti
her church she just held her head up high. She brought them to her Church because
she truly loves Jem and Scout and knows her church is a good one, so she wants
them to learn good faith. Another reason Calpurnia is a better mother figure than
Aunt Alexandra is because Calpurnia tells Scout she can always come in the
kitchen if Jem is being mean to her. Calpurnia knows that Jem is getting older and
that at times he can be very mean so when this happens she tells Scout she can
always come in the kitchen. Calpurnia really loves Scout and is happy to always
cheer her up and bond with her in the kitchen. When Scout can be sad her long talks
with Calpurnia can cheer her up, it makes Calpurnia feel good to cheer Scout up also.
There kitchen talks lead to crying, laughing, talking but eventually
I Am Not My Hair
It was December 2006, I was nine years old, and that was the first time I had ever
heard India Arie s songs; Video I Am Not My Hair . While both of these songs are
inspired by rhythm blues, and Neo Soul, their overarching meanings are somewhat
different. Video , is a powerful self love anthem; in this song, India Arie celebrates
who she is naturally, and acknowledges that she would not change who she is. I Am
Not My Hairis more complex because while it acknowledges the versatility of
Black hair, it also pushes the idea that one s hair does not define who you are as a
person. While I Am Not My Hair seems to push Black hairstyles to the background,
I want to argue that both I Am Not My Hair and Video are songs that celebrate the
idea that black is beautiful . In this paper, by focusing on, India Arie s references to
black hair and self love, I intend to draw connections between these two songs and
the Civil Rights/Black Power movements as well as the concept that black is
beautiful. To draw these connections, I will focus on Nina Simone s song, Black is
the Color of My True Love s Hair . Does I Am Not My Hair take away from the
symbol that the Afro was during the 1960 s, representing black is beautiful? What
can be understood by India Arie writing these two songs during a time when it
appeared that blackness was not as celebrated? How is this similar or different from
Nina Simone s song? In this paper, I will focus on these questions in order to analyze
Cows Research Paper
Cows: Pets That Make Sense If you ask me, the only possible pet a person should
have is a cow. Cows love you, they are harmless, they look nice, they don t need a
litter box, and they keep the grass down. Cows are so trusting that you can t help
but lose your heart to them. Where I live, in Yorkshire, there is a herd of cows
down the lane. You can stand by the wall any hour of the day or night and pretty
soon the cows will all waddle over to stand nearby. They aren t smart enough to
know what to do next, but they seem to be happy just to be in your presence. Mired
in their contentedness, they will stand there indefinitely. They will listen to your
problems and never ask for a thing in return. Cows will be your friends forever, and

Does Lyddie Sign The Petition
Have you ever wondered what it s like to work in a factory? Imagine dust, lint,
smoke, and noise all in one crowded room. This is what Lyddie Worthen in the
book, Lyddie, by Katherine Paterson has to face. Lyddie has faced many hardships
when working in the factory. Lyddie is a young girl who is sent off to work to pay
the debts for her family. Lyddie was fired from her first job and went to Lowell,
Massachusetts to be a factory girl. When working, there are poor working conditions.
Other workers have started a petition to improve the working conditions. Lyddie
should not signthe petition because she is mentally strong and is getting paid well.

Lyddie is struggling to breathe and is exhausted. This leads some to say that she
must sign the petition. However, signing the petition could get her fired which will
make it almost impossible to reunite back with her family. When talking to her
roommates, Lyddie shares her own opinion on signing the petition. When talking,
her roommates mention that if you sign the petition they wouldn t have to work
longer. She says, But we d be paid less (Paterson 91). This quote shows that signing
the petition can decrease her payment which would make it even longer to reunite
with her family. When Betsy finishes reading to Lyddie they talk about what they
heard lately. Unfortunately, Lyddie has the possibility of getting blacklisted
(Paterson 81). This quote shows that if she gets fired for signing the petition she
could get blacklisted, which means that no other mills would hire her. Being
blacklisted makes it difficult to reunite back with her family. It s tough working in
the factory but Lyddie is strong enough to keep on working and
The Simpsons, Family Guy, Aladdin, And All The Scary
Movie...
There are many movies, books, and TV shows that make fun of evil. The
Simpsons, Family Guy, Aladdin, and all the Scary Movie movies. There are
numerous ways in which each makes fun of evil. Scary Movie alone uses numerous
ways to mock evil, and turns all these scary, evil things into something to laugh
about. Aladdin has people who are supposed to be evil, and come up with all these
ideas to destroy good, but it always turns around on the evil people and works out for
good. The Simpsonshas an episode where Homer sells his soul for a doughnut, and
another episode where Homer kills Death. These TV shows and movies have
something in common though, and that is the way they belittle evil. Most will have
good triumph over evil which, models Augustinian theodicy. Why do many TV shows
and movies ridicule evil? It could be any number of reasons. Perhaps people didn t
want to fear it anymore, and thus, belittled it and took away its power over people.
Maybe it is for any other number of reasons. However, no matter the reason, these
numerous TV shows and movies afore mentioned, mock evil.
In Aladdin, there is a parrot named Iago. Iago is voiced by Gilbert Gottfried and
appeared in the first film as the sidekick to the main antagonist Jafar, and later
becomes one of the protagonists for the rest of the franchise s run. He even leaves
Jafar, and goes on to try to cause chaos on his own while singing I m Looking out
for Me. First, the fact one of the main antagonists is a small
Driving Cars Are On The Way
Self driving cars are on the way. Soon, you ll be able to purchase a fully autonomous
vehicle, jump in and leave the driving to computers. Play games, read a book or
recline your seat and nap your self driving car will transport you safely to your
journey s end.
Autonomous driving features such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist
are already included in many new vehicles, offering motorists a harbinger of what s
to come.
By 2020, the first fully autonomous vehicles are expected to deploy on America s
roadways. Consumers, however, are not sharing the same enthusiasm owned by self
driving proponents of autonomous vehicle technology. Indeed, three out of four
Americans surveyed by AAA say that they are afraid to ride in a self driving vehicle.
Decades of Autonomous Vehicle Testing
Before we examine the AAA survey, we need to gain context based on background.
Experiments on self driving vehicles have been ongoing for decades. For example,
beginning in the 1980s, a German researcher at a Munich university, Ernst Dickmanns
, built the world s first robotic car. Those earlier models required human intervention
to control engine throttle and braking. By 1995, Dickmanns team launched the first
fully autonomous vehicle, a Mercedes Benz S Class and inaugurated it on a 1,000
mile round tripper from Munich to Denmark and back, including nearly 100 miles of
human free control.(2)
That watershed mission was accomplished without incident and led to other
Oxidative Stress Case Study
Oxidative stress significantly contributes to IR associated cellular toxicity and
utilization of antioxidants can mitigate such toxicity which induced by IR [34]. In
our study, it was observed that the IR exposure revealed a marked nephrotoxicity
that was evidenced by a significant elevation in serum levels of urea and creatinine
which reflects a marked impairment of the kidney function. Such results were
reported by the previous studies [35], which documented that serum levels of urea
and creatinine are good markers of nephrons functional capacity. However, the serum
level of creatinine is a more indicative than the urea concentration in the first phases
of kidney disease, while the level of urea begins to increase only after the... Show

