A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor
Flannery O Connor s Southern Gothic short story, A Good Man is Hard to Find, is one of
sudden violence; although, it begins rather uneventful (Kaplan 1). Bailey, his wife, and their
children, John Wesley, June Star, and a baby boy, are all looking forward to a trip to Florida.
Grandmother, Bailey s mom, wants to go to east Tennessee to see her relatives, not Florida. She
uses an article in the newspaper that tells of an escaped criminal, the Misfit, which is headed to
Florida to try to persuade her son into not going there. Her attempt at persuading her son fails, and
so the adventure begins. While the grandmother and the Misfit are the central figures of Flannery O
Connor s short storyA Good Man is Hard to Find, Bailey, John Wesley, and June Star prove to be
instrumental characters because they are used to show a change in the mood of the story.
O Connor shows the reader through her writings that Bailey plays the role of a father, husband,
and son, and he tries to succeed at all of them. He is a man that is portrayed to be strong,
protective, and intelligent by the author (Nester 126). Another side of Bailey that rarely comes out
but is important to the story is his temper. After the familyhas a car accident, the grandmother
mentions that she is afraid of Bailey, and what he might do to her since she ultimately was
responsible for the car accident. This gives the reader a hint of violence in the story. The reader
also sees his unstable and rather intolerant

Business Plan (Record Company)
Business Plan: Starting an Independent Record Label Introduction First of all I am setting down
the employees of Les Incompetentsв„ў . There are three of us: The Label manager (who is
responsible for running the label), an A R (the talent scout who mentors the artist through to
final recording) and a business developer (who is responsible for the business deals). Although
every one of us has a specific title, being a small independent label, we all work on every issue.
The funding of the label came from our personal funding (representing 85% of our funding). I, the
head of the label brought 55% of the full funding, the two other equally brought 15% each of
personal funding into the label. Three of our friends (5% each) came in... Show more content on

The contract can be found at the end of the document, Appendix A. So we own the copyright in
the recordings for a minimum of five (5) years. RECORDING The album will be recorded at
Urchin Studios in London (www.urchinstudios.co.uk), new studios since 2007, price remains
affordable without letting go of the quality side. They are operating with Strokes producer Gordon
Raphael. As past clients they have had Emmy The Great, Skin, Jeremy Warmsley, Transgressive
Records. We will operate on a daily fee of ВЈ200 for a 9 hour day inclusive of all equipment and
engineer; we have to look at problems such as overtime which will cost us ВЈ30 per hour or such
as additional cost hours after 9pm which are at engineer s discretion. It would be lovely to work in
Pinna Studios (www.pinnaproductions.com) but much more expensive. Lately these studios have
seen the likes of the Kills, Razorlight, MTV, Endemol but the costs are much higher so they will
be hopefully used as future reference. Just to se the differences, their daily rate is 350ВЈ all
services included but only for an eight hour day. Another solution would be recording the album in
Paris as the Band is French at studioras (http://studioras.free.fr/). They are a new studio and the
daily costs would be 28O€ with engineer for an eight hour day which roughly represents 220£. I
thought that recording was going to be much cheaper if done in France but after

Freight Vs Scripture
FedEx Freight vs. Scripture: Putting people first.
FedEx Freight attempts to put people first by: Allowing the freedom to generate and express
ideas; through providing the ability to hold management accountable; and by encouraging
decision making capability (Hess Cameron, 2006, pp.29 54). These methods are encouraged
within job structures while simultaneously providing the necessary resources the employees need
to accomplish their assigned tasks. This process of putting people first is effective as long as it is a
top down approach. Leadership must show that these values are real by modeling a do as I do
attitude instead of do as I say.
The Scriptures certainly teach people to put others first (KJV, Matt 7:12, Luke 6:31), and it
encourages free thought within biblical parameters. FedEx is similar to the Bible methodology in
that it encourages people to help others and build relationships; however, there is one major
difference. All of the things that FedEx is attempting to do are things that upper management chose
to do. Upper management chose the culture they thought was best and then they have spent the next
several years forcing it on the entire organization. They failed to work as a cohesive unit and see
what the people. This forced acceptance happens in many organizations. ... Show more content on

FedEx should have involved the employees in developing the values of the organization. Scholars
call this concept employee engagement, and it is part of strategic management (Marcos Solomon,

Judaism Compare And Contrast
The topic I choose to write about is Judaism. Like other religions, there are differences in the
religion. I decided to compare and contrast the different types of Judaism. Writers compare and
contract in order to understand their similarities and differences ( Vandermey 2012 pg. 182 ).
Judaism is a monotheistic religion. Judaismis 3,500 years old, is the oldest of the monotheistic
religions. The first attestation of the word Judaism occurs in 2 Maccabees, a Greek abridgment of
a history of the Maccabean revolt that was written ca. 124 BCE References Satlow, M. L. (2006).
Monotheism is the worship of a single powerful God. The prefix of mono means one. Monotheism
usually tends to affirm the expressions such as absolutism which is the acceptance of or belief in
absolute principles of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you really dissect each religion you will find that they have more in common than differences.
They all promote love for God and mankind. The Jewish tradition stems from Abraham s covenant
with God. Jews believe that God made a covenant with Abraham that he would be the father of a
great people if he followed God s instructions. The covenant was the promise God made with
Abraham that his people would be sacred and give them a holy land. Judaism is a tradition
grounded in the religious, ethical, and social laws as they are articulated in the Torah which is the
Jewish holy book. There are several different sects in the Jewish religion such as Reformed,
Conservative, and Orthodox Jews. The main difference between the belief systems is the approach
to Torah and the implications of that approach. It is how a Jewish community interact with Torah
that defines them as Conservative Jews ( Grossman 2005

The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning
Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution,
culture is a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides
people s ways of life, communicated from one generation (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has
seen humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime,
cumulate over generations (Henrich McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive
cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd Richerdson, 1996).
Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used microsocieties to simulate different generations
in a population. In such studies, participants are replaced with a naГЇve participant within their
groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum,
Richerson, Efferson, Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential
characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural
evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous
generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across
generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social learning (Tennie, Call,
Tomasello, 2009). Social learning theory proposes that individuals can learn in a social context, for
example, by observing others

Analysis Of Fog Falling On Cedars
Taking Flight I sit in this AP Language and Composition class trying to decipher the essence of the
unending annotations and floods of random texts for the past quarter. Little did I know that I
would be taking flight and soaring through the smallest details and threads of literary devices and
techniques of analyzing language. Before this class, I looked at a book, aware that it was filled with
potential symbolism and crucial themes that were definitely worth considering. Yet, I often paid
far less attention to the way words are crafted in efforts to create a beautiful masterpiece. Who
knew that the jargon used in Snow Falling on Cedars could significantly shape the overall tone of
the book? From the years leading up to this class, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Welty describes the first steps of reading as human, but inward...It is to me the voice of the story
or poem itself (Welty 11). Picking up from my knowledge of personification, I gained a new
perspective on how books play an impact on how one thinks when reading a piece, as it describes
the voice of the book as a human. Having said, this gave me the idea that books establish a personal
connection between itself and the reader. Following through with the next chapter, Welty
recognizes the value of the summer trips she experienced with her family. She makes an
interesting analogy between her trips and reading by calling them stories. Not only in form, but in
their taking on direction, movement, development, change...each trip made its particular
revelation, though I could not have found words for it (68). Connecting this to the title of chapter
two, learning to see when reading requires looking closely at the small details and soaking it in, in
a way that one can look back upon it later. Once one starts to carefully listen and look at the
fluidity and rich ingredients a book has, he/she can find their own voice, which leads into the next
chapter. Reading spurs imagination which then allows one to explore their own inner being. Welty
best describes her encounter of this by explaining my imagination takes its strength and guides its
direction from what

Causes And Effects Of The Indian Ocean Tsunami
When people ask me how it felt, I just say imagine being thrown into a washing machine and
someone pressing on for 10 15 minutes (Crashing Down: A Tsunami Survivor Tells His Story),
says Victor Israelsson, a survivor of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. The Indian Ocean Tsunami of
2004 was a massive disaster in size, affects, and casualties. On December 26, 2004 the Indian Ocean
erupted into one of the biggest tsunamis in Earth s recorded history. The tsunamiwas caused by a
massive 9.0 earthquakethat was located near the coast of Sumatra. The extreme movement of the
Earth s tectonic plates displaced water in the Indian Ocean. The energy of the quake was compared
to the equivalent of 23,000 Hiroshima type bombs. The energy forcibly shot through the ocean in
every direction and displaced the sea floor. The Indian Ocean Tsunami traveled around 300,000
miles to Africa, but still carried the momentum to kill people and destroy property. Scientists
concluded that the tsunami height was between 9m high along the entire stretch of the coast, the
average tsunami height is 3m (10 ft). The Indian Ocean Tsunami caused waves three times bigger
than the average tsunami, the Indian Ocean Tsunami was the third largest tsunami in the 2000 s.
An inverse method is developed to optimize the seafloor displacement on the fault plane based on
the measurements of satellite Jason 1. Many things were affected during this tsunami, some things

