Short Stories In Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Short Stories in Essays" presents its own set of challenges. The
inherent complexity lies in the need to seamlessly integrate two distinct literary forms – the
short story and the essay. Each form demands a unique set of skills and approaches, making the
task of combining them into a cohesive piece a daunting one.
Firstly, crafting a compelling short story requires the ability to build characters, develop plotlines,
and evoke emotions within a limited word count. Short stories thrive on brevity and conciseness,
demanding a writer's proficiency in creating impactful narratives within a confined space.
Balancing the art of storytelling with the constraints of brevity poses a considerable challenge.
On the other hand, the essay component demands analytical thinking, a structured approach, and
a coherent presentation of ideas. Essays often require a clear thesis statement, well-organized
paragraphs, and effective transitions between thoughts. Merging these structural elements with
the creative freedom necessary for short stories adds an additional layer of difficulty.
Moreover, navigating the intersection between fiction and analysis can be challenging. Ensuring
that the short story not only complements but enhances the overarching message of the essay is
crucial. Striking the right balance between creativity and critical thinking requires a delicate
touch, making this task intellectually demanding.
In conclusion, composing an essay on the amalgamation of short stories and essays poses a
considerable challenge due to the inherent differences in these two literary forms. Achieving a
seamless integration of narrative creativity and analytical depth requires a writer's adeptness in
both domains. It's a task that demands finesse and skill to produce a coherent and engaging
piece of writing.

One Thousand and One Nights Essay
Underlying Power One thousand and one nights, one thousand and one moral stories.
The story of The Thousand and One Nights is a unique tale that teaches simple
morals throughout the many stories within the main story. This tale is about a clever
women that saves herself, as well as the women in her kingdom, from being put to
death by the king. She does this by marring the king and telling him bedtime stories
every night that lead into the next day. She would purposely not finish the story, to
leave him interested in the ending which eventually saves her life, and the womenin
her kingdom, day after day. Not only does the main story have a lesson to be
learned, but the mini stories also have simple morals to be learned. The Tale of...

This powerful vow would eventually wipe out the kingdom that he was ruling
over. The wife never would have imagined she had so much influence on one
person. The king s wife s actions was the cause of this vow that was made. The
story of the demon and his wife also show the power of women. The power
illustrated here is the power that she has over two kings. She knew that they would
be afraid of the demon, and used their fear to her advantage. As said in the text:
Then she lay on her back, raised her legs, and said, Make love to me and satisfy
need, or else I shall wake the demon, and he will kill you. They replied, For God s
sake, mistress, don t do this to us, for at this moment we feel nothing but dismay
and fear of this demon. Please, excuse us. She replied, You must, and insisted,
swearing, By God who created the heavens, if you don t do it, I shall wake my
husband the demon and ask him to kill you and throw you into the sea. As she
persisted, they could no longer resist and they made love to her, first the older
brother, then the younger. (1574)
Unlike the other two women, Shahrazad, the vizier s daughter, used her womanly
powers to save instead of destroy or deceive. Even though her life was at stake, she
put herself in the position to be the heroine for the kingdom.

The Hurricane, Directed by Norman Jewison Essay
I have recently viewed the film The Hurricane , directed by Norman Jewison and
starring Denzel Washington as Rubin Hurricane Carter, the boxer jailed for crimes
he did not commit. This emotional drama is a fantastic watch, with Rubin and his
friends battling for his freedom after twenty years of unfair punishment. This film
has been a hit all over the world and not only is it a great watch worth every penny
but it sends out messages about believing in yourself and never giving up in what
you believe. This action packed review will attempt to talk you through this roller
coaster of a story. Hold on tight!

Washington was the perfect choice for the role of Rubin Carter, putting forward a
vision of a strong willed and unfairly treated man whose life has been littered with
injustices. His work as Rubin Hurricane Carter is on a par with his work as
Malcolm X . Washington relishes in his role as the victimised boxer and puts his
all into every scene, easily deserving his award for best actor. The manner in which
Washington plays Rubin Carter makes the audience instantly get behind him in his
fight for freedom simply the way in which he talks about his life in the jail earns
sympathy from the viewers which helps make this film such a hit. A clever
addition into the film by Jewison is the sub plot including a young boy named
Lesra, played by Vicellous Reon Shannon, who is offered schooling by three
Canadians as they believe he has the potential to become very clever if he is given
the right guidance. After a few years of teaching he reads a book written by Rubin
Carter called The 16th Round his autobiography which completely captivates Lesra,
inspiring him to write to the boxer and over time they become good friends with
Lesra paying regular visits. The people Lesra is staying with are appalled when they
hear about Rubins case and decide to help him in his battle
Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame Essay
Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame
To some, including myself, baseball is the greatest sport that has ever been played.
It is a game played by two opposing teams made of multiple players, but only nine
players per team play at the same time. To be part of one of the thirty teams that get
to play professional baseball, a player has to play the game extremely well
(www.baseballhalloffame.com). When a player plays the game better than most
have played he gets rewarded, usually with lots of money in a big contract. Then
there are those rare players, the 244 elite players of the game that have already been
inducted into the Hall of Fame. Being inducted in the Hall of Fame is the utmost of
baseball fame. The players listed are remembered forever. ... Show more content on

He did not report cash money he accepted for signing baseballs and photographs at
baseball card shows (Reston 1997). It is still to this day not proven that Rose did bet
on the baseball team that he was managing. Rose himself still holds true to his
statement that he never bet on the game of baseball. Evidence is minimal and it
has been over ten years, yet he is still ineligible to be voted into the Hall of Fame.
If it was left up to his statistics, he should have been inducted years ago. There are a
handful of the 244 elites that are in the Hall of Fame that did far worse things than
gamble on the game of baseball or evade paying their taxes. For instance, the
beloved Ty Cobb was a horrible racist and once admitted killing a man. One day
while walking in Detroit, he stepped in freshly poured asphalt. Then a construction
worker, named Fred Collins, who just happened to be black, yelled at him. Cobb
responded by slapping Collins to the ground. Cobb was found guilty by the courts,
and received a suspended sentence. Collins filed a civil suit, but settled out of court
for $75. Ty Cobb had to deal with the law in one form or another many different
times for striking black men (www.totalbaseball.com). The powers that run the
baseball organization seem to turn their eyes, quite conveniently, away from any
number of wife beaters, and drug addict s everyday. They let known, proven criminals
Why The MTC Rape Typology
The MTC rape typology is very useful to help understand the different types of
rape. There are 9 types of rapist. Types 1 and 2 rapists are called The Opportunistic
Rapist. The opportunistic rapist engages in sexual assault simply because the
opportunity to rape presents itself. Also, opportunistic rapist may occur within
some antisocial act like robbery. Type 3 rapist is called the pervasively angry
rapist. The pervasively angry rapist tis a demonstrates a predominance of global and
undifferentiated anger that pervades all areas of the offender s life. That includes
when a men attacks a women, his behavior show a example of total absence of
sexual arousal. Types 4 and 5 the sexually motivated, sadistic rapists. Sexually

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Steel
CHAPTER 5 MATERIALS USED
5.1 STEEL:
ADVANTAGES OF STEEL AS A CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL
Strength of steel is approximately ten times that of concrete. Due to its large strength
to weight ratio, steel structures tend to be more economical than concrete structures
for tall buildings and large span buildings and bridges.
Steel structures can be constructed very fast.
Steel structures are ductile and robust. Steel structures can be easily repaired and
retrofitted to carry higher loads.
Steel is also a very eco friendly material.
Since steel is produced in the factory under better quality control, steel structures have
higher reliability and safety.

