The Secret To Motivate An Unmotivated Dog
If a dog has just been adopted, they can feel scared. They don t know where they are are what their
surroundings consist of. So, getting the dog to cooperate a little bit should be the first thing you do.
Try to figure out ways to get them excited and playful. Explore activities that encourage strong
bonds and build trust. (Marie, Rachel: The Secret To Motivating An Unmotivated Dog) Spend time
discovering new place and new experiences with your dog. ( Marie, Rachel: The Secret To
Motivating An Unmotivated Dog). Even giving the dog your approval of something can motivate
them. Because it lets them know that they are able to do what they would like to without getting in
trouble first. Giving a dog food isn t always the answer.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dog would be fearful that they would get yelled at, grabbed, shaken, or even smacked. Times
since then have definitely changed and now, we use toys, treats, etc. Before, we motivated our
dogs to avoid being bad. ( Pippa:How To Motivate Your Dog) We now use motivators that the dogs
want, rather than what they are afraid of. Respect (although sounds like it would be a good
motivator) is really only a show of fear from dog to owner. The dog is afraid that they will get
yelled at for correction or there will be some kind of disapproval. Respect from the dog is a
powerful tool, it s just not a very useful/sufficient tool.
However, some of the most powerful working motivators include food no surprise there but that
is what dogs love most. Long ago, dogs used to have to hunt in order to get their food. Since they
have evolved from wolves, that behavior is still in them, so really a dog will do anything to get
the food you offer them. Controlling the motivation tool, though, is useful for the owner when
trying to train the dog. It helps with behavior and it gives you a clue on what they ll act like when
they re older. Since a treat is the ultimate motivator, it keeps the dog in check. So

Yorktown Case Analysis Essays
Running Head: YORKTOWN TECHNOLOGIES CASE ANALYSIS
Yorktown Technologies Case Analysis
Case Recap
Founded in 2001, Yorktown Technologies, Inc. is a company that specializes in the ornamental fish
industry. The globalization of the ornamental fish industry happened over a half a century ago.
Hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish can be purchased as pets in virtually any industrialized
nation in the world (Broy, 2011). Yorktown Technologies commercializes a genetically modified
fish called GloFish, which appear to glow in the dark (Mueller, 2010). GloFish are zebrafish that
have been genetically modified with fluorescent colors. They are the first genetically modified
animals to become publicly available as pets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fish are not available in California due to state regulations that ban biotech aquatic organisms
(GloFish, 2011). In addition, Singapore where the fish was originally engineered has been reluctant
to approve its sale (Ely, 2004). This places an additional limit on potential marketing and
distribution strategies.
Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically
modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. They will be available in three
colors: red, green, and orange (GloFish, 2011).
Yorktown Technologies has an exclusive product and market niche. The company has a substantial
number of patents and patent pending applications for GloFish (GloFish, 2011). In addition, the
production, market, and distribution of fluorescent fish are strictly prohibited without the approval
of Yorktown Technologies (GloFish, 2011). This gives the company a monopoly on fluorescent fish
and makes it impossible for other companies to produce, market, and distribute them.
Identifying the Root Problem Components
Yorktown Technologies have several issues that may affect marketing and distribution. The issues
are geographical distribution, production, supply and demand, environmental concerns, and retail
outlets.
First, GloFish are not approved for distribution and sale in California. California is an

The Song Walk This Way `` By The Rock Band Aerosmith And...
During the 1970s, Rock and Roll dominated the music culture and charts with some of the best hits
from bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and others, while at the same time early Hip Hop
were starting up with artists such as Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash. The genre stayed an
underground phenomenon throughout the 1970s and fairly unpopular with the white audience of
Rock and Roll, which held back its appearance in mainstream music until the mid 1980s. In this
paper, I compare the differences in the arrangements of the song Walk This Way by the rock band
Aerosmithand a cover done by the Hip Hop group Run D.M.C, and explore the music culture of
the 1970s and 1980s which influence the original song and its cover version. I argue that Run
DMC s progressive crossover cover of Walk This Way by Aerosmith took down the wall
separating Rock and Roll and Hip Hop, legitimizing the genre s acceptability and propelling it
into popular mainstream music. The 1970s, also known as the Me Decade , was a time of
diversifying music. The Beatles had broken up, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin had died from
drug overdose, Led Zeppelin was Britain s most popular group, The Rolling Stones weren t
active, and rock roll was branching out into various popular subgenres such as: Country Rock,
Glam Rock, Progressive Rock, Punk Rock, Soft Rock, and Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. Hard rock
and Heavy Metal were interchangeable terms during the time because of their similarity; consisting

Famine Affluence And Morality Peter Singer Summary
In Peter Singer s article, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, he proposes the question: What are the
moral implications of a situation like the one in Bengal (230)? In order to answer this question
Singer presents at least two arguments which involve what one ought to do and the moral
consequences of not acting or pursuing our moralobligations. His first and central conclusion is
that we ought to behave in such a way as to decrease suffering and death as a result of lack of
food, shelter and medical care. Assuming that the aforementioned events are bad Peter singer
argues that we are morally obligated to help relieve great suffering of the sort that occurs as a
result of famine or other disasters as long as we can without sacrificing something else of
comparable moral importance (238). In fact, he goes so far as to present an additional conclusion
that not acting or pursuing our moral obligation to help is unjustifiable and wrong and we must
then change our moral schema about the obligations we have to others.
In order to evaluate the validity of this argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this I think he strengthens his argument. He not only provides the reader with insight into
his moral character but also engages the reader in what he thinks we ought to do for the goodness
of all less fortunate. The appeal to ethos is exemplified, too, in his acknowledgement of
counterarguments. As far as I can tell, he does not resort to any type of logical fallacy (i.e. ad
hominem, appeals to authority, straw man, etc.) which would discredit the opposing side. Instead,
he presents arguments against his claim and acknowledges them professionally and provides
pragmatic solutions. The way he deals with those in opposition illustrates something important
about the author s character and background that seems to be pleasantly welcomed by the

What Is The Corgers Of Marriott International And Starwood...
Hotel owners and Franchises:
Marriott International and Starwood Hotels and Resorts both have different unique selling points
enabling them to become large hotel companies. With the merger, both companies will combine
their unique qualities to encourage efficiency as well as new hotel developments. These
improvements may be able to increase profitability enabling owners to have increase in their
revenue (Bethesda, 2016). Due to the large increase in customer base and owning multiple
properties all over the world, competition certainly has reduced as a result. Thus, this may lead to
monopolization of certain hotel markets increasing profits for existing hotel owners and franchises
(Butler, 2016). In addition, as both companies already have their own wide company portfolio and
brands, in the long term Marriott International and Starwood Hotels and Resort can take advantage
of the opportunity to explore variety of brands within the expansion of their brand families. The
exponential increase in their market power and data access may lead to increase in their economies
of scale, further increasing their profitability. In addition, the increase market power means the
companies will have stronger bargaining power against OTAs, resulting in lower booking fees.
Therefore, the reduction in their cost and increasing their appearance on the OTAs being more
exposed to potential customers which may further increase their profitability as well as marketing
power (Butler, 2016).

