The Controversy Over Abortions By Judith Thomson And Don...
To put it simply, an abortion is defined as, the intentional termination of a pregnancy most often
preformed before the third trimester (within weeks 1 28). The controversy over abortions usually
stems from the difficulty between individuals to agree on a set of conditions that would constitute
ones decision, to abort as just. This issue is examined by many philosophers, particularly, Judith
Thomson and Don Marquis. Both philosopher s views loosely encompass the complex underlying
beliefs of those who stand behind the pro life and pro choice arguments. Tomson and Marquis
demonstrate the very distinctively different perspectives one could take on the issue. Don Marquis
suggests that fetuses, being persons, possess the right to a future like ours and that it would be wrong
to intentionally impede on the life that I would have lived if I had lived out my natural lifespan except
for in rare circumstances . While, Tomson asserts that not all abortions are morally wrong, nor do they
violate the victim s right to life , and by having one that is in no way indicative that a fetus s rights
have been violated. Despite the fact that both philosophers present valid positions, and outline their
key differences, Tomson goes far beyond Marquis efforts by illustrating that the way in which we
view abortions ought to be redefined in order for one to maintain a clear perspective. In Don Marquis
An Argument that Abortion is Wrong he sets out to prove that abortions are unethical

Di had always been a cheerful person who loved to laugh, and her good spirits gave her more
melancholy sister a lift. Rowling told her sister that she was working on a new book . When they were
little Di always wanted to hear her stories. Rowling allowed Di to read three of her finished chapters.
Rowling sensed that she probably would not have the strength to finish the book if it failed to entertain
her kid sister. After a few minutes of silence Di laughed out loud, and if she hadn t Rowling stated I

Rowling was trying to get her new book publish but it seemed that no publisher wanted to publish the

Distribution of Work in the European Council
What is the influence of the President of the European Council Herman von Rompuy and High
Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton? The answer to
this question is very debatable. Catherine Ashton obtains many functions, the most known is that she
is the High representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security policy. But she is also the
First Vice President of the European Commission and has many other duties such as chairing the
Foreign Affairs council and representing the European Union in international fora. Only her titles
alone take up three lines to write, just imagine how can she manage to fulfill all these duties properly.
That s right, she can t do all those duties at 100 percent. And on the other hand we have Herman Van
Rompuy who is the President of the European Council and his duties include chairing the European
Council meeting and occasional representation of the EU in the international meetings. Although this
may seem as a tough job to do, in comparison with Catherine Ashton we could even say that he isn t
really doing anything. His chairing duty calls only twice per six months. This is utterly shocking. We
do not consider this optimal distribution of work. This also leads to creation of job positions, which
don t serve any real purpose. This is maybe one of the problems of EU, lack of common sense and
unreasonable complicating of things that could be solved much easier and in

How Did Harry S. Truman American Disliked
Harry S. Truman was actually disliked by many during his presidency. Franklin D. Roosevelt was one
of the most popular presidents ever in American history, so people mainly disliked Truman for not
being Roosevelt. Many also did not support him as he couldn t boost the economy quickly, but overall,
the transition of military to consumer goods is a long process and would have been hard for any
president. He also fired General MacArthur during the Korean War conflict since he disagreed with
the bombing of China. Truthfully, it was probably just bad timing for Truman to succeed as the
president as the main cause of the hate on him. Truman had to make some very crucial decisions as
soon as he had stepped into office as President. He contributed

The Characteristics of Florentine Painting as Reflected...
The Characteristics of Florentine Painting as Reflected in the Work of Masaccio
The Italian Renaissance was one of the most productive periods in the history of art, with large
numbers of outstanding masters to be found in many centres and in all the major fields painting,
sculpture, and architecture. In Florence, in the first half of the fifteenth century, there were great
innovators in all these fields, whose work marked a beginning of a new era in the history of art. These
innovators included Masaccio in painting,
It was Masaccio (1401 28) who, in his brief and amazing career, was the real successor of Giotto and
revolutionized Florentine painting.
He too gave his figures a grave and noble dignity. His frescoes in the

Artists consider an increasing amount, the relationship with the spectator this is clearly shown in the
picture of the trinity and tribute money by Masaccio. Although Masaccio did not display this
particular characteristic in any of his known paintings many
Florentine artists made religious figures depicted with an individual appearance. Again the painting of
the Trinity depicts another characteristic and that is that of adding weight by using classical features
and forms. There is a very strong depiction of emotions and human feeling which is a very effective
feature in paintings; again
Masaccio visibly portrays this in the expulsion from Eden. Last of all there is a clear innovation and
development of mathematical system of perspective. This particular attribute is portrayed strongly in
many pictures of Masaccio s , trinity, evangelic annunciation and ucceo flood. For my first
charactersitic in which I will look more in depth into will be the Innovation and development of
mathematical and scientific system of perspective. In the Renaissance, art and science were closely
connected. Both the artist and the scientist strove for the mastery of the physical world, and the art of
painting profited by two fields of study that may be called scientific: anatomy, which made possible a
more accurate representation of the human body, and mathematical perspective. Perspective in
painting is the rendering on

Ambassador Usain Bolt Research Paper
One of my most memorable moments was Jamaica s performance in the 2008 Olympics where
beloved Jamaican Sprinter and Ambassador Usain Bolt, set three world records and won three gold
medals. I am Jamaican by birth and like all other Jamaicans Usain Bolt holds a special place in my
heart because of his will, grit and tenacity. Every record they said he wouldn t break he has broken and
then went on to break his own records and every criticism he has received he has let roll off his
shoulders and continue to perform outstandingly and with style. Bolt brought track and field into a
different era when he won in 9.69 s with a reaction time of 0.165 s in the 2008 Olympic 100m final. In
doing this he broke his own world record, and finished well ahead of second place finisher Richard
Thompson, who finished in 9.89 s. This record is even more remarkable because it was set without a
favorable wind (+0.0 m/s), and towards the finish line he slowed to celebrate and his shoelace was
untied. In fact, sans these factors and considering his position, acceleration and velocity in comparison
to his competitors; his coach and the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Oslo