Similar data have been reported previously by Elkady and Ibrahim [36] and
Kutanis et al. [40]. Meanwhile, pretreatment of HMB prior to IR exposure
increased the antioxidant levels and decreased the levels of MDA when compared
with IR exposed rats. These results showed that HMB attenuated IR induced lipid
peroxidation and that was compatible with the study of Rao et al. [22] who
suggested that the decrease in MDA concentration could be due to the ability of
HMB to scavenge secondary reactive radicals or to prevent the formation of
superoxide or hydrogen peroxide in response to IR exposure. It was stated that
HMB is a potent ONOO_ scavenger that can protect the cells against peroxy nitrite
induced diseases [41]. Along these lines, the reaction between O2В· and NO may
be diminished by the activity of HMB, whereas the enzyme catalyzed reaction by
SOD would debilitate in this manner thus, the SOD can be maintained. It was
reported that HMB can reduce hydroxyl radical and presumably repress the
formation of H2O2 in the reaction chain, which may at last prompt the maintaining
of intracellular GSH levels [18, 42, 43]. Antioxidant, activity of HMB in our
investigation, may be ascribed to the phenolic nature of HMB which could have
prompted free radicals scavenging [18]. However, the
Microorganisms Lab Report
Introduction
Life on this planet began with microorganisms. Through millions of years
microorganisms have found ways to successfully adapt and survive. These
adaptations have created a wide biodiversity, allowing them to basically populate in
all places. Why are these microbes so important? Because they shape the history of
our world. Some microbes can be deathly to humans while some others are favorable,
for example, bacteria that lives in the gut of both humans and animals and helps
during the process of digestion (Alfred Brown Heidi Smith, 2006). Understanding
these interactions help scientists to find ways to protect humans from potential
deathly pathogens. In order to observe microbes, microscope proficiency and
microorganisms identification are crucial skills in a microbiology lab. During this
laboratory session, samples of environmental and human organisms were inoculated
into two different rich media and incubated to their according temperature. After this,
appropriate use and calibration of the microscope was performed. Lastly,
morphology and size of different species of bacteria, algae, fungi and protozoan were
recorded.
Materials and Methods
Nutrient Broth and Nutrient Agar were used to inoculate bacteria taken from
different surfaces. Nutrient agar plate was inoculated with a sample taken from skin
surface. A sterile cotton swab was first immersed on sterile water, then, rubbed
against the skin with swirling motion and transferred to an agar plate by rubbing
Mid-Term Break
Mid Term Break Seamus Heaney On my first Sonne Ben Jonson Which poem
expresses the experience of grief best?
On my first Sonne is a very direct way of expressing the grief that occurs when a
child in the family dies. It is about the feelings that
Ben Jonson goes through, and the poem describes his emotions and thoughts in
detail. On the other hand, Mid Term Break uses indirect ways to portray grief, by
describing events that happen after the death. Farewell, thou child . On my first
Sonne openly addresses the deceased boy in the poem. The poem is to him, and
about him. Ben
Jonson uses faith to help him through the bereavement. Biblical phrases ( child of
my right hand , my sinne was and all his vowes )

