What Does The Flowers Symbolize In The Chrysanthemums
Flowers are typically given to someone as an expression of love or friendship. However, depending on
a person culture, it can also mean mourning and or death. Example, carnations and lilies represent
mourning, but yellow Roses represents friendship; Red roses are seen as romantic. Often times
flowers have shown symbolism in different literary pieces. In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums ,
the protagonist, Elisa s loneliness and confinement are represented by the fenced in garden and growth
of her chrysanthemums.
To begin The Chrysanthemums , is about a woman named Elisa who lives on a farm with her husband.
Throughout the entire story, it is evident that she feels lonely and trapped. This is expressed through
the symbolism of chrysanthemums.

Climbing and Peak
Characters: Main Characters: Peak, 14 year old Peak Marcello. His parents are professional mountain
climbers. As Peak says, It could have been worse. My parents could have named me Glacier, or Abyss,
or Crampon. Peak gets in big trouble for attempting to climb a skyscraper in New York City, where he
is living with his mother and stepfather. Peak gets sent off to Tibet, to join his father who leads groups
of wealthy people up Mt. Everest. Climbing Mt. Everest is a dangerous pursuit but Peak s father wants
to become famous by helping his son become the youngest person to climb the mountain. Besides the
physical danger, Peak sees the selfish behavior of some climbers, who will ignore a person who needs

Even for an experienced climber Mt. Everest s weather is the hardest to get acustomed to and climb in.
Everest has experienced everything from snow to sleet, from rain to hail, and from sun to blasting,

realizes that he doesn t have a good reason for reaching the summit, other than to make money for his
dad s mountain climbing company. (Peak loves climbing but he obviously feels obligated to climb the
mountain because of his dad this makes him feel confussed.) Man vs. Self When Peak is ten feet from
reaching the summit of Mt. Everest, and becoming the youngest person to summit Mt. Everest. When
he is ten feet away from the summit he stops and waits so his friend Sun jo, a Nepalese boy, can reach
the summit before himself. Peak does this because just then he realizes that Sun jo needs the fame and
money so he pay for his sisters to stay in their boarding school. (Peak wanted to help his friend
because he was in need for the money, so Peak let him be the first one at top. Later on I makes Peak
feel good about himself because he did the right thing.) Man vs. Self After Peak Marcello is arrested

ISIS In Iraq
There are numerous reports that show that the raid of Iraq was a huge mistake which should not have
occurred. As a result of the actions taken by President George W. Bush and members of Congress,
ISIS was able to form after fall of Saddam Hussein during the Iraq War. ISIS, the extremist group
broke off of Al Qaeda in 2010 and is now one of the most violent group of extremist that the world has
seen today.
George W. Bush, the forty third president of the U.S is said to be held responsible for the arrangement
and development of the terrorist group ISIS. ISIS relies mostly on captured weapons with major
sources including Saddam Hussein s Iraqi stockpiles from the 2003 Iraq insurgency and weapons from

It is proven many times that no country in the Middle East can become a democracy like the kind in
the U.S today. There are numerous reason why this came to be. The first is, When the French, British,
and Italians colonized their spheres of influence, they appointed Arab men who they believed could
best govern in for them. However, due to the small intentions of the Western powers, they failed to
inject democratic ideals into their spheres of influence.this is a huge point because since the Ottoman
empire fell in World War I and the loss of the Middle East in World War II, many countries were left
leaderless and shattered. This led to the fact that some countries blame the ideology of democracy for
poor economy and no power amongst other countries. Another reason is State propaganda. Like Mao
Zedong, Stalin, and even Kim Jong Un today, people are afraid to disagree with the government. In
the Middle East during the rise of dictators like Saddam Hussein, many established a secret police to
ensure order throughout the country whatever the measure is used to silence them. The removal of
Saddam left Iraq leaderless and the renewal of the constitution was not in play yet. This left many
militia and ISIS to take over small parts or territories, even steal weapons in which the U.S has
funded. Almost 73% of all weapons ISIS have comes from the U.S. President Bush even could have
taken Benghazi s incident as a

Alex Turner Interpretation
Do I Wanna Know? by the Arctic Monkeys is a song about a man who wants a girl back. The theme
that Alex Turner, the song s writer, could be trying to get across is that love is very difficult to let go
of. In the song, Turner writes Been wondering if your heart s still open and if so I wanna know what
time it shuts. These lyrics express his questions about the way she feels for him. Turner also
continually questions in the song Do I wanna know? , which really highlights the indecision he is
facing. He is afraid she doesn t feel the same way towards him and he doesn t want to hear that. The
chorus also contains the powerful lyrics: Ever thought of calling when you ve had a few?/ Cause I
always do (Turner). In this line he seems to explain

Distorted Reality In Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
Katherine Mansfield was born in 1888 in New Zealand, and passed away the year of 1923 in France.
She moved to London as a young woman and began writing short stories. In her story Miss Brill, a
lonesome, elderly lady spends her day watching people in a local public garden. Miss Brill was
unnoticed by the people that visited the garden, but she managed to convince herself that she was an
amazing actress and the people around her were just part of her world. Her fantasy is quickly crushed
by remarks made by two people in the garden towards the end of the story. Events following the
incident in the park make it clear that something changed in Miss Brill at the end of the story. The
theme of this story is a distorted reality, and Miss Brill was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This leaves some people alone, friendless, and left to create their own sense of existence. Miss Brill is
one of these people, she is distant from the world and does not really belong anywhere. People acted
as if she did not exist, and for the most part did not speak to her. She became very skilled at
eavesdropping on other people s conversations without letting them know she was listening. She was
so accustomed to listening to others and observing, she forgot that is was normal to engage in
conversations with others around her. Although Miss Brill is an English teacher, it is clear that she
does not share things with people in her life such as her students. One can assume that there is not a
real connection between Miss Brill and her students. While she believes going to the park is like a big
play in which she is very important, she still fails to share this information with her class. The
relationship with the old man that she reads to at the park four times a week is almost non existent.
She insinuates that if he were to die it would not matter to her. She thinks she is an actress reading to
an old gentlemen, but in reality she is just a school teacher reading to a man that is sleeping. Miss Brill

Sodium Bicarbonate And Hydrochloric Acid Airbags
Scenario:
In this experiment, you have been asked by your teacher, to investigate the design of a small scale
airbag system they want to produce as a child safety device to put into baby strollers. Because of
sodium azide s toxicity (which is used in many vehicular airbags), it is suggested you use the reaction
of NaHCO₃ (sodium bicarbonate or baking soda) with an aqueous solution of HCL (stomach acid) to
produce CO₂ gas to test your engineering design. The reaction of hydrochloric acid and sodium
bicarbonate is: HCL + NaHCO₃, one mole of CO₂ gas is produced. Regarding the other products,
NaCl dissolves in the water to create a salt solution which occupies only a small portion of the volume
inside the bag.

of baking soda and 20mL of Hydrochloric acid the bag inflated in about one second and inflated to
just the right amount where the bag was not too hard and not too soft.
Experimental Error: There are several errors that could have taken place in this lab. The first error
could have been excess air being inside the bag before the experiment starts. Another error could have
been, left over water from previous trials preformed in the lab. The third possible error could be,
baking soda leaking out of the egg into the hydrochloric acid causing a premature reaction.

