The Use Of Gunpowder And Firearms Triggered The Decline Of...
Military speaking, it is often stated that the introducing of gunpowder and firearms triggered the
decline of chivalry. Richard Kaeuper, on the contrary, explains that this improved military technology
may be too abrupt, for who would not be reluctant to sign a specific, dated death warrant to mark the
end of [chivalry, which is] so persistent and so complex. 1 Moreover, it is not the first time that
knights had to adapt to new military techniques. For instance, during the Hundred Year War (1337
1453) that opposed the French and English kingdoms, French knights were slaughtered by English
crossbowmen during the battle of Agincourt in 1415. The French traditional model of the knight
fighting with his sword was no longer sufficient to win a battle. Even before that, the English took on
the chevauchée, a tactic based on raids to rampage the countryside and thus burn the villages and
crops to prevent troops food supplies and also demoralizing the population. In response to that, the
French used a similar technique of deployment of a small troop for precised raids. So, seeing knights
military contribution as something constant and unchanging is incorrect. Consequently, knights could
perfectly make use of gunpowder or still be valuable as leaders of troops, especially since Charny
already valued knights who are entrusted with the command of men at arms to lead them in combat as
captains, constables, and marshals or in other offices concerned with the direction of the

The Discourse of On Reserve Housing
The substance of this paper will be to discuss the discourse regarding the inequalities facing aboriginal
peoples living on reserves in the northwestern corner of Ontario. Inequality is not naturally occurring;
poverty is not an innate cultural trait that accumulates at the feet of the marginalized (Schick St.Denis,
2005, p.304). Stephens, Nettleton and Porter stated in the Lancet (2005) Aboriginal people in Canada

Access to the communities is provided year round by Wasaya Airline and airstrips that are maintained
by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Of course, each Aboriginal community is unique with its
own set of traditions and ways of healing but my observation after working within the communities
for over ten years is that they all suffer from improperished conditions and substandard housing. The
local economies are primarily based upon government services (Indian and Northern Affairs) (INAC)
and small business. Most of the reserves have six hundred people or less, and each community has a
nursing station. The nursing stations are well maintained functional buildings built in or about the
early 1960 s and are maintained by Health Canada. First Nations and Inuit Health (FNIH) maintains
responsibility for primary care services in the majority of the northwest Ontario reserve communities.
In the north, nurses are the primary care givers working in an extended scope of practice, and client
care is centrally coordinated by nurses working within interdisciplinary teams. The majority of the
nursing and medical staff working for FNIH in the Sioux Lookout zone are Caucasian and do not
come from local communities. This could outwardly appear as a reinforcement of power relations in
the racial identities. There is only very limited cultural training given to employees when they are
employed by FNIH. Medical advice and

Contrasting with this bleak representation is Octavia E. Butler s Parable of the Sower. Parable centers
around a multi faceted, strong female lead named Lauren who shows herself to be a caring and
capable leader throughout the novel. Lauren shows both intelligence and an inclination for leadership.
Among her neighbors, Lauren is considered smart and industrious (Butler, 24). Lauren is proactive
and plans for the future she discusses her plans with Joanne and tells her, We can get ready. That s
what we ve got to do now. Get ready for what s going to happen, get ready to survive it, get ready to

(Butler. 57). Despite the judgement she receives from others, Lauren remains determined in what she
believes is the correct path. She also tries to help her community by encouraging others to start
emergency packs, like herself. She shows further inner strength as she preaches a sermon on
perseverance to encourage and strengthen the community following the disappearance and presumed
death of her father. Lauren continues to show this strength as The people I ve grown up with are

HOPE Program Agency Case Study
HOPE Program Agency: Promoting Inclusion
The HOPE program is an agency, which firmly believes in the power of inclusion. Alongside
inclusion, the HOPE program provides other services that will help children with developmental
delays. The program offered through the San Diego Office of Education located at 6401 Linda Vista
Road in San Diego, California 92111. The mission statement and philosophy is built around Carl
Dunst s theory on enabling and empowering families. The HOPE program also believes in helping the
families, and the staff work with them, collaborating. They believe in reciprocal relationships, and that
relationships are the foundation for all learning. The program also supports the family in their beliefs,
values, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also family support services such as parent to parent support, parent education, and
information and parent support groups. All these services and support remind me of Erikson s first
stage of trust versus mistrust. I think HOPE tries to establish trust for the children by making sure their
basic needs are met and that they are being cared for. The support provided by HOPE to the
caregivers, in my opinion, help facilitate bonds of trust to form. Having a child with developmental
delays may be challenging to caregivers, therefore maybe making it hard to form bonds between child
and parent. Having the support from HOPE, may alleviate that stress, building a stronger sense of trust
between the caregivers and child. I also believes this fosters the importance of the reciprocal
relationship because once the trust has been built; the child will have increased confidence in what the
caregiver expects. I loved learning just how many services are offered through this program, they
believe in helping families and offering them the support they need to help their child grow. As a
microsystem, HOPE offers opportunities for children to interact with other peers in school settings.
The mesosystem, as exemplified by the link between schools and families, can empower families to
share the responsibility for creating a safe school environment (Berns, 2016, p. 225). Through HOPE,

Similarities and Differences Found Within the Book...
Buried treasure, eye patches, and walking the plank are all words and phrases that often appear in
stories involving pirates. Tales about the voyages of pirates are often adventurous and riveting ones. It
is very awe inspiring to think about the daring lives those pirates once led. However, it might not be
safe to assume that these stories are close to the truth or even based on genuine facts. In 1881 Robert
Louis Stevenson wrote a book entitled Treasure Island, which in return would forever change the way
people looked at the term pirate. Due to this book there are several different movies that have been
created to interpret the term pirate in different ways. Black Pirate, The Dancing Pirate, Sea Hawk, and
Captain Blood include some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important feature about the movie Sea Hawk is that pirates were for doing what the pirates
thought was right. These pirates could almost be thought of as gentlemen. These men were out
fighting for their country and for a just cause, not out to steal someone else s ideas or positions, it
seems. This is because these pirates were fighting a naval war against Spain for the benefit of the
British. For these pirates this was considered an act of piracy for a just cause. The pirates in the movie
Sea Hawk were considered to be the heroes which is a major movement away from the standard evil,
rival, or self serving character the pirates normally represent in other movies of books. There was a
point to their piracy, which was to defeat the British. Even though these pirates still enjoyed the
rewards of their actions, they did it not for the fame of fortune but more for the physical rewards.
These pirates were doing something much different then the normal pirate might do and it is that they
were doing what they were doing in the name of their county and in Spain there were considered
patriots by their fellow countrymen.
Now, the film Sea Hawk can be quite deceiving unless you look at the somewhat hidden meaning
behind these pirates. In the back of all of these pirates minds, they were doing everything to supply
their own self fish needs and wishes. The pirates portrayed in the movie placed themselves on the side
where they