A common phrase that is heard whilst growing up is curiosity killed the cat . This phrase might
be true but; ingenuity brought the cat back . Having a mindset in which giving up is never an
option has plagued most inventors of the modern day, especially a high school drop out named
Nikolaus August Otto, born in 1832. Otto was responsible for the development and improvement
of the 4 stroke motor that is used today in just about every automobile on the road. Many people
drive cars but fail to realize how they work, and don t try to learn about engines because they think

All of this pressure against the piston forces it down in the cylinder. The power impulse is
transmitted down through the piston, through the piston rod (connecting rod), and to the crankshaft.
The crankshaft is rotated due to the force.
В•As the piston reaches the bottom of its travel, the exhaust valve opens. Now, as the piston moves
up on the exhaust stroke, it forces the burned gases out of the cylinder through the exhaust port.
When the piston reaches the top of its travel, the exhaust valve closes, and the intake valve opens.
The cycle repeats again with the intake stroke. The four strokes are continuously repeated during
the operation of the engine

Marginal Utility Vs. Utility Theory
Fifty years after Jeremy Bentham s initial defention of utility, the German economist Hermann
Heinrich Gossen introduced the term marginal utility and the law of diminishing marginal utility.
The term marginal utility is defined as the pleasure or pain from an additional unit or dose of a
good. The introduction of marginal utilityto economic thought and vocabulary was revolutionary,
reducing the need to measure total pleasure or pain because Even if marginal utilities were
measured on a cardinal scale, they would tell us nothing about how much total utility there was
(even if it was maximized) because they are still only measured up to an additive constant. An
additional benefit of marginal utilitywas the introduction of the principle of marginal utility theory,
which Gossen explained as, Man maximizes his total life pleasure if he distributes his entire money
income ... among the various enjoyments ... so that the last atom of money spent on each single
pleasure yields the same amount of pleasure. Marginal utility was considered easier to measure than
utility as a whole, although still very difficult to define. At the same time, Gossen was also
introducing the law of diminishing marginal utility, which was one of the most important steps in
developing the economic theory around utility. At the time that Gossen introduced the law of
diminishing marginal returns, there an equivalent law, called Turgot s law, had already been
developed for the producer s side of

Often in literature authors try to explain the concept of identity. Most of these authors have stated
that Identity is the life that we live, the source of our pride, and dignity. These authors are correct,
as pride and dignity, is the only thing many people live for. Even William Shakespeare, had the

Laetita s mother thinks that the mountains are closer on the reserve in blackfoot , but contradicting
her mother Laetita states that the mountains are close in salt lake city as well in English. The two
different meanings are the obvious reason that Laetita wants to walk away from her mother, her
tradition and heritage, creating the atmosphere of a bird leaving the nest, and how Laetita s
generation wants to assimilate with the western society, and not stand proud for their identity and
heritage. This becomes a major factor, as Laetita sees her mother on the news, and wants to come
back to the reserve, symbolising Laetita s realisation for pride. King also emphasizes this idea
through Laetita stating her response in English, as English is the cultural norm, for all societies,
and cultures, while Laetita s mother states her question in blackfoot . The mother is unhappy that
her own daughter is turning on her heritage, which the mother holds in high regard. The protagonist

Havisham by Carol Ann Duffy Essay
In Havisham, Carol Ann Duffy creates an interesting character. Write about the way the character is
created, and compare this with the way other characters are created in three other poems. You
should compare it with one poem by Simon Armitage and two poems from the pre 1912 poetry
bank.
In Havisham, Carol Ann Duffy explores the character of Mrs Havisham and develops her by using
vivid imagery and metaphors. She starts the poem with Beloved sweetheart bastard which is an
oxymoron, used to display her mixed emotions about love and the man who jilted her. The plosive

Havisham and The Laboratory link not only because of their sinister characters but because both
poems have a strong use of colours. In Havisham colours are used to create a contrast between a
white veil which is the colour of virginity and purity, and a red balloon which can be the colour
of love and sex but also for anger, hatred and embarrassment. Duffy uses this as a way to explore
all the feelings and emotions of the character and could be interpreted as Duffy trying to make the
audience have sympathy for Mrs Havisham. The Laboratory uses colours to create a superficial
character who doesn t see the poison as dangerous or deadly, but as some sort of treasure. She
refers to gold oozings and the exquisite blue as if to think of them as magical potions and not
poisons. This is done to create an almost naivety to her character and suggests that she doesn t
understand how dangerous her actions are. The Laboratory is set out in rhyming couplets to create
a playful rhythm to show the character s childish behaviour, and how she may not be fully aware of
her dangerous her actions are. As the poem starts, the speaker mentions only one woman who she
wishes to poison. Yet as the poem continues, she mentions other women who

interpretation of what is considered art in the modern and contemporary periods, the Armani

Recently, in a telephone conversation with the current owner of Valley Motors, Greg Voeltz, on
February 7, 2008, he contends Valley Motors current location is surrounded by affluent
communities like Old Cherry Hills, Cherry Hills Village, Columbine Country Club, Greenwood
Village, The Preserve and Polo Reserve to name a few. He explains that Valley Motors is the only
independent Mercedes Benz dealership in the south metro area. To move further south, with an
emphasis
Fisher 2 on Highlands Ranch, is perceived as detrimental at this time for the reasons above.
Additionally, south Broadway is perceived by many metro residents as the place to go for high
end automobiles in the south metro area, according to Voeltz. He admits that Valley Motors is at
the northerly end of those dealerships. However, Valley Motors current location has not, to his
knowledge, been perceived as being either too far north or not southerly enough. The Ralph
Schomp BMW dealership is moving further south due to lack of space; however, they will
continue to maintain their existing location on Broadway for their Honda line. In spite of their
move, there continues to be high end dealerships in the immediate area to Valley Motors like Kuni
Lexus, Stevinson Jaguar and Mercedes Benz of Littleton. It is easy to get lost in the crowded

Human Life In Thornton Wilder s Play Our Town
Thornton Wilder s play, Our Town, outlines the lives of two families realistically from 1901 to
1913. Multiple themes are presented through the lives of these families in three separate acts:
Daily Life , Love and Marriage , and Death and Eternity . Although each act entails different
commonly faced problems and themes, the play does not lack a central, universal theme. Each
act contributes to a main theme about human life that, even after 81 years, is still relevant to
society today. The main theme of the play, Our Town, is that human life is repetitive and
temporary. The repetition of daily life can mainly be found in Acts I and II, where the Gibbes,
Webbs, and other characters continually do the same thing everyday. The first act, Daily Life ,
begins with Howie Newsome, deliverin the milk (Wilder 10) to the Webb and Gibbs families.
Similarly to Act I, the second act, Love and Marriage , starts with Howie Newsome delivering the
milk (49). The beginnings of the acts presents little change between the mornings of three years.
Therefore, Wilder has symbolized repetition in a human s life through the characters in Our Town....

temperance of life until it is gone. The theme of human life being temporary is also shown in Acts
I and II. Both acts begin similarly and show the repetitive nature of human life but also show life
being temporary. For example, the beginning act starts with the paper boy, Joe Crowell, Jr.,
delivering the newspaper, but in the second act Joe is replaced with Si Crowell. Further proving

