The And Talent Retention Is Happiness And Workplace...
In any work environment, it is important for all levels of management, including executives and
owners, to consider the working environments for those within the organization or company. The
unofficial secret to longevity and talent retention is happiness and workplace satisfaction. There are
many ways for organizational leaders to promote happy, healthy working environments; the trick is
finding the right combination that works for their particular group of workers and their particular work
environment. Different methods work for different industries and people so it is a matter of trial and
error to find the right fit. There are employment laws in place to ensure fair work practices occur
however, employers should go the extra mile to take care of those who make their business succeed.
According to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (2009), responsibility rests with each
employer to provide and promote a good and harmonious working environment (p. 3). Making sure
workers are happy can only have positive effects for the company but it is a multistep process that
requires commitment from ever manager involved. Coming up with ways to increase worker
satisfaction is only part of the work; implementing these policies and making it come to life is the
challenge and the greatest responsibility. For example, employers creating a diverse environment can
lessen feelings of discrimination. Any opportunity to represent the workers best interest will always

Difference between Community Service and Volunteering
Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Sherry
Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes).
On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just hours
we need to be able to graduate and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community
service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to
his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often
offered to small time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is
the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers ... Show

Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through
the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering).
Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are
the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an
important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students
will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the
schools are getting are Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do! What people are
forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the
government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government
needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they
are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not
perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since
each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was
experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which
the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the

African American Vernacular English Language Essay
African American Vernacular English African American Vernacular English can be described as an
assortment of American English that is mostly used by urban working class and mostly bi dialectical
middle class black Americans. The language is also commonly known as Black Vernacular English or
Black English. In some cases, particularly outside the academic community, it is referred to as
Ebonics given its distinctive features and similarities with other non standard English varieties. The
similarities with other varieties are evident when compared to various standard and non standard
English languages that are commonly used in the United States and the Caribbean. In the past few
years, African American Vernacular English has been the subject of various public debates and
attracted considerable attention among sociolinguists. This paper examines the development of this
language, its distinctive features, cultural context, and socio economic implications of the use of
African American Vernacular English.
Roots of African American Vernacular English The history and origin of African American Vernacular
English and other varieties associated with it has been an issue of increased controversy (Sidnell, n.d.).
However, the roots of this language were undoubtedly established in the rural South whereas its 20th
Century development as a socio cultural variety is strongly linked to its use in non Southern urban
regions. In essence, the emergence of urban Black English is a

Research Paper On Partition Of India
The Partition of India was the partition of the British Indian Empire that gave birth to the two
independent and sovereign states of the Dominion of Pakistan which was later split into the Islamic
Republic of Pakistan and the People s Republic of Bangladesh and the Union of India later Republic
of India on 15 August 1947. Partition here refers not only refers to the segregation of two nations, but
also to the respective divisions of other assets of army and navy, valuable minerals in central treasury
and other administrative possessions of the respective countries. This partition has been termed as the
largest human migration in history to have ever taken place. That being said it also has paid the price
of loss of lives which are innumerable, from being 200,000 to 500,000 recorded deaths and 14 million
Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims being displaced from this partition. ... Show more content on

Indeed, the Partition of India and Pakistan, a decision made by lawmakers far from the front lines,
unleashed an episode of brutal depravity that might be unmatched in recent history. Growing tensions
between Hindus and Muslims throughout the 1940s gave a ride for the desire for a Muslim state.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who is regarded as the father of Pakistan, believed that a unified nation would
only lead to marginalization of Muslims and, eventually, violence and civil war. An independent state
seemed a solution to this danger. However looking at the grave situation of Pakistan today, was this a
good decision or not is a highly debatable point of discussion running past the minds of

Santa Clause Argument
Santa Claus
This passage presents a discussion about arguments concerning the existence of Santa Claus. This is
an important debate for children everywhere because of the Christmas spirit that Santa Claus instills in
them. The two positions argue whether or not Santa Claus exists or not. Both viewpoints have valid
claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence indicates that Santa Claus is only imaginary.
In contrast, opposing evidence suggests that he is real. While both sides of the issue have valid points,
the claim that Santa Claus exists is the stronger supported, the position supported by a preponderance
of the evidence cited in the passages. The most convincing and forceful reasons in support of this
position are that he lives in a unseeable world, he is what brings joy to Christmas, and those who do
not believe in him are only skeptics. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be
discussed next. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In support of this point, a great amount of the universe cannot be seen, and because of this, it is likely
that Santa Claus lives in that portion of the universe. In addition, if this part of the universe is
invisible, then there is no clout to the claim that he does not exist only because he cannot be seen.
Consequently, this is evidence in support of the case that there is a Santa Claus. The second relevant
point to make is support of the claim that Santa Claus does indeed exist is that he is what brings joy to
Christmas. For example, if there were no Santa Clause, Christmas would be as normal a time of year
as any. But, since Christmas is the most joyous and happy time of year, it proves that there is a
difference here. Additionally, there would be a far less joy at Christmas if there was no Santa Claus. In
short, the joy and festiveness of Christmas proves that there is a Santa

The Effects Of The Civil War And The Woods Of Ashokan
The civil war was an important event in the history. During and after the civil war, the natural world
provided calmness and peace from the ongoing events. Many artists tried to portray the effects of the
civil war through their paintings. One such artist was Thomas Worthington Whittredge. Whittredge
worked during the same time period as the civil war. All of his paintings are naturalistic and realistic.
One such painting was Woods of Ashokan, which was created by Whittredge after the conclusion of
the civil war. Thomas Worthington Whittredge was an American artist who was skilled in doing
landscape paintings. Whittredge traveled to Europe and attended the Dusseldorf Academy, which was
a prominent art school, to further his artistic training. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Woods of Ashokan shows the depths of forests and gives the viewers a sense of calmness
and peace. Woods of Ashokan was created in 1870, a time during which impressionism was on the rise
in Europe. However, the Hudson River School artists had a desire to become independent of the
European schools of painting. Woods of Ashokan shows an upstate New York forest surrounded by
trees, a stream, and a bird sitting on a fallen tree. The sky is dark, but sunshine can still be seen far
away. The color palette used in this painting contains shades of yellow, olive, orange, and brown,
which are the colors of autumn. The colors in this painting increase in brightness with distance. The
medium of this painting is oil paint on canvas. This painting contains atmospheric perspective, unity, a
focal point, and a vanishing point. The atmospheric perspective in this painting makes the trees get
small and hazy as the distance increases. In addition, atmospheric perspective is also noticed when the
water in the stream reflects the forest colors. This painting has unity since all the trees and the color of
the leaves have similar characteristics, with no variety. The fallen tree with the

