Dress Codes Inhibit Clothing
Through the beginning of time since clothing has started being worn to cover our body parts,
standards and trends have developed itself over time by an invisible hand. Thus this created
many perceptions society starts to perceive in different ways regarding how a clothing item is
worn. Whether someone had the final say in what people wore what meant anything, we are not
sure of when and why. But how does a piece of fabric help present what an individual is just by
the aesthetics and how does what we wear affect us as the wearer? Fashionis just perceived as an
unimportant subcategory of the arts and doesn t have much to do with us but it does more than
what meets the eye. It has a lot of impact on the wearer s mindsets, dress codes inhibit... Show more

Many problems have arose over the years that consumers may not be as aware of. First off, plus
size clothing are more expensive than non plus size clothing because manufacturers claim it
requires more fabric to make. Then can they explain why shorts cost the same as jeans if not
cheaper and why do t shirts cost the same as crop tops for women? Another really big issue that
is present is how companies present their advertisements they almost always only use skinny
models to wear their clothing. It creates false ideal body image for consumers because they think
they don t look good in the item and consequently, also causes eating disorders and a lack of
confidence by many shoppers. Double standards are one of the very big issues in fashion we are
moving towards a very innovative society and it is about time we stop seeing fashion as such a
feminine thing to be interested in because men can also be self conscious about what they wear
without having to be seen as a homosexual. We also have to work towards in changing how
people perceive others predetermined by the brands they can afford. Shown in Workman s
experiment, the assumptions that people who only wear store brand jeans are seen less of a tidy
person compared to a person in high end brand jeans is not reasonable. Some of

The Unknown Of D Day
Matthew Fear Ms. Williams English 1 S1 18 April 2016 The Unknown of D Day June 6th, 1944
will be a day forever remembered in history as the beginning of the end for Nazi Control in
Western Europe. D Day, otherwise known as Operation Overlord, was a combined effort of
allied forces consisting of Americans, British, Belgium, Canadian, French, Danish, and
Norwegian military branches to free Europe from notorious German control. Many questions
involving D Day have yet to be answered, such as the ones to be listed. How did the French
Underground/French Resistance assist in the invasion? Why were paratroopers crucial to the
push inland from the beaches? Why were the German Panzer tanks kept in reserve when they
could ve pushed the allied advance back? What were the tactical failures committed by the
Germans? And what was the aftermath for the French following the invasion? Only a small
amount of information has shed light on the topic of the German s tactical blunders that occurred
on and around D Day. As stated by historical documents collected by Cornelius Ryan, who was an
Irish author who followed allied units in Europe and the Pacific during WWII, And so it was that,
one by one, senior officers from Rommel down had left the front on the very eve of the battle. All
of them had reasons, but it was almost as thought a capricious fate had manipulated their departure.

You Just Dont Understand By Deborah Tannen
Every day, at home or at workplaces, people engage in conversations involving the opposite gender.
How does gender play a critical role in a conversation? Reasonings behind the existence of
genderlect are quite complex. Bill Cosby once said Men and women belong to different species and
communication between them is a science still in it infancy (Eisenberg). Men and women are born
with the same brains. However, the way they function differently when having conversations. When
men and women communicate, men mostly use the left side of their brains while women are
capable of using both sides explaining the excellent in their multi tasking skills. Surprisingly,
biological differences are not responsible for the genderlect, but the social norms and cultural
backgrounds. These factors further differentiate conversations between men and women. Deborah
Tannen, professor of linguistics at Georgetown University has written extensively on genderlect in
her national best selling book, You Just Don t Understand: Women and Men in Conversation
. In her
book (Tannen, 1990), she explores in depth about different conversational styles of men and
women with relatable examples. She also suggests some steps that could be taken to relieve people
s frustrations towards each other s differences. Tannen s focus is mainly on the sociolinguistic side
of linguistics and the verbal communication. According to the book (1990), genderlect can be
caused by the differencein the environments people

Topic: Essay #3 (A documentary presentation)
The Thin Blue Line The Thin Blue Line is the fascinating, controversial true story of the arrest
and conviction of Randall Adams for the murder of a Dallas policeman in 1976. It was billed as
the first movie mystery to actually solve a murder. The film s title comes from prosecutor Doug
Mulder s comment during his closing argument that the police are the thin blue line separating
society from anarchy . This is a re working of a line from Rudyard Kipling s poem Tommy in
which he describes British soldiers (nicknamed Tommy Atkins ) as the thin red line , from the
color of their uniforms and their formation. The crew who helped to make that movie are: Director:

Washington Post survey of 250 film critics. Premiere magazine, in a survey of films of the

Difference Between Cricket And Cricket
Baseball vs Cricket
To many people think baseball and cricket are very similar, but the rules of hitting, fielding, and
running are completely different. They bother having someone hitting the ball and throwing, but
the traditions of the sports are what separate them completely. The two sports are argued which one
is the greatest of all time. Baseball is more common in America then Cricket. Baseball is known
as the pastime of American. It began in the late 1800 s and is very popular today. There are
many different types of baseball played all over. They go from tee ball to Major league baseball.
Kids basically grew up playing this sport in American. Hitting in baseball starts when the pitcher
toes the rubber. The pitcher throws the ball however he wants, as long as he does not deceive a
runner that is on base with his motion toward home plate. The hitter uses a round bat to hit the
round ball squarely. The batter can hit the ball wherever he wants or can. For the batter to be
called safe he has to reach first before the ball reaches first before he does. Each person who
touches home is considered one run. The hitter can hit the ball and stop at first base to get a
single, stop at second for a double, third for a triple, or home for a home run. A hitter can also get
a home run by hitting the ball over the fence. That is the ways a hitter can score in baseball.
Fielding is completely different in baseball then cricket. There are 9 fielders on the field at once.

Analysis Of Dan Brown s Angels And Demons
The book I choose for this marking period was Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Dan Brown s
father was a math teacher and his mother was a church organist. This background paved the path
where he developed a fascination with science and religion. These are themes seen in all of his
books, especially this one, where he uses the idea that science and religion are intertwined. I felt
that this story, driven by the theme of science and religion being the same thing, was a
refreshing story that stood out from what I have read recently. It gave me the opportunity to
think about the question he poses from the beginning, Is religion, specifically Christianity, the
same as science, just from a different perspective? Being Christian myself, it made me question
several of my ideas and opinions and forced me to become opened minded to the ideas that
Brown gives. After reading this book, I felt as if I understood why the church has been so against
science, and it reinforced my opinion and whether or not that was the right stance to have. This
book reminds us to think open mindedly about the connection between the church and science,
and to never allow ourselves to be so stubborn in our beliefs to realize the good that can come of
either. I also believe that even if a person has no stance on science and religion, or is indifferent to
it, it will still teach them new perspectives to think about.
The story involves Robert Langdon, a professor of religious iconology and symbology at

Gene Cloning And Bacterial Transformation
Introduction: In this lab, gene cloning and bacterial transformation was conducted. Bacteria are
single celled microorganisms. They are simple in structure and have no nucleus with linear
chromosomes. Bacteria are essential to life, and reproduction of other bacteria which helps play a
role in decomposition of organic matter and the cycling of elements such as nitrogen and carbon,
which are elements necessary to live. Due to this, plants and animals can use nitrogen to create
nucleic acids along with amino acids, which are the essential building blocks of DNA. They also
help break down food in the digestive system, which allows us to obtain the nutrients we need, and

The bacterium being observed was E. coli, which codes for green fluorescent protein. E. coli is a
bacterium that normally lives in the intestines of humans and animals alike, and can cause
infection. One hopes to observe a glow from a green fluorescent protein (GFP) which is typically
made by a jellyfish. This will be made possible by the additional presence of arabinose, which acts
as the inducing agent. The inducing agent influences the transcription of the GFP and activates the
transcriptional promoters. A promoter allows a foreign geneto fall into place much easier resulting
in gene expression. It is expected that the combination of the plasmid, with the Lysogeny Broth
(LB) and the arabinose (ARB) will transform the bacteria, and allow for growth of the bacteria in
the presence of the antibiotic ampicillin (AMP) along with an observable glow under ultraviolet
(UV) light.
Hypothesis:
The Agar plate with the LB/AMP/ARB in the +pGLO will be the only plate to display growth and
a glow when compared to the other agar plates.

