Essay about Grand Theft Auto
What started out as a disagreement between mother and son has led me into the
controversial world of Grand Theft Auto. My fifteen year old son desperately
wants this game. All I can hear are the stories of violence associated with this
game, which causes this mother s heart to shudder. So began the search to back up
my denials for his ownership of this game. The Grand Theft Auto series of games
has been surrounded by controversy, however the research does not always back up
public opinion as will be demonstrated in this paper. Grand Theft Auto got its start in
1998 with its original title released for the PlayStation One. The game was
controversial from the get go with many countries protesting it and Brazil even went
so far as to ban... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next release in the series was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This game takes one
back to the 80 s in Liberty City which is modeled after Miami. It is very
reminiscent of the 80 s show Miami Vice. In this game, the main character is a
drug dealer who loses his boss shipment of cocaine and money. He then has to run
around the city and beat up jurors, steal cars, kill pimps and prostitutes for money
and run other unsavory missions. The music is catchy, and for someone who
remembers the 80 s well will enjoy walking down memory lane. The big appeal of
the game is its realism. The downfall is the language and the whole premise of the
game. As soon as the disc is in and the game starts, the first line of dialogue
contains several curse words and racial slurs. The game especially maligns the
Latino population portraying them as drug dealers and prostitutes or strippers. It is
rated M for mature and not recommended for those under the age of 17 as are all the
other Grand Theft Auto games.
The latest big release is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreasand it really escalated all the
elements that seem unsavory from previous games. This installment in the series
allows the main character to change growing fat or skinny, changing hair, clothes, and
tattoos, and upgrading the car. There are rival gangs and the main player can go on
drive by shootings. The graphics in this newest installment heightens
Persuasive Letter About Volleyball
Dear L.M.: As I share the love for the game with many other players around the
country, I will always remember who introduced me to the game of Volleyball. It all
started in the transitional days of middle school, in 7th grade, when I heard
something on the announcements about Boys Volleyball try outs. What I was
contemplating at that moment as I sat there at the beginning of first period was
something I would doubt and argue against to many other people in the years that
followed; that Volleyballis a girls sport. As I now realize, the Volleyball that I play is
anything but a girls type of sport. The fact that I wanted to participate in a school
sport was the main reason I decided to try out for the team. When I entered the gym

Deborah Romero Case Study
Dear Department Evaluation Committee and Faculty in the Department of
Hispanic Studies, I have known Dr. Deborah Romero for the last year. I have had
the pleasure to interact with her extensively over the last semester in her capacity
as my professor in TESL 380: Intro to Linguistics. Several students recommended
that I should take Dr. Romero for TESL 380. I was told that she was intense, but
she was passionate and an excellent professor. After taking her course, I would have
to agree. She has extensive knowledge of linguistics in many languages. Her
experience living in several countries and learning several languages helps her be
an effective professor.Dr. Romero uses technology to enhance the course. She
downloads presentations with voice overs on blackboard which allows more time
for in class discussions and activities instead of lectures. There were a variety of
activities and discussions that were used in the classroom including individual,
small group, and large group. She modeled how we can use a variety of activities in
the classroom to help facilitate learning. An important aspect of Dr. Romero s
teaching is her ability to provide just enough support but allows us to think critically
and independently. She provides information that we need to know for the course, but

Romero speak at Cumbres events about her work with the Greeley Young Authors

undergraduate pre service teachers who help high school immigrants and refugees

community based learning environments. I have had the opportunity to hear UNC
students share their leadership experiences with the Greeley Young Authors program
at Cumbres conferences. UNC students working with the Young Author s program
have also shared their experiences at Research Day, CABE, and other conferences

The Truman Show Delusion
2) My paragraph on the problem: The Truman Show delusion is a psychosis that is
easier to understand when one views it as a cultural manifestation, across countries,
and over time, of delusional disorders. In order to cope with increased levels of
stress, just as an overly sensitive system may resort to clinically recognized
delusions such as grandiosity (imagining themselves to be someone strong and
invulnerable) it is equally probable, given the increasing popularity of reality TV
shows, that the delusion involves becoming a famous version of oneself . The form
the delusional disorder is the same, only the content has changed. This is further
supported by current trends where social media dominates our lives, where one leads

Unisa Building Construction
The UniSA s School of Law is a heritage building with important historical value. It
was built in 1940 41 for the administrative headquarters of the South Australian
Brewing Company. In 1956, extensions were added to the original building. The
Georgian style of the building, was designed by the architect F Kenneth Milne,
who chose clay brick masonry as the material for the structure (Adelaide City
Heritage 2015). Through the years, the building has been exposed to an earthquake
in 1954 (Sinadinovski, Greenhalgh Love 2006), wind loads, humidity, temperature
variations, internal loads and other forces. All these factors have an impact on the
structure and it has led the building to several small structural damages. The aim of
this paper is to research and study the structural behavior of clay brick masonry and
analyse the damages on the UniSA Law building. This will lead to an
understanding of what factors led to the failures and propose an approach of how it
can be fixed. 2. Description of the building I have started this paragraph but am not

Wind, rain and small quakes that Adelaide has experienced since being built has had
an effect on the building. The wind and rain has caused wear and tear over long
periods of time with rain seeping into the brickwork. Earthquakes have also affected
the Law building even though they have rarely occurred in Adelaide. These effects on
the building depend on the magnitude of the earthquake. The biggest earthquake that
the building has experienced happened in 1954 which was recorded to be 5.6 on the
Richter scale. This had an effect on all parts of the building, both internal and
external. These were from the foundations of the building to the roof, damaging the
materials used in the construction and displacing
Globalization And The Fast Food Market

Globalization
It is summer in Ghana and I m walking down a block in my neighborhood. The air is
hazy and dense and the smell of food fills every corner. A city that never used to have
any of foreign foods, now filled with the aroma and signs of fast food restaurants. As I
walked, I realize that there was only one whole food market. Meanwhile, a
McDonald s and Kentucky Fried Chicken were seen on multiple corners. Another
thing I noticed: the majority of people entering the fast food market are from places
that were once filled with only traditionalists. A region where its former citizens
used to invest their time in cooking local traditional food and sold them to the
public and families. These same communities have now become so westernized that
they neglect the traditional side of diet. Instead, everyone now focus on the new fast
food market. People are flocking with their families into the fast food restaurants.
Watching the differences between those who entered the supermarket and those who
entered the McDonalds s, I couldn t help but think about complications minorities
in the United States face from the fast food market. I made a very quick connection
with the United States because I had an idea of how people in the US especially
minorities, suffer from fast food. Some people (fast food victims) in Ghana aren t
any better than minorities in the US. The commonness of fast food in Ghana has
created multiple jobs to
Motherhood
A total of 18 University of California, Los Angeles undergraduate students from a
research methods class were used to fulfill a course requirement. The gender
breakdown was comprised of 15 self identified females, 2 males, and 1 gender queer.
The mean age was an average of 20 with an age range from 18 years to 22 years.
A 2x2 within subjects design was used for the present study. The first independent
variable, of Motherhood, has two levels. The first level is if the applicant was
identified as a Mother, which is defined by having dependents in the home to claim
on their W 2 forms as indicated on the resume. The second level was if the applicant
was a non mother, a non mother was defined as not claiming any dependents on the