Descriptive Essay On The Fire
Footsteps
Many years ago, on August 15th, 1733, a small, unnamed town was nearly submerged in
scorching hot flames. A man named Louis James Tacha was one of the civilians that was killed
by the fire. Louis tried to help other people who have been swept away by the fire near the
swinging bridge. The sleeve of his white, long shirt sparked with a flame which engulfed the rest
of his body within seconds. He frantically tried to escape the snare of the fire, but his attempts
failed. He decided to jump into a rocky, fast moving river as his last attempt to survive. Louis
James Tacha s body was never found. Some say his spirit still lurks around the swinging bridge to
make others disappear into the river to symbolize how quickly someone can be forgotten. The few
survivors of the fire gave the name, Burnside, to the town to remember the event that took place on
that cool summer night.
Today, August 12th, 1983, is a big day for thirteen year old, Marcie Goupil, as she goes to an all
girls summer camp in Burnside, Tennessee, for her first time. Marcie is aroused with excitement
as she places her last few shirts into her over filled duffle bag. As Marcie and her dad pull up to the
camp, she sees large, dull looking trees with pointy branches, and leaves that started to change
colors, just barely covering a sign that reads, Camp Rio. All around her, counselors and campers
radiate with joy. No one seems to be vexed that sky is dim from clouds hovering over the earth.

Communication Is A Cornerstone Of Building A Strong...
Introduction
Communication is a cornerstone of building a strong relationship (Robinson, 2012). Numerous
studies show that marriages that do not have an effective communication between partners easily
end up in divorces. Researchers have identified the habits that people have that hinder effective
communication in marriages (Kusi Kusi, 2015). These habits are: avoiding the expression of
honest feelings and opinions about issues; failing to listen to a partner and being quick to react to
the partner s comments on issues; being subjective in a dialogue; failing to allow a partner adequate
time to respond to one s questions; and using negative impolite language that seem to order a
partner rather than request a partner (Kusi Kusi, 2015). These habits and much hinder effective
communication in marriages, which often lead to divorces.
Topic Problem
Many people believe that infidelity is the major cause of divorces in relationships. However, this is
not the case. The main cause of failure in a relationship is the lack of proper communication.
Infidelity, trust issues, different expectations, addictions, responsibilities, money issues, narcissism,
and different priorities are simply the underlying factors that cause a deterioration in
communication among couples (Wright, 2000). Consequently, poor communication, which is
triggered by the underlying factors, is the basic cause of break ups (Chapman, 2013). This research
aims to affirm that poor communication is the major cause

Neuroplasticity and Justice
Justice is often thought of in nebulous terms. As such, it is often viewed through a philosophical
lens. Indeed, justice has been examined by prominent philosophers such as John Rawls and
Friedrich Hayek. Often regarded as a soft science, the idea of justice finds itself the subject of a
theoretical framework rather than of scientific study. Despite this theoretical view, much of the
theory surrounding justice seeks to determine the causes for a given type of behavior. These
theories discuss which penological methods work to correct these behaviors. However, the theory
that one can modify his or her brain in order to create new behaviors exists within the scientific
biological/psychological realm. By contrast, there are those... Show more content on

This is concurrent with the logical, conscious reasoning of the C system that overrides the X system
s prototypes in order to closely analyze a new situation and adapt accordingly. Thus, fairness
(justice) is an extension of cognitive behavioral regulation. Akin to the sense of reparation that
Jackman (2012) discusses when one applies the concept of restorative justice, the concept of
neuroplasticity also seeks a sense of reparation, albeit in a more literal way. Consistent with the idea
of learning and the brain s interaction with the environment, neuroplasticity is the idea that the
human brain can change and grow, that it can modify itself to compensate for weak spots and
expand limits (Cockrell, 2007). For example, it was once thought that neuron production slows
down exponentially in adulthood, but research reveals that this is not the case. Research has found
that the brains of aging cancer patients were still able to produce new neurons (Cockrell, 2007). The
human brain is an extremely complex organ. Inside the average human brain, there are 200 billion
neurons. These neurons allow for trillions of connections (Arrowsmith, 2013). Arrowsmith (2013)
discussed Mark Rosenshwag, a neuroscientist who conducted an experiment with rats. Rosenswag
placed the rats in a stimulating environment and found that rats were better learners because of the
stimulation. More importantly, he noted that the brains of the rats being studied changed

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Instruction In Higher...
Nowadays, the role of technology in instruction is undeniable. We live in a digital world. No one

coursework in higher education has seen an unquestionable explosion (Scott, 1999). Although the
use of technology in higher educationis more prevalent, it also shows it s significant in early

Richard E. Clark stated in his research (Clark, 1994):
First, there was no significant difference in test scores between the two groups despite the
experimental groups not attending even a single on campus lecture. This was amazing to those
associated with the study, all of whom half hoped to validate the significance of the class lecturer to
the learning process. This is not to say that Internet based instruction was not heavily impacted by
the instructor. It only suggests that role of the instructor changed for the Internet based instruction.
Therefore, distance education might not necessary prevails the learning in authentic classroom.
There are some downsides for distance learning too. For instance, the virtual and non face to face
learning space might makes some students feel lonely and isolated. They could not experience the
conviviality of a campus life. Although this problem can be solved by frequent online contact with
instructors and taking part in virtual help groups, virtual forums or virtual campus (Fominykh,

These architectures have limited instruction sets built into the processor. As a result, fewer
transistors have to be used in processor construction. Due to this evolution, more space is saved
on the microprocessor. This results in a lower overall cost for the unit. To do the same work as the
CISC processor can do, a lot more RAM or memory is required. However, RISC processors were
initially favored for scientific purposes because these applications required a less large instruction
set than general purpose computers. As time passed, there have been produced an increasing
number of gen eral purpose computers using RISC microprocessors. These processors only use sim
ple instructions that can be executed within one clock cycle.
Going back to our example above, the MULT command could be divided into three separate
commands: LOAD (data is moved to a register from the memory bank), PROD (the product of
two operands located within the registers is found), and STORE (data is moved from a register to
the memory banks). Four lines of assembly would be needed in order to perform the same steps

Critical Discourse Analysis Of CDA
Methodology
Critical Discourse Analysis
In writing this paper, the writer derives the theory from Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA),
which is an approach to the analysis of discourse which maintains that, language is a social
practice and analyses how ideologies and power relations are approached in language (Fairclough
Wodak, 1997, p 258; Lin Guo, 2016). Fowler and Kress, 1979; Van Dijk, 1993, 1983; Fairclough
Wodak, 1997; Wodak Meyer, 2009, and Foucault, 1972, are among theorists who have made great
contribution to the development and implementation of CDA. It is worth taking into account that
CDA has its roots in Critical Linguistics and can be taken as a development of Critical Linguistics
(Hailong, 2006). Language and Control (Fowler ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

racism and negative attitudes are derivative of elite racist discourse. In other words, the role of
elites in the discursive reproduction processes of the system of racism is prominent (Van Dijk,
1997, p32). Numbers of the prejudicial beliefs and attitudes of the public are originated from their
understanding of elite discourse in the form of textbooks, massages, media, political discourse, and
corporative discourse (Van Dijk, 1983: p23).
The main tenets of Critical Discourse Analysis have been put forth by Wodak and Fairclough

Juvenile Prevention Programs
The Implementation of Juvenile Prevention Programs their Effectiveness A journal article,
Effective correctional intervention programs for juveniles: review and synthesis of meta
analytic evidence, written by Kim, Merlo and Benekos claim there are relevant factors that
determine the effectiveness of a juvenile corrections program. Such factors primarily include the
knowledge that what works for adults does not necessarily mean it is going to work for a
juvenile. There is not a one size fits all model that can be applied to youth and adult offenders
(Kim, Merlo, Benekos, 2013). In response to recidivism, if a juvenile is treated similarly to an
adult, there is no guarantee there will be a comparable success. Another factor for effective