Analysis Of Elif Shafak s The Gaze
The use of stylistic writing that Elif Shafak utilizes in the text of The Gaze contributes to a deeper
understanding of the novel. By incorporating the idea of circular connectivity into the text. Shafak is
able to convey the great significance of circles as a form of correspondence in her fictional writing.
Through the various different stories that are intertwined within the novel, Shafak merges the ideas
and events within the text, essentially bringing them into full completion. This writing style using
circular transition proves to be purposeful by conveying the idea that there is no beginning, nor an end
and wherever one does start, it all comes together once it is complete, similar to a circle. For instance,

When balloons are first presented in the main protagonist s dream, they are not recognized as holding
much significance. However, the main protagonist s want to become a balloon and fly away can
connect back to her childhood. For example, while the little girl, who is revealed to be the main
protagonist, watches an episode of Tom and Jerry where Jerry had become a balloon and was starting
to rise , she eats profusely (225). The mouse, Jerry , had become a balloon by drinking a jug of milk
and becoming bloated. This conveys a reason for the main protagonist s excessive eating. The
protagonist concludes that just as Jerry became a balloon from becoming bloated, she could as well.
The idea of the protagonist s excessive eating habits being related to the Tom and Jerry episode
provides yet another reason for her gluttonous nature. Also, perhaps B C s comment that the
protagonist would least likely fit in above the clouds by suggesting, for someone as fat as you the sky
has to be the most unlikely place encourages her to dream of being like a balloon (240). Or, in a
contrasting reality, B C s Gaze Dictionary entry about the protagonist that she beholds encourages her
final transition into becoming a balloon . An immense hunger resounds in the protagonist because of
her breakup with B C, and she admits that she has never been this hungry before (248). To satisfy her
hunger, she opens her mouth to consume the atmosphere, which was the gas, in order to satisfy her
hunger. She is inflated by the gas and becomes a balloon, being able to float into the air just like she
dreams of. However, the reality is that she does not really become inflated at all. Still, this connection
of ideas brings the text to full completion using yet another aspect. This proves the stylistic writing
choice that Shafak chooses to utilize emphasizes the

Research that Adapts Information Retrieval Based on a User...
As the number of Internet users and the number of accessible Web pages grows, it is becoming
increasingly difficult for users to find relevant documents to their particular needs. In this paper, we
report on research that adapts information retrieval based on a user profile. Ontology models are
widely used to represent user profiles in personalized web information retrieval. Many models have

Many researchers have attempted to discover user background knowledge through global or local
analysis to represent user profiles.
i) Motivation
The basic objective regarding this project is to achieve high performance in web information retrieval
using a personalized ontology model. Most of the times when user searches for some information with
some ideas in mind , It is always the case that he didn t get the information exactly as he wants in first
page . He has to go through different pages until he get the information exactly as per his concept. The
basic idea is to create ontological user profiles from both a world knowledge base and user local
instance repositories in order to have a fast information retrieval as per the concept model of the user.
ii) Existing systems
Commonly used knowledge bases include generic ontologies, thesauruses, and online knowledge
bases. The global analysis produce effective performance for user background knowledge extraction
but it is limited by the quality of the used knowledge base. Local analysis investigates user local
information or observes user behavior in user profiles. Analyzed query logs to discover user
background knowledge is used. Users were provided with a set of documents and asked for relevance
feedback. User background knowledge was then discovered from this feedback for user profiles. The
discovered results may contain noisy and uncertain information.

Analysis Of The Movie Ironweed By William Kennedy
As a former newspaperman turned American Writer, William Kennedy is known for writing novels in
which incidents and historic movements of his birthplace Albany, New York, are featured. One of
Kennedy s most well known pieces of literature, Ironweed (1983), is the third book in Kennedy s
Albany cycle. Taking place during the Great Depression, the story of Ironweed s protagonist Francis
Phelan, a once major league third baseman, murderer of three, and a drunk, is depicted. Residing in
Albany with his family, a freak accident tore Francis 13 day old son, Gerald, away from him.
Tormented by that horrific event, Francis fled from his family and the ties to the event, being forced to
wander the streets, seeking both nourishment and appeasement from the overbearing guilt plaguing his
soul. After twenty two years of perpetually chasing away his damaged soul, with outbursts of lethal
violence, ignoring all responsibilities and opportunity for honest work; after surviving
malnourishment, frigid temperatures, and alcoholism, Francis finally found rock bottom. At this
realization, Francis decides to return to Albany with hopes of reconciling his actions of the past, and to
rekindle the relationship he once held with his family. His inner thoughts of himself are of disgust,
calling himself a sinner, and one undeserving of happiness. It is for that reason and the years of
running away from himself that Francis finds difficulty in revealing his vulnerable side, often pushing

The Civil Rights Movement In Pan-Africanism And Black Power
Black power is the result of provoking a century s worth of submission, struggle and suffering. For
many, America was considered divided between the whites and blacks, which caused protest from the
African Americans due to the racial inequality. For the past century, blacks have led passive protest
with little or no change to their well being. Black power aims to change that, one of their core
ideology is that Blacks must unite without the help of whites to face racism while not standing idle
and using any means necessary. Black power stems from the influences of Pan Africanism and Black
empowerment while also going against the core ideas present in Civil Rights Movement like the
nonviolence movement. The Black power protesters wanted separation from the whites which is
similar to the Pan Africanism movement proposed by Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey is an advocate
for black nationalism and was a leader in the Pan Africanism movement. Marcus supported the idea of
going Back to Africa which was what the Pan Africanism movement was all about. Garvey even
founded a steamship company called Black Star Line with black officers and crew. Comparatively,
Black Power also has a strong stance on the Back to Africa as Bayard Rustin says in Black Power and
Coalition Politics, ...Negroes are once again turning to nationalistic slogans, with black power
affording the same emotional release as Back to Africa ... did in earlier periods of frustration and
hopelessness . This shows