Westport Home Profile Essay
ABC s new sitcom American Housewife claims Westport, Connecticut is a town where every idiot has
a boat and a labradoodle. Indeed, Westport s defining characteristic is its extravagant wealth. New
York City is only 45 minutes away by train, making Westport a popular location for adults working in
financial or law firms to raise their families. The coastal town offers beaches and boating on the Long
Island Sound and a phenomenal public school system. In addition to funding the excellent public
school system, Westport s wealth creates a beautiful look for the town. Census Tract 503 is in the
sylvan area of Westport. My house sticks out from the large, renovated colonial houses that scatter the
tree filled landscape. It is a small, two story, white Cape Cod that has not been added to since my great
great grandfather built it in the early 1900s. The five houses that surround my own were all originally
built by my great great grandfather as well, but homeowners have since added or extended floors. My
house is dwarfed by those of my neighbors and the rest of Westport. The distribution of wealth is
nearly uniform across the town, and large house size is consequentially consistent across different
neighborhoods. Neighborhoods closer to the beach like Saugatuck Island and Saugatuck Shores lack
heavy tree cover, but houses are also large and colonial, often constructed of wood or stone. Westport
s lavish architecture also reflects its ornate culture. Among adults, large dinner

Diversity Of A New Rocket Ship
The topic of diversity is an ever growing discussion to encourage inclusion of different people,
cultures, and backgrounds into the global marketplace. In my issue paper, I will explore the idea of
diversity, its benefits, and how it can be included within key sectors of the business world. Diversity is
an important factor to the business place that allows employees and customers to interact with
companies that value their background as an essential part of their business plan company culture.
There are a myriad of benefits that diversity brings can bring to a company but most of my readings
reflected on three main ideas of driving innovation, bettering recruitment, and capturing the global
market. Diversity of race, gender, and social view can increase innovation and creativity. How does
diversity do this? When different people are brought together to complete a task or solve a problem,
they are bringing different information, perspective, and opinions. The need for diversity of expertise
is obvious: the building of a new rocket ship requires the expertise of designers, engineers, and quality
control experts. But informational diversity brings unique dimensions and experiences to thinking
through a task. Oftentimes being with those that are similar to us can lead us to think that we hold the
same details and information or share the same perspective, which hinders creativity and innovation.
Being in diverse groups can lead us to asking more questions and more

The Picture Of Dorian Gray Analysis
In the Victorian prose, The Portrait of Dorian Gray explores the idea of duality. The divided self
within the character of Dorian Gray begins with his misunderstanding of his self image, because of the
influence of a portrait. Dorian s fate and transformation connect to the painting, which leads to his
downfall. The painting contains Dorian s moral decline as changes to the picture affects his life.
Through the portrait, he gains an image of himself as an independent individual compared to his
previous characteristics where he followed traditional Victorian standards. The sinful actions of
Dorian Gray demonstrate duality, because of the self image he gains from a portrait allowing him to
live morally free until he redeems himself by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Motivation for Divided Self The motivation for the duality of self in The Portrait of Dorian Gray is the
image of Dorian. The said image in the painting becomes influential to his transformation. The portrait
molds Dorian as each character influences his self identification and destruction. The role of Lord
Henry, for instance, is to establish negative connections to the self image Dorian gains from the
portrait. Inspired by Lord Henry s theories of hedonism and sensual pleasure Dorian begins to
misrecognize his identity and alienates himself from society through sin. The idea of self is a false
illusion, however, and Dorian starts to live a life inspired by sensual pleasure. It is not until the deaths
of the siblings James and Sybil Vane that Dorian realizes the falsity of his beliefs and attempts to
destroy the illusion he created. Control over Duality The portrait changes Dorian s views of his self
image, as he seeks control over his duality depicted through James Vane s death. James death shatters
his self absorbed beliefs as Dorian decides to reform himself by becoming a respectable person, only
to end in failure, as the portrait containing his sinful deeds remains unchanged. The brother to Sybil,
James Vane is a protector of his sibling and in revenge for hurting her, he goes after Dorian, only to
result in deception. Later, James Vane comes back to kill Dorian but is accidently shot by a hunter
during a hunting game. The death of James

Biblical Analysis Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein

Biblical Analysis: Frankenstein
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley often refers to the bible on a number of occasions. However, it is worth
noting that many references used by Mary Shelley in Frankenstein can often be identified in Genesis.
Much like Genesis, the story of Frankenstein is a viable creation story. The book of Genesis first
explains the creation of man and woman, and also recounts the fall of humanity. Unlike Genesis,
Frankenstein begins with the fall of humanity, leading into the creation of man. Although it would be
simple to compare the novel to such non religious terms, the religious symbolism cannot be ignored in
Frankenstein. Many biblical references within Frankenstein refer to the creation story in the first book
of Genesis.
Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded
you, You shall not eat of it, cursed is the ground because of you (Genesis 3: 17 19). In the book of
Genesis, Adam and Eve are punished for taking from the tree of knowledge. The event that is
presented in Genesis involving Adam and Eve strongly correlates to the first volume of Frankenstein.
Driven by his mother s death, Frankenstein looks to science in order to combat the death and illness
that surrounds him. His acquisition of this scientifical knowledge leads to the creation of a horrible
being. By creating life, he is able to attain the knowledge and

Age Is The Standard Of Maturity
An individual s self concept is the core of personality. For ordinary people, personality changes with
success and failure in life; but for people with intellectual curiosity, maturity is the real artifact of a
desired personality. Age is no guarantee of maturity. Maturity of mind is the capacity to endure ups
and downs and uncertainty in life. It is an ability to think, speak and act all feelings within the bound
of dignity even in the middle of clear and present danger. It takes long time to bring excellence to
maturity. Youth condemns; maturity condones. When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so
ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty one, I was
astonished at how much the old man had learned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Understand that you are human, you have the worth. Human beings are essentially free and self
willing, and are separable from surrounding cultural, social and political context. You are what you
claim you are at your heart, not what they think you are. You are as is. That you are in your body is
such a unique gift. But you won t have it forever. So, don t complain anything about it, rather use it as
much you can. Know what you take, what you give. Every one of us is made so for purpose. Do not