Cleaning Products And Its Effects On Our Environment
There are concerns over the cleaning products we use in our homes, many of these products we use
contain harsh chemicals that can damage, ultimately in addition hurt our environment. Fortunately
there are many companies that are taking note of this, specially taking the concerns from people in
our communities to create products that are more earth friendly . Another topic that should be
included when writing about sustainable cleaning productsis biodegradability in the materials we
use, as well as the packaging. This is important as not only harsh chemicals harm our environment
with their toxic waste, in addition to we also end up producing pollutionas a result of using
packaging that is not biodegradable.
We all use cleaning products in our home, many that contain harsh chemicals that flow into our
oceans. There are several companies that make green products for our home many of which will
claim to be non toxic; some of these companies are, NatureClean, Ecover, Earth Friendly, Method,
Mrs. Meyers, and Seventh Generation. Most of these products are biodegradable, provided with
the fact that they are made with natural ingredients. As well as being recyclable after using the
product, adding also that they are free from chemicals such as chlorine, bleach, as well as ammonia.
These companies are helping make a change not only in our homes also in our environment. In

Clear And Concise Outline Of Tarantino s Pulp Fiction
In order to establish a clear and concise outline of Tarantino s work in relation to the
consideration of film being represented as high art, we need to begin with one of his earlier and
more distinguished works, Pulp Fiction. Pulp Fiction is not for the faint of heart and its allure boils
down to a matter of personal preference and judgement, but its magnitude as a filmis a matter of
history. One of the main reasons Pulp Fiction has found so much success and praise in the art
community is that Tarantino ushered in a new era of post modernism in the film industry. Basically,
what aesthetic Postmodernism states is that what already has been done, has been done before and
there is nothing new . Postmodernism can also be distinguished by the... Show more content on

As we previously stated, Tarantino s dialogue is not simply quirky and original. There is a
systematic process behind his choice of dialogue and sequence of events. This is fully
exemplified in an exchange between Jules and one of the kids in the apartment. And the story
of how Wallace had a man thrown out of a four story window for giving his wife a foot massage.
Tarantino is laying the groundwork with his dialogue for a scene in which Vincent agrees to
take Mia Wallace (wife of Marsellus Wallace) out on a date, on his bosses orders. When Mia
accidentally overdoses, Vincent rushes her to his drug dealer, Lance, who resuscitates her with a
shot of adrenaline injected directly into her heart. We then meet Lance s girlfriend, Jody, who
begins to talk about her piercing fetish. This scene is where you get to witness the subtle instances
of dialogue that Tarantino has put into place for a specific pay off in the scenes to come. Tarantino
never actually shows the needle entering the chest, but instead he pans away to a shot in which
everyone glaring over the body jumps back simultaneously as Mia is brought back to life. And then
Jody explains that it was trippy and we contextualize that she has seen the ultimate

Now remember how in point 1 it was mentioned that the best time to trade is when the market is
at its busiest? Here is why This peak time is when the liquidation is at its highest. This is when
the most exchanges happen, which means more opportunities and good deals. This is also when
the market s volatility (currency s price fluctuations) is at its lowest. So it is easier to make a
profit in short amount of time by making a spot trade when the currency s price is good. On the
other hand, when the liquidity is at its lowest, the trades become very slow and the fluctuations
of prices happen slowly. It is also important to mention that the price changes are drastic. Hence,
it is very easy to lose money during this time. 3. Leverage In layman s terms, this feature allows
the trader to trade more money than the amount present in trader s account. This gives the trader
a chance at getting hands on huge profits by investing a small amount. In most cases, the trader
gets to choose their own leverage. Leverage is a ratio. Let s say that you have $500 to invest in
your account and that you are entering into a trade with a leverage ratio of 50:1. This means
that for every $1 you can trade for up to $50. Now for as little as $500, leverage gives you the
power to trade up to $25000. 4. Low Capital This feature is what makes Forex attractive to so
many working class individuals. It allows you to start trading with as little as $100 in the account. 5.

The Changing Role Of Prisons In The 18th Century
Between the late 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, crime was generally perceived
as a rising lower class problem which required brutal suppression. For this reason, the criminal
justice, particularly in the latter part of the 17th century, became more punitive and coercive:
corporal punishments such as flogging, mutilation and execution were increasingly used as
predominant sanctions (Braithwaite, 1993). These forms of punishments often took place in public,
as the main objective at the time was to put offenders into highly stigmatic shame through brutal
humiliation, degradation and out casting (Beattie, 1984). Prisons at the time were typically
characterised by no segregation of men from women, no classification of offenders, and no
segregation of tried and untried offenders (Muncie and McLaughlin). In the late 18th century, as
recorded by John Howard (penal reformer), the regimes implemented in prisons were such that
offenders were living in appalling conditions: indeed, Howard reported that prisons were poorly
ventilated and illuminated, and they were mostly characterised by lack of sanitation, washing
facilities and cleanliness. Nevertheless, throughout the 18th century, influential personalities such as

This combination of models results in a disorganized system that increases costs and fails to
maintain human health. By looking at international examples, one can find numerous areas in
which the American system (or systems) fails in comparison to universal systems. Across our
northern border we find a neighbor with universal health care as well as better access to care. Seven
percent of Americans and less than 1% of Canadians were prevented from care because of
financial reasons. U.S. residents are a third less likely to have a regular physician, a fourth more
likely to not meet medical needs, and twice as likely to forgo needed medicine. Across the board,
uninsured Americans have less access to care as well as less satisfaction regarding their care
(Himmelstein, Lasser, and Woolhandler 1303). In comparison to our northern neighbor, who has
similar culture and values, we can see a universal health care system would drastically improve
our access to care. Even if a comparison isn t enough, one can see the impacts of universal health
care in Taiwan, where a National Health Insurance model was recently implemented. Over the
implementation of the system, hospital admission rates increased from 110 admissions per 1,000

Block Booking System, Admission Price Discrimination, And...
The Code established trade practices consisting of the block booking system, admission price
discrimination, and the formation of clearance and zoning boards. Block booking was a practice
in which motion picture companies would sell their movies in blocks in a package deal to the
exhibitors. Even though exhibitors were given information about the films they were licensing like
who starred in it, what it was about, etc. the films were licensed without viewing the movie at the
time of contracting (Klein, 2000, p. 431), which meant that the movie studios could even profit off
of bad productions as these blocks were sold as a bulk all or nothing deal. This meant that if the

The only viable way to make profits was to rely on the novelty of an early run of a new release
to attract audiences. The problem with such a reliance was that runs in theaters were regulated
by the Clearance and Zoning boards, which were set up as another practice under the Code in an
attempt to organize distribution of films in the nation. It arranged theaters in different regions on
the marketing pattern of zoning, clearance and run. The country was divided into thirty markets,
compartmentalized into zones, and classified by runs that would range from fourteen days to
forty two days or more with a potential of running for more than a year in large markets
(Schuchman, Balio, 1994). This practice gave the Board, which was dominated by the Big 5, the
power to control which movie would play when and where. This was specifically important as
movies that were already viewed by the potential audience, would not draw in the same patronage
as it would in the first run. Consequently whoever got the right to show the movie first would
stand to make the most profit. It was very obvious that this would be a potential source of
discrimination against independent exhibitors as the Big 5 would favor their own exhibition
houses over that of independent exhibitors. With all three practices, it was clear that the intention
was to increase profits. Survival of businesses was very precarious as many

are a part of the subculture (Hine 277). Ritch Savin Williams complicates Hine s argument,

part of a subculture. They do this to protect their individuality receiving prejudice because they
accept to wear a label. In the image, the two women that we assume are members of the LGBT
movement because they are married, do not explicitly say that they are. Their messages reflect the
love they have for each other and the love that many same sex couples have as well. However, the