Shrinkage of concrete
Shrinkage is the time dependent deformation, generally compressive in nature. The
constituents of concrete, size of the member and environmental conditions are the
factors on which the total shrinkage of concrete depends. However, the total
shrinkage of concrete is most influenced by the total amount of water present in the
concrete at the time of mixing for a given humidity and temperature. The cement
content, however, influences the total shrinkage of concrete to a lesser extent. The
approximate value of the total shrinkage strain for design is taken as 0.0003 in the
absence of test data (cl. 6.2.4.1).
Thermal expansion of concrete: The knowledge of thermal expansion of concrete is
very important as it is prepared and remains in service at a wide range of
temperature in different countries having very hot or cold climates. Moreover,
concrete will be having its effect of high temperature during fire. The coefficient of
thermal expansion depends on the nature of cement, aggregate, cement content,
relative humidity and size of the section. IS 456 stipulates (cl. 6.2.6) the values of
coefficient of thermal expansion for concrete / oC for different types of

loaded with explosives while it was being refueled at the harbor in Aden, Yemen.
This terrorist attack killed 17 of the ship s crew members and extensively damaged
the ship, and injured 39 others. The facts of this terrorist attack to date indicate that
it may have been executed by Islamic radicals with credible links to the terrorist
group headed by Usama bin Ladin (O Rourke Perl. 2001). Yemeni law enforcement

The Market Entry of Starbucks into China
The final project is going to be about the market entry of Starbucks into China. This
project will focus on gauging the success of the company s market entry strategy
thus far. Starbucks has announced in a press release that it believes China will be its
#2 market by 2014, and the company has been one of the most successful American
companies in that market (Starbucks, 2012). The company entered the Chinese market
in 1999 with a store in Beijing. This followed the acquisition of greater knowledge
about Chinese business culture through outlets in Taiwan. The company initially used
a licensing agreement to enter the Chinese market (Starbucks, 2010).
Since that point in time, the company extended its presence in the Chinese market in
2000 with a different licensee partner in Shanghai. In 2002, a third partner was added
to help Starbucks expand into Shenzhen, two years after entering the Hong Kong
market. Using these three major markets as a base, the company expanded from
Shenzhen to Guangzhou and from Shanghai to Ningbo, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi and
Changzhou. By 2005, the company was ready to open its first company owned store,
in Qingdao, an area of the country not overlapping with the existing licensee
agreements. Over time, the company has increased its equity positions in some of the
joint ventures, and it has also opened more company owned stores, and even bought
back some stores.

Leadership Styles Of Team Leadership
I have been analyzing your problems and concerns at DPU. My understanding is
that you are having problems with your team embracing the FISH! philosophy, and
that there is a lack of employee engagement from your directors in charge of the
various departments at DPU. I have done some research on leadership in regards to
different approaches to team leadership. I wanted to share with you what I
discovered. I researched three different styles of team leadership to be able to
provide you with a sufficient amount of background to be confident in my
recommendation for you. Leadership It is appropriate that I mention a few things
about leadership prior to delving into different leadership styles. In my research, I
learned that the success of a leadership style can depend on the type of industry you
are working in. Different styles will tend to be more effective in different working
environments (Cunningham, Salomone, Wielgus, 2015). It is also known that
different leadership styles induce various levels of how teams work together, team
and individual job satisfaction, and self esteem (Ruggieri, Abbate, 2013). The
leadership style of the leader is the main vehicle that a manager can use in order to
increase the rate of success of their team (Cunningham, et al., 2015). By choosing an
effective leadership style, you will have the opportunity to reduce employee turnover
ratios, achieve the goals of the organizational, and improve employee s productivity

Marx Vs Fanon
Following an extensive description of both Fanon and Marx distinct, yet similar
critique of their respective societal status quos upon time of writing, the focus of this
paper will shift towards each writer s philosophical explanation as to why their
assessment of both capitalist and colonial societies possesses logical reasoning.
Interestingly enough, Marx cites, the discovery of America, and the rounding of the
Cape, (Marx 718) as pivotal events in the the ultimate rise of modern industrialization,
revealing an intersection among historical materialists such as Fanon who configures
these events as the apply to the framework of post colonial discourse. With regards to
Marx s larger takeaway and intention, the philosopher s considers that... Show more

Central to Fanon s philosophy concerning the process of Decolonization rests the
mutual understanding among both groups that their positions are the result of
specific historic processes. Yet, under the oppression of the colonizers, the colonized
fail to empower themselves because the colonist, continues to fabricate the colonized
subject. (Fanon 826). This fabrication manifests in the colonizer s use of institutional
mechanisms such as education, incarceration and economic opportunity to
promulgate a collective identity in which the identity of the colonized remains that of
a people born less than their oppressors. Adopting this false identity, the colonized
community becomes, a sector of niggers, a sector of towelheads, whose, dreams of
possession, (Fanon 827) remain dreams until those colonized peoples are able to
empower themselves and overthrow the colonizer s systems of control. Like Marx,
Fanon seeks to deliberate the exact modes and methods by which the colonial system
retains power over the colonized peoples, their lands, and the resources which abound
throughout them. Unlike Marx, Fanon credits the direct subjectgation of countless
peoples from countless nations, tribes and languages to what race one belongs to.
(Fanon 827) The presupposition that the colonizer forever remains, first and foremost
the outsider (Fanon 827) further supports the philosopher s absolute means of
societal upheaval in that Marxist economic theories of oppression pertaining to the
bankers, customs house, and elsewhere fails to account for the sociological
justifications which the colonial system propagates
Analysis Of I Don t Have A Mama
1. See, I said, you don t have any family and neither do I. I ve got the preacher, of
course. But I don t have a mama. I mean I have one, but I don t know where she is.
She left when I was three years old. I can t hardly remember her. And I bet you don
t remember your mama much either. So we re almost like orphans pg 21. Opal say
this to Winn Dixie when Opal takes him into their home and considers him a family
member. The quote makes the image of her and Winn Dixie s lives very lonely
and sad. This makes me think she has no one to talk to and that her father is just
there. Why doesn t she count her father as family? The image makes it look like
her father is not emotionally connected to her and she need more love in her life.
The reason why I can connect and relate to the book is because I only have a mother. I
grew up in a single parenthousehold. My father pasted away when I was Twelve
years old. I didn t even know my father that well even in those Twelve years. I can
relate with Opal not being able to recall anything about a parent. My mother doesn t
talk about my father so it is hard to know things and to know what and how she is
thinking. Opal can relate to this because her father doesn t talk much about her
mother either. Whenever my mother does say something I will keep it in my
memories forever because it s the only things I have to hold on to about my father.
Opal did the same thing when her father told her ten things about her mother. Opal

Learning Styles By Different Types Of Learning
Learning is a very important thing in our life. Every day a person learns new things
until the end of their life. People cannot stop the learning and everyone starts learning
from childhood. For example, when the baby born, they learn about suck, eat, crawl
and walk, and then they develop into children and their bodies ready to learn more
than one form of thinking it includes personality, senses, feelings and values. A.K.,
Whiren, AP. (2004).
The VARK learning Stylestell that everyone has a different personality to learn.
VARK divided a learningstyles by different types of learning like, Visual, Aural,
Reading and writing, and kinesthetic and the mixture. The V which stands for
Visual represents people who learn from Charts, Diagram and pictures. They are
people who have to see a new thing to believe them. The A stands for auditory and
they learn best from talking and hearing. The Reading and Writing categories
identifies who learns best by reading and writing. The K stands for kinesthetic and
the people who identify as kinesthetic learn best by demonstration, practice and to
see movies of real things. And the last one VARK identify learning style is mixed.
People use various styles for learning rather than one style. Through this learning
style people can get new knowledge and share the new knowledge with each other.
There also is a different kind of learning such as in a group and class room or in work
and community school as well as self learning. Seema learns best
The Main Causes Of The Meiji Restoration In Japan
The main causes of the Meiji Restoration
Meiji Restoration was a significant historical event not only in Japanese history but
also in world history. A study (Hunt, Lynn, Thomas, Barbara, 2009) concluded that
the word Meiji means enlightened rule and the goal was to combine modern
advances with eastern values. This event restored practical imperial rule to Japan
under Emperor Meiji in 1868 ( Meiji Restoration , 2017). As a result, it led to the
tremendous changes in political and social structure of Japan, and spanned both the
Late Tokugawa period and the beginning of the Meiji period ( Meiji Restoration ,
2017). The main causes of Meiji Restoration can be analyzed from the following
different aspects.
1) Ecological crisis
Japan was divided into 240 han which were governed by its own daimyo. After 1720,
although some places prospered and others declined which depended on local
circumstances, a whole Japan began to experience ecological crisis. To be specific,
the number of Japanese population doubled from 15 million to 30 million. In
general, the increase in population put pressure on the environment and made it
easier for people to suffer from natural disasters such as famines and typhoons. These
led to ecological crisis which helped destabilize Tokugawa rule and brought about
further reform.
2) Foreign relation crisis and political crisis
In the world history, European countries became stronger due to two events in the
1630s. Firstly, some European countries
Zeitoun Book Report
Sitting in english class, you are handed this book called Zeitoun. Weeks go by, and
you just finished the book; but then your teacher has some news about the book.
News that would alter the way you feel about the book. Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers, is

he had to go through all of this, Eggers portrays Zeitoun as this unbreakable super

