Parable Of The Sower By Octavia Butler
When the British first settled America there was a high need for labor to work the Tabaco fields. With
the help of the International Slave Trade the United States, Caribbean and South America had ample
amount of workers waiting to be bought. After time the International Slave Trade was disbanded and
farmers now had a self sustaining Slave Trade with in the United States. After Abraham Lincoln made
America a free nation all seemed to be looking up for minorities in the United States. Unfortunately
this is not the case. In the post apocalyptic book Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler set in mid

Second Paper #4 (Democracy)
A Proposition To Abolish Democracy
In the modern west, democracy is generally conceived as the most free regime. Democracy is uniquely
characterized by majority rule. This gives its citizens the privilege to vote, overturn, and motion, with
the purpose of best representing the desires of the population. Not only do societies strive for
democracy to gain political freedom, but also personal freedom. Traditionally, we equate government
intervention and regulation with harsh restrictions that devitalize our personal freedom, however,
according to Socrates; regulation is necessary in order to experience genuine freedom . In the
Republic, Socrates discusses his tripartite regime in which promotes optimal justice and happiness for
its citizens. However, if we fully accept Socrates republic, this does not necessarily mean we have to
reject democracy entirely. This idea will be furthered explored throughout the entirety of this essay.
While Socrates describes democracy as the fairest regime, he refutes this claim by exposing the
disastrous effect lack of structure has in a democracy, producing only spurious pleasures and,
therefore, failing to achieve Socrates s justice, (demonstrated in his republic) which produces genuine
pleasures that greatly benefit the individual and the city.
Socrates uses a democratic society as a foundation to build his republic. Socrates says,

Historical Anatomy And Scientific Anatomy
The history of anatomical illustration attracts the interest of both medical and art historians. Ludwig
Choulant published one of the earliest catalogues of anatomical illustrations in 1852. The Geschichte
und Bibliographie der Anatomischen Abbildung continued to attract attention as Mortimer Frank
revised and translated the catalogue in 1920 and in 1945 an expanded version was published which
remains a useful resource of early anatomical illustration. The 1852 edition included 43 woodcuts and
three chromolithographs to illustrate the entries which range from the earliest Arabic manuscript
illuminations to anatomical atlases published in Choulant s time. Choulant understands the history of
anatomic illustration to allow for an easy distinction between artistic and scientific anatomy. Artistic
anatomy according to Choulant idealises anatomical beauty and overlooks particulars for the sake of
perfection. Scientific anatomy and illustration has a didactic purpose, while artistic anatomy is not
intended to instruct anyone with the exception of other artists. Without doubt, scientific anatomy must
also generalise in order to teach anatomy, though it would be better at displaying the functions and
relative positions of organs than artistic anatomy, where the primary concern lies in musculature.
Choulant dedicates a large section of his study not the social history of medical illustration, which is
also included, but to specific examples from artists books and medical textbooks.

Body Stereotyping Within The Media
Mark LoPuzzo English 101 Mrs. Ball Senior Research Paper Body Stereotyping within the Media Of
course you could stand to lose a few pounds. This was said by an individual struggling with bulimia.
The public is presented with thin, tall, muscular, and perfectly fit people in the media such as
magazines or television shows, making people with a more natural body image feel insecure and
unpleased with their body type. The media is promoting body stereotypes and it is negatively affecting
the public. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may
negatively affect the male population. Body stereotyping in the media can lead to body dysmorphia.
Body dysmorphia is common among the younger generation because they are more adept at using
social media. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may
negatively affect the male population. The public blames the media and celebrities for supporting the
idea of the ideal body type. Both men and women want slim, fit bodies. But the media has turned both
genders against each other making it a competition, which is negatively affecting the public ( Body
image concerns more men than women, research finds ). According to Chris Godsey, emphasis on
male physical beauty in the media may contribute to negative body image in boys and young men. He
contends that repeated images of perfectly sculpted, hairless male torsos

Epilepsy Is A Central Nervous System Disorder ( Cns )
Introduction
Epilepsy is a central nervous system disorder(CNS) causing recurrent seizures and can only be defined
when there is at least one epileptic seizure.[1][2] John Hughlings Jackson, a notable British
neurologist proposed that epilepsy is an occasional, an excessive and a disorderly discharge of nervous
tissue . About 65 million people(1% of the human population) in the world have epilepsy and the
cases account for 80% in developing countries. [3][4] In this essay, the normal physiology of nerve
transmission in cerebral cortex and pathophysiology of epilepsy will be discussed. The mechanism of
action of valproate is also studied and how it leads to the treatment of epilepsy.
Normal Physiology of Nerve Tranmission in Cerebral Cortex
The body system that is affected by epilepsy is CNS which is consisted of the brain and the spinal
cord.[5] (Figure 1) Figure 1 The major divsions of CNS[5]
The brain has a part called the cerebral cortex(gray matter) which is made up of 3 to 6 layers of
neurons.[7] A neuron has three parts namely axon, dendrites and cell body.[6] Neurons are classified
as principal(projection) neurons and interneurons. Principal neurons transmit information to other
neurons in the brain and form excitatory synapses. Interneurons in the CNS transmit impulses locally
and form inhibitory synapse.[7] Two common types of pathways for these neurons include recurrent
feedback pathways and feed forward pathways.[9](Figure 2) `

Civic Engagement Papers
For my civic engagement project I interviewed a family friend, Rocio Ureno, who identifies herself as
Chicana. I asked her multiple questions connected to the text as well as how she identified herself as
Chicana. I came to realize that a lot of her life experiences connected to my families presentation
about Pachucas breaking norms in society and dealing with patriarchy as well. When I interviewed her
one of the questions I asked her was why and how she identified herself as Chicana. She responded by
saying that she was born in the U.S. but her parents and some of her siblings were born in Mexico, so
Mexican culture is incorporated in her family. She says that although she was born here, her Mexican
roots are still with her. Being Chicana ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rocio has dealt with patriarchy in her family, discrimination, and trying to break out of the norms for
Mexican American woman. She says despite there being obstacles and expectations to fulfill when
being Chicana, you just have to learn to balance both cultures and live the best of both worlds. I feel
lucky to be Chicana because I live my life as a proud American with Mexican roots. Rocio grew up
listening to Madonna and Vicente Fernandez. Although she was born here, she has not forgotten to
speak spanish. She speaks spanish at home to her children. Thats something I think is very important;
being able to communicate with your grandmother or older relatives that only speak spanish. Living in
the U.S. it s easy to lose your Mexican roots, especially because a lot of families now days are very
whitewashed . Embracing both sides is very important. Many Chicanos grow up with parents who
speak only english to them, so they completely forget how to speak spanish. After interviewing Rocio,
I ve seen her views on what it is to be a Chicana. I, myself could relate to certain things she was
telling me. I ve experienced some discriminative comments similar to the ones she s gotten. And, I too
have a father who isn t very open minded. It s not to that extent of her husbands, but I do know what it
feels like living with a very machismo type of father. Talking to her made me realize how important it
is to embrace both sides. I can see why she thinks

How Did The Enlightenment Influence Today
The Age of Reason came after the baroque age, when the people started the believe knowledge lead to
power. The new idea that knowledge was the key to success, along with other new ideas started a
movement called the Enlightenment. All of the new ways of thinking that started the Enlightenment
are the base for the ideas we have today. The Enlightenment took place during the time America was
part of the British colonies and the French were having a Revolution. New religions were also
produced from the Age of Reason and influence the United States of America today. The
Enlightenment brought the idea that one needed to be educated about the world around them, and that
still stands today. The Enlightenment had other trends, such as the middle ... Show more content on