Mid term break is overall more subtle in its approaches to express grief. It describes
the events surrounding the death, not the emotions the poet went through. Grief is
also brought out through the choice of words; for example knelling . Knell is a
word used to describe the ringing of death bells, but not school bells.
The narrative in the first stanza takes a detached and spaced out rhythm. This shows
the shock that has hit the poet, and how he has distanced himself from the tragic
event. Through the whole poem, the rhythm remains slow, revealing how the poet
feels unsure and isolated.
as my mother held my hand / in hers and coughed out angry tearless sighs These
lines show the grief, that Seams Heaney cannot express alone, being expressed by his
mother for him.
He mentions his father crying in the fourth line because it is so out of the ordinary
that he has to mention it. This in itself shows some of the shock of the event, and
how he is frightened by the change. It was a hard blow has overtones of a heavy
impact, as in the accident and as the emotions that follow.
The corpse is such in line 15 that it is unrecognisable; it is no longer his brother, but a
corpse. So great is the disorientation surrounding being plucked suddenly from school
into a surreal environment, he does not have time to contemplate his brother, and so
the corpse remains as an unnamed, staunched body.
In this poem, the
Flying Spaghetti Monster Research Paper
The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (often shortened to FSM), also known as
the Pastafarian Church, and Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, was created in 2005 after a
letter protesting the teaching of intelligent design in schools, written by Prophet
Bobby Henderson, was posted online. Since that time, The FSM has gained much
internet fame and what Henderson estimates to be millions, if not thousands . The
Church is founded on the belief that the world was created by the benevolent and
undetectable mythical being known as the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It is commonly
believed by members that, after drinking heavily, he created the world in four days,
starting with a mountain, a tree, and a midget, later creating a wench for the midget,
whom all humans are descended from. The church states that their envisionment of

1), which represents their value of pirates, and a simplified image of the FSM
Himself (see fig. 2), which is used to identify other members of the church, and also
to parody the Christian fish symbol. These images are often used in Pastafarian
propaganda, which is also the church s main source of income. The language of the
Church is rather unique. Pastafarians almost entirely agree that the more someone
talks using pirate lingo, the more devout a believer they are. Because of this, one of
the Church s few holidays is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, which is celebrated
on September 19th. They also end all prayers, official or invented, with the phrase R
Amen (sometimes written rAmen), as something of a spoof of the phrase Amen .
While an argument could be made that the Church is a counter culture for their desire
to keep intelligent design and other religious teaching out of schools, the Church is
definitively a subculture. They are simply a group of like minded people who have
banded together in their attempts to improve the

  • 1. Essay Identity Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Identity" can be a challenging endeavor, as it requires delving into the complex and multifaceted concept of identity. Identity, in itself, is a broad and abstract theme that encompasses various aspects such as personal, cultural, social, and even existential dimensions. The difficulty lies in navigating through this intricate web of ideas and articulating a coherent and insightful perspective. One of the primary challenges is striking the right balance between personal experiences and broader theoretical frameworks. The essay should not only reflect the author's unique identity but also incorporate relevant theories and concepts from sociology, psychology, and other disciplines. This synthesis demands a nuanced understanding of the subject matter and the ability to connect personal anecdotes to broader societal issues. Furthermore, grappling with the dynamic nature of identity poses its own set of difficulties. Identity is not static; it evolves over time, influenced by experiences, relationships, and societal changes. Capturing this dynamism in a written form requires careful consideration of one's own growth and transformation, as well as an awareness of the external factors shaping identity. Another challenge is avoiding oversimplification or clichГ©d approaches to the topic. Identity is a deeply personal and subjective concept, and reducing it to stereotypes or superficial observations does not do justice to its complexity. Striving for depth and originality while avoiding common pitfalls requires a thoughtful and reflective writing process. In conclusion, tackling the theme of "Essay Identity" demands a blend of self-reflection, academic rigor, and creativity. Navigating the intricacies of identity and presenting a compelling narrative or argument requires a deep understanding of both personal experiences and theoretical frameworks. It's a delicate balancing act that challenges writers to explore the nuances of who they are and how they fit into the broader tapestry of human identity. For assistance with essays or similar assignments, various resources are available, including online writing services. These services can provide guidance, support, and even custom-written essays on a wide range of topics. • 2. A Rhetorical Analysis Of An Email Analysis The email has been evaluated on its use of language and expression, tone and organisation. In analysing the language and expression, the sentence in line 1 the seminar was meant for managers was unnecessary. It may be deciphered by other staff members as being boastful and breed ill feelings. In line 2, boss can be better phrased with higher management in expressing the idea of a higher authority. The evaluation on overall tone was informal and not respectful towards to the recipients. From line 14 to 15, the tone of the sentence was informal in putting across the message of asking his fellow colleagues to cut down on their frequency of checking emails. This would also deem as not respectful by the recipients. In line 18, the use of yap as a slang for yes was unacceptable as well. From line 23 to 25, the phrase by the way should not be used in communicating in workplace. The tone of sentences between line 23 to line 25 was sarcastic and adopts an arrogant attitude towards the recipients. In line 32, the sentence it really works, try it! was not appropriate in a formal email to promote the skills he was sharing. The sentence Too bad I have to miss this one in line 35, was an expression of his feelings which was unnecessary. • 3. The Fall Of The House Of Usher Effect Edgar Allan Poe once said that the artistry of narratives is in the ability to achieve a unity of effect (Clement, lecture notes). His narrative The Fall of the House of Usher, is about a man that gets a letter from an old friend that wants him to go visit because he is sick. When he arrives, he notices that his friend and his sister is not the only one affected by illness, the house is too. That leads to the death of the Ushers and the fall of the house. In The Fall of the House of Usher, Poe makes death and decay, and overall illness, his unity of effect. He establishes this effect through his narrator, the setting of the story, and the tragedy that affects its characters. In this short narrative, there are many textual examples that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This alone gives us the sense that the setting is a somber place. From that brief section of text, we can begin to picture a place that can be taken as being ill and gloomy. The narrator gives us a very vivid description of the atmosphere of the house. For example, when entering he said it was like he breathed an atmosphere of sorrow (The Art of the Short Story, 711). A narratives plot may be the biggest factor in producing an effect. Through the conflict that is presented, the reader is given events that lead them to become interested in the story and its characters. The conflict that takes place in this narrative is that Rodrick Usher, the narrators boyhood friend, is sick and he wants the narrator to go to his estate to visit him. The mystery builds because the illness seems to deadly and it is unclear what exactly is wrong with him. The narrator learned that the entire family lay in the direct line of descent and it did not have any enduring branches (The Art of the Short Story, 709). Although it is not explicitly stated by the Ushers, the reader can infer that the cause of this family s illness is incest that has gone on for many