Hamlet Nihilist Analysis
To be or not to be a nihilist
In 1927, Martin Heidegger observed that nihilism was already the normal state of man that the
disbelief in life having objective meaning is the most prevalent. If Heidegger is correct, then our
current era is one in which Hamlet would fit in well.. Critics have proposed that Hamlet is too much of
a refined intellectual to commit a callous act such a murder, a more plausible claim is his crises of
inaction not caused merely by a quirk of character or spirituality, it is in fact caused by a lack of spirit:
Hamlet is not religious, he is a nihilist. Through his deep pessimism, incessant brooding, and radical
skepticism, Hamlet shows his colors as a nihilist who believes in nothing and has no purpose. When
Hamlet admits that there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so (Shakespeare, II. ii.
254 55), Hamlet displays his lack of belief in even fundamental concepts such as good and evil; he
dismisses them as mere constructs of the mind. Hamlet should be devoutly religious as a man in
Christian Denmark. However, since he has a self professed lack of belief in good and evil, and
therefore, religion and God, action is not possible because Action requires the veils of illusion.
(Nietzsche 35).
Hamlets nihilistic bent rises to the fore when conversing with Rosencrantz and gentle Guildenstern.
During their first discussion they produce a malignant energy that leads them to deep cynicism and a
demeaning of all good and pure ideas

The And Placebo Effect On Human Sciences
Since every object, event and story can be interpreted from multiple perspectives, people gain their
knowledge in a way largely influenced by the perspective. It is difficult to be convinced of any

Body Image In Sirena Riley s The Black Beauty Myth
The author of The Black Beauty Myth Sirena Riley has encountered multiple experiences concerning
body image throughout her life. At a young age, she started to feel the pressure to have a perfect body.
The struggle of making herself perfect ultimately lead to eating disorders. In her journey from a young
age to her college years she has learned better ways to deal with negative body image through therapy.
She states I was in three body image and eating disorder groups with other young women on my
campus. I was always the only black woman (Riley 2002, 229).This quote supports her belief that
black women have body image problems but are not open to seeking help or expressing it. Sirena
points out three factors that influence body image in the lives of women. The first factor she believes
has influence on the body image of black women and young girls is the celebrities shown in the
media. In her essay, she mentions celebrities within black culture that are shown in the media as
beauty ideals. Her examples included actresses, musicians, and models who are thin. There are also
TV shows and ads that are shown to consumers. She gives an example of a show called The Parkers
which follows a woman with a full figured body. The show portrays her as a loud, ghetto woman who
is constantly denied by a black college professor. The man constantly squirms away from her and goes
after women with thin body figures. The second factor that influences body image in black women is

antigenically different virus stereotypes (DENV 1 4), (though there was a report in 2013 that identified
a fifth stereotype) (Guzman Harris, 2015) (Dengue, 2016) (Normile, 2013). It is estimated that there
are 50 million new cases of dengue fever each year worldwide. A portion of these cases can develop
into sever infections, namely dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome, these sever
infections are also associated with increased mortality rates. Approximately 12,000 deaths each year
are contributed to dengue, and of these deaths the victims are mainly children (Bouzid et. al. 2014).
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines global climate change as a large scale change in
climate patterns over the years, which includes changes in rainfall and temperature related greenhouse
effects, where radiation gets trapped beneath the atmosphere. The average global temperature is
predicted to rise 2.0 4.5˚C by the year 2100, which would have significant impact on vector borne
diseases. The temperature range for dengue is between 14 °C and 40 °C. With a 2 °C increase in
temperature the extrinsic incubation period of dengue will be shortened and more infected mosquitoes
will be available for a longer period of time. Mosquitoes will also bite more frequently because of
dehydration and thus further increase man mosquito contact (WHO, 2014)

Essay about The Killers by Ernest Hemingway
The Killers by Ernest Hemingway
The Killers by Ernest Hemingway is a story based upon Hemingway s view of the big city in the late
1920 s. During the era of prohibition whoever controlled the flow of alcohol controlled the city.
Unfortunately, the police were powerless against man thirst for booze. The Mafia also expanded into
the bookie field, and if someone didn t pay up or double crossed the Mafia they were taken out.
Hemingway was unfamiliar with this city scene and we can see a very strong correlation between him
and one of his characters, Nick Adams. Nick was a newcomer to the city, completely unfamiliar with
the boldness of disregard for the law that was present. The Theme that I feel Hemingway is trying to
convey is how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Theme of the story was more or less an actual event that could have taken place in any one of the
major cities in the late 1920 s. When Mobsters ruled and the police where simply a slight annoyance.
The two killers who entered the lunchroom were most likely Mafia hit men. As they leave, with Al
only partially concealing the sawed off shotgun, they further flaunt their disdain for the law (Geimer
1260). This Disdain for the law points to a more powerful organization than a simple murder. Ole s
response also points to a larger, higher power. His response is much like that of the older waiter: he is
resigned not to life but to death. He repeatedly tells Nick Adams that there is nothing for him to do; he
turns his face to the wall (Taube 6). Ole s response also sheds light on the general attitude of the 1920
s, which was to just mind your own business and leave everyone else alone. Even the cook, Sam, told
Nick You better not have anything
to do with it at all (Hemingway, 17). This sets the mobsters influence into perspective, showing us that
the general public was under control of an unwritten, silent government. The reader was led to believe
that the two killers, Max and Al, were Mafia hit men. While Hemingway never says if they were or
weren t, we can see instances where they switched from one to another. After Max and Al enter the
diner they look at the menu to try and find something to eat so as not to look

The Child Of The Wild Child
Susan Wiley, or most commonly known as Genie the Wild Child was born on the 18th of April 1957.
She was the fourth child of Clark and Irene Wiley and was one of two children that survived
childhood. Her parents were married in 1944 Clark was 20 years his wife s senior and their marriage
was riddled with domestic violence. Their first two children were both suspiciously killed before their
first birthday. It was reported that Clark Wiley extremely disliked children and was very mentally
unstable. The third of the Wiley children John lived with Clarks mother Pearl, when she was killed in
a hit and run accident Clark held his son responsible which only added to his fragile mental health.
The final child of the couple was Genie. At a doctor s appointment in late 1958 when Genie was 20
months old the doctor diagnosed her with mild retardation. However, this claim has been debated.
Nevertheless, Genie s sadistic father kept her in extreme isolation locked away in an upstairs bedroom.
The window was covered in aluminium foil and Genie was tightly restrained to a potty chair in near
darkness every day. At night she slept in a tattered sleeping bag tied down in a cot that was enclosed
with chicken wire. Although she would often be left on the potty chair overnight. She was
malnourished and Clark forbid his son and wife to speak to Genie. If she was to make any sound she
was beaten with a wooden plank, and was allegedly sexually abused also. Though no one will ever

A Brief Note On Euro Zone Crisis Significantly Affected...
1. EURO ZONE CRISIS CONSIDERABLY AFFECTED INDIAN LEATHER INDUSTRY
According to says Council for Leather Export, Indian leather exports were registering an appreciable
growth of more than 15% in Dollar Terms during the first seven months of 2014 15, but, eventually
ended with a moderate growth of 9.37% during the fiscal 2014 15, primarily due to the Euro Zone
crisis .
A decline in value of Euro followed by the crisis in Euro Zone is likely to have a negative effect on
India s export to European region, which accounts for around 18% 19% of India s total leather
exports. The exports from key areas like Leather and Gems Jewellery, which holds a major
contribution in India s total exports to the region were said to have witnessed a negative effect in the
initial months of the current fiscal due to the Euro Zone crisis.

