1. What Descriptive Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "What is a Descriptive Essay" may seem deceptively simple at first
glance, as one might assume that describing something is a straightforward task. However, the
difficulty lies in the precision and artistry required to convey a vivid and engaging picture with
words. Descriptive essays demand a keen observational skill and the ability to transform ordinary
details into extraordinary imagery.
The challenge arises in striking the right balance between providing enough detail to paint a clear
mental image for the reader and avoiding overwhelming them with an excess of information.
Crafting descriptive language that appeals to the senses, evokes emotions, and creates a lasting
impression is no small feat. Writers must navigate the delicate line between being too vague and
overly specific, ensuring that readers can immerse themselves in the experience without feeling
lost or burdened.
Furthermore, choosing the right subject for the descriptive essay adds another layer of
complexity. Whether describing a person, place, object, or event, writers must select a topic that
not only lends itself to vivid description but also holds personal significance or universal interest.
Structuring the essay poses its own set of challenges. Crafting a compelling introduction that
captivates the reader, organizing the body in a coherent and logical manner, and concluding with
a strong, resonant finish—all while maintaining the descriptive focus—require careful
planning and execution.
In essence, writing a descriptive essay about the concept of a descriptive essay involves a
nuanced interplay of language, creativity, and structural finesse. It demands a writer's ability to
transform ordinary details into a captivating narrative that transcends the ordinary.

History
America s blindness to the past and the whitewashing of history, sanctions for many
tales of exploitation and cruelty to go unnoticed. We hear about slavery and of the
displacement of the original inhabitants of America, Native Americans, but the extent
to which we hear about their plight only goes so far. Those elements of different
cultures which are not useful to the story of success and triumph for the colonizers is
ignored, minimized, transformed or just destroyed. (Arnold, 1999: 1) This cherry
picking of history is what allows for the exploitation of the marginalized people to
continue on today. If America was to trace the brutal and racist timeline of American
history and genuinely examine it, then they would have to face the colossal... Show

From a linguistic standpoint, the colonization of America during the 1500s and
1600s was brought about through the use of language. In order to draw investors
and colonizers from the Old World into the New World, they had to portray
something that was worth spending time on. Instead of describing the New World
as a land of possibilities, it was described as a heap of garbage. A place where the
human waste of England could be dropped and forced to carve out the productive
terrain. (Isenberg 2016: 2) Before it became the land of possibilities, America was
envisioned to be a land to house the undesirables of England that would be
exploited to benefit England and then perish in the process. (Isenberg 2016: 10)
This idea of using those deemed less beneficial to society as being the ones to do
the dirty work also manifested in the slavery of African Americans. (African Burial
Ground, 1994) The record of early America has often caused in today s worlds
misunderstandings of how certain events transpired. For example, it is a common
misconception that the North was the good guys in the war on slavery. That it was
the North vs. the South when in reality, the North treated their

In this textbook, materials management includes all activities in the flow of materials
from the supplier to the consumer. Such activities include physical supply, operations
planning and control, and physical distribution. Other terms sometimes used in this
area are business logistics and supply chain management. Often, the emphasis in
business logistics is on transportation and distribution systems with little concern for
what occurs in the factory. Whereas some chapters in this text are devoted to
transportation and distribution, emphasis is placed on operations planning and
control. Distribution and operations are managed by planning and controlling the
flow of materials through them and by using the system s resources to achieve a
desired customer service level. These activities are the responsibility of materials
management and affect every department in a manufacturing business. If the
materials management system is not well designed and managed, the distribution and
manufacturing system will be less effective and more costly. Anyone working in
manufacturing or distribution should have a good basic understanding of the factors
influencing materials flow. This text aims to provide that understanding. APICS

Abstract
This study compared stance marker (affect and quantifiers) frequencies and their
part of speech frequencies in males and females political jokes. 40 political jokes
were selected via social networks instant messages from native English speakers.
20 jokes were presented by females and 20 by males. The jokes comprised of 1000
words. Stance marker frequencies were assessed manually. Two categories of stance
markers were examined: affect and quantifiers. Results of the study show that
frequencies of quantifiers and affect were higher in the political jokes presented by
females than males. The data showed that most commonly, affect was expressed in
adjectives and verbs but quantifiers were adjectival and adverbial.

8. The Value of a Jury System
The Value of a Jury System
The Founders of our nation understood that no idea was more central to our Bill of
Rights indeed, to government of the people, by the people, and for the people than
the citizen jury. It was cherished not only as a bulwark against tyranny but also as an
essential means of educating Americans in the habits and duties of citizenship. By
enacting the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Amendments to the Constitution, the Framers
sought to install the right to trial by jury as a cornerstone of a free society.
The Framers of the Constitution felt that juries because they were composed of
ordinary citizens and because they owed no financial allegiance to the government
were indispensable to thwarting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tocqueville keenly understood these linkages: The jury system as understood in
America seems to me to be as direct and extreme a consequence of the . . .
sovereignty of the people as universal suffrage. They are both equally powerful
means of making the majority prevail. The jury is above all a political institution
[and] should be made to harmonize with the other laws establishing the sovereignty .
For society to be governed in a settled and uniform manner, it is essential that the jury
lists should expand or shrink with the lists of voters .
[In general] in America all citizens who are electors have the right to be jurors.
We have come to think of voting as the quintessential act of democratic
participation. Historically, the role of the people in serving on juries was often
likened to the role of voters selecting legislative bodies, and even to the role of
legislators themselves. Indeed, the jury s place in the judicial framework was
closely related to the idea of bicameralism: Just as the legislature comprised two
equal branches, an upper and a lower, juries and judges constituted the lower and
upper branches, respectively, of the judicial department.
The Supreme Court has reinforced the linkage of jury service and voting as part of a
package of political rights. For example, in a 1991 case challenging race based
exclusions in jury selection, Justice Anthony Kennedy observed in his majority
opinion that with the