The four resumes were printed on 9x11 paper and had on the top left corner the
word name, next to the name was a letter, either A, B, C, or D. A was the first
resume the participant viewed regardless of what was on the resume, B was the
second, C the third and D the last. The way of identifying the resumes was done so
that the letter would not correspond to a specific resume or level and create an
extraneous variable. Underneath the name the word school was listed along with the
school for that given level, either Harvard University for high prestige or California
State University, Long Beach for low prestige. Harvard University was chosen to
operationalize high prestige because as an Ivy League institution there comes a high
reputation and prestige with the name. For the low prestige level, California State
University, Long Beach (Cal State, Long Beach) was chosen because, in comparison
to Harvard University, it is low in prestige. Cal State, Long Beach was chosen as an
equal comparison instead of a community college because they are in two different
states but both have given the student potential to receive a Bachelors of Arts
/Science degree. Under the school, the words extracurricular was listed, and next to
the words were one of four listed extracurriculars that the applicant took part of at the
respective college. The four extracurriculars were either president of a school club,
participation in the school s
Effects Of Social Isolation On Health
Social interaction is important to every aspect of our life. This is because it
connect people live together in impart for love, friend and support. Social
interaction and social support are one of the important component in predicting
the health and well being. In fact, there is a relation between the degree to which a
person feels connected to others or community and their health. However, some
individuals are short of participation, activity and communication which is a result
of social isolation. This involves low levels of social interaction and it is
associated with reduce quality of life and health. This can led to a serious health
risks in people who are socially isolated whether they are elderly, adult and
children. Therefore, this essay will argue that social isolation adversely affects
health not only on mental, physical but also heal behaviours. One of the effects of
social isolation on human is mental health. The first issue is depression that is a
part of mental disturbance. Cacioppo et al. (cited in Roberts 2014) report that
loneliness is considerably related with depressive symptoms. Also, the Victorian
Population Health Survey (cited in VicHealth 2005) found that people with few
social networks were likely to suffer of psychological distress, which lead to
depression. According to VicHealth, there is a relationship between depression and
developing Alzheimer s disease. Indeed Wilson et al. (cited in Roberts 2014, p. 25)
report that who is lonely, are 2 times
Summary Of The Physical Possibility Of Death In The
Mind...
Damien Hirst s The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone
Living is a sculpture of a shark entombed in a rectangular steel vitrine. The vitrine
is designed so that it looks like it is divided into three cubes. The steel that splits up
the vitrine into these cubes is painted white. Inside the vitrine, the shark is entirely
frozen in what looks like clear, blue water. It is positioned so that it is in the center
of the tank. From a side view, the shark s head pops out of the first cube, its body is
in the middle cube, and its tale pops out of the third cube. The shark has its mouth
wide open, showing off its sharp teeth. It looks like it was about to attack someone
or something just before it was frozen in place. From a front view, the insides of the
shark can be seen.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coming close this shark, which looks like it is about to attack whoever is standing
in front of it, is the closest we will get to experiencing death and coming out alive.
The shark evokes unease and fear in its viewers. The open mouth of the shark
brings fright to its observer. If a person was in an ocean with this shark and it was
not frozen in place, then he or she would most likely not make it out of that ocean
alive. Avoiding death in that situation would be The Physical Impossibility of Death ,
as stated in the title. Hence, this artwork, allows a living person to imagine an
unrealistic situation where they can avoid
A Critical Evaluation of The Issue of Taking an Item from...
The act of stealing items from work can be considered as a crime under criminal
statute. The theft act 1968 states that a person is guilty of committing a crime of theft
if that person dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the
intention of permanently depriving . In saying that the four main criminological
presepectives, which include: classical, positivist, interactionist critical criminology,
interpret the act of stealing an item from work differently. Ultimately, the issue of
taking items from work is important as the idea of what constitutes stealing from
work can be blurry. Throughout this essay comparatives and differences on each
perspective will be discussed in terms of human nature, social order, how they... Show

Therefore, there is support for the idea that crime is inevitable within society, as it is
human nature to have a consistent desire to satisfy individual aspirations, which is
outweighed by their individual means (Lawson and Heaton, 1999).
Critical criminology is an adaptation of interactionist criminology, however critical
criminology focuses on the political aspects. It similarly suggests that individuals
engage in meaningful activity, which can be defined as criminal by other outside
members (Burke 2009). These outside members are usually those with political
status. However, it is definitive on the idea that every individual is responsible for
their own actions (Lawson and Heaton 1998). Left realism similarly focus on the
determined human nature of the working class as a result of relative deprivation
(Young 2002) however, they reject the idea that offenders are victims of society
(Jones 2006). Ultimately the focus of left realists is how human nature is affected by
the real fear of crime (Burke, 2009).
In sum, classical theorists would agree that the act of stealing an item from work is
breaking the social contract between society and the government by satisfying the
grounds of breaking the law (Lanier and Henry 2010). Classical criminology states
that individuals agree to join together to form a society in a social contract,

young woman, to one who is willing to subvert once George opens her eyes to that
fact that she is an autonomous person who can do as she pleases. At the beginning
of the novel, she is willing to go along with most of what her cousin Charlotte

Charlotte when she says not to tell anyone what occurred between them. Though she
is clearly not a child, she nevertheless basis many of her choices on what will please

demonstrate much gumption. She makes excuses for his poor behavior and tries to

Essay on I Must Write
I feel like giving up. Stop trying too hard because the result will always be the
same despite of the effort I put in. I have tried to wheedle myself believing that I
can do better, but so far there is no change in the outcome. Time is running out and
hopes of making a change are dying and I am tempted to simply throw in the towel,
and succumb to the defeat. It feels like am trying to catch the wind. Why is this so
hard difficult for me? All I want is to make a step in English. To prove that I too can

extremely difficult. I wonder why it is the only subject that am not doing well or

