Orientalism
Chapter 1: The Scope of Orientalism.
Section 1: Knowing the Oriental.
At the beginning of this story, the writer Edward Said starts analyzing speeches and writings done by
two British Imperialists about Egypt in the early 20th century, with focusing on the stress imposed by
British authorities stating that they know better the Egyptian country so they have the total right to
rule it.
In other words, there were Westerns to dominate and Orientals to be dominated, which usually means
that they ll occupy their lands and control everything in it.
The reason behind the appearance of this domination was that France and Britain divided ... Show

In the beginning of this section, Said starts by stating the summary of previous two chapters.
He then distinguishes between 2 distinct forms of knowing and representing the West.
The distinction Said was building is between positivity, which is called hidden Orientalism, and
various views on the Eastern community and languages which is called clear Orientalism.
In the clear Orientalism, we can find all the changes that occurred in the Orient.
In addition to that, Orientalism presented the Orient to the West in many ways.
For years, Orientalism had explained and talked about Orient s texts, mores, traditions, civilizations
and cultures and they have been put aside because they are foreigners in Europe s eyes.
Section 2: Style, Expertise, Vision: Orientalism s Worldliness.
Researchers invented a category called Oriental for the same thing that any eastern individual could
face.
At that time, Oriental experts was not required to just understand the Orient.
Experts were also required to make the Orient act and their forces, traditions and civilizations should
be standing in the Western side.
This eventually led to the division of the Orient into two sides; The new version and the old

The Process of Conditioning
Florida Sahay

Fall 2009
The Conditioning Process
It was raining when Sarah was driving home from work. Both she and the driver of the car in front of
her were speeding. The car in front of her had immediately braked. There was not enough distance
between that car and her own car to safely slow to a stop, so she had quickly switched lanes to avoid a
car accident. Instead, the slick pavement caused her car to swerve out of control. When her car finally
skidded to a stop, it was inches away from colliding into a tree. Two weeks later, Sarah noticed that
she had become anxious every time she had to drive in the rain. Believe it or not, Sarah s anxiety is
due to an associative learning process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All three groups were to run through a complicated maze. Group A was rewarded food daily when
they were able to get to the end of the maze. Group B did not receive any food and group C was
rewarded food on their 11th trial. Group A showed a much improvement in a short course of time
(approximately seventeen days) due to the reinforcement. Group B and C, however, showed little
improvement over the course of 10 days. After the 11th trial, group C showed a drastic improvement
and even exceeded group A. Tolman determined that the rats in group C have been learning the maze
just as much as group A. The motivation of the reward seemed to increase group C s potential. He
termed this as latent learning, which is dormant knowledge that an organism has, but does not express
until it is needed. Later on in the study of psychology, cognitive factors were integrated into the study
of conditioning.
A major theme during the study of conditioning was nature vs. nature (Weiten, 2008). Behavioral traits
were thought to be explained through environmental factors, but the recent decades of evidence from
the study of classical and operant conditioning has proved that the process of conditioning is impaired
by biological constraints. Heritage and the environment once again challenge the theories of nurture
when influencing behaviors in organisms. Child care facilities, schools, factories, and major

Film Analysis Of The Graduate And Annie Hall
Before the 1960s there were plenty of films made. In the 1950s things began to change for, in my
opinion, the better. It started with a new form of acting called method acting that encouraged
improvisation. This was key because it gave actors more control over their characters which allowed
for more realistic representations of characters allowing audiences to connect better to the film.
Having more control over a character is something that I found vital because it adds an even deeper
element to the film as a whole. Another important thing added in the 1950s was the addition of subject
matters and themes that focused on ordinary individuals. This was important again because it added
another element to the films that audiences could connect to. In the 1960s there was even more change
to the film industry. For example, there was a new focus on youth, with psychological character
studies of offbeat anti heroes. More explicit presentation of sexuality, violence and drug use on screen.
Rebellion vs. the American mainstream, with new values and points of view. Self conscious use of
cinematic effects, reflecting European influence and new twists on old film genre. These new changes
can be seen in cinematic and thematic elements in films including The Graduate and Annie Hall. To
start this film analysis, we ll start with The Graduate directed by Mike Nichols. Cinematically there
were a lot of things added in this film that shows these new features added to films in the

Angell s Belief in Functionalism and John Watson s Belief...
It was also suggested by Angell(1913) that consciousness was best if forgotten and there should be a
objective method of describing animal and human behavior but also believed that if it were to exist , it
should definitely be of some use for an organism .
The statement also suggests that it was not only John Watson the founder of behaviorism who
proposed the idea rather it was thought about before him. His rise and influence was probably because
of introducing the idea at a time when it could be accepted by the time and tide of that period.
Psychology had been the study of mind from a very long time and was represented by the method of
introspection defined as studying the mind by analyzing the thoughts.
Angell s functionalism aimed to apply psychology and its methods to real life problems however the
problem with both structuralism and functionalism was that the methods were not reliable and
introspection was considered to be a problem rather than a solution.
Psychology could not convince people of its usefulness and practical problem and the founder of
behaviorism John Watson believed that both structuralism and functionalism were subjective and
introduced behaviorism as objective. (Moore ,2011) which was considered to be a transformation from
one phase of science to another . (Gardner ,1985)
Behaviorism has been believed to influence everyday life from parenting and learning to employee
perks in organizations. It aims to study behavior and how it can be changed, it

