Megaessays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Megaessays" can be a challenging task, primarily because the
term itself is not very specific. Megaessays could encompass a wide range of subjects, making it
difficult to narrow down the focus and define the scope of the essay. The challenge lies in
determining whether the essay should explore the concept of megaessays as a phenomenon, a
specific type of essay service, or something entirely different.
Additionally, the lack of widely recognized academic literature or established theories
specifically addressing "Megaessays" could pose difficulties in finding credible sources to
support arguments. Without a clear academic foundation, the writer may need to rely on more
general essay-writing principles and adapt them to the specific context of megaessays.
Moreover, if the essay aims to discuss the advantages or disadvantages of megaessays, the writer
might encounter challenges in gathering unbiased information, as the topic may be associated
with various opinions and perspectives.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of "Megaessays" can be demanding due to the broad
and undefined nature of the subject. Writers may struggle to find scholarly resources, maintain
focus, and present a well-structured argument. However, with thorough research and thoughtful
analysis, one can navigate these challenges and create an insightful piece on the subject.

Soccer Descriptive Speech
The crowd is stomping their feet chanting USA! USA! , trying to make as much
noise as they can despite their gloved hands and frozen feet. The entire stadium is
shaking as the fans show their support for our goalie who just laid out for a
stunning save. As we settle back into our seats, wrapping blankets back around our
shoulders, I hear from behind me, God is helping out between those poles tonight.
Yeah, he must be a U.S. Women s fan too cuz Lord knows the men s team is
terrible. This come from two middle aged women decked out in U.S. Soccer gear
sitting a row behind me. The group of people around them chuckle after hearing
this exchange. It s just a fact around here: the women play better. Just three months
later I walk into Jordan Field, home of the Boston Breakers, a professional women
s soccer team and as we walk towards the stands one of my friends jokes that even
our high school has a better stadium than this. The sun is beating down on me, I
squint up at the stands noticing how empty they are despite the small number of
seats. Once the game starts it s clear that the fans here are just as enthusiastic as
U.S. Women s National Team (USWNT) fans, there just happens to be a lot less of
them. I began to wonder how is it that 26,500 people are willing to stand in the
freezing cold to support the USWNT, but a professional women s soccer league that
runs in the middle of the summer only averages about 6,610 fans per game ( U.S.

Analysis Of Thanatopsis By William Cullen Bryant
Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant is a poem that I sense has the major themes
of overcoming the fear of death and being one with nature. Transcendentalist
writers usually have a circle effect of their work revolving around: God, nature, and
man. God can be seen in nature while man tries to become one with nature which
can be seen through the cycle of life. As a transcendentalist, he and other writers
accepted the concept of nature as a symbol. Nature in this poem is something that
is divine and can be seen as a getaway from society. In the beginning of the poem
Thanatopsis , the first few lines set the tone and mood for how the rest of them
poem will follow. You get a sense into what the rest of the poem will be like. Bryant
begins with:
To him who in the love of Nature holds
Communion with her visible forms, she speaks
A various language; for his gayer hours
She has a voice of gladness, and a smile
And eloquence of beauty (1 5).
Here, there is a man who has a relationship with nature in a religious sort of way.
Communion is usually what happens on the first Sunday of every month at church
involving the coming together of people to feast on bread and wine of God. The
communion is meant, here, as with nature s visible forms i.e. tress, grass, rocks, etc.
He wants to exchange his intimate thoughts with nature. She is speaking to him in
different ways but in a happy voice and smiles. I get a feeling that when nature smiles
and or is happy it means that everything is at peace and tranquility. You see beauty in
the things that nature has to offer. You tune out anything distracting and you become
one. Referring it to literature, he focused on emotions and imagination to where we
as the readers can to be connected. What s really interesting I thought was a couple of
lines down. Bryant really gives vivid imagery or imagination once again in the lines:
When thoughts
Of the last bitter hour come like a blight
Over thy spirit, and sad images
Of the stern agony, and shroud, and pall,
And breathless darkness, and the narrow house,
Make thee to shudder, and grow sick at heart (8 13).

Essay about The Great Hurricane of 1938
The Great Hurricane of 1938, or known to many as the Long Island Express, was
known as one of the most disastrous hurricanes to hit New England. It wasn t the
high winds, heavy rain, and high waves/storm surge that gave this hurricane its title
in history. The Great Hurricane had a fourth deadly weapon; the element of surprise.
It was the beginning of September, a time where many packed up their summer
clothes, boarded up their houses, and left to return back to the real world leaving
their summer homes behind. When symptoms of a storm approached New England,
many locals convinced themselves and others that it was just the normal line storm
which occasionally comes in September. It wasn t until Sept 21 that people realized

If conditions remain favorable, the depression may develop further into a tropical
storm and, later, into a full blown hurricane. (Genesis, 99). On page 34 of the book,
Sudden Sea, the author describes a discovery in the Sahara Desert. Meteorologists
noticed a slight shift in the wind; an area of unstable air was passing over northwest
Africa. Within a day or two it moved over the Atlantic Ocean to around the Cape
Verde Islands. This should have been the first sign to the Weather Bureau to watch
this particular storm. Although storms born off of the Sahara Desert were more
likely to become nothing, there was still a slight chance it would develop from the
unstable air combining with moisture built up from the heat of the equator off of the
islands.
The first mistake the Jacksonville s weather bureau made was to call all extra
relief workers and coast guards from New York and New England down to Florida
to prepare for the storm. While looking out and protecting Florida, they took many
needed hands from the northeast, which was hit harder. Their second mistake, a
more important one, was to assume this storm was another typical Cape Verde
hurricane because it began to veer northward. Those storms were known to curve
away from the tropics at first opportunity and head north for colder water where it
would soon die off before hitting the US. It followed this specific course by the
Bermuda High currents, a mass of dense dry air that dominates the weather in the

A Report on the Management of Change
Report on the Management of Change Part One: Case study 1. Introduction At the
beginning of 2012, Martin Scott, the CEO and half owner of Alhambra Software
Solutions, reflected on the situation of the company. He was proud that the
organization had followed an ascendant path throughout the previous years, and
had not been hit by the devastating effects of the internationalized economic crisis.
Alhambra Software Solutions had registered tremendous increases in employees,
revenues, as well as customers served and projects completed. From the outside, it
all looked impressive and the company seemed flawless. Still, Scott was worried
by the fact that two of his senior software developers had handed in their
resignations that morning. Michael Tors and Janine Moss had been with the
company since its early stages; they had grown within Alhambra Software
Solutions ever since they had graduated from university, to this day, when they are
reputable and valuable senior developers. The decisions of Tors and Moss
intrigued the chief executive officer, who had always believed that the firm had
created a positive working environment for its employees. Still, looking back, he
now realizes that Tors and Moss were not the single senior software developers who
left the firm. In fact, there were several seniors that had left the company in the past
year, and if he recollects well the majority of the new people hired, were mainly
junior developers. Reflecting on the situation,

The Americas And Afro Eurasia
In the late 1500 s the start of The Colombian Exchange and the settling of
Europeans in the Americas sparked a chain reaction of events that would forever
change the way we tell the history of that time. It also just may have altered the way
we advanced as a species and interacted with one another from that point on. There
were many changes that took place in everyday life in both the Americasand Afro
Eurasia because of the events of this time period. Some of them more obvious than
others, but all were important in their own respect.
Advances in technology included farming techniques, written alphabet, weapon
and firearm capabilities, and building techniques took place. Religion was also
brought from Afro Eurasia into the Americas for the first time. There was also a
huge exchange of plant life, which both sides were impacted by. Naturally this
included crops grown for food. This had a large impact on the availability of
certain products in both Afro Eurasia and the Americas. It also changed some of
the cuisine, having an affect on popular foods and just simply what was available
in certain areas. Not only was it plant life having a profound effect on the foods
people ate, but also animals. There were a large number of animals that were new
to both sides of the Exchange. Some of these animals could be raised on a ranch for
their meat like, pigs, cattle, chickens, sheep, and goats. Others to be ridden for
transportation, work or just as companions like horses and dogs.
Cyber-bullying Powered by Technology
Cyber bullying has become a huge issue recently not only in high school but in the
middle schools as well. For awhile there it seemed that just about every time you
turned on the news there was another story of bullying or a suicide related to
bullying incident being reported. Love is louder has become a popular phrase among
celebrities and other influential figures lately. They re trying to send out a message to
anyone listening saying that bullyingis wrong and it shouldn t be tolerated. With the
expansion of communication technologies, bullies are gaining more and more
ways to torture their victims. The fact of the matter is, technology isn t going
anywhere anytime soon, so we need to come up with a way to end cyber bullies
permanently. Cyber bullying is becoming more of a problem and all of us need to
work together in figuring out how we can stop cyber bullies once and for all. Until
we take precautionary measures, cyber bullies will continue to be a threat to today s
youth. Before putting an end to cyber bullying we must comprehend why and how a
cyber bully works. By understanding how a cyber bully works we ll be able to better
defend our youth population as technology expands.
Cyber bullying is mainly powered by technology and as it expands, bullying
becomes harder to notice and stop. Bullying over social media makes it easier for the
attacker to get away with their harmful behavior. Although the Internet has kicked