The Wild West Rides Into The Sunset
Have you ever read a text that included items such as a bold cowboy, trusty horse, beautiful
female, or a dark villain in a dry, isolated, and undeveloped setting? If so, it s a great possibility that
you were reading a classic Western. Many readers of this genre would describe its stereotypes as
what I listed above. You can almost always find that protagonist cowboy hero, who tends to be a
good looking and sharp character that fights the dirty, rugged, evil villain in an epic climax while
trying to save his gorgeous and innocent lady. The setting is often a flat, unpopulated, and
undeveloped town, surrounded by mountains. The Western genre played a... Show more content on

However, Kolb describes Marshal Jack Potter as a nervous unarmed honeymooner, who rides a
train instead of a horse (98). In the story, Potter is described as wearing a new black suit that
most likely was purchased in San Antonio (23). This gives the reader the idea that the East
influenced the West a great deal, considering a hard nosed, sharp shooting town hero most likely
should not be wearing a new suit that was made in the East. The stereotypical western criminal
is mean, dirty, selfish, and constantly stirring up trouble. In The Bride, your criminal is
Scratchy Wilson. However, as Kolb describes, the difference between Scratchy and most other
Western villains is that Scratchy s main crime seems to be that he can t hold his liquor (98). The
eastern culture is brought up again in the story through Scratchy s clothes. You d expect to
visualize a rough and dirty character whose soul is as dark as his clothes. With Scratchy, you get
a criminal wearing a maroon colored flannel shirt that was made in New York (24). Crane uses
these characters to portray an idea to his reader s that the influence the East has on the West is far
greater than the average person would expect.
Expectations for a women in a Western story are generally perceived to be a beautiful, innocent,

Enter Three Witches Chapter Summary
Enter Three Witches is a gripping retelling of Shakespeare s classic Macbeth. Written by Caroline
Cooney, the novel follows Lady Mary as she experiences the tyranny of Lady Macbeth, and the
struggles of trying to save the lives of anyone she can. Many comparisons can be drawn to the
original, however many differences are prevalent. Although suspenseful and action packed, Enter
Three Witchesstruggles with keeping characters straight and starts off very slow. Cooney takes the
reader on a sporadic point of view hopping adventure throughout the world of Mr. and Mrs.
Macbeth. Following Lady Mary, Seyton, Fleance, and the maids, we get an individual perspective
of the events of Macbeth. It soon becomes very difficult to determine what events are being
referred to, and extremely difficult due to the time frames being covered. The story covers many

novel, the drawn out expositions overshadow the suspense of Enter Three Witches. The novel also
focuses too much on the role the witches play. In the original Macbeth, the battle of ambition

his greed turns him into a mad man. It is shown countless times throughout the original that
ambition trumps prophecy. In Enter Three Witches, the Witch s prophecy is the law of the land.

A Simulation For The Motor Of A Bldc Motor Drive With The...
This paper presents a simulation for the sensorless operation of a BLDC motor drive with the
estimation of initial rotor position at standstill. The system determines the actual rotor position of
the motor at standstill and provides appropriate starting pulses to inverter switches to turn on. Once
the motor starts to rotate, it then directly extracts the back EMF from the motor terminals between
the floating phase and the midpoint of DC link. Inductance variation sensing method is used for
estimating the initial rotor position of the motor followed by a sensorless operation by back EMF
sensing method. The principle behind the rotor position estimation is detection and comparison of
phase voltageand dc link current responses and relating it with stator inductances.
The most advantage is that it requires only three voltage pulse injections of small duration for the
estimation of rotor position. A resolution of 30o can be achieved. The effectiveness of the method
is validated by simulation results in Matlab Simulink platform.
Keywords Brushless DC(BLDC), saturation, rotor position, voltage pulse injection.

Evaluation Of A School Psychologist With The Simi Valley...
I interviewed Dr. Linda Vandaveer, a school psychologist with the Simi Valley Unified School
District, on February 4, 2016. I saw her at Katherine Elementary School, and she also works with
two other schools in the district. I found the interview enjoyable and interesting.
At Katherine Elementary School Dr. Vandaveer has her own portable where she can test students.
Her desk is in one corner and there was a kidney shaped table with a few chairs close by. Other than
a couple filing cabinets the room was fairly sparse and the walls were bare
At student can be referred for special services by a parent, teacher, or principal. A studentstudy team
is then set up to evaluate the child. The team includes the school psychologist, who is the
coordinator of the team, the principal, the child s teacher, the special education teacher, speech
specialist, upper and lower grade teacher representatives, and the parents. The parents can also bring
other people, including a therapist.
The school psychologist then assigns individuals in the student study team to perform certain tests.
The psychologist does four hours of testing broken up over a couple of days, the speech specialist
does around two hours of testing, and the special education teacher spends around three hours
testing the child. The teacher and parents provide information about the child. The information
gathered includes intellectual function, visual motor integrations, behavior rating scales, parent and

Essay about Billy Budd
BILLY BUDD
There are many ways you can argue if the novel Billy Budd was a good novel or a bad one. You
can determine this by looking at such things as plot, character, and the use of language. The book
is about a sailor that has been impressed (the act of forcibly taking sailors and making them serve
in the navy) by the British navy. It is set in the late 1700 s during the French Revolution which
overthrew the anarchy, addressed peoples concerns, and it was mainly a focus on human rights. The
Revolution also influenced the way sailors thought because of the mutinies at Spit head and Nor.
And due to Billy s notable qualities he became the handsome sailor(the natural leader of the crew).

Also it can make it more exciting because you know where they would be on the boat and you
know if a person can be maybe close to falling off the boat. The plot was also interesting because
you know that the people on the boat are far away from land so if anything happens such as a
low supply of food then you know they most likely will not be able to get back to land to
replenish their food supply. It is just mainly interesting because you know that they, for the most
part; are cut off from society, because they have no way of contacting them. They did not have
things like cell phones or anything then so they had to rely on each other.
The novel was not so great due to some of the characters. Mr. Claggart to be more specific. The
role he played was the ships master at arms. But the cruel nature of the man was taken a little to
far. Making you more wonder why he was yelling at some one and at some times making the book
a little more confusing than it should had been. If you have no clue why a character is yelling at
another character you are more confused then anything. And when you did know what he was
yelling at someone for you where still confused because the reason he was yelling at some one was
probably ridiculous, instead of just.
Another reason why the novel was not so

Unappropriate Tv Shows for Children
Unappropriate Television Shows Abstract Children are being influenced by television shows on
a daily basis. Some children are watching inappropriate television shows such as SpongeBob,
Fish Hooks, Family Guy, South Park, Ed, Edd, Eddy, Scooby Doo, Boondocks and etc. These
shows can affect children as they grow up in many ways such as using profanity, violent and
aggressive behavior, poor school performance and watch too much television may cause a slight
obesity. There are many educational television shows that are best for child to watch such as
Barney, Blue s Clue, Dora the Explorer and etc. Parent should also limit the amount of time
children spend watching television. Monkey see, Monkey do Has your child ever said... Show more

