Educational Facilities For New Building Code Regulations
Educational facilities designed and built between 1950 and 1970 have come to a point in their building
s life cycle that it is time for them to retire. These schools are no longer viable to keep running
because of the financial strain to upgrade to new building code regulations. This means a flux of
education construction is upon us. This also means that these schools, unless they are private, will be
given a bond issue awarded by the state. Traditionally, schools are one of the tightest budgets to work
with because they need to get the most for their money.
One mindset that will save the owner money in the long term is thinking about life cycle cost and
maintenance. One of the biggest issues with any new construction is the maintenance cost of running
the building years after completion. Now this could mean many things from the HVAC to the paint on
the walls. In schools, the interior finishes are not changed very often; therefore, need special attention.
Today interior finishes are being selected more carefully in order to save money on maintenance cost,
longevity, and durability.
A big maintenance cost to schools is the flooring. Traditionally, schools have chosen vinyl
composition tile, or VCT, for the majority of the flooring. When the schools were built sixty years ago
this was the best option for longevity. Today that is not the case. In fact VCT flooring is no longer
financially or ecologically efficient for the progressive future of educational facilities.

Research Paper On Eiffel
The architectural genius of the late nineteenth century French architect Alexandre Gustave Eiffel was
of such ingenuity that among the French speaking world that international influence singlehandedly
rose French prestige across the world. Eiffel s most famous construction, undoubtedly, is the Eiffel
Tower, which was unveiled during the Exposition Universelle, Eiffel singlehandedly put a beacon
which is so associated with Paris today that millions of people travel to France every year to see this
marvel of nineteenth century construction, and it brought him the nickname [the] magician of iron .
(Eiffel, Gustave). Gustave Eiffel was born on December 15th, 1832 in Dijon, France ((Alexandre)),
the son of François Alexandre Eiffel and Catherine Mélanie Moneuse. Gustave spent his childhood
with his maternal grandmother in the same city, where he will integrate high school (Biography).
Eiffel exhibited talent for the sciences, and he enrolled in the College of Art and Manufacturing , and
graduated in 1855 , where he soon began to specialize in metal construction, especially bridges
(Editors), despite leaving the university with a degree in chemistry . Eiffel soon established himself as
a builder in metal framing , and in 1864 supervised the work of the important railway bridge in
Bordeaux .The iron railway bridge over the Garonne River (Condit) proved to be Eiffel s major expo
before the building of the Eiffel tower in 1889. Eiffel s career as a builder and a

Definitions Of The First Vatican Council
The task of the first Vatican Council is clearly defined in the following declaration at the opening of
the Council:
The Holy Catholic Apostolic Roman Church believes and confesses that there is one true and living
God, Creator and Lord of heaven and earth, Almighty, Eternal, Immense, Incomprehensible, Infinite in
intelligence, in will, and in all perfection, who, as being one, sole, absolutely simple and immutable
spiritual substance, is to be declared as really and essentially distinct from the world, of supreme
beatitude in and from Himself, and ineffably exalted above all things which exist, or are conceivable,
except Himself .
The opening statement at the Second Vatican Council declares:
It is clear, therefore, that sacred tradition, Sacred Scripture and the teaching authority of the Church, in
accord with God s most wise design, are so linked and joined together that one cannot stand without
the others, and that all together and each in its own way under the action of the one Holy Spirit
contribute effectively to the salvation of souls.
Both declarations define with great clarity what each Council set out as the unique task and aims they
desire to achieve. They declare one faith but with different goals and objectives, similar and dissimilar.
The Second Vatican Council s methodology towards originality was similar to that of the First Vatican
Council. The theological declarations of each council were deeply predisposed by the socio political
background during

Write A Narrative Essay About Moving To Suburbss
It wasn t easy at first for Ludi to move to suburbs. The first time she heard a proposal from her
husband, Trevor, she was strictly against it. Being born and brought up in the city and now a sudden
shift to suburbs seemed something she can t get used to. A super fast life in the city versus a relaxing
life in suburbs were two different things according to her. It was bad enough that she was a housewife;
in the city, her time passed by pretty quickly doing the chores and going out and about. Though, in the
suburbs, her list of chores fell short. She found more time on her hand even after finishing her daily
activities.
He said it was for a better future and being the lovely wife, she agreed moving to the suburbs. It was

Needing some groceries, she had gone out and just had returned back as it was merely afternoon. It
was pretty hot outside so she had a summery outfit that came to her mid thighs and pretty much
snugged loosely around her body. When she heard her doorbell, she was in kitchen, putting her
groceries away and was just finishing. She wiped her hands on a towel as she walked with it to get the
door. She pushed the tiny curtain to peek out of the small window next to the door, to see who it was
and found a well dressed man who seemed as if he was here to sell something to her. She unlocked her
door and opened it, seeming hesitant and giving him an unpleasant gaze, showing she wasn t
interested in what he was selling, May I help you? She said flicking her hair over her shoulders. Now,
she stood tall at 5ft 7 inches but he seemed to just tower over her as she had to tilt her head back to

Reasons for the U.S. Turning to Imperialism at the End of...
Essay Question: Why did the U.S. turn to Imperialism at the end of the 19th century?
Imperialism is the creation and maintenance of an unequal economic, cultural, and territorial
relationship, usually between states and often in the form of an empire, based on domination and
subordination. (Johnston 375) By the 1890s, many Americans leaders started to have new attitude
towards imperialistic adventures abroad. There were numerous reasons for the U.S. to turn to
Imperialism at the end of the 19th century, mainly the economic, political, strategic, and humanitarian
motives. Various industrialists as well as investors including bankers and the new wealthy class feared
that the United States would soon produce more than it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An initial indication for American attitudes toward the use of force abroad was demonstrated in
Hawaii. In 1893, encouraged by the Harrison administration and assisted by the U.S. Marines from the
cruiser Boston, pro American sugar planter overthrew Queen Liliuokalani and requested the
annexation of Hawaii by the U.S. After that, President Grover Cleveland sent a commission to Hawaii
to determine the wishes of the Hawaiian citizens concerning their future, Last but not least, the idea of
racial superiority from Social Darwinism and, ironically, the moral responsibility to civilize and uplift
the inferior races of Africa and Asia accounted for the increased American interest in foreign frontiers
in the 1890s. In his book Our Country, Josiah Strong stated that God had appointed Anglo Saxons to
be their brother s keeper. Furthermore, Kipling bolstered the idea of the White Man s Burden , the
duty of white people to help and educate people who lived in undeveloped civilization . Senator Albert
J. Beveridge of Indiana also suggested that the opening of the frontier would free the American spirit.
Right before the Spanish American War or the Cuban War for Independence 1898, American public
opinion was heavily influence by the Yellow Press . Sensationalized stories about butcher Weyler and
the horrendous human conditions in concentration camps were published and spread throughout the