Jamaican 4x100 meters relay team, his number of gold medals increased to three and along with his

The Negative Effects Of The Plessy Vs. Ferguson Trial
Segregation had been something the United States had struggled with for years. During the 1890 s
segregation started to become more common and white people felt superior to other races, especially
African Americans. White people believed, black people did not deserve the rights and respect that
they had. Homer Plessy, the so called wrongdoer in the Plessy vs Ferguson case, was seven eighths
white and one eighths black, and he had an appearance of a white man. On June 7, 1892, he purchased
a railroad ticket from New Orleans to Covington La, and sat in an empty seat in a whites only car.
Homer told the conductor he was black, and when asked to leave and move on to the appropriate car,
he refused. He was an American citizen who had bought a first class ticket and deserved to sit on that
train. When the conductor called the police, Homer Plessy was arrested and later in court his case
challenged the system and had a large impact on the African American community. The Plessy vs
Ferguson trial affected humanity in both a positive and a negative way, because of the small negative
short term cultural effects, such as disrespect towards African Americans, and the long term positive
effects that lead to the equality between black and white people.
The Plessy v Ferguson Trial negatively affected humanity in a cultural way, creating separate but
equal rights, challenging the constitution in court, creating the problem of segregation which was
overturned in 1954. To begin, after the case,

Educating The Gifted Through Ability
Educating the Gifted Through Ability Grouping in Elementary Schools
1) What is Ability Grouping? How does it seek to further the educational needs of a diverse group of
students in a classroom or a school?
a) Ability grouping refers to the grouping of students of the same ability or according to their
demonstrated performance or readiness level (Misset et al)
(1) Using groups according to ability creates a homogenous environment for students to learn with
others at a pace that matches the needs of the whole group. This seeks to inhibit the loss of interest for
students who learn more quickly and ensure that students who need more time and assistance in
certain academic areas will receive additional instruction.

evaluations that are given by education professionals. One such determination is a child who has an IQ
of 130 or higher, or who places in the top ten percentile in standardized testing.
(i) Anne Wheelock states in her interview that labeling students by ability tends to be more associated
with pace of learning than capacity to learn (Bozzone, 1995)
2) Formative assessment is encouraged to better help instructors understand and assist students in
accelerated learning.
a) Black and William derived guidelines for effective formative assessment: The assessment must be
conducted during a 250 Journal for the Education of the Gifted 37(3) unit of instruction, it must focus
on identifying strengths and weaknesses of students in comprehension and/or in application of the
subject matter, and formative assessment should be used to make adjustments in the curriculum to
improve learning prior to the unit summative assessment. Formative assessments should also produce
data relating to measurable attributes of learning within a unit, data on the performance level achieved
by a student on that attribute, and data that allow the teacher to

What Is The Theme Of The Ultimate Safari
The experiences of a young girl and her family as they are relocated the height of war are chronicled
in Nadine Gordimer s The Ultimate Safari . Set during the incredibly turbulent time of the Apartheid
in South Africa, this short story addresses the issue of racial divide within a single area. Throughout
the text, the author makes use of parallels between black people and animals, and white people and
hunters, as well as variations on use of the word ultimate in the text to illustrate the schism between
the rich Caucasians and the poor black people, making apparent through this the inferiority of the
latter.
The story begins with a travel advertisement that encourages the citizens of London, a country
primarily made up of caucasian people, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator and her companions are still treated similarly to animals, though undoubtedly in a more
humane manner than they were previously. Tended to by the area s existing citizens, a population of
Caucasian people, they are medically treated, housed in a tent, and are slowly integrated into their new
home, in the same way that a domesticated animal usually is. They have not forgotten the country that
they had originally come from, though. Similarly, it is in the nature of animals to want to return to
their territory, their original habitat. Though the family and the rest of their companions are accepted
by the existing villagers in the area and have integrated fairly well into society, some kind of an air of
fascination seems to continue hanging about them. Still a somewhat of a curiosity to white people,
they are photographed and questioned through the use of an interpreter for a film. This scene in
particular, in the way the white people interact with the narrator s family, evokes thoughts of a zoo, if
not of a lab experiment, situations wherein animals are observed as oddities, a species almost alien to
us and our understanding. In a similar way to the scene in the text, it is not uncommon for people
nowadays to hire professionals to enable them to understand their

The Work Force, By Sheryl Sandberg Essay
Regardless if she is a housewife or a woman who works a 9 5, she is still under the dominance of a
man when it comes to the term work. At home, she is the caregiver but he is the bread provider. In the
work force, she is the assistant and he is the one calling all the shots. If she is fortunate enough to hold
a high ranked position, it is almost evident that she does not have the same voice as a man that holds
the same position. Unfortunately, this is the reality for most women, but some women have broken
through these boundaries and excelled in the high ranked position in the work force. One woman in
particular is Sheryl Sandberg. She the current CEO of Facebook and a mother to a little boy and girl.

barrier that prevents advancement in a profession. Shining some light on this issue, Sandberg shares