On September 11th, 2001, a series of terrorist attacks orchestrated by the terrorist group al Qaeda
saw the death of almost 3,000 individuals alongside +6,000 injured people. In addition, this event
caused over 10 billion infrastructure damage and $3 trillion in total costs (Carter). Despite 15 of the

show that the nation even supported the attacks, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia faced little backlash

Over 189,000 Iraqis died directly from this conflict (Ingersoll). This is a sharp contrast
compared to the casualties that the Americans faced. Of the 1.5 million Americans that served
in Iraq between 2003 and 2011, more than 30,000 troops were wounded during the conflict and
additional 4,500 were killed in action (Koroma). As many critics of the Iraq War have pointed
out that despite the Bush administration s attempt to make Iraq and the world a better and
place the exact opposite has occurred (Harsanyi).. Prior to the conflict, Saddam Hussein
possessed an iron grip on Iraq. To secure his power he would go as far as torturing his own
people, including his own family members (Curl). However, the collapse of the Saddam
Regime left a massive power vacuum. Since the star of the conflict Iraq has become a breeding
ground for various terrorist organization vying for power of the country (Fukuyama). A
particular group that stands out from the rest is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL),
also referred to as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). However, the group has proclaimed
itself as the Islamic State since declaring itself a caliphate on June 30, 2014, in a bid to legitimate
itself from other groups (Weaver). This terrorist group has been accused of committing numerous

My Favorite Position In Baseball

Has anyone ever said you re a very athlete? Well a lot of people have came up to me and they ve
said I m very athlete. I started getting into baseball when I was really young maybe around the
age 6 years old now I am 18 years old. I started playing catcher and that s my favorite position to
play. Catching the baseball behind home plate, Tyler pitched the ball super hard. The best
position in baseball that is the most controlling is the catcher s spot behind home plate.
Whenever I go up to bat I always dig a small home with my foot to plant my foot in the dirt so I

After the Civil War, thousands of Americans poured into the Great Plains on a collision course with
western Indian tribes. Homesteaders, ranchers, and miners encroached on Indian lands and
threatened native game and ways of life. They called on the U.S. Army to crush Indian resistance
and confine tribes to government controlled reservations. The resulting white, indian conflicts often

Chemical Reaction On Energy And Carbon
Preliminary Chemistry Assessment Task 3
Research Energy and Carbon
Energy:
Photosynthesis can be considered the most important chemical reaction on Earth. Most life on
Earth is maintained using energy stored in the carbohydrate glucose produced by photosynthesis.
Green plants contain chlorophylls, pigments, which have the ability to trap light energy. The
trapped light energy is changed into chemical energy, which is stored in carbohydrates such as
glucose (C6H12O6). Photosynthesis means building up, synthesis, and using light, photo. The raw
materials for this process are carbon dioxide (CO2) gas from the atmosphere, and liquid water
(H2O) obtained through the roots of land plants. A by product of this process is oxygen (O2) gas,
which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All animals (including us humans) ultimately depend on plant material either directly or indirectly
through their herbivore prey. On top of that, all animals require the oxygen released by plants.
Without continual photosynthesis, the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere would slowly diminish.
How fossil fuels were formed:
Contrary to what many people believe, fossil fuels are not the remains of dead dinosaurs. In fact,
most of the fossil fuels we find today were formed millions of years before the first dinosaurs.
Fossil fuels, however, were once alive. They were formed from prehistoric plants and animals that
lived hundreds of millions of years ago.
Think about what the Earth must have looked like 300 million years or so ago. The land masses
we live on today were just forming. There were swamps and bogs everywhere. The climate was
warmer. Ancient trees and plants grew everywhere. Strange looking animals walked on the land,
and just as weird looking fish swam in the rivers and seas. Tiny one celled organisms called
protoplankton floated in the ocean.
When these ancient living things died, they decomposed and became buried under layers and
layers of mud, rock, and sand. Eventually, hundreds and sometimes thousands of feet of earth
covered them. In some areas, the decomposing materials were covered by ancient seas, then the
seas dried up and receded.
During the millions of years that passed, the

Conventions In The Film Harold And Maude
In the Hal Ashby film, Harold and Maude, Ashby uses the conventions of the romantic comedy to
bring Harold and Maude together in order to show the audience that life should be lived while being
the truest person they can be. This film uses the conventions of romantic comedy to make a film
that celebrates nonconformity and choosing ones own path in life rather than one that is
predetermined by others. Ashby uses several conventions in order to show the importance of
nonconformity and choosing your own path in life; it uses the conventions of meeting, separating,
and uniting, spontaneously bursting into song, the idea of the unruly woman, the characterizing
Harold and Maudeas foils of each other to show this theme.

Harold and Maude are opposites in their views of death and life in the beginning of the film.
Harold is obsessed with death and goes to funeral and demolition sites for fun. He does not go
there to enjoy what life there was in the objects before their demise, but to obsess over the decay
and death. This is due to his mother s reaction when he blows up the chemistry room at his
boarding school and is told of his death. She faints for the attention of the police officers and the
partygoers. As Harold tells Maude, she reached out as if groping for support and with this long
sigh, she collapsed in their arms (Harold and Maude). To his mother, Harold s death was just a
way for her to gain attention. Harold also begins seeing his suicides as a way to get attention,
and he begins practicing for his own death instead of living his own life. As Harold tells Maude,
I haven t lived. I ve died a few times. (Harold and Maude). This shows Harold s preoccupation
with his suicides and his eventual death. Maude is instead obsessed with life. She goes to
funerals in order to celebrate the life that was lived before the death, and goes to greenhouses to
see how things grow and live. As she tells Harold, I like to watch things grow (Harold and Maude).
Maude s obsession with life is what allows Harold to learn how to live. Since she enjoys watching

Sweatshops Problem
Bangladesh is considered to be among the worst locations of sweatshops with ...more than 4,800

Australia contributes to this issue by having retailers which use the sweatshops and order clothes

the only way Australia is contributing, Australian organisations also try to help this situation, for

Sweatshops in Bangladesh can have negative and positive impacts on the workers and society as

The Unethical Decisions of Cutting Corners on Construction...
Ethics
The reason that most people go into construction is because it is a job skill that can be used world
wide, and there are many different ways to make a decent living. Due to the current economic
situation, the construction business has been sluggish. Contractors have been earning a smaller
amount than they used to and this causes, most contractors and subs to cut corners and the
customer or owner pays the ultimate price of lousy job. Most of these activities are unethical and
dangerous.
Ethics is described as the duty as a person to do the righteous actions and have respectable morals.
If someone is ethical then he or she will be able to associate between what is right and wrong, and
carry out ethical acts in all situations. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Situational ethics can be when hard hats are required when working outside the building but not
when inside due to the heat. Ethical behavior should not wave around but steady and firm. One
of the major areas in which ethics have to be implemented and is tied into is safety. Even though
safety is everyone s job, it is theoretically the job of the contractor to safety, which is ethical and
moral part of the job. As a contractor, he is the one in charge to provide and enforce a safe
working environment and also hiring a safety engineer to oversee this part of the project. If the
contractor defrauds on safety for any reason, it is considered unethical. Due to this stringent rules
and previous mistakes, this is a big priority that must be done.
Unethical practices in construction are bid rigging, bid shopping, and front end loading. These are
all forms of collusion that are unethical and schemes that are associated with the construction
business. Bid rigging is the way that scheming competing contractors effectively increase the
prices where owners are often federal, state, or local governments. They acquire services by put
out competing bids; in which, competitors agree in before hand who will be submitting the
accepted bid on a contract that is being handed into the competitive bids. This is a scheme that a lot
of big name contractors would use to help each other out, but the owner is the one paying and
loosing out. Bid shopping when

Balanced Scorecards Of Managerial Accounting
Balanced Scorecards in Managerial Accounting There is a great deal of struggles Managers face
when it comes to accounting related decisions. Financial reports are often conducive in coming
up with resolutions regarding company operations, but they don t necessarily contribute to the
direct goals and missions of said companies. Individuals such as Nolan Norton and Robert
Kaplan were among the first group to recognize the dilemma of solely relying on financial
reports and the outcome resulted in what is now known as a balanced scorecard (Bible, Kerr,
Zanini, 2006, p. 18). In an article written by Larry Bitner and Mary Myers (2010), Kaplan and