The King had trouble keeping power, even with his horrible threats the people wanted power and the
Enlightenment made it possible for them to have power. The young King was one of the many
problems in France. The Kings immaturity influenced his reign, he let his lovers decide what was best
for the country instead of making the decision himself. Salons were made to have dinner at while
conversing with respected individuals. Women who opinion usually did not matter was more respected
in the salons as they were run by women. France had a crippling government and other countries
wanted to take advantage of them, forcing them into The Seven Years War. The colonies in North
America were taken by the British, so when the colonies fought for freedom in the American
Revolutionary War, France aided the colonies. France had a Revolution after the country became
finically unstable from it efforts in the American Revolution. The Revolution was led by the middle,
and lower working class. The working class had them most success when they murdered the King and
restored Christianity. The French Revolution was different than the American because they gave the
right to vote the all males of all races. Great Britain was the ideal place for Philosophers to thrive
because it was more stable than France. Great Britain also had a young and inexperienced King and
one allowed parliament the power to rule the country. The

Objections To Realism In The Theories Of International...
Objections to Realism
Even though realism finds itself deeply rooted in a utilitarian moral framework, critics arise as to such
an outlook remains immoral (it is wrong to apply) at best. A major opponent theory is liberalism.
Dismissing that conflicts are inevitable, liberals uphold that the spread of legitimate domestic political
orders will eventually bring an end to international conflicts.[ Scott Burchill, Liberalism in Theories of
International Relations, ed. Scott Burchill (New York: Palgrave, 2001), 35.] This approach involves
embedding notions of democracy, human rights, and free trade. As a result, states will avoid ideology
clashes and a universal state will emerge. Liberals might repudiate realism on its utilitarian ground: its
consequential nature and lack of universal moral code. In this section, I will defend realism against
some liberal criticism.
First, liberalism disapproves the consequential nature of realism, arguing that it treats human beings as
means in political games to secure state power. As Bernard Williams whom liberals would rely on
argued that utilitarianism requires impartiality which attacks an individual s integrity.[ Bernard
Williams, A Critique of Utilitarianism in Ethics: History, Theory, and Contemporary Issues, ed. Steven
M. Cahn and Peter Markie (New York: Oxford University Press, 2016), 559.] Utilitarianism, as
William continues, neglects the fact that practical deliberation is in every case first personal, and the
first person is not derivative or naturally replaced by the [impersonal] anyone. [ Bernard Williams,
Ethics and the Limits of Philosophy (London: Fontana, 1985), quoted in Sophie G. Chappell, Bernard
Williams , The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, https://plato.stanford.
edu/archives/spr2015/entries/williams bernard/.] Thereby, liberals endorse policies that respect every
person s integrity, prioritizing human rights to nation state s competitions of power.
A human rights based approach, however, may backfire. Completely banishing the notion of sovereign
states might risk more deaths, a fact which compromises the liberal prospect. The 2011 U.S. led
military intervention in Libya offers an example. The intervention aimed to save lives of peaceful

The Book Tale Of Despereaux
I chose the book Tale of Despereaux. The reason why is quite simple. I love this book and I always
have. This book, I feel like, has always understood, that is if books could understand, and I have
always had a deep connection with it and its characters. I have read this book several hundred times
and it will never ever get old to me. I could read it when I m fifty. This was my favorite book back in
the day, and now because of this assignment, I get to read it once more! I will never and can never
forget this book. Book one, Coda. This book is split up into four books, and here we will start off with
the reading of the first five chapters. Despereaux was the only surviving mouse out of all that were
born. He had great big ear for his size, and his eyes were open at birth. He got his name Despereaux
for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with everyone else in the mouse
community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and sisters picked on him quite often
for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never even let it bother him when his mother or
father called him a disappointment for his looks or his inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse.
His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to
teach Despereaux went in one ear and out the other. His sister even tried taking him to the library to
learn how to eat paper. But when Despereaux saw the paper he saw

plateau, flanked by mountain ranges that fall sharply off to narrow coastal plains in the west and east.
The two mountain chains, the Sierra Madre Occidental to the west and the Sierra Madre Oriental in

Managing Staff Versus Volunteer Staff
Questions 1: Managing Staff versus Volunteers
Foremost, managing volunteers differs from managing staff only to the extent of what the manager
desires. In other words, there is no difference unless the manager creates differences designed for
specific purposes and goals. Mangers need the ability to motivate volunteers and employees to work
together to reach common goals (Brudney Meijs, 2014). Hence, managers use their abilities to
organize, evaluate, supervise, and facilitate those around them whether it is staff or volunteers to reach
the organization s goals and occupational commitment (Claiborne, Auerbach, Lawrence, Liu,
McGowan, Fernendes, Magnano, 2011; Patti, 2008).
Just like staff members who came from various backgrounds, ... Show more content on

Although managing volunteers and paid staff are similar, there are a few differences. Most notably are
whether the agency provides liability insurance for volunteers and for the services they provide. For
example, an agency should have liability insurance for volunteers who provide clinical or legal
services. Yet, volunteers who provide services such as picking up trash or passing out agency
information packets may not require insurance. Insurance depends on the degree of services the
volunteers provide to the clients. If the state or licensing board requires an individual to be license to
provide services to clients, then managers should use that standard to gauge rather liability insurance
is needed. Again, managers should recognize and plan for what services are provided to clients so the
manager can accommodate for insurance requirements (Brudney Meijs, 2014).
The agency should also have disclaimers for the volunteers and clients. This will ensure that all parties
know that the volunteers should not be liable for services. If not, clients may be able to hold the
agency liable for the volunteers actions either through respondeat superior (vicarious liability NRS
§41.130) or agency law (an agent must have actual or apparent authority to bind a principal, Dixon v.
Thatcher, 103 Nev. 414 (1987)). Liability concerns are why it is important to use volunteer
organizations that specialize in particular services like the delivery

Socio Economic Class And Health Inequality
Socio economic class has been linked to health inequality ever since the mid 19 century, when
reported the living condition of the poor. Chadwick, E.1842 reported that the average life expectancy
in Bethnal Green was 45 for professional but only 16 for labourers. Concern about inequality within
the population in the early 20th century was offered as one major justification for the setting up of
National Health Service (NHS) based on the recommendation of the Beverage report (1942). The
health inequality still exists relating the socio economic (RG social class scale) and life expectancy. In
the late 20th, the Black Report (1980) confirmed that social class is the main cause of overall death
and the inequality gap between social classes strata appear to be widening. Townsend and Davidson
(1982) identified five most important factors of income; occupation, education, housing and lifestyle
affecting health. Of these factors occupation is one of the most accurate predictors of all life chance.
Social class model has three general categories: upper class, middle class and working class. In

The cell is the basic unit of life and is the smallest, simplest organism that can perform all of life s
functions. The cell was discovered in 1665 by Robert Hooke. The three types of cells are plant cells,
animal cells, and prokaryotic cells. These cells share many qualities but are also different in many
ways.
There are a few organelles that exist in all three types of cells. The first of these is the cell membrane
(also known as the plasma membrane). The plasma membrane is the outer boundary of the cell that
protects the cell from its surroundings. It is selectively permeable because it controls what enters and
exits the cell. Carl Naegeli and C. Cramer discovered the plasma membrane in 1855. The cytosol is
also present in the Plant, Animal, and Prokaryotic cells. The cytosol is the thick, gelatin like liquid in
the cell that accounts for almost 70% of its volume. The cytosol of a cell is the substance in which the
organelles are suspended and it provides the proper conditions for their function and movement. The
cytosol was discovered by Albert Claude, Christian de Duve, and George E. Palade in 1835. A third
structure contained in all three types of cells is the ribosome. Ribosomes are spherical in shape and are
made up of RNA and protein. They are often found on the endoplasmic reticulum. Ribosomes are
important in the manufacturing of proteins and are the site at