10. Organizational Culture And Its Cultural Culture
To greet each other in Tibet, you stick out your tongue and put your hands together in
front of your chest. In Japan, it is only polite if you bow to each other when greeting.
There are hundreds of different ethnic groups in the world and they all have their own
customs and traditions that stemmed out from their underlying culture. Similar to
these ethnic groups, each organization also have their own unique culture that guides
how people behave and what people believe in within the organization.
In formal terms, organizational culture is the set of values, norms, guiding beliefs,
and understandings that is shared by members of an organization and is taught to
new members. [p.332; Organization theory Design; Daft, Armstrong] Put it in
simple terms, it is basically how the employees in a company are expected to
behave and go about their daily business. Organizational culture can be observed in
visible artifacts and employee behaviors such as symbols, slogan, the way people
talk, the way people dress, and even the atmosphere at the workplace. These visible
artifacts and observable behaviors reflects the deeper values and beliefs of each
member of the organization which in turn represents the true culture. I have the
privilege to be working for TD Canada Trust for the past two years and this is an

2. Mechanical and electronic access control
Electronic access control
The next layer is mechanical includes gates, doors, and locks. Control of the locks
becomes a problem with large user populations and large user turnover. The use of
keys can quickly become unmanageable, thus forcing the adoption of electronic
access control. The most desirable is Electronic access control which easily manages
large user populations, controlling the user lifecycles times, dates, and individual
access points.
Also, by using an additional sub layer of mechanical/electronic access control
protection one can reach a higher level of security, by integrating a key management
system to manage the possession and usage of mechanical keys to locks or property
within a building or campus.
3. Intrusion detection
The third layer is intrusion detection systems or alarms. Intrusion detection monitors
for attacks; it is less of a preventative measure and more of a response measure,
despite the fact that some would argue it is a deterrent. Intrusion detection has a high
incidence of false alarms and in many jurisdictions, law enforcement will not respond
to alarms from intrusion detection systems.

David Beckham is seen signing books, playing football, and relaxing with posh,

very personal David missing Posh, David dressing and having his head shaved.
At certain stages there are commercial breaks. I think this is because different parts
of David s life are shown at different stages so when we see another part of David s
life we are intervened by a break. The makers of this documentary chose television
as their medium because television is accessible to millions of people. A great
percentage of people living in the U.K have a T.V therefore the makers of the
David Beckham story knew it would be watched by many people and fans that
support David Beckham. I think this documentary had a great deal of impact on

16. Ludwig Van Beethoven Essay
The composer of some of the most influential pieces of music ever
written, Ludwig van Beethoven created a bridge between the 18th century
classical period and the new beginnings of Romanticism. His greatest
breakthroughs in composition came in his instrumental work, including
his symphonies. Unlike his predecessor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, for whom
writing music seemed to come easily, Beethoven always struggled to
perfect his work.
Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany, and was baptized on
Dec. 17, 1770. (There is no record of his birth date.) His father and
grandfather worked as court musicians in Bonn. Ludwig s father, a
singer, gave him his early musical training. Although he had only meager ... Show

Beethoven was convinced that the condition not only was permanent, but
was getting progressively worse. He spent that summer in the country and
wrote what has become known as the quot;Heiligenstadt Testament. quot; In the
document, apparently intended for his two brothers, Beethoven expressed
his humiliation and despair. For the rest of his life he searched for a
cure, but by 1819 his deafness had become total. Afterward, in order to
have conversations with his friends, Beethoven had them write down their
questions and replied orally.
Beethoven never married. Though he had many friends, he seemed to be
a lonely man. He continued to appear in public but spent more and more
17. of his time working on his compositions. He lived in various villages
near Vienna and took long walks carrying sketchbooks in which he would
write down his musical ideas. Scholars who have studied these
sketchbooks have discovered the agonizingly long process that the
composer went through in order to perfect his melodies, harmonies, and
instrumentations.
Three Periods of Work
Most critics divide Beethoven s work into three general periods,
omitting the earliest years of his apprenticeship in Bonn. Although some
pieces do not fit exactly into the scheme, these divisions can be used
to categorize the composer s work.
The first period, from 1794 to about 1800, consists of music whose

When analyzing data, such as the marks achieved by 100 students for a piece of
coursework, it is possible to use both descriptive and inferential statistics in your
analysis of their marks. Typically, in most research conducted on groups of people,
you will use both descriptive and inferential statistics to analyses your results and
draw conclusions. So what are descriptive and inferential statistics? And what are
their differences? Descriptive statistics is the term given to the analysis of data that
helps describe, show or summarize data in a meaningful way such that, for example,
patterns might emerge from the data. Descriptive statistics do not, however, allow
us to make conclusions beyond the data we have analyzed or reach conclusions
regarding any hypotheses we might have made. They are simply a way to describe
our data.
Descriptive statistics are very important because if we simply presented our raw
data it would be hard to visualize what the data was showing, especially if there
was a lot of it. Descriptive statistics therefore enables us to present the data in a
more meaningful way, which allows simpler interpretation of the data. For example,
if we had the results of 100 pieces of students coursework, we may be interested in
the overall performance of those students. We would also be interested in the
distribution or spread of the marks. Descriptive statistics allow us to do this. How to
properly describe data through statistics