Macbeth who committed a sin by murdering King Duncan and taking the throne gets overwhelmed
with guilt as his life progresses as King. By becoming King, he is engulfed with power, but he was
never happy about the position he held. The guilt of taking King Duncan s power has to lead him to be
unsatisfied with his wealth since he didn t truly deserve it. His ambition for the gain of power
prevailed when he decided to murder King Duncan causing him to be more ambitious for power in the
form of killing. By seeing the ghost of Banquo and hiding the death of King Duncan makes Macbeth
mentally unstable and causes him to make irrational acts of killing and decision making, such as to kill
Macduff s family solely on the reason that he s afraid of Macduff. Both Lady Macbeth and the
Witches try to control Macbeth through persuasion, prophecies, and apparitions lead to Macbeth being
unsatisfied with his doings and his murders because Macbeth believes that there is always more power
to gain from killing. In Macbeth, the symbol of guilt is shown through the substance of blood that is

Essay on Shinto Faith
Shintoism is an ancient religion that originated in Japanese culture. Shinto is a general term for the
activities of the people of Japanese descent to worship all the deities of heaven and earth, and at the
end of the 6th century the Japanese were conscious of these activities and called them the Way of
Kami (the deity or the deities) . The practice of Shintoism finally recognized when Yomei, the 31st
Emperor of Japan, prayed before an image of Buddha for the first time as an emperor for recovery of
his illness. Then Yomei accepted Buddhism, a foreign religion, the Japanese realized existence of a
tradition of their own faith.
The Shinto faith is based on Japanese mythology. One of the most important mythological stories in

The form of the Shinto rituals is considered to be established at this time including Haraekotoba. In
this Haraekotoba, which was chanted for a purification ceremony at that time and is still chanted, the
sins are listed and they are categorized into two: Amatsu Tsumi and Kunitsu Tsumi. At this time, Ritsu
(or the criminal law) were established under the influence of the Chinese Law of the Tang Age. It is
convenient to see these laws in order to look at the Shinto concept of the sin and those sins, which
were prohibited by the secular laws. The gravest sin called Amatsu Tusmi described in the Oharae is
those deeds, which were committed by Susanowo no Mikoto, the brother deity of Amaterasu
Ohmikami, the supreme Kami. According to the myth, he was so rejoiced by being able to prove that
he had no ill feeling against his sister deity, Amaterasu Ohmikami, that he committed vulgarity such as
destroying the paddy fields of Amaterasu Ohmikami to have crop for Niinamesai (Rice crop rite), the
weaving shop where the cloths for the deities were woven and also several other violent mischievous
deeds. It means that all these deeds were against divine festivals. It is described in the myth that
because of these vulgarities, a part of Susanowo s assets was taken away from him and purged from
Heaven. According to the Ritsu, these deeds correspond to the sixth sin,

Human Papillomavirus Known As Hpv
Causative Organism(s): Human papillomavirus known as HPV is a Papovavirus that is transmitted
sexually. It is in fact one of the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States, it
comes in hundred different forms and affects the body in different ways. Some forms of it can cause
warts while others may cause cervical changes that may lead to cancer (4). HPV can infect both man
and woman but only causes cancer in females. Although HPV seems to have a more severe effect on
women than men it still places both in danger. Men can unknowingly be carriers of the virus that can
affect the woman severely, therefore both men and women have to take responsibility to decrease the

Symbolism In The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls By Henry...
Henry Longfellow and John Whitter both used symbolism to juristically make their writing more
appealing and full of elements. For Longfellow it was The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls ..In the poem,
The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls , the theme to me is surrounded around the fact of life goes on. The rise
and fall of the tides in the ocean represent the way life is a roller coaster and it goes up and down and
never slows down. An example to relate to the theme is when Longfellow says The day returns, but
nevermore Returns the traveller to the shore, and the tide rises, the tide falls. While he claims this it
supports the fact that this is about life changing, it supports it because once the day comes to an end,
and the traveller (person living life) is at rest from a long day, the tide rises and falls. In other ways,
life still goes on. Now as for John Whitter s poem, Snowbound, I believe the theme for this piece of
literature is overcoming the odds. The setting I thought of was in a little cabin that was trying its best
to stand tall through a harsh winter storm. The heat in doors was limited and the family inside was just
trying to make it through what seemed like a never ending storm. In the poem one line that caught my
eye about them overcoming the odds was We watched the first red blaze appear, Heard the sharp
crackle, caught the gleam, On whitewashed wall and sagging beam, . While he claims this is supports
the fact that this is about how regardless of the situation, no

The EU Banana Trade Dispute
The EU Banana Dispute Until the implementation of an EU wide banana trade regime that went into
effect in the summer of 1993, each of the then twelve member countries of the European Union had
their own system of tariffs (or lack of tariffs) for incoming agricultural products, including bananas
(Patterson, 2001). After the relevant legislation was enacted, however, bananas from certain countries
known as ACP countries developing countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific that were by
and large former colonies of European Union member states and were in need of trade assistance
according to the prevailing wisdom could be exported to the European Union/imported by member
countries duty free, while bananas produced in other countries were still being taxed to a significant
degree (though the taxation amounts were now standardized across the entire European Union)
(Patterson, 2001). Despite the justification of the duty free imports from certain countries as a means
of encouraging and assisting the development of countries that had been potentially held back or
damaged by European colonization, and thus the lack of taxation serving as a sort of reparations,
many other nations objected to this legislation as inherently unfair (Patterson, 2001). Not only was the
tariff imbalance seen as unfair, it was also illegal under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
(GATT), according to many nations. The United States raised formal objections to the European

Amazon throughout the years has expanded their facilities throughout the U.S and growing at a rapid
pace in rest of the world in the past five years. Amazon was able to develop business in the Midwest
as well as in the Southern State. One of their main focus is to build many headquarters and facilities
around the world mostly near large populated cities because it can be easier and quicker to distribute
them. Based on Amazon s Fulfillment Center Network it is mentioned that the largest amazon s
fulfillment center is located in 6835 West Buckeye Road, Phoenix, Arizona. The size of the facility is
1,009,400 square feet 2. Some of the large cities that is located near the facility are Mesa, Tucson,

in Arizona is the fact that it is a highly competitive corporate headquarters for many business and is in
the top five largest cities in the United State. Moreover, in the past years technology has penetrated
industries and without no doubt in couple year s automation would be replacing humans as it is seen
as a competitive advantage. Even though, automation is setting the standards for many businesses and

School officials are given a wide latitude to conduct search and seizures, as compared normal citizens.
The 5th Amendment dictates that, the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers,
and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated (U.S. Const. amend. IV).
Thusly, individuals have a fundamental right to privacy. In normal society law enforcement officers