The Untold Stories Through the Lenses of the ARVN Soldiers...
The Vietnam War began in December in 1956 and ended in April 1975. Initially the war was between
North Vietnam and South Vietnam but they both formed allies. North Vietnam s allies were the Soviet
Union, China, and other communist allies, while South Vietnam s allies were anti communist
countries like the United States. The United States entered the war and sought the help of the South
Vietnamese army (ARVN). Despite the US collaborating with the ARVNs, the ARVNs were
constantly belittled and were not recognized for their contributions. Therefore, because the U.S. failed
to work effectively with the ARVNs, it may have cost the Americans the war. In other words, if the

David Mar in the, Vietnam 1945 The Quest for Power, explained how significant this year was for the
Vietnamese, while the French, Japanese, Chinese, British, and Americans fought for control over
Indochina. The Vietnamese quickly discovered they could publish, organize, and demonstrate in favor
of a national independence, as long as they did not hinder Japanese defense preparations. As a result of
the multiple countries trying to gain control of Vietnam, Vietnam went from a colonial state, a royal
government to a democratic republic. By the end of 1945, these political convolutions finally became
things of the past. For eighty years, the French worked to seemingly transform Vietnam into a Paris
replica, calling it Indochina and taking advantage of all its peoples and resources. Ho Chi Minh
declared himself president on September 2 and announced the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (Marr,
1997). Once Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam s Declaration of Independence, he called on the allies
to recognize the Vietnamese people s rights to independence and to be a liberated country. However,
not long after Vietnam gained their independence did the United States declare war. Although Vietnam
was able to withstand a thousand years of Chinese ruling, they suffered enormously during the
Vietnam War. However, one has to question who won or lost the Vietnam War. This question has
plagued many Americans and other people. Despite who won or lost the war and whether the Vietnam

Building A Way For Mcgill Students
Background The objective of this business proposal is to establish a way for McGill students to be
informed of the occupancy, or rather, the vacancy of seats in the libraries on McGill campus. It is our
group s aim to come up with a system which can count the number of people on the each floor of a
library facility and to calculate the number of vacant seats available. In order to do achieve this
objective, we are to situate sensors at the main entrances of the libraries as well as at the entryways of
each floor in the library buildings. By counting the traffic of people who are entering and exiting each
library building, as well as each floor, an approximate number of the seats taken in different parts of
libraries can be estimated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the rapid advancement in information technology (IT), which entails information,
communication, mobile, and networking technologies, the service sector s list of ventures is constantly
expanding (Rust Huang, 2014). The advances in IT sector, therefore, are very closely associated with
the service revolution and the information revolution. Rust and Huang (2014) aim to explain these
phenomena s relationship to advances in IT and to consider the implications of this relationship for
marketing science. Much of the drastic transformation of the world s service sector from an industrial
to a post industrial service society is due to both the contribution of IT to service and from IT as a
service. In other words, the advancement of IT has transformed the nature of service fundamentally
(Rust Huang, 2014). IT plays a role of facilitator; as the mobile and networking technology allows the
consumers to access various services anywhere at any time, IT facilitates firm to customer, firm to
firm, and customer to firm communications online and on mobile devices. Hence, this trend enables
application developers to tailor services to fit the needs of each consumer (Rust Huang, 2014). As an
application developer aims to satisfy a specific need of the target consumers, the service quality and
the satisfaction of the consumers increase. As Figure 1

News boards, rating platforms, newsfeeds, video platforms. These services and platforms go far
beyond the old text based web pages. As it offers a variety of opportunities for people [9].
In addition, participating in these networks requires two steps. The first one is to sign up for your own
account. The second step is to create your profile and fill it with your personal information, interests,
hobbies, work history, and educational background. This will help you find people with common
experiences or histories.

Criminals Should Not Have Guns
Convicted Criminals Should Not Own Guns First off, gun control is one of the most stunning and
intriguing topics discussed in the United States today. Gun control should only be for criminals they
should not take guns away from innocent people. Criminals should not be allowed to carry guns in
public as protection because they may harm others, use it for illegal purposes, and with no federal law.
Also, by citing this amendment the supreme court had upheld the right of states to govern firearms
(Masters). In 2008, the decisions were confirmed that an individual right to keep and bear arms, had
outlawed handguns and to lock them in their homes and for them to be disassembled in Washington,
D.C. (Masters). The U.S. has the highest rate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also add that the system has holes in it (Volokh). Another problem is the laws of carrying guns
vary enormously (Volokh). The case was basically about reading the criminal state and made sure that
the criminal will not go to prison unless the government proves the requirements (Volokh). Gorsuch
and his associates argued that the 10th circuit should have turned the decision that failed around earlier
(Volokh). A felon can regain his gun rights under federal law if the state where he got convicted
restores four things (Volokh). the first and second ones are his gun rights under state law their right to
vote (Volokh). The third and fourth ones are the felons right to serve on a jury their right to hold office
(Volokh). Lastly, no criminals should be allowed to carry guns as protection in public. Gun control
should only apply to criminals who have used guns as a weapon. One reason that criminals should not
be allowed is because they used it to harm another person. Also, a few others would be that they used
it illegally or there is no federal law. Of course they have certain restrictions on felons or criminals
who have used guns as to harm