20. Malcom X And The Civil Rights Of Malcolm X
By definition, civil rights are the rights of citizens to political and social equality.
To simplify that, civil rights are rights that every person should have, no matter
what race, color, ethnicity, etc. Some people believed so strongly that everyone
should have civil rights, they were willing to risk their own lives for it. People such
as Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest
Green, Hazel Massery, and many others. One of the many civil rights activists was
Malcolm Little, who later changed his name to Malcolm X. Malcolm X was one of
the activists who fought back violently. All of these civil rights activists wanted
generally the same thing. Dr. King wants the same thing I want. Freedom Malcolm

21. Hamlet s Treatment Towards Gertrude
Hamlet s treatment towards Gertrude (mother) is not unreasonable but the way
Hamlet treats Ophelia is a little harsh in the beginning when she is completely
innocent. Further along through the play Hamlet s treatment towards Ophelia can be
considered reasonable since she basically decided to side with Claudius and Polonius.
The way in which Hamlettreats Gertrudeand Ophelia doesn t seem to be a part of
the misogyny in the culture. Hamlet does seem to possess a great hatred for
women, especially the women in his close circle of peers. The hatred he has for
women is strong and visible to readers. The way Hamlet treats Gertrude is
completely just. Hamlet feels his mother has betrayed him because she married his
father s murderer shortly after his father was killed. Hamlet expected his mother,
the loving wife of his deceased father, to grieve and never marry again or at least
not after two months but Gertrude did. Also, by Gertrude marrying a bad man
such as Claudius has caused Hamlet to believe that Gertrude is a bad person and
she is not to be trusted. Hamlet thinks that his mother may have been a part of his
father s murder. Hamlet treats her just as he treats Claudius because Hamlet feels
Gertrude is no better. Hamlet has the right to be angry and expresses it the way he
seems fit and his mother deserves such treatment. Gertrude did move rather quickly
after Hamlet s father passed and she didn t seem to be fazed by his father s death

As Richard Bernstein said movie makers and television producers have become our
most powerful, though perhaps not our most careful, historians. He stated that it was
fair to say that society used to think that they are getting history, or what they think is
history, from the movies than from the standard history books. However, he also
confirmed that the actors have a great influence on the production of the movie as
well many of the latest history movies deal not with distant events but with the
central episodes and actors of our era. In addition, Bernstein contributed to his
argument that the artists could distort the facts of the history by pointing that the
society grants the artists the power to comment on both our past and our present.
Thus, intentionally or not, the artists could betray the history presented to the public
by commenting their personal s opinions.
However, in my opinion, the movies The

29. Media Portrayal Of The Working-Class In The Dispossessed
The media misrepresents the class in America in many ways. Although there are
several, I will be focusing on three ways. First, the media depicts wrongly of
middle class blacks. Secondly, it presents television shows that doesn t illustrate
how the working class are living. Lastly, it shows whites as the wealthy ones in the
class. The class is portrayed as one but it is actually imbalances of two different kinds
of class. One is the middle class and the other is the working class. In The
Dispossessed, it states only images we have of the working class are images of black
people, understood as black people. In fact, many of things we think of as
characteristically black are really true of the working class as whole but aren t true of
middle class... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They get presented as champions of the working class while ostensibly denying its
existence (Deresiewicz). This shows that the existent atmosphere of the working
class is still disguised. The true colors of the working class is nonexistent because
its illusion has overpowered the real truth leaving people to believe the false
circumstances of the white working class. With TV shows portraying the working
class as something else and whites being presented as if they are not part of the
working class, it leads Deresiewicz to ask What is the working class? A member of
the working class is someone who receives an hourly wage this definition not only
excludes the true middle class professionals, managers, and small business owners
even if one claims that a cop or a fireman might live in the suburbs and drive a big
car, it actually belongs to the middle class (Deresiewicz). Those middle class
workers would find themselves squarely back in the working class

Bommarito Throughout history, women were not seen as equal to men. Even in
2017, marginalization and oppression still persists in many regions and states.
Because of a long history of sexism and institutionalized that dates back to the first
functional societies, women are discouraged from participating in society
politically. Oftentimes the political participation of a group can be measured by
active voting, as well as how many parliament seats are held by women in each
country; as of June 2016, only 22.8 percent of parlimentarians were women, a slow
increase from the measured 11.3 percent in 1995, and... Show more content on

