Q4. How did you usemedia technologies in the construction, research, planning
and evaluation stages?
Research
We used YouTube to research music videos of our chosen genre and specifically
focus on the music videos of Ed Sheeran songs. By doing this, we would have
had an understanding of the type of production we were doing.
Wikipedia helped us when we were researching different genres and
conventions. It also allowed us to gather personal information on Ed Sheeran
such as his full name, albums and the record label he was with.
Weused SurveyMonkeyto createour questionnaireso wecould havebeen able
to understandourtarget audienceand the certain demographicgroups, genders
and ages we should be targeting.
We usedFacebook to gather information forour questionnaireas wesharesour
questionnaire that was linked to Survey Monkey onto Facebook. This allowed
people, especially our target audience as we knew they would use social media
regularly, access and take part in our questionnaire easily.
Planning
Word was our mostused softwarefor planning as wenoted down our plans and
schedules. During our research period, we would have used Word to create
everything from genre research to shot lists. We would have also used Word to
write our blog posts on before uploading them onto our blog so they would be
spellchecked and proof read. We also used this to keep track of what we had
completed, what was still a work in progress and what was outstanding.
The website I used for my blog was ‘Blogger’. By using an online blog, we were
able to keep a diary of what was going on and also post entries about genre
research and planning. Also, we were able to post revision notes on it and
therefore it also becomes a handy revision source.
As a group, we used Google Drive to share documents and keep in touch with
our teacher. This allowed us to share our work with each other and edit it
together. It also meant our teacher was capable of doing the same,
consequently ensuring that we were all on track and could see what we still
needed to complete.
Construction
Throughout the process of construction, we used Photoshop CS6 to edit our
production. Using Photoshop as opposed to MovieMaker or any other film
editing software, meant we were able to excel in our work as Photoshop is
regularly used by professionals and has advanced settings which helped us edit
the production as we were able to adapt the camera settings to convey the
desired atmosphere.
YouTube was used again during the construction, however in a different way as
we uploaded our productions onto the website. By doing this, we allowed other
students to view our productions and gain insight into the creativity we have
produced. It would have also made it easier for examiners and teacher to view
and mark as it is a well-known and free to use website.
The cameras we used to film our primary task and music video were the Sony
A56 and Canon 1200D. Using DLSRcameras as opposed to film cameras allowed
the quality of our production to be in high definition with no graininess – which
we would have had if we used regular film cameras. This would have given our
production a more professional look.
Evaluation
For our evaluation, we used Prezi to answer the first evaluation question to
describeall the ways our production uses, challenges and develops conventions
of media products. Throughout nine sides, we were able to depict how our
productions either challenges or conforms to generic media conventions.
We also used PowerPointand doing so, it allowed us to explore the efficiency of
the combination of our final piece and ancillary task in detail as wewere able to
describe about the aspects of combining the two, thoroughly, over the course
of fifteen slides.
Slide Sharewas another online softwareweused to writeup our evaluation and
by doing so,wewereable to upload a documentthat explored the differentway
we used technology throughout our whole production, from planning and
research to construction and evaluation.
A script was also used in our evaluation, which is a different way to reflect on
our production and as it is not electronical or online, we wereable to show how
we could use different forms of media in our production.