Mancelona Toxin Trichloroethylene
Mancelona, a small resort town in Antrim county Michigan, is currently
experiencing the effects of one of the largest toxic plumes in the great lakes state.
The toxin Trichloroethylene (TCE), a solvent used to degrease metal parts, was
discovered in the local water supply fifteen years ago. The manufacturer, Mt.
Clemens Metal Parts, disposed of the waste after use by dumping it into the
ground out back behind the plant where it leached into the ground to the water
table. This uninformed method of disposal had been going on for decades. The
plume is now six miles long by one mile wide in parts and is estimated to migrate 300
400 feet per year. Many residents are concerned and fear little is being done to rectify
the damage and clean it up. TCE... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michigan has an environmental liability program that allows new owners of a
contaminated area to conduct field assessments and if the site is contaminated, the
new owners are not liable. The state has spent nearly $18 million dollars already
and is in need of another $10 million for investigation and alternative water options.
However, in an article recently published by the Michigan House of Republicans,
funds to pay for the initial phase of a solution has been authorized. The solution is
to upgrade the Mancelona Area Water Sewer Authority s (MAWAS) wells, fields,
and water mains. The purpose is to ensure that Antrim county residents in affected
areas, have access to clean water. Many of them were being supplied with bottled
water. There are roughly 1,500 properties in the MAWAS servicing area that receive
their drinking water from the public system. The funds are to help pay for the
construction of new water storage tanks, the installation of a pressure booster station,
and a connecting water main which will help manage the impact of the TCE plume

Advertising Affects A Wide Variety
Advertising is a concept all Americans have been exposed to in their lives. It is a
normal component of life that affects Americans more than they are led to believe.
Advertising is constantly evolving. Advertising has been forced to change to meet
up with the changing of times. The price spent on advertising raises at a rapid rate
each and every year. Moreover, the every increasing money spent on advertising
shows that it is effective on reaching and influencing the American consumer.
Advertising affects a wide variety and a large amount of people. According to The
Statistics Portal, The United States is, by far, the largest advertising market in the
world. In 2015, more than 180 billion U.S. dollars were spent in advertising in the
United States. This figure is more than double the amount spent in advertising in
China, the second largest ad market in the world. From this, it is effortless to see that
American s are highly exposed to advertisements.
According to the International Advertising Association, Advertising can encourage
companies to compete and provide new products. This encourages more consumers
to buy because these products meet the needs and wants of more consumers. Thus,
the economy is positively affected. In addition, advertising can help create more
jobs. As the demand for products and services goes up because of advertising, more
people are needed to manufacture, supply, ship and test those products and services.
Thus, more jobs are created. It has
Examples Of Colonialism In A Hanging By George Orwell
George Orwell: Literature of colonialism
George Orwell is one of the most renowned writers of the twentieth century. Orwell
s essays portray different issues connected with colonial expansion. Colonialism
refers to the rule of one nation over a group of people in a geographically distant
land. George Orwell became a writer in 1927 and it is in his essays that he first
expresses his beliefs about colonialism. In his essays Shooting an Elephant ,
Marrakech , and A Hanging he demonstrates his prejudice against colonialism.
Background
George Orwell was born in 1903 in India, during the time of the British colonial rule.
He was brought to England at a young age by his mother and educated there. Orwell
moved to Burma in 1922, where he served as an assistant superintendent of police for
five years before he resigned because of his growing dislike for British Imperialism
or colonialism. He became a writer in 1927 and wrote one of his essays, A
Hanging , in 1931, which is a prime example of an essay where he demonstrates his
feelings toward colonialism. Following that were the essays, Shooting an Elephant
and Marrakech , also prime example of his feelings toward colonialism.
A Hanging and colonialism
A Hanging was written in 1931 by George Orwell with the purpose being to
persuade the reader of the unspeakable wrongness of capital punishment, it also gave
a critical view of British
Imperial rule in Burma. The essay starts off with the narrator getting ready to witness
and execution by hanging. Orwell sees the prisoner as an animal and his killing just
a job that must be done. Then he experiences a realization about life when there is an
incident with a dog. The narrator then expresses his sympathy for the man and
explicitly shows his stance on capital punishment. At the end of the essay he
describes how the superintendent checks that the prisoner is dead and everyone goes
back to the prison, resuming their daily activities as if nothing unusual has happened.
This essay has two different levels of colonized people: the prisoners and the
condemned. Orwell writes towards the middle of his essay about seeing the prison
being brought up to the hanging site and avoiding stepping in a puddle. Orwell
writes, When

Matthew s United Methodist Church. During Week 1, we had a section on the

significantly to the ethics of the church s community. The community of the church
has such strong ethics, showing a sense of teamwork, discipline, responsibility and

many different styles of writing such as poetry, narration, fiction, history, law, and

Abraham Maslow Impact
Abraham Maslow had a positive impact on life. Maslow wanted a career that would
change the world, and he achieved just that. He developed his influential hierarchy
of inborn needs in the 1940 s. During WWII, Maslow got into a different field: the
study of emotionally healthy, high achieving men and women, which would later be
called self actualizing. He was known for his groundbreaking studies on personality
and motivation, and his concepts like self actualization, peak experience, and synergy
have become part of our everyday language.
Abraham Harold Maslow was an American psychologist who is best known for
creating Maslow s hierarchy of needs, and discovering self actualization. Maslow
was a psychology professor at Alliant International University, Brandeis University,
Brooklyn College, New School for Social Research, and Columbia University. He

Maslow was the oldest out of seven children and was classified as mentally
unstable by a psychologist. His parents were jewish immigrants from Russia. His
parents were poor and not intellectually focused. Although this was the case, they
valued education. Maslow and other young people with the same background
were having trouble overcoming acts of racism and ethnic prejudice. The tension
outside of Maslow s home was also felt within it. He rarely got along with his
mother, and eventually developed hatred towards her. He is quoted as saying,
What I had reacted to was not only her physical appearance, but also her values and
worldview, her stinginess, her total selfishness, her lack of love for anyone else in
the world even her own husband and children her narcissism, her Negro prejudice,
her exploitation of everyone, her assumption that anyone was wrong who disagreed

Importance Of Family Values
The values that are most important to me are family, a strong work ethic, integrity,
and respect. I am Hispanic, so we come from a very family oriented culture, thus
making family the utmost significant value. We have a great sense of unity that goes
beyond the immediate family (parents and siblings) and includes the extended family
(grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) and close friends. Having a strong
work ethic is a value I have inherited from my parents. From an early age, my
parents have told me, You never get anywhere unless you work hard for it . That
kind of mentality has stayed with me ever since. They believe if you don t work
hard at something then you truly don t appreciate it. I have worked hard all my
life to get to where I am now and I continue to work to get to where I want to be.
Integrity and respect are values I keep near and dear to me. I believe that we should
always do things with integrity. I believe one must have respect for others and
themselves.
These values were formed and influenced mainly by my family, ethnicity, culture
and environment I was raised in. This set of values have influenced me and shaped
the person I am today. Growing up, I was always surrounded with my family
whether it was my immediate family or my extended one. My grandparents were
like second parents to me and my cousins were my best friends. My family has
worked extremely hard, and has faced many adversities to be where they are today
and to have everything they do

Kayak Fishing Camping Trip Tips (951 Words)
Whether you want to spend more time at your favorite fishing spot or finally have
time to make a trip to explore some new lakes or rivers, there s nothing quite like a
kayak fishing camping trip. Not only do they offer a great excuse to fish to your
heart s content, but you also get to spend more time in the great outdoors. However,
combining kayak fishing with camping means you need to spend a lot more time on
preparation, especially if you are far from home. Unless you want to discover that you

kayak fishing camping trip goes smoothly.
1. Do Your Research
A kayak fishing camping trip is exciting, but make sure that you do all your
research before diving in headfirst. This means checking whether camping is
allowed in the area you want to visit, what the best times of the year are for
camping there and what the weather will be like during your stay. As disappointing
as it might be, it is better to cancel your trip if stormy weather is predicted instead of
thinking of just braving it.

to spend less time rummaging around inside bigger bags to find what you need. It
is also a good idea to categorize everything first before packing, so you won t end up
searching for the toilet paper in the electronics bag or have to dig in the toiletries
bag looking for dry food bars. Color coding your bags works the best and make
sure to distribute the weight of the bags properly when loading them in your kayak.