Now I m forced to plan the little time remaining and finish with a remark to prove
to myself that I can excel in English just as I do in other subjects. Improvements
start today. I believe that my biggest problem is that I do not do much practice in
writing. All my papers have no new ideas, because I do not read my notes, and I
never make use of my extra time to practise the art of writing; even if it is just for
the fun of writing. Since there are only two papers left. I will start with the one
that is needed first, try to limit my time on this paper, evaluate it myself, then find
someone else to go through it before handing it to the teacher. I am good at editing
rather than doing the actual writing; so I must stop the editing and make sure the
paper is complete first, and editing will be the last thing I do. I might not like
writing because it demands more creativity, but I now know that the more I write,
the more creative I become. I realize this is the time to make a sacrifice, that I
should have made before, but because of my ignorance did not. I deceived myself
thinking that i would remember the lecture notes without putting them in ink and
paper. I now figured that to keep a record of my ideas I must be consistent in
writing. I have drained myself by not keeping a journal to help keep my thoughts in
writing and develop new better ideas. Although it seems a little too late, better late
than never, and now I should do it mostly for my
The Means In The Great Gatsby By Francis Scott Key
Fitzgerald
Do the ends justify the means? This is a philosophical question that is proposed by
the book The Great Gatsby by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. Is it acceptable that
Gatsby broke the law just to get closer to Daisy? Or should he be punished for his
crimes and get no sympathy from the reader? The reader is left to decided this on
his/her own. In the book a few characters that are introduced are Jay Gatsby, Nick
Carraway, Daisy Fey Buchanan, Tom Buchanan, and Jordan Baker. Nick Caraway
is the narrator of the book, and he is the only one of the main characters that is not
overly wealthy. He is also the only character that is honest with whom he is.
Gatsby acquired his money through questionable means, and he used it to get as
close to his one true love, Daisy Fey Buchanan, as possible. He believed that he
could be with her again after spending 5 years apart although she is already married
to Tom Buchanan. There was also a complication with Tom s morals; he was on his
third mistress during his marriage. Everything boiled down to a confrontation that
occurred at the Plaza hotel in New York City. Jay wanted Daisy to leave Tom to
come and live with him. When she couldn t fully commit to everything Jay was
asking of her, they drove home in a hurry with emotions boiling over. While on the
way home Daisy was driving, she hit and killed a woman named Myrtle Wilson.
Myrtle happened to be Tom s current mistress, and Tom was furious that he might
be losing both his wife and his mistress. So he lead Myrtle s husband, George
Wilson, on the trail to the murders car, which was Gatsby s. The book ends with
George Wilson first shooting Gatsby, and then killing himself. In Francis Scott Key
Fitzgerald s book The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby truly is a great man for remaining
true to his friends, his true love, and his dream. Jay Gatsby was a very courteous
man. At his parties anything that anyone could have wanted was provided for
them, although many of guests were never invited to his parties. They just showed
up and had a good time. The reader finds this out when Nick Caraway says, I
believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby s house I was one of few guest who
had actually been invited (Fitzgerald 45). Gatsby shows his
North America Economic Factors
While the Spanish and Portuguese were first to establish their empires in the new
world, Great Britain is seen as the most successful colonization effort. Great Britain
began its expansion in the seventeenth century and reached its pinnacle in the
nineteenth century. The original thirteen colonies established in North America
primarily defines this expansion. These colonies would grow and through revolution,
would eventually grow to become the United Statesof America.
The establishment of these colonies generally corresponds with Puritan movement
and the subsequent division growing between this movement within Parliament and
the Monarchy under James I and the Charles I. While much of the establishment of
the colonies can viewed as the pursuit of religious freedom from the Church of
England, make no mistake, the roots can clearly be traced back to economic factors
and the pursuit of commerce. The economic factors were not that of the wealth and
gold secured through a similar path found by Spanish Conquistadors, but the pursuit
of land and cheap labor to cultivate the cash crop of tobacco. These economic forces
led to the extermination of native populations and the introduction of importing
slaves to North America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both these attempts failed. In 1607, Jamestown, named for the newly crowned
King James I, was founded at the mouth of the James River in Virginia. When
slavery was introduced in 1619, the Church of England turned a blind eye even to
the extent that slaves were not baptized by many of their masters. This pursuit of
economic wealth of the powerful eventually resulted in a 1667 law declaring that
baptism did not change a slaves standing or condition. Moving farther east, Georgia
was colonized to help halt the spread of the Spanish empire. This colony also had a
second purpose to provide an alternative to those destined for debtors
Ethical Diversity In Australia
It is through the representation of Australian media that the recognition of ethical
diversity is constructed and challenged. The term Australianness is a paradigm of the
values, culture and tradition that makes Australia Australian. The television soap
Neighbours , represents ideas of Australianness through the casting of diverse
characters, the theme of an Australian neighbourhood and the setting. However,
Australian media has challenged the idea of Australianness by failing to reveal
diversity in a multicultural population. The media has represented Australianness ,
through a typical Australian family, blonde hair, blue eyes mostly white Anglo
Saxon. This impression has challenged the cultural makeup of Australiaand the way

them to feel a sense of connection with the fictional character and raises awareness to
the audiences. Furthermore, Neighbours has introduced two mixed race brothers Leo

is presented with the issue in today s world of sexuality and how it impacts the
individual. In a news article, Tim Kano expresses his thoughts on Australian media
having different ethnicities and races on the show. In any other series, we d just have

Rhetorical Analysis Of Abraham Lincoln s First Inaugural...
Abraham Lincoln had his first inaugural address on March 4, 1861. This was
directed to a specific audience. He had an important message to send to this
audience. Not only did have an important message but Lincoln had an interesting way
of delivering this message. In doing so he did not choose an effective rhetorical
strategy. There are many reasons to why it was not effective. Anyway, Abraham
Lincolnwas speaking to the whole country but, it was mainly directed to the south. It
was directed to the south because the south believed that slaverywas a right whereas
the north believed it was wrong. He states One section of our country believes
slavery is a right and out to be extended, while the other believes sit is wrong and
ought not to be extended. This shows the audience that he speaking to. To this
audience he wanted them to mainly get two important messages. Lincoln states
Physically speaking, we can not separate. We can not remove our respective
sections from each other nor build an impassable wall between them. A husband
and wife may be divorced and go out of the presence and beyond the reach of each
other, but the different parts of our country cannot do this This means that Lincoln
wants to stay united as a nation. Not only that but he wanted the south to get
another message. He states You have no oath registered in heaven to destroy the
Government, while I shall have the most solemn one to preserve, protect, and
defend it. This is saying that if they do not stay united as a country the country will
fall apart and he will have no choice but to start violence, which is how the civil
war started. Lastly, the way he delivered this is he shows how serious this topic
was with the tone he was using. The message he sent to the south was based on
logos. Logos is the logical appeal, which is the way he decided to convince the
south to stay united and not bring any more slaves in. In doing so he uses many
strategies. For example, he states And might it not be well at the same time to
provide by law for the enforcement of that clause in the Constitution which
guarantees that the citizens of each State shall be entitled to all privileges and
immunities of citizens in the several States ? This
The Heliocentric Theory vs. The Catholic Church Essay
The Heliocentric Theory vs. The Catholic Church We view the world today as the
Earth and planets revolving around the Sun.
Naturally, this always wasn t the case. Aristotle created a model in which since God
created the Earth and man, therefore everything should revolve around us, creating a
geocentric model of the known universe. This model was widely accepted by the
people, as well as the Church, since the theory was God centered. It wasn t until
Aristotle s time when scientists started to challenge this model due to advances in
technology and theories, and the heliocentric model was starting to take form, which
went againts what the Church strongly believed. In this paper I will ... Show more

