Mental Illness Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of mental illness can be a daunting task, as it requires a delicate
balance of empathy, research, and analytical skills. The complexity of the subject itself, coupled
with the sensitivity surrounding mental health issues, adds an extra layer of challenge to the
writing process. It necessitates a thorough understanding of various mental health conditions,
their causes, symptoms, and the impact they have on individuals and society.
Moreover, addressing mental illness in an essay requires a nuanced approach to avoid
stigmatization and misconceptions. It involves delving into the intricate interplay between
biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to the manifestation of mental health
disorders. The writer must navigate through a myriad of scientific studies, clinical findings, and
personal narratives to provide a comprehensive and accurate portrayal of the topic.
Creating a compelling mental illness essay also involves tackling the stigma associated with
mental health, advocating for awareness, and exploring potential solutions for improving mental
health care and support systems. It demands a level of sensitivity to the experiences of those
who have struggled with mental health challenges, as well as a commitment to promoting
understanding and empathy.
In conclusion, writing an essay on mental illness is a challenging endeavor that requires a careful
blend of empathy, research, and communication skills. It necessitates a deep understanding of
the subject matter and a commitment to addressing the complexities surrounding mental health
issues. As with any challenging task, seeking assistance and resources can be beneficial. If you

The Struggle for Human and Labor Rights in Guatemala
Essay
In a time where the United States was guarding against the spread of Communism to
Latin America, the workers of Guatemala faced a difficult time organizing to demand
benefits and rights from their employers. Among others that struggled to form
organized labor through the various repressive governments, the union at the Coca
Cola Bottling Plant in the capital city was one of the most successful. This success
can be attributed to the favorable rulings of Guatemalan labor courts, the tenacity of
the union s members, international support and the cooperation of the transnational
corporation of Coca Cola, headquartered in the United States. Embotelladora
Guatemalteca S.A. (EGSA), the Coca Cola franchise in Guatemala City, was filled

This however, did not stop the President of the company, Texan John Trotter, from
sending Boche Morales home after he heard about the union. Indignity from this
action immediately drew 167 more signatories to the pliego, 80% of the work
force, in the next ten days (Frundt 5). The workers created a large single union
between the plant workers and post mix workers (including the drivers) which
made them stronger in the face of management. The management, in an attempt to
instill divisiveness, tried to convince the workers that they would negotiate wage
increases and other protections as long as they did not unionize. The workers
knew there would be no guarantees and rejected this offer. With the help of Marta
Torres of the Confederacion Nacional de Trabadores, they were able to get manager
Armando Fong sent to jail for five days with a $500 fine for dismissing Boche
Morales because of his part in organizing the union. Again management tried to
appease leaders of the workers by offering them $15,000 each and residence in the
United States to stop organizing. When they refused, the management threatened the
lives of all the union members. Israel Marquez, a union leader, recalled the early
attempts at forming a union, We continued to receive all sorts of threats and
harassment. Trotter personally threatened me, saying, The army is going to get you.

Jack Kevorkian Assisted Suicide Case Study
The End
In 1990, Jack Kevorkian assisted in the death of Janet Adkins. Adkins was
diagnosed with Alzheimer s. After her diagnosis, she started searching for someone
to help her end her life before the Alzheimer s took on its full effect. Adkins
contacted Jack Kevorkian for his assistance. Jack Kevorkian did his residency at the
University of Michigan where he became interested by death and the act of dying
(Biography). After many experiments and writing articles, he created the suicide
machine . This machine consisted of three bottles: saline, a painkiller and a fatal
dose of potassium chloride. After his contact with Adkins, Kevorkian agreed to assist
with ending her life. They met in a public park in Michigan where Kevorkian put an

Adkins then administered her own pain killer and poison. Adkins died of heart
failure five minutes later (Biography). Jack Kevorkian was convicted of murder
because physician assisted suicide is illegal in many states. His conviction was
dismissed but the state of Michigan suspended his medical license and made it
illegal for him to use his suicide machine (Biography). Dr. Kevorkian also
videotaped his assistance with the death of Thomas Youk. Kevorkian sent in tape
to the television show 60 Minutes. He was then convicted of second degree
murder and sentenced to twenty five years in prison. Dr. Kevorkian was released
on good behavior after serving eight years of his twenty five year sentence. In
2016, physician assisted suicide is legal in only five states: Oregon, Vermont,
Washington, California and Montana. However, in the state of Montana, a court
ruling is needed. Physician assisted suicide should be made legal in all states
because with it being illegal it goes against a person s personal autonomy, it goes
against the Hippocratic oath that doctors have to take, and if the death penalty is
legal, it does not make any sense that physician assisted suicide is illegal in

Ursula K. LeGuin s The Lathe of Heaven and Science Fiction and the Future
What will happen in a couple of days? a month ? a year? or twenty years from now?
The answer is not known. Author Ursula K. LeGuin gives us the answers about the
future from her point of view which can be seen through her article Science Fiction
and the Future and her novel, The Lathe of Heaven. Ursula K. LeGuin believes
people try to control the future they may have when in reality they have no control
over the future. Every single day we see examples of people trying to control the
future and see the situation fail every single time.

Dr. Haber, George Orrs psychiatrist, uses his machine, The Augmentor, to read
levels of George Orrs dreams in which Dr. Haber can ultimately make them
affective. Habers actions shows the desire to have power in what the future holds.
In addition, needing to have power to control the future is showing we want to
have a future which have our desires in mind and not any surprises which could
affect our self. The main priority Dr. Haber has it to make George Orr dream
affectively of values that he thinks need to be in society and make the world the
place into a peaceful environment with no suffering. For example, George Orr
makes the world less populated, no wars going on, no racism and the society as a
whole into a wonderful congregation. With having the power to change dreams into
a persons desire, there is no opportunity for any change which would in fact make
life boring. I feel this way due to having difficulties in my life an opportunity for
myself to learn and understand the values which are the most important in life. With
having this knowledge I can learn to use my values towards society much like the
way Dr. Haber wanted.
In the article written by Ursula LeGuin, Science Fiction and the Future, LeGuin
speaks of what societys perception of the future is, the dreams we have for
ourselves. Just like the article, Science Fiction and the Future, Dr. Haber is a
Essay on Nicholas Sparks; The Author of Romance
II. Background Nicholas Sparks was born on December 31, 1965, in Omaha,
Nebraska (Jessica Estremera). He was the second of three children born to Patrick
Sparks, a college professor, and his wife Jill. Nicholas spent the early part of his
childhood moving around with his family as his father finished up his graduate
work (Biography Channel website). Because my father was a student until I was 9
years old and my mother didn t work, we weren t exactly living the high life when I
was little. I grew up on powdered milk and ate tons of potatoes, though to be honest,
I never noticed how poor we really were until I was old enough to take an honest
appraisal of things. Even then, it didn t matter. For the most part, I had a wonderful

. Within a shockingly short span of time, Sparks went from being a relative
unknown to being a writer with a book deal and $1 million movie rights contract
(Bio Channel). Once again, though, Sparks triumph gave way to devastation
when his father was killed at the age of 54 in an automobile accident.. The book,
later titled Message in a Bottle, was inspired by his parents relationship. Skeptical
that he d really made it as a writer, Sparks continued to sell pharmaceuticals while
he wrote the book. He finally retired from sales in February 1997, when he
managed to sell Message in a Bottle to a Hollywood studio before the book was
even completed (Bio Channel). The subsequent years have brought more novels, as
well as more Hollywood blockbuster adaptations of Sparks work. The lineup
includes The Rescue (2001), A Bend in the Road (2001), Nights in Rodanthe (2002),
The Wedding (2004), and the poignant Three Weeks With My Brother (2004), which
recounts a journey he and his brother Michah embarked on after becoming the only
surviving members of their family. (Their younger sister, Danielle, died of cancer in
2000 at the age of 33.) In September 2008, Sparks published his 14th novel, The
Lucky One (Bio Channel). Nicholas became a millionaire before the age of thirty.
He has nearly quadrupled his fortune within a nine year period. Bookstores eagerly

The Dreaded Upper-arm Jiggle
The back of the upper arms is a common female problem area, especially after
menopause or if you lead an inactive lifestyle. (See References 1, p. 112) Weight
gain can result in that dreaded underarm jiggle that has you wearing long sleeved
shirts all year round. By exercising your triceps the three headed musclethat takes up
two thirds of your upper arm you can firm and define this area so you can
comfortably sport sleeveless shirts during the hot summers.
Exercises With Free Weights
You can work your triceps with a barbell or dumbbells. The latter might be more
convenient, since it allows you to work one arm at a time. Exercises can include
triceps extensions and kickbacks. These require you to extend and bend your elbows
to target the backs of your upper arms. You can do this while standing or sitting with
a dumbbell in your hand while your arm is extended overhead; you can bend forward
from your waist and press the dumbbell back; or you can lie face up on a bench with
your arms extended up, bending your elbows and bringing the weight toward your
forehead before pressing it up. (See References 2, p. 111)
Exercises With Machines
The triceps machine and high cable pulley station should become your best friends
in the gym. Triceps machines require you to bend and extend your elbows by
pressing and raising levers against the selected resistance. A high cable pulley with a
handle bar or rope attachment can also work your triceps. While in a split stance you
bend
History of Breakdancing Essay example
B boying is a form of hip hop dancing, which is popularly known as breaking. It
consists of top or up rock, footwork, spinning moves (power moves), and freeze. B
boying came from Bronx, NY. The term quot;B boy quot; or quot;B boying quot; was
created by Kool Herc who was a DJ spinning at block parties in Bronx back in the
days. B Boys means breakboys and they were called so because they dance to the
break part of music. Later, by repeating this break part done by DJ, quot;breakbeats
quot; was born.
It was late 60s, early 70s when people started a sort of b boying. Their dancing was
called quot;Good Foot quot; from James Brown s record of the same name. The
Good Foot was the first freestyle dance that incorporated moves involving ... Show