As for parliament participation, Germany is higher than the world average with a
39.1 percent participation; but still only ranks number 22 in the world for female
parliament percentages. Despite Merkel s leadership, German sexism in politics still
exists; despite the Chancellor being a woman, not many lower or mid level
governmental positions are held by women. Alice Schwarzer, the country s best
known feminist, lends her quote to this issue: Since 2005, little girls can decide: Do I
become a hairdresser or chancellor? While the state of gendered politics and
participation may outwardly seem fantastic, Germany still struggles with uplifting
women; the climate for German women in politics is icy, but warmer than most
nations. Germany does not have to deal with fundamental problems, such as
removing all de facto restrictions on women s suffrage, or dealing with assault on
women for seeking education or leadership politically. However, Germany attempts to
manage the onslaught of hidden problems such as a wage gap higher than the
European average, lack of political representation in parliament, and feminist being
percieved with a negative connotation. Whether or not Germany must handle
fundamental issues, the international community has many nations still living in the
midst of misogyny. There is no nation that still does not allow women to vote;
however,
31. Adam And Nimrod Are Not Just Characters From Dante s
Work
Adam and Nimrod are not just characters from Dante s work. They both have
origins in Christianity. Genesis 3 is about Adam s sin, the first sin; disobeying the
Lord caused the fall of man. Genesis 11 is about Nimrod s sin. Nimrod was the first
ruler in the land of Shinar (Gen 10.10). Men, migrating east, settled in Shinar and
planned to construct a tower so tall, that it would reach the sky because this would
make a name for [themselves] (Gen. 11.4). When the Lord noticed this tower, he
scattered them . . . all over the earth, as well as [confusing] the speech of all the
world (Gen. 11.8 9). I agree with V. Stanley Benfell; Nimrod s sin, resulting in the fall
of the language, is similar to the first sin that caused the fall of man.
Sins in the Hebrew Bible
To start with, the first man, Adam, is responsible for the original sin. Genesis 3
introduces the last creature the Lord made, the serpent (Everts 253). Though not
clarified in Genesis 3, Revelations 12:9 considers the serpent to be the devil. The
serpent tempts the first woman, Eve, to disobey the Lord. The serpent chooses Eve
instead of Adam, because she is easier to manipulate (Everts 254). The Lord had
allowed Adam and Eve to eat from any tree, except from the Tree of Knowledge of
Good and Evil (Genesis 2.16 17). Eve gave the fruit from the forbidden tree to Adam
(Genesis 3.6). When the Lord discovered that the two humans had eaten the fruit he
forbade them from eating, he made the serpent eat only dust, made
32. Race And Race In Heart Of Darkness
Heart of Darkness is a text which was written during the apartheid era when white
supremacy used to colonise people of colour. It centres mostly around the
protagonist Marlow who is on his journey to Congo. Race is explained by
(colin,2013), as a group of people who share similar physical characteristics such
as colour of skin and hair texture , who are considered as fitting in the same sort, or
the fact of belonging to such a group. Power can be explained as the ability to
control other people. In this essay I am going to discuss the relationship between race
and power in Heart of Darkness.
Each individual has his/her own race. For example, in heart of darkness, there are
Russians, Black Africans and whites. Many people who fear the topic of race
normally ignore the fact that there are different races in life, instead they say there
is only one race which is human race. Such topic are mostly ignored yet they still
have an impact in our daily life. Well, not every white supremacy used to ignore
the case of race even in the past. In (condrad 1902,3) white men see themselves as
more sophisticated and that they have urbanised minds and are educated. Whenever
the race topic arises, people of colour recall how bad they were treated because of
their race. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

36. `` Beautiful Monsters `` By Eric Puchner
Will a perfect world ever exist? The ideology behind the creation of a utopia is so
that its inhabitants will be content, and have an equal understanding of one another.
However, in the attempt to create this dreamlike utopia, it becomes susceptible to
becoming a dystopia because individuality is destroyed in the hopes of creating
unity. This futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive societies are controlled
and make it seem like a perfect world, but what do these dystopian worlds show us?
In his text Beautiful Monsters, Eric Puchner depicts a world where adults are cast
out of society. A world where children live forever and controlsociety. It s the conflict
of the Perennials and the Senescent that shows Puncher s political argument. Puchner
s argument is people often classify people and reject them from society through the
false values that have been implemented in their society. While in Neil Gaiman s and
Bryan Talbot s comic strip, From Homogenous to Honey, they depict the world
where a masked assailant completely erases the homosexual narrative of history. By
destroying these narratives, he is carrying out his agenda, and creating a dystopian
society where everyone s narrative is the same. Gaiman and Talbot s argument speaks
on if society were to strip away all homosexual cultural influences. They bring the
conclusion of individuality being attacked leading to a lack of independent thinking,
this, in turn, causes individuals to lose themselves. This

AVN 1106 Major Assignment

Date of Submission 16/09/2016
Abstract:
With the expectation from CASA for newly established flight operations to design
and implement a Safety Management System (SMS) the task has been set to do so
for an airline with 12 regional aircraft and 200 employees. The aim of an SMS is to
monitor and manage the overall safety operations that occur within an airline. The
use of an SMS has proven extremely successful as it solidifies the communication
between operators and management. An SMS consists of four (4) main components:
Safety assurance; Safety risk management; safety promotion; and safety policy. Each
of these components plays a major role in ensuring the safe operation of an airline.
Introduction:
With the aviation industry exponentially expanding it is essential to ensure that
those safety standards which are in place are working effectively. It is primarily the
responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to ensure that his or her airline
is not only profitable but is also safe. The balance between production and protection
is a fine line and as such there need to be systems in place to ensure production is not
outweighing protection.
Airlines in the developed world endeavour to not only meet, but to exceed the
expectations of the standards set by regulatory bodies within the aviation industry.
This can be done through the implementation of an SMS as well as by revising and
enhancing

Introduction In this paper, I outline Noel and Judis and display how they are in
disagreement as to the ideologically coherent nature of Trump s supporters and his
campaign. The ideology of the candidate, their campaign, and the ideology of their
supporters are not mutually exclusive. Donald Trump could be ideologically
incoherent as a person, which I am not arguing, but his campaign and supporters that
drove him to get elected were ideologically coherent. In this paper, I argue that
Donald Trump s campaign and his [Middle American Radical] supporters are
ideologically coherent under the mantra of an anti establishment ideology.