18). What eventually resulted from these meetings is the balanced scorecard. According to
Bible, Kerr, and Zanini (2006), Kaplan and Nolan s group: Companies use four common
perspectives in their scorecard, supplementing these with a number of customized perspectives
as needed. The four perspectives were: financial, customer, internal, and innovation and
learning. Each perspective helped answer a basic performance question: How do we look to
shareholders? How do customers see us? What must we excel at? Can we improve and create
value? (p. 19) This concept was initially summarized in an article in the Harvard Business
Review in 1992 followed by two subsequent articles to expand and improve the strategy with the
third article setting new standards and encouraging companies from all over to adopt the ideas
companies (Bible et al., 2006, p. 19). Since it was originally published the concept of the balanced
scorecard has changed and grown significantly. The main goal of the balanced scorecard as
described by Loreta ValanДЌienД— and Edita GimЕѕauskienД— (2007) is [to measure]
consistency of organizational strategic goals and measures for their achievements . Basically it

Friction is also important because it s what the skateboarder must use to control the board s rotation
when generating a second torque to spin the board. Lastly, an understanding of inertia is necessary
to understand how the trick comes to completion.
Explanation:
In order to do any skateboard tick the Ollie must first be used. This is the foundation to all
skateboard tricks, since this allows you to get off the ground. Before the Ollie can be explained it
s paramount to understand Newton s three laws. The first law sates: an object continues in a state
of rest or in a state of motion at a constant velocity (constant speed in a constant direction), unless
compelled to change that state by a net force. Sometimes this law is referred to as the law of
inertia, where inertia is explained as being the natural tendency of an object to remain at rest or in
motion at a constant velocity. The second law states that: when a net external force acts on an
object of mass m, the acceleration that results is directly proportional to the net force and has a
magnitude that is inversely proportional to the mass. The direction of the acceleration is the same
as the direction of the net force. Lastly, the third law states: Whenever one object exerts a force on
a second object, the second object exerts an oppositely directed force of equal magnitude on the
first object. By knowing these three laws we can

a.The overall topic is to examine how two treatments (EMDR and COMET) help decrease low self
esteem in anxiety disorders. The rationale for this study is that based on previous research is that
there is not much information on the relationship between and treating low self esteem in people
who have anxiety.
b.Hypothesis:
i.EMDR would decrease negative self esteem and that COMET would increase positive self
esteem, and the overall effect on self esteem would be almost equivalent. ii. Treatment order will
affect outcome, COMET EMDR would not have a better outcome than EMDR COMET.
c.Method:
i.The design of the study was a randomized controlled trial with a crossover design. ii. The

Family Guy Analysis
Imagine living a whole life as an American, accustomed to Caucasian practices, confident on the
stability of your home and career and often bragging patriotically. Then your boss decides to
have an inspection, laying off immigrant employees. Going to your mother to ask for your birth
certificate, you find out you were actually born in Mexico. You get laid off and have to work as
a servant for your wife s rich father. This was the case for Peter Griffen, the father and
protagonist in the TV series called Family Guy. While working for Carter Pewterschmidt, his
father in law, he meets another immigrant employee who helps him around the mansion and
gives him some insight on his life. Overall, the episode was a great example of one s view of the
American Dream. Its ideas were also very similar to claims made by an author regarding the
American Dream. Tim Roemer, author of America remains the world s beacon of success ,
argues that America is still prosperous and that, based on his trip overseas, foreigners still view
the U.S as a land of opportunity. Both Roemer s article and the specified episode of Family Guy
serve to demonstrate how people outside of the US still admire the country as a whole, believe
America is the goal for studying and that although other countries are facing devastating challenges,
people can still prosper in the U.S.
Initially, Tim Roemer explains foreign views of the United States, which contributes to his first
argument that the U.S is still admired

Examples Of Superstitions
A superstition is a set of thoughts that are incongruent with reality, which lead to a series of
doings, behaviours and beliefs that an object or action that is not related to a group of events
influences its outcomes (Akova, 2011; Damisch, Stoberock, Mussweiler, 2010). There are
superstitious people all around the world, with different religions, beliefs, cultures and traditions
(Akova, 2011).
Superstitions can serve to give either good or bad luck, some examples can be: crossing fingers,
four leaf clovers, knocking on wood, breaking a mirror, seeing a black cat, opening an umbrella
inside the house, or even a set of steps self made before an event (Akova, 2011).
Skinner proved that superstitious behaviours do not only occur in humans by doing an experiment
with a group of hungry pigeons. For a few minutes each day, he gave the ... Show more content on

This paranormal belief may be the result of those with an external locus of control attempting to
deal with the uncontrollability of their lives. On the contrary, individuals who present an internal
locus of control do not necessarily hold superstitions, probably because they do not have the need
of coping with the uncontrollability of their lives (Stanke Taylor, 2004).
Religiosity and superstition
In many studies, it has been found that religiosity correlates with the occurrence of superstitious
behaviours and paranormal beliefs. Apparently, a higher degree of religiosity correlates with a
higher frequency of reporting beliefs in paranormal experiences or the supernatural (Stanke Taylor,
2004).
However, religion considers superstitions as extravagant and irrational, but religion itself could be
practiced in a superstitious way, not actually believing in god but praying once in a while and
attending church just in case (Delacroix Guillard, 2008).

Bank Of Americ Talent Management Program
Assignment 1: Bank of America Talent Management Program The talent management program that
facilitates the realization of the objective of improving efficiency in operations at the Bank of
America entails the use of an integrative system in preparing individuals for leadership. According
to the program, the management prioritizes global consistencies as the first step in the
identification of talent for retention at the bank. The subsequent considerations are cultural
distinctiveness and individual owners. As part of its strategy, the bank infuses the three elements to
facilitate the recruitment of the employees with the ability to fulfill the organization s objectives.

There is also the utilization of the scientific tools in the simulation of situations. For this reason, the
program tests individual s competencies; thus making it easier for the administration to retain best
in the organization for longer periods. Strengths of the program The advantages of the program are
that it enables the institution to broaden its scope to target employees from different parts of the
globe unlike the situation before in which the management relied on domestic talent in running
operations. Aside from facilitating consensus in decision making, the program enhances flexibility
in operations. For instance, after its integration in human resource administration at the Bank of
America it became the norm for the organization to customize its goal in line with the needs of the
employees. Additionally, it presents management the opportunity to employ a diverse array of
tactics in the selection of personnel to serve the organization in various capacities. Courtesy of its
existence at the Bank of America, the institution has the chance of searching talent beyond borders,
thus creating the opportunity for the most competent individual to serve the organization in various
capacities. Another maverick of the program is that it emphasizes on the continuity in the
advancement of talent nurturing,

Marijuana Legalization Pros And Cons
High Times There have been four states along with the District of Columbia that have allowed
marijuana for recreational usage since 2012. Colorado is the Christopher Columbus of this social
experiment and has spurred numerous opinions, both good and bad. Recreational marijuana has had
many benefits for Colorado such as economic growth, improved safety through regulations, and
overall socialunification. Make sure your thesis makes a claim that is arguable. To begin with,
Colorado benefitted from economic growth through taxation and job creation. According to the

John Hudak of the Brookings Institute, even with the legalization in full effect, the sky has not

functions without crises.
Recreational marijuana has overall positively affected Colorado in the following ways:

legalization of marijuana was implemented in other states, national revenue would increase, the

Sorrow Definition

Sorrow
Does everyone feel sorrow? That is the initial question to a much larger problem, for it does seem
as if some people do not. In any given city you d be able to tell the difference from an emo , and a
regular . An emo not necessarily being a dark clad hater, they are just people who feel an emotionto
the extreme; someone unable to cope with this emotion in such a way as for it to be invisible to
others. Say that this feeling is sorrow. Are these people feeling more sorrow than other people do,
or are they worse at coping with the feeling? That is the greater problem.
On one hand, the people who let their darkest emotions show have issues coping with them, and
let them show on their face like art on a canvas. However, whether or not this coping arises from
the mental strength of character, from experience, or simply from honesty, is the issue that is
presented to me in my mind, and what I need to clarify on, in order to deal with it myself.
Maybe being emotional about a problem, in a way that others might recognize, makes the given
problem easier to cope with, because you in turn do not also have to cope with the problem that
you do not understand. If you carry with you an aura of dread and despair, will people not
recognize these emotions in you? You might not acknowledge so yourself, but part of the problem
in concealing sorrow arises from the fact that everyone else carries on the way they did before. Life