The spherical nature of the Earth and Universe according to Aristotle, is the
natural movement of Earthly matter from all places downwards, to a center,
around which a sphere of matter will build up. Only circular motion is capable of
endless repetition without a reversal of direction, and rotary motion is prior to
linear because what is external, or at least could have always existed, is prior, or at
least potentially prior, to what is not. (North,80) In Aristotle s book De Caelo (On
the Heavens), he speaks of the celestial sphere, the Earth s center being the same
shape, and dismissing the idea of the
Earth rotating at the center of the universe. He also dismisses the idea of an orbital
motion of the Earth. (North, p.81) Contradicting Aristotle, Heracleides, an
astronomer, believed in the rotation of the Earth on it s axis and is known to be the
earliest astronomer to stand by it. He was thought to have taken the first step toward
heliocentricity. It is believed in the years to follow that Copernicus was said to have
mentioned Heracleides name in this connection. (North, p.85) Aristarchus of Samos
was the first astronomer to clearly put forth a true sun centered theory, learned from
Archimedes. (North, p.85) ...Aristarchus hypotheses are that the fixed stars and the
Sun are stationary, that the Earth is carried in a circular

Obesity Is No Jigsaw Puzzle
Cause of Obesity is no Jigsaw Puzzle A public health group called last week for
Governor Gray Davis to declare childhood obesity a state of emergency and take
immediate steps to reduce. But while the California center for public health
advocacy proposes some worthy ideas, the foundation might be aiming at the
wrong target. (Weintraub 1). Weintraub along thousands of Americans argue that
parents are at fault for their children s ever growing bellies and expanding
waistlines, while that may be very true there are other factors leading up to child
obesity. There are many social influences that affect obesity including fast food
advertisements and a lack of self responsibility. In the article, If You Pitch It, They
Will Eat It , it states that since nineteen eighty the number of obese children has
more than doubled to sixteen percent. Many are blaming schools for their lack of
consistent physical education programs but in all honesty it is because of the ever
growing fast food companies via the proliferation of electronic media (Barboza 4).
Just about everywhere you go your bound to come across some type of fast food
restraunt. From McDonalds to Taco bell, Quiznos, Wendys, Jack In the box, you
name it, they got it! It seems like fast food companies purposely dominate areas so
that it would be easier to attract a lot of costumers. Besides the fact that fast food
companies are everywhere, they ve made sure that

marriage. No matter where you look, people are always expressing their opinion on
this issue. Politicians, athletes, and celebrities are some of the many people who
continually come out with either support or opposition of same sex marriage. History
has shown that issues regarding equality and rights take time to move forward. The
women s suffrage movement and the civil rights movement are both prime examples
of the effort and time it takes for movements to become accepted by everyone in the
general public. These movements involve many of the same dynamics that make up
the push for the legalization of same sex marriage. People come together and have
parades or demonstrations, public figures make their opinions known, and slowly
but surely the government enforces change. Today, there are many factors that go
into the debate of legalizing same sex marriage. The debate expands much farther
beyond the idea of whether or not same sex marriage is morally right or wrong.
This decision includes reevaluating previous ideas of what traditional marriage is,
involves instituting new laws, and changing part of the public s opinion on the
idea of same sex marriage itself. As with all issues that are faced by people, there
many are pros and cons that need to be considered before making the big decisions of
legalizing same sex marriage.

500 Days of Summer
A romantic comedy genre films are films with light hearted humor, and they are
centered on the ideas of romance including that true love can overcome all the
obstacles. The film shows a complicated love story which somehow has and a happy
ending. The screenwriter makes it so obvious to the viewers that the two protagonists
belong together by having a mutual interest, making one another smile and laugh, and
regularly bumping into each other making the audience feel that the protagonists
were meant for each other (McDonald, p.7). 500 Days of Summer is an American
romantic comedy with the story based on the male protagonist together with his
memories of a broken relationship. This is a love story between Tom and Summer, but
Summary Of Elie Wiesel s Dawn
In the novel Dawn, author Elie Wiesel writes an intriguing story about Elisha, a
young man just eighteen years of age. Buchenwald had been liberated and Elisha
was in Paris, he was starting over and planned to attend the Sorbonne to study
philosophy. As fate would have it, there was a knock on the door and there stood a
young man named Gad. There was a calmness about Gad and odd that he claimed he
knew everything about Elisha and yet, Elisha knew nothing of this young stranger
that made him uncomfortable. It appeared that Gad s intentions were to recruit
Elisha, and join a group known as the Movement. Without much thought, Elisha
accepts his proposition and joins, for there is nothing more to lose since he no longer
has family or friends.
Alliteration In The Solitary Reaper
While today solitary may mean lonely and sad, but the Romantics tended to have a
much more optimistic view of the word in terms of the world as a whole. Solitary
was generally placed with nature and becoming closer with the true representation of
nature. Many of William Wordsworth s poems are dedicated to nature and a large
portion of them deal with solitary beings. Along with the natural world, during the
romantic era was the French revolution which was dedicated to giving voice to the
common people, something Wordsworth did well. The Solitary Reaper , by William
Wordsworth, is a short example of everything that Romantics believed about solidarity
whilst also adding the feeling of common people in true Wordsworthian and French
Revolutionary fashion. This poem addresses his beliefs about the war along with the
prosperities that encompassed the natural isolation of the romantic movement.
The Solitary Reaper was written just after the end of the French Revolution. Tensions

There is a consistent soft s that comes through each stanza. While each stanza
focuses on different aspects of the scene, this alliteration allows the reader to see
the scene as a whole piece instead of detailed pieces. Along with his use of specific
poetic forms, Wordsworth makes use of varying language in order to help the reader
interpret small details of the poem. The words, High Lass are indicatory of Scotland,
where this is a reference to a young child. While all words in a poem are pertinent to
the understanding, this small reference gives head to the understanding of one of the
many overarching themes of the poem, language and interpretation. While the
narrator does not understand what the reaper is singing, he can feel the tone,
understand the sorrows, and empathize without ever needing to say a

They use technology and other minds to distribute information throughout the
Washington D.C. area (Plot Summary). Minority Report is about three humans that
can predict when a murder is going to take place. There three humans are special
because as kids, they were in terror of their own dreams. They dreamed of murders
that were going to happen. But the government sees it as a way to make the
community better. So, they brought all three of their special human beings together
and began a company that helps them picture murders before they actually happen.
These dreams told the killer, the victim, and the time the murder would occur but
not the location. It would show the government the items in the location, but not
the exact location. The government would go out looking for this criminal before
the crime was committed. Ethical Concern was distributed through this film

his name came up as a murderer. John stole a precog, the people that have the

that they first visiones of was suppose to happen and who the murderer is but it
never happened that way or by that person. The second vision shows the same
vision but small details are different but it is the same victim, they do not know who
the actual killer is. Precrime was a benefit for Washington s government but in the
end it was the total opposite. Sci Fi was also shown in I am
The Origin Of Diversity Within Species
According to Charles Darwin, he suggested that all organisms were descendants
from a common ancestor that was once existed in the past (Darwin 1859). As
organisms share a lot of common characteristics due to common ancestry, the
history of evolution of different species can be known through comparing how
closely their genes and body structures were. The more similar those characteristics
are, the more closely related those species is. However there is a wide range of
diversity between every single species and between every single individual.
Diversification allows organisms to occupy different niches in the ecosystem. In this