Common Dietetic Strategy For Reducing Energy Intake
1. Is this a peer reviewed journal? 5 points
Yes, the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is a peer reviewed journal.
2. What is the purpose of this research? 10 points
A common dietetic strategy for reducing energy intake while still maintaining nutritional adequacy is
to replace full fat dairy products with reduced fat varieties. The purpose of this study was to examine
the dietary outcomes of this strategy in the context of weight loss by comparing the amount, type, and
nutrient contribution of dairy products consumed by overweight individuals participating in a weight
loss trial. A secondary aim was to determine whether individuals complied with a recommended intake
of reduced fat dairy product based on individual requirements. The researchers hypothesized that the
intake of fat and energy from dairy products would decrease, and a greater number of individuals
would meet the recommended number of diary product servings after 3 months of participation in the
weight loss trial.
3. Who or what was being studied? 10 points
In the present study, a secondary analysis was conducted on data from 118 participants who were
enrolled in a 12 month weight loss trial, the Smart Study. The Smart Study was conducted from 2008
2010 in Australia by researchers at the University of Wollongong. Participants in the Smart Study
were locally recruited through media advertising. After withdrawals, a total of 86 participants were

Research About Ted Bundy and Social Theory
I chose to analyze the case of Ted Bundy because when I was in high school I saw the movie Ted
Bundy. At the time that I watched this movie I was already interested in going to college and majoring
in psychology. I wanted to know why people do the things they do. Going into this subject I find
everything about Ted Bundy s case intriguing. Throughout the course of this class I have learned so
many theories and risk factors that explain why criminals do the things they do. I feel like writing
about Ted Bundy and doing research on his case could benefit my future career in psychology by
gaining knowledge in the field of criminology and all types of risk factors. This could make it easier

Ted Bundy had some spiral down falls in his life, that he probably never saw coming, but all humans
experience hardships throughout our lives. Of course we all deal with hardships differently, in Ted s
unique case he winded up screwing up his entire life with a series of criminal acts, killing over 30
women.
To the world Ted is known as one of the most notorious serial killers. Many people will ask questions
such as why did he do that? And how could a human being have no remorse for killing any of these
women. Well, in the next few subjects I will try to break it down in two theories as to why Ted Bundy
did what he did. Of course we can t understand entirely why a psychopath serial killer does things, but
there are some theories that can lead us to believe why a serial killer commits such violent acts. On
February 15, 1978 Ted Bundy was arrested in Florida while he was in prison he admitted to raping and
killing more than 30 women and girls, he was suspected of committing over 50 murders. He was
convicted on July 31, 1979. Bundy s beetle bug was where he trapped many of his victims

The Positive Impact Of Technology
Technology has evolved over the years, improving in fields such as medicine, computer programming,
business, and the list goes on. It has opened up a number of jobs and work opportunities and helped
make society more efficient. The human brain has also benefited a great deal, due to fast paced
research and new ways to improve and present creativity skills, using different pieces of technology
and search engines. There are some downsides to technology and the wide growth of it, while some
problems are created through the misuse of it and how others take advantage of it. However,
technology really has more of a positive impact than anything, because it has made society and people
work more efficiently, opened up new work opportunities, helped our brains think more in depth and
helped people become more creative, and has really made an impact in medicine.
People and society in general has improved in the sense that they work more efficiently. According to
Yuki Noguchi, a journalist for NPR news, reported that The advance of tablets and Web based
computing makes it possible for more people to work remotely... . People are now able to work much
faster and are able to get more done because they have things like cell phones, tablets, and laptops,
which makes it easier to work just about anywhere one goes. In addition, there is an increase in
collaboration and connectivity, meaning that it is easier to stay connected with others, especially in the

Methodology
Methodology in cross cultural psychology can be divided into two categories: quantitative and
qualitative. Methodology in cross cultural psychological studies are the popular methods used by cross
cultural psychologists and offers critical proposals about the process of gathering facts and
interpreting data in comparative studies(Shiraev amp; Levy, 2010, p.,28). Qualitative research is
carrying out mainly in a natural setting, where the research participants carry out their daily activities
in a non research atmosphere. Qualitative studies are also conducted when there are difficulties in
measuring variables, in situations when the subjects cannot read or use answer scales or when there
are no standardized measurement instruments available. Qualitative research is also useful in
situations in which variables are not completely conceptualized or operationally defined. The
qualitative method can be useful when the experiences and priorities of the research participants
heavily influence the research (Shiraev amp; Levy, 2010, p., 29). Quantitative methodology is a

Identification Of Unknown Organisms And Two Eukaryotes
Identification of Unknown Organisms

Introduction
The purpose of this study is to identify four unknown organisms. The unknown organisms have been
assigned randomly to six research groups by Professor Hoffman. Each research group was provided
two eukaryotes and two prokaryotes. The unknown organisms will fall into the following
classifications: bacteria, algae, fungi, or protozoans. All living organisms are organized into one of
three domains of life, Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya.
The Domain Bacteria
Bacteria and Archaea are prokaryotic, which are mostly single celled incomplex microorganisms. Both
Bacteria and Archaea have a variety of prokaryotes classified in multiple kingdoms (Reece, et al.,
Campbell Biology, 2014). There are a number of scientists who believe that Archaea cells may be the
precursor to Eukaryotic cells and that they have more in common with Eukaryotes than Prokaryotes
(Madigan, Martinko, Dunlap, 2009).
Prokaryotes are ubiquitous, successfully adapting to diverse environments as well as developing
symbiotic relationships with host organisms (Lengeler, Drews, Schlegel, 1999). Prokaryotes may have
both autotrophic and heterotrophic characteristics. A cyanobacteria is photosynthetic, commonly
called blue green algae, and may produce toxins (Crayton, 1993). Bacteria are most commonly