Ipsilateral Knee Injury Essay
1.1 Background
Concomitant knee injuries and knee pain associated with lower limb fractures often stay undetected,
or are inadequately addressed in fracture treatment plans, which then attributes to poor treatment
outcomes. [1,2,3] The treatment of choice for tibial shaft fractures is intramedullary (IM) nailing.[4]
After placing an IM nail during surgery, the ROM of the ipsilateral knee joint can be compromised
due to pain, undetected ligamental, meniscal injuries, or the positioning of the IM tibial nail itself.
[2,5,6,7] Although knee pain has been announced the most frequent complication of IM nailing, often
times these instabilities are overlooked during emergency surgical care and remain unaddressed in
post surgical management. [3,8] Long term follow up studies on anterior knee pain described
incidental rates between 10 and 83 percent among patients. [1,5,9,10] It has also been stated that the
high incidence of knee pain after IM nailing is of multifactorial origin.[1,8,11] ... Show more content

These mechanisms can lead to ligamentous injuries in the ipsilateral knee, such as impairment to the
cruciate ligaments or the lateral and medial collateral ligament. These injuries are very common in
cases of open and closed lower limp fractures. [2,3,6,9] Furthermore, the presence of a nail and/or its
protrusion thru the tibial plateau has been recognized as a significant cause of anterior knee pain.
[10,11,12]
We are investigating, whether concomitant ligamental knee injuries generally stay undetected upon
admission, or develop through surgical intervention and treatment plans. For that reason, we try to
correlate ligamentous integrity, range of motion and IM nail size to possible knee injuries and

Civil Rights in Colored People by Henry Louis Gates
Henry Louis Gates admiration and following of great civil rights movement leaders, including his
mother, seems to show that he has an optimistic position on history and social change in his book
Colored People . Throughout the beginning chapters he is shown growing up noticing the contract
between his mother s view and the rest of the Colemans. She would stand up to white people. He
admired her spark and vitality, whished to grow up in a world where he can see his mother treated
with the respect she deserves. Freedom from the chains of segregation was his goal, most notably his
adventures during his college years. He was dating a white girl and was also going to extreme lengths
to make sure Piedmont becomes unsegregated. Growing up he sees the flame within his mother
diminishing. This occurrence doesn t phase his determination, the contrary; he decides to resurrect his
mother s passion. He attempts that by helping his father buy her a house, since she always wanted to
own property. He seems to also believe that the arc of history curves, no matter how many curves it
takes it, towards justice. He at least did throughout his adolescence years.
However, in the big scheme of history, it seems that his view is not as one dimensional as readers
would expect. Gate s book reveals to us how history can be ironic in the form of a shocking change of
tone in the concluding chapters. He doesn t imply that history is approaching its doom because of our
actions, it is simply pointing

Fieldwork in Various Anthropological Schools of Thought Essay
Cultural anthropology is a social science that studies the origins and development of human societies
(History World International, 2001). Many theories to explain cultural variations among humans have
emerged. As a result, numerous anthropological schools of thought have been established based on
these theories since the nineteenth century. These schools of thought encompass the dominant beliefs
about culture during a time period and are constantly changing as new knowledge is acquired. As
schools of thought develop, ethnographic methods have changed and developed as well. Fieldwork is
an ethnographic method that has been implemented in all anthropological schools of thought. It
involves gathering data and information about a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, scholars, like Lewis Henry Morgan, did their own fieldwork to study and
understand societies. However, scientific methods for collecting data were not developed until decades
later. As a result, Morgan s studies have been criticized for being too vast and superficial, as well as
having fundamental errors in the interpretation of the data (Tooker, 1992). Ethnographic methods
during this time were basic at best and were of little concern to the cultural evolutionists. Franz Boas
was one of the first anthropologists to reject the theories of the cultural evolutionists in the beginning
of the twentieth century (History World International, 2001). Although he recognized the role of
evolution in ancestry, he found the theories of the cultural evolutionists to be scientifically unfounded.
Instead, he pioneered historical particularism, the first American born anthropological school. This
school emphasized the individuality of a society and, therefore, to examine it one must look at the
cultures environmental, psychological, and, most importantly, historical circumstances (McGee
Warms, 2008). With the creation of a new school and his background in physical science, Boas
stressed the importance of ethnographic fieldwork for the first time. McGee and Warms (2008) state
that Boas advocated a four field perspective that included studying prehistory, linguistics, and physical

I Am A Cripple By Nancy Mairs
I AM a Cripple When my older sister, Molly, was ten years old, she was a temporary cripple. Molly
went through a pretty big surgery that would stop her from tripping over her pigeon toed legs. While
living a couple months in her wheelchair, an uncle of ours came to visit. His warm welcome to my
sister was pushing her into a corner, locking her wheelchair, and calling her a windowlicker.
Thankfully, my sister has tough skin. She took what others would find scarring, all as a joke. It is hard

her feelings of being a cripple. The narrator uses Tiny Tim from the story A Christmas Carol by
Charles Dickens to portray her emotions about being a cripple when others thoughts and opinions are

her as sometimes she ends up feeling like Tiny Tim, peering over the edge of the table at the
Christmas goose, waving my crutch, piping down God s blessing on us all (Mairs). Tiny Tim is a
character in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, who is disabled. Even though he is a cripple, he is

Advantages Of Commuting
Many people must or choose to commute to school on a weekly basis for a variety of reasons. Before
the school year begins, students must make the choice of whether or not they want to live on campus
or commute. Commuting does not necessarily have to do with going to school, but commuting is
commonly seen for going to school or work. I had to decide whether or not to commute before my
Fall semester started, and picking was a tough choice because I live quite far from the college campus;
however, I chose to commute for various reasons and it was the right decision. People who commute
far distances, usually complain about the annoyances that come with commuting, and some of these
people will choose to move closer even though they were originally at driving distance; however, most
people who commute chose to continue commuting for as long as possible anyways. Dorming and
living on campus is much more convenient, but commuting to college, if possible, is much better since
commuting is cheaper, anyone can do it, family reasons, and of course much more comfortable.
Commuting may be tough in the morning since a commuter must wake up, and begin traveling early,
but at the end of the year a commuter would save much more money. Most people choose to commute
because of money and Free housing, food and laundry. Living at home means you save a lot of money,
which can help you down the line when you want to move out on your own (Callahan, Confessions of