Or Fester Like A Sore And A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes
As the dream for opportunity in the African American community continually gets repudiated, the
hope shifts to hopelessness. Another visual image that Hughes offers introduces the description of a
sore. For example, as Hughes was writing this poem he inquires, Or fester like a sore / and the run? (4
5). The use of sore connotes a painful injury. This simile suggests that both a sore and a dream
deferred are both injuries that cause excruciating pain to the human body. The running of the sore
refers to infection that takes part in the sore. Hughes similarly compares the infected sore with an
infection caused by the dream deferred. Syntax pertains to the arrangement of words in the text
including punctuation, length, and focus. Hughes uses

Essay On Stress And Stress
The human body is like a car engine. It needs fuels to be powered for it to run, but instead of fuel we
need food and nutrients to keep a steady metabolism. If too many calories are consumed (being over
3,500 calories) then those calories turn into adipose or fat. In stressful situations, a person can become
inclined to eat more than or less than recommended and this can lead to a change in their weight; for
example, the infamous freshmen fifteen. The freshmen fifteen are the common weight gain of college
freshmen that is the result of stressful events throughout the first year of school. While not every
student can become subjected to this it is a great example of the affects stress can have on an
individual. Stress and weight gain can affect any person even adolescents. Stress can influence any
individual regardless of age. In a study done (Health and Behavior in Teenagers Study) 4,065 teens
had their weight, height, and waist measured. Over five years those teens had their waists and BMI
measured and along with their perceived stress (being ranked from low to high). Prior factors were
also taken to account; age, sex, and various other factors were added to the measurements. Every year
the cohorts were observed for weight gain and it was indicated that the individuals with moderate to
high stress levels had been associated with higher BMI and waist circumferences. (Jaarsveld, 2009)
This study demonstrated that stress can affect any individual regardless of the age.

Imperialism Question
Week 5 Imperialism Questions 1. Even though most of Latin America became independent of
European colonial rule in the 19c, what were some of the cultural influences and other ties that still
existed between the two continents? Between 1810 and 1825, all the Spanish territories on the
American mainland gain their sovereignty from Spain. Simultaneously, the power of the Catholic
Church diminishes, including its patronage of the visual arts. During these war torn years, cultural
production declines. These years witness political reform and the beginnings of self fashioned
societies. Caudillos or military dictators initially fill the vacuum left by the break up of colonial rule,

7. What was the late 19c definition of the word imperialism? How has that definition changed in the
post World War II era? It meant complete domination, and it changed again as Germany took over
everything in WWII and than it meant to make a sort of treaty with another country. 8. Identify some
of the early 20c opponents of European imperialism. What were their explanations for the imperial
fever that dominated most European countries [and the United States] at that time [see docs. on pp.
910 912]? Ghandi was one of the opponents, and they did a silent protest and nonviolent protest in
order to rebel these forms of imperialism. 9. Why do modern historians feel uncomfortable with these
early 20c explanations for imperialism? Because it was a time of devastation, many deaths, lots of
tragedy and really abuse and exploitation at that point in time. 10. What were some of the political,
economic, social, intellectual, and military factors that explained the sudden increase in the pace and
importance of European imperialism in the late 19c? The essential impetus was the Industrial
Revolution which led to a search for (and control of) sources of raw materials and captive markets to
sell manufactured goods, and become a world power with the most colonies and most money. 11. How
did their colonial experiences help make them good civil servants back home and vice versa?

The 1967 movie, The Battle of the Algiers, follows the story of the Algerian revolt against the French
government. The film, focusing mostly on the Arabs point of view, portrays an unstable period of time
during the French colonialization of Algeria. Throughout the movie, the gender politics shown are
greatly troubling to a modern audience, with women being treated like objects during the entire revolt.
This also ties to the idea of morality within the film, showing that the terrorists are heartless and
uncompassionate towards the French people. The film not only highlights the morality issues with the
Arabs, but also the French treatment of the Algerian revolutionaries.

Gas Masks During World War I
On October 1914, Germany gassed Britain at Neuve Chapelle, but this did not have much impact.
Later, on 31 January 1915 the first biggest known gas attack was made by Germany to Russia. The
generals had calculated over 18,000 shells fired that had contained liquid xylyl bromide tear gas.
Because of the cold weather the liquid, instead of vaporizing, froze and did not get the best results for
Germany. Ever since then, countries are trying to make better poison gasses and to counter this,
countries have to make better, much more efficient gas masks. By 22 April 1915, Germany struck
again with poison gas but this time with chlorine. The wind helped get the chlorine to the French
territories. The Triple Entente, which is Great Britain, France, Russia claimed that what Germany did
was a violation of international law. Germany disagreed saying that the Hague treaty had only banned
chemical shells, not the use of gas projectors. On The Second Battle of Ypres , it was reported that 90
men died from gas poisoning in the trenches, out of the 207 near the dressing stations forty six out of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Fuel Cell Technology
One of the greatest problem faced by the world is pollution, which is causing a lot of damage to the
planet which is irreparable damage. The damaged being caused is affecting the human society by
polluting the basic needs like fresh air, water and food (Everythingconnects.org, 2013). Pollution
caused by humans is rising daily and as a result radical changes to the planet are happening. Pollution
is caused by many things, but a major contributor is the automobile industry. Vehicles which are part
of our lives, they are emitting greenhouse gas which causes pollution.
Today there are about 1.2 billion cars on road in the world (Voelcker, 2014) and fossil fuels like petrol,

The positive terminal is a catalyst which is meant to speed up the chemistry in the fuel cell. When
atoms of hydrogen reach the catalyst they split into hydrogen ions protons and electrons. The protons

layer is made up of plastic film and only protons can pass through it. This process powers the electric
motor the fuel cell is made of stacks of fuel cells because a single fuel cell has power similar to a
single battery.
The central theme is exploring if Fuel cell technology can be a viable alternative to fossil fuel cars.
Firstly, most cars on road use petrol or diesel. As fossil fuels are non renewable these fuels are crude
oil fossil fuels and have taken years to form, but fuels are used at a faster rate than formed.
Furthermore, the combustion of these fuels leads to global warming and climate change caused by
greenhouse gases from the combustion. These effects can be solved by using fuel cells as a
replacement for fossil fuels. fuel cells have near zero emissions, as fuel cell cars use hydrogen gas as
fuel. The hydrogen gas reacts with oxygen from the air, this reaction s end result is electricity and
water (Torres, 2014). The use of fuel cells will drastically lower the amount of greenhouse gases
released, as only water comes out of the exhaust instead of CO2 and N2. The effect of that

the Apostle Paul and his pastoral leadership has given me great insight as to how live life daily. His
missionary journey s as God s representative has had great influence on my own theological thought
and preservation of my faith. The book of Colossians is filled with stories of redemption, knowledge
and the power of prayer. The Apostle s extraordinary life from darkness to light can only be attributed
to the Grace of the Lord. Paul s letter to the Church in Colossae is powerful as well as informative, it
not only addresses the specific problem of heresy, but Paul is stating himself to be specifically chosen
by God to demonstrate the role of intercessory prayer and suffering as demonstrated in Colossians 1:9