Essay On Standing Tall
The book, Standing Tall: The Kevin Everett Story (Published in 2008) written by Sam Carchidi is
about a former NFL player overcoming a seemingly irreversible injury during his professional career.
I selected this book because it reminds me of the days when I played football in high school and how
fortunate I was to be able to walk away from the sport with no severe injuries. I constantly read about
the freak accidents in football that either left an athlete with a lifelong injury or sometimes even death.
This book stood out to me because it is about a player who went against the odds and was able to
somewhat recover from what seemed like an injury that would have left him disabled for the rest of
his life. The book begins conversation about how Kevin Everett was entering his third year as a tight
end and special team s player for the Buffalo Bills organization with a promising future ahead of him.
This was all about to change in the season opening game for Keven against the Denver Broncos.
During the opening game Kevin was making special teams tackle after a punt to put the Broncos far
back into their own territory, but that tackle was about to change Kevin s life. After taking down the
opposing player Kevin was left in the ground motionless and not responding. Kevin was carted off the
field and taken to one of the nearest hospitals. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

about someone who defeats adversity. This book has defiantly impacted me in the aspect that Kevin

Tobacco industries are very profitable, there is no denying that, but does this profit benefit the people s
economy? Tobacco companies want the people to think that tobacco is good for the economy even
though it isn t good for health (caner.org). The tobacco industry is one of the most profitable
businesses in the US, making not million, but billions of dollars every year (cancer.org). The cost of
smoking, however, is far higher than the income made from sales (cancer.org). In 2004, the US Center
for Disease Control Prevention estimated that smoking led to health cost and productivity losses that
came to a whopping average of 10.47 dollars. (cancer.org).This is per pack (caner.org). A study of
more recent number shows that annual smoking related economic cost in the US are calculated to be
between 289 billion dollar, and 332.5 billion dollars (cancer.org). To further understand what this
means, one must break down these numbers. In the total provided earlier, factors included consist of:
132.5 billion dollars to 175.9 billion dollars for direct medical care of adults (caner.org), 151 billion
dollars for loss of productivity that was a result of premature deaths (cancer.org), and 5.6 billion
dollars for a lost productivity due to exposure ok smoke, or secondhand smoke (cancer.org). To put

Differences Of Hinduism And Hinduism
Hinduism is one big family of beliefs that unites the worship of many gods with a belief in a single
divine reality. Hinduism does not have an identifiable founder nor a structure in place to defend it and
spread its guidance, or a creed to steady its beliefs. At first many of its teachings and scriptures were
passed down orally but eventually, were written down for all to cherish. In Christianity we find that
Jesus is the originator of this religion, and is purely a missionary religion. Traveling and branching out
to as many people as possible to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ. Also, in similar sense there are
many denominations within the religion that have different teachings but all usually lead to the same
result, reaching heaven and living eternally with Christ himself.
Hinduism has many deities that are worshipped. Depending on what type of deity you worship
depends on one s own personality or age. The most common deities prayed to would be the three in
the Trimurti. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and represent the forces of creation, preservation, and
destruction. Brahma is the god of creation and often depicted as having four faces looking in all
directions and eight arms holding symbols of power. Vishnu is the god of preserving the universe and
is often depicted as having four arms holding symbols of power and usually wears a tall crown. Shiva
is the god of destruction but also recreation. Shiva could be the most misunderstood god in Hinduism
because most people

The Time Value Of Money Essay
Until Wednesday April 8, 2015 no country had ever offered a ten year bond that gave investors a yield
of less than zero percent. That was until Switzerland offered ten year bonds that lenders are paying to
hold. While many countries like the United States Federal Reserve are preparing to increase interest
rates, the European Central Bank is driving them down. The decreasing interest rates have forced
countries like Switzerland to offer negative yields on their bonds in order to keep their currency from
increasing too far about their Eurozone (European nation) neighbors. However, this notion challenges
the very fundamentals of investing in the bond market. Numerous countries throughout the Eurozone
and Europe are also seeing their yields turning negative. Whereas, various European countries rates
have only slightly fallen below zero, others continue to fall deeper into negative territory. It appears
that the time value of money (one of the fundamental cores of investing) seems to count for very little
throughout the European bond market.
Although Switzerland was the first to sell ten year bonds with negative interest rates several other
European countries (both inside and outside the Eurozone) have sold government debt securities with
negative yields. Up until now the highest government debt instrument were five year maturities.
Switzerland s issuing of a ten year bond with a negative yield is only one of the numerous strange
monetary occurrences throughout the European

Fate Or Wyrd In Beowulf
The role of fate, or wyrd, in the poem Beowulf refers to a force that controls a warrior s life regardless
of his actions and deeds, good or bad. This is evident in the poem when the mighty prince sits joyless,
mourning the fate of his lost friends and companions, who had been slaughtered by the monster
Grendel as they slept. He feared the beginning of the killings may not be the end. To that end, he was
right, and Grendel continued to kill men, depite whether they had done good or bad deeds.

it, often decides the future of mankind. Fate always goes as it must, according to Beowulf, who

Stratification Of Social Class And Youth And The Life...
Stratification of social class in the media
Social class stratification continues to have a very important role in the life of people living in the U.S.
and all around the world. The different class of people in the U.S. is based on several reasons. For this
essay, we are going to examine the socio economic background, level of education of the youth and
the life style of an individual. A good question is how does the social class stratification originates?,
why do middle class youths turn to be more successful than working class youths? Children get their
first exposure of what society is all about from their parents who is the primary group. The school,
teachers, and community serves as the secondary group and has an impact on the development of the
child. It is during the up bringing of a child that the mores of the society should be assimilated. Failure
to do so, the child becomes unproductive and feels rejected by the society and unfortunately, this child
might end up with a deviant character.
On average, educated people earn more than those who are not educated, and their wealth and
knowledge gain is passed to their generation. To have a quality life people need to be educated. The
more skills an individual acquires the better chances his/her has to be successful. The community and
the life style of a child affect his/her progress, the kind of neighborhood or friend a child makes will
influence the direction this child will take. Diverse communities hold different

Modern Day, Multi National Companies Are Becoming More...
In contemporary organizations where globalization and multi national companies are becoming more