The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein Meaning
The Giving Tree is a sentimental poem by Shel Silverstein. The main lesson of this poem revolves
around absolute selflessness, it s evident. However, despite this essential, meaningful teaching,
there are other underlying themes that are just as influential, if not more. These other lessons,
perhaps, are vital to a happy life. The Giving Treepreaches around ideas like: going barefoot, just
being there for someone, and that happiness is a place between too much and too little. The
relevancy of these life lessons are indescribable.
Firstly, going barefoot might be the way to walk. The meaning of this short phrase conveys that
the stress free life of a naive child running barefoot in the yard is something taken for granted.
People are too busy pushing kids into their future that they forget, sometimes childhood is what
they should be revisiting. The hardships of life is something only people with a certain maturity
can fully effect. Once there was a tree....and she loved a little boy. And everyday the boy would
come and he would gather her leaves and make them into crowns and play king of the forest. He
would climb up her trunk and swing from her branches and eat apples. And they would ... Show

What this quote conveys is that having too little is an evident struggle, financially, support, a
home, a loss is a loss. It s an emptiness that has yet to be filled. It is a place where genuine
happiness has a hard time taking place. However, throughout the poem, throughout the boy s life,
he keeps coming back to the tree asking for things. He picked her apples to receive money. He
took her branches to build himself a house. He cut her down to use her trunk to make himself a
boat. He had all these wonderful things expecting happiness as a result, but still came back to her.
Utter happiness is a great pair with contemptment. Not too much, but not too little. It took the boy

A Common Social Theme Of History
A common social theme of history is the constant battle of equal rights for both men and women.
Ever since the development of the first agricultural societies during the BC times, people have
been living in a society where paternalism and patriarchy dominated; men are always at the top of
the social hierarchy. Men were always the leaders, the priests, the ones who decide what was right
and what was wrong. Women have battled for equality with their malecounterparts ever since then.
They have fought for their right to vote. They have fought for their right to speak at religious
liturgies. They have fought for their right to equal job and educational opportunities. Social equality
between men and women will always be a never ending... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, many have discovered that women can perform just as well as men. After serving in battle and
demonstrating noteworthy acts of bravery and performance under enemy fire, women have been
earning Combat Action Badges. Two women Sergeant Leigh Ann Hester and Specialist Monica Lin
Brown have received Silver Stars, one of the highest military decorations a person can receive
(Mackenzie). These women have been doing extraordinary work in the field, explaining why
they received such a high symbol of military respect. Their lack of strength does not inhibit their
mentality and physicality to do whatever they need to do to protect their country. Also, females
who do enlist are generally more fit than the average woman (Mackenzie). This is a common
fallacy in the argument of those who say women are not as fit as men and therefore are not as
capable: they base their assumptions on the ability of the average women while remaining
oblivious to the ability of those who actually enlist. Militaries across the world have found that
with proper training, women can complete the same tasks as men that require strength that many
seem to say women lack (Mackenzie). During the Gulf War, about 400,000 female soldiers fought
and did not fail because of a lack of upper body strength (Quindlen). Rather, 33,000 of those
females directed artillery, flew planes, and served in construction squads

may make a journey to the gym seem suddenly unappealing.
One of the top fitness tips shared by those who are dedicated to regular fitness is to plan ahead for
the season. Think about what you could do to adjust your fitness plans for the weather, and put
them into action long before you think about giving up.
Don t Skimp On Stretching: When you re short on time, it s all too easy to skip stretching before
and after your workout routine. Don t be tempted to do this yourself, as the results could be fatal.
Missing one stretching session could result in an injury that could ruin your fitness plan for
weeks. And while you re unable to exercise, the body you ve worked so hard for will deteriorate.
Exercise to Music You Love: Take the time to put an MP3 together that includes music that you
love to exercise to. This is one of the ultimate fitness tips as recent research has shown that listening
to music you enjoy actually increases dopamine levels, and makes you feel happier.

In the late 1940s outlaw motorcycle gangs were formed. These groups made up of veterans from
World War 2, which overtime as the numbers grew they became organized and sophisticated. In the

powerful groups. These groups were called the Hell s Angles, the Outlaws, the Pagans and the

The Chinese Language
Upon thinking of the Chinese Language most individuals who are not already familiar with the
language or Chinese culture will be thinking about the world s most commonly spoken language
which is Mandarin. Mandarin is the languages spoken and written by the han Chinese who
constitute more than 90% of the country s populations (Language and Dialects). So, it is
reasonable that many people have a more limited knowledge on this particular subject. However, the
history of the languages of Chinais one of great significance extending far beyond just Mandarin.
There is a great history that accompanies the languages in China. When discussing the languages in
China one has to keep in mind that it is not just the spoken languages at play here. While the
spoken languages are very important, in a way the written language is much more essential. This
written language can be broken up into two parts, the characters (汉еђпјќhanzi) and then pinyin;
which is how the characters are pronounced. The verbal languages spread across China is one of
diversity, the dialectal variances between areas within China is amazing. The history surrounding
the spoken languages in China is also rather remarkable. When a republic was declared in 1912,
there was no common spoken language in China. Yes. Imperial officials had communicated in

Learning Disabled Students With Learning Disabilities Essay
A learning disabled student not only suffers from being below average in academics, but in many
cases these students suffer with mental illnesses. Students with learning disabilities have lower self
determination in academics and struggle in post secondary education (Jameson, 2007). Higher
levels of anxiety and test taking anxiety can additionally be found in students with learning
disabilities (Nelson, Lindstrom, Foels, 2015). Studies also show that students with learning
disabilities have a higher rate of depression (Ashraf, Najam, 2015). Why are learning disabled
individuals struggling with self worth? The extreme social pressures everyone faces daily has a
negative affect students with learning disabilities. Students with learning disabilities are self
conscious of their impairment. Schools should not only focus on giving extra academic assistances
to students with learning disabilities, but also give resources to help fight mental illness in these
students. Students who have learning disabilities should not suffer from low self determination,
anxiety, and depression. There will be discussion on why these students suffer at a higher rate from
mental illness, and discuss a solution to this issue.Social pressure is a feeling that every human
being has experienced. Humans are naturally social, and be it consciously or subconsciously, all
humans want to fit it. Social pressures come in many forms, such as peer pressure, socioeconomic
pressure, and academic pressure.

Vagus Nerve Stimulation
This article discusses how an electrical shock given to a nerve that travels from the brainstem to
all the organs, called the vagus nerve, can help to stop autoimmune diseases. In the past,
stimulation of the nerve was used to treat epilepsy and depression. In 1998, a neurosurgeon by the
name of Kevin Tracy at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research found that the stimulation of
the vagus nerve in rats greatly reduced the production of TNF a which is a protein that helps the
process of inflammation. Basically, when this nerve is stimulated, it releases increased
noradrenaline in the spleen to immune T cells. In turn, the T cells release more acetylcholine to
the macrophages. Last, these macrophage release less of the pro inflammatory TNF a. To carry on
Tracy s work, Akiko Nakai at the Osaka University in Japan found that nerve stimulation limited
what T cells could do in the bloodstream in the process of inflammation. Over... Show more content

Although there is no cure for autoimmune disease, this treatment could potentially be very
effective and efficient. The power of the electrical shock needed to stimulate the nerve is miniscule
relative to its effects on all the organs it connects to, including the most important one to this
treatment, the spleen. Unlike other treatments, all this requires is an electrical shock that is
accessible at any medical center.
This article interests me personally because I find that the interdependence of the nervous and the
immune system is fascinating. Two different organ systems that have only one common goal: to
maintain homeostasis. In all other aspects, they are prodigiously different on how they work, why
they work, and what they do for the body. This article also shows how humans these days are

Dracula By Bram Stoker
The legend of the vampire in history is boundlessly frightening to all and fascinating to people
world wide. Vampires are creatures of the night who live by feeding on the blood of human
beings. Stories of vampire creatures have been told around the world from nearly the beginning of
time itself. The way they look, their tendencies, purposes, and other characteristics of vampires,
appear to differ based on the time period in which the vampirefolklore originated or what culture it
derived from. These cultures such as the Mesopotamians, Hebrews, Ancient Greeks, and the
Romans all have various folklores that explain how the vampire came to be. However, the folklore
for the creature we know currently as the vampire originates from the early 18th... Show more