Abraham Heschel s Definition Of Abraham Lincoln As A Prophet
Abraham Lincoln
The definition of a prophet, according to Abraham Heschel, is someone who is faithful to God, is
passionate, and would risk their lives to spread the truth of God. Prophets like Isaiah were called to go
on missions for God, to help people see, and he, with a passion, said Here Am I. Send Me. (Isaiah
6:8). In Jeremiah, God states that he is to be prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:4). Abraham Lincoln
was 52 when he became President of the United States of America and became one of the most well
known Presidents in United States history. While normally, you do not think of Abraham Lincoln as a
prophet, Abraham Lincoln fits Abraham Heschel s description of a prophet because he made our
country one again, he emancipated slavery even though many of us thought slavery was okay, and he

Back in 1861, Abraham Lincoln was approximately five months into being President when the Civil
War rang out across the United States of America. The President had come up with a series of plans
for how he planned to have the Confederates lose the Civil War, but each time he came up short,
however, after the Battle of Gettysburg, his plans were finally starting to work out the way he wanted,
this became known as the turning point of the war for the union. After only six days of having won the
war, Abraham Lincoln was, sadly, shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth. Abraham Heschel states that
Prophets earn their title by witnessing the world around them with outstanding passion. and Abraham
Lincoln fought this war with an outstanding passion. According to Abraham Heschel, Prophets are
also the men whose image is our refuge in distress, and whose voice and vision sustain our faith.
Abraham Lincoln helped the United States be hopeful that the Civil War was drawing to an end when
people were afraid for their

Value Of Shame In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Carissa Larriuz
Mrs. Gordon
English 11
29 April 2018
The Value of Shame In modern culture, it is often used as a great threat and punishment to be publicly
shamed, multiple judges of the court even sentence this as a punishment. When the term is used
loosely, it appears an inappropriate alternative to jail time, yet when speculated closely, public shame
is in some ways worse than being put away in a cell. This can be argued due to the behavior spectators
display with involvement in the situation firsthand. I believe that although in some cases public shame
could be excessive and not fit the crime correctly, that public shaming is an effective and influential
form of punishment for certain crimes.
Primitively, According to the 8th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept has existed almost as long as humans themselves, right from the beginning of creation in
the story of The Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were tempted into committing the first crime known
to man and once committed they were punished publicly by being unclothed. This nakedness and
sense of vulnerability was a form of public shame because their entity was exposed and they were
provided this punishment as a reflection of self assessment. This similar idea is conveyed in Nathaniel
Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter. In the most basic sense, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and
Hester Prynne represent the primary characters in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and
Eve. The first scaffold scene, where Hester stands alone with her baby in her arms, in terms of
similarities between the story and the biblical one of Adam and Eve, plays on the biblical fact that Eve
is said to have eaten the fruit first and then convinced Adam to eat it afterward. The community s
belief that women are, by nature, sinful, is backed up by the interpretation of the biblical story and
therefore shown in their acts of ridicule to Hester alone. Overall, the use of public humiliation as a
way of instilling social discipline in in many ways highly effective when used suitably. It may lack
effectiveness if the offender in question

Who Is Responsible For The Inca s Downfall
The Incas worshiped many Gods.Their Sun God was Marco Capae. Huascar, their 12th God. They had
3 realms, 1 of them is Hana Pacha. She was the celestial realm in the sky. Uku Pacha was a realm and
he was the inner Earth. Lastly, Cay Pacha is the outer Earth where humans live.
The Incas formed a government. Their government was organized and they ruled with a monarchy.
Their king had plenty of work to do. He controlled politics, society, food stores, and commander in
chief of the Army. The king, in my opinion, had an awkward and busy life. He could marry his own
sister, wore silver shoes on his feet, and drank out of gold and silver cups.
Creatively, the Incas achieved many things. Their inventions was their most popular thing. In fact, ...

The Incas traded for lots of things. In fact, they traded materials for roads and bridges and in trade
they got gold, silver, and coca leaf. Their most famous bridge is called The Inca Bridge, simple right.
Its also made of woven grass. One of their famous roads are up a mountain.
The Inca daily life was sort of difficult. If they lived on a mountain, their houses were made of stone
with a built in oven and a pile of mud in the middle of the room. If they lived on the coast, their
houses were made of adobe, cane, and reed. If they lived on plain old land, their houses had no
windows, dark, and was rectangular. It was required to be married. Dishonesty had little opportunity.
It would be awkward because men were able to have more than one wife. Chimu Artisans and local
leaders were able to wear jewelry. Their diet included mostly vegetables and little meat. With their
diet, they only had two meals a day. They had lots of fruit such as sour cherries, custard apples,
elderberries, cactus fruits, pineapple, and a lot of different bananas. Since they didn t eat a lot of meat,
the only ate guinea pig, llama, dog, or duck meat. The peasants ate outside and only ate common fruit
and llama. Even though everyone ate outside, it was disrespectful to eat inside. To end this paragraph,