Entrepreneurial Intention
Literature Review Nowadays the trend of world is increasing towards the entrepreneurship because it
is responsible for generating jobs, economic growth and prosperity of the society through innovation
activities (Shane and Venkataraman, 2000; Galloway and Brown, 2002). For that, developing
individual s intention towards entrepreneurship and what are the factors that are responsible to divert
the mind of people is central problems in the entrepreneurship research (Autio et al 2001; Francis et
al. 2004; Kaijun and Sholihah, 2015). The entrepreneurial intention is a commitment to twitch a new
business (Krueger, 1993; Autio et al., 2001). In the regions of British and Spain investigated by Linan,
Nabi and Krueger (2013) that enhancing the level of knowledge and awareness about entrepreneurship
would increase self efficacy perceptions and hence entrepreneurial intentions. No significant
relationship between entrepreneurial intention and self efficacy was noticed by (Owoseni and
Olakitan, 2014). Likewise, motivation, achievement and entrepreneurial intentions were found

Traditional Families In The 1800s
Families in History
There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several
centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within
a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. The
biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth
century. (Coontz 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate and not included
as part of a family household. Over time the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a
husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging
ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent
homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Childhood was not considered a special time for development but rather a hurdle on the way to
adulthood. The goal was to get children speaking, reading, reasoning, and contributing to their family
s economic well being as quickly as possible. (Mintz 50) Many kids as young as six were working
outside of the home at the time. A cultural revolution began in the eighteenth century when many
middle class parents began to relish in their children s innocence and saw this a time to nurture mold
their children. As this form of parenting became the norm many parents began to have less children by
using birth control, thus giving the fewer children they had more of their attention. As time progressed
kids spent more time going to school rather than to work. Within the last 3 centuries Societal views
about methods of Child rearing, the nature of children s play, the ideal duration of schooling, the
participation of young people in work, and the demarcation points between childhood, adolescence,
and adulthood have shifted significantly. (Mintz

Analysis Of Literary Analysis In Ulysses By Lord Alfred...
Literature and poetry in particular have the potential to make profound impressions on their readers. In
the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson, the speaker Ulysses argues for his mariners to come back
out to sea. Karen Prior s article How Reading Makes Us More Human argues how reading makes one
more human. On the other hand, Tennyson makes his argument through Ulysses, as he talks to his
mariners while Prior makes her argument to teachers of higher of education. While Tennyson and
Prior both use rhetorical situations to persuade their audiences, Prior connects to her audience better
by citing compelling and exhaustive research, eliciting sympathy from her audience through her
narrative voice, and establishing her credibility by using personal examples and research. Prior s uses
captivating evidence in her article in order to persuade the audience that reading makes one more
human. For example, Prior takes research from psychologists from York University and University of
Toronto which states [people] who read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people,
empathize with them and view the world from their perspective (para. 2). With the use of notable
research, the reader starts to question if reading does make one more human. Prior then goes on to use
research done by the director of the Center for Reading and Language Research. The director
Maryanne Wolf states, the fragility of the brain s ability to read with the kind of sustained attention

The Influence Of Rome On Today s Legal System
The Roman Empire was a vast and powerful one. Stretching from modern day Spain to the Middle
East, and reaching from Britain to the northern tips of Africa, this empire was certainly one of the
largest empires in history. Their strength was also evident in the fact that the Empire lasted over 500
years. Control of such a large area of land and the Mediterranean Sea allowed for the spread of their
Roman culture. Although the Roman Empire and Republic no longer exist today, the ideas and designs
of ancient Rome live on in our modern day art, law, engineering, languages, and literature. The largest
daily influence of Rome appears in the words people speak (Burgan, par. 19 and 20). Latin is
considered a dead language but its words are still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Renaissance, artists moved away from Christian ideas and turned to the topics from Greek
and Roman mythology to create their masterpieces. Just like the Romans did with their paintings and
mosaics, Renaissance artists began to paint images that would be seen on an ordinary day (Burgan par.
13). The Renaissance was greatly influenced by Roman artwork. Renaissance artists used techniques
and ideas from Roman art to create their own masterpieces. We still use Roman art today in teachings
and as an example of classical art. Lastly, ancient Roman engineering has still survived in the
technology of today s world. The engineering successes of Rome are still around today. We use the
technology designed by Romans to make some of our technology today. Some of the roads that the
Romans built are still standing today. Rome made many roads, bridges, stadia, public buildings, and

Homoeroticism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Wilde s sexuality and effeminate nature shaped his relations to the natural beauty of the world, which
in turn manifested itself in the moral implications of his now famous works. For example, his very
own personal ordeals are envisaged through the passages of The Picture of Dorian Gray, and it has
been passionately hypothesized that characters such as Basil, Dorian, and Lord Henry are personalities
of Wilde s own flamboyant character. In an interpretation written by Donald H Ericksen, Wilde had
written the following: Basil in how I see myself, Lord Henry how the world sees me and Dorian how I
would like to be . The discussions surrounding The Picture of Dorian Gray were linked to the
egregious homoeroticism displayed through the synergy of Wilde s characters and how they interacted
with each other. In a time of irrational Victorian thinking, it comes as no surprise that Wilde s writing
had evoked such a backlash. For people during the Victorian period, Wilde s male characters and the
relationships in which they maintained were more than abundantly suggestive to enable thoughts of
disgust in even the most tolerant of people. Wilde s own sexual orientation laid out for the reader just
how these relationships were assembled. In the opening of The Picture of Dorian Gray, ... Show more

that the sexuality lies less in the content , but rather in the subjectivity... in the relationship between

the denunciation of Oscar Wilde, and to the overwhelming amount of investigation used to examine