  • 6. Differences Of Kantianism And Utilitarianism In this paper, I will discuss how Kantianism and Utilitarianism would have oppositional views on the decision to break protocol in order to save a child life. Ethical Dilemma: A child is brought into the emergency department by his mother. The mother is yelling that her child is not breathing. The nurse runs over and takes the child, runs inside the emergency room and yells for a doctor. No doctor has arrived, but another nurse comes into the room and both nurses begin CPR on the child. The nurses talk to one another and agree that the child needed to be intubated immediately in order to survive. However, the doctors were unavailable. The first nurse to respond to the mother decides to intubate the child even though intubation is outside of her scope of practice and she could be fired for performing the intubation. The nurse intubated the child successfully and the child is in a stable condition after the intubation. Utilitarianism: Utilitarianism is a consequentialist philosophy: the righteousness and wrongness of actions dependon the result of the actions, not the intent of the actions. Actions are right if they maximize happiness and decrease pain. It is important to maximize happiness as a collective, not just maximize happiness the pleasure individually. For example, there are opportunities in which sacrificing one s own happiness is acceptable if it results in a greater value of happiness in a community. A Utilitarian can calculate the net worth of actions by calculating the pain and pleasure it each will create. However, during events where there is not enough time for calculation, we can just rely on the rule of thumb, which are basic (common sense) rules, such as not murdering, lying, or cheating. Response to action: An Act Utilitarian would argue that saving the child life was the correct action because the life of a child outweighs the pain that could result if the nurse lost her license. There would be a greater amount of pain if the nurse did not intubate the patient. A child would have died, the mother would have to grieve losing her child, and the healthcare workers would be distraught because they were unable to save the child, even though they had the resources and knowledge to do so.

It was great not having parents around telling you to do your homework or to go to class, of which I never did. I had a choice, which was more important, playing lacrosse or studying. Like any first year college student I picked lacrosse. At that point I didn t realize what I was getting myself into. Who at that age would know either? My worst nightmare came true in the summer of 1989. I was academically dismissed from the university. I gradated with over a 3.0 in my major and was offered a job in Washington D.C. Being dismissed from college was one experience that I have never regretted and never will. I can see why this happened; I was a student athlete, which doesn t mix. Being an athlete in college I had to practice Monday through Saturday, I was always tired, too tired to study and go to class. I did learn a couple things though, sportsmanship, self discipline, teamwork, cooperation, and concentration. Too bad none of these attributes rubbed off on my schooling. The university said that they would help me out with my schoolwork but that was just a lie, one in which they still use today. The school put me into these easy classes which didn t teach me anything except how to fall asleep in class. The university was only worried about winning games and being nationally recognized. They didn t help me when I was doing poorly and even after I was dismissed. After being dismissed I realized a few things, one that the university only cared about my money, another was that everything I did I did for someone else, and that I was accomplishing

When she got up, sat down, walked to the kitchen or even going to the restroom, sweat would be dripping from her forehead. I thought it was gross. There was times I wouldn t eat because I thought about gaining weight and sweating all of the time. Spicy foods! I am not a lover for spicy foods but every now and then I do enjoy putting hot sauce on my food or getting hot wings. • 9. Van Gogh And Olive Christ In The Garden Of Olives Van Gogh got excited over the look of these trees and painted them. Some of his paintings of the trees represented life, others represented how he felt about Christ in Gethsemane, and others represented a combination of both of these things. An example of an art piece that had a lot to do with religion was OliveTrees with Alpilles in the Background (Fig. 6). This piece was painted with Christ in Gethsemane in mind. He wanted to create a piece that used a more purer and serence sense of nature without using religious imagery. With this piece he wanted to show it was possible to paint the meaning of Christ in the Garden of Olives, the garden of Gethsemane where Christ prayed the night before his crucifixion, without aiming straight for the historical Garden of Gethsemane. Vincent had done religious paintings before, he actually painted Christ in the arden of Olives twice before, but both times he decided not to paint the images of Christ since, as he said in a letter to his brother Theo, he did not want to do figures of such importance without a model. Van Gogh actually had begun to avoid doing religious work around this time for both aesthetic and moral reasons. Van Gogh had rejected what he believed to be his parents narrow religionious views and went for a much different view, one where life itself almost didn t seem to matter of have purpose, something close to Nihilism. Vincent instead tried to find meaning in the cycles of nature and how they related to the