The Importance Of Technology In Online Education
With the surge in technological innovations in the past decade, technology has become an integral part
of everyday life, including in education. Educators are constantly discovering and seeking out new
ways to implement technology to the benefit of their students. One of the most critical areas in early
childhood education is the development of reading, and literacy continues to be one of the most
important subjects throughout all of education. This is why building that strong foundation in literacy
is so important, and online reading skill development is one of the newest endeavours into
encouraging this strong start. One of the most tested and implemented online programs is Headsprout,
as mentioned by Dr. Eckerman in lecture. Headsprout is an online program that is individualized for
each student and tailored for them to work at their own pace. It is implemented in elementary schools
and automatically adjusts to the needs of the students as they progress through the program. This is
extremely beneficial because in most cases, teachers do not have the time to devote to every child the
assistance they need in order to fully grasp the concepts they are learning. Every child learns at a
different pace and in different ways. By having a personal lesson plan for every student through the
headsprout program, they are able to develop better literacy skills in a shorter amount of time. The
European Journal of Psychology of Education describes a study that investigates how

The Government Bioethics Conspiracy Of The United States
World governments have frequently relied on unknowing participants and or prisoners of war for
experimentation. While these experiments range vastly concerning procedures, outcomes, and
justification, they all existed to outsmart international enemies efficiently. The government bioethics
conspiracy I researched is Project MKUltra. This was a secretive CIA program that experimented with
mind control, hallucinogenic drugs, and the behavioral engineering of humans from 1953 to 1973.
Because the program existed for a couple decades, it encompassed a wide range of experiments, types
of patients, and immense secrecy. More often than not, test subjects were not aware of tests to be
conducted and thought they were participating in standard medical tests at first. Despite the program
coming to a halt, many believe human experimentation is still ongoing and don t see a future without
secret government research. Project MKUltra was initiated by the CIA and the U.S. Army s CHemical
Corps in the early 1950 s and quickly became an immense project that covered over 80 institutions,
and involved hundreds of scientists. (Horrock, Nicholas M. (4 Aug 1977). 80 Institutions Used in

Brave New World And Brave New World
The 1920 s and the 1930 s brought about many changes in the world such as financial fluctuations and
advancements in technology. The novel Brave New World , by Aldous
Huxley, and the short story There Will Come Soft Rains , by Ray Bradbury, gives an excellent
presentation of futuristic elements and how world climate at the time affected how the author
perceived the future. Both of these stories paint a picture of a world where technology has advanced to
the point that it has negatively affected mankind. Using new historicism, this paper will explore the
different ideas and thoughts of the authors and how they got influenced by the historical events
happening in their time as well as the developing technologies. This paper will also explore how the
two stories, even though written on different decades, are very similar in nature through their views,
themes, and the ultimate effect on society.
Huxley writes the novel Brave New World in 1931 around the time technology rapidly replaced
workers jobs and made unemployment rates increase. This caused many people to take any job they
could get such as factory work. In the novel, Aldous Huxley describes a future world where every
single person is working in a factory and doesn t have a say rather or not they want to work there. The
novel shows Huxley sees the future as alienated and ruled by a God who controls every aspect of
people s lives. During this time Huxley writes his novel, the

Hypnotherapy is therapy that is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis.[citation needed]
The word hypnosis (from the Greek hypnos, sleep ) is an abbreviation of James Braid s (1841) term
neuro hypnotism , meaning sleep of the nervous system .
A person who is hypnotized displays certain unusual characteristics and propensities, compared with a
non hypnotized subject, most notably hyper suggestibility, which some authorities have considered a
sine qua non of hypnosis. For example, Clark L. Hull, probably the first major empirical researcher in
the field, wrote,
If a subject after submitting to the hypnotic procedure shows no genuine increase in susceptibility to
any suggestions whatever, there seems no point in calling him ... Show more content on

Whilst Braid differed in offering an explanation of hypnotitc effects that did not rely on supernatual
forces, he credited the methods used in hypnosis to the practice of Mesmerism. Braid said of the
subject:
Hypnotism might therefore not inaptly be designated, Rational Mesmerism, in contra distinction to the
Transcendental Mesmerism of the Mesmerists.[2]
In their original committee report on hypnotherapy, the British Medical Association (BMA), likewise,
made a point of condemning the occult theories of Mesmerism and sharply distinguishing them from
hypnotism.
The Committee, having completed such investigation of hypnotism as time permitted, have to report
that they have satisfied themselves of the genuineness of the hypnotic state. No phenomena which
have come under their observation, however, lend support to the theory of animal magnetism . (
Report on Hypnotism , British Medical Journal, 1892).
Whereas Mesmerism is a supernatural theory, hypnotism attempted to explain the same phenomena in
terms of psychology and physiology. As Braid puts it, it is a scientific and psycho physiological (mind
body) discipline.
There is no doubt that some individuals have suffered the ill effects of being involved in stage
hypnotic shows. Stage hypnotists use words like magic and control in an attempt to mystify the effects
of hypnosis. In addition, using various tests of hypnotic

Examples Of Archetypes In The Great Gatsby
Review: A young lion prince is born in Africa, thus making his uncle Scar the second in line to the
throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself King.
The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in
shame.
In the movie The Lion King, there are many different types of archetypes shown in many ways. The
archetypal pattern that is shown in the movie is end of childhood/loss of innocence. This pattern is
about the tragedy of growing up. This is demonstrated in the movie by the loss that Simba experiences
with his father. This would be recognized as an individual loss of innocence, because Simba had to
learn how to cope with the death of his father. In the movie, Simba would be classified as the hero. A
hero is usually the central character with courageous qualities, that must undertake a difficult task.
That is exactly what Simba does, he demonstrates this by stopping the antagonist, Scar. ... Show more

Post-Revolutionary War Dbq
From one perspective war has always been the same, technology may improve or philosophies may
change, but wars are started by those in power and fought by the poor. The results now may be
somewhat different from 1775, post Revolutionary war time with rebellions like Shay s Rebellion, but
the various reasons for the poor to join the military have stayed relatively the same. In 1775,
Revolutionary leaders quickly found that in order to win the war they would need to accept soldiers
other than white property owners, so they turned to white poor and middle class. The only problem
now for the leaders was convincing the people that their cause was worth fighting for, and to persuade
them they promised the poor the opportunity to rise in both rank, and social statues. Next, they offered
them pay, and once they had increased their rank and the war was over they may be able to obtain
superior jobs them before. Howard Zinn says In fact, the military became a place of promise for the
poor, who might rise in rank, acquire some money, and change their social status. (1) Finally, they
offered them adventure and self fulfillment of service. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gap Model Approach Towards Measuring Customer Satisfaction
Introduction This report is based on The Northern Breast Screening Unit (NBSU) and its aim is to
critically evaluate the use of the GAP model approach towards measuring customer satisfaction. It will
further explain the advantages and disadvantages of this tool for managers to measure service delivery
at NBSU. Further, it will assess the quality of the service which is being provided by NBSU based
upon the results of their recent patient satisfaction survey. Furthermore, it will compare and contrast
the different perceptions of the service received by the two patient groups. It will also explore how the
three staff members differ in their understanding of the patient s priorities and perceptions. Finally,
recommendations will be made to NBSU management to help improve their service quality
management. Gap Models A GAP model approach refers to the following five Gaps of service quality
in operations in which a Gap Model is split. (Parasuraman et al, 1985). Gap number one, positioning,
is where the customer s expectations of the organisation versus what are the management perceptions
of these customer expectations. Gap number two, specification, is when management perceptions of
the customer s expectations versus the design of service specification. Gap number three, delivery, is
the service designed for customers versus the actual service being delivered to the customer. Gap
number four, communication, is the service being delivered versus the service that was

Managing Virtual Teams
Managing Virtual Teams
1. Introduction
Virtual teams have emerged to mitigate the challenges of managing teams that are distributed across
different regions, and are a sustainable component of global business. A project manager managing a
virtual team would have to integrate communication strategies, project management techniques
including human and social processes in order to support the team, (Kimball, 1997). The author is a
project manager assigned to lead a virtual team of 300 volunteers located across the globe to develop
recommendations for regulating carbon emissions in the world. As indicated Kimball (1997), this kind
of a virtual team usually supports people working in the same professional field and most of the ...