Essay about The Inadequacy of Paley s Argument from Design
The Inadequacy of the Argument from Design
William Paley s teleological argument (also known as the argument from design) is an attempt to
prove the existence of god. This argument succeeds in proving that while existence was created by an
aggregation of forces, to define these forces, as a conscious, rational, and ultimately godlike is
dubious. Although the conclusions are valid, the argument makes several logical errors. The
teleological argument relies on inductive reasoning, rendering the argument itself valid, but unsound.
The argument fails to apply its own line of reasoning to itself, resulting in infinite regression. Beyond
the scope of its logical flaws, the arguments content lacks accurate comparisons. The argument hinges

Although this type of argument is practical at predicting patterns of re occurring events, they are never
legitimately sound. Consider the sunrise. It has risen every day for thousands of years on end.
Therefore, it will rise tomorrow. Despite the odds of this happening being very high, there is not a one
hundred percent chance that it will. Furthermore, consider the existence of the universe itself.
Although the odds of life being created by a random amalgamation of forces are very low, the correct
combination for life to exist only has to occur once. From that point forward, evolution and a reaction
to external stimuli allows life to change naturally.
The argument also indulges in an infinite regression. It assumes that a transcendent god created the
entire universe. However, it fails to account for what created the god. As stated in the lecture slides, a
committee of lesser beings may have created the god, but that begs the question about who created the
committee. One could object to this idea and believe that god has always existed, transcending time
and reality itself. Once again, however, this logic is just as applicable to the universe. The universe is
as capable of existing forever as a god is.
William Paley further begs the question in stating that because of perceived complexities in an entity,
it must have been designed. This perceived relation between complexity and design is an inherently

Speed Control Of Se.d. C Motor Using Imc
Speed Control of SE.D.C Motor using IMC (Simulation done on LabVIEW) Salim
salimnitk@gmail.com Abstract: SEDC motors are used extensively in industrial variable speed
applications because of most demanding speed torque characteristics and are simple in controlling
aspects. This paper presents an implementation of internal model control (IMC) for speed control of
separately excited SEDC motor based on LabVIEW. A mathematical model of the process has been
developed using real plant data and then conventional controller has been designed. A comparative
analysis of performance evaluation of controller has been done. Key Words: SEDC Motor, IMC,
LabVIEW. 1 Introduction DC motors are widely used in industrial applications, robot manipulators
and home appliances, because of their high reliability, flexibility and low cost, where speed and
position control of motor are required. This paper deals with the performance evaluation of internal
model control method with a clear objective to control the speed of separately excited DC motor. In
this paper, Speed of a SEDC motor is controlled using IMC. Separately excited DC motors are highly
versatile and flexible in aspects of speed control. The basic property of separately excited DC motor is
that speed of separately excited DC motor can be adjusted by varying its terminal voltage. Therefore,
the separately excited DC motor control is better than other kinds of motors. SEDC motor is a highly

William Shakespeare s Life Of The English Language
One of the greatest dramatists of all time came into the world on April 23, 1564 in Stratford upon
Avon, England, a small market town northwest of London (Biography 2016). William Shakespeare
grew up modestly throughout the early years of his life, but the influence that he had in the literary
world was anything but. His childhood education and young adult jobs aided him in creating a name
for himself gradually to the theater. With patience and commitment towards his writings, Shakespeare
became known as the finest poet of the English language (Lineback 2016). As a child, Shakespeare
had two older sisters and three younger brothers. His parents were John Shakespeare and Mary Arden
(Biography 2016). William s father was a leather merchant while his mother was a local landed
heiress. At the beginning of William s life, his father held official positions like a bailiff, which
resembled a mayor (Biography 2016). His parents higher statuses helped Shakespeare attend a well
known local grammar school, known as the King s New School, that not only studied Latin grammar
but also reading, writing, and the classics of that time (Biography 2016; History 2016). The education
during the Elizabethan Age made literacy and grammar a high priority for the young males of England
(Shakespeare in America 2016). The school days ran from six in the morning to five o clock at night.

The Full Effects of War Essay
War is one thing that we all know is a necessary evil. The United States has been involved in many
wars since being founded in the late 1700 s. There are many reasons that the United States has been
involved in, or is currently involved in wars. Although war is not always a popular thing to become a
part of, the full effects of the war are not always known and may never be known as long as the United
States is a country. Stephen Crane tells us that there are many effects of war in his poem War is Kind .
From that it can be derived that physical, mental, family, etc are all effects of war needing to be
monitored. All of these effects are causing hardships among the people that are coming home from

These effects are all common in the world today, even without war being the cause, many
underdeveloped countries around the world that have the aforementioned malnutrition and suffering.
Hopefully, the United States can help soldiers coming home from wartime missions with the physical
aspects of the home life that they are no longer able to perform anymore. One way that we as a
country can help out the soldiers is to fit them with the limb, or body parts that they have lost.
According to Spc. Lorie Jewell, prosthetics are keeping soldiers in the mainstream of life and in some
cases, on active duty (Jewell). One example of the work that has been put into helping soldiers is the
following; Spc. Lewis, 20, knew very little about prosthetics just a few months ago. A Jan. 21 mortar
attack on an Army camp near Baqubah, Iraq changed that. Lewis was a communications equipment
repair specialist attached to the 588th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division. It
was early evening and he was standing next to his vehicle, talking and smoking with two friends
when, without warning, a mortar round hit them. From the ground Lewis recalled looking up to see
most of his right leg completely severed from his body. The two friends were dead. Two months later,
Lewis was standing on two feet one natural and the other

