SSMU3.1 Understanding Sensory Loss
Gemma Nelson (Ashcroft House)
1.1 Analyse how a range of factors can impact on individuals with sensory loss
* Impact on Communication
Sensory loss can frequently lead to isolation and frustration at not being able to communicate
efficiently with other people. With hearing loss, day to day activities such as hearing a doorbell, using
the telephone, watching television or taking part in conversations can produce feelings of inadequacy
within the individual. Not being able to distinguish faces, read the time on a clock or drive can
produce the same feelings in a person who has vision loss. Hearing loss interferes with face to face
communication and can often cause older people to lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society is better than it used to be at recognising the needs of deaf people; there are more public
buildings such as cinemas, theatres and conference facilities that have loop systems so that people
who can use hearing aids are able to listen to what is being said or performed. There some events that
now have signers to translate speeches and performances. Many television programmes now have
access to subtitles and some have signers, although these tend to be late at night. People with any kind
of sensory loss can have difficulties in finding employment. Even though the Equality Act and the
Disability Discrimination Act mean that employers cannot discriminate, it is hard to convince an
employer that a sensory loss does not necessarily mean that someone is unable to do a job.
Attitudes such as these can make it difficult for people to maintain self esteem and can destroy
confidence, with the result that they will attempt less, rely on others more and potentially lose their
independence. However, there have been some major shifts in attitudes as initiatives such as Our
Health Our Care Our Say , Putting People First and Valuing People are changing how we look at
disability and making people aware that all disabled people have the right to take a full part in society.

Why The Dieppe Raid
The Dieppe raid was a devastating failure in terms of success of objectives. Hundreds of Canadians
lost their lives, landing crafts were destroyed, tanks were deserted during the evacuation, and very few
objectives were met. Despite being renowned as a disastrous event, allied commanders gained
invaluable knowledge for a full scale continental invasion and this knowledge was applied to the
planning of D day two years later. Behind the failure of Dieppe laid a poor plan, insufficient support
from aircraft and artillery, and deplorable communication. The lessons learned and the knowledge
gained from the Canadian raid at Dieppe in 1942 were essential to the success of the invasion at
Normandy in 1944.
The main cause of the failure at Dieppe was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the while, the sappers of the Royal Canadian Engineers would blast a path through enemy
obstacles and the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals would ensure smooth communications. The
Germans, anticipating the Dieppe Raid, had fortified the beach with a variety of obstacles.
Subsequently, Canada familiarized themselves with Germany s defenses, preparing themselves for
ways to thwart or oppose the defenses on the beaches of Normandy. At Dieppe, the Royal Canadian
Engineers were met with hidden mines and heavy gun fire that propelled the Armoured Vehicle Royal
Engineers to acquire and implement petard shells to tanks, killing approximately half the defenders at
Normandy and causing 48 Germans to surrender.4 Canada became knowledgeable about their enemy s
defenses and developed menacing defenses of their own prior to the invasion at Normandy, resulting
in a favourable progression at Normandy that led to the success at D Day. Canada s inferior
technology to the German defenses at Dieppe propelled Canada to improve their equipment, aiding in
the success of D Day. Specifically, the Churchill tanks at Dieppe were easily faltered by the aggressive
German fire and immobilized due to the rough condition of the cobblestone shingle banks and sea
wall. The duplex drive (DD) and Sherman tanks were then established, having the ability to swim to
shore with no need of a craft to deliver them.5 Directly

Examples Of Misrepresentations In Haitian Poetry
Poetry have been a major tool for many Haitian writers to express the triumphs that they have and are
recently faced with, addressing misrepresentations that may have developed about Haiti, and to give
them a sense of hope and encouragement. In most Haitian poems you see the correlation of these
actions taking place in the defense of Haiti. Haiti has been a country who overcame many obstacles
such as; slavery, the Haitian revolution, recently the earthquake are continuing to go through many
more obstacles. Haiti as a whole have been a country for many years that have been up lifting each
other in various way, and poetry have been one of many of those ways. Patrick Sylvain, Emmanuel
Ejen, Devorah Major, and Rudwaan are examples of Haitian poets who paint a picture in a positive
light or even to portray a message of truth. In their poems Ports of Sorrow , We be Spirit People ,
Haiti: Statistics of loss and WONGOL all are poems with similar messages in different aspects of
light. The poem Ports of Sorrow by Patrick Sylvain is a poem about the pain that was developed from
the earthquake in Haiti and morn the lives of the people that were lost and a beautiful country that was
destroyed. We be Spirit People by Rudwaan is based on the Haitian revolutionary war, which was a
war fought by enslaved Haitian who defeated Napoleons army, Spanish and English as well and as a
result in 1804 Haiti became the first black independent country in the world. This poem sheds light on