Mockery Of The Trojan War In Homer s Iliad
Mockery of the Trojan War in The Iliad
The Trojan War; one of the most glorious wars ever fought. Despite the deep
connections between the themes of honour and death, Homer inserts comic reliefs
throughout the poem in order to mock the stupidity of the war and the grudges that
were created between two nations because of a woman. In The Iliad, Homer illustrates
the irrelevence of the Trojan Warthrough the chorus s narrations, characters foolish
decisions, and obsession with honour.
Homer mocks the causes of the Trojan War through the the use of comic relief
throughout the narration of the chorus. In the very first lines of The Iliad, Homer
narrates the status of the Trojan War. He describes that the Greeks were in

In the beginning of Iliad Book one, we are told that Agamemnon has captured and
abducted one of the daughters of Apollo s Priest, Chryses. He refuses to give his
daughter back despite the priest proposing a ransom. Homer narrates that the priest
had come to the Ggreeks s camp hauling a fortune for his daughter s ransome
(Homer Book 1, 28), however Agamemnon does not seem to care and then
disgraces him by telling him that he does not want to see him sulking around or
sneaking back later (Homer Book 1, 33). The leaders of the war are making
decisions that can easily put their troops in danger but the troops cannot do
anything and have to mindlessly follow their leader s command. It is blatantly
obvious that the Greeks would have defeated the Trojans and would have gone
home in safety. Why would a leader of supposedly the greatest army the world has
ever seen, make such a selfish and ignorant decision? The war, by now, has already
grown unpopular with many of the soldiers and so again it is obvious that this war is
not a war worth fighting

Midterm Ritual Analysis By Emile Durkheim, Arnold Van...
Midterm Ritual Analysis In order to fulfill an individual s constitutional right to a
trial overseen by a jury of his or her peers, the process of juror selection is repeated
every day in courtrooms around the country. The process is not only vital to the
American justice system as a whole; for the prospective juror it is also a defining
feature of their U.S. citizenship. Juror selection and the accompanying voir dire, when
examined for more than its procedural parts, reveals itself to be more complex than a
set of ordinary practices. The frameworks established by Emile Durkheim, Arnold
Van Gennep, and Victor Turner help to separate the ritual elements present in jury
duty from aspects that are more representative of technological routine .
British structural functionalist Arnold Van Gennep was studying in circumstances
very different from the modern moment. Still, Van Gennep s analysis offers a
useful framework for understanding the stages of ritual. If one is willing to see
jury duty as a rite of passage, a marker of adulthood within American society, then
one can begin to see preliminal, liminal, and postliminal rites that make up its
composition (Van Gennep 1960 p. 11). This division of rites can be seen in the
treatment of space within the courtroom. When a prospective juror begins jury
service, they partake in the pivoting that separates them from the profane world and
temporarily places them in the realm of the sacred (Van Gennep 1960 p. 12). They

Accounting, help self employed tax payers receive all of the deductions that they
are due. Filing your income taxes as a self employed worker can be difficult, and
many cost saving deductions can be missed. By finding a Tax Preparer or accountant
in your state who understands self employment, your owed taxes can decrease each
year.
What is the Self Employed Health Insurance Deduction?
More than tn million tax payers in the United States are self employed, and most of
them have access to specific deductions and benefits that were created for their
unique income tax filing status. The Self Employed Health Insurance Deduction is
one of those money saving tools that all self employed workers should be taking
advantage of. Those who are self employed, and file their taxes accordingly, may
claim the expenses of health insurance that they incurred for themselves and their
spouse or children.
Who Can Use this Tax Deduction?
If you are self employed, it is likely that you either report your income on a
Schedule F Form for farming and agriculture, or a Schedule C Form for non
agricultural income. Both of these types of tax payers may use the Self Employed
Health Insurance Deduction.

Villain Protagonist
A villain is a person who tries to stop, kill, or destroy the protagonist in a story. The
villain is a very important part to any story. The villain is rude, evil, and nasty.
They are often known as the antagonist. Without a villain there wouldn t even be a
story. A villain can be likable or very hated. A lot of times the villain can be
someone that the protagonist trusted. It can be family members or teammates or
good people turned evil. The best villain I know is Kellog. He is the main
protagonist in Fallout 4. After being locked in vault 111 because of several nuclear
bombs hitting the U.S.A. our main protagonist finds himself and family being frozen
in a cryogenic test pods. Then while everybody is still frozen the protagonist

People think that many good things will happen during this year, but scientists and

they will affect society as a whole, but only one will be researched in depth. The...

As a family, overpopulation means less space for building a house. Parents will be
forced to have only one to two children if allowed by the government. Rules
regarding birth will be very strict. Group and organizations will be challenged
because they will have to make decisions whether to hire or fire personnel. This
will have a negative impact in societal groups. Postmodern America in 2050 4
Overpopulation will have a great impact in culture because of immigration. Many
cultures will experience sharing multiple languages, religions, race, etc. Migration
can be voluntary or involuntary and throughout history we all have seeing both.
Voluntary when people decided to move to larger cities by their own choice.
Involuntary when the Spaniards brought the slaves from Africa. Also, another
impact in culture will be that diverse families will grow. Demographic studies will
vary depending on the mortality and fertility of the population. Our textbook defines
three important terms regarding fertility. They were fertility which is the incidence
of childbearing in a country s population; fecundity which is a maximum possible
childbearing and is reduced by cultural norms, finances, and personal choice; and
crude birth which is the number of live births in a given year for every 1,000 people
in a population (Macionis, p. 580). Also, the author explained the terms of mortality
and crude death rate. Which are the opposite of fertility.
Black Mothers By Kendrick Lamar
Black single mothers have overall negative stereotypes linked to them, their children,
and their financial situation. Single black mothers are getting labeled as Gold
diggers, lazy, con artist, non supportive, emotionally unstable, and uneducated. To
make their reputation even worse most of the songs in the Hip Hop community
make hypocritical songs that generalize all single black mothers based on their
particular experience. Hip Hop narratives such as Faith by Kendrick lamar and Baby
Mama by Fantaisa, challenges the race stereotypes about co parenting. Not all Hip
Hop songs reinforce the negative stereotypes about single black mothers. Songs like
Faith by Kendrick Lamar is a great song that represents the struggle single mothers go
through.
For example, the song Faith by Lamar give good examples of a single black mother
doing everything she can to not fall victim to the negative stereotypes. The second
verse starts out by saying Single black parent from Compton raising children of four
/That s four innocent bastards cause Papa, they didn t know. (lines 27 and 28) These
lyrics give background to the young black mother situation. It is clearly evident that
this young mother that Kendrick is familiar with is a single mother of four because
the children s father is an absentee. These lyrics set a distressing tone because having
four children that have a father that does not want them is heartbreaking and
troubling. The words Lamar uses to describe the children in the

McCarthyism and the Conservative Political Climate of Today
FOR ALMOST fifty years, the words quot;McCarthy quot; and quot;McCarthyism
quot; have stood for a shameful period in American political history. During this
period, thousands of people lost their jobs and hundreds were sent to prison. The U.S.
government executed Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, two Communist Party (CP)
members, as Russian spies. All of these people were victims of McCarthyism, the
witch hunt during the 1940s and 1950s against Communists and other leftists, trade
unionists and civil rights activists, intellectuals and artists. Named for the witch hunt

The novel is an open, unabashed effort to turn McCarthy into a misunderstood,
unappreciated hero.
It s not surprising that self identified conservatives like Buckley would want to
rehabilitate one of their heroes. But what is most disturbing about the efforts to
restore McCarthy s good name has been the pathetic response of many on the left.
Anti McCarthy historian Ellen Schrecker urged a cease fire on criticism of Kazan s
award on the grounds that we should quot;separate Kazan the informer and Kazan the
artist. quot;[4] Even worse, Miriam and Walter Schneir, who established a case for
the Rosenbergs innocence in Invitation to an Inquest,[5] now say they were wrong.
quot;Twenty years ago, I would have said that there weren t a significant number of
American Communists who spied, quot; liberal historian Maurice Isserman told the
New York Times Magazine. quot;It s no longer possible to hold that view. quot;[6]
In all of the charges and countercharges, it is easy to lose sight of what McCarthyism
meant to millions of ordinary Americans. Miriam Zahler, the daughter of Detroit
Communists, recalls:
My worst nightmare when I was seven or eight was that my mother would be taken

The Effects Of Stress On Physical Health
Psychological stress is pressure placed on a person to adapt, cope, or adjust to a
situation (Rathus, 2016, p.284). The result of prolonged stress can affect a person
s mood, pleasure experience, and have harmful effects on physical health (Rathus,
2016, p.284). Society in the twenty first century places high demands on people.
Technology makes it very difficult to separate work life, school life, and home life.
Today, society places a high value on a busy lifestyle for individuals. For example,
many places of business are open twenty four hours a day. In addition to societal
pressures, attending a university adds to the stressors a person may experience.
Going to school not only includes classroom time but it also includes homework,...