What Makes A Word Essay
Posted 30/05/2015 by Iain Campbell
What Makes a Word, a Word?
If a new word or neologism is not created by a lexicographer (the person who compiles a dictionary),
or any individual, then who decides what words will be a part of the English language? The speakers
of the language are who choose what words are used and which are not. It s the day to day users of the
language introducing and maintaining words, this is what evolves and shapes the way the English
language is spoken and understood by the people who use it.
There are a number ways in which a new word can be introduced into any given language, in this post
I will focus on the English language and the techniques commonly used to make new words in the
language. Not only does a word need to be created to be part of a language but it needs to be used as
part of the language regularly to be well recognised and accepted by the speakers, and there for an
official word in the language.
Shared Words
The first way a word can be made is through a different language sharing or donating a word with
another language or country. An English example of this technique would be the word ninja which
English speakers took from the Japanese and now is sometimes recognised as an English word. Once
the word is taken from a language the pronunciation and origins of the word become lost with time
and people can forget or are not able to tell that the word has foreign origins. Similarly Caramel is
stolen from another language and

Implementation Plan For Students For Stress And Anxiety Essay
Implementation Plan
In June 2017, Youth Uprising will create a district wide policy with Alameda County to screen all A.A.
students for stress and anxiety (See Appendix A). Starting July 2017, Beauty in the Process program
will be the result of the new district wide policy in Alameda County (See Appendix A). This will be a
pilot program for one year at Lincoln Middle School in Alameda, California. Volunteers will be
recruited from the school s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and in return each volunteer, up to six
persons, will receive a school supply grant for $500. Youth UpRising will provide a program
coordinator, certified health educator, social worker and guidance counselor from the organization s
program to make the recruitment processes easier.
The program will partner with Flying Yoga Studios in Alameda, since they already have experience
teaching yoga and meditation to younger children. The partnership will give student yoga instructors
more community hours while assisting a certified yoga instructor. This will ensure students get more
attention during sessions with two paid yoga instructors plus additional student instructors. Volunteers
will then be fingerprinted and background checked. Art instructor will be recruited through the
Alameda County Department of Education to hire an art instructor with teaching credentials.

Earl Warren s Due Process Model
Since the year 1953 until the year 1969, Earl Warren served as the fourteenth chief justice of the

Chief Justice Earl Warren used the Due Process Model in order to make his decisions on these very

The Top Three Brands Of Virtualization Software
Virtualization is a combination of software and hardware engineering that creates Virtual Machines
(VMs) an abstraction of the computer hardware that allows a single machine to act as if it were many
machines, or a computer that does not physically exist as a piece of hardware. The hardware that is
seen by the operating system is emulated in an effort to separate the physical hardware from operating
system. This allows the virtual machine to be moved and hosted on any machine independent of
hardware. Virtualization technology is possibly the single most important issue in IT and has started a
top to bottom overhaul of the computing industry which is why many companies around the world
have are using its softwares to enhance their business opportunities. There are many virtualization
software programs such as IBM PowerVM, Microsoft Hyper V, VMware, Oracle Solaris, Citrix,
XenServer, and KVM. However, based on the information I have read so far, I believe that the top
three brands of virtualization software are Citrix XenServer, Oracle VM Server and KVM. Oracle VM

VM Server is widely used by big enterprises whereas Citrix XenServer and KVM are used by small to

My Long Term Educational And Professional Goals
When beginning the psychology major, I was unsure of what my long term educational and
professional goals were. Now that I am in my senior year, I am still not positive about my path overall
path. However, I do have a plan that I feel will work perfect for me. I am reaching a time in my life
where I will be financial stable, be married, have a partner to share responsibilities, and have the
knowledge to be the best parent possible. I think it is important for one parent to be home before the
children enter preschool. Once the children are entered in school, I feel it would be a good time for me
to either go back to school or choose a career I can achieve with my bachelor s degree. If I were to go
back to school, it would most likely be to obtain a master s degree for counseling. I am very interested
in Central Washington University s Master Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. In ten years, if I
complete my masters, I see myself working with families, children or adolescents. This might be
either in an office setting or school setting. I know that I would not want to go to the client s home as
the primary setting.
There are several ways in which the courses I have taken at Central Washington University have

took a look at the other pieces that she had already received and i was amazed. Klaude s piece was by
far the my favourite. I then got to brainstorming ideas on how I can implicate wildlife animals into my

I would draw out the silhouettes of 4 Different animals and use different colors for each of the
canvases. I then ran across another problem, what animals could I draw and what colors should I use
to paint. I started to use the original sketches I had, a wolf and a deer, and started painting while also
mixing together colors that i thought would catch the viewer s eye ; and because i was fairly low on
paint, i had to use some of the paint from the painting of the wolf silhouette on the painting of the deer
silhouette. After I did the two paintings, I knew it wasn t finished. The two canvases I painted looked
too lonely. I needed to paint at least two more but i was stuck, staring at an empty canvas that was
waiting to be filled with colors. I started to sketch out an elephant, the main focus of this whole
project, and started to paint with more vivid and brilliant colors that caught my eye while i was mixing
paints. As I was painting the elephant I realized that elephants aren t the only wild animal who is being
poached for their horns. In the middle of

AN INVESTIGATION TO FIND THE EFFECT OF BILE SALTS OF ON THE DIGESTION OF
LIPIDS
I have investigated that if there is an effect of bile salts on the digestion of lipids in the milk. When
lipids are broken down in to fatty acids and glycerol (see below), the acid lowers the pH of the
mixture. To help me determine and measure the digestion of lipids, a pH indicator phenolphthalein has
been used to measure the pH of the mixtures. The pH indicator will change the colour from pink to
either white (if bile is not contained) or brown (if bile is contained), this will indicate that the solution
is changing from alkaline to acidic. So if I want to use phenolphthalein, I will have to firstly make the
mixtures alkaline. This will be achieved by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On The Great Mughal Era
INTRODUCTION
The Indian subcontinent experienced a huge shift in the economical and social conditions with the
advent of the first Mughal emperor, Babar. Babar introduced reforms of which the natives were not
used to. His successors continued the same policies, with each implementing his own will. This report
is targeted on the social and economical reforms each of the great Mughal brought. Each period is
unique in its own sense.
AKBAR (11 February 1556 27 October 1605)
Social Reforms
Akbar s reign is considered as one the most progressive and productive reigns of the great Mughals.
Akbar s reign significantly influenced the course of Indian history. During his rule, the Mughal
Empire tripled in size and wealth. His period is noted not only for the developments and reforms that
he introduced but also for the flourishment in the arts and architecture. We also come to see that there
is huge turn in the religious conditions (Deen e Ilahi). Through the analysis of socio economic ...