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy ( Rebt ) Foundation
Introduction
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) foundation says that the way people make assumptions
about themselves and the world around them influences their emotions and behavior. (McLeod, 2008)
Sometimes these assumptions may impact people negatively because they are not rational ways to
view aspects of life. The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of what REBT is, its obstacles,
how to deal with those obstacles, and the effectiveness of this therapy.
History
REBT was developed by Albert Ellis in 1955. (Wilson, 2014) Ellis did not agree with conventional
ways of psychoanalysis because, to him, they were superficial and unscientific. (Wilson, 2014) Ellis
then combined a therapy that had humanistic, cognitive, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An example would be: I want to be approved of this, but it s okay if I do not. (Wilson, 2014) The
second rational belief is called the anti awfulizing belief that says, It s bad to be disapproved of at
school, but it isn t the end of the world. (Wilson, 2014)The third rational belief would be the high
frustration tolerance belief that says, It s difficult to face being disapproved of at school, but I can
tolerate it. (Wilson, 2014) Lastly, the fourth rational belief is the acceptance belief. For example: I can
accept myself if I am disapproved by my peers at school. These were all examples of Ellis rational
beliefs. (Wilson, 2014)
The first irrational belief is called the rigid demands and an example of it would be I must be liked at
school , and the second is awfulizing beliefs like If I m disapproved at school, it s the end of the
world. (Wilson, 2014)The third irrational belief is the low frustration beliefs and an example of it
would be I can t tolerate not being liked by people at school. (Wilson, 2014) Lastly the fourth
irrational belief is depreciation beliefs an example would be, People that do not approve of me are
terrible people . (Wilson, 2014)These were examples of Ellis irrational beliefs.
The second principal preposition is that cultural and family tendencies and patterns can influence
irrational beliefs in people. (Wilson, 2014) The third principal preposition is that thinking,

Business Law amp; Bankruptcy
Assignment #5
When Josh was asked, during a bankruptcy proceeding, whether he had ever been sued, he responded
that he had not. In fact, he had once been sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress. That suit
had been settled many years earlier and had no financial impact on Josh today. Josh s debts were
discharged in bankruptcy. Creditors want the discharge revoked because of Josh s lie.
Should a discharge be revoked because of a lie made in court by the debtor that had no impact on the
case?
In Dale Alleman v. Brett J. Kitson, 341 Fed. Appx. 234 (7 Cir. 2009) Brett J. Kitson and his wife,
Courtney, had filed a joint bankruptcy petition in Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of Illinois.

Mr. Alleman argued that Mr. Kitson failed to retain business records for Kitson Enterprises, a
corporation of which Mr. Kitson was the sole shareholder and §727(a)(3) of the Bankruptcy Code
prohibits discharge when the debtor has concealed, destroyed, mutilated, falsified, or failed to keep or
preserve records from which the debtor s financial condition or business transactions might be
ascertained... .The bankruptcy court found that these records were not material to Mr. Kitson s
financial condition because the corporation s tax returns showed that the business made no profit, the
bankruptcy court had determined that Kitson Enterprises had no assets, and Mr. Kitson had earned no
money from the corporation. The Court of Appeals, therefore, agreed that the bankruptcy court was
correct to conclude that the records were immaterial and discharge was not barred under §727(a)(3).
Mr. Alleman also submitted that the bankruptcy court should not have granted Mr. Kitson a discharge
because he had made a number of misstatements and omissions on the bankruptcy statement and
schedules, and §727(a)(4) forbids discharge where the debtor knowingly and fraudulently . . . made a
false oath or account. The bankruptcy court found that Mr. Kitson s bankruptcy filing did contain
several misstatements and omissions, but concluded that they did not run evoke §727(a)(4) because
none of them were material to the bankruptcy

The Power Of Responsibility In The Great Gatsby
The power of responsibility
Responsibility is a very important part of a person s personality and . Lennie and Gatsby run from
their responsibilities. Both did awful things and it ended up getting them in a very bad situation. In
real life running from responsibilities makes people look egotistical or unreliable because they don t
want to get themselves in trouble.
The Great Gatsby was written by F.Scott Fitzgerald and is about Nick Carraway and Jay Gatsby. It
tells the story of how James Gatz, a young farm boy turned himself into Jay Gatsby, a rich and lively
man. Always chasing after one person, Daisy. Of Mice and Men was written by John Steinbeck and
tells people about the struggles of the 1930 s workers in California through George and Lennie.
George and Lennie are two workers who always stayed by each other s side through thick and thin
even though George didn t want Lennie around.
Responsibility is something that everyone has and sometimes people might have to run. Though in
most cases people should learn to stay and face their responsibilities. If people ignore a responsibility
then it might help resolve the situation and if they don t ignore it any trouble or strife can be
prevented.
Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, Tom, they all have their own set of responsibilities to uphold and keep
track of.
Jay Gatsby used to live on a farm in North Dakota and ran away and made a responsibility to himself
to become rich, famous and successful, (FITZGERALD,98).