The Stress Of Reaching Expectations
The stress of reaching expectations raised by others often withers the most promising players, and
being the younger brother to one of the most successful Philadelphia Catholic Baseball players
definitely sets those lofty anticipations. But William Penn Charter School s Matt Gorman not only
showed the potential reminiscent of his brother Joey Gorman, he is creating his own legacy.
Matt s freshman campaign yielded multiple accolades highlighted by an All Inter Ac Second Team
selection and a spot on the Independents/Inter Ac Carpenter Cup Classic roster. Personal
accomplishments also manifested into team achievements as Gorman aided Penn Charter in winning
the Inter Ac league championship.
While the early success could change the resident of the 300 block of Ritner Street, he prefers to stay

I visited a few schools during eighth grade, Chestnut Hill Academy, St. Joe s Prep, [Ss.] Neumann

comforting feeling, the academics are great, and I don t mean to put any other school down with

Persuasive Essay On Drug Cartels
For me personally, it s been a nightmare, because I don t see any way out now. The men who got

Mexican investigative journalists Anabel Hernandez s response when asked about her safety and a
recent home invasion directed toward her courtesy of the drug cartels.(Alexandrov) This is what it is
like to lead a career as a journalist reporting on drug cartels in many latin American countries. The
cartels influence on local and federal government in Mexico gives them the freedom to threaten and
actively pursue journalists as targets with no retributions for their actions. This is leaving journalists
like Hernandez defenseless and in danger, in the last ten years alone more than 80 journalists have
been killed and nothing is being done about it.(Alexandrov)

woman who has a vaginally delivery may have at least 6 weeks of leave and a woman who had a

laws in place regarding maternity leave as of 2018, with a fifth state adding laws or regulations in

The stance that is taken in the court to criminalize Jefferson is detrimental because they make
Jefferson lose his dignity as a man. Jefferson is compared to something that is seen as a rodent, and
taking such a stance makes Jefferson lose all the hope that he has. When the defense referred to
Jefferson as a boy and not a man, jefferson was being talked down by the side that was supposed to be

I am writing to you to explain the problems concerning genetic modification in humans. The field of
genetics has come so far in the past decade, and there are currently efforts being made to correct
autosomal recessive diseases, such as Hemophilia B.1 I agree that being able to cure diseases, like
Hemophilia, is important, but it also means that scientists would be able to create designer humans.
The concept of designer genes in human modification reinforces the idea that there is an ideal human
which is both ableist and catered strictly to upper class individuals. In this letter, I am expressing my
opinion that while advances in genetic engineering are being made, it is important to remember that

A Brief Biography On The State Of Education
A Brief Biography It is interesting to note that one of the most influential educators and researchers of
all time was rejected for a professorship position because she was a woman and because she was
overqualified (Fraenkel). Much to the benefit of present day curriculum development, the job rejection
landed her in a series of positions that would eventually lead to her work with the U.S. Office of
Education. Described as a short, squat, and spunky woman, Hilda Taba was notorious for her matter of
fact, no nonsense approach in dealing with people (Krull, 481). Born in Estonia, in 1902, she received
a German education, and then went on to study in the United States. The combination and the contrast
of her two educations would later play an integral role in the formation of her curriculum ideals.
Furthermore, her background in science contributed greatly to her scientific model of curriculum
development (Hayes, 15). Taba worked closely with some of the most influential curriculum
researchers and theorist of the 21st Century, including Benjamin Bloom, Ralph Tyler and John Dewey
(Costa, Loveall, 57). In fact, many historical surveys regarding leaders of curriculum development and
progressive education commonly refer to Taba as a disciple of Dewey.
Learning and Curriculum Over the course of her career, Taba developed many theories regarding
learning. In her seminal book, Curriculum Development Theory and Practice (1962), Taba defined

The Role Of Self-Authorship In Revenge Of The Nerds
College is a time of transformation for students as they adapt to new environments and expectations. It
is also a time of increased freedom, where students learn more about themselves and who they are as
people. Baxter Magolda s Theory of Self authorship deals with the journey of a person as they define
themselves and move from external to internal definition. In the movie, Revenge of the Nerds, many
of the characters move through this journey of self authorship. In this paper, we will focus on one of
the characters in the movie, and show how he frees himself from the constraints of external definition.
We will begin with a brief summary of the movie, and then focus on how Magolda s theory applies to

disregards external opposition and goes to the pep rally to confront the jocks. He makes a speech

Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare
Throughout Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra, readers are constantly thrown in the middle of a
battle between Roman and Egyptian values. Antony, a noble warrior for the Romans, is the character
that seems to have the most trouble between this dichotomy. He is constantly caught between reason
(Rome) and passion (Egypt) and has a difficult time making the transitions. Cleopatra is the character
that stays most true to her roots, but begins adopting the other side s values toward the end of the
story. She makes a smoother transition than Antony, which can be attributed to her self confidence and
open minded spirit. Antony is a constant source of back and forth commotion while Cleopatra seems
to posses Egyptian qualities until the end of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although much rage from Antony caused him to threaten to kill her, Cleopatra had seduced Antony
through her sexualized actions and personality so much in their time together that Antony quickly
forgave Cleopatra when he received news she was dead. In a contrasting view, Cleopatra s decision to
betray Antony twice in battle can also be seen as a Roman action that signifies strong dominance and
influence. Although it was a decision that hurt the Romans, she took on the masculine role of the
Romans and led them to their loss. When Cleopatra decided to betray Antony, not once but twice, she
made a decision that took initiative, leadership, and masculinity that are all characteristics of the
Romans. Another way in which Cleopatra expresses this inner dominance is through her power over
Antony throughout the entire book. While maybe not seen as a Roman quality at the beginning
because Egyptians tend to portray femininity, Cleopatra s actions towards Antony go far beyond
femininity and into supremacy. Whether it was through her charm and sexual manipulation to control
Antony in his decisions, her persuasive powers to regain his trust and forgiveness after her betrayals,
or her structured view on how Antony should treat her, Cleopatra undoubtedly dominated the
relationship. As the story ends, Cleopatra possesses reason, a Roman quality, in her decision to kill
herself. While many may argue this was an Egyptian action, it