Once the first early break moves had been established, a definite style began to
develop. The famous first generation of b boys were quot;Nigger Twins quot;,
quot;Clark Kent quot;, and quot;Zulu Kings quot;. Around 1977 breaking was losing
its popularity and it was about to die. (Continued on Page 2)
History of Breakdancing
B Boying (continued from Page 1)
However, breaking came back with a new generation of b boys. It was Puerto
Rican b boys who put new life to breaking and took it into next level. They started
to put many higher levels of acrobatics and gymnastics into breaking and invented
many new moves. B boys such as Crazy Legs from Rock Steady Crew who were
influenced by Jimmy Lee and Joe Joe, members of original Rock Steady Crew
developed and invented the new moves such as backspins and windmills. Media
stars like Bruce Lee and other Kung Fu film stars and martial artists had a major
influence on b boying culture. The popularity of Kung Fu films during the mid and
late 70s around the world and especially in New York City has had a great impact on
b boying style. A large number of martial artsmoves were incorporated into b boying.
B boying became even more popular in 80s. It was first introduced to out side of
New York City and the rest of world by a movie quot;Flashdance quot; in 1983.
(Before the quot;Flashdance quot;, there were already movies like quot;Wildstyle
quot; and quot;Stylewars quot;). Even though it was not a b boying
The Engineering Model Of Stress In Psychology
Definition of stress
According to Professor of psychology Richard S. Lazarus, stress is defined as, stress
is experienced when a person perceives that the demands exceed the personal and
social resources the individual is able to mobilise (Lazarus 1966)
My interpretation of this definition is, stress is the body s physical, emotional or
mental response to demands which are placed on us that we feel are threatening.
Not all stress is bad, it comes in negative or positive forms. Positive stress can
encourage us to pursue situations we find a challenge, for example, giving us the
extra encouragement to work harder to hand an essay in on time. Stress becomes
negative when it is prolonged, this type of stress can incapacitate us and prevent us
from living a normal life. Negative stress comes when we are given situations we feel
we cannot cope with for a prolonged period of time, while positive stress is being in a
situation we feel is a challenge, but believe we can cope.
(blackswanstress.weebly.com)
The Engineering Model
The engineering model of stress in psychology terms is based on Hooke s law of
elasticity. Hooke s law was discovered in 1660 by scientist Robert Hooke who
discovered that when stress is applied to an object it causes strain. The object will
flex and bend to within the limits of its elasticity until the stress is removed, without
suffering any damage. Once the stress is removed from the object it will return to its
normal shape, and remain undamaged. If
On Man And Woman In John Steinbeck s The
Chrysanthemums
Man and Woman in The Chrysanthemums The relationship between man and woman
are discussed so many times. This topic is complicated and difficult. Hundreds of
years ago, woman s social status is much lower than man. In order to raise woman s
status, there are tons of feminism movement. Some authors are affected by feminism
movement and begin to write story about the relationship between man and woman.
The Chrysanthemums is one of the most famous story. The Chrysanthemums is
written by John Steinbeckin 1937, the pit of despair between the First wave feminism
and Second wave feminism. At that time, many males still insist the tradition that
man need to work, and money is the only thing that woman need. Man and Woman
are not equal at that time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the chrysanthemums. The chrysanthemums are the most important
symbol in the story obviously. Mordecai Marcus thinks it is a symbol of Elisa s
child since Elisa and Henry don t have children, and Elisa take care of these
chrysanthemums carefully. Moreover, Leroy Thomas even thinks that the
chrysanthemums are a symbol of sexual experience. It is as if Elisa and the
thinker, through a symbolic sexual experience of sorts, have created the
chrysanthemums that Elisa puts in the pot for the tinker to take with him. She has
now become a fulfilled woman proud of her womanhood, her body. Whereas she
was once barren, she now brought forth new life (Thomas, 1). However, I do not
agree with Marcus. If chrysanthemums are the symbol of Elisa s child, how can
Elisa just give her child to a poor tinker, and she even does not know anything
about him before. Though Elisa wants her child can leave Salinas Valley and see
the whole world, it makes no sense totally. And I do agree with Leroy Thomas
opinions. Elisa invites the tinker into her yard, maybe a symbol of penetration.
Also, Steinbeck describes too detailed while Elisa is talking with the tinker. She is
kneeling on the ground looking up at him , her voice is husky , and her breast
swelled passionately , she even wants to touch tinker s greasy black trousers . After
communication with the tinker, Elisa goes back home and gets some jobs for the
tinker, takes the shower directly, and look her naked body in the mirror. Elisa is
proud of her womanhood, and she is getting fulfilled in this inanimate Salinas Valley.
However, though Leroy Thomas perspective is reasonable, the main meaning of
chrysanthemums is Elisa s dream in fact. Henry has said that he wants Elisa to work
out in the orchard and raise some apples because according to man, apple is much
profitable than
Borges Misrepresentations
The writer Jorge Luis Borges is known for his inclusion of references to other
literary texts in his own writing. Occasionally, Borges seems to make references to
real works, but they do not exist. He also makes references to works that exist, but
he incorrectly represents the plot or characters of the text. There is an argument
about whether or not Borges reference to Liddell Hart s work in The Garden of
Forking Pathsis a true misrepresentation and whether or not the misrepresentation
should be important to the overall meaning of the short story. For my research paper,
I intend to explore these mistakes as misrepresentations by explaining reasons why
Borges might have intentionally made such mistakes as well as how these

Public Distribution System Of India
I Introduction
Distribution is a crucial function of marketing. It provides a vital link between the
producers and customers by making available goods and services. The distribution
system encompasses all movements starting from the shipment of raw materials to
the delivery of the finished products to the customers. The distribution system
undertaken by the Government is termed as Public Distribution System .
Acc. to The Economic Times the Definition: Public distribution system is a
government sponsored chain of shops entrusted with the work of distributing basic
food and non food commodities to the needy sections of the society at very cheap
prices.
IIPublic Distribution System in India
It is important to note that public distribution system has been the topic of debates in
India for long. In India Public Distribution System is 75 years old. Though it was
started as a rationing system during the War time scarcity situation, it has grown
into being the largest system of organized food grain distribution in the world this
day. Availability of food grains is essential and of prime concern but not passable
condition to make sure food security to the poor people. In addition to food
availability, it is necessary that food accessibility is also ensured to the poor
households. This can be done either by raising the level of incomes of these poor
households or by providing them food grains at subsidized prices. Public
Distribution System (PDS) is a way to ensure availability
Analysis Of Moonlight By Barry Jenkins
Barry Jenkins Moonlight depicts the coming of age of a young black boy as he
struggles with and endures abuse for his sexuality, causing him to hide his internal
conflicts. The life of the protagonist, Chiron, is split into his three main stages of life,
with each part focusing on the physical and emotional abuse he endures due to his
homosexual orientation. When the viewer first meets Chiron, he is running from
bullies. As he ages, the bullyingfollows him, causing him to harden and avoid
vulnerability in his adult life. Jenkins uses climactic scenes in Chiron s life to portray
how prejudice against black sexuality forces him to conceal his true identity. In
Moonlight, Jenkins cinematic style illustrates Chiron s public and private... Show

The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each
other and the audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the
camera stays stable, leaving an empty space on screen in their absence. This
absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s lack of a home, a safe
place to explore his individuality.
Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key
moment in Chiron s struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as
an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted,
while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This contrasts the two, indicating that
the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within Paula. Typically,
mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their nurturing relationships
with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest that she is
an absent mother figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no
sound can be heard from Paula, though the audience can read her lips and
understand the nature of their conversation. Instead, classical music is audible. The
use of no sound further establishes Paula as an absent figure in Chiron s life
because she is seen, but not heard. Paula s body is basked in pink light until the end
of the scene, when the light fades to reveal bluish green walls. In this film, Jenkins
uses the
My Experience As An Educator
Reflecting over this semester I have come to the realization the more time I have
had teaching has made me as an educator, more prepared for each and everyday.
When I think back to last year and compare how prepared and confident I felt, there
is no comparison where I stand today. Within this semester, I have grown immensely
as an educator from taking on new roles from having a K state educationstudent
observe with me for 40 hours, to presenting at the state KSDE conference, and to
many more adventures in which I have yet to experience. Even though it has only
been a semester, I feel this year is flying by and I am constantly reflecting on last
year s experiences and changing this years experience for the better.
When comparing my experiences from last year as a new educator I have realized
this year I am more prepared and ready to get started each and every day. For
example, all of my lessons were well thought out and prepared for each and every
class period. When creating and deciding what lessons I wanted to teach to my
students I planed out my first semester of classes during the summer, which has made
me prepared for this this school year. I also feel my classroom management skills
have improved as well, since this year I have more experience under my belt and I
am constantly reflecting if I am managing my classes with the best skills possible. I
also am constantly collaborating with other teachers for feedback on areas of
improvement, which has really pushed me to be

Employee Rights in the Workplace
Abstract Our world of technological advances is growing day by day. So much so,
in fact, that new laws are created to help determine the legal responsibilities and
actions to be taken if an incident occurs. The advantages and disadvantages of
monitoring and being monitored will be discussed. Some of the laws that
represent the employer and employee as well as why an employer would want to
monitor an employee will also are discussed. Although employee monitoring is
beneficial to an employer for a variety of reasons, it is better for an employer to leave
an employees private life away from the workplace private.