The Case Ban On Tobacco Ads And Talks About The Conflict...
This essay is a case study analysis that uses the case Ban on Tobacco Ads and talks about the conflict
of interests between tobacco producers and the Government of India. In Feb 2001 the Government of
India published the news on tabling a bill that bans Tobacco companies on advertising cigarettes and
sponsoring the sports and other cultural events.
(1) There are several arguments that support the Government s decision:
1. Protection of people s health. As World Health Organization states that the 3 million deaths in 1990
occurred as a result of smoking and in 1998 it raised to 4.023 million.
2. Preventing the children aged 14 24 years from being smokers. According to internal document from
R J Reynolds (1998) the bright advertising of the cigarettes that had a camel s picture on the packing
was attractive to children and stimulated teenage smoking.
3. Contributions of cigarettes to the budget of India is 0.14% versus the health costs which account for
0.21%.
4. Provision of employment by the tobacco industry is an illusion because those who will not be
employed in the tobacco field will be employed somewhere else and will be more labor intensive.
5. Complete bans on the tobacco products give a better decrease in tobacco consumption. This is
evident in the investigation of UK s Department of Health (1992) which found out that the banning of
advertising resulted in fall of smoking.
(2) Opposed to the Government there are several arguments from Tobacco companies that

Co-ed versus Same Sex Physical Education Classes
Before title IX girls were not given the same opportunities as boys in physical education classes. They
were not taught to perform skills as advances as boys, so tile IX changed that and made co ed physical
education classes. This gave girls and boys the same opportunities because they were actually
participating together in the same class period. Even though it was a positive thing that girls were
receiving the same attention the boys were receiving, it changed the way that both sexes acted as well
as preformed in their classes for multiple reasons. The opposite sex can have an effect on one another,
which causes more distractions and more attention is seeked from both sexes. Co ed physical

Same sex physical education classes have more advantages because students have a better work ethic,
although if there were no title IX, girls would still be treated unfairly and not receive the attention and
materials they should. Co ed physical education has given girls the equal opportunity they should have
in their classes. They now are taught the same things as well as in the same class as the boys. It is a
positive thing that title IX provided equality but there are also negative aspects that it has brought
along. With having boys and girls in the same class male superiority is being shown a lot more than in
same sex classes (Lirgg 183). For instance, males are usually very athletic and like to show off their
skills in physical education class. This illustrates male superiority because they are the ones usually
controlling the games and may not let the girls participate as mach as the boys. For example, a
Canadian study by Schneider and Coutts (1982) found that coeducational schools were perceived by
students as being more gregarious, group cen tered, friendly, enjoyable, tolerant of noncompliance,
spontaneous, and conducive to self confidence and self respect than were same sex schools (Lirgg

discovered technology to improve life. From primitive stone tools to the invention of the light bulb, to
the creation of self handling vehicles, humanity constantly works to enhance their existence. The
invention of the first genetically modified organism came in 1973, and has been utilized ever since to
advance everything from food to medicine. A genetically modified organism, also known as a GMO,
is an organism whose DNA is combined with different DNA to give the organism desirable qualities.

Monsanto is an American agrochemical corporation which manufactures pesticides and GMO crops.
One of the most well recognized herbicides is Monsanto s Roundup, which contains the carcinogen
glyphosate. To prevent from killing the crops when farmers apply Roundup to their fields, Monsanto
invented GMO versions of many staple crops such as corn, soybeans, and cotton which resist
Roundup. Like the weeds, these GMO crops still absorb glyphosate, however the crops are able to stay
alive through changes in their genetic makeup which make them herbicide resistant. The herbicide
tolerance of certain crops has been adopted because it, simplifies weed control to the use of a single
herbicide and a flexible and easy management strategy (Labrada, 2003), as well as decreasing the cost
of weed control programs. As a result, Monsanto bought out most small farms and now owns 80% of
the U.S. market share of corn and 93% of the U.S. market share of soy, which are then sold to modern
food processing. Upwards of 75% of the processed food on American supermarket shelves contain
genetically engineered ingredients. Not only are Americans consuming massive amounts of GMOs,
which pose a huge health risk themselves, they are also consuming massive amounts of glyphosate, a
chemical known to cause cancer and birth defects (Kruger, 2014). If society stopped consuming
carcinogens, the cancer epidemic will be

The Diverse Social Self-Verification And Self Enhancement
Reaction Paper: The Diverse Social Self and Self Verification and Self Enhancement (PSY 138)
Understanding the foundation of the social self, premise of self verification and self enhancement are
crucial to the development and framework of the human psyche. This response paper will analyze the
basic social self, the way humans perceive their own image and the importance of self verification and
self enhancement (Swann et al., 1989). Once people have a good understanding of the different
aspects in their personalities and self awareness, they can apply positive upward or downward
momentum of self verification and self enhancement to daily activities; this will build self esteem and
can serve as a solid foundation in living a good life.
The Diverse Social Self
The human psyche is diverse in nature. Social psychologists view the three parts that make up the
social self as the individual self, relational self, and collective self (Gilovich et al., 2013). These
categories make up the framework of how humans see themselves as individuals, how they are in
relationships, and how they fit into society. Several important factors in the social self are self esteem
and self worth. The effects of self verification and self enhancement on positive self esteem and
negative vs. positive self worth can be further analyzed by Swann, Pelham, and Krull in their 1989
study.

Opposition To The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was one of the least supported wars in American History. It faced an immense and
inexorable sum of social outcry that, while initially ignored, could not go completely unnoticed and
unacknowledged by the government. While the majority of American citizens supported the war, they
remained silent, most likely to protect themselves from the scrutiny of the minority that opposed the
war. This minority of Americans were opposed to the war for moral reasons. They argued that the war
was not any of the business of the united states and that it would be morally unjust to intervene
because the North Vietnamese were fighting a patriotic war to rid themselves of foreign aggressors.
that Innocent Vietnamese peasants were being killed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amongst these reasons is the ineffectiveness of conventional military tactics, the overabundant loss of
American lives and the loss of both militant and civilian Vietnamese lives, as well as the
insurmountable opposition to the war itself. The most detrimental to the Vietnam War effort, however,
was indisputably the lack of public support for the war. A country can hardly fight a war without the
support of its people, let alone a war that requires an immense amount of resources and manpower. In
addition to this, no prolonged conflict can be maintained by a country without the support of its
people. The Vietnam War involved all of these elements. It was an intense conflict that required an
unprecedented amount of manpower as well as supplies to be maintained. It was also an incredibly
prolonged conflict that produced little to no progression and lacked any definitive goal to be
progressed toward. Due to the powerful opposition supplied by the Anti war Movement, civil leader,
such as Martin Luther King Jr., and the general disdain for the war on behalf of the American public,
especially later in the war, it became a necessity for the American government to retract from
Vietnam. Conclusively, the public opposition to the war was the largest and most impactful cause of
America s withdrawal from the Vietnam War, resulting in