However, depending on a person culture, it can also mean mourning and or death. Example, carnations and lilies represent mourning, but yellow Roses represents friendship; Red roses are seen as romantic. Often times flowers have shown symbolism in different literary pieces. In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums , the protagonist, Elisa s loneliness and confinement are represented by the fenced in garden and growth of her chrysanthemums. To begin The Chrysanthemums , is about a woman named Elisa who lives on a farm with her husband. Throughout the entire story, it is evident that she feels lonely and trapped. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is proven many times that no country in the Middle East can become a democracy like the kind in the U.S today. There are numerous reason why this came to be. The first is, When the French, British, and Italians colonized their spheres of influence, they appointed Arab men who they believed could best govern in for them. However, due to the small intentions of the Western powers, they failed to inject democratic ideals into their spheres of influence.this is a huge point because since the Ottoman empire fell in World War I and the loss of the Middle East in World War II, many countries were left leaderless and shattered. This led to the fact that some countries blame the ideology of democracy for poor economy and no power amongst other countries. Another reason is State propaganda. Like Mao Zedong, Stalin, and even Kim Jong Un today, people are afraid to disagree with the government. In the Middle East during the rise of dictators like Saddam Hussein, many established a secret police to ensure order throughout the country whatever the measure is used to silence them. The removal of Saddam left Iraq leaderless and the renewal of the constitution was not in play yet. This left many militia and ISIS to take over small parts or territories, even steal weapons in which the U.S has funded. Almost 73% of all weapons ISIS have comes from the U.S. President Bush even could have taken Benghazi s incident as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theme that Alex Turner, the song s writer, could be trying to get across is that love is very difficult to let go of. In the song, Turner writes Been wondering if your heart s still open and if so I wanna know what time it shuts. These lyrics express his questions about the way she feels for him. Turner also continually questions in the song Do I wanna know? , which really highlights the indecision he is facing. He is afraid she doesn t feel the same way towards him and he doesn t want to hear that. She moved to London as a young woman and began writing short stories. In her story Miss Brill, a lonesome, elderly lady spends her day watching people in a local public garden. Miss Brill was unnoticed by the people that visited the garden, but she managed to convince herself that she was an amazing actress and the people around her were just part of her world. Her fantasy is quickly crushed by remarks made by two people in the garden towards the end of the story. Events following the incident in the park make it clear that something changed in Miss Brill at the end of the story. The theme of this story is a distorted reality, and Miss Brill was ... Miss Brill is one of these people, she is distant from the world and does not really belong anywhere. People acted as if she did not exist, and for the most part did not speak to her. She became very skilled at eavesdropping on other people s conversations without letting them know she was listening. She was so accustomed to listening to others and observing, she forgot that is was normal to engage in conversations with others around her. Although Miss Brill is an English teacher, it is clear that she does not share things with people in her life such as her students. One can assume that there is not a real connection between Miss Brill and her students. While she believes going to the park is like a big play in which she is very important, she still fails to share this information with her class. The relationship with the old man that she reads to at the park four times a week is almost non existent. She insinuates that if he were to die it would not matter to her. Sodium Bicarbonate And Hydrochloric Acid Airbags Scenario: In this experiment, you have been asked by your teacher, to investigate the design of a small scale airbag system they want to produce as a child safety device to put into baby strollers. Because of sodium azide s toxicity (which is used in many vehicular airbags), it is suggested you use the reaction of NaHCO₃ (sodium bicarbonate or baking soda) with an aqueous solution of HCL (stomach acid) to produce CO₂ gas to test your engineering design. The reaction of hydrochloric acid and sodium bicarbonate is: HCL + NaHCO₃, one mole of CO₂ gas is produced. Initially the war was between North Vietnam and South Vietnam but they both formed allies. North Vietnam s allies were the Soviet Union, China, and other communist allies, while South Vietnam s allies were anti communist countries like the United States. The United States entered the war and sought the help of the South Vietnamese army (ARVN). Despite the US collaborating with the ARVNs, the ARVNs were constantly belittled and were not recognized for their contributions. Therefore, because the U.S. failed to work effectively with the ARVNs, it may have cost the Americans the war. David Mar in the, Vietnam 1945 The Quest for Power, explained how significant this year was for the Vietnamese, while the French, Japanese, Chinese, British, and Americans fought for control over Indochina. The Vietnamese quickly discovered they could publish, organize, and demonstrate in favor of a national independence, as long as they did not hinder Japanese defense preparations. As a result of the multiple countries trying to gain control of Vietnam, Vietnam went from a colonial state, a royal government to a democratic republic. By the end of 1945, these political convolutions finally became things of the past. For eighty years, the French worked to seemingly transform Vietnam into a Paris replica, calling it Indochina and taking advantage of all its peoples and resources. Ho Chi Minh declared himself president on September 2 and announced the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (Marr, 1997). Once Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam s Declaration of Independence, he called on the allies to recognize the Vietnamese people s rights to independence and to be a liberated country. However, not long after Vietnam gained their independence did the United States declare war. Although Vietnam was able to withstand a thousand years of Chinese ruling, they suffered enormously during the Vietnam War. However, one has to question who won or lost the Vietnam War. Rust and Huang (2014) aim to explain these phenomena s relationship to advances in IT and to consider the implications of this relationship for marketing science. Much of the drastic transformation of the world s service sector from an industrial to a post industrial service society is due to both the contribution of IT to service and from IT as a service. In other words, the advancement of IT has transformed the nature of service fundamentally (Rust Huang, 2014). IT plays a role of facilitator; as the mobile and networking technology allows the consumers to access various services anywhere at any time, IT facilitates firm to customer, firm to firm, and customer to firm communications online and on mobile devices. Hence, this trend enables application developers to tailor services to fit the needs of each consumer (Rust Huang, 2014). As an application developer aims to satisfy a specific need of the target consumers, the service quality and the satisfaction of the consumers increase. As Figure 1 ... Gun control should only be for criminals they should not take guns away from innocent people. Criminals should not be allowed to carry guns in public as protection because they may harm others, use it for illegal purposes, and with no federal law. Also, by citing this amendment the supreme court had upheld the right of states to govern firearms (Masters). The case was basically about reading the criminal state and made sure that the criminal will not go to prison unless the government proves the requirements (Volokh). Gorsuch and his associates argued that the 10th circuit should have turned the decision that failed around earlier (Volokh). A felon can regain his gun rights under federal law if the state where he got convicted restores four things (Volokh). the