(В¶6) A second reason would be to track the amount of time an employee spends
away from the computer or how long the employees computer is idle. (В¶6).
If we, as employees put ourselves in the employer s shoes, we would want to know
if our employees were being productive for the job that they were hired to do. If
someone were to perform a search on the Internet for employee monitoring tools, he
or she would find that the market is flooded with these types of tools. In 1993, there
were an estimated 27 million worldwide employees being monitoring in the
workplace and that number is still growing (В¶8).
Advantages and Disadvantages of Monitoring Some of the advantages of
employee monitoring are that email use can be limited, viruses can be prevented
from corrupting company computer systems, inappropriate acts and uses of
language can be intercepted before any harm is done, and companies can stop
leaks of proprietary information. Some of the disadvantages of employee
monitoring are, as stated earlier, an employees feeling of lack of trust, a feeling of
no privacy at work, and the possibility of employers being sued by employees for
fear that their privacy has been violated. One type of violation that can occur
happened to a Massachusetts college secretary while she was changing clothes in a
place she thought was safe. (Kitchen, 2006). She felt violated because her boss never
informed her that she was being videotaped.

Because the virus is new, the human population has little to no immunity against it.
The virus spreads quickly from person to person worldwide. The United States is
not currently experiencing a flu pandemic. If a pandemic occurs, the federal
government will work to identify the cause and create a vaccine. Flu.gov will
provide updates on the steps the federal government is taking to address the
pandemic. Death rates may be high. Four factors largely that determine the death
toll: The number of people who become infected, the strength of the virus, the
underlying characteristics and vulnerability of affected population, the
effectiveness of preventive measures. What you need in order to be able to survive
a pandemic you would really only need to be around your personal family that you

Observing An Average College Student Essay
Observing an average college student during a lecture is a marvelous thing. Sure,
there are the students in the front, attentively taking notes, eagerly soaking in
information to be used to pass their next test and nothing more. Gazing over the sea
of people, however, one couldn t help but notice the vast majority of people using
some sort of digitaltechnology; a sleek new MacBook Pro alternating between
Facebook political rants, a fantasy team on the verge of a winless season, and a
slideshow of Ten Celebrities You Didn t Know Have Been Arrested . A girl in
sweatpants and a tank top who didn t even bother to bring a book bag, navigating
several group chats and frantically tapping the spider webbed glass. Some folks
will have the next day s homework pulled up, some the PowerPoint slideshow on

neither their Surface Pro or the monotonous droll of the professor, instead wondering
how to get that cute guy s number or whether they have enough in their checking
account to hit up Chick Fil A after class. The majority of these typical college
students, however much or little attention they paid to the lecture, will leave this
class confident they have somewhat of a grasp on the material. Many researchers

analytical way. Throughout the poem, Frost imagines that a young boy would play
on the birchtrees and climb Toward heaven, till the tree could bear no more (Line
56). Frost intends for his readers to look at things in a brighter perspective. It is
obvious that the author has gotten old, and feels as if time went by too fast. Frost
highlights the fact that the character longs to return to the time when he was a
young boy, swinging on trees. Robert Frost uses Birches to express melancholy
towards growing old and accepting death. The life of Robert Frost brought many
disappointments and eventually accomplishments. Mr. Frost s life began on March
26, 1874 in San Francisco, California. During his childhood, he experienced the
sadness and abuse of an alcoholic father. When he was only eleven years old, his
father died at the young age of 34. As a young boy Frost played baseball, trapped

Comparison Between Fixed Cost And Dr. Pepper-Snapple
Group
Fixed Cost On the other hand Dr. Pepper Snapple Group does have a large number
of fixed cost. Fixed costs are cost that are constant and must be paid no matter what
level of the activity is chosen. DP has over 21 manufacturing centers and 115
distribution centers around the world, according to Dr. Pepper Snapple Group s
annual report. This means that DP is paying rent on a large number of buildings,
leasing our buying equipment that they use at these facilities in order to produce DP.
Those are example of fixed cost, cost that have to be paid no matter what, this also
means that if you have a bad year and your company did not make as much as it did
the year before you still have to pay for the rent and utilities on all of those facilities.
Variable Cost Unlike fixed cost variable cost you have some room to play, variable

Pepper Snapple group had quite an extensive accounting profile, one that was
around 133 pages to be exact. In their annual report Dr. Pepper Snapple group
showed to have quite an impressive year when it came to growth and profit. With
the profit of the company being up this also lead to the current stock value as
growing. This was explained both in the annual report and the current stock market
standing. In the 2014 annual report the Dr. Pepper dollar share was only up 0.1
points from the previous year. The largest amount of grown that the company
experienced was in Latin America. According to yahoo finance the stock as been
rising ever since the first of the year, closing everyday higher than the last. The
current economic profit of the Dr. Pepper Snapple group is positive, with their
current status in the market. They are able to have a positive economic profit
because they are making money after they cover all their fixed cost.

Neutron Stars Research Paper
Before a neutron star is created it is a supernova. Supernova s are difficult to see in
our galaxy because dust is blocking our view. When there s a change in the core in a
star a supernova occurs.
When giant stars die in supernova and their core collapse that is when a neutron star
is created. This neutron star is several times bigger than the sun.Because the neutrons
are tightly put together into a super dense object the supernova is very heavy it weighs
about 100 million tons.
Neutron stars typically have a surface temperature around 600,000 K.The magnetic
fields are between 10 to the 8th power and 10 to the 15 power as strong as that of
the sun.A neutron star is part of the binary system the survived the deadly blast from
it s supernova.
Puerto Rico Essay
Puerto Rico is an island located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, which is an
unincorporated territory of the United States. The islands of Puerto Rico were
acquired by the United States in 1898, where Spain ceded the islands to the U.S.
In 1917, the Jones Act declared Puerto Rico to be an organized but incorporated
territory of the United States, and granted US citizenship to all the residents who
wanted it. An unincorporated territory , according to the US Supreme Court Insular
Cases, of the Unites States is a territory appurtenant and belonging to the United
States, but not a part of the United States . [Lawson p.1124] Since 1952, Puerto Rico,

During the 110th Congress, three bills concerning Puerto Rico s political status were
introduced. There was the H.R. 900, which would have sanctioned a plebiscite. In the
plebiscite, the citizens of Puerto Rico would have voted on whether they wanted to
continue the status quo or proceeding toward non territorial status. The second bill
was the H.R. 1230, which would have endorsed a constitutional convention and
referendum in Puerto Rico to reflect on status options. There was a meeting held for
these two bills in October 2007, by the House Natural Resources Committee. The
committee favored an amended version of HR 900, with an intermingling of the two
House bills. In August, another House bill was introduced, the S.1936, which
proposed a single plebiscite in which the voters would choose between the options of
continuing the status quo, acquiring an status of independence or statehood. [Bea p.9

In the 111th Congress, another House Bill was introduced, that concerned the
political status of Puerto Rico, the H.R. 2499. H.R. 2499 would permit a two stage

Research Paper On Gershwin Concert
Gershwin Concert
On Friday November 24th, at 8:00 p.m. we attended a concert in the Verizon Hall of
the Kimmel Center. The program featured American music written by three very
famous people in American musical history: George Gershwin, AntonГn
DvoЕ™ГЎk, and Samuel Barber. There were four pieces played in this concert; the
first two were composed by Gershwin, the third by DvoЕ™ГЎk, and the fourth by
Barber. Each of these people influenced music at the time, and helped to create more
modern styles. DvoЕ™ГЎk was significant older and died before Gershwin and
Barber s musical careers even began. These three men helped push America out of
the classical period and expanded what people considered music.
The roaring twenties were an age of shifting social behaviors and urbanization.
People moved to the city in search of jobs, at one point more people lived in cities
than outside of them. Women were freed from many traditional social standards
and had begun to let loose, they could now where less traditional clothes, smoke in
public, work, and even more. Another big catalyst to the roaring twenties was that
prohibition was in full swing; people got rich off bootlegging and crime flourished.
It was a time of great social change and progress. This time period is romanticized in
many books and movies as being full of parties, glamor, and extravagance. The Great
Gatsby is set in the 1920s; the novel and movie both present the era as luxurious and