How is there such a big impact on them just because of watching television? Television can
affect learning and school performance if it interferes with the time kids need for activities
crucial to healthy mental and physical development. Some shows (SpongeBob) teaches that it is
fine to commit an inappropriate action because there will not be a punishment and kids feel that
if they do the same thing as their favorite character from the program who committed the crime
they will be a hero. Researchers have identified three potential responses to media violence in
children: increase fear, desensitization to real life violence, and increase aggressive behavior. It
may desensitve kids so much they think it is okay and no big deal for somebody to be hit or to
hit someone in the head with a hammer. Kids who view violent acts are more likely to show
aggressive behavior, but also fear that the world is scary and that everyday something bad will
happen. Scary looking things like grotesque monsters especially frighten children aged two to
seven. Telling them that the images aren t real does not help because kids under age eight can t
always tell the difference between fantasy and reality (Television and Children). When watching a
television shows usually every episode has a bad situation or a lot of drama in it so kids will start
to have that mind frame that things will happen to them just like on the show. The American
Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids under

Scandinavian Bronze Man
Although the Scandinavian Bronze Age man was a seaman, the extensive use of navigator
features on the panels is also related to the artists intrinsic curiosity on death. Both the sun cross
and the sun chariot can be seed transporting the people to the sun. This is an extension of the
allusion that when life ended, the individuals were transported to the other world that was far
from the current world. These might also be the initial allusion to the idea that man believed in
life after death. Death is taken to be an even where a man travels to a faraway priest. From other
archeological works, the burial sites for the Scandinavian Bronze Age man have been seen to be
made in a ship s shape. It is highly likely that the extensive representation of ships in the
petroglyphs is also denoting the journey of men who have already died. The earlier section had
already identified the ax as a religious tool rather than an economic activity one. In fact, the religion

For every ship, one side, there is the drummer. A drumming man has been denoted in the panels as
a chief for the ritualistic ceremonies. Most of the ships have on the other hand the sun cross. These
ships, therefore, present the entirety of the three realities that were present for the human being in
a funeral ceremony. The drummer on one side represents the community that is remaining on
earth. This person is depicted as reclining from the ship. While he mourns the death of the
departed people, he acknowledges that he is part of that journey. He will, therefore, rejoin the
departed ones later. Inside the ship are those who are already dead. These are the people who are in

The Environmental Disaster Of The United States Essay
Introduction
Mining affects the lives of millions of Americans every day. Although the United
States has a large amount of coal remaining to be mined and burned, almost three fourths of the
public land in America has been declared off limits for mining. Mountaintop mining is a relatively
new form of surface mining that has steadily gained popularity. The debate as to whether or not this
process is an economic necessity or environmental disaster for Kentuckians is the question.
Undoubtedly, it is an environmental disaster and it should be removed in every state that they are
using it not to mention the health hazards. One report found states, Although dozens of new coal
burning power plants are planned or under construction, the latest coal boom is meeting resistance
from critics who want to shift the U.S. economy toward cleaner fuels. Even if electricity from coal
is cheaper than other sources, they argue, the savings are far outweighed by its environmental and
health impacts (Isabella, 2013).
Personal Impact As a child, during many of my families travels, we went through the Appalachian
Mountains through West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. These places were breathtaking. The
rolling hills and deep green forestry stood with such enchantment. About 25 years later my family

ones of nightmares and utter despair. It was desolate and hollow. Tears rolling down my

Lack of Funding for the Arts
In recent times, the economy has plummeted at a horrific rate. We can see it in our everyday life,
from how much our produce costs to the price we pay for gas. But one thing that we may not see
until it s to late is the damage caused by the funding cuts for the arts programs and education in
America. In addition to impeding American children s educational and moral development, we
revert to a poor cultural quality by lowering our standards of arts educationdue to the poor economic
condition of our nation. Even though this should be one of the more important programs for our
government s Department of Education to devote their time and efforts to, it has been severely
neglected.

A good example of the benefits of a quality musical education is the famous Yo Yo Ma. Starting his

having the means for our children to pursue their musical aspirations is key. Groban s own mother

Informative Essay On Chemotherapy
When one finds out he/she has cancer, that is a hard pill to swallow, if told the cancer is severe
and chemotherapy is needed , it puts mental, physical, and emotional stress on patients and
requires them to make major adjustments in many key areas of their lives. As part of the body s
natural process, cells are constantly replaced through a process of dividing and growing.Once cancer
occurs, cells reproduce in an uncontrolled manner as this happens more and more cells are
produced, and they start to occupy an increasing amount of space until they occupy the space
previously inhabited by useful cells. For this reason chemotherapywas introduced as , apoptosis,
which is the killer of cancer cells. The drugs used in chemotherapy are those whom interfere with a
cancer cell s ability to divide and reproduce.

very hard to rate or measure if one thinks if chemotherapy is possibly curing the cancer , but it is
easier to conduct analysis on if proper care , and patient satisfaction on chemotherapy care in a

Advantages Of Nursing-Care Robots
Introduction The Japanese population is rapidly aging and the number of elderly people will
account for a large part of it. Some care problems will be heavy burden on young people. For
example, it is possible that the young generation has to leave their companies in order to devote
time to their older family member s care. Furthermore, the shortage of young workers leads other
problems such as the decline of business and the pension plan. Elderly people taking care of
elderly people has also become an important issue today. Therefore, Japan has to find alternatives

What Are The Causes Of World Order Conflict
Access to resources is a cause of world order conflicts, however in most cases, world order
conflicts are also driven by other issues such as conflict over land, culture and hegemony. Such
conflicts are also difficult to stop due to factors such as ongoing demand for products by the
developed world and the use of veto power. The conflict in Darfur, Sudan is an example of a
world order conflict driven by access to resources, namely water, but is also caused by increasing
demographic pressure and political marginalisation. The conflict over access to water in Sudan was
catalysed by a decline in rainfall in the area, leading to failed harvests and competition for access to
this resource, with other factors such as political marginalization influencing the violence.... Show

Difficulties in stopping this world order conflict in Sudan arose from factors such as the use of
the veto power in the UN Security Council to prevent the UN imposing sanctions and stopping
the conflict. This was seen in China s use of the veto power in regards to the conflict in Sudan,
resulting in a prolonging of the conflict, China has used its veto at the UN Security Council to
block moves to impose sanctions on Sudan unless it stops the fighting in Darfur (BBC, 2007).
Thus, the conflict in Darfur, Sudan is an example of a world order conflict associated with access
to resources as well as a conflict which has difficulties stopping due to factors such as use of the

The Composition Of Felony Criminal Trials For The Public...
During my time interning at the Public Defender s Office, I have observed that time is one of the
biggest issues. It has been shown that is quicker for an indigent individual to plead guilty than it is
for them to receive adequate legal representation. After obtaining an attorney, it is a lengthy process
when going through the different hearings and trials. Often taking several months for cases to be
fully resolved. The composition of felony criminal trials in Lowndes County is very complex.
There are several various steps within the trialprocess. The first official step before conducting a
trial is making an arrest. An arrest can be made with or without a warrant; however, probable
cause must be present in both cases. Upon making an arrest, the detaining officer has forty eight
hours to appear before a judge with probable cause for the arrest, which is the sufficient reason
based on the facts that a crimehas been committed. Subsequently, after being arraigned, if the
individual cannot afford an attorney one is appointed to them from the Public Defender s office.
Next occurs the indictment. The District Attorney s office receives the arrest warrant and then
reviews the case, by dropping and adding charges if necessary. They also have the discovery, which
is the evidence the state has against the defendant. The case then goes before a Grand Juryto
determine if an indictment is ready. The following month the first hearing to occur after a defendant
is indicted is the