Four areas of management that pertain to contemporary management are the approaches to
management, classical, behavioral, quantitative, and modern. Each of the approaches were practiced
commonly in the past, however in the modern day, organizations must incorporate each management
approach to different business situations and work environments. In the modern day, multi national

At Microsoft the chief executive officer is in charge of the company as a whole and holds the most
power while the executive vice presidents oversee each of the departments with managers overseeing
employees at the retail level. An advantage of this approach is that when issues occur at the retail level
such as technical issue that employees are unable to handle, the manager is available to solve these
minor issues. Weber describes this advantage of bureaucracies as the capability of attaining the highest
degree of efficiency since employees have knowledge of who handles which issues and employees are
also highly trained in their routine responsibilities (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Alan Marsden shows
another advantage of bureaucracy through its use in banks, where the impersonal employee behavior
gives customers a sense of equality and the formal rules in place prevent larger issues such as banks
over borrowing (Marsden 2009). However due to the strict procedures, when larger issues occur, the
bureaucratic approach causes delays to communicate to higher executives on how to solve issues.
Critics have pointed out that the delays become a disadvantage in the modern day since management
must be flexible and adapt to different scenarios, however the rules and regulations in bureaucracy do
not allow these changes to occur easily (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Overall, the

Impact Of Executive Orders On Society
Presidential Executive Orders and The Social Impact on American Society American Presidents are
constrained in the power they can wield because of the separation of powers between the branches of
government. Presidents use executive orders to compensate for their limited power. Presidents have
also taken unilateral action to address the needs and concerns of important political constituencies
before Congress is ready to act. (Gitterman 2017) Executive orders assume three forms: 1) self
executing, orders that are dependent on government agencies implementing the order, 2) Altering
institutional structures and processes, and 3) Symbolic arguing tools. (Mayer 2001) Presidents also
gain more control through unilateralism and collection action because the president s order is also
considered a command; when this command is given to the executive branch, it conforms to the
president s will. (Rudalevige 2012) Presidents must remember that they can be noble, but when they

(Cooper 2001) Executive orders can also influence program funding, such as welfare and food
assistance, healthcare, and social security under vague legislative instructions directing agencies to
decrease funds to the programs. (Orentlicher 2017) Economic policies of the federal government are
often influenced by executive orders that can cause an increase or decrease in federal revenue; a weak
economy with higher taxes makes it harder for families in poverty to meet basic needs, but a strong
long term economy provides increased revenue to the federal government, which could be used to
fund more social programs and reduce the poverty rate. (Gittell

the plan on Wednesday by three votes. The problem: Each time a coach challenged a call and
requested a replay, it costs the team ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if the did, enough serious fans carry portable TVs with them in the stands. They can see the
network replays and listen to some coach turned analyst gripe that the coach on the field shouldn t be
expected to live with such horrible, amateurish calls . So officials will have to live with it, like they do
in other sports. With the history of a first failed attempt in the way and the fact that coaches will not
give up a timeout to challenge a call, the league is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Without
giving up a timeout the game will run too long, as it did before, and they know they can t give free
reign to challenge every call. What the league must do is simple. First, keep instant replay out of the
game and end this debate. Let the human element decide the outcome. The tight end who drops the
ball in the end zone doesn t get a second chance. Why should the official? We ve seen what happened
when officials had big brother watching. They became tentative. They also were involved in a good
number of calls which couldn t be conclusively determined from a replay. The game was delayed by
the review. Second, the league must make officials full time employees. The money it spends on the
gaudy commissioner s party at the Super Bowl could probably pay for all the salaries. Right now,
officials, according to the NFL, receive roughly from $1,600 to $4,000 a game, depended on length of
service. Pay them a realistic annual wage so that no

AI Essay
As I was listening to Harris speech, I noticed that a lot of what he had to say matched my latest
thoughts about AI. Harris mentioned that the most worrisome thing about the development of AI at
this point is that people seem unable to arrange an appropriate response to the dangers that may come
from AI. I agree with Harris because I have noticed that when I have a conversation about AI with
someone, most people don t know much about it to gather and create an emotional response to it, and
the people that do know some information about AI seem to not really feel threatened by it. I think
that most people believe that AI is so far fetched and will probably never reach a level of intelligence
where we should feel threatened by it or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agreed with a few things that Ronson shared in his speech, I agree that a lot of people on social
media have the mentality that when a powerful person misuses their privilege, they are prepared to
attack. It is like if people are trying to keep others in their place from doing what they consider to be
wrongful. I feel as if people like to attack others when they make a subtle mistake in organizing words
that best express their thought or in the case that Ronson focused on when someone doesn t
understand one s humor and decides to exploit them. But why? Well, my theory is that people like to
feel powerful and we also like to feel like we are doing something good for the vast majority.
However, how we decide to protect others seems kind of brutal. In social media, one has to be careful
with what one decides to share because it can be so easily be misinterpreted. A misinterpretation can
lead straight to online shaming. People with like views will begin to gather to protect the people that
they believe are being attacked in an inappropriate way. And the way people decide to protect others is
very mean. I don t think they really understand the power of what they have to say especially when a
huge group gathers with alike opinions. Ronson shared a case of a woman who decided to

Essay on Metamorphosis of the Family in Kafka s...
Metamorphosis of the Family in Kafka s Metamorphosis In Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis, the nature
of Gregor Samsa s reality changes insignificantly in spite of his drastic physical changes. Gregor s life
before the metamorphosis was limited to working and caring for his family. As a traveling salesman,
Gregor worked long, hard hours that left little time to experience life. He reflects on his life
acknowledging the plague of traveling: the anxieties of changing trains, the irregular, inferior meals,
the ever changing faces, never to be seen again, people with whom one has no chance to be friendly
(Kafka 13). Gregor, working to pay off his family s debt, has resigned himself to a life full of work.