However, these machines have been given an increasing amount of freedom such as a 24/7 watch for intruders, unlike humans, and the ability to shoot at their own will. The topic of giving these machines a certain degree of freedom and moral value has been a subject of controversy. Should machines be given free will beyond human control? Many researches and philosophers like Patrick Lin spoke against the issue of the letter, saying that it is a useful letter of awareness, but nobody can predict whether robots will gain full autonomy in the future. (Lin qtd. in Knight Par.8) While the idea of preserving human lives, the danger of robots given their free will could result in more than the deaths of the adversary, but also innocent civilians. The liberty of the robots will make them persons and not necessarily comply with our demands, since their freedom is superior to our control. In what follows, I will argue that war robots are not persons and should not be given a higher level of autonomy and moral value and that humans should keep them under control. Robots reduce the need for humans in combat and therefore save the lives of soldiers, sailors and pilots. What parent would send their child into a war zone if a robot could do the job instead? • 15. The Effects Of The BP Oil Spill On April 20, 2010, a massive offshore drilling rig, known as the Deepwater Horizon, exploded and set fire. The results were devastating. Eleven people lost their lives, and approximately seventeen were injured ( BP Oil Spill Timeline ). The explosion caused oil pipes to rupture and spill thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The BP oil spillhas since turned into one of the worst disasters in recent memory. The damage that it has caused is insurmountable, and it has taken its toll on a wide range of people (Walsh). Making Matters worse, the spill has spawned many controversies (Lustgarten). The question, however, remains the same: Why did this happen in the first place? The BP Oil Spill is the result of a series of events that eventually led to thousands of barrels of petroleum leaking into the Gulf. In early September, BP released a report that analyzed the events leading up to the accident. The report states that the fire was caused by a release of hydrocarbons from the well, and then onto the oil rig (BP Internal Investigation Team). The Deepwater horizon was equipped with failsafe mechanisms in case anything went wrong. The problem is that they all failed as well. Once the rig sank, it caused three breaks in the pipes. That is when the spill occurred. There were multiple chances to stop this. And they all failed, says Malcolm Spaulding, a professor of ocean engineering at the University of Rhode Island (Walsh) One of the most unsettling aspects of the

  • 18. The Soviet Union And The United States Due to the onset of the Cold War and the early 1960s, the popular and political climate in the United States changed. The relationship between the Soviet Union and the United States was directed by ideological, political and technological factors. The rivalry between the two powers rooted from their contrasting ideological principles since the United States was a democratic republic where the people believed that every citizen had equal representation in the government and the Soviet Union was a communist nation. The US embodied the principles of a democratic nation believing in the ideals of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness as well as having an economy that was based on capitalism. In contrast to the ideology of the US, the Soviet Union fell under communist rule during the Russian Revolution of 1917, which was based on the idea that all assets should be owned by the government and then divided among the citizens of the nation. The Soviet Union took communisma step further as the many of the leaders were totalitarian during the 20th century, meaning that all power was in the hands of the ruler . In 1946, Churchill declared the separation between the east and west by saying that an iron curtain had descended through the middle of Europe (Churchill Delivers Iron Curtain Speech 1). Even though the Soviets and the US fought together in WWII, the eastern communistic ideology had clashed with western democratic principles. Furthermore, the two powers were in a nuclear

For the longest time I did not identify as any certain or specific religion and when asked I would simply state how I was not a religious person. It was not until high school when I discovered the religionof Agnosticism. In our English class we had to research different religions and our group received Agnosticism. Before then I had never heard of that religion, but after learning about Agnosticism it pretty much summed up how I feel and what I believe about God and religion. Basically Agnosticism entails that the person believes that the existence of God is uncertain and claims neither a faith nor a disbelief in God. I feel like this religion perfectly sums up how I feel when it comes to my faith and ideas about God and just religion as a whole. Since I am not a religious type of person, the idea of me choosing another one that I would be a part of seems like a difficult task. When I do think about the various religions that I have studied, written, and read about during the course of this semester there is one that stands out to me. If I had to choose another religion to join instead of my own, I would join Buddhismbecause their fundamental principles and values are those that I can agree with and their ultimate purpose in life is something I can see myself believing in as well. To begin, in the Buddhist religion there are various principles and

As a result, California Proposition 19, the Regulate, Control Tax Cannabis Act, became a ballot initiative on November 2, 2010 statewide ballot. This paper will define demographic transition theory; analyze the implication of the funding and availability for social security and adequate health care for seniors and the work and retirement challenges that seniors face. The demographic transition theory is a widespread explanation of the changing mold of humanity, fertility and increase rates as civilizations move from one demographic system to another. The term was first coined by the American demographer Frank W. Notestein in the mid twentieth century, but it has since been elaborated and expanded upon by many others (The Demographic Transition, 2012). There are four stages of demographic transition. The first stage of the demographic transition is called pre industrial. In this stage, the population is stable. The birth and death rates are both high. The death rates are at a high due to the increase of disease, poor medical and personal hygiene care along with the limited supplies of food. With the death rates being high, people are having more babies to help with mortality rates being so high. With the birth and death rates being equal, the population growth stays at a zero. The second stage of the demographic transition theory is called the transitional stage. In this state the population starts to increase. This happens because the birth rates are high and the death rates are starting to decline. The second stage is when the development of modern medicine and food distribution is started to take hold and