This would minimize the crossing of time zones and the process can increase team effectiveness. The
author, as a project manager can establish a common time to interact face to face through video

b) Different cultural and language issues
Working with 300 individuals from across the globe requires a project manager to be aware of
different cultural and language issues. These individuals would have different ways of working,
thinking and also reporting differently. Integrating the work that has been submitted would be a
challenge as there will be no time to develop a common language. In order to solve this issue the team
needs to develop an open culture so that everyone can openly share information and not tolerate a
blame game.
c) Learning the new technology
It will be a problem if team members do not understand the virtual working process, which can hinder
communication therefore affecting team relationships. Team members must be oriented to the virtual
working process before the project commence so that they have enough time to ask. The author should
develop a support mechanism for the team to use when experiencing difficulties.
4. Motivating individuals to archive the project goal
These volunteers can be motivated by highlighting to them that, this is an opportunity for them to

I Believe In Making Bed Research
I Believe in Making My Bed Every Morning I believe in making my bed every single morning. There
is nothing like pulling my heavy, warm comforter neatly over my wrinkled sheets. Making my bed
starts my day, leaving a renewed and wholesome feeling when I haphazardly sprint out the door in the
morning to catch my bus. I can t seem to get anything done unless I make my bed. This odd ritual
came about when I was spending the summer at my grandparents. Our house had just flooded, and we
were left in distress until we received a text from my grandma offering us a place in their home.
Needless to say, we abused that offer.. We remained in her home for three months and everyday she
would pester me about the unmade bed that I left without a thought ... Show more content on

In making my bed, it meant that no matter what accomplishment, big or small, was worth being proud
of. What better way to proudly display an accomplishment than a bed. Afterall a bed is the center of
attention in a room. It is the epitome of perfection in a room, the cherry on top if you will. After all it
is called the BEDroom, the only room in the house that requires a bed. The first thing someone notices
when they walk into a bedroom room is the bed, its size, color, placement. The way someone makes
their bed says a lot about their personality. Tucked corners, or folded comforter, to fluffed pillows and
satin sheets. The way someone makes their bed gives them control of something in their life. Had a
bad day at work? No worries, you made your bed. Fail a test? Well atleast you accomplished one
thing. Making your bed means your day, no matter how bad, weird, or depressing, was not a complete
failure. I remember one day I was having an awful day. I was late, failed a test, got in trouble, and was
grounded. My mom, after yelling at me through clenched teeth and giving me an excruciatingly long
lecture, asked me what she was going to do with me. I couldn t help but smile and respond

For This Film Analysis, I Viewed Two Movies. The Films
For this film analysis, I viewed two movies. The films viewed were Boys Don t Cry and A Soap. The
movies viewed had the common theme of sexuality. The 2 films both had themes regarding sexuality
and trangenderism. With that my thesis is, Sexuality and its affects and reactions in regards to
interpersonal and familial relationships.
To begin we start we the film that was viewed first, Boys Don t Cry. Boys Don t Cry offers an insight
to the impressions of sexuality and transgenderism in the 1990 s. Five minutes into the film it shows
Brandon Teena being chased by a mob of angry guys calling him a dyke (for him having slept with
one of the men s sisters ). That already shows there is hostility towards homosexuality and
transgenders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moving past this film onto the second film, A Soap, we find a more obvious contrast to the
environment set up in Boys Don t Cry. The main thing being there is no outright or violent hostility to
out transgender character. This film featured a male to female pre op transsexual Veronica. She can
basically walk around and talk to her neighbors wearing women s clothing and doesn t get any actual
hostility for it. The other main character Charlotte does occasionally poke fun with witty remarks but
it appears to be more in good fun than any actual disdain. The only time her language toward Veronica
becomes hostile is when she develops conflicting romantic feelings toward her and is drunk. But
essentially all other contact is cordial.
Same goes for familial interaction. The there is more of an air of disapproval in those conversations.
The mother does appear to still accept Veronica as her child for most of the movie. There is no
screaming match or violent undertones in their meeting. You can still tell the mother does have
resignations by still calling Veronica by her male name and by the fact that Veronica does not appear
to be wanted at family holidays like birthdays. Despite this she does still appear to care for her child
by visiting often and bringing gifts. And when she finds Charlotte in Veronica s home she does not
appear to condemn her presence but asks of her to watch over

##pretation In Sonnets 18 By Kenneth Rexroth s Sonnet 18
Sonnet 18 by William Shakespeare is one of his seminal works, in which he compares his mistress to
many things that occur amongst nature. He says that she is more lovely and more temperate (than that
of a summer s day). There is no more grandiose metaphor than that of nature for nature has crafted its
beauty for epochs amongst the fiery hell that was the beginning of life. Even though nature is the
epitome of beauty, it s still imperfect or just simply, inconvenient. With this, he begins to negate the
natural world by saying that rough winds shake the buds of May, summer is too short, the sun is
sometimes too hot (or hides behind the clouds) and that everything that is beautiful will at one point
lose its beauty: but hark! Not his fair mistress! The volta in the poem brings a critical juxtaposition. It
highlights the important fact that his mistress supersedes all of the annoyances of nature. He says that
her youth shall not fade nor shall her beauty for the mere fact that she will live amongst the lines of his
humble composition for as long as there are humans, the poem itself shall live on, rendering his
mistress an immortal. All of this accumulates and proclaims a powerful statement of romantic
transcendence beyond death. Meanwhile, Your Birthday in the California Mountains (YBITCM)by
Kenneth Rexroth is a sort of quaint and passionate elegy for a late lover. Rexroth begins with
evocative and stimulating imagery of a scenic nature background during a dinner date. He

Pro Choice Vs Pro Life Essay
The terms pro life and pro choice basically comes down to the question of whether a person wants to
see abortion banned or not. But as black and white we may want it to be, there s more to the debate
(Head). The Roman Catholic Church and a wide range of other religions disallows abortion,
euthanasia, the death penalty and war (Head). When a person is pro life , you can say that individual
believes the government has an obligation to preserve all human life, despite intent, viability, or
quality of life concerns (Head). So basically if a girl or woman was raped and got pregnant, it would
be illegal to get an abortion. Another situation would be a pregnant woman s life is at risk if she goes
through with the pregnancy. That person would technically be fines or go to jail for wanting to save
her own life as opposed to keeping the baby and possibly dying. ... Show more content on

When someone is pro choice , that person wants independence with respect to their own reproductive
systems as long as they do not violate the autonomy of others (Head). Pro choice supporters assert
strongly that celibacy and abstinence; Contraception use; Emergency contraception use; Abortion, for
the first two trimesters of pregnancy; and Childbirth to remain legal (Head).I find it very disturbing
that people are willing to abort a child from second trimester to child birth. I find it unethical and
inhuman. Unless that mother has 90 percent chance of dying by keeping the child, they should then
have the choice of going through with it or getting an abortion. I personally think if someone wants to

Joran Van Der Sloot Biography
A week after Holloway s disappearance, police arrested the last men seen with Holloway: Joran Van
der Sloot, Deepak Kalpoe, and Satish Kalpoe. In the beginning, the stories of all three men matched.
They stated that they all went to the beach and eventually dropped Holloway back off at the Holiday
Inn. However, this claim was proven to be false after video tapes were reviewed showing that the
Kalpoe car never went to the hotel (Joran van der Sloot Biography, 2016).
The two Kalpoe brothers then changed their story and told authorities that Holloway made them leave
her and Joran van der Sloot at a fishermans hut on the beach nearby. The brothers went on to say that
they never heard from Natalee again (Joran van der Sloot Biography, 2016).