Origin of diversity between species
A common ancestor gave rise to all organisms on earth. However, every individual
species developed their own distinct character that allows them to play a specific
role in the ecosystem. Diversity is caused as species are being isolated by
geographic barriers or by sexual selection. The diversity between species can be
present as there is a difference in the species heritable trait. Those organisms that
contain an advantageous allele that allows them to be better adapted to the
environment survive and reproduce. As a result, the advantageous allele will be
inherited by the offspring and the frequency of the advantageous allele will increase
within the population. In the example of Strepsirhini, it was one of the linages that
was evolved form the earliest primates together with tarsiers (e.g. monkeys and
apes) (Hickman, et al. 2011). When Madagascar was separated from the southeast
coast of Africa at about 120million years ago, the Madagasy prosimians where
separated from the rest of the population of apes and monkeys. The Madagasy

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and
convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy
Martin Luther King Junior
I consider Luther King s measure of a man to be accurate and one that I would like
to adopt. I consider myself tenacious and stubborn, but above all ambitious. Like
Macbeth and Coriolanus, my ambition allows me to set out goals for myself that I
am able to complete through my perseverance. However, I deem it important to
always play the man I am and never to allow my ambitions to corrupt me, or to
allow other people to manipulate those ambitions adversely, as happens with both
Macbeth and Coriolanus. In this way I will always be surrounded by people and
objectives that contribute positively to life. Therefore, I do agree with Thabo Mbeki.

Analysis Of The Documentary Genie
In the documentary, Genie was a thirteen year old girl who lived in complete
isolation tied to a potty chair. Genie seemed to have the skills of a newborn. She
was unable to speak, walk, run, or even carry on a conversation like a normal
thirteen year old should. Her skills were extremely lacked even compared to a six
year old. An average six year old is able to carry on a conversation grammatically
correct and/or very close to being correct. A normal six year old has the ability to
understand how some things are used and what they are used for. For example, if
you handed an average six year old a set of keys, he or she would know that what
you handed them were in fact keys that you use in a car or either used to open a
door. In the case of Genie, I don t think she would have known the difference due to
her lack of experience in the world. I believe the skill sets between the two are polar
opposites due to Genie s confinement. Genie never received the opportunity to live a
normal life and do normal everyday activities that most people take for granted.

Why Do People Choose To Be Evil

Julius Caesar Expository Essay The decisions that one man makes can determine the
length of life. Rome has many people that have the characteristics to be great
leaders. Antony is a manipulative man, Brutus is an honorable man, and Octavius is
a quiet strength. All three men would do an excellent job in leading Rome. Antony
is a manipulative man. This is shown throughout the play in several cases, but most
prominently at Caesar s funeral. I thrice presented him a kingly crown which he did

that he presents his case to the people. He uses rhetorical questioning to show the

Additionally, Brutus is also a noble person. Brutus helped in the assassination of
Caesar not for personal gain but for the love of Rome. Not that I loved Caesar lee,
but that I loved Rome more. (III, ii, 21 22). Brutus is able to satisfy that his motive
is pure; that his action is without bitterness and that the assassination of Caesar is
for the general good of Rome. Brutus is also rigidly mortal. I did send to you For
certain sums of gold, which you denied me, For I can raise no money by vile
means. By heaven, I had rather coin my heart And drop my blood for drachmas
than to wring From the hard hands of peasants their vile trash By any indirection. I
did send To you for gold to pay my legions, Which you denied me. (IV, iii, 78 86)
Brutus is distressed with Cassius because he is led to believe that Cassius is
accepting bribes, and denying Brutus the proper money to pay his troops. Brutus
confronts Cassius and tells him that he was wrong to misuse his power and be so
dishonest. Brutus clearly states that he loved Rome more than he loved Caesar,
which in turn keeps his motives pure and his reasons for helping in the assassination
honorable. Above and beyond, throughout the play Octavius is seen as a silent
character, yet shows his strengths in several matters. Octavius is seen to be ill
tempered. Though he is a quiet man if challenged

Many medications can cause erectile dysfunction, but the following are the most

Evaluation And Assessment Of School Improvement And...
Assessments play a vital role in every classroom, and it aids both, teacher and student
in the teaching and learning process. I couldn t imagine managing a classroom
without a guide or source of information that supports effective instructions and
learning. In fact, Wormeli argues that if there is not efficient feedback or assessments
the instruction has zero value (Stenhousepublishers, 2010).
The evaluation and assessment in school improvement and measuring educational
quality when analyzed Assessments focus on the outcome of a specific teaching goal,
and it clearly defines some knowledge students are receiving from teaching
instructions. Newman argues that the most important element of assessment is how
it guides the learner and teacher in the next steps of the learning process (Newman,
2013). Assessments are the best way to measure student s weaknesses, and growth so
that students receive the highest quality of education possible. Its vitality in schools
takes priority in the teaching and learning the process. Newman reminds us that the
validity of the assessment is the extent to which it measures what it was designed to
measure (Kubiszyn Borich, 2010). Therefore, to gauge the quality of education
students are receiving teachers must efficiently and consistently assess students, as
well as create individualize lessons to meet their need.
Roles and trends are correlated to assessment in education. I believe that ultimate

The pericope I chose for my close reading assignment comes from Revelation
chapter 22 verses 1 6. When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is
apocalyptic. In the few short verses there is evidence of an apocalyptic genre such
as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says, Then the angel showed me the river of
the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is apocalyptic because verse 1 is
just one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also apocalyptic because
it has examples of determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is history
moving forward towards a conclusion. The last evidence of this pericope being
apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old and New Ages. The
entire pericope is about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the old
age to a close. Trying to find the boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult,
especially when excluding chapter numbers from making the decision. Both chapter
21 and 22 talk about the restoration Godwill do, including the New Jerusalem and
heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the Garden of Edenwill the garden be inside of the
New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in verse 1 in chapter 22 because of
the slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the restoration was clear

Diamonds Research Papers
Diamonds are the ultimate gemstone, with few weaknesses and numerous strengths.
Diamonds are known for being the hardest substance on earth, but few know
diamond is four times harder than the next hardest natural mineral. One of the
diamonds only flaws are its cleavage. A skilled diamond jeweler can prevent a
diamondfrom being split by positioning it to be struck at the perfect placement.
Diamonds have a wide color range, high refraction, low reactivity to chemicals,
and extreme hardness and durability. Also, the diamond is Aprils birthstone.
Diamonds are typically described as cut, clarity, color, and carat. Cut refers to the
shape of the stone and the quality. The cube and the octahedron are normal forms
for the diamond to be in. The clarity of a diamond is the presence of its impurities,
internal fractures, inclusions and the overall cleanliness in the mineral. Its color,
tends to be pale yellow, brown, grey, white, blue, black, reddish, greenish, and
colorless. Strongly colored diamonds are much more valuable. Colored diamonds are
rare, but that just makes the price go up. A carat is one fifth of a gram. Diamonds that