A Brief Overview of Porn and the 20th Century
Porn and technology:
Pornography has, more than any other type of media, been on the bleeding edge of technology.
Pushing new mediums to their limit, usually in the last way they were ever intended to be used (Gross,
2010). We start off the 20th Century with the Half tone printing process being only two decades old.
This was the first process that allowed images to be inexpensively reproduced. Magazines were the
leading pornographic medium, and they were only available by mail. Then, with the advent of film,
the Stag films were first produced in Germany and Latin America. With the arrival of do it yourself
film equipment in the 1940 s anyone could make a film. The problem was it required a lab to make
mass copies, and since porn was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept was later perfected with webcams and credit cards, giving the user full control over a

Accepting Porn: Since the accidental discovery of the first pornography at Pompii in 1592 porn has
had a bad reputation. It is a Victorian word first defined by Webster as Licentious painting or literature
. From its very beginning pornography was outlawed and banned from the public. In the beginning of
the 20th century one could be jailed for even viewing a stag film. This may of hurt the quality of porn
but it the principal of supply and demand stayed intact, and there was always an overwhelming
demand. The way that demand has been supplied has changed drastically throughout the 20th century.
Porn went from socially unacceptable to a social phenomenon. Public opinion, slowly, overturned
government rule. The main reason porn became more acceptable was because masturbation became
more socially acceptable (Paul, 2005). In the early 1900 s we see masturbation as an act someone took
shame in, because it meant that person didn t have anyone to have sex with. In modern times
masturbation is said to be healthy by health care professionals and although it is not spoken of often, it
is accepted. When porn was first discovered by the Victorians within the Roman ruins of Pompii there
was a major fear that the lower educated, working class would do nothing all day but sit at home and

Frankenstein Ignorance Is Bliss Quotes
Ignorance Is Bliss Knowledge, a characteristic all people seek and one that provides more power than
any army could provide, can be rewarding and enlightening; however, it can be disastrous as well. In
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the main character Victor Frankenstein learns how knowledge can lead
to dangerous inventions. Victor creates a creature assembled from scavenged human parts; however,
upon seeing how hideous its appearance is, he flees which leaves the monster shunned by the rest of
society. The creature, tortured by solitude, begins to kill Victor s friends and family after Victor
refuses to create a companion for him and the two end up dying lonely. Knowledge can be a powerful

for in the world. Near the end of his life, Victor gives Walton some final words of advice saying, Seek
happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition, even if it be only the apparently innocent one of
distinguishing yourself in science and discoveries (162). Victor realizes his life has been ruined
because of his scientific ambition, and he also acknowledges that the sins of his past will continue to
haunt him. In the end, the creature causes Victor s death just as the creature killed his family and
friends; therefore, Victor neglects his health and travels to harsh environments to catch the monster
ending in his own demise. It is knowledge that causes Victor to gain dangerous ambition, the ambition
that causes him to undertake the immoral and laborious task of creating life. The creature ends up
ruining Victor s life, and he has only the knowledge he pursued to blame for that. Victor used his
enormous range of knowledge for this shady invention; however, he could have used it to benefit
mankind. Knowledge causes Victor to become ambitious, and it is this ambition that leads to his
solitude, sadness, and eventual death. Knowledge can be beneficial; however, it can also be

Example Of Superstition
TEXT OF SUPERSTITION
The superstition that I am going to tell you is a really common Malay s superstition that has been
passed down to me since I was a kid. I think you are already familiar with it because I always said this
to you when you were a kid, to make sure you returned home before sunset after spending hours
playing with your friends. During Maghrib (after sunset), Muslim kids are not allowed to play outside
their house, or a scary ghost will kidnap them . Your grandparents introduced this to me when I was
about 6 years old. They told this superstition to me every time before I went out and play with my
friends. People who live in villages are great believers in ghost and spirits. I was raised in a village
setting, so I grew up hearing a lot of stories about ghosts, spirits and black magic. This superstition is
related to ghosts, so it makes me scared, as I believe that there were really a ghost that trying to kidnap
me if I return home after sunset. Malays also believe that there are lots of spirits, Satan and ghosts
wandering around after sunset. That is why many elders, including your grandparents, tell this
superstition to make sure their kids return home early. They scared the ghosts will possess their kids.
But when I grew up, I do not believe in those supernatural things anymore. I used and told you this
superstition just to make sure you returned home early and performed your prayer on time. I do not
think that many people believe in this superstition

Colossian Epistle To The Church In Colossae
The epistle to the church in Colossae was written by Paul during his incarceration at Rome in A.D. 60.
Many years after the establishment of the church, Epaphras travels to Rome to visit Paul and bring
some good news of the Colossian congregation. But the main purpose of his visit is to request Paul s
help against the heresies that were tearing at the core of the Colossian church. Paul s letter to the
Colossians not only exhorts and cautions, but primarily focuses on the supremacy of Christ and the
power of the gospel message (Elwell and Yarbrough 301).
Paul begins his Colossians epistle by expressing his interest in the church. He had never had a chance
to visit Colossae, for this community of faith was the result of his nearby ministry in Ephesus. Paul
speaks of gratitude for the faith the Colossians have shown thus far, as we have heard of your faith in
Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints (English Standard Version, Col. 1.4). ...

false teachers, they are to understand who they are in Christ and experience the true freedom that
knowledge brings. Their sin debt has been paid by the work of Christ on the cross, and they are now
alive to God. He exhorts the Colossians to progress in faith, with the living Christ as their

1. The rib cage shields both the lungs and the heart from any danger. The skull also functions to
protect the brain from dangerous collisions. Another bone that helps protect an organ is the pelvic
girdle. It protects the bladder and several other organs from both the reproductive and urinary system.
2. An open fracture would affect the body s homeostasis more than a closed fracture because it breaks
through the skin. In a closed fracture, the body only worries about the fractured bone, but in an open
fracture, the body has to worry about both the fractured bone and the skin that was ripped. However,
both fractures can cause other body systems to go awry, but the open fracture causes more damage to
the body. 3. Doctors can treat broken bones

Unicorn Tapestry Research Papers
The Hunt of the Unicorn (1495 1505), also know as The Unicorn Tapestry, is a series of seven
tapestries depicting the hunt, capture, and killing of a unicorn. Because each tapestry is different their
size varies, ranging from 368 x 378 cm. to 368 x 261 cm. Through out the series of tapestries, the
colors of the tapestry are vivid and rich despite their age. Woven from silk and metallic threads, the
colors range from blood red to hunter green to pale blue and ivory. No space is wasted or devoid of
embellishment. Vegetation surrounds the figures of animals and humans alike, reaching to the ends of
the fabric. No matter the conflicting seasonality of the fruit or flower, every plant and tree is seen at
their peek, in full bloom. The men of hunting party are dressed in their finest clothes, perhaps
unsuitable for the task at hand. The dogs are shown in vigorous action leaping at or away from the
unicorn, and are always seen frozen in a moment of activity. The seven tapestries are displayed in a
specific order: The Start of the Hunt, The Unicorn at the Fountain (fig. 1), The Unicorn Tries to