They also arrested his father on the belief that he helped dispose of the body and helped to coach the
testimony of the three men. With no evidence they could be held on, and because of the fact Joran s
father was affluent, authorities had to release the men (Joran van der Sloot Biography, 2016).
Over the course of the investigation, several individuals were arrested and questioned. The stories of
the three main figures, the Kalpoe brothers and Joran van der Sloot, changed continuously, especially
that of Joran. A complete timeline taken from Crime and Investigation.com shows a more
understandable timeline (Natalee Holloway: Missing in Aruba, 2015).
24 May 2005 Holloway graduates from Mountain Brook High School and leaves for a five day trip to
Aruba
30 May 2005 Holloway leaves Carlos n Charlie s bar around 1 am and is last seen getting into a car

Holocaust Paper
Holocaust Paper
The Holocaust was one of the most tragic events in history which ended many innocent Jewish lives.
Six million Jews plus many more were completely wiped out due to the effects of the Holocaust. It is
still unforgivable for the things the Nazi party did and is still a very questionable subject on how they
were able to accomplish such devastation. To be able to organize the removal of an entire population
of people based on their religion not only takes high intelligence, but most of all takes a very twisted
and demented outlook on life. Learning about the holocaust and the people involved is very important,
as well as how it has affected our world today. There are many very fascinating things about the
holocaust but three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When there are bad people doing evil things in the world, we are often surprised because it is hard to
believe that someone can be so awful, being that most people of the world are so kind and warm
hearted. That being said, we do not want to believe our eyes when awful people decide to terrorize the
world. We just can t understand how some people can be so cruel, so we are always very surprised
when bad people do evil things in the world.
Lastly, another fascinating thing about the Holocaust is whether or not people have moved on from the
Holocaust and considered it old news in today s world. Many people believe that in today s world, we
have moved on from the holocaust and considered it old news . In my opinion we have definitely not
moved on or forgotten the Holocaust, how could we? The Holocaust was such a catastrophic event
that changed the world forever. It will never be forgotten. In many ways the Holocaust is so disturbing
but I m glad to know about it. Hitler was wrong for killing the Jews because all people should be
treated the same. It s horrible how no one back then knew anything. And even though some did have
their suspicions, they never did anything...the whole thing is sick, horrible, and terribly sad. Centuries
from now people will still remember the Holocaust because it was a major event in history when
millions of Jews and others were murdered, there for it will never be forgotten. We need to remember

EBT Task 2
A1. Procedure
The preoperative procedure of using with chlorhexidine alcohol (CHG) before surgery has been
proven to be more effective to reduce the number of surgical site infections (SSI) than the use of
povidone iodine. By reducing the number of infections post surgery, it can lower patient morbidity and
can reduce hospital stay time and eliminate further unnecessary costs.
A2a. Basis for Practice (who determined )
The basis for changing the method of using chlorhexidine alcohol bath before all surgeries and not just
the open heart patients.

A4. Clinical Implications on patients
If all patients were bathed/showered preoperatively with an antiseptic, it would reduce the risk of
SSIs. This would benefit the patient with shorter time spent on a critical care unit, would reduce the
mortality rate and can reduce the readmission rate . Bathing/showering would mean an extra step for
the patient and the nurse with added cost for the antiseptic chlorhexidine wash but it serves as added
protection in the prevention of post surgical infection.
Before bathing/showering with soap and water prior to a procedure/surgery was accepted. It has been
proven that antiseptic showering decreases skin microorganism count. Chlorhexidine gluconate
products necessitate the need for several applications for the maximum antimicrobial benefit. Thus,
each patient receives two preoperative antiseptic showers.
Patient will be instructed to shower/bathe at home and educated not to use any perfume and/or lotion
after.

Sweetness and Power Essays
Sweetness and Power Sweetness and Power: The Place of Sugar in Modern History
Some of the most brilliant minds have made many unorthodox suggestions. This is the case with
Sidney Mintz s thesis in Sweetness and Power: The Place of Modern History. Mintz s suggestions that
industrial capitalism originated in the Caribbean sugar plantations may seem to contradict the
European version of world history fed to most of the Western world, but is nevertheless supported by
substantial evidence. In general, Western education has conditioned students to believe that everything
productive originated in Europe.
Mintz begins by explaining the process of obtaining granular sugar from the liquid extracted from the
sugar cane. There was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to factory workers, cheap labor was used for mass production of commodities to meet the
growing demand.
As a result, Mintz completely transformed my ideas on industrial capitalism. As a consumer and lover
of sugar, I have now given a considerable amount of thought to the sugar that I consumed so often.
The extent to which the Caribbean people and land were exploited is unfathomable. When speaking of
a plantation , Americans usually think and refer to the cotton plantations in the South. Even those
Americans with roots in the Caribbean are completely unaware of the exploitation of their land and
people. The long term effects of this exploitation led to the underdevelopment of these Caribbean
countries. These effects are still evident today as most of the Caribbean islands are labeled as Third
World Countries .
In addition, Mintz mentions the separation of the production from consumption. The Major consumers
of sugar were not the hard workers on the plantation, but the far removed citizens of England. The
plantation workers were not able to profit from the fruit of

Tony Kushner s Angels Of America
Tony Kushner s Angels in America and Mwaganu wa Kaggia s Not Ashamed but so Ashamed both
explicitly address the social, religious, and political stigma associated with HIV/AIDS and
homosexuality. The use of split scenes in Angels in America allows Kushner to demonstrate the
similar ways in which both Joe and Prior respond to alienation despite having distinct personal
conflicts. The two characters societal and personal dilemmas are most evidently intertwined in Act 2,
Scene 9 of the play. In a similar manner, by using repetition of the phrases I m HIV positive and I am
so ashamed , Kaggia s poem confronts the ironic notion that it is not the nature of illness that causes
suffering; rather it is the persistent stigmatization of HIV/AIDS that continuously impedes any attempt
to end this epidemic. The dramatic techniques shown in both texts are strategically used by the authors
to emphasize the influences that social, religious, and political stigmatization have on individuals with
HIV/AIDS and those openly disclosing their homosexuality.
Compared to other split scenes in Angels in America , Act 2, Scene 9 is furiously explosive as both Joe
and Prior simultaneously confront their partners with their personal dilemmas. During Joe s encounter
with Harper, he struggles to identify himself as a homosexual. Joe reveals lack of confidence in his
self identity when he says to Harper: You want the truth. This is the truth. I knew this when I married
you...I don t know, I

Antowne Fisher
Antwone Fisher
10/27/2012
Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist, stated the first stage of human development is one of the
most important. Because an infant is entirely dependent upon his or her caregivers, the quality of care
plays an important role in the shaping of the child s personality. In the case of Antowne Fisher, with
his unfortunate circumstance of the death of his father and the incarceration of his mother, he lacked
the care and love only parents can provide. However, once he entered the foster care system, Mrs.
Nellie Strange, a savior of sort and his foster mother, became the tool in his development through the
first stage of Erickson s stages of development. It is evident within the first ... Show more content on

Through the use of inconsistent and inappropriate rewards and punishments, Mizz Pickett introduces
in Antwone s life a lack of hope and nothingness. A vivid event, though quite tame in comparison to
the abuse, is one in which the Pickett foster children go trick or treating. Upon returning with joy
every child has during trick or treating, Mizz Pickett demands of them all the candy they received
placed in the box. Then, wiping her hands together first, Mizz Pickett slams the lid shut on the metal
box and slaps on a Master lock. Now, she says...Here it hits me she ain t gonna let us have none. I ve
give ya some uh dis here candy when you deserve some...and not until (Fisher, p. 54). It goes without
saying; there never came a situation where Mizz Pickett felt the children deserved any of the candy.
For Antwone, occurrences such as this would compromise his sense of initiative over guilt creating
fundamental inadequacy; a mark which would have detrimental effects later in his life. Antwone
Fisher s first two years of care from Mrs. Strange has manifested itself into a vital landmark in his
early years of development. More specifically, Antwone s development of the brain, physically and
cognitively provides the concrete evidence to support Erikson s stages of development. According to
Erikson s model, the stages prior school age include infancy and toddlerhood. During the infancy
period, a child s central process includes mutuality with

This chapter is about the software language and the tools used in the development of the project. The
platform used here is .NET. The Primary languages are C#, VB, and J#. In this project C# is chosen
for implementation. 5.2. DOTNET 5.2 .1 INTRODUCTION TO DOTNET Microsoft .NET is a set of
Microsoft software technologies for rapidly building and integrating XML Web services, Microsoft
Windows based applications, and Web solutions. THE .NET FRAMEWORK The .NET Framework
has two main parts: 1. The Common Language Runtime (CLR). 2. A hierarchical set of class libraries.