The Beat Generation In Jitterbug Perfume By Tom Robbin
The Beat Generation an inspiration to many
The beat generation was a movement that sought to oppose American society values, and any sort of
control. They explored Eastern religions, was somewhat postmodernism, rejected the materialistic
culture, spoke about drugs, our conscious mind, and fought for sexual liberation and exploration with
their unapologetically offensive language. While reading the novel Jitterbug Perfume written by Tom
Robbin, one can witness how the novel exhibits aspects of the beat literature, and thus concluding that
the beat generation served as inspiration to Tom Robbin.
The beat generation was focused on expanding the conscious mind, whether it was with the use of
drugs, Yoga, meditation, and most commonly the use of spiritual eastern religion. According to the
article, The Beat Generation and Buddhist Religion , the beat generation believed that Eastern
spirituality provided a better pathway leading toward ecstasy rather than spiritual stagnation and
suffocation. (Chandler 316) Daniel Ross Chandler also states that,
The Beat Generation comprised a vanguard signaling a significant shift occurring in contemporary
American religious consciousness; this dramatic change was confirmed by a rejection of institutional
religion... and an affirmation attesting that fresh spiritual insights are discovered through mystical
experience, hallucinogenic drugs, and eastern religion. (Chandler 313)
Salas 2
The Beats movement changed the thoughts of the youth because they introduced a new form of
thinking with this new form of religion that drastically differs from Christianity. They changed the
culture of America. Tom Robbin must have been influenced with this new shift in religion that the beat
movement caused in America because while reading the novel you notice the repetitive mention of the
mystical religion in ancient India. Alobar explained a religion he stumbled upon while traveling, and
Kudra would say how that religion resembled her own Indian religion. You witness Alobar describing
this ancient Indian religion in the sentence, they obtain their ideal through gradual stages of spiritual
progress. And their ordeal is neither immortality nor longevity, but release from the

Essay about My Personal Praxis Statement
My Personal Praxis Statement
As a college student, I often find myself inundated with work. To make it worse, these assignments
usually are uninteresting and irrelevant. It is in the midst of these tedious exercises that I begin to
wonder whether all of this work is worth it. When this issue creeps into my mind, I think back to my
reasons for choosing to pursue this profession. When I started college, I knew that I could not function
in a typical nine to five job. The banality and predictability of such a career simply did not appeal to
me. So that essentially ruled out any course of study which would lead to such an occupation. I also

interesting and enlightening. What follows is my interpretation of the teaching profession. It details
the methodological and ideological frameworks that I would use to construct a learning experience
that is meaningful for students.
When looking back on high school, I realize that I typically learned more from teachers who made
their classes interesting. By doing so, these educators utilized student interest as method of building a
desire to learn. They camouflaged learning in the colors of discussion, making it seem as though we
simply were carrying on a normal discourse. But each class inevitably resulted in the acquisition of a
better understanding of the subject material. As a student, I found myself wanting to go to these
classes. The teachers who conducted these courses made education seem enjoyable and thus created in
students a desire to engage in further learning. As a future educator, I would like my class to operate in
a similar manner. I want my class to be one that students look forward to attending. Mine will be an
intellectually open classroom environment one in which

Human Cloning
Ethical Concerns on Human Cloning Human cloning, one of the most fascinating chapters in scientific
history. Cloning goes back to the first mammal that was successfully cloned, Dolly the sheep. Dolly
was duplicated on July 5, 1996 and since then the world has had many scientific advancements. Abby
Norman, author of How Close Are We to Successfully Cloning our First Human said that other types
of mammals such as goats, rats, pigs, mice, and rabbits have been cloned successfully but cloning
other mammals and primates may not be so easy. Scientists are not yet able to successfully clone a
human, but believe they will be able to do so by the 2020s. (Norman) Along with such a controversial
topic there comes many who would agree that copying a human would be beneficial while on the
opposing side some would argue that replicating someone s genes is ethically wrong. Cloning is a very
important topic and according to the President s Council on Bioethics, The prospect of cloning to
produce children, which would be a radically new form of procreation, raises deep concerns about
identity and individuality, the meaning of having children, the difference between procreation and
manufacture, and the relationship between the generations ( Human Cloning and Human Dignity: An
Ethical Inquiry , 2017). Although useful for studying genetic diseases, human cloning produces issues
as to whether it should be allowed or not because some believe the copy will have the same

A sociological portrait serves to illuminate one s life and show how their identity and experience in
life or an aspect of life has been shaped by the micro environment factors. These factors could be
social class, ethnicity, race, and gender among others. Each of these environmental factors plays a
critical role in determining one s identity. For instance, one s family experience is largely determined
by the factors that surround them. Being a girl might result in having a different family experience,
depending on specific cultures. Also, one s race might influence the way their families act or conduct

First, gender influences the roles that Mary is expected to undertake in the society. Given that she is a
lady, the role of the breadwinner is left for her father. She is expected in contributing towards ensuring
that her little sister Ann stays grounded and behaves in a respectful and expected manner. In the
family, Mary is expected to take a role in helping out in domestic duties. Together with her sister, she
is expected to help out in house chores. Such roles reinforce the traditional gender roles that women
are required to undertake. They serve to indicate the stereotypical assumptions that women are
supposed to take on the domestic house chores such as cooking and cleaning while the boys undertake
the more interesting duties or wait around to be served (Lindsey, 2015). Essentially, it ties down the
women as indicated by the role that Mary s mother has taken in the household. While her father takes
on the important task of being a breadwinner and has a job, Mary s mother remains at home to cater
for the family. This is a communication enough to Mary and her sister that the women rank slightly