Nontraditional student numbers continue to rise on college campuses and few
institutions meet the mental health needs for this special group of students (Carney
Crompton Tan, 2002). It is the purpose of this study to examine both the stressors (i.e.
triggers of the stress response) and perceived stress levels between traditional and
nontraditional students. General Student Population College students are a unique
population of people who have a variety of different stressors than people who do not
attend college (Holinka, 2015). Post secondary education is a stressful time for both
traditional and nontraditional students (Yarbrough Schaffer, 1990). Regardless of
student status whether it may be traditional, nontraditional, freshman senior, all
students experience stress at one time or another. Trenz, Ecklund Flores, and Rapoza
(2015), illustrate those traditional and nontraditional students both face life stress,
anxiety, and depression but manage stress, anxiety provoking events, and negative
situations quite differently. Navigating through a new chapter in life increases the
amount of stress on an individual. Interestingly, research shows that traditional and
nontraditional student sample score similarly when tested on their emotional
satisfaction with their support system suggesting that differences in support are
unlikely to explain differences in stress levels between these two groups (Carney
Crompton Tan, 2002). Numerous factors contribute to
Rhetorical Devices Of `` We Wear The Mask `` And ``
Harlem ``
In literature, rhetorical devices are primarily used to convey a particular feeling or
action to the reader. Through the use of rhetorical devices such as imagery,
description, and metaphorical allusion, the author gives the reader the ability to
connect with the text on a more intimate level that otherwise would not have been
achieved without the use of them. Subsequently, Harlem Renaissancewriters such as
Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Langston Hughesemployed the rhetorical devices of
imagery, description and metaphorical allusion to convey the egregious realities of
the black experience in the United States during the early twentieth century. In
writings such as, We Wear the Mask by Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Harlem by
Langston Hughes, the use of rhetorical devices gives each writer the ability to
provide commentary on the social, economic, and political circumstances that African
Americans faced in inner city Harlem during the turn of the twentieth century.
In We Wear the Mask , Dunbar primarily employs the rhetorical device of
metaphorical allusion to give the reader a sense of how African Americans navigated
socially in a traditionally white supremacist, patriarchal society. He begins his poem,
with We wear the mask that grins and lies, it hides are cheeks and shades our eyes
(Dunbar, We Wear the Mask ). Here, he employs the use of the mask to elaborate on
the double consciousness that African Americans had to exhibit in order to function
during that tumultuous
Marvin Gaye What s Going On Analysis

would become a huge hit for both critics and casual listeners throughout the US.
Written towards the end of the Vietnam War, What s Going On would touch on
subjects including war protests, unification of the American people, and the poor
treatment of veterans. Gaye s brother served in Vietnam, and much of this album

Upon returning home he is expecting a warm welcome, but all he sees is problems
in his society. The first problem addressed is that of veterans being shunned after
coming home. Either because they didn t agree with what the soldiers fought for
or because they were frustrated from the defeat, people would treat veterans badly.
Many veterans would try to mask the fact they served, or otherwise would be
harassed by the anti war civilians. Gaye s brother experienced the same and could

whole society changed after the war, as expected from a drastic event like this, but

Eggs, similar to milk or seeds, support the early growth and development of an

A new study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, said that egg

amount of egg whites. In the research, 18 young men were given an 18 gram serving

Researchers took the blood samples and muscle biopsies of the 18 to track their

Nicholas Burd, a professor of kinesiology and community health at the University of

to maintain health. He observed a lot of stress on protein nutrition in modern society.
Burd said that as the world population grows, there is a need for cost effective and
sustainable strategies to improve the use of protein in the diet. He said that the study
showed consuming egg protein in its natural matrix has a greater benefit than getting

form of cancer. Mesothelioma diagnosis is made through biopsy and a pathological

The Effects Of Dependence On Oil
Dependence on oil is a threat to international economics. The Middle East holds
much of earth s supply twenty percent of the world s oil comes from the Persian
Gulf. The U.S. itself imports more than two million barrels per day of Persian Gulf
petroleum and crude oil (J. Miller). That s almost twelve percent of America s oil

so heavily on trade from this area places the international economy at risk. Nuclear

By wielding this power, Russia, along with other oil rich nations, can change the
playing field to their favor.
Political power is only one aspect. Oil also offers leverage in the form of military
might. In 2014, ISIS captured oil fields in Syria, and later fields in Iraq. Since then,
the terrorist organization has been selling both crude and refined oil on the black
market. Originally, it was estimated that ISIS was earning $1.5 million every day.
After the coalition airstrikes, the selling price of their oil has gone up (Solomon).
With these funds, ISIS can sustain their reign of terror with fuel, weapons, and
soldiers. This gets them that much closer to their goal of conquering other nations.
Economics and power are only part of the problem; oil spills are also a threat.
Offshore drilling leaks in the ocean harm the environment, with the consequences
lasting for years. These spills can affect a large area and a myriad of ecosystems.
They kill birds and marine life, including fish eggs, larva, and other young. This
damages the species population growth, as no infants means no new adults.
Additionally, the oil can wash up on shores and pollute beaches. The oil can even
get into the systems of the fish that humans eat (Greenpeace). On top of all that, even
the best cleanup efforts aren t sufficient. Jacqueline Savitz, Oceana s campaign

The North Sydney Bears went down to the Wyong Roos 18 16 in a game that saw

Humanism During The Renaissance
Humanism Through Works of Art During the Renaissance Wishing for a rebirth is
wishing for an opportunity to achieve perfection, through rebirth one can not only
correct previous mistakes, but also contemplate aspects of the world that went
unnoticed in previous times. Literally meaning rebirth the Renaissance is a time
period of discovery and reason, where the perspective of the masses went from a
concern for one s existence beyond death back down to earth to the study and the
idealism of the individual. The Renaissance consisted of a period spanning from the
14th to 17th century where a time of war and plague came to a close, allowing the
European population s perspective to move away from simply surviving and towards
living life to the fullest. According to the Saylor Foundation The Renaissance
transformed nearly all facets of European culture and society. This allowed for
resources to be spent on promoting and commissioning the arts as well as the
development of new scientific techniques, resulting in a consistent theme of
humanismthroughout the Renaissance period. Humanism is characterized as the
study of humans as unique entities among other creatures, humans possess a
conscious and reasoning that marks them for great success or great failure at their
own hand. It is this humanistic philosophy of human flaws that is the basis of

Religion And The Modern World Essay
Religions and civilization have always gone hand in hand, forming and evolving as
time goes on. With so many various religions represented throughout history and in
our diverse cultures, there are various subjects, ideas, and themes depicted and
repeated. With so many concepts available to us in so many forms, we are able to
easily compare and discuss their presence and how they integrate into concepts of the
modern world.
Two forms of religion are animism versus anthropocentrism. Animistic religions are
the oldest kind of religion (though only ten percent of the world currently practice)
and maintains the belief that everything around us has a soul animals, plants, the
elements. Animistic religions view everything as sacred, so the Earth and those who
inhabit deserve to be treated with respect. Anthropocentric religions, however, hold a
drastically different opinion. While animistic religions view all as sacred,
anthropocentric religions, such as Christianity, believe that only humans have a soul,
placing them on a pedestal and regarding them as something superior to all other
lifeforms. Due to the beliefs of anthropocentric religions, it can be argued that they
benefit the capitalist economy. The capitalist economy likes to turn anything and
everything possible into a profit, and by placing humans on a pedestal and viewing
everything else as a lesser being, anthropocentric religions allow the exploitation of