So concerned with ensuring his parents and sister were taken care of, he forgot his own needs. It was
apparent to everyone that he was no longer thought of as a son or an extension of the family, but
merely as a support system. The tragic fact is that everyone had grown accustomed to it, his family as
much as himself; they took the money gratefully, he gave it willingly but the act was accompanied by
no remarkable effusiveness (Kafka 48). It appears that in the course of his hectic work schedule, he
overlooks that in return for dedication to his family, he remains unloved and unappreciated. Yet
Gregor still believed he had to provide his family with a pleasant, contented, secure life (Emrich 149),
regardless of how they treated him. Gregor s existence before the metamorphosis was much like after
it; limited to work and family, he went unnoticed by both. After changing into a cockroach one night,
Gregor is forced to live a life of isolation with a family who is appalled by him. He is placed in a dark
bedroom, in the jumble of discarded furniture and filth a monstrous vermin, a grotesque, hidden part
of the family (Eggenschwiler 211). Shock and terror, resulting in Gregor being locked away, marked
his family s reaction to his metamorphosis. His sister is the only one that, while frightened, would tend
to Gregor s room and meals. She even took the responsibility so far as to get angry with anyone who

Myrtle In The Great Gatsby
As the car collided with Myrtle s body, Gatsby looked death in the face as his fate was sealed to
forever be alone. Tom and Daisy lived in East Egg, where the people all came from generations of old
money. On the other hand, Gatsby lived in West Egg which was considered less fashionable and was
were those with new money resided. Those who lived in East Egg believed they were better than those
who lived in West Egg because they grew up sophisticated and wealthy. However, long before Myrtle
and Tom, Gatsby and Daisy met for the first time in Louisville, 5 years ago. They quickly fell in love
until it was all brutally ripped away when Gatsby had to leave for the war. Daisy was a wreck, but,
soon after Gatsby left, she began dating again and found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After realizing the affair between Daisy and Gatsby, Tom agrees to go into the city as Daisy had
suggested previously, however he insists that Gatsby and he switch cars for the drive. During the drive
to the city, Tom realizes he needs more gas and pulls into Wilson s garage where both Myrtle and
Wilson see Tom driving Gatsby s large, yellow car. However, on the drive returning from the city the
two men were once again in their own vehicles and it seems that all too quickly Myrtle ran out into the
road, it seemed to me that she wanted to speak to us, thought we were somebody she knew (Fitzgerald
143). As Myrtle rushed out into the street for the large, yellow car, she was unaware that who she
sought, Tom, was no longer the one behind the wheel. She believes that the driver is Tom and, in an
attempt to get to him, flings herself recklessly at the car in the hopes that he will take her away from
her wretched life. Tom s countless bad decisions an infidelity, however, can be explained by a singular
event. In the article, Paradox, Ambiguity, and the Challenge to Judgment in The Great Gatsby and
Daisy Miller by Neil Heims, Heims discusses the similarities and differences between the novels The
Great Gatsby and Daisy Miller, highlighting on the differences between Tom from The Great Gatsby,
and Daisy from Daisy Miller. The author is comparing Tom

Is The Vice President s Comments About Cost And Schedule...
1. Are the vice president s comments about cost and schedule variance correct?
Yes! As we have seen in the case study the Spokane industries are very particular about the earned
value reports, as we seen in the reports that the Franklin electronics provided is seemed to be a very
basic according their view. The values of cost variance at the 2nd month are like 6K, 2K, 3K, 3K, here
the total comes to 14k ($14,000) and the same cost variance in the following month are presented as
7K, 3K, 5K, 10K ($25,000) respectively, so here we can see that the values that were provided in the
2nd month are less than 3/4th of the 3rd month. Comes to the scheduling variance the values given to
the 2nd month are said to be 8K, 1K, 2K, 20K ($31,000), the 3rd month calculations are in the order
12K, 3K, 4K, 26K ($45,000), so by seeing this we can easily say that the scheduling variance is
overrated nearly 50% of its value in the previous month. So, whatever the sponsor said in the case
study is true.
I hope their main aim for the need of these earned value reports is to reduce the interchange meetings
and to finish the project within the basic 3 constraints of a project management. That is why they
opted a formalized project management. From the case study it is very easy for us to make sure that
they believed earned value reports are some techniques to avoid the interchange meetings. The
reduction in interchange meetings automatically reduces time for discussing the completed work
rather than