Originating its characteristics in folklore where is it often seen as grotesque, the vampire in
modern day is seen to be more attractive, sexual, and, in some ways, not as fearful. Various types of
literature containing these monsters have been the spotlight and main influence of how the world
views them today. In Bram Stoker s Dracula, the literature takes a turn for the vampire that lets
the world view it as more of civil being. Often people in today s society due to this novel think of
fangs, a pointy nose, wearing a cape, and one not having a reflection when thinking of a
vampire. Throughout this book Stoker represents the uneasiness of society at the time, including
capitalist greed, homosexuality, as well as female sexuality. In the beginning of the novel,
Johnathon Harker arrives at the castle of The Count and when first introduced he is in
confusion of who he is actually meeting. In the line, What manner of man is this, or what
manner of creature is it in the semblance of man? (Stoker chp.3,p.48), Stoker is essentially
representing the fear of humanity s animal nature and not having that sense of control over
them. The Count describes himself as a hunter of sorts and with that comes the thirst for blood.
With vampires today, the main thing people think of is most likely how they replenish
themselves with blood, as sometimes especially within folklore this was not always a
characteristic of the monster. Throughout the novel there are multiple instances in which The

Megan Kanka Case
Megan Kanka and several other children have been the reason for the safety of children around
this country. I know that you re wondering in what way this person contributed to the safety of
other children. Well Megan Kanko was a 7 years old child who was next door from a previously
charged pedophile in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. The difference between then and now is
that in the past there were no laws stating that pedophiles had to inform those who lived near
them that they were there, of their past convictions, or even some type of registration available.
This was the case of Megan Kanka s offender, Jesse Timmendequas. His record consisted of
attempted aggravated sexual assault of a 5 year old girl in Piscataway, New Jersey, in 1979. He
had pleaded guilty to the charges for attempted aggravated sexual assault. He was given a
suspended sentence, but he failed to go to counseling, so he was forced to spend nine months at
the Middlesex Adult Correctional Center. In 1981, he again pleaded guilty in regards to the sexual
assault of a seven year old girl and was imprisoned, at Avenel, for six years. He s an example of a
recidivist who was controlled and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

federal version of Megan s Law , they eventually on September 13, 1996, the Megan s Law

Field Programmable Gate Array ( Fpgas )
ABSTRACT:
Placements of logical blocks in FPGA use many optimization algorithms in heuristic manner. Main
objective is to provide minimization in wire length during the task placement inside Reconfigurable
FPGAs, which will decrease the area, power and delay and increase the speed of execution.
Optimization algorithms are applied in the Benchmark circuits and the results are compared. Due to
the technological advancement, density of the devices increases so that necessitates improvement
in minimization of wire length. Hence this project, proposes an optimum solution for wire length
minimization.
KEYWORDS:
FPGAs, Optimization algorithm
INTRODUCTION
Field Programmable Gate array (FPGAs) is becoming important implementation platforms for the
digital circuits. The main requirement is to utilize the FPGA s static resources in proficient
manner. Most of the commercial FPGAs will have the same structure. A 2D array of programmable
logic blocks that can implement multiplicity of bitwise logical functions bounded by channels of
wire segments to interconnect logic block I/O.

Quantum Mechanics Essay
Quantum Mechanics
Quantum Mechanics is the science of subatomic particles and their behavior patterns that are
observed in nature. As the foundation of scientific knowledge approached the start of the
twentieth century, problems began to arise over the fact that classic physical ideas were not
capable of explaining the observed behavior of subatomic particles. In 1913, the Danish physicist
Neils Bohr, proposed a successful quantum model of the atom that began the process of a more
defined understanding of its subatomic particles. It was accepted in the early part of the twentieth
century that light traveled as both waves and particles. The reason light appears to act as a wave
and particle is because we are noticing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This observance is what Werner Heisenberg refereed to as the principle of uncertainty, which
commonly became known as Heisenberg s Uncertainty Principle. We have the illusion that position
and momentum can co exist in large objects whose inherent action is huge compared to subatomic
particles. Heisenberg realized that the uncertainty relations had profound implications. Heisenberg
set himself to the task of finding the new quantum mechanics to explain what his theories
observed. He relied on what can be observed, namely the light emitted and absorbed by the atoms.
By July 1925, Heisenberg wrote his answer in a paper. The basic idea of Heisenberg s paper was to
get rid of the orbits in atoms and to arrive at new mechanical equations. Heisenberg s approached
focused mainly on the particle nature of electrons. The mathematics Heisenberg used were tables
commonly used for multiplication of arrays of numbers mathematical objects known as matrices.
Using the mathematics of matrices, scientists had at last a new mechanics for calculating the
quantum behavior of particles. Heisenberg, and others showed that the new quantum mechanics
could account for many of the properties of atoms and atomic events.
Most physicists were slow to accept matrix mechanics because of its abstract nature. Erwin
Schrodinger came up with a mathematical equation which nicely described the wave nature of
electrons. Scientists gladly

The Major Problems Of Population Overcrowding In Canada
Problems of Population Overcrowding
The day when population of GTA reach its maximum may be just around corner. Where and why
are people concentrated in GTA? Most people tend to live in cities rather than sub urban areas due
to amenities, job opportunities, infrastructure and educational facilities. Also, immigrants are the
major reason why the population overcrowded in cities. According to the Government of Ontario,
over the past
20 years, the target range of immigrants has been increased gradually. For example, the target
range of immigrants was 280,000 to 320,000 in 2017 and 260,000 to 285,000 in 2016. These
numbers are about
0.75 per cent of total population in Canada each year. (Ministry of Finance, 2007). These factors
cause population overcrowding in GTA and it may lead to several problems such as traffic jams,
housing bubbles and the rise in the homeless rate. These problems can be solved by moving
infrastructure, regulating using a car once a week and implementing training programs.
These days, some people believe that traffic jams occur more often than before. The Toronto
Transit System is slowing down due to heavy traffic. Statistics Canada stated that the number of
vehicles registered in the Control Vehicle System is 18,608,297 in 2005. But, in 2017, the number
of vehicles registered in Ontario is 11,948,296, which is almost two third of number in 2005.
(Statistics Canada, 2017).

Developing And Managing Offerings Process
DEVELOPING AND MANAGING OFFERINGS The seven steps in the offering development
process are idea generation, idea screening, features specification, development, testing,
marketing and evaluation. THE ACTIVITIES INVOLVED: 1. Idea generation This is the first
stage and it is easy and less expensive to generate, but the most expensive part of this is making
it a reality. The activities involved are carrying out a research using SWOT analysis (Strength,
Weakness, Opportunities and Threat), focus group and corporate spies to get an idea into
developing a new product. Creating the idea and gathering information from customers by
watching and listening to them is another activity involved in idea generation and determine if
the offering is worth pursuing. The idea can come from anywhere; it could be from employee,
customers, suppliers, competitors and distributors. 2. Idea screening This is the second stage in
the offering development process. At this stage, the idea created, gathered and about to be
developed is looked into properly to determine if: i. it will add value to customer, ii. it will it
meet the need of the customers, iii. it will it be ready, the quantity and the price to sell to the
market iv. it is within the budget of the company; v. the company will make a profit and how much.
The organisation must be able to assess that the offering looks and work right (investment risk) and
fit for the purpose (opportunity risk) and if not, the idea needs

Corporate Competition, Monopoly, And Monopoly
A firm, an organization which employs resources in order to provide a product or service at a
profit, can be grouped into one of four distinct market structures: perfect competition,
monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Each market structure has its own unique
characteristics. Once a firm is classified, one is able to understand how price and output are
determined by a firm. Beval Saddlery, a firm established in May 1955 by Bev Walter, grew from
a shop in a one car garage to a renowned organization in the equestrian world. Through analysis of
the number of firms in the saddlery industry, the types of products produced by the firms, the ease
of entry into the industry, and the control the individual firms have over the sale price of products,
the industry in which Beval Saddlery operates can be categorized as a monopolistic competition.
To begin with, a monopolistic competition is one of the four major market models. A monopolistic
competition is an industry made up of many producers. The producers in a monopolistic
competition provide differentiated products. Product differentiation includes varied physical
characteristics of products, customer service, and or locational convenience. Differentiation allows
firms to be prominent in the industry. Since goods and or services are differentiated, there is a
considerable amount of emphasis on non price competition, advertising. Although the competition
is prevalent in this market, entry into the industry is