Comparing Wealth In Beowulf And The Song Of Roland
In the poems Beowulf and The Song of Roland, the authors chose to emphasize
wealth as a reflection of the customs and traditions of the respective countries.
Because both cultures favored heroic deeds, those who displayed the most heroic
actions were appropriately rewarded in the form of material wealth. Generally, the
more affluent members of society took on the responsibility of rewarding honorable
actions because they had the means available to reward the soldiers. The king,
sometimes called the ring giver, also dispersed wealth as a way to guarantee loyalty
and bravery from his soldiers. Additionally, nations often exchanged wealth as a
method of ensuring peace between the two nations. In contrast to the expected
generosity of those with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story of Beowulf begins with a short narrative of Shield Sheifson. Though he
began as a foundling, he grew to be a great hero who was widely admired for his
courageous actions and heroic achievements. During his funeral, the narrator states
that ...they [Spear Danes] stretched their beloved lord in his boat, laid out by the
mast, amidships, the great ring giver. Far fetched treasures were piled upon him,
and precious gear. I never heard before of a ship so well furbished with battle
tackle, bladed weapons and coats of mail. The massed treasure was loaded on top
of him: it would travel far out into the ocean s sway. The decision to begin the story
with Shield Shiefson was a way of introducing the theme of wealth and
demonstrating the respect he received for his heroic achievements. The story goes
on to tell of Beowulf s adventures, as he takes on various challenges in an attempt to
make a name for himself and gain wealth through heroic deeds. Before receiving
his reward, Beowulf presented king Hrothgar with Grendel s arm as proof of his
victory during battle. After his second battle, he returned with Grendel s head as
well as the hilt of the magical sword he used to kill Grendel s mother. Because the
kings often rewarded his heroic deeds with treasure, Beowulf gained a great amount
of wealth
Models Of Kingship In Macbeth
Shakespeare s Macbeth is set in a time and place where the ideas of the Chain of
Being and the Divine Right of the King are highly regarded and held to be true. The
play incorporates both these ideas and uses them to depict two models of kingship
that either hold fast to these concepts or deviate from them. This can be seen in how
the throne of Scotland first falls from Duncan, the true king of Scotland at the
beginning of the play, to Macbeth, who usurps the throne by killing Duncan, and
then to Malcolm, the true heir to the throne who takes it from Macbeth at the
conclusion of the play. It is the aim of this essay to compare these different models
of kingship, show how they are represented through the characters of Duncan,
Macbeth and Malcolm, as well as to show what the play suggests about the qualities
that are necessary for a good king.
The ideas of the Chain of Being and the Divine Right of the King refer to the
Elizabethan belief that the King of the land is God s representative on Earth and is
in charge of keeping the natural order (Donaldson et al. 2014, p. 15). Should some
event take place that breaks this order, the people and the land itself will feel and
reflect this. The first model of kingship that will be discussed falls in line with the
natural order that is espoused by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Moreover, the part of the prophecy that states that Banquo shalt get kings

The National Center for Health Statistics, in a statement released also stated that there
is quite possibly a connection between the decline in births and the economic

consistent with that, given that the nation s economic troubles are affecting the birth

As a non for profit organisation the product is a service. For this campaign the service
remains the same for both households. The intangible nature and people involvement
can affect the quality of service. To avoid service dissatisfaction branding will ensure
consistent communication to the households so that emotional connections are made
to initiate information searches that lead to donations. For example, the purple and
yellow colours will be used in all communication, as well as the logo. These stimuli
should trigger emotions or feelings, beliefs and behavioural intentions towards the
charity (Quester et al., 2014, p. 338). Thus, conditioning the target to think of the
charity when it sees similar colours and influence purchasing/donating behaviours.
Clear brand guidelines will also guide staff training, tone of voice and personality of
the campaign.

Importance Of Personal Writing
From an early age, I ve had trouble with writing effectively. I had absolutely no
interest in learning to write, which was mostly because of how difficult it was to me.
Often, I found it boring. As I got older, I found interest in music and poetry, sparking
my interest to learn to write like musicians and poets. Up until that point, I had
always been writingpapers for school, often to write research papers or to write
forced narratives. I never wrote anything for myself until about junior year in high

If my audience were a large group of people, my storytelling would be less specific
and more focused on telling the overall idea of the story; I like to include some
overlying theme in the story. The Arthurian legend that I wrote for class was easy
to write and took me about an hour to finish a five page story. It was for my British
literature class in high school. I took all the stereotypes included in Arthurian
legends and tried to turn them into the opposite whilst also including them like the
rubric said. However, I m almost the opposite for professional papers. I still prefer
free writing my essays, but I must stop every minute or so, just to figure out what
to write next. I ve tried using outlines, but it makes me take longer to write since I
would be doing the same stopping and thinking thing that I already do when free

somebody is going to read it. I often make sure that what I say is fully explained,
with as much proper grammar as I can use. The best thing about wanting to explain
every detail I can is that I don t like to leave gray area for facts I state; I state the
full explanation if I know what I m talking about. The thing I don t like about writing
professional papers is that usually forced to write about something I really don t find
interesting, which is the biggest determining factor in whether I put time into the
composition or not. I prefer the writing
Societal Values In Homer s Iliad And Women In Genesis
The women in Homer s Iliad and the women in Genesis both exhibit the accepted
societal values in a woman through their duties as wives, which typically consisted of
obedience and the ability to sustain their husband s lineage. Rebekah and
Andromache both assume their roles as wives, but sometimes act in ways outside of
the what was considered normal in their society. Though both Rebekah and
Andromache maintain the classic role of a wife, they occasionally contradict the
expectations of how a womanshould behave by making decisions traditionally made
by men. Through revolutionary behaviors demonstrated by both women, they grant
themselves more authority and power in decision making, which in turn affects the
fate of each woman s family. Both Andromache and Rebekah share a parallel in terms
of their roles in carrying out the fate of their families, however what ultimately
distinguishes one from the other is how successful they are at sustaining those roles.
In the Iliad, Homer displays societal norms placed for wives through the actions of
Andromache, yet at the same time, conveys her as having more power and
involvement in the family than what was expected for a woman at the time to have.
In her encounter with her husband, Hector, Andromache establishes one of her main
roles of trying to manipulate fate (moira) through attempting to prevent him from
returning to the war and facing his inevitable death. She pleas for him to show some
pity and stay here by the tower, don t

Adderall
Abstract
This paper will look into one of the most commonly used and sought for drugs
found on college campuses in the world today. Adderall and other forms of the smart
drug have become more and more popular when it comes to students and young
professionals trying to get an advantage. It will discuss both the positive and negative
side effects of taking these smart pills along with the specific affects/reasons for
ingesting them whether they are prescribed or not.
Introduction
Adderall, a prescription drug, was first developed to treat patients that suffer from
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a chronic condition including
attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. Students and young
professionals that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this encouragement, I asked the students if they would recommend Adderall
to a fellow student that hasn t ever done it before. Of the 16 students who have
taken Adderall, 14 answered Yes; they would recommend it to a fellow student.
Now, although this pill does seem to be a good thing all drugs come along with a
possible negative side effect that may vary from person to person. Students were
questioned about their personal uses and what side effects they experienced if they
did any and the reports are as followed:
The prevalence of side effects is just as common as how easy the drug is to get
your hands on. With almost every student reporting multiple side effects that all
seem to be pretty negative towards your health it makes you begin to wonder if the
drug is in fact a good thing for you to be doing. These side effects also worsen if
taken with alcohol which could also be a very common thing from a college student.
From 2005 2010, the number of emergency room visits due to ADHD medications
nearly quadrupled in young adults with about half of those cases being due to
Adderall mixed with drinking. Students report taking the prescription stimulants to
stay hype to party, a really negative outlook on Adderall considering about %90 of
college students attest to binge drinking.
Discussion
Since reports of Adderall being of such assistance in the academic life of a college
student there is no question that the
Underground Railroad Research Paper
Despite being labeled the Underground Railroad , this system was neither
underground nor a railroad. The expression derived from the recent establishment
of railroads in the United States and the system s surreptitiousness. The railway
terms were used as code words by those in the business. The different routes were
called lines , stopping places were dubbed stations , those who assisted along the
passage were known as conductors , and the fugitives were referred to as packages or
freight . Its title makes the journey seem as though there is one particular path, but it
was quite the opposite. The Underground Railroadwas a vast organization of
networks that utilized countless people as aids, and extended through 14 Northern
states as well as Canada. Life as a slave was not easy or comfortable. It was full of

Many slaves had no idea where they were going or what it would be like once they
reached there, but they knew one thing it couldn t be worse than the life they were
enduring previously. The first step was to escape from the slaveholder. Sometimes
a conductor, posing as a slave, would enter a plantation and then guide the
runaways northward, but slaves mostly would just sneak off on their own. They
knew that in order to acquire freedom, they had to travel north. So they anxiously
followed the brightest star the North Star in hopes of sovereignty. If it was too
cloudy to distinguish the North Star, slaves often used moss since moss typically
grows on the north side of a tree as a compass. The escapees moved only at night,
and usually every 10 or 20 miles they would run into stations where they could rest
and eat. Conductors sometimes carried the slaves from station to station by horse
drawn wagon, concealing the slaves under hay or other items. The stationmasters
would hide the runaways wherever they could: barns, attics, basements, and secret
Gender Segregation And The Glass Ceiling
The terminology of the glass ceiling defines a variety of barriers that prevent
qualified individuals from advancing higher in their organization and the phrase
glass ceiling is used most often in regards to women in the workforce (Adair,
2009). In addition, the glass ceiling was a term coined by an American newspaper,
the Wall Street Journal, a couple of decades ago to describe the barriers that
prevent women from reaching the top ladder in both economic and political fields
(Williams, 2006). Although it is true that many women have finally become
managers after fifty years in the job market (Driscoll Goldberg, 1993), few have
made it to the very top (Adair, 2009) in recent years.
In this paper, it would like to examine the gender issues in employment and
management and analyze equal opportunities policies and strategies for managing
diversity and work life balance. First of all, the paper would like to examine the
issues relating to women at work in terms of vertical and horizontal gender
segregation, and investigate theory to understand why and how subordination of
women exists in the workplace. Secondly, how individual women have progressed in
organizations and how they have broken through the glass ceiling will be looked. At
this stage, some successful women managers and entrepreneurs will be introduced.
Finally, the policies and strategies that governments and employers can adopt to
address workplace discrimination including equal opportunities policies,

