Quentin Tarantino: Adventures in Contemporary Postmodern Cinema
Introduction
Abstract
FILMS written and directed by Quentin Tarantinobetween 1991 and 2004 have been variously
admired for their styles, visual and verbal wit, three dimensional characterization and character
development and unique narrative structure. What can be described as a cleverly interwoven
tapestry of filmic elements (Page, 2005), his ability to skillfully involve postmodern elements,
unique characterization and non linear narrative structures in comprehensive, original and ... Show

Such conversations bring to the viewer s attention the fact that they are only watching a constructed
piece of entertainment, not something that is real as such. Another example can be observed in the
blatant display of selfreflexivity when Mia makes eye contact with the camera and draws a square
with her finger.
A parallel example in cinema can be found in Jean Luc Godard s Le Mepris (1963), which is a

film about films and about itself (Page, 2005). This is also exemplified by Singing in the
Rain (1952); Donald O Connor s reverse engineering of the plot of The Duelling Cavalier to
become The Dancing Cavalier to include a modern jazz sequence in an adaptation of A
Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court but set in revolutionary France in a musical film about
a musical film, set at the beginning of musical film, but made at the end of musical film s golden
age, fits all the prerequisites for the definition of postmodernism.
By making small but significant changes to the conventions of cinema, the artificiality of the
experience and the world presented are emphasized in the audience s mind in order to remove them
from the conventional emotional bonds they have to the subject matter, and to give them a new
view of it.
Also, in many instances of his films

Layers Of Airport Security
Identifying terrorists at airports is a very difficult task for homeland security professionals since
terrorists can blend in very well with the more than 650 million law abiding passengers that travel
every year via U.S. airports (United States Government Accountability Office, 2014). The security
layered approach is a securitystrategy that helps reduce the risk of a terrorist infiltrating into an
airport by employing a wide range of tools and programs that can enhance airport security
(Hoggan, 2012). The numerous layers of security are designed to be able to prevent, identify, and
stop a terrorist attack in case one of the previous security layers failed to do so (Cason, Lu,
Schreckengast, 2010, pg. 88). Each security layer has their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This strategy allows DHS to be able identify suspicious individuals before they even arrive to the
airport. The names of passengers are being matched against the database when the passengers book
their flights prior to arriving to the airport, which is more time and cost effective for DHS than
having to identify suspicious individuals among large crowds of people at airports.
As mention above, all layers of security have some weak points and the Secure Flight program is
not the exception. It may be very difficult for DHS to be able to effectively screen suspicious
individuals without disrupting the flow of passengers since the screenings of suspicious
individuals may take longer in comparison to those passengers who do not pose a threat or are
not considered suspicious. Therefore to combat the Achilles heel of the Secure Flight program,
DHS has created the TSA pre check program. The TSA pre check is a program in which
passengers, usually those passengers who travel frequently, voluntarily submit themselves to
extensive background investigations and if the passenger is able to meet the requirements posted
by DHS, then the passenger will be allowed to go through expedite screenings when they travel as
the passenger will be considered by DHS a Trusted passenger

Reaction Of Howl s Moving Castle
Howl s Moving Castle is a Japanese animated fantasy film scripted and directed by Hayao
Miyazaki, produced by Toshio Suzui and animated by Studio Ghibli.
The grahics for this film was beautifully made, there were gorgeous panoramic scenes, diverse
and detailed character designs and with a flourish when the colors are applied. The wide range of
colors used in this film really help things stand out and it also accentuate the antastical aspects of
this film. Howl s Moving castle is set in a magical, fictional land of Ingary where the director s
amazing imagination and astonishing detail is exhibited through the plot where the heroine
unearths male protagonist s true nature and struggles to save him gave evocative power to this
oblique fantasy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wizard shows Sophie an old mill house where he spent much of his childhood. This beautiful
rustic setting replete with a glorious lake is in stark contrast to the fast paced city where Sophie
lives. There the dark black clouds of smoke from the trains fill the air with pollution. But the most
toxic thing of all is war itself with destructive battles going on in the air and on the land. Howl is
transformed into a great birdlike warrior as he tries to put an end to conflict.
CONCLUSION
The first reason I chose this Japanese animated fantasy is to show that the standard perception of
Japanese anime being strange, noisy and weird cartoons were misguided. Howl s Moving Castle is a
perfect example of both that popularity (it was nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar) and
of how the genre defies easy classification. This story reinforces healthy lessons about the
importance of family and friendship
Second reason is that this film is hard to understand for some viewers, prompting a response like It
seems very pretty but it s rather hard to understand. therefore I would like to attempt to analysize
this film as I feel that through patience and careful observation the film has a lot of depth and
meaning to it. This film is trying to communicate many important messages some of which that I
have analyzed above to its

The Rapper Eminem Is Not An Easy Task
Eminem s legendary music has inspired and intrigued many people and critics over the years. Even
though Eminem became famous at such a young age, Eminem s path to stardom was not an easy
task. Although known for constant controversy, the rapper Eminem is a world renown artist whose
music has influenced and impacted many fans and critics.
On October 17, 1972, a child was born in the deep ghetto of Saint Joseph, Missouri, troubled with
a hard life consisting of no father, a druggy mother, and seemingly alone. This child became one
of the most recognized rappers in the world, he is Marshall Bruce Mathers the third (Mattern 1).
Over the years Marshall became close with his uncle (Ronnie Mathers) who inspired him quite
much and also introduced him to rap and hip hop. Only a few years after Ronnie had introduced
Marshall to hip hop, Ronnie committed suicide ( Eminem Contemporary). This affected Marshall
greatly for the man who practically raised him over the years had just committed suicide leaving
Marshall alone once again.
Growing up in a very rough and poor town living in a small 747 square foot home (often depicted
on album titles such as his newest album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (Deluxe)) showed the rough
conditions of Marshall s hard child life ( Eminem Contemporary). Every day was a new battle for
this young man. Constantly fighting his way to the top with not only his fist but also his lyrics and
quick rhymes. Marshall s father had walked out on him and his

My First Cheerleading Research Paper
As I opened my eyes on an early Saturday morning, I immediately had butterflies in my stomach.
Today is my first cheer competition. I thought about this all morning as I was getting ready.
Everything had to be perfect in order for me to walk out the door ready to show the world my
cheerleading routine. It was an absolute crazy morning. The hair, the makeup, the uniform, and
the white cheer shoes. I never realized till then how much work it actually was just to get, the
look of a cheerleader. Glitter was covering my eyelid while my hair was perfectly curled in a
ponytail with my bow way bigger than my head. The whole way to my competition which was at
the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I listened to my cheer song over and over again... Show

It took what felt like an entire year to find a parking spot. We were parked in the way, way back.
As I walked in the door, there was already a huge line. I had to get a bracelet around my wrist to
show all the security guards and the people working and running the competition there that I was
there to perform. I was only 8 at the time so they Deltaplex looked huge in my little eyes. There
were posters and signs of teams surrounding you. My mom found my team sign since I was way
to little to see above everyone s head. We were all the way in the back. Right as I walked to say hi
to my team and start to stretch, I knew the craziness was already beginning.
My coach, Tina Joy, led my team and I into a special room where we began to practice our routine.
We had exactly 15 minutes to warm up out tumbling skills, stunts, jumps, pyramid, and dance.
When we got the call that the 15 minutes were up, I began to get even more nervous than I was
before. You can do this, you can do this, you ll be fine I thought over and over again to calm
myself down. We waited for almost over an hour till we got to perform. My team and I stood in
our opening positions right by the mat so we were ready to run on after the team ahead of us

Medusa
The myth of Medusa is one of the most told myths throughout history. It seems like a simple idea
of how society perceives ugliness. The myth may be saying that truly hideous people deserved the
monstrous things that are coming to them, yet there is more to the story and image of this woman.
People have to look into what happened to her that society perceives her as hideous.Society has to
think about whose fault was it for her becoming a monster. People should look into the true
meaning of Medusa. Medusa has a strong impact on Greek society mythology too? with her
features, the colors of those features, her gender, and the power she held. Her image and myth is ...

