The Laboratory Of Neural Systems
I joined the Laboratory of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning and Memory (NSDSLM),
also known as the Mizumori laboratory on April 2015. Mizumori laboratory is a laboratory located
in the psychology department of University of Washington, Seattle. Its primary focus is to
understand the neural mechanism of natural and adaptive behaviors. Spatial navigation, a behavior
central for an animal s survival has remained the model under analysis in this laboratory. The
principal investigator of this lab, and my primary researchmentor is Dr. Sheri Mizumori. Upon
joining the Mizumori laboratory, I have been shadowing the postdoctoral research associate of the
Mizumori laboratory, Dr. Philip Baker. He introduced me to laboratory research study and
facilitated in the progressive improvement of my comprehension in neuroscienceresearch.
The initial study that I began working on with Dr. Baker was about lateral habenula s (LHb)
involvement in behavior switching when presented with a cue. The LHb is a structure identified
for its role in signaling negative outcomes or cues (Bomberg Martin et al, 2011; Proulex et al,
2014). It projects to dopaminergic, serotoninergic, and norepinephrine systems that are
acknowledged to be important when switches in behavior are required (Robbins and Arnsten,
2009; Lecourtier and Kelly, 2007). My responsibilities in this study mainly included handling and
training rats, recording of rat behaviors through a series of sensors and robotic doors around

The generation of the technology, the delayed life choices, the impatience, the reliance on our
parents, more commonly known as Generation Y or Millennials, is the generation born between
1980 and 2000. Older generations are always finding fault with what we, the Millennials, do or
say or didn t do or didn t say. The world is changing so fast, we can hardly keep up. It is bad
enough we have to push to learn as much as we can and apply the knowledge effectively, let
alone being criticized for every move we make by our elders, who don t really seem to help

are about to graduate, or have recently graduated high school or college, with some not even 18

majors, but what happens after college when some people still don t know exactly what they

Cultural competence has been a heavy topic throughout class, the way we view different races,
cultures, and walks of life generates from the way these groups are portrayed in the media. If we
never get a chance to have direct contact with those from other walks of life, we began to group
these different races or cultures together and think everyone is the same way as those we see in
movies and on television. Although, we heavily discussed Latinos who have migrated to the

In the beginning of the film the audience is first welcome with Rose Perez (Tina) dancing against

The Battle Of The Soldiers
The three Soldiers were able to make it to the coast, they had taken a route that took them around
the Marines and 82nd Airborne, while making note of their numbers, vehicles and weapons.
They were surprised to find them there, with Second Brigade no place in sight. They entered
Baltimore from the north and headed South East, they found much of the city sparse with life,
they had found some civilians that had told them of the Supreme General and her Army and
how they were defeated. The Soldiers again, found themselves surprised, they were told stories
of fighter aircraft coming out of nowhere, and destroying the main base. They were also told of
the mighty shells that came in and destroyed the Supreme Generals compound. Following the
aircraft and shells came the Marines, fighting anyone that stood in their way, taking back the city.
The people they spoke with told them not to get them wrong, they were happy with the actions of
the Marines, they cleared out most of the gangs or ran them off. Life had been easier and safer

The title of the play is Buried Child by Sam Shepard. Buried Child was a play written in 1978
and the genre of the play is Drama. Buried Child is about a family in the mid west who has been
led by one tragedy after another while also holding a great secret about a child born from their
mother affair with her own son killed and buried by Dodge the mother s husband.
The characters in Buried Child is Dodge the grandpa also known as Halie s husband. Halie the
grandma of Vincent and mother of Tilden and Bradley. She also had a son name Ansel but he
was murdered. Tilden is Halie s son but also was the son who had an affair with Halie and later
got her pregnant. Bradley is the son of Halie and Dodge; he has lost his legs in a chainsaw
accident. Vincent is Tilden s son and Vincent is currently dating a girl name Shelly. Shelly is
Vincent girlfriend but she is harassed by his family brutally. Lastly, there is Father Dewis who is a
priest but is also having an affair with Halie.

Thesis: Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days is a quintessentially postmodern novel because of its
cynical tone, its confluence of imagery, and its treatment of social and existential alienation.
I. When the protagonist first arrives in West Virginia, his sense of alienation and isolation become
poignant: setting the stage for what is becoming a postmodern novel. His experience checking into
the hotel as a journalist offers telling evidence of the theme of alienation: The desk man at the
hotel gave him a press packet when he registered, checking his name off a list, but J. hasn t
bothered to look at it so he doesn t know what time dinner is, (p. 693). The imagery that Whitehead
uses solidifies the core theme of social alienation. Here, the protagonist s name is disembodied. His
name is on the list, legitimizing his status in the society. On the list, he belongs to a group a

belief systems that exists worldwide has a significant influence on the opposing viewpoints of
many current hot button issues, and despite the intended separation of church and state here in
the United States; religion is both a social and political force. A person s spiritual beliefs often
provide the basis for his or her entire lifestyle, including physical appearance, dietary choices, and
perhaps most importantly, decisions that directly involve one s perspective of right and wrong.
Even those who do not identify with any one particular religion typically have some knowledge of
the world s major religions, such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, or Islam, simply because of
their enormous numbers in terms of followers which continue to rapidly expand.
However, beyond these theological giants exists a multitude of smaller, but no less meaningful,
other religions. Zoroastrianism, for example, is one of today s smallest religions, with an estimated

agreeable tone, when in fact, what he is saying is not of reason. From this, the audience can tell
that Jack is arguing for the sake of arguing, since his words are not of actual substance, which
makes it even funnier seeing that he is constructing an irrelevant link that does not even prove his

However, due to the demand for soldiers for World War II the wheels of the operation did not
officially begin until almost 30 years later (1). Approval for the Tellico project came in the early
1960s when the TVA had the unified support of congressional delegates from Tennessee
, as well as
all other southeastern states that would be directly affected by the damming of the Little Tennessee
River. On April 15, 1963, after the endorsement for the project was approved, congressional
funding was sought after in order to move forward with foundational structure. Finally, after a few
minor complications in procedure, the Public Works Appropriation Act included $3.2 million to
begin the construction of the tellico Dam in March of 1967. (21) Originally, the support for the
dam on the governmental side was lacking, due to the notion that the benefit to cost ratio hovered
around .6 to 1. The rationale for such dismal projections was due to the fact that Tellico Dam could
not stand alone as a power generation project. This forced the TVA to adjust how they pitched the
idea to receive enough funding to ensure that the idea received enough support.(16) Rather than