Noel states that many [Trump supporters] may self identify as conservative, but
they are not particularly ideological. This is why Trump s ideological apostasies do
not bother them. Noel s evaluation of ideology is limited through using a liberal to
conservative dichotomy. Moreover, his use of compromise as an independent
variable does not explain Trump as his support among activists comes from those
who would compromise and those who would stick to their principles. Within this
framework, it makes sense when he poses that Trump s supporters are not
ideologically coherent and Trump s ideological incoherencies do not affect them.
Judis offers an alternative MARs do not appear to be ideologically consistent
because MARs are outside of the left right sliding scale, or liberal conservative
dichotomy. Judis says that political scientists have ignored the role of this distinct
[anti establishment] ideology behind the Middle American radicals, who are the
group most distrustful of the national government. Noel s framework does not
account for an anti establishment ideology that would explain why MARs are not
bothered by Trump s left or right incoherencies as they represent a uniting anti
establishment message. Noel posits that Trump appeals to a group of largely
alienated white voters , but fails to address why they feel alienated and the ideology
that directs their support to Trump s campaign. Middle American Radicals are
distrustful of the establishments of both major parties and Washington as a whole,
but they are also the group that is most likely to advocate for a situation when one

A review on cloud elasticity for system performance improvement and cost

Patil School of Engineering Technology Charoli, Pune India Abstract: Cloud
Computing as a new enterprise model has become popular to provide on demand
services to user as needed. Cloud Computing is essentially powerful computing
paradigm to deliver services over the network. Computing at the scale of the Cloud
system allows users to access the enormous resources on demand. However, a user
demand on resources can be various in different time and maintaining sufficient
resources to meet peak resource requirements all the time can be costly. Therefore,
dynamic scalability which can also be called as elasticity is a critical key point to
the success of Cloud Computing environment. Dynamic resizing is a feature which
allows server to resize the virtual machine to fill the new requirement of resources in
a cloud environment. Though there are enormous applications hosted on cloud now
a days, but the next big thing which will be focused on will be the elasticity. In this
paper, an effort has been put to explain the cloud elasticity concept and how it will
benefit the Cloud implementers in reducing operation cost and also to improve the
system s performance as a whole. Keywords: Elasticity, Scalability, Performance,

42. Dualism In Korea
The poverty rate amongst the elders in Korea s especially aging population is very
high, it has been a very high contributor to income inequality over the past few
decades . As of OECD reports in 2011 have indicated 49 percent of the population
above the age of 65 lived in relative poverty. The figure in Korea is extremely high
compared to the OECD average which is 13 percent. The BOAP was introduced
relatively late in 2008 which covers roughly about 70 percent of the population with
the benefit of 97 thousand KRW which is 16 percent of the minimum cost of living
in 2014. Although there is a relative generosity in covering a large number of
population for the welfareprogram, the BOAP has not been able to prevent a
significant rise of elderly poverty rate and the GINI coefficient since 2007 .
In addition to the introduction of BOAP, there was an introduction to the National
Pension System (NPS). In 2013, only 29% of the age group 65 and above have
benefited from the pension system. The pension coverage was also very small with
only 310 thousand KRW which is about $298 per month. Moreover, there is a wide
gender gap in its recipients, with 40 percent of men receiving it compared to only 15
percent of women. The relatively low participants of the NPS scheme reflects its
recent introduction in 1989 .

(2015) and was intertwined with many of the issues and concepts discussed here.
Odessa held onto its racial ideologies for much longer than it should have, even
with Federal lawsuits against them (Bissinger, 2015; pg. 107 Coakley, 2015; pg.
227). These beliefs were deeply held and acted upon that they still were intact even
after the desegregation of the schools. The Southside of Odessa had been and
continued to be classified as the low income and minority side of town where the
blacks and Hispanics lived, while the East side was for the wealthy and white
citizens. The railroad tracks that ran through the heart of town served as the
divider for this segregation, or as Lanita Akins called it: The American version of
the Berlin Wall (Bissinger, 2015; pg. 99). The physical separation wasn t the only
racial issue that Odessa had. Blacks and Hispanics were both quite underrepresented
in Permian High, only making up about 31% of the student body (Bissinger, 2015;
pg. 175). The black population of Odessa seemed to get the blunt end of the racial
stigma though, which is especially seen at the beginning of chapter 5 with the use
and explanation of why some Odessans used the word... Show more content on

It was also common for Texas high school football as a whole. These behaviors were
seen both off and on the field and included extreme play against the opposing team,
drinking, drug use, fighting, hubris, and institutional corruption (Bissinger, 2015
Coakley, 2015). Off field behavior included mainly drinking and getting into fights,
though the citizens of Odessa even went as far as shooting a gun inside a bar at one
point. The player s drinking had become bad enough that an anonymous letter
frowning upon that behavior found its way into their lockers while they were in the
playoffs (Bissinger, 2015; pgs.