It s almost as if the waiter is staring directly at the viewer of the painting.
Subjectively, this painting stood out to me and even more when I had seen it.
This painting had a quite abnormal perspective in a way that the cafГ© floor
covers a large area of the canvas that Van Gogh painted on. It appeared as if the
artist that painted this piece achieved a high vantage point because it looks as if he
was suspended in the air while painting. Looking at the Clock in the CafГ© it was
almost 1am and this is why the gas lighting was on, and it allowed the cafe to stay
opened very late. As the viewer can observe from the painting, the whole
environment in the Night Cafe is not so happy and warm. The space itself seemed
so isolated and shadowy even the people in the painting had their heads hung almost
as if they were sad. Although Van Gogh used redwhich usually is a quite ecstatic
color the addition of red, dark green and dark orange just created an environment
that wasn t so welcoming. Also, the use of Van Gogh s brushstroke had also added
another dark feeling to the painting. In this painting, it is very noticeable that Van
Gogh used harshly exaggerated brush strokes around the lights of the Cafe and also
the use of very bright shades of red and green were purposefully overly planned to
portray his view of the night
Damn It Essay
The word damn entered the English language from the Old French word damne r
during the Middle English period and first appeared in writing in the early 14th c.
(OED s.v. damn). In Latin the word dampnДЃ re meant to damage, hurt or condemn,
which, with the suffix con , meaning together or intensive, became the French and
English word which is more or less condemn. It did not get it s current spelling until
the 16th century; before it was sometimes spelled dampne or dam before settling
down and using the familiar mn construction for the final /m/ sound. The meaning of
damn, since its move to English seems to have changed from damage to something
like condemn or punish in a legal or theological sense. Not long after, it was also...

So, if it is not a theological tern, then why does it only appear in religious texts?
This could just be a coincidence since there were a lot of these sort of books
around and many of them have survived. Also, while these texts are about religion
and worship, they were written not written for religious scholars but for common
people, and they did not yet need a new set of theological terms in English because
scholarly work was done in Latin with Latin words (Crystal 128). English was the
language of the lower classes since the Norman invasion, but by the time Cursor
Mundi was written, the French aristocracy in England had lost their original ties to
France and were beginning to speak English. These aristocrats still used many
French words for prestige, but among the lower classes, English was seen as the
right and natural language and French as the language of oppression and
foreignness (Watson 334). Cursor Mundi tries to be as English as posible, stating
to its readers that it is about the love of Englis lede, / Englis lede of Engelande (qtd.
in Watson 334) and goes on to the superiority of English over French. So we can
conclude that damn was not a theological term since the first texts it appeared in,
while religious in content, are not theological works, and, in fact, the exact opposite
is true: these works deliberately use common language. Damn must have been
thought of as an English word by the time it
A Research Study On Business Research
CHAPTER 3
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
1. Introduction
Business research is considered as a truth seeking function that collects, analyses and
reports information which enables decision makers to become more effective in their
decision making (Alvesson and Deetz, 2000). Conducting primary research is
inevitable as far as the aim of this research is concerned. However it is vital that the
right kind of methodology be adopted which helps the researcher to achieve the
research aim properly. In the selection of right methodology, this study seeks to
identify the possible ways by which a research of this nature can be conducted and the
reasons behind the selection of particular philosophy, methods, data collection,
sampling and analysis techniques.
1.2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This in fact enabled the researcher to select the philosophy which best suits to achieve
the research aim. Saunders et al. (2000) state that two views pertaining to philosophy
dominate the literature. They are positivism and phenomenology. They add that both
of the philosophies are important as far as business and management research is
concerned. It can be found that Saunders et al. (2009) divided the research philosophy
into different clusters. They are positivism, interpretivism, pragmatism and realism.
1.2.1 Positivism
The positivistic approach is the traditional approach of the natural scientist. This
approach is considered as independent and also objective where research is
undertaken in a value freeway and only the observable phenomena provide credible
data (Saunders et al. 2009). Therefore in positivistic research the influence of the
researcher on research is kept at the minimum possible way and the instruments and
methods used for this should be enabling the researcher in this regard. The
methodological underpinning of survey research and experimental studies is
positivism. Scientific rigour of doing research is thus one of the characteristics of
positivistic research (Jupp, 2006). Easterby Smith et al. (2012) state that positivist
methods is usually based on the assumption that there is the presence of true
Female Stereotypes In The Media

how society views women and how women view themselves. What is the media

product, and television commercials highlighting a womans thigh and butt to sell
sneakers, it may be difficult for society not to be influenced by the overwhelming
message to objectify women.
Negative Female Stereotypes
Female stereotypes in the media tend to undervalue women as a whole, and
diminish them to sexual objects and passive human beings. According to research
done by Children Now, a national organization trying to make children a public
priority, 38% of female characters found in video games are wearing revealing
clothing, 23% are showing cleavage. Magazine ads show a dismembered female
body, with parts, instead of the whole, a practice that according to media activist,
Jean Kilbourne, turns women into objects. Disney movies, from Beauty and The
Beast to Aladdin show slender, unrealistically curvaceous, and quite vulnerable young
women, who are dependent on male figures for strength and survival, not their own
sense of empowerment. Media stereotyping of women as objects and helpless beings
creates very low

How Did Alexander Graham Bell End The Invention Of
The...
Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone on March 10, 1875 in Ontario,
Canada. Bell became fascinated with the idea of creating a telephone while inventing
a harmonic telegraph. He hired his assistant, Thomas Watson, an electrician, to help
him invent such a thing. As they drew closer and closer to success, Bell s investors
filed a patent on the idea. Stories have it, that Alexander spilled a bottle of
transmitting fluid, and said Mr. Watson, come here I want you. Watson not only
heard this statement, but through the transmitter, thus accidentally finishing the
invention. Bell and Watson were successful in creating the very first telephone
transmitter. Transmitting one s voice was a huge deal back in this time.

The Effect of Genetic Markers
Genetic markers don t always match physical appearance. First of all, a genetic
marker is a gene or short sequence of DNA. Since the beginning of time our
genetics have been changing constantly due to a lot of different aspects. Some
causes of change include aging. As we get older our bodies chemicals change, we
produce more and less of certain chemicals, for example; insulin. The changing of
chemicals affect our body not just on the outside, but on the inside. It affects the way
our genetic markers respond and can alter them. Some diseases are caused by a
genetic mutation, or permanent change in one or more specific genes which can be
caused by aging. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may be possible to pass down epigenetic changes to future generations if the
changes occur in sperm or egg cells. Most epigenetic changes that occur in sperm
and egg cells get erased when the two combine to form a fertilized egg in a process
called reprogramming. This reprogramming allows the cells of the fetus to start from
scratch and make their own epigenetic changes. However, scientists think that some
of the epigenetic changes in parents sperm and egg cells may avoid the
reprogramming process and make it through to the next generation. If this is true,
things like the food a person eats before they conceive could affect their future child.
Scientists now think epigenetics can play a role in the development of some cancers.
For instance, an epigenetic change that silences a tumor suppressor gene, such as a
gene that keeps the growth of the cell in check, could lead to uncontrolled cellular
growth. Another example might be an epigenetic change that turns off genes that
help repair damaged DNA, leading to an increase in DNA damage, which in turn,
increases cancer risk. (US, National Institutes of Health)
Another reason our genetic markers change over time is because we get diseases,
also called a genetic disorder. A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by a
change or mutation in an individual s DNA sequence.
These mutations can be due to an error in DNA replication or due to environmental
factors, such as cigarette smoke and
Case Study Assessment At A Birmingham Podiatry Clinic
Case study assessment.
A 47 year old female patient attends a Birmingham podiatry clinic with callus and
heloma durum presenting on the plantar surface of the 1st MTPJ of the left foot. The
patient is generally fit and well, and requires routine treatment.
To enable the podiatrist to treat callus and corn, they must first understand the
biological process that leads to the pathology. Callus, or hyperkeratosis, a diffuse area
of relatively even thickness (Lorimer et al.1997), is formed from hypertrophy of the
superficial layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, and reduced desquamation
rate causing the skin to increase layers and harden (Fig 1). Mechanical stresses on the

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Christopher Marlowe s
Dr....
Superman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Batman; these are some examples of the modern
day hero. Most call this form of a hero a Super Hero. In the early nineteenth century,
the popular hero of the day was the romantic hero. Mary Shelly gives a great picture
of this hero in her novel Frankenstein. She uses Victor Frankenstein, the creator of the
famous Frankenstein s Monster as her character which embodies the traits of a
romantic hero. The model was relatively new; however, Christopher Marlowehad
written a character in the early fifteenth century which embodied the same
characteristics. These attributes of romanticismin the form of a hero are seen in both
Mary Shelly s Frankenstein and Christopher Marlowe s Dr. Faustus in very much the

During this chase, he says that he has been possessed by a frenzy and that he was
reserved for vengeance (Shelly 150). Clearly Victor is obsessed with locating and
executing his creation. This particular obsession leads to further mental madness
on his part and also to his death even after he is rescued by Robert Walton in the
Arctic Sea. In Marlowe s masterpiece, Faustus is obsessed with learning. In and of
itself, that is not a bad thing; however, this obsession with learning soon turns to
obsession with the dark arts, magic, and the devil. He exclaims that he will live in
speculation of this dark art as long as he can or till Mephistopheles return
(Marlowe 14). He exclaims his obsession in his lair after he learns that he can use
the dark arts to summon spirits. Later in the book, the Good Angel implores
Faustus to lay that damned book aside and to gaze not upon it (Marlowe 55). The
Good Angel is trying to cure Faustus of his obsession but ultimately he does not
succeed. Faustus s obsession eventually leads to his famed deal with the devil in
which he sells his soul to Lucifer for 24 years of Mephistopheles s power. This deal
is clearly detrimental to his relationship with Christ and its roots trace back to his
obsession with learning. When Frankenstein and Faustus experience the Internal
battles that all romantic heroes face, Shelly and Marlowe are trying to show that
there is a fine line between flawed and completely evil and that
Sexual Health in Civilization Essay examples
Introduction
Sexual and reproductive health deals with the state of complete physical, mental
and social well being, not just the absence of disease or infrimity. The article points
out that there needs to be a social impact on sexual and reproductive health services
and for policy makers to be aware of these things so their can be funding for these
programs and public education about it too. The reason why this is an interesting
topic is because each society around the world has different groups of people who
have their own or cultural view on when it comes to sexual health and illness as
matter of fact not all cultures or groups are aware on how to prevent an unwanted
pregnancy or have the knowledge of the transmission of sexually ... Show more