There are also efficient means of converting value types to object types if and when necessary. The set
of classes is pretty comprehensive, providing collections, file, screen, and network I/O, threading, and
so on, as well as XML and database connectivity. The class library has a number of namespaces,
having different functionalities, with minimum dependency between them. LANGUAGES
SUPPORTED BY .NET The multi language capability of the .NET Framework and Visual Studio
.NET enables developers to use their existing programming skills to build all types of applications and
XML Web services. The .NET framework supports new versions of Microsoft s old favorites Visual
Basic and C++ (as VB.NET and Managed C++), but there are also a number of new additions to the
family. Managed Extensions for C++ and attributed programming are just some of the enhancements
made to the C++ language. Managed Extensions simplify the task of migrating existing C++
applications to the new .NET Framework. C# is Microsoft s new language. It s a C style language that
is essentially C++ for Rapid Application Development . Unlike other languages, its specification is
just the grammar of the language. It has no standard library of its own, and instead has been designed
with the intention of using the .NET libraries as its own. Microsoft Visual J# .NET provides the easiest
transition for Java language developers into the world of

With the help of the International Slave Trade the United States, Caribbean and South America had ample amount of workers waiting to be bought. After time the International Slave Trade was disbanded and farmers now had a self sustaining Slave Trade with in the United States. After Abraham Lincoln made America a free nation all seemed to be looking up for minorities in the United States. Unfortunately this is not the case. In the post apocalyptic book Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler set in mid 2020 s touches upon a world where there is still slavery, with the same evil but with a different face. Through this essay we will be looking at the comparisons of the Hispanic farmworkers rights movement in the 1960 s and 1970 s and the world Octavia Butler has produced through her book expanding on the idea that that modern day slavery has not disappeared. In the book Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, we follow the life of Lauren Olamina. Living under her Baptist Minister father Lauren finds her own religion Earthseed. • 3. Social And Political Thought Sriya Siems Classics of Social and Political Thought Mr. Ellison SOSC 15100 Second Paper #4 (Democracy) A Proposition To Abolish Democracy In the modern west, democracy is generally conceived as the most free regime. Democracy is uniquely characterized by majority rule. This gives its citizens the privilege to vote, overturn, and motion, with the purpose of best representing the desires of the population. Not only do societies strive for democracy to gain political freedom, but also personal freedom. Traditionally, we equate government intervention and regulation with harsh restrictions that devitalize our personal freedom, however, according to Socrates; regulation is necessary in order to experience genuine freedom . In the Republic, Socrates discusses his tripartite regime in which promotes optimal justice and happiness for its citizens. However, if we fully accept Socrates republic, this does not necessarily mean we have to reject democracy entirely. This idea will be furthered explored throughout the entirety of this essay. While Socrates describes democracy as the fairest regime, he refutes this claim by exposing the disastrous effect lack of structure has in a democracy, producing only spurious pleasures and, therefore, failing to achieve Socrates s justice, (demonstrated in his republic) which produces genuine pleasures that greatly benefit the individual and the city. Socrates uses a democratic society as a foundation to build his republic. Socrates says, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Historical Anatomy And Scientific Anatomy The history of anatomical illustration attracts the interest of both medical and art historians. Ludwig Choulant published one of the earliest catalogues of anatomical illustrations in 1852. The Geschichte und Bibliographie der Anatomischen Abbildung continued to attract attention as Mortimer Frank revised and translated the catalogue in 1920 and in 1945 an expanded version was published which remains a useful resource of early anatomical illustration. The 1852 edition included 43 woodcuts and three chromolithographs to illustrate the entries which range from the earliest Arabic manuscript illuminations to anatomical atlases published in Choulant s time. Choulant understands the history of anatomic illustration to allow for an easy distinction between artistic and scientific anatomy. Artistic anatomy according to Choulant idealises anatomical beauty and overlooks particulars for the sake of perfection. Scientific anatomy and illustration has a didactic purpose, while artistic anatomy is not intended to instruct anyone with the exception of other artists. Without doubt, scientific anatomy must also generalise in order to teach anatomy, though it would be better at displaying the functions and relative positions of organs than artistic anatomy, where the primary concern lies in musculature. Choulant dedicates a large section of his study not the social history of medical illustration, which is also included, but to specific examples from artists books and medical textbooks. ... • 5. Body Stereotyping Within The Media Mark LoPuzzo English 101 Mrs. Ball Senior Research Paper Body Stereotyping within the Media Of course you could stand to lose a few pounds. This was said by an individual struggling with bulimia. The public is presented with thin, tall, muscular, and perfectly fit people in the media such as magazines or television shows, making people with a more natural body image feel insecure and unpleased with their body type. The media is promoting body stereotypes and it is negatively affecting the public. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may negatively affect the male population. Body stereotyping in the media can lead to body dysmorphia. Body dysmorphia is common among the younger generation because they are more adept at using social media. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may negatively affect the male population. The public blames the media and celebrities for supporting the idea of the ideal body type. Both men and women want slim, fit bodies. But the media has turned both genders against each other making it a competition, which is negatively affecting the public ( Body image concerns more men than women, research finds ). According to Chris Godsey, emphasis on male physical beauty in the media may contribute to negative body image in boys and young men. He contends that repeated images of perfectly sculpted, hairless male torsos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Epilepsy Is A Central Nervous System Disorder ( Cns ) Introduction Epilepsy is a central nervous system disorder(CNS) causing recurrent seizures and can only be defined when there is at least one epileptic seizure.[1][2] John Hughlings Jackson, a notable British neurologist proposed that epilepsy is an occasional, an excessive and a disorderly discharge of nervous tissue . About 65 million people(1% of the human population) in the world have epilepsy and the cases account for 80% in developing countries. [3][4] In this essay, the normal physiology of nerve transmission in cerebral cortex and pathophysiology of epilepsy will be discussed. The mechanism of action of valproate is also studied and how it leads to the treatment of epilepsy. Normal Physiology of Nerve Tranmission in Cerebral Cortex The body system that is affected by epilepsy is CNS which is consisted of the brain and the spinal cord.[5] (Figure 1) Figure 1 The major divsions of CNS[5] The brain has a part called the cerebral cortex(gray matter) which is made up of 3 to 6 layers of neurons.[7] A neuron has three parts namely axon, dendrites and cell body.[6] Neurons are classified as principal(projection) neurons and interneurons. Principal neurons transmit information to other neurons in the brain and form excitatory synapses. Interneurons in the CNS transmit impulses locally and form inhibitory synapse.[7] Two common types of pathways for these neurons include recurrent feedback pathways and feed forward pathways.[9](Figure 2) ` ... • 9. Objections To Realism In The Theories Of International... Objections to Realism Even though realism finds itself deeply rooted in a utilitarian moral framework, critics arise as to such an outlook remains immoral (it is wrong to apply) at best. A major opponent theory is liberalism. Dismissing that conflicts are inevitable, liberals uphold that the spread of legitimate domestic political orders will eventually bring an end to international conflicts.[ Scott Burchill, Liberalism in Theories of International Relations, ed. Scott Burchill (New York: Palgrave, 2001), 35.] This approach involves embedding notions of democracy, human rights, and free trade. As a result, states will avoid ideology clashes and a universal state will emerge. Liberals might repudiate realism on its utilitarian ground: its consequential nature and lack of universal moral code. In this section, I will defend realism against some liberal criticism. First, liberalism disapproves the consequential nature of realism, arguing that it treats human beings as means in political games to secure state power. As Bernard Williams whom liberals would rely on argued that utilitarianism requires impartiality which attacks an individual s integrity.