Essay on Dickens Social Commentary in Great Expectations
Dickens Social Commentary in Great Expectations
Charles Dickens Great Expectations stands as one of the most highly revered works in all of English
literature. The novel s perennial appeal lies in its penetrating depictions of character, rich panoramas
of social milieu, and implicit crusades against social evils.1
Dickens used the growth of his characters in Great Expectations, particularly Pip, in relation to others
to write about social reform, and most effectively illustrated this by using the first person narrative
style. In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens has written a social commentary using the development
of his characters to illustrate his message. In my paper, I will concentrate on three of the main ... Show

Dickens uses his characters to illustrate these themes. He shows in depth character transformation by
showing his characters learning these lessons through suffering and hardships.
Great Expectations is told by a first person narrator, the narrator being the main character, Pip. He tells
about his own life of selfishness and greed and how he learned through his own experiences how to
make himself useful and happy. This novel is a first person narrative because it is Pip s own story.
Since it is about his own life it makes it easy for the reader to identify with Pip and what he is going
through. In a first person narrative you know from the very beginning of the story the conflict between
the narrator and the main character will be resolved.4 In Great Expectations the narrator is the main
character grown up and telling about his experiences as a young boy. It would be difficult to tell a
story unless you really understand the meaning and importance of it and you can only realize this
through your own experiences.
Pip s first encounter with Magwitch, an escaped convict, is down by the marshes where Pip is visiting
his parents graves. Magwitch asks Pip, Where s your mother? Pip points to the grave and says There
sir. 5 Magwitch is startled and we can sense that he was a bit frightened also. From Magwitch s
nervousness we see that he is just as scared and unhappy as Pip. Pip is very

The Remembrance Of A Grandmother
In Remembrance OF A Grandmother Grandparents are the best of friend and gentle person you will

with their grandparents because they are full of stories and always seem to have candy or cookie with
them. Children are always excited about their grandparents visitation especially on holidays and
birthdays. They hoped that one day they will see their granddaughters grow up and change the world.
In the long run, their life turned upside down, and they never get to see that day comes to pass. One
day they are here and then they are gone, leaving you behind wondering what you could have done to
keep them longer. First of all, my great grandmother Akosua, was not just an ordinary woman. She
was talented, adventurous, friendly and joyful person you will ever meet. When grandmother Akosua
was younger, she traveled around the world, serving her famous cuisine to workers in isolated places.
There were any cars during those day so she walked by foot crossing boarder to boarder entering into
other lands. She would take two week trip to the other native land and sell food to the people who
were living or working there. Sometimes when her food is finished, she would stay longer, and cook
for them. She was always trying new things and going beyond her limit. She got the kindness of heart

Big Data And Cloud Solutions Essay
Big Data and Cloud Solutions Organizations have accumulated lots of data throughout the years and
realized how they could use it for their benefit; this is where Big Data emerged. It has become a way
for organizations to analyze data and use it to their advantage. The purpose of this paper is to provide
an introduction to what Big Data is, its relationship to cloud computing and its architectural options
like: streaming processing, big data storage, application hosting, big data analytics, machine learning,
data import, and data sources. A comparison of four big data/cloud computing solutions with a
detailed matrix, is also provided in order to determine a recommendation of which solution is the best.
Big Data Big Data can be understood and defined in different ways. In simple terms, Big Data is a
collection of data from several sources like: traditional and digital from inside and outside of an
organization that represents a source for ongoing analysis and discovery. It is a term applied to
massive quantity of data that organizations can collect from their operation and that cannot be easily
managed by traditional database systems (Colorado State University Global Campus, 2016, p.1). It s
also important to understand that Big Data can be a mix of unstructured and structured data. Dumbill
(2012, para. 2) states, Big Data has become viable as cost effective approaches have emerged to tame
Big Data s three V s of massive data. The three V s are: 1. Volume huge amount of

Sage 50 Accounting Report
Reflection
I have learnt how to use Sage 50; how to recognize and record correct transactions based on source
documents; if HST is required, whether it is HST payable or HST recoverable; using accounting
principles to check each transaction; correcting errors according to general ledger; I can analyze the
difference between balance sheet and income statement.
To begin with, I have learnt how to use Sage 50 to record transactions, and have realized the benefits
and drawbacks of using this software. As we have each transaction sheet, we have to recognize the
debits and credit account first, and record the corresponding amount into each account. Then we
record the source of the transaction, date of the transaction and explain each of the entry. ... Show

it was the exact same error as I have thought. Secondly, there was still $350 less than expected. I
firstly checked whether I have put the amount into the wrong side or have I missed $350. Eventually, I
found it was not simply just putting into the wrong column, but I have selected the false account. I
chose to debit equipment account instead of the expense account. Thus, after adjusting these 2 entries,