Morality In Christopher R. Browning s Ordinary Men
In the book Ordinary Men by Christopher R. Browning, he shows a different side of the
Germans during the Final Solution, and how not every last one was a terrible person, by
explaining how some men would hide from killing, opt out altogether, or say they were just
following orders. Though there were still some who embraced their newly found jobs, this book
argues there was still a sense of morality, but does not excuse the acts that took place. However,
as much as the perpetrators were emotionally scarred, and this book does show us that, there are
still some flaws in the content used to write this book. One of the first things that became
apparent to me very quickly was that this book was not like most things you read about the
Holocaust that always portrays Germans as being horrific people, and the name implies, these
were just ordinary men. Actually, some of the men in the beginning were able to opt out of the
killings. Having explained what awaited his men, Trapp then made an extraordinary offer: if
any of the older men among them did not feel up to the task that lay before him, he could step
out. (2) The men were shown empathy as their commander was letting them have an option to
not take part in what awaited them. Again, talking about the same commander, But he did not go
to the forest itself or witness the executions; his absence there was conspicuous. (59) He did
what he could to stay away from the systematic executions of the Jewish people, and his men
took note of that. However, there were some instances that almost all of the men knew something
was not okay about what they were doing. I would like to say that almost tacitly everyone
refrained from shooting infants and small children. (59) All of these accounts reinforce how the
men reacted to what they were asked to do initially, and how some opt out altogether. There were
some men though, those who wanted to be career military men that took to other ways of getting
over what they were tasked with. There came a time when the men were no longer offered an out,
and to escape the executions they would volunteer to guard, or hide out in the woods. Those who
shot did not have to live with the clear awareness that what they had done had been

The Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
The benefits of extracurricular activities is extensive. The positive effects that extracurricular
activities have on students are behavior, better grades, school completion, positive aspects to
become successful adults, and a social aspect. (Massoni, 2011). There are greater positives than
negatives with participation in extracurricular activities.
One benefit is to learn about time management and prioritizing things in their life (Burgess, 2009).
Adolescents need to learn how to be a handle the multiple responsibilities which will give them vital
experience by participating in these activities (Burgess, 2009). Participating in extracurricular
activities provides positive aspects that students need to become productive students and adults
(Massoni, 2011). By participating in extracurricular activities students learn lessons in leadership,
teamwork, organization, analytical thinking, problem solving, time management, learning to juggle
many tasks at once which can allow them to discover their talents at young age for preparation in
their future (Massoni, 2011).
When a student decides they want to join an extracurricular activity, they look for one that interests
them and one that they like or enjoy. It is important for students to join and participate in
extracurricular activities because it helps the student when they apply to colleges (Burgess, 2009).

The Hudson Bay s Company
Introduction
The Hudson Bay s Company is the oldest department store in North America. It is Canada s iconic
department store which was founded in 1670. The Hudson s Bay Company began with fur trading.
After fur trading lost significance, the Bay had followed a different direction to create stores with
a large variety of items. It did not take long for Hudson Bay to establish their department stores
across Canada.
Target Market
The Hudson s Bay Company is higher end department store that offers high quality items. In
Winnipeg, there are 3 locations; one in St. Vital which is known for their middle class shoppers.
The second location is the Downtown location which is popular among the downtown workers
who shop during their lunch break or after their work day is over. The downtown location was
the largest location in Winnipeg, over the past few years, they have begun to diminution the size
on their store, slowing decreasing the amount of floors they occupied. The third location is the
Polo Park location which is located in an upper class shopping center. All of the three locations
serve to a slightly different target market. The location that this paper will focus on is the Polo
Park Hudson s Bay. Polo Park Hudson s Bay is located in an upper scale shopping mall. The

There have been recently scandals in which the famous men of Hollywood are being charged
with sexual assault or harassment and acting inappropriately around women. Women are
suffering from these problems especially in the workplace as of late and in a society in which
values women more there are still some that don t yet because they don t treat women with
respect that they deserve. It seems that some of these men are living in the past and want
women for the sexual pleasure that they are supposed to provide to men. Christina Pazzanese
and Colleen Walsh in their article The Woman s Revolt: Why now, and where to argues how the
Me Too movement can spark changes to society as more people become aware of these
problems. Before the scandals in Hollywood not many people took the problems of sexual
assault and harassment to be much of a problem and therefore there would be no change. This is
why the women in the Me Too movement want more women to speak up on these problems that
they have been suffering from so that more people become aware of it. The article provides a
quote which is as follows, But, unless feminists (and the media, and the national audience) start
doing a better job of highlighting and listening to the voices of people who have been doubly
marginalized, such as women of color and those of lower socioeconomic status, there will be
important limits on what can be accomplished. Society cannot doubt what women say because
society downplays some of these accounts of sexual assault because they don t believe the woman
is a victim. They need to understand how hard it is for women to talk about this because it
traumatizes them and are sometimes stopped from saying anything by the men because there will
be consequences. As soon as people understand this then people will be susceptible to change
because they know that it is

The Importance of the Economic Factors in the Rise to Power of the Fascist Party in Italy
Fascism came on the heels of a war that economically and physically crippled Italy. In an attempt to
regain control, Italian general and dictator, Benito Mussolini created a political party that rivalled
the Socialist party. Fascism was an extremely harsh dictatorship type of power that left many
people a victim of its cruelty. This essay will explore whether the rise of fascism was due to the
economic breakdown in the country at that time, or was that fascism was simply so popular at that
time that nothing would have stopped it? Was it the threat of bolshevism driving people towards

The problem of unemployment was aggravated by the return of millions of ex soldiers to Italy and
a new immigration law of the U.S. government, which restricted entry of immigrants. Moreover,
runaway inflation added to the sufferings of the Italians. The lira had only one fifth of its pre war
value. Encouraged by the success of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, the unemployed workers
and peasants stirred up riots and strikes throughout the country. At that time the government was
incompetent. It failed to take control of the conditions in the country. Gradually the nationalists
grouped together to emerge as the fascist party. According to Ketelby, author of the book History of
modern time Europe,
It was the urgent need of a strong unifying force that formed the background for the rise of fascism
in Italy.
These political crises may have pushed the leaders of Italy into supporting fascism. The people
were restless they wished for an effective government. Many were turning to socialism, others to
fascism. The King and aristocracy may not have supported fascism but seen it as the lesser evil
compared to the red menace. Economic factors such as the high unemployment figures and the
inflation pushed the people away from the weak government and

Native Americans And The American Indians
The American Indians have lived in the United States since the beginning of this nation. Divided in
small groups called tribes, they lived in harmony. With a great sense of spirituality, the Native
Americans worshiped nature, the moon, sun, rain, earth, etc. Without exploitation, they learned
how to use the natural resources to survive, having as their principal occupation hunting, fishing,
and farming. However, when Europeans colonist came to America looking for freedom of religion
or economic opportunity, the Indian s peaceful life was interrupted. Natives Americans never

Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Cherokees, to sign a treaty yielding a large amount of land from north to

Two years later, the Indians attacked the white settlers living in the disputed land.
By this time in the history, violence between the two groups had reached one of highest points.
In 1970 and 1971, leading by a Miami warrior called Little Turtle , the Indians defeated the
United States forces winning two major battles. Indians never again defeated United State Forces
as they did in the battle at the Wabash River in 1791 (p156). Due to the impossibility of a
negotiation with the Indians, General Anthony Wayne, led 4,000 soldiers into the Ohio Valley in
1794 and defeated the Indians in the Battle of Fallen Timbers (p.156). Once again, in 1789, under
the Treaty of Greenville , Indians ceded a huge amount of land to the United States in exchange of
acquired rights on the land they will keep (p.156). Unfortunately, no treaty could protect the Indians
for the white s ambition of acquire more and more land.
The United Sates, functioning now under the constitution, still has not recognized tribes as citizens
and legal entities. As consequence, Indians were underrepresented in the new established
government. Native American tribes claimed sovereignty in their own