[ Bernard Williams, A Critique of Utilitarianism in Ethics: History, Theory, and Contemporary Issues, ed. Steven M. Cahn and Peter Markie (New York: Oxford University Press, 2016), 559.] Utilitarianism, as William continues, neglects the fact that practical deliberation is in every case first personal, and the first person is not derivative or naturally replaced by the [impersonal] anyone. [ Bernard Williams, Ethics and the Limits of Philosophy (London: Fontana, 1985), quoted in Sophie G. Chappell, Bernard Williams , The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, https://plato.stanford. edu/archives/spr2015/entries/williams bernard/.] Thereby, liberals endorse policies that respect every person s integrity, prioritizing human rights to nation state s competitions of power. A human rights based approach, however, may backfire. Completely banishing the notion of sovereign states might risk more deaths, a fact which compromises the liberal prospect. In other words, there is no difference unless the manager creates differences designed for specific purposes and goals. Mangers need the ability to motivate volunteers and employees to work together to reach common goals (Brudney Meijs, 2014). Hence, managers use their abilities to organize, evaluate, supervise, and facilitate those around them whether it is staff or volunteers to reach the organization s goals and occupational commitment (Claiborne, Auerbach, Lawrence, Liu, McGowan, Fernendes, Magnano, 2011; Patti, 2008). Most notably are whether the agency provides liability insurance for volunteers and for the services they provide. For example, an agency should have liability insurance for volunteers who provide clinical or legal services. Yet, volunteers who provide services such as picking up trash or passing out agency information packets may not require insurance. Insurance depends on the degree of services the volunteers provide to the clients. If the state or licensing board requires an individual to be license to provide services to clients, then managers should use that standard to gauge rather liability insurance is needed. Again, managers should recognize and plan for what services are provided to clients so the manager can accommodate for insurance requirements (Brudney Meijs, 2014). The agency should also have disclaimers for the volunteers and clients. This will ensure that all parties know that the volunteers should not be liable for services. If not, clients may be able to hold the agency liable for the volunteers actions either through respondeat superior (vicarious liability NRS §41.130) or agency law (an agent must have actual or apparent authority to bind a principal, Dixon v. Pre Ap Biology Research Paper Hannah Porter Mr. Condo Pre AP Bio 1 November 4, 2014 Pre Ap Biology Research Paper The cell is the basic unit of life and is the smallest, simplest organism that can perform all of life s functions. The cell was discovered in 1665 by Robert Hooke. The three types of cells are plant cells, animal cells, and prokaryotic cells. These cells share many qualities but are also different in many ways. There are a few organelles that exist in all three types of cells. The first of these is the cell membrane (also known as the plasma membrane). The plasma membrane is the outer boundary of the cell that protects the cell from its surroundings. It is selectively permeable because it controls what enters and exits the cell. Carl Naegeli and C. Cramer discovered the plasma membrane in 1855. The cytosol is also present in the Plant, Animal, and Prokaryotic cells. The cytosol is the thick, gelatin like liquid in the cell that accounts for almost 70% of its volume. The cytosol of a cell is the substance in which the organelles are suspended and it provides the proper conditions for their function and movement. The cytosol was discovered by Albert Claude, Christian de Duve, and George E. Palade in 1835. A third structure contained in all three types of cells is the ribosome. • 25. Brave New World And Brave New World The 1920 s and the 1930 s brought about many changes in the world such as financial fluctuations and advancements in technology. The novel Brave New World , by Aldous Huxley, and the short story There Will Come Soft Rains , by Ray Bradbury, gives an excellent presentation of futuristic elements and how world climate at the time affected how the author perceived the future. Both of these stories paint a picture of a world where technology has advanced to the point that it has negatively affected mankind. Using new historicism, this paper will explore the different ideas and thoughts of the authors and how they got influenced by the historical events happening in their time as well as the developing technologies. This paper will also explore how the two stories, even though written on different decades, are very similar in nature through their views, themes, and the ultimate effect on society. Huxley writes the novel Brave New World in 1931 around the time technology rapidly replaced workers jobs and made unemployment rates increase. This caused many people to take any job they could get such as factory work. In the novel, Aldous Huxley describes a future world where every single person is working in a factory and doesn t have a say rather or not they want to work there. The novel shows Huxley sees the future as alienated and ruled by a God who controls every aspect of people s lives. During this time Huxley writes his novel, the 2 changes going on around him influenced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Debate Topics Hypnotherapy is therapy that is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis.[citation needed] The word hypnosis (from the Greek hypnos, sleep ) is an abbreviation of James Braid s (1841) term neuro hypnotism , meaning sleep of the nervous system . A person who is hypnotized displays certain unusual characteristics and propensities, compared with a non hypnotized subject, most notably hyper suggestibility, which some authorities have considered a sine qua non of hypnosis. For example, Clark L. Hull, probably the first major empirical researcher in the field, wrote, If a subject after submitting to the hypnotic procedure shows no genuine increase in susceptibility to any suggestions whatever, there seems no point in calling him ... Whilst Braid differed in offering an explanation of hypnotitc effects that did not rely on supernatual forces, he credited the methods used in hypnosis to the practice of Mesmerism. Braid said of the subject: Hypnotism might therefore not inaptly be designated, Rational Mesmerism, in contra distinction to the Transcendental Mesmerism of the Mesmerists.[2] In their original committee report on hypnotherapy, the British Medical Association (BMA), likewise, made a point of condemning the occult theories of Mesmerism and sharply distinguishing them from hypnotism. The Committee, having completed such investigation of hypnotism as time permitted, have to report that they have satisfied themselves of the genuineness of the hypnotic state. No phenomena which have come under their observation, however, lend support to the theory of animal magnetism . ( Report on Hypnotism , British Medical Journal, 1892). Whereas Mesmerism is a supernatural theory, hypnotism attempted to explain the same phenomena in terms of psychology and physiology. As Braid puts it, it is a scientific and psycho physiological (mind body) discipline. There is no doubt that some individuals have suffered the ill effects of being involved in stage hypnotic shows. Stage hypnotists use words like magic and control in an attempt to mystify the effects of hypnosis. In addition, using various tests of hypnotic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself King. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame. In the movie The Lion King, there are many different types of archetypes shown in many ways. The archetypal pattern that is shown in the movie is end of childhood/loss of innocence. This pattern is about the tragedy of growing up. This is demonstrated in the movie by the loss that Simba experiences with his father. This would be recognized as an individual loss of innocence, because Simba had to learn how to cope with the death of his father. In the movie, Simba would be classified as the hero. The results now may be somewhat different from 1775, post Revolutionary war time with rebellions like Shay s Rebellion, but the various reasons for the poor to join the military have stayed relatively the same. In 1775, Revolutionary leaders quickly found that in order to win the war they would need to accept soldiers other than white property owners, so they turned to white poor and middle class. The only problem now for the leaders was convincing the people that their cause was worth fighting for, and to persuade them they promised the poor the opportunity to rise in both rank, and social statues. Next, they offered them pay, and once they had increased their rank and the war was over they may be able to obtain superior jobs them before. Further, it will assess the quality of the service which is being provided by NBSU based upon the results of their recent patient satisfaction survey. Furthermore, it will compare and contrast the different perceptions of the service received by the two patient groups. Our house had just flooded, and we were left in distress until we received a text from my grandma offering us a place in their home. Needless to say, we abused that offer.. • 38. ##pretation In Sonnets 18 By Kenneth Rexroth s Sonnet 18 Sonnet 18 by William Shakespeare is one of his seminal works, in which he compares his mistress to many things that occur amongst nature. He says that she is more lovely and more temperate (than that of a summer s day). There is no more grandiose metaphor than that of nature for nature has crafted its beauty for epochs amongst the fiery hell that was the beginning of life. Even though nature is the epitome of beauty, it s still imperfect or just simply, inconvenient. With this, he begins to negate the natural world by saying that rough winds shake the buds of May, summer is too short, the sun is sometimes too hot (or hides behind the clouds) and that everything that is beautiful will at one point lose its beauty: but hark! Not his fair mistress! The volta in the poem brings a critical juxtaposition. It highlights the important fact that his mistress supersedes all of the annoyances of nature. He says that her youth shall not fade nor shall her beauty for the mere fact that she will live amongst the lines of his humble composition for as long as there are humans, the poem itself shall live on, rendering his mistress an immortal. All of this accumulates and proclaims a powerful statement of romantic transcendence beyond death. Bathing/showering would mean an extra step for the patient and the nurse with added cost for the antiseptic chlorhexidine wash but it serves as added protection in the prevention of post surgical infection. Before bathing/showering with soap and water prior to a procedure/surgery was accepted. It has been proven that antiseptic showering decreases skin microorganism count. Chlorhexidine gluconate products necessitate the need for several applications for the maximum antimicrobial benefit. Thus, each patient receives two preoperative antiseptic showers. Patient will be instructed to shower/bathe at home and educated not to use any perfume and/or lotion after. . A5. Changes on practice setting By

