2. LGBT
Since the early 1980s, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
community has been the centre of various movements involving
people of diverse sexual orientations and cultures. They have been
influenced heavily by the other social movements in an attempt to
make a better society. Since they were first founded, they have
tried to introduce all sexual orientations and genders possible, such
as intersex individuals and those that do not identify with any given
label.

3. Commitment
Since the initial riots, the LGBT has always fought with the idea of
everybody having equal rights in mind. Members were willing to actively
defy police officers and expose themselves publically to support their
ideology, without fear of the possible consequences. Before 1922, being
gay was considered a crime and before the 1900s people would be
sentenced to death by hanging or other degrading method for the same
reason. In these harsh times homosexual people hid from the public to
avoid the extreme punishment, but since the appearance of the LGBT,
they have slowly been able to express themselves freely inside a group.
The people that are part of the LGBT truly support their views since they
are fighting for their own rights, and they will not back down against a
majority that does not understand them and their decisions.

4. Consistency
From the sexual revolution back in the 60s and
the radical gay liberation in the early 70s, the
LGBT has constantly been fighting against
discrimination, with the purpose of achieving
equal rights for all human beings, regardless of
any differences both physically and
psychologically. By rebelling against the system
with tactics such as public exposure and civil
disobedience, they have constantly defied the
oppressing majority and changed the ideology of
millions of people.

5. Flexibility
The mind-set of the LGBT has been influenced by other movements such as the Black Power movement or the
Feminist movement. Even after being publically chased, harassed, and even killed, their mentality over the
years has evolved accompanying the social changes around it. By being open about their needs and accepting
all sexual orientations into their group, they have gained more ground in the fight and are now allowed to
express themselves publically. There are new laws being made all over the world to allow gay marriage and
festivals to celebrate their sexuality. Examples like gay marriage show that the LGBT is open to opinions and
other people’s rights, since they are not allowed to marry by the church (due to laws of a religious nature) but
are allowed to have civil marriages.

6. By using these key ideas, the LGBT has improved the life of millions
of individuals in less than half a century. Every day they’re closer to
achieving equal rights for everybody, and through their constant
fight they’re making a new world in which people can enjoy being
themselves.