Eggers did a fantastic job of showing this. Taking the way he wrote could lead to
clues that he actually did try to incorporate the way Zeitoun treated his wife and
family. Eggers really did not fully show that Zeitoun was an unbreakable superhero.
He shows how Zeitoun and Kathy disagree on things and how they argue.(Nashe)
When Zeitoun and Kathy went on that walk to this huge rock, Kathy said multiple
times how she wanted to turn back around and forget about what they promised.
Zeitoun would not let her turn around. He would say that they had come to far to
turn back. This could allude to the abuse he put Kathy under. The rock could be the
goal, and Zeitoun would want to stay together and prove that they had a strong
marriage and a strong will to grow together. Kathy turning around could act like her
wanting to give up everything they went through and for the both of them to start
off brand new; but Zeitoun won. They walked to the rock, but even though Kathy
kept up the strong act for a while, it did not last. Eggers also showed he was
stubborn and that he put a lot of effort into his work. Zeitoun eventually became a
workaholic, partly because of the fact he was imprisoned. After the storm though,
Eggers shows how both of them are broken.(Nashe) Without indirectly adding these
little hints, it is easy to say that Eggers probably did not know about the abuse; but
since there are the tiny hint, it is possible to say that Eggers might have known about
some of it. He might not have known all the details, but he perhaps knew a little
something. He does not have the right to come out and just say that Kathy was
abused because he used what the family gave to him. If they gave him the
information, he should have said something, but if they did not give him the
information he can not just accuse Zeitoun. The fact that Eggers and the filmmaker,
Jonathan Demme, said Our primary
Ethics Essay
Ethics Essay
The thesis of this paper is to review the Week Two Discussion Questions and
address individual responsibility within their community. I will write about ways
that people can give back to their community. I will also be describing an event I
took part in done within my community to be a part of it. Lastly, I will address the
free rides that are within all communities and what to do about them. while
incorporating the materials covered in both Week One and Week Two of the Course.
Responsibility within the Community

Not everyone has the same responsibility, but all some type of responsibility but just
living in the community and have an inherent duty to the community. All need to
participate when and where they feel comfortable and are able. Chapter 2 of Basic
Ethics goes on to explain that by being involved in community activities, everyone
involved will see a a significant advantage to living in the community.
Individual Socially Responsible Efforts
Within the last year, I participated in a community park clean up event where
volunteers went and repaired playground equipment, removed overgrown brush from
trails and picked up trash. This greatly improved our community s appearance to all
driving by and gives the community a sense of pride.
Community Benefits
When addressing the potential results if members of a community accepting their
community s benefits, but decline to contribute to the community other than
paying taxes, you think of additional cost. For every dollar spent trying to evict the
free riders from the community, a dollar is taken away from another program and
someone else suffers a loss of benefit. With that in mind, there must come a time
when the free riders must be addressed and normally the set standard of tolerance is
5 to 10 percent. When over 5 to 10 percent of the population become free riders ,
they must be addressed because at this point, all programs suffer loss of funding.

Japanese Naval Colossal
Have you ever thought about the reason for the defeat of the Imperialistic Japanese
Naval Colossal? The Japanese lost many aircraft carriers, military personnel, and
aircraft turning the tide in the Pacific Theater. From December, 1941, until the spring
of 1942, Japanese forces conquered British, Dutch, and U.S. possessions in East Asia
and the Pacific Ocean (Watson). The Japanese fast and powerful ships helped them
extend their dominance. United Statessteps in when the Japanese invaded French

Japanese. This angered the Japanese, So they planned to take over the oil wells in

It crushed the naval dominance of the Japanese Navy. The United States Navy was
now able to produce more ships and aircrafts. The Japanese lost their four largest
aircraft carriers,as well as 275 planes and about 3,000 military personnel (Watson).
The United States, by contrast, lost only one carrier (the Yorktown), one destroyer,
150 planes, and 307 personnel (Watson). Japanese morale and their dominance was
crushed by this battle.
There were many heroes fought in this battle. Chester W Nimitz was the commander
of the United States fleet. Japanese Pacific fleet commander of the battle was Chuichi
Nagumo. Isoroku Yamamoto planned and assembled the attack and also was the
commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
Battle of Midway was the turning point in the war. This destroyed most of the
aircraft carriers and many of their ships. This battle keeps them on the run. If Battle
of Midway was a victory for the Japanese, then the allies would lose the war and we
would be under the control of Fascist dictators and lose many of our birth

Analysis Of The Book Reena Patel Essay
The author of the book, Reena Patel is a feminist scholar and the theme of her book
is specifically on the mobility and inequality faced by women in the society due to
their timings of employment at the Call Center Industry. The study is the first in
depth research on the transnational call center industry which has been written from
the women worker s point of view. Reena Patel conducted an Ethnographic study in
the cities of Mumbai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad. The new challenges faced by them
with regard to the night shift employment alongside the opportunities to work in an
upscale globalised work environment, and the attraction towards a relatively high
wage is a source of fast access to money.
The Call center Industry with its globalised work environment and high wages has
attracted many women in liberating their lives. The main theme of the book around
which the rich narratives are woven for women is the Spatial temporal conversion
regarding their flexibility in the urban setup in India. The repercussions experienced
by women of exploring the night as a time and space of the night time, belonging to
men according to the traditional Indian society idea. There are patriarchal notions
attached to the idea of women getting out of the households at night to work in a
public space and is vulnerable to the rising violence in our country against women.
The nocturnal space is considered to be a man s domain and if invaded by a female

How Did The Dodge Challenger Change
The Dodge Challenger, Dodge s answer to the Ford Mustang... Six years too late.
The Challenger came out in 1970 to compete with Chevy s Camaro and Ford s
Mustang. The Camaro and Mustang were already too far ahead anf Dodge had to
struggle. Dodge tried hard to make the Challenger seem like a cool car by having
performance borrowed from the Dodge Charger with an insane choice of Nine
different engines were available which ranged from family friendly v6 s to insane
Hemi v8 s pulling 400 plus horsepower, way more than the current Camaro and

enhancements that included two tail lights instead of a single one in the rear like the
Charger. The Challenger was changed throughout its first generation. Despite the
effort Dodge decided to cease production after only four years.

The Jonbenet Case And The Six Year Old Beauty Queen
The JonBenet Case Several analyses have been conducted when it comes to the
JonBenet case, in which it is assumed that the parents of JonBenet murder the six
year old beauty queen. Due to the investigation that was conducted the case is still
unresolved. A different outcome could have arisen if the initial policeofficers and
investigators would have focused on looking for other suspects other than JonBenet s
parents, secured the scene, and separated and interrogated the people inside the scene.
The forensic evidencethat was discovered that day was unreliable due to the
standard procedures that were not followed. The first step in maintaining a crime
scene integrity is to properly secure the scene and the immediate vicinity around it.
If a crime scene is properly secured unnecessary disturbance and contamination of
the evidence is reduced. Immediately after the scene is secured an entry log is kept
to account for any person who is inside or is wanting to go inside. Shoe impressions
may be asked for comparison if any latent shoeprints are found. However, this
protocol was not observed in the murder of JonBenet. The scene was left unsecured,
and individuals were entering as they pleased. Secondly, investigators did not follow
the standard operation procedures compromising the crime

