South Carolina Dbq Questions And Answers
Why Was Charles Town Impenetrable to Settle On South Carolina is a triven state in the United
States, it has a lot of history to it like having a lot to do in the revolutionary war. It has some of the
outstanding neighborhood in America. It seems to be a good vacation spot, well it would surprise
people to know that South Carolina was once a place where some settlers were trying to settle on the
land, but a couple of things kept the settlers from settling on the rich land. Geography, resources, and
diseases.
One of the reasons Charles Town was tough to settle on was because of geography, the early maps
made it challenging for settles because of the fear of abduction or being taken prisoner from Natives
Americans or pirates. The early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the first settlers landed on south carolina they were limited with resources. When settlers came
they described the land as flat and woody which means covered in trees as it is stated in Document B,
James Glen, A Description of south Carolina, 1761, the land of South Carolina for a hundred or a
hundred and fifty miles back is flat and woody; intersected with many large rivers, some of which rise
out of the out of the Cherokee Mountains. The land made finding a place to settle hard because it was
hard to reach. After they settled or somewhat of settled the diversity of the soil made it tough to grow
food, soil like clay, loam, and marl were hard to distinguish. Clay is a type of soil that does not help
plants grow or can grow plant, loam is like clay but with sand and silt, but silt is like a fertilizer that
helps plants grow .The diversity of the lands soil made it difficult for the settlers to identify the type of
soil like clay, loam, and marl. The lands of savannah was also cleared by indians and did not produce
any trees. The land they wanted to settle on was filled with dangerous creatures of nature. These
creatures include Panthers, Tigers, wolves, and other dangerous animals, which in a cause of this
became dangerous at night, and day.
There was another reason South Carolina was hard to settle on, it s because to diseases. Diseases like
the small poxs were what damaged the population and reduced it to not that much people. Then the
settlers decided to settle in South carolina, they were mat with a violent kind of small pox rages in
Charles Town. As it is stated in Document E The Letterbook of Eliza Lucas Pinckney 1739 1762 a
violent kind of small pox rages in Charles Town that most puts a stop to all business . The small pox
are one of the reasons South Carolina was tough to settle

The demand for beef after the Civil War sparked the cattle boom. Ranchers would hire cowboys to

Most of the cattle died in severe blizzards which brought an end to it. 27) Indian Wars: The Indian

The Indus Valley Civilization
The Indus valley civilizations was an intriguing and sophisticated ancient culture and also a major
contributor in the development of what later came to be known as Hinduism . The civilization was
founded accidentally in the 19th century when the British engineers were searching for ballast for a
railway line in north western India (which is now modern day Pakistan) and found the remains of what
seemed to be an ancient city which was only known only to locals until then. In the early 20th century,
when other similar sites were uncovered, archaeologists realized the significance of the discovery,
which turned out to be one of the most prospering civilizations of the ancient world. It is called The
Indus Valley Civilization because most of its settlements are situated along the banks of the Indus
River .The largest and most important of this civilization were its two prospering cities known as
Mohenjo Daro and Harappa. These names are of post Indus origin as they were given with reference
to the towns built much later on the ruins of these ancient cities. During their prosperous period,,
Mohenjo Daro and Harappa had a population of around 40 50 thousand, which was a lot by ancient
standards. Both of these cities were highly organized and strategically planned, and displayed
remarkably similar features during their excavation. Given the structure of the cities, archaeologists
suggest that there may have been a central authority for code enforcement and the Harappan

United Airlines Research Paper
United Airlines is the second of the world s largest, and strongest, airlines. From humble beginnings as
a small air mail providers flying Contract Air Mail (CAM) route 5 from Elko, Nevada to Pasco,
Washington rail road center, to an airline today that is a premier member and cofounder of the Star
Alliance, with numerous other airlines that span the globe, United has had a long and colorful past.
In 1926, then Varney Air Lines founded by Walter Varney, flew a short mail route under the recently
established Kelley Act, using the post office to furnish funding and routes to provide airmail service.
Varney began purchasing other small airmail carriers within the United States, Pacific Air Transport
(CAM 8) that flew from Los Angeles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under Post Master Walter Folger Brown, a plan was devised to eliminate reckless competition
(Wensveen, p 49), and since United supported the postmasters plan, was awarded the northern of three
main airmail routes within the country.
The 1930 s also saw something unique that still shapes airlines today. Ellen Church of San Francisco
and a registered nurse, became the first airline stewardess in the history of the airlines. Partly to help
the public feel safe about flying, a woman was chosen who also was a nurse to help passengers in
flight and was approved by Pat Patterson, future United Air Lines President (flatrock.org.nz). Miss
Church, along with Steve Simpson, a Boeing ticket office manager, wrote the first manual for flight
attendants.
The airline we see today was solidified with the Airmail Act of 1934. Signed by President Roosevelt,
the airmail act regulated equipment needed for specific routes, and eliminated a lot of smaller regional
airlines/air transport companies from operations. Also, it barred airlines and aircraft manufacturers
from being a single corporation. Up until this time, the major airlines all were part of larger
corporations with different manufacturers and other parts suppliers. Now, Boeing and United had to go

