QUESTION 4
How did you use media technologies
in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
Research and Planning
We used Blogger to store and record all our research which was beneficial when we had to
construct our final product. Blogger was also useful by allowing us to link our blogs in our group
so we could easily share ideas. We had downloaded the mobile app which permitted us to see our
storyboard without having to carry around physical copies.
Twitter was the social media platform we opted to use to construct a mini-questionnaire for our
genre and audience demographic. We used "Whatsapp" as a platform to communicate by creating
a group chat between our group to plan days to film and this resulted in distributing the workload
evenly and manage our time sensibly.
YouTube and Spotify was heavily used to research songs since on YouTube there were suggested
playlists for specific genres and both platforms provided us with lots of inspiration for our chosen
genre and outside genres. YouTube also allowed us to upload audience feedback and vlogs during
the construction of our media product which helped during the evaluation stages since we could
refer back to it.
We found Seafret – Oceans on YouTube and
were heavily inspired by their creative use of
camera angles and the narrative of using a
child with the theory of binary opposites
presented
Construction/Filming
Media technologies played a key role in the construction stage since we used a range of
hardware which enabled us to create quality products. We used a Nikon D300 to film our music video
which was simple to use and allowed us to play back what we had filmed in order to see if we had to re-
shoot or adjust anything, for example during our dog walking scenes our bags were visible in the shots
so we had to re-shoot. We also used a tripod when filming for stability and ensure our footage was of
quality. The DSLR camera allowed us to execute our narrative in a professional manner with a variety
of angles and we used an Apple Mac which helped us to efficiently upload and edit footage from the
camera which resulted in quicker editing.
Using our mobile phones was convenient as we were able to vlog at locations, blog from the blogger
app whilst checking the storyboards when away from school.

Software
We also used a range of software to construct our music video and ancillary tasks for
example we used iMovie to edit our video since we were familiar with it and had used it
during our foundation portfolio; therefore we used the skills we had already acquired
and developed them. Photoshop was another software during the creation of my
ancillary tasks, for example I used it for my digipak and magazine advert and used shots
and scenes from the music video in these to enhance the element of continuity.
Photoshop also allowed me to insert a barcode and fonts of my choice to my digipak
giving ir a realistic finish.
Evaluation
I decided to use Prezi and Microsoft PowerPoint for the evaluation stage since I am familiar with
PowerPoint and it was easy to use and access from my computer, with the help of SlideShare to upload
and embed it on to my blog. I used Prezi because it is different from PowerPoint with a range of
creative yet sophisticated styles to choose from. I also decided to include a voice over in my Prezi's to
further narrate my answers. Following this I was able to embed these onto my blog therefore allowing
it to be easily viewed.
Overall I used a number of media technologies during the various stages of my advanced portfolio
which have enabled me to produce quality products and develop my skills.