Technology Troubles:
The Negative Impact on Children s Behavior
Abby McIlrath

Mr.Yarbrough
Technology is everywhere. It has become an important part of our everyday life. It can be used as a
learning tool and also provides many forms of entertainment. It can be fun, but it can also be habit
forming. In today s society, children are using technology more frequently than ever before. Does the
increase in technology have a negative impact on children s behavior?
Technology is used in every part of daily life. In recent decades, electronic devices have become a
common part of the American home. It is common to see children using technology by playing on cell
phones and tablets. Parents may be surprised at how quickly children learn to use technology. A study
done in 2013 by Common Sense Media, showed that seventy two percent of children under the age of
eight have used a mobile device, and 38% of children under two have used one. Another study
completed by Kaiser Foundation in 2010 and published in The Huffington Post, showed that
elementary aged children use on average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment technology, 75 percent of
these children have TV s in their bedrooms, and 50 percent of North American homes have the TV on
all day. Technology is changing how children act and also changing the relationships between parents
and their children. With all

Meaning Of Mass Media
When we hear the words mass media most of us usually think about information being conveyed
through a modern means of communication like television, internet, or radio. However, the definition
of mass media according to dictionary.com is as follows; any of the means of communication, as
television or newspapers, that reach very large numbers of people.(5) Since this is a pretty broad
definition, this, of course, could also mean books, because they are able to reach a large number of
people, though it takes longer to reach the audiences because of production and distribution times.
Now, of course, things like television, internet, magazines, and newspapers usually reach more people,
there are many books that have sold millions of copies. Some of these include religious text like the
Bible about 2.5 billion have been sold, The Koran at about 3 billion sold and the Book of Mormon at
about 150 million.(1,3) Other famous books that have sold in the millions according to Ranker.com
are A Tale of Two Cities with over 200 million sold and Lord of the Rings with 150 million sold.(2)
There are even some children s books that have sold millions of copies like The Cat in the Hat and the
Hungry Caterpillar.(2) Just these numbers alone are enough to be included in the definition of mass
media.
Any book that has these types of numbers has had a very big impact on the world s population. It
could be argued that the majority of the people on the Earth have either read

and learn about the different stuff in the world. So people may think that child labor gives the children
enough education on the real world. Also, people think that if children works in the warehouse or

start to help their families and find out how it is to be an adult in the real world and how the real world

Craig Elwood Ls
When diagraming Case Study House #16 by Craig Elwood I discovered that the plan was made up of
a series of L shape geometries that were correlated and organized around a diagonal line. These L
shapes varied in direction and size but were the regulating geometries of the plan, in specific the mass
and void of the house itself. These L geometries identified the bones of the plan and allowed a rotation
within the plan to be revealed and later emphasized. Once the rotation was revealed, groups of Ls
were then analyzed, questioned, chosen and emphasized within a new diagram. These Ls rotated
around a central point and reformed the mostly rectangular plan into a circular diagram. At this stage
the Ls were associated with other geometries

A Report On Japanese Tea
As Japanese Tea Ceremony is an important part of Japanese food and culture, drinking tea was
initially popular in China since the fourth century. From history, tea plants did not grow in Japan
initially until the first seeds were brought from China during the Tang Dynasty (China 618 907).
During this period, the two countries were at their prime as they were experiencing growing
relationships and cultural exchanges between each other. In China, tea was esteemed for its medicinal
value and represented an elegant drink. According to legend, the history of tea in Japan was created
1,300 years ago by a Buddhist monk, named Bodhidharma. Uniquely, the story is that he would have a
daily routine of meditating for nine years just by staring at the wall of a cave. In his own personal
journey, he battled his occasional drowsiness where he has to drink tea to ease the pain. Eventually, he
came up with the idea of cutting off his eyelids, so his eyes would not close. Supposedly, on the place
where he placed his severed eyelids, the first tea bushes appeared. From this legend, it was reported
that this story is why the tea ceremony is so important to Zen Buddhism and Japanese culture as he
was an important role model. (Hays, 2013)
Initially, tea started as a powdered tea which were tea leaves that are steamed, dried, and then crushed
into powder. In addition, the tea developed the split bamboo whisk that was to be stirred into the hot
water. Throughout time, China replaced the powdered

“Critically Assess the Claim That Religious Language Is...
Critically assess the claim that religious language is meaningless Religious language has been argued
about by many philosophers to whether or not the ways in which we speak about religion are relevant
or meaningful. This issue of religious language looks at the way we talk about God, debate ideas and
communicate our theist or atheist ideologies. For some, religious language is meaningful and full of
purpose while others see it to being incomprehensible and pointless. The Vienna Circle was made up
of many great philosophers who were against metaphysics due to it leading to illogical thoughts like

Aquinas used the example of analogy to prove this. He believed any religious statements that you
make are being made from a human s perception and cannot be compared to the brilliance of God. For
example, you may get a good grade in an essay and you may claim that God is also good but the two
types of good are completely different. The univocal language that we use in day to day life is not
meaningless though it does help us to make connections between the world around us and God
himself. Analogy of attribution highlights words that can be applied to humans as well as to God. For
example, if you claim Anne is good and then say God is good then these are both meaningful
statements. When you state that God is good you are saying that he is the source of all goodness
because God is the creator and sustains all things. This is meaningful because the statement God is
good illustrates that if God created all goodness he must be good himself. According to the analogy of
proportion if you say my car is great then you are saying it lives up to your expectation of what
greatness is. If you say the religious statement God is a great God you are agreeing that God measures
up to what a great God should be. To Aquinas, this was meaningful because you were expressing
through analogy the goodness of God.
Although verificationists would argues that analogy, symbol and myth are all just as meaningless as
they can neither be verified nor