California Gold Rush Analysis
Many still tell the stories about the old west. These tales of the gold rush with gold nuggets the size of
boulders, visions of the railroad cutting across the continent with civilization nipping at it heels, epic
battles between settlers, soldiers, and Indians, or tales of cowboys, bandits and shootouts continue to
capture the imagination of the young and old alike. Most of these fantasies boast of the riches any man
could accrue, and of boundless opportunity for anyone willing to leave everything behind to seek their
destiny. Sadly many of these stories could not be further from the truth. The real story of the west is
one of misrepresentation, greed, exploitation, and racism. The Indian Wars provide some of the most

deserved or the investment to form their own outfit (Hine). In the northern plains cattlemen would

cattlemen would cheat them by tampering with scales, manipulating the books so it appeared that
Indians were getting their allotment, and selling the animal based on pre winter bulk weight and not

what is being done to combat the illegal aspect of the issue as well what is being done to keep the
margins up and the coffers filled. Drugs, illegal and legal, have been a part of the history of the United
States for almost three centuries. From the time when the 19th century began, Americans went from
alcohol as the preferred mood altering substance to a new realm of addiction. During this time
Americans were acquaint with wonder drugs such as morphine, heroin, and cocaine. Since that
discovery, our society has confronted the problems of drug abuse and addiction (DEA, 2015). Once
the 20th century began, the United States, contending with its first drug epidemic in the country s
short history, progressively started effective limitations to combat the epidemic. In the United States
through internal law enforcement they began to fight the issue domestically. Through cooperation and
sometimes without the United States began spearheading a world crusade to limit opium and coca
crops (DEA, 2015). By World War II, the use of drugs in America had declined significantly enough
for it to no longer be considered a significant issue. It was then seen as a borderline social problem

My Career At Florida State University
After completing my bachelor s degree at Florida State University in the fall of 1997, I began my
career at a small hospital in Largo, Florida. I started on a thirty eight bed cardiac/telemetry unit. I had
the fortunate opportunity to orient with a seasoned nurse who loved her career in nursing. She was an
enthusiastic preceptor that not only educated me on the tasks of nursing but inspired and introduced
me to critical care and critical thinking. I spent the next three years at this hospital working in the
Coronary Care Unit until deciding to become a travel nurse and see the country. I began travel nursing
with my best friend and we worked in Florida, Washington D.C., New York and Denver. At all of
these locations we worked in the intensive care unit. Each experience provided a different population
and vast new experiences. The hospital in D.C. was in a low socioeconomic area and my knowledge
base of wounds, hypertension and diabetes improved. I also learned how to let go of some of my own
biases and judgments of people different than myself. In New York, I worked in a large facility on the
Upper East Side with a very different clientele. I worked in the pulmonary/medical intensive care unit
and with a varied population. New York is home to many different cultures and I learned to understand
and appreciate cultural differences. In Denver, we worked at three different metropolitan area

Solid waste like bags, foam, and other items dumped into the oceans from land or by ships at sea are
frequently consumed, with often fatal effects, by marine mammals, fish, and birds that mistake it for
food.
Ocean currents corral trillions of decomposing plastic items and other trash into gigantic, swirling
garbage patches (Pacific Trash Vortex)
Fish and birds could be harmed from accidentally eating the plastic particles, or absorbing substances
that leach out into the water. The main problem is the accessibility to freshwater organisms that can be
easily confused as natural food.
IV Pollution Facts:
The average American will throw away approximately 185 pounds of plastic per year.
8% of the world s oil is used for plastic production.
Plastic in the ocean breaks down into such small segments that pieces of plastic from a one liter bottle
could end up on every mile of beach throughout the world.
Approximately 380 billion plastic bags are used in the United States every year. That s more than
1,200 bags per US resident, per year.
80% of pollution to the marine environment comes from the land.
Estimated in 2006 that every square mile of ocean contains 46,000 pieces of floating plastic.
Estimated that over 70,000 chemicals are used in industrial compounds, pesticides, pharmaceuticals,
food additives, and other purposes. That total

Mr. Bennett s Quit Seriously And Began Taking Action...
It appears Mary has taken Mr. Bennett s situation quit seriously and began taking action immediately.
I appreciate that she spoke with the boys in question first thing Monday morning, however it is
unclear as to whether she spoke to the boys as a group or individually. In my experience, I cannot
remember a situation where I was unable to get to the truth when I spoke to students one on one. She
should have invited the Dean of Students into the conversation and appealed to each student
separately. I would refer to our school s root belief, We are the Body of Christ and remind each student
that as a school community we aim to act as Christ s body and should always be encouraging one
another to do so. We also must stand up for someone who is being mistreated, as Christ often did. I
believe that within the group of boys, at least one of them would have been uneasy with the treatment
of the teacher or the comments that were allegedly made, making it easier to get to the truth.
Given the scenario at this point, Mary has gotten no confirmation from the boys that anything was
ever said, but Kyle did admit, Everyone knew that Mr. Bennett was gay. This comment alone would
motivate me to contact Kyle s parents. I would invite them in to discuss this matter, along with Kyle
and the Dean of Students after school. I would begin by giving Kyle s parents general background
information about Mr. Bennett, including that he is respected by his fellow staff members for his