  • 2. The Controversy Over Abortions By Judith Thomson And Don... To put it simply, an abortion is defined as, the intentional termination of a pregnancy most often preformed before the third trimester (within weeks 1 28). The controversy over abortions usually stems from the difficulty between individuals to agree on a set of conditions that would constitute ones decision, to abort as just. This issue is examined by many philosophers, particularly, Judith Thomson and Don Marquis. Both philosopher s views loosely encompass the complex underlying beliefs of those who stand behind the pro life and pro choice arguments. Tomson and Marquis demonstrate the very distinctively different perspectives one could take on the issue. Don Marquis suggests that fetuses, being persons, possess the right to a future like ours and that it would be wrong to intentionally impede on the life that I would have lived if I had lived out my natural lifespan except for in rare circumstances . While, Tomson asserts that not all abortions are morally wrong, nor do they violate the victim s right to life , and by having one that is in no way indicative that a fetus s rights have been violated. Despite the fact that both philosophers present valid positions, and outline their key differences, Tomson goes far beyond Marquis efforts by illustrating that the way in which we view abortions ought to be redefined in order for one to maintain a clear perspective. In Don Marquis An Argument that Abortion is Wrong he sets out to prove that abortions are unethical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Distribution of Work in the European Council What is the influence of the President of the European Council Herman von Rompuy and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton? The answer to this question is very debatable. Catherine Ashton obtains many functions, the most known is that she is the High representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security policy. But she is also the First Vice President of the European Commission and has many other duties such as chairing the Foreign Affairs council and representing the European Union in international fora. Only her titles alone take up three lines to write, just imagine how can she manage to fulfill all these duties properly. That s right, she can t do all those duties at 100 percent. And on the other hand we have Herman Van Rompuy who is the President of the European Council and his duties include chairing the European Council meeting and occasional representation of the EU in the international meetings. Although this may seem as a tough job to do, in comparison with Catherine Ashton we could even say that he isn t really doing anything. His chairing duty calls only twice per six months. This is utterly shocking. We do not consider this optimal distribution of work. This also leads to creation of job positions, which don t serve any real purpose. This is maybe one of the problems of EU, lack of common sense and unreasonable complicating of things that could be solved much easier and in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roosevelt was one of the most popular presidents ever in American history, so people mainly disliked Truman for not being Roosevelt. Many also did not support him as he couldn t boost the economy quickly, but overall, the transition of military to consumer goods is a long process and would have been hard for any president. He also fired General MacArthur during the Korean War conflict since he disagreed with the bombing of China. Truthfully, it was probably just bad timing for Truman to succeed as the president as the main cause of the hate on him. • 6. The Characteristics of Florentine Painting as Reflected... The Characteristics of Florentine Painting as Reflected in the Work of Masaccio The Italian Renaissance was one of the most productive periods in the history of art, with large numbers of outstanding masters to be found in many centres and in all the major fields painting, sculpture, and architecture. In Florence, in the first half of the fifteenth century, there were great innovators in all these fields, whose work marked a beginning of a new era in the history of art. These innovators included Masaccio in painting, It was Masaccio (1401 28) who, in his brief and amazing career, was the real successor of Giotto and revolutionized Florentine painting. He too gave his figures a grave and noble dignity. His frescoes in the Brancacci Chapel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Artists consider an increasing amount, the relationship with the spectator this is clearly shown in the picture of the trinity and tribute money by Masaccio. Although Masaccio did not display this particular characteristic in any of his known paintings many Florentine artists made religious figures depicted with an individual appearance. Again the painting of the Trinity depicts another characteristic and that is that of adding weight by using classical features and forms. There is a very strong depiction of emotions and human feeling which is a very effective feature in paintings; again Masaccio visibly portrays this in the expulsion from Eden. Last of all there is a clear innovation and development of mathematical system of perspective. This particular attribute is portrayed strongly in many pictures of Masaccio s , trinity, evangelic annunciation and ucceo flood. For my first charactersitic in which I will look more in depth into will be the Innovation and development of mathematical and scientific system of perspective. In the Renaissance, art and science were closely connected. Both the artist and the scientist strove for the mastery of the physical world, and the art of painting profited by two fields of study that may be called scientific: anatomy, which made possible a more accurate representation of the human body, and mathematical perspective. • 7. Ambassador Usain Bolt Research Paper One of my most memorable moments was Jamaica s performance in the 2008 Olympics where beloved Jamaican Sprinter and Ambassador Usain Bolt, set three world records and won three gold medals. I am Jamaican by birth and like all other Jamaicans Usain Bolt holds a special place in my heart because of his will, grit and tenacity. Every record they said he wouldn t break he has broken and then went on to break his own records and every criticism he has received he has let roll off his shoulders and continue to perform outstandingly and with style. In doing this he broke his own world record, and finished well ahead of second place finisher Richard Thompson, who finished in 9.89 s. • 11. The Negative Effects Of The Plessy Vs. Ferguson Trial Segregation had been something the United States had struggled with for years. During the 1890 s segregation started to become more common and white people felt superior to other races, especially African Americans. White people believed, black people did not deserve the rights and respect that they had. Homer Plessy, the so called wrongdoer in the Plessy vs Ferguson case, was seven eighths white and one eighths black, and he had an appearance of a white man. On June 7, 1892, he purchased a railroad ticket from New Orleans to Covington La, and sat in an empty seat in a whites only car. Homer told the conductor he was black, and when asked to leave and move on to the appropriate car, he refused. He was an American citizen who had bought a first class ticket and deserved to sit on that train. When the conductor called the police, Homer Plessy was arrested and later in court his case challenged the system and had a large impact on the African American community. The Plessy vs Ferguson trial affected humanity in both a positive and a negative way, because of the small negative short term cultural effects, such as disrespect towards African Americans, and the long term positive effects that lead to the equality between black and white people. Identification Of Unknown Organisms And Two Eukaryotes Identification of Unknown Organisms Benjamin Nibarger Professor Hoffman Monday 11:15 AM Group Members Jamie Jerome, Natalie Perez, Ruth Pinzon September 27, 2014 Introduction The purpose of this study is to identify four unknown organisms. The unknown organisms have been assigned randomly to six research groups by Professor Hoffman. Each research group was provided two eukaryotes and two prokaryotes. The unknown organisms will fall into the following classifications: bacteria, algae, fungi, or protozoans. All living organisms are organized into one of three domains of life, Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya. The Domain Bacteria Bacteria and Archaea are prokaryotic, which are mostly single celled incomplex