  • 2. The And Talent Retention Is Happiness And Workplace... In any work environment, it is important for all levels of management, including executives and owners, to consider the working environments for those within the organization or company. The unofficial secret to longevity and talent retention is happiness and workplace satisfaction. There are many ways for organizational leaders to promote happy, healthy working environments; the trick is finding the right combination that works for their particular group of workers and their particular work environment. Different methods work for different industries and people so it is a matter of trial and error to find the right fit. There are employment laws in place to ensure fair work practices occur however, employers should go the extra mile to take care of those who make their business succeed. According to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (2009), responsibility rests with each employer to provide and promote a good and harmonious working environment (p. 3). Making sure workers are happy can only have positive effects for the company but it is a multistep process that requires commitment from ever manager involved. Coming up with ways to increase worker satisfaction is only part of the work; implementing these policies and making it come to life is the challenge and the greatest responsibility. For example, employers creating a diverse environment can lessen feelings of discrimination. Any opportunity to represent the workers best interest will always win their ... • 3. Difference between Community Service and Volunteering Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just hours we need to be able to graduate and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the schools are getting are Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do! What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. African American Vernacular English Language Essay African American Vernacular English African American Vernacular English can be described as an assortment of American English that is mostly used by urban working class and mostly bi dialectical middle class black Americans. The language is also commonly known as Black Vernacular English or Black English. In some cases, particularly outside the academic community, it is referred to as Ebonics given its distinctive features and similarities with other non standard English varieties. The similarities with other varieties are evident when compared to various standard and non standard English languages that are commonly used in the United States and the Caribbean. In the past few years, African American Vernacular English has been the subject of various public debates and attracted considerable attention among sociolinguists. This paper examines the development of this language, its distinctive features, cultural context, and socio economic implications of the use of African American Vernacular English. Roots of African American Vernacular English The history and origin of African American Vernacular English and other varieties associated with it has been an issue of increased controversy (Sidnell, n.d.). Research Paper On Partition Of India The Partition of India was the partition of the British Indian Empire that gave birth to the two independent and sovereign states of the Dominion of Pakistan which was later split into the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People s Republic of Bangladesh and the Union of India later Republic of India on 15 August 1947. Partition here refers not only refers to the segregation of two nations, but also to the respective divisions of other assets of army and navy, valuable minerals in central treasury and other administrative possessions of the respective countries. This partition has been termed as the largest human migration in history to have ever taken place. That being said it also has paid the price of loss of lives which are innumerable, from being 200,000 to 500,000 recorded deaths and 14 million Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims being displaced from this partition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, the Partition of India and Pakistan, a decision made by lawmakers far from the front lines, unleashed an episode of brutal depravity that might be unmatched in recent history. Growing tensions between Hindus and Muslims throughout the 1940s gave a ride for the desire for a Muslim state. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who is regarded as the father of Pakistan, believed that a unified nation would only lead to marginalization of Muslims and, eventually, violence and civil war. An independent state seemed a solution to this danger. However looking at the grave situation of Pakistan today, was this a good decision or not is a highly debatable point of discussion running past the minds of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Santa Clause Argument Santa Claus This passage presents a discussion about arguments concerning the existence of Santa Claus. This is an important debate for children everywhere because of the Christmas spirit that Santa Claus instills in them. The two positions argue whether or not Santa Claus exists or not. Both viewpoints have valid claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence indicates that Santa Claus is only imaginary. In contrast, opposing evidence suggests that he is real. While both sides of the issue have valid points, the claim that Santa Claus exists is the stronger supported, the position supported by a preponderance of the evidence cited in the passages. The most convincing and forceful reasons in support of this position are that he lives in a unseeable world, he is what brings joy to Christmas, and those who do not believe in him are only skeptics. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be discussed next. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In support of this point, a great amount of the universe cannot be seen, and because of this, it is likely that Santa Claus lives in that portion of the universe. In addition, if this part of the universe is invisible, then there is no clout to the claim that he does not exist only because he cannot be seen. Consequently, this is evidence in support of the case that there is a Santa Claus. The second relevant point to make is support of the claim that Santa Claus does indeed exist is that he is what brings joy to Christmas. For example, if there were no Santa Clause, Christmas would be as normal a time of year as any. But, since Christmas is the most joyous and happy time of year, it proves that there is a difference here. Additionally, there would be a far less joy at Christmas if there was no Santa Claus. In short, the joy and festiveness of Christmas proves that there is a Santa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During and after the civil war, the natural world provided calmness and peace from the ongoing events. Many artists tried to portray the effects of the civil war through their paintings. One such artist was Thomas Worthington Whittredge. Whittredge worked during the same time period as the civil war. All of his paintings are naturalistic and realistic. One such painting was Woods of Ashokan, which was created by Whittredge after the conclusion of the civil war. Similarly, Woods of Ashokan shows the depths of forests and gives the viewers a sense of calmness and peace. Woods of Ashokan was created in 1870, a time during which impressionism was on the rise in Europe. However, the Hudson River School artists had a desire to become independent of the European schools of painting. Woods of Ashokan shows an upstate New York forest surrounded by trees, a stream, and a bird sitting on a fallen tree. The sky is dark, but sunshine can still be seen far away. The color palette used in this painting contains shades of yellow, olive, orange, and brown, which are the colors of autumn. The colors in this painting increase in brightness with distance. The medium of this painting is oil paint on canvas. This painting contains atmospheric perspective, unity, a focal point, and a vanishing point. The atmospheric perspective in this painting makes the trees get small and hazy as the distance increases. In addition, atmospheric perspective is also noticed when the water in the stream reflects the forest colors. • 9. Analysis Of Elif Shafak s The Gaze The use of stylistic writing that Elif Shafak utilizes in the text of The Gaze contributes to a deeper understanding of the novel. By incorporating the idea of circular connectivity into the text. Shafak is able to convey the great significance of circles as a form of correspondence in her fictional writing. Through the various different stories that are intertwined within the novel, Shafak merges the ideas and events within the text, essentially bringing them into full completion. This writing style using circular transition proves to be purposeful by conveying the idea that there is no beginning, nor an end and wherever one does start, it all comes together once it is complete, similar