Durkheim Racial Inequality
According to Durkheim, inter dependence and division of labor creates organic solidarity which holds
everybody in modern society together. In modern societies, people usually have different beliefs, goals
and jobs, but everybody depends on each other to live. Each of us does a specialized job in order to
keep the entire system working. For example, I don t farm but still have vegetables to eat because
somebody farms for the whole society, including me. We are bonded together by the division of labor
and the reliance on each other. However, while Durkheim thinks that division of labor is the base of
social cohesion, Marx thinks that society is divided by class differences which are created by the
division of labor. Marx claims that class difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the current criminal justice system, police can search houses, luggage or the people themselves with
minor reasons or even no reasons. With the overwhelming power, police don t actually treat people in

Americans and Latinos are the majority of the prisoners in the prisons in US (Alexander 2012). In
fact, three quarters of prisoners who are arrested for drug abuse are people of color, moreover, black
people are twenty to twenty five times more likely to be arrested for drug abusing (Alexander 2012).
Even though illegal drug dealings are done among every race, including whites, the executors of the

For ages, authors have strived to convey their interpretation of the social concerns and themes, using
the literary texts as a medium. Their texts were not only intended for conveying, but also to form the
basis for social and intellectual change. In Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and Great Gatsby by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, these key concepts have been clearly addressed. Persepolis is a graphic novel, portraying
the life of Marji and how she experiences social changes around her in Iran. The Great Gatsby is a
literary novel, set in the 1920 s, reflects on the American society and social status ... Show more

Scott Fitzgerald has effectively used characterization and narrative voice to explore various social
concerns. The novel was produced during the 1920 s, referred to as the roaring twenties or the jazz
age. The fruit of the economic boom also gave rise to many social issues which involve alcoholism,
class, and domestic violence. The class in that period was divided into the new money, old money and
no money. Fitzgerald very well integrated this social concern using characterization. Division of the
west egg, East egg and the valley of ashes symbolized this social concern. Also, Tom Buchanan in the
novel was characterized as an arrogant and hypocritical bully. People who have been brought up rich
are expected have characteristics similar to Tom. Another social problem was incomplete and
incompatible relationships among people. This was portrayed by the relationship between Daisy and
Tom. While Nick, the narrator, judges the life of Daisy and Tom based on their lavish house. Yet, the
narrator soon learns the imperfections in their life, portrayed by narrator voice such as Fragilely
Bound and French Widows . Due to the economic boom, alcoholism was very prevalent in that period.
Fitzgerald uses a unique way of deriving this social problem. Nick, the narrator, came to New York to
earn money. However, his motifs were changed and he was shown to have been severely influenced
by alcoholism. He also received treatment to overcome this after Gatsby died. Also, the narrator use

The First Three Words Of Our Constitution
We the people... the first three words of our constitution have changed in meaning and who the people
represent also has changed over time. The U.S constitution laid out the framework for the future
government of our country, everything from the branches of our government to our rights as U.S
citizens. As our country has evolved from the institution of the constitution to our modern day country,
the representation of the the people has expanded and changed in the years since the establishment of
the U.S constitution. To begin, why did the framers choose to start the constitution with we the
people? During the creation process of the constitution the framers had one thing in mind and that was
to create a system of government that was anything but the tyranny Britain had. Perhaps the biggest
flaw Great Britain had been the lack of voice the citizens of England had. Not even the Articles of
Confederation began or even mentioned the people in the document. It only made sense for the
foundation of our country s future to revolve around the thing that allows our government to function.
The citizens run the government, if the citizens don t go out and fight for things to get done then
nothing will ever get done. This is why we have representatives in each state to listen to what the
people have to say on issues and laws. Another point referring to both the government of Britain and
the articles of confederation is that by saying we the people it shows that the constitution

The Argument For The Elimination Of Television
Approximately twenty five billion dollars is spent on advertising a year, a number far greater than the
amount spent on education nationally. Why so much money? Jerry Mander in his book Four
Arguments for the Elimination of Television, lays out the numerous problems that exist with
television, a problem that cannot necessarily be improved. In essence, technology is not a tool that is
neutral. Mander describes that in different institutions and technologies, such as advertising, mass
production, militaries, the basic structure of particular technology or institution establishes its
influence on the world, the types of individuals that will make use of it, and how people will use it.
Television is a tool that established the kinds of effects it will have on peoples lives, how people will
use it, and who will use it, and if such technology continues to be used, the kinds of effects and
political forms that will result from it. Mander develops four arguments throughout his book. The first
argument Mander describes is that television conditions people to accept another person s authority.
He begins by explaining that although television might be interesting and useful it packs people into a
mental as well as a physical condition suitable for the appearance of autocratic control. Artificial
environments, therefore, strip individuals of obtaining direct knowledge of nature. He follows his
second argument by stating that technological advances are controlled by the powers that

Also make sure to choose the bed that is suitable for your kid s body requirements.
Style
Beds and mattresses for children come in a range of colours and designs. For girls, the most popular
bedroom furniture colours are yellow and pink, while boys prefer blue, red and green. They also come
in various styles, from metal bedframes with plastic headboard to old fashion timber bed frames and
headboards. Bunk beds and loft beds are space savers. Choose either of these two, if your kid s room
is short on space. But if you have plenty of space, you can opt for a regular kid s bed. Beds may also
have other components such as built in drawers with matching bedroom furniture, such as desk, chairs
and cabinets. No matter what design or style of beds you choose, just make sure it complements the
overall them of the room.