Netflix Is An International Provider Of Television Series
INTRODUCTION
Netflix is an international provider of television series, cartoons, and movies. It was founded by Reed
Hastings and Marc Randolph on August 29, 1997. It has its headquarters in Los Gatos, California.
Seventy five million people are subscribed to Netflix, and forty four million of the subscribers are
from the United States of America (Lieberman). Netflix was recently launched in one hundred and
thirty countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia. Subscribers sign up to
enjoy the various television shows and movies for a monthly fee of eight dollars (Fakhruddin). The

Nonetheless, there are chances that Netflix suffer losses in China.
Netflix might make an immense loss in China because the rival television service providers, such as
Xunlei, Tencent, and Youku Tudou, have tough local competition (Osawa).
4
Most Chinese nationals have access to the free to air channels. According to the expert researchers, it
could take three to five years to convince the subscribers to pay for the television service. Besides, the
Chinese government maintains enough funds to produce and develop the China film content, such as
documentaries, action movies, and dramas (Leung).
The Netflix s competitors also offer advertising services. For example, the Alibaba Company bought
Youku Tudou. Alibaba is the largest website for online buying and selling of goods and services.
However, Netflix offers television entertainment services only. Alibaba conducts several types of
researches concerning consumer preference, which gives it a competitive advantage over Netflix.
Therefore, it is difficult for Netflix to compete with companies holding crucial information about the
products preferred in the market (Jaafar). Furthermore, China s television service providers ensure that
the theatrical series and movies are made available three to four weeks after release. Such promptness
attracts more subscribers. On the contrary, Hollywood s theatrical releases are made available only
after a few months. As a result, Chinese prefer

Essay Overview of Dementia
Dementia is a syndrome, which is usually of a chronic or progressive nature, which causes
deterioration in cognitive function. It goes beyond what is expected from normal aging. It causes
changes in what you remember, like appointments, or phone numbers. It may cause you to get lost in a
familiar setting like driving to the grocery store. You may not be able to balance your checkbook or
add up your points in a card game. Communication becomes difficult; as you cannot find the words
you want to say. Your personality may change, you may become paranoid, be crabby or short
tempered, and you may say or do inappropriate things or laugh when nothing is funny. Dementia is
one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older people ... Show more content on

Even though people with dementia can stay fully conscious, they have loss of short and long term
memory partially or in full. These people may also have difficulty expressing themselves or making
themselves understood. They may not be able to follow patterns or recipes even though they may have
hundreds of times before. They may not realize what time it is or what season it is. They may even get
lost on the way home from the grocery store. The majority of dementia is not inherited, but it depends
a lot on the particular cause of dementia. Some rare causes of dementia are inherited, like Huntington
s disease. This is an autosomal dominant disease, which means that only one faulty copy of the gene is
needed to inherit the disease (Living with dementia magazine April 2009 n.d). If someone had an
inherited disease and lived long enough, they could pass it on and it wouldn t skip a generation.
Dementia affects each person in a different way, depending on the impact of the disease and the
person s personality before he/she became ill. The signs and symptoms that are linked to dementia can
be understood in three stages. There are the early stages, middle stages, and late stages. The early
stages of dementia are almost always overlooked since the onset is gradual. The symptoms are
familiar to us all, like misplacing items, forgetting appointments not being aware of the time. As
dementia reaches the middle stage, the

political leaders come up with war strategies which when implemented leads to failures or losses. War
analytical failures are always attributed to lack of sufficient intelligence information about the
opponents, failure to predict possible long term consequences, having misleading information, poor
leadership and overreliance on weapons without knowing their weakness. In contrast, however,
military disaster can befall some territories, irrespective well informed their generals are, because of
weakness in their abilities. Super powerful countries may also face the same problem because their
leaders may misperceive on coming warnings and threats or make poor calculations in the way they
respond to possible catastrophic dangers1. Strategic intelligence is essential in making the most
appropriate decisions when it comes to defense policies. There should be proper gathering, analysis
and appreciations of pertinent and factual data. In most intelligence failures, problems always starts
with collection of data from the ground by professionals who then analyses