Examples Of Contradictions In A Clockwork Orange
Contradictions or dualities as portrayed in the novella A Clockwork Orange.
Duality is the state of having two parts or aspects (Oxford Dictionary of Current English, 2006:274).
The novel A Clockwork Orange is full of dualities, for an example; good versus evil. In the following
essay, the aim is to explore the concept of contradictions or dualities as portrayed in the novella A
Clockwork Orange.
A Clockwork Orange portrays the concept of good versus evil. It is usual to think of good and evil as
two poles, two opposite directions, the antithesis of one another.... We must begin by doing away with
this convention (Buber: 1938). One has to disagree with Buber, good and evil are two opposite poles
because they both deal with different aspects and values. The conflict amongst good and evil becomes
difficult in A Clockwork Orange, since the novel actually presents the fight between enforced good
and evil that is done voluntary. Alex is a teenager who gets a thrill ... Show more content on

Online Dating And Its Impact On The World
With the advancement of the Internet, we have seen many changes in the dating world. Hundreds of
applications and websites have been created in order to connect people locally and internationally.
Among these websites and applications are online dating tools. Online dating began in 1995 when
Match.com was created, and has grown significantly since. Millennials (the generation born between
the 1980 s and the mid 2000 s) were born into the digital revolution. Growing up, we were more likely
to text to ask for a date, rather than in person, or even over the phone. Now that most Millennials are
teenagers or older, dating apps have become the new norm. With apps like OkCupid, Tinder, Grindr,
and more, traditional dating values have gone out the door to make room for online dating. The thing
our parents knew as courting, rarely exists within the Millennial generation. So, with all these knew
dating tools, the question becomes: Has online dating actually affected how Millennials date?
Literary Review In our research about online dating and the effect it has had on how Millennials date,
we found that there were some common ideas among writers. Because our topic is relatively new,
finding actual journals or research studies were hard. We decided to focus mostly on articles written
for big name websites like Forbes and Time. The first things we decided to look at were the statistics
of online dating. Online dating began in 1995 when Match.com was created. This is during a time

The Revolution And Its Effects On The American Revolution
It is generally agreed upon that the Revolution was guaranteed even foretold since the idea of settling
on it was even suggested no one can give a large group of people the idea to run themselves and still
keep control from thousands of miles away. England had it, but lost that control of their child nation in
1766 when they revoked the Stamp Act and gave the colonists the notion that they had the power and
authority to independently run the budding country. After being allowed this minute freedom, the
colonists were not pleased with Parliament s taxes and attempts of an iron fist hold on the Americas
and along with their opposing views on nearly everything, decided that they were no longer pleased
with being considered British. Salutary neglect also contributed to the colonists inflated sense of pride
aptly named because at this time England neglected the colonies, giving them room for individual
theories, politics, beliefs, and the abilities to run their own lives for a while. The freedom was too
much for them to go back to how things were before when England decided to tighten their grip. At
this time, the colonists started a war to free themselves. Parliamentary taxation was the catalyst to the

While we think of photography as a fairly modern invention, that is simply not true. In fact, there are
documents on the underlying principle behind photography dating back to as early as the Fifth
Century, B.C. The first recorded instance of a photographic image was found in 5th Century China.
During that time, Chinese philosopher and scholar Mo Ti described how light passing through a

The Impact Of Divorce On Children And Adolescents

Abstract
In the following paper, the various consequential effects of divorce upon children and adolescents and
their development will be examined. The main purpose of this review is to determine the effects of the
effects of the growing epidemic of divorce, what is happening to our children when they confront the
reality of divorce, how we can plan for the future where growth is redirected by divorce, and how the
world may prepare for a population where over half of children will experience divorce. No matter the
stage or direction of development, divorce may have an effect on the child s natural path of growth
psychologically. However, with the help of many different studies that range from religious
adjustment, to physical health, to a father s well being in relation with a child s well being, this review
pinpoints the most crucial elements of divorce in the modern day and the subsequent effects upon
children s psychological development.

The Chemistry And Physic Of Either River Or Lake
I would like to phrase the question in another way, which is how would I determine the representative
sample and then accordingly what the constituents to be sampled?. As representative sample would be
the least number of data points required to give way a statistically precise picture of the water body
being analyzed. The chemistry and physic of either river or lake is a function of the substances that
contact with either in flowing or still water and how long been there with their exposure to the
sunlight or wind. The constituents from varied sources that are entering or leaving (river/lake) can be a
function of the hydrology and topography system. Water from sources such as direct/indirect
precipitation, surface runoff from snowmelt, or storm water from exposed rock or packed soil, or
groundwater inflow from the aquifer will react with the soil or bed/sedimentary rock and dissolved
them (as the phenomena knowns weathering condition). Therefore these variable sources can add a
critical deposit into the river or lake (surface water) constituents. For instance, many lakes and rivers
sensitive to acidification due to the acid precipitation/ mine drainage, or to the atmospheric inputs
such as (dust, SO4, NO3, Cl) leaving no time for neutralization before reaching lakes and rivers.
Further, seasonally variation for the snowmelt, dry period, runoff, discharge can be explained by a plot
of chemistry versus time or discharge depending upon the site. Major cations such as H+ from pH

overcome many changes. One character that changes dramatically is the main character, Sophie. At
the beginning of the novel, Sophie is introduced as a sheltered girl, terrified of the outside world.
Sophie experiences many things that influence her to become a young woman that is willing to
sacrifice her safety for the people she loves. She is influenced mostly by the antagonist, Angel. Angel
supports Sophie in ways that make her want to change herself. Sophie changes positively throughout
the story into a strong, fearless person, and Angel s love for her is what makes her capable of that
change. Sophie introduces herself in the story as a nerdy, outcasted teenage girl, I always thought of
myself as a free floating one celled amoeba, minding my own business. The other kids at school were
all parts of a larger organism. . . Not particularly noticed, definitely not appreciated, just an amoeba
swimming around aimlessly (9). Sophie feels as if she does not belong where she grew up, she has
always felt like she was on the outside. Her father, a drug dealer and felon, left her mother when she
was first born. Because of her extreme self esteem issues, Sophie blames herself for her father leaving.
She recalls what she believes happened when she was born, When Mom was a teenager, I started
making her belly fat. And then my dad left. And then I was born too soon. And he came back to get us.