Before anyone can actually start mining, prospectors have to locate the diamonds
first. Once the pipes are found, huge amounts of soil is extracted. In order to make
the process more efficient, the rocks and the soil are moved to a different location to
begin examination. At that location the ore is processed and the rough diamonds are
extracted. Rough stones are then sorted into different categories, there they are sold,
cut, polished, and commercialized. Another mining method is called Alluvial
Mining. This type of mining is usually in riverbanks or beaches. It involves the

result in more serious injuries. As well as stairs and steps, ramps and kerbs must be
considered (HSA, 2016).
SAFETY STATEMENT AND RISKASSESSMENT| SECTION 19 AND 20
In a healthcare sector where the purpose of the organisation itself is to provide care
and health security to their residents, a safety statement and risk assessment is
mandatory not only for residents but employees and anyone who have come in and
out of the workplace premises. In Mary s case the safety committee and the
management have failed to follow the 2005 Act and General Application Regulations
2007 in developing a safety statement which includes a written risk assessment that is
reviewed and kept up to date (HSA, 2012).
Safety statement specify how the health and safety of employees are secured and
managed. Concerning health and safety it will include:
A policy that states the employers commitment in providing a safe place of work.
Duties of the employers and employees.
Guidelines for employees consultation and communication of health and safety
Pulp Fiction Comparative Essay
The way in which gangster figures are portrayed with consideration to gender roles
and ethnicity within each film will be analysed. The Godfather , Pulp Fiction and
Scarface are being explored because they are three movies known for being
inspirational in establishing the gangster genre conventions at various points in film
history. Scarface was highly influential within this genre and when it was released
there was not the same censorship as there is in the 21st century. The representation
of gangster figures has been a controversial topic throughout the 20th and 21st
century and Dr Fran Mason argued that The gangster film has...been considered to be
a subversive form of filmmaking . Whether it was because of how Italians were
portrayed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly to Scarface and The Godfather , violence and crime are key themes in the
films and therefore the male characters dominate the violent scenes and radiate
willpower. Mia Wallace, the wife of the gangster Marsellus Wallace is portrayed as
powerful and seductive. At first, it appears that she is stable within her
relationship with Wallace, and is additionally feared by other individuals such as
Vincent, when he arrives at her house to escort her for a night out. However, later
on Mia mistakes heroin for cocaine and manages to overdose, which results in her
relying on the man in her life because she is so weak. Even so, in the promotional
poster of Pulp Fiction , Uma Thurman (Mia), is shown posing on a bed with a
cigarette in one hand and a gun in front of her. This in many ways signifies power
as the gun has become a key piece of iconography in the gangster genre, and guns
hold a lot of power in them as they have the ability, with help, to kill or cause
serious bodily harm. Nevertheless, this is misleading as the women, specifically
Mia Wallace, do not actually hold any power in the film. Mia Wallace s character is a
reminder of Marsellus
The Birth Control Movement Essay example
The Progressive Era was a period of social and political reform beginning in the post
Gilded Age 19th century and lasting through WWI. Industrial and urban growth of
early 19th century America while representative of opportunity and future
advancement simultaneously posed many difficulties for working class citizens. Prior
concerns over the conditions of working class citizens were multiplied and magnified
by overpopulated and impoverished urban communities. During this era many new
Progressive agendas were introduced with the goal of reforming dated and
unregulated policies, the most prominent of these, the birth controlmovement. The
documents from chapter six of Constructing the American Past show that at its core,
the birth control... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In document three from The Case for Birth Control Sanger s rhetoric changes,
relying on facts, statistics, and knowledge based reasoning. Document three proves
to be a much more reliable and comprehensive argument than document one. Sanger
advocates small families for the working class as a means to eliminate poverty (due
to large families), illegal abortions, child labor, and to protect the health of women
from overwork and the strain of too frequent child bearing (6, 3,124) The argument
shifts from a pseudo socialist agenda to simply the right of a woman to control her
own body and choose her own destiny. Following the release of The Woman Rebel,
Anthony Comstock spearheaded an anti birth control campaign with the aid of the
Society for the Suppression of Vice, vice as Comstock described it intemperance,
gambling, and evil reading (6,1,122). Document 2 is an interview with Comstock
by Mary Alden Hopkins of Harper s Weekly on the issue of birth control and the
laws against its distribution and publication. Comstock approaches the birth control
issue as a religious zealot, arguing that it is the moral and spiritual obligation of the
people to stray from vice and practice abstinence as the only means of family
planning. Comstock s conservative rhetoric appealed to the Victorian era principles
of self control and moral fortitude. Moreover, Comstock employs the ideology of rule
by fear, by

  • 2. Essay about Grand Theft Auto What started out as a disagreement between mother and son has led me into the controversial world of Grand Theft Auto. My fifteen year old son desperately wants this game. All I can hear are the stories of violence associated with this game, which causes this mother s heart to shudder. So began the search to back up my denials for his ownership of this game. The Grand Theft Auto series of games has been surrounded by controversy, however the research does not always back up public opinion as will be demonstrated in this paper. Grand Theft Auto got its start in 1998 with its original title released for the PlayStation One. The game was controversial from the get go with many countries protesting it and Brazil even went so far as to ban... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next release in the series was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This game takes one back to the 80 s in Liberty City which is modeled after Miami. It is very reminiscent of the 80 s show Miami Vice. In this game, the main character is a drug dealer who loses his boss shipment of cocaine and money. He then has to run around the city and beat up jurors, steal cars, kill pimps and prostitutes for money and run other unsavory missions. The music is catchy, and for someone who remembers the 80 s well will enjoy walking down memory lane. The big appeal of the game is its realism. The downfall is the language and the whole premise of the game. As soon as the disc is in and the game starts, the first line of dialogue contains several curse words and racial slurs. The game especially maligns the Latino population portraying them as drug dealers and prostitutes or strippers. It is rated M for mature and not recommended for those under the age of 17 as are all the other Grand Theft Auto games. The latest big release is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreasand it really escalated all the elements that seem unsavory from previous games. This installment in the series allows the main character to change growing fat or skinny, changing hair, clothes, and tattoos, and upgrading the car. There are rival gangs and the main player can go on drive by shootings. The graphics in this newest installment heightens

It all started in the transitional days of middle school, in 7th grade, when I heard something on the announcements about Boys Volleyball try outs. What I was contemplating at that moment as I sat there at the beginning of first period was something I would doubt and argue against to many other people in the years that followed; that Volleyballis a girls sport. As I now realize, the Volleyball that I play is anything but a girls type of sport. The fact that I wanted to participate in a school sport was the main reason I decided to try out for the team. When I entered the gym on