Moisture can be gained or lost from the air based conditions from the surrounding environment
or how the pinewood is stored. As water is soaked into the pine wood the wood will start to
contract due to all the moisture it has gained, if the pine wood is freshly cut from the pine tree
and is exposed to air the wood will immediately begin to lose moisture and the wood will not
contract at this point of time. Pine wood is cheap and very affordable to buy from hardware
stores and other stores that supply pine wood. Pine wood is readily available in hardware stores,
timber yards, and pinewood suppliers.
The advantages of pine wood is it s cheap and it s a renewable resource. Pinewood is fast growing

This study investigated the levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and heavy metal residues in
shellfish (shrimp, oyster and crab) collected from three Egyptian Governorates (Ismailia, Damietta
and Alexandria). Levels of 12 OCPs such as hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), aldrin, endrin and
dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs) residues were investigated. The dominant detected OCPs
were ОІ HCH, p,p DDE and endrin. In general, contamination pattern of OCPs was in the order of
other OCPs (HCB, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, aldrin, endrin and Оі chlordane) HCHs DDTs.
Residual concentrations of some heavy metals and trace elements were also estimated. The highest
residual levels of OCPs and heavy metals were detected in oysters collected from Damietta. The
concentrations of OCPs and heavy metals in examined shellfish, generally, were below the
maximum residual level set by United States Food and Drug Administration and FAO. Therefore,
shellfish collected from these studied sites could be considered safe for human consumption.

Interoperability can be linked to early civilization times when people would network, exchange
goods and travel by long distances. There are two definitions that explain the functioning of
interoperability. The first is having the ability of two or more systems to exchange information and
the ability of those systems to use the information that has been exchanged (Fridsma, 2013).
Interoperability has three core fundamentals: Foundational, structural, and semantic.
The foundational concept allows the data exchange from one information technology system to be
received by another, but does not require the ability for the receiving end to interpret the data
(Levy, 2014). An example of this would be hospital environmental services being able to use the
same program to see what patient rooms need cleaning, that the physicians, nurses and other core
staff, but just the basics. They would not have access to patient s medical records, treatment plans
and E Mar orders; however they may be able to see if the patient has MRSA or contact precautions.
Another example of the foundational concept of interoperability is the lab sending test results in
Microsoft Word, the nurse would have to download the attachment print it and read the document
and interpret it to other health team members. Once it s analyzed by all parties, if feedback is

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Noc
ABSTRACT
Network on chip (NoC) is the most reasonable and efficient solution for connecting the numerous
cores in a System on Chip(SoC). In conventional NoC architectures neighboring routers are
connected via hard wired unidirectional communication channels. Due to the uneven and
unpredictable nature of traffic patterns in NoC, one channel might be overflowed due to heavy
traffic in one direction where as the other unidirectional channel is idle, thus causing performance
degradation, data loss and incompetent resource utilization. So as a cure for this problem, a

Intellect By Ralph Waldo Emerson Poem
Often regarded as the leader of the Transcendentalist literary movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson
believed that the individual must look inward to find truth and knowledge. He emphatically
stressed that one must practice self reliance: the ability to trust one s intuition and not conform
to societal standards. Through the use of strict form, powerful imagery, and a wise tone,
Emerson s poem Intellect urges us to stay true to ourselves by refusing the practice of blind
obedience. The form of Intellect is comprised of just six lines which suggests a call to action for
the reader to listen to his wise words. The short form produces a riddle like tone; it follows a
strict rhyme scheme and a very strong rhythm. The lines are end rhymed this, coupled with the
length of the poem produces an almost child like simplicity. The morals hidden in Intellect aren t
simple per se, nevertheless we are reminded of the riddles of our primary school days; we
remember the catchy rhythm and traditional morals we learned from these riddles. The rhythm and
meter are also vital aspects of this poem s structure: each line contains seven syllables and begins
with a stressed syllable. This didactic rhythm jumps out of the page at the reader, causing us to
pay attention. The stressed and unstressed syllable pattern produces a sing song effect; the poem
beckons us to listen to the wise counsel of Emerson with a child like openness and implores the
reader to find the moral that Emerson is trying to get across. The imagery of Intellect is
challenging: the poem features a fountain, a wave, the shore, and wings all in just six lines. This
abstract imagery allows us to tap into our own intellect and it leaves room for the reader to
interpret its meaning. Let us contemplate the fountain first. A fountain is often used to symbolise
the source for something desirable: whether it be a drinking fountain, a fountain of youth, or the
fountain of life we come across in Christian doctrine. Often times we crave rules; or we might just
crave direction or someone to tell us what to do. Unfortunately, the source of these rules is often
society. We choose to listen to the voice of society for direction, instead of turning inward. Perhaps

The Interrogation Methods
Torture has been around for a very long time. Military leader Napoleon wrote an anti torture letter in
1798 saying, The barbarous custom of having men beaten who are suspected of having important
secrets to reveal must be abolished. It has always been recognized that this way of interrogating
men, by putting them to torture, produces nothing worthwhile. The poor wretches say anything that
comes into their mind and what they think the interrogator wishes to know. The interrogation
methods are a problem for many reasons. One, the methods waste time. Secondly, there are other
ways to get information besides torture. If the CIA is clever, they could acquire more information,
and faster. A student of Australia s Charles Sturt University conducted a study on what methods
work in the CIA. She interviewed thirty four interrogators and found that disclosure was fourteen
times as likely in a situation that was of physical comfort, and it was... Show more content on

People began to question the efficiency of the method since it only proved to waste valuable time.
Two other suspects of the 9/11 attacks also had the waterboarding torture method inflicted upon
them. One suspect was waterboarded twice, while the other was waterboarded one hundred eighty
three times. Most of the information attained was useless. CIA reports say that these three were the
only prisoners to be waterboarded, but that also proved not to be true. The technique has been used
against other prisoners, and in one case, resuscitation was necessary. The torture the CIA uses goes
against the Constitution and therefore is wrong. Some may argue(and some have) that torture
should be allowed on terrorists since they threatened the nation, but in reality, about a quarter of the
people being tortured in the CIA prison are actually

How Is Julius Caesar Justified
Friends turn on each other all the time, but not like Brutus and Caesar. William Shakespeare s
play, Julius Caesar revolves around Caesar s assassination and the outcomes surrounding it.
Brutus is one of Caesar s closest friends but is convinced to help murder him. The murder takes
place before Caesar gains controls of Rome, as a measure of preemptive action. Brutus s
precautionary action against Caesar is not justified because he does not have proof, Caesar is a
good man, and it makes things worse for Rome. Though Caesar receives over thirty stab wounds,
there is not one reason for murdering him. Many people believe he wants to be a dictator, but they
have no proof of this claim. During the first act, Casca explains to Cassius and Brutus what all the
commotion is, I saw Mark Antonyoffer him a crown..he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At Caesar s funeral, Antony proves how good Caesar really was. In his will, he left seventy five
drachmas to each citizen as well as all of his property. When the citizens hear this, they
immediately want to avenge his death, We ll burn his body in the holy place, And with the
brands fire the traitors houses (3.2.244 245). The citizens realize what a mistake it is to kill a
great man and ruler like Caesar and even take matters into their own hands, saying they will burn
down houses and erupt in chaos. The citizens are not the only ones who are saddened by Caesar
s death, Brutus is as well. Brutus s guilt haunts him with ghosts of Caesar visiting him in his
sleep multiple times. The first time he sees the ghost he does not believe it, he asks Lucius, Didst
thou dream, Lucius, that thou so criedst out? To which Lucius answers, My lord, I did not know
that I did cry, (4.3.301 302). If Brutus believes he made the right decision he would not be
haunted by Caesar s ghost. Brutus even believes that Caesar is a good man, which is why he feels

Diffusion And Diffusion Of Diffusion
Cultural Diffusion Diffusion occurs when people, their ideas and things move from one location
to another location. There are several types of diffusion that can occur. According to The Human
Mosaic there are five types of diffusion that can occur. The first type of diffusion that occurs is
called relocation diffusion. Relocation diffusion occurs when an individual or individuals migrate
and bring along certain traits and ideas with them to the new location. Examples of traits that some
people bring with them are their languages, certain mannerisms, religions, their dress and even
their diet. One example of a trait that is highly diffused is Christianity. We can see from the map
on page 28 and 29 that Christianity is a religion that is highly diffused throughout many countries.
From the map it shows that Christianity is found in locations such as Australia, Brazil, USA and
Russia (Smith 28,29). Another type of diffusion is expansion diffusion. During expansion
diffusion, practices and ideas are spread over a population from one area to the next having a
snowball effect. Expansion diffusion has a total of three different subtypes. The first subtype of
expansion diffusion is hierarchical diffusion. With Hierarchical diffusion only select populations
are affected by traits and ideas being diffused. Hierarchical diffusion is thought to affect individuals
who are of higher importance or from one urban area to another urban area, skipping the rural
places in between. An