Gangs in society today, are problematic in many aspects. There are many different avenues city officials can take to combat or reduce gang related crime. Various methodologies have been used to take on this problem and have had successful results (Spergel,1986). The general idea is that if gang members will not respond to ordinary social agency programs, then the programs must move out to the streets in order to achieve change (Klein,1965, p3. 183). Law enforcement takes on a tremendous role in reducing crimeand ensuring public safety. Gang related crime is a prominent adversary for not only local communities, but our brave men and women. obviously they are having a tough time reducing gang s jurisdiction as seen in Chicago and other large cities. One of the many problems they face is going into the gang s battlefields where bullets are being fired and yet protect themselves also. As one of the interviewees in Scotts article said, it would take the police at least an hour to come to his neighborhood when firearms are being fired (Scott, 2004, p.119). Theoretically, it is impossible for law enforcement to stop individuals from committing gang related crime if they are not nearby to see what is taking place. In studies that concentrated on how Benzodiazepines (a substance used as a sleep aid and an anti anxiety medicine) affected the quality of sleep and memory of events that happen during interrupted sleep periods. Subjects fell back asleep rather quickly, but come morning, had much trouble recalling the tasks they were given to complete earlier in the night. In studies that looked at memory between wake and sleep, researchers presented undergraduate students a verbal word as they drifted off into sleep. But of course, to ensure sleepiness the students were limited to two hours of sleep the night prior to the experiment. Researchers used an electroencephalograph (EEG), which is a tool to determine one s position in the wake to sleep cycle. Using the EEG researchers determined when their subjects were asleep then either allowed them short periods of sleep or long periods before waking them. Once their subjects were woken up, they tested their memory through recognition. Results showed that the subjects who experienced short periods of sleep did, in fact, the memory test. In contrast, the subjects that could sleep for a longer period, in this case, ten minutes, had a greater difficulty remembering the word relayed to them in the five minutes prior to them falling asleep. These results were interpreted as an interruption of the transfer of the memory from short term to long term storage. Thus, the memory was in a sense erased and was unavailable to be recalled. This difficulty is an example of RA, as has been defined, and as an example of RA being induced by interruptions in the quality of sleep. However, if subjects were aroused in any way as they drifted off to sleep and were read their words, then it could be that AGA has been induced. What this fails to conclude however is if both

Hatchett these historians have paved the way for black s folks toady. To kick it off, Zora Neale Hurston, her best known work is a novel which captures the culture of a working class black community. Zora was considered by many people to be the pre eminent (excellent) black female writer in the country. Her work was everywhere, in major magazines and on bookshelves. She consulted on screenplays for Hollywood. She was also one of the brightest lights of the Harlem Renaissancein the 1930s. An occasional collaborator with Langston Hughes and a rival of Richard Wright . Although she was born in Alabama she s still a big figure for Floridians. Bethune moved from Palatka to Daytona because it had more economic opportunity; it had become a popular tourist destination and businesses were thriving. In October 1904, she rented a small house for $11.00 per month. She made benches and desks from discarded crates, and acquired other items through charity. She was born in North Carolina but she also plays an important role in Florida history. By the information that I present above you can tell that Mary McLeod Bethune was a determined
  • 41. Essay On Calpurnia As A Mother Figure I am reading To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee and I am on page 207. This book is about Atticus gets a trial of a black man and the whole town hates it. Jem and Scout are growing up. Aunt Alexandra does not like how Atticus raises these children so she comes to move in and help. Calpurnia had asked them if they would like to attend church with her, they happily said yes. Bringing them to church with her really shows Calpurnia s love for these children because although they are not her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calpurnia has lots of courage bring white children to her black church. People at her church would ask her why she is bringing white children in this church but she would tell them that they behave and that she takes quality care of Jem and Scout. Calpurnia would not be judged by the fact that she was bringing white children inti her church she just held her head up high. She brought them to her Church because she truly loves Jem and Scout and knows her church is a good one, so she wants them to learn good faith. Another reason Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra is because Calpurnia tells Scout she can always come in the kitchen if Jem is being mean to her. Calpurnia knows that Jem is getting older and that at times he can be very mean so when this happens she tells Scout she can always come in the kitchen. Calpurnia really loves Scout and is happy to always cheer her up and bond with her in the kitchen. When Scout can be sad her long talks with Calpurnia can cheer her up, it makes Calpurnia feel good to cheer Scout up also. There kitchen talks lead to crying, laughing, talking but eventually
  • 42. I Am Not My Hair It was December 2006, I was nine years old, and that was the first time I had ever heard India Arie s songs; Video I Am Not My Hair . While both of these songs are inspired by rhythm blues, and Neo Soul, their overarching meanings are somewhat different. Video , is a powerful self love anthem; in this song, India Arie celebrates who she is naturally, and acknowledges that she would not change who she is. I Am Not My Hairis more complex because while it acknowledges the versatility of Black hair, it also pushes the idea that one s hair does not define who you are as a person. While I Am Not My Hair seems to push Black hairstyles to the background, I want to argue that both I Am Not My Hair and Video are songs that celebrate the idea that black is beautiful . In this paper, by focusing on, India Arie s references to black hair and self love, I intend to draw connections between these two songs and the Civil Rights/Black Power movements as well as the concept that black is beautiful. To draw these connections, I will focus on Nina Simone s song, Black is the Color of My True Love s Hair . Does I Am Not My Hair take away from the symbol that the Afro was during the 1960 s, representing black is beautiful? What can be understood by India Arie writing these two songs during a time when it appeared that blackness was not as celebrated? How is this similar or different from Nina Simone s song? In this paper, I will focus on these questions in order to analyze