Descriptive Essay About Kahului Airport
As I leave for Oregon I enter the Kahului airport, a fairly familiar site as I ve been here a number of
times for various reasons. Once inside I head to my destination, which isn t too hard to find. The
airport is sparsely populated with people awaiting their flights. On the way to my gate I come across a
hot dog stand selling overpriced hot dogs. With nothing else to eat I bought one for myself and one for
each of my brothers. Aside from each bite being a mouthful of onions, it was decent enough. Maybe
he d make more of a profit if he halved the amount of onions he used on each hotdog. I sit at one of
the seats that line the aisles to eat my overpriced food. Beside me my brothers sit and eat their own
hotdogs, the seats across the aisle remain empty much like most of the airport. The time comes to
board the plane, the small space is filled and we take off shortly after. Looking out the window all you
can see is the dark of night and the lights coming from the island. With a long flight ahead, I do my
best to rest while I can. Following a six hour flight from Maui I arrive in San Francisco. I step off the
plane and am greeted by a sea of people and an airport much larger than the one in Kahului. The much
more calm feeling of the island is replaced by the hustle and bustle of the much larger city, quite
honestly it s a tad strange. There was not a moment s rest for these people as they hurried along from
one gate to the next. There s no order in the way people walk, sometimes

Cinematic Techniques In What Dreams May Come
Cinematic Technique Analysis
Can two tapestries made with similar thread, truly weave two different pictures? Surely if the broad
scope of each tapestry is conceived and developed with the same material interlaced throughout, the
end result will be similar. However, the tiny threads of difference woven amongst those similar strands
can result in one tapestry quite altered from the other. An example of this can be found in comparing
the film What Dreams May Come, directed by Vincent Ward, to Dante Alighieri s book The Inferno,
upon which it is based. The film follows Chris Nielsen as he searches Heaven and Hell for his lost
wife, just as Dante searched for his love in The Inferno. While the fibers of similarity look alike in this
book and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film, Chris and Annie and their fates are the embodiment of good and evil. Despite these
oppositional forces, Ward shows that similarities exist as well. For example, multiple times throughout
the film they each wore blue. This color symbolizes peace, and even though both characters went
through very challenging trials, they were still able to find joy in the little moments. Additionally, at
different progression points of the film, Ward portrays times where Annie the embodiment of evil is a
help to Chris, and times where Chris the embodiment of good begins to succumb to the despair of evil.
Through this cinematic crossover, Ward creates the idea that there are times of good and evil in
everyone, rather than an undefiled superiority and distance of one from the other. Finally, there is the
cinematic urgency and dedication shown through Chris as he refuses to give up on finding and saving
Annie. This endurance eventually results in both Chris and Annie making it to Heaven, despite Annie
having committed suicide. Once there, Annie s appearance is changed, again through this use of
cinematic technique, conveying that rather than turning Chris to the darker side from seeking out a
sinner, Annie was instead turned to the side of good.

Jewish Massacre In Russian Pogroms
In 1881 a Jewish massacre occurred in Russia known as the pogroms, which is an organized massacre
of a culture group. The start of the pogroms was after Tsar Alexander II, the ruler of Russia, was killed
in 1881 and it was suspected that the murderer was a Jewish man. (Antin 72) For Russia to get back,
they placed all the blame on the Jewish people and the only way to get revenge was to kill each and
every person who identified with the Jewish religion. In this paper my goal is to explain what the
pogroms are, the major events that occurred in this time period, and what was learned from this time
in history. As Karl Max said, History repeats itself, first as a tragedy, second as a farce. The Jewish
populations in Russian society were always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Doyle Pogroms of 1881) The plan to solve this issue was to use propaganda showing how bad the
Jews were and why they needed to be eliminated. The government s use of propaganda backfired as
violence arose. One example of this, is in Yelizavetgrad City. The rioting became so out of control that
the army had to get involved to break up the fighting. (Doyle Pogroms of 1881) While, the Russians
believed that using military force would stop the people and calm them down just the opposite had
occurred. People began becoming more violent and more people joined in the rioting. This was seen
ten days later in the city of Kiev, an attack that lasted for over three years. (Modern Jewish History) In
this three year time span over 250 attacks occurred around Russia and the citizens of Russia followed
the government s lead as they were adjusting to their new government. (Parkansky 32) To revenge his
brother s death Tsar Alexander III decided to pass harsher laws on the Jews. This is when he passed
the May Laws in 1882. The May Laws took almost all rights away from the Jewish people. Some of
the laws were that only ten percent of Jewish students could attend college, Jews could not trade on
Sundays, and they also had to move away from their local villages and towns. (Joyce 19th Century
Russian Pogroms) The overall plan Alexander III had failed as over two million Jews left Russia to go
to America and the two thirds of the population that stayed in Russia were very influential to taking