The Motif In Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rain
The motif in Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rains is rain itself. In the story the house has
come to life. The technology has taken over humanity in American culture. The house can clean itself,
cook, and pay bills. Even when the family is gone, the house still acts as if they live there still. The
entire west face of the house was black, save for five places. Here the silhouette in paint of a man... a
woman... a small boy... a thrown ball... a girl, whose hands raised to catch a ball which never came

still relate to. The motif, rain, is what brings us back to reality in a very futuristic story. Off to school,

Intel s Training For Engineering And English As A Second...
Additionally, Intel was not satisfied with just bringing jobs and tax revenue to Costa Rica. The
company went a step further and developed the education system in a myriad of ways. This was also
advantageous for Intel s interests. Initially, Intel was concerned that Costa Rica did not have enough
skilled professionals to work in its new assembly and testing facility. In order for the plant to be fully
operational Intel would need to employ 1500 Costa Rican technicians (Cabrera Unruh, 2012). Intel
received authorization from the Costa Rican government to partner with two of the country s largest
universities, the Technical Institute of Costa Rica and the University of Costa Rica. Intel first trained

Once again, this was a success! In 2002, Intel embarked on the third phase which entailed establishing
even more highly complex programs and positions in Costa Rica. Hitherto, Intel only had these
complex programs and positions in other regions. The goal was to expand the manufacturing,
research, and development operations to Costa Rica. Intel collaborated with the universities again and
now built highly specialized laboratories and even created research study abroad programs for Costa
Rican PhD candidates (Cabrera Unruh, 2012). Interestingly, in 2004 only 10% of Costa Ricans who
graduated from the programs worked for Intel afterwards (Cabrera Unruh, 2012). Many of the
remaining graduates worked for other companies in the sector, some companies which were Intel
suppliers. However, this is still very smart business. In economics, education is considered a positive

How The Ming Dynasty, Incan Society, And Tenochtitlan Society
Throughout unit two we looked at many different societies, not in Europe. While there were many
influential civilizations in Europe during this time, there was also many civilizations making major
advancements as well. There were three things that really caught my eye and these were the Ming
Dynasty, Incan Society, and Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital. While all of these may seem different,
they have influenced how we live our life today somehow.
I. The Ming Dynasty
The Ming Dynasty ruled China from 1368 to 1644 (Morris). The Ming Dynasty was established by
King Zhu Yuanshang, who named the dynasty not after Nohis family but the word ming which can
mean bright or luminous ( The Chinese Ming ). It had a population around eighty five million making
it the largest civilization on Earth. As Professor Clunas points out in the exhibition s exemplary
catalog, everything about it was on a grand scale: It had a greater land area, bigger cities (and more
big cities), bigger armies, bigger ships, bigger palaces, bigger bells, more literate people, more
religious professionals. (Morris). Not only was the Ming Dynasty bigger, it brought many major
advances in art, technology, and philosophy during its time. Probably one of the most popular art
forms, is the amazing work they could do with blue and white porcelain. They were very skilled in
this new art form, and were the only civilization that could make these beautiful pieces. Still to this
day, it is hard for anyone

Acquisition premium is defined as the amount the acquirer paid, which is higher than the fair value of

calculated as a percentage of the market capitalization of the target before the transaction is
announced. Several factors explaining for the existence of acquisition premiums, synergies and control
premium are most commonly identified. Synergies arise when the value of the combined business is
larger than the sum of the values of individual business that would be achieved if not combined.

beyond the acquisition expenditure over the fair value of the identifiable asset. In order to determine
the amount of goodwill on acquisition, the purchaser needs to recognize the fair value of all the
identifiable assets acquired and the purchase consideration. Fair value of net identifiable assets equals
the sum of company s share equity. Purchase consideration is the amount that the acquirer is willing to

purchase consideration and the fair value of company s identifiable assets. However, the cost directly
relate to acquisition such as legal fees, stamp duty and other government charges, and professional

higher price than what the fair value of the acquired company is. However, goodwill on acquisition is

important and prestigious committee in the Senate that I decided to take a look into is the Judicial

committee of Foreign Affairs. Both of these committees are not only important to their respective

the issues that they are in charge of. For example, they have continuously discussed how to combat
crime. Senator Feinstein cosponsored a bill that has put over 114,000 additional cops in the streets of
this nation in order to help fight the crime in this nation. Another big issue that this committee faces
with is immigration reforms. For decades this nation has had different perspectives on undocumented
people that are within this country. Some people want to help them become documented workers by
offering citizenship, visas, or other methods while other people do not. This is an ongoing matter that
will continue to be talked about for many years to come not only in the Judiciary committee, but also
by the people of this country. The jurisdiction of Foreign Affairs in the House will have an oversight
on many different issues that include: foreign assistance, the peace corps, international law, promotion
in democracy, and as well as many other matters. A huge issue that they are currently facing is how to
defeat ISIS. This members within the committee have been wanting to do whatever possible to stop
the current execution of Christians and help the people who are combatting ISIS in the middle east,