Cows love you, they are harmless, they look nice, they don t need a litter box, and they keep the grass down. Cows are so trusting that you can t help but lose your heart to them. Where I live, in Yorkshire, there is a herd of cows down the lane. You can stand by the wall any hour of the day or night and pretty soon the cows will all waddle over to stand nearby. They aren t smart enough to know what to do next, but they seem to be happy just to be in your presence. Mired in their contentedness, they will stand there indefinitely. They will listen to your problems and never ask for a thing in return. Cows will be your friends forever, and when you

This is what Lyddie Worthen in the book, Lyddie, by Katherine Paterson has to face. Lyddie has faced many hardships when working in the factory. Lyddie is a young girl who is sent off to work to pay the debts for her family. Lyddie was fired from her first job and went to Lowell, Massachusetts to be a factory girl. When working, there are poor working conditions. Other workers have started a petition to improve the working conditions. This leads some to say that she must sign the petition. However, signing the petition could get her fired which will make it almost impossible to reunite back with her family. When talking to her roommates, Lyddie shares her own opinion on signing the petition. When talking, her roommates mention that if you sign the petition they wouldn t have to work longer. She says, But we d be paid less (Paterson 91). This quote shows that signing the petition can decrease her payment which would make it even longer to reunite with her family. When Betsy finishes reading to Lyddie they talk about what they heard lately. Unfortunately, Lyddie has the possibility of getting blacklisted (Paterson 81). This quote shows that if she gets fired for signing the petition she could get blacklisted, which means that no other mills would hire her. Being blacklisted makes it difficult to reunite back with her family. It s tough working in the factory but Lyddie is strong enough to keep on working and
  • 45. The Simpsons, Family Guy, Aladdin, And All The Scary Movie... There are many movies, books, and TV shows that make fun of evil. The Simpsons, Family Guy, Aladdin, and all the Scary Movie movies. There are numerous ways in which each makes fun of evil. Scary Movie alone uses numerous ways to mock evil, and turns all these scary, evil things into something to laugh about. Aladdin has people who are supposed to be evil, and come up with all these ideas to destroy good, but it always turns around on the evil people and works out for good. The Simpsonshas an episode where Homer sells his soul for a doughnut, and another episode where Homer kills Death. These TV shows and movies have something in common though, and that is the way they belittle evil. Most will have good triumph over evil which, models Augustinian theodicy. Why do many TV shows and movies ridicule evil? It could be any number of reasons. Perhaps people didn t want to fear it anymore, and thus, belittled it and took away its power over people. Maybe it is for any other number of reasons. However, no matter the reason, these numerous TV shows and movies afore mentioned, mock evil. In Aladdin, there is a parrot named Iago. Iago is voiced by Gilbert Gottfried and appeared in the first film as the sidekick to the main antagonist Jafar, and later becomes one of the protagonists for the rest of the franchise s run. He even leaves Jafar, and goes on to try to cause chaos on his own while singing I m Looking out for Me. First, the fact one of the main antagonists is a small

Play games, read a book or recline your seat and nap your self driving car will transport you safely to your journey s end. Autonomous driving features such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist are already included in many new vehicles, offering motorists a harbinger of what s to come. By 2020, the first fully autonomous vehicles are expected to deploy on America s roadways. Consumers, however, are not sharing the same enthusiasm owned by self driving proponents of autonomous vehicle technology. Indeed, three out of four Americans surveyed by AAA say that they are afraid to ride in a self driving vehicle. Decades of Autonomous Vehicle Testing Before we examine the AAA survey, we need to gain context based on background. Experiments on self driving vehicles have been ongoing for decades. For example, beginning in the 1980s, a German researcher at a Munich university, Ernst Dickmanns , built the world s first robotic car. Those earlier models required human intervention to control engine throttle and braking. By 1995, Dickmanns team launched the first fully autonomous vehicle, a Mercedes Benz S Class and inaugurated it on a 1,000 mile round tripper from Munich to Denmark and back, including nearly 100 miles of human free control.(2) That watershed mission was accomplished without incident and led to other