There are some images that one can use to show Medusa, so it depends on what one wants to
talk about. The image I picked is of Medusa s head cut off on a shield (Gill, N.S.). The problem
here is that Medusa does not look that ugly. In most pictures, Medusa just looks like a beautiful
woman who has snake for her hair. It seems strange that society and history remember her as
ugly. One reason is because of the snakes in her hair. Images show that her hair is full of many
snakes. On her head, is looks to be multiple kinds of snake. Some snakes look to be dice snakes,
Natrix Tessellate, which are venomous snakes found in Europe (McLaren, John). People hate
snakes and fear them. In many cultures such as Christianity, snakes are evil. Satan took the form
of one in the Garden of Eve to seduce Adam and Eve to commit sin. It works and mankind is
driven out of the Garden forever ( Are snakes evil? Does the Bible say anything about snakes? ).
The image of a snake makes many shiver in fear of it. Most of the Greek myths show snakes in a
distrustful manner. Most of Ancient Greek believed that snakes were liars and intelligent, but not to
trust them.
Medusa is an important goddess used a lot in Greek female myths. In Greek myths, her hair which
is of snakes can show the symbolism of snakes. Snakes were said to have shown the natural cycle
of birth, death, and rebirth. In Greek myths the shedding of their skins and by getting new skin it
shows rebirth. The shredding of the snakes

Jimmy Collins s Role At Chick Fil A Essay
Jimmy Collins is a distinguished leader. Former president and chief operating officer of Chick
fil A, Inc.. Before starting his career with Chick fil A, he worked for a food service consulting
business and designed the floor plans for the Chick fil A stores. Mr. Collins describes his role at
Chick fil A as the chief follower of the founder. He is also the founder of creative followership.
He is driven by influencing people that are interested in advancing their careers and wants to
share his experiences and wisdom with them. Mr. collins was willing to share some of his
stories and experience with us. Not all of the stories were happy endings or the pretty picture we
sometimes try to portray to people. He stressed the importance of telling your own story. When
you tell your own story, you are able to do it with passion and emotion. You can feel it out for
those listening. I have always been somewhat afraid of telling people my whole story, because I
never know how they will react or treat me after. But, the reality is, my story has power, the
power to influence. My story is my own, and no one can change it. I was inspired by how
transparent Mr. Collins was with telling his story, he was inspiring and motivational. As
Christians, it is our job to witness and love others, our stories have power and they are one of the
easiest ways to relate to others and build God s kingdom. Mr. Collins shared the best career advice

Role Of Lxr On Melanogenesis In Vitiligo
LXR О± is ligand activated nuclear transcription factor which regulates the expression of target
genes involved in various physiological processes.13 LXR has been shown to be expressed in
different cutaneous sites like sebaceous glands, sweat glands and hair follicle.10 Furthermore, both
LXR О± and LXR ОІ are expressed in cultured human keratinocytes and throughout all layers of
the human epidermis.14
Scarce number of studies has discussed the effect of activated LXR on melanogenesis in Vitiligo.
Kumar and his associates (2010) demonstrated that LXR О± was also expressed in melanocytes
and it was up regulated in the melanocytes from perilesional skin of vitiligo patients in comparison
to non lesional skin, suggesting that LXR О± might be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is in agreement with the finding of Russell et al.10 This observation could be explained by
that site of hair follicle melanocytes or may be due to presence of LXRО± in immortalized
epidermal keratinocytes which locate basally [10]. The presence of LXRО± and LXRОІ mRNA
within human immortalized epidermal keratinocytes was also documented.20
A nearly significant association between the epidermal nucleo cytoplasmic expression of LXR О±
and the high VIDA scores was noted in studied cases of the present work (P=0.09). It might
through a light on the value of LXR О± expression as prognostic markers evaluating the disease
severity. Unfortunately, this finding had not been noted before, therefore it is considered as an area
requiring additional research.
The current work revealed a significant association between the epidermal nucleo cytoplasmic
expression of LXR О± and absence of melanin pigment (P=0.001). This can be explained by Lee et
al observation that LXR activation inhibited melanogenesis through the acceleration of extracellular
signal regulated kinase (ERK) mediated microphthalmia associated transcription factor (MITF)
degradation.6
Also, emodin could inhibit melanogenesis by promoting degradation of MITF protein through
upregulation of the LXR О± gene.21
In the current study, there was a nearly significant correlation between the LXR О± epidermal H
score in lesional skin and age of patients (P=0.08). This could

Compare And Contrast Essay On The Lovely Bones
Compare and Contrast of the remediation of Novels to film with reference to The Lovely Bones.
The Lovely Bones is a 2002 novel by Alice Sebold about a teenage girl called Susie Salmon, a 14
year old girl who was raped and murdered by her neighbour George Harvey in 1973. She then
watches from her own personal Heaven as her family and friends struggle to move on with their
lives while she comes to terms with her own death. We follow Susie Salmon throughout the story as
she witnesses the events on the earth, experiencing hopes and longings for the everyday things she
can no longer do. In 2005 Director Peter Jackson secured the books film rights and created his
own film adaptation in 2009 which was met with mixed reviews but overall was well received.
The film relatively stays faithful to the novel by Alice Sebold but major themes of the story are
glanced over or emphasized, characters aren t as developed and some major plot points are missing
entirely.
The novel The Lovely Bones has many characters who each have their own subplots which
contribute to the overall story in minor ways and gives the reader the opportunity to learn about
each character. For example one of the biggest elements of the story is Heaven and its depiction.
In the novel Sebold who was raised Episcopalian intended the heaven to be simplistic in design
and not to be the focus of the story. Unlike in Peter Jackson s film where heaven is ultimately a
large proportion of the film, focusing more on spectacle

Wakeboarding Vs Water Skiing Analysis
Ever since the summer of 2013 when we got our boat I have been wondering what riding behind
a boat is like. So when we got a wake boat earlier this year I have been growing and getting better
at water sports, especially wakeboarding. Wakeboarding and waterskiing are very different.
Where wakeboarding requires a large wake, and water skiing boats need to go a lot faster. But
they both are ridden behind a boat and are really fun. Water Skiing is an extremely fun sport and
is very different from wakeboarding. Although with how fast you go when you water ski the
pulling and strain really hurts your forearms, of course it s completely worth it when you build up
the strength to where it doesn t hurt. When you get started it is quite a bit less

Project MORE
Reading is the most important aspect throughout a child s education. This has become a priority for
students who read below grade level. These students often face difficulties within their curriculum,
and struggle to understand a variety of subjects and topics. With that being said, these students need
additional readingintervention in order to comprehend the material being learned across each of
their classes. Project MORE provides students with this opportunity. Project MORE is a tutoring
program designed to improve a child s reading over the course of a few months. In project
MORE, the child will meet with a tutor three to four days a week for thirty minuets. Within this
amount of time, the child will be removed from his or her classroom in order to receive
additional individualized intervention. Project MORE has two reading interventions: Help One
Student To Succeed (HOSTS) and the Reading Tutors program. Both of these have the same goal
of improving reading skills, build problem solving skills, and improve the behavior, self esteem
and attitude of the child. The difference between each of these programs is the order in which they
are done in. Additionally, project MORE is designed to support the reading that is being done
within the general educationclassroom. The lessons that were taught during this period were

Italy During The Renaissance Era
The Renaissance era was a time of grand cultural and social changes for Europe. This era
began around the year 1350 up until the year 1700. The Renaissance era s birthplace was Italy,
then spread all across to Europe around the 17th century. The word Renaissance means rebirth
which is a perfect description of the theme of this era. People were going through changes in
many things such as the way they learned and in art as well. The one major reason why the
Renaissance began in Italy in the first place was mainly because of geography. The city states of
Italy, which were located right on the Mediterranean Sea, were the popular places for trade and
commerce.

means that he dealt with things realistically in a certain way that is more focused on practical

In the end, Thomas is now very much known as an outstanding father of English
Cathedral music. Unfortunately he had passed away on November 23, 1585, Greenwich, United

Feeling Sympathy for Gertrude and Rhoda in The Withered Arm, by Thomas Hardy
The Withered arm is typical of Hardy s novellas, as it is a tragedy.
It involves two main characters, Rhoda and Gertrude. Rhoda and
Gertrude both have their own different problems that the must face.
Rhoda and Gertrude become friends after they first meet. Rhoda had an illegitimate child to
farmer lodge who marries Gertrude. Before Rhoda and Gertrude meet Rhoda does not know what
Gertrude is like so is bitter about the idea of her marrying farmer lodge who hardy hints
Rhoda is still in love with.