The Person of Christ Essay
The Person of Christ
When discussing and proving the person of Christ, there are two basic laws that must be addressed
and proven. First you must prove that Christ is one hundred percent human (humanity), then you must
prove that at the same time Christ is one hundred percent God (deity). As human, Christ had a body,
he had a soul and spirit, he had human characteristics, and he was called by human names. In Luke
2:52, it is written that Christ, even though he had a virgin birth, He was born with a human body that
was conceived by a human body. Christ s humanity included both the material and immaterial aspects
of the human body (he was flesh but at the same time he was also Soul and Spirit). For Christians,

385) . It took not only the humanity of Christ, but also his deity to affect the world in this way. In the
view of His deity, Christ is God. Not only is he Christ, but the Son of God, and called God in the New
Testament. The Johannine teaching includes the following passages: John 1:1, 18, where some
manuscripts read the only begotten God, and that unusual reading may be regarded as grounds for
accepting its authenticity; 20:28,
where Thomas used both kurios and theos of Jesus; and 1 John 5:20. It is preferable to ascribe the
phrase God blessed forever to Christ (Ryre Basic Theology p. 56) .
Apart from his distinction as human, there is evidence of oneness. The New Testament insists that
there is only one true God in James 2:19 as it states, You believe that there is only God. Good! Even
the demons believe that and shudder. Christ is part of the Trinity and is recognized as God in creation
John 1:3, judge of all things in the future john 5:27, and he has omniscience Matthew 9:4. Charles
Ryre proves Christ s deity and involvement in the Trinity in Basic Theology, as he writes,
How then do we arrive at a clear doctrine of the Trinity? Simply by accepting two lines of evidence in
the bible: (a) clear statements that teach there is only one God; and (b)equally clear statements that
there was Someone

We Are Becoming More Comfortable With Many Kinds Of Danger
Avalanche Gently, I open my tired eyes to the bright morning lights shining through the cracks of my
aging tent. Stretching my awfully sore, cramping legs under my snowsuit, I take in a big breath of the
mountain air. Christopher, Michael are you ready to go yet? Get out of your tents! Rachel hollers from
her tent. Alright, Michael yells bitterly from behind me. Smiling, I carefully unzip my cramped tent
and gaze in awe at my perfectly stunning snowy mountain view. Small, white flakes are falling from
the light gray sky, working together to make yet another layer of untouched snow. Down below are
treacherous slopes, steep cliffs, and slippery patches of ice that used to terrify me but don t anymore.

One man had particularly interesting stories, as he was the group s guide and had trekked up and down
Mount Everest many times before. I have to warn you, he said in a serious tone. The weather is
warming up, and that means the glaciers are too. We saw a big avalanche happen right before our eyes
a few days ago. Be careful, stick together, and consider calling a guide to help you out. Wide eyed I
nod firmly, thank him for the useful advice, and hastily run up the path to catch up with Rachel and
Michael. Walking up the snowy path I think about the man s wise words and realize my feelings are
vacillated. We are so close to finishing, but I don t want to discontinue after all that we have
accomplished. Guys, did you hear what that guide said before? We should start to be more careful , I
expressed. Looking at each other, Michael and Rachel came to the same conclusion: I was crazy. We
have been doing this for almost two months, Christopher. We don t need a guide to boss us around,
Rachel snapped at me. I was bewildered by her carelessness but kept quiet; I wasn t in the mood to
start a fight. Lagging hours of silence between the three of us become awkward, uncomfortable, and
frustrating. Suddenly I hear a thundering noise coming from behind me and I nervously turn my head

How to overcome individual level resistance to organizational changes
Abstract
Organization change is prevalent, we cannot avoid failure in working, it is just the question about
sooner or later. When we met frustration,we have to take steps to alter the environment. Thus, change
in organization is a necessary result of standstill.
However, where there is change, there is resistance to change. Lectures show that resistance of
employees is always the largest barrier for the organization who want to take a change to develop
further .To solve the relationship of the forces of change and resistance, choosing suitable methods
and strategies is very important.

As we just mentioned before, change is irresistible, however, there is still forces reject to change. Thus,
a theory called force field theory was developed by a researcher named Kurt Lewin. It explained how
do these to forces influence each other. In the form below, we can see that when the two forces are all
most balances, there s indeed little change for the organization. In some degree, if there is a need to
change, managers have to consider a way to push the employees to adjust the new decision and new
environment that the changes make bring(George Jones, 2008 ).
Exhibit 2 illustrated Lewin s theory [pic]
Performance level P1of an organization is shown to be balanced means force for change and
resistance to change are equal. If organization want to achieve performance leve P2, the managers
must increase the forces for change and reduce resistance to change,or both.
How to overcome
Communicate with the workforce
For most employees, the horror of change is that they don t know what is going to happen next.
(George Jones, 2008 ). Managers could communicate with employees, to insight their fright about
change and then check out what is the best solution for both.(Litch, Bonnie, 2005) . Or ,they can have
a good group communication in a weekly meeting (George Jones, 2008 ).
Also, surprise is not suitable here to be the announcement. Management Review,