In our study, it was observed that the IR exposure revealed a marked nephrotoxicity that was evidenced by a significant elevation in serum levels of urea and creatinine which reflects a marked impairment of the kidney function. Such results were reported by the previous studies [35], which documented that serum levels of urea and creatinine are good markers of nephrons functional capacity. However, the serum level of creatinine is a more indicative than the urea concentration in the first phases of kidney disease, while the level of urea begins to increase only after the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar data have been reported previously by Elkady and Ibrahim [36] and Kutanis et al. [40]. Meanwhile, pretreatment of HMB prior to IR exposure increased the antioxidant levels and decreased the levels of MDA when compared with IR exposed rats. These results showed that HMB attenuated IR induced lipid peroxidation and that was compatible with the study of Rao et al. [22] who suggested that the decrease in MDA concentration could be due to the ability of HMB to scavenge secondary reactive radicals or to prevent the formation of superoxide or hydrogen peroxide in response to IR exposure. It was stated that HMB is a potent ONOO_ scavenger that can protect the cells against peroxy nitrite induced diseases [41]. Along these lines, the reaction between O2В· and NO may be diminished by the activity of HMB, whereas the enzyme catalyzed reaction by SOD would debilitate in this manner thus, the SOD can be maintained. It was reported that HMB can reduce hydroxyl radical and presumably repress the formation of H2O2 in the reaction chain, which may at last prompt the maintaining of intracellular GSH levels [18, 42, 43]. Antioxidant, activity of HMB in our investigation, may be ascribed to the phenolic nature of HMB which could have prompted free radicals scavenging [18]. However, the
  • 48. Microorganisms Lab Report Introduction Life on this planet began with microorganisms. Through millions of years microorganisms have found ways to successfully adapt and survive. These adaptations have created a wide biodiversity, allowing them to basically populate in all places. Why are these microbes so important? Because they shape the history of our world. Some microbes can be deathly to humans while some others are favorable, for example, bacteria that lives in the gut of both humans and animals and helps during the process of digestion (Alfred Brown Heidi Smith, 2006). Understanding these interactions help scientists to find ways to protect humans from potential deathly pathogens. In order to observe microbes, microscope proficiency and microorganisms identification are crucial skills in a microbiology lab. During this laboratory session, samples of environmental and human organisms were inoculated into two different rich media and incubated to their according temperature. After this, appropriate use and calibration of the microscope was performed. Lastly, morphology and size of different species of bacteria, algae, fungi and protozoan were recorded. Materials and Methods Nutrient Broth and Nutrient Agar were used to inoculate bacteria taken from different surfaces. Nutrient agar plate was inoculated with a sample taken from skin surface. A sterile cotton swab was first immersed on sterile water, then, rubbed against the skin with swirling motion and transferred to an agar plate by rubbing
  • 49. Mid-Term Break Mid Term Break Seamus Heaney On my first Sonne Ben Jonson Which poem expresses the experience of grief best? On my first Sonne is a very direct way of expressing the grief that occurs when a child in the family dies. It is about the feelings that Ben Jonson goes through, and the poem describes his emotions and thoughts in detail. On the other hand, Mid Term Break uses indirect ways to portray grief, by describing events that happen after the death. Farewell, thou child . On my first Sonne openly addresses the deceased boy in the poem. The poem is to him, and about him. Ben Jonson uses faith to help him through the bereavement. It describes the events surrounding the death, not the emotions the poet went through. Grief is also brought out through the choice of words; for example knelling . Knell is a word used to describe the ringing of death bells, but not school bells. The narrative in the first stanza takes a detached and spaced out rhythm. This shows the shock that has hit the poet, and how he has distanced himself from the tragic event. Through the whole poem, the rhythm remains slow, revealing how the poet feels unsure and isolated. as my mother held my hand / in hers and coughed out angry tearless sighs These lines show the grief, that Seams Heaney cannot express alone, being expressed by his mother for him. He mentions his father crying in the fourth line because it is so out of the ordinary that he has to mention it. This in itself shows some of the shock of the event, and how he is frightened by the change. It was a hard blow has overtones of a heavy impact, as in the accident and as the emotions that follow. The corpse is such in line 15 that it is unrecognisable; it is no longer his brother, but a corpse. So great is the disorientation surrounding being plucked suddenly from school into a surreal environment, he does not have time to contemplate his brother, and so the corpse remains as an unnamed, staunched body. In this poem, the
  • 50. Flying Spaghetti Monster Research Paper The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (often shortened to FSM), also known as the Pastafarian Church, and Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, was created in 2005 after a letter protesting the teaching of intelligent design in schools, written by Prophet Bobby Henderson, was posted online. Since that time, The FSM has gained much internet fame and what Henderson estimates to be millions, if not thousands . The Church is founded on the belief that the world was created by the benevolent and undetectable mythical being known as the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It is commonly believed by members that, after drinking heavily, he created the world in four days, starting with a mountain, a tree, and a midget, later creating a wench for the midget, whom all humans are descended from. The church states that their envisionment of heaven is... These images are often used in Pastafarian propaganda, which is also the church s main source of income. The language of the Church is rather unique. Pastafarians almost entirely agree that the more someone talks using pirate lingo, the more devout a believer they are. Because of this, one of the Church s few holidays is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, which is celebrated on September 19th. They also end all prayers, official or invented, with the phrase R Amen (sometimes written rAmen), as something of a spoof of the phrase Amen . While an argument could be made that the Church is a counter culture for their desire to keep intelligent design and other religious teaching out of schools, the Church is definitively a subculture. They are simply a group of like minded people who have banded together in their attempts to improve the