development are gross fine motor skills. Gross motor skills use the larger muscles
in the body like arms legs. Rolling over, crawling, walking, running and jumping are
all gross motor skills. Fine motor skills use the smaller muscles in the body, like

Activities to promote Emotional Development * Imaginative Play. By dressing up
and acting out real life experiences children can begin to understand someone else s
perspective. Giving the children an opportunity to be someone else and anything
they want is emotionally satisfying and helps to build their confidence and self
esteem. * Identifying emotions Take pictures of people who look happy, sad, angry
and scared. Show the children these pictures and ask them which person in which
picture is feeling what. This will give the children chance to voice their opinion and
also recognise facial expressions. Social Development Social development is the
way a child interacts with others, builds and maintains relationships. This is the
stage of development where children become aware of working as a team and
understand the concept of sharing. Activities to promote Social Development *

child must hold the hand of the people on their left and right hand side. The children
must then work together in order to untangle the circle without releasing each other s

45. The Argument Of Violent Video Games
Learning is a deep human need, like mating and eating, and like all such needs it is
meant to be deeply pleasurable to human beings. ― James Paul Gee, Why Video
Games Are Good for Your Soul: Pleasure and Learning. Some people have
controversial argument that violent video games should be banned, claiming
about the content of video games can change the behavior and attitudes of the
players. Since the early 2000s, advocates of video games have emphasized their
use as an expressive medium, arguing for their protection under the laws governing
freedom of speech and also as an educational tool. Violent video games allow
players to divert their aggression into the virtual world instead of the real one.
Video games have become not only a form of entertainment, but also another way
for people to escape reality and to enter their own virtual fantasy. James Gee explains
that, if you blame violent video games for horrific events that have occurred is much
like putting the blame on food for the cause of obesity. According to the
Entertainment Software Association (ESA), 58 percent of all Americans playvideo
games, and nearly half of Americans over 50 play. The organization also found that
45 percent of gamers are women and that the average gamer is 30 years old.
Gameplayis also on the rise one study shows that average daily video gameplay
among kids ages 8 to 18 rose from 26 minutes per day in 1999 to almost 110
minutes (nearly two hours) per day by 2009. The numbers are even higher for boys,
25 percent of whom play video games for four or more hours per day. Violent video
games should not be ban because violent video games can be good for developing
cognitive, physical, and many more hidden skills, help to understand and learn to
control emotions, and banning violent video games is against the fourteenth
amendment of the United States.
Violent video games strengthen and coordinate to visual skills. Researchers from
the University of Rochester found, people who frequently play video games have
better visual skills of their surroundings. Than people who do not or rarely play any
video game. This means people who play videogames, are better suit around his or
her surrounding and could help improve our society. Many

47. Walt Disneyland Research Paper
One day Walt Disney had a vision. It was a vision of a place where children and
parents could have fun together. The more Walt dreamed of a magical park, the
more imaginative and elaborate it became (justdisney.com). This vision that Walt
Disney had was the vision of one of the most well known places on earth,
Disneyland. Originally, he planned for the park to cover an area of 8 acres where
his employees and families could go to relax. However, World War II halted these
plans that he had, which ultimately gave him more time to come up with more
ideas for this vision, and he came to the quick realization that 8 acres was not
nearly enough. Finally in 1953, he had the Stanford Research Institute conduct a
survey for a 100 acre site, outside of Los Angeles. He needed space to build rivers,
waterfalls, and mountains; he would have flying elephants and giant teacups; a
fairy tale castle, moon rockets, and a scenic railway; all inside a magic kingdom
he called Disneyland (justdisney.com). To him, location was his top priority, and it
would have to be in the Los Angeles area, while also being accessible by freeway, as
well as affordable as he did not have much money at the time. The search for the best
spot finally ended in the rural Anaheim, Californiawith a purchase of a 160 acre
orange grove near the junction of the Santa Ana Freeway (I 5) and Harbor Boulevard
(justdisney.com). This would obviously be an expensive project so Walt had to turn
to television for his
48. The Importance Of Art
Art has many functions, it can illustrate real life events and people, it can be
created for aesthetic purposes, and it can be expressive. Artists have often broken
away from the traditional approach to art making, where they laboured over art
commissioned by the wealthy, and although artist still may work under
commission, they also create art for their own exploration with their own
intentions and purpose. According to Jacques RanciГЁre, artists play a larger role
in the community, or at least they ought to. He believes artists should use their
media as a platform to take charge. Jacques RanciГЁre argues that artistic practices
are ways of doing and making that intervene in the general distribution of these
ways of doing and making as well as in the relationships they maintain to models of
being and forms of visibility (p. 403). All art has the capability to be political, and
RanciГЁre argues artists ought to disrupt the distribution of the sensible, and they can
do so through visual activism. An example of an artist who engages in such practices
is Adrian Piper, with her recent artwork Imagine (Trayvon Martin) in 2013 (see fig.