The element mercury was known to ancient Egypt and China....
The element mercury was known to ancient Egypt and China. They used it thinking it would
prolong their life. It is one of the metal which is liquid in normal pressure and temperature.
Which helps us to understand many parameters which are dependent on pressure and
temperature. It was recognized as an element by A. L. Lavoisier in the 18th century. Some of the
properties of the element are as follows. Chemical name Mercury Chemical symbol Hg Atomic

It is also used in making switches and various other electronic apparatus. It is also used in make
thermometers and barometers because of its greatest density of 13.534 gm cm to power of 3, it
does not need a large tube to measure the pressure and thermometer. Like in a barometer if we
use water then we would need a tube of 10.4m to measure the atmospheric temperature but if we
use mercury we can measure the atmospheric temperature in a tube on only 0.76m. In a
thermometers because of its large range of the boiling and melting points, it helps us to measure
a large range of temperature. It also been used for making batteries. It can also be used to dental
amalgams. Mercury is used to make dental amalgam because when it is mixed with amalgam
powder, the compound it creates is soft enough to press on the tooth. it also becomes hard very
fast which helps it to withstand the force of biting. But it has raised question on whether it is
safe and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) evaluated the research and told it is safe for
people above 6 years of age. **** One of the disadvantage of mercury is that it is toxic in nature
due to which it has to be handled with care. Due to which it can result in death of people if they
get mercury poisoning and if it is not treated in time. Due to mercury we are now able to make
thermometers and barometers which has helped the people a lot. Due to it has helped us to find

Registered nurses and members of various professions exchange knowledge and ideas about how to

Clear Vision, Inc. is currently focused on promoting its newest product Liquid Drop Contact

contact lenses industry, but it is mainly going to emphasize this product s novelty and the resulting
innovative attitudes that the masses need to employ with regard to it. Even with the fact that the

How Did The Reaganomics Affect The Economy
From a liberal perspective, the Reagan Revolution was insignificant for the United States. For
example, Reagan s plan was to stimulate the economy by introducing the Reaganomics. He
lowered tax rates, which left more money for individuals and businesses to spend, save, or invest.
President Reagan cut federal taxes by 25 percent over a three year period, but the economy
continued to struggle for two years and the unemployment rate rose. Although, the personal income
grew in the 1980s, the income gap between the rich and poor widened. The Reaganomics assisted
the rich, but hurt the poor. These taxcuts would raise wealth among the rich and then would trickle
down to all Americans. The problem with that is that the middle class Americans would have to
wait for trickle effect.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to Reaganomics, the federal budget deficits climbed in his years in office. Before
President Reagan was in office the budget deficits were below $75 billion and then from 1982 to
1989 the annual deficit surpassed $100 billion. The Department of Defense annual budget
increased approximately 85 percent. During his presidency the national debt tripled from $908
billion in 1980 to $2.6 trillion in 1988. Liberals believed that the debt was acceptable if the
government invested in education, transportation, healthcare, and other economic and social issues.
When President Reagan was in office, he cut most of the programs that President Johnson had
created to benefit the low income families. The government spending did not make all Americans
prosper. The social issues were not solved because the government spent the money other issues
like to pay for the interest on the debt. Today, these social problems still remain a problem in the