to a circle. For instance, when considering the scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When balloons are first presented in the main protagonist s dream, they are not recognized as holding much significance. However, the main protagonist s want to become a balloon and fly away can connect back to her childhood. For example, while the little girl, who is revealed to be the main protagonist, watches an episode of Tom and Jerry where Jerry had become a balloon and was starting to rise , she eats profusely (225). The mouse, Jerry , had become a balloon by drinking a jug of milk and becoming bloated. This conveys a reason for the main protagonist s excessive eating. The protagonist concludes that just as Jerry became a balloon from becoming bloated, she could as well. The idea of the protagonist s excessive eating habits being related to the Tom and Jerry episode provides yet another reason for her gluttonous nature. Also, perhaps B C s comment that the protagonist would least likely fit in above the clouds by suggesting, for someone as fat as you the sky has to be the most unlikely place encourages her to dream of being like a balloon (240). Or, in a contrasting reality, B C s Gaze Dictionary entry about the protagonist that she beholds encourages her final transition into becoming a balloon . An immense hunger resounds in the protagonist because of her breakup with B C, and she admits that she has never been this hungry before (248). To satisfy her hunger, she opens her mouth to consume the atmosphere, which was the gas, in order to satisfy her hunger. She is inflated by the gas and becomes a balloon, being able to float into the air just like she dreams of. However, the reality is that she does not really become inflated at all. Still, this connection of ideas brings the text to full completion using yet another aspect. This proves the stylistic writing choice that Shafak chooses to utilize emphasizes the ... As the number of Internet users and the number of accessible Web pages grows, it is becoming increasingly difficult for users to find relevant documents to their particular needs. • 11. Analysis Of The Movie Ironweed By William Kennedy As a former newspaperman turned American Writer, William Kennedy is known for writing novels in which incidents and historic movements of his birthplace Albany, New York, are featured. One of Kennedy s most well known pieces of literature, Ironweed (1983), is the third book in Kennedy s Albany cycle. Taking place during the Great Depression, the story of Ironweed s protagonist Francis Phelan, a once major league third baseman, murderer of three, and a drunk, is depicted. Residing in Albany with his family, a freak accident tore Francis 13 day old son, Gerald, away from him. Tormented by that horrific event, Francis fled from his family and the ties to the event, being forced to wander the streets, seeking both nourishment and appeasement from the overbearing guilt plaguing his soul. After twenty two years of perpetually chasing away his damaged soul, with outbursts of lethal violence, ignoring all responsibilities and opportunity for honest work; after surviving malnourishment, frigid temperatures, and alcoholism, Francis finally found rock bottom. At this realization, Francis decides to return to Albany with hopes of reconciling his actions of the past, and to rekindle the relationship he once held with his family. His inner thoughts of himself are of disgust, calling himself a sinner, and one undeserving of happiness. It is for that reason and the years of running away from himself that Francis finds difficulty in revealing his vulnerable side, often pushing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Civil Rights Movement In Pan-Africanism And Black Power Black power is the result of provoking a century s worth of submission, struggle and suffering. For many, America was considered divided between the whites and blacks, which caused protest from the African Americans due to the racial inequality. For the past century, blacks have led passive protest with little or no change to their well being. Black power aims to change that, one of their core ideology is that Blacks must unite without the help of whites to face racism while not standing idle and using any means necessary. Black power stems from the influences of Pan Africanism and Black empowerment while also going against the core ideas present in Civil Rights Movement like the nonviolence movement. The Black power protesters wanted separation from the whites which is similar to the Pan Africanism movement proposed by Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey is an advocate for black nationalism and was a leader in the Pan Africanism movement. Marcus supported the idea of going Back to Africa which was what the Pan Africanism movement was all about. Garvey even founded a steamship company called Black Star Line with black officers and crew. Comparatively, Black Power also has a strong stance on the Back to Africa as Bayard Rustin says in Black Power and Coalition Politics, ...Negroes are once again turning to nationalistic slogans, with black power affording the same emotional release as Back to Africa ... did in earlier periods of frustration and hopelessness . • 14. Ipsilateral Knee Injury Essay 1.1 Background Concomitant knee injuries and knee pain associated with lower limb fractures often stay undetected, or are inadequately addressed in fracture treatment plans, which then attributes to poor treatment outcomes. [1,2,3] The treatment of choice for tibial shaft fractures is intramedullary (IM) nailing.[4] After placing an IM nail during surgery, the ROM of the ipsilateral knee joint can be compromised due to pain, undetected ligamental, meniscal injuries, or the positioning of the IM tibial nail itself. [2,5,6,7] Although knee pain has been announced the most frequent complication of IM nailing, often times these instabilities are overlooked during emergency surgical care and remain unaddressed in post surgical management. [3,8] Long term follow up studies on anterior knee pain described incidental rates between 10 and 83 percent among patients. [1,5,9,10] It has also been stated that the high incidence of knee pain after IM nailing is of multifactorial origin.[1,8,11] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Civil Rights in Colored People by Henry Louis Gates Henry Louis Gates admiration and following of great civil rights movement leaders, including his mother, seems to show that he has an optimistic position on history and social change in his book Colored People . Throughout the beginning chapters he is shown growing up noticing the contract between his mother s view and the rest of the Colemans. She would stand up to white people. He admired her spark and vitality, whished to grow up in a world where he can see his mother treated with the respect she deserves. Freedom from the chains of segregation was his goal, most notably his adventures during his college years. He was dating a white girl and was also going to extreme lengths to make sure Piedmont becomes unsegregated. Growing up he sees the flame within his mother diminishing. This occurrence doesn t phase his determination, the contrary; he decides to resurrect his mother s passion. He attempts that by helping his father buy her a house, since she always wanted to own property. He seems to also believe that the arc of history curves, no matter how many curves it takes it, towards justice. He at least did throughout his adolescence years. However, in the big scheme of history, it seems that his view is not as one dimensional as readers would expect. Gate s book reveals to us how history can be ironic in the form of a shocking change of tone in the concluding chapters. He doesn t imply that history is approaching its doom because of our actions, it is simply pointing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fieldwork in Various Anthropological Schools of Thought Essay Cultural anthropology is a social science that studies the origins and development of human societies (History World International, 2001). Many theories to explain cultural variations among humans have emerged. As a result, numerous anthropological schools of thought have been established based on these theories since the nineteenth century. These schools of thought encompass the dominant beliefs about culture during a time period and are constantly changing as new knowledge is acquired. On the other hand, scholars, like Lewis Henry Morgan, did their own fieldwork to study and understand societies. However, scientific methods for collecting data were not developed until decades later. As a result, Morgan s studies have been criticized for being too vast and superficial, as well as having fundamental errors in the interpretation of the data (Tooker, 1992). Ethnographic methods during this time were basic at best and were of little concern to the cultural evolutionists. Franz Boas was one of the first anthropologists to reject the theories of the cultural evolutionists in the beginning of the twentieth century (History World