49. Language And Poverty In The United States
Poverty
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in the United States in 2006, the poverty rate
for all individuals was 12.3%. For children under the age of 18, the incidence of
poverty was 17%, and for children under the age of 5, the rate as 20.4%. Poverty do
not discriminate, is continuous and it work in patterns. Poverty is the extension to
which an individual does without resources. These resources can consist of financial,
emotional, mental, spiritual, physical, support systems, relationships, and knowledge
of hidden rules .The lack of these resources affects the children development in the

The register of language helps children in their early years to develop the language
from a limited use of words, to a casual language (characterized by a 400 800 words
vocabulary), and finally to talk with a formal language (standard sentence syntax
and word choice of work and school). These aspects of language affect the students
that live in poverty because they do not have access to formal register at home. The
lack of formal register combined with a lack of vocabulary, the knowledge of
sentence structure or adequate syntax affects the student to develop a good score and

ABSTRACT
Diesel engine exhaust gas emissions and particulate matters have been a serious
environmental problem for a long time. Many research have been made in order to
reduce these emissions since the usage of diesel engines came into large. Major
emissions from the diesel exhaust are NOx, SOx, CO and Particulate Matters.
Amongst these SOx, CO and Particulate matters can be reduced by using after
treatment methods like Catalytic Reduction, etc. Unlike these NOx reduction is a
challenging issue. In this project various types of technologies which are used till

Usage of diesel engine in automobiles is increasing worldwide because of its high fuel
efficiency. As the usage increases, the emissions from the exhaust gases also
increases which affects the atmosphere, thereby causing environmental issues such as
global warming, smog and even acid rain. These emissions are mainly due to non
stoichiometric combustion, dissociation of Nitrogen and impurities in the fuel and air
mixture. Major emissions include Oxides of Nitrogen, Oxides of Sulphur, unburnt
Hydrocarbons, oxides of carbon and other carbon particles or soot. Significant
measures are taken by the automotive industries for several years to reduces the
intensity of these exhaust gases. There are two ways of reducing these exhaust gases

Loss of Innocence A child is known for having innocence, and bad experiences
strip kids of it. In Sarah s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay, experiences cause a loss of
innocence due to loss of freedom, loss of hope, and loss of family. Freedom is a
right that allows humans to live life to the fullest. In society when a child has no
basic rights of freedom, it causes them to grow up and lose their innocence. In
Sarah s Key, Sirka describes how she feels at the camp: The girl noticed a handful
of people watching them through the barbed wire.... The girl felt like she had
become someone else. Someone hard, and rude, and wild. Sometimes she fought
with the older children, the ones who tried to grab the old stale bread she had found....

52. Geographic Regions Of Peru
This country is divided into three principal geographic regions which are the Costa
(the coast , mountainous arid coastline), the Sierra ( mountain range , which are
cold and rugged Andean highlands), and the Selva ( jungle , which are rain forests).
The topography of this country as well as being prone to natural disasters such as
earthquakes, recurrent floods and droughts, do not allow Peru s agricultural sector to
grow, and only 7.4% of the gross domestic product (GDP) comes from agriculture.
In Peru, about 5.2 million people are in a state of high or very high vulnerability to
food insecurity , one of the major cause of malnutrition. This along with poverty,
international commodity market fluctuations, limited purchasing power and issues
53. Benefits Of Being Vegetarianism
Why should humans be vegetarian?
More and more, some good quality meat is becoming very expensive. Since a can
of chickpeas is less expensive and easier to cook, a lot of Quebec College students
decide to take the meat out of their diet. Everyone should do like those people and be
vegetarian for the benefits that it as for society and the environment. This diet is
good for the human health, it helps save the planet and it helps save the animals.
First, there are many health benefits that comes with being vegetarian. In the Harvard
Health Publishing, the searchers describe the way that vegetarianism can help your
body. Compared with meat eaters, vegetarians tend to consume less saturated fat
and cholesterol and more vitamins C and E, dietary fiber, folic acid, potassium,
magnesium, and phytochemicals (plant chemicals), such as carotenoids and
flavonoids. As a result, they re likely to have lower total and LDL (bad) cholesterol,
lower blood pressure, and lower body mass index (BMI), all of which are associated
with longevity and a reduced risk for many chronic diseases. The major diseases
that vegetarianism can prevent are heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes. In
fact, vegetarians are 25% less likely to die from a heart disease than meat eaters. This
means that a lot of people could be saved with this diet. Personally, if I could do
anything to live longer and healthier, I would do it. Nowadays, we eat a lot of junk
food, and more and more people are dying because

So do brutal recreations influence high schoolers, or are youngsters picking
diversions that speak to what they re feeling inside? Literature Review: Test research
has demonstrated that playing aggressive computer games causes higher bores of
truculent insight, truculent effect, physiological excitement, and truculent
deportment (in the short term) than non pugnacious computer games. Be that as it
may, there are two noteworthy circumscriptions with these examinations. To start
with, the dominant part of exploratory studies that have thought about the impacts of
combative versus non hostile computer games on animosity have neglected to
balance these recreations as far as aggressiveness, exhaustingness, and pace of
activity. In this manner, though the everyday finding is that antagonistic computer
games cause higher gauges of hostility than non truculent computer games, different
unbeatable components past the bona fide pugnacious substance might be in charge
of the lifted levels of animosity. Second, point of reference trial ponders have slanted
to use an evaluation of hostility that might withal quantify aggressiveness, prompting
inquiries regarding whether truculent computer games are related to animosity or
intensity(P. J C Adachi Willoughby, 2011). Research on introduction to TV and
motion picture savagery proposes that playing aggressive computer games will
increase truculent comportment. A Meta Analytic audit of the