The topic that chosen was to compare the way a short story treats death with the way a poem reveals
death. The short story chosen was The Story of an hour by Kate Chopin and the poem chosen was
Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall. They each have their own way of expressing the nature of
death.
The Story of an Hour treats death as a good thing, because Mrs. Mallard was excited when she
thought that her husband was killed in a train accident. When she abandoned herself a little whispered
word escaped her slightly parted lips. She said it over and over under her breath: Free, free, free! (Kate
Chopin, P. 202). It was selfish for her to feel happy that her husband possibly died. But then when she

Why Companies Fail At Operation Excellence Implementation
Other factors that drive the need for operational excellence is the recognition. Shingo prize is an award
that recognizes organizations that have successfully implemented operation excellence. Having such a
recognition as a winner put the business on the top line compared to other businesses. That helps the
business reputation, and that is good for business.
Why Some Business Fail at OPEX Implementation
Considering the amount of effort required to implement operational excellence, it can be disastrous if
it fails to achieve the expected outcome (Casey, 2010). For operational excellence to be successful, the
people, process and technology have to concur. There are several reasons why businesses fail at
operation excellence implementation. This is because operational excellence requires a wide range of
skill, commitment, and people to work together and be successful.
Connolly (2012) study found the following reasons why operation excellence program in some
organization fail: Lack of support from leadership, improper team selection and lack of training for all
stakeholders, lack of communication all around the organization, lack of scope clarity, improper
implementation, misconception, and the Good old ways resistance.
1. Lack of support from leadership: Operation excellence requires total support from all levels of the
organization and this is very important to the survival of the program. The support help drives the
program financial needs, and since the leaders set

Radar In World War Two
One of the most important technological achievements of World War Two was the invention of radar.
For the first time in history, commanders could see hundreds of miles past their own vision and
develop strategies to counter enemy movements. Radar had enormous effects on the outcome of World
War Two and was a determining factor in how naval and aerial strategy developed into what it is
today. Applicable in both offensive and defensive strategies, radar can be used as an early warning
device or as a helping mechanism for aerial bombers and naval ships to find their targets more
effectively. Defensively, radar played a large role against aerial and naval attacks throughout the war.

Suddenly, poor weather conditions and the darkness of night were no longer problems for naval
leaders and fighters. Radar allowed ship commanders and airman to see without light, and be more
precise with their targets. The ability to attack at night was immensely different from previous wars.
Previously, the darkness made fighting impossible due to lack of technology for targeting. With radar,
this was now possible. To attack from the air or by ship at night was a formidable threat to ships and
land bases. Radar was used to locate enemy ships and launch planes accurately from large distances.
Attacking without ever seeing the enemy was also now a normal element to naval warfare. From using
radar to launch planes at an enemy hundreds of miles away to using it to find the coordinates of enemy
ships and using naval gunfire, seeing the actual enemy was no longer necessary. One instance where
radar played a formidable role in an attack was at the battle of Midway. Midway was the turning point
in the war where Japan lost two of their aircraft carriers due to radar locating their exact locations
(Lambert). With this information American forces were able to send dive bombers to the exact
coordinates to destroy the vital Japanese carriers. Also using radar for reconnaissance was a
determining factor for the offensive campaigns. Being able to detect where the enemy is and where
they are going to be made the planning of operations more adjustable to change. The use of radar
required a broad communication chain in order to inform leaders of the findings. With the increased
communications, radar findings could be announced to the whole fleet and its commanders. Increasing
the pre battle intelligence by increasing communication, commanders could use the radar finding and
direct ships and aircraft

Children love television, and I know when I was in third grade and I saw the tv rolling into class I
didn t care what program we were about to see I was just glad we were watching tv. But this isn t all
about a fun video. Bill Nye the Science Guy is generally a great show for children. My main goal for
showing these third graders Bill Nye is to not teach them the Hydrologic Cycle, but more to get them
to like Bill Nye the Science Guy. Just think, as an educator, if you can teach your lesson while getting
the students hooked on the whole subject. I watched Bill Nye the Science Guy as a child and I believe
it was one of the few reasons why I was interested in science. When teaching third graders them
learning the material at hand is the key lesson, but it t not the final goal. Getting them interested and to
enjoy science is the main take away here. Teaching a parent or grandparent is much different as our
goal isn t to get them hooked on science but more to just teach them the lesson. One thing I ve noticed
when teaching an adult is that they become less interested with the teaching the more childish it is. So
basically, Bill Nye would not work. So I found another video online that would teach adults the
Hydrologic Cycle perfectly. It is a video from NASA. This video contains all the information they
would need to master what the hydrologic cycle is, while including visual evidence, yet at the same
time not being too childish. The

