Students provided feedback on four different font styles for a magazine masthead. The first font, called "Magneto", was found to be too bold but stood out well and was easy to read. The second font received the most votes from students for being easily readable with joined letters that reflected the genre. Some felt it was too thin. The third font resembled a car maker's font and was identified as the Ferrari font, so it did not fit the genre. The last font was found by most students to not match or resemble the indie rock genre at all and had more of a pop-punk theme.

1. Masthead feedback
From the feedback I have received surrounding my 4 favourite masthead styles; there have been
mixed opinions about each font style and whether or not they are suitable for the overall genre of
the magazine, which was rock/indie/alternative.
The first font I chose to take further was a font called ‘Magneto’. Students who reviewed this font
found that this font was a bit too bold and swirly, which didn’t represent the genre very well.
However, some did feel that it stood out well and was easy to read, which is an important factor
regarding the presentation of the front cover.
From the comments received, students voted this particular font to be the best one. One student
said, “Easily readable, plus it has joined up letters which help reflect the interactivity between your
magazine’s genre as well as flowing from left to right, forcing expectation to read it”. Some found
that it was a bit too thin and so may not stand out amongst the background very well. But overall,
this particular font had the most votes.
Students found that this font baredclose resemblance to a car maker’s font, for a car magazine. I
found that this was actually the Ferrari font and so it may not fit the genre of the magazine. Also, as
the letters in the font are fairly stunted and small, they may not stand out amongst the busy content
on the FC.
Students found that this last font didn’t match or resemble the genre trying to be conveyed at all.
They felt that this font had a pop-punk theme to it, as oppose to an indie-rock theme. However, one
student found that the curves and flicks on the font gave it an indie feel to it, which could possibly
link with the genre slightly.