Examples Of Critical Discourse Analysis
CHAPTER 2
THEORITICAL FOUNDATION
2.1 Critical Discourse Analysis
To understand the concept of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), it is necessary to see how CDA
defines discourse. Discourse is not simply an isolated textual or dialogical structure (van Dijk, 1988).
It is seen as socially constructed ways that do not only shape but also enable (social) reality (Foucault,
1977; Paltridge, 2006). It involves a dialectical relationship between a particular discursive event and
the situation(s), institution(s), and social structure(s) which frame it (Fairclough Wodak, 1997, p. 258).
It also helps to establish power relations between social classes, gender, or majorities and minorities
groups (Wodak Meyer, 2009). Therefore, CDA acts as an approach that critically investigates the
relationship between discourse and the reproduction of power in social practices and interactions
(Fairclough, 1995 as cited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, one of the distinguishing features of DHA is its interdisciplinary method that considers a
variety of different empirical data and background information (Reisigl Wodak, 2001).
The historical dimension is realized by collecting all information regarding the historical background
and the original sources of the object under investigation and exploring diachronic change
(Matouschek et al. 1995; Wodak et al., 1990, 1994 as cited in van Leeuwen Wodak, 1999).
Specifically, the process of analysis in DHA starts by describing the phenomena occurred in texts.
Then, describing the apparent changes. Finally, discussing the result to find how and why change
occurs since the purpose of DHA is to uncover the ideology in diachronic texts (Slavícková,

Embryonic vs. Adult Stem Cells in Research Essay
Embryonic vs. Adult Stem Cells in Research
Why is the mainstream media significantly downplaying exciting scientific discoveries with adult
stem cells? This essay hopes to adequately answer that question.
Here s the scoop: As originally reported late last year in the medical journal Blood, Dr. Catherine M.
Verfaillie and other researchers at the Stem Cell Institute, University of Minnesota, have discovered a
way to coax an adult cell found in the bone marrow to exhibit many of the attributes that supposedly
make embryonic stem cells irreplaceable to the development future miracle medical
therapies(Catherine).

Yet, when the potentially crucial discovery of an adult cell that could make embryonic destruction and
therapeutic cloning unnecessary comes to light and just at the time when the United States Senate is
about to argue whether to outlaw the cloning of human embryos the story has been significantly
underplayed.
The New York Times story written by Nicholas Wade with Sheryl Gay Stolberg ran deep inside the
paper (page A14), under the headline, Scientists Herald a Versatile Adult Cell. (New) While the Times
headline and reporting focused upon the actual story, it failed to provide many of the significant
details found in the Boston Globe reporting, and as a result, the story lost much of its punch.
The Washington Post smothered the importance of the story altogether in a story bylined by Rick
Weiss that ran on page A 8. Headlined, In Senate, Findings Intensify Arguments on Human Cloning,
the actual discovery itself is barely described. The first mention of it comes in the fourth paragraph,
which focuses primarily on a statement by Verfaillie downplaying her own discovery so as not to
interfere with the pro cloning and ESCR research agenda. Indeed, the primary thrust of the Post
reportage focuses on the reasons why this discovery should not deter destructive embryonic research.
The story was also covered by relative brief wire service reports and in a much better story in New
Scientist magazine(New). In any event, with such muffled coverage, it is

Psychiatric Inpatient Treatment Of Depression Essay
INTRODUCTION According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 8% of persons over
the age of twelve reports being currently depressed, this includes 6% of the male population (2014).
This literature also reports males aged forty to fifty nine having higher rates of depression (7%), when
compared to males sixty years or older (5%) (2014). In 2010 there were 63.3 million visits to primary
care physicians, hospital outpatient units and emergency rooms attributed to mental health diagnosis
(CDC, 2014). In the same year, there were 395,000 psychiatric inpatient discharges with major
depressive disorder as the primary diagnosis. These individuals had an average stay of six and a half
days (CDC, 2014). Inpatient and outpatient treatment is seemingly a revolving door. One article
examines the growing number of people being diagnosed with depression, yet the declining number of
people seeking outpatient care. This article reports 2.88 out of 100 people seek outpatient treatment
for their depression (ScienceDaily, 2010). It is imperative for practitioners of group practice to
understand that men and women experience depression differently and to then formulate treatment
based on the individual s unique needs (NIH, 2014). INPATIENT GROUP THERAPY Psychiatric
inpatient group therapy is not a new concept, having presence in inpatient culture for over eighty
years. Inpatient group therapy has many unique purposes. For example, there are several group
treatment goals. These

Chris Mccandless Analysis
Chris Mccandless was a man that many would call crazy or maybe even immoral. He left everything
to live in the wild and become one with nature . He had determination, a strong mindset, fearlessness
and courage. I believe that my life and the life of Chris Mccandless are not similar in any aspect. In
fact I wish that my life was more like his and that I had the drive and determination to do what he did.
Christopher Mccandless left everything he had to follow his dream. Honestly though what strikes me
as the most important thing he did was his strive for independence. Chris wanted to be free of his
family, his education, and free of his past life. What he did that makes me wish I could be more like
him though was his courage to not only attempt to be independent but his stubbornness to see it
through. When he decided he wanted to do something it wasn t a question of how should I do this or
should I do this, It was what can I do to make this happen now? Instead of keeping his money and his
name, he donned a new name and burned his money. Many would call this immoral and stupid, but in
actuality it was just a step in the process of becoming a new person and shedding all the layers of his
past life.
When Chris left he didn t tell anyone where he was going and he didn t keep any ties with his family.
What I m trying to say here is that not only do I admire him for his determination and stubborness of
will, I understand why he did what he did. Chris had recently found out about

The Use of Propaganda to Mobilise the Minds of the Nation...
The Use of Propaganda to Mobilise the Minds of the Nation Toward War
Propaganda is defined as a specific type of message presentation aimed at serving an agenda. At its
root, the denotation of propaganda is to propagate (actively spread) a philosophy or point of view .
The most common use of the term historically is in political contexts; in particular to refer to certain
efforts sponsored by governments or political groups. Advertising, religious preaching, etc. are also
propaganda, as well as, in today s world, TV talk shows.

An example of this is Lord Beaverbrook the Daily Express owner, was a cabinet minister from 1916
and became Minister for Information in 1918. He and other newspaper barons were important in
Britain s war effort, which was shown when twelve leading newspaper industry members were
knighted in recognition of their wartime services.
Letters and postcards sent to and from soldiers in the front were heavily censored. The government did
not want morale to drop on the front line or back at home. Moreover, there is much evidence to show
that soldier s censored their own messages to their family and friends, by not revealing the truth about
life in the trenches or their own distressing feelings about fighting the war and being stuck out in the
war. Pictures of dead soldiers were not allowed, casualty figures were not released and often
parliament was not told how the war was really going.
There were some independent papers that produced less biased news, sometimes even anti war
articles. Pacifist papers like Tribunal were put up with at first, but when war weariness set in the
government was quick to close them. Socialist papers, like The Herald, were closely monitored It was

Coppola s Interpretation of Dracula as a Love Story Essay
Coppola s Interpretation of Dracula as a Love Story
The protagonist and story of Bram Stoker s novel Dracula have been widely interpreted and adapted in
films throughout many years. Despite almost a century of time since the initial publication, Dracula
has maintained its ability to frighten and mesmerize readers. Francis Ford Coppola s Bram Stoker s
Dracula; however, utilizes the erotic romance of the original novel in order to depict a tragic love
story. The film accurately follows the general plot of the novel, yet presents the characters in a unique
manner that provides for a different appreciation of the characters.