Pixar Animation Studios
Pixar Animation Studios Pixar has a very interesting early history. It began in 1979 as the
Graphics Group, which was one third of the Computer Division of Lucasfilm[ 0]. After moving
to Lucasfilm, they worked on creating the precursor to RenderMan[ 1], called REYES, meaning
renders everything you ever saw and developed a number of critical technologies, including
particle effects and various animation tools. After parting ways with Lucas film, Pixar became a
corporation in 1986 with funding by Apple Inc.[ 2] co founder Steve Jobs[ 3], who became its
majority shareholder. The Walt Disney Company[ 4] bought Pixar in 2006 for $7.4 billion, which

Following Pixar shareholder[ 15] approval, the acquisition was completed May 5, 2006. The
transaction catapulted Steve Jobs, who was the majority shareholder of Pixar with 50.1%, to
Disney s largest individual shareholder with 7% and a new seat on its board of directors. Jobs
new Disney holdings surpassed holdings belonging to ex CEO Michael Eisner[ 16], the
previous top shareholder, who still held 1.7% and Disney Director Emeritus Roy E. Disney[
17], who held almost 1% of the corporation s shares. Disney and Pixar studios did not mean that
the two studios were merging, however. In fact, additional conditions were laid out as part of
the deal to ensure that Pixar remained a separate entity[ 18], a concern that analysts had
expressed about the Disney deal. Some of those conditions were that Pixar HR[ 19] policies
would remain intact, including the lack of employment contracts. Also, the Pixar name was
guaranteed to continue, and the studio would remain in its current Emeryville, California[ 20]
location with the Pixar sign. Finally, branding of films made post merger would be DisneyPixar
. Pixar has produced thirteen feature films[ 21], beginning with Toy Story[ 22] in 1995. Toy
Story was one of my favorite films at the time. The animation was groundbreaking for its time. It
was followed by A Bug s Life[ 23] in 1998, Toy Story 2[ 24], 1999, Monsters, Inc.[ 25], 2001,

Art Critique
The first art work of Egypt I saw on the Google Cultural Institute website was the Relief sculpture
of Metjetji and his son Sabu pyah . This sculpture was found in the Tomb of Metjetji, Saqqara,
Egypt. The sculpture can be divided into two parts: hieroglyphs on the right, and the graph on
the left which drew a man who was holding staff in each hand. He is looking right, shows us his
profile of his face, knees and legs, while his eyes and chest are frontal. His kilt and hair are precise
with vertical and horizon lines. His necklace and bears are also detail. He has long hair and an
elegant bracelet is on his left hand. The sculpturetries to picture this man s body line. There is also

Statue (ANKH) on the website. It is a man sitting on a chair. His back is straight, right hand is
cross in fist and puts it on his thigh while his left arm cross his body. His pose shows a great
power and confidence, so I guess he is a noble. His lip is thick but nose is small. I can identify his

Housing Ambassador Research Paper
Two main reasons contribute to why I would love to become a Housing Ambassador. To help get
many prospective and current students excited and involved in campus housing is the first
reason. So many people shoot down on campus housing because of the price; however, people
do not realize housing is more than just a room you pay for. You live here, study here, and have
fun here. There are many events, free stuff, and free food that residence halls and RSA provide
for students. I want to be able to show students that off campus students do not have the same
experiences as on campus students. The second reason I would like to become a Housing
Ambassador is for the experience. Ultimately, I would like to become a dean or chancellor of a
collegein my golden years. Being an Housing Ambassador would provide me with life long
experiences that I could take into my future careers as a business leader, politician, and dean
/ chancellor.
I possess many unique skills that would make me a great Housing Ambassador, but will only talk
about two. One of those skills is being social. I am a very social person and I love being around
people. Being social would benefit me as a Housing Ambassador because a quiet tour would be a