first and second ones are his gun rights under state law their right to vote (Volokh). The third and fourth ones are the felons right to serve on a jury their right to hold office (Volokh). Lastly, no criminals should be allowed to carry guns as protection in public. Gun control should only apply to criminals who have used guns as a weapon. One reason that criminals should not be allowed is because they used it to harm another person. Also, a few others would be that they used it illegally or there is no federal law. Of course they have certain restrictions on felons or criminals who have used guns as to harm ... Another visual image that Hughes offers introduces the description of a sore. For example, as Hughes was writing this poem he inquires, Or fester like a sore / and the run? (4 5). The use of sore connotes a painful injury. This simile suggests that both a sore and a dream deferred are both injuries that cause excruciating pain to the human body. The running of the sore refers to infection that takes part in the sore. Hughes similarly compares the infected sore with an infection caused by the dream deferred. • 13. Essay On Stress And Stress The human body is like a car engine. It needs fuels to be powered for it to run, but instead of fuel we need food and nutrients to keep a steady metabolism. If too many calories are consumed (being over 3,500 calories) then those calories turn into adipose or fat. In stressful situations, a person can become inclined to eat more than or less than recommended and this can lead to a change in their weight; for example, the infamous freshmen fifteen. The freshmen fifteen are the common weight gain of college freshmen that is the result of stressful events throughout the first year of school. While not every student can become subjected to this it is a great example of the affects stress can have on an individual. Stress and weight gain can affect any person even adolescents. Stress can influence any individual regardless of age. In a study done (Health and Behavior in Teenagers Study) 4,065 teens had their weight, height, and waist measured. Over five years those teens had their waists and BMI measured and along with their perceived stress (being ranked from low to high). Prior factors were also taken to account; age, sex, and various other factors were added to the measurements. Every year the cohorts were observed for weight gain and it was indicated that the individuals with moderate to high stress levels had been associated with higher BMI and waist circumferences. Later, on 31 January 1915 the first biggest known gas attack was made by Germany to Russia. The generals had calculated over 18,000 shells fired that had contained liquid xylyl bromide tear gas. Because of the cold weather the liquid, instead of vaporizing, froze and did not get the best results for Germany. Ever since then, countries are trying to make better poison gasses and to counter this, countries have to make better, much more efficient gas masks. By 22 April 1915, Germany struck again with poison gas but this time with chlorine. The wind helped get the chlorine to the French territories. The Triple Entente, which is Great Britain, France, Russia claimed that what Germany did was a violation of international law. This process powers the electric motor the fuel cell is made of stacks of fuel cells because a single fuel cell has power similar to a single battery. As fossil fuels are non renewable these fuels are crude oil fossil fuels and have taken years to form, but fuels are used at a faster rate than formed. Furthermore, the combustion of these fuels leads to global warming and climate change caused by greenhouse gases from the combustion. These effects can be solved by using fuel cells as a replacement for fossil fuels. fuel cells have near zero emissions, as fuel cell cars use hydrogen gas as fuel. The hydrogen gas reacts with oxygen from the air, this reaction s end result is electricity and water (Torres, 2014). Essay about The Inadequacy of Paley s Argument from Design The Inadequacy of the Argument from Design William Paley s teleological argument (also known as the argument from design) is an attempt to prove the existence of god. This argument succeeds in proving that while existence was created by an aggregation of forces, to define these forces, as a conscious, rational, and ultimately godlike is dubious. Although the conclusions are valid, the argument makes several logical errors. The teleological argument relies on inductive reasoning, rendering the argument itself valid, but unsound. The argument hinges on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this type of argument is practical at predicting patterns of re occurring events, they are never legitimately sound. Consider the sunrise. It has risen every day for thousands of years on end. Therefore, it will rise tomorrow. Despite the odds of this happening being very high, there is not a one hundred percent chance that it will. Furthermore, consider the existence of the universe itself. Although the odds of life being created by a random amalgamation of forces are very low, the correct combination for life to exist only has to occur once. From that point forward, evolution and a reaction to external stimuli allows life to change naturally. The argument also indulges in an infinite regression. It assumes that a transcendent god created the entire universe. However, it fails to account for what created the god. As stated in the lecture slides, a committee of lesser beings may have created the god, but that begs the question about who created the committee. One could object to this idea and believe that god has always existed, transcending time and reality itself. Once again, however, this logic is just as applicable to the universe. The universe is as capable of existing forever as a god is. William Paley further begs the question in stating that because of perceived complexities in an entity, it must have been designed. Within the United States the only true restriction it states about maternity leave specifically is that a woman who has a vaginally delivery may have at least 6 weeks of leave and a woman who had a cesarean section may have at least 8 weeks of leave. In addition, the US only has four states that has laws in place regarding maternity leave as of 2018, with a fifth state adding laws or regulations in 2019. Instead of specific regulations involving maternity leave the US does have laws enforced to protect a mother s job. Included in these regulations are prohibiting employers declining to hire or promote someone because they are expecting a child, also these regulations do include that a woman can not be fired or demoted because of pregnancy or taking the expected 6 8 weeks leave. It is to the employer s discretion whether to offer paid leave, partial paid leave, or unpaid leave, and even jobs that offer these benefits often have criteria the woman must meet to qualify for any paid leave. In contrast to the United States, Europe has a minimum 14 week leave for new mothers. In addition, to the 14 week minimum Europe has a minimum standard to provide financial assistance during the leave, including 3 main fianincal resorts; social security benefits, paid leave from their employer, public funds. Essay On Three Phase Induction Motor Analysis of Dynamic Performance of Three Phase Induction Motor Using Matlab Simulation Brahmananda Das Department of electrical engineering Koustuv group of institutions Bhubaneswar dasbrahmananda1972@gmail.com Abstract: This paper investigates the dynamic performance of three phase induction motor by vector control method. The vector control algorithm is calculated on Motorola DSP56F80X. The block diagram is shown in figure which describes the structure of implement vector control algorithm. The result obtained is verified using matlab simulation. Initially speed reference is set at120 radian/s and torque taken as 0 nm. Then motor is run, speed, torque and current wave form is taken. Now speed reference changes to 160 radian/s and torque changes to 200nm and correspondence wave form is shown. I observed that it run smoothly over the full speed range, generate full torque at zero speed, and have high dynamic performance including fast acceleration and deceleration. It was originally developed for high performance motor application for industrial drives. However, it is becoming increasingly attractive for lower performance applications as well due to FOC s motor size, cost and power consumption reduction superiority. .. • 35. A Lesson Before Dying, by Ernest J. Gaines Essay While we all would agree that racism