  • 2. Dress Codes Inhibit Clothing Through the beginning of time since clothing has started being worn to cover our body parts, standards and trends have developed itself over time by an invisible hand. Thus this created many perceptions society starts to perceive in different ways regarding how a clothing item is worn. Whether someone had the final say in what people wore what meant anything, we are not sure of when and why. But how does a piece of fabric help present what an individual is just by the aesthetics and how does what we wear affect us as the wearer? Fashionis just perceived as an unimportant subcategory of the arts and doesn t have much to do with us but it does more than what meets the eye. It has a lot of impact on the wearer s mindsets, dress codes inhibit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many problems have arose over the years that consumers may not be as aware of. First off, plus size clothing are more expensive than non plus size clothing because manufacturers claim it requires more fabric to make. Then can they explain why shorts cost the same as jeans if not cheaper and why do t shirts cost the same as crop tops for women? Another really big issue that is present is how companies present their advertisements they almost always only use skinny models to wear their clothing. It creates false ideal body image for consumers because they think they don t look good in the item and consequently, also causes eating disorders and a lack of confidence by many shoppers. Double standards are one of the very big issues in fashion we are moving towards a very innovative society and it is about time we stop seeing fashion as such a feminine thing to be interested in because men can also be self conscious about what they wear without having to be seen as a homosexual. We also have to work towards in changing how people perceive others predetermined by the brands they can afford. Shown in Workman s experiment, the assumptions that people who only wear store brand jeans are seen less of a tidy person compared to a person in high end brand jeans is not reasonable. Some of ... The Unknown Of D Day Matthew Fear Ms. Williams English 1 S1 18 April 2016 The Unknown of D Day June 6th, 1944 will be a day forever remembered in history as the beginning of the end for Nazi Control in Western Europe. D Day, otherwise known as Operation Overlord, was a combined effort of allied forces consisting of Americans, British, Belgium, Canadian, French, Danish, and Norwegian military branches to free Europe from notorious German control. Many questions involving D Day have yet to be answered, such as the ones to be listed. How did the French Underground/French Resistance assist in the invasion? Why were paratroopers crucial to the push inland from the beaches? Why were the German Panzer tanks kept in reserve when they could ve pushed the allied advance back? What were the tactical failures committed by the Germans? And what was the aftermath for the French following the invasion? Only a small amount of information has shed light on the topic of the German s tactical blunders that occurred on and around D Day. As stated by historical documents collected by Cornelius Ryan, who was an Irish author who followed allied units in Europe and the Pacific during WWII, And so it was that, one by one, senior officers from Rommel down had left the front on the very eve of the battle. All of them had reasons, but it was almost as thought a capricious fate had manipulated their departure. (Ryan 106). • 4. You Just Dont Understand By Deborah Tannen Every day, at home or at workplaces, people engage in conversations involving the opposite gender. How does gender play a critical role in a conversation? Reasonings behind the existence of genderlect are quite complex. Bill Cosby once said Men and women belong to different species and communication between them is a science still in it infancy (Eisenberg). Men and women are born with the same brains. However, the way they function differently when having conversations. When men and women communicate, men mostly use the left side of their brains while women are capable of using both sides explaining the excellent in their multi tasking skills. Surprisingly, biological differences are not responsible for the genderlect, but the social norms and cultural backgrounds. These factors further differentiate conversations between men and women. Deborah Tannen, professor of linguistics at Georgetown University has written extensively on genderlect in her national best selling book, You Just Don t Understand: Women and Men in Conversation . In her book (Tannen, 1990), she explores in depth about different conversational styles of men and women with relatable examples. She also suggests some steps that could be taken to relieve people s frustrations towards each other s differences. Tannen s focus is mainly on the sociolinguistic side of linguistics and the verbal communication. According to the book (1990), genderlect can be caused by the differencein the environments people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was billed as the first movie mystery to actually solve a murder. The film s title comes from prosecutor Doug Mulder s comment during his closing argument that the police are the thin blue line separating society from anarchy . This is a re working of a line from Rudyard Kipling s poem Tommy in which he describes British soldiers (nicknamed Tommy Atkins ) as the thin red line , from the color of their uniforms and their formation. • 6. Difference Between Cricket And Cricket Baseball vs Cricket To many people think baseball and cricket are very similar, but the rules of hitting, fielding, and running are completely different. They bother having someone hitting the ball and throwing, but the traditions of the sports are what separate them completely. The two sports are argued which one is the greatest of all time. Baseball is more common in America then Cricket. Baseball is known as the pastime of American. It began in the late 1800 s and is very popular today. There are many different types of baseball played all over. They go from tee ball to Major league baseball. Kids basically grew up playing this sport in American. Hitting in baseball starts when the pitcher toes the rubber. The pitcher throws the ball however he wants, as long as he does not deceive a runner that is on base with his motion toward home plate. The hitter uses a round bat to hit the round ball squarely. The batter can hit the ball wherever he wants or can. For the batter to be called safe he has to reach first before the ball reaches first before he does. Each person who touches home is considered one run. The hitter can hit the ball and stop at first base to get a single, stop at second for a double, third for a triple, or home for a home run. A hitter can also get a home run by hitting the ball over the fence. That is the ways a hitter can score in baseball. Fielding is completely different in baseball then cricket. There are 9 fielders on the field at once. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of Dan Brown s Angels And Demons The book I choose for this marking period was Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Dan Brown s father was a math teacher and his mother was a church organist. This background paved the path where he developed a fascination with science and religion. These are themes seen in all of his books, especially this one, where he uses the idea that science and religion are intertwined. I felt that this story, driven by the theme of science and religion being the same thing, was a refreshing story that stood out from what I have read recently. It gave me the opportunity to think about the question he poses from the beginning, Is religion, specifically Christianity, the same as science, just from a different perspective? Being Christian myself, it made me question several of my ideas and opinions and forced me to become opened minded to the ideas that Brown gives. After reading this book, I felt as if I understood why the church has been so against science, and it reinforced my opinion and whether or not that was the right stance to have. This book reminds us to think open mindedly about the connection between the church and science, and to never allow ourselves to be so stubborn in our beliefs to realize the good that can come of either. I also believe that even if a person has no stance on science and religion, or is indifferent to it, it will still teach them new perspectives to think about. The story involves Robert Langdon, a professor of religious iconology and symbology at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are simple in structure and have no nucleus with linear chromosomes. Bacteria are essential to life, and reproduction of other bacteria which helps play a role in decomposition of organic matter and the cycling of elements such as nitrogen and carbon, which are elements necessary to live. Due to this, plants and animals can use nitrogen to create nucleic acids along with amino acids, which are the essential building blocks of DNA. They also help break down food in the digestive system, which allows us to obtain the nutrients we need, and bacteriahelps develop our immune system to fight other illnesses that... E. coli is a bacterium that normally lives in the intestines of humans and animals alike, and can cause infection. One hopes to observe a glow from a green fluorescent protein (GFP) which is typically made by a jellyfish. This will be made possible by the additional presence of arabinose, which acts as the inducing agent. The inducing agent influences the transcription of the GFP and activates the transcriptional promoters. A promoter allows a foreign geneto fall into place much easier resulting in gene expression. It is expected that the combination of the plasmid, with the Lysogeny Broth (LB) and the arabinose (ARB) will transform the bacteria, and allow for growth of the bacteria in the presence of the antibiotic ampicillin (AMP) along with an observable glow under ultraviolet (UV) light. Chemical Reaction On Energy And Carbon Preliminary Chemistry Assessment Task 3 Research Energy and Carbon Energy: Photosynthesis can be considered the most important chemical reaction on Earth. Most life on Earth is maintained using energy stored in the carbohydrate glucose produced by photosynthesis. Green plants contain chlorophylls, pigments, which have the ability to trap light energy. The trapped light energy is changed into chemical energy, which is stored in carbohydrates such as glucose (C6H12O6). Photosynthesis means building up, synthesis, and using light, photo. How fossil fuels were formed: Contrary to what many people believe, fossil fuels are not the remains of dead dinosaurs. In fact, most of the fossil fuels we find today were formed millions of years before the first dinosaurs. Fossil fuels, however, were once alive. They were formed from prehistoric plants and animals that lived hundreds of millions of years ago. Think about what the Earth must have looked like 300 million years or so ago. The land masses we live on today were just forming. There were swamps and bogs everywhere. The climate was warmer. Ancient trees and plants grew everywhere. Strange looking animals walked on the land, and just as weird looking fish swam in the rivers and seas. Tiny one celled organisms called protoplankton floated in the ocean. When these ancient living things died, they decomposed and became buried under layers and layers of mud, rock, and sand. Eventually, hundreds and sometimes thousands of feet of earth covered them. This is due to his mother s reaction when he blows up the chemistry room at his boarding school and is told of his death. She faints for the attention of the police officers and the partygoers. As Harold tells Maude, she reached out as if groping for support and with this long sigh, she collapsed in their arms (Harold and Maude). The second law states that: when a net external force acts on an object of mass m, the acceleration that results is directly proportional to the net force and has a magnitude that is inversely proportional to the mass. The direction of the acceleration is the same as the direction of the net force. Lastly, the third law states: Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an oppositely directed force of equal magnitude on the first object. • 19. Family Guy Analysis Imagine living a whole life as an American, accustomed to Caucasian practices, confident on the stability of your home and career and often bragging patriotically. Then your boss decides to have an inspection, laying off immigrant employees. Going to your mother to ask for your birth certificate, you find out you were actually born in Mexico. You get laid off and have to work as a servant for your wife s rich father. This was the case for Peter Griffen, the father and protagonist in the TV series called Family Guy. While working for Carter Pewterschmidt, his father in law, he meets another immigrant employee who helps him around the mansion and gives him some insight on his life. Overall, the episode was a great example of one s view of the American Dream. Its ideas were also very similar to claims made by an author regarding the American Dream. Tim Roemer, author of America remains the world s beacon of success , argues that America is still prosperous and that, based on his trip overseas, foreigners still view the U.S as a land of opportunity. Both Roemer s article and the specified episode of Family Guy serve to demonstrate how people outside of the US still admire the country as a whole, believe America is the goal for studying and that although other countries are facing devastating challenges, people can still prosper in the U.S. Initially, Tim Roemer explains foreign views of the United States, which contributes to his first argument that the U.S is still admired ... • 23. Sorrow Definition Autumn C. Mathis Terrene Comp. 9 October, 2014 Sorrow Does everyone feel