  • 2. The Secret To Motivate An Unmotivated Dog If a dog has just been adopted, they can feel scared. They don t know where they are are what their surroundings consist of. So, getting the dog to cooperate a little bit should be the first thing you do. Try to figure out ways to get them excited and playful. Explore activities that encourage strong bonds and build trust. (Marie, Rachel: The Secret To Motivating An Unmotivated Dog) Spend time discovering new place and new experiences with your dog. ( Marie, Rachel: The Secret To Motivating An Unmotivated Dog). Even giving the dog your approval of something can motivate them. Because it lets them know that they are able to do what they would like to without getting in trouble first. Giving a dog food isn t always the answer.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dog would be fearful that they would get yelled at, grabbed, shaken, or even smacked. Times since then have definitely changed and now, we use toys, treats, etc. Before, we motivated our dogs to avoid being bad. ( Pippa:How To Motivate Your Dog) We now use motivators that the dogs want, rather than what they are afraid of. Respect (although sounds like it would be a good motivator) is really only a show of fear from dog to owner. The dog is afraid that they will get yelled at for correction or there will be some kind of disapproval. Respect from the dog is a powerful tool, it s just not a very useful/sufficient tool. However, some of the most powerful working motivators include food no surprise there but that is what dogs love most. Long ago, dogs used to have to hunt in order to get their food. Since they have evolved from wolves, that behavior is still in them, so really a dog will do anything to get the food you offer them. Controlling the motivation tool, though, is useful for the owner when trying to train the dog. It helps with behavior and it gives you a clue on what they ll act like when they re older. Since a treat is the ultimate motivator, it keeps the dog in check. So ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Yorktown Case Analysis Essays Running Head: YORKTOWN TECHNOLOGIES CASE ANALYSIS Yorktown Technologies Case Analysis Case Recap Founded in 2001, Yorktown Technologies, Inc. is a company that specializes in the ornamental fish industry. The globalization of the ornamental fish industry happened over a half a century ago. Hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish can be purchased as pets in virtually any industrialized nation in the world (Broy, 2011). Yorktown Technologies commercializes a genetically modified fish called GloFish, which appear to glow in the dark (Mueller, 2010). GloFish are zebrafish that have been genetically modified with fluorescent colors. They are the first genetically modified animals to become publicly available as pets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fish are not available in California due to state regulations that ban biotech aquatic organisms (GloFish, 2011). In addition, Singapore where the fish was originally engineered has been reluctant to approve its sale (Ely, 2004). This places an additional limit on potential marketing and distribution strategies. Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. They will be available in three colors: red, green, and orange (GloFish, 2011). Yorktown Technologies has an exclusive product and market niche. The company has a substantial number of patents and patent pending applications for GloFish (GloFish, 2011). In addition, the production, market, and distribution of fluorescent fish are strictly prohibited without the approval of Yorktown Technologies (GloFish, 2011). This gives the company a monopoly on fluorescent fish and makes it impossible for other companies to produce, market, and distribute them. Identifying the Root Problem Components Yorktown Technologies have several issues that may affect marketing and distribution. The issues are geographical distribution, production, supply and demand, environmental concerns, and retail outlets. First, GloFish are not approved for distribution and sale in California. During the 1970s, Rock and Roll dominated the music culture and charts with some of the best hits from bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and others, while at the same time early Hip Hop were starting up with artists such as Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash. The genre stayed an underground phenomenon throughout the 1970s and fairly unpopular with the white audience of Rock and Roll, which held back its appearance in mainstream music until the mid 1980s. In this paper, I compare the differences in the arrangements of the song Walk This Way by the rock band Aerosmithand a cover done by the Hip Hop group Run D.M.C, and explore the music culture of the 1970s and 1980s which influence the original song and its cover version. I argue that Run DMC s progressive crossover cover of Walk This Way by Aerosmith took down the wall separating Rock and Roll and Hip Hop, legitimizing the genre s acceptability and propelling it into popular mainstream music. The 1970s, also known as the Me Decade , was a time of diversifying music. The Beatles had broken up, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin had died from drug overdose, Led Zeppelin was Britain s most popular group, The Rolling Stones weren t active, and rock roll was branching out into various popular subgenres such as: Country Rock, Glam Rock, Progressive Rock, Punk Rock, Soft Rock, and Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. • 7. Famine Affluence And Morality Peter Singer Summary In Peter Singer s article, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, he proposes the question: What are the moral implications of a situation like the one in Bengal (230)? In order to answer this question Singer presents at least two arguments which involve what one ought to do and the moral consequences of not acting or pursuing our moralobligations. His first and central conclusion is that we ought to behave in such a way as to decrease suffering and death as a result of lack of food, shelter and medical care. Assuming that the aforementioned events are bad Peter singer argues that we are morally obligated to help relieve great suffering of the sort that occurs as a result of famine or other disasters as long as we can without sacrificing something else of comparable moral importance (238). In fact, he goes so far as to present an additional conclusion that not acting or pursuing our moral obligation to help is unjustifiable and wrong and we must then change our moral schema about the obligations we have to others. In order to evaluate the validity of this argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By doing this I think he strengthens his argument. As far as I can tell, he does not resort to any type of logical fallacy (i.e. ad hominem, appeals to authority, straw man, etc.) which would discredit the opposing side. Instead, he presents arguments against his claim and acknowledges them professionally and provides pragmatic solutions. Hotel owners and Franchises: Marriott International and Starwood Hotels and Resorts both have different unique selling points enabling them to become large hotel companies. With the merger, both companies will combine their unique qualities to encourage efficiency as well as new hotel developments. These improvements may be able to increase profitability enabling owners to have increase in their revenue (Bethesda, 2016). Due to the large increase in customer base and owning multiple properties all over the world, competition certainly has reduced as a result. Thus, this may lead to monopolization of certain hotel markets increasing profits for existing hotel owners and franchises (Butler, 2016). In addition, as both companies already have their own wide company portfolio and brands, in the long term Marriott International and Starwood Hotels and Resort can take advantage of the opportunity to explore variety of brands within the expansion of their brand families. The exponential increase in their market power and data access may lead to increase in their economies of scale, further increasing their profitability. In addition, the increase market power means the companies will have stronger bargaining power against OTAs, resulting in lower booking fees. • 15. Marginal Utility Vs. Utility Theory Fifty years after Jeremy Bentham s initial defention of utility, the German economist Hermann Heinrich Gossen introduced the term marginal utility and the law of diminishing marginal utility. The term marginal utility is defined as the pleasure or pain from an additional unit or dose of a good. The introduction of marginal utilityto economic thought and vocabulary was revolutionary, reducing the need to measure total pleasure or pain because Even if marginal utilities were measured on a cardinal scale, they would tell us nothing about how much total utility there was (even if it was maximized) because they are still only measured up to an additive constant. An additional benefit of marginal utilitywas the introduction of the principle of marginal utility theory, which Gossen explained as, Man maximizes his total life pleasure if he distributes his entire money income ... among the various enjoyments ... so that the last atom of money spent on each single pleasure yields the same amount of pleasure. Marginal utility was considered easier to measure than utility as a whole, although still very difficult to define. At the same time, Gossen was also introducing the law of diminishing marginal utility, which was one of the most important steps in developing the economic theory around utility. At the time that Gossen introduced the law of diminishing marginal returns, there an equivalent law, called Turgot s law, had already been developed for the producer s side of ... This becomes a major factor, as Laetita sees her mother on the news, and wants to come back to the reserve, symbolising Laetita s realisation for pride. King also emphasizes this idea through Laetita stating her response in English, as English is the cultural norm, for all societies, and cultures, while Laetita s mother states her question in blackfoot . The mother is unhappy that her own daughter is turning on her heritage, which the mother holds in high regard. Write about the way the character is created, and compare this with the way other characters are created in three other poems. You should compare it with one poem by Simon Armitage and two poems from the pre 1912 poetry bank. In Havisham, Carol Ann Duffy explores the character of Mrs Havisham and develops her by using vivid imagery and metaphors. She starts the poem with Beloved sweetheart bastard which is an oxymoron, used to display her mixed emotions about love and the man who jilted her. The plosive sounds of b and d reinforce her angry tone and helps show how she mocks romance. She is displayed as a bitter, hateful character who seeks revenge, shown with not a ... In Havisham colours are used to create a contrast between a white veil which is the colour of virginity and purity, and a red balloon which can be the colour of love and sex but also for anger, hatred and embarrassment. Duffy uses this as a way to explore all the feelings and emotions of the character and could be interpreted as Duffy trying to make the audience have sympathy for Mrs Havisham. The Laboratory uses colours to create a superficial character who doesn t see the poison as dangerous or deadly, but as some sort of treasure. She refers to gold oozings and the exquisite blue as if to think of them as magical potions and not poisons. This is done to create an almost naivety to her character and suggests that she doesn t understand how dangerous her actions are. The Laboratory is set out in rhyming couplets to create a playful rhythm to show the character s childish behaviour, and how she may not be fully aware of her dangerous her actions are. Additionally, since the Foundation strives to put on exceptional exhibitions for an increasingly diverse international audience, the Armani exhibition fulfills this part of the mission because it attracted a high level of attentionВ—from celebrities to experts in the fashion industry to