Investing in Family Planning Services
In a developed first world nation where the use of contraceptive such as birth
control and condoms is due to the fact that our governments are concerned about
the rates of teenage pregnancy, but for an underdeveloped nation it spells out
demise for a woman to be a single mother and have a difficult time staying in
school, social isolation and more unplanned pregnancies (Kane and Wellings, 1999).
In those underdeveloped countries the problem lie where the widespread failure of
not using the contraceptive correctly. For example in the UK, where contraceptive is
available for free at least a quarter of the of pregnancies ending in abortion are
conceived without contraception and most of those resulted in incorrect use or
inconsistent use (Glasier et al, 2006).
Prenatal Care
Newborn care is essential for the survival of an infant during its first year of life as
well as the mothers also, according to the report, maternal mortality rate in many
countries have remained more or less stagnant over the past 15 years but more than
half a million maternal deaths takes place each year. With all the technologies that
modern medicine has to offer their shouldn t be any excuse for a mother to die
during childbirth but it just goes to show the distinction between rich and poor
nations (Glasier et al, 2006). The World Health Organization (WHO) points out some
of the ways that we can implement to improve the mortality rate of the

  • 2. The Struggle for Human and Labor Rights in Guatemala Essay In a time where the United States was guarding against the spread of Communism to Latin America, the workers of Guatemala faced a difficult time organizing to demand benefits and rights from their employers. Among others that struggled to form organized labor through the various repressive governments, the union at the Coca Cola Bottling Plant in the capital city was one of the most successful. This success can be attributed to the favorable rulings of Guatemalan labor courts, the tenacity of the union s members, international support and the cooperation of the transnational corporation of Coca Cola, headquartered in the United States. Embotelladora Guatemalteca S.A. (EGSA), the Coca Cola franchise in Guatemala City, was filled with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This however, did not stop the President of the company, Texan John Trotter, from sending Boche Morales home after he heard about the union. Indignity from this action immediately drew 167 more signatories to the pliego, 80% of the work force, in the next ten days (Frundt 5). The workers created a large single union between the plant workers and post mix workers (including the drivers) which made them stronger in the face of management. The management, in an attempt to instill divisiveness, tried to convince the workers that they would negotiate wage increases and other protections as long as they did not unionize. The workers knew there would be no guarantees and rejected this offer. With the help of Marta Torres of the Confederacion Nacional de Trabadores, they were able to get manager Armando Fong sent to jail for five days with a $500 fine for dismissing Boche Morales because of his part in organizing the union. Again management tried to appease leaders of the workers by offering them $15,000 each and residence in the United States to stop organizing. When they refused, the management threatened the lives of all the union members. Israel Marquez, a union leader, recalled the early attempts at forming a union, We continued to receive all sorts of threats and harassment. Trotter personally threatened me, saying, The army is going to get you. (Riding, Strife in

After her diagnosis, she started searching for someone to help her end her life before the Alzheimer s took on its full effect. Adkins contacted Jack Kevorkian for his assistance. Jack Kevorkian did his residency at the University of Michigan where he became interested by death and the act of dying (Biography). After many experiments and writing articles, he created the suicide machine . This machine consisted of three bottles: saline, a painkiller and a fatal dose of potassium chloride. After his contact with Adkins, Kevorkian agreed to assist with ending her life. They met in a public park in Michigan where Kevorkian put an IV into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adkins then administered her own pain killer and poison. Adkins died of heart failure five minutes later (Biography). Jack Kevorkian was convicted of murder because physician assisted suicide is illegal in many states. His conviction was dismissed but the state of Michigan suspended his medical license and made it illegal for him to use his suicide machine (Biography). Dr. Kevorkian also videotaped his assistance with the death of Thomas Youk. Kevorkian sent in tape to the television show 60 Minutes. He was then convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to twenty five years in prison. Dr. Kevorkian was released on good behavior after serving eight years of his twenty five year sentence. In 2016, physician assisted suicide is legal in only five states: Oregon, Vermont, Washington, California and Montana. However, in the state of Montana, a court ruling is needed. Physician assisted suicide should be made legal in all states because with it being illegal it goes against a person s personal autonomy, it goes against the Hippocratic oath that doctors have to take, and if the death penalty is legal, it does not make any sense that physician assisted suicide is illegal in

Dr. Haber, George Orrs psychiatrist, uses his machine, The Augmentor, to read levels of George Orrs dreams in which Dr. Haber can ultimately make them affective. Habers actions shows the desire to have power in what the future holds. In addition, needing to have power to control the future is showing we want to have a future which have our desires in mind and not any surprises which could affect our self. The main priority Dr. Haber has it to make George Orr dream affectively of values that he thinks need to be in society and make the world the place into a peaceful environment with no suffering. For example, George Orr makes the world less populated, no wars going on, no racism and the society as a whole into a wonderful congregation. With having the power to change dreams into a persons desire, there is no opportunity for any change which would in fact make life boring. I feel this way due to having difficulties in my life an opportunity for myself to learn and understand the values which are the most important in life. With having this knowledge I can learn to use my values towards society much like the way Dr. Haber wanted. In the article written by Ursula LeGuin, Science Fiction and the Future, LeGuin speaks of what societys perception of the future is, the dreams we have for ourselves. Just like the article, Science Fiction and the Future, Dr. Haber is a

He was the second of three children born to Patrick Sparks, a college professor, and his wife Jill. Nicholas spent the early part of his childhood moving around with his family as his father finished up his graduate work (Biography Channel website). Because my father was a student until I was 9 years old and my mother didn t work, we weren t exactly living the high life when I was little. • 7. The Dreaded Upper-arm Jiggle The back of the upper arms is a common female problem area, especially after menopause or if you lead an inactive lifestyle. (See References 1, p. 112) Weight gain can result in that dreaded underarm jiggle that has you wearing long sleeved shirts all year round. By exercising your triceps the three headed musclethat takes up two thirds of your upper arm you can firm and define this area so you can comfortably sport sleeveless shirts during the hot summers. Exercises With Free Weights You can work your triceps with a barbell or dumbbells. The latter might be more convenient, since it allows you to work one arm at a time. Exercises can include triceps extensions and kickbacks. These require you to extend and bend your elbows to target the backs of your upper arms. You can do this while standing or sitting with a dumbbell in your hand while your arm is extended overhead; you can bend forward from your waist and press the dumbbell back; or you can lie face up on a bench with your arms extended up, bending your elbows and bringing the weight toward your forehead before pressing it up. (See References 2, p. 111) Exercises With Machines The triceps machine and high cable pulley station should become your best friends in the gym. Triceps machines require you to bend and extend your elbows by pressing and raising levers against the selected resistance. A high cable pulley with a handle bar or rope attachment can also work your triceps. While in a split stance you bend