What Is The Theme Of The Kiss By Kate Chopin
The Kiss
The Kiss is Kate Chopin s short story about a woman scheming to marry a wealthy man. The story
was written on September 19, 1894, and first published in Vogue on January 17, 1895. The
contents of the story are as follows.
The outside was still light, but the curtains were covered inside and the light smoke from the
fireplace emitted a dim, strange light on the room, leaving dark shadows. Brantain was sitting in
one of these shadows, and he was clenched and uncomfortable. Thanks to the darkness, he could
comfortably direct his love filled gaze to the girl sitting in the fireplace. The girl was so beautiful,
she had a beautiful skin color for healthy brunette girls, and she seemed very calm as she stroked
the silky feather of the cat in her lap. And occasionally, he looked glanced at his friend in the
shadows. They were talking about different things, not what ... Show more content on

In the same way, he described the room as full of deep shadows , reflecting the relationship of
Chopin Brantain and Nathalie, not all as they seem (at least for Nathalie). Something that is clear to
the readers as they continue to read the story. Chopin seems to be discovering passion and money.
Although it is clear that Brantain loved Nathalie at any stage in the story, the reader doubts that this
love is mutually shared. There is an attitude saying that Nathalie married Brantain, not love, but
rather a comfortable life with Brantain; A rich manwho is aware of the reader (as opposed to
Harvy). It is possible that Chopin s women (who wrote the story) might claim that people have
established financial security or stability, and instead of marrying love, many women should
marry men who can. Give them financial security. Even if we do not like Nathalie Brantain (as it
is with Harvy), it does not have economic independence to live his life as he

How Is Zionism Still Relevant
Is Zionism Still Relevant?
There is no difference whatever between anti Semitism and the denial of Israel s statehood.
Classical anti Semitism denies the equal right of Jews as citizens within society. Anti Zionism
denies the equal rights of the Jewish people its lawful sovereignty within the community of nations.
The common principle in the two cases is discrimination. Abba Eban (New York Times, 1975).
Zionism is a Jewish national and political movement that supports the re establishment of a Jewish
homeland in the Land of Israel (the Holy Land ). The movement was emerged in the end of the
19th century in Europe. Over time, different Zionism ideological movements was raised, but all of
them considered Theodor Herzl as the founder of the Zionist movement. The ancient main goal of

Genghis Khan And The Mongol Empire
Founded and ruled by Genghis Khan, the Mongol Empire, became known as the largest contiguous
empire in history because it s land stretched throughout Southeast Asia and to Eastern Europe.
Established in the 13th century in 1206 CE, the empire grew rapidly connecting most of Eurasia
establishing trade routes and passing ideologies through 14 million square miles. Genghis Khanwas
instrumental to the formation of the empire bringing the rest of the world under one sward . It was
Khan s genius mind and manners that persuaded tribes to unite and have total victorious power
when it came to war tactics. The Mongol invasions consisted of deadly battles and strategies used
to conquer most of Asia between 1200 1300 CE. Finally, it wasn t until the death of Khan that the
empire really took a turn and began expanding at an exponential rate. The Great Khan position was
passed through family members that contributed to the growth of the empire in Eurasia.
Genghis Khan grew up in poverty. During these adolescent years, TemГјjin mastered the art of
personal courage in battle learning how to deal with people and building trust with his loyal allies
to get what he wanted. In contrast, he also learned that to improve one s position one must be
willing to betray allies. Genghis Khan grew up Tengrist, a central Asian religion that consisted of
both polytheism and monotheism, but he was curious and open to learning about other religions.
This attitude allowed Khan to relate to the nomads as

The Future For Trade Unions
1.The future for trade unions Trade unions have played a crucial role in developing a democratic
society in terms of monitoring and enforcement in the areas of wages and employment conditions.
(Landau et al 2014, ????) It has been argued that the Industrial Commission gave Australia both
political and competitive advantage and provided both members and non members, significant
workplace gains throughout most of the 20th century. (Ref) Whilst not formally united with the
Australian Labour Party (ALP), the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has sustained
close association with it. The ACTU has played a critical role in Australian politics. Bob Hawke
was president of the ACTU from 1970 to 1980, and went on to become labour prime minister from
1983 to 1991. The establishment of Australia s Industrial Relations Reform Act in 1993, which was
intended to streamline the collective bargaining process, largely resulted in a decline in ACTU
membership. (Ref) In 2006, the Howard governments WorkChoices laws came in to effect.
Employees saw this as opportunity to remove unfair dismissal protection, while reducing employee
entitlement, removing the independent industrial arbitrator and ultimately weakening trade union
muscle. (Wilson Spies Butcher 2011) In 2006 07, a critical movement came with the ACTU s Your
rights at work campaign. The campaigns objective was to build enough opposition to WorkChoices
in order to defeat the government during the 2007 election. It

The Usage Of Proper English
1.) I think it is important to strive for both the usage of proper English and to present good ideas
as a criteria for academic papers or in an academic setting. The reason I am convinced that usage
of proper English creates clearer communication is because of my experience in the business
world. Through schooling I have learned how to speak and write better and use words that
pertain to the business I practiced. I have worked in the teaching profession and have
experienced what happens when a parent does not have a clear idea of the educational goals the
teach and school has for their child, or the overall goals that the particular school holds as
valuable. I taught in a Montessori School and Montessori has a particular educational model that
each school follows to a certain degree. It is the owner s prerogative to determine how closely they
follow the Montessori Method. Therefore, as a parent there are several things to be concerned
with. 1.) What model did Maria Montessori use? 2.) To what degree does the school follow the
Montessori Method. 3.) Do I understand and agree with the educational process 4.) What are the
goals the Montessori teacher is setting for my child? Therefore, clear communication is essential in
business. .As stated in the article by Exforsys. Why Speaking Proper English is Important for Your
Career. June.6,2007 A number of studies have consistently demonstrated that those who have an
advanced knowledge of the English language are much more

A Saintlike Power In Saint Marie By Louise Erdrich
A Saintlike Power
There are different kinds of power. There is, of course, the power over another person. A power
in superiority, in dominance that makes people afraid. There s power in acceptance too. Any
person who has been welcomed by their peers has more power than one that has not. In my own
life, I struggle with power, and what kind of power I should want. My need for power likely
stems from a fundamental desire to fit in. Some days the power I crave is simply in acceptance.
Acceptance from peers, friends, or family. On other, less agreeable days, the power I desire is in
superiority, dominance, the power to make people listen to what you have to say. In the short story
Saint Marie by Louise Erdrich, Marie, like me, seeks power. However, the power she craves is in
relation to God and the convent she has been raised to look up to. At the convent, Marie
struggles between wanting acceptance from the Sisters and desiring superiority over them,
especially Leopolda. The first, acceptance, Marie mentions before joining the convent: I was
going up there to pray as good as they could (1). Marie strives to be as good: as holy as the
Sisters. Once she joins the convent, she hopes to be accepted by them. Superiority, the second
kind of power, she uses as a threat to Leopolda. Marie threatened that she would get to heaven
first, and when Leopolda arrived, she would shut the gate (5). Here, she strives for superiority over
Leopolda by blocking her out of heaven rather than

Nonsense Is Defined by Its Inability to be Defined Lewis...
The definition of nonsense has been debated throughout literature. Yet nonsense itself cannot be
defined, but rather it is defined by its inability to be defined. It s the destruction or defiance of the
norm that often leads to creation of nonsense. The language of nonsense itself is closely
intertwined with various techniques of style, structuralization and various motifs. Authors such as
Lewis Caroll in Alice and Wonderland and Edward Lear s The Complete Nonsense of Edward
Lear use such techniques to invoke the language of nonsense as well as to create nonsense within
their writing. Both Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear use the language of nonsense is also defined
by paradoxes, the play on stereotypes, and the usage of polysemy. Lewis... Show more content on

In such a structure, Lear creates a paradox in that he uses various stereotypes of each individual
that he chooses and breaks and defies that stereotype. In the creation of such limericks, Lear is
specific in choosing adjectives; he uses places such as Portugal , Madras , etc. In such places
there is an assumption of a stereotype of the individuals from those places, yet instead of
creating that stereotype he creates nonsensical actions for those individuals. Both Carroll and
Lear use polysemy throughout their nonsense. Polysemy can be defined as words or phrases
having multiple meanings. Carroll uses polysemy in the fact that the creatures often take
specific words for face value. For instance, the word mad has multiple meanings, it can either
mean angry or crazed. Carroll is very careful to create the mad hatter and the as mad as a March
hare as the same individual (Carroll). Yet it is in this matter that also fuels the nonsensical
element has the mad hatter becomes a paradox. Lear uses polysemy as well throughout his
limericks. For instance, There was an Old Person of Leeds/Whose head was infested with beads...
(Lear, 12). The word beads could refer to the things that jewelry is made of or a reference to ones
sanity (i.e. often called marbles in today s society). Such a play on words allow for the