He tells her that she is very good looking and is also very ladylike. Gertrude wants to offer the
boy a lift home in the cart with them but farmer lodge doesn t want to, as the situation would
obviously make him awkward. He makes up an excuse that the boys round there are very strong
and drives on. This bit also makes you feel some sympathy for Rhoda but in a bitter way as she is
old before her time but is intelligent and hard working and farmer lodge has married a younger
woman that seems pleasant enough and even tried to help her son, but admittedly didn t know the
situation.
Some time after the new wife has come to live with farmer lodge; hardy introduces the first hint
of witchcraft into the story. The rest of the story is based on the vision chapter so it is possibly
the most important and the following chapters could have been different. Rhoda is sat looking
into her fireplace and is sat there longer than she at first realized. She sees an image of Gertrude
and she doesn t even know what she looks like. She is almost scrying for her inadvertently.
When she comes back to, she goes to bed and falls to sleep. Gertrude comes to her in a vision and
she looks strange and twisted. She holds her ring finger in front of Rhode s face mocking and
taunting her. Rhoda has nothing to do to resist her. She sees her assailants arm stick out in

Sports Betting Scandal Since their very beginning, sports have been immersed in society and
often times gambled on. This gambling increased with the rising popularity of college sports,
and came to the forefront through scandals involving illegal betting and point shaving. One such
scandal occurred just down the road from St. Francis de Sales High School at the University of
Toledo. In between the fall of 2003 and winter of 2006, two gamblers from Detroit bribed athletes
from both the University of Toledo basketball and football teams to shave points while they placed
bets totaling $407,500 on the games. The two gamblers involved were Ghazi Gary Manni and

think these consequences were justified and fair for the crimes the players and gamblers

The Disciple Thomas
The disciple Thomas is a familiar Biblical character because of a specific incident involving his
disbelief. (John 20). Jesus had just risen from the dead and the rest of the disciples were elated
after seeing him. Thomas had not yet seen Jesus after His resurrection and he was adamant that
what his friends had witnessed couldn t be true. Nevertheless, he did have a certain curiosity and
willingly stayed with his friends in hopes of seeing what they saw. He just could not bring himself
to believe that Jesushad truly risen from the dead. He would not believe without beholding the
Christ before his own eyes and touching his wounds with his own hands. Thomas let his fear,
anxiety, and what seemed like logic take hold of him, and he had a hard time letting it all go. He
needed proof to justify what God had told him long ahead of time would happen. Thomas
learned a great lesson the day that Jesus appeared in the upper room before all of his disciples.
He was told by his Master that he would have been more blessed if he had only believed what he
could not see. As soon as Thomas felt Jesus wounds and saw him, he declared, My Lord and my
God (John 20.28). He was still greatly blessed, but not in the wonderful way that God wanted him
to be. What an important lesson for the Christian to learn;when God says something, he means it
and he doesn t intend to break his promise. Despite his doubt, Thomas was chosen by Jesus for a
reason and Jesus told him this himself in John 15.16. He

Last but not least, it promoted a sense of national unity among the American people.
During this time, America also saw an extremely productive economy and what was able to come
out of working together as one instead of multiple little groups. Americans had been focusing on
literacy and technical skills that were required in the workplace. Money was being funded into
education and the growing premium. High school, college, and advanced degrees became not only
credentials for employment but also markers of social status. Americans began rethinking gender
roles, which would in time open the way for significant numbers of women to move into higher
education and the workforce (Hunt, 83) . With education being pushed and job opportunities on the

their people and allowing money to be put back into their thriving economy.
As the United States started to build their own empire, the war fighting and peacemaking that

The years after the war brought the economy out of recession and pushed the GDP in 1918 to

Mercury Surface Research Paper
Mercury s surface is very rocky and covered in boulders and pulverized dust. The surface is also
filled with craters. The planet is a grey color. It is the smallest planet but very dense. The surface
of Mercury is very similar to the surface of the moon, but Mercury has more smooth plains. On
Mercury you will not find any clouds, dust storms, rivers or any other sign of weather. The planets
magnetic field keeps any winds away from it. Mercury has a mainly iron rich core. The planetwill
always be facing the sunon one side, lighting up half of its surface. The side facing the sun is very
hot, while the side not facing the sun gets very cold. There is absolutely no sign of anything living
on Mercury, and there has not been any for a long time.
Venus atmosphere is made up of mostly carbon dioxide and some nitrogen. There are also traces of
carbon monoxide, argon, helium and neon on the planet. All of these elements make Venus
atmospheric pressure more then 90 percent heavier then the Earth. Closest to the surface is a layer
of carbon dioxide, which is covered by a layer of clouds which makes it hard to make out the planet.

Tea Chromatography
Introduction
In this lab session, physical transformations were used to separate caffeine content from tea and
separate components by chromatography. The caffeine content was determined by extracting it
from the tea solution by adding sodium carbonate and dichloromethane into the tea and then and
then evaporating the solvent, using a hot plate. By weighing the empty beaker and the beaker after
the solvent has been evaporated on a top loading scale, the mass of caffeine was calculated. In the
second experiment, paper chromatography was used to separate the dyes in colored markers. The
purpose of this experiment is to observe how chromatography can be used to separate mixtures of
chemical substances. Chromatography serves mainly as a tool for ... Show more content on

Discussion
By calculation, the amount of caffeine contained within 100 mL of the tea solution is
approximately 26.8 mg. This data may be imprecise due to the possible errors during the extraction
of caffeine from the tea. Errors could have been made during phase separation and how vigorously
or gentle the mixture was shook. Also, errors could have been made during the filtration process
and not separating enough of the tea mixture from the dichloromethane, thus causing the calculation

The Problem Of Food Insecurity Essay
Food insecurity has been affecting the US population as about more than 23 million Americans,
including 6.5 million children, live in low income urban and rural neighborhoods that are more than
a mile from a supermarket. These communities are much known since they lack access to
affordable, nutritious food. Vault and healthy food should be affordable; policy or a plan that would
improve our food supply or the health of the population should be put into consideration in order to
enhance the American population s public health.
It is known that food insecurity is one of the major issues in the United States. Politicians have a
great role to reform and speak for the rights of those who do not have a voice. Towns play an
important role in providing access to healthy and affordable food. Establishing a food Security
Council may offer lots of help; and by nominating representatives to speak and consider all the
issues, discuss them, and decide on what s best for the public. This law may enhance and improve
in order to fight obesity in children and adolescents.
Researchers and experts who have their underlying foundations running somewhere down in the
battle against craving are endeavoring day by day and looking for resolutions to these issues.

Themes Of Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan is a theatrical masterpiece that incorporates many universal themes that
almost all people can relate to. The movie follows a squad of U.S. soldiers as they battle through
the trenches of World War II. Directed by the great Stephen Spielberg, the movie is claimed by
many to be the most accurate presentation of war in any movie to date. The movie includes
several themes that helps captivate the audience and truly help people understand just how
horrible war is. The idea of losing loved ones frightens even the toughest of us, and being lost in a
foreign land scares many others. Both of these themes are thoroughly explored and propelled onto
the audience to experience. The extremely accurate depiction of war, the universal themes that
everyone can relate to, and the film being a theatrical masterpiece are all reasons why everyone
should watch Saving Private Ryan.
The movie follows Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) and his squad as they go on a hellish journey
through war in order to save a mother s only living son. On this journey they experience many
nightmare like events, such as horrific physical injuries and emotional damage, that most people
cannot even fathom. The movie starts out with U.S. soldiers being physically sick and
emotionally distraught while riding inside amphibious landing craft. These soldiers are
becoming ill over the event that they are about to experience which is the notorious battle of D
Day . These images of the soldiers becoming physically just imaging what could happen during
the battle are a look into what many soldiers experience before they enter into battle. Saving
Private Ryan is the first, and most accurate, depiction of war to date. The movie shows the
emotional tolls that soldiers experience, like in the landing craft, but it more thoroughly displays
the physical violence that goes on in war. Just minutes after those soldiers in the landing craft are
seen becoming ill, they are storming the beaches of Normandy, and many end up dying horrible
deaths. The images of soldiers being violently injured and the excessive gore in this scene is used
to further show just how horrible war truly is.
There are a plethora of reasons why someone should watch Saving Private

Creativism a Constant Company of Humans Throughout History
As Carl Gustav Jung wisely stated, there is a certain fascination with regard to creativity.
Creativity expresses itself in many different forms, shapes, sizes, colours and sounds. It is a
concept difficult to grasp as it is broad. However most people would think of themselves as being
able to judge who and what is actually creative. But what exactly is creativity? Amible (1983)
defines creativity as the production of ideas, insights and also products that are both, original
and adaptive. Originality in this context refers to novelty of an idea and adaptation to the
appropriateness. This is the definition predominantly used in creativity research (Sternberg
Lubart 1999; Simonton Damian,2013) and is therefore used in this paper as well. In historical
terms, creativity was a constant accompanist of human kind. We had to change the environment,
and invent tools according to our needs in order to survive. Thus, creativity is a universal
occurrence in all cultures (Simonton Ting, 2010). However, which idea is assumed to be
original and appropriate, so considered to be creative, depends strongly on context and time
(Njistad et al., 2010). As stated by Nijstad et al. (2010) the work of Vincent van Gough is a good
example of a different perception of creativity in different times. When Van Gough died he was a
poor man but his works are sold for millions today. Similar is the example of the French post
impressionist artist Paul Gauguin who was not well appreciated until