The term quot;B boy quot; or quot;B boying quot; was created by Kool Herc who was a DJ spinning at block parties in Bronx back in the days. (Continued on Page 2) History of Breakdancing B Boying (continued from Page 1) However, breaking came back with a new generation of b boys. It was Puerto Rican b boys who put new life to breaking and took it into next level. They started to put many higher levels of acrobatics and gymnastics into breaking and invented many new moves. B boys such as Crazy Legs from Rock Steady Crew who were influenced by Jimmy Lee and Joe Joe, members of original Rock Steady Crew developed and invented the new moves such as backspins and windmills. Media stars like Bruce Lee and other Kung Fu film stars and martial artists had a major influence on b boying culture. • 9. The Engineering Model Of Stress In Psychology Definition of stress According to Professor of psychology Richard S. Lazarus, stress is defined as, stress is experienced when a person perceives that the demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilise (Lazarus 1966) My interpretation of this definition is, stress is the body s physical, emotional or mental response to demands which are placed on us that we feel are threatening. Not all stress is bad, it comes in negative or positive forms. Positive stress can encourage us to pursue situations we find a challenge, for example, giving us the extra encouragement to work harder to hand an essay in on time. Stress becomes negative when it is prolonged, this type of stress can incapacitate us and prevent us from living a normal life. Negative stress comes when we are given situations we feel we cannot cope with for a prolonged period of time, while positive stress is being in a situation we feel is a challenge, but believe we can cope. (blackswanstress.weebly.com) The Engineering Model The engineering model of stress in psychology terms is based on Hooke s law of elasticity. Hooke s law was discovered in 1660 by scientist Robert Hooke who discovered that when stress is applied to an object it causes strain. The object will flex and bend to within the limits of its elasticity until the stress is removed, without suffering any damage. Once the stress is removed from the object it will return to its normal shape, and remain undamaged. If
  • 10. On Man And Woman In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums Man and Woman in The Chrysanthemums The relationship between man and woman are discussed so many times. This topic is complicated and difficult. Hundreds of years ago, woman s social status is much lower than man. In order to raise woman s status, there are tons of feminism movement. Some authors are affected by feminism movement and begin to write story about the relationship between man and woman. The Chrysanthemums is one of the most famous story. The Chrysanthemums is written by John Steinbeckin 1937, the pit of despair between the First wave feminism and Second wave feminism. At that time, many males still insist the tradition that man need to work, and money is the only thing that woman need. Man and Woman are not equal at that time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, the chrysanthemums. The chrysanthemums are the most important symbol in the story obviously. Mordecai Marcus thinks it is a symbol of Elisa s child since Elisa and Henry don t have children, and Elisa take care of these chrysanthemums carefully. Moreover, Leroy Thomas even thinks that the chrysanthemums are a symbol of sexual experience. It is as if Elisa and the thinker, through a symbolic sexual experience of sorts, have created the chrysanthemums that Elisa puts in the pot for the tinker to take with him. She has now become a fulfilled woman proud of her womanhood, her body. Whereas she was once barren, she now brought forth new life (Thomas, 1). However, I do not agree with Marcus. If chrysanthemums are the symbol of Elisa s child, how can Elisa just give her child to a poor tinker, and she even does not know anything about him before. Though Elisa wants her child can leave Salinas Valley and see the whole world, it makes no sense totally. And I do agree with Leroy Thomas opinions. Elisa invites the tinker into her yard, maybe a symbol of penetration. Also, Steinbeck describes too detailed while Elisa is talking with the tinker. She is kneeling on the ground looking up at him , her voice is husky , and her breast swelled passionately , she even wants to touch tinker s greasy black trousers . After communication with the tinker, Elisa goes back home and gets some jobs for the tinker, takes the shower directly, and look her naked body in the mirror. Elisa is proud of her womanhood, and she is getting fulfilled in this inanimate Salinas Valley. However, though Leroy Thomas perspective is reasonable, the main meaning of chrysanthemums is Elisa s dream in fact. Henry has said that he wants Elisa to work out in the orchard and raise some apples because according to man, apple is much profitable than
  • 11. Borges Misrepresentations The writer Jorge Luis Borges is known for his inclusion of references to other literary texts in his own writing. Occasionally, Borges seems to make references to real works, but they do not exist. He also makes references to works that exist, but he incorrectly represents the plot or characters of the text. There is an argument about whether or not Borges reference to Liddell Hart s work in The Garden of Forking Pathsis a true misrepresentation and whether or not the misrepresentation should be important to the overall meaning of the short story. For my research paper, I intend to explore these mistakes as misrepresentations by explaining reasons why Borges might have intentionally made such mistakes as well as how these misrepresentations

Though it was started as a rationing system during the War time scarcity situation, it has grown into being the largest system of organized food grain distribution in the world this day. Availability of food grains is essential and of prime concern but not passable condition to make sure food security to the poor people. • 13. Analysis Of Moonlight By Barry Jenkins Barry Jenkins Moonlight depicts the coming of age of a young black boy as he struggles with and endures abuse for his sexuality, causing him to hide his internal conflicts. The life of the protagonist, Chiron, is split into his three main stages of life, with each part focusing on the physical and emotional abuse he endures due to his homosexual orientation. When the viewer first meets Chiron, he is running from bullies. As he ages, the bullyingfollows him, causing him to harden and avoid vulnerability in his adult life. Jenkins uses climactic scenes in Chiron s life to portray how prejudice against black sexuality forces him to conceal his true identity. In Moonlight, Jenkins cinematic style illustrates Chiron s public and private... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each other and the audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the camera stays stable, leaving an empty space on screen in their absence. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality. Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in Chiron s struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within Paula. Typically, mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their nurturing relationships with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest that she is an absent mother figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no sound can be heard from Paula, though the audience can read her lips and understand the nature of their conversation. Instead, classical music is audible. The use of no sound further establishes Paula as an absent figure in Chiron s life because she is seen, but not heard. Paula s body is basked in pink light until the end of the scene, when the light fades to reveal bluish green walls. In this film, Jenkins uses the

When I think back to last year and compare how prepared and confident I felt, there is no comparison where I stand today. Within this semester, I have grown immensely as an educator from taking on new roles from having a K state educationstudent observe with me for 40 hours, to presenting at the state KSDE conference, and to many more adventures in which I have yet to experience. Even though it has only been a semester, I feel this year is flying by and I am constantly reflecting on last year s experiences and changing this years experience for the better. When comparing my experiences from last year as a new educator I have realized this year I am more prepared and ready to get started each and every day. For example, all of my lessons were well thought out and prepared for each and every class period. When creating and deciding what lessons I wanted to teach to my students I planed out my first semester of classes during the summer, which has made me prepared for this this school year. I also feel my classroom management skills have improved as well, since this year I have more experience under my belt and I am constantly reflecting if I am managing my classes with the best skills possible. I also am constantly collaborating with other teachers for feedback on areas of improvement, which has really pushed me to be

Some of the laws that represent the employer and employee as well as why an employer would want to monitor an employee will also are discussed. (В¶6) A second reason would be to track the amount of time an employee spends away from the computer or how long the employees computer is idle. (В¶6). If we, as employees put ourselves in the employer s shoes, we would want to know if our employees were being productive for the job that they were hired to do. If someone were to perform a search on the Internet for employee monitoring tools, he or she would find that the market is flooded with these types of tools. In 1993, there were an estimated 27 million worldwide employees being monitoring in the workplace and that number is still growing (В¶8). Advantages and Disadvantages of Monitoring Some of the advantages of employee monitoring are that email use can be limited, viruses can be prevented from corrupting company computer systems, inappropriate acts and uses of language can be intercepted before any harm is done, and companies can stop leaks of proprietary information. Some of the disadvantages of employee monitoring are, as stated earlier, an employees feeling of lack of trust, a feeling of no privacy at work, and the possibility of employers being sued by employees for fear that their privacy has been violated. One type of violation that can occur happened to a Massachusetts college secretary while she was changing clothes in a place she thought was safe. (Kitchen, 2006). She felt violated because her boss never informed her that she was being videotaped.

Sure, there are the students in the front, attentively taking notes, eagerly soaking in information to be used to pass their next test and nothing more. Gazing over the sea of people, however, one couldn t help but notice the vast majority of people using some sort of digitaltechnology; a sleek new MacBook Pro alternating between Facebook political rants, a fantasy team on the verge of a winless season, and a slideshow of Ten Celebrities You Didn t Know Have Been Arrested . The majority of these typical college students, however much or little attention they paid to the lecture, will leave this class confident they have somewhat of a grasp on the material. Many researchers today would beg to differ, however; studies are being performed across the country linking multitasking in

In the poem, Frost reminisces on his childhood, and remembers it all too well. The poem is meant to help the reader to reflect on his /her own life and leave them wanting to treasure moments of the present more intensely. The poem encourages its readers to think about what great things lay ahead, while looking at the positive side of life. Although Frost knew the tree branches were bent because of the ice storms, he liked to look at things in a more analytical way. Throughout the poem, Frost imagines that a young boy would play on the birchtrees and climb Toward heaven, till the tree could bear no more (Line 56). Frost intends for his readers to look at things in a brighter perspective. It is obvious that the author has gotten old, and feels as if time went by too fast. Frost highlights the fact that the character longs to return to the time when he was a young boy, swinging on trees. Robert Frost uses Birches to express melancholy towards growing old and accepting death. The life of Robert Frost brought many disappointments and eventually accomplishments. Mr. Frost s life began on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California. During his childhood, he experienced the sadness and abuse of an alcoholic father. When he was only eleven years old, his father died at the young age of 34. As a young boy Frost played baseball, trapped animals and climbed