This characterization of Dracula as a devoted lover was the dominant goal of Francis Ford Coppola.
James Holte states that in Bram Stoker s Dracula: The Film and the Legend, Coppola writes
Doing Justice to the complex character of Dracula was one our main goals. He s been portrayed as a
monster or as a seducer, but knowing his biography made me think of him as a fallen angel, as Satan...
Blood is the symbol of human passion, the source of all passion. I think that is the main subtext in our
story. We ve tried to depict feelings so strong they can survive across the centuries, like Dracula s love
for Mina/ Elizabeth. The idea that love can actually give back to the vampire his lost soul (Holte 82).
This portrayal of Dracula as a complex character is the basis for the differences in the presentation
between Stoker s original villain and Coppola s adaptation.
Because Coppola wanted to show Dracula more as a fallen angel equal to Satan in Milton s Paradise
Lost, the main result is pity for this representative of evil. This presentation is different from the
original novel because it lacks the balance between the reader s like and dislike of Dracula throughout
the story. In the film, the audience tends to feel sympathetic for Dracula as he struggles to find his
love. There at two moments in the movie where Dracula

  • 2. Educational Facilities For New Building Code Regulations Educational facilities designed and built between 1950 and 1970 have come to a point in their building s life cycle that it is time for them to retire. These schools are no longer viable to keep running because of the financial strain to upgrade to new building code regulations. This means a flux of education construction is upon us. This also means that these schools, unless they are private, will be given a bond issue awarded by the state. Traditionally, schools are one of the tightest budgets to work with because they need to get the most for their money. One mindset that will save the owner money in the long term is thinking about life cycle cost and maintenance. One of the biggest issues with any new construction is the maintenance cost of running the building years after completion. Now this could mean many things from the HVAC to the paint on the walls. In schools, the interior finishes are not changed very often; therefore, need special attention. Today interior finishes are being selected more carefully in order to save money on maintenance cost, longevity, and durability. A big maintenance cost to schools is the flooring. Traditionally, schools have chosen vinyl composition tile, or VCT, for the majority of the flooring. When the schools were built sixty years ago this was the best option for longevity. Today that is not the case. In fact VCT flooring is no longer financially or ecologically efficient for the progressive future of educational facilities. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Definitions Of The First Vatican Council The task of the first Vatican Council is clearly defined in the following declaration at the opening of the Council: The Holy Catholic Apostolic Roman Church believes and confesses that there is one true and living God, Creator and Lord of heaven and earth, Almighty, Eternal, Immense, Incomprehensible, Infinite in intelligence, in will, and in all perfection, who, as being one, sole, absolutely simple and immutable spiritual substance, is to be declared as really and essentially distinct from the world, of supreme beatitude in and from Himself, and ineffably exalted above all things which exist, or are conceivable, except Himself . The opening statement at the Second Vatican Council declares: It is clear, therefore, that sacred tradition, Sacred Scripture and the teaching authority of the Church, in accord with God s most wise design, are so linked and joined together that one cannot stand without the others, and that all together and each in its own way under the action of the one Holy Spirit contribute effectively to the salvation of souls. Both declarations define with great clarity what each Council set out as the unique task and aims they desire to achieve. They declare one faith but with different goals and objectives, similar and dissimilar. The Second Vatican Council s methodology towards originality was similar to that of the First Vatican Council. The theological declarations of each council were deeply predisposed by the socio political background during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Write A Narrative Essay About Moving To Suburbss It wasn t easy at first for Ludi to move to suburbs. The first time she heard a proposal from her husband, Trevor, she was strictly against it. Being born and brought up in the city and now a sudden shift to suburbs seemed something she can t get used to. A super fast life in the city versus a relaxing life in suburbs were two different things according to her. It was bad enough that she was a housewife; in the city, her time passed by pretty quickly doing the chores and going out and about. Though, in the suburbs, her list of chores fell short. She found more time on her hand even after finishing her daily activities. He said it was for a better future and being the lovely wife, she agreed moving to the suburbs. She pushed the tiny curtain to peek out of the small window next to the door, to see who it was and found a well dressed man who seemed as if he was here to sell something to her. She unlocked her door and opened it, seeming hesitant and giving him an unpleasant gaze, showing she wasn t interested in what he was selling, May I help you? She said flicking her hair over her shoulders. Now, she stood tall at 5ft 7 inches but he seemed to just tower over her as she had to tilt her head back to look up at ... • 6. Reasons for the U.S. Turning to Imperialism at the End of... Essay Question: Why did the U.S. turn to Imperialism at the end of the 19th century? Imperialism is the creation and maintenance of an unequal economic, cultural, and territorial relationship, usually between states and often in the form of an empire, based on domination and subordination. (Johnston 375) By the 1890s, many Americans leaders started to have new attitude towards imperialistic adventures abroad. There were numerous reasons for the U.S. to turn to Imperialism at the end of the 19th century, mainly the economic, political, strategic, and humanitarian motives. Various industrialists as well as investors including bankers and the new wealthy class feared that the United States would soon produce more than it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An initial indication for American attitudes toward the use of force abroad was demonstrated in Hawaii. In 1893, encouraged by the Harrison administration and assisted by the U.S. Marines from the cruiser Boston, pro American sugar planter overthrew Queen Liliuokalani and requested the annexation of Hawaii by the U.S. After that, President Grover Cleveland sent a commission to Hawaii to determine the wishes of the Hawaiian citizens concerning their future, Last but not least, the idea of racial superiority from Social Darwinism and, ironically, the moral responsibility to civilize and uplift the inferior races of Africa and Asia accounted for the increased American interest in foreign frontiers in the 1890s. In his book Our Country, Josiah Strong stated that God had appointed Anglo Saxons to be their brother s keeper. Furthermore, Kipling bolstered the idea of the White Man s Burden , the duty of white people to help and educate people who lived in undeveloped civilization . Senator Albert J. Beveridge of Indiana also suggested that the opening of the frontier would free the American spirit. Right before the Spanish American War or the Cuban War for Independence 1898, American public opinion was heavily influence by the Yellow Press . Sensationalized stories about butcher Weyler and the horrendous human conditions in concentration camps were published and spread throughout the U.S. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By becoming King, he is engulfed with power, but he was never happy about the position he held. The guilt of taking King Duncan s power has to lead him to be unsatisfied with his wealth since he didn t truly deserve it. His ambition for the gain of power prevailed when he decided to murder King Duncan causing him to be more ambitious for power in the form of killing. By seeing the ghost of Banquo and hiding the death of King Duncan makes Macbeth mentally unstable and causes him to make irrational acts of killing and decision making, such as to kill Macduff s family solely on the reason that he s afraid of Macduff. Both Lady Macbeth and the Witches try to control Macbeth through persuasion, prophecies, and apparitions lead to Macbeth being unsatisfied with his doings and his murders because Macbeth believes that there is always more power to gain from killing. Shinto is a general term for the activities of the people of Japanese descent to worship all the deities of heaven and earth, and at the end of the 6th century the Japanese were conscious of these activities and called them the Way of Kami (the deity or the deities) . In this Haraekotoba, which was chanted for a purification ceremony at that time and is still chanted, the sins are listed and they are categorized into two: Amatsu Tsumi and Kunitsu Tsumi. At this time, Ritsu (or the criminal law) were established under the influence of the Chinese Law of the Tang Age. It is convenient to see these laws in order to look at the Shinto concept of the sin and those sins, which were prohibited by the secular laws. The gravest sin called Amatsu Tusmi described in the Oharae is those deeds, which were committed by Susanowo no Mikoto, the brother deity of Amaterasu Ohmikami, the supreme Kami. According to the myth, he was so rejoiced by being able to prove that he had no ill feeling against his sister deity, Amaterasu Ohmikami, that he committed vulgarity such as destroying the paddy fields of Amaterasu Ohmikami to have crop for Niinamesai (Rice crop rite), the weaving shop where the cloths for the deities were woven and also several other violent mischievous deeds. It means that all these deeds were against divine festivals. It is described in the myth that because of these vulgarities, a part of Susanowo s assets was taken away from him and purged from Heaven. • 10. Symbolism In The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls By Henry... Henry Longfellow and John Whitter both used symbolism to juristically make their writing more appealing and full of elements. For Longfellow it was The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls ..In the poem, The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls , the theme to me is surrounded around the fact of life goes on. The rise and fall of the tides in the ocean represent the way life is a roller coaster and it goes up and down and never slows down. An example to relate to the theme is when Longfellow says The day returns, but nevermore Returns the traveller to the shore, and the tide rises, the tide falls. While he claims this it supports the fact that this is about life changing, it supports it because once the day comes to an end, and the traveller (person living life) is at rest from a long day, the tide rises and falls. In other ways, life still goes on. Now as for John Whitter s poem, Snowbound, I believe the theme for this piece of literature is overcoming the odds. The setting I thought of was in a little cabin that was trying its best to stand tall through a harsh winter storm. The heat in doors was limited and the family inside was just trying to make it through what seemed like a never ending storm. In the poem one line that caught my eye about them overcoming the odds was We watched the first red blaze appear, Heard the sharp crackle, caught the gleam, On whitewashed wall and sagging beam, . While he claims this is supports the fact that this is about how regardless of the situation, no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The EU Banana Trade Dispute The EU Banana Dispute Until the implementation of an EU wide banana trade regime that went into effect in the summer of 1993, each of the then twelve member countries of the European Union had their own system of tariffs (or lack of tariffs) for incoming agricultural products, including bananas (Patterson, 2001). After the relevant legislation was enacted, however, bananas from certain countries known as ACP countries developing countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific that were by and large former colonies of European Union member states and were in need of trade assistance according to the prevailing wisdom could be exported to the European Union/imported by member countries duty free, while bananas produced in other countries were still being taxed to a significant degree (though the taxation amounts were now standardized across the entire European Union) (Patterson, 2001). Despite the justification of the duty free imports from certain countries as a means of encouraging and assisting the development of countries that had been potentially held back or damaged by European colonization, and thus the lack of taxation serving as a sort of reparations, many other nations objected to this legislation as inherently unfair (Patterson, 2001). Not only was the tariff imbalance seen as unfair, it was also illegal under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), according to many nations. The United States raised formal objections to the European Union s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Amazon was able to develop business in the Midwest as well as in the Southern State. One of their main focus is to build many headquarters and facilities around the world mostly near large populated cities because it can be easier and quicker to distribute them. Based on Amazon s Fulfillment Center Network it is mentioned that the largest amazon s fulfillment center is located in 6835 West Buckeye Road, Phoenix, Arizona. The size of the facility is 1,009,400 square feet 2. Some of the large cities that is located near the facility are Mesa, Tucson, Chandler, Glendale, and Scottsdale. One of the main reason why Amazon plan to build more facilities in Arizona is the fact that it is a highly competitive corporate headquarters for many business and is in the top five largest cities in the United State. Moreover, in the past years technology has penetrated industries and without no doubt in couple year s automation would be replacing humans as it is seen as a competitive advantage. Even though, automation is setting the standards for many businesses and a highly competitive factor in today s industries, there are many advantages of automation taking over the workforce as well as disadvantages. It is used to complete a task faster, cheaper, and with a greater accuracy. The first advantage is that with automation is the reduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 5th Amendment dictates that, the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated (U.S. Const. amend. • 14. What Makes A Word Essay Posted 30/05/2015 by Iain Campbell What Makes a Word, a Word? If a new word or neologism is not created by a lexicographer (the person who compiles a dictionary), or any individual, then who decides what words will be a part of the English language? The speakers of the language are who choose what words are used and which are not. It s the day to day users of the language introducing and maintaining words, this is what evolves and shapes the way the English language is spoken and understood by the people who use it. There are a number ways in which a new word can be introduced into any given language, in this post I will focus on the English language and the techniques commonly used to make new words in the language. Not only does a word need to be created to be part of a language but it needs to be used as part of the language regularly to be well recognised and accepted by the speakers, and there for an official word in the language. Shared Words The first way a word can be made is through a different language sharing or donating a word with another language or country. An English example of this technique would be the word ninja which English speakers took from the Japanese and now is sometimes recognised as an English word. Once the word is taken from a language the pronunciation and origins of the word become lost with time and people can forget or are not able to tell that the word has foreign origins. Similarly Caramel is stolen from another language and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Top Three Brands Of Virtualization Software Virtualization is a combination of software and hardware engineering that creates Virtual Machines (VMs) an abstraction of the computer hardware that allows a single machine to act as if it were many machines, or a computer that does not physically exist as a piece of hardware. The hardware that is seen by the operating system is emulated in an effort to separate the physical hardware from operating system. This allows the virtual machine to be moved and hosted on any machine independent of hardware. Virtualization technology is possibly the single most important issue in IT and has started a top to bottom overhaul of the computing industry which is why many companies around the world have are using its softwares to enhance their business opportunities. Oracle VM Server for x86 and KVM are open source however, Citrix XenServer is proprietary in nature. Oracle VM Server is widely used by big enterprises whereas Citrix XenServer and KVM are used by small to medium business and by individuals. In the beginning of the 20th century one could be jailed for even viewing a stag film. This may of hurt the quality of porn but it the principal of supply and demand stayed intact, and there was always an overwhelming demand. The way that demand has been supplied has changed drastically throughout the 20th century. Porn went from socially unacceptable to a social phenomenon. Public opinion, slowly, overturned government rule. The main reason porn became more acceptable was because masturbation became more socially acceptable (Paul, 2005). In the early 1900 s