Persuasive Essay On Freedom Of Religion
The First Amendment of the Constitution states the freedoms that citizens of the United States are
entitled to. This includes freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. I believe that
freedom of religion is one of the most important rights that US citizens have. It is a political principle
that forbids the government to restrict people s choices of beliefs. There are currently two clauses in
the Constitution that the government must follow regarding religion. The Establishment Clause states
that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. The Free Exercise Clause
prohibits the restriction of citizens freedom to worship or not worship as they please. Engel v. Vitale

I believe that having the freedom of religion is essential to the United States because of the growing,
diverse population. Immigrants from all over the world that practice their own religion have the right
to come to the US and worship who and what they want. The United States is known as the melting
pot , which means its population includes many diverse races as well as religions. Because the
government is restricted from dictating an individual s religion, rituals, and beliefs, the US can truly
become a free nation.
Tom Cotton is a Republican who serves the current United States Senator for the state of Arkansas. He

2005 2009 and was in reserve from 2010 2013. With the many issues and policies that have been
controversies for a while, Tom Cotton has made it known where he stands. Regarding abortion, Cotton
has stated his is pro life. We must re establish a culture of life in America that reflects the value of
every life from conception through birth, life, and death. I am pro life and I will always vote that way
in Congress, says Cotton . He has received many endorsements including that of The Madison Project,

Advantages Of Prestressed Concrete
1. Prestressed concrete is a combination of high strength concrete and steel which can readily be used
in prefabricated structures.
Prestressed concrete is a procedure where the loadbearing strength of concrete is increased
significantly. Basically, it is a concrete in which suitable internal stresses of suitable magnitude and
distribution are introduced so that the stresses caused from the external loads are neutralized to an
anticipated degree. The benefit of prestressed concrete is that it can be used for construction of large
spans (more than 30m) with slender members, even on encountering with heavy loads. As enhanced
materials (controlled concrete and high tension steel) are being used, the modulus of elasticity is
higher and ultimate creep strain is smaller resulting in the reduction of cross section of the structural
components. Due to smaller dimensions, there is reduction in loads causing smaller deflections and
lead to saving cost in the supporting members and foundations.
Further, the pre stressing technique has eradicated the weakness of concrete in tension obtaining crack
free members of structure wherein the tensile zones are minimized and cracks are limited under
permanent loads increasing the structural durability consequently. To cite an example, in a
prefabricated concrete slab on the steel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Jean Jacques Rousseau s Accomplishments
This person is Jean Jacques Rousseau. He is a famous philosopher, composer, and writer from the time
period called the Age of Reason or the Enlightenment. He influenced many later philosophers and
educators such as Maria Montessori and Jacques Derrida. Most of Rousseau s accomplishments were
novels. The most famous novel Rousseau wrote was called Julie, Ou la Nouvelle Heloise . This novel
was 800 pages and was a romantic novel about a Swiss women. This novel was very important
because it sparked a revolution of romantic books for the future. The reason that it was so influential
was that in this time period not many books were fiction and much less romance. When people
enjoyed this novel they got inspired and wrote their own. Rousseau also wrote many books about
society, one of these books was called Emile, or on Education . It was about education should be and
how an individual should be in a society. Who were this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had a huge challenge when he was kicked out of France. He was kicked out because of his political
writings. These writings disagreed with both the church and the government in France. Rousseau
overcame this challenge by disguising himself to get into the country. He sold his books by putting
different cover pages on the books. His accomplishments happened throughout the later part of the
1700 s. It happened because he wrote a lot of novels and books. These books were either very
informative or very entertaining. Important people like Prince de Conti helped promote his books
throughout the years. I think Rousseau is considered an important historical figure because of his work
with books. Also because of his influence to later philosophers. Some of the influence that he had was
on politics and how he thought about the world. He also made the genre romance popular. Overall I
think that Rousseau is an important historical figure because he changed the world and how we see