is immoral and has no place in a modern society, that was not the case in the U.S. in the 1940s. At the time African Americans were treated as second class citizens, it was made near impossible for them to vote, and they were discriminated in many ways including in education, socially and in employment. It was a time in which segregation and racism perforated the laws and society, a time in which African Americans were separate but equal, segregation was legal and in full force. Apartheid was also everywhere from the books to in society. Blacks were not truly seen as equal as they were seen the the lesser of the two and it very much felt that way. The stance that is taken in the court to criminalize Jefferson is detrimental because they make Jefferson lose his dignity as a man. Jefferson is compared to something that is seen as a rodent, and taking such a stance makes Jefferson lose all the hope that he has. When the defense referred to Jefferson as a boy and not a man, jefferson was being talked down by the side that was supposed to be his own. This a Man? No, not I. I would all it a boy and a fool (Gaines 7). Jefferson is being talked to like a boy, a fool. It is implied that he is inexperienced and he didn t know what he was doing as much as a toddler wouldn t. While the defense was on his side, it referred to him as a fool because of the color of his skin. The defense is making out Jefferson to be an innocent bystander and in the process making jefferson seem to be a manchild. It is not only making Jefferson seem like he was too idiotic to move out of the way, he is also being dehumanized. I would just as soon put a hog in the electric chair as this (Gaines ). When the defense compares Jefferson to a hog, he is saying that Jefferson is just as insignificant. It s dehumanizing in that Jefferson is made out to be an insignificant low life. Jefferson s defence is getting a point across, but it s not the right one because I don t want them to kill no hog, she said. I want a man to go to that chair, on his own two feet. • 36. Genetic Modification Research Paper I am writing to you to explain the problems concerning genetic modification in humans. The field of genetics has come so far in the past decade, and there are currently efforts being made to correct autosomal recessive diseases, such as Hemophilia B.1 I agree that being able to cure diseases, like Hemophilia, is important, but it also means that scientists would be able to create designer humans. The concept of designer genes in human modification reinforces the idea that there is an ideal human which is both ableist and catered strictly to upper class individuals. In this letter, I am expressing my opinion that while advances in genetic engineering are being made, it is important to remember that science should not progress to the point that we are removing all imperfections. ... In a study conducted by Daniel Clay et al., 136 girls from the United Kingdom were exposed to images of ultra thin or average size magazine models.2 It was found that these girls, after being shown said models, had a lowered body satisfaction and, consequently, self esteem. Seeing how people are unsatisfied with their bodies, it might be said that the solution to this issue would be to help people out and edit the genes that encode for these imperfections. • 37. A Brief Biography On The State Of Education A Brief Biography It is interesting to note that one of the most influential educators and researchers of all time was rejected for a professorship position because she was a woman and because she was overqualified (Fraenkel). Much to the benefit of present day curriculum development, the job rejection landed her in a series of positions that would eventually lead to her work with the U.S. Office of Education. Described as a short, squat, and spunky woman, Hilda Taba was notorious for her matter of fact, no nonsense approach in dealing with people (Krull, 481). Born in Estonia, in 1902, she received a German education, and then went on to study in the United States. The combination and the contrast of her two educations would later play an integral role in the formation of her curriculum ideals. Furthermore, her background in science contributed greatly to her scientific model of curriculum development (Hayes, 15). Taba worked closely with some of the most influential curriculum researchers and theorist of the 21st Century, including Benjamin Bloom, Ralph Tyler and John Dewey (Costa, Loveall, 57). In fact, many historical surveys regarding leaders of curriculum development and progressive education commonly refer to Taba as a disciple of Dewey. Learning and Curriculum Over the course of her career, Taba developed many theories regarding learning. In her seminal book, Curriculum Development Theory and Practice (1962), Taba defined knowledge and classified it into three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also a time of increased freedom, where students learn more about themselves and who they are as people. Baxter Magolda s Theory of Self authorship deals with the journey of a person as they define themselves and move from external to internal definition. In the movie, Revenge of the Nerds, many of the characters move through this journey of self authorship. In this paper, we will focus on one of the characters in the movie, and show how he frees himself from the constraints of external definition. We will begin with a brief summary of the movie, and then focus on how Magolda s theory applies to the film. After defeating the jocks in the competition, the nerd house was completely destroyed. Lewis wants to give up, but Gilbert is infuriated and wants to keep fighting. He disregards external opposition and goes to the pep rally to confront the jocks. He makes a speech declaring that he is a nerd and proud. Almost every student, at one point, has participated or will participate in an extracurricular activity, whether it be athletic, academic, artistic, or altruistic. Through these activities, students learn valuable life skills and build friendships that last a lifetime. However, a large amount of students do not receive these numerous benefits as they do not participate in extracurricular activities. For this reason, the principal has decided to mandate at least one extracurricular activity for all students. I strongly agree with this decision because extracurricular activities increase academic performance, keep students out of trouble and improve social and mental health. As the Judge presiding over this case, I vote in the favor of the Plaintiff. Zoom Car Company is responsible for making sure that every part of the vehicle is properly working before placing on the sales lot and/or releasing to a purchaser. Because Zoom Car Company failed to test the compass, they cannot be certain the compass was in fact working at the time of purchase. Zoom Car Company is to pay Mr. Boone s past and future medical expenses and loss of wages and punitive damages in the amount of $ 3, 321, 000 to Mr. Boone. (93) In my personal opinion, Mr. Boone could have been more aware of his surroundings while driving in an unfamiliar area and should not have trusted the compass fully. It was not his fault that the compass was faulty, but as the Defense stated he should have had more common sense and paid better attention to where he was driving. Antony, a noble warrior for the Romans, is the character that seems to have the most trouble between this dichotomy. Cleopatra is the character that stays most true to her roots, but begins adopting the other side s values toward the end of the story. In a contrasting view, Cleopatra s decision to betray Antony twice in battle can also be seen as a Roman action that signifies strong dominance and influence. Although it was a decision that hurt the Romans, she took on the masculine role of the Romans and led them to their loss. When Cleopatra decided to betray Antony, not once but twice, she made a decision that took initiative, leadership, and masculinity that are all characteristics of the Romans. Another way in which Cleopatra expresses this inner dominance is through her power over Antony throughout the entire book. While maybe not seen as a Roman quality at the beginning because Egyptians tend to portray femininity, Cleopatra s actions towards Antony go far beyond femininity and into supremacy. Whether it was through her charm and sexual manipulation to control Antony in his decisions, her persuasive powers to regain his trust and forgiveness after her betrayals, or her structured view on how Antony should treat her, Cleopatra undoubtedly dominated the relationship.