I have had the pleasure to interact with her extensively over the last semester in her capacity as my professor in TESL 380: Intro to Linguistics. Several students recommended that I should take Dr. Romero for TESL 380. I was told that she was intense, but she was passionate and an excellent professor. After taking her course, I would have to agree. She has extensive knowledge of linguistics in many languages. Her experience living in several countries and learning several languages helps her be an effective professor.Dr. Romero uses technology to enhance the course. She downloads presentations with voice overs on blackboard which allows more time for in class discussions and activities instead of lectures. There were a variety of activities and discussions that were used in the classroom including individual, small group, and large group. She modeled how we can use a variety of activities in the classroom to help facilitate learning. The Truman Show Delusion 2) My paragraph on the problem: The Truman Show delusion is a psychosis that is easier to understand when one views it as a cultural manifestation, across countries, and over time, of delusional disorders. In order to cope with increased levels of stress, just as an overly sensitive system may resort to clinically recognized delusions such as grandiosity (imagining themselves to be someone strong and invulnerable) it is equally probable, given the increasing popularity of reality TV shows, that the delusion involves becoming a famous version of oneself . It was built in 1940 41 for the administrative headquarters of the South Australian Brewing Company. In 1956, extensions were added to the original building. The Georgian style of the building, was designed by the architect F Kenneth Milne, who chose clay brick masonry as the material for the structure (Adelaide City Heritage 2015). Through the years, the building has been exposed to an earthquake in 1954 (Sinadinovski, Greenhalgh Love 2006), wind loads, humidity, temperature variations, internal loads and other forces. All these factors have an impact on the structure and it has led the building to several small structural damages. The aim of this paper is to research and study the structural behavior of clay brick masonry and analyse the damages on the UniSA Law building. This had an effect on all parts of the building, both internal and external. These were from the foundations of the building to the roof, damaging the materials used in the construction and displacing
  • 7. Globalization And The Fast Food Market Dennis Asante Professor Okoror Global Health 09/17/14 Globalization It is summer in Ghana and I m walking down a block in my neighborhood. The air is hazy and dense and the smell of food fills every corner. A city that never used to have any of foreign foods, now filled with the aroma and signs of fast food restaurants. As I walked, I realize that there was only one whole food market. Meanwhile, a McDonald s and Kentucky Fried Chicken were seen on multiple corners. Another thing I noticed: the majority of people entering the fast food market are from places that were once filled with only traditionalists. A region where its former citizens used to invest their time in cooking local traditional food and sold them to the public and families. These same communities have now become so westernized that they neglect the traditional side of diet. Instead, everyone now focus on the new fast food market. People are flocking with their families into the fast food restaurants. Watching the differences between those who entered the supermarket and those who entered the McDonalds s, I couldn t help but think about complications minorities in the United States face from the fast food market. I made a very quick connection with the United States because I had an idea of how people in the US especially minorities, suffer from fast food. Some people (fast food victims) in Ghana aren t any better than minorities in the US. The commonness of fast food in Ghana has created multiple jobs to

A was the first resume the participant viewed regardless of what was on the resume, B was the second, C the third and D the last. The way of identifying the resumes was done so that the letter would not correspond to a specific resume or level and create an extraneous variable. Underneath the name the word school was listed along with the school for that given level, either Harvard University for high prestige or California State University, Long Beach for low prestige. Harvard University was chosen to operationalize high prestige because as an Ivy League institution there comes a high reputation and prestige with the name. For the low prestige level, California State University, Long Beach (Cal State, Long Beach) was chosen because, in comparison to Harvard University, it is low in prestige. Cal State, Long Beach was chosen as an equal comparison instead of a community college because they are in two different states but both have given the student potential to receive a Bachelors of Arts /Science degree. Under the school, the words extracurricular was listed, and next to the words were one of four listed extracurriculars that the applicant took part of at the respective college. • 9. Effects Of Social Isolation On Health Social interaction is important to every aspect of our life. This is because it connect people live together in impart for love, friend and support. Social interaction and social support are one of the important component in predicting the health and well being. In fact, there is a relation between the degree to which a person feels connected to others or community and their health. However, some individuals are short of participation, activity and communication which is a result of social isolation. This involves low levels of social interaction and it is associated with reduce quality of life and health. This can led to a serious health risks in people who are socially isolated whether they are elderly, adult and children. Therefore, there is support for the idea that crime is inevitable within society, as it is human nature to have a consistent desire to satisfy individual aspirations, which is outweighed by their individual means (Lawson and Heaton, 1999). Critical criminology is an adaptation of interactionist criminology, however critical criminology focuses on the political aspects. It similarly suggests that individuals engage in meaningful activity, which can be defined as criminal by other outside members (Burke 2009). These outside members are usually those with political status. However, it is definitive on the idea that every individual is responsible for their own actions (Lawson and Heaton 1998). Left realism similarly focus on the determined human nature of the working class as a result of relative deprivation (Young 2002) however, they reject the idea that offenders are victims of society (Jones 2006). Ultimately the focus of left realists is how human nature is affected by the real fear of crime (Burke, 2009). In sum, classical theorists would agree that the act of stealing an item from work is breaking the social contract between society and the government by satisfying the grounds of breaking the law (Lanier and Henry 2010). Classical criminology states that individuals agree to join together to form a society in a social contract,

  • 14. The Means In The Great Gatsby By Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald Do the ends justify the means? This is a philosophical question that is proposed by the book The Great Gatsby by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. Is it acceptable that Gatsby broke the law just to get closer to Daisy? Or should he be punished for his crimes and get no sympathy from the reader? The reader is left to decided this on his/her own. In the book a few characters that are introduced are Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, Daisy Fey Buchanan, Tom Buchanan, and Jordan Baker. Nick Caraway is the narrator of the book, and he is the only one of the main characters that is not overly wealthy. He is also the only character that is honest with whom he is. Gatsby acquired his money through questionable means, and he used it to get as close to his one true love, Daisy Fey Buchanan, as possible. He believed that he could be with her again after spending 5 years apart although she is already married to Tom Buchanan. There was also a complication with Tom s morals; he was on his third mistress during his marriage. Everything boiled down to a confrontation that occurred at the Plaza hotel in New York City. Jay wanted Daisy to leave Tom to come and live with him. When she couldn t fully commit to everything Jay was asking of her, they drove home in a hurry with emotions boiling over. While on the way home Daisy was driving, she hit and killed a woman named Myrtle Wilson. Myrtle happened to be Tom s current mistress, and Tom was furious that he might be losing both his wife and his mistress. So he lead Myrtle s husband, George Wilson, on the trail to the murders car, which was Gatsby s. The book ends with George Wilson first shooting Gatsby, and then killing himself. In Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald s book The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby truly is a great man for remaining true to his friends, his true love, and his dream. Jay Gatsby was a very courteous man. At his parties anything that anyone could have wanted was provided for them, although many of guests were never invited to his parties. They just showed up and had a good time. The reader finds this out when Nick Caraway says, I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby s house I was one of few guest who had actually been invited (Fitzgerald 45). Gatsby shows his