International, 2001). Although he recognized the role of evolution in ancestry, he found the theories of the cultural evolutionists to be scientifically unfounded. Instead, he pioneered historical particularism, the first American born anthropological school. This school emphasized the individuality of a society and, therefore, to examine it one must look at the cultures environmental, psychological, and, most importantly, historical circumstances (McGee Warms, 2008). Before the school year begins, students must make the choice of whether or not they want to live on campus or commute. Commuting does not necessarily have to do with going to school, but commuting is commonly seen for going to school or work. I had to decide whether or not to commute before my Fall semester started, and picking was a tough choice because I live quite far from the college campus; however, I chose to commute for various reasons and it was the right decision. People who commute far distances, usually complain about the annoyances that come with commuting, and some of these people will choose to move closer even though they were originally at driving distance; however, most people who commute chose to continue commuting for as long as possible anyways. Dorming and living on campus is much more convenient, but commuting to college, if possible, is much better since commuting is cheaper, anyone can do it, family reasons, and of course much more comfortable. Commuting may be tough in the morning since a commuter must wake up, and begin traveling early, but at the end of the year a commuter would save much more money. Homoeroticism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray Wilde s sexuality and effeminate nature shaped his relations to the natural beauty of the world, which in turn manifested itself in the moral implications of his now famous works. For example, his very own personal ordeals are envisaged through the passages of The Picture of Dorian Gray, and it has been passionately hypothesized that characters such as Basil, Dorian, and Lord Henry are personalities of Wilde s own flamboyant character. In an interpretation written by Donald H Ericksen, Wilde had written the following: Basil in how I see myself, Lord Henry how the world sees me and Dorian how I would like to be . The discussions surrounding The Picture of Dorian Gray were linked to the egregious homoeroticism displayed through the synergy of Wilde s characters and how they interacted with each other. In a time of irrational Victorian thinking, it comes as no surprise that Wilde s writing had evoked such a backlash. For people during the Victorian period, Wilde s male characters and the relationships in which they maintained were more than abundantly suggestive to enable thoughts of disgust in even the most tolerant of people. The Beat Generation In Jitterbug Perfume By Tom Robbin The Beat Generation an inspiration to many The beat generation was a movement that sought to oppose American society values, and any sort of control. They explored Eastern religions, was somewhat postmodernism, rejected the materialistic culture, spoke about drugs, our conscious mind, and fought for sexual liberation and exploration with their unapologetically offensive language. While reading the novel Jitterbug Perfume written by Tom Robbin, one can witness how the novel exhibits aspects of the beat literature, and thus concluding that the beat generation served as inspiration to Tom Robbin. The beat generation was focused on expanding the conscious mind, whether it was with the use of drugs, Yoga, meditation, and most commonly the use of spiritual eastern religion. According to the article, The Beat Generation and Buddhist Religion , the beat generation believed that Eastern spirituality provided a better pathway leading toward ecstasy rather than spiritual stagnation and suffocation. (Chandler 316) Daniel Ross Chandler also states that, The Beat Generation comprised a vanguard signaling a significant shift occurring in contemporary American religious consciousness; this dramatic change was confirmed by a rejection of institutional religion... and an affirmation attesting that fresh spiritual insights are discovered through mystical experience, hallucinogenic drugs, and eastern religion. (Chandler 313) Salas 2 The Beats movement changed the thoughts of the youth because they introduced a new form of thinking with this new form of religion that drastically differs from Christianity. They changed the culture of America. • 31. Essay about My Personal Praxis Statement My Personal Praxis Statement As a college student, I often find myself inundated with work. To make it worse, these assignments usually are uninteresting and irrelevant. It is in the midst of these tedious exercises that I begin to wonder whether all of this work is worth it. When this issue creeps into my mind, I think back to my reasons for choosing to pursue this profession. When I started college, I knew that I could not function in a typical nine to five job. The banality and predictability of such a career simply did not appeal to me. So that essentially ruled out any course of study which would lead to such an occupation. I believe that I can pass along my own wisdom while simultaneously helping them to develop a knowledge base of their own. I believe that I can get through to students and allow them to reach new realizations. I believe that I can help them to see the process of schooling as an experience that is both interesting and enlightening. What follows is my interpretation of the teaching profession. It details the methodological and ideological frameworks that I would use to construct a learning experience that is meaningful for students. When looking back on high school, I realize that I typically learned more from teachers who made their classes interesting. By doing so, these educators utilized student interest as method of building a desire to learn. They camouflaged learning in the colors of discussion, making it seem as though we simply were carrying on a normal discourse. But each class inevitably resulted in the acquisition of a better understanding of the subject material. As a student, I found myself wanting to go to these classes. The teachers who conducted these courses made education seem enjoyable and thus created in students a desire to engage in further learning. As a future educator, I would like my class to operate in a similar manner. I want my class to be one that students look forward to attending. Mine will be an intellectually open classroom environment one in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Human Cloning Ethical Concerns on Human Cloning Human cloning, one of the most fascinating chapters in scientific history. Cloning goes back to the first mammal that was successfully cloned, Dolly the sheep. Dolly was duplicated on July 5, 1996 and since then the world has had many scientific advancements. Abby Norman, author of How Close Are We to Successfully Cloning our First Human said that other types of mammals such as goats, rats, pigs, mice, and rabbits have been cloned successfully but cloning other mammals and primates may not be so easy. Scientists are not yet able to successfully clone a human, but believe they will be able to do so by the 2020s. Although useful for studying genetic diseases, human cloning produces issues as to whether it should be allowed or not because some believe the copy will have the same personality and ... These factors could be social class, ethnicity, race, and gender among others. Each of these environmental factors plays a critical role in determining one s identity. For instance, one s family experience is largely determined by the factors that surround them. Being a girl might result in having a different family experience, depending on specific cultures. Given that she is a lady, the role of the breadwinner is left for her father. She is expected in contributing towards ensuring that her little sister Ann stays grounded and behaves in a respectful and expected manner. In the family, Mary is expected to take a role in helping out in domestic duties. Together with her sister, she is expected to help out in house chores. Such roles reinforce the traditional gender roles that women are required to undertake. They serve to indicate the stereotypical assumptions that women are supposed to take on the domestic house chores such as cooking and cleaning while the boys undertake the more interesting duties or wait around to be served (Lindsey, 2015). Essentially, it ties down the women as indicated by the role that Mary s mother has taken in the household. While her father takes on the important task of being a breadwinner and has a job, Mary s mother remains at home to cater for the family. This is a communication enough to Mary and her sister that the women rank slightly lower than the men. As such, they are bound to have a family experience that is torn between trying to prove the males wrong by excelling in school and trying to conform to the gender enforced rules that dictate that women are supposed to mainly help out at ...