Nelson Lichtenstein (2005), a strong unionist, believes that the size of Wal Mart
means they cannot truly stay as a private organisation. By its very existence and
competitive success, it rezones cities, determines the real minimum wage, channels
capital throughout the world and conducts a kind of international diplomacy with a
range of nations.
He likens Wal Mart to General Motors claiming that was the last time a U.S.
corporation had such power, which was 50 years ago. General Motors was the
largest and most profitable U.S. corporation. It was a major player in many areas
from aircraft production to household appliances and the GM Acceptance
Corporation was by far the largest retail credit institution in the United States. Like
Wal Mart today, GM had no competition that could threaten its dominance. GM s
sales at the time amounted to about 2% of U.S. GDP which is just about where Wal
Mart stands today. (Lichtenstein, 2005)
However unlike Wal Mart, General Motors was proud to provide high wages. It
provided wages so that the employee could be the breadwinner and in doing so

My Responsibility To America
My responsibility to America is to be an informed voter when the time comes. In
this essay the talking points will be why it is important to vote, and how to be an
informed voter. According to Reference.com, Voting gives citizens a voice in the
government, allowing them to choose leaders and decide on issues. This is important
because when a person votes they are votingfor a candidate who they believe will
best represent the beliefs and values of the people, including themselves. Voting
allows the general population to elect a president, senators, judges, mayors, and
governors, therefore allowing everyone to voice their opinion. Also, if Americans
did not have the right to vote, we would be living in a society where one or a select
The History Of Rap Music
This paper will trace the history of rap music (also known as hip hop). The origins
of this music are found in the experiences of urban African Americans during the
1970s. One of the most unique elements of rap music is its vocal style. In 1979, the
record Rapper s Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang defined this style with its use of
speedy staccato word play and verbal dexterity (Perkins 11). However, as pointed
out by one of rap s early leaders, Afrika Bambaataa, the true roots of this vocal style
are found in the previous developments of African American culture. These
developments include not only the traditional musical and storytelling styles
brought over from Africa, but also such things as the style of speech used by the
civil rights leader Malcolm X. Summing up Bambaataa s views on the roots of rap,
Perkins says: The rap tradition has been nurtured on the accumulated and residual
forms of African and African American music, verbal art, and personal style as
well as the constant process of self innovation within each of these elements (5). In
addition to its unique vocal style, rap music is also characterized by its innovative
approach to creating a musical background for the lyrics. This musical style was
developed in New York City during the 1970s by various DJ s (disc jockeys) such as
Kool Herc, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Caz. In particular, many people credit the
New Yorker Grandmaster Flash with the important innovation of creating a rhythmic
beat
Gear accountability
Gear accountability is one of my most important things I must do as a United
States marine. Many things go into keeping track of your own military gear as
well as personal gear. Cif gear for example. All of the gear that is issued to me I
must make sure I have everything at all times, otherwise if I lose a piece of gear I
must fill out a missing gear statement, get it signed off by my section head, the
platoon sergeant, and my platoon officer. I always have to make sure that all my gear
is clean before any kind of field op. I have miss placed gear before in the past
because I didn t keep track of it. Every day a marineloses a piece of gear, whether it is
from a field op, moving barracks rooms, or when I am getting ready to go on annual...

If you lose a piece of gear while you are in the field then the entire field op will stop
doing what they are doing and you will all search for that missing piece of
serialized gear. Losing a piece of gear could also be a direct violation of article 108
of the UCMJ. Violation of article 108 could possibly be resulted by a court martial
and bad conduct discharge and confinement for a year. If you are not being
responsible about gear accountability then that could potentially find its way back
and make your higher ups look bad. Another reason that gear accountability is
important is because all of the gear that you are issued is re issued to another
marine after you turn it back in that is why it is also important that you do not lose
any of you gear no matter how big or small that piece of gear might be. If you lose
enough gear then when you get court martial then you are actually spending more of
the marine corps money and making them waste their time doing all of the paper
work because you did not want to be accountable for your gear. another reason why
the marine corps is so strict on accountability is that out of all of the branches of the
military the marine corps has the smallest amount of money and does not have to
money to go out and buy more gear that marines lost. Gear accountability is not just
important when you get to the fleet marine force but it is also important through
marine corps recruit training, marine combat training and also through your
Chillingworth The Guiltiest Sinner
Puritans believed that few are chosen by God to be saved and that only God is the
one that knows who are saved and who are not. They believe that if they live a
humble life during their time on earth, they will have higher chance of going into
Heaven. In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne introduces three main characters
who have committed a sin. Out of Hester, Dimmesdale and Chillingworth, in the view
of Puritans belief of sin, Chillingworth is the guiltiest sinner of all because
according to Puritan s belief, sin is unforgivable if the sinner does not repent even to
their death. In the beginning of the book, Chillingworth reveals his intentions and his
plan for revenge. Chillingworth is determined to seek this man and see him tremble
(Hawthorne 145). At this time, the reader can understand the feeling of betrayal
Chillingworth has and can see why he seeks for revenge. However, his thirst for
revenge changes his features how much uglier they were how his dark complexion
seemed to have grown duskier, and his figure more misshapen (Hawthorne 219). The
result of his sin is that his physical appearance started to deteriorate and his evilness
grows within him, turning him insane.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dimmesdale makes a remark about Chillingworth that they are not the worst sinners
in the world, but that there is one worse than even the polluted priest, referring to
himself (Hawthorne 389). Dimmesdale states, That old man s revenge has been
blacker than my sin. He has violated, in cold blood, the sanctity of a human heart.
Thou and I, Hester, never did so (Hawthorne 389). This reveals that Chillingworth is
the worst sinner out of the entire book, even worse than Hester and Dimmesdale who
have committed an adultery, which was considered one of the greatest sins at that
time in the view of Puritan s

Retirement Benefits For Small Businesses
Retirement is a major life event. Many people are living in retirement well beyond
20 years. For this reason, planning for retirement is vital. Unfortunately few
Americans are saving adequately for their retirement. Reports reveal that a
startling 68% of working aged people, age 25 64, do not participate in an employer
sponsored plan. One reason for this is because a large number of Americans work
for small businesses that do not provide retirement benefits. Small businesses are not
required to provide retirement benefits to their employees. Owners of small
businesses may feel overwhelmed with the responsibility of choosing a retirement
plan that will be appropriate for the company and their employees. There are two
main types of retirement plans: the defined benefits plan and the defined contribution
plan . Knowing the options for small business retirement plans and understanding
the difference between them will help to make the decision making process easier.
Details Defined Benefits Plan The Defined Benefits Plan, also known as the
traditional pension or pension plan , identifies the specific benefit that will be
payable to the employee at retirement. Certain factors such as the number of years an
employee works for the employer and the employee s salary are factored into a
formula for this basic retirement benefit. An employee generally receives a set
monthly amount upon retirement. This monthly income is guaranteed for the
duration of the retiree s life
Family Planning
Introduction
Family planning is the planning of when to have children, and the use of birth control
and other techniques to implement such plans. Other techniques commonly used
include sexuality education, prevention and management of sexually transmitted
infections, pre conception counseling and management, and infertility management.
Family planning is sometimes used in the wrong way also as a synonym for the use
of birth control, though it often includes more. It is most usually applied to a female
male couple who wish to limit the number of children they have and/or to control the
timing of pregnancy (also known as spacing children). Family planning may
encompass sterilization, as well as abortion.