Jonathan Swift Criticism Of Human Pride
Human pride is when a person views himself as more important than other people. They have an
exaggerated sense of self respect and dignity which can make a person arrogant and blind to reality.
This could eventually lead a person to their downfall. Jonathan Swift looks at human pride in a
negative way believing the world would be much better without it. In A Voyage to the Country of the

Bottled Water And Drinking Water Essay
We must drink enough fluids for a creature or human to live and grow. Even though some people may
need coke and soda in their personal life, many people have many opportunities to drink water, which
is the closest and cheapest fluid. We can drink water in two kinds of ways, bottled water and tap water.
Some recent articles recommend choosing tap water for several reasons, even though the
investigations of the two kinds of water praised bottled water as better water for us than tap water until
a little while ago. Which one is better for us? Both bottled water and tap water are the same water just
by looking at them; however, each of one has its merits and demerits regarding health risk, price,
environmental impact, and source of water.
The first comparison is health risk. The organizations regulating tap water and bottled water are
different and the rules for bottled water are generally less strict than tap water rules. The
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has the authority to monitor all public water systems and sets
enforceable health standards regarding the contaminants in drinking water. When drinking water
leaves a treatment plant on its way to your house, it must meet strict safety standards. That doesn t
mean that your water is free of all contaminants, but that the levels of any contaminants don t pose any
serious health risk. (WebMD, LLC. 2014). Also, BERKELEY WELLNESS writes, city water is

Health Information Exchange ( Hie )
Health Information Exchange (HIE) is an electronic way for health care providers, patients, and
payers to access and securely share medical information. There are data breaches everyday so patient
and providers are concerned about the privacy and security of the HIE. Patients fear that sensitive
health information related to dire diseases will be disclosed and used against them in decisions related
to health insurance coverage or employment according to Mertz (2009, p.1). Providers are concerned
that they will be breaking some health privacy laws of different states if they use a HIE. However, in
essence as long as the HIE is following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPPA) Privacy and Security Rules then the provider and patients should be safe. This is because
HIPPA regulates covered entities such as healthcare providers, health insurers, healthcare clearing
houses. They all must follow HIPPA regulations when accessing, using and disclosing your medical
information.
One main privacy and security concern when talking about a health information exchange is patient
matching. Patient matching is used to match patients to medical records that come from multiple
healthcare providers. According to Godlove and Ball there are two key elements to the use of HIE,
The first is confirming that the requesting and responding HIOs patients are one and the same. The
second is confirming that the patient has consented to the exchange of the health information

  • 2. The Scope Of Orientalism Western Civilization Instructor: Hayat Hariri Student s Name: Amany Moghrabi ID Number: 11431583 Orientalism Chapter 1: The Scope of Orientalism. Section 1: Knowing the Oriental. At the beginning of this story, the writer Edward Said starts analyzing speeches and writings done by two British Imperialists about Egypt in the early 20th century, with focusing on the stress imposed by British authorities stating that they know better the Egyptian country so they have the total right to rule it. In other words, there were Westerns to dominate and Orientals to be dominated, which usually means that they ll occupy their lands and control everything in it. The reason behind the appearance of this domination was that France and Britain divided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of this section, Said starts by stating the summary of previous two chapters. He then distinguishes between 2 distinct forms of knowing and representing the West. The distinction Said was building is between positivity, which is called hidden Orientalism, and various views on the Eastern community and languages which is called clear Orientalism. In the clear Orientalism, we can find all the changes that occurred in the Orient. In addition to that, Orientalism presented the Orient to the West in many ways. For years, Orientalism had explained and talked about Orient s texts, mores, traditions, civilizations and cultures and they have been put aside because they are foreigners in Europe s eyes. This eventually led to the division of the Orient into two sides; The new version and the old