  • 2. A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor Flannery O Connor s Southern Gothic short story, A Good Man is Hard to Find, is one of sudden violence; although, it begins rather uneventful (Kaplan 1). Bailey, his wife, and their children, John Wesley, June Star, and a baby boy, are all looking forward to a trip to Florida. Grandmother, Bailey s mom, wants to go to east Tennessee to see her relatives, not Florida. She uses an article in the newspaper that tells of an escaped criminal, the Misfit, which is headed to Florida to try to persuade her son into not going there. Her attempt at persuading her son fails, and so the adventure begins. While the grandmother and the Misfit are the central figures of Flannery O Connor s short storyA Good Man is Hard to Find, Bailey, John Wesley, and June Star prove to be instrumental characters because they are used to show a change in the mood of the story. O Connor shows the reader through her writings that Bailey plays the role of a father, husband, and son, and he tries to succeed at all of them. He is a man that is portrayed to be strong, protective, and intelligent by the author (Nester 126). Another side of Bailey that rarely comes out but is important to the story is his temper. After the familyhas a car accident, the grandmother mentions that she is afraid of Bailey, and what he might do to her since she ultimately was responsible for the car accident. This gives the reader a hint of violence in the story. The reader also sees his unstable and rather intolerant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Business Plan (Record Company) Business Plan: Starting an Independent Record Label Introduction First of all I am setting down the employees of Les Incompetentsв„ў . There are three of us: The Label manager (who is responsible for running the label), an A R (the talent scout who mentors the artist through to final recording) and a business developer (who is responsible for the business deals). Although every one of us has a specific title, being a small independent label, we all work on every issue. The funding of the label came from our personal funding (representing 85% of our funding). I, the head of the label brought 55% of the full funding, the two other equally brought 15% each of personal funding into the label. Three of our friends (5% each) came in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The contract can be found at the end of the document, Appendix A. So we own the copyright in the recordings for a minimum of five (5) years. RECORDING The album will be recorded at Urchin Studios in London (www.urchinstudios.co.uk), new studios since 2007, price remains affordable without letting go of the quality side. They are operating with Strokes producer Gordon Raphael. As past clients they have had Emmy The Great, Skin, Jeremy Warmsley, Transgressive Records. We will operate on a daily fee of ВЈ200 for a 9 hour day inclusive of all equipment and engineer; we have to look at problems such as overtime which will cost us ВЈ30 per hour or such as additional cost hours after 9pm which are at engineer s discretion. It would be lovely to work in Pinna Studios (www.pinnaproductions.com) but much more expensive. Lately these studios have seen the likes of the Kills, Razorlight, MTV, Endemol but the costs are much higher so they will be hopefully used as future reference. Just to se the differences, their daily rate is 350ВЈ all services included but only for an eight hour day. Another solution would be recording the album in Paris as the Band is French at studioras (http://studioras.free.fr/). They are a new studio and the daily costs would be 28O€ with engineer for an eight hour day which roughly represents 220ВЈ. I thought that recording was going to be much cheaper if done in France but after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Freight Vs Scripture FedEx Freight vs. Scripture: Putting people first. FedEx Freight attempts to put people first by: Allowing the freedom to generate and express ideas; through providing the ability to hold management accountable; and by encouraging decision making capability (Hess Cameron, 2006, pp.29 54). These methods are encouraged within job structures while simultaneously providing the necessary resources the employees need to accomplish their assigned tasks. This process of putting people first is effective as long as it is a top down approach. Leadership must show that these values are real by modeling a do as I do attitude instead of do as I say. The Scriptures certainly teach people to put others first (KJV, Matt 7:12, Luke 6:31), and it encourages free thought within biblical parameters. FedEx is similar to the Bible methodology in that it encourages people to help others and build relationships; however, there is one major difference. All of the things that FedEx is attempting to do are things that upper management chose to do. Upper management chose the culture they thought was best and then they have spent the next several years forcing it on the entire organization. They failed to work as a cohesive unit and see what the people. This forced acceptance happens in many organizations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... FedEx should have involved the employees in developing the values of the organization. Scholars call this concept employee engagement, and it is part of strategic management (Marcos Solomon, 2010, p.1 89). How can leaders help develop a culture of putting people ... • 6. Judaism Compare And Contrast The topic I choose to write about is Judaism. Like other religions, there are differences in the religion. I decided to compare and contrast the different types of Judaism. Writers compare and contract in order to understand their similarities and differences ( Vandermey 2012 pg. 182 ). Judaism is a monotheistic religion. Judaismis 3,500 years old, is the oldest of the monotheistic religions. The first attestation of the word Judaism occurs in 2 Maccabees, a Greek abridgment of a history of the Maccabean revolt that was written ca. 124 BCE References Satlow, M. L. (2006). Monotheism is the worship of a single powerful God. The prefix of mono means one. Monotheism usually tends to affirm the expressions such as absolutism which is the acceptance of or belief in absolute principles of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you really dissect each religion you will find that they have more in common than differences. They all promote love for God and mankind. The Jewish tradition stems from Abraham s covenant with God. Jews believe that God made a covenant with Abraham that he would be the father of a great people if he followed God s instructions. The covenant was the promise God made with Abraham that his people would be sacred and give them a holy land. Judaism is a tradition grounded in the religious, ethical, and social laws as they are articulated in the Torah which is the Jewish holy book. There are several different sects in the Jewish religion such as Reformed, Conservative, and Orthodox Jews. The main difference between the belief systems is the approach to Torah and the implications of that approach. It is how a Jewish community interact with Torah that defines them as Conservative Jews ( Grossman 2005 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution, culture is a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides people s ways of life, communicated from one generation (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has seen humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime, cumulate over generations (Henrich McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd Richerdson, 1996). Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used microsocieties to simulate different generations in a population. In such studies, participants are replaced with a naГЇve participant within their groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum, Richerson, Efferson, Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social learning (Tennie, Call, Tomasello, 2009). Social learning theory proposes that individuals can learn in a social context, for example, by observing others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Fog Falling On Cedars Taking Flight I sit in this AP Language and Composition class trying to decipher the essence of the unending annotations and floods of random texts for the past quarter. Little did I know that I would be taking flight and soaring through the smallest details and threads of literary devices and techniques of analyzing language. Before this class, I looked at a book, aware that it was filled with potential symbolism and crucial themes that were definitely worth considering. Yet, I often paid far less attention to the way words are crafted in efforts to create a beautiful masterpiece. Who knew that the jargon used in Snow Falling on Cedars could significantly shape the overall tone of the book? From the years leading up to this class, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Welty describes the first steps of reading as human, but inward...It is to me the voice of the story or poem itself (Welty 11). Picking up from my knowledge of personification, I gained a new perspective on how books play an impact on how one thinks when reading a piece, as it describes the voice of the book as a human. Having said, this gave me the idea that books establish a personal connection between itself and the reader. Following through with the next chapter, Welty recognizes the value of the summer trips she experienced with her family. She makes an interesting analogy between her trips and reading by calling them stories. Not only in form, but in their taking on direction, movement, development, change...each trip made its particular revelation, though I could not have found words for it (68). Connecting this to the title of chapter two, learning to see when reading requires looking closely at the small details and soaking it in, in a way that one can look back upon it later. Once one starts to carefully listen and look at the fluidity and rich ingredients a book has, he/she can find their own voice, which leads into the next chapter. Reading spurs imagination which then allows one to explore their own inner being. Welty best describes her encounter of this by explaining my imagination takes its strength and guides its direction from what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Causes And Effects Of The Indian Ocean Tsunami When people ask me how it felt, I just say imagine being thrown into a washing machine and someone pressing on for 10 15 minutes (Crashing Down: A Tsunami Survivor Tells His Story), says Victor Israelsson, a survivor of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. The Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004 was a massive disaster in size, affects, and casualties. On December 26, 2004 the Indian Ocean erupted into one of the biggest tsunamis in Earth s recorded history. The tsunamiwas caused by a massive 9.0 earthquakethat was located near the coast of Sumatra. The extreme movement of the Earth s tectonic plates displaced water in the Indian Ocean. The energy of the quake was compared to the equivalent of 23,000 Hiroshima type bombs. The energy forcibly shot through the ocean in every direction and displaced the sea floor. The Indian Ocean Tsunami traveled around 300,000 miles to Africa, but still carried the momentum to kill people and destroy property. Scientists concluded that the tsunami height was between 9m high along the entire stretch of the coast, the average tsunami height is 3m (10 ft). The Indian Ocean Tsunami caused waves three times bigger than the average tsunami, the Indian Ocean Tsunami was the third largest tsunami in the 2000 s. An inverse method is developed to optimize the seafloor displacement on the fault plane based on the measurements of satellite Jason 1. How did companies such as Coke, Pepsi, McDonald s, Burger King and Disney respond to the brand crisis? And when the brands crashed, these companies didn t even notice they were branded to the bone. They always understood that they were selling brands before product. They had their eyes fixed on global expansion. 