Effects Of Social Stratification In The Great Gatsby
The impact of prevailing social stratification is multi dimensional in the novel. It is noted that
social stratification has great effects on racism. We find that Tom is a racist, and his racist
attitude is due to his high social status. He attacks Gatsby and questions about his fake claim of
an Oxford graduate to break the intimacy between her wife Daisy and Gatsby. He knows that
revealing the truth is the only way to create a negative impact on Daisy s mind about Gatsby.
Another interpretation can be taken from Tom s behavior is that Tom shows his aristocratic,
rude and arrogant attitude. Indicating Gatsby as a bootlegger , Mr. Nobody , he shows hardly
any sympathy and courtesy to Gatsby. His attitude toward Gatsby in such way would be
impossible if he belongs to an inferior class. Tom is also proud of his Nordic race . His intention
is to neglect the inferior people for their skin color. He is not a man to take any change easily. He
cannot think of intermarriage between black and white (Fitzgerald 103).Even Nick shows his
racist behavior, pointing to the passengers three modish Negroes . Racism toward the blacks is
found, and this reaction of Nick is because of his social status as an American. Tom does not
hesitate to cancel his wife s whiteness for his cruel racism. Social classand status have close
connections in making love, affair, and sexual pursuit. The love between Daisy and Gatsby in their
early life is the outcome of their social class and status.

Essay on Solomon Northup
Separation and Survival in In the spring of 1841, Solomon Northup accepted an offer of short
term employment as a musician, accompanying a pair of white men, circus performers working
their way back to their troupe. A free African American and resident of New York state, Northup
expected the job to take him from Saratoga Springs to New York City, entailing only a brief
absence from home so brief, in fact, that he did not leave word for his wife, also employed away
from home for a number of weeks, since he expected to return before her. When they reached New

Separation is a paramount theme, entwined for Northup who had a free family awaiting his return,
rather than a slave family he might have had to leave behind with strategies of survival and plans
for escape. Not only Northup s own story, but those of the slaves he met and lived with are
included in his narrative,. especially in the first half, which details how Northup was transported
from Washington to Richmond and finally to Louisiana, where he was sold to a planter in the
Bayou Boeuf area, William Ford.
Northup s experience, while not commonplace, was also not unique: of the fourteen slaves on
the trip to New Orleans, two others were kidnaped free men, wrested from their families. (The
closing of the African slave trade in 1808, as the plantation revolution was taking hold in the
Mississippi Delta area, created a voracious appetite for slaves in the deep South. The
contemporary decline of the staple crop plantation system in the Chesapeake area made slaves a
profitable export for the Chesapeake states, and Washington, D.C., a logical place to sell slaves, and
that profitability no doubt was an inducement to kidnappers.) In Williams slave pen in Washington,
Northup met a man named Clemens Ray, who had long lived in

However, there s so much one can do, that the rest is for the community to put into action. Also
theirs many other ways too, like, applying brochures at police stations and online information on
schools websites. The brochures would include information like, the emergency and non
emergency number available, the fire chief and police chief name, examples of emergencies and
non emergencies, and a description of what creates this system. Another possible
implementation is to use the money towards helping build more stations, providing more
ambulances, and hiring more officers. These are several potential solutions that can help the

they don t listen or help. If we can educate scholars at a young age to do the right thing, there is a
chance when they grow up they will carry this on. Also getting parents involved now helps them
spread the words to others they know, which is a great help. However other problems still
remain like, if fire stations, police officers, and ambulances don t increase in number than the
ambulance response time won t decrease. Even with a little increase, our country doesn t have a

Sacred Spaces In Thomas A. Tweed s Space
In Space , Thomas A. Tweed characterizes sacred space as differentiated, kinetic, and interrelated
in sum. While Jerusalem has not always met all the criteria of a Great City, it s depiction through
biblical texts certainly meets Tweed s criteria of sacred space. Spaces are organized on a spectrum
from undifferentiated to differentiated. Even if a place is set apart and above others, there are
different levels of differentiation. On this spectrum, Jerusalem is one (if not the most) differentiated
spaceon earth. For a long time, Jerusalem was seen as the center of the world, or axis mundi. To

is a religious act by David to curry with God, but it is also a smart political move to exalt
Jerusalem as the capital of government and to attract people to it. Furthermore, David tries to
appeal to the people of Jerusalem (as many kings have done throughout time) by distributing
food to his people. After the Ark of the Covenant was brought to the City of David, He gave each

What Are The Disadvantages Of A Subscription Market
Strategic Issue Article Subscription boxes are one of the fastest growing trends in the business
and startup world. The concept is that a customer signs up for monthly home deliveries of items
that they desire. Companies finding success with this strategy include Fabletics and Gentleman
s Box. With the growing interest consumers have for convenience, it makes sense that home
delivered goods would be so popular among consumers. The growth of this industry can be
expected to continue to grow for many reasons, but most likely because of the low barriers to
entry. However, the issue is how is this growing trend impacting retail stores like Banana
Republic and Macey s. Pros: These subscription based companies are quickly taking over the
retail market. The biggest pro for the consumer to a subscription based clothing service is
convenience. These clothing subscription services generally entail clothes picked for you by a
stylist in your selected size, which are sent directly to your door every month. The consumer is
able to try on the items in the comfort of their own home. If they don t like it, they have the
option to send it back. However, if they do like it, then their monthly subscription cost goes
towards any items they decide to keep. If the cost of what they keep is greater than the
subscription service, they charge the consumer s card for the remaining clothes, typically at a
discounted price. On the business side there are a few major upsides to retail based

Research title: Using Oral Corrective Feedback Collaborate with Written Corrective Feedback to
Encourage long term improvement and understanding of English Writing Skill
Introduction Nowadays, English is one of important languages in the world because it is used as an
international language in all fields around the world. From this reason, it is necessary to know all
aspects of this language. Academic English writing is also an important skill since it is used
extensively in higher education and in the workplace makes English writing ability becomes a
necessary skill. However, many Thai students who don t have good writing ability are not able to
write accurately even English major students. This study will find out the way to improve writing
skill in university students. The researchers believe that one of the factors affecting the writing
ability is the way of giving corrective feedback of teachers and the feedback can help learners
develop their writing skill. There are two types of corrective feedback which usually found in
university writing courses: written corrective feedback and oral corrective feedback. However, the
lecturers normally use only written corrective feedback in their classes. This teaching strategy still
has a gap that some students don t understand why the mistakes are not correct. Moreover, this gap
of using only one method of using corrective feedbacks cannot make students improve their writing

Abstract
Being a successful superintendent involves not only making difficult decisions, but making choices
that are in the best interest of the school board, teachers, student and the community. The focus of
this exercise is to identify research supported strategies that can be applied effectively to assist in
the development of a school district improvement plan. Specifically, this paper will provide
supplementary support related to a school improvement initiative focusing on improving the quality
and proficiency of student writing.
Ed.D Comprehensive Examination Written Prompt
A necessity for a school system devoted to sustained improvement of the teaching and learning
process is the creation of a comprehensive school improvement plan. The benefit of such a plan is
that it provides quality control, internal conformity, communication linkages and financial
assistance necessary for ensuring sustained improvement towards meeting the school district s
vision, mission and goals. The improvement plan selected will focus on student writing skills. This
plan will reflect the data and research necessary for successful implementation and will be linked to
the Nebo School district s mission and vision, specifically Educational Leadership Constituent
Council (ELCC) standards 2.2 and 3.1 and the Utah Core Curriculum Standards. The school

Research Paper On Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and many mind blowing works, each with its own way of
portraying its own message and some the same ones. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named
Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help
the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on
the same idea but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand
while not revealing the real meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many
poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way
of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Flanders sees the world as simple
backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a
backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he works outdoors), a
wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain trembles. Showing that
the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The message behind this line is
that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still stands as if to hang
on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains the main point
of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough. Horizons
are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted and
used for the wrong reasons. Flanders uses this line to represent the things in the world that are
there and difficult to get without giving up something in return. The special treasure that is there
from the start is often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose
their value over time. Robert Frost, on the other hand, used a more fictional approach in Nothing
Gold Can Stay . Nature s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. This couplet has one key
theme, hat not only lies in the word choice but in the poem, itself. The start of spring is when all
the new flowers bloom and the leaves on trees become greener. The start of something new and
beautiful is the