A Simulation System Platform For Designing And Debugging...
In recent years autonomous underwater vehicles have come under the light for their vast applications.
To acquire improvement in autonomous underwater vehicle s (AUV) applications vehicle autonomy,
underwater communications, motion control, dynamics modeling as well as simulation system is
neede3d to be touched. These issues are needed to be resolved through a spiral development process
which is included at sea experimentation. To provide a simulation system platform for designing and
debugging problems of motion controller, a 3 Degree of Freedom (3 DOF) dynamic model for AUV is
examined. Based on a dynamic model controlled by thruster and fin with appendages, a simulation
system is established and motion performance is analyzed. Also an implementation of active
submarine warfare is tested. Signal processing capabilities and adaptive behavior were analyzed via
simulation. The results demonstrate that AUV has good maneuverability with or without appendages.
The implications for underwater surveillance are discussed in both simulation and experimental
context.
Key Words
Autonomous underwater vehicle; Target localization, tracking and on board processing; motion
performance and dynamic modeling; behavior based robotics; simulation system

it. He will take its antlers, and once he places them around your neck, you will belong to him

save herself and the world. The Darkling finally catches Alina and with one quick move Alina will

An Analysis Of Thomas Hardy s Of The D Urbervilles
Thomas Hardy, a Victorian era poet, and novelist who was influenced by Romanticism, mostly known
for his novels. Hardy was a naturalist, and we can see his realistic outlook on life proved in his novels
such as Tess of the D Urbervilles. The novel first published in 1892, and was met with a great deal of
controversy because of the subject matter. Hardy took issue the sexual morals of late Victorian
England and religious skepticism. And it was enough to shock readers and get mixed reviews from
critics. In Tess of the D Urbervilles, we get an idea in Hardy s sight about religion, he uses his
characters to make observations that can be quite discouraging his Victorian readers. The novel tells
the story of young, rural and innocent girl Tess, who discovers that she is from noble and ancient
family. And her whole life changes to too bad after it. More precisely, when she meets with her new
relative Alec and had been seduced by him. She loses her purity and give birth of a baby out of
marriage, which was unacceptable for the unmarried women. She knows that after that nothing can be
as before. However, she meets with another man, but it was too late. And none of them can be happy.
Some people could think that the incidents that occur around the Tess and lead to the death of Alec D.
and her own imprisonment and death are the result of her own deeds, pay for sins, but speaking for
myself and I assume also for Hardy it is not quite so. I

The Civil Injunction Process
The following scenario presents key players in any law enforcement agency, possible dialogs, inter

This temporary restraining order is often also called an exparte restraining order because it is assigned

Homework Is Too Much Homework
Starting in Preschool, students experience the responsibility of completing homework. Whether a
student is memorizing the alphabet, completing multiplication worksheets, writing poems and essays,
or completing pre calculus problems, homework consumes much of their time. As time progress
homework is becoming more of a burden to students. As children become older and life becomes more
hectic, they cannot find enough hours in a day to correctly and fully complete their homework.
Because of this, students can possibly fall behind in school and homework quickly becomes useless.
Students of all ages are assigned too much homework. Homework consumes too much of a student s
like and leaves no time for the more important aspects of life. In the article Too Much Homework
written by Professor Carol Huntsinger, which gives insights from a book called The End of
Homework: How Homework Disrupts Families, Overburdens Children and Limits Learning , written
by Etta Kralovec and John Buell, explains that a student s busy schedule along with immense amounts
of homework takes away from the most important parts of life. In this article, Huntsinger explains
how a student named Josh Preston has a full high school course load, attends meetings, participates in
school activities, and also attends three hour swim practices in the evening. Huntsinger then goes on to
explain that after coming home from practice at 7:30 p.m., Preston has to do almost four hours of
homework which leads to him only