The father of quality evolution, the man who helped shape the world, William
Edwards Deming, was born on the month of October 14, 1900 in the city of Sioux,
Iowa. His family raised him in this city until they moved in Polk City, Iowa when
he was four years old. After two years of living in Polk City, the family again
moved to Cody, Wyoming. Then, There was a homestead program that gave out a
free land in 40 and 80 acres plots as part of a major irrigation project in Powell,
Wyoming. They had to move again, after two years, for this reason. At that time,
the first four years living at a tarpaper shack was a struggle for them to live life and
move on with their daily tasks because of the tough situation that they are facing.
Deming started working odd jobs as young boy in order for him to save up money for
the everyday expenses of the family.
In 1917, W. Deming was a student who attended the University of Wyoming(UW),
finishing engineering major. Few years after, he finally earned his Bachelor s
degree in 1921 by supporting himself and doing all kinds of work, such as janitorial
work, working in a dry cleaner, a soda jerk at a local drug store, and several other
jobs. After graduation, Deming stayed in UW to teach engineering while studying
mathematics at the same time. In 1922, he became an assistant professor in Physics
at the Colorado School of Mines. During summertime, he took classes at the
University of Colorado for his Master s degree in Mathematics and Physics that he

theory, which argues that legal and social restriction on females must be removed to
bring equality of both sexes. Writing entails many forces such as styles, theories, and
environmental inspiration. The forces are then categorized in afro futurism,
deconstruction, formalism, stylistic, Marxism, post structuralism, feminism and
psychoanalytic theories of literature. Since the paper aims at discussing how
Giovanni is more of a poet than a feminist, it will address Giovanni s ability to cut
across many literary theories as opposed to the thought that she is only a feminist.
Deconstruction Theory Criticism Deconstruction theory criticism is reflected in her

President Jackson Uncivilized Native Americans
President Jackson and the uncivilized Native Americans During the 19th Century,
The Trail of Tears was the greatest crime against the indigenous population, in
which the Indian removal Act led to their destruction. President Andrew Jackson
removed the Native Americans from their ancestral lands because he believed that
they were uncivilized. Jackson had no remorse for the Native Americans, as he
and the whites forced them out of their own land, as he abused his power of
authority. The Native Americans lived on millions of acres of land in Georgia,
Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and Florida, they inherited all of these lands
from their ancestors who cultivated for generations. According to Elias Boudinot
the natives considered themselves to be just as equal as the Whites, he states, What
is an Indian? Is he not formed of the same materials with yourself? (Boudinot, 1826)
The natives saw themselves to be no different from the Whites, in fact they cared
for one another as a whole, they lived in kinships, where there was never an Indian
left alone without a family. They followed a society based off of the concept of
interdependence, they had in their mind that everything is dependent of something.
The Indians were very advanced, and were able to prosper in their society, although
the Whites believed otherwise, and believed that the natives were uncivilized.
President Andrew Jackson only wanted the best for the Native Americans and wanted
them to relocate to a place
The Movie Night And Boys Don t Cry
The novel Night by Elie Wiesel is a book that can be compared to many media or
textual forms, such as novel, short stories, comics, etc., but the most suitable
comparative media form was a film . The film is a visual presentation of fictional or
nonfictional story that gets the audiences a sense of the emotional trauma. The film,
which complemented Night by Elie Wieselby the similarity of themes, but a totally
different plot was the film titled, Boys Don t Cry Directed by: Kimberly Peirce.
Both the book and Film have the great essence of to begin with, Dehumanization
human tend to physically, emotionally or sexually torture another human being,
followed by, the instinctual struggle to survive how people have overcome many
hurdles of life to get a point or SURVIVAL , and finally, Denial of self when one try
to deny deny or restrain their personality or they lost their own identity. Therefore, it
can be very well agreed to the fact that both the book Night, and the FILM, Boys Don
t Cry share a similar trauma which detriment the human behavior.
To begin with, Night and Boys Don t Cry share theme of dehumanization in many
ways. At night, Violence is key term or the most of the book contains this. For
example, publicly threatening people to maintain control. For instance, members of
the resistance in the concentration camps are public and gruesomely hanged as a
warning to the upcoming consequences. The application of different type violence

Analysis Of The Poem Pied And Blackberry Picking
Nature is explored in a number of different ways in Pied Beauty , Pike and
Blackberry Picking . The poems all focus on different sides to nature. All three
poems focus on the beauty of nature but Pike and Blackberry Picking on a more
negative side to nature. Nature is praised in each of the three poems but all have very
different meanings and perspectives on nature.
Hopkins Poem Pied Beauty explores nature s beauty. It s described as the perfect
place. The poem begins with Glory be to god and ends with Praise god . The poem
is almost a prayer that is thanking god for nature as it is so beautiful. Hopkins also
talks about the rose moles on the trout as they swim. This shows that God took the
time to create such small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This clearly shows nature s brutality and unforgivingness. Suddenly there were two.
Finally one describes three pike that were caught and how one of which ate the other
two. The pike doesn t care who it eats. It is made to kill;even if it s their relative, it
will do whatever it has to, to survive.
Seamus Heaney s Blackberry Picking also presents the beauty of nature however
in contrast to Hughes and Hopkins, Heaney s poem explores man s relationship
with nature as a resource and how man exploits it and becomes greedy. The poem
itself is about when Heaney was much younger and would go blackberry picking. It
begins very positively but the second stanza ends the poem negatively containing
sorrow and regret. The blackberries are described as a glossy purple clot suggesting
their attractive beauty. The clot does also represent bloodshed. The word glossy
shows the shiny surface of the skin and clot is describing the big juicy size of it
creating a lust for picking it. Man s greed is a dominant theme throughout the poem
as the speaker has a lust for picking as the blackberry s flesh was sweet . The speaker
wanted more of the fruit because they were so nice but soon the sweet flesh turned
sour in the second stanza, which creates disillusionment and unhappiness.
Both Pied Beauty and Blackberry Picking use metaphors and similes to convey nature
s beauty by comparing two things.
Essay On First Time Dating
At first glance, we can see that S1 and S2 actively interact with one another in
order to act out the situation of a couple first time dating . From line 40 to 46, S1
and S2 exchanges turns and asks casual questions, however, in line 46 when S2
seems slightly confused with the stretching sound I am:::::: , the teacher promptly
jumps in and completes S2 s turn. It is the content of the teacher s suggestion,
teacher s tone of voice and S2 s uptake teacher suggestion that create laughter in this
case (line 49). It is noted that S1 and S2 is not in a relationship, yet they are
grouped and assigned a situation which possibly involves awkward moments of
pretending to be one another s lover. Although everyone is aware that S1 and S2 are

The extract is taken during the classroom discussion where teacher closely listens
and observes in order to offer help if required. The topic at hand centrals around
film and movie and the students in extract 5 are discussing a particular Japanese
horror movie. In the beginning of the extract, from line 7 to 13, S1, S2 and S3 are
exchanging turns to recollect details of the Japanese movie The Ring . During
these turns, S1 is trying to gain consensus of the main character s name in the film
and seek her friends opinions. However, in line 11 and 13, S2 and S3 switch to
Vietnamese and express their uncertainty of S1 s suggestion of the main ghost s
name as Samo . Although the students are excitingly discussing about the lesson
topic, the use of Vietnamese is seen as violating the teacher s expectation. From line
14 to 18, we can observe how the teacher deals with the matter of students using
Vietnamese by making use of humour. Line 14 marks the teacher participants in the
students discussion when she proposes her opinions on the names of the character
Samo or Saritaro . It is noted that if Samo is a repetition of the S1 s suggestion,
Saritaro is a made up name. Owing to the teacher s contribution of an artificial
sounded alike Japanese name; this creates a humorous effect, which explains the
students laughter in the following line (15). In line 16, following the teacher s turn, S4
Neanderthal and Early Modern Humans Essay
Neanderthal and Early Modern Humans
The history of life on earth goes back to millions of years. Many species and
creatures evolved and changed through time, leading up to what we know today as,
modern man. One of the creatures most similar to modern man is the Neanderthals;
they are sometimes referred to as early modern humans.
An article entitled Early man steered clear of Neanderthal romance by Michael
Hopkin, explains that there was a discovery that early human ancestors of modern
man did not breed with their cousins, the Neanderthals, according to DNA that has
been studied. Neanderthals vanished from Europe between 30,000 and 40,000 years
ago, roughly the time that truly modern man made his first appearance in ... Show