The Technological Revolution Has Changed The Access Of...
1.0 Introduction
The advent of the technological revolution has fundamentally changed the access that citizens
within a democracy have to sensitive and private information about governments, organisations,
workplaces and fellow citizens. It is incumbent upon individuals to honour the privacy of this
information. The protection of sensitive information is considered paramount, yet anyone with
information that they feel is in the public interest and is faced with no avenues to make their
concerns known is turning to the internet as a platform for the swift dissemination of material and
a layer of anonymity (Savage 2013) and this new era of what is known as whistleblowing has
given rise to cyberethics.
According to the Congressional Research Service, whistleblowing is defined as making a
disclosure evidencing illegal or improper government (and corporate) activities (Whitaker cited in
Koh, 2012). The individuals who make these disclosures are termed whistleblowers, and while the
information they expose is protected by legislation and codes of conduct, they are usually not
afforded the same level of protection, and indeed, are open to prosecution for breaking the law.
The purpose of this report is to evaluate whether all citizens in a democracy should be protected
from criminalisation for exposing nepotism and corruption.
2.0 Methods
As whistleblowing in a cyber context is a new field of study, there is limited quantitative research
available. The report will discuss

The Perfect Body
Lock, M. and V. K. Nguyen 2010. The Normal Body in An Anthropology of Biomedicine, UK:
Wiley Blackwell, pp 32 56. Example 1: normal embodiment of the body or The Perfect Body :
The 2014 underwear campaign The Perfect Body launched by Victoria s Secret demonstrates
the comercially marketable idea of a normal body. The knowledge produced about the idea in
this case of the normal body is a standarization female of ideals within modern society. This
image is a representation of the embodiment by society of what an ideal female should look like
and is reflected into this Victoria s Secret advertisement campaign. Drawing on Lock and
Nguyen s (2010) discussion on the natural body this advertisement presents a powerful example
of how an ideal persists as the body is objectified to conform to a societal ideal in social
representations. It also suggests tht the body is a homogenious space , women are classified and
objectified and placed in a category and this is what the perfect body looks like. The advertisement
campaign solidifies that ideal with the slogan The Perfect Body and does not demonstrate a truthful
depiction of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once again the normalisation and idea of standardisation put forward by Lock and Nguyeon (2010)
contributes to the embodiment of usage. By constantly exposing the population to an action or
behaviour they will eventually become used to it and no longer stigmatise it. Therefore as more
violent images are used in everyday media the population becomes more accepting. (p32 33, 37 38)

Protest Music
Music is a popular form of art that uses sounds to express ideas and emotions through the elements
of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color (Dictionary). Not only is it used for entertainment purposes
but artists also use music to voice their opinions and get messages across to their listeners. Protest
songs are based in the philosophy that social protest, intended to achieve social change, is the
fundamental purpose of music, states Lawrence M. Berger (Berger 58). Protest music is a form of
nonviolent protesting that raises awareness of social issues that occur in today s society in a
peaceful manner. This type of music comes in various forms and genres, including ... Show more

an example of an artist that makes protest music, due to his heavy affiliation with the largely known

career to protesting about the police brutalities, domestic terrorisms and racism and was named one
of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016 (Love 320). Lamar s album To Pimp a

Essay On Inhalants
Hundreds of household products are being misused as inhalants. Some of these products include
nail polish remover, hair spray, cleaning fluids, spray paint, and the propellant in aerosol whipped
cream ( Inhalants , 2010). Inhalants are breathable chemical vapors that users intentionally inhale
because of the chemical s mind altering effects (National Institute on Drug Abuse [NIDA], 2010).
The trend in inhalantabuse is growing among the young community throughout the country.
Surveys have shown in 2008 2 million Americans of 12 or over reported using inhalants (NIDA,
2010). Young children from the age of 12 to 17 are the primary age group of abusers (National

Nitrites are a group of chemicals including cyclohexyl nitrite, amyl nitrite, and butyl nitrite. Instead
of acting on the central nervous system for the euphoric effect, nitrites dilate blood vessels,
relax the muscles, and are used for sexual enhancement (NDIC, 2001). Amyl nitrite consists of a
clear, yellowish liquid that is sold in a cloth, covered sealed bulb. This type of nitrite is also
known as a snapper or popper because the bulb makes a snapping sound when it is broken
(Missouri Department of Mental Health, n.d.). On the other hand, butyl nitrite comes in small
bottles sold as video head cleaner, room odorizer, leather cleaner and liquid aroma (NIDA, 2010).
One category may sound worse than the other, but in reality they are all equally harmful and all
cause short term and long term effects to a person s health.
All effects of inhalants are harmful to the body. However, the short term effects on a person can be
brutal. Immediately after inhaling, users feel intoxication and other side effects. These effects
include slurred speech, dizziness, confusion, and uncoordinated movements. Furthermore, users
may also experience nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, hallucinations, and delusions ( Inhalants ,
2010). Loss of inhibition has been reported by users as well as drowsiness and headaches. When a
person inhales nitrites, the blood vessels are dilated, the heart rate is increased, and there is a
sensation of heat and excitement that lasts several

Nail Salon Procedure
3 Things to Consider when Buying a Pedicure Chair for a Nail SalonManicures and pedicures
used to be services offered by all beauty salons. However, as this industry evolved, it is now very
common to find salons that are dedicated solely to nail care. The main reasons why these salons
are preferred by customers is due to the fact that they keep up with the latest nail design trends,
and they use the most modern nail care equipment. The pedicure chair is perhaps the most
important piece of equipment for such a salon, as its quality can make the pedicure experience
more enjoyable for the customer. So, if you own a nail salon, you need to be very careful when
buying this chair. Here are the main factors that you need to consider! 1. The manufacturer As a
rule of thumb, it is always advised to buy from a local manufacturer. This way, if the product
breaks, you can easily find replacement parts. Moreover, the products produced in the USA tend
to be of higher quality than the ones produced overseas. If you are looking for a recommendation,
consider J A USA. They have been on the market for over 10 years, and they are among the best
pedicure chair manufacturers in the world. On https://www.jausainc.com/ you can find a wide
variety of pedicure thrones, as well as other high quality spa equipment. 2. The features... Show

worry about bacteria and diseases. Many of these chairs also integrate different types of massage
systems. Shiatsu and human touch massages are the ones that deliver the most relaxing
experiences, so if you are going to buy a massage chair, make sure it integrates these massage

Literary Analysis Of The Haunted Boy
Literary Analysis The Haunted Boy
The setting is used by the author in stories to display the mood of the scene. Specific details bring
up certain moods for the characters and the reader. For example, when talking about a warm, sunny
day, the reader can infer that the scene is going to be happy and there is going to be no
misfortunate event that happens. Carson Smith McCullers uses the setting in her short story The
Haunted Boy to display the different moods of the main character Hugh. The settings in the story
help show how uncomfortable Hugh is in the house after a past experience and shows how happy
he is outside when he remembers happy memories.
The beginning of the story starts out with one of few happy settings. The front yard was one of
the only places that brought happy feelings to the story. McCullers short story starts out by
describing the day having sunshine on a mid April afternoon and the front lawn being green (page
675). These descriptions allow the reader to think warm and colorful thoughts. The story then goes
to talk about how the boys are running outside in the warm. Hugh race up the sidewalk, and John
followed him. They finished the front steps with two bounds, and the door slammed after them
(page 675). This shows how the boys are having fun and enjoying each others company. Finally, the
front yard is the place that Hugh remembers some of his fond memories of his mother. Sometimes
she would be out fooling with the border of spring flowers the candytuft, the sweet William, the
lobelias (she had taught him the names)... (page 675). From this explanation, the reader can relate
to the character thinking about different memories that they may have that bring happy thoughts to
mind.
One of the only places in the house that brought a comfortable feeling to Hugh was the kitchen. The
kitchen is described as bright and clean and the best room in the house (page 676). In the kitchen,
there are fresh towels and clean dishes. This statement gives you the feeling that everything is
going well in the house and there is nothing wrong. The kitchen is also the only place in the house
that made Hugh feel comfortable and safe (Page 677), except on this particular day when there was
no note from his

Ivan Pavlov, John Watson, And B. F. Skinner
Learning Theories are one of the largest branches of modern psychology, branching mainly from
the theory presented by Ivan Pavlov in the early twentieth century. Learning, as defined by the
Merriam Webster dictionary, is described as the modification of a behavioral tendency by
experience. In psychology terms, learning is often known as a lasting change in behavior as a
result of experience. The psychology behind learning became more and more of a focus in the
early 1900 s as behaviorism(the theory that human, and animal, behavior can be explained in terms
of conditioning) rose to fame upon the release of an article written by John Watson. From then on,
more and more learning theories were released. These theories were attempts to... Show more

