misfortunate event that happens. Carson Smith McCullers uses the setting in her short story The
Haunted Boy to display the different moods of the main character Hugh. The settings in the story

he is outside when he remembers happy memories.
The beginning of the story starts out with one of few happy settings. The front yard was one of
the only places that brought happy feelings to the story. McCullers short story starts out by
describing the day having sunshine on a mid April afternoon and the front lawn being green (page
675). These descriptions allow the reader to think warm and colorful thoughts. The story then goes
to talk about how the boys are running outside in the warm. Hugh race up the sidewalk, and John
followed him. They finished the front steps with two bounds, and the door slammed after them
(page 675). This shows how the boys are having fun and enjoying each others company. Finally, the
front yard is the place that Hugh remembers some of his fond memories of his mother. Sometimes

I wasn t really sure how to write about things that bring me joy, so I made parody to Roger and
Hammerstein s The Sound of Music . This is my favorite musical and one of my favorite movies.
I write frequently, and I often rewrite words to songs to fit my life. I thought it was appropriate to
rewrite My Favorite Things and share with you why these things bring me joy. The first few

and color to my life. So much of who I am has been learned from who they are. Hugs are best

For example, at Christmas we have your normal decorations and then we also have Flick family
decorations. This consists of old mini pie tins put into the shape of bells with ribbon around it. My
grandparents made these when they were first married because they could afford a tree with a
lights but no ornaments. They made these decorations and have kept them ever since. My sister and
I love asking about the story of the pie tins. My grandma will share, It reminds us where we
came from and how far we ve come as a family. Pie tin christmas ornaments will forever be one of
my favorite traditions. In addition to holiday traditions, my brothers and I always have cake
wars during our birthday parties when we re all together. Our birthdays all go June, July, August,
