With this rebirth of traditional African culture, the number of African American
artists rapidly increased. It became difficult for these artists to gain employment,
even with the assistance of government work relief programs, such as the Works
Progress Administration (WPA). Set up by President Roosevelt as part of his New
Deal program, the WPA offered jobs to thousands of unemployed artists, in an
attempt to boost the nation s morale, as well as stimulate the depressed economy.
Despite its good intentions, the government program was unable to pay decent
wages and failed to provide employment for nearly five million artists (American). In
response to this failure, the Harlem Artist Guild, founded in 1928, aggressively
began to work alongside the WPA to ensure the success of African American artists.
Led by its first president, Aaron Douglas, the activist organization played an
influential role in helping artists attain the recognition necessary to qualify them for
the WPA work projects (Bearden 131). With the assistance of Douglas, the Harlem

Have you felt awkward, worried or even tense during social encounters? Do you

Introduction:
Grignard reagents are form when an alkyl halide is treated with magnesium to have
the form of R Mg X. Grignard reagents are typically very strong nucleophiles
because of the difference between the carbon and magnesium s electronegativity.
Alcohol typically is a result of a Grignard reaction. The reaction involves reacting a
Grignard reagent with a carbonyl. The purpose of this experiment is to prepare a
triphenylmethanol. The success of the experiment can be proved by comparing the
boiling point that is provided and by using the reading of an IR spectrum.
Procedure:
A. Preparation of Triphenylmethanol:
Reaction of Bromobenzene with Magnesium: 4 mmol of magnesium were weighed
and left in the round bottom flask. An apparatus was set up for the addition under
reflux and a drying tube was attached to the apparatus. 6 mL portion of anhydrous
diethyl ether was transferred to a dry 4 dram vial. Then, 4 mmol of dry
bromobenzene was moved to a 3 mL conical vial and dissolved in a 1 mL of
anhydrous diethyl ether. The flask was detached momentarily to rub the magnesium
pieces while the flask was warmed by hand. 2 mL of diethyl ether was transferred to
the bromobenzene conical vial. The reaction was supposed to boil at that time, but
nothing happened except for very few bubbles. Then, ether was added to the
reaction. The reaction was moved to a 40ЛљC water bath for about 15 minutes.

love between a human, Bella Swan, and a vampire, Edward Cullen. Unfortunately,
many people know Twilight only by its 2008 film interpretation, and because of the
quality of its movie, they figure the novel is low quality as well. Those who have
read the novel know this is not true; Twilight is full of elements that make the story
devourable by its readers. It is packed with symbolism in its front cover and in

Writer s Technique Through Foreshadowing and Dramatic Irony Whether a reader
knows about the traits of a Twilight vampire or not, it is very easy to pick out
examples of foreshadowing and dramatic irony in the book. Stephenie Meyer
drops several hints pertaining to what Edward is, and many readers realize that
Edward is a vampire long before Bella ever does. In Twilight, Stephenie Meyer uses
the techniques of foreshadowing and dramatic irony to build suspense and reveal
important character information about the Cullens. Stephenie Meyer drops
foreshadowing to Edward and his family being vampires in several ways; some of
her foreshadowing methods are so subtle that readers don t pick up on them right
away and only notice them later in the book. One major way she foreshadows Edward
s vampirism is through the innocent thoughts and intuitions of Bella Swan. A lot of
foreshadowing about the Cullens is done right away, in Chapter 1, when Bella first

The first theme demonstrated in this movie is Perseverance, which was illustrated in
the film by Wesley, and his determination to go through all the physical test to meet
standards of the fraternity. His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove
that he could become more than what he always has considered himself, which is
below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat up by multiple people in the
fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand anything. He learned

I choose to read this letter because it appealed to me because of soldier s feeling
toward the war, how he titled his letter LAST LETTER HOME , and short
sentences that shows the damage the war has taken on Larry Getting short, Mom,

Wars meant more than violence and actions to the soldiers. After having analyzing