There were 24 Neanderthal remains and 40 early modern human remains that were
studied. The bimolecular preservation of DNA of five early humans and four
Neanderthals was helpful enough for the preservation.
All four Neanderthals yielded the mtDNA sequences similar to those previously
determined from Neanderthal individuals, whereas none of the five early modern
humans contained such mtDNA sequences. In combination with current mtDNA
data, this excludes any large genetic contribution by Neanderthals to early modern
humans, but does not rule out the possibility of a smaller contribution (Serre, 16
March 2004).
Therefore, early modern humans and Neanderthals could have been around and
breeding at the same time, it is just a small chance.
Between 30,000 and 40,000 years ago, Neanderthals were gone from Europe (where
these fossils were found). Right around that time, the early modern humans were
beginning to migrate to parts of Europe. This brings up the point that it could be
possible that Neanderthals and early modern humans came eye to eye, but no one
knows what the reactions and attitudes were like if that were true. This is a question
of the history of life, did they exist simultaneously, and did they interact?
Despite intense research efforts, no consensus has been reached about the genetic
relationship between early modern humans and archaic human forms such as the
Neanderthals (Serre, 16 March 2004). It is a
Short Story
It was cold and still the dark of dawn.
Rafel looked up from the creek before him to the ten foot high privacy brick fence
encasing the Chamberlain Golf Resort across the breadth of the snaking creek. His
mission, for now, was to swim across the mile wide creek and through a channel
underneath the walls to the man made lake within the golf course. Where he would
take up a sniper position and await further instructions on his unknown target. He still
had about an hour of darkness to his advantage.
He stripped to his dry diving suit, putting on his goggles, he took a deep breath and
plunged in.
The initial jarring impact of the dive was always the worst. The sharp blast of the

The girl from DDS you fired.
Addi muttered a curse as their vehicle pulled up in the resort, joining the other

The Terrestrial (Inner) Planets 1. Mercury (Kendra)
Mercury is the smallest out of the 8 planets in the solar system. It is also the closest
to the sun. It goes around the sun faster than any other planet. Mercury was named
after the messenger of their gods (Arnett, Mercury Facts ). Mercury got his name
because it moves around the sun quickly. Though Mercury is the closest planet to...

Although Pluto is said to not be a planet in our solar system anymore, this
presentation will still include Pluto as a planet, as according to our textbook. Pluto
is the last planet in our solar system. Pluto is also the smallest planet in our solar
system. Pluto is very cold, setting records as the coldest planet in the solar system.
Pluto is now classified as a dwarf planet, due to its small size. Pluto is also known
as the King of the Kuiper Belt (Dunford, Pluto: Overview: King of the Kuiper Belt ).
Pluto has five moons. There are no rings on Pluto. Here are some more facts about
Pluto:

The sun is by far the largest object in the solar system. The Greeks called it Helios
and the Romans called it Sol. It is just an ordinary star. The sun is responsible for the
Earth s climate and weather. One million Earth s can fit inside the sun. The sun
contains 99.86% of the mass in the solar system. Light from the sun takes 8 minutes

Essay On Other America
The American citizens who suffers from poverty did not have the choice to be or
not to be in their situation so they suffered greatly since they were not given equal
opportunity s as the rest of America. People might have thought that these people
on the streets are just lazy people who never gave a damn in their lives and did not
want to work for their necessities. But Michal Harrington knew the real reason why
this so called Other America was the way they were, But the real explanation of
why the poor are where they are is that they made the mistake of being born to the
wrong parents, in the wrong section of the country, in the wrong industry, or in the
wrong racial or ethnic group ... [so] most of them would never even had had a chance
to get out of the other America (The Other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

learned from history that all good things must come to an end so did Johnsons
Great Society, When Johnson attempted to fund both his grand domestic agenda
and increasingly costly war in Vietnam, the great society eventually suffered ( The
Great Society s Legacy). Johnson s attempts to help out his citizens eventually
backfired as other cost rose. This was well after the space program had done its
damage and ended, it shows that when you give people even an ounce of help and

Furtebrate Stress Response
Stress can be broadly defined as any stimulus that disrupts homeostasis, with the stress
response referring to physiological and behavioral reactions to such a stimulus (Selye,
1950).In vertebrates the stress response is an evolutionary conservative process
mediated by the HPA axis that allows organisms to respond rapidly to unpredictable
changes in their environment. It is initiated when higher braincenters perceive
endogenous or exogenous noxious stimuli that threaten homeostasis and culminates
in the release of glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex. Elevated levels of circulating
glucocorticoids exert a variety of catabolic, antireproductive, anti growth, and
immunosuppressive effects that mobilize and repartition under detailed organisms...

Researchers tend to focus more intensely on perturbations resulting from aversive
events. (Novak et al 2013). A stress response can be describe physiologically as a
result of discovery of metabolic, immunological and neuroendocrine mechanisms.
Several hormones including ACTH, glucorticoid, catecholamines, and prolactin are
involved in a stress response. Adrenal glands are essential to hormonal stress
responses because they are involved both hypothalamic pituitary adrenocortical axis
and the symphatho adreno medullary system. The most salient physiological
responses to stress include activation of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) as
well as the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis. Accu rate measurement of the
catecholamines (i.e., epinephrine and norepinephrine) released as a result of SNS
activation is dif ficult because these substances are only available for transient periods
of time (Reeder and Kramer, 2005). Thus, evaluation of the HPA axis, most
commonly by measurement of its end prod uct glucocorticoids, has traditionally been
the primary means to make inferences about the stress response in animals. (Otovic

The Greatest Sports Game Created Essay
The greatest sports game created
Thirty seconds left in the La Liga cup finals. Real Madrid is playing the Notorious
FC Barcelona. Everything is on the line. Cristiano Ronaldo has the ball on his
foot. He cuts left passing a right midfielder. Ronaldo advances forward towards the
opponent s goal. Again, he dashes toward the next man, double step over, rake,
Cruyff turn, scissor, and another cut to his left to be the center defensive
midfielder. With every second gone the pressure rises. Ronaldo has two more
defenders to beat before he has a chance to shoot the ball. Instead, he does the
unthinkable, from 34 yards out he strikes a driven ball with the outside of his right
foot putting it perfectly in the upper left hand corner of the goal to win the game. I
know what you re thinking there is no way that is true and you may be partly right.
This event did take place, however, in the new FIFA 17 video game.

record of fastest selling sports game to this day, and generated $180m in retail the
first week of release (Herndon). FIFA has so many different features and gameplay