Beautiful and sad. A narrative from a father to a son. Initially I thought it was tragic and heartbreaking.
It is a true story and a real reflection on the default of being human. If for loss of compassion for this
side of humanity, I would say in an objective and extremely distant point of view that it is pathetic.
It is good that I am reading it in my 20s, being a daughter, single and childless.
I truly get the father s anguish and grief. The poems express oscillating feelings that explore the
dimensions of extent of strong human emotion. At the same time I understand the son s rebelliousness
to a parent who insists that he (the father) listens yet strongly occurs as imposing. Unfortunately, the
love desperately being communicated does not go across. The story revolved in the father s thoughts,
dreams and memories without an actual dialogue: an attempt to truly listen and get his son.
The father s hopes to someday laugh at these poems with his son is a very real illusion that humans
live in by default. Hopes and wishes become so real a reality in the fantasy world of our minds that
who we become and act according to what is taking place is regrettably misaligned to the future that
we say we want to

  • 2. Ssmu 3.1 Essay SSMU3.1 Understanding Sensory Loss Gemma Nelson (Ashcroft House) 1.1 Analyse how a range of factors can impact on individuals with sensory loss * Impact on Communication Sensory loss can frequently lead to isolation and frustration at not being able to communicate efficiently with other people. With hearing loss, day to day activities such as hearing a doorbell, using the telephone, watching television or taking part in conversations can produce feelings of inadequacy within the individual. Not being able to distinguish faces, read the time on a clock or drive can produce the same feelings in a person who has vision loss. Hearing loss interferes with face to face communication and can often cause older people to lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Society is better than it used to be at recognising the needs of deaf people; there are more public buildings such as cinemas, theatres and conference facilities that have loop systems so that people who can use hearing aids are able to listen to what is being said or performed. There some events that now have signers to translate speeches and performances. Many television programmes now have access to subtitles and some have signers, although these tend to be late at night. People with any kind of sensory loss can have difficulties in finding employment. Even though the Equality Act and the Disability Discrimination Act mean that employers cannot discriminate, it is hard to convince an employer that a sensory loss does not necessarily mean that someone is unable to do a job. Attitudes such as these can make it difficult for people to maintain self esteem and can destroy confidence, with the result that they will attempt less, rely on others more and potentially lose their independence. However, there have been some major shifts in attitudes as initiatives such as Our Health Our Care Our Say , Putting People First and Valuing People are changing how we look at disability and making people aware that all disabled people have the right to take a full part in society. 1.3 Explore how a range of factors, societal attitudes and beliefs impact on service provision The social model of ... • 3. Why The Dieppe Raid The Dieppe raid was a devastating failure in terms of success of objectives. Hundreds of Canadians lost their lives, landing crafts were destroyed, tanks were deserted during the evacuation, and very few objectives were met. Despite being renowned as a disastrous event, allied commanders gained invaluable knowledge for a full scale continental invasion and this knowledge was applied to the planning of D day two years later. Behind the failure of Dieppe laid a poor plan, insufficient support from aircraft and artillery, and deplorable communication. The lessons learned and the knowledge gained from the Canadian raid at Dieppe in 1942 were essential to the success of the invasion at Normandy in 1944. All the while, the sappers of the Royal Canadian Engineers would blast a path through enemy obstacles and the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals would ensure smooth communications. The Germans, anticipating the Dieppe Raid, had fortified the beach with a variety of obstacles. Subsequently, Canada familiarized themselves with Germany s defenses, preparing themselves for ways to thwart or oppose the defenses on the beaches of Normandy. At Dieppe, the Royal Canadian Engineers were met with hidden mines and heavy gun fire that propelled the Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers to acquire and implement petard shells to tanks, killing approximately half the defenders at Normandy and causing 48 Germans to surrender.4 Canada became knowledgeable about their enemy s defenses and developed menacing defenses of their own prior to the invasion at Normandy, resulting in a favourable progression at Normandy that led to the success at D Day. Canada s inferior technology to the German defenses at Dieppe propelled Canada to improve their equipment, aiding in the success of D Day. Specifically, the Churchill tanks at Dieppe were easily faltered by the aggressive German fire and immobilized due to the rough condition of the cobblestone shingle banks and sea wall. The duplex drive (DD) and Sherman tanks were then established, having the ability to swim to shore with no need of a craft to deliver them.5 Directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Dickens Social Commentary in Great Expectations Dickens Social Commentary in Great Expectations Charles Dickens Great Expectations stands as one of the most highly revered works in all of English literature. The novel s perennial appeal lies in its penetrating depictions of character, rich panoramas of social milieu, and implicit crusades against social evils.1 Dickens used the growth of his characters in Great Expectations, particularly Pip, in relation to others to write about social reform, and most effectively illustrated this by using the first person narrative style. Great Expectations is told by a first person narrator, the narrator being the main character, Pip. He tells about his own life of selfishness and greed and how he learned through his own experiences how to make himself useful and happy. This novel is a first person narrative because it is Pip s own story. Since it is about his own life it makes it easy for the reader to identify with Pip and what he is going through. In a first person narrative you know from the very beginning of the story the conflict between the narrator and the main character will be resolved.4 In Great Expectations the narrator is the main character grown