He began to study this further, and would pair the meat powder with various stimuli. After the dogs
were presented with this stimuli, like a bell, and the meat powder multiple times, they would
salivate just to the sound of the bell even if the powder wasn t presented. Pavlov then went on to
demonstrate these stimulus response bonds, which many consider the basic building blocks of
learning. He then spent much of the rest of his career devoted to researching further into this
finding. Pavlov called this classical conditioning, which is more modernly defined as a basic form
of learning where one stimulus or event predicts the occurrence of another stimulus or response.
This theory can also be known as Pavlovian conditioning. In every form of classical conditioning,
there some form of stimulus and a response. The main four are UCS, UCR, CS, and CR. The UCS
is known as the unconditioned stimulus, the UCR is the unconditioned response, the CS is known
as the conditioned stimulus, and the CR is the conditioned response. In this study, the UCS was the
food powder, while the UCR was the salivation. After conditioning took place, he CS became the
bell, and the CR was the salivation. B.F. Skinner and John Watson both branched off of this,
shaping their own theories.
Watson theorized that classical conditioning could be applied to all aspects of psychology, saying
that everything from speech to emotion followed the stimulus/response pattern. One

A Review Of Adaptive Technique For Image Super Resolution
A Review of Adaptive Technique for Image Super resolution
Prof. S. P. Bhosale

Increase in resolution of image has been one driving factor in the development and progress of the
п¬Ѓelds related to the capture, processing and display of digital images and video. Number of
authors has carried out research on various techniques on super resolution algorithms which are
classified into two basic categories: single frame super resolution and the more common multi
frame super resolution . Single frame super resolution is a very ill posed problem due to the lack
of any new additional information. Multi frame Super resolution on the other hand presents more
information in the form of Low Resolution (LR) frames that are displaced from each other making
it a more tractable problem. A related problem to super Resolution (SR) techniques is image
restoration, which is well established area in image processing application. An other problem
related to SR reconstruction is image interpolation that has been used to increase the size of a single
image.

Adaptive technique, super resolution technique, frequency domain method.

Global Warming Debate Essay
In the controversy over whether Global Warming there is two sides in which people can choose
either human caused or just Mother Nature doing her thing. Most scientists will tell you that
Global Warming is mostly the cause of humans. While there are some who will disagree and say
that it is just nature doing what it has done for thousands of years. For most scientists the topic of
global warmingis one that is caused by us humans. They have many facts data to back this up.
Some examples of these facts and data are the change in CO2 levels in the atmosphere, the rapid
increase in temperature, stronger storms such as hurricanes, melting ice caps, decrease in
permafrost, and the Larsen A B ice shelves. These are some of the biggest... Show more content on

As hurricanes come over warmer waters they gain strength. Over the past 30 years the intensity of
hurricanes has doubled over the past 30 years, according to multiple studies. As the temperatures of
our oceans increase in temperature hurricanes will continue to gain strength and continuously
intensify over the next few years. The increase in ocean temperatures doesn t just affect things
above the surface it also affect life underneath. As temperatures increase it directly affects the
coral, by interfering with the coral s process involved in photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis
the coral and zooxanthellae wouldn t be able to take the nitrogen waste that the coral produces
and turns the sunlight into sugar, which makes up 98% of the coral s food. When the
temperatures rise the coral then reacts and split with their mutualistic algae and the coral then
turns white. The process in which the coral turns white is called bleaching. Without coral reefs
hundreds of thousands of marine life that rely on coral reefs will eventually die along with the
reefs. In the debate of Global Warming in my opinion humans are the main cause. And some more
of how this can be attributed to us is the thawing of permafrost, and melting ice caps. Permafrost is
a big example because places where permafrost can be found is also where some towns and
communities are built, right on top of the permafrost. When

Thomas Malthus Are Called Neo Malthusian
Thomas Malthus was an english scholar and economist who lived in the 17th century. Malthus
had many theories about relationship of resources and growing populations. Malthus believed
that as populations grew, Earth s resource supply would remain the same, and we would
eventually have to many people to feed and take care of. Malthus believed nothing could stop
this tragedy from happening unless moral restraint produced lower crude birth rates, or if a
disease famine, war, or any tragedy produced higher crude death rates. Malthus s theories are still
believed by some today. People who believe in the ideas of Malthus are called Neo malthusians.

Malthus failed to see that poor countries would have very high growing populations as well,
because of the diffusion of medical technology from wealthy countries. This caused and even

depleting resources sides of Malthus s story. Critics say that Malthus s idea on resources are too
pessimistic. Critics say that Malthus s idea predicts that resources will forever remain the same,
and not expand. Critics also do not agree on Malthus s thoughts on population growth. Many
people do not see population growth as a problem, instead, they see it as a way to help boost our

Buddhist Meditation Practice Essay
Over this past year I have been involved in a buddhist meditation practice, I have been through
stages of resisting, doubting, and now more accepting this practice. The buddhist meditation
practice I participated in is a controversial religion in Taiwan. Even though the religion has almost a
hundred thousand followers including celebrities and business leaders, the religionitself is still
being judged by others due to its beliefs. The leader himself, Miao Chan, used to be a stuntman
and established the religion twenty years ago. Few years later, he claimed that he has attained full
Buddhahood just like Buddha did 2600 years ago. The practice consists of meditationand buddhism
learning. On weekdays, followers attend small sessions of meditation and learn about
buddhism. On Sundays, followers go to a stadium and meditate with Miao Chan for two hours.
My mother joined the religious group one and a half year ago and invited me to meditate with
her. I was persuaded to join the group and hated it at first. I always heard that meditation is a
healthy exercise for people, so when my mother started doing it I was really happy for her. Then
it all changed once I joined her. I realized that there was not just meditations, we were also asked
to pray to Master Miao Chan. Master Miao Chan was not like any monk I see in other buddhist
group, he is relatively young and has a wife that attends all the Sunday meditation session with him.
To me, bowing down to a man that claims himself

Such conversations bring to the viewer s attention the fact that they are only watching a constructed piece of entertainment, not something that is real as such. Another example can be observed in the blatant display of selfreflexivity when Mia makes eye contact with the camera and draws a square with her finger. A parallel example in cinema can be found in Jean Luc Godard s Le Mepris (1963), which is a Quentin Tarantino: Adventures in Contemporary Postmodern Cinema film about films and about itself (Page, 2005). This is also exemplified by Singing in the Rain (1952); Donald O Connor s reverse engineering of the plot of The Duelling Cavalier to become The Dancing Cavalier to include a modern jazz sequence in an adaptation of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court but set in revolutionary France in a musical film about a musical film, set at the beginning of musical film, but made at the end of musical film s golden age, fits all the prerequisites for the definition of postmodernism. By making small but significant changes to the conventions of cinema, the artificiality of the experience and the world presented are emphasized in the audience s mind in order to remove them from the conventional emotional bonds they have to the subject matter, and to give them a new view of it. Also, in many instances of his films