  • 2. Soccer Descriptive Speech The crowd is stomping their feet chanting USA! USA! , trying to make as much noise as they can despite their gloved hands and frozen feet. The entire stadium is shaking as the fans show their support for our goalie who just laid out for a stunning save. As we settle back into our seats, wrapping blankets back around our shoulders, I hear from behind me, God is helping out between those poles tonight. Yeah, he must be a U.S. Women s fan too cuz Lord knows the men s team is terrible. This come from two middle aged women decked out in U.S. Soccer gear sitting a row behind me. The group of people around them chuckle after hearing this exchange. It s just a fact around here: the women play better. Just three months later I walk into Jordan Field, home of the Boston Breakers, a professional women s soccer team and as we walk towards the stands one of my friends jokes that even our high school has a better stadium than this. The sun is beating down on me, I squint up at the stands noticing how empty they are despite the small number of seats. Once the game starts it s clear that the fans here are just as enthusiastic as U.S. Women s National Team (USWNT) fans, there just happens to be a lot less of them. I began to wonder how is it that 26,500 people are willing to stand in the freezing cold to support the USWNT, but a professional women s soccer league that runs in the middle of the summer only averages about 6,610 fans per game ( U.S. WNT vs. England 1, 2017 NWSL
  • 3. Analysis Of Thanatopsis By William Cullen Bryant Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant is a poem that I sense has the major themes of overcoming the fear of death and being one with nature. Transcendentalist writers usually have a circle effect of their work revolving around: God, nature, and man. God can be seen in nature while man tries to become one with nature which can be seen through the cycle of life. As a transcendentalist, he and other writers accepted the concept of nature as a symbol. Nature in this poem is something that is divine and can be seen as a getaway from society. In the beginning of the poem Thanatopsis , the first few lines set the tone and mood for how the rest of them poem will follow. You get a sense into what the rest of the poem will be like. Bryant begins with: To him who in the love of Nature holds Communion with her visible forms, she speaks A various language; for his gayer hours She has a voice of gladness, and a smile And eloquence of beauty (1 5). Here, there is a man who has a relationship with nature in a religious sort of way. Communion is usually what happens on the first Sunday of every month at church involving the coming together of people to feast on bread and wine of God. The communion is meant, here, as with nature s visible forms i.e. tress, grass, rocks, etc. He wants to exchange his intimate thoughts with nature. She is speaking to him in different ways but in a happy voice and smiles. I get a feeling that when nature smiles and or is happy it means that everything is at peace and tranquility. You see beauty in the things that nature has to offer. You tune out anything distracting and you become one. Referring it to literature, he focused on emotions and imagination to where we as the readers can to be connected. What s really interesting I thought was a couple of lines down. Bryant really gives vivid imagery or imagination once again in the lines: When thoughts Of the last bitter hour come like a blight Over thy spirit, and sad images Of the stern agony, and shroud, and pall, And breathless darkness, and the narrow house, Make thee to shudder, and grow sick at heart (8 13). He s now having depressing thoughts running through his mind on what it would be like to die. Death as
  • 4. Essay about The Great Hurricane of 1938 The Great Hurricane of 1938, or known to many as the Long Island Express, was known as one of the most disastrous hurricanes to hit New England. It wasn t the high winds, heavy rain, and high waves/storm surge that gave this hurricane its title in history. The Great Hurricane had a fourth deadly weapon; the element of surprise. It was the beginning of September, a time where many packed up their summer clothes, boarded up their houses, and left to return back to the real world leaving their summer homes behind. When symptoms of a storm approached New England, many locals convinced themselves and others that it was just the normal line storm which occasionally comes in September. It wasn t until Sept 21 that people realized the so called... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If conditions remain favorable, the depression may develop further into a tropical storm and, later, into a full blown hurricane. (Genesis, 99). On page 34 of the book, Sudden Sea, the author describes a discovery in the Sahara Desert. Meteorologists noticed a slight shift in the wind; an area of unstable air was passing over northwest Africa. Within a day or two it moved over the Atlantic Ocean to around the Cape Verde Islands. This should have been the first sign to the Weather Bureau to watch this particular storm. Although storms born off of the Sahara Desert were more likely to become nothing, there was still a slight chance it would develop from the unstable air combining with moisture built up from the heat of the equator off of the islands. The first mistake the Jacksonville s weather bureau made was to call all extra relief workers and coast guards from New York and New England down to Florida to prepare for the storm. While looking out and protecting Florida, they took many needed hands from the northeast, which was hit harder. Their second mistake, a more important one, was to assume this storm was another typical Cape Verde hurricane because it began to veer northward. Those storms were known to curve away from the tropics at first opportunity and head north for colder water where it would soon die off before hitting the US. It followed this specific course by the Bermuda High currents, a mass of dense dry air that dominates the weather in the North
  • 5. A Report on the Management of Change Report on the Management of Change Part One: Case study 1. Introduction At the beginning of 2012, Martin Scott, the CEO and half owner of Alhambra Software Solutions, reflected on the situation of the company. He was proud that the organization had followed an ascendant path throughout the previous years, and had not been hit by the devastating effects of the internationalized economic crisis. Alhambra Software Solutions had registered tremendous increases in employees, revenues, as well as customers served and projects completed. From the outside, it all looked impressive and the company seemed flawless. Still, Scott was worried by the fact that two of his senior software developers had handed in their resignations that morning. Michael Tors and Janine Moss had been with the company since its early stages; they had grown within Alhambra Software Solutions ever since they had graduated from university, to this day, when they are reputable and valuable senior developers. The decisions of Tors and Moss intrigued the chief executive officer, who had always believed that the firm had created a positive working environment for its employees. Still, looking back, he now realizes that Tors and Moss were not the single senior software developers who left the firm. In fact, there were several seniors that had left the company in the past year, and if he recollects well the majority of the new people hired, were mainly junior developers. Reflecting on the situation,

  • 7. The Americas And Afro Eurasia In the late 1500 s the start of The Colombian Exchange and the settling of Europeans in the Americas sparked a chain reaction of events that would forever change the way we tell the history of that time. It also just may have altered the way we advanced as a species and interacted with one another from that point on. There were many changes that took place in everyday life in both the Americasand Afro Eurasia because of the events of this time period. Some of them more obvious than others, but all were important in their own respect. Advances in technology included farming techniques, written alphabet, weapon and firearm capabilities, and building techniques took place. Religion was also brought from Afro Eurasia into the Americas for the first time. There was also a huge exchange of plant life, which both sides were impacted by. Naturally this included crops grown for food. This had a large impact on the availability of certain products in both Afro Eurasia and the Americas. It also changed some of the cuisine, having an affect on popular foods and just simply what was available in certain areas. Not only was it plant life having a profound effect on the foods people ate, but also animals. There were a large number of animals that were new to both sides of the Exchange. Some of these animals could be raised on a ranch for their meat like, pigs, cattle, chickens, sheep, and goats. Others to be ridden for transportation, work or just as companions like horses and dogs.

For awhile there it seemed that just about every time you turned on the news there was another story of bullying or a suicide related to bullying incident being reported. Love is louder has become a popular phrase among celebrities and other influential figures lately. They re trying to send out a message to anyone listening saying that bullyingis wrong and it shouldn t be tolerated. With the expansion of communication technologies, bullies are gaining more and more ways to torture their victims. The fact of the matter is, technology isn t going anywhere anytime soon, so we need to come up with a way to end cyber bullies permanently. Cyber bullying is becoming more of a problem and all of us need to work together in figuring out how we can stop cyber bullies once and for all. Until we take precautionary measures, cyber bullies will continue to be a threat to today s youth. Before putting an end to cyber bullying we must comprehend why and how a cyber bully works. By understanding how a cyber bully works we ll be able to better defend our youth population as technology expands. The toxin Trichloroethylene (TCE), a solvent used to degrease metal parts, was discovered in the local water supply fifteen years ago. The manufacturer, Mt. Clemens Metal Parts, disposed of the waste after use by dumping it into the ground out back behind the plant where it leached into the ground to the water table. This uninformed method of disposal had been going on for decades. The plume is now six miles long by one mile wide in parts and is estimated to migrate 300 400 feet per year. Michigan has an environmental liability program that allows new owners of a contaminated area to conduct field assessments and if the site is contaminated, the new owners are not liable. The state has spent nearly $18 million dollars already and is in need of another $10 million for investigation and alternative water options. However, in an article recently published by the Michigan House of Republicans, funds to pay for the initial phase of a solution has been authorized. The solution is to upgrade the Mancelona Area Water Sewer Authority s (MAWAS) wells, fields, and water mains. The purpose is to ensure that Antrim county residents in affected areas, have access to clean water. Many of them were being supplied with bottled water. There are roughly 1,500 properties in the MAWAS servicing area that receive their drinking water from the public system. The funds are to help pay for the construction of new water storage tanks, the installation of a pressure booster station, and a connecting water main which will help manage the impact of the TCE plume on the well

It is a normal component of life that affects Americans more than they are led to believe. Advertising is constantly evolving. Moreover, the every increasing money spent on advertising shows that it is effective on reaching and influencing the American consumer. Advertising affects a wide variety and a large amount of people. According to The Statistics Portal, The United States is, by far, the largest advertising market in the world. In 2015, more than 180 billion U.S. dollars were spent in advertising in the United States. This figure is more than double the amount spent in advertising in China, the second largest ad market in the world. From this, it is effortless to see that American s are highly exposed to advertisements. As the demand for products and services goes up because of advertising, more people are needed to manufacture, supply, ship and test those products and services. Thus, more jobs are created. It has
  • 11. Examples Of Colonialism In A Hanging By George Orwell George Orwell: Literature of colonialism George Orwell is one of the most renowned writers of the twentieth century. Orwell s essays portray different issues connected with colonial expansion. Colonialism refers to the rule of one nation over a group of people in a geographically distant land. George Orwell became a writer in 1927 and it is in his essays that he first expresses his beliefs about colonialism. In his essays Shooting an Elephant , Marrakech , and A Hanging he demonstrates his prejudice against colonialism. Background George Orwell was born in 1903 in India, during the time of the British colonial rule. He was brought to England at a young age by his mother and educated there. Orwell moved to Burma in 1922, where he served as an assistant superintendent of police for five years before he resigned because of his growing dislike for British Imperialism or colonialism. He became a writer in 1927 and wrote one of his essays, A Hanging , in 1931, which is a prime example of an essay where he demonstrates his feelings toward colonialism. Following that were the essays, Shooting an Elephant and Marrakech , also prime example of his feelings toward colonialism. A Hanging and colonialism A Hanging was written in 1931 by George Orwell with the purpose being to persuade the reader of the unspeakable wrongness of capital punishment, it also gave a critical view of British Imperial rule in Burma. The essay starts off with the narrator getting ready to witness and execution by hanging. Orwell sees the prisoner as an animal and his killing just a job that must be done. Then he experiences a realization about life when there is an incident with a dog. The narrator then expresses his sympathy for the man and explicitly shows his stance on capital punishment. At the end of the essay he describes how the superintendent checks that the prisoner is dead and everyone goes back to the prison, resuming their daily activities as if nothing unusual has happened. This essay has two different levels of colonized people: the prisoners and the condemned. Orwell writes towards the middle of his essay about seeing the prison being brought up to the hanging site and avoiding stepping in a puddle. Orwell writes, When