  • 4. The Process of Conditioning Florida Sahay Professor Griffin Psychology 1101 Fall 2009 The Conditioning Process It was raining when Sarah was driving home from work. Both she and the driver of the car in front of her were speeding. The car in front of her had immediately braked. There was not enough distance between that car and her own car to safely slow to a stop, so she had quickly switched lanes to avoid a car accident. Instead, the slick pavement caused her car to swerve out of control. When her car finally skidded to a stop, it was inches away from colliding into a tree. Two weeks later, Sarah noticed that she had become anxious every time she had to drive in the rain. Believe it or not, Sarah s anxiety is due to an associative learning process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All three groups were to run through a complicated maze. Group A was rewarded food daily when they were able to get to the end of the maze. Group B did not receive any food and group C was rewarded food on their 11th trial. Group A showed a much improvement in a short course of time (approximately seventeen days) due to the reinforcement. Group B and C, however, showed little improvement over the course of 10 days. After the 11th trial, group C showed a drastic improvement and even exceeded group A. Tolman determined that the rats in group C have been learning the maze just as much as group A. The motivation of the reward seemed to increase group C s potential. He termed this as latent learning, which is dormant knowledge that an organism has, but does not express until it is needed. Later on in the study of psychology, cognitive factors were integrated into the study of conditioning. A major theme during the study of conditioning was nature vs. nature (Weiten, 2008). Behavioral traits were thought to be explained through environmental factors, but the recent decades of evidence from the study of classical and operant conditioning has proved that the process of conditioning is impaired by biological constraints. Heritage and the environment once again challenge the theories of nurture when influencing behaviors in organisms. Child care facilities, schools, factories, and major businesses ... • 7. Film Analysis Of The Graduate And Annie Hall Before the 1960s there were plenty of films made. In the 1950s things began to change for, in my opinion, the better. It started with a new form of acting called method acting that encouraged improvisation. This was key because it gave actors more control over their characters which allowed for more realistic representations of characters allowing audiences to connect better to the film. Having more control over a character is something that I found vital because it adds an even deeper element to the film as a whole. Another important thing added in the 1950s was the addition of subject matters and themes that focused on ordinary individuals. This was important again because it added another element to the films that audiences could connect to. In the 1960s there was even more change to the film industry. For example, there was a new focus on youth, with psychological character studies of offbeat anti heroes. More explicit presentation of sexuality, violence and drug use on screen. Rebellion vs. the American mainstream, with new values and points of view. Self conscious use of cinematic effects, reflecting European influence and new twists on old film genre. These new changes can be seen in cinematic and thematic elements in films including The Graduate and Annie Hall. To start this film analysis, we ll start with The Graduate directed by Mike Nichols. Cinematically there were a lot of things added in this film that shows these new features added to films in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Angell s Belief in Functionalism and John Watson s Belief... It was also suggested by Angell(1913) that consciousness was best if forgotten and there should be a objective method of describing animal and human behavior but also believed that if it were to exist , it should definitely be of some use for an organism . The statement also suggests that it was not only John Watson the founder of behaviorism who proposed the idea rather it was thought about before him. His rise and influence was probably because of introducing the idea at a time when it could be accepted by the time and tide of that period. Psychology had been the study of mind from a very long time and was represented by the method of introspection defined as studying the mind by analyzing the thoughts. Angell s functionalism aimed to apply psychology and its methods to real life problems however the problem with both structuralism and functionalism was that the methods were not reliable and introspection was considered to be a problem rather than a solution. Psychology could not convince people of its usefulness and practical problem and the founder of behaviorism John Watson believed that both structuralism and functionalism were subjective and introduced behaviorism as objective. (Moore ,2011) which was considered to be a transformation from one phase of science to another . (Gardner ,1985) Behaviorism has been believed to influence everyday life from parenting and learning to employee perks in organizations. It aims to study behavior and how it can be changed, it ... Abraham Heschel s Definition Of Abraham Lincoln As A Prophet Abraham Lincoln The definition of a prophet, according to Abraham Heschel, is someone who is faithful to God, is passionate, and would risk their lives to spread the truth of God. Prophets like Isaiah were called to go on missions for God, to help people see, and he, with a passion, said Here Am I. Send Me. (Isaiah 6:8). In Jeremiah, God states that he is to be prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:4). Abraham Lincoln was 52 when he became President of the United States of America and became one of the most well known Presidents in United States history. • 10. Value Of Shame In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Carissa Larriuz Mrs. Gordon English 11 29 April 2018 The Value of Shame In modern culture, it is often used as a great threat and punishment to be publicly shamed, multiple judges of the court even sentence this as a punishment. When the term is used loosely, it appears an inappropriate alternative to jail time, yet when speculated closely, public shame is in some ways worse than being put away in a cell. This can be argued due to the behavior spectators display with involvement in the situation firsthand. I believe that although in some cases public shame could be excessive and not fit the crime correctly, that public shaming is an effective and influential form of punishment for certain crimes. Primitively, According to the 8th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept has existed almost as long as humans themselves, right from the beginning of creation in the story of The Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were tempted into committing the first crime known to man and once committed they were punished publicly by being unclothed. This nakedness and sense of vulnerability was a form of public shame because their entity was exposed and they were provided this punishment as a reflection of self assessment. This similar idea is conveyed in Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter. In the most basic sense, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne represent the primary characters in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve. The first scaffold scene, where Hester stands alone with her baby in her arms, in terms of similarities between the story and the biblical one of Adam and Eve, plays on the biblical fact that Eve is said to have eaten the fruit first and then convinced Adam to eat it afterward. The community s belief that women are, by nature, sinful, is backed up by the interpretation of the biblical story and therefore shown in their acts of ridicule to Hester alone. Overall, the use of public humiliation as a way of instilling social discipline in in many ways highly effective when used suitably. It may lack effectiveness if the offender in question ... • 17. A Report On Japanese Tea As Japanese Tea Ceremony is an important part of Japanese food and culture, drinking tea was initially popular in China since the fourth century. From history, tea plants did not grow in Japan initially until the first seeds were brought from China during the Tang Dynasty (China 618 907). During this period, the two countries were at their prime as they were experiencing growing relationships and cultural exchanges between each other. In China, tea was esteemed for its medicinal value and