up and telling about his experiences as a young boy. It would be difficult to tell a story unless you really understand the meaning and importance of it and you can only realize this through your own experiences. Most capable minorities would never get the promotions they deserved or the investment to form their own outfit (Hine). In the northern plains cattlemen would trespass on Indian reservations, allowing their cattle to graze on Indian lands. When selling to Indians, cattlemen would cheat them by tampering with scales, manipulating the books so it appeared that Indians were getting their allotment, and selling the animal based on pre winter bulk weight and not accounting for loss during the winter (Sanderson). It will also look at what is being done to combat the illegal aspect of the issue as well what is being done to keep the margins up and the coffers filled. Drugs, illegal and legal, have been a part of the history of the United States for almost three centuries. From the time when the 19th century began, Americans went from alcohol as the preferred mood altering substance to a new realm of addiction. During this time Americans were acquaint with wonder drugs such as morphine, heroin, and cocaine. Since that discovery, our society has confronted the problems of drug abuse and addiction (DEA, 2015). Once the 20th century began, the United States, contending with its first drug epidemic in the country s short history, progressively started effective limitations to combat the epidemic. In the United States through internal law enforcement they began to fight the issue domestically. Through cooperation and sometimes without the United States began spearheading a world crusade to limit opium and coca crops (DEA, 2015). By World War II, the use of drugs in America had declined significantly enough for it to no longer be considered a significant issue. It was then seen as a borderline social problem and pushed ... I started on a thirty eight bed cardiac/telemetry unit. I had the fortunate opportunity to orient with a seasoned nurse who loved her career in nursing. She was an enthusiastic preceptor that not only educated me on the tasks of nursing but inspired and introduced me to critical care and critical thinking. I spent the next three years at this hospital working in the Coronary Care Unit until deciding to become a travel nurse and see the country. I began travel nursing with my best friend and we worked in Florida, Washington D.C., New York and Denver. At all of these locations we worked in the intensive care unit. Each experience provided a different population and vast new experiences. The hospital in D.C. was in a low socioeconomic area and my knowledge base of wounds, hypertension and diabetes improved. I also learned how to let go of some of my own biases and judgments of people different than myself. In New York, I worked in a large facility on the Upper East Side with a very different clientele. I worked in the pulmonary/medical intensive care unit and with a varied population. New York is home to many different cultures and I learned to understand and appreciate cultural differences. Solid waste like bags, foam, and other items dumped into the oceans from land or by ships at sea are frequently consumed, with often fatal effects, by marine mammals, fish, and birds that mistake it for food. Ocean currents corral trillions of decomposing plastic items and other trash into gigantic, swirling garbage patches (Pacific Trash Vortex) Fish and birds could be harmed from accidentally eating the plastic particles, or absorbing substances that leach out into the water. The main problem is the accessibility to freshwater organisms that can be easily confused as natural food. In my experience, I cannot remember a situation where I was unable to get to the truth when I spoke to students one on one. She should have invited the Dean of Students into the conversation and appealed to each student separately. I would refer to our school s root belief, We are the Body of Christ and remind each student that as a school community we aim to act as Christ s body and should always be encouraging one another to do so. We also must stand up for someone who is being mistreated, as Christ often did. I believe that within the group of boys, at least one of them would have been uneasy with the treatment of the teacher or the comments that were allegedly made, making it easier to get to the truth. Given the scenario at this point, Mary has gotten no confirmation from the boys that anything was ever said, but Kyle did admit, Everyone knew that Mr. Bennett was gay. First you must prove that Christ is one hundred percent human (humanity), then you must prove that at the same time Christ is one hundred percent God (deity). As human, Christ had a body, he had a soul and spirit, he had human characteristics, and he was called by human names. In Luke 2:52, it is written that Christ, even though he had a virgin birth, He was born with a human body that was conceived by a human body. For the first time in history, commanders could see hundreds of miles past their own vision and develop strategies to counter enemy movements. Applicable in both offensive and defensive strategies, radar can be used as an early warning device or as a helping mechanism for aerial bombers and naval ships to find their targets more effectively. Suddenly, poor weather conditions and the darkness of night were no longer problems for naval leaders and fighters. Radar allowed ship commanders and airman to see without light, and be more precise with their targets. The ability to attack at night was immensely different from previous wars. Previously, the darkness made fighting impossible due to lack of technology for targeting. With radar, this was now possible. To attack from the air or by ship at night was a formidable threat to ships and land bases. Radar was used to locate enemy ships and launch planes accurately from large distances. Attacking without ever seeing the enemy was also now a normal element to naval warfare. From using radar to launch planes at an enemy hundreds of miles away to using it to find the coordinates of enemy ships and using naval gunfire, seeing the actual enemy was no longer necessary. One instance where radar played a formidable role in an attack was at the battle of Midway. Midway was the turning point in the war where Japan lost two of their aircraft carriers due to radar locating their exact locations (Lambert). With this information American forces were able to send dive bombers to the exact coordinates to destroy the vital Japanese carriers. Also using radar for reconnaissance was a determining factor for the offensive campaigns. Being able to detect where the enemy is and where they are going to be made the planning of operations more adjustable to change.