microorganisms. Both Bacteria and Archaea have a variety of prokaryotes classified in multiple kingdoms (Reece, et al., Campbell Biology, 2014). There are a number of scientists who believe that Archaea cells may be the precursor to Eukaryotic cells and that they have more in common with Eukaryotes than Prokaryotes (Madigan, Martinko, Dunlap, 2009). Prokaryotes are ubiquitous, successfully adapting to diverse environments as well as developing symbiotic relationships with host organisms (Lengeler, Drews, Schlegel, 1999). Prokaryotes may have both autotrophic and heterotrophic characteristics. A cyanobacteria is photosynthetic, commonly called blue green algae, and may produce toxins (Crayton, 1993). I constantly read about the freak accidents in football that either left an athlete with a lifelong injury or sometimes even death. This book stood out to me because it is about a player who went against the odds and was able to somewhat recover from what seemed like an injury that would have left him disabled for the rest of his life. The book begins conversation about how Kevin Everett was entering his third year as a tight end and special team s player for the Buffalo Bills organization with a promising future ahead of him. During the opening game Kevin was making special teams tackle after a punt to put the Broncos far back into their own territory, but that tackle was about to change Kevin s life. In 2004, the US Center for Disease Control Prevention estimated that smoking led to health cost and productivity losses that came to a whopping average of 10.47 dollars. A study of more recent number shows that annual smoking related economic cost in the US are calculated to be between 289 billion dollar, and 332.5 billion dollars (cancer.org). Hinduism does not have an identifiable founder nor a structure in place to defend it and spread its guidance, or a creed to steady its beliefs. That was until Switzerland offered ten year bonds that lenders are paying to hold. The decreasing interest rates have forced countries like Switzerland to offer negative yields on their bonds in order to keep their currency from increasing too far about their Eurozone (European nation) neighbors. However, this notion challenges the very fundamentals of investing in the bond market. Numerous countries throughout the Eurozone and Europe are also seeing their yields turning negative. Whereas, various European countries rates have only slightly fallen below zero, others continue to fall deeper into negative territory. It appears that the time value of money (one of the fundamental cores of investing) seems to count for very little throughout the European bond market. Although Switzerland was the first to sell ten year bonds with negative interest rates several other European countries (both inside and outside the Eurozone) have sold government debt securities with negative yields. Up until now the highest government debt instrument were five year maturities. This is evident in the poem when the mighty prince sits joyless, mourning the fate of his lost friends and companions, who had been slaughtered by the monster Grendel as they slept. He feared the beginning of the killings may not be the end. To that end, he was right, and Grendel continued to kill men, depite whether they had done good or bad deeds. Exchanges of plants, animals, diseases, and technology transformed European and Native American ways of life. It was originally only between Spain and America, but soon many other countries in Europe began to join the trade. Among the many crops that were traded the two most important ones from America were potato and maize (corn) with sugarcane as a close second. • 32. Stratification Of Social Class And Youth And The Life... Stratification of social class in the media Social class stratification continues to have a very important role in the life of people living in the U.S. and all around the world. The different class of people in the U.S. is based on several reasons. For this essay, we are going to examine the socio economic background, level of education of the youth and the life style of an individual. A good question is how does the social class stratification originates?, why do middle class youths turn to be more successful than working class youths? Children get their first exposure of what society is all about from their parents who is the primary group. The school, teachers, and community serves as the secondary group and has an impact on the development of the child. It is during the up bringing of a child that the mores of the society should be assimilated. Failure to do so, the child becomes unproductive and feels rejected by the society and unfortunately, this child might end up with a deviant character. On average, educated people earn more than those who are not educated, and their wealth and knowledge gain is passed to their generation. To have a quality life people need to be educated. The more skills an individual acquires the better chances his/her has to be successful. The community and the life style of a child affect his/her progress, the kind of neighborhood or friend a child makes will influence the direction this child will take. In Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse, the burned lady, and Professor Faber helped him become the person he was in the end of the book. After meeting Clarisse, Guy Montag begins to question things about his daily life that he unfortunately never realized before. Before he crossed paths with Clarisse, Guy Montag burned books, and lived as if he was sentenced to the degradation of individual freedom around him. In Fahrenheit 451 , Clarisse states So many people are. Afraid of firemen, I mean. But you re just a man, after all... Weber describes this advantage of bureaucracies as the capability of attaining the highest degree of efficiency since employees have knowledge of who handles which issues and employees are also highly trained in their routine responsibilities (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Alan Marsden shows another advantage of bureaucracy through its use in banks, where the impersonal employee behavior gives customers a sense of equality and the formal rules in place prevent larger issues such as banks over borrowing (Marsden 2009). However due to the strict procedures, when larger issues occur, the bureaucratic approach causes delays to communicate to higher executives on how to solve issues. Critics have pointed out that the delays become a disadvantage in the modern day since management must be flexible and adapt to different scenarios, however the rules and regulations in bureaucracy do not allow these changes to occur easily (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). • 41. Impact Of Executive Orders On Society Presidential Executive Orders and The Social Impact on American Society American Presidents are constrained in the power they can wield because of the separation of powers between the branches of government. Presidents use executive orders to compensate for their limited power. Presidents have also taken unilateral action to address the needs and concerns of important political constituencies before Congress is ready to act. (Gitterman 2017) Executive orders assume three forms: 1) self executing, orders that are dependent on government agencies implementing the order, 2) Altering institutional structures and processes, and 3) Symbolic arguing tools. With the history of a first failed attempt in the way and the fact that coaches will not give up a timeout to challenge a call, the league is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Without giving up a timeout the game will run too long, as it did before, and they know they can t give free reign to challenge every call. What the league must do is simple. As we have seen in the case study the Spokane industries are very particular about the earned value reports, as we seen in the reports that the Franklin electronics provided is seemed to be a very basic according their view. The values of cost variance at the 2nd month are like 6K, 2K, 3K, 3K, here the total comes to 14k ($14,000) and the same cost variance in the following month are presented as 7K, 3K, 5K, 10K ($25,000) respectively, so here we can see that the values that were provided in the 2nd month are less than 3/4th of the 3rd month. Comes to the scheduling variance the values given to the 2nd month are said to be 8K, 1K, 2K, 20K ($31,000), the 3rd month calculations are in the order 12K, 3K, 4K, 26K ($45,000), so by seeing this we can easily say that the scheduling variance is overrated nearly 50% of its value in the previous month. So, whatever the sponsor said in the case study is true.