The Catholic Church teaches the necessity of responsible parenthood and correct
family planning (one child at a time depending on one s circumstances), while at the

modern natural family planning, a method of fertility awareness, is in accord with
God s design, as couples give themselves to each other as they are. The RH bill
intends to help couples to have government funded access to artificial contraception

History of Nigerian Ports Authority
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The history of port development in Nigeria dates back to the middle of 19th century.
This was long after the onset of sea borne trade and transactions which followed the
adventures of early explorations on the African coasts. Initial efforts towards
provision of facilities for ocean going vessels were the attempts to open up the
entrance to the Lagos Lagoon. Considerable littoral drift occurred along this coast;
and the constantly shifting channels in the bar at the entrance made entry very
difficult.
On February 1, 1914, the first mail steamer S/S AKOKO drawing 5.64 metres
entered the Lagos harbour. Two months later, vessels began to use the facilities
provided at the Customs wharf on Lagos Island.
Prior to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Authority also within this period continued to sustain the efforts already made
towards expansion of ports facilities in Lagos and Port Harcourt. In Lagos, six
berths of 943 metres were added to the existing ones, while four berths with a total
quay length of 506 metres were added to the facilities and steps were taken to
mechanize the traffic operations in these ports. In this era, port development
approach became tailored along declared national objectives. The Authority s
development strategy became programmed to fall in line with the first National
Development Plan 1962 1968. The second Apapa Wharf Extension was executed and
so also were further improvements of port facilities in Port Harcourt. The sum N45M
was spent during this period on the two ports.
CIVIL WAR ERA 1967 1970
This period had tremendous impact on the ports industry in Nigeria. The security
aspect of ports came into sharp focus. Port Harcourt (Rivers Ports) was closed to
foreign traffic. Lagos thus became the only available port serving the country s
maritime transportation needs.
The Federal Military Government enacted a special decree which empowered the
Nigerian Ports Authority to acquire the ports of Warri, Burutu and Calabar,
previously operated by private entrepreneurs. Holts Transport were former owners
of Warri Port, UAC owned Burutu Port. Calabar Port was originally owned by five
operators. NPA spent N3.35 million at the time to acquire these

Normal Heart Rate Chart
The heart is an organ located just behind and slightly to the left of the breastbone,
and pumps blood through a network of veins and arteries known as the circulatory
system. The right atrium is sent blood from the veins, and delivers it to the right
ventricle. It is then pumped to the lungs where it is oxygenated. The left atrium
collects the oxygen enriched blood from the lungs and delivers it to the left ventricle,
where it is pumped throughout the body, and the ventricle contractions create blood

Heart Rate During Exercise
Your maximum heart rate is the highest heart rate that is achieved during strenuous
exercise. One method to calculate your approximate maximum heart rate is the
formula: 220 (your age) = approximate maximum heart rate. For example, a 30 year
old s approximate maximum heart rate is 220 30 = 190 beats/min.
You can maximize the benefits and reduce the risks when you are exercising within
your target heart rate zone. Your target heart rate when exercising is normally 60 to
80 percent of your maximum heart rate. This may be increased or decreased
depending on your health factors, and your health care provider may want you to
limit the target heart rate zone to 50 percent. However, it is not recommended to
exceed 85 percent of your maximum heart rate. Anything above 85 percent increase
risks to the orthopedic and cardiovascular system, with minimal added benefits from
the exercise.

This review targeted on the functional basis and gene structure of cancer

There were two classes of cancer susceptibility variants identified. First one was the
rare moderate penetrance variants that were known through the candidate genes,
which had a risk allele frequency of less than 2%. An example of this would be
when other genes encoded proteins in the DNA damage, which is associated with
breast cancer risk. The second one would be the common low penetrance alleles,
which had risk allele frequency less than 5%. This reflected upon the various
subgroups of risk alleles that were detected. GWAS compared the frequency of
common DNA variations with healthy individuals. Figure 2 showed the performance
of DNA samples that were taken. The controls and patients DNA samples were
genotyped using genome platforms that analyzed genetic variations in single
nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). There should be a match between the patients and
controls to attenuate the false positive associations. To minimize them, statistical
thresholds like Bonferroni correction is used. Bonferroni correction is a common
threshold for genome wide significance of a P value that is less than 0.00000005, or a
5% significance level for millions of tests. The threshold is used for sequencing
studies or genome imputation of ten million variants, assuming that linkage
disequilibrium would be equivalent to a million independent tests. Also, the

Gossip Girl is an American teen soap opera based on the book series by Cecily von

Ultimately, the privileged Upper East Side lifestyle is a metaphor for the American
Dream. While the show presents this lifestyle as the goal, it also suggest that like the
modern day American Dream, it is unattainable. While Gossip Girl was intended to
mock immoral societal values, the plot actually romanticizes materialism, ego and
moral corruption to create drama and viewer interest. The character of Blair Waldorf
exemplifies consumerism and obsession with material items. Blair is known as the
Queen Bee of the Upper East Side. She is intelligent and talented but competitive,
egotistical, and ruthless. She defines herself by others perceptions of her. Most of
all she is known for her fashion, everything she wears is articulately planning and
exceedingly pricey. As she says, Fashion knows not of comfort. All that matters is
the face that you show the world . Although her shopping exploits would be

Cooper points out, the show never condemns Blair for being frivolous and
extravagant. The continuous reference to and display of designer items, expensive
vacations, luxury cars and parties contributes a brand name culture (Pattee). Media
texts such as TV shows are known as unofficial socializing agents. Media should not
shape our societal values and view of the world, but nevertheless they do. (Bindig).

The Moral Issue Of Euthanasia
1. For this assignment I chose the moral issue of Euthanasia. The case study is
about a 20 year old woman dying of ovarian cancer and decides to be euthanized. I
feel that this case was extremely relevant, especially with the rise of trend in today
s society. Euthanasia is currently a very popular thing that is continuing to grow in
other states as congress decides whether or not to make it legal or refuse to pass it
and keep it as illegal. I feel that by looking at this case study I hope to determine
whether or not Euthanasiais ethical or moral and the circumstances that would
inhibit Euthanasia from being ethical or the circumstances that would make it
ethical. I will first discuss the case and discuss the background information on the
case, after this I will look at the case through an ethical lens and identify all the
possibly moral and ethical issues involved with the case. I will reach my own
conclusion on the case and determine, in my own opinion, on whether or not I
believe the case is moral/ethical. I will also give evidence for my beliefs and how
I reached the opinion and final decision that I hope to reach by the end of this
paper. Finally, I will discuss the Bible and any specific cases that it discusses the
moral issue of euthanasia involved with this specific and delicate case. After
approaching it biblically with what the Bible says, I hope to be able to infer
completely whether or not this case can be successfully judged as morally right or
wrong, as

some clean oxygen air, filter dust and kill bacteria. Why is the forest disappearing?
The answer from scientists is that except deforest the main reason for the forest
disappears is climate change. Climate change which involves the rising of
temperature could lead to drought, wildfire even forest disappear.
Research reveals that climate change leads to drought, which causes trees to grow
more slowly.Researchers found some tree in Canada s northern greenbelt is

trees all over the world. They found the results are very different that trees growth
rate decreases nine percent an average over the first years and five percent less the
second year. According to the news, soil moisture is less than forty percent of normal
after some dry years. The weather becomes warmer and drier which result in no
enough water. There were sixty to eighty five percent of normal precipitation in this

Cafe in 1867 when he invented a nutritious product for infants that mothers who
were not able to breastfeed could utilize. This nurturing product is what gave the
Nestle brand the security, affection, nourishment, and nature that everyone looks
for when trying to buy a trustworthy product. During the years, Henri Nestle created
specific brands of chocolates. His best chocolate was milk chocolate, which over
the years, he perfected and the Nestle Semi Sweet Chocolate bar. The Semi Sweet
Chocolate bar also led to one of the best creations that made his company
successful until this day. Henri Nestle passed away in 1890, but his products are
still being created and sold. A young woman, Ruth Wakefield, purchased a Cape
Cod style toll house that was located near Boston. For over hundreds of years, tons
of people passed through the toll house to pay tolls, change horses, eat well cooked
meals, and to even sleep in. Ruth one day was trying to make something new for the
business, a dessert that everyone would love. Ruth incorporated the Nestle Semi
Sweet Chocolate bar into her new creation by breaking it up into pieces and added
them into dough assuming that they would
The United States Armed Forces Rotary Wing Aircraft
The UH 60 Black Hawk has been in service for the better part of three decades. The
Army has invested into a new program called Future Vertical Lift (FVL). This
program will develop a replacement for the United States Armed Forces rotary
wing aircraft that include the UH 60 Black Hawk, AH 64 Apache, and CH 47
Chinook. The aim of the program is to develop an airframe that will combine
several roles into one aircraft, effectively cutting down costs for the military. Many
different design concepts are in in development. Companies such as Sikorsky,
Boeing, Bell, and Lockheed Martin are all building rotorcraft flight demonstrators
for 2017. The Army hopes to retire their aging aircraft with an airframe that can
encompass all aspects of heavy lift, utility, and attack into one common design at a
much more affordable price. The new helicopter should be faster, more agile, and
carry more troops and cargo father than ever before (Mizokami, 2016). The Vietnam
War, the first airmobile war spawned the combat helicopter. The Bell UH 1 Iroquoisor
simply known as the Huey provided that air mobility. Primarily designed as a medical
platform it did not possess all the requirements that fulfill all the United States Armys
requirements. The military had a need for an improved and more capable aircraft
to fill the shoes of the Huey. In 1972, the Army issued a tinder for a new front line
helicopter. It needed to be able to carry 11 combat troops plus 4 crewmembers and
cruise