The Importance Of Natural Disaster Reduction
Natural Disaster Reduction is a serious topic all countries should be discussing. A study in 2015
recorded around 7,000 natural disasters worldwide, which claimed 1.35 million lives. Natural disasters
could be earthquakes, flooding, volcanic eruption, landslide, and hurricanes. The policy objective of
anticipating and reducing risk is called disaster risk reduction (DRR). Natural disasters can take lives
and also take the homes of many people. The loss of property can be very detrimental to some people.
Also hurricanes or flooding can destroy food supply and crops. Over 173 countries are affected by
natural disasters. Some of the countries most affected by natural disasters are Costa Rica, Japan, Fiji,
Philippines, and Haiti. This affects all countries big and small when disaster strikes a country it can
affect the functionality of its community. When natural disasters hits a country the aftermath can cause
huge devastation and cost a lot of money. Scientists recorded that three quarters of economic losses is
caused by natural disasters. The US spent $100 billion per year in the last decade on the aftermath of
natural disasters. The hurricane season in the Caribbean consists of heavy rains, which may cause
flash floods and landslides. Cuba is also located on an active earthquake zone which can also be a
huge problem. Some of the most recent hurricanes to hit Cuba were Matthew in 2016 and Irma in
2017. The UN is greatly involved in the topic of natural risk reduction

Smith s Animal Works Of Art From Broken Electronics And...
A number of modern day artists are transforming common, everyday trash into notable works of art.
Sayaka Ganz hopes to reduce waste through creative use of discarded objects. Paul Villinski collects
discarded beer cans from New York streets and transforms them into cross cultural symbols of rebirth.
Ann P. Smith creates animal works of art from broken electronics and machine parts. However, the
concept that lies behind all these artists work is nothing new. Jesus has been practicing the exact same
kind of artistry for thousands of years.
During one of his Sabbath day synagogue visits, the Pharisees confronted Jesus with a man with a
withered hand and challenged him about whether it was acceptable to heal such a man on the Sabbath.
For Jesus the answer was painfully obvious:
He said to them, Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take
hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on
the Sabbath. Then he said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And the man stretched it out, and it was
restored, healthy like the other. Matthew 12:11 12
Like a modern day upcycling artist, Jesus restored this man s useless, withered hand to make it
productive and healthy. However, such healings are only one form of Jesus artistic work. While the
events concerning this crippled man are recorded by Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Matthew connects
them with Old Testament prophecies concerning the

The stonehenge was a tone structure established a long time ago by civilization before the druid age.
More than 4,000 years ago, the people of the Neolithic period supposedly decided to build a massive
monument using Earth, timber and eventually stones. They placed it high on salisbury plain in
Wiltshire, england about 37 kilometers southwest of london. THe purpose to build the stonehenge is
still to remain a mystery no one till this day knows why this was built and who built it. The blue
stones found on this monument are a mix of a good, bad and medium rock. There are a few ancient
structures in the world that captivate the imagination and the critical mind of both the scholarly and
ordinary individual as Stonehenge. The oldest part of the stonehenge was constructed Ca. 3100 BCE.
In 1963, British astronomer Gerald Hawkins published an article in Nature, followed by a book,
Stonehenge Decoded, and proposed a hypothesis for at least one purpose of this ancient monument.
Standing in the center of Stonehenge, Hawkins recognized twenty four lines of sight amongst the
stones, and later discovered that these lines pointed to significant astronomical

New England, Middle, And Southern Colonies
There were many different early American colonies. The settlers in these colonies came from many
different places such as; England, France, Spain, and The Netherlands. Also, the settlers in these
colonies settled for many different reasons. The New England, Middle, and Southern colonies
developed a different way of life because of differences in aspects of life such as; government,
religion, and geography.
To begin, the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies developed a different way of life because
of differences in aspects of life such as government. A quote from the document Should Government
be based on religion? (document b) is, Why government should be based on religion (...) authority
from God. This quote is from founder of one of the New England colonies and he is saying that the
New England colonies have religion based on god because god is giving them authority to do
everything. Another quote to support this claim from the textbook History Alive on page 55 is, Middle
colony(...) government: self governing. This quote is showing that in the middle colonies they had a
self governing government or the government was based off the people and less off of a god leading
them. These two quotes tie back to the claim because it shows how the government was different from
the Middle colonies (based off the people) to the New England colonies (based off religion). Also, the
way a place is ran will cause the people to act and do things differently, overall

