Imagine living a whole life as an American, accustomed to Caucasian practices, confident on the
stability of your home and career and often bragging patriotically. Then your boss decides to
have an inspection, laying off immigrant employees. Going to your mother to ask for your birth
certificate, you find out you were actually born in Mexico. You get laid off and have to work as
a servant for your wife s rich father. This was the case for Peter Griffen, the father and
protagonist in the TV series called Family Guy. While working for Carter Pewterschmidt, his
father in law, he meets another immigrant employee who helps him around the mansion and
gives him some insight on his life. Overall, the episode was a great example of one s view of the
American Dream. Its ideas were also very similar to claims made by an author regarding the
American Dream. Tim Roemer, author of America remains the world s beacon of success ,
argues that America is still prosperous and that, based on his trip overseas, foreigners still view
the U.S as a land of opportunity. Both Roemer s article and the specified episode of Family Guy

Does everyone feel sorrow? That is the initial question to a much larger problem, for it does seem
as if some people do not. In any given city you d be able to tell the difference from an emo , and a
regular . An emo not necessarily being a dark clad hater, they are just people who feel an emotionto
the extreme; someone unable to cope with this emotion in such a way as for it to be invisible to
others. Say that this feeling is sorrow. Are these people feeling more sorrow than other people do,
or are they worse at coping with the feeling? That is the greater problem.
On one hand, the people who let their darkest emotions show have issues coping with them, and
let them show on their face like art on a canvas. However, whether or not this coping arises from
the mental strength of character, from experience, or simply from honesty, is the issue that is
presented to me in my mind, and what I need to clarify on, in order to deal with it myself.
Maybe being emotional about a problem, in a way that others might recognize, makes the given
problem easier to cope with, because you in turn do not also have to cope with the problem that
you do not understand. If you carry with you an aura of dread and despair, will people not
recognize these emotions in you? You might not acknowledge so yourself, but part of the problem

In the book Ordinary Men by Christopher R. Browning, he shows a different side of the
Germans during the Final Solution, and how not every last one was a terrible person, by
explaining how some men would hide from killing, opt out altogether, or say they were just
following orders. Though there were still some who embraced their newly found jobs, this book
argues there was still a sense of morality, but does not excuse the acts that took place. However,
as much as the perpetrators were emotionally scarred, and this book does show us that, there are
still some flaws in the content used to write this book. One of the first things that became
apparent to me very quickly was that this book was not like most things you read about the
Holocaust that always portrays Germans as being horrific people, and the name implies, these
were just ordinary men. Actually, some of the men in the beginning were able to opt out of the
killings. Having explained what awaited his men, Trapp then made an extraordinary offer: if
any of the older men among them did not feel up to the task that lay before him, he could step
out. (2) The men were shown empathy as their commander was letting them have an option to