Background
Little Hans (Herbert Graf) was born in April 1903 to Olga Graf (mother) and Max
Graf (father). He undertook four months of treatment, which was conducted by Hans
father himself, and supervised by Freud, who took somewhat of a backseat. Freud
wanted to explore what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contributed to Freud s idea of object choice and homosexuality in children
suggesting that most children have homosexual tendencies as they are only
acquainted with one kind of genital organ. Freud intimates that because little Hans
had a widdler, and gave so much importance to it, he chose to have this familiar
feature as his sexual object. It is also important to note that in his future development
he demonstrated an energetic masculinity with traits of polygamy; he knew how to
vary his behaviour, too, with his varying feminine objects audaciously aggressive in
one case, languishing and bashful in another. His affection had moved from his
mother on to other objects of love, but at a time when there was a scarcity of these it
returned to her.
Hans demonstrates elements of the sexual relations of a child to his parents discussed
in Interpretation of Dreams [1900a, in Section D (ОІ) of Chapter V; Standard Ed., 4,
248 ff.] and in Three Essays [1905d, Standard Ed., 7, 222 ff.] with regard to being a
little Oedipus who who wanted to have his father out of the way , to get rid of him,
so that he might be alone with his beautiful mother and sleep with her. This wish had
originated during his summer holidays at Gmunden and had developed with the
alternating presence and absence of his father (due to work commitments). Hans
identified that his fathers absenteeism gave
The Battle Of The Spanish American War
Lucy Chung Professor Hawkins HIS 173 B 16 December 2014 America was
enthusiastic when the results of the Spanish American war provided them with an
opportune time to finally be able to implement and exercise their political ideologies
on smaller and more vulnerable nations. They believed very confidently that they
could successfully restructure these nations, acquired from the Treaty of Paris, to
construct municipal governments that would reflect the American styled democratic
system. Americans set forth various Colonial projects that would provide these small
nations with proper political education with the expectation that they would be able
self govern accordingly. They wanted to instill ideologies of free trade, democracy,
and maybe even the sense of justice and liberty that Americans felt was God s truth.
In this argument, I believe the failures of the initial Philippine colonial project not
only retrogressed the islanders back into their primitive informal aristocracy but
actually help unify and modernize a regime that was the complete reversal of
American intentions. The result of the type of Filipino government after
reconstruction were significantly constrained by Anti Imperialists tensions from the
metropole and continued to reshape itself by many additional constraints from the
Filipino legislation. Only about fifty years later of political administration would
enable the development of an autonomic government. The implementation of the
colonial project for
Public Speaking Reflection
Like some people, public speaking is not my forte. When I enrolled in speech
communication class, I believed that this class will be a great opportunity for me
to improve on one of my biggest weaknesses, and at the end, which I believe has
successfully improved on. From delivering the speeches in class and also being a
listener to speeches of other members of the class has been an interesting
experience. When I initially began this class, I had little knowledge on what is in
store aside from that I knew I would be speaking in front of the class. This class has
benefited me by allowing to improvise and assess on each speech I delivered during
the semester and also learninghow to organize a speech from researching a topic till

Using power points while speaking was new to me which was one of the areas I
think I really needed help with coming into this class. So, for this speech, I
rehearsed till I was fluent. On the day of presentation, I was less nerve wrecked
and more comfortable to speak in front of the class. My organization was better
than I expected and I was able to change from one topic of the speech to another
without much of a problem. I believe I had good eye contact, volume, and shown a
little improvement in rhythm. After receiving a better grade than the first speech,
I had to still work on minor grammatical errors and I omitted to cite my sources
orally. Next, for the group presentation based on reflective thinking method, my
group decided to talk about a rising concern in the society Artificial Intelligence , I
researched on various problems that could affect the world if the robots
completely do take over the world in the future. Also, when I introduced the topic
to the audience I added a real incident which led to the death of a person who was
driving a self driving car. I made good eye contact with the audience and delivered
my part of the speech within the time frame but I had to improve my articulation and
enunciation. For the final persuasive speech, I decided to talk about Blood Donation .
It was different and more challenging

Of course, there is always that option of getting an apartment or home outside of
the school, but it is always fun to be in one of the school s dorms. There is
residence hall, which is like the dorms on campus. Then there is family student
housing which is for students with a family. There is also a daycare center for the
little ones of the students for when they have to go to class. On campus, they also
have apartments that you could rent instead of the normal dorms. Newly admitted
single students are guaranteed on campus housing for at least their first two years.
As long as you keep up with all the housing deadlines and requirements, you are
guaranteed housing for all four years. UCR has great housing options for all students
who are going to attend the