Human Health Care System Is On The Brink Of Collapse
The Philippines has provided the world with skilled medical professionals for decades. But as more
and more workers abandon the Philippines for higher salaries abroad, public health experts say the
country s health care system is on the brink of collapse. Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan
This above quote is from a former Philippine health secretary commented about the brain drain crisis
regarding the health professionals, occurring right now in the Philippines. The phenomenon known as
the brain drain is the emigration of skilled, intelligent and highly skilled personnel from a country. The
Philippines have been exporting medical professionals since the early 1960 s and this has been an
issue ever since. Due to increase in migration of nurses and doctors, the Philippines medical
development has stalled for many years and one can even state that their medical quality has dropped
dramatically. (Philippine Medical Brain Drain) It is important to note that the government is
responsible for the brain drain of medical professionals in the Philippines and they have failed to
improve the living quality and payment of these medics. As a result of this, these doctors and nurses
chose to move to a more developed country for better living condition and better pay. Even though the
Philippines are gaining profit from brain drain of these medical professionals, the negatives of this
crisis covers up the positives. Furthermore, evidence has shown that the brain drain is more harmful

Five Pillars Of Islam And Islam
Five Pillars of Islam All great things are built on a solid and strong foundation. The religion of Islam
is no different. The foundation on which Islam was built is known as The Five Pillars of Islam. These
are the essential duties that are required of all Muslims. The pillars are the shahadah (declaration of
faith), salah (establishment of the five ritual prayers), zakah (almsgiving), sawm (fasting the month of
Ramadan), and hajj (pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca). These five pillars are in the central
religious text of Islam, the Qur an, and are presented as the framework for worship and a sign of
commitment to faith (Esposito, Pillars of Islam ). The pillars are often compared to a creed such as
those seen in Christianity. While the two are similar in regards to the first pillar, they differ in that the
five pillars of Islam are acts or practices that Muslims must perform while a creed, as defined by
Merriam Webster dictionary, is a brief authoritative formula of religious belief. Shahadah, salah,
zakah, sawm, and hajj are the five obligations all Muslims have to satisfy to live a respectable life
according to Islam. They are the framework and foundation of a Muslim s life. The first pillar,
shahadah, is the declaration of faith. La ilaha illa Allah wa Muhammad rasul Allah . This translates to
There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah. This is the shahadah. All faithful

What Is The Portrayal Of Women In Entertainment
Today s society has set no barriers whatsoever on the wrongful ideologies engrained in the people. In
the United States, the entertainment industry sends messages of excessive masculinity, degrading
women in a variety of ways as well as portraying homosexuality to our children. We have seen these
undignifying trends along with others slowly grow since the post World War 2 era. On top of this,
there has been no accountability set in place to the select people responsible for such demeaning
messages being sent through mediums like movies, television and magazines. The child, men and
women demographic in American entertainment has created a rift between what is known to be
acceptable and what simply crosses the line among the consumers of our society. We see the horrible
effects of the portrayal of women in entertainment in the way that they are castrated from having a
significantly imposing presence in society. According to Miss Representation, More than 70% of
women on TV are in their 20s and 30s... A male dominant system values women as child bearers so it
limits their value to the time that they are sexually and reproductively active and they become much
less valuable after that . In other words, as soon as women go past their physical peak of their
lifetimes, the majority of them are seen as washed up and not worth shining the light to. The further
disproportion of women in society in comparison to men is demonstrated in the diminishing manner
that women are

It has some of the outstanding neighborhood in America. It seems to be a good vacation spot, well it would surprise people to know that South Carolina was once a place where some settlers were trying to settle on the land, but a couple of things kept the settlers from settling on the rich land. Clay is a type of soil that does not help plants grow or can grow plant, loam is like clay but with sand and silt, but silt is like a fertilizer that helps plants grow .The diversity of the lands soil made it difficult for the settlers to identify the type of soil like clay, loam, and marl. The lands of savannah was also cleared by indians and did not produce any trees. The land they wanted to settle on was filled with dangerous creatures of nature. These creatures include Panthers, Tigers, wolves, and other dangerous animals, which in a cause of this became dangerous at night, and day. There was another reason South Carolina was hard to settle on, it s because to diseases. Diseases like the small poxs were what damaged the population and reduced it to not that much people. Then the settlers decided to settle in South carolina, they were mat with a violent kind of small pox rages in Charles Town. The Indus Valley Civilization The Indus valley civilizations was an intriguing and sophisticated ancient culture and also a major contributor in the development of what later came to be known as Hinduism . The civilization was founded accidentally in the 19th century when the British engineers were searching for ballast for a railway line in north western India (which is now modern day Pakistan) and found the remains of what seemed to be an ancient city which was only known only to locals until then. In the early 20th century, when other similar sites were uncovered, archaeologists realized the significance of the discovery, which turned out to be one of the most prospering civilizations of the ancient world. It is called The Indus Valley Civilization because most of its settlements are situated along the banks of the Indus River .The largest and most important of this civilization were its two prospering cities known as Mohenjo Daro and Harappa. These names are of post Indus origin as they were given with reference to the towns built much later on the ruins of these ancient cities. During their prosperous period,, Mohenjo Daro and Harappa had a population of around 40 50 thousand, which was a lot by ancient standards. Both of these cities were highly organized and strategically planned, and displayed remarkably similar features during their excavation. The signs and symptoms that are linked to dementia can be understood in three stages. There are the early stages, middle stages, and late stages. Surely if the broad scope of each tapestry is conceived and developed with the same material interlaced throughout, the end result will be similar. However, the tiny threads of difference woven amongst those similar strands can result in one tapestry quite altered from the other. An example of this can be found in comparing the film What Dreams May Come, directed by Vincent Ward, to Dante Alighieri s book The Inferno, upon which it is based. The film follows Chris Nielsen as he searches Heaven and Hell for his lost wife, just as Dante searched for his love in The Inferno. While the fibers of similarity look alike in this book and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the film, Chris and Annie and their fates are the embodiment of good and evil. Despite these oppositional forces, Ward shows that similarities exist as well. For example, multiple times throughout the film they each wore blue. This color symbolizes peace, and even though both characters went through very challenging trials, they were still able to find joy in the little moments. Additionally, at different progression points of the film, Ward portrays times where Annie the embodiment of evil is a help to Chris, and times where Chris the embodiment of good begins to succumb to the despair of evil. Through this cinematic crossover, Ward creates the idea that there are times of good and evil in everyone, rather than an undefiled superiority and distance of one from the other. Finally, there is the cinematic urgency and dedication shown through Chris as he refuses to give up on finding and saving Annie. This endurance eventually results in both Chris and Annie making it to Heaven, despite Annie having committed suicide. Once there, Annie s appearance is changed, again through this use of cinematic technique, conveying that rather than turning Chris to the darker side from seeking out a sinner, Annie was instead turned to the side of good. ... • 24. Advantages Of Prestressed Concrete 1. Prestressed concrete is a combination of high strength concrete and steel which can readily be used in prefabricated structures. Prestressed concrete is a procedure where the loadbearing strength of concrete is increased significantly. Basically, it is a concrete in which suitable internal stresses of suitable magnitude and distribution are introduced so that the stresses caused from the external loads are neutralized to an anticipated degree. The benefit of prestressed concrete is that it can be used for construction of large spans (more than 30m) with slender members, even on encountering with heavy loads. As enhanced materials (controlled concrete and high tension steel) are being used, the modulus of elasticity is higher and ultimate creep strain is smaller resulting in the reduction of cross section of the structural components. Due to smaller dimensions, there is reduction in loads causing smaller deflections and lead to saving cost in the supporting members and foundations. Further, the pre stressing technique has eradicated the weakness of concrete in tension obtaining crack free members of structure wherein the tensile zones are minimized and cracks are limited under permanent loads increasing the structural durability consequently. Jesus has been practicing the exact same kind of artistry for thousands of years. During one of his Sabbath day synagogue visits, the Pharisees confronted Jesus with a man with a withered hand and challenged him about whether it was acceptable to heal such a man on the Sabbath. For Jesus the answer was painfully obvious: He said to them, Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? Also, the settlers in these colonies settled for many different reasons. The New England, Middle, and Southern colonies developed a different way of life because of differences in aspects of life such as; government, religion, and geography. To begin, the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies developed a different way of life because of differences in aspects of life such as government. A quote from the document Should Government be based on religion? (document b) is, Why government should be based on religion (...) authority from God. This quote is from founder of one of the New England colonies and he is saying that the New England colonies have religion based on god because god is giving them authority to do everything. Another quote to support this claim from the textbook History Alive on page 55 is, Middle colony(...) government: self governing. This quote is showing that in the middle colonies they had a self governing government or the government was based off the people and less off of a god leading them. These two quotes tie back to the claim because it shows how the government was different from the Middle colonies (based off the people) to the New England colonies (based off religion). Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan This above quote is from a former Philippine health secretary commented about the brain drain crisis regarding the health professionals, occurring right now in the Philippines. The phenomenon known as the brain drain is the emigration of skilled, intelligent and highly skilled personnel from a country. The Philippines have been exporting medical professionals since the early 1960 s and this has been an issue ever since. Due to increase in migration of nurses and doctors, the Philippines medical development has stalled for many years and one can even state that their medical quality has dropped dramatically. (Philippine Medical Brain Drain) It is important to note that the government is responsible for the brain drain of medical professionals in the Philippines and they have failed to improve the living quality and payment of these medics. As a result of this, these doctors and nurses chose to move to a more developed country for better living condition and better pay. Even though the Philippines are gaining profit from brain drain of these medical professionals, the negatives of this crisis covers up the positives. Furthermore, evidence has shown that the brain drain is more harmful than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Five Pillars Of Islam And Islam Five Pillars of Islam All great things are built on a solid and strong foundation. The religion of Islam is no different. The foundation on which Islam was built is known as The Five Pillars of Islam. These are the essential duties that are required of all Muslims. The pillars are the shahadah (declaration of faith), salah (establishment of the five ritual prayers), zakah (almsgiving), sawm (fasting the month of Ramadan), and hajj (pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca). These five pillars are in the central religious text of Islam, the Qur an, and are presented as the framework for worship and a sign of commitment to faith (Esposito, Pillars of Islam ). The pillars are often compared to a creed such as those seen in Christianity. While the two are similar in regards to the first pillar, they differ in that the five pillars of Islam are acts or practices that Muslims must perform while a creed, as defined by Merriam Webster dictionary, is a brief authoritative formula of religious belief. Shahadah, salah, zakah, sawm, and hajj are the five obligations all Muslims have to satisfy to live a respectable life according to Islam. They are the framework and foundation of a Muslim s life. • 34. Essay on Joe Sacco Joe Sacco s job isn t to write funny cartoons that belong in the Sunday morning paper. His works also aren t average articles packed with nothing but boring statistics. Sacco may be a journalist, but there s much more to him than his notepad and pen; he s a traveler, an artist, and someone who thinks making a difference in the world is important by putting people s stories out there. According to his Wikipedia page, Sacco had a hard time finding a job with hard hitting, attention grabbing pieces that would affect his audience. So instead of working a job where he wasn t interested in what he was writing about, he decided that trying to make a career out of his passion for cartooning was worth the effort. Combining these two hobbies of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simply by drawing a frown or worried expression, he translates the anxiety and feelings from this woman to his readers. I couldn t help but wonder about the woman and her child throughout the comic, and by the ending I was so engaged that I felt like I was there, standing in the middle of the gravel road with Sacco looking for her. Illustrating the story of the citizens of Gaza lets those of us who cannot experience what they are going through empathize them, and at the same time we are being educated on wars like these that we do not experience in everyday life. Sacco had all the control in his hands while creating this comic, so he was able to choose how his audience perceived it. While reading a story, each of us creates our own perception of how it may play out in real life. Instead of leaving us to do this, he gives you the pictures and the story line at once, satisfying your mind s needs, letting you focus on the story line. He used visuals like the careless army general nonchalantly smoking a cigarette, explaining how they don t just randomly destroy homes (152), while Sacco was able to show how much destruction they actually did do. After much thought and consideration, I decided to focus my controlling purpose on the mindset of Sacco as he published this comic, and how he thought his audience would react to it. Not only does he speak about how this conflict greatly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. What Is The Portrayal Of Women In Entertainment Today s society has set no barriers whatsoever on the wrongful ideologies engrained in the people. In the United States, the entertainment industry sends messages of excessive masculinity, degrading women in a variety of ways as well as portraying homosexuality to our children. We have seen these undignifying trends along with others slowly grow since the post World War 2 era. On top of this, there has been no accountability set in place to the select people responsible for such demeaning messages being sent through mediums like movies, television and magazines. The child, men and women demographic in American entertainment has created a rift between what is known to be acceptable and what simply crosses the line among the consumers of our society. We see the horrible effects of the portrayal of women in entertainment in the way that they are castrated from having a significantly imposing presence in society. According to Miss Representation, More than 70% of women on TV are in their 20s and 30s... A male dominant system values women as child bearers so it limits their value to the time that they are sexually and reproductively active and they become much less valuable after that . In other words, as soon as women go past their physical peak of their lifetimes, the majority of them are seen as washed up and not worth shining the light to. The further disproportion of women in society in comparison to men is demonstrated in the diminishing manner that women are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