On 12 October 2000, a 505 foot Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer named
the USS Cole, was attacked by two suicide bombers while anchored in the port of
Aden, Yemen for refueling. The U.S. Navy destroyer, manned by a crew of 293,
had been in transit from the Mediterranean Sea to the Arabian Gulf to support
United Nations Security Resolutions involving Iraq. The suicide bombers had
utilized a small motorboat laden with explosives to move in close to their intended
target. Within seconds, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated, ripping a

heroic actions of the crew saved the vessel, seventeen U.S. Navy sailors were killed

Further, CI investigations play a vital role in resolving acts that are considered to be a
threat to national security. Then Secretary of Defense William Cohen immediately
launched an investigation into the attack on the Cole. Within hours of the deadly
blast, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Central Intelligence
Agency (CIA), and a contingent of individuals from the Pentagon s Fleet Anti
Terrorist Support Team were dispatched to investigate the scene. In addition, U.S.
Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) sent a task force to conducted a
separate investigation into the bombing. While in Yemen, these agents developed a
close working relationship with the Yemeni government and in the process,
orchestrated one of the largest ever investigations regarding a crime that was
committed outside of the U.S. It was discovered through the course of these
investigations that the bombing was conducted by al Qa ida, which had considered
the Cole to be a symbol of American power and policy in the Middle East.
Investigations by the NCIS task force found solid evidence that linked the attack to
Osama bin Laden.
In addition, the Department of Defense (DoD) USS Cole Commission Report
discovered that the DoD had failed to allocate enough resources to all source
intelligence analysis and collections, functions which are deemed critical to
counterterrorism. It further stated in transit units need adequately manned CI

56. Wood Preservatives
Adding wood preservatives to wood can drastically change the effect of wood
decay on wood. Normally, when wood with no preservatives is submerged in
water, it only takes a couple of days for the wood to decay (exact amount can vary
depending on the original integrity of the wood). When preservatives are added, the
time period is increased but not prevented. It can take anywhere from a week to a
month or more depending on the type of woodpreservative (Hendricks, Hoffman,
Powell, 2011). When selecting the best wood preservatives to prevent wood decay,
it is crucial to know if it is interior or exterior, be able to compare and contrast the

It is important to know how up to date it is and what it was originally made for.
Shellac was used in India from 100 44 b.c. to protect the surfaces of homes and
temples. Paint (both interior and exterior) dates back as far as the cavemen. It was
used to decorate surfaces, protect walls from weather, and to improve lighting and
heating effects for better working conditions (Wood Preservatives, 2003).
Although lacquer is constantly changing today, we can trace its roots all the way
to the Japanese about 2,000 years ago. It was used to decorate wood for drawing
and carving in the wood (Wood Preservatives, 2003). Varnish roots can be traced all
the way back to ancient Egypt. It was used to decorate and preserve artifacts in the
Egyptian tombs (Wood Preservatives, 2003). Stain has no direct roots to where it
was first made. All we know today was that it was a more recent invention that has
many ingredients of other preservatives and its main use is to change the color of
the wood (Wood Preservatives, 2003). Enamel is another preservative that we do
not know the roots of for sure. All that we know is that enamel is extremely
durable and can be the main preservative that protects wood (Wood Preservatives,
2003). Linseed oil is made from flax seeds that can be found right here in America.
Linseed oil was actually made as a paint but later became known as a wood
preservative (Hendricks, Hoffman, and Powell, 2011). The final wood preservative
is polyurethane. Polyurethane has many different chemical recipes, each and every
one doing something different than the last. With that, it is impossible to trace each
and every recipe back to its roots. What we do know is that polyurethane is a very
hard clear coating that can cover wood and protect is from wood decay (Wood
Preservatives, 2003). To summarize, knowing the history of wood

59. Profit Maximization Model
SAMPLE ANSWER FOR QUESTION 5
Profit making is one of the most traditional, basic and major objectives of a firm.
Profit motive is the driving force behind all business activities of a company. It is
the primary measure of success or failure of a firm in the market. Profit earning
capacity indicates the position, performance and status of a firm in the market. In
spite of several changes and development of several alternative objectives, profit
maximization has remained as one of the single most important objectives of the firm
even today.
Both small and large firms consistently make an attempt to maximize their profit by
adopting novel techniques in business. Specific efforts have been made to maximize
output and minimize production and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are as follows
1. Profit maximization is the main goal of the firm.
2. Rational behavior on the part of the firm to achieve its goal of profit maximization.
3. The firm is managed by owner entrepreneur.
Determination of profit maximizing price and output
Profit maximization of a firm can be explained in two different ways.
В· Total Revenue and Total Cost approach.
В· Marginal Revenue and Marginal Cost approach.
Profits of a firm are estimated by making comparison between total revenue and
total costs. Profit is the difference between TR and TC. In other words, excess of
revenue over costs is the profits. Profit = TR TC. If TR is equal to TC in that case,
there will be break even point. If TR is less than TC, in that case, a firm will be
incurring losses. In this case, we take in to account of total cost and total revenue of
the firm while measuring profits.
It is clear from the following diagram how profit arises when TR is greater than that
of TC.
2. MR and MC approach
In this case, we take in to account of revenue earned from one unit and cost incurred
to produce only one unit of output. A firm will be maximizing its profits when
MR= MC and MC curve cuts MR curve from below. If MC curve cuts MR curve
from above either under perfect market or under imperfect market, no doubt MR
equals MC but total output will not be maximized and hence total profits also will
not be maximized. Hence, two conditions are