There were four pieces played in this concert; the first two were composed by Gershwin, the third by DvoЕ™ГЎk, and the fourth by Barber. Each of these people influenced music at the time, and helped to create more modern styles. DvoЕ™ГЎk was significant older and died before Gershwin and Barber s musical careers even began. These three men helped push America out of the classical period and expanded what people considered music. The roaring twenties were an age of shifting social behaviors and urbanization. Comparing Wealth In Beowulf And The Song Of Roland In the poems Beowulf and The Song of Roland, the authors chose to emphasize wealth as a reflection of the customs and traditions of the respective countries. Because both cultures favored heroic deeds, those who displayed the most heroic actions were appropriately rewarded in the form of material wealth. Generally, the more affluent members of society took on the responsibility of rewarding honorable actions because they had the means available to reward the soldiers. The king, sometimes called the ring giver, also dispersed wealth as a way to guarantee loyalty and bravery from his soldiers. The story of Beowulf begins with a short narrative of Shield Sheifson. Though he began as a foundling, he grew to be a great hero who was widely admired for his courageous actions and heroic achievements. During his funeral, the narrator states that ...they [Spear Danes] stretched their beloved lord in his boat, laid out by the mast, amidships, the great ring giver. Far fetched treasures were piled upon him, and precious gear. I never heard before of a ship so well furbished with battle tackle, bladed weapons and coats of mail. The massed treasure was loaded on top of him: it would travel far out into the ocean s sway. The decision to begin the story with Shield Shiefson was a way of introducing the theme of wealth and demonstrating the respect he received for his heroic achievements. The story goes on to tell of Beowulf s adventures, as he takes on various challenges in an attempt to make a name for himself and gain wealth through heroic deeds. Before receiving his reward, Beowulf presented king Hrothgar with Grendel s arm as proof of his victory during battle. After his second battle, he returned with Grendel s head as well as the hilt of the magical sword he used to kill Grendel s mother. The play incorporates both these ideas and uses them to depict two models of kingship that either hold fast to these concepts or deviate from them. This can be seen in how the throne of Scotland first falls from Duncan, the true king of Scotland at the beginning of the play, to Macbeth, who usurps the throne by killing Duncan, and then to Malcolm, the true heir to the throne who takes it from Macbeth at the conclusion of the play. It is the aim of this essay to compare these different models of kingship, show how they are represented through the characters of Duncan, Macbeth and Malcolm, as well as to show what the play suggests about the qualities that are necessary for a good king. The ideas of the Chain of Being and the Divine Right of the King refer to the Elizabethan belief that the King of the land is God s representative on Earth and is in charge of keeping the natural order (Donaldson et al. 2014, p. 15). Societal Values In Homer s Iliad And Women In Genesis The women in Homer s Iliad and the women in Genesis both exhibit the accepted societal values in a woman through their duties as wives, which typically consisted of obedience and the ability to sustain their husband s lineage. Rebekah and Andromache both assume their roles as wives, but sometimes act in ways outside of the what was considered normal in their society. Though both Rebekah and Andromache maintain the classic role of a wife, they occasionally contradict the expectations of how a womanshould behave by making decisions traditionally made by men. Through revolutionary behaviors demonstrated by both women, they grant themselves more authority and power in decision making, which in turn affects the fate of each woman s family. Both Andromache and Rebekah share a parallel in terms of their roles in carrying out the fate of their families, however what ultimately distinguishes one from the other is how successful they are at sustaining those roles. In the Iliad, Homer displays societal norms placed for wives through the actions of Andromache, yet at the same time, conveys her as having more power and involvement in the family than what was expected for a woman at the time to have. In her encounter with her husband, Hector, Andromache establishes one of her main roles of trying to manipulate fate (moira) through attempting to prevent him from returning to the war and facing his inevitable death. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, if it is not a theological tern, then why does it only appear in religious texts? This could just be a coincidence since there were a lot of these sort of books around and many of them have survived. Also, while these texts are about religion and worship, they were written not written for religious scholars but for common people, and they did not yet need a new set of theological terms in English because scholarly work was done in Latin with Latin words (Crystal 128). English was the language of the lower classes since the Norman invasion, but by the time Cursor Mundi was written, the French aristocracy in England had lost their original ties to France and were beginning to speak English. These aristocrats still used many French words for prestige, but among the lower classes, English was seen as the right and natural language and French as the language of oppression and foreignness (Watson 334). Cursor Mundi tries to be as English as posible, stating to its readers that it is about the love of Englis lede, / Englis lede of Engelande (qtd. in Watson 334) and goes on to the superiority of English over French. So we can conclude that damn was not a theological term since the first texts it appeared in, while religious in content, are not theological works, and, in fact, the exact opposite is true: these works deliberately use common language. Damn must have been thought of as an English word by the time it

They add that both of the philosophies are important as far as business and management research is concerned. It can be found that Saunders et al. (2009) divided the research philosophy into different clusters. They are positivism, interpretivism, pragmatism and realism. 1.2.1 Positivism The positivistic approach is the traditional approach of the natural scientist. This approach is considered as independent and also objective where research is undertaken in a value freeway and only the observable phenomena provide credible data (Saunders et al. 2009). Therefore in positivistic research the influence of the researcher on research is kept at the minimum possible way and the instruments and methods used for this should be enabling the researcher in this regard. The methodological underpinning of survey research and experimental studies is positivism. Scientific rigour of doing research is thus one of the characteristics of positivistic research (Jupp, 2006). Easterby Smith et al. (2012) state that positivist methods is usually based on the assumption that there is the presence of true
  • 37. Female Stereotypes In The Media Common female stereotypes found in the media have a powerful influence over how society views women and how women view themselves. What is the media portrayal of women today and how does this impact how young girls perceive themselves? With programs such as The Bachelor and Flavor of Love showing a dozen women competing for the attention of one man, often using their sexuality, magazine ads displaying a half naked femalebody to sell a fragrance or cosmetic product, and television commercials highlighting a womans thigh and butt to sell sneakers, it may be difficult for society not to be influenced by the overwhelming message to objectify women. Negative Female Stereotypes Female stereotypes in the media tend to undervalue women as a whole, and diminish them to sexual objects and passive human beings. According to research done by Children Now, a national organization trying to make children a public priority, 38% of female characters found in video games are wearing revealing clothing, 23% are showing cleavage. Magazine ads show a dismembered female body, with parts, instead of the whole, a practice that according to media activist, Jean Kilbourne, turns women into objects. Disney movies, from Beauty and The Beast to Aladdin show slender, unrealistically curvaceous, and quite vulnerable young women, who are dependent on male figures for strength and survival, not their own sense of empowerment. Media stereotyping of women as objects and helpless beings creates very low

Bell became fascinated with the idea of creating a telephone while inventing a harmonic telegraph. He hired his assistant, Thomas Watson, an electrician, to help him invent such a thing. As they drew closer and closer to success, Bell s investors filed a patent on the idea. Stories have it, that Alexander spilled a bottle of transmitting fluid, and said Mr. Watson, come here I want you. Watson not only heard this statement, but through the transmitter, thus accidentally finishing the invention. Bell and Watson were successful in creating the very first telephone transmitter. Transmitting one s voice was a huge deal back in this time.

First of all, a genetic marker is a gene or short sequence of DNA. Since the beginning of time our genetics have been changing constantly due to a lot of different aspects. Some causes of change include aging. As we get older our bodies chemicals change, we produce more and less of certain chemicals, for example; insulin. The changing of chemicals affect our body not just on the outside, but on the inside. It affects the way our genetic markers respond and can alter them. Some diseases are caused by a genetic mutation, or permanent change in one or more specific genes which can be caused by aging. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may be possible to pass down epigenetic changes to future generations if the changes occur in sperm or egg cells. Most epigenetic changes that occur in sperm and egg cells get erased when the two combine to form a fertilized egg in a process called reprogramming. This reprogramming allows the cells of the fetus to start from scratch and make their own epigenetic changes. However, scientists think that some of the epigenetic changes in parents sperm and egg cells may avoid the reprogramming process and make it through to the next generation. If this is true, things like the food a person eats before they conceive could affect their future child. Scientists now think epigenetics can play a role in the development of some cancers. For instance, an epigenetic change that silences a tumor suppressor gene, such as a gene that keeps the growth of the cell in check, could lead to uncontrolled cellular growth. Another example might be an epigenetic change that turns off genes that help repair damaged DNA, leading to an increase in DNA damage, which in turn, increases cancer risk. (US, National Institutes of Health) Another reason our genetic markers change over time is because we get diseases, also called a genetic disorder. A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by a change or mutation in an individual s DNA sequence. These mutations can be due to an error in DNA replication or due to environmental factors, such as cigarette smoke and
  • 41. Case Study Assessment At A Birmingham Podiatry Clinic Case study assessment. A 47 year old female patient attends a Birmingham podiatry clinic with callus and heloma durum presenting on the plantar surface of the 1st MTPJ of the left foot. The patient is generally fit and well, and requires routine treatment. To enable the podiatrist to treat callus and corn, they must first understand the biological process that leads to the pathology. Callus, or hyperkeratosis, a diffuse area of relatively even thickness (Lorimer et al.1997), is formed from hypertrophy of the superficial layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, and reduced desquamation rate causing the skin to increase layers and harden (Fig 1). In the early nineteenth century, the popular hero of the day was the romantic hero. Mary Shelly gives a great picture of this hero in her novel Frankenstein. She uses Victor Frankenstein, the creator of the famous Frankenstein s Monster as her character which embodies the traits of a romantic hero. The model was relatively new; however, Christopher Marlowehad written a character in the early fifteenth century which embodied the same characteristics. Clearly Victor is obsessed with locating and executing his creation. This particular obsession leads to further mental madness on his part and also to his death even after he is rescued by Robert Walton in the Arctic Sea. In Marlowe s masterpiece, Faustus is obsessed with learning. In and of itself, that is not a bad thing; however, this obsession with learning soon turns to obsession with the dark arts, magic, and the devil. He exclaims that he will live in speculation of this dark art as long as he can or till Mephistopheles return (Marlowe 14). He exclaims his obsession in his lair after he learns that he can use the dark arts to summon spirits. Later in the book, the Good Angel implores Faustus to lay that damned book aside and to gaze not upon it (Marlowe 55). The Good Angel is trying to cure Faustus of his obsession but ultimately he does not succeed. Faustus s obsession eventually leads to his famed deal with the devil in which he sells his soul to Lucifer for 24 years of Mephistopheles s power. This deal is clearly detrimental to his relationship with Christ and its roots trace back to his obsession with learning. When Frankenstein and Faustus experience the Internal battles that all romantic heroes face, Shelly and Marlowe are trying to show that there is a fine line between flawed and completely evil and that

Sexual Health in Civilization Essay examples Introduction Sexual and reproductive health deals with the state of complete physical, mental and social well being, not just the absence of disease or infrimity. The article points out that there needs to be a social impact on sexual and reproductive health services and for policy makers to be aware of these things so their can be funding for these programs and public education about it too. The reason why this is an interesting topic is because each society around the world has different groups of people who have their own or cultural view on when it comes to sexual health and illness as matter of fact not all cultures or groups are aware on how to prevent an unwanted pregnancy or have the knowledge of the transmission of sexually ...