18. How did The Body Shop and Starbucks foster powerful brand identities? What the success of both the Body Shop and Starbucks showed was how far the branding project had come in moving beyond splashing one s logo on a billboard. Here were two companies that had fostered powerful identities by making their brand concept into a virus and sending it out into the culture via a variety of channels: cultural sponsorship, political controversy, the consumer experience and brand extensions. 19. • 12. Descriptive Essay On The Fire Footsteps Many years ago, on August 15th, 1733, a small, unnamed town was nearly submerged in scorching hot flames. A man named Louis James Tacha was one of the civilians that was killed by the fire. Louis tried to help other people who have been swept away by the fire near the swinging bridge. The sleeve of his white, long shirt sparked with a flame which engulfed the rest of his body within seconds. He frantically tried to escape the snare of the fire, but his attempts failed. He decided to jump into a rocky, fast moving river as his last attempt to survive. Louis James Tacha s body was never found. Some say his spirit still lurks around the swinging bridge to make others disappear into the river to symbolize how quickly someone can be forgotten. The few survivors of the fire gave the name, Burnside, to the town to remember the event that took place on that cool summer night. Today, August 12th, 1983, is a big day for thirteen year old, Marcie Goupil, as she goes to an all girls summer camp in Burnside, Tennessee, for her first time. Marcie is aroused with excitement as she places her last few shirts into her over filled duffle bag. As Marcie and her dad pull up to the camp, she sees large, dull looking trees with pointy branches, and leaves that started to change colors, just barely covering a sign that reads, Camp Rio. All around her, counselors and campers radiate with joy. No one seems to be vexed that sky is dim from clouds hovering over the earth. It was now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Communication Is A Cornerstone Of Building A Strong... Introduction Communication is a cornerstone of building a strong relationship (Robinson, 2012). Numerous studies show that marriages that do not have an effective communication between partners easily end up in divorces. Researchers have identified the habits that people have that hinder effective communication in marriages (Kusi Kusi, 2015). These habits are: avoiding the expression of honest feelings and opinions about issues; failing to listen to a partner and being quick to react to the partner s comments on issues; being subjective in a dialogue; failing to allow a partner adequate time to respond to one s questions; and using negative impolite language that seem to order a partner rather than request a partner (Kusi Kusi, 2015). These habits and much hinder effective communication in marriages, which often lead to divorces. Topic Problem Many people believe that infidelity is the major cause of divorces in relationships. However, this is not the case. The main cause of failure in a relationship is the lack of proper communication. Infidelity, trust issues, different expectations, addictions, responsibilities, money issues, narcissism, and different priorities are simply the underlying factors that cause a deterioration in communication among couples (Wright, 2000). Consequently, poor communication, which is triggered by the underlying factors, is the basic cause of break ups (Chapman, 2013). This research aims to affirm that poor communication is the major cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Neuroplasticity and Justice Justice is often thought of in nebulous terms. As such, it is often viewed through a philosophical lens. Indeed, justice has been examined by prominent philosophers such as John Rawls and Friedrich Hayek. Often regarded as a soft science, the idea of justice finds itself the subject of a theoretical framework rather than of scientific study. Despite this theoretical view, much of the theory surrounding justice seeks to determine the causes for a given type of behavior. These theories discuss which penological methods work to correct these behaviors. However, the theory that one can modify his or her brain in order to create new behaviors exists within the scientific biological/psychological realm. By contrast, there are those... This is concurrent with the logical, conscious reasoning of the C system that overrides the X system s prototypes in order to closely analyze a new situation and adapt accordingly. Thus, fairness (justice) is an extension of cognitive behavioral regulation. Akin to the sense of reparation that Jackman (2012) discusses when one applies the concept of restorative justice, the concept of neuroplasticity also seeks a sense of reparation, albeit in a more literal way. Consistent with the idea of learning and the brain s interaction with the environment, neuroplasticity is the idea that the human brain can change and grow, that it can modify itself to compensate for weak spots and expand limits (Cockrell, 2007). For example, it was once thought that neuron production slows down exponentially in adulthood, but research reveals that this is not the case. Research has found that the brains of aging cancer patients were still able to produce new neurons (Cockrell, 2007). The human brain is an extremely complex organ. Inside the average human brain, there are 200 billion neurons. These neurons allow for trillions of connections (Arrowsmith, 2013). Arrowsmith (2013) discussed Mark Rosenshwag, a neuroscientist who conducted an experiment with rats. Rosenswag placed the rats in a stimulating environment and found that rats were better learners because of the stimulation. More importantly, he noted that the brains of the rats being studied changed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the past, one significant development in com puter processor technology was the RISC microprocessor. However, RISC processors were initially favored for scientific purposes because these applications required a less large instruction set than general purpose computers. Mandarin is the languages spoken and written by the han Chinese who constitute more than 90% of the country s populations (Language and Dialects). So, it is reasonable that many people have a more limited knowledge on this particular subject. However, the history of the languages of Chinais one of great significance extending far beyond just Mandarin. There is a great history that accompanies the languages in China. When discussing the languages in China one has to keep in mind that it is not just the spoken languages at play here. Learning Disabled Students With Learning Disabilities Essay A learning disabled student not only suffers from being below average in academics, but in many cases these students suffer with mental illnesses. Students with learning disabilities have lower self determination in academics and struggle in post secondary education (Jameson, 2007). Higher levels of anxiety and test taking anxiety can additionally be found in students with learning disabilities (Nelson, Lindstrom, Foels, 2015). Studies also show that students with learning disabilities have a higher rate of depression (Ashraf, Najam, 2015). Why are learning disabled individuals struggling with self worth? The extreme social pressures everyone faces daily has a negative affect students with learning disabilities. Students with learning disabilities are self conscious of their impairment. Schools should not only focus on giving extra academic assistances to students with learning disabilities, but also give resources to help fight mental illness in these students. Students who have learning disabilities should not suffer from low self determination, anxiety, and depression. There will be discussion on why these students suffer at a higher rate from mental illness, and discuss a solution to this issue.Social pressure is a feeling that every human being has experienced. In the past, stimulation of the nerve was used to treat epilepsy and depression. In 1998, a neurosurgeon by the name of Kevin Tracy at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research found that the stimulation of the vagus nerve in rats greatly reduced the production of TNF a which is a protein that helps the process of inflammation. Basically, when this nerve is stimulated, it releases increased noradrenaline in the spleen to immune T cells. In turn, the T cells release more acetylcholine to the macrophages. Last, these macrophage release less of the pro inflammatory TNF a. The way they look, their tendencies, purposes, and other characteristics of vampires, appear to differ based on the time period in which the vampirefolklore originated or what culture it derived from. Originating its characteristics in folklore where is it often seen as grotesque, the vampire in modern day is seen to be more attractive, sexual, and, in some ways, not as fearful. Various types of literature containing these monsters have been the spotlight and main influence of how the world views them today. In Bram Stoker s Dracula, the literature takes a turn for the vampire that lets the world view it as more of civil being. Often people in today s society due to this novel think of fangs, a pointy nose, wearing a cape, and one not having a reflection when thinking of a vampire. Throughout this book Stoker represents the uneasiness of society at the time, including capitalist greed, homosexuality, as well as female sexuality. In the beginning of the novel, Johnathon Harker arrives at the castle of The Count and when first introduced he is in confusion of who he is actually meeting. In the line, What manner of man is this, or what manner of creature is it in the semblance of man? (Stoker chp.3,p.48), Stoker is essentially representing the fear of humanity s animal nature and not having that sense of control over them. The Count describes himself as a hunter of sorts and with that comes the thirst for blood. With vampires today, the main thing people think of is most likely how they replenish themselves with blood, as sometimes especially within folklore this was not always a characteristic of the monster. Throughout the novel there are multiple instances in which The Count as well as the women vampires are tempted to snag