This is the case with Sidney Mintz s thesis in Sweetness and Power: The Place of Modern History. Mintz s suggestions that industrial capitalism originated in the Caribbean sugar plantations may seem to contradict the European version of world history fed to most of the Western world, but is nevertheless supported by substantial evidence. In general, Western education has conditioned students to believe that everything productive originated in Europe. Mintz begins by explaining the process of obtaining granular sugar from the liquid extracted from the sugar cane. There was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to factory workers, cheap labor was used for mass production of commodities to meet the growing demand. As a result, Mintz completely transformed my ideas on industrial capitalism. As a consumer and lover of sugar, I have now given a considerable amount of thought to the sugar that I consumed so often. The extent to which the Caribbean people and land were exploited is unfathomable. When speaking of a plantation , Americans usually think and refer to the cotton plantations in the South. Even those Americans with roots in the Caribbean are completely unaware of the exploitation of their land and people. The long term effects of this exploitation led to the underdevelopment of these Caribbean countries. These effects are still evident today as most of the Caribbean islands are labeled as Third World Countries . In addition, Mintz mentions the separation of the production from consumption. The Major consumers of sugar were not the hard workers on the plantation, but the far removed citizens of England. The plantation workers were not able to profit from the fruit of ... • 45. Tony Kushner s Angels Of America Tony Kushner s Angels in America and Mwaganu wa Kaggia s Not Ashamed but so Ashamed both explicitly address the social, religious, and political stigma associated with HIV/AIDS and homosexuality. The use of split scenes in Angels in America allows Kushner to demonstrate the similar ways in which both Joe and Prior respond to alienation despite having distinct personal conflicts. The two characters societal and personal dilemmas are most evidently intertwined in Act 2, Scene 9 of the play. In a similar manner, by using repetition of the phrases I m HIV positive and I am so ashamed , Kaggia s poem confronts the ironic notion that it is not the nature of illness that causes suffering; rather it is the persistent stigmatization of HIV/AIDS that continuously impedes any attempt to end this epidemic. The dramatic techniques shown in both texts are strategically used by the authors to emphasize the influences that social, religious, and political stigmatization have on individuals with HIV/AIDS and those openly disclosing their homosexuality. Compared to other split scenes in Angels in America , Act 2, Scene 9 is furiously explosive as both Joe and Prior simultaneously confront their partners with their personal dilemmas. During Joe s encounter with Harper, he struggles to identify himself as a homosexual. Joe reveals lack of confidence in his self identity when he says to Harper: You want the truth. This is the truth. I knew this when I married you...I don t know, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Antowne Fisher Antwone Fisher 10/27/2012 Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist, stated the first stage of human development is one of the most important. Because an infant is entirely dependent upon his or her caregivers, the quality of care plays an important role in the shaping of the child s personality. In the case of Antowne Fisher, with his unfortunate circumstance of the death of his father and the incarceration of his mother, he lacked the care and love only parents can provide. However, once he entered the foster care system, Mrs. Nellie Strange, a savior of sort and his foster mother, became the tool in his development through the first stage of Erickson s stages of development. It is evident within the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the use of inconsistent and inappropriate rewards and punishments, Mizz Pickett introduces in Antwone s life a lack of hope and nothingness. A vivid event, though quite tame in comparison to the abuse, is one in which the Pickett foster children go trick or treating. Upon returning with joy every child has during trick or treating, Mizz Pickett demands of them all the candy they received placed in the box. Then, wiping her hands together first, Mizz Pickett slams the lid shut on the metal box and slaps on a Master lock. Now, she says...Here it hits me she ain t gonna let us have none. I ve give ya some uh dis here candy when you deserve some...and not until (Fisher, p. 54). It goes without saying; there never came a situation where Mizz Pickett felt the children deserved any of the candy. For Antwone, occurrences such as this would compromise his sense of initiative over guilt creating fundamental inadequacy; a mark which would have detrimental effects later in his life. Antwone Fisher s first two years of care from Mrs. Strange has manifested itself into a vital landmark in his early years of development. More specifically, Antwone s development of the brain, physically and cognitively provides the concrete evidence to support Erikson s stages of development. According to Erikson s model, the stages prior school age include infancy and toddlerhood. During the infancy period, a child s central process includes mutuality with ... The Primary languages are C#, VB, and J#. In this project C# is chosen for implementation. 5.2. DOTNET 5.2 .1 INTRODUCTION TO DOTNET Microsoft .NET is a set of Microsoft software technologies for rapidly building and integrating XML Web services, Microsoft Windows based applications, and Web solutions. THE .NET FRAMEWORK The .NET Framework has two main parts: 1. The Common Language Runtime (CLR). 2. A hierarchical set of class libraries. 5.2.3 MANAGE CODE MANAGED CODE is a meta data. This provides a guaranteed secure execution and interoperability. 5.2.4 MANAGE DATA With Managed Code comes Managed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also efficient means of converting value types to object types if and when necessary. The set of classes is pretty comprehensive, providing collections, file, screen, and network I/O, threading, and so on, as well as XML and database connectivity. The class library has a number of namespaces, having different functionalities, with minimum dependency between them. LANGUAGES SUPPORTED BY .NET The multi language capability of the .NET Framework and Visual Studio .NET enables developers to use their existing programming skills to build all types of applications and XML Web services. The .NET framework supports new versions of Microsoft s old favorites Visual Basic and C++ (as VB.NET and Managed C++), but there are also a number of new additions to the family. Managed Extensions for C++ and attributed programming are just some of the enhancements made to the C++ language. Managed Extensions simplify the task of migrating existing C++ applications to the new .NET Framework. C# is Microsoft s new language. It s a C style language that is essentially C++ for Rapid Application Development . Unlike other languages, its specification is just the grammar of the language. It has no standard library of its own, and instead has been designed with the intention of using the .NET libraries as its own. Microsoft Visual J# .NET provides the easiest transition for Java language developers into the world of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