Richard Kaeuper, on the contrary, explains that this improved military technology may be too abrupt, for who would not be reluctant to sign a specific, dated death warrant to mark the end of [chivalry, which is] so persistent and so complex. 1 Moreover, it is not the first time that knights had to adapt to new military techniques. For instance, during the Hundred Year War (1337 1453) that opposed the French and English kingdoms, French knights were slaughtered by English crossbowmen during the battle of Agincourt in 1415. The French traditional model of the knight fighting with his sword was no longer sufficient to win a battle. Even before that, the English took on the chevauchée, a tactic based on raids to rampage the countryside and thus burn the villages and crops to prevent troops food supplies and also demoralizing the population. In response to that, the French used a similar technique of deployment of a small troop for precised raids. So, seeing knights military contribution as something constant and unchanging is incorrect. Consequently, knights could perfectly make use of gunpowder or still be valuable as leaders of troops, especially since Charny already valued knights who are entrusted with the command of men at arms to lead them in combat as captains, constables, and marshals or in other offices concerned with the direction of the ... Of course, each Aboriginal community is unique with its own set of traditions and ways of healing but my observation after working within the communities for over ten years is that they all suffer from improperished conditions and substandard housing. The local economies are primarily based upon government services (Indian and Northern Affairs) (INAC) and small business. Most of the reserves have six hundred people or less, and each community has a nursing station. The nursing stations are well maintained functional buildings built in or about the early 1960 s and are maintained by Health Canada. First Nations and Inuit Health (FNIH) maintains responsibility for primary care services in the majority of the northwest Ontario reserve communities. In the north, nurses are the primary care givers working in an extended scope of practice, and client care is centrally coordinated by nurses working within interdisciplinary teams. The majority of the nursing and medical staff working for FNIH in the Sioux Lookout zone are Caucasian and do not come from local communities. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also family support services such as parent to parent support, parent education, and information and parent support groups. All these services and support remind me of Erikson s first stage of trust versus mistrust. I think HOPE tries to establish trust for the children by making sure their basic needs are met and that they are being cared for. The support provided by HOPE to the caregivers, in my opinion, help facilitate bonds of trust to form. Having a child with developmental delays may be challenging to caregivers, therefore maybe making it hard to form bonds between child and parent. Having the support from HOPE, may alleviate that stress, building a stronger sense of trust between the caregivers and child. I also believes this fosters the importance of the reciprocal relationship because once the trust has been built; the child will have increased confidence in what the caregiver expects. I loved learning just how many services are offered through this program, they believe in helping families and offering them the support they need to help their child grow. As a microsystem, HOPE offers opportunities for children to interact with other peers in school settings. The mesosystem, as exemplified by the link between schools and families, can empower families to share the responsibility for creating a safe school environment (Berns, 2016, p. 225). • 8. Similarities and Differences Found Within the Book... Buried treasure, eye patches, and walking the plank are all words and phrases that often appear in stories involving pirates. Tales about the voyages of pirates are often adventurous and riveting ones. It is very awe inspiring to think about the daring lives those pirates once led. However, it might not be safe to assume that these stories are close to the truth or even based on genuine facts. In 1881 Robert Louis Stevenson wrote a book entitled Treasure Island, which in return would forever change the way people looked at the term pirate. Due to this book there are several different movies that have been created to interpret the term pirate in different ways. Black Pirate, The Dancing Pirate, Sea Hawk, and Captain Blood include some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most important feature about the movie Sea Hawk is that pirates were for doing what the pirates thought was right. These pirates could almost be thought of as gentlemen. These men were out fighting for their country and for a just cause, not out to steal someone else s ideas or positions, it seems. This is because these pirates were fighting a naval war against Spain for the benefit of the British. For these pirates this was considered an act of piracy for a just cause. The pirates in the movie Sea Hawk were considered to be the heroes which is a major movement away from the standard evil, rival, or self serving character the pirates normally represent in other movies of books. There was a point to their piracy, which was to defeat the British. Even though these pirates still enjoyed the rewards of their actions, they did it not for the fame of fortune but more for the physical rewards. These pirates were doing something much different then the normal pirate might do and it is that they were doing what they were doing in the name of their county and in Spain there were considered patriots by their fellow countrymen. Now, the film Sea Hawk can be quite deceiving unless you look at the somewhat hidden meaning behind these pirates. In the back of all of these pirates minds, they were doing everything to supply their own self fish needs and wishes. The pirates portrayed in the movie placed themselves on the side where they ... Indeed, Westport s defining characteristic is its extravagant wealth. New York City is only 45 minutes away by train, making Westport a popular location for adults working in financial or law firms to raise their families. The coastal town offers beaches and boating on the Long Island Sound and a phenomenal public school system. The five houses that surround my own were all originally built by my great great grandfather as well, but homeowners have since added or extended floors. My house is dwarfed by those of my neighbors and the rest of Westport. The distribution of wealth is nearly uniform across the town, and large house size is consequentially consistent across different neighborhoods. Diversity is an important factor to the business place that allows employees and customers to interact with companies that value their background as an essential part of their business plan company culture. There are a myriad of benefits that diversity brings can bring to a company but most of my readings reflected on three main ideas of driving innovation, bettering recruitment, and capturing the global market. Diversity of race, gender, and social view can increase innovation and creativity. How does diversity do this? When different people are brought together to complete a task or solve a problem, they are bringing different information, perspective, and opinions. The need for diversity of expertise is obvious: the building of a new rocket ship requires the expertise of designers, engineers, and quality control experts. But informational diversity brings unique dimensions and experiences to thinking through a task. Oftentimes being with those that are similar to us can lead us to think that we hold the same details and information or share the same perspective, which hinders creativity and innovation. Inspired by Lord Henry s theories of hedonism and sensual pleasure Dorian begins to misrecognize his identity and alienates himself from society through sin. The idea of self is a false illusion, however, and Dorian starts to live a life inspired by sensual pleasure. It is not until the deaths of the siblings James and Sybil Vane that Dorian realizes the falsity of his beliefs and attempts to destroy the illusion he created. • 15. Biblical Analysis Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Alexandria Harris Mrs. Mitchell AP Literature 16 November 2015 Biblical Analysis: Frankenstein Frankenstein by Mary Shelley often refers to the bible on a number of occasions. However, it is worth noting that many references used by Mary Shelley in Frankenstein can often be identified in Genesis. Much like Genesis, the story of Frankenstein is a viable creation story. The book of Genesis first explains the creation of man and woman, and also recounts the fall of humanity. Unlike Genesis, Frankenstein begins with the fall of humanity, leading into the creation of man. Although it would be simple to compare the novel to such non religious terms, the religious symbolism cannot be ignored in Frankenstein. Many biblical references within Frankenstein refer to the creation story in the first book of Genesis. Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, You shall not eat of it, cursed is the ground because of you (Genesis 3: 17 19). In the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve are punished for taking from the tree of knowledge. The event that is presented in Genesis involving Adam and Eve strongly correlates to the first volume of Frankenstein. Driven by his mother s death, Frankenstein looks to science in order to combat the death and illness that surrounds him. Hamlet Nihilist Analysis To be or not to be a nihilist In 1927, Martin Heidegger observed that nihilism was already the normal state of man that the disbelief in life having objective meaning is the most prevalent. If Heidegger is correct, then our current era is one in which Hamlet would fit in well.. Critics have proposed that Hamlet is too much of a refined intellectual to commit a callous act such a murder, a more plausible claim is his crises of inaction not caused merely by a quirk of character or spirituality, it is in fact caused by a lack of spirit: Hamlet is not religious, he is a nihilist. Through his deep pessimism, incessant brooding, and radical skepticism, Hamlet shows his colors as a nihilist who believes in nothing and has no purpose. When Hamlet admits that there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so (Shakespeare, II. ii. 254 55), Hamlet displays his lack of belief in even fundamental concepts such as good and evil; he dismisses them as mere constructs of the mind. Hamlet should be devoutly religious as a man in Christian Denmark. However, since he has a self professed lack of belief in good and evil, and therefore, religion and God, action is not possible because Action requires the veils of illusion. (Nietzsche 35). Dengue has four antigenically different virus stereotypes (DENV 1 4), (though there was a report in 2013 that identified a fifth stereotype) (Guzman Harris, 2015) (Dengue, 2016) (Normile, 2013). It is estimated that there are 50 million new cases of dengue fever each year worldwide. A portion of these cases can develop into sever infections, namely dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome, these sever infections are also associated with increased mortality rates. Approximately 12,000 deaths each year are contributed to dengue, and of these deaths the victims are mainly children (Bouzid et. al. 2014). As they leave, with Al only partially concealing the sawed off shotgun, they further flaunt their disdain for the law (Geimer 1260). This Disdain for the law points to a more powerful organization than a simple murder. Ole s response also points to a larger, higher power. His response is much like that of the older waiter: he is resigned not to life but to death. He repeatedly tells Nick Adams that there is nothing for him to do; he turns his face to the wall (Taube 6). In Feb 2001 the Government of India published the news on tabling a bill that bans Tobacco companies on advertising cigarettes and sponsoring the sports and other cultural events. (1) There are several arguments that support the Government s decision: 1. Protection of people s health. As World Health Organization states that the 3 million deaths in 1990 occurred as a result of smoking and in 1998 it raised to 4.023 million. 