Layers Of Airport Security Identifying terrorists at airports is a very difficult task for homeland security professionals since terrorists can blend in very well with the more than 650 million law abiding passengers that travel every year via U.S. airports (United States Government Accountability Office, 2014). The security layered approach is a securitystrategy that helps reduce the risk of a terrorist infiltrating into an airport by employing a wide range of tools and programs that can enhance airport security (Hoggan, 2012). The numerous layers of security are designed to be able to prevent, identify, and stop a terrorist attack in case one of the previous security layers failed to do so (Cason, Lu, Schreckengast, 2010, pg. 88). Each security layer has their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This strategy allows DHS to be able identify suspicious individuals before they even arrive to the airport. The names of passengers are being matched against the database when the passengers book their flights prior to arriving to the airport, which is more time and cost effective for DHS than having to identify suspicious individuals among large crowds of people at airports. As mention above, all layers of security have some weak points and the Secure Flight program is not the exception. It may be very difficult for DHS to be able to effectively screen suspicious individuals without disrupting the flow of passengers since the screenings of suspicious individuals may take longer in comparison to those passengers who do not pose a threat or are not considered suspicious. Therefore to combat the Achilles heel of the Secure Flight program, DHS has created the TSA pre check program. The TSA pre check is a program in which passengers, usually those passengers who travel frequently, voluntarily submit themselves to extensive background investigations and if the passenger is able to meet the requirements posted by DHS, then the passenger will be allowed to go through expedite screenings when they travel as the passenger will be considered by DHS a Trusted passenger ... • 5. Reaction Of Howl s Moving Castle Howl s Moving Castle is a Japanese animated fantasy film scripted and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, produced by Toshio Suzui and animated by Studio Ghibli. The grahics for this film was beautifully made, there were gorgeous panoramic scenes, diverse and detailed character designs and with a flourish when the colors are applied. The wide range of colors used in this film really help things stand out and it also accentuate the antastical aspects of this film. Howl s Moving castle is set in a magical, fictional land of Ingary where the director s amazing imagination and astonishing detail is exhibited through the plot where the heroine unearths male protagonist s true nature and struggles to save him gave evocative power to this oblique fantasy ... This beautiful rustic setting replete with a glorious lake is in stark contrast to the fast paced city where Sophie lives. There the dark black clouds of smoke from the trains fill the air with pollution. But the most toxic thing of all is war itself with destructive battles going on in the air and on the land. Howl is transformed into a great birdlike warrior as he tries to put an end to conflict. CONCLUSION The first reason I chose this Japanese animated fantasy is to show that the standard perception of Japanese anime being strange, noisy and weird cartoons were misguided. Howl s Moving Castle is a perfect example of both that popularity (it was nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar) and of how the genre defies easy classification. This story reinforces healthy lessons about the importance of family and friendship Second reason is that this film is hard to understand for some viewers, prompting a response like It seems very pretty but it s rather hard to understand. therefore I would like to attempt to analysize this film as I feel that through patience and careful observation the film has a lot of depth and meaning to it. Even though Eminem became famous at such a young age, Eminem s path to stardom was not an easy task. Although known for constant controversy, the rapper Eminem is a world renown artist whose music has influenced and impacted many fans and critics. On October 17, 1972, a child was born in the deep ghetto of Saint Joseph, Missouri, troubled with a hard life consisting of no father, a druggy mother, and seemingly alone. This child became one of the most recognized rappers in the world, he is Marshall Bruce Mathers the third (Mattern 1). Over the years Marshall became close with his uncle (Ronnie Mathers) who inspired him quite much and also introduced him to rap and hip hop. Only a few years after Ronnie had introduced Marshall to hip hop, Ronnie committed suicide ( Eminem Contemporary). This affected Marshall greatly for the man who practically raised him over the years had just committed suicide leaving Marshall alone once again. Growing up in a very rough and poor town living in a small 747 square foot home (often depicted on album titles such as his newest album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (Deluxe)) showed the rough conditions of Marshall s hard child life ( Eminem Contemporary). Every day was a new battle for this young man. Constantly fighting his way to the top with not only his fist but also his lyrics and quick rhymes. Marshall s father had walked out on him and his ... It seems like a simple idea of how society perceives ugliness. The myth may be saying that truly hideous people deserved the monstrous things that are coming to them, yet there is more to the story and image of this woman. People have to look into what happened to her that society perceives her as hideous.Society has to think about whose fault was it for her becoming a monster. The image I picked is of Medusa s head cut off on a shield (Gill, N.S.). The problem here is that Medusa does not look that ugly. In most pictures, Medusa just looks like a beautiful woman who has snake for her hair. It seems strange that society and history remember her as ugly. One reason is because of the snakes in her hair. Images show that her hair is full of many snakes. On her head, is looks to be multiple kinds of snake. Some snakes look to be dice snakes, Natrix Tessellate, which are venomous snakes found in Europe (McLaren, John). People hate snakes and fear them. In many cultures such as Christianity, snakes are evil. Satan took the form of one in the Garden of Eve to seduce Adam and Eve to commit sin. It works and mankind is driven out of the Garden forever ( Are snakes evil? Does the Bible say anything about snakes? ). The image of a snake makes many shiver in fear of it. Most of the Greek myths show snakes in a distrustful manner. Most of Ancient Greek believed that snakes were liars and intelligent, but not to trust them. Medusa is an important goddess used a lot in Greek female myths. In Greek myths, her hair which is of snakes can show the symbolism of snakes. Snakes were said to have shown the natural cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. In Greek myths the shedding of their skins and by getting new skin it shows rebirth. The shredding of the snakes ... The presence of LXRО± and LXRОІ mRNA within human immortalized epidermal keratinocytes was also documented.20 A nearly significant association between the epidermal nucleo cytoplasmic expression of LXR О± and the high VIDA scores was noted in studied cases of the present work (P=0.09). • 11. Compare And Contrast Essay On The Lovely Bones Compare and Contrast of the remediation of Novels to film with reference to The Lovely Bones. The Lovely Bones is a 2002 novel by Alice Sebold about a teenage girl called Susie Salmon, a 14 year old girl who was raped and murdered by her neighbour George Harvey in 1973. She then watches from her own personal Heaven as her family and friends struggle to move on with their lives while she comes to terms with her own death. We follow Susie Salmon throughout the story as she witnesses the events on the earth, experiencing hopes and longings for the everyday things she can no longer do. In 2005 Director Peter Jackson secured the books film rights and created his own film adaptation in 2009 which was met with mixed reviews but overall was well received. The film relatively stays faithful to the novel by Alice Sebold but major themes of the story are glanced over or emphasized, characters aren t as developed and some major plot points are missing entirely. The novel The Lovely Bones has many characters who each have their own subplots which contribute to the overall story in minor ways and gives the reader the opportunity to learn about each character. For example one of the biggest elements of the story is Heaven and its depiction. In the novel Sebold who was raised Episcopalian intended the heaven to be simplistic in design and not to be the focus of the story. Unlike in Peter Jackson s film where heaven is ultimately a large proportion of the film, focusing more on spectacle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These students often face difficulties within their curriculum, and struggle to understand a variety of subjects and topics. With that being said, these students need additional readingintervention in order to comprehend the material being learned across each of their classes. • 21. The Disciple Thomas The disciple Thomas is a familiar Biblical character because of a specific incident involving his disbelief. (John 20). Jesus had just risen from the dead and the rest of the disciples were elated after seeing him. Thomas had not yet seen Jesus after His resurrection and he was adamant that what his friends had witnessed couldn t be true. Nevertheless, he did have a certain curiosity and willingly stayed with his friends in hopes of seeing what they saw. He just could not bring himself to believe that Jesushad truly risen from the dead. He would not believe without beholding the Christ before his own eyes and touching his wounds with his own hands. Thomas let his fear, anxiety, and what seemed like logic take hold of him, and he had a hard time letting it all go. He needed proof to justify what God had told him long ahead of time would happen. Thomas learned a great lesson the day that Jesus appeared in the upper room before all of his disciples. He was told by his Master that he would have been more blessed if he had only believed what he could not see. As soon as Thomas felt Jesus wounds and saw him, he declared, My Lord and my God (John 20.28). He was still greatly blessed, but not in the wonderful way that God wanted him to be. What an important lesson for the Christian to learn;when God says something, he means it and he doesn t intend to break his promise. • 30. Creativism a Constant Company of Humans Throughout History As Carl Gustav Jung wisely stated, there is a certain fascination with regard to creativity. Creativity expresses itself in many different forms, shapes, sizes, colours and sounds. It is a concept difficult to grasp as it is broad. However most people would think of themselves as being able to judge who and what is actually creative. But what exactly is creativity? Amible (1983) defines creativity as the production of ideas, insights and also products that are both, original and adaptive. Originality in this context refers to novelty of an idea and adaptation to the appropriateness. This is the definition predominantly used in creativity research (Sternberg Lubart 1999; Simonton Damian,2013) and is therefore used in this paper as well. In historical terms, creativity was a constant accompanist of human kind. We had to change the environment, and invent tools according to our needs in order to survive. Thus, creativity is a universal occurrence in all cultures (Simonton Ting, 2010). However, which idea is assumed to be original and appropriate, so considered to be creative, depends strongly on context and time (Njistad et al., 2010). As stated by Nijstad et al. (2010) the work of Vincent van Gough is a good example of a different perception of creativity in different times. When Van Gough died he was a poor man but his works are sold for millions today. Similar is the example of the French post impressionist artist Paul Gauguin who was not well appreciated until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Effects Of Social Stratification In The Great Gatsby The impact of prevailing social stratification is multi dimensional in the novel. It is noted that social stratification has great effects on racism. We find that Tom is a racist, and his racist attitude is due to his high social status. He attacks Gatsby and questions about his fake claim of an Oxford graduate to break the intimacy between her wife Daisy and Gatsby. He knows that revealing the truth is the only way to create a negative impact on Daisy s mind about Gatsby. Another interpretation can be taken from Tom s behavior is that Tom shows his aristocratic, rude and arrogant attitude. Indicating Gatsby as a bootlegger , Mr. Nobody , he shows hardly any sympathy and courtesy to Gatsby. His attitude toward Gatsby in such way would be impossible if he belongs to an inferior class. Tom is also proud of his Nordic race . His intention is to neglect the inferior people for their skin color. He is not a man to take any change easily. He cannot think of intermarriage between black and white (Fitzgerald 103).Even Nick shows his racist behavior, pointing to the passengers three modish Negroes . Racism toward the blacks is found, and this reaction of Nick is because of his social status as an American. Tom does not hesitate to cancel his wife s whiteness for his cruel racism. • 43. Research Paper On Jane Flanders The world has several great poets and many mind blowing works, each with its own way of portraying its own message and some the same ones. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the real meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Flanders sees the world as simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough. Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted and used for the wrong reasons. Flanders uses this line to represent the things in the world that are there and difficult to get without giving up something in return. The special treasure that is there from the start is often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose their value over time. Robert Frost, on the other hand, used a more fictional approach in Nothing Gold Can Stay . Nature s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. This couplet has one key theme, hat not only lies in the word choice but in the poem, itself. The start of spring is when all the new flowers bloom and the leaves on trees become greener. The start of something new and beautiful is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Technological Revolution Has Changed The Access Of... 1.0 Introduction The advent of the technological revolution has fundamentally changed the access that citizens within a democracy have to sensitive and private information about governments, organisations, workplaces and fellow citizens. It is incumbent upon individuals to honour the privacy of this information. The protection of sensitive information is considered paramount, yet anyone with information that they feel is in the public interest and is faced with no avenues to make their concerns known is turning to the internet as a platform for the swift dissemination of material and a layer of anonymity (Savage 2013) and this new era of what is known as whistleblowing has given rise to cyberethics. According to the Congressional Research Service, whistleblowing is defined as making a disclosure evidencing illegal or improper government (and corporate) activities (Whitaker cited in Koh, 2012). The individuals who make these disclosures are termed whistleblowers, and while the information they expose is protected by legislation and codes of conduct, they are usually not afforded the same level of protection, and indeed, are open to prosecution for breaking the law. The purpose of this report is to evaluate whether all citizens in a democracy should be protected from criminalisation for exposing nepotism and corruption. 2.0 Methods As whistleblowing in a cyber context is a new field of study, there is limited quantitative research available. The knowledge produced about the idea in this case of the normal body is a standarization female of ideals within modern society. This image is a representation of the embodiment by society of what an ideal female should look like and is reflected into this Victoria s Secret advertisement campaign. Drawing on Lock and Nguyen s (2010) discussion on the natural body this advertisement presents a powerful example of how an ideal persists as the body is objectified to conform to a societal ideal in social representations. It also suggests tht the body is a homogenious space , women are classified and objectified and placed in a category and this is what the perfect body looks like. Amyl nitrite consists of a clear, yellowish liquid that is sold in a cloth, covered sealed bulb. This type of nitrite is also known as a snapper or popper because the bulb makes a snapping sound when it is broken (Missouri Department of Mental Health, n.d.). On the other hand, butyl nitrite comes in small bottles sold as video head cleaner, room odorizer, leather cleaner and liquid aroma (NIDA, 2010). • 49. Literary Analysis Of The Haunted Boy Literary Analysis The Haunted Boy The setting is used by the author in stories to display the mood of the scene. Specific details bring up certain moods for the characters and the reader. For example, when talking about a warm, sunny day, the reader can infer that the scene is going to be happy and there is going to be no misfortunate event that happens. Carson Smith McCullers uses the setting in her short story The Haunted Boy to display the different moods of the main character Hugh. The settings in the story help show how uncomfortable Hugh is in the house after a past experience and shows how happy he is outside when he remembers happy memories. The beginning of the story starts out with one of few happy settings. The front yard was one of the only places that brought happy feelings to the story. McCullers short story starts out by describing the day having sunshine on a mid April afternoon and the front lawn being green (page 675). These descriptions allow the reader to think warm and colorful thoughts. The story then goes to talk about how the boys are running outside in the warm. Hugh race up the sidewalk, and John followed him. They finished the front steps with two bounds, and the door slammed after them (page 675). This shows how the boys are having fun and enjoying each others company. Finally, the front yard is the place that Hugh remembers some of his fond memories of his mother. Sometimes she would be out fooling with the border of spring flowers the candytuft, the sweet William, the lobelias (she had taught him the names)... (page 675). From this explanation, the reader can relate to the character thinking about different memories that they may have that bring happy thoughts to mind. One of the only places in the house that brought a comfortable feeling to Hugh was the kitchen. The kitchen is described as bright and clean and the best room in the house (page 676). In the kitchen, there are fresh towels and clean dishes. This statement gives you the feeling that everything is going well in the house and there is nothing wrong. The kitchen is also the only place in the house that made Hugh feel comfortable and safe (Page 677), except on this particular day when there was no note from his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Ivan Pavlov, John Watson, And B. F. Skinner Learning Theories are one of the largest branches of modern psychology, branching mainly from the theory presented by Ivan Pavlov in the early twentieth century. Learning, as defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, is described as the modification of a behavioral tendency by experience. In psychology terms, learning is often known as a lasting change in behavior as a result of experience. The psychology behind learning became more and more of a focus in the early 1900 s as behaviorism(the theory that human, and animal, behavior can be explained in terms of conditioning) rose to fame upon the release of an article written by John Watson. From then on, more and more learning theories were released. These theories were attempts to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He began to study this further, and would pair the meat powder with various stimuli. After the dogs were presented with this stimuli, like a bell, and the meat powder multiple times, they would salivate just to the sound of the bell even if the powder wasn t presented. Pavlov then went on to demonstrate these stimulus response bonds, which many consider the basic building blocks of learning. He then spent much of the rest of his career devoted to researching further into this finding. Pavlov called this classical conditioning, which is more modernly defined as a basic form of learning where one stimulus or event predicts the occurrence of another stimulus or response. This theory can also be known as Pavlovian conditioning. In every form of classical conditioning, there some form of stimulus and a response. The main four are UCS, UCR, CS, and CR. The UCS is known as the unconditioned stimulus, the UCR is the unconditioned response, the CS is known as the conditioned stimulus, and the CR is the conditioned response. In this study, the UCS was the food powder, while the UCR was the salivation. After conditioning took place, he CS became the bell, and the CR was the salivation. B.F. Skinner and John Watson both branched off of this, shaping their own theories. Watson theorized that classical conditioning could be applied to all aspects of psychology, saying that everything from speech to emotion followed the stimulus/response pattern. One ... Bhosale Assistant Professor , Department of electronics, A.I.S.S.M.S COE, Pune, India spbhosale@aisssmscoe.com ABSTRACT Increase in resolution of image has been one driving factor in the development and progress of the п¬Ѓelds related to the capture, processing and display of digital images and video. Number of authors has carried out research on various techniques on super resolution algorithms which are classified into two basic categories: single frame super resolution and the more common multi frame super resolution . Single frame super resolution is a very ill posed problem due to the lack of any new additional information. Multi frame Super resolution on the other hand presents more information in the form of Low Resolution (LR) frames that are displaced from each other making it a more tractable problem. A related problem to super Resolution (SR) techniques is image restoration, which is well established area in image processing application. An other problem related to SR reconstruction is image interpolation that has been used to increase the size of a single image. Most scientists will tell you that Global Warming is mostly the cause of humans. While there are some who will disagree and say that it is just nature doing what it has done for thousands of years. For most scientists the topic of global warmingis one that is caused by us humans. They have many facts data to back this up. Some examples of these facts and data are the change in CO2 levels in the atmosphere, the rapid increase in temperature, stronger storms such as hurricanes, melting ice caps, decrease in permafrost, and the Larsen A B ice shelves. These are some of the biggest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As hurricanes come over warmer waters they gain strength. Over the past 30 years the intensity of hurricanes has doubled over the past 30 years, according to multiple studies. As the temperatures of our oceans increase in temperature hurricanes will continue to gain strength and continuously intensify over the next few years. The increase in ocean temperatures doesn t just affect things above the surface it also affect life underneath. As temperatures increase it directly affects the coral, by interfering with the coral s process involved in photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis the coral and zooxanthellae wouldn t be able to take the nitrogen waste that the coral produces and turns the sunlight into sugar, which makes up 98% of the coral s food. When the temperatures rise the coral then reacts and split with their mutualistic algae and the coral then turns white. The process in which the coral turns white is called bleaching. Without coral reefs hundreds of thousands of marine life that rely on coral reefs will eventually die along with the reefs. In the debate of Global Warming in my opinion humans are the main cause. And some more of how this can be attributed to us is the thawing of permafrost, and melting ice caps. Permafrost is a big example because places where permafrost can be found is also where some towns and communities are built, right on top of the permafrost. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
