INTRODUCTION
This idea of mobile bridges was came into light due to
the clash between two villages, which are separated by
a valley. A situation came to them that the bridge
between these two villages is necessary, for easy
transportation. But the question come to them is “who
should built the bridge”. Then …..They got an idea of
constructing a temporary bridge for their own use.
Then they worked on mobile bridges. Then onwards
the idea of mobile bridges is came into existence.
MAINLY USED
THESE MILITARY BRIDGES ARE MAINLY USED IN
THE FOLLOWING CASES
 IN MILITARY
 IN EMERGENCY CASES
 FOR DISASTER RELIEF OPERATIONS
TYPES
THERE ARE THREE TYPES GENERALY USED
 The Dry Support Bridge
 The Medium Girder Bridge (MGB)
 The Air Portable Ferry Bridge (APFB)
THE DRY SUPPORT BRIDGE
 Has a gap crossing capability up to 46 m
 It can bare up to 120 tonnes on it
 Can be built by a crew of 8 in less than 90 minutes
 It has been in service since 2003
 Mostly used in USA, SOUTH KOREA, GERMANY
AND IRAQ.
DSB SPANING THE GAP ON A MAIN HIGH WAY IN
NORTHERN KOREA
THE MEDIUM GIRDER BRIDGE
 It has a gap crossing capabilities ranges from 9.8 m to
76 m
 It can be easily built in all types of wet and dry gaps
 A 31 meters bridge can be developed in under an hour
by a trained team of 24 persons
 MGB bridges are used in nearly 38 countries all over
the world
MGB IN USE IN THE FAR EAST
THE AIR PORTABLE FERRY BRIDGE
 It has the range of development options from bridging
gaps up to 29.2 m
 It can be carried on 6 trailers towable by a range of
different 4 * 4 vehicles
 It was generally designed for use by British army and
fly forces
 It entered services in 2006
 It is used in military operations in Afghanistan
THE APFB FERRY
IMPACT OF IT
 with its flexibility of use and deployment, which is
currently creating considerable interest in
those countries suffering from flooding as a result of
global warming. Each system would be an asset to
countries prone to suffering the effects of natural
disasters but would need to be held in stock, ready for
deployment.
RECENT NATURAL DISASTERS
Recent disasters where military bridges are mainly
used and made implemented are
 Pakistan Earthquake
 The Indian ocean Tsunami
 Mud slides in central America
 Major flooding in Africa
 Taiwan
MGB used in a disaster relief operation
(with handrail).
ADVANTAGES
 Easy to construct
 cheaper in cost
 Can be built with less no of crew
 Can be constructed in less time
CONCLUSION
 Made of iron or steel
 Used in emergency planner
Can be constructed and removed easily
 Easy in providing medical and relief supplies