a bite of Harker s neck. (FIND QUOTE). Stoker s Dracula also expresses the fear of female sexuality in a way that past folklores did not. As the foundation of scientific knowledge approached the start of the twentieth century, problems began to arise over the fact that classic physical ideas were not capable of explaining the observed behavior of subatomic particles. In 1913, the Danish physicist Neils Bohr, proposed a successful quantum model of the atom that began the process of a more defined understanding of its subatomic particles. It was accepted in the early part of the twentieth century that light traveled as both waves and particles. The reason light appears to act as a wave and particle is because we are noticing the ... We have the illusion that position and momentum can co exist in large objects whose inherent action is huge compared to subatomic particles. Heisenberg realized that the uncertainty relations had profound implications. Heisenberg set himself to the task of finding the new quantum mechanics to explain what his theories observed. He relied on what can be observed, namely the light emitted and absorbed by the atoms. By July 1925, Heisenberg wrote his answer in a paper. The basic idea of Heisenberg s paper was to get rid of the orbits in atoms and to arrive at new mechanical equations. Heisenberg s approached focused mainly on the particle nature of electrons. The mathematics Heisenberg used were tables commonly used for multiplication of arrays of numbers mathematical objects known as matrices. Using the mathematics of matrices, scientists had at last a new mechanics for calculating the quantum behavior of particles. Heisenberg, and others showed that the new quantum mechanics could account for many of the properties of atoms and atomic events. Most physicists were slow to accept matrix mechanics because of its abstract nature. Erwin Schrodinger came up with a mathematical equation which nicely described the wave nature of electrons. Where and why are people concentrated in GTA? Most people tend to live in cities rather than sub urban areas due to amenities, job opportunities, infrastructure and educational facilities. Also, immigrants are the major reason why the population overcrowded in cities. According to the Government of Ontario, over the past 20 years, the target range of immigrants has been increased gradually. For example, the target range of immigrants was 280,000 to 320,000 in 2017 and 260,000 to 285,000 in 2016. These numbers are about 0.75 per cent of total population in Canada each year. Corporate Competition, Monopoly, And Monopoly A firm, an organization which employs resources in order to provide a product or service at a profit, can be grouped into one of four distinct market structures: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Each market structure has its own unique characteristics. Once a firm is classified, one is able to understand how price and output are determined by a firm. Beval Saddlery, a firm established in May 1955 by Bev Walter, grew from a shop in a one car garage to a renowned organization in the equestrian world. Through analysis of the number of firms in the saddlery industry, the types of products produced by the firms, the ease of entry into the industry, and the control the individual firms have over the sale price of products, the industry in which Beval Saddlery operates can be categorized as a monopolistic competition. To begin with, a monopolistic competition is one of the four major market models. A monopolistic competition is an industry made up of many producers. The Mongol invasions consisted of deadly battles and strategies used to conquer most of Asia between 1200 1300 CE. Finally, it wasn t until the death of Khan that the empire really took a turn and began expanding at an exponential rate. The Great Khan position was passed through family members that contributed to the growth of the empire in Eurasia. Genghis Khan grew up in poverty. During these adolescent years, TemГјjin mastered the art of personal courage in battle learning how to deal with people and building trust with his loyal allies to get what he wanted. In contrast, he also learned that to improve one s position one must be willing to betray allies. Genghis Khan grew up Tengrist, a central Asian religion that consisted of both polytheism and monotheism, but he was curious and open to learning about other religions. • 53. The Future For Trade Unions 1.The future for trade unions Trade unions have played a crucial role in developing a democratic society in terms of monitoring and enforcement in the areas of wages and employment conditions. (Landau et al 2014, ????) It has been argued that the Industrial Commission gave Australia both political and competitive advantage and provided both members and non members, significant workplace gains throughout most of the 20th century. (Ref) Whilst not formally united with the Australian Labour Party (ALP), the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has sustained close association with it. The ACTU has played a critical role in Australian politics. Bob Hawke was president of the ACTU from 1970 to 1980, and went on to become labour prime minister from 1983 to 1991. The establishment of Australia s Industrial Relations Reform Act in 1993, which was intended to streamline the collective bargaining process, largely resulted in a decline in ACTU membership. (Ref) In 2006, the Howard governments WorkChoices laws came in to effect. Employees saw this as opportunity to remove unfair dismissal protection, while reducing employee entitlement, removing the independent industrial arbitrator and ultimately weakening trade union muscle. (Wilson Spies Butcher 2011) In 2006 07, a critical movement came with the ACTU s Your rights at work campaign. The campaigns objective was to build enough opposition to WorkChoices in order to defeat the government during the 2007 election. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Usage Of Proper English 1.) I think it is important to strive for both the usage of proper English and to present good ideas as a criteria for academic papers or in an academic setting. The reason I am convinced that usage of proper English creates clearer communication is because of my experience in the business world. Through schooling I have learned how to speak and write better and use words that pertain to the business I practiced. I have worked in the teaching profession and have experienced what happens when a parent does not have a clear idea of the educational goals the teach and school has for their child, or the overall goals that the particular school holds as valuable. I taught in a Montessori School and Montessori has a particular educational model that each school follows to a certain degree. It is the owner s prerogative to determine how closely they follow the Montessori Method. Therefore, as a parent there are several things to be concerned with. 1.) What model did Maria Montessori use? 2.) To what degree does the school follow the Montessori Method. 3.) Do I understand and agree with the educational process 4.) What are the goals the Montessori teacher is setting for my child? Therefore, clear communication is essential in business. .As stated in the article by Exforsys. Why Speaking Proper English is Important for Your Career. June.6,2007 A number of studies have consistently demonstrated that those who have an advanced knowledge of the English language are much more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. A Saintlike Power In Saint Marie By Louise Erdrich A Saintlike Power There are different kinds of power. There is, of course, the power over another person. A power in superiority, in dominance that makes people afraid. There s power in acceptance too. Any person who has been welcomed by their peers has more power than one that has not. In my own life, I struggle with power, and what kind of power I should want. My need for power likely stems from a fundamental desire to fit in. Some days the power I crave is simply in acceptance. Acceptance from peers, friends, or family. On other, less agreeable days, the power I desire is in superiority, dominance, the power to make people listen to what you have to say. In the short story Saint Marie by Louise Erdrich, Marie, like me, seeks power. However, the power she craves is in relation to God and the convent she has been raised to look up to. At the convent, Marie struggles between wanting acceptance from the Sisters and desiring superiority over them, especially Leopolda. The first, acceptance, Marie mentions before joining the convent: I was going up there to pray as good as they could (1). Marie strives to be as good: as holy as the Sisters. Once she joins the convent, she hopes to be accepted by them. Superiority, the second kind of power, she uses as a threat to Leopolda. Marie threatened that she would get to heaven first, and when Leopolda arrived, she would shut the gate (5). Here, she strives for superiority over Leopolda by blocking her out of heaven rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Nonsense Is Defined by Its Inability to be Defined Lewis... The definition of nonsense has been debated throughout literature. Yet nonsense itself cannot be defined, but rather it is defined by its inability to be defined. It s the destruction or defiance of the norm that often leads to creation of nonsense. The language of nonsense itself is closely intertwined with various techniques of style, structuralization and various motifs. Authors such as Lewis Caroll in Alice and Wonderland and Edward Lear s The Complete Nonsense of Edward Lear use such techniques to invoke the language of nonsense as well as to create nonsense within their writing. Both Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear use the language of nonsense is also defined by paradoxes, the play on stereotypes, and the usage of polysemy. Lewis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In such a structure, Lear creates a paradox in that he uses various stereotypes of each individual that he chooses and breaks and defies that stereotype. In the creation of such limericks, Lear is specific in choosing adjectives; he uses places such as Portugal , Madras , etc. In such places there is an assumption of a stereotype of the individuals from those places, yet instead of creating that stereotype he creates nonsensical actions for those individuals. Both Carroll and Lear use polysemy throughout their nonsense. Polysemy can be defined as words or phrases having multiple meanings. Carroll uses polysemy in the fact that the creatures often take specific words for face value. For instance, the word mad has multiple meanings, it can either mean angry or crazed. Carroll is very careful to create the mad hatter and the as mad as a March hare as the same individual (Carroll). Yet it is in this matter that also fuels the nonsensical element has the mad hatter becomes a paradox. Lear uses polysemy as well throughout his limericks. For instance, There was an Old Person of Leeds/Whose head was infested with beads... (Lear, 12). The word beads could refer to the things that jewelry is made of or a reference to ones sanity (i.e. often called marbles in today s society). Such a play on words allow for the ...