I am Hispanic, so we come from a very family oriented culture, thus making family the utmost significant value. We have a great sense of unity that goes beyond the immediate family (parents and siblings) and includes the extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) and close friends. Having a strong work ethic is a value I have inherited from my parents. From an early age, my parents have told me, You never get anywhere unless you work hard for it . That kind of mentality has stayed with me ever since. They believe if you don t work hard at something then you truly don t appreciate it. I have worked hard all my life to get to where I am now and I continue to work to get to where I want to be. Integrity and respect are values I keep near and dear to me. I believe that we should always do things with integrity. I believe one must have respect for others and themselves. These values were formed and influenced mainly by my family, ethnicity, culture and environment I was raised in. This set of values have influenced me and shaped the person I am today. Growing up, I was always surrounded with my family whether it was my immediate family or my extended one. My grandparents were like second parents to me and my cousins were my best friends. My family has worked extremely hard, and has faced many adversities to be where they are today and to have everything they do

In the beginning of Iliad Book one, we are told that Agamemnon has captured and abducted one of the daughters of Apollo s Priest, Chryses. He refuses to give his daughter back despite the priest proposing a ransom. Homer narrates that the priest had come to the Ggreeks s camp hauling a fortune for his daughter s ransome (Homer Book 1, 28), however Agamemnon does not seem to care and then disgraces him by telling him that he does not want to see him sulking around or sneaking back later (Homer Book 1, 33). The leaders of the war are making decisions that can easily put their troops in danger but the troops cannot do anything and have to mindlessly follow their leader s command. It is blatantly obvious that the Greeks would have defeated the Trojans and would have gone home in safety. Why would a leader of supposedly the greatest army the world has ever seen, make such a selfish and ignorant decision? The war, by now, has already grown unpopular with many of the soldiers and so again it is obvious that this war is not a war worth fighting

Midterm Ritual Analysis In order to fulfill an individual s constitutional right to a trial overseen by a jury of his or her peers, the process of juror selection is repeated every day in courtrooms around the country. The process is not only vital to the American justice system as a whole; for the prospective juror it is also a defining feature of their U.S. citizenship. Juror selection and the accompanying voir dire, when examined for more than its procedural parts, reveals itself to be more complex than a set of ordinary practices. The frameworks established by Emile Durkheim, Arnold Van Gennep, and Victor Turner help to separate the ritual elements present in jury duty from aspects that are more representative of technological routine . British structural functionalist Arnold Van Gennep was studying in circumstances very different from the modern moment. Still, Van Gennep s analysis offers a useful framework for understanding the stages of ritual. If one is willing to see jury duty as a rite of passage, a marker of adulthood within American society, then one can begin to see preliminal, liminal, and postliminal rites that make up its composition (Van Gennep 1960 p. 11). This division of rites can be seen in the treatment of space within the courtroom. When a prospective juror begins jury service, they partake in the pivoting that separates them from the profane world and temporarily places them in the realm of the sacred (Van Gennep 1960 p. 12). Many cultures will experience sharing multiple languages, religions, race, etc. Migration can be voluntary or involuntary and throughout history we all have seeing both. Voluntary when people decided to move to larger cities by their own choice. Involuntary when the Spaniards brought the slaves from Africa. Also, another impact in culture will be that diverse families will grow. Demographic studies will vary depending on the mortality and fertility of the population. Our textbook defines three important terms regarding fertility. They were fertility which is the incidence of childbearing in a country s population; fecundity which is a maximum possible childbearing and is reduced by cultural norms, finances, and personal choice; and crude birth which is the number of live births in a given year for every 1,000 people in a population (Macionis, p. 580). By wielding this power, Russia, along with other oil rich nations, can change the playing field to their favor. Political power is only one aspect. Oil also offers leverage in the form of military might. In 2014, ISIS captured oil fields in Syria, and later fields in Iraq. Since then, the terrorist organization has been selling both crude and refined oil on the black market. Originally, it was estimated that ISIS was earning $1.5 million every day. After the coalition airstrikes, the selling price of their oil has gone up (Solomon). With these funds, ISIS can sustain their reign of terror with fuel, weapons, and soldiers. This gets them that much closer to their goal of conquering other nations. Economics and power are only part of the problem; oil spills are also a threat. Offshore drilling leaks in the ocean harm the environment, with the consequences lasting for years. These spills can affect a large area and a myriad of ecosystems. They kill birds and marine life, including fish eggs, larva, and other young. This damages the species population growth, as no infants means no new adults. Additionally, the oil can wash up on shores and pollute beaches. The oil can even get into the systems of the fish that humans eat (Greenpeace). On top of all that, even the best cleanup efforts aren t sufficient. Jacqueline Savitz, Oceana s campaign director, writes, Once a blowout or other spill occurs, there are few if

With so many various religions represented throughout history and in our diverse cultures, there are various subjects, ideas, and themes depicted and repeated. With so many concepts available to us in so many forms, we are able to easily compare and discuss their presence and how they integrate into concepts of the modern world. Two forms of religion are animism versus anthropocentrism. Animistic religions are the oldest kind of religion (though only ten percent of the world currently practice) and maintains the belief that everything around us has a soul animals, plants, the elements. Animistic religions view everything as sacred, so the Earth and those who inhabit deserve to be treated with respect. Anthropocentric religions, however, hold a drastically different opinion. While animistic religions view all as sacred, anthropocentric religions, such as Christianity, believe that only humans have a soul, placing them on a pedestal and regarding them as something superior to all other lifeforms. Due to the beliefs of anthropocentric religions, it can be argued that they benefit the capitalist economy. The capitalist economy likes to turn anything and everything possible into a profit, and by placing humans on a pedestal and viewing everything else as a lesser being, anthropocentric religions allow the exploitation of natural resources without the accompanying guilt of

Jackson had no remorse for the Native Americans, as he and the whites forced them out of their own land, as he abused his power of authority. Seamus Heaney s Blackberry Picking also presents the beauty of nature however in contrast to Hughes and Hopkins, Heaney s poem explores man s relationship with nature as a resource and how man exploits it and becomes greedy. The poem itself is about when Heaney was much younger and would go blackberry picking. It begins very positively but the second stanza ends the poem negatively containing sorrow and regret. The blackberries are described as a glossy purple clot suggesting their attractive beauty. The clot does also represent bloodshed. The word glossy shows the shiny surface of the skin and clot is describing the big juicy size of it creating a lust for picking it. Man s greed is a dominant theme throughout the poem as the speaker has a lust for picking as the blackberry s flesh was sweet . The speaker wanted more of the fruit because they were so nice but soon the sweet flesh turned sour in the second stanza, which creates disillusionment and unhappiness. Both Pied Beauty and Blackberry Picking use metaphors and similes to convey nature s beauty by comparing two things.

There were 24 Neanderthal remains and 40 early modern human remains that were studied. The bimolecular preservation of DNA of five early humans and four Neanderthals was helpful enough for the preservation. All four Neanderthals yielded the mtDNA sequences similar to those previously determined from Neanderthal individuals, whereas none of the five early modern humans contained such mtDNA sequences. In combination with current mtDNA data, this excludes any large genetic contribution by Neanderthals to early modern humans, but does not rule out the possibility of a smaller contribution (Serre, 16 March 2004). Therefore, early modern humans and Neanderthals could have been around and breeding at the same time, it is just a small chance. Between 30,000 and 40,000 years ago, Neanderthals were gone from Europe (where these fossils were found). Right around that time, the early modern humans were beginning to migrate to parts of Europe. This brings up the point that it could be possible that Neanderthals and early modern humans came eye to eye, but no one knows what the reactions and attitudes were like if that were true. This is a question of the history of life, did they exist simultaneously, and did they interact? It is initiated when higher braincenters perceive endogenous or exogenous noxious stimuli that threaten homeostasis and culminates in the release of glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex. A stress response can be describe physiologically as a result of discovery of metabolic, immunological and neuroendocrine mechanisms. Several hormones including ACTH, glucorticoid, catecholamines, and prolactin are involved in a stress response. Adrenal glands are essential to hormonal stress responses because they are involved both hypothalamic pituitary adrenocortical axis and the symphatho adreno medullary system. The most salient physiological responses to stress include activation of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) as well as the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis. Accu rate measurement of the catecholamines (i.e., epinephrine and norepinephrine) released as a result of SNS activation is dif ficult because these substances are only available for transient periods of time (Reeder and Kramer, 2005). Thus, evaluation of the HPA axis, most commonly by measurement of its end prod uct glucocorticoids, has traditionally been the primary means to make inferences about the stress response in animals.