Great Britain began its expansion in the seventeenth century and reached its pinnacle in the nineteenth century. The original thirteen colonies established in North America primarily defines this expansion. These colonies would grow and through revolution, would eventually grow to become the United Statesof America. The establishment of these colonies generally corresponds with Puritan movement and the subsequent division growing between this movement within Parliament and the Monarchy under James I and the Charles I. While much of the establishment of the colonies can viewed as the pursuit of religious freedom from the Church of England, make no mistake, the roots can clearly be traced back to economic factors and the pursuit of commerce. The economic factors were not that of the wealth and gold secured through a similar path found by Spanish Conquistadors, but the pursuit of land and cheap labor to cultivate the cash crop of tobacco. He had an important message to send to this audience. Not only did have an important message but Lincoln had an interesting way of delivering this message. In doing so he did not choose an effective rhetorical strategy. There are many reasons to why it was not effective. Anyway, Abraham Lincolnwas speaking to the whole country but, it was mainly directed to the south. It was directed to the south because the south believed that slaverywas a right whereas the north believed it was wrong. He states One section of our country believes slavery is a right and out to be extended, while the other believes sit is wrong and ought not to be extended. This shows the audience that he speaking to. To this audience he wanted them to mainly get two important messages. Lincoln states Physically speaking, we can not separate. We can not remove our respective sections from each other nor build an impassable wall between them. A husband and wife may be divorced and go out of the presence and beyond the reach of each other, but the different parts of our country cannot do this This means that Lincoln wants to stay united as a nation. Not only that but he wanted the south to get another message. He states You have no oath registered in heaven to destroy the Government, while I shall have the most solemn one to preserve, protect, and defend it. This is saying that if they do not stay united as a country the country will fall apart and he will have no choice but to start violence, which is how the civil war started. Lastly, the way he delivered this is he shows how serious this topic was with the tone he was using. The message he sent to the south was based on logos. Logos is the logical appeal, which is the way he decided to convince the south to stay united and not bring any more slaves in. In doing so he uses many strategies. For example, he states And might it not be well at the same time to provide by law for the enforcement of that clause in the Constitution which guarantees that the citizens of each State shall be entitled to all privileges and immunities of citizens in the several States ? This model was widely accepted by the people, as well as the Church, since the theory was God centered. The spherical nature of the Earth and Universe according to Aristotle, is the natural movement of Earthly matter from all places downwards, to a center, around which a sphere of matter will build up. Only circular motion is capable of endless repetition without a reversal of direction, and rotary motion is prior to linear because what is external, or at least could have always existed, is prior, or at least potentially prior, to what is not. (North,80) In Aristotle s book De Caelo (On the Heavens), he speaks of the celestial sphere, the Earth s center being the same shape, and dismissing the idea of the Earth rotating at the center of the universe. Cavataio PHL 118: Intro to Philosophy 8/14/14 Gary Fuller One of the most heated and debated topics today is the legalization of same sex marriage. No matter where you look, people are always expressing their opinion on this issue. Politicians, athletes, and celebrities are some of the many people who continually come out with either support or opposition of same sex marriage. History has shown that issues regarding equality and rights take time to move forward. The women s suffrage movement and the civil rights movement are both prime examples of the effort and time it takes for movements to become accepted by everyone in the general public. These movements involve many of the same dynamics that make up the push for the legalization of same sex marriage. People come together and have parades or demonstrations, public figures make their opinions known, and slowly but surely the government enforces change. Today, there are many factors that go into the debate of legalizing same sex marriage. The debate expands much farther beyond the idea of whether or not same sex marriage is morally right or wrong. This decision includes reevaluating previous ideas of what traditional marriage is, involves instituting new laws, and changing part of the public s opinion on the idea of same sex marriage itself. As with all issues that are faced by people, there many are pros and cons that need to be considered before making the big decisions of legalizing same sex marriage.

Antony is a manipulative man, Brutus is an honorable man, and Octavius is a quiet strength. All three men would do an excellent job in leading Rome. Antony is a manipulative man. This is shown throughout the play in several cases, but most prominently at Caesar s funeral. I thrice presented him a kingly crown which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition? (III, ii, 96 96). Antony is very cleaver in the way that he presents his case to the people. He uses rhetorical questioning to show the people that Caesar was in fact not ambitious. Antony also played on... Not that I loved Caesar lee, but that I loved Rome more. (III, ii, 21 22). Brutus is able to satisfy that his motive is pure; that his action is without bitterness and that the assassination of Caesar is for the general good of Rome. Brutus is also rigidly mortal. I did send to you For certain sums of gold, which you denied me, For I can raise no money by vile means. By heaven, I had rather coin my heart And drop my blood for drachmas than to wring From the hard hands of peasants their vile trash By any indirection. I did send To you for gold to pay my legions, Which you denied me. (IV, iii, 78 86) Brutus is distressed with Cassius because he is led to believe that Cassius is accepting bribes, and denying Brutus the proper money to pay his troops. Brutus confronts Cassius and tells him that he was wrong to misuse his power and be so dishonest. Brutus clearly states that he loved Rome more than he loved Caesar, which in turn keeps his motives pure and his reasons for helping in the assassination honorable. Above and beyond, throughout the play Octavius is seen as a silent character, yet shows his strengths in several matters. Octavius is seen to be ill tempered. Though he is a quiet man if challenged

In fact, Wormeli argues that if there is not efficient feedback or assessments the instruction has zero value (Stenhousepublishers, 2010). The evaluation and assessment in school improvement and measuring educational quality when analyzed Assessments focus on the outcome of a specific teaching goal, and it clearly defines some knowledge students are receiving from teaching instructions. When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is apocalyptic. In the few short verses there is evidence of an apocalyptic genre such as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says, Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is apocalyptic because verse 1 is just one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also apocalyptic because it has examples of determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is history moving forward towards a conclusion. The last evidence of this pericope being apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old and New Ages. The entire pericope is about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the old age to a close. Trying to find the boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult, especially when excluding chapter numbers from making the decision. Both chapter 21 and 22 talk about the restoration Godwill do, including the New Jerusalem and heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the Garden of Edenwill the garden be inside of the New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in verse 1 in chapter 22 because of the slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the restoration was clear that it was the New Jerusalem. Would John, the author, chunk the pericope as both chapter 21 and chapter 22:1 5? While the chosen pericope starts talking about the

In document three from The Case for Birth Control Sanger s rhetoric changes, relying on facts, statistics, and knowledge based reasoning. Document three proves to be a much more reliable and comprehensive argument than document one. Sanger advocates small families for the working class as a means to eliminate poverty (due to large families), illegal abortions, child labor, and to protect the health of women from overwork and the strain of too frequent child bearing (6, 3,124) The argument shifts from a pseudo socialist agenda to simply the right of a woman to control her own body and choose her own destiny. Following the release of The Woman Rebel, Anthony Comstock spearheaded an anti birth control campaign with the aid of the Society for the Suppression of Vice, vice as Comstock described it intemperance, gambling, and evil reading (6,1,122).