represented an elegant drink. According to legend, the history of tea in Japan was created 1,300 years ago by a Buddhist monk, named Bodhidharma. Uniquely, the story is that he would have a daily routine of meditating for nine years just by staring at the wall of a cave. In his own personal journey, he battled his occasional drowsiness where he has to drink tea to ease the pain. Eventually, he came up with the idea of cutting off his eyelids, so his eyes would not close. Supposedly, on the place where he placed his severed eyelids, the first tea bushes appeared. From this legend, it was reported that this story is why the tea ceremony is so important to Zen Buddhism and Japanese culture as he was an important role model. (Hays, 2013) Initially, tea started as a powdered tea which were tea leaves that are steamed, dried, and then crushed into powder. In addition, the tea developed the split bamboo whisk that was to be stirred into the hot water. Throughout time, China replaced the powdered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critically assess the claim that religious language is meaningless Religious language has been argued about by many philosophers to whether or not the ways in which we speak about religion are relevant or meaningful. For some, religious language is meaningful and full of purpose while others see it to being incomprehensible and pointless. He believed any religious statements that you make are being made from a human s perception and cannot be compared to the brilliance of God. For example, you may get a good grade in an essay and you may claim that God is also good but the two types of good are completely different. The univocal language that we use in day to day life is not meaningless though it does help us to make connections between the world around us and God himself. Analogy of attribution highlights words that can be applied to humans as well as to God. For example, if you claim Anne is good and then say God is good then these are both meaningful statements. When you state that God is good you are saying that he is the source of all goodness because God is the creator and sustains all things. This is meaningful because the statement God is good illustrates that if God created all goodness he must be good himself. According to the analogy of proportion if you say my car is great then you are saying it lives up to your expectation of what greatness is. If you say the religious statement God is a great God you are agreeing that God measures up to what a great God should be. As our country has evolved from the institution of the constitution to our modern day country, the representation of the the people has expanded and changed in the years since the establishment of the U.S constitution. During the creation process of the constitution the framers had one thing in mind and that was to create a system of government that was anything but the tyranny Britain had. Perhaps the biggest flaw Great Britain had been the lack of voice the citizens of England had. Not even the Articles of Confederation began or even mentioned the people in the document. It only made sense for the foundation of our country s future to revolve around the thing that allows our government to function. The citizens run the government, if the citizens don t go out and fight for things to get done then nothing will ever get done. Why so much money? Jerry Mander in his book Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television, lays out the numerous problems that exist with television, a problem that cannot necessarily be improved. In essence, technology is not a tool that is neutral. Mander describes that in different institutions and technologies, such as advertising, mass production, militaries, the basic structure of particular technology or institution establishes its influence on the world, the types of individuals that will make use of it, and how people will use it. Television is a tool that established the kinds of effects it will have on peoples lives, how people will use it, and who will use it, and if such technology continues to be used, the kinds of effects and political forms that will result from it. Mander develops four arguments throughout his book. The first argument Mander describes is that television conditions people to accept another person s authority. He begins by explaining that although television might be interesting and useful it packs people into a mental as well as a physical condition suitable for the appearance of autocratic control. Artificial environments, therefore, strip individuals of obtaining direct knowledge of nature. It had a population around eighty five million making it the largest civilization on Earth. As Professor Clunas points out in the exhibition s exemplary catalog, everything about it was on a grand scale: It had a greater land area, bigger cities (and more big cities), bigger armies, bigger ships, bigger palaces, bigger bells, more literate people, more religious professionals. (Morris). Not only was the Ming Dynasty bigger, it brought many major advances in art, technology, and philosophy during its time. Senator Feinstein cosponsored a bill that has put over 114,000 additional cops in the streets of this nation in order to help fight the crime in this nation. Another big issue that this committee faces with is immigration reforms. For decades this nation has had different perspectives on undocumented people that are within this country. Some people want to help them become documented workers by offering citizenship, visas, or other methods while other people do not. This is an ongoing matter that will continue to be talked about for many years to come not only in the Judiciary committee, but also by the people of this country. The jurisdiction of Foreign Affairs in the House will have an oversight on many different issues that include: foreign assistance, the peace corps, international law, promotion in democracy, and as well as many other matters. A huge issue that they are currently facing is how to defeat ISIS. This members within the committee have been wanting to do whatever possible to stop the current execution of Christians and help the people who are combatting ISIS in the middle east, but the current problem is that the commander in chief, Barack Obama, does not have a strategy to take down the terrorist group. Even though some people may need coke and soda in their personal life, many people have many opportunities to drink water, which is the closest and cheapest fluid. We can drink water in two kinds of ways, bottled water and tap water. Some recent articles recommend choosing tap water for several reasons, even though the investigations of the two kinds of water praised bottled water as better water for us than tap water until a little while ago. Which one is better for us? Both bottled water and tap water are the same water just by looking at them; however, each of one has its merits and demerits regarding health risk, price, environmental impact, and source of water. The first comparison is health risk. The organizations regulating tap water and bottled water are different and the rules for bottled water are generally less strict than tap water rules. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has the authority to monitor all public water systems and sets enforceable health standards regarding the contaminants in drinking water. When drinking water leaves a treatment plant on its way to your house, it must meet strict safety standards. That doesn t mean that your water is free of all contaminants, but that the levels of any contaminants don t pose any serious health risk. (WebMD, LLC. 2014). There are data breaches everyday so patient and providers are concerned about the privacy and security of the HIE. Patients fear that sensitive health information related to dire diseases will be disclosed and used against them in decisions related to health insurance coverage or employment according to Mertz (2009, p.1). Providers are concerned that they will be breaking some health privacy laws of different states if they use a HIE. However, in essence as long as the HIE is following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Privacy and Security Rules then the provider and patients should be safe. This is because HIPPA regulates covered entities such as healthcare providers, health insurers, healthcare clearing houses. They all must follow HIPPA regulations when accessing, using and disclosing your medical information. One main privacy and security concern when talking about a health information exchange is patient matching. Patient matching is used to match patients to medical records that come from multiple healthcare providers.