Short Stories In Essays.pdf

  • 1. Short Stories In Essays Writing an essay on the topic of "Short Stories in Essays" presents its own set of challenges. The inherent complexity lies in the need to seamlessly integrate two distinct literary forms – the short story and the essay. Each form demands a unique set of skills and approaches, making the task of combining them into a cohesive piece a daunting one. Firstly, crafting a compelling short story requires the ability to build characters, develop plotlines, and evoke emotions within a limited word count. Short stories thrive on brevity and conciseness, demanding a writer's proficiency in creating impactful narratives within a confined space. Balancing the art of storytelling with the constraints of brevity poses a considerable challenge. On the other hand, the essay component demands analytical thinking, a structured approach, and a coherent presentation of ideas. Essays often require a clear thesis statement, well-organized paragraphs, and effective transitions between thoughts. Merging these structural elements with the creative freedom necessary for short stories adds an additional layer of difficulty. Moreover, navigating the intersection between fiction and analysis can be challenging. Ensuring that the short story not only complements but enhances the overarching message of the essay is crucial. Striking the right balance between creativity and critical thinking requires a delicate touch, making this task intellectually demanding. In conclusion, composing an essay on the amalgamation of short stories and essays poses a considerable challenge due to the inherent differences in these two literary forms. Achieving a seamless integration of narrative creativity and analytical depth requires a writer's adeptness in both domains. It's a task that demands finesse and skill to produce a coherent and engaging piece of writing. • 2. One Thousand and One Nights Essay Underlying Power One thousand and one nights, one thousand and one moral stories. The story of The Thousand and One Nights is a unique tale that teaches simple morals throughout the many stories within the main story. This tale is about a clever women that saves herself, as well as the women in her kingdom, from being put to death by the king. She does this by marring the king and telling him bedtime stories every night that lead into the next day. She would purposely not finish the story, to leave him interested in the ending which eventually saves her life, and the womenin her kingdom, day after day. Not only does the main story have a lesson to be learned, but the mini stories also have simple morals to be learned. The Tale of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This powerful vow would eventually wipe out the kingdom that he was ruling over. The wife never would have imagined she had so much influence on one person. The king s wife s actions was the cause of this vow that was made. The story of the demon and his wife also show the power of women. The power illustrated here is the power that she has over two kings. She knew that they would be afraid of the demon, and used their fear to her advantage. As said in the text: Then she lay on her back, raised her legs, and said, Make love to me and satisfy need, or else I shall wake the demon, and he will kill you. They replied, For God s sake, mistress, don t do this to us, for at this moment we feel nothing but dismay and fear of this demon. Please, excuse us. She replied, You must, and insisted, swearing, By God who created the heavens, if you don t do it, I shall wake my husband the demon and ask him to kill you and throw you into the sea. As she persisted, they could no longer resist and they made love to her, first the older brother, then the younger. (1574) Unlike the other two women, Shahrazad, the vizier s daughter, used her womanly powers to save instead of destroy or deceive. Even though her life was at stake, she put herself in the position to be the heroine for the kingdom. But morning
  • 3. The Hurricane, Directed by Norman Jewison Essay I have recently viewed the film The Hurricane , directed by Norman Jewison and starring Denzel Washington as Rubin Hurricane Carter, the boxer jailed for crimes he did not commit. This emotional drama is a fantastic watch, with Rubin and his friends battling for his freedom after twenty years of unfair punishment. This film has been a hit all over the world and not only is it a great watch worth every penny but it sends out messages about believing in yourself and never giving up in what you believe. This action packed review will attempt to talk you through this roller coaster of a story. Hold on tight! Washington was the perfect choice for the role of Rubin Carter, putting forward a vision of a strong willed and unfairly treated man whose life has been littered with injustices. His work as Rubin Hurricane Carter is on a par with his work as Malcolm X . Washington relishes in his role as the victimised boxer and puts his all into every scene, easily deserving his award for best actor. The manner in which Washington plays Rubin Carter makes the audience instantly get behind him in his fight for freedom simply the way in which he talks about his life in the jail earns sympathy from the viewers which helps make this film such a hit. A clever addition into the film by Jewison is the sub plot including a young boy named Lesra, played by Vicellous Reon Shannon, who is offered schooling by three Canadians as they believe he has the potential to become very clever if he is given the right guidance. After a few years of teaching he reads a book written by Rubin Carter called The 16th Round his autobiography which completely captivates Lesra, inspiring him to write to the boxer and over time they become good friends with Lesra paying regular visits. The people Lesra is staying with are appalled when they hear about Rubins case and decide to help him in his battle
  • 4. Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame Essay Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame To some, including myself, baseball is the greatest sport that has ever been played. It is a game played by two opposing teams made of multiple players, but only nine players per team play at the same time. To be part of one of the thirty teams that get to play professional baseball, a player has to play the game extremely well (www.baseballhalloffame.com). When a player plays the game better than most have played he gets rewarded, usually with lots of money in a big contract. Then there are those rare players, the 244 elite players of the game that have already been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Being inducted in the Hall of Fame is the utmost of baseball fame. The players listed are remembered forever. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He did not report cash money he accepted for signing baseballs and photographs at baseball card shows (Reston 1997). It is still to this day not proven that Rose did bet on the baseball team that he was managing. Rose himself still holds true to his statement that he never bet on the game of baseball. Evidence is minimal and it has been over ten years, yet he is still ineligible to be voted into the Hall of Fame. If it was left up to his statistics, he should have been inducted years ago. There are a handful of the 244 elites that are in the Hall of Fame that did far worse things than gamble on the game of baseball or evade paying their taxes. For instance, the beloved Ty Cobb was a horrible racist and once admitted killing a man. One day while walking in Detroit, he stepped in freshly poured asphalt. Then a construction worker, named Fred Collins, who just happened to be black, yelled at him. Cobb responded by slapping Collins to the ground. Cobb was found guilty by the courts, and received a suspended sentence. Collins filed a civil suit, but settled out of court for $75. Ty Cobb had to deal with the law in one form or another many different times for striking black men (www.totalbaseball.com). The powers that run the baseball organization seem to turn their eyes, quite conveniently, away from any number of wife beaters, and drug addict s everyday. They let known, proven criminals

Due to its large strength to weight ratio, steel structures tend to be more economical than concrete structures for tall buildings and large span buildings and bridges. Steel structures can be constructed very fast. Steel structures are ductile and robust. Steel structures can be easily repaired and retrofitted to carry higher loads. This project will focus on gauging the success of the company s market entry strategy thus far. Starbucks has announced in a press release that it believes China will be its #2 market by 2014, and the company has been one of the most successful American companies in that market (Starbucks, 2012). The company entered the Chinese market in 1999 with a store in Beijing. This followed the acquisition of greater knowledge about Chinese business culture through outlets in Taiwan. The company initially used a licensing agreement to enter the Chinese market (Starbucks, 2010). Since that point in time, the company extended its presence in the Chinese market in 2000 with a different licensee partner in Shanghai. In 2002, a third partner was added to help Starbucks expand into Shenzhen, two years after entering the Hong Kong market. Using these three major markets as a base, the company expanded from Shenzhen to Guangzhou and from Shanghai to Ningbo, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou. By 2005, the company was ready to open its first company owned store, in Qingdao, an area of the country not overlapping with the existing licensee agreements. Over time, the company has increased its equity positions in some of the joint ventures, and it has also opened more company owned stores, and even bought back some stores. I researched three different styles of team leadership to be able to provide you with a sufficient amount of background to be confident in my recommendation for you. Leadership It is appropriate that I mention a few things about leadership prior to delving into different leadership styles. In my research, I learned that the success of a leadership style can depend on the type of industry you are working in. Different styles will tend to be more effective in different working environments (Cunningham, Salomone, Wielgus, 2015). It is also known that different leadership styles induce various levels of how teams work together, team and individual job satisfaction, and self esteem (Ruggieri, Abbate, 2013). The leadership style of the leader is the main vehicle that a manager can use in order to increase the rate of success of their team (Cunningham, et al., 2015). By choosing an effective leadership style, you will have the opportunity to reduce employee turnover ratios, achieve the goals of the organizational, and improve employee s productivity and

Central to Fanon s philosophy concerning the process of Decolonization rests the mutual understanding among both groups that their positions are the result of specific historic processes. Yet, under the oppression of the colonizers, the colonized fail to empower themselves because the colonist, continues to fabricate the colonized subject. (Fanon 826). This fabrication manifests in the colonizer s use of institutional mechanisms such as education, incarceration and economic opportunity to promulgate a collective identity in which the identity of the colonized remains that of a people born less than their oppressors. Adopting this false identity, the colonized community becomes, a sector of niggers, a sector of towelheads, whose, dreams of possession, (Fanon 827) remain dreams until those colonized peoples are able to empower themselves and overthrow the colonizer s systems of control. Like Marx, Fanon seeks to deliberate the exact modes and methods by which the colonial system retains power over the colonized peoples, their lands, and the resources which abound throughout them. Unlike Marx, Fanon credits the direct subjectgation of countless peoples from countless nations, tribes and languages to what race one belongs to. (Fanon 827) The presupposition that the colonizer forever remains, first and foremost the outsider (Fanon 827) further supports the philosopher s absolute means of societal upheaval in that Marxist economic theories of oppression pertaining to the bankers, customs house, and elsewhere fails to account for the sociological justifications which the colonial system propagates

The Main Causes Of The Meiji Restoration In Japan The main causes of the Meiji Restoration Meiji Restoration was a significant historical event not only in Japanese history but also in world history. A study (Hunt, Lynn, Thomas, Barbara, 2009) concluded that the word Meiji means enlightened rule and the goal was to combine modern advances with eastern values. This event restored practical imperial rule to Japan under Emperor Meiji in 1868 ( Meiji Restoration , 2017). As a result, it led to the tremendous changes in political and social structure of Japan, and spanned both the Late Tokugawa period and the beginning of the Meiji period ( Meiji Restoration , 2017). The main causes of Meiji Restoration can be analyzed from the following different aspects. 1) Ecological crisis Japan was divided into 240 han which were governed by its own daimyo. After 1720, although some places prospered and others declined which depended on local circumstances, a whole Japan began to experience ecological crisis. To be specific, the number of Japanese population doubled from 15 million to 30 million. In general, the increase in population put pressure on the environment and made it easier for people to suffer from natural disasters such as famines and typhoons. These led to ecological crisis which helped destabilize Tokugawa rule and brought about further reform. 2) Foreign relation crisis and political crisis In the world history, European countries became stronger due to two events in the 1630s. Firstly, some European countries