we see masturbation as an act someone took shame in, because it meant that person didn t have anyone to have sex with. In modern times masturbation is said to be healthy by health care professionals and although it is not spoken of often, it is accepted. • 34. Examples Of Critical Discourse Analysis CHAPTER 2 THEORITICAL FOUNDATION 2.1 Critical Discourse Analysis To understand the concept of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), it is necessary to see how CDA defines discourse. Discourse is not simply an isolated textual or dialogical structure (van Dijk, 1988). It is seen as socially constructed ways that do not only shape but also enable (social) reality (Foucault, 1977; Paltridge, 2006). It involves a dialectical relationship between a particular discursive event and the situation(s), institution(s), and social structure(s) which frame it (Fairclough Wodak, 1997, p. 258). It also helps to establish power relations between social classes, gender, or majorities and minorities groups (Wodak Meyer, 2009). Therefore, CDA acts as an approach that critically investigates the relationship between discourse and the reproduction of power in social practices and interactions (Fairclough, 1995 as cited ... (New) While the Times headline and reporting focused upon the actual story, it failed to provide many of the significant details found in the Boston Globe reporting, and as a result, the story lost much of its punch. The Washington Post smothered the importance of the story altogether in a story bylined by Rick Weiss that ran on page A 8. Indeed, the primary thrust of the Post reportage focuses on the reasons why this discovery should not deter destructive embryonic research. The story was also covered by relative brief wire service reports and in a much better story in New Scientist magazine(New). In any event, with such muffled coverage, it is ... • 36. Psychiatric Inpatient Treatment Of Depression Essay INTRODUCTION According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 8% of persons over the age of twelve reports being currently depressed, this includes 6% of the male population (2014). This literature also reports males aged forty to fifty nine having higher rates of depression (7%), when compared to males sixty years or older (5%) (2014). In 2010 there were 63.3 million visits to primary care physicians, hospital outpatient units and emergency rooms attributed to mental health diagnosis (CDC, 2014). In the same year, there were 395,000 psychiatric inpatient discharges with major depressive disorder as the primary diagnosis. These individuals had an average stay of six and a half days (CDC, 2014). Inpatient and outpatient treatment is seemingly a revolving door. One article examines the growing number of people being diagnosed with depression, yet the declining number of people seeking outpatient care. This article reports 2.88 out of 100 people seek outpatient treatment for their depression (ScienceDaily, 2010). It is imperative for practitioners of group practice to understand that men and women experience depression differently and to then formulate treatment based on the individual s unique needs (NIH, 2014). INPATIENT GROUP THERAPY Psychiatric inpatient group therapy is not a new concept, having presence in inpatient culture for over eighty years. Inpatient group therapy has many unique purposes. For example, there are several group treatment goals. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Chris Mccandless Analysis Chris Mccandless was a man that many would call crazy or maybe even immoral. He left everything to live in the wild and become one with nature . He had determination, a strong mindset, fearlessness and courage. I believe that my life and the life of Chris Mccandless are not similar in any aspect. In fact I wish that my life was more like his and that I had the drive and determination to do what he did. Christopher Mccandless left everything he had to follow his dream. Honestly though what strikes me as the most important thing he did was his strive for independence. Chris wanted to be free of his family, his education, and free of his past life. What he did that makes me wish I could be more like him though was his courage to not only attempt to be independent but his stubbornness to see it through. When he decided he wanted to do something it wasn t a question of how should I do this or should I do this, It was what can I do to make this happen now? Instead of keeping his money and his name, he donned a new name and burned his money. Many would call this immoral and stupid, but in actuality it was just a step in the process of becoming a new person and shedding all the layers of his past life. When Chris left he didn t tell anyone where he was going and he didn t keep any ties with his family. What I m trying to say here is that not only do I admire him for his determination and stubborness of will, I understand why he did what he did. Chris had recently found out about ... The Use of Propaganda to Mobilise the Minds of the Nation Toward War Propaganda is defined as a specific type of message presentation aimed at serving an agenda. At its root, the denotation of propaganda is to propagate (actively spread) a philosophy or point of view . The most common use of the term historically is in political contexts; in particular to refer to certain efforts sponsored by governments or political groups. Advertising, religious preaching, etc. are also propaganda, as well as, in today s world, TV talk shows. During World War 1 all types as propaganda was used to mobilise the minds of the nation towards war. They can be split into two groups: the state s propaganda ... He and other newspaper barons were important in Britain s war effort, which was shown when twelve leading newspaper industry members were knighted in recognition of their wartime services. Letters and postcards sent to and from soldiers in the front were heavily censored. The government did not want morale to drop on the front line or back at home. Moreover, there is much evidence to show that soldier s censored their own messages to their family and friends, by not revealing the truth about life in the trenches or their own distressing feelings about fighting the war and being stuck out in the war. Pictures of dead soldiers were not allowed, casualty figures were not released and often parliament was not told how the war was really going. There were some independent papers that produced less biased news, sometimes even anti war articles. Pacifist papers like Tribunal were put up with at first, but when war weariness set in the government was quick to close them. Socialist papers, like The Herald, were closely monitored It was mot just the people in Britain who were only allowed censored materials. The government was also concerned with sensitive information leaking out to the enemy. Even magazines for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Coppola s Interpretation of Dracula as a Love Story Essay Coppola s Interpretation of Dracula as a Love Story The protagonist and story of Bram Stoker s novel Dracula have been widely interpreted and adapted in films throughout many years. Despite almost a century of time since the initial publication, Dracula has maintained its ability to frighten and mesmerize readers. Francis Ford Coppola s Bram Stoker s Dracula; however, utilizes the erotic romance of the original novel in order to depict a tragic love story. The film accurately follows the general plot of the novel, yet presents the characters in a unique manner that provides for a different appreciation of the characters. Francis Ford Coppola s adaptation of Stoker s novel begins with the presentation of how Dracula ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This characterization of Dracula as a devoted lover was the dominant goal of Francis Ford Coppola. James Holte states that in Bram Stoker s Dracula: The Film and the Legend, Coppola writes Doing Justice to the complex character of Dracula was one our main goals. He s been portrayed as a monster or as a seducer, but knowing his biography made me think of him as a fallen angel, as Satan... Blood is the symbol of human passion, the source of all passion. I think that is the main subtext in our story. We ve tried to depict feelings so strong they can survive across the centuries, like Dracula s love for Mina/ Elizabeth. The idea that love can actually give back to the vampire his lost soul (Holte 82). This portrayal of Dracula as a complex character is the basis for the differences in the presentation between Stoker s original villain and Coppola s adaptation. Because Coppola wanted to show Dracula more as a fallen angel equal to Satan in Milton s Paradise Lost, the main result is pity for this representative of evil. This presentation is different from the original novel because it lacks the balance between the reader s like and dislike of Dracula throughout the story. In the film, the audience tends to feel sympathetic for Dracula as he struggles to find his love. There at two moments in the movie where Dracula ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