2. Preventing the children aged 14 24 years from being smokers. According to internal document from R J Reynolds (1998) the bright advertising of the cigarettes that had a camel s picture on the packing was attractive to children and stimulated teenage smoking. 3. Contributions of cigarettes to the budget of India is 0.14% versus the health costs which account for 0.21%. 4. Provision of employment by the tobacco industry is an illusion because those who will not be employed in the tobacco field will be employed somewhere else and will be more labor intensive. 5. Complete bans on the tobacco products give a better decrease in tobacco consumption. This is evident in the investigation of UK s Department of Health (1992) which found out that the banning of advertising resulted in fall of smoking. They were not taught to perform skills as advances as boys, so tile IX changed that and made co ed physical education classes. This gave girls and boys the same opportunities because they were actually participating together in the same class period. Even though it was a positive thing that girls were receiving the same attention the boys were receiving, it changed the way that both sexes acted as well as preformed in their classes for multiple reasons. Same sex physical education classes have more advantages because students have a better work ethic, although if there were no title IX, girls would still be treated unfairly and not receive the attention and materials they should. Co ed physical education has given girls the equal opportunity they should have in their classes. They now are taught the same things as well as in the same class as the boys. It is a positive thing that title IX provided equality but there are also negative aspects that it has brought along. With having boys and girls in the same class male superiority is being shown a lot more than in same sex classes (Lirgg 183). For instance, males are usually very athletic and like to show off their skills in physical education class. This illustrates male superiority because they are the ones usually controlling the games and may not let the girls participate as mach as the boys. For example, a Canadian study by Schneider and Coutts (1982) found that coeducational schools were perceived by students as being more gregarious, group cen tered, friendly, enjoyable, tolerant of noncompliance, spontaneous, and conducive to self confidence and self respect than were same sex schools (Lirgg 183). This is a positive note because if the students are enjoying themselves and are happy to be in school, they will want to go and work hard. Co ed schools also result in the ... Monsanto is an American agrochemical corporation which manufactures pesticides and GMO crops. One of the most well recognized herbicides is Monsanto s Roundup, which contains the carcinogen glyphosate. To prevent from killing the crops when farmers apply Roundup to their fields, Monsanto invented GMO versions of many staple crops such as corn, soybeans, and cotton which resist Roundup. Like the weeds, these GMO crops still absorb glyphosate, however the crops are able to stay alive through changes in their genetic makeup which make them herbicide resistant. The herbicide tolerance of certain crops has been adopted because it, simplifies weed control to the use of a single herbicide and a flexible and easy management strategy (Labrada, 2003), as well as decreasing the cost of weed control programs. As a result, Monsanto bought out most small farms and now owns 80% of the U.S. market share of corn and 93% of the U.S. market share of soy, which are then sold to modern food processing. Upwards of 75% of the processed food on American supermarket shelves contain genetically engineered ingredients. The Diverse Social Self-Verification And Self Enhancement Reaction Paper: The Diverse Social Self and Self Verification and Self Enhancement (PSY 138) Understanding the foundation of the social self, premise of self verification and self enhancement are crucial to the development and framework of the human psyche. This response paper will analyze the basic social self, the way humans perceive their own image and the importance of self verification and self enhancement (Swann et al., 1989). Once people have a good understanding of the different aspects in their personalities and self awareness, they can apply positive upward or downward momentum of self verification and self enhancement to daily activities; this will build self esteem and can serve as a solid foundation in living a good life. The Diverse Social Self The human psyche is diverse in nature. Social psychologists view the three parts that make up the social self as the individual self, relational self, and collective self (Gilovich et al., 2013). These categories make up the framework of how humans see themselves as individuals, how they are in relationships, and how they fit into society. Several important factors in the social self are self esteem and self worth. The effects of self verification and self enhancement on positive self esteem and negative vs. positive self worth can be further analyzed by Swann, Pelham, and Krull in their 1989 study. It faced an immense and inexorable sum of social outcry that, while initially ignored, could not go completely unnoticed and unacknowledged by the government. Amongst these reasons is the ineffectiveness of conventional military tactics, the overabundant loss of American lives and the loss of both militant and civilian Vietnamese lives, as well as the insurmountable opposition to the war itself. The most detrimental to the Vietnam War effort, however, was indisputably the lack of public support for the war. A country can hardly fight a war without the support of its people, let alone a war that requires an immense amount of resources and manpower. In addition to this, no prolonged conflict can be maintained by a country without the support of its people. The Vietnam War involved all of these elements. It was an intense conflict that required an unprecedented amount of manpower as well as supplies to be maintained. It was also an incredibly prolonged conflict that produced little to no progression and lacked any definitive goal to be progressed toward. Due to the powerful opposition supplied by the Anti war Movement, civil leader, such as Martin Luther King Jr., and the general disdain for the war on behalf of the American public, especially later in the war, it became a necessity for the American government to retract from Vietnam. In the following essay, the aim is to explore the concept of contradictions or dualities as portrayed in the novella A Clockwork Orange. A Clockwork Orange portrays the concept of good versus evil. It is usual to think of good and evil as two poles, two opposite directions, the antithesis of one another.... We must begin by doing away with this convention (Buber: 1938). One has to disagree with Buber, good and evil are two opposite poles because they both deal with different aspects and values. England had it, but lost that control of their child nation in 1766 when they revoked the Stamp Act and gave the colonists the notion that they had the power and authority to independently run the budding country. After being allowed this minute freedom, the colonists were not pleased with Parliament s taxes and attempts of an iron fist hold on the Americas and along with their opposing views on nearly everything, decided that they were no longer pleased with being considered British. Salutary neglect also contributed to the colonists inflated sense of pride aptly named because at this time England neglected the colonies, giving them room for individual theories, politics, beliefs, and the abilities to run their own lives for a while. The freedom was too much for them to go back to how things were before when England decided to tighten their grip. At this time, the colonists started a war to free themselves. The Chemistry And Physic Of Either River Or Lake I would like to phrase the question in another way, which is how would I determine the representative sample and then accordingly what the constituents to be sampled?. As representative sample would be the least number of data points required to give way a statistically precise picture of the water body being analyzed. The chemistry and physic of either river or lake is a function of the substances that contact with either in flowing or still water and how long been there with their exposure to the sunlight or wind. The constituents from varied sources that are entering or leaving (river/lake) can be a function of the hydrology and topography system. Water from sources such as direct/indirect precipitation, surface runoff from snowmelt, or storm water from exposed rock or packed soil, or groundwater inflow from the aquifer will react with the soil or bed/sedimentary rock and dissolved them (as the phenomena knowns weathering condition). Therefore these variable sources can add a critical deposit into the river or lake (surface water) constituents. For instance, many lakes and rivers sensitive to acidification due to the acid precipitation/ mine drainage, or to the atmospheric inputs such as (dust, SO4, NO3, Cl) leaving no time for neutralization before reaching lakes and rivers. Further, seasonally variation for the snowmelt, dry period, runoff, discharge can be explained by a plot of chemistry versus time or discharge depending upon the site.