businesspeopleВ—who came from different parts of the world to see the famous works of Armani. Thus, this exhibition does appear to fulfill the mission of the Foundation. However, it is important to note that while at face value the Armani exhibition seems to fulfill the mission of the Foundation, the actual Armani exhibition itself tells a different story. Multiple themes are presented through the lives of these families in three separate acts: Daily Life , Love and Marriage , and Death and Eternity . Although each act entails different commonly faced problems and themes, the play does not lack a central, universal theme. Each act contributes to a main theme about human life that, even after 81 years, is still relevant to society today. The main theme of the play, Our Town, is that human life is repetitive and temporary. The repetition of daily life can mainly be found in Acts I and II, where the Gibbes, Webbs, and other characters continually do the same thing everyday. The first act, Daily Life , begins with Howie Newsome, deliverin the milk (Wilder 10) to the Webb and Gibbs families. Similarly to Act I, the second act, Love and Marriage , starts with Howie Newsome delivering the milk (49). The beginnings of the acts presents little change between the mornings of three years. One of the main reasons Pulp Fiction has found so much success and praise in the art community is that Tarantino ushered in a new era of post modernism in the film industry. So it is easier to make a profit in short amount of time by making a spot trade when the currency s price is good. On the other hand, when the liquidity is at its lowest, the trades become very slow and the fluctuations of prices happen slowly. It is also important to mention that the price changes are drastic. The Changing Role Of Prisons In The 18th Century Between the late 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, crime was generally perceived as a rising lower class problem which required brutal suppression. For this reason, the criminal justice, particularly in the latter part of the 17th century, became more punitive and coercive: corporal punishments such as flogging, mutilation and execution were increasingly used as predominant sanctions (Braithwaite, 1993). These forms of punishments often took place in public, as the main objective at the time was to put offenders into highly stigmatic shame through brutal humiliation, degradation and out casting (Beattie, 1984). Prisons at the time were typically characterised by no segregation of men from women, no classification of offenders, and no segregation of tried and untried offenders (Muncie and McLaughlin). In the late 18th century, as recorded by John Howard (penal reformer), the regimes implemented in prisons were such that offenders were living in appalling conditions: indeed, Howard reported that prisons were poorly ventilated and illuminated, and they were mostly characterised by lack of sanitation, washing facilities and cleanliness. Even though exhibitors were given information about the films they were licensing like who starred in it, what it was about, etc. the films were licensed without viewing the movie at the time of contracting (Klein, 2000, p. 431), which meant that the movie studios could even profit off of bad productions as these blocks were sold as a bulk all or nothing deal. The only viable way to make profits was to rely on the novelty of an early run of a new release to attract audiences. The problem with such a reliance was that runs in theaters were regulated by the Clearance and Zoning boards, which were set up as another practice under the Code in an attempt to organize distribution of films in the nation. It arranged theaters in different regions on the marketing pattern of zoning, clearance and run. The country was divided into thirty markets, compartmentalized into zones, and classified by runs that would range from fourteen days to forty two days or more with a potential of running for more than a year in large markets (Schuchman, Balio, 1994). This practice gave the Board, which was dominated by the Big 5, the power to control which movie would play when and where. This was specifically important as movies that were already viewed by the potential audience, would not draw in the same patronage as it would in the first run. Consequently whoever got the right to show the movie first would stand to make the most profit. It was very obvious that this would be a potential source of discrimination against independent exhibitors as the Big 5 would favor their own exhibition houses over that of independent exhibitors. However, Kolb describes Marshal Jack Potter as a nervous unarmed honeymooner, who rides a train instead of a horse (98). In the story, Potter is described as wearing a new black suit that most likely was purchased in San Antonio (23). This gives the reader the idea that the East influenced the West a great deal, considering a hard nosed, sharp shooting town hero most likely should not be wearing a new suit that was made in the East. The stereotypical western criminal is mean, dirty, selfish, and constantly stirring up trouble. In The Bride, your criminal is Scratchy Wilson. However, as Kolb describes, the difference between Scratchy and most other Western villains is that Scratchy s main crime seems to be that he can t hold his liquor (98). The eastern culture is brought up again in the story through Scratchy s clothes. You d expect to visualize a rough and dirty character whose soul is as dark as his clothes. • 38. Enter Three Witches Chapter Summary Enter Three Witches is a gripping retelling of Shakespeare s classic Macbeth. Written by Caroline Cooney, the novel follows Lady Mary as she experiences the tyranny of Lady Macbeth, and the struggles of trying to save the lives of anyone she can. Many comparisons can be drawn to the original, however many differences are prevalent. Although suspenseful and action packed, Enter Three Witchesstruggles with keeping characters straight and starts off very slow. Cooney takes the reader on a sporadic point of view hopping adventure throughout the world of Mr. and Mrs. Macbeth. Following Lady Mary, Seyton, Fleance, and the maids, we get an individual perspective of the events of Macbeth. It soon becomes very difficult to determine what events are being referred to, and extremely difficult due to the time frames being covered. The story covers many characters and relations, and gives an inside look at day to day... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story begins to feel like slow motion as they are introduced in a long exposition covering the vast amount of people. We are repeatedly told how Lady Mary is afraid, and how she is struggling to escape the harsh realities of life with Lady Macbeth. Although there is an early battle revealed in the novel, the drawn out expositions overshadow the suspense of Enter Three Witches. The novel also focuses too much on the role the witches play. In the original Macbeth, the battle of ambition versus prophecy is shown in the likes of Macbeth. Macbeth decidedly acts on his own accord, and his greed turns him into a mad man. It is shown countless times throughout the original that ambition trumps prophecy. In Enter Three Witches, the Witch s prophecy is the law of the land. • 39. A Simulation For The Motor Of A Bldc Motor Drive With The... This paper presents a simulation for the sensorless operation of a BLDC motor drive with the estimation of initial rotor position at standstill. The system determines the actual rotor position of the motor at standstill and provides appropriate starting pulses to inverter switches to turn on. Once the motor starts to rotate, it then directly extracts the back EMF from the motor terminals between the floating phase and the midpoint of DC link. Inductance variation sensing method is used for estimating the initial rotor position of the motor followed by a sensorless operation by back EMF sensing method. The principle behind the rotor position estimation is detection and comparison of phase voltageand dc link current responses and relating it with stator inductances. The most advantage is that it requires only three voltage pulse injections of small duration for the estimation of rotor position. A resolution of 30o can be achieved. The effectiveness of the method is validated by simulation results in Matlab Simulink platform. Keywords Brushless DC(BLDC), saturation, rotor position, voltage pulse injection. I. INTRODUCTION ndustrial application of brushless DC motors (BLDC), is being increased day by day because of their outstanding features like high starting torque, high efficiency, no excitation losses, silent operation and durability finding applications such as compressor, in electrical vehicles, hard disc drives. You can determine this by looking at such things as plot, character, and the use of language. The book is about a sailor that has been impressed (the act of forcibly taking sailors and making them serve in the navy) by the British navy. It is set in the late 1700 s during the French Revolution which overthrew the anarchy, addressed peoples concerns, and it was mainly a focus on human rights. Also it can make it more exciting because you know where they would be on the boat and you know if a person can be maybe close to falling off the boat. The plot was also interesting because you know that the people on the boat are far away from land so if anything happens such as a low supply of food then you know they most likely will not be able to get back to land to replenish their food supply. It is just mainly interesting because you know that they, for the most part; are cut off from society, because they have no way of contacting them. They did not have things like cell phones or anything then so they had to rely on each other. The novel was not so great due to some of the characters. Mr. Claggart to be more specific. The role he played was the ships master at arms. But the cruel nature of the man was taken a little to far. Making you more wonder why he was yelling at some one and at some times making the book a little more confusing than it should had been. If you have no clue why a character is yelling at another character you are more confused then anything. Some shows (SpongeBob) teaches that it is fine to commit an inappropriate action because there will not be a punishment and kids feel that if they do the same thing as their favorite character from the program who committed the crime they will be a hero. Researchers have identified three potential responses to media violence in children: increase fear, desensitization to real life violence, and increase aggressive behavior. It may desensitve kids so much they think it is okay and no big deal for somebody to be hit or to hit someone in the head with a hammer. Kids who view violent acts are more likely to show aggressive behavior, but also fear that the world is scary and that everyday something bad will happen. It has been shown that is quicker for an indigent individual to plead guilty than it is for them to receive adequate legal representation. After obtaining an attorney, it is a lengthy process when going through the different hearings and trials. Often taking several months for cases to be fully resolved. The composition of felony criminal trials in Lowndes County is very complex. There are several various steps within the trialprocess. The first official step before conducting a trial is making an arrest. An arrest can be made with or without a warrant; however, probable cause must be present in both cases. Upon making an arrest, the detaining officer has forty eight hours to appear before a judge with probable cause for the arrest, which is the sufficient reason based on the facts that a crimehas been committed. Subsequently, after being arraigned, if the individual cannot afford an attorney one is appointed to them from the Public Defender s office. Next occurs the indictment. The District Attorney s office receives the arrest warrant and then reviews the case, by dropping and adding charges if necessary. They also have the discovery, which is the evidence the state has against the defendant. The case then goes before a Grand Juryto determine if an indictment is ready.
