Whether it be elite athletes or weekend warriors, all athletes have experienced muscle tightness that
impacted their athletic performance. I wanted to investigate whether instrument assisted soft tissue
mobilization (IASTM) was more effective at reducing hamstring muscle tightness than foam rolling
in high school athletes. Most high school athletes work very hard at practice and in the weight
room and therefore, hamstring muscle tightness is very common. I chose the high school
population because I want to work in the high school setting following graduation. I wanted to
investigate if IASTM techniques could be more effective in the high school to reduce lower
extremity muscle soreness than foam rolling. The case series by Baker, Nasypany, Seegmiller
Baker (2013) investigated the effectiveness of IASTM for treatment of hamstring tissue
extensibility dysfunction. Tissue extensibility dysfunction (TED) includes ROM limitations during
standing flexion test, sit and reach test, passive and active straight leg hip flexion and 90/90 active
knee extension test (Baker et.all). The participants in this study consisted of three collegiate athletes

Washington Irving is the author of the tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, that was written in the
nineteenth century (Baym 25). Irving was born in New York City on April 3rd, 1783 and was the
last of eleven children. At home, Irving read a wide range of English literature and delighted in
many other writers, including Shakespeare, Oliver Goldsmith, and Laurence Sterne. In 1830
Irving bought and began refurbishing a house along the Hudson River near Tarrytown (Baym 25).
The beginning of Irving s tale opens up with the description of the charming Hudson Valley region
of Sleepy Hollow near Tarrytown. The Legend of Sleepy Hollowrepresents a popular tale in Irving
s book The Sketch Book. It s ghostly tale that talks about a mysterious Headless Horseman that is
said to be a Hessian trooper who lost his head in battle. It is said that every night, the Headless

Many of the stories in Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri include a fundamental composition
of literary elements, such as conflict which readers see in both Interpreter of Maladies and A
Temporary Matter . Lahiri shows the difficulty of communication which overtime turn into the
destruction of the entire relationship. For instance, readers see difficulty in communication when
Shukumar and Shoba become distant shortly after she has a stillborn child. The death of their baby
has severe effects their entire relationship, and adds to their lack of communication. Similarly in

Taking a photograph of myself that signified something of what it means for me personally and
maybe other students like me to be a university student today does more than just record a moment

how we process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below
shows how these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and