Zeitoun would not let her turn around. He would say that they had come to far to turn back. This could allude to the abuse he put Kathy under. The rock could be the goal, and Zeitoun would want to stay together and prove that they had a strong marriage and a strong will to grow together. Kathy turning around could act like her wanting to give up everything they went through and for the both of them to start off brand new; but Zeitoun won. For every dollar spent trying to evict the free riders from the community, a dollar is taken away from another program and someone else suffers a loss of benefit. With that in mind, there must come a time when the free riders must be addressed and normally the set standard of tolerance is 5 to 10 percent. • 25. The History Of Rap Music This paper will trace the history of rap music (also known as hip hop). The origins of this music are found in the experiences of urban African Americans during the 1970s. One of the most unique elements of rap music is its vocal style. In 1979, the record Rapper s Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang defined this style with its use of speedy staccato word play and verbal dexterity (Perkins 11). However, as pointed out by one of rap s early leaders, Afrika Bambaataa, the true roots of this vocal style are found in the previous developments of African American culture. These developments include not only the traditional musical and storytelling styles brought over from Africa, but also such things as the style of speech used by the civil rights leader Malcolm X. Summing up Bambaataa s views on the roots of rap, Perkins says: The rap tradition has been nurtured on the accumulated and residual forms of African and African American music, verbal art, and personal style as well as the constant process of self innovation within each of these elements (5). In addition to its unique vocal style, rap music is also characterized by its innovative approach to creating a musical background for the lyrics. This musical style was developed in New York City during the 1970s by various DJ s (disc jockeys) such as Kool Herc, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Caz. In particular, many people credit the New Yorker Grandmaster Flash with the important innovation of creating a rhythmic beat

Another reason that gear accountability is important is because all of the gear that you are issued is re issued to another marine after you turn it back in that is why it is also important that you do not lose any of you gear no matter how big or small that piece of gear might be. If you lose enough gear then when you get court martial then you are actually spending more of the marine corps money and making them waste their time doing all of the paper work because you did not want to be accountable for your gear. another reason why the marine corps is so strict on accountability is that out of all of the branches of the military the marine corps has the smallest amount of money and does not have to money to go out and buy more gear that marines lost. Gear accountability is not just important when you get to the fleet marine force but it is also important through marine corps recruit training, marine combat training and also through your

They believe that if they live a humble life during their time on earth, they will have higher chance of going into Heaven. In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne introduces three main characters who have committed a sin. Out of Hester, Dimmesdale and Chillingworth, in the view of Puritans belief of sin, Chillingworth is the guiltiest sinner of all because according to Puritan s belief, sin is unforgivable if the sinner does not repent even to their death. In the beginning of the book, Chillingworth reveals his intentions and his plan for revenge. Chillingworth is determined to seek this man and see him tremble (Hawthorne 145). At this time, the reader can understand the feeling of betrayal Chillingworth has and can see why he seeks for revenge. However, his thirst for revenge changes his features how much uglier they were how his dark complexion seemed to have grown duskier, and his figure more misshapen (Hawthorne 219). The result of his sin is that his physical appearance started to deteriorate and his evilness grows within him, turning him insane.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reveals that Chillingworth is the worst sinner out of the entire book, even worse than Hester and Dimmesdale who have committed an adultery, which was considered one of the greatest sins at that time in the view of Puritan s

  • 29. Retirement Benefits For Small Businesses Retirement is a major life event. Many people are living in retirement well beyond 20 years. For this reason, planning for retirement is vital. Unfortunately few Americans are saving adequately for their retirement. Reports reveal that a startling 68% of working aged people, age 25 64, do not participate in an employer sponsored plan. One reason for this is because a large number of Americans work for small businesses that do not provide retirement benefits. Small businesses are not required to provide retirement benefits to their employees. Owners of small businesses may feel overwhelmed with the responsibility of choosing a retirement plan that will be appropriate for the company and their employees. There are two main types of retirement plans: the defined benefits plan and the defined contribution plan . Knowing the options for small business retirement plans and understanding the difference between them will help to make the decision making process easier. Details Defined Benefits Plan The Defined Benefits Plan, also known as the traditional pension or pension plan , identifies the specific benefit that will be payable to the employee at retirement. Certain factors such as the number of years an employee works for the employer and the employee s salary are factored into a formula for this basic retirement benefit. An employee generally receives a set monthly amount upon retirement. This monthly income is guaranteed for the duration of the retiree s life

  • 33. History of Nigerian Ports Authority HISTORICAL BACKGROUND The history of port development in Nigeria dates back to the middle of 19th century. This was long after the onset of sea borne trade and transactions which followed the adventures of early explorations on the African coasts. Initial efforts towards provision of facilities for ocean going vessels were the attempts to open up the entrance to the Lagos Lagoon. Considerable littoral drift occurred along this coast; and the constantly shifting channels in the bar at the entrance made entry very difficult. On February 1, 1914, the first mail steamer S/S AKOKO drawing 5.64 metres entered the Lagos harbour. Two months later, vessels began to use the facilities provided at the Customs wharf on Lagos Island. Prior to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Authority also within this period continued to sustain the efforts already made towards expansion of ports facilities in Lagos and Port Harcourt. In Lagos, six berths of 943 metres were added to the existing ones, while four berths with a total quay length of 506 metres were added to the facilities and steps were taken to mechanize the traffic operations in these ports. In this era, port development approach became tailored along declared national objectives. The Authority s development strategy became programmed to fall in line with the first National Development Plan 1962 1968. The second Apapa Wharf Extension was executed and so also were further improvements of port facilities in Port Harcourt. The sum N45M was spent during this period on the two ports. CIVIL WAR ERA 1967 1970 This period had tremendous impact on the ports industry in Nigeria. The security aspect of ports came into sharp focus. Port Harcourt (Rivers Ports) was closed to foreign traffic. Lagos thus became the only available port serving the country s maritime transportation needs. The Federal Military Government enacted a special decree which empowered the Nigerian Ports Authority to acquire the ports of Warri, Burutu and Calabar, previously operated by private entrepreneurs. Holts Transport were former owners of Warri Port, UAC owned Burutu Port. Calabar Port was originally owned by five operators. NPA spent N3.35 million at the time to acquire these

Normal Heart Rate Chart Normal Heart Rate Chart The heart is an organ located just behind and slightly to the left of the breastbone, and pumps blood through a network of veins and arteries known as the circulatory system. The right atrium is sent blood from the veins, and delivers it to the right ventricle. It is then pumped to the lungs where it is oxygenated. The left atrium collects the oxygen enriched blood from the lungs and delivers it to the left ventricle, where it is pumped throughout the body, and the ventricle contractions create blood pressure. Heart Rate During Exercise Your maximum heart rate is the highest heart rate that is achieved during strenuous exercise. One method to calculate your approximate maximum heart rate is the formula: 220 (your age) = approximate maximum heart rate. For example, a 30 year old s approximate maximum heart rate is 220 30 = 190 beats/min. You can maximize the benefits and reduce the risks when you are exercising within your target heart rate zone. Your target heart rate when exercising is normally 60 to 80 percent of your maximum heart rate. This may be increased or decreased depending on your health factors, and your health care provider may want you to limit the target heart rate zone to 50 percent. However, it is not recommended to exceed 85 percent of your maximum heart rate. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were two classes of cancer susceptibility variants identified. First one was the rare moderate penetrance variants that were known through the candidate genes, which had a risk allele frequency of less than 2%. An example of this would be when other genes encoded proteins in the DNA damage, which is associated with breast cancer risk. The second one would be the common low penetrance alleles, which had risk allele frequency less than 5%. This reflected upon the various subgroups of risk alleles that were detected. GWAS compared the frequency of common DNA variations with healthy individuals. Figure 2 showed the performance of DNA samples that were taken. The controls and patients DNA samples were genotyped using genome platforms that analyzed genetic variations in single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). There should be a match between the patients and controls to attenuate the false positive associations. To minimize them, statistical thresholds like Bonferroni correction is used. They believed very confidently that they could successfully restructure these nations, acquired from the Treaty of Paris, to construct municipal governments that would reflect the American styled democratic system. Americans set forth various Colonial projects that would provide these small nations with proper political education with the expectation that they would be able self govern accordingly. They wanted to instill ideologies of free trade, democracy, and maybe even the sense of justice and liberty that Americans felt was God s truth. In this argument, I believe the failures of the initial Philippine colonial project not only retrogressed the islanders back into their primitive informal aristocracy but actually help unify and modernize a regime that was the complete reversal of American intentions. The result of the type of Filipino government after reconstruction were significantly constrained by Anti Imperialists tensions from the metropole and continued to reshape itself by many additional constraints from the Filipino legislation.
