My Year At The Winner City Pool
In my eighteen years of my life, this summer has by far been the most memorable. It
was filled with many great memories during these past three months. This summer
was filled with a lot of fun, excitement, nerves, and sadness. Summer started one
week early, but other than that it was pretty much the same as every other summer. I
spent a lot of my time working, with my friends and family, and in the gym.
This year was my fourth year working as a lifeguard at the Winner city pool. Every
year I have worked, we only had to jump in for kids around three times the whole
summer, and this year we jumped in over ten times. I had to jump into the deepest
part of the pool, which is twelve feet deep and grab a little boy who started sinking
after he jumped off the diving board. It was not hard because he was light and I
could just grab his arm and pull him to the ladder but it was very scary, and I was a
little shaken up afterwards. Also this year I did my third year of private swimming
lessons. Usually I give around ten to twelve lessons a summer and this year I
doubled that and had twenty seven kids for lessons. Lessons were very hard to
schedule this year since I was so busy so working at the pool and teaching kids

From the beginning of civilization, humans have categorized themselves within
different societal hierarchies. In modern day society, people often struggle to
demolish these standards and stereotypes, however, in some cases, people have
come to accept their social standings. Literary pieces like The Necklace, by Guy de
Maupassant and famous characters like Cinderella express the self conflict and
human awareness towards societies social standings. While Mathilde from The
Necklace and Cinderella deal with social hierarchies throughout their stories, they
both face different aspects of the class system. Mathilde and Cinderella both undergo
socially transforming experiences that, while different also share a variety of
similarities. Both Mathilde and Cinderella s stories start with them being unhappy
with their current social status. The two women are not considered high class
women, which leads them to their unhappiness. For Mathilde, she finds herself
unsatisfied with her middle classstatus because of her beauty and greed as shown by
the line She suffered ceaselessly, feeling herself born for all the delicacies and all
the luxuries, (1, Maupassant). Mathilde desires the delicacies and luxuries of the
higher class as stated in the quote. She also feels as if her beauty and charm
belongs to the higher class, as she feels she was born for the riches. Living a life in
anything but riches makes Mathilde feel as if she has suffered ceaselessly because
she deserves better. Despite her feelings, Mathilde lives in middle class standard
and does possess more riches than some others. She is told to have a maid, which
is something affordable for her middle class status. Cinderella, while also
beautiful, is not necessarily unsatisfied with her social standing. Her beauty does
exceed her maid status, however, Cinderella seems to desire the kindness and
stability of the higher class, as opposed to the physical and emotional abuse she
faces as a maid. She does possess the greed for the riches she does not have.
Mathilde and Cinderella are beautiful women, who seemingly deserve and desire a
greater standing in society for different reasons. Additionally, Mathilde and Cinderella

1.2The main law I was concerned with while creating the site was the copyright,
Designs and Patents Act. To ensure the site was in line with this act with regards to
images I created the Background of the logo myself using GIMP2 I then converted
the background of a Lion rampant to Alpha so I could place this image on top of
the background image. I am also covered by the creative commons to take and
change an image found on the web. Since there was work completed on the image
the final logo can be claimed as my own intellectual property.

1.1Planning involved consideration of navigation method, colour scheme, logo
design, favicon design, font choice and site name. Once these had been decided
upon I started to gather resources for the project. The first thing that was obtained
was the site font, this was found by going to google fonts and searching for stencil.
A stencil font was chosen as the website is for booking and finding out about
airsoft (a sport like paintball but using plastic pellets instead of paintballs) and
therefore this font gave the site a military esque feel relating back to the military
theme. The next consideration to deal with was colour scheme originally a black
and brick red colour scheme was chosen but later seeing the site using this scheme it
was deemed too dark, I, therefore, opted for an off white and red colour scheme as
this lifted the page

Throughout this movie, Quasimodo, a crooked bell ringer of the Notre Dame
cathedral is looked over by Frollo, the evil minister of justice for all of Paris.
Quasimodo is constantly belittled by Frollo which is emphasised during the
several meals they share together. During the film, Frollo expects Quasimodo to
set up and serve the meal in a servant manner. Frollo dines with clean metallic
plates, glasses and a napkin while Quasimodo is forced to feed off a wooden scrap
for a plate. In one instance Frollo drops food onto the ground on purpose and expects
Quasimodo to clean up after him. During these gatherings Frollo s flauntful behaviors
highlight the differences between the two characters. These scenes also stress how
Frollo abuses and discredits Quasimodo. Because of this chapter I came to the
realization that the small dining scenes assorted throughout The Hunchback of Notre
Dame withhold much more information than I initially thought. Instead of two
characters simply eating together for the necessity of food, this chapter in Thomas
C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor illustrated the relevance a sole
meal can exhibit between two or more
