The most important purpose of measurement and evaluation is for teachers and learners to know how successful teaching and learning have been. Measurement and evaluation functions include determining knowledge, values, skills, and difficulties acquired as well as serving as guides, incentives, and bases for diagnosing needs, effectiveness, and need for reteaching. Types of evaluation are diagnostic, formative, and summative. Tools used include observation, rating scales, checklists, written work, and tests.