sorrow? That is the initial question to a much larger problem, for it does seem as if some people do not. In any given city you d be able to tell the difference from an emo , and a regular . An emo not necessarily being a dark clad hater, they are just people who feel an emotionto the extreme; someone unable to cope with this emotion in such a way as for it to be invisible to others. Say that this feeling is sorrow. Are these people feeling more sorrow than other people do, or are they worse at coping with the feeling? That is the greater problem. On one hand, the people who let their darkest emotions show have issues coping with them, and let them show on their face like art on a canvas. However, whether or not this coping arises from the mental strength of character, from experience, or simply from honesty, is the issue that is presented to me in my mind, and what I need to clarify on, in order to deal with it myself. Maybe being emotional about a problem, in a way that others might recognize, makes the given problem easier to cope with, because you in turn do not also have to cope with the problem that you do not understand. If you carry with you an aura of dread and despair, will people not recognize these emotions in you? You might not acknowledge so yourself, but part of the problem in concealing sorrow arises from the fact that everyone else carries on the way they did before. Life goes ... Browning, he shows a different side of the Germans during the Final Solution, and how not every last one was a terrible person, by explaining how some men would hide from killing, opt out altogether, or say they were just following orders. Though there were still some who embraced their newly found jobs, this book argues there was still a sense of morality, but does not excuse the acts that took place. However, as much as the perpetrators were emotionally scarred, and this book does show us that, there are still some flaws in the content used to write this book. One of the first things that became apparent to me very quickly was that this book was not like most things you read about the Holocaust that always portrays Germans as being horrific people, and the name implies, these were just ordinary men. Actually, some of the men in the beginning were able to opt out of the killings. Having explained what awaited his men, Trapp then made an extraordinary offer: if any of the older men among them did not feel up to the task that lay before him, he could step out. (2) The men were shown empathy as their commander was letting them have an option to not take part in what awaited them. Again, talking about the same commander, But he did not go to the forest itself or witness the executions; his absence there was conspicuous. (59) He did what he could to stay away from the systematic executions of the Jewish people, and his men took note of that. However, there were some instances that almost all of the men knew something was not okay about what they were doing. I would like to say that almost tacitly everyone refrained from shooting infants and small children. (59) All of these accounts reinforce how the men reacted to what they were asked to do initially, and how some opt out altogether. There were some men though, those who wanted to be career military men that took to other ways of getting over what they were tasked with. There came a time when the men were no longer offered an out, and to escape the executions they would volunteer to guard, or hide out in the woods. Through the use of strict form, powerful imagery, and a wise tone, Emerson s poem Intellect urges us to stay true to ourselves by refusing the practice of blind obedience. The form of Intellect is comprised of just six lines which suggests a call to action for the reader to listen to his wise words. The short form produces a riddle like tone; it follows a strict rhyme scheme and a very strong rhythm. The lines are end rhymed this, coupled with the length of the poem produces an almost child like simplicity. The morals hidden in Intellect aren t simple per se, nevertheless we are reminded of the riddles of our primary school days; we remember the catchy rhythm and traditional morals we learned from these riddles. The rhythm and meter are also vital aspects of this poem s structure: each line contains seven syllables and begins with a stressed syllable. This didactic rhythm jumps out of the page at the reader, causing us to pay attention. The stressed and unstressed syllable pattern produces a sing song effect; the poem beckons us to listen to the wise counsel of Emerson with a child like openness and implores the reader to find the moral that Emerson is trying to get across. The imagery of Intellect is challenging: the poem features a fountain, a wave, the shore, and wings all in just six lines. This abstract imagery allows us to tap into our own intellect and it leaves room for the reader to interpret its meaning. Let us contemplate the fountain first. A fountain is often used to symbolise the source for something desirable: whether it be a drinking fountain, a fountain of youth, or the fountain of life we come across in Christian doctrine. Often times we crave rules; or we might just crave direction or someone to tell us what to do. Unfortunately, the source of these rules is often society. We choose to listen to the voice of society for direction, instead of turning inward. Perhaps by writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Interrogation Methods Torture has been around for a very long time. Military leader Napoleon wrote an anti torture letter in 1798 saying, The barbarous custom of having men beaten who are suspected of having important secrets to reveal must be abolished. It has always been recognized that this way of interrogating men, by putting them to torture, produces nothing worthwhile. The poor wretches say anything that comes into their mind and what they think the interrogator wishes to know. The interrogation methods are a problem for many reasons. One, the methods waste time. Secondly, there are other ways to get information besides torture. If the CIA is clever, they could acquire more information, and faster. A student of Australia s Charles Sturt University conducted a study on what methods work in the CIA. She interviewed thirty four interrogators and found that disclosure was fourteen times as likely in a situation that was of physical comfort, and it was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People began to question the efficiency of the method since it only proved to waste valuable time. Two other suspects of the 9/11 attacks also had the waterboarding torture method inflicted upon them. One suspect was waterboarded twice, while the other was waterboarded one hundred eighty three times. Most of the information attained was useless. CIA reports say that these three were the only prisoners to be waterboarded, but that also proved not to be true. The technique has been used against other prisoners, and in one case, resuscitation was necessary. The torture the CIA uses goes against the Constitution and therefore is wrong. Some may argue(and some have) that torture should be allowed on terrorists since they threatened the nation, but in reality, about a quarter of the people being tortured in the CIA prison are actually ... • 41. How Is Julius Caesar Justified Friends turn on each other all the time, but not like Brutus and Caesar. William Shakespeare s play, Julius Caesar revolves around Caesar s assassination and the outcomes surrounding it. Brutus is one of Caesar s closest friends but is convinced to help murder him. The murder takes place before Caesar gains controls of Rome, as a measure of preemptive action. Brutus s precautionary action against Caesar is not justified because he does not have proof, Caesar is a good man, and it makes things worse for Rome. Though Caesar receives over thirty stab wounds, there is not one reason for murdering him. Many people believe he wants to be a dictator, but they have no proof of this claim. At Caesar s funeral, Antony proves how good Caesar really was. In his will, he left seventy five drachmas to each citizen as well as all of his property. When the citizens hear this, they immediately want to avenge his death, We ll burn his body in the holy place, And with the brands fire the traitors houses (3.2.244 245). The citizens realize what a mistake it is to kill a great man and ruler like Caesar and even take matters into their own hands, saying they will burn down houses and erupt in chaos. The citizens are not the only ones who are saddened by Caesar s death, Brutus is as well. Brutus s guilt haunts him with ghosts of Caesar visiting him in his sleep multiple times. The first time he sees the ghost he does not believe it, he asks Lucius, Didst thou dream, Lucius, that thou so criedst out? To which Lucius answers, My lord, I did not know that I did cry, (4.3.301 302). If Brutus believes he made the right decision he would not be haunted by Caesar s ghost. Brutus even believes that Caesar is a good man, which is why he feels so much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Diffusion And Diffusion Of Diffusion Cultural Diffusion Diffusion occurs when people, their ideas and things move from one location to another location. There are several types of diffusion that can occur. According to The Human Mosaic there are five types of diffusion that can occur. The first type of diffusion that occurs is called relocation diffusion. Relocation diffusion occurs when an individual or individuals migrate and bring along certain traits and ideas with them to the new location. Examples of traits that some people bring with them are their languages, certain mannerisms, religions, their dress and even their diet. One example of a trait that is highly diffused is Christianity. We can see from the map on page 28 and 29 that Christianity is a religion that is highly diffused throughout many countries. From the map it shows that Christianity is found in locations such as Australia, Brazil, USA and Russia (Smith 28,29). Another type of diffusion is expansion diffusion. During expansion diffusion, practices and ideas are spread over a population from one area to the next having a snowball effect. Expansion diffusion has a total of three different subtypes. The first subtype of expansion diffusion is hierarchical diffusion. With Hierarchical diffusion only select populations are affected by traits and ideas being diffused. Hierarchical diffusion is thought to affect individuals who are of higher importance or from one urban area to another urban area, skipping the rural places in between. An ... It is one of the metal which is liquid in normal pressure and temperature. Which helps us to understand many parameters which are dependent on pressure and temperature. It was recognized as an element by A. L. Lavoisier in the 18th century. Some of the properties of the element are as follows. Chemical name Mercury Chemical symbol Hg Atomic number 80 Average mass number 200.59 Electronic shell configuration * 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d10 4s2 4p6 4d10 4f14 5s2 5p6 5d10 6s2 Freezing point 38.83 degree celsius Boiling point 356.73 degree celsius Density 13.534 gВ·cmв€’3 Isotopes of Mercury... It is also used in make thermometers and barometers because of its greatest density of 13.534 gm cm to power of 3, it does not need a large tube to measure the pressure and thermometer. Like in a barometer if we use water then we would need a tube of 10.4m to measure the atmospheric temperature but if we use mercury we can measure the atmospheric temperature in a tube on only 0.76m. In a thermometers because of its large range of the boiling and melting points, it helps us to measure a large range of temperature. It also been used for making batteries. It can also be used to dental amalgams. Mercury is used to make dental amalgam because when it is mixed with amalgam powder, the compound it creates is soft enough to press on the tooth. it also becomes hard very fast which helps it to withstand the force of biting. But it has raised question on whether it is safe and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) evaluated the research and told it is safe for people above 6 years of age. **** One of the disadvantage of mercury is that it is toxic in nature due to which it has to be handled with care. Due to which it can result in death of people if they get mercury poisoning and if it is not treated in time. Due to mercury we are now able to make thermometers and barometers which has helped the people a lot. Due to it has helped us to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. How Did The Reaganomics Affect The Economy From a liberal perspective, the Reagan Revolution was insignificant for the United States. For example, Reagan s plan was to stimulate the economy by introducing the Reaganomics. He lowered tax rates, which left more money for individuals and businesses to spend, save, or invest. President Reagan cut federal taxes by 25 percent over a three year period, but the economy continued to struggle for two years and the unemployment rate rose. Although, the personal income grew in the 1980s, the income gap between the rich and poor widened. The Reaganomics assisted the rich, but hurt the poor. These taxcuts would raise wealth among the rich and then would trickle down to all Americans. The problem with that is that the middle class Americans would have to wait for trickle effect.... The Department of Defense annual budget increased approximately 85 percent. During his presidency the national debt tripled from $908 billion in 1980 to $2.6 trillion in 1988. Liberals believed that the debt was acceptable if the government invested in education, transportation, healthcare, and other economic and social issues. When President Reagan was in office, he cut most of the programs that President Johnson had created to benefit the low income families. The government